Our F&P Eco washer pump has gone out several times. The last time it went out later last year, I searched this site. I called the F&P service manager who posts on this site and received phenomenal service. I left a voicemail over night, got a call back the next morning, and someone was at the house that afternoon to repair. Well, it's early Saturday morning, and we are taking a road trip next week. I got the clothes together to wash last night and heard that familiar noise to let me know the pump has gone awry... again! Agh!

It always comes at the most inconvenient time! My son has a swimming lesson later this morning so I had to pull his swim body suit out to let it air dry. I'm looking at 5 loads of clothes on our floor. Hopefully, F&P will come through this time and stand by the faulty design/pump that these machines have. I've called and emailed the person who helped last time (**) so hopefully, I'll hear back from her ASAP.

I've had a Fisher Paykel washer & dryer for 8 years and overall happy with it. My problem is the dryer has stopped drying as quickly (taking 2+ hours for one load). I've called local repairmen and was told they can't repair this brand. I found one in a neighboring town who will come and look at it but will cost a minimum $115 for a service call. Why can't all repairmen work on this particular brand?

I purchased the FP Eco washer and dryer at Lowe's on 5-12-09. The washer died yesterday after only 4 years. I was told by the salesman that FP was a superior product and I especially liked the "ECO" features as I am environmentally conscious. To call a serviceman and pay $100s in repairs is not worth it. I may as well buy a new washer. So much for ECO friendly as my FP washer will now wind up in a dump. FP washer was a total waste of money. This time, I'll buy another Maytag. My last one lasted 10 years.

We just moved into a new house that was a builder's model furnished with a Fisher Paykel DD603. Home is about 3 years old. Looked up customer satisfaction opinions for F&P - not good, but it was already installed. 2 weeks to the day, we got an F1 code (aka Flood Alert). There was a small amount of water emanating from the RHS of the upper drawer. Thought maybe a poor seal or gasket. Couldn't find anything wrong. I called for service. The tech showed up and advised that I/we need a new motor that secures the drawers. Only $400 for parts! I do not think so. Now in search of a replacement unit.

I made the mistake of purchasing the FP Eco washer, reading the reviews - a total waste of money. It is only 3 years old and has a water pump 3 mo. old; I purchased it from Craigslist. I got one wash cycle out of it and it stopped draining. All we get is error code #37. We've researched this error code 37 and tried to fix it ourselves and cannot. We now have to go out and buy a new one. I plan to purchase an Amana which we had before that lasted for 8 years without one repair ever.

First, I must begin with Consumer Affairs thank you! I was shocked to the response time since writing the original complaint. The response time was incredible. I received a phone call from Fisher Paykel customer service within five days of posting on Consumer Affairs, in length discussed my concerns by phone. She took control of the issue from Sears and resolved the problem quickly with no hesitations. Plus the representative called Sears and advised they would resolve the issue. I'm still catching my breath.

Sears was handling this service order, however, I had concerns since the problem was misdiagnosed and parts ordered were the original part(s) being replaced. In my view, being mechanically inclined, could not consciously believe the problem in time would not reoccur. Meaning if Sears was not replacing with the newest upgrade of the item, then the problem would reoccur in time (example: when the extended warranty/service contract expires). Sounds familiar, umm. The technician from Fisher Paykel was on point and installed the newest part (in this case, an upgraded computer main board which the tech pointed out the stock part numbers were different). The new MB has an inline fuse which helps maintain the regulator from burning out.

If I was asked would I buy another Fisher Paykel, answer is yes! Thank you Lesett and John! If Sears is continuing to sell FP products, I suggest to take the courses in order to repair a product satisfactorily where the consumer has no worries and dances around the facts on tic and tact of what you did but didn't do correctly.

Our service technician came this morning and the washer is fixed. No parts needed! Apparently, a couple of tub support/positioning springs came undone during a spin cycle when a load unbalanced. A Fisher Paykel customer service manager called and spoke with my wife. My wife still loves her washer and dryer and was favorably impressed by the service manager call. So, my complaint is resolved. Thank you.

We bought a Fisher Paykel Ecosmart washer and a Smartload dryer in July of 2012. We've had 3 service calls on the dryer to correct problems with the drum position (idlers, bearings, etc). We now have a broken washer that will have to wait until after Memorial Day to be serviced. Apparently, a support and positioning spring on the tub has disconnected. These two appliances now have the honor of having more service calls on them than all four (different brand) predecessors combined. All service has been performed by the technicians from Appliance Village (where we bought them).

Single man. I noticed a few issues. I've owned several brands over many yrs. Machine is barely two yrs old and used once/twice a week, small loads of wash. Over the span The Tub was replaced - top ring as well - I notice water on the floor (from reading, others have experienced the same). Until recently, after adding a small load and pushing start, I heard a POP then a burnt smell. I did not stop the wash cycle. I allowed the cycles to start; however, it never rinsed and continued to wash and reload water. Repairman misdiagnosed the problem and ordered the wrong part. Second repairman installs and discovers the MAIN BOARD is burnt. I must point out each time a tech is called if the problem is not corrected and the tag is not closed as completed, it continues the repair on the same reference number even though repairs were done (tech was called for home service). It won’t count as four occurrences but Two - an argument for extended warranties supplied by Sears.

Yes!! I agree Fisher Paykel washers should be recalled and possibly a Class Action suit. A potential FIRE HAZARD APPLIANCE, NO QUESTION OF DOUBT. IT’S FACT! Currently the Main Board is on order. I have spoken with Sears; however, I plan to contact (suggestion for others with known issues) C.F.P.B. (Consumer Financial Protection Bureau) and the Attorney General. A high-end commodity should not risk Life. In this matter I won’t need an attorney - I have zeal.

I have a Fisher Paykel washer and dryer that’s a little over 3 years old. The washing machine agitator broke, and it wouldn't drain water. Now it is fixed, but it doesn't even really clean the clothes and doesn't spin the water out like advertised. The dryer is junk. We have had a certified Fisher Paykel repair man try to fix it twice. It took a while for the part to come in, and then it didn't fix the problem. I just recently replaced the bearing assembly, and it still sounds like the dryer is going to literally take off through the ceiling. I have contacted customer service, only to have the wrong part sent to me. When I called to let them know they sent the wrong part, I was told that the part I needed would cost me an additional $50 dollars.

I can't express how upset I am that I paid the money for this set when the washer and dryer were under warranty; it probably should have just been replaced. The customer service always had some crazy solution or excuse! I will never recommend this brand to anyone. I would rather hand wash and dry my clothes than to have to listen to the loud, ridiculous noises that come from the washer and dryer. I don't understand how a company can sell something and not even bother to warranty or care about their product or their customers! Company failure!

Approximately seven years ago, we purchased a Fisher Paykel washer from a local Lowes. I really liked the idea of using less water. The change from a regular dial machine to electronic push button seemed like a nice update. I will say that the only thing I like about this machine was that the spin cycle was very efficient and the clothes had much less moisture, resulting in far less drying time in the clothes dryer. The purpose of my review is to warn everyone what a horrible experience we have had with this brand. We have had to have this machine repaired four times by a professional. We have spent more money on repairs than the original purchase of the machine. We will never purchase anything by Fisher Paykel again. I strongly warn others about this brand. It is a complete waste of money.

I have just bought a Fisher and Paykel fridge (E373L WW). I chose this brand only because nobody else makes a fridge of this size without a freezer. Well, nobody whose products are imported into New Zealand, anyway. I don't need a freezer. I lost confidence in Fisher Paykel many years ago. It is so hard to believe this company was once so highly revered by every New Zealand housewife. They made washing machines and fridges that never break down; well, not until well into old age. I still have in use a chest freezer made by them in the 1970's. They must have made enough profit in those days making products that lasted. Why can't they still do so? My fridge is only 6 weeks old and appears to be working fine. The two stars is not for the fridge but the company.

Fisher & Paykel will not let you talk to their technician to explain how the griddle is working. We are unable to get a phone number where we can talk to someone who understands how the griddle is supposed to work.

One of the service reps in New Zealand asked us to fax all the records we have kept on the problems with this range. The number he gave us would not go through. I think he did not want to give us a correct number. He would not even give us his last name so we could talk to him again! I bought my washer GWL15 in February 2007. The fins on the agitator are all hanging by a thread of plastic. I would not have expected that to go wrong. I have been reading reviews from other people. Very interesting. I need a new agitator so I am wondering if it's worth replacing? We get white marks on the clothes after they are washed and it sounds like so do a lot of other people? I called a repair company for my dryer DEGX2 because it wasn't heating up. Fisher and Paykel ecosmart washer model WA37T26G - I have had nothing but problems with this machine. I bought it because the salesmen at Lowe’s were pushing it in 2008. I will be turning this over to the Attorney General, as this is clearly a faulty product and there is almost nonexistent customer support. The servicer for Fisher and Paykel was extremely rude to me, to the point we did not let him into our house after the initial diagnosis under warranty. We paid $573, and I have had many of the problems described on this forum (a faulty inlet valve, smoke filling our utility room, tub not draining/spinning, and readjusting the load several times during each cycle - and going off balance so badly to the point it has gouged our floor, not to mention the huge waste of money). I believe it is a dangerous product, due to the amount of problems it has had. I will not be having another service call, as it will be another waste of money, only to happen again and again. This machine should have been recalled for several issues.

I have never been as pleased with any appliance I have ever purchased as I am with my washing machine. I bought it after my heavy duty Whirlpool motor burned out after 4 years. It has everything I could ask for in a washing machine. The wool cycle is great for today's new wools. I have never had it repaired for any reason. When it got out of balance the first time, I used the service summary and put it back in balance myself and have been fixing it myself ever since. Dark clothes appear to have white streaks like large amounts of soap haven't been removed. I've tried different detergents and numerous cleaning cycles. Thank the dear Lord we purchased the extended warranty! Since October 2012 we've had 7 repairmen and 3 parts replaced. The last repair was on Wednesday, 4-17-13. The 2nd load of clothing came out exactly like it did the very first time in October. Are you kidding me!

Now another repairman on 4-26-13 and then I'm assuming another part. I have no idea what part hasn't been replaced! After 4 new replacement parts and still having the problems, we will get a gift certificate from Lowe's for a replacement. You can bet it won't be FP! Eco smart washer - Well I bought this in 2011 in Lakeport at the Sears. I noticed right away that my whites weren't getting white, even though I use Clorox. The next thing was having to constantly re-balance the clothes. Also, my clothes constantly get wound around the thing in the middle. The paddles should have gone all the way to the bottom of the tub. Instead there's like 4" below where clothes can get stuck. Then I did a test with the hot water. I pressed wash in hot water and when it was half-full, I opened the machine and it was cold. Well I tried turning off the cold valve and then I tried using the cold button seeing if they were switched. Then I had a problem where it wouldn't drain. Well it drains now. Clothes still get stuck, get stretched and sometimes ripped, and then come to find out that the hot button doesn't mean wash with hot. It means fill to 2" with hot and then continue filling with cold. The repairman for Sears phoned Paykel and that is what the tech told him is normal for washing in hot.

I am steaming mad. Who wants to join a class action lawsuit with me? I am that angry.

I have had this machine since 2004. Early in its life, I had to have the motor controller replaced (under warranty). Machine has worked great until last month; the drain pump failed. I paid $140 for a new pump with an added fuse link. I installed it myself which was very easy. I wired in the fuse link and bam! I was back in action! After 3 weeks of normal use, during a wash cycle, I heard a loud pop and went to investigate. Upon opening the laundry room, I instantly smelled something electrical burning.

I unplugged the unit and removed the panel, opened the controller and saw that it fried! Ugh! I just put $140 into this machine and it's dead again! That's $200 for a new controller that could possibly fry upon installation? I'm not sure I want to do that. Should I stick with Fisher and Paykel or gamble with another brand? I like the product but the reviews are steering me away!

First washer purchased in 2001 had problem going from wash cycle to rinse in 2006. We tried contacting Fisher & Paykel and got no response, no support, and no help! We replaced a diverter valve, and then a circuit board, only to have wasted our money. We wrote a formal letter to F & P Customer Care USA (Irvine, CA) on Sept 21, 2007 letting F & P know that the diverter valve and circuit board only lasted 9 months before it repeated. No response was ever received from F & P Customer Care USA. That pretty sums up the amount of support/customer care you will receive.

We liked the technology; and despite the lack of support, customer service, or response, we bought a GW12 and disposed of our six-year-old GWll. No problem with our GW12 from 2007 until 2013. Now, our GW12 is having the same problem! It appears that both of our Fisher & Paykel washers only have a six-year life cycle. I will write another formal letter to Fisher & Paykel Customer Care USA, but I do not expect I will ever hear from Fisher & Paykel.

From my perspective, Fisher & Paykel washers have a planned obsolescence of six years, and clearly they lack an infrastructure for support or customer service in the USA. I would recommend that you only buy their products if you like changing your major appliances out frequently. If you do purchase Fisher & Paykel products in the USA, then expect to be on your own with no support or any customer service.

One last item, the letters to FP Consumer Customer Care USA contained two emails for response and one mobile phone number. It is on 24/7, 365 days a year!

Agren Appliances, from whom we bought the machine, sent out a technician to take a look but no remedy found. We have taken the damaged clothing to them and shown them what happens. They kindly gave us some powder detergent but the FP booklet recommends HE liquid detergent only.

On calling FP customer service, we were told we were probably using too much detergent. Ha, if we use any less, we wonder whether our clothes will actually be cleaned! So what do we do? This machine is less than 1 year old and it's a disaster. There is no support from the store we bought it from (despite having taken out extra service warranty) and FP doesn't want to help either. Surely, a machine cannot be HE if after washing it leaves clothes with dark streaks on them, hence needing a second wash! I don't see the efficiency in that! There seems to be little option other than to take it to the scrap heap and buy a new machine, different brand naturally. Hunk of junk, never to be recommended to anyone.

Fisher & Paykel Ecosmart Top Load Washer - I bought a washer and dryer set from Lowe's 3 1/2 years ago and have no complaints about the dryer. It is very efficient and dries quickly and thoroughly, but the washer is another story. I have had many garments to come out mangled. The detergent never seems to rinse completely, and over the last 6 months, the washer has only been spinning intermittently. Now, it is not draining or spinning and I am waiting days for a service call. After reading these reviews, I don't feel very hopeful for a quick or permanent resolution. The salesperson at Lowe's touted the brand highly. When the repairman comes Monday, if he gives an expensive quote, I will be calling the scrap metal man to pick it up and will go buy another brand. Very disappointed as I paid over $500 for this machine. Never again. And I will tell all my friends.

In 2008, I purchased a washer/dryer from F&P. The person talked me into an F&P when I really wanted something else. Never hearing about this product, he convinced me it’s the best out there and their biggest seller. Boy, he was wrong! The washer sounds like a jet airplane when it spins. Sometimes, I have to spin them twice to get all the water out. The bearings in the dryer have been replaced 2-3 times, the thermostat, sensor module, and central module. Each time was at least $100 or more for a total of 5-6 times. I contacted a representative and was given a case number. Today, I called because the bearings are going again. That means another service charge. The next step will be the curb!

A few years ago, my husband replaced the pump himself. Now, my pump is out again; the part is $130. We have decided to not put any more money into this appliance. This is the second set of washer and dryer we have owned. Our daughter has the first set, and after 15 years, it is still working great. Due to a re-location, we purchased a new washer and dryer. The washer works fine. The dryer, on the other hand, is not working out. We had the repairman come out due to the fact that the dryer overheated. It had to be taken apart and all the lint had to cleaned up. As per the repairman, it is a design flaw. This has to happen every third week; the lint builds up so fast so I empty the lint holder every time I finish drying a load. We have had our dryer vent cleaned from the outside, and just to be sure, we cleaned it from the inside also. We are not happy with this dryer. My husband said we should just get a cheap dryer somewhere. I had so much confidence in Fisher Paykel that’s why we bought this second set.

I bought a brand new FP washer and dryer the end of 2006. I paid approximately $1,000.00 each for them, because the salesperson assured me what a wonderful company FP is and how wonderful their products are. Well, what a waste of my hard earned money. I have had the washer fixed 3 times and the pump just went out of it again. I am awaiting the repairman to return with the part to fix it. In the meantime, I am spending at least $40.00 a week at the laundromat. I have had the dryer fixed twice. The last time, it put little holes in my clothes so I lost a ton of money in ruined clothing. I am lucky that there is a repairman in our area who knows what he's doing. However, it is always at least 3 weeks until the repair is completed. First, he has to come out to see what's wrong; then order the part; then come back out to repair it.

Now when you figure it out, I am spending at least $120.00 at the laundromat, plus I have the cost of the repairs. This time the repairs will be at least $200.00. During the Christmas season, both Lowe's and Home Depot had a washer/dryer pair for around $400.00. Considering the amount of money I already have invested in FP washer/dryer, the extravagant purchase price, the amount of money I have invested for repairs to both units, the amount of money I have invested in the laundromat and the continuous inconvenience, I would be farther ahead to buy a cheap set and replace them every two years. Now I will say that FP reimbursed a portion of the first repair; however, when I advised them of the second repair, they basically said that appliances don't last forever.

I can't say that forever is 3 or 4 years. Considering the price of FP, I would expect them to last at least 10 years. I am very disappointed in the FP brand and have to say that I will not consider purchasing that brand again. I have just spent the past hour reading the reviews on this website and it seems to me that FP just produces an inferior product. FP should take action to compensate people and not just tell them that they are sorry to hear of their problems or that their concerns have been forwarded to a senior representative.

This is the third F+P 2-drawer dishwasher we bought; two of them are in our rental flats in London, England. Both have been okay and the service in London was excellent. The one we have in Pennsylvania, I knew when it was problematic there would be no service. These hicks here don't even know what the brand name is.

F+P New Zealand recommended two service companies. First, one guy never heard of the equipment but booked his in law to do the service. On the day of the service after waiting a week, the wife of the guy said he has the flu and must cancel. We have been down since Christmas day and it's now the 9th of Jan. She didn't know when he could reschedule.

The other one had an answering service and I left a message 10 days ago and again twice today, the 10th. The service leads you to a message that says leave your number which I did now 3 times. And if we want faster service, email them at a certain address which we did only to get a message that 10 days ago they changed their address to something else. Still no calls. This is hopeless and I do not recommend anyone to buy this unit in the US unless you are in the bigger cities where service companies are plentiful and they know the products. I loved the unit until I tried to get it serviced. I will never buy another and we own 46 properties.

After the warranty expired, I have paid to have them all repaired. I finally took the dishdrawer to the dump and just went out and bought a new washer and dryer set. They too will also end up going to the dump. They both still work, but leave my clothes smelling (tried everything to make that go away) and never feel like my clothes are clean. I have never been so disappointed in winning something and I have regretted getting rid of my old washer and dryer set that worked like a charm. Anyways, I have had them for just about a year now and cannot wait to get something new. The washer always stops working and won't spin out. So I have to wring out the clothes. The washer doesn't wash them very well. I can still smell odors after my clothes have been washed and dried. I don't know why, but all of our clothes are getting these small holes all over them. The lip on the washer locks so you can start it after you put detergent in. I can go on and on.

Save yourself the trouble and buy a Maytag or Whirlpool, anything but this. It's cheap and the makers should be ashamed. But I don't think they will be around long. You market garbage and you’re soon to be out of business. Hope someone actually reads this before they buy one. I wish I did. From the looks of the ratings, everyone else seems to think the same.

    Dear Suzanne,

Thank you for your post. We are sorry you feel this way. Any debris that is small i.e. bobby pins, coins, jewelry etc can possibly get into the pump and cause it to fail. This can happen with any brand washer. It does not mean the appliance is of a bad design or that it is poor quality, it simply means these items should not be put in the washer if at all possible. When it was finally installed, it didn't work! First, the bottom drawer didn't drain. We called a plumber to come look at it. He called the Fisher & Paykel appliance rep. They recommended that we install two separate drain lines. It still didn't drain. The appliance guy and plumber each came out again and we even tried a different plumber. Now the bottom drawer drains but the top one doesn't, which completely defeats the purpose of having a dual drawer dishwasher.

We contacted Fisher and Paykel and Lowes where we purchased the appliance and neither would offer any assistance as the warranty had expired. We have only used the machine 20 times. It's such a shame and waste. Our KitchenAid dual drawer dishwasher at our old home worked much better with no problems. We had bought this one because we were told it was quieter. We bought our F&P Dish Drawer DD603 in 2002 during a kitchen remodel along with new countertops, Sub-zero, stove, microwave, etc. I would say we use our dishwasher regularly but no more than expected and especially at the price we paid. That said, I think at this point, I've paid in repair costs pretty much what I paid for the unit plus extended warranty plus installation back then. When our extended service warranty ran out years ago, the DIY in me took on the task of diagnosing, buying, and replacing the parts myself.

However, I'm now at the point of deciding whether to cut my losses and toss the whole thing out. Last Oct., there was a leak, which rendered the unit inoperable. I replaced the shorted main filter board, both top and bottom wiring harness, and the bottom controller. All was well for about a month. Then, it looked like the top drawer's lid wasn't closing securely as I find moisture on the side of the tub after a complaint of beeping dilemma. (She swears there wasn't anything remotely big in the tub that would prevent the lid from closing.) In any case, the top drawer controller seems to be a goner.

Last night, I replaced the top controller. The top unit did light up, but my wife did the trial run using the bottom drawer instead. The top drawer practically beeped all night and no amount of coaxing, turn off, lock, open drawer, etc., would silence it. No codes, just R2D2 on a binge. What's next? Replace the main filter again, a bad controller, replace the actuators, the entire lid, etc.? I have two choices now: (a) somehow rig this unit to see if it can operate with the good bottom drawer only or (b) cut my losses, parcel out my recently purchased parts on eBay, and replace the dishwasher? One of my neighbors bought the same F&P DD unit, but I'm afraid to check with her about her experience.

Fisher and Paykel dryer DEIX2 - I purchased this dryer at Lowe's approximately 4 years ago. During the four years, we've had the lint scraper replaced two times. It has broken again. When the lint scraper breaks, all of the lint from your clothes ends up getting caught inside the mechanism of the dryer or pushed out the dryer vent. We typically know we have a problem when the clothes stop drying in a timely manner; little lint is in our lint trap and the dryer vent has visible lint blocking it from the exterior of the house. It is somewhat surprising this dryer has not caused a fire. I've had enough of worrying about lint getting trapped in our dryer vent and/or our lint trap breaking. The lint trap works perfectly for a short time frame, but the design and materials are not nearly robust enough for the premium you pay for this product. There is absolutely no question, this is the absolute worst appliance or piece of equipment I've every purchased. I would give the dryer 0 stars if that was an option.

We have had a repairman at our home a minimum of 5 times each year for both products. I really am not exaggerating. In the beginning, the work was covered by warranty. For several years, we have been paying out of pocket. Each visit has cost between $100 and $500. We have waited for parts for over four months (seriously, no oven during that entire time). FP's response when I called directly was "Madam, other people have had to wait much longer than that. You have to wait your turn for the part." I'm not kidding. It's the worst customer service I have ever seen. And alas, our oven is not working again. The repairman is coming again on Monday. We'll pay him $75 (again) to look at it.

If the required parts cost more than $200 (which they almost always do), then I think we are throwing it in the trash. At the price we paid for the oven, it should have worked perfectly - at least for a few years. Our dish drawer was last fixed about 3 months ago. We haven't had any issues since then, which is remarkable for that product, a full 3 months with a functioning dishwasher! I really hope others read my review and avoid Fisher Paykel products. I rarely write reviews, but these are the worst purchases that I have ever made. The products perform wonderfully when they work, but unfortunately, they rarely work. By the way, we are not abusers of the appliances. All of our other appliances (made by other companies) have performed without any issues. Oh, and yes, I have called FP directly many times over the years. Our repair companies have also called as they were appalled at the repeated issues with the products. FP did not stand behind their product at all. I'm very disappointed.

Generally, GWL 10 US is a decent washer from 2002. But I have had previous service issue after five years with diverter valve and a separated lid that was replaced. Now at 10 years old, spin cycle will not always engage and a foul smell of burning rubber is present. They will probably have this issue fixed, but I will not purchase Fisher Paykel again.

Dear R. Tucker, Thank you for your post. Although Fisher & Paykel products are manufactured to the most exacting standards and the highest quality parts are used, there is of course an element of fair wear and tear which occurs in all manufactured products. We are sure you will appreciate that any manufactured appliance is a compilation of numerous parts. As time passes, some of these parts may require repair or replacement as a result of usage. This service or maintenance work does not mean that the appliance has reached the end of its life or that it will not continue to function for many more years. Although the re-saleable value may have dropped with the passage of time, the value of the appliance to the user is just as high as it continues to perform the function it was manufactured to carry out.

We regret the position you have taken with regard to your future purchases and we hope that one day the many features and benefits of Fisher & Paykel appliances may attract you back to our products. Sincerely, Fisher & Paykel USA

I bought the washer and dryer 2.5 years ago and 2 weeks ago, the bearing went out on the dryer. No repair people came to my small town and I had to go online to buy the part through a third party. So now the drain pump went out last Friday. Saturday morning, I ordered the part from Fisher and Paykel in California. The pump will not be here until Friday! When I called, I was told that I should have chosen 2 day air if I wanted it fast! Their website for ordering does not give you that option. Also, the third party was over $20.00 cheaper than Fisher and Paykel. I ordered from Fisher and Paykel because that’s where the dryer part was sent from. I should have saved the $20.00 and ordered from the third party since I have spent $45.00 at the laundry mat. I emailed Fisher and Paykel on Monday and no one has responded back to me! I’m not a happy mom right now!

Interestingly, the issue I have with the Fisher Paykel washer and dryer is not with getting the appliances serviced. I am fortunate to have a local repair service company that is responsive, trained on these appliances, and does quality work. From the posts I have read, this does not appear to occur often. My issue is with the reliability and quality of the Fisher Paykel products themselves. The washer is model GWL11W and the repair occurred about 12 months ago. As many others have posted, the water pump went out, dripped onto wiring for the computer panel, which in turn caused the computer panel to fail. I was told that this was because of a design flaw and the repair kit incorporated a design change that would prevent the computer panel from shorting out if the water pump should ever go out again. The parts and labor for the repair cost over $400, but given the cost of replacing a high efficiency washer, I decided to go ahead and get it fixed.

Granted, the washer was 5 years old at the time, but really, a washer should last longer than 5 years. Now the dryer, model DE08US, needs to be repaired. The timer will not advance in the automatic settings. The sensor bars and sensor board needed to be replaced. This repair, with parts and labor, will come to $387. I have already spent $188 on the prior service call to have the problem diagnosed and have the dryer disassembled, cleaned, and two glides replaced. Given the cost of new dryers, I cannot justify spending what would come to $575 to repair this dryer. The dryer is 6 years old but again a dryer should not cost $575 in parts and labor to maintain within the first 6 years of ownership. At the moment, the dryer is still drying and the timer is still advancing in the timed setting, so I will use it until it stops. Of course, the dryer has now started making an annoying squealing sound, so it will likely stop sooner than later.

I should mention that washer and dryer get light usage, 2-4 loads a week, and the loads of laundry are not large or bulky. Even the repair technician commented that both the washer and dryer are well maintained. Yet my Fisher Paykel washer has already cost me hundreds of dollars in parts and repair. If I was willing to invest in repairing the dryer, the same could be said about that appliance. However, that is not going to happen. It was a mistake to spend my hard-earned money on Fisher Paykel appliances and I do not intend to throw good money after bad. When it is time to purchase a new dryer or washer (or any other appliance for that matter), the brand will not be Fisher Paykel. The quality and reliability are disappointing and I won't get fooled again.

I purchased a Fisher Paykel Washer and Dryer from Sears roughly 4 years ago. Dryer stopped heating. I found a repair person, had to order parts. It is now 1.5 weeks later and the parts are finally in. It will be another day or so before the repairman can come over, $330 for repair and two weeks of hanging clothes or going to laundromat for drying. I would have to seriously reconsider purchasing this brand again with this type of wait for parts.

The other day, my husband was doing laundry and part-way through the load, the washer started beeping and stopped working. He then called the customer support center and got the name of the Fisher Paykel dealer here in town to see how much it would cost to get it serviced. While he was on the phone with the customer support rep, he was told that based on the lights that were showing up it was an error code 346, but was not told what that meant. This morning we called to see what it would cost to have someone come out just to look at the washer and were told he would cost $75! I think that is a large fee, considering we live in the same town less than a mile away.

Today, I was looking online and read that the warranty was usually around 2 years. I'm sure our washer wasn't 2 years old, so I called the customer support number myself, after taking down the model number, to find out if the washer was still under warranty. The guy on the phone was not able to tell me if the washer was under warranty or not. He didn't even offer to take down the serial number to see when the washer was made, but told me to call the store we purchased it from to see if they still have a record of when the purchase was made. We purchased this washer from Sears and shortly after we bought it, they stopped selling this brand.

What should we do if they do not have a copy of the receipt? I don't even think our bank records go back any further than a year online. I have searched to see if I could find the transaction, but have not been able to. I would hate to buy a new washer after only owning this one for less than 2 years, and really don't want to pay $75 just to have someone look at it and then pay for repairs on top of it.

I am now on my second Fisher Paykel Ecosmart Washer. The first was purchased from Lowe's and when it broke down a few years back, there was no company that would repair it. I even called overseas where they basically just laughed at me. When I first purchased it, I thought it was the best washing machine I had ever heard of so when I saw it for sale at Sears and they assured me they service what they sell, I had to purchase it again. Well, for the last 6 months, it would never complete the wash cycle and on the last dot would just keep going into the spin cycle over and over so I would end the wash cycle after one hour and the clothes would be clean. It was not what I bargained for but it got the clothes clean. My husband did three loads in one day and on the third load, it did not drain. I could not get it to finish either.

Two days later, I turned on the washer and it completed the cycle and drained the water. I am afraid to do another load. I spent all day yesterday online with Sears who told me they do not work on Fisher Paykel appliances even though they sold it to me. After two hours on the phone with them, they finally said they could send someone to the house but I could not pay for it with a gift card even though their website said I could. They also said initially on the phone they could not work on it, but later changed their tune. They would not set up an appointment however. What is the deal? This is now the second time I have had this problem with two of the same machines! Don't I feel like the fool! What can I do at a reasonable price?

Very disappointed in the top load dryer. My in-laws moved in with their dryer. This dryer has had service repairs two times in the first year they owned it. Now we are using it as well and the one-year warranty is up. They told us that the last time a service man came out, he showed them where the reset switch is. Apparently, every so often, the heat stops working, and the reset switch has to be reset. So it has been two months now, and I have had to reset the switch three times. This is just a ridiculously faulty product, and I'm truly concerned; there is a fire hazard with some sort of electrical issue with this dryer. I am getting rid of it ASAP and going back to Maytag, which I might add, I had a Maytag washer for 10 years and a Maytag dryer for 15 years and never once had a repair to them. Now that is true quality.

DEC27C and wL26CW1 - I have had a couple of problems with my units. However, two occasions they were covered by warranty (the washer). I just had a problem with my dryer. The bearing on the right side of the drum went bad. I called F&P and talked to the very nice rep who took my order for a new bearing assembly and sent it out to me UPS ground. The rep was kind enough to tell me that if I were handy, yes I could fix it myself and she was right. After the part arrived, it took about 15 to 20 minutes to repair. Wee, the dryer is back in service. My problem is the $250.00 of ruined clothing and the price of the part and shipping. I did contact a F&P authorized repair service, but the service is not what I would call great.

When I called the tech and told him I thought it was the belt, he said "It is not the belt; it is the bearing. You do what you know how to do and I will fix the dryers." That was a little insulting to say the least. He then told me the squeaking would not harm anything and I could continue to use the dryer, but it may spit out grease (hence the damaged clothes). Well, my wife used the dryer and ran a load of dressy whites and they came out with little spots all over them. So F&P's authorized repair person gave me bad information. Live and learn. But as a whole, F&P on my dealings with them have been good. It is a shame that the face of F&P is who is giving them a bad name - the repair techs and their offices.

Phenomenal service from F&P - We purchased a F&P Ecosmart washing machine from Lowe’s in August 2008 at the salesperson's behest. We didn't purchase the store warranty as our previous Amana washing machine lasted for 13 years. A few months before the 2-year manufacturer's warranty expired, the washing machine stopped working. We contacted F&P and they quickly had it fixed at their expense with a pump replacement. Well, it happened again this week, only now it's four years from date of purchase and we have no warranty. So last night, I was surfing the web about problems with these machines and came across this site. I thought we'd just be stuck with a lemon since there are so many complaints, so we had resolved to just get rid of the machine and buy another brand instead of having anyone try to fix it.

But in reviewing this site, I saw someone from F&P posting to every complaint, apologizing to the customer and giving a phone number to call. So I called the number last night and left a voicemail, not really expecting to hear from anyone. Well, someone from F&P (Lisette) called me back first thing this morning! And less than four hours after speaking with her, I am sitting here at home listening to the sound of my working washing machine again! She sent someone out at F&P's expense. He replaced the defective pump with a newly designed pump that he assured me should last a very, very long time. He said we shouldn't have any more problems with it at all. So I am quite amazed at F&P's quick and caring response! So even though we would do a lot more research before buying another F&P machine, I can personally testify that at least they stand behind the problems their machines have! I'd like to think that an American company would've done the same, but something tells me otherwise. Thank you very much Lisette!

It has worked great for 3 years and btw just last week, I recommended it to a friend because I loved it so much! Anyway, a few days ago I noticed a leak had developed so I had the repairman come out. He said it needed a new part called an Electronic Pump Assembly or a Kit Repair and Fuse at the price of $343.45 with labor at $220 and tax at $29.96 totaling $592.41 (oh, and service fee of $49.95 just to tell me this). What?! I said, "That is almost the price of a new washer?" He said, "Yes, I see this pump go out a lot on these washers but the new part has been improved and should last about 10 years." But darn it, I shouldn't have to pay the cost of a new machine just to get that defective part replaced. I am so disappointed and frustrated because I actually like this unit. Here we are 2 years later, and we had to replace the heating element and fuses again. So this time, it is over $350 out of our pocket since we are out of warranty. Every time I would call the one and only service company in town to come out, it would work only slightly better and soon stop working again. It never seemed to work at 100% capacity. It constantly turns off during a dry cycle and takes forever (when it decides to actually run) to dry a load of clothes. We're not talking a large load either. We are vigilant about keeping the vents cleaned out, even going so far as taking the tube from the wall and cleaning it out from both the outside vent and the inside vent. Nothing does any good. It still shuts off randomly at will. I can guarantee that my next dryer purchase, as soon as it can happen, won't be a Fisher & Paykel. When I called, I was treated rudely and they refused to help me and stated I'd have to pay a large fee just to have it diagnosed. I have 3 F&P products, the dishwasher, 10 years (DD603-SS), laundry washer & dryer, 5 years (IWL16 & DEIX2). First, let me say the products work well - when they work, but it is always something. I have replaced on the dishwasher, 1 pump motor under the warranty. Out of warranty, I have replaced the bottom lid motors, and arms, 1 pump motor, 1 LCD display, 3 x for the arm that holds the water and connection lines to the drawer, and 2 spray arms. Currently, the upper drawer needs the lid motors replaced 1 spray arm needs to be replaced (it is glued and working for now), and the back light for the LCD does not work. That is 9 repairs, and 3 pending repairs. Something goes wrong on the average more than once per year.

Now for the laundry washer and dryer. The agitator is broken! The arms that move the clothing are breaking off, and Fisher Paykel says this is an item expected to fail. However, they don't say that in the product description. On the dryer, in the same week, a plastic vent cover in the dryer is breaking, small pieces are falling off. It has become brittle, most likely from the heat of the dryer. As pieces break, it leaves rough edges that snag the clothing. This is poor design, poor quality, and no help from customer service. The attitude is that these repairs are expected. I don't remember major appliances failing as often as they do now. Something is wrong, and really wrong when Fisher & Paykel has the attitude that these many repairs are normal. Shame on you, Fisher & Paykel, for poor customer service. Shame on me for buying their product.

Dish Drawers - I bought this unit in 2005. I used all the warranty time because this unit was never properly researched before it was shipped out to the public. The repair people knew less about the unit than I. There is some flaw in this unit's motor that allows it to rise up and chew on itself. I have bought two motors; the last one in 2011 and now it is 2012, one year later and this unit is at it again. This was supposed to be the "top of the line" at the time and now it is in the "bottom of my barrel" as far as appliances and appliance makers. The F2 warning is always on.

The North American Customer Service Manager was extremely helpful. She made sure that the part in question was in stock and offered to provide it free to an authorized service provider to ensure proper diagnosis and repair. She also helped in finding the service provider in our area. The issue is completely resolved to our satisfaction. However, I believe that Fisher-Paykel website needs to be improved to provide easily surf the site for information on all models, not just the current models. This will help avoid customers getting wrong advice from other vendors.

    Original Review: Sept. 11, 2012

I feel angry and cheated. I bought a Fisher & Paykel Aquasmart Washing Machine, Model # WL26CW1, from Loeb's for $899 in August 2007, along with a 4-year extended protection plan for $99.97. Loeb's was pushing this model as the very best! Given that there are so many complaints against FP products on the internet, we were lucky that it was working fairly well until now. However, 2 days ago, when we switched the power on, the display on the unit's display panel was blank (white), and scrolling would beep but no setting display appeared on the screen. We unplugged the machine and plugged again, but no luck on changing settings, etc.

Since the clothes were in the washer, we started the load anyway. It ran, but the clothes were sort of wet, possibly because it was on delicate setting. We did one more load without scrolling hoping that it starts with a "regular" setting. It worked okay this time. So the machine control board seems to be working okay. The only problem is to be a busted display unit. Lowe's parts department doesn't carry FP parts. So, I found the detailed parts diagrams on Searspartsdirect.com. The display unit module, part # 42105P, needed to be replaced has now been substituted by 421613P, since the original display unit was obsolete according to Sears! Then it turned out that this substituted part is also obsolete. According to two different sites, the only option now is to also replace machine control board along with the module.

I am not sure that with the new module, one may also require to replace the display overlay console which may be an extra $50. So, one has to shell out $500 for three parts, on a machine with hundreds of parts, costing $900. Labor may be at least $150. It is really amazing that the LCD became obsolete twice in a period of 5 years, and one has to purchase two more parts to replace one bad part. If you sell a machine, isn't it incumbent on you to supply parts at reasonable price for a reasonable period! My last washer, Maytag, worked for 25 years with no service call! This built-in quick obsolescence seems to be part of Fisher & Paykel’s rip off. No wonder FP is having problems raising funds or finding a buyer!

We have had service people here three times and now they have given up. They say it is a normal behavior, which it definitely is not. We have had this machine for 5 years before buying this new one and we were so happy with the first one. What can be wrong? Can this really be a normal behavior? The technician says he has never seen or heard anything like this. We just want to have a working machine with no noise. We hope for help!

You should not have to have service on such a new product as often as you do on this. I am in good mind to just junk it and go buy a cheap regular washer that I can depend on. My F&P washing machine kept getting stuck and not draining. I had a repair come out and $380 fixed it. Six months later, same thing with machine not draining. I took to the internet and found out that the drain pump was likely plugged. I was able to fix it myself, which wasn't easy, turning machine on its side, pulling out the coin that was clogging the pump, etc. This happened four more times, me fixing it each time. Then the last time, there was nothing clogging it. Repairman said $400 to fix. I said, "Forget you," and tossed the machine. Now I have an LG which I love. My F&P dryer is now squeaking and making a horrible noise. It's less than five years old. I refuse to put any more money into these pieces of junk, so unless me replacing the bearing myself works, it will also be joining the washer in appliance heaven (oops, maybe hell). FYI, customer service is also horrible and offers you no help once your warranty is up. Big surprise there.

The power of the internet - I would have never guessed that the internet could change the result of a bad experience to a good one, as this was my first experience in writing a complaint online. On July 19, 2012, I wrote a complaint regarding a Fisher & Paykel washing machine I purchased just two years ago and how I had ongoing problems with the machine, starting at about the fifth month. I called the service company twice while under warranty and they were unable to figure out what was wrong with the machine. I have since learned that it was because the company that Sears uses was inexperienced with this product.

I also called the Fisher & Paykel main office and unfortunately was turned away as my machine was no longer under warranty. I even tried to explain my experiences and how the service men were unable to repair it. So after two years of frustration with a non-functioning washing machine, we decided to purchase a 30-year old Speed Queen washing machine and take the newer Fisher & Paykel machine to the landfill. Before taking it to the landfill, I wrote my complaint on this website. That was July 19th.

On August 3rd, much to my surprise, I received a generic response from Fisher & Paykel asking me to contact their Customer Service Manager. I called the phone number the next day, left a message and the manager called me back. Although she did not personally read my online complaint, she was genuinely concerned that I had a bad experience and wanted to make it right. She offered at their cost to have a local, experienced repair company come to my house to fix the machine. Within 5 minutes, the local repair company called me to set up an appointment. They came out, fixed the machine in 5 minutes with a $15 part. What?! That's all it took, 5 minutes and a $15 part?

How could the other repairmen not get this one right? The total repair, if I had to pay for this service call, would have cost approximately $165. The only reason we didn't take this route to begin with is because we already tried two repairmen and two years of frustration. So, we gave up and were cutting our losses. But now, I have a washing machine that is working flawlessly. It's amazing! Although I didn't get the service I expected from the company in the beginning, it goes to show that a bad experience could change into a good one when someone with authority wants to make it right. Thank you, Fisher & Paykel for coming through on this one. I hope to have this machine for many years to come.

On August 10, 2012, I posted a review about my dissatisfaction with my dryer. At the time, I was awaiting my fifth service call to have the bearings replaced. By the way, my dryer is 5 1/2 years old. To give Fisher Paykel their due, the company agreed to pay more than half the cost of the repair since I had already spent over $200.00 on prior service calls and repairs. After waiting for the parts to arrive and arranging a time for the technician to return to do the work, my dryer was finally fixed last week. This past Sunday, I decided to do a few loads of laundry and lo and behold, my washer broke (also 5 1/2 years old). It's no fun trying to wring out sopping wet clothes and then finding a place to hang them.

The technician left a few hours ago and my washer needs a new pump. I wonder how much that's going to cost. I spent too much money on poor quality products. Perhaps it's time to go back to the old-fashioned scrub board and clothesline. When I spoke with Fisher and Paykel's customer service representative about my dryer, she was very nice and sympathetic. But being told that bearings wear out like they do in a car was not a good analogy. My dryer certainly does not take the stress and use like my car does.

If I had the energy, I would call the company again to verbally air my dissatisfaction with my washer, but another analogy like that would probably send me over the edge and the automated responses to the reviews are inane. Why doesn't the company contact me? They have my contact information. Fisher and Paykel strikes again!

Everything was fine until yesterday; the thumping noise is back, but even louder. I’m very fed up with this dryer. Like other reviewers, I have also had problems with drying time – any "energy-efficient" feature, this thing purportedly has, is out the window because it takes so long to dry anything. We have turned a deaf ear on the fact that it is noisy due to the fact that we liked the convenience of it so much. Well, things have started to go wrong with the unit which include losing the backlighting on one of the displays, total breakdown of the plastic trim plates and failure of the drawers to drain. At times, the bottom drawer has in excess of one inch of water after completion of the cycle. The other day, I called the customer service number and spoke to a lovely young lady who attempted to address my concerns, took down all of my identifying information and advised me that she would attempt to obtain some sort of assistance for me toward the purchase of a new dishwasher. My wife and I agreed that based on the age of the unit, it is probably not worth the expense of having a repair person visit, diagnose the problem and obtain all the parts that would be needed to get it running and make it look good again.

To my dismay, I called back today, provided all of my identifying information and learned that my call was not on file and therefore, nothing had been done on my issue. What a shame because even though these units do not get great reviews in the United States, my wife and I were willing to take another chance on a new one instead of buying a conventional one. We had had a pretty good experience with our unit and are just hoping we can get some assistance, as these dishwashers are very expensive. I empty the lint bucket regularly and my husband blows out the tubing to the outside vent frequently. We even replaced the screen vent with a louvered vent hoping that would solve the problem; but to no avail, thus another service call. Now, the bearings on the machine need to be replaced. It's a horrible machine! Do not waste your money, please. My machine (model number WA37T26GW2) is only two years old, and it was purchased from Sears on 6/1/10 for $538.00. I have had nothing but problems with it. When it works, yes, I said, when it works... it is a great washer. The problem is it usually will not work. It constantly gets off balance, beeps, and beeps some more. We try to correct it, and that never works. It drains the water (with the soap), refills, and tries again. It does not matter how little or how many clothes you have in it, what cycle you put it on, or how you distribute the clothes. Trust me. We've tried it all.

It will literally drive you insane. The longest it has taken us to do one load of laundry of lightweight clothes (polyester and some cotton, business attire) is 7 hours. Yes, 7 long, frustrating, hair-pulling hours. Oh, and don't unplug it to get it to work. All that will do is make it impossible for the repair man to diagnose the problem. I still cannot figure out what the issue is. We are so fed up with this machine that we will be hauling it to the dump as well. Sayonara to $538.00. Since I couldn't afford another new machine, I had to go to our Habitat for Humanity store and buy a 30-year-old Speed Queen. I hope to hook it up next week and have a glass of wine to celebrate a washing machine that will wash. I had an older Kenmore machine from the early 80s up until we bought this Fisher & Paykel.

It ran for 30 years, and I had to call the repair man out on year 25 and year 29. Each time, it was something minor. It cost me $25.00 the first time (including the part) and $50.00 the second time. What a great machine that was. And it had nothing electronic. Stay away from electronic boards. They will drive you nuts. The old push and pull knobs are the way to go. Side note: I am only 40 years old, so it's not that I am against newer technology. I just want it to work. I don't think that is too high of an expectation, especially since I've had the machine for only two years and have had problems as early as 4 months after purchasing it.

Come on, Fisher & Paykel, improve your machine! I feel like I've been ripped off with nothing to show for it. Oh, and calling the customer service line is a total joke. I am a very polite and understanding person. I am a human resources professional, and the service I received from Fisher & Paykel was disappointing. The lady could care less that I was experiencing problems. Of course, the warranty had expired, so "Sorry, there's nothing we can do for you." Really? Shoot, I would have suggested something to help me, even send me a repair man at a reduced rate or something. And of course, when I asked about my 10-year warranty that I signed up for on the drive train, she told me they don't have warranties on the drive train and they do not have me in their system.

I was certainly upset, but not at all surprised at this point. This is my first complaint regarding any product. I am just so furious about this experience. I had to share in hopes of saving someone else from making the same mistake.

When our dishwasher drawers stopped working, we contacted the local authorized rep who explained that if we didn't use the dishwasher every day, it will not work. What? He said that your dishwashers must be used every day or they break down, all by themselves. So, I will be taking your crummy dishwasher to the dump, where it belongs!

Against the advice of almost everyone consulted, we purchased a Fisher Paykel double drawer dishwasher for our newly-built home. Similar to other posts I've read, the machine never worked well. If I wanted clean dishes, I had to wash the dishes by hand first and use the machine to sanitize them. The machine would get stuck in the middle of a cycle multiple times, water would collect in the bottom of the drawers and finally, the machine went AWOL in the middle of the night with motors and fans running, and buzzers beeping until I could scramble out of bed to turn the circuit breaker off.

What I am most angry about, however, is the service I received from the company's "customer care" department. One rep, whose name I will not publicly mention, told me that because the machines were originally made in Australia, they didn't take into account that the water might be different in the states. Since it is, this was causing a problem with the machines' operation. She also said that since phosphates were banned in the US, the machines were getting "gunked up" and the dishes weren't being cleaned. But on the latest machines, they've developed products to sidestep that problem. No consolation for those of us with older machines.

She offered to send a technician out at their cost, which she later reneged on. And like other posts, they don't even have an up to date list of factory-authorized reps in my area. She kept telling me my technician wasn't authorized until she finally called with me on the line and found out that indeed he was. After promptly submitting all the requested paperwork to her, I had to call back several times before finally tracking her down to proceed with my issue. The last time I spoke with her, she reneged on all her previous offers and told me if I didn't accept her current offer (which was completely unacceptable), she would close the file and make a note in it that I was never to be helped again. So much for "customer care". Buyer beware, heed all the warnings about Fisher Paykel.

We owned a KitchenAid dishwasher for 30 years without a hitch. When we updated the kitchen, the salesman from Grand Appliance recommended the Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer. What a mistake. It has never worked right. We have had so many service calls that I can't count them. I will replace it eventually with another KitchenAid. Perhaps you should take this one and analyze it like they do in med school with corpses - and perhaps you can figure out where you went wrong. By the way, not only is the electrical stuff faulty, but it simply does not clean the dishes. If I wash them first, it might sort of rinse them. Plus, to run it for 132 minutes for the small amount of dishes it holds is not exactly eco-friendly.

The water wouldn't stop dripping into the tub so we had to call someone out to fix this issue. Now the washer has quit all together. I called someone out ($68.00) only to find out that the main board is out. I realized that the washer is 7 years old, but I thought it would last longer than it did. We did research in Consumer Report before we bought this washer.

Five and a half years ago, I purchased a Fisher Paykel Aerotech oven from Lowe's. This evening, I cooked a pizza on the Aero Pastry setting per the oven manual. I turned it off and my family sat down to eat. We finished eating and were getting ready to go to the pool when my husband decided it was too late and we would stay home instead. Lucky for us because when he looked at the oven, he noticed flames on the inside of the inner cover shooting out. He ran downstairs and turned off the breaker and I threw baking soda on them. After the oven cooled, he took off the back plate and the heating element was cracked and melted. If we had left and not looked inside the oven, we would have come home to find our dog dead and everything we owned gone. No, I'm not happy at all.

This is a follow-up to my first post (Fisher & Paykel Ecosmart washer). The firemen were wrong about the motor. I called a local repair person/authorized repair person and they were here today. It was the famous pump that everyone else has been talking about. They said grit gets into the pump and causes the seal to leak, and then water drips onto the pump/electronics and causes it to burn out. There is a fuse that blows in the control board. They replaced the fuse and put another fuse in line with the pump. The repair was quick. I was told the pump would be about $90.00 plus service call. It’s much better than we originally thought. In my opinion, there is a problem with these pumps, though.

Upon further investigation, the smoke was coming from the washing machine. She got the machine unplugged and the room was filled with smoke. She contacted the local fire dept. They used a thermal imaging camera and told her it looked like the motor overheated as it was very hot. I called the customer care number the next morning when I arrived home and was told this would be covered under the warranty on the motor. I called back later and talked with a different person and they said that it would not be covered. We had been happy with the machine up until this point. After reading the reports on this site, I am definitely leaning towards a different brand. A washing machine should last longer than 4 to 5 years.

I recently purchased a Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer via the internet. It was delivered via a special trucking company. I paid an additional sum of money for it to be delivered by a special trucking company, unpacked from the box, brought into my kitchen and inspected (as opposed to the unit being drop shipped to my front yard). It arrived in perfect condition. I hired a licensed plumber to install it. While installing the unit, the plumber reported the kick-plate was missing. Then I noticed there were small cracks/marks in the cutlery bins - an obvious product defect. After running the top drawer of the DishDrawer, water started profusely leaking from the bottom of DishDrawer’s top drawer. I had the plumber return to check all the connections, which he confirmed were connected tightly and properly. The leak was coming from the DishDrawer, not from the connections. I called Fisher & Paykel’s customer care and was told that since I purchased my DishDrawer via the internet, they would not honor my warranty!

They said the trucking company was responsible for the missing parts and damage (leaking issue). After holding on the phone for 3 hours, I was transferred to the USA supervisor Paul who said if/when an authorized service technician inspects the leaking issue and determines that it is unrelated to delivery, Fisher & Paykel would honor my warranty. Then Paul insisted that I send him a photo of the cracked cutlery bins before even considering replacing them. I emailed him a photo of the damage two days ago and there’s still no response. He said the kick-plate was already being sent to me (but nothing was received yet). I then had a local authorized service technician come to look at the dish and he determined that the leaking was totally unrelated to the delivery of the unit, but it was instead a product defect and that it should be covered under the 100% manufacturer’s warranty. He advised Fisher & Paykel of this. That was two days ago.

Today, Fisher & Paykel told the service technician that they are still having issues with honoring my warranty due to the purchase being via the internet. Fisher & Paykel has confirmed that the unit is a genuine Fisher & Paykel unit and the serial number was accepted upon registration, but Fisher & Paykel claims that any internet purchases are questionable and Fisher & Paykel to this date has refused to honor my warranty. I tried to call the USA supervisor Paul this morning and was told he was on the telephone and would return my call in 5 to 10 minutes. That was three hours ago and there’s still no phone call! I am frustrated and very angry. How could Fisher & Paykel refuse to honor the warranty on their unit after confirming the problem is a product defect? They call their customer service line "customer care" - what care are they speaking of? There is no care whatsoever! They are the absolute worst when it comes to customer service. If Fisher & Paykel refuses to honor my warranty, I plan on reporting them to every possible consumer complaint agency and will seek additional remedies to the full extent of the law.

This is a turn-around story led by Customer Service Hero named Lisette ** at the Fisher Paykel Office in the USA. After hearing about the experience we went through with Rob who refused to let me speak with his superior and then in spite of my insistence to be escalated went on to tell us that his supervisor/manager doesn't answer return calls. Lisette took all of the details of the situation and undertook to get back to me within 30 minutes with a plan of action.

When she called back 20 minutes later, she informed me that she had reached out to the Canadian Service Manager, sent him and e-mail and copied me on it as well. She provided his name and contact information including his cell phone number. Within a few hours, I had received a call from Freddy who informed me that he was arranging for a local service person to perform a service call and that I should hear from him within a day.

In the meantime, Freddy and Lisette arranged for spare parts to be flown to the local service company, so that the problem could be resolved on the first visit. To make a long story short, the problem was resolved by very professional local service people from Murphy's Appliance Repair in Dartmouth, NS. They received technical guidance and support from Freddy over the phone during their visit - and our problem was resolved beyond our expectations.

The leadership clearly came from Lisette and she deserves the recognition and a Customer Service Hero Award for doing so. Kudos to her superiors for supporting her initiative! In the face of a horrific situation, she mobilized her local, national, international team and their partners to rescue a loyal Fisher Paykel Customer, stranded without local service on very high end appliances. For all of this, we are very grateful and share our thanks with Lisette, Freddy, Trevor (and Trevor's nephew) and whomever else was part of this chain of support.

    Original Review: May 16, 2012

We purchased over 5,000 in Fisher Paykel Appliances less than three years ago. The DD605 dishwasher started to stall at 58 minutes in the cleaning cycle and stayed on that point with the water continuously running until an F4 error occurred. We learned from other consumers and repair sites that this was due to a faulty heater plate part # 522091 - a problem that had been recognized as a manufacturing default for that year's model. Sears and The Bay stopped selling Fisher Paykel due to the high number of repairs and difficulty getting parts.

When I called F&P to get service, Rob from California called back and gave me the name of two companies he said were authorized to provide service. In fact, when I called them both, each explained that they had never serviced this equipment before and had no access to parts. When I called F&P back, Rob acknowledged that they didn't actually have a service network in our area (not sure if we are talking Canada or just Halifax, NS). I suggested that since I had to pay for someone to learn how to service their defective parts, the least that they might do was to ship the $61.42 part N/C to me.

Rob refused and told me he couldn't help. I asked to have the call escalated and he told me his supervisor doesn't return calls. I asked to make sure the call was recorded. Fisher Paykel profiles their products on their website and literature as being first class but does not appear to back their products in terms of service or support. It would have been so simple to just send me the part and then let us take the cost of the repair instead of forcing us to let everyone in the world know about the poor experiences we had with Fisher Paykel.

We purchased two Fisher & Paykel drawer-style dishwashers. They have both failed after just three years of use. When calling a recommended service place here in San Francisco, the answer I got was "Never buy Fisher & Paykel products. They are of very poor quality" from the company recommended by Fisher & Paykel! Unbelievable! The cost to fix our dishwasher would be over $1000!

Now to the reason: F&P dishwashers are made completely out of plastic. If a sliver of glass gets in to the pump wheel, the wheel is ground down to where it no longer works properly. As all plastic parts are interconnected, in a way that even a layman engineer understands is completely idiotic, you are left with the only option of changing massive parts of the machine! Naturally, F&P are aware of this. This is the same practice that car manufacturers use frequently. If things break, they make money from parts.

Further advice from the repairman: "Buy a dishwasher from a European manufacturer, one with a stainless interior, not too fancy and not too cheap, around $700 MRSP. Do not buy a dishwasher with drawers as they are normally made by F&P, Kitchen Aid, DCS and many others are all made by the same company with idiotic engineering and cheap parts," that's what he said and I fully believe him. To make it such a hassle for customers, just to save a buck on a pump part is what will, hopefully, bring this company to change their engineering or go bust. Stay away. Do yourself a favor and buy a Bosch, or actually, buy pretty much any other brand!

My wife and I purchased an Eco Smart clothes washer and a SmartLoad dryer about 3 1/2 years ago. It took the washer about 4 months to break. The repair guy said that some coins had lodged in the mechanism. Since this was such a rare occurrence (after all, one never finds coins in the laundry, right? Especially with kids in the house), I wrote it off to dumb bad luck. A few months later, it had gone down again. They replaced the logic board, I think he said. After the warranty expired, it broke two more times and I was able to repair it. Funny, there are a lot of videos and tutorials on how to fix these on YouTube.

The last time it broke, I gave up and purchased a new washer from a different manufacturer. The drier stopped working well after about 8 months. It took forever to get a load dry, I thought. I cleaned out the lint trap with every load, mind you. I cleaned out the lint in the exhaust line once a month for a while, thinking that was the problem but it didn't help. Now it takes four hours to dry a load if it hasn't rained lately. It never gets much more than warm. We found out on another forum that there is a service access secondary lint trap or some such thing on it. Lucky it's summer and we can line dry. All in all, this washer and dryer set were a dream, for an appliance repairman.

We called F&P on 4/20 (the day it went out) and we were referred to a local authorized service provider. We called the the company they recommended and were not able to schedule service until 4/24. The technician came out and found that the circuit board was bad. How can a refrigerator that is only two weeks old have a bad circuit board? The technician ordered a new circuit board on 4/25. It took a week for the part to arrive and he came to install the new circuit board on 5/4.

Within a few hours of the technician leaving, we noticed an F11 error, which has something to do with a fan. We noticed, at that time, that the refrigerator was not cooling, although the freezer seemed to be working. We called the technician back and were not able to schedule another visit until 5/9. By the time the technician comes on 5/9, we will be 19 days with no refrigerator. It is simply not acceptable for a new appliance to work for only two weeks. We paid $2,000 for this refrigerator and it has been broken for longer than it actually worked. I called customer service on 5/4 and explained everything that has occurred. I was offered a 3-month extension of the warranty. How does that fix the problem? Why would I want to extend a warranty on something that doesn't even work? I was put on hold to speak with a supervisor and coincidentally none were available.

At that point, the representative told me that she looked over my file again and could offer to extend my warranty an extra six months. This is simply not a solution. How does extending the warranty make up for not having a working refrigerator for longer than having a working one, throwing away all of the food we had in the refrigerator, and having to eat every meal out for three weeks? I told the representative that this was not acceptable and I still wanted to speak with a supervisor. So, now my file has been "expedited", and she said I should get a call from a supervisor on Monday (5/7). I hope I do. This refrigerator is clearly a lemon and should be considered DOA (dead on arrival). We should be sent a new refrigerator and receive a credit for our loss of use for three weeks.

I unplugged it, hoping it would reset. It would then start the wash cycle again, and it would chug a little then just hum, then stop and make an alarm - beeeeeep, beeep (like a fire alarm). So I emptied out the yucky water, and took out the clothes hoping maybe something was catching in it and it would start again. Chugged a little faster, but still stopped and wouldn't spin or drain. Emptied water again.

Ok, I'm tempted to take it apart but realized maybe it would void the warranty, so decided to google it and it directed me to this site. Boy was I in for a surprise. Based on the comments and reviews, I immediately thought of getting a new machine that was not Fisher Paykel. These units were bought for us in a new home in 2008 from the contractor, so I wasn't sure if my warranty was still good or not. To my surprise, I called the toll free number on this site, and immediately got a representative that deals directly with problems. No wait time. Lisa was very informative, patient, and understanding of the issue. We went through the flow sheet together to try and diagnose the issue. Still no resolution. She offered to send out a Fisher tech at a rate of $85.00 for the consultation and whatever time it would take them to fix it. She guessed maybe only 30 minutes.

Lisa offered to supply the parts free of charge, although I might have been out of warranty. Parts could have ranged up to $350. I weighed out the cost versus buying a new unit, and I realize I still would be coming out ahead with the tech. Plus he would be there the next day. Tech showed up early at 9:30am and diagnosed that mattress pad material that we laundered and got stuck in the motor mechanism. Replace motor mechanism as a precaution but would have worked otherwise. Funny thing, I almost suspected that because after I removed the dirty stinky water, it smelled liked something was burnt due to being stuck. But once again, I'm just a doctor and no handyman at all, but I still try to do things myself when I can. I always research first, then do.

My experience with the company is 4.5 out of 5 stars. Lisa gets 5 stars, the 0.5 stars less was because the tech was there for only 10 minutes top and charged us $65 still? So I wasn't sure about that, but I wasn't home, and my wife didn't know what to expect. I would have challenged his rate, to see if he prorates it or not, but maybe they bill by the hour regardless. I wished he changed my control panel and water pump as a precaution because this seemed to be a known problem, but I wasn't there to ask him. Why? Because if that fails soon, then I will have to pay the service call again along with his time. I hope this doesn't happen, because I might not be so understanding after that. So my bill's $150.00. I'm very satisfied with how this went down. My machine works, but I'm still cautiously optimistic about the longevity of this product. However, I do feel Fisher and Lisa will take care of me if future problems arise. Thanks Lisa, and good luck everyone!

The technician came once and added gas. After a day, it again stopped cooling. The technician came again, realized that there was a leak, and soldered some wires. When it started working, it was noisy.

We called again, and they said they would replace the fridge the following week. They sent a truck to pick up the faulty one, and when we called the store to ask when the new one would be delivered, we learned that FP had changed their mind and did not want us as customers. After 8 months, my 24'' range stopped working. Two weeks after my initial service call, the service people said they had the parts and scheduled a repair for Tuesday, April 17. I took the morning off, but they did not arrive in time to do the job. So I had to reschedule my service call for today. They said they would be here by 1pm. Then they called back to say they had made a mistake and that in fact, they did not have the part, because it was on back order. So my lost morning off work on Tuesday was for nothing. I am still without the use of my oven.

I would like a replacement oven. I paid top dollar for a "fancy" oven, and not only did it break so soon, it cannot even be repaired in a timely manner. I called Fisher Paykel and stayed on hold for 5 minutes before speaking to someone. I told them what had happened, and they just said to wait for the part to come in and reschedule my appointment and that there was nothing they could do, unless my stove could not be repaired. Meanwhile, 2 lost days at work and no oven for over 2 weeks! I was told I could call back in a few hours and talk to the management team, which I plan to do.

Fisher Paykel Intuitive Dryer - We purchased a new Fisher Paykel washer and dryer three years ago which was installed in our new home on an interior wall with a straight shot through the roof exhaust pipe. After only four months of using the new dryer, the exhaust pipe became stopped-up with a considerable amount of lint. The exhaust cap on the roof had to be removed to allow access for removal of the lint from the exhaust pipe. This process had to be repeated about every 4 to 5 months since.

Since the dryer lint basket very seldom collected lint and had to be emptied, four weeks ago we had the service technician out who determined the lint screen had been torn in numerous areas. Since the lint screen is within an enclosed area, he advised there must be some defect in the dryer lint basket which was cutting the screen. Over a period of time if left unchecked, this could have become a fire hazard. Is there something that can be done to prevent this from happening again? If so, please advise.

    Original Review: April 3, 2012

My Fisher Paykel DGGX1 dryer has been a great dryer until it would run but no heat would come out. I had to call a service technician, which cost $100 just to come out because the closest one to my house was about an hour away! Then when he got out here, he diagnosed the problem as the heating element. So I had to pay an additional $500 for the materials needed and his time. Since the dryer was costly to begin with, I figured it would be worth a one-time additional expense. However, now less than a year after this cost, the dryer is not working again. After researching how to find out the diagnosis code, the dryer is saying the lid won't lock.

I have noticed there have been quite a few complaints regarding the material used to make these lids. I have been extremely careful with both my washer and dryer; however, the dryer lid had cracked a long time ago, but the dryer still worked. So that seemed to be a trivial concern. However, now, looking at how the lid works, it seems that the small piece underneath has not broken off and when the dryer lid is closed, the machine cannot attach to the lid. I am extremely frustrated and am considering throwing in the towel and purchasing a new dryer. There is no local appliance company or handyman that is willing to help me. I have called many! I have taken great care of my dryer and I am disappointed in this newest problem!

This time I contacted Jeffers-McGill in Columbia, where I bought the dishwasher. They were very unconcerned and gave me the name of a repair company. I have had 2 technicians come, neither seemed to know how to fix it, and after paying $132, I still don't have a dishwasher that is running correctly.

One of the technicians indicated it had been installed wrong. I have now spent over $200 for a $1,000 machine, and still don't have a dishwasher I can depend on. In fact, the 1st dishwasher I bought from Jeffers-McGill started giving me problems after only 2 years, at which time I bought the Fisher-Paykel. I just purchased a new Fisher & Paykel washer and dryer. This is my second pair. My previous set I placed in a rental and decided to get a new set for myself. I had few problems with my older units. I understand my older dryer was actually made by an American company with a Fisher & Paykel nameplate. The new Fisher & Paykel set is a big step backwards for this manufacturer.

The new washing machine is noisy and "clanks" when washing. I don’t know the cause but am assuming it is due to the tub not having a center post in the middle. The control panel has changed too. I would much prefer to be able to just push warm soak or hot wash or cold rinse, rather than pick thru the "heavy", "bulk", "sheet" buttons to try and get the wash settings I want.

Now, the new dryer is something else altogether! I have a service man coming out to check on the top of the new dryer. This will be his second time out. The top seems to get in the way of the rotating drum and goes boom, boom, and boom every time the dryer drum turns during drying. The tops are flimsy plastic. I have a feeling it warps after being heated when the dryer is on high or low heat or the tops are not properly designed.

A top loading dryer was an interesting idea but just wasn't pulled off well. Just buy a front loading dryer. I also have bubbles behind control panel masking. I would suggest interested buyers go to Consumer Reports Magazine and read further evaluations of washer and dryers.

Both times, it took a couple of weeks to get a replacement. The technician from the appliance store told me this was the norm with F&P parts.

The dryer has always taken an excessively long time to dry our laundry completely, and the lint collection is very poor. Now, eight years later, the control panel is out on the washer again. The appliance store where I purchased them no longer carries this brand. I am debating whether to scrap this washer or try to have it fixed. I am very dissatisfied with this brand. We are on our second refrigerator from Fisher & Paykel. FP replaced the first one after one year of constant problems, frustrations and technicians repairing it. We had the new one for one week and a part just fell off the interior of the door so it would no longer self close on one side. After 2 years, we got an error code for fan failures which, according to the manual, "was highly unlikely to ever happen". Repair man came out and replaced the fans. One month later, I noticed the upper fridge area was not very cold, so I adjusted the setting towards colder.

A few days later, my husband opened the freezer and ice had accumulated everywhere. We inspected the door seal and all around the drawers and nothing was blocking or preventing the door from shutting. Repair man came back out, inspected the seals as well and determined it was from a leak somewhere in the back of the unit. FP said we were most likely at fault for leaving the door open. Not true! They said we should unplug the unit, remove all food and let defrost for 24 hours. Repair man said that would be such a huge mess and inconvenience for something that will just recur again. I called FP back and got the usual run around with their terrible customer service people. I have wasted so much of my time dealing with Fisher and Paykel. I just want my money refunded so I can buy a product from a reliable company.

The valve went out again today and flooded the laundry room. We are afraid to leave water on since it may never shut off the water flow.

This was resolved. Fisher and Paykel sent out a certified tech and the problem was fixed.

    Original Review: March 18, 2012

Certified technicians from BGE Home have been called out to replace parts on my dryer at least 12 times in the past year. They have basically replaced every square inch of the appliance, including the computer board twice. Yet, this product that I once love continues to not work. I can't tell you the countless amounts of times we've had to take off from work, etc. I'd love for the company to own up and help us fix this problem once and for all.

The last technician said, "The washers do not properly dispose of lint." Thus meaning the dryer has to be vacuumed at least once a week. Never would I have thought of this when I invested over $1,000 into what we thought was an energy-saving device. I don't want to belabor the point of how dissatisfied I am, but I do want resolve from F&P. Stand behind your product, and let's make this right.

My Fisher & Paykel Washer failed to pump out water or complete a spin cycle. The technician from the store that we bought it from, determined that the pump was not operating and needed to be replaced. This company no longer carries Fisher& Paykel products mainly because it continues to change replacement parts, and have poor support in receiving parts. He did contact the Service Dept. for F&K and was able to find the part number needed for the pump. My wife had to contact them to order and pay for the part.

After receiving the shipping's tracking number and date of delivery, it became a waiting game. When the package did not arrive on the expected date, my wife contacted the customer service personnel and initially was informed that they could not find the order; then determined that the order did not ship because an additional part was required for the pump. As luck would have it, this part was not in California but was located somewhere in Kentucky.

By and large, someone took it upon himself to cancel the order, but failed to inform us of the situation. My wife now had to get the correct information, order the part, trust the so-called experts to credit our charge account, and play the waiting game. Mind you, 2 weeks has lapsed since this process began. When the much awaited part arrived, we had to wait another 4 days for the service tech to install it. Today when I arrived home from work, I found my wife in tears and on the verge of a mental breakdown. The part was installed and when the tech ran a cycle through the machine with a load of clothes in it, it failed to pump the water out again.

To make a long story short, when he talked to a tech at F&P, he was informed that a change made to their parts required that the motherboard also needs to be replaced at the time a new part was installed. Now we are talking an additional $190 for the part and $25 for shipping and handling. The total cost with parts already received was $357. NFW are we going to continue to pump money in to this money pit. To fix this problem, we have ordered a new washing machine but it is not an F&K product.

Never again will we waste good money on any product by F&P. Not only will we no longer support the products of this company, we will seek out every opportunity to express our dissatisfaction and terrible experience to anyone that will listen. This is the worst buying and service after the sale experience that we have ever encountered. I can only hope that F&P's competition will eventually drive them out of business.

I want to start by saying we are very happy (so far) with the GWL11 Washer. It is 6 years old and 1 year out of extended warranty. I called the local factory's recommended shop on Thursday and Baker Appliance came out the next Monday. He ordered the part for regular delivery. A different repairman returned on Monday, a week later, to replace the electronic control unit. They discovered the wrong part was sent. He said the box had the correct part number on it but the part inside was incorrect. Does this happen a lot?

My issue is, he told my wife they would ship the correct part the next day. I called them Tuesday to ask about the part delivery. The girl said she would check and call me back but never did. I left a message on Tuesday night and she called me back Wednesday morning and said she didn't have it yet. I called again and explained what the repairman had said. She asked someone in her office about it. She said they weren't told and it would be another $50 for next day shipping. I then gave up.

Wouldn't Fisher & Paykel absorb the additional cost if they shipped the wrong part? I spent more than $50 at the laundromat over the last 2 weeks. We have 5 people in our home.

We finally retrieved the clothes and called out the service company. 2 weeks later and 10 parts ordered, the service company came out and replaced what was needed. After going through 3 drums and other parts, the service company deems the dryer unfixable but Fisher and Paykel replied, "Then we will keep sending out more drums for the dryer." I purchased a FP washer & dryer in 2008 with good recommendations. What a disappointment! Noisy, noisy, noisy. I'm embarrassed when we have company and they ask, "What's that noise?" I am embarrassed to say its brand name. This is supposed to be a good washer and dryer. The washer is off balance with every load of sheets I wash and plenty of other loads.

What an inconvenience to constantly try to re-balance the loads. Also, the design of the dispensers is awful. I have to take them apart and clean them because disgusting black stuff is lurking under the covers. The dryer takes so long to dry. The lint bucket is emptied after each load but about monthly, my husband has to take the lint filter assembly apart to clean the internal parts or the sensor gets covered and the dryer works even longer.

I've been using automatic washers and dryers for 42 years and have never been more dissatisfied. I will never recommend FP to anyone, in fact, my recommendation for an FP product would be to stay away!

Interestingly, I was talking to my friend who loved my dishwasher and when she remodeled her house, she bought two single drawer dishwashers. I was surprised to find that she has one that operates perfectly. The other is plagued with these little bugs and she's disgusted. She also has no bugs in her home either. I had a service call due to excessive squeaking. The lint trap screen failed and was subsequently replaced. I also had the washer looked at, because the water was not filling. And drain tube was fixed. He said we would probably need to replace the bearings. My husband replaced the drum bearing, but the drum belt tension roller bearings are original and are probably the culprit of the continued squeak. Also, the dryer not drying very well. Due to economic restraints and cost of bearing and poor design that make service costly, we are looking at ditching the dryer. Based on the premium purchase price, the dryer is certainly not looking to provide the 15- to 20-year trouble-free service life expectancy; and we are highly dissatisfied with this product.

My husband has been out of work (under-employed for the past 4, going on 5 years), so service calls are costly. Well, the elements on this model have gone out of it multiple times. Yes, my vents are clean, yada yada yada. I did have to laugh that they changed their warranty to 1 year because of their cost in repairing the elements and other parts.

They recommended I move my dryer to an exterior wall so that it had an extremely short exhaust run. They also told me they 'beefed up' the elements to make them more durable. Unfortunately, the elements cost more than $80.00 each time they break, and because F&P hasn't been forced to fix the problem, we as consumers are expected to continue to pad their pocket with repair costs. I should add that twice, when a tech was in my house, he wouldn't put my dryer back together to use with one working element because he said it was a fire hazard. Fire hazard! Does somebody have to die before F&P actually addresses this issue? It has been brought to their attention.

We have had our Fisher & Paykel dryer for a little over two years. At the end of the first year, there was a problem with the door. Fortunately, it was still under warranty and was replaced. However, at the end of the second year, the sensor did not work. The dryer would spin continuously without any heat. At the end of the cycle, the dryer would rotate for several minutes in the locked position and we could not open it. We had contacted Fisher & Paykel to find out what the problem was, and they suggested that we call a technician.

We contacted an authorized technician, who said that the door was broken. As the part being replaced was under warranty within the year, I asked that he contact Fisher & Paykel regarding warranty for that part. He called, was placed on hold, and then was disconnected. Since he had to go to another appointment, I said that I would contact Fisher & Paykel directly. Fisher & Paykel asked that I submit invoices for the purchase and the technician's notes, which I did. They then informed me that it is not their policy to reimburse for payments! My response to them was, "How was I to submit the technician's notes without payment?" They apologized that they were sorry I did not know the process.

How would a consumer know what their process was without being told, either by their authorized service rep or their customer service? I was not advised of my rights or their process, and as a result, I am now out of pocket for around $300 for a dryer that is only a little over two years old. I have had Maytag and Whirlpool washers and dryers for 30 years, and not once did I have to call for service. This product is a lemon. I have given this feedback to Fisher & Paykel and am in the market for a new dryer. It would be less expensive to purchase another dryer, a different brand, than to continue with any further repairs down the road.

He left again, and had to order that part. Five days later I had to call to find out what was going on. The HiTech service, or rising service solution person, as their caller ID reads, informed me that they were service techs, not a warehouse, and so parts had to be ordered. Every time the guy comes, it's another long trip, paid by me from their location. How can you be an authorized service and not carry parts? Also, I find the Fisher Paykel website very unhelpful re: technicians. I talked to a living person, and she had no more information than I did, so that also was useless. I love my dishwasher, but the arrangements for service are inept. I will not use them again.

I purchased a Fisher and Paykel fridge model e52213. We had issues with the ice machine not working and then the water dispenser stopped working shortly after buying the fridge. The fridge technician could not isolate the problem. We had ongoing problems with ice temperature and back light display. I sourced the issue with the fridge myself due to the smell of burning wires in the top of the door. I noticed that the wire has no second insulation and that the action of the door could wear or cut by crimping in this area.Three of the wires on our unit have been cut and the other wires are bare. I feel this could be the cause of problems for a lot of other people with this model fridge with ongoing beeping and flashing lights and no temp control. Our fridge is just out of warranty but if the wires had not rubbed or crimped, our fridge would still be operating. I feel this is a design hazard rather than a warranty issue. Our fridge is a right to left opening model. I am not sure if this would make a difference. Looking forward to your response.

The Fisher Paykel refrigerator model E522B is made with junk plastic parts that continue to break, and we are not rough on our appliances, as we are senior citizens, and previously owned a Frigidaire refrigerator, that lasted us over 25 years without one repair. However, in one year this Fisher Paykel refrigerator has had the following parts replaced: the rear caster wheels (broken on delivery), the plastic cover on the freezer door (broken when replacing the stripped freezer door handle), the plastic door closer under the door hinge has broken twice now, and a foam insulation kit was installed to help reduce the popping noises from the compressor.

F&P customer service takes its good old time in responding to online inquiries about their products, and makes you jump through hoops, before they respond. They don't believe you, even after you register the product online with them, and inform them of how many times the unit was serviced as they still ask for proof (now want photos and receipts), when something breaks. Don't they have a computer system that logs the reimbursements they have made to service repair companies on their products? This will be our last purchase of New Zealand made junk as they seem to have no pride with craftsmanship!

We purchased a top load washer/dryer set in July 2009. By November 2010, the heating element in the dryer broker and the lint trap was clogged, meaning the dryer was not producing any heat to dry clothes. We had it serviced at that time, replacing the heating element and removing the lint trap to clean it, and now in January 2012, the link trap is clogged again.

Also, almost immediately after purchase, the washing machine started leaking whenever a load was more than half full. Additionally, the washer began to (and still) stop wash cycles regularly because the load is not balanced. Sometimes, a wash cycle will stop up to 10 times before it finally runs through, taking almost a full day to wash one load of sheets/blankets. Also, in January 2012, we noticed that the top part of the plastic basket in the washer has begun to shred and tear. We are now weighing the choice of having a repair man out to fix it or not sink any more money into a machine we're so unhappy with.

We have been extremely disappointed with this set. We purchased this make and model when we built our new home because we wanted a modern, efficient washer/dryer. What we got was almost three years of headaches, service calls, and wasted water and electric.

It's a shame that all the people who have left complaints here, don't have a friend or family member that's a appliance tech, because the Fisher & Paykel washer & top load dryer are the best laundry set I've ever owned. Fortunately for me that I have a brother who not only is a tech, but also worked for Fisher & Paykel, so he knows their products, inside and out.

When I 1st got them and saw the tops were all plastic, I thought I was forced into the biggest mistake of my life. Because like many other people here, I got rid of my Maytag set that were still working after 30 years with very little service. Although I've had some issues with the top load dryer, mainly the lint build-up behind the grill that he vacuums out once a month. I've only had to replace a lint screen and bearings kit in the 6 years that I've own it. Since I only had to pay for the parts and not for labor or service charge, my cost have been very minimal.

As for the washer, the only problem is that when we do large loads it usually splashes water on to the basement floor. Since it's only a concrete floor, it's not a major issue. The only thing my brother can think why we are not experiencing the same problems with leaking pumps causing computer board to burn out is, we all bought our machines manufactured in New Zealand before they opened their Ohio, USA factory.

Considering all the laundry my family does in a week, the Fisher & Paykel set has held up very well, so far. I know it's largely in part because my brother is an appliance tech and not everyone is as fortunate. But I'm very happy with them. The reverse- tumble dryer has cut down on my ironing, saving a great deal of time and energy.

I have no problems with the dryer so far, but the washer starts beeping into the wash cycle, and it takes forever (and I mean forever) for the tub to fill (I'm talking about all day to finish 2 loads of clothes), because I'm constantly having to go and press the machine to start up again. It won't rinse. It only fills, and then drains. It also leaks from time to time. I figure the whole panel is shot, and I don't know what the deal is with the tub filling so slowly, but I'm completely fed up with it, and after reading other complaints, I feel misled by this company and doubt I'll even bother to waste money to have it checked out.

Both the washer and dryer had light usage (2 to 3 loads per week). I will never buy another washer or dryer with a push button computer panel, nor will it ever be the Fisher Paykel brand. I bought my old Kenmore washer and dryer second-handed, and they were still going after 28 years, when I got rid of them. I wish I had them back (who cares if they weren't energy efficient, they worked, which is more than I can say for the overpriced cheap junk imported from overseas these days)! So I cut it in half. That was wrong, it still leaks. After 2 years, now, it has started making a high-pitched squealing sound. First, it started only when it started filling, then when it started to spin, and now all the time. It still leaks. Thank goodness, I was smart enough after the first flood to purchase a drain pan to sit it in, or I would be replacing floors constantly.

The agitator has had to be replaced 3 times already. I would not recommend any Fisher Paykel appliances to anyone. The company is no help at all and the appliance store ( Maidencreek TV & Appliance, Reading, Pa) are useless. Their service techs are hopeless, as to what to do to fix the problem. They recommended I purchase an extended warranty since I was having so much trouble with the unit. If you want to throw your money away, just purchase a Fisher Paykel appliance. My new GE washer and dryer arrives on Friday. I told my husband to leave the washer in the yard and every time I use my new unit, I want to beat the Fisher Paykel with a sledge hammer and after that, I want to hook a chain to it and drag it behind my truck.

My washing machine beeped on Tuesday and I followed the directions in the user's manual to try to correct the problem. In the meantime the control panel was burnt out because the drain pump was broken. I called the repairman and he came on the following Tuesday and did not have a drain pump to install because they had just used the last one. I am guessing that there have been a lot of problems with Fisher and Paykel drain pumps. If I would not have tried to correct the problem, I possibly would not have burnt out the control panel. It is costing me $352 to repair the machine. I had ordered a brand new one, the same as what I had and I could have had it delivered on New Year's Eve. I slept on it and cancelled the order because I thought I would be saving $300.

The repairman said that they have replaced many control panels but Fisher & Paykel have corrected the problem by adding a fuse that will not cause the control panel to burn out. I would have hoped this would have been a product recall and saved a lot of people time and money. I really like my Fisher and Paykel machine but I am disappointed with the product not being recalled if you knew it was faulty. First off, Kathy from Milford, OR, the loud noise in the dryer is the ball bearing (1) on the right side of the dryer as you look at it. Get some white grease and carefully remove and clean the ball bearing, then cover in white grease and even more carefully replace so that the drum, etc. is balanced. The lint contraption is non-functional after each 20th load or so. The lint screen has to be removed and washed by hand and the rest of the unit vacuumed out and then reassembled. After doing this for years, it’s now down to a bi-monthly exercise of 25-30 minutes, including putting away tools and vacuum.

I'm burdened with too many Fisher Paykel appliances: a double oven, washer, dryer, and double dish drawer dish washer. All in some form of disrepair. The double oven's lower oven stopped working (suspect circuit board), washer has cracked top, control panel buttons breaking, the dryer has had the screen removed to clean so many times the screws are stripped, and the dishwasher filter screen in the top drawer keeps popping up and stopping the sprayer arm from revolving and then I just wash the dishes by hand. All of Fisher Paykel should be closed and customer appliances replaced.

My dryer stopped drying clothes and had a repairman come out to discover that it needed to be reset. Now, it is starting to still leave clothes damp, even when using the extended dry. My washer within 2 weeks stopped working as well.

The repairman came out and stated that the pump needed to be balanced and could possibly go out. Within 3 weeks, the pump on the washer went out. I had the repairman come back out and he had to order the part. 2 weeks later, he came back out and installed the new pump. Now a month and a half later, the circuit board is starting to have problems. I can no longer use the regular cycle which by the way is the cycle that is suppose to try to re-balance a load if the washer thinks that it is out of balance.

So what is F&P going to do about these issues? By what I have read, absolutely nothing. They will call and try to make a nice attempt at resolving the problem but are they going to purchase a new washer and dryer for me or replace the ones I have? I highly doubt it. I will never buy anything that has the name F&P on it again.

Like the 100's of complaints I have just read about F&P clothes dryers mine is no different. Actually, compared to others I'm feeling lucky that mine has lasted 6 years before a drum bearing has failed. My issue is two fold:

    1) After contacting customer service they were totally satisfied with six years and considered it a "good run". I, however, am not satisfied with six years since my Maytag lasted 28 years and the only reason I gave it up was for styling reasons. I gave the dryer to a young married couple to use. It might still be running for all I know. F&P were more than happy to sell me, at full retail price, a bearing kit.

    2) After seeing the 100's of complaints and reading the companies "stock" response (which is not helpful at all), I am left wondering what the results were and how did the company satisfy the complaint.

I have ordered the part from the company ($73.30 plus shipping) and hopefully this will solve my squeaking issue. I wished I had seen this complaint board before I purchased an F&P product. It really makes we wonder how F&P can stay in business.

It is not unusual for parts to fail on any appliance (Fisher & Paykel or not Fisher & Paykel) during it's life. If a consumers unit is out of warranty it is standard for them to pay retail prices for the parts they buy, same goes for all manufactured goods in the USA (our prices are actually less expensive than most dealers sell them for, so we urge our customer to purchase them directly through us).

To address your second concern; we do not update these responses with outcomes, as no outcome is guaranteed to be the same. If you wish to speak to our customer service manager, you may reach her at 949-790-8900 ext 3401. Sincerely, FISHER & PAYKEL USA

I bought a Fisher Paykel washer and dryer based on the sales pitch that loads very seldom get off balance and that clothes spin almost dry. From the start at least one out of every 4 loads would get off balance. I had a repair man service my washer numerous times while it was under warranty. At one point the rocker arms were broke and had to be replaced and caused from the loads getting off balance. The last repair visit the service man said he would have to order parts and would be back to install them. He hasn’t been back and that was months ago. My washer still gets loads off balance and now it won’t complete the rinse cycle. But now my warranty has expired so I’m stuck with an expensive washing machine that doesn’t work. I will never buy another Fisher Paykel product nor will I ever buy anything from the store where I purchased them. I’m stuck with an appliance that doesn’t work and the warranty is now expired.

Over the course of three years we have had 6 service calls on the Fisher Paykel dish drawer dishwasher. The hoses crack and water has leaked onto my wood floor causing damage 3 times. Another time, the electric board needed replacing, and just two weeks ago the entire magnet and inner workings on the top drawer need to be replaced. The total cost of this last repair is $600. Before this current dishwasher, we owned the first generation Fisher Paykel dish drawer. It was as horrible as our current one. There is absolutely no customer service or help from Fisher Paykel. They blame every defective part and problem on the water, or detergent, or operator error etc. Do not ever buy a Fisher Paykel unless you have piles of money and time lying around. I can't believe the money we have wasted over the years on these subpar pieces of trash. I refuse to fix it again. I am throwing it out and getting a Bosch.

We bought a Fisher and Paykel washer and dryer in Nov. 2005 with the extended warranty from Lowes. After one year I had to have the water pump replaced. After two years I had the pump clog. I have had clothes torn. I had to have repairman come out-total on that visit took two weeks to repair. Now we have a loud noise with the washer. Each year there has been a problem with the washer-now we go onto the dryer. The control panel goes in and out; now have a very loud noise. It doesn't always dry the clothes. The lint screens are torn, which allows the lint to go behind the lint panel and causes the dryer to turn off if there is too much in there.

It clogs the whole thing; of course we once again have the repairman on his way, which he thinks it is the bearings or the pulleys in the dryer. I wonder what that is going to cost. Needless to say, we will most likely not have the dryer repaired. We will have to purchase another washer and dryer. I’m so tired of the whole mess. We will never buy a Fisher and Paykel. When you talk with customer service it is like speaking to the wall. There’s no help whatsoever. This company does not stand behind their products. It’s good money just thrown away!

I bought a $2500 gas range and it was broken as soon as I took it out of the box. When I turned on the oven, the fan failure light came on, so I couldn't use it. I contacted them and two weeks later, a repair technician showed up. He had to order new parts and two weeks later, he installed them, so I could finally use the oven.

Once I was able to use the oven, I discovered that the fan that cools the outside of the oven was extremely noisy and vibrated the whole appliance. I contacted them again and a month later, he showed up with a new fan. He installed the new fan and it didn't make a difference. By this time, I had also discovered that even though I set the oven at 200 degrees, the lowest temperature I could get in the oven was 325.

Five months later, he came back with special tape to put around the noisy fan which made a difference. Although it is still a little noisy, I can live with it compared to the racket it was making before. He also brought a new thermostat and spent hours installing that. It didn't fit, so the oven knob doesn't fit on right, I have to leave the escucheon off to put the knob on. I can't light the oven with the knob on. I have to turn to the desired temperature, pull off the knob, stick my finger in the hole and press the thing in to get the oven to light. It still didn't fix the problem with the oven and now three of the burners don't work.

I bought this stove in September 2010. It's now December 2011 and the problems keep getting worse. All of the delays are either from their representative not getting back to the repairman, or the parts being back ordered for months at a time. This is the worst appliance I have ever owned and I would not recommend this brand to anyone - the oven doesn't work properly; only two out of five burners work and repairs have been dragged out for fifteen months.

I purchased what was supposed to be a "top of the line" top loading dryer made by Fisher & Paykel. We made the purchase 2 years ago at Lowe's Home Improvement. The salesman did a great job, he got us to spend a lot more money then we had planned! Now, in only 2 years of use, the drum bearing broke. I don't think it's a good sign when you go to the Fisher & Paykel website for part and see that the drum bearing is one of the top most frequently ordered parts! The first thing that comes to mind is manufacturer defective part!

It's the week before Christmas and we are really going to need our dryer over the next 2 weeks. I called today to see about ordering the part but no one answered. I did a search online and found this Consumer Complaints website and now I'm even more concerned about buying parts because after reading all the problems everyone is having, it sounds like I'm going to be throwing good money after bad. I would think twice before you purchase these products with what I have read today, they don't seem to last. FYI, we use our stuff with care, keep it cleaned and it's used in a very well ventilated area. So if we are having problems, you will too!

But to be fair, unless this company stands behind its products, which remains to be seen, I'm interested in seeing if Kyle ** is a real person and how this negative experience I'm having works out. I will certainly be fair to the company because sometimes things happen, and that's where a company can either shine or show its true colors.

If they don't stand behind the product, then I really think all of us on this complaint board should file a class action lawsuit against them. But if they do stand behind the product and make thinks right, that's all we should ask of them!

We have experienced unacceptable service delays in getting a repair to our 2.5 year old F&P Washer (Ecosmart). It seemed to work well and does a good job drying out the clothes. We have a Sears maintenance/extended warranty so we had preventive maintenance performed less about 8 or 10 months ago. In mid-November 2011, the washer made an odd noise and refused to spin. We called for service and could only get an appointment for three weeks later (12/6/2011). It was a great inconvenience, especially over the Thanksgiving holiday with family coming to our house. My wife was not happy and had to go to the Laundromat several times.

At the 12/6 service appointment, the technician said that it needed two parts (including a circuit board). But he had to order them and they would not arrive for a week. So, the follow-up appointment was set for 12/15/11. My wife was extremely disappointed and expected the washer to be fixed on the 15th. At the appointment on the15th, the technician installed the parts, turned it on, and the circuit board burned out. Now my wife is absolutely livid as it will be another week or more before the circuit board and a new drain pump arrives. She is convinced that repair will fail as well as the tech does not seem to know what he is doing. She demanded that Sears provide her with a rental machine (they will reimburse, but we have to pay up front). She has also announced that she wants a new washing machine when this one breaks again and it won't be an F&P.

He failed to tell me they would last forever as long as I didn't mind replacing pump and boards in washer every 8-12 months and bearings in dryer every 2 years, and that's without any use on dryer from April to September-October, as I hang everything on line in summer months.

Somehow it seems strange that along with lots of other people it's always something we did to cause the problem! Has anyone looked into or know if we have the grounds for a class action suit? I will check into it, unless someone already has. I can't believe I tried to submit this form and it failed because it wanted me to rate it using star method? Should be a negative star choice.

I have an F&P EcoSmart washer and dryer. Over the past 3 years of use, I've had the heating element on the dryer replaced 3 times. Even though the element itself is always under warranty, F&P says I still have to pay over $100 to have a tech diagnose what I already know the problem to be, then wait 2 weeks for the part and again pay the tech to install it. I have slate floors in my laundry room and the appliance tech told me I need to wear shoes because the way the element is set, it could sag and easily hit the floor, causing electrical shock. How unsafe is that?

But now after only 4 years of use, my washer has totally died. I noticed the pump was short-cycling when trying to drain the water. When water did drain for about 2 seconds, there was no blockage. Then the control panel completely died within an hour. Now I have no washer, my four grandchildren live with me and my brother, who I have not seen for nearly 10 years, is coming in from overseas with his wife and 3 children to stay for 2 weeks during the holidays. I live in a rural area and the nearest laundry mat is 30 miles away. I can't even afford to get the tech out until after the holidays, but even if I could it would still take 2 weeks to get the parts, if it's even able to be repaired. So what am I supposed to do? Thanks for the happy holidays, F&P!

I purchased three F&P appliances in 2005 (double drawer dishwasher, a washer and dryer). All three of them have been a total waste of money, for each one has had problems which make them irreparable and problematic.

When I purchased the F&K washer and dryer my main concern was the fact that both units were controlled by the electronic board. The salesman replied that this should be one of the significant advantages due to the fact that if something went wrong with the washer or dryer they simply send out a replacement electronic board for about $75. All I would have to do is unplug the old one and plug in the new one. How far from the truth that was. They never mentioned that the only repair service company was one person in the entire Houston, Texas market that ended up knowing less about the product than me. And besides, they charge you $75-$85 just to come out and diagnose the problem.

After doing so with the washer, they said that it was the electronic board and they would have to order. When the board came in they replaced it. It still did not work and they said the entire motor would have to be replaced at a cost that far exceeded purchasing a new washer. Needless to say, I was smart enough to send the new F&K packing to my backyard graveyard only to replace it with the very old Maytag washer which I had taken out just due to its poor visual appeal. Boy have I learned. I would much rather have a dingy, slightly dented beige workhorse of a washer as in my Maytag, which is older than me, than this new updated F&P laughing stock of an appliance. Let me say if I was the F&P Marketing Director and I saw comments as numerous and detailed as the ones I saw on this site, I would set out to make things right with these customers.

Secondly, my F&P dryer just all of a sudden stopped heating. So I decided to look at this website prior to calling the no-use of a repair service that F&P has "accredited with the worthiness to repair its appliances." Well, I only wish that I had found this website prior to my purchasing these F&P products. What worthless pieces of useless technology. I think the woman early put the entire frustration into place when she said her mother used an old tub and ringer system and at least at the end of the day she was relaxed. I have to agree wholeheartedly. I think I am going back to washing in a tub and ringer and then putting them out to dry on the line if this is the best consumers can expect. Now I know why my mom only purchases Kenmore. She said they were totally reliable and that Sears always stands behind their product. Since having to do my laundry there now for the last year due to my unsuccessful purchase, I think I have to finally give in to my mom that said," I told you so!"

The last appliance (and thank God someone talked me out of the refrigerator or I would be writing in about 4 instead of 3 appliances) is the double drawer dishwasher. Now, how a service repairman can tell me that the reason the top drawer tends to stop after 20 minutes of washing and start beeping like it is off balance is due to operator error I do not understand. On top of which he said it can be attributed to the dishwashing detergent selected. Now, I am a Cascade man and that is the only detergent I have ever used since learning early on during my college years that nothing works better. And thank God because when the dishwasher finally makes it through the washing cycle at least I know they will be sparkly! Not necessarily clean because this dishwasher has to be the worst at cleaning dishes.

I installed a cheap GE Dishwasher in my butler’s pantry, which I now find myself hauling dishes from the Kitchen to the butler’s pantry to avoid using the F&P because the cheap GE washes faster, better and quicker than the F&P ever did or would ever be able to do in the future. It seems that after starting the dishwasher, which was installed in a newly renovated 100-year old historic house that is on pier and beam, it seems to stop and start beeping each time you walk into the kitchen during its cycle. It starts immediately and begins washing again after opening and shutting the drawer and hitting. I mean, I waste more time opening and closing the drawer to ensure that my dishes are clean than I would if I simply washed them by hand. So from my experiences, that is enough. Being taught from a young age that three strikes equal an out, F&K that was the last pitch and you are out!

I bought a FP two-drawer dishwasher about 5 years ago. It cost me a small fortune! We had our cabinets custom made to fit the FP dishwasher. It has been nothing but problems since the moment we got it. Now, it is on its last legs. It constantly fills up with water and my husband has to take the drawers out and wet-vac it, then put a de-humidifier in front of it for at least 24hrs. Once it is finally dry, he has to go into the basement and turn the electricity back on (which he shuts off to do this whole "drying process").

Inevitably, after one or two cycles it fills with water again and starts beeping. The beeping does not stop until we shut the power off again in the basement. The process repeats endlessly. We have had repairmen look at it and they say they see it all the time and there is nothing they can do with FP products, they are just not made well. My mother has had the same cheap Sears dishwasher for almost 30 years! I would love to replace it but I resent the fact that I paid so much for it and it is junk. Plus, I'm afraid I will have to buy the same one again since my cabinets were specially designed to fit that model and I am afraid I will have the same problems with a new one.

The washer has done great. The dryer is constantly broken. The dishwasher simply does not clean dishes well at all. I've had Kenmore and Maytag and would recommend either over these worthless, expensive pieces of junk. The dryer heating element has burned out six times or more. Clearly, there is some defect that should warrant a recall. Dishes have to be pretty much washed by hand before putting them in the dishwasher. It is worthless.

The purpose of this review is to give our feedback regarding the service we've been getting from local authorized dealers and support they get from the company. No matter what, do not buy any products from Fisher & Paykel! Trying to get their appliances fixed is even more frustrating than finding out that your appliance broke down after only a few months of service. Prepare to wait for weeks and don't be surprised if the problem reoccurs within days or hours of the "fix". Then, wait a few more weeks. There is no urgency, no ownership, no pride. I don't believe the company cares. Did you read their responses to customer complaints? They sound like a broken record.

At this point, we are seriously considering throwing both fridge and stove out and buy something else. It can't be worse, can it? What a waste of money.
