I had the pleasure of working with Empire in two states, Connecticut and North Carolina. In both instances I was extremely satisfied with the end result. The material was of high quality and the workman were very professional. They were on time, worked straight through to the end of the job, the installation was perfect and they cleaned up after the job was completed.

Sales appointment and quality of install was great, however I was overcharged my deposit and it took 5 calls to get the refund resolved. Then was told to allow 10 business days. Unacceptable for their billing error. I received a survey and voiced my concern knowing I would get a call regarding my comments. I did receive a call just to suppress my concerns, not to address them unfortunately. This was my second time using empire on two different homes. I will not be using Empire again due to the runaround and being transferred to different customer service reps who did not handle my concern the first time. Quality and efficiency of work is great but very poor customer service. What could have been a first call resolution turned into a headache.

I felt like there was a lot of pressure to commit to them or the good price was gone. You couldn't price around. I liked that they come to you, but felt like I had to choose from the small amount of samples they had. In the end I like the carpet I chose, but I don't love it. It's just ok. The installers were fantastic though. They worked quickly and were very friendly!

This was my third time using Empire and I was happy with the appointment, selection and installation process. Quality work. I like the seamless process of booking the sales appointment and installation date. Once you learn how to "negotiate" the pricing, it's a good value considering all the time and hassle you save.

This review is written in real time as of August 30, 2017. I will update timeline daily since my complaint is ongoing. Note: purchased tile during 50% off sale. 8/17 - date of install: before work commenced, I had to pay in full. Work was to be completed in two days. 8/18 - installers came back to grout. They ran out of grout and have to come back for a third day. At that time Empire's installer noticed at least 7 of the tiles were already chipped. Nobody walked on it yet. One tile was replaced. We marked off the other tiles that were chipped. He basically told us that the tile we were using wasn't a very good grade. The tile resembled a dark multi stained hardwood. When it chipped you saw white - the body color was white so it was very noticeable.

You could not tell from the original sample board that the body color was white. I did ask the salesman for an actual sample and he said Empire does not give out samples. Reflecting back. I should have insisted on a actual sample. I would have noticed the white body when I turn the tile over. I immediately contacted their customer service department. Customer service told me somebody would get back to me within 48 hours. I also called the salesman and expressed my concerns. He said the installers would check it out the next time they come back - which was the coming Monday. 8/21 - Monday. That morning I received a call from the installer. I questioned him about the complaint. He knew nothing about it. I told him to hold up on finishing the grout.

In the meantime I received a call from Empire rep. Jim **. I expressed my concerns about the chippage etc. After a lengthy discussion, He told me that Empire would rip out the ceramic and refund my money. I told him I would discuss it with my husband and get back to him. I also asked for a breakdown of material labor etc. He said he would provide that for me. I question the quality of the tile. My husband and I did some investigating over the weekend and what we came up with was Empire's tile was a low end product. Keep in mind I was assured by the salesman and Jim that they use nothing but the high quality material. I can see why they don't break out the product from the labor and materials. You never know what you're getting.

8/23 - called Jim back and left a message to call me. 8/24 - did not hear from Jim so I called again. 8/25 - did not hear from Jim for a third day. Also, I called the 800-number and told them I wanted to talk to somebody immediately since Jim was not getting back to me. Again I got no response on Friday. 8/28 - Monday. I called Jim again and left another voicemail. I also called the 800-number again and they told me another person other than Jim would get back to me.

Later that day Jim finally called me. I asked him why it took so long for him to get back to me. Jim said that he was spread thin. He was real busy. Oh well! I proceeded to tell him what we decided. We decided to have the floor removed. In all fairness to Empire I asked them if they had another product similar but was a better quality. This is when things started to turn around and their responses were very convoluted. At that point, Jim told me he never said that Empire would Remove tile and refund my money. I suggested that he review The taped conversation from Monday 8/21. When you call Empire they tell you that things are being recorded. He said he would call me back on Tuesday.

8/29 - Tuesday. I did not hear back from Jim but the person in charge of installation called me. He basically told me that they are not going to remove and replace the floor at no charge. He told me that it will cost me money. I was not satisfied with his solution. He told me he would talk to the sales manager and call me back. 8/30 - Wednesday. Let's see what happens today. Keep in mind that their lack of response and the fact that their story and solution kept changing frustrated me very much. Let's see how they handle this. I'll keep you posted.

Empire Today installed the carpet and foam that was underneath it in my bedroom, stairs, and two other bedrooms. Empie was a little bit cheaper than Ashley's and Carpet Liquidators. Also, they already came down and did everything. We already have the carpet for a month now and I like its color. The installers did the job really quick. But the carpet could have been pulled a little tighter and there were some tacks that are sticking up and my kids are cutting their feet on them. My husband told me that we needed to put something down in between the doors.

Also, there was a little miscommunication on Empire's part with their installers. Someone was supposed to call me when the carpet guy was supposed to come and I called them asking for him. They said that he will be here in 20 minutes but was not because he was actually on a different job. But other than that, everything was fine and it was a good experience. Everybody was nice and respectful.

Empire's cost and quality were comparable to the other brands I considered but I liked that Empire could get it done within a couple of days. We had them install a carpet in our master bedroom in the basement. Their installers were great, very prompt, showed up on-time and did a fantastic job. I like the feel of the carpet. Also, we were about to list our house and when we put the new carpeting in, it really made a much better, dramatic impact in the room. It's a much warmer feeling being in the basement and the new buyers of our home really loved the carpeting down there. Overall, it was a wonderful experience.

The response time of Empire Today to install a carpet in our home was much shorter. I would have had to wait six weeks for Home Depot to do so, so I chose Empire for their timeliness. In addition, although they were very similar in price, the product of Empire was a little bit better in quality than the one that I considered buying from Home Depot. I liked that the sales rep of Empire Today came to the house and showed me all the samples. Home Depot doesn't do that. The sales rep was very knowledgeable and courteous. I told him what I wanted and my price range, and we worked out my purchase.

I purchased carpeting for my living room, dining room and one bedroom. The installer did a great job, but he left the area a bit dirty and there was a pile of dirt to clean up. He also had a very thick accent that's difficult for some people like me hard to understand, and I hated to make him repeat everything he said. But the flooring certainly looks a heck of a lot better, and its durability and quality are better as well, compared to the carpet that was in there before. The Empire people were very prompt, courteous and informative, and I would recommend this company.

On August 14, 2017 a very nice salesman arrived for our appointment to discuss the repair of our 12 year old laminate floor purchased from Empire Today and the purchase of additional flooring for our family room. Our salesman suggested we open a repair request with Empire; in which I did so in front of the salesman. He was kind enough to take pictures of the flooring that needed repair and suggested we reschedule the sales appointment for 2 weeks out so we would have information regarding what Empire was going to do when he came out on 8/28/17 between 4-6-pm.

Guess what? He was a no show. Not only did he not show up, I never received a call from Empire canceling the appointment. I am so upset because my spouse took off work early on two occasions because Empire wants both decision makers present at the sales meeting. So not only am I getting the runaround and out 4 hours of pay, I called Empire Today to try and get information on what is going on and THEY HUNG UP ON ME. Do yourself a favor, do not waste your time and money with this company, shop elsewhere.

WORST SERVICE EVER!!! Job was scheduled to start on a Monday...They called Monday morning and said they were at our house on previous Saturday (they weren't). So they claim paperwork was now messed up but promised to be here on that Tuesday and would COMPLETE the job. All they did was put in the carpet in a 14 x 16 room and left the laminate here to do the kitchen the following day. So the next morning (Wednesday) 10:00, 11:00 rolls around and not even a phone call. My fiance put in calls to a couple of numbers he had, customer service placed several calls to the installers and NONE of the calls were answered.

I spoke with a supervisor finally at about 2:00 and he couldn't get any answers either and discovered we were not even on the schedule! He told us we would receive a discount for the inconvenience but would be 2 more days before anyone could come. About 4:30 that afternoon a couple guys just showed up (luckily we were home), laid a couple strips of flooring in our kitchen only to say that he would have to come back Friday and start over because it was "warping". Our home has been in shambles for days waiting to get 2 small simple rooms done. Can't wait til I find the number of the manager of this district (Jeffersonville, IN).

I shopped around a bit and Empire Today is a little cheaper than what I looked at. The installers were very professional and did a good job. I was shocked that it only took them 45 minutes to install the carpet. There were three of them. One was putting down tack strips, one was putting down the foam and one was doing another thing. They got here at 10:30 and by 11:18 they were putting stuff back in the truck. I had Stainmaster carpets installed and it met my expectations but I have one spot in the doorway that's a little uneven and it’s starting to buckle a little bit on one spot.

Also Empire Today told me that if I’m referred by a friend or I refer somebody I get $100 so I got the name of the person who referred me. They followed up with him and told them that they’re not going to pay them because I’ve already had the carpet installed. No one has ever said that I had to call before the installation. So they’re waiting on that $100 billing if they're gonna get it for referring me so I’m disappointed in that respect.

I had hardwood flooring installed in my living room by Empire Today. It was my first time purchasing from them, and the lady who did the work said she gave me a copy of the contract but I could not find it so she said she’ll mail me a copy which has not happened yet. Also, the same month that I had this purchase, they had a buy one and get second one free done but I did not qualify for that.

The house still had the original floor when it was built back then and through those years, the house shifted a little bit or a lot. I assisted in order to bring the floor up into the medial half inch plywood. They said I would have to pay a little more but I did not get a half-inch plywood put down. It was a quarter inch floor so it’s really not the level of the floor as much as I thought it would have been. I decided to make no war over that and I was not charged the half inch. The work was done and they were very nice and jolly guys. They were good and continued until they finished them.

A 50/50 deal was our incentive for going with Empire Today. That was awesome because we got estimates for the product years ago that were much more expensive. We had Empire install our living room, dining room, hallway, and Dad’s bedroom with laminated flooring that had pieces stuck together. The reason that we got new flooring was my dad had a catheter and there was a problem with it, and urine got soaked in the carpet. So, I wanted flooring that I could sanitize and put some bleach water on once a month, especially in my dad's bedroom. The product that we originally decided on was a little bit cheaper, but my dad had a power wheelchair, so the sales guy from Empire recommended that we go with another product and we decided to get that instead.

The salesperson was from Empire but the installer wasn’t, and the installer was the one who told me that the product we had ordered wouldn't have worked for us. I had explained to the salesperson that we needed something very durable for my Dad's wheelchair and sanitation issue, so I was a disappointed that he did not consider that in recommending the product.

The installers were awesome and quick. But when they got here, they said that there was no way the flooring was going to hold up because, with the glue that they put down, the pieces bulged right up against each other instead of interlocking like a puzzle. The installer said that if we had gotten the flooring with pieces that interlock like a puzzle, turning my dad's wheelchair would slowly loosen those pieces and open them. That problem actually put them back by a day but I really liked that they made sure that we were getting quality service. They also said a problem like that wouldn't have been covered under the warranty for the product. So, I was happy about that.

I definitely like the durability of the product that we got. My dad’s wheelchair had destroyed the hardwood floor that was originally in here, so the laminate flooring was placed on top of the hardwood. So far, I like how it holds up with my dad's wheelchair, and our dog and two small children. Empire Today was very professional and we had a good experience with them overall, and I would recommend them to a friend.

My flooring showed up defective and old flooring was already removed. I have 2 kids that had to live 3 days avoiding tack strips. I called corporate to discuss a discount and was given a number. When I called to discuss a discount I was reconnected with the installer who said it was corporate that would give the discount. Needless to say I have defective carpet installed in my home, an upset wife, overpaid for unprofessional installation, and feel totally slighted because of everything that transpired.

The only good part of Empire was the salesman. Good man. Crazy right. The only good part of a company is the salesman?! He must have been really good or believes in a product that sucks. My guess is the latter. Needless to say I never received a discount or never received a call back from corporate. Company sucks. Should have stayed small and local.

I wanted to go with Empire Today eight years ago but they didn’t service our area and my home. She was so discouraged with her other carpet. She didn’t want to have company and different things like that because we had had them cleaned several times but after a while, it doesn’t come out. I got new carpet five years ago and we’re really enjoying the carpet. I was very happy about the price, as well as the material itself. I love the color and the fabric. It’s very nice and comfortable. We didn’t go cheap because my mother's 86. She’s in a wheelchair which she runs over the carpet a lot. I wanted something that will stand that. So far, it's really wearing very well. It's so thick at first she could hardly push her wheelchair because it’s manual and doesn’t have one of the motor ones. She was so used to the other carpet that had a much lower pile. But she got it down and she just was very happy. My mother loves them.

The gentleman who came out in the beginning was perfect. He really worked for me. However, I knew that I have to make a payment while paying the down payment and that when the contractor comes, they want to get the payment right away. I understood that because the rep that came out to do the estimate told me in the beginning. I knew these guys are contractors and don't work personally for Empire, but the guy that came to our house came by himself which I thought was a little strange because he was doing the whole downstairs and then up the steps then the hall. He was rude because he got at my mom's house a few minutes before me. He didn't even say "Good morning" or anything. He asked me if I have the money right away. I was like, “Wait a minute, sir. Can I walk in?” I was still in the vestibule.

Later on, his supervisor came with another gentleman. They were foreigners and I think that might have been a little teeny bit of barrier but still it’s no need to be rude. They’re not the only people that we could have went with. However, things were better as things started progressing a little bit more. The supervisor apologized for the guy that came. I told him I knew that I was going to have to pay as soon as they got here and that that was fine, but the lack of common courtesy to speak to anyone before they start asking or talking about anything else was another thing. They would at least speak first. But I got past that.

Also, another thing that came up was I was trying to pay by check. My mother had already taken some money out of one of the accounts and put it into the checking account. They were gonna run the check and then tell my mother that it was declined. He put it through twice and kept telling my mother there was not enough money in the account to pay but I know what I put in it and it’s way more than enough. I did it a week before they even came. That upset us. I was more upset when she got upset than I was when the contractor was being so rude to me. I just got tired of it and my mom was getting to the point where she's in tears so we nixed the check and I just paid with the credit card which was not how I planned to pay it. Things like that happen but hopefully not all the time. I am still very happy it turned out the way it did and I would still recommend them.

We were happy with Empire Today the first time we used them. They installed new carpet in the house that we’re selling in Texas. We got them again to install carpet in every room upstairs and two rooms downstairs and it was another good experience. However, it was a longer process this time. They didn’t have the color. They had the colors in three different palettes and they weren't exactly the same. It took more than a week to get the carpet in, just when we were trying to move in. But I get it, stuff happens and just do the best you can do. I was impressed with how professional the carpet layers were. They were respectful to us. I like the grayish white color of the carpet. It's also nice that when I had spilled water on the carpet, the water sat on top. I was able to dab it right up and it was totally dry. It’s comfortable to walk on as well. I’d recommend Empire Today.

I had Empire Today install flooring in my living room. I was planning to do wood, but someone suggested something different. I was taking care of a two-year old and it’s better to have it cleaned easier. I was going to have a week without children so I thought of taking advantage of that and have the flooring done. The installers came and I’m very happy with the work they did. I love my flooring because all you do is just sweep over little crumbs. You can't do that with a carpet. The only thing I’m worried of is that I don’t know how to really give it a good clean.

Also, I’m worried that the spray I bought is going to hurt the floor. So far, I've been using the wet cloth on the sweeper. Getting to where I can feel comfortable with how I'm cleaning it is the only thing that matters. Still, I had a great experience with Empire. The sales person was excellent, the flooring looks very nice, and despite the price was a little high, I don’t have regrets.

Salesman was to call me to set up time to look at products again, he never called so I had to call HIM (and he smells like smoke which is offensive). I picked 2 diff products only to be told after making the install appt. that neither product was available. I had to wait a week. Also a CS rep called to ask me WHY I CANCELLED. REALLY?

We purchased vinyl flooring for our entire second floor and oak treads for our stairs. Installation was to occur in two events because the stair treads were going to take longer to arrive. Installation on the floor went fine, but when installers came to do the stairs, they were unable to due to the current stairs being particle board. We had worked with Empire before and had an experience where the stairs were problematic and needed to be replaced before proceeding, so we knew to ask about this. We asked multiple times and were assured that we would have no problems with the install. The salesperson even lifted the carpet to make sure we were good.

When we called the salesperson to attempt to resolve this, she "can't remember" and is assuming no responsibility. Instead she says we need to incur the cost to replace the treads with plywood. She had examined the stairs, we questioned her multiple times. Throughout our call with her the story and her understanding/recollection have changed each time. We are very disappointed in the integrity and accountability of this salesperson. Now we'll see if the company does the right thing. We've called the 800 number and will provide a more positive review if this gets resolved satisfactorily. Stay tuned.

UPDATE ON 09/06/2017: While I thought I would follow up within 24 hours, based on customer service indicating they would get back to me within 24 hours, it has been weeks. We have attempted to work with the company on numerous occasions to attempt to resolve our situation and have been extremely patient in waiting for the company to respond, but it has been futile.

Individuals in management who have had responsibility to review our case fail to do so, promise to follow up with phone calls and don't, are not documenting conversations in their CRM or, if they are, are failing to reference these resources. We have had at least 5 events where the company management was to call us back by a certain time and didn't. There has not been one instance where they have actually followed through on their commitments. The situation with installation still remains in that we have had a partial installation of what was contracted and remain at a standoff to get the remainder of the work done. Due to the lack of responsiveness by management, we now are ready to proceed to legal assistance to resolve this.

We loved our experience with Empire Today. We had them install a rug and the padding for our closet and bedroom. We had purchased one of the other bedrooms through them as well. The installation has met my expectations and we're thrilled. The previous people that had put the previous carpet down glued the doggone pad to the floor. And they didn’t just put a few dots. It was like swirly all over the place. So the guy that came for the installation had to work hard to scrape it off and get the padding out than it did for him to lay carpet. But he did a great job and worked really fast.

We were visited by salesperson Staci Martin for a free estimate for replacing the ceramic tile floor in the kitchen and the foyer (which meant taking it up) and taking up the carpet in the living room. We were given a price of 5200.00 to put in lvp (luxury vinyl plank). Was told it was a 1 day job and they could do it the next day. On Friday 8/11 a man who could not understand English and said he was here to take up the carpet (knew nothing about the tile). Sent him away and said we would like it all done at once. On Monday he returned and took up the carpet from the living room and tile from the foyer. Again a communication gap. On Tuesday he and another laborer returned (told us 8am, got here at 1030am and was here til 8pm. Finished taking up the tile. On Wed they returned at 1030 again (again was told 8am) then here til 730pm.

They covered nothing the whole time so the sanding of the cement patches created dust on everything in my kitchen. On thurs they told us that the floors weren't level and we would have to pay another 600.00. (with only cement floors, I felt we had no choice. The laborers spoke Spanish the whole time they were here, and didn't understand a word I had said. We were supposed to have the floor put in at a 45 degree angle. When they got to the kitchen they said too many cuts. By this time they have been here for 5 days and all I wanted was for them to get out of my house. We put a level the same places he showed us that the floor was unlevel and yes, it was the same way. On my husband finally sent a note with the guys that we wanted a supervisor that understood English to come with a level. On sat the supervisor Karen came with the contractor and a woman.

I had already spent 4 hours cleaning just the kitchen. Was told that they would do the cleanup. Karen proceeded to take all the leftover materials which we were charged for and told us we would receive a credit but could not tell us how much. They took back 16 cases of the planks, 6 rolls of underlayment, 12 bags of pro patch and 38 baseboards. They have credited us with a mere 200.00 for all of that. When we went online to home depot and priced the same materials it came to over 1700.00. The floor is very pretty but was not worth the stress these people put us through. Also our furniture was out in a screened room (not covered) for 4 days and it rained every day. I have never seen such slobs in my life.

I scheduled an appointment with Empire for a bid. Had no intention of signing a contract at that appointment but was talked into it. 5000 dollars to put laminate in kitchen and carpet the rest of our very small house. We scheduled installation 3 weeks in advance to coincide with my husband's vacation. They showed up as scheduled to install the kitchen floor. The young man was in and out in a few hours and we were very happy with the kitchen floor. The next morning we got a call confirming the carpet install. We did as the salesman requested and moved all small furniture and items out to the patio. Cleaned out all closets and moved everything off of floors.

2 hours later I got a call from Kevin in their St. Louis office telling me their installer had a personal problem and they were not coming. Needless to say I was not happy. He told me there was nothing he could do about it but told me he would take 150 dollars off the price and would be there the next day. So, everything came back into the house. An hour later Kevin called back to say he had great news. They had a cancellation and would be able to install our carpet after all. He said they would be there in an hour. So, everything went back out to the patio. I got a call saying they were on their way. Then another call from a Kevin telling me his installer didn't want to start the job that late in the day...

At this point I was furious. We had moved all of our belongings in and out twice in one morning. I asked for a guarantee that they would be at our house the next day, and he told me he would put his best team on our job. I hung up and told my husband we had to move it all back in the house, and he was mad. He told me to call Empire's 800 number, which I did. After explaining our problem to the person who answered, he transferred me to guess who? Kevin from their St Louis office. As the transfer went through, I heard Kevin say "Talking to her is redundant". He then tells me there is nothing he can do. Our job was too big to start so late... We moved everything back in except our washer and dryer.

The next morning we again get a call saying they were on their way. 2 guys showed up at 930. One of them comes in and wipes his feet on our carpet inside the front door. It had been raining and I guess he figured they would be taking up the carpet anyway. After they go through the house, they come out and tell us they couldn't do the install because we have asbestos tile throughout the house. I told him the salesman was fully aware of that, that he told me they would use the same tack strips and just replace the carpet. The guy then points out the missing tack strip between the kitchen and dining room. I told him we had a tack strip there but the young man who installed the new laminate removed it. He said that there was nothing he could do about it, he had kids and didn't want to get sick.

And then he gave me a number of a "friend" that would come and install a carpet strip for 300 dollars, and he left. I again called the 800 number and talked to a supervisor. She assured me someone would call me back quickly to resolve this issue. 3 hours later I still hadn't heard from them so I called back. Kevin from their St Louis office refused to get on the phone to talk to me. We moved everything back into the house, as rain was forecasted. We called Stanley Steemer who came out the next morning and cleaned our existing carpet. They made it look like new. We then hired another company to repair the damage done by Empire. The young man who had installed our kitchen floor cut the carpet back too far. They had to take carpet from one of our closets to patch it. They also installed new laminate in our living room to match the kitchen.

I have come to believe all of this was a blessing in disguise. After posting my very bad ordeal to a public Facebook page, a friend told me she had called Empire for a bid, and their salesman kept dropping the price because she refused to sign a contract on the same day. She told me she took the name of the carpet to another store and got a quote that has half the price Empire gave her. When she called Empire to complain, she got a call back the next day offering to do the job for 200 dollars less than the quote she had received. I would not recommend Empire Carpet to my worst enemy. As far as I'm concerned, they overcharge customers, they don't keep their promises, and they could care less if they make their customers lives a living nightmare... By the way, I did finally receive a call back from them 7 days later...

I called and a guy came out, measured my long cement patio, and gave me an estimate. The price sounded decent so I had them. I had a darker color on there and I liked the new color, so I had it done and I've had the carpeting since the middle of March. It's easy to clean. I vacuumed it and it seems to do fine. But I happened to be looking at the outside patio and noticed that at near the end of it, there's a spot where it’s buckled up. I called Empire and they said they would be contacting me. All in all, Empire was very professional and they did what they said they would do for the price they said they would do it for. I was happy with them and I hope that they come out and correct the flaw in the carpeting.

Also, we had tile in the kitchen and the salesman said we could just put the flooring on top of it. However, the installers said that we couldn't do that and that it wouldn't be even. So they had to call back to the store and get an additional price for tearing up the carpeting and the tile that was on the floor. We had to pay $167 extra to make those adjustments. The hardwood installers were wonderful and we are totally satisfied with the finished results. The vinyl installation turned into a disaster. The hardwood installers were respectful of our home. The vinyl installers were not. The first crew that came tore our old vinyl after we told them not to touch the floors until we cleared up some issues with customer service. That crew left and a second one came the next week.

Problems continued and they told us that the salesmen do not know what they are talking about. That was disturbing to us after spending a large amount of money. The laundry room floor feels spongy when we walk on it, but the other two rooms with vinyl do not feel like that. I checked out the floors before they left, but didn't think to look at my walls. The vinyl crew left marks on my walls and actually chipped the walls in places. In one of the bathrooms, I discovered they had hit the wallpaper and put a tear in it.

If I could base my experience with Empire based on the hardwood crew, I would highly recommend your company. But, since I have to look at the experience as a whole, I would not recommend Empire because of the vinyl installation. It will take us a lot of time and money to repaint walls and woodwork that has been damaged.

I was happy with Empire until my daughter came to me with a gash in her toe caused by an exposed nail in the new Empire rug. We then proceeded to feel along the edge of the carpeting and found that there are several exposed nail tips along the edge.

I have scuff marks and the floor is scratch resistant and they are refusing to fix the problem! I have had my whole house done by Empire! All my floors including bathroom, all window treatments through out my whole house! I have given this company way over $8000! So with that said I am hiring a attorney to resolve this problem! The floor should not scuff and is water resistant but they are claiming the water wasn't wiped up fast enough, so if that's the case don't call it water resistant! I have a lifetime warranty so I should be able to purchase replacement parts! Since you don't carry it, they need to replace it. This is why I'm hiring a attorney! I will never do business with Empire again or recommend them to anyone! I'm beyond frustrated.

The flooring was okay, but the price is too high. Also, the transition on the door for both the rooms was not installed well. It's not tight enough to fix it and it didn't show the real workmanship.

Empire has been in the business a long time so I gave them a try and they installed laminate flooring in my unit I had just moved into. I wanted new flooring on immediately but I didn’t know too many people around in the area and didn’t have enough time to really research. The salesperson was very knowledgeable and knew all about their product but the flooring I initially picked out was recalled and the salesman wasn’t aware of it when we ordered it. When the installation date came, they told us that my order was in a wrong warehouse. Then the salesman called and said that he found out that it was taken out of inventory and recalled because it was inferior merchandise and that they had a lot of complaints about it. He came by with some more samples and I selected another one.

I was supposed to have the product installed one day, but that didn’t happen. Installation was done the following day which still worked because I have a limited schedule. The installation team arrived on time, moved everything, was excellent, competent, clean, and did their job well. I love the way the floor looks but the upkeep is more than I expected it to be. They told me to use soap and water on it and it seems to stain easily. It's a dark floor so it shows everything.

I will be calling 7 On Your Side about this issue and will never use this company again.

Updated on 1/03/2017: I had Empire do some laminate flooring and they have sent out three inspectors and last week sent another one out so at this point I think they are stalling so they can't replace my floors. I had carpet installed in my home by Empire Today and everything went well. I’m very satisfied with the work and the price was good. I considered other brands but I put the project off for a while. When I got ready again, I decided that Empire Today was the one I wanted to go with from the commercial that I saw. At that time, there was a half-off and I didn’t have a whole lot to spend. The sales representative came to my home and that was better than going in to the showroom where I would just look and don’t know what I'd be looking at or have no idea what’s going on. It was very helpful for me that he was here. I didn’t have to go through all of that by myself. Plus, it's more convenient. He had a great selection and it was hard to choose. I had the color in mind and after he explained the different types of carpet, I was able to go with the one that best fit my needs.

I was also thinking about going through the house and having to move furniture to get work done. When he assured me that I didn’t have to do that and the installers would move the furniture, that really did it for me. Prior to all this, I had been to the store several times with my husband looking at carpets and still not having any idea of what we were gonna get running to when we got ready to buy it and have it installed, then having to go back and having people come out back-and-forth. But to have all of that done at one time with Empire Today, that was a good experience. I’ve already referred them to my neighbor. She’s not having her floors done right now, but my experience is what sold her and when she’s ready, she’s already assured me that she’s gonna call Empire Today.

I had Empire Today install carpeting and hard flooring in our town home that I own and was renovating. I was looking at other brands before purchasing from Empire, but Empire’s price made me choose them. The flooring has met my expectations. They worked. Also, my carpeting experience was wonderful. However, we haven't finished the whole process yet.

The guy who installed the carpet, his helper, and their company were awesome. However, the guy they subcontracted to put the hard flooring in downstairs was a nightmare. I've had to spend many phone calls with the schedulers and with Brian, the general manager of the Minneapolis office. Empire had to hire somebody else to finish the job properly. I need to call Brian to finalize things because Empire Today finally got the last part of the flooring done a few days ago. Luckily, it wasn't a big deal because the house is empty and it's being sold so we're just in the process of going through the closing. It took a couple of weeks to get things moving properly though.

From the very first moment the guy they subcontracted to do the hard flooring showed up, it was obvious there was going to be a problem. I would still recommend Empire to people who need a good deal. Brian has done what he can. I would also tell people that if they have any problems with Empire, they can trace their way back to the management or the local office to get a hold of the right people. Calling the 800-number doesn't work.

The salesman came out with samples and gave me a quote, a bit high pressure for me to sign a contract but I did and arranged an install date. They called to confirm the install 2 days before. I managed time off from work. They call the afternoon before and said they could not come since the floor I picked was out of stock. I tried to call my local salesman and he did not return my messages. I then called Empire back and talked with customer service and they would try to arrange for another install date. I cannot lose another day of work. They said I could leave my payment with someone over 18yo and they could install when the floor came in.

The salesman did not tell me that I had to pay the balance prior to them starting the job. Absurd. Never heard of paying the balance before the job is started! I don't work like that. I canceled my order and asked for my deposit to be refunded and now I am a week away from a tenant moving in and no kitchen floor. I will scramble and figure something out but it's wrong that a business operates like that.

We had laminate flooring installed in our whole first floor. The two installers were nice and on time and finished in one day, which I was impressed with. However, this is probably because they rushed the install and the quality of work was lacking. They forgot to nail down some of the quarter round and I later noticed that one of them accidentally left a huge gash in my wall while using a saw to cut the laminate.

A few months later, I noticed that the laminate was warping up at some joints. Additionally, the transition bar into the kitchen looks horrendous. Glue had seeped out onto the floor and the bar has shifted and the layer of "wood" look is peeling and cracking off of the bar exposing the laminate core. When the salesman sold us these floors, he said they were pet and wear-proof, which is a complete lie.

After an inspector finally came out - they showed up weeks after they were supposed to randomly at my house (thankfully I was home) - it took weeks for the customer service rep to get back to me. The results of the inspection were that I was cleaning the floors wrong. I was "mopping them" instead of cleaning them with a dry cloth and spray. I have NO idea where they got this information because if he had even asked, I would have gladly showed them the expensive DRY microfiber mop and LAMINATE floor SPRAY cleaner that I use to clean those floors. They told me I have to pay $2000 to fix it because of this "incorrect" cleaning, for which this accusation was pulled literally out of thin air.

I am extremely dissatisfied and angry, especially since I feel that I overpaid for the floors in the first place. The salesman was extremely pushy and threatened to leave when we would not pay the ridiculous amount that he suggested. When we finally agreed to "help him out" by paying for recarpeting our bedroom, we were able to settle at an amount finally, that I also feel was too much money. It was an overall excruciating experience, as he was at our house for over 3 hours. Overall this experience is something I would not wish on anyone, and now we are stuck with ** damaged floors because of a rushed install and ** customer service. Pictures and order # to come.

Our carpet installation went well enough, but we had 4 missed appointments to have our baseboards installed, and the 5th appointment resulted in the contractor not having enough materials to complete the job, and the baseboards used were the cheapest quality I have ever seen. We assumed that the baseboards would be similar in quality to the carpet we purchased (above average), but the contractor simply nailed the boards to the wall, filled the gaps with caulk and called it good. The second contractor didn't install the boards flush with one another, pieced multiple segments together to fill a wall, and wasn't able to do any work on our stairway so we are still incomplete with our order well over month since we originally ordered the work.

Our local office (Washington/Baltimore) has never called about follow ups, missed appointments, damage done to our home, or work yet to be completed as annotated on paperwork signed with the contractor. I have requested action from the corporate level through Facebook/email and am very disappointed in the experience.

The installers were excellent and I would recommend them to anybody. They really know what they're doing and they enjoy doing it. It was a great experience.

We just moved to our house and Empire Today did a good job with my new laminate wood floor in the kitchen and dining, carpeting throughout the living hallway, two bedrooms, and the game room. We also got the ceramic-like floor in the bathroom. I considered other places but I didn't want to sit with a salesperson so I went with Empire Today. I probably paid more than I should have but I got the best carpeting and padding underneath the laminate because our son needs extra cushion since walks on his knees. However, I noticed a place in the kitchen floor, where the laminate wood is pulled apart. I'm getting coffee and crumbs down in there. So, I just used the toothpick to get it out. But other than that, I'm happy with Empire Today.

We had Empire Today put in carpet last year and it's holding up pretty well. We love it. This time we had them install vinyl-snap wooden floor in our basement. I considered other brands before I went with Empire and they were better with their price and was willing to work with us. We went back and forth as far as negotiating the price a little bit. The quality was also comparable. We also worked with Randy, who was our sales rep last year, and we were pleased with it. We knew what we were expecting out of the job. We are still in the middle of finishing our basement and I think the vinyl floor will be great for the basement since if we do get flooding, it won't be as big as a carpet would be. Empire was also quick so it wasn't super inconvenient to have the installation.

I am writing this to express my disappointment in the Empire Company over the last year. Our initial encounter with Empire, in June of 2004, was not only a pleasant experience but a very professional one as well. The representative explained everything, gave us a copy of the full contract with dates and a receipt. The preinstallation checklist was complete and the carpet that was installed continues to serve us well in one of the rooms and we have never had to have anyone come to fix it in 13 years. This installation was $1600. Our next experience with Empire was in June of 2015. This representative was also professional and helpful. We were beginning the process of remodeling our house for possible sale. We had been so pleased with our earlier encounter that we contracted for two bedrooms, a hallway, stairs and two closets for carpeting.

The representative showed us a new product for the bathrooms and it was so impressive we contracted for those rooms also. Again, a full copy of the contract was presented to us along with a full disclosure. This installation was $5000. The carpeting was installed and it looked very nice, therefore, six days later we had Empire come back and complete the upstairs with carpeting in the last bedroom for another $954. Here ends our pleasant encounters with Empire. The previous installation of June 2015 began to wrinkle. We called Empire and an installer came out later that summer and restretched the hallway, but said that he could not fix the bedroom because it was not on his work order. In June of 2016, a realtor suggested that we have the carpeting in the dining room and living room replaced due to the color. This was original carpeting from 2004 and still looked very good.

We did replace it, however, on the recommendation of the realtor, with a more neutral color. Again, we chose Empire. This installation was $1329. The representative did not give us a contract but said it was on her tablet and she would send it. We never received a contract and the preinstallation form was empty and undated. In June of 2017, the living room and dining room began to wrinkle. I called Empire on June 26, 2017, and they said that they would have to charge me to fix it because it was out of warranty by about three weeks. I spoke with a manager and he said if an inspector came to evaluate it and the reason was poor installation that they would reimburse my inspection fee and fix the carpet free of charge. I explained about the upstairs carpet and he said that the inspector would also look at that carpet installation. The inspector came July 6, 2017 and before he looked at the carpet he wanted to know if I had cleaned it.

I told him no and his response was "Be honest because it will show up if you did anything to it." He proceeded to use a light of some kind to find out if the wrinkling was my fault. He said that he found no fault of mine with either installation and someone would come to stretch it. He also said that I would hear from Tiffany at Empire by July 11 or 12. I never received a phone call so I called Empire on July 18th 2017. They said that someone would call me back. Empire called on July 26th and asked about the stretching. I told the person on the phone nothing had been set up so they set up an appointment for August 2nd 2017. The person making the appointment said that I would get a call between 6-8 AM on 8/2/17. No one called and no one came. I called Empire back twice that day and was assured someone would come but no one came for the stretching.

On that day, I spoke with Richard and Janelle and both said that a message was left for Tiffany. The next morning Tiffany from Empire called and asked if I was satisfied and I explained that it never happened. She again set up an appointment for August 9, 2017. The installer came but explained that the work order was only for the living room and dining room. He wanted me to sign a document stating that everything was completed to my satisfaction. I would not sign the document without writing a disclaimer regarding the upstairs, because he only stretched the downstairs. He said it was due to the fact that he needed more equipment.

When Tiffany called on August 10th 2017, she said that even though the inspector said that the major wrinkles upstairs were also due to faulty installation, it was too far out of warranty and I would have to pay $130 to have Empire restretch the carpet. I told her that I would never deal with Empire again and that I would have a local carpet installer fix it for me. We may even have to buy new carpet due to the fact that the nap of the carpeting in our bedroom is totally matted and flat. I realize this is quite lengthy but so is our relationship with Empire. I am copying this to the Better Business Bureau not as a complaint but so they can have on record that faulty workmanship is not always seen as a reason for Empire to work with their customers. They did in fact follow their warranty of one year to the letter and even went a little farther with a few weeks beyond one year.

It is very disheartening, however, that a company as large as Empire cannot admit to faulty workmanship even after two years and fix something for a long time, loyal customer that had a spending history of $8883. I would hope that the BBB would keep this on file for others who experience this with the NEW Empire. I will certainly be sure that all my friends, work associates and my husband's work associates know that Empire is in the business to make money not satisfy customers.

Worst experience I have ever had. I wanted to install vinyl flooring in my tenants apartment. The salesman came for the quote and pulled up a portion of the carpet. There was some tile underneath the carpet. The salesman said that the tile was ok and did not have any asbestos on it, he took a 10% deposit and ordered the flooring. The installers came a couple of days later. They took a picture image of my check before proceeding with the job. They pulled up the carpeting, cutting it into multiple pieces. Then they called me down to the apartment and told me the small section of tile around 3sf had asbestos and they would not complete the job. Now that the carpet was in multiple pieces so they could not put it back as customer service said they could do.

I was on the phone with multiple customer service reps and the salesman to no avail. The installers left and I was left with the apartment in disarray. All of the bedroom furniture moved into other rooms. I tried to cancel the order, as they had my check, but they kept giving me the run around. Saying the local Boston branch needed to reach out to me before they could cancel the order and get me money back. At this point I stopped payment of the debit transaction from my checking account. The next day I could see that the debit transaction of over $2,000 was being processed from my checking account. Luckily, the stop payment worked and they were unable to STEAL the funds from my account.

Finally, got a voicemail from a rep saying they would install carpet over the tiles. (P.S they did not need to remove the tiles, could have just covered over the tile with the vinyl flooring as they were willing to do with the carpet). I did not want carpet. I would have just kept the carpet that was there and had it cleaned. Left multiple messages to this rep and was told multiple times someone from the Boston branch would be contacting me. Last message I left with the rep I stated I would be filing a police report if the debit from my checking went through, finally got a response. Was assured that the order was being cancelled. Hired another contractor and had vinyl flooring installed and was also around $700 cheaper.

Honestly, I was done moving on, lesson learned until today. Just got off a call from a collection agency for Empire Today trying to get the $2,000+ from my checking account. I am furious not only did they displace my tenants for 3 days till I could get someone to do the install, cost me 8+ hours on the phone with reps and on hold, being hung up on, now they are contacting me through collections! How is this possible. They didn’t do the work or give me the flooring. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE.

The entire process has been a mess and I have talked to multiple people about the situation. Some things are being corrected, others are not. Within 10 minutes of the flooring being put in, we noticed scratches on the floor. There are small chips out of the floor in a few areas. Debris was left outside of our home and the house was a dusty mess from the sawdust. We were told this would be a fairly easy process and it was anything but. Our stove has a burner that didn't work after the installers moved it.

When I go to clean the floor, you can see a film all over places which I am assuming is glue. We have tried getting it off, but it still can be seen when the floor is wet. I called after installation because the chemical smell was overpowering. We were told that was going to go away in about 48 hour. It has been 2 weeks and it still has a chemical odor to it. It is awful! We are being given a small refund for our problems and someone is coming to change the boards that are damaged. I don't think anything can be done about the odor. I would never use this product again and it upsets me greatly that we spent over $10,000 on new flooring that I am not happy with.

The representative of Empire Today that came out was a straightforward kind of guy — no tricks, no games — so I had them install a carpet in my home. But I was puzzled because it appears that Empire sells the carpet and subcontracts the business, so my carpet installation was not done by Empire but rather by a contractor that works for them. I was expecting to see a truck with "Empire" on it, but then this guy pulled up and there was no Empire logo on his truck and the name of his business was different from Empire Today. It turned out that he works for Empire as a subcontractor, but he represented the company well.

The quality of the carpet that I picked was great and I liked its color and texture, but it could have been a little bit more economical on the price. Despite that, everything else was A-okay. As a matter of fact, I've got a project coming up in a couple of months. I need to put laminate flooring in the dining room and a new carpet in the living room. I've had all the other rooms in the house carpeted by Empire and I'm almost in the situation where I'm even afraid to talk to them because I thought their prices were too high. But their prices were a couple of hundred dollars lower than anybody else, so I'll definitely give them a shot.

I renovated and purchased carpeting from a discount house and they had a list of installers. The installers on the upstairs didn't talk to me for six weeks so we had to make a decision about the basement if I needed to put carpeting down there. I watched the Empire's commercial at 5:00 one morning, waiting for the news to come on and decided to give them a call to see what their product would be like, their timeframe and the cost. I talked to a salesman on Thursday and I set up the appointment for Tuesday. They were there about a half hour late than what we had suggested on but I was okay with that because they also contacted me saying that traffic was up from Chicago and they couldn't quite make it. When they came in, they went right to work and installed the carpet within one hour and a half. They were pleasant to work with and they cleaned up after themselves.

If I would have gone with the upstairs installers, it would cost me about $400 to $500 more. I'll be doing business with Empire again and it's my plan to bring them on in on the next house to get at least a bid right from the get-go. I am happy with Empire and they exceeded my expectations. They're on time, on budget and it's a work done well.

For the installation, I was very impressed with the work and they even came out a second time to do a repair. It was all fantastic. Plus, it's guaranteed for such a long period of time against crack and/or fading that was a huge bonus to find something that would meet those specifics. He measured and showed me products. I selected a earthen chestnut product on sale and gave he me a quote of $3162. I remarked that was much lower than I was expecting and was he sure. He recalculated the numbers and said yes due to the HUGE sale they were having. Even told me a contractor was trying to rip me off if they quoted me more for labor then the price he was giving. I was amazed and told him how awesome it was and what a painless experience this was and how thankful I was for such a great company.

I signed the contract and paid my 10% down and scheduled installation for the following week- but told him I was on a tight timeline. Unfortunately the problems started the next day (8/10/17) when "Norm" called me and said he completed the order wrong and the stairs portion should have been separate and it was going to be $2600 more for the project- almost DOUBLE!!! He caught me off guard and I told him I would have to think about it. I called customer service later and have been getting the run around ever since. I have never seen the quote or anything in writing on the updated contract.

The 1800 Customer service will only take my complaint and the manager or owner from the franchise office in FL is supposed to call me back (since 8/10/17 and today is 8/14/17), but no one does. I don't want to talk to the liar salesman. Now I have wasted so much time and effort and I have a tight timeline to get it done. I feel that they are waiting me out for either to just give up or give in. VERY unhappy with how they bait and switch prices and are unaccountable for changing the executed contract after the fact. However, the guy should’ve brought in more than one sample to match the shade. He’s a new guy, so he probably didn’t know that. He was friendly, and he took his time and measured everything right. The only thing I didn’t like was that their prices were more expensive than before. Their linoleum was around $800, now it’s $1000 for even less than what I bought before. The carpeting they put in was nice and comfortable. It looked good and I was pleased with that. Their reps told me to use steam on my carpet and not soap, that otherwise it would ruin my warranty.

I had water damage and needed to get something done about it, and I originally went to Home Depot but they dropped the ball because they’re incompetent. So, I had Empire Today install laminate wood flooring in my whole house. The flooring itself is nice and I like it. But I'm sorry that I went with Empire because I don't like their handling of the insurance portion of the whole agreement. The gripe I have with them is that they won’t itemize the work that they've done so the insurance can pay out. That's poor business practice and absolutely ridiculous, and it's costing me money in addition to what I have to pay out.

The sales rep said that they had to do continual flooring because the damage was done in a specific area, but they can’t replace the flooring in that area without replacing it everywhere else as otherwise the flooring won’t match. But instead of itemizing the work done and allowing for the insurance company to pay out according to the continual flooring, they sent me a generalization which is not working right now. Then I cannot get justice by dealing with Empire directly. They keep sending me the same thing over and over again, and giving me the same line.

I can’t reiterate enough that Empire Today doesn’t deal with insurance companies. The work is financed to Wells Fargo which I’m going to pay in a few days and then I'll be done with Empire unless something goes wrong with the flooring. I need to use the insurance and hopefully nothing will come up with that. Maybe they’ll come up with some other little known, seldom used excuse for not living up to the agreement. I'm very dissatisfied with the customer service. I will never do business with Empire again and I would not recommend them to anybody asking me about getting any type of flooring.

Two guys and a girl came to install the flooring and they were here for quite some time. They were great people and very polite. The materials were supposed to be here at 9:00 o’clock but these didn’t get here until 11:00 o’clock, and the installers were here until 8:00 o’clock at night, finishing the job. They asked me if that was all right because they didn’t want to come back another day. That would've been crazy and I wanted to get the job done. I thought the installers would be running short on materials so I told them to forget the closets. But they actually had plenty of materials — a whole box and four other pieces — left over, though they weren't authorized to install the extra closets because that was what their papers said. But they did excellent work and the flooring installed was fantastic. I might have some other work for Empire. There's still a lot of work to be done and I want to keep good with them.

Randy, the guy that sold it to me, was a sweetheart. There were three techs who came to put my carpet in but they hardly speak any English, though one of them was better than the other two and he was the main spokesperson. However, when it came to paying for my purchase, I had to write a check and he wrote my routing number, account number and everything off to this other person, which I could tell were speaking Spanish. I didn't understand them and I felt I was out on a limb. It was very confusing for me and I felt uncomfortable with it. I told them to put $500 on my Discover. Then, I called back the next day and talked to somebody that spoke English and asked him of what kind of transactions the techs put through on me.

Also, they laid a big table on top of my dining room chairs and one of the sides are completely down and the falling itself won't go back up. So, I'm sitting here with two dining room chairs that don't look good anymore. These dining room chairs are only about a year old and are discontinued now, but Empire Today would only give me $98 for a new one. I spent $2300 for this, so I thought they would do more for me.

Worst experience of my life. Salesman was fine though he said he would email me a copy of my contract and it was never emailed. Set up an install for Jul 7th 2017. Scheduler called the day prior to confirm, installers called morning of install and let me know arrival time... they were on time. Once they were here they started telling me they wouldn't move some of my furniture because it was too heavy... I could move it myself. They also told me to confirm the carpet but once it was installed it was final. It didn't look to me what I picked out. I couldn't confirm it because I didn't get the contract.

Called the salesman...no answer. They ended up leaving. The salesman returned my call and told me it was a good thing that I turned them away because it was the wrong carpet. Said they would be back the following Friday to install, Jul 14th. After that, salesman boss called and left a message saying installers were returning (the same day) with the correct carpet. They didn't show. She said she emailed me the contract again... I did not receive it. Wasn't in junk folder either.

To date, today is August 11th, no call back, no carpet, my house is in shambles because I moved so much stuff to get it off the floor. Pictures off walls. Had to take house off the market because it's a mess. Who knows what sales opportunities I missed. Sent message to salesman saying my order is cancelled. Clearly they don't want my business.

Contacted Empire apparently for the company there is one person in charge of a problem and that particular person is impossible to get in contact with many phone calls from myself were made and no response. The last conversation I had with a rep told me that I was moved up to a priority to hear back from and never did. Also some kind of discount was told to me as well. So basically, yes I am extremely disappointed on the way this so called warranty is supposed to work.. but it's just amazing on how the bill arrives in the mail and how would the company feel if it wasn't paid, probably not because here comes the late fees... We had used Empire before to carpet our entire home and we were satisfied with it. We got them again to install engineered hardwood flooring at home but I’m not completely satisfied. The cost was good and the product has been okay but since we have a concrete floor the hardwood flooring would not be even. So, we get a lot of cracking as we walk on the floor. They fixed certain areas where it was very noticeable that the floor was not level. Then I had to call them back because in one of the areas, it was very noticeable to the point where the wood was going down. They came back and corrected that.

I should’ve done a little bit more research on the placing hardwood on a cement slab because I think that I would’ve chosen another product or we would have done something a little bit more because I don’t like the cracking sound as I walk on the floor. However, the installers were very good. When I asked questions, they gave me the answers and I really appreciated that. The installation went fairly smooth and was done in a timely manner, as well. Plus I like the look of the floor once it was installed. Empire is a good company and I would recommend them.

Sometimes nowadays, other people are not reliable. But the Empire Today people are reliable and honest with their words. If they expect to be coming at this time, they try to make it that time or they call that they are delayed so we don’t waste our time. We like them overall.

I contacted Empire Today online to schedule an estimate for carpet. The sales person showed up on time. He however parked on my neighbor's lawn and caused a commotion that resulted in the two of them yelling at each other. I invited him in nevertheless. The sale person took measurements electronically and sketched the two areas. He asked what type of carpet I wanted and gave me two choices. I selected one and he went to do the estimate and told me that was no longer available. So really I had one choice. I asked him for the density of the carpet and he told me he did not know it. I asked him the face weight and he was able to tell me it was 64 oz. He gave me the estimate and we agreed to have them do the work. He had me sign at least 6 documents electronically and several paper ones. However, he did not give me anything before he left. Not even a business card.

He did tell me that I would receive the documents electronically and the date of installation (10 days from the appointment date) and time. 3 days later I had not received any documents so I called Empire Today and was told I had to contact the sale person. I asked for his phone number and stated he had not given me a business card. They first had to call him and see if it was okay to give me his number. They gave me his number. When I called him it went to voice mail, but he did return my call within 1/2 hour. However, he told me that I would have to call the company to get the e-mail. He no longer had access to it. So the next day I called Empire Today again and asked for the contract to be e-mailed to me. I was told that the e-mail would be sent in 1 - 3 business days. I inquired why it took this long and was told it was "their" procedure.

After I hung up I was still not sure I had made the right decision. I tried to find the carpet he had sold me to find out more specifications for it. After much searching I found the Pleasant Valley carpet listed on the Empire Today website only under warranty and discovered it was manufactured by Phenix. However when you go to the Phenix website there is no such carpet listed. The next day my husband received a voice mail from the installer asking to return the call and confirm the installation. I had asked the salesman to only use that number if they were not able to reach me. I had not received any call regarding the installation. I called the number left by the installer and was told the same appointment date but was told they would call me between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. on that date to let me know what time they would arrive to do the installation.

I asked for a smaller time frame and was told "this is our procedure". At this point I was sure I had made a mistake and asked for the order to be cancelled immediately. The person I was talking with said they would need to transfer me to the cancellation department. I was on hold over 5 minutes before "Davon" answered. He was a hard salesman and attempted to convince me not to cancel the order. Twice he asked me to hold while he processed the cancellation and each time he came back with an attempt to keep my business by lowering the price. The first was a $250 reduction in price from $2,600 to $2,350. The second time he offered $2,000. If they can afford to reduce the price by 23% at this point, they obviously are overcharging their customers. Davon made comments that he would be able to micro manage the installation from here and all would go well.

I stated that Empire Today should have all employees be willing to offer their best not just the last guy attempting to save the sale. I finally had to tell him that even if he gave it to me free I would not take the carpet due to the issues I had gone through in the last 5 days. He finally did process the cancellation and gave me a cancellation #, but when asked to e-mail it to me he told me that he had no way to e-mail me anything at this point. My experience was not that different from at least 10 others in Florida and I should have read the reviews prior to getting a quote. I am looking elsewhere for carpet in my own community with a store front and people who care.

The first few times we called to report this issue, no one called us back. Finally, a live person called back over a week later and scheduled someone to assess the problem. They did not show twice! The third time around, they finally showed at 5:30 pm instead of 2:00 pm as stated. This has been very frustrating and not how to run a successful business. There is no urgency to help customers and when I called on each occasion, it seems as if the person on the other end of the line does not want to be there. Very disappointed with the service and follow up. Needs to improve by leaps and bounds!

The purpose of this correspondence is to express my disgust and disappointment with Empire. For a company that has extensive advertisements on television and stands firm by their mission to please customers, they have really shown me what customer service should never be. My first disastrous experience with Empire was on 7/8/2015 order #** (Owings Mills, MD). After shopping around and getting quotes from different companies to install carpet in my house I just purchased, I made a conscious decision to go with Empire because of the representation of the company over the phone, and in person when the representative came out to give me an estimate.

The initial meeting went great and I was given a date for installation. The installers, contractors that Empire uses and goes with the lowest bidder, came out and had to take cable wiring off of various parts of my wall throughout my house. After the carpet was installed, the gentleman informed me he was finished and asked me to sign some documents. Prior to signing the documents, I informed him I wanted to see the work that was done.

As I checked out each of the rooms, I noticed that the wiring, that was removed by Empire, was still hanging. I asked the gentleman if he was going to finish the work by placing the wires back where he found them, and he informed me that he would not. I could not understand his resistance, for he was the one that removed these wires. I asked him again to please put all the wiring back as he found it and he again said he wasn’t doing it. At this point I became upset and told him to get out of my house. I called Empire and informed them of this unprofessional behavior by a contractor they hired and told them that my install was not complete. Of course, they apologized for this experience and tried to send the installer back continuing to apologize. After that experience, I vowed I would not utilize Empire again.

Although I had a tumultuous experience the first time, I decided to give Empire another chance. I again shopped around for quotes on replacing my kitchen floors and because of the promises from the salesperson, I put my faith in Empire, unfortunately, again (order #**). The salesperson took measurements and gave me a price and date for installation after receiving my 10% down payment.

The day of the installation, I took off from work (losing money for the day), disconnected my gas stove, and disconnected my refrigerator placing the food items in a couple of coolers prior to the installers’ arrival. The installers arrived and were professional upon greeting me. Within a few minutes of their arrival, I noticed them looking at the floor and discussing something in Spanish. Shortly after I was informed that they were not going to be able to perform the installation because of an issue they observed, within minutes, with my sub-floor. Of course, this issue was going to cost me a significant amount of extra money. The installers stated that this was something the salesperson should have noticed and factored in with the estimate. I lost money for the day, had to reconnect my refrigerator, and lost various food items all for nothing.

As a consumer I just thought you should know that I have never experienced such an unprofessional inconsistent company in my life. Your attention to detail is horrible and all your company seems to care about is completing a sale. The sales personnel only cares about getting that commitment and could care less about the ending result. I was the fool for giving your company a second chance and I will inform everybody within my sub-division about my experience. This is a terrible representation of your company and your company as a whole should be ashamed.

However, there were a couple of little snafus on the installation but she helped make sure that everything got done. It had to be different crews and there was a sequence and they said that the carpet had to go last. But when doing a whole house installation, it would have been nice if Empire Today had crews that had people that did ceramic tile, wood, and carpet, instead of it being done after the house had been torn up for a couple months already. Because by then, you just want to get it over with. Nevertheless, the installation was great.

After shopping several places I put my trust in my local Rep. He was kind and experienced, but this is where the review go south. I did not take on the first appointment, received an offer from Corporate to complete my special offer and receive a discount. Well, after 30 minutes my discount was a whopping 34 dollars. I went forward with the install and everything was ok, until I found out that I had to move my stove and turn the gas off myself. Long story short I removed a toilet and a sink thinking that this was my only items to remove. Now the company said they wanted more. Customer service was slow to call back and did not keep their promises. I have lost faith in this company, and tell people to be aware of potential issues.

I was then told by a customer service representative on August 4th that a free re-stretch was going to be offered to me and that the local market in Atlanta was working out the details, and that a manager would call me back within 24 hours.

I finally received a call from Michelle at phone number 866-588-2306 ext. ** who identified herself as a manager and told me they could complete the repairs at a discounted rate. I have now tried to call their main customer service number to be connected to their corporate office and have been disconnected several times. Stay away, they do not stand by their products or service and their customer service is poor.

I have purchased flooring from Empire Today in 2 different cities and NEVER experienced what I endured in North Carolina. I contacted Empire Today for new hardwood flooring and the salesman came out to show me their offerings within the designated timeframe. The salesman asked for $50 deposit and then full payment when the installer arrives given I was paying cash. The installers arrived and I paid the balance with a check. The installers went out to their truck for 1.5 hours and came back in the house stating 'the system was slow' and returned the check to me as a receipt. They proceeded with the installation of the floor.

After the 1st day, they started to have issues with the size of my steps and I had to call the salesman twice. Each time he promised to come out to the house within the hour and showed up 2 hours later. The installers spoke little English and struggled to articulate their concerns. Anyway, when the salesman showed up the last time, he gave me 2 numbers of individuals to call to handle repayment of a picture that was broken by the installers. He even supplied their email addresses. Of course, NO RESPONSE from those individuals. I ended up calling customer service to get a claim started.

Now the fun begins - I went on vacation which the salesman knew. I got a couple of calls while on vacation stating that the installers made a mistake in giving me back the check and when I return from vacation, they wanted to pick up the check. Fine. While still on vacation, I was contacted again asking me if they could come to collect the check. I explained I am still on vacation and it will wait until I return. I was then told, "you won't get your money for the picture until your balance is paid." Finally, the same woman called me with an attitude asking me if I was ready - which I replied yes, but to have the installer contact me directly as I will not sit around waiting for them to show up as we had to do with the salesman.

4 more days passed and finally the installer contacts me and he picks up the check on the same day! Empire Today processed the check on 0714 and it cleared my account 0717. Today is 08/07 and I have yet to receive my money back for the broken picture either by check or credit card. Tonight I was told, "well if you paid by check - they will issue a check, but oh- I see you paid the deposit with a ccard and the local company is closed and we will have to open a claim request." I have a vacation home that I contemplated using Empire Today to put the flooring in, but I can assure you this is not going to happen given this experience. They need to come into the millennium and figure out how to electronically process checks w/o requiring the hard form.

Additionally, some courses in customer service and honoring your commitments is in order! I shouldn't have to chase them down to issue repayment for damage in my home after the balance was paid in full 3 weeks ago. Viri confirmed they had notations they were to issue the refund when balance was paid in full and yet it did not happen. It's obvious their management team is not interested in providing exemplary customer experience. If you live in NC, find another flooring company. There are some good ones out there that care about their customers based on feedback from friends in the area. BTW - the installers did a great job, just left a lot of dust which was expected. Too bad their supporting team did not offer same quality of service.

I scheduled a flooring install measurement for Monday 5-7. The rep called and left a message. I immediately called back and he says “WHATUP PLAYA!” Either being disrespectful or thinking I was someone else. He asks if he can come now (which is around 4pm), and I said the appointment is between 5-7 and I am supposed to get a call ahead. We agreed on 5:30, so I get my realtor to open the door and me and my wife leave work early to get there.

5:45 rolls around and he isn't there. I texted him and he says “I will be there 8:30-9:00pm”, because he moved an appointment from 7-9 to my spot. What kind of business doesn't inform the customer that they are moving their appointment??? I should’ve looked at all the negative reviews and not made this appointment. This isn't the first time this has happened. I call and they offer a $50 credit. Lol. No thanks, I will go with a respectful company. Stay away from this company. Negative reviews should not be ignored.

Empire Today installed our carpet. We figured out that Empire had a couple of good things to offer at the time that we made the decision. One of the factors was that they had good pricing on the project that we had in mind. Their customer service was good as well. We were able to get someone at the house pretty fast since we had a bit of a time constraint with getting this project completed.

We just had a couple of hiccups along the way. Initially, the measurements taken at the time they did the first consultation was apparently incorrect. At the day when we had to get the installation done, the installers came out but due to bad weather, they couldn't do it, which I understand since it was not under our control. They had to reschedule and I had to take time off again the second time. They came by, started the work, and realized that they were short on materials because the measurements taken were not accurate.

So, I had to take a third day off from work to try and figure out how that could be handled. They had to come back in on a third day to complete it. What should have technically been a one day's job, ended up being in a span of three days. It was definitely not a very pleasant experience, only because I do have a tough time getting time off from work. It put a bit of pressure and that definitely worked against us. For three days, I was taking care of the needs at home, the family and the pets that we have. It was relatively inconvenient but we did get past that last stage.

The price and the quality of the product were good, but since the installation was done on the second floor of the house, we found out that the floor has been creaking a little bit in some spots after the installation. We're starting to find the issues in small pockets so there are just minor issues that we would like to have that looked at, at some point in time. The rest of the experience has been good. We would definitely consider Empire Today for future projects, hoping that things get better as far as the measurement and scheduling are concerned.

We got carpet and hardwood floors from Empire Today. More than anything, we chose them for their price. The carpet met our expectations but we're a little disappointed with the flooring. We have a dog which scratches and I told the Empire team what kind of dog we had. When I asked the salesman, he said the hardwood flooring is durable and it would hold up, but it’s not. We have a bunch of rugs down to try to prevent it, but the scratches can be seen. When the regional manager called us to reschedule the quarter round, I told him about the scratches and he just apologized.

At first, we were going to get something that matches the fireplace a little bit better, then we changed our minds so they had to come back to do around our fireplace for a quarter round. The quarter round looks a little cheaper than what I would have liked and when we put in a new door, we found out that the quarter round was not even stained. It’s like a sticker that they put on it so I’m a little disappointed about that as well. I also know it’s a floating floor, but there’s a couple of places that is kind of soft and I can feel it just from walking across. I didn’t notice it as much until my son came home and said there’s a loose board. But it’s not loose, it just gives a little more than elsewhere. I don't know if that was supposed to be that way or not, but I’m not real super pleased with the hardwood. The installers were great though.

UPDATED ON 10/28/2017: So apparently there is nothing that can be done about the soft spots that are in our hardwood flooring after installation, with the exception of pulling up entire floor, or putting an unsightly "spacer" or something like that in the flooring. Two sets of installers have come and gone without correcting the issue, not agreeing if the flooring needs fixed or not. Two times we took off work to get the issue fixed, and still no resolution. Was told we would be contacted by the company to see if they could come up with a solution, but nothing yet. Worst decision we have ever made on going with Empire. Unsatisfied with the quality of the flooring and definitely unsatisfied with the installation of the flooring. No one really seems to care how we feel about it.

Called Corporate office to express my concerns and was told someone would call me back... That was 2 weeks ago. After the installers were here yesterday, they told me the supervisor would call me to see if we could come up with a compromise on the situation... That was 24 hours ago. At this point, I am so frustrated with the entire experience and have no desire to let them back into my home. We may not get a resolution, but I would never recommend this company to anyone. If anyone I know is getting new flooring, I will certainly caution them about Empire. If there was a "0" star rating, that is what I would give. 0 for Sales; 0 for installation and 0 for customer service!

    Original Review: Aug. 7, 2017

Order Simply Birch plush carpet and carpet rolls brought for installation had same name in the rolls and order forms. To my complete horror after installation, realized that the carpet did not correspond to order name and color and rolls had been mislabeled as Simply Birch. So now instead of a birch color I have grey carpets. The installer refused to let me change the inspection sheet or say I was not satisfied and there has been a big mistake saying it was not his problem and that I should contact customer service and the sales rep. None of whom are responding to our calls or help in resolving the issue! What a total nightmare, over $3000 worth of the wrong carpet and terrible customer service. Would never ever recommend or use Empire carpets again!!

Wooden flooring was installed in my home by Empire Today. They put it in the living room and dining room. I considered other companies but Empire was on sale at that time. I like the color of the wood. However, the wood that they have on the samples didn't look like the wood that they brought here. So, they had to bring the samples back over to make sure that I was getting the right stuff. It was frustrating.

In their commercial on TV, their guys came in and have the Empire shirts on. They look like they work for the company but that's false. Instead, these are private contractors that work for themselves. One guy that came out was worried if he was going to get paid because I didn't let him install the flooring. So he had to come back and he was more worried about his money. They're a private entity so they don't work for Empire. By them not working for Empire, they don't have customer service issues. And Empire doesn't have to pay anybody. They just pay the contractors a flat rate for putting on the flooring and then they go about their business.

I can call this guy on the phone and he can put any floor I want to. But Empire doesn't want that. They all want to have a private contractor. So Empire doesn't have to pay vacation time, sick time and offering them a pension. But Empire needs to change that policy. They need to train people to put on their floors and start paying people to work for them solely. Also, if they're going to put them on TV with uniforms on, they need to come in my house with uniforms on. They're preaching one thing and selling another, but what you get is something altogether different.

But the laminated floor was starting to come out and I wasn't told that there were more laminated floors than just the one that the sales professional showed me. I had them come and replace a couple of the slacks but I wasn't going to continue to do that because I paid for new floor and that's what I wanted. I had to make them remove the first laminated floor they installed and customer service put me back and forth a little and I had to pay extra. But they gave me what I wanted and put down a better floor. They could’ve also reimbursed me with something a little more. But I was well satisfied with the second floor that they put down and I even called them back and I told them that I loved it.

We had our salesman come to the home. Settled on a $15,000 price for hardwood, LVT and carpet. Hardwood installers were fantastic. Took 2 days. LVT installers were 2 days late as original installer didn't show. Finally showed on the 3rd day at 3 p.m. after 23 phone calls to customer no service. Didn't install subfloor in one bathroom. Left appliances in our dining room, didn't bring materials to reinstall toilets and were going to leave at 7 p.m. with no toilet for us to use for 24 hours. Came late next day and finished. Grout is already showing cracks and bubbles, and didn't install transitions in 3 rooms properly. Left a mess we had to clean up.

Next day was carpet installation. First contractor showed, refused to remove floating laminate flooring in 2 of the 3 bedrooms (one was already cleared to the bare subfloor). Said they were going to van to call a manager, then drove away. 14 calls later finally got a local office to reschedule carpet installer. 2nd installer never called, we obtained their number and had to schedule ourselves. Did a decent job with the exception of the transition from master bedroom to master bath - said the LVT installers didn't do a proper transition so now we have a huge dip in the floor and the carpet is pulling away from the entrance. This was after we had to harass the 2nd installer into showing up when he said he would as our furniture was being delivered that afternoon and could not be rescheduled without a $650 fee (we had already rescheduled furniture delivery 3 times due to Empire's inept installation scheduling).

So now, we've made countless posts, emails, calls and nothing but a call back on Monday 7-31 from a "manager" who said he would review the situation and get right back to me the following morning. Today is Friday 8-4 and still not a word. We were sold on the quality product, the fast installation and the guarantee/warranty of service - if we can't get a resolution on week after installation how are we to trust that Empire will stand behind any issues that may arise years down the road? I am very appalled that we were sold products that we had to take years to save for, didn't finance (paid in full for the entire install) and are treated like we don't exist.

The salesperson was nice and did a good job during the sales call. We purchase 960 SF of solid oak hard wood floors at almost $10,000. During the sales call, he told me to call him with any follow up questions and if he doesn’t answer to leave a voice mail. He said there was no need to call him more than once because he listens to voice mails and he would call me back. I had some questions after he left the house, so I called him. He did not call back, so I called him again and emailed him too. He did not respond, so I called one more time and forwarded my original email with the questions and asked for a response or call. I never heard from him again. For a sale this large, I couldn’t believe he ignored me.

The installation went well, but after the installers were gone, I found some 1/4 round base scraps in the area where they had been cutting the materials from installation. The base is compressed paper with a film of white paint or plastic film, I’m not sure. Realizing I did not get real wood 1/4 round base, I am now wondering if the wood flooring threshold trim and trim around my fireplace and intersection with my basement stairs is real wood, or also compressed paper with a fake wood finish on it.

I spoke to a customer service person and she took notes about the sales person, but the installation issues about the 1/4 round trim, thresholds, trim around the fireplace and stairs was over her head, so she said she would have someone from installations call me. I spoke to the customer service person about a week or so ago, but I never heard from Empire Today about my wood trim concerns or anyone else from Empter Today again. With as large of sale as I gave them, I am very disappointed with their customer service and follow up. Finally, the whole experience with Empire Today is pretty impersonal because most of your communications with them is either from automated calls or emails. I really wouldn’t recommend them to a friend and I don’t think I will ever use them again.

Roman showed up on time. That is the only positive I can note. We were getting an estimate to replace carpeting. After he finally measured, he brought in samples. I had asked him to bring in the samples of carpets that are under the half price sale. When I asked about the fiber content, he first had no idea what I was talking about. He finally figured out that all of his samples were polyester. I asked after nylon. He then came back in with some samples of nylon, and then blatantly proceeded to do the false news dance, telling us that no one was buying nylon anymore since it is so outdated (what??!!).

Anyhow, he clearly had no idea what he was talking about. Ultimately, we asked for an estimate on one of the least expensive polyesters- one with a 15 year warranty. His quote came to $7500 and then said it would be only half of that with the sale. I told him that the two other estimates we received from two local small flooring stores were for $2800 and $2200, both for nylon carpet with 25 year warranties. He asked then what I wanted to spend?! What??!! I told him that I had expected Empire to come in below the other two since they weren't on sale and were nylon, which is a more expensive fiber. He asked me if I wanted him to "make a call" to see if he could match the price. I told him not to bother, as there was no way I was going with Empire (disgusted with him, his lies, his lack of knowledge, and of his inflated quote). That was that. Never again. What a waste of my time!

Empire Today installed carpet in my hallway, dining room and bed. The cost was a little bit cheaper. It's not the best of quality but it's okay. I've seen better carpets. The color is okay too. The only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't feel that there is any padding under it. The padding is so cheap. It feels like carpet over the floor. When you put down a carpet, you want some padding up under it.

I had Empire Today install a wood floor in two bedrooms and a hallway at my house. I considered other companies but I went with Empire Today because I had used them before and they were much better than others. The people who put down the floor were very friendly and they did an excellent job. It's beautiful the way they did it and I’m satisfied with it. The new flooring met my expectations and I love the color. I also enjoyed putting the rug down but right now, every time I walk on the wood, it's popping. I'm going to call them up and tell them about this. I would use Empire Today again if they can tell what's going on with this popping.

It was not a good experience! 7/6/2017. First day was horrible, they wanted their money when they walked in, didn't really speak English in fact told us they didn't, but the one was able to ask for a cable to charge his phone, which he used to watch what looked like a video of a girl while installing the floor. They tried to skip using luan, didnt want to use the luan that we were charged for, they said our floors were fine which they were not. I can send you a picture of when we stopped them cause they were just putting the paper or whatever it is over old 5x12 register holes in the floor. We had to call the 1-800-empire number to get them to use the wood or we wanted to be reimbursed for it. They said a truck was on its way with wood.

Told us any more problems to call the phila. number, which throughout the day I called three times to have a recording answer and tell me all lines were busy and I should leave a message and number and they would call back. NEVER HAPPENED. Magically 3 pieces of luan came out of the back of the van so the one guy could start. They kept telling us their boss was going to call us, no one called us. Made messes in other rooms that were not being worked on. They left about 9 pm. Said be back 1st thing Friday to finish, 9 am never heard anything so once again we call the Philadelphia number and guess what, recording to leave number. So I called the empire number again, talked to someone, told her what was going on, was put on hold. When she came back said they were loading and leaving soon, should be there in about 1-11/2. Eventually got a phone call that they had to stop at home depot to pick-up supplies. Really???

My husband made me leave cause this whole thing was causing me to be so stressed. So our daughter gets me to leave, about an hour later I receive a call saying that the check is no good. I call the bank, they tell me that no one's even tried to run the check and to have empire call them. Meanwhile empire is saying that if they try to run the check again they will have to pay a fee. So I come back home (at this point I've lost it, started telling them to just take the floor out and leave), I take the one guy to the bank and they give him a certified check. We go back to the house and my husband gets me to leave again. So about 4 hours later we come back and they're still not done. Finished I think about 6. So the floor is done looks good till while cleaning over the weekend I found a cut in the floor. This is like a never ending nightmare!

I have pictures from some of the things that they said didn't need fixed that we insisted they use the luan that we paid for but did not bring to use. Also a picture of the cut in the floor, that will now not be moisture resistant. I sorry but you asked. I would not recommend this experience to anyone else... Once they received the short review (their character count that they allowed was very little) they called us but we missed the call. So we call back wait on hold for someone to pick up because they are experiencing high call volume, 15 minutes later a woman answers and asks me to hold a minute, incredibly they transferred my call to the Philadelphia number to once again be told to "leave name, number, and message and they will call you back." We're beginning to think this all some stupid joke.

Quick update. I had called them again last week, and told them what was going on and ask to speak to someone in charge. The gentleman took my name, my number. I have his name and he said he would pass it along to the president of the company's office. And I should hear something back within a few days. Two hours later someone from the president's office called me and said that he would have somebody from the Philadelphia office call me. We are now one week later and I still have not heard anything once again. Meanwhile just finding more things wrong with the floor. Think they should get ahold of me.

We had carpet installed all throughout my house. Soon after stains surfaced as if it was coming through from padding. We called Empire since we were still under warranty. They sent a company out (that I learned was contracted under them) to inspect the stains. The company ruled it as liquid stains that we did. Mind you the stains were in any room where something large had been sitting, as well as other awkward locations. Not one room but several some we didn't even frequent, which we explained. They said they would take it back and someone would be in contact. As expected we were told it was nothing they could do. Well years later the same prints/stains have spread and our in many rooms. So much so that we will need to replace the carpet again but of course we will not use EMPIRE. They sell you on the warranty and the quality of service but that is not what you get. Very disappointed still years later!!!

I called Empire Flooring to have thin carpet removed and laminate flooring installed. The salesman showed up the next day. He arrived by knocking on my window, not my door. Shaking my head. Ok, he shows me some samples, not many and then quotes me a price for the laminate flooring. I didn't know at that time, it didn't include my vestibule. When I inquired about that area, he proceeded to show me vinyl samples. I thought, well it certainly will have to be replaced with something, so I picked out the vinyl flooring for this small entrance way. On July 1, 2017, 2 men arrive in a unmarked van with no uniforms, identification or safety gear. My uncle had pulled up the carpet before the salesman arrived, so that the salesman can see exactly what was under the carpet. Under my carpet were stick on vinyl tiles and beneath that was hardwood flooring. We had no idea or were notified that Empire Flooring sub-contracts out their installation.

When these 2 men entered, all of a sudden they were making outrageous suggestions that it was unsafe to install the laminate flooring. They proceeded to put a gash in the center of my floor with a huge crowbar and then called the company complaining about it was unsafe to work here! I began to take photos of the floor before they put a huge gash but I went into a major panic because of what was happening here. Empire called me when they were here and told me they would install the flooring. All of a sudden, safety concerns from the 2 men were the topic. All the while, I'm noticing that they arrived with 1. No Uniforms, No Safety Shoes, No Masks, No Protective Eyewear, No Hard Hats, No Gloves, absolutely nothing to protect them when THEY were so concerned about safety!

THEY HAD NO TARPS at all. My house was absolutely filthy. They had street clothes on, sneakers, a nail gun, a huge crowbar. So I decided to cancel and they left. Empire called me as soon as they left and told me they were still outside in the van waiting. I said, "Waiting for what?" I was already having a mini nervous breakdown as my floor was a mess. My new born granddaughter was coming home that upcoming week and they knew that. The man on the phone said I would have to pay for the plywood and the installation. I didn't know what he was talking about. Suddenly, the 2 men return, then leave and return with an additional kid that was waiting outside some Home Depot in another part of the city. So what they did was this in a nutshell. They see an opportunity to damage your home to get another worker on the job, not even sure Empire knows about that part, so the price automatically doubles, after they destroy your floor.

Thank GOD my neighbors have cameras so it was all on film who entered and existed and how haphazard and dirty with all the nails left outside, on my steps in the street, etc! Needless to say how filthy the inside of my home was. In addition, my baseboard electric heater is all damaged and they told me "Oh that's OK, get a new one." If that's what they said. Who knows. They advertise elders entering their room as they move everything and then you enter and everything is just peachy keen. THIS IS NOT TRUE! In fact, it's quite the opposite. They DON'T DO what that television commercial shows you. This is an atrocity of a company. They are very deceitful and actually do more damage by the Spanish speaking Sub Contractors.

I was charged in addition to the small amount of laminate flooring nearly 1400.00 for plywood. Now they are charging me twice for the vinyl in the vestibule. I already paid them 1700.00. But I have to retain an attorney to go to court. I already paid for the floor. That's all they are getting because everyone who did come in to see it actually laughed and told me that Empire is a Rip Off. Also my neighbors thought I hired unlicensed contractors. I informed them, "No I didn't, that was Empire Flooring." Neighbors wanted to know who these 3 guys were. I kept saying It was Empire Flooring. So they sub contract out their work to who knows who. The work is beyond shoddy. Floors creaking, cheap material, charged DOUBLE! I have no idea what kind of floor I had installed. What type of cleaner to use on it. I absolutely knew nothing and still am learning from experienced LICENSED flooring contractors of what I have installed.

Empire Flooring owes me money for all the filthy dirt and dust and damage they have caused me in addition to my mental state. And, by the way, my first grand child could NOT come home to this house because of how dirty you left my home, my couches and everything in here is now in the trash. I suggest you refrain taking advantage of senior citizens, and YES I am a woman. I will have to hire an attorney to sort this out, then we will deal with all the other issues you have caused me. This is my TRUE and HONEST Advice, DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER CALLING THEM. Let alone hiring them. They make more modifications to rip people off when no modifications were even necessary. Run from this company.

Today at 8:30am the new floor delivery arrived along with 2 installers. They looked at my existing wood floor and told us they cannot install the plywood on top of the wood-floor as originally stated in the contract. My husband asked for their suggestions and Nico offered to take off the existing floor then install the plywood. He took one plank out and said "not possible to put plywood on top the underlying floor either." That statement was unacceptable. I tried to call the main number to report what's going on but after 20 min hold for a supervisor, I got a hung up!

I have had Empire Today come to my house 3 times. The first was scary and untrustworthy so I call and spoke with someone about him. I was offer a better deal next time I order. The next salesperson who came out was amazing. She put up with my mother like a champion. Very respectful caring and I felt like she really cared about what we wanted and needed like she was only worrying about us. I never seen her again but that's where all the trouble happened after that. The installers was late then when they showed up they are demanding me pay them up front when it was already place online of credit. The installer told me that he will not be installing until he paid like at least 10 times he almost left. Finally someone at Empire pick up the phone and told installer that it was a mix up. That it was already paid... After that the installer was acting very nice. Once done with flooring I thought I would never do business with them.

After the first sales guy and now their installers being nasty and rude. A couple months later I decide to show around for more flooring. After looking around my mom told me to call Empire again... What a mistake... The sales guy was a scam artist in my eyes... He comes out on July 5 and immediately tells me the offer I was trying to get is a rip off just to get people to call. The deal was buy one room get 2 free. He tells me that it's a rip off not fair pricing and he not even in my house. So I was disappointed and told him I'm not interested anymore. He told me he could do a better deal for me 50 percent off. So I gave him a shot. He price me like 1300 for a room now mind you I paid 1100 for the first room and it has 70 more Sq foot than this room. I put a deposit down anyways cause this was my mom birthday gift and install was scheduled for July 28.

I call Empire the next day cause of the way I felt about everything and they lowered the price for what happened. July 28 the day of install I wake up to hear that the install will not be happening cause of installers call out of work. Empire person told me they was sorry and lowered the price by 35 dollars which was like a slap in the face. She and the install manager assure me that they will make my install a priority emergency. So they tell me they could do it Wednesday August 3.

Today is August 3 and I get awaken again to a call that I didn't want to receive. They call me tell me they will not be coming out again due to they have a limit number of installers and they will not be doing mine install... Is my money not good enough? Like I told many times to Empire I have at least 6 other rooms to get done. I try working with this company. I don't know why they will not. Honestly I feel like I'm being discriminated against maybe cause I don't have millions of dollars. I'm in the working class who doesn't have thousands of dollars to get everything done. This last install was a priority but I guess they had better accounts to take care of than mine. So now I have to put my room back together without having flooring done. Thanks Empire Today.

We got a recommendation from our realtor to use Empire Today and they seemed like a pretty good price. We had carpet installed in one of the homes that we sold. They told us that it’s not really convenient to go full out hardwood if it’s not going to be something we're going to live in for a while because it’s not going to increase the price of the home exponentially. The investing versus the selling isn’t going to be what we would be looking for, so we opted for new carpet. I was really happy with the lady who came and did the bid for us. She knew what she was doing and was very informative and helpful. She was willing to work with us and be there at a certain time. So, we were happy with that aspect of the process. I would definitely recommend Empire Today. I had the most amazing experience in the world with them.

I needed to replace my carpet in my basement and install laminate wood in one of the bedrooms upstairs. I checked the price of Home Depot and it was at least $2,000 more expensive. I decided to go with Empire (Big mistake). The first set of Installers came to put down the laminate. I was extremely satisfied with the work they did. They respected my furniture and my house and they cleaned up after they were done. I was very impressed.

Now here it comes, the following Saturday, a new set of installers came to lay the carpet. When they left I called immediately and complained about the mess they left the place in and they did not even sweep the carpet. They left their water bottles (6 in total thrown down) on the freshly installed carpet. The pizza box was left. No one even contacted me regarding that. That's not the bad part. Now when they were finished installing the carpet, they called my attention to mold that was in the basement. He reiterated to me that I need to get it taken care of because it could destroy the house. That particular side of the basement I don't really use so I was not even aware of it. Now, when I start calling companies to come in and have my basement waterproof, they said that the installers should not have placed the carpet down on mold.

They insisted that the Empire company should have that carpet remove and replace or give a refund. I have been trying ever since to get this resolved and no one seems to care. They did care when they took my money but now they are so unprofessional. I spoke with one AVA from the Atlanta area and she said I should go ahead and take that carpet up and she will have them replace it. I am as I speak is getting my basement waterproof but will be left without a flooring as I cannot seem to get in touch with anyone from Empire who is willing to help. Whenever, I speak with anyone, they said they are escalating the process and someone will call me the following day. No one has called. I call two days after that and the same thing, I call almost every day and they place me on hold and never return and this is something that they have done to me on several of my calls.

I felt very robbed and disrespected. I don't know what else to do as this is causing me great stress and I feel very robbed. I was so excited about giving my basement a facelift but instead is left with a new mold infested carpet. There was so many other things wrong with that installation but it took a back seat to mold. I would not recommend Empire to anyone. In fact, I have told so many people about my experience. I must say that if I am given my refund or should I say whenever, Empire decide to make good, I will focus only on the first installers who did such a remarkable job. I had forgotten to mention the date of installation which was July 1st.

Having seen local TV ads for years, Empire Today was my first choice when we tired of our very old carpet throughout upper level of home (3 bedrooms, living room, family room). We decided for carpet in the bedrooms (one used as my home office), laminate elsewhere, with carpet done 10 days before laminate flooring. Prices and choices of install dates beginning 3 weeks later seemed OK, but I was a bit put off my having to "sign" a seemingly endless number of screens on salesman's tablet. Screens were difficult to read and were very briefly explained in rapid-fire succession. I was promised I'd get an emailed copy (I did, but the number of items seemed less than those I had signed). Paid deposit.

While we waited for the first install date to arrive I received 2 further Empire emails. The first requested I call them to confirm readiness for install, which call went OK. The second, the Wednesday morning before the scheduled Thursday install, confirmed the install date but noted the installer would call me sometime between 8 AM and 6 PM when he was ready to come. That is a rather long 10-hour window!

My home office in particular had numerous material requiring removal (6 tall bookcases, completely full) which we felt best to move in advance. My entire computer system (I program) was also dismantled. By the evening before the install date we had finished days of moving either to lower (full basement) floor or into area laminate would be installed a few days later.

Just before 6 PM someone representing the installer called to say they could not come that week after all, would Monday be OK? Though disappointed, I agreed, but I did ask why I had received the Empire email earlier that day confirming they would come. Was told they actually were not the same as Empire (i.e., Empire "farms out" its work to parties unknown to me) and they were not bound by anything Empire promised!!

Mid-day Monday I get an automated call (this kind of thing must happen often to require automating such calls) that the installer was otherwise busy that morning, but would contact me that afternoon. By 5 PM we were fuming. There had been no contact. Finally, about 5:20 PM, the same rep who had called Wednesday and had arranged for the Monday install called again to say they could not come. I asked for what she could commit to and was told no commitment was possible; they were completely booked and no way to EVER come!! I responded they were in breach of contract.

Immediately called Empire Customer Service and, after a bit, was transferred to their Cancellation Department. Interesting they have full-time employees just for cancellations! I was offered a discount on the carpet install; ludicrous since their installer had just told me, and I had reported, there was no way to actually schedule my work! I did receive a promise my deposit will be refunded and, on my request, a cancellation confirmation number. I do expect to receive the refund; not worried about that, as it was done by credit card and previous experience indicates the card company does stand by its satisfaction guarantees.

Summary: Numerous reviews on the ConsumerAffairs web site indicate Empire does have many satisfied customers. However, since their only true involvement apparently is to originate work, then hand it off to other companies, it is no wonder a significant number of truly dis-satisfied also exist. If you are considering Empire, first find out the experiences of other customers IN YOUR AREA. When offered a deal by the visiting sales rep, ask the names and contact information of the actual install companies; then check on them before signing or paying anything. If he can't or won't furnish that info, would that not be a red warning flag?

I liked that but they don’t do that anymore. My recent experience was about both the vinyl installation in the kitchen and carpeting throughout the house. The cost is a little on the high side but they did a really good job on the kitchen floor. I really liked the gentleman who did the kitchen floor but not so much the people who did the carpet. I had a lot of problems because they messed up the hallway and between all the rooms, there was a gap so they had to send somebody to fix it. The carpet at the stairs are not tight enough and it's sticking out.

I had carpeting put up in my third bedroom on the second floor and going up the stairs and through the third floor by Empire Today. Those were done very nicely and beautifully. My problem, however, is that they screwed up with the contract. My original contract might have been $1100 and I had been making some payments through the bank because they tied the contract to a bank. But when I got something in the mail regarding the next payment, it had gone up to $2800. When I called the bank, they told me that they need sixty days to fix it.

I told them I am going to stop payments but they told me to not do that and to continue to make the payments. But I have to wait 60 days while they do some checking up on the forensic on this. I bought what I would consider nice carpeting and I'm very happy with the quality and the installation of the carpeting. But it makes sense to me that Empire is well aware of what is going on with my contract, how they screwed it up and why I am being charged twice. I am not happy with them, the bank and the contract.
