Some GE may be good, however the machine I was given by AHS is the lowest on the market. Makes horrible noise, does not have a detergent or fabric softener dispenser, cannot wash large loads (even though it is a large capacity tub) due to balance issues, does not spin very dry and just overall a terrible machine.

I had a Maytag washing machine, that died after 18 years. I decided to get a GE washing machine because of the recommendation of friends. I've only had it a few weeks, but I'm very happy with it. The tub is much larger than my old machine, and it has a few additional features.

My washer (GE Hydro Wave) tangles clothes to no end, has ruined many things, shirts, tops etc. It never seems to have enough water in the drum and that's on super fill. Very unhappy with this washer, will buy a different brand next purchase.

I have the GE Model 680BSJ and it is fabulous. Has so many options for small loads, temperatures, deep water wash and rinses which is hard to find on most HE models. I use the short cycle a lot for small loads and you can choose your temperatures, the speed of the spin cycle and so many other choices. It also has Clean machine cycle which I use about once every month. Inside stays so clean and fresh smelling I have never had another brand or model that I have liked better than this one.

I would of rated the reliability a 4 but the machine broke down once already. I had to send it in for repair. Otherwise I love how it cleans and rinses my clothes. The tub holds plenty of water to wash a even extra big load. Overall all I'm satisfied about its performance just sometimes I'm concerned that if I don't close the door in time after the water stops it won't start to wash.

I purchased my machine a few months ago. I read all the reviews and settled for the one I got. I was praying that it would hold up and work like a washing machine should. I am very happy so far, and have had no issues. It cleans and rinses along with spins with no problems so far. my clothes come out very clean, and not wrinkled. I love all the extra features like extra fill and soil stages. I am happy that I haven't so far had any issues like the ones reported. Thank you GE for keeping us in clean clothes! I have a stackable unit, because it is too high it’s difficult to get laundry from the back of the dryer I feel like it should be a little lower and a bit wider. Also it’s difficult to keep the front glass of the washer clean.

When buying a new machine so many women said "DO NOT get a front load as the smell". I have had a front load years ago and noticed this issue. This machine doesn't have that problem at all. I am unsure if they have new features to eliminate that but it is GREAT. I love the way it cleans. I stuff it full and then some of cloths and they always come out smelling fresh and clean. I would highly recommend this machine.

When I moved into my new home over a year ago I purchased a new machine. Well of course the warranty is expired and the washer is a useless pile of junk. My husband would normally fix this but he passed away recently so I’m left hand washing everything until the lockdown is lifted. It won’t be a GE washer, that’s for sure.

Set aside a day, he cancelled went back and for with company over the warranty to the point that I just gave up! Tub is still rusted, constantly gets off-balance and makes a weird whining noise! Overall we've been happy with our GE washer. It gets our wash clean and is gentle on our clothes. The 2 things that have surprised me are 1. It's top loading without an agitator, but everyone threads stuck beneath the spin mechanism need to be cleaned out. 2. When using powder detergent, clothes look and smell clean when using powder (stains even come out), but there is almost always lots of powder left in the tray.

This machine, like most newer machines (no matter what the make & model) has a drawback of not providing enough water to do a great job. Although we always do a prewash with a drain and spinout of the prewash water prior to the wash cycle starring, we often have to rewash really dirty items & sports items to get out odors. The upside of the machine: Large capacity, plenty of wash choices, pre-wash cycle drains the rinse water and spins it out, no ugly buzzer but has nice chimes.??

The GE washing machine is nice because it washes the clothes really well. It cleans very well. You can program the washing machine so it fills up with water automatically depending on the amount of clothes which is a good feature. You don't have to program the water level every time you put in a load. The negative thing is that sometimes if you need to add more clothes once you've turned it on the door gets locked and it becomes very difficult to actually get the door to unlock so you can open the door. I've tried turning the washing machine off and there is a wait for the door to unlock and sometimes you have to turn it on and off a couple of times so it unlocks. I recommended the GE washing machine highly.

Lots of knobs is nice but longevity is the best asset. My GE washing machine is over 20 years old and still going like a champ. GE also has a service plan which is a nominal amount and paid monthly. I will never buy a GE product again for as long as I live. Unless you want a nightmare of issues with your appliances, I suggest you do the same. This all started close to a month ago when moving into our new home. It is a beautiful home, but it came with no appliances. We were trying to keep cost low, but still have a reliable product. As you know, buying a home isn’t cheap and the cost can rack up fast.
I had a link for GE’s clearance items through my work. So, I thought I’d give a look at the products and pricing. After a little research, I discover a washer/dryer combo. The pricing is fair and the product seems reliable. Appliances were one of many issues to take care of, as we all know other issues arise closing on a home. Oh, and also in the middle of all this my girlfriend started a new role at her job, and I work in the health industry which is now like the rest of the world experiencing a pandemic. Needless to say, other issues were on our mind. At least the appliances were taken care of.
Fast forward to move in day. All day we haven’t received a call from the delivery team coming the next day. Seems odd, so we decide to call and make sure everything is ok. My girlfriend spends 30 minutes on the phone only to be told that the items were cancelled. What? How can this be I never received any notification? Oh, I did actually now that I check... They sent me an email, around midnight the night before! I could not believe it. I take the phone to try and get clarification, and the customer service rep tells me that their clearance items go to the first come first serve and if I wanted to avoid this issue, I should've gotten new products. I’m angry, and frustrated but that won’t solve anything. Against my better judgement and with millions of other issues to worry about, I follow the rude reps advice and bite the bullet on getting a new pair from Home Depot.
After over a week of waiting they’re finally here! Everything goes as planned, but the gas dryer kit hose isn’t long enough. Well, at least that’s an easy fix (you would think). It took all day to find the kit, but when the day was over, I had a washer/dryer. That night we noticed the dryer was making a very loud sound upon rotating. Like something was winding up/grinding. So much so you could hear it through the door and into our bedroom. We call to see what our options are, and they suggest we pay for a repairman, or get a new unit since we’re still within our warranty date. So, we just go with a new unit. The problem is our current model is on backorder for 2 months. They suggest a sub model instead. Ok, fine. How long will that take? About a week. So we live with this for a week.
Receive no call, so we call them. Oh, they messed up your order so they had to cancel it. They re-order it. Pushes it back a week. We get a call that the delivery is cancelled this time, with no reason. So we call, again... “This is the wrong dryer. They switched it to where you were getting the one on back order, sorry. I have no idea why they (or we in this case GE) would do that.”
So this pushes it back again, and the soonest they have for delivery now is on a Tuesday. I’ll be at work and so will my girlfriend. I ask my dad if he can come, taking precaution because of COVID, and he obliges. Hopefully this will all be over after this. I should’ve known better. “Nope, they don’t have any orders in here to stack the washer and dryer, just to deliver it. “We were supposed to remove one too? We can’t just do that, we’ll be liable for all of it. GE should’ve put an order in.” Ridiculous.
While I’m trying to limit foot traffic in my home GE is increasing it through incompetence. I have a faulty gas dryer. One that I’m just trying to replace so my home doesn't explode and I can have dry clothes. We call GE. After another wonderful experience with the customer service team that takes a little over 45 min to an hour (average every time), they say they will fix the issue and deliver it next week. Fast forward to today. “This dryer is not compatible with your washer sir.” He’s right. You can clearly see that the stacking kit will not align. You’ve got to be kidding me. Something we’ve made clear to them multiple times on every “call" is that we have the units stacked. If you’re going to give us a sub model it HAS to be compatible.
Now I have a dryer on my floor that I can’t get back into place myself, an infuriated girlfriend, and a confused/disappointed delivery man. I call and after being on hold for 40 minutes get told that “they” screwed up our order again, and that “they don’t know why they would’ve ordered that model as it’s not compatible.” I feel like I’m in a twilight zone episode titled “Customer Service Hell. Stories from the GE service department.” Now, “Kat” the highest returns/service rep that I could talk to told me (very snarkingly) that I accept the lesser model that “is compatible,” or not. She said I could call to discuss some small form of reimbursement after, if I even “qualify for it.” Seriously the worst customer service I’ve ever had with any device ever.
You can google search my name and look at my history. I’ve never left a “review,” or “complaint” ever in my life for any product or service. I’m not that type of person. This is it though. The camel that broke my back. Considering I will never touch another product of theirs in my life, I figure the least I can do is warn others negotiating doing the same.

The only way you can get half a tub of water is to put it on bulky which helps but then the spin is slow and your clothes take longer to dry because they are so wet still. The agitator is so weak it will not pull the clothes down and some remain dry during the wash. I put in 2 single sheets to wash and I have pictures to prove at the end there were still dry spots. Don’t buy this. On another note the nice man at Canadian appliance that sold me this set said if I had any problems to call warranty line and not the store. Now I wonder what he knew that I didn’t. Be warned.

Just like everyone said before me. Unreliable, doesn't work properly. And you guessed it, the warranty is up. I would never recommend this product to anyone. If you have to replace a machine every two years you might as well spend your quarters down the street. Not made to last anymore. This must be a green machine because you have to take out your clothes and wring it out by hand. Doesn't even wash one towel anymore. Hope this makes you decide to buy another brand.

I called GE, set up an appointment, which I couldn’t get for another two weeks and there were no weekends. So I took off work. They were suppose to come from 8am-12pm. No one showed up. I called GE. They told me that the tech was off and they had no one else to cover. They never called me to tell me my appointment was cancelled and now I missed a day of work for nothing. I asked to speak to a manager and they told me that no managers were there today. Frustrating and worst experience ever!!!!

Don't waste your money. I wanted to buy an American made product and boy do I regret it. The washer barely fills even on "deep fill" and the clothes on the top of the wash load sit above the water because it doesn't move the clothes enough to get them wet, much less clean. I guess they figure the rinse cycle will give the illusion your clothes got washed because they finally get wet. Horrible customer service. My 3 month old dryer sounds like something inside it fell apart so I have to wait 7 days for GE to send an authorized technician to look at it. This is not a quality washer or dryer despite the 10 year limited warranty. DO NOT BUY the top load washer or dryer. Waste of money on junk.

It is suppose to be energy efficient and it is the worst experience I have ever had with a washer, it doesn't give me enough water to actually clean my clothes. Also, the pockets of detergent that have become so popular have too much detergent for this particular wash and leaves soap stains on my clothes. I am allergic to detergent and so I use dye free and perfume free but because this wash doesn't actually clean the clothes very well they still smell like dirt. If I owned the apartment I am renting from I would never use this washer. It is a pain in my side and so so sad. My brand new washing machine has been broken since September, and I am still going back and forth with GE. At first, the GE technician told me it was my fault - they said I wasn't loading the machine correctly. When they finally sent a third-party out to my house, the technician immediately identified the problem. They ordered the replacement part, but the wrong part was delivered to my house. When we finally got the new part, the technician was unable to install it, and ended up breaking another part in my washer. I have requested a new washer and GE continues to delay its response to my request. The GE products, technicians, and customer service reps have been horrible to deal with. I recommend going with another company.

I bought a brand new GE washing machine after my very old machine died after 20 years. I absolutely hate this new machine and makes doing laundry an even more unpleasant task than usual. For one I cannot stand that you cannot open the lid while the machine is on and if you do have to stop it it takes a very long time to stop before you can finally open the lid.
The most frustrating aspect of this machine is if the clothes are not balanced perfectly it makes a huge repeating bumping noise until you take the 2 to 4 times it takes to rebalance the clothes. No matter how level my washing machine is it does not matter. For such a large basin I find that I can only fill it about a quarter of the way or the machine has a lot of difficulty working properly. It is made of flimsy metal. Within a month of owning the corresponding dryer the top dented from the pressure of a fairly light laundry basket. I do not recommend any GE products. They are shoddy and cheap and I doubt these things will even last a year before they break down.

Guarantee Or Warranty Issues. Bought a new GE washing machine. After three months it stopped spinning. A GE REPAIRMAN CAME FOUR DIFFERENT TIMES, DECLARED IT FIXED, BUT IT WAS NOT. GE washer purchased 4/29/2019. It never worked correctly on bulk detergent dispenser. After three months it stopped spinning out water and clothes smelled terrible. Lowes sent a loaner for me because we couldn't get service in a timely manner. The repairman declared it fixed, but it wasn't. Someone came out 4 times, but the clothes came out grimy and with dirty streaks. GE said they would not try anymore because they said it was working as designed. Lowes wouldn't refund me for this "Lemon" because it was out of the 30-day return period but still within manufacturer's warranty. I argued with Lowes Headquarters, but they said it was my problem and they would not help me.
Finally, out of desperation, I purchased a Kenmore washer from Sears and it was delivered on September 13, the Friday before my sick husband went in the hospital with two massive subdural hematomas and subsequently died three weeks later. He was on home hospice and a washer was essential to keep him clean. The Sears machine has been great. Lowes and GE have been evil and selfish. I bought a lemon washing machine and they refused to refund or replace it, even though my extended warranty said "fix it fast or replaced free. "Their "policy" is you must return something within 30 days and after that it is under manufacturer's warranty for a year. The technicians they sent had bad attitudes and wouldn't even try to help me.
I am now a widow after a grueling, month long ordeal taking care of a dying man. They have no compassion for my dilemma, but my personal problems aside, they sold me a bad machine which broke after only three months. The GE "repairman" did not properly diagnose the problem and I was forced to buy another washing machine because GE would not stand behind their warranty, and Lowes would not help me either. Their idea of testing is to put it on a speed wash, but that doesn't illustrate the lack of cleaning by a defective machine. Last night I filed a complaint with the BBB against GE (I filed one on Lowes too, but they brushed me off as an irritant.).
11/20/2019 I received a call from Wendy ** from the Executive Offices of GE Appliances in Louisville, Kentucky in response to my BBB complaint. She says they will not refund my money because the “technician” says there is nothing wrong with the machine. She says it is probably my well water that is causing the problem, even though I told her I have a water softener system and a whole-house filtration system. I said that they only tested it on a “speed wash” and they couldn’t tell what the clothes were like after a full wash. She said “The technicians don’t have TIME to spend two hours waiting for a load of clothes to wash.” Apparently, it is my word against his and HE is the one they believe.
I have lived here 24 years and never had a problem with my water. Because GE only had one technician in my area, Lowes loaned me a Maytag for a month, which worked beautifully. I finally became desperate and bought a Kenmore from Sears. It works perfectly. All I want is a refund and to see GE and Lowes in my rear view mirror.

The repairman has been out 6 times, replacing everything possible but yet.... TODAY, it still won't spin/wash correctly. HE detergent residue left in the comforter ended up washing it twice. I try to get more water by waiting to put the clothes in after the machine fills, but then it doesn't put in enough for the rinse cycle. Also, even on "Delicate" cycle, it agitates frantically. What part of "delicate" does it not understand? I have literally had to carry gallons of water filled in the sink to add to the washer in order to wash a blanket or pillows. Why even make a full-sized machine if there is NO WAY to get it to fill with water? The result - I have to wash a few items at a time and do 2-3 times as many loads as should be necessary.
Also, after adding water to the wash, the machine will not put enough water for the rinse either, so I have to monitor it and add water AGAIN! Even with very little soap, there is still a soap residue on the clothes after they are "clean" and sometimes I have to do a second rinse. This is the WORST washing machine I've ever used! We bought a brand-new matching front loader washer and dryer in January 2017. Within the first year, we noticed that our clothes were starting to smell. It wasn’t until months later that we put it together. The problem was the washer. Our extended warranty company would not do anything because the washer worked, and they do not cover mold. We contacted GE, who after much hesitation sent out their service technician. Bear in mind, that we had thrown out hundreds of dollars in clothes before we know what was wrong. Our clothing smelled awful!
The service technician came out, he stated that this is a common problem. That owners were not properly maintaining their washers. It is a sad affair when you must have a maintenance program for an appliance. We reviewed what he, the service technician said that we needed to do. And for the most part, we were doing what he said. Dialogue with GE continued. This all happened from the latter part of 2018, until they GE, agreed to replace all the hoses, gaskets and the pump. This was the recommendation of their own service technician! GE supplied the parts; we paid the labor of $151.66.
At this point the washer should be under their warranty, as they said that this should solve the problem. It did, for about 2 months. The same smell returned, we contacted GE. They offered to give us a nominal discount if we bought a new GE washer. Really… Didn’t we just buy a new washer 2 years ago? We pushed for GE to do more; GE in turn shut us out. They do not respond to our emails, and if we call, our numbers go straight to the service department to schedule for a pay service call. Yes, we have the emails and the paid receipt. JK

I just had it serviced AGAIN today and the GE tech replaced the Inverter Machine Control Board and drain pump since it was leaking liquid. After he left, I put a load of 5 towels in and 1 hour and 45 minutes later the machine shut itself off and towels still soaking wet. The spin cycle tangles clothes so bad that even after putting in the dryer they still have wrinkles. You will definitely be doing more ironing. Plus the water sucks out from the bottom and it is fraying a lot of the clothes. This is where you will be spending a lot more money buying clothes because it will ruin them. Also if you do blankets or even sheets it becomes unbalanced and will walk itself right out of your laundry room and literally right through the door. If I had to do over this would not be my washer. What was once one super large load for my old GE machine has to be accomplished in three "super" loads for my new machine. Even then, clothes come out of the wash with dirty lint adhering to the folds. The drum is large and roomy causing you to believe it can handle a regular large load. Alas. It is a lie. Even the owner's reference guide claims there are three water levels with the highest showing the water raising to the top of the agitator. Lies. The "Deep Fill" option does little if anything to address the problem.
2. You have to program your cycle upfront and cannot change it midstream without starting the entire cycle over again. My old machine allowed me to easily back-up and repeat one individual cycle of rinse or spin without having to go through the entire wash cycle once again.
3. I know I'm paying extra money for unnecessary bells and whistles. Does one really need your machine to play you a song when it begins the wash cycle and when it ends? How in the world did I figure out my washing machine was starting and ending the wash cycle for the previous 40+ years I've been doing laundry? I know if the computer chip malfunctions, the repair cost for these machines will be stupidly high.
4. It has trouble remaining balanced when washing heavier items like blankets and mattress pads. The machine practically becomes a walking monster, threatening to charge out the door and quit its awful job!
In summary, stay away from this machine. I wish I had my old machine. Grandma's wringer washer worked better than this one!

I don't know who changes everything to make things "better" but this washer, and most brands from what my friends have suggested, are worse than ever. This washer will NOT spin things such as bath rugs or a blanket or other things even on heavy duty or bulky setting. I have had to run several cycles to luck up on one that actually spins so that it isn't so heavy and dripping with water and so heavy that you can't even lift it out of the tub!!! It has happened over and over!!!
I have run several loads, not even a full load, and put the setting on deep fill, and when I pull my clothes out, (which I just did, thus this review that is overdue from the week I first got it 3 yrs. ago and $650) and places on the clothes are as dry as a bone :(. Even deep fill won't wash your clothes. I hate this washer! And if you want to add something, the darn lid locks so you have to pause and wait until it decides to unlock to add. I like to add my powder detergent after the water is in the tub so you have to babysit it until that happens, otherwise the detergent cakes on the side of the tub and there it sits, wash after wash unless by chance the waterline HAPPENS to reach that level. Bottom line.... Do not buy this washer.... You will want your old one back even if it is broken. We had a refrigerator by GE that we bought in 1979 and it lasted for about 25 years and we loved it so much. Wish we had loved this purchase that much.

I purchased the washer and dryer new in 12/2018 and have had nothing but trouble. When you wash anything with sleeves and legs they get all knotted up every time I wash this type of clothing. Due to the low water levels they don't get clean, and have parts of the clothes dry. Have had a service calls and was told only can use "Super" wash level and "Bulky items" settings, so the other functions are useless. It gets off balance many times and moves across the floor. I have another service call scheduled to follow the guidelines of now on to the Consumer Relations Dept. This is the poorest engineered design. The dryer "balls" the clothes up in one lump, like a cocoon. I am fighting for a return of washer and dryer as they both are worthless to me when they don't work properly and I am stuck babysitting them when I use them, just to get through the cycles. VERY DISSATISFIED WITH THESE. DO NOT BUY THEM!!!

I bought the original washer in 2008, GE has replaced it 5 times. The problem is it rusts. It reminds me of the Automobiles of the 50 and 60s. They used incorrect metal for the appliance and did not finish it with the correct process. Appliances should last 10/12 years according to consumer reports. These start to rust after 1 years and by 2/3 years they are unusable. Rust covering anything in the pedestal. If you buy one make sure you get the extended warranty from a reliable company.

I have had this washer just over a year. Why you shouldn't buy this model: It takes forever to wash a load. It stops constantly to "check" the water level. It is loud. My home office is right beside the laundry room - has been for years. It is loud for every cycle. The clothes come out a tangled mess. Socks in sleeves and wadded all together. Everything needs ironed. The clothes come out with soap on them. (We put soap in 1st and add extra water.) I can't open the lid without it stopping the washer and having to restart it. It has a musty smell when not in use. I have run vinegar through the lines and empty loads, in 30+ years- I have never smelled stale water from the washer.

My advice to anyone... Do NOT ever, EVER buy a GE washer. It's garbage. I bought a GTW485AJS. It puts almost NO water in the basket, and the agitator cranks on nothing by damp clothing, literally SHREDDING the stuff because there is hardly any water. The "rinse" is just a spin while spraying water. All my older (classic) washers did that too, it's an efficient way to rinse the clothing. But this thing spins the clothes hard against the barrel, then sprays DOWN THE AGITATOR. So all the spray water missed the clothing, and goes down the drain. In other words it's actually WASTING THE WATER.
For 60+ years, washer manufacturers made machines that would rinse correctly. But suddenly GE is loaded with incompetent engineers who can't design a quality unit... After two tears of complaining, and them sending third party service people out to look at it, I gave up. All the third party service people EVER told me was "Yeah, everyone is complaining about these. That's just the way they are."

I bought this washing machine last year and have been miserable with this machine ever since! The worst feature of this machine is that the clothes come out terribly wrinkled! You will have to iron everything including sheets, towels, and clothing. The sheets are so wrinkled beyond belief! Also, the clothes do not get completely wet while being washed and some of the clothes are still partly dry from when you put them in. ALso, when washing towels or sheets, they shift to one side which causes the washer to "walk out" from the wall and you will have to push the washer back against the wall because it has come away from the wall by 2 feet. DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF JUNK unless you LOVE to iron!

I did not get this lemon back to Lowe’s in 30 days, my bad, thought extended warranty covered me there, it does not. Lowe's fail to warn me of this detail in VERY FINE PRINT. TRIED TO USE THIS MACHINE 6 times at our cabin, it failed miserably all six times. In essence, use the use the check system of what it is SUPPOSED TO DO, and then check off what it DID NOT DO, WHICH WAS ALL OF THE ABOVE. NOW, this is a HE Machine mind you.
Tried to return this item, but no, I had to have it checked out before I could replace it with another lemon. I did have it checked out, techs said this just the way it worked!!! Which is pure BS WHEN YOU SPEND THAT KIND OF MONEY FOR A TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE appliance. What happened to the old type of machines where it filled with water to cover the clothes, and got them clean, it rinsed all the soap out, it spun your clothes dry. Voila!
So now I am at a crossroad with no really good option. Arrived at a solution, going to Salvation Army and DONATE THIS DAMNED THING, surely the Lord won’t hold it against me since I did not lie about it like GE did to me. I only said I did not like it, and was not going to use it. And that is not a lie. Kudos here is that I have a receipt, and can deduct it off of 2019 tax write off.
FYI BUY A Speed Queen, even if you have to finance it, it will pay you back 10 fold. Washers are guaranteed for 15 years, dryers for 25. I have them in my home. Buy LW 432Sp115Tw01, they changed the way these work in 2019. Dont buy those, you want the 2017 model, for a good reason. THEY WORK and without sensors, old fashioned type.

I ended up purchasing a service contract (which I rarely buy) from the repairman as I thought I would probably need it as this sound seems wearing. I wish I had kept the washer I had before this one. I bought the pair of GE Profile series washer and dryer. I have never had a problem with the dryer but the washing machine is a different story. It sounded like an airplane when it was running from day one. It does not have the regular type agitator. This one is suppose to save on water but NEVER puts enough water to wash the clothes. I always have to add water from a pitcher I keep in the stationary tub in the utility room.
In order to start the washer there is a little button on the panel. You almost need to use your knuckle to push it in to start it. This button had to be replaced twice since I had it. This washer right now sounds like it is dying - my opinion is that it is straining to run because of the low water level it puts in. I want to buy a new washer but the cost of a new decent one has held me back and also this one is rusting out on the top where you put the bleach in. I never had one that did this either. I will not buy another one without the regular agitator - I hope they still have them available. No more GE washers for me.

To me this unacceptable. Will never buy GE product again. Very sad. The quality of everything is so poor. Everyone I spoke to said you're forced to buy warranties, nothing is good quality, even much more expensive appliances. I guess I should buy older appliances that will last last for years. We have a brand new GE washing machine that was installed September 2018. It is Feb 2019 and we are on our SECOND repair call THIS MONTH. 2/1/2018 they sent someone out to repair the machine because it dragged a blanket down into the drain area of the machine. I never knew this was possible but there we were. Of course CS does not care and I have to wait days to get someone out. (Side note, the dryer also had to be repaired at that time for faulty start button).
Now on 2/22/2019 the same washing machine stopped after the wash cycle, failed to continue to rinse and spin and turned off. It was at this time that we discovered a horrible burning smell coming from the machine and that the tub has filled with BLACK water. Yes this means an entire load of clothes has been turned black and is sitting in black water. We unplugged the machine, checked for fires and started our odyssey of trying to get GE to actually care.
Since it is the weekend no one seems to think this is an emergency worth anyone's time or attention. Of course we can get a service call on Monday afternoon - the last available service call for a few weeks BTW. When we owned a Maytag we had service within the day EVEN ON WEEKENDS. We did not choose GE. They came with a new home we had built. And I think I can say that I do not think I will ever buy GE products again and may even set this one by the curb with "Ask me about my GE washing machine" on it and buy something else.

Great washer overall. But the problem is with the energy saving low amount of water the washer uses. In order for stains to be removed, I must use a stain remover. The low water level, which is not adjustable, does not move the clothing around enough for a good washing for stained items. I found the items washed didn’t rinse enough, so everything I wash has to have an extra rinse. I do use the proper detergent for these machines and measure accurately. I will NEVER buy another GE washer. My mother, my daughter, a family friend and I ALL had the same horrific experience. The washer will fill, and fill, and fill until it overflows. You must push dial in to stop the flow of water then manually turn dial to rinse/spin and pray for the water to drain. Then you have to open the top/faceplate/control panel where there is a clear tube on the left. Unhook tube, BLOW into tube and it might work if you start a new wash cycle. Call GE to order the part connected to tube because that’s what’s bad, they REFUSE to help. Want to send a tech at $90 per hour. Won’t tell you part number. Won’t stand behind warranty.
Mine didn’t even last a year, my mother and daughter each started having problems at about the 14-month mark. Mind you, they each are single, live alone and do maybe two loads per week. My friend’s washer was 12 months old. I warn everyone of our experience. The floor under my washer had to be ripped up and replaced. What a nightmare. I called Home Depot, who got in contact with GE themselves somehow (because I was never able to get anyone on the phone using their 800 #) and scheduled to have a technician come in. The technician was very rude and had zero customer service skills or etiquette for that matter. As I tried asking questions about the condition of my dryer, I was having a conversation with the back of his head the entire time.
Before he walked out of my house and barely stated something about me having to wait for some part to be ordered, and then schedule for another technician to come at a later date to fix the dryer. Now I have to yet again deal with the inconvenience of having to drag bags of laundry to a public laundromat in the interim. They also claimed to have the part available and not on backordered or anything. However, they can't even expedite the service to my dryer so that I don't have to further go through any more inconvenience. This machine also seems to have a huge problem with the loads being unbalanced and when that occurs the machine makes VERY LOUD BANGING NOISES and literally walks across the floor.
The Samsung never became unbalanced. Dollar for dollar, I prefer clean clothes for a lower priced machine so I put up with the banging and adjust the loads. All the dial choices make you think you’ll have choices for the amount of water for your load. NOT! With all settings - except “Bulky” the machine fills with 4 to 6 inches of water. With “Bulky” it fills almost to the top. So... conserving water is a laugh - unless you only wash a couple items - in 4 inches of water. The only “go around” I’ve found is to start with the “Bulky” setting, stand & wait ‘til it fills to desired level then pause machine, change to any other setting, then I un-pause, it’ll wash at that level. Then - during the rinse cycle- do the same - pause - switch to “Bulky” wait for desired water level to fill - pause- switch to another cycle - un-pause. How convenient is that!
This is not a great machine for anyone washing more than some socks & shirts. If the idea is to save water- then they’re fooling no-one- extra loads to complete your laundry or completely filling the machine each time is not efficient - for the user anyway. The one positive feature I can offer is it spins dry the clothes very well - not using the dryer for very long - that’s a plus.

They advised they had designed the washers to spin at 800 revolutions per minute instead of 400 as their method of spinning more water out of clothes. This increase in the RPMs is primarily responsible for the problem. Prior to this purchase I had never even contacted a Washer Mfg for any problems. Their solution (the pads) although helpful have not prevented the problem. Very poor engineering as well as customer service.
