Although I initially thought my Dyson was a bit TOO expensive, I now believe it was worth every penny. I have had it for five years and although I occasionally have a problem with it, it hasn't been anything I haven't been able to fix myself. Seriously. I can take that thing apart and put it back together without using tools other than my two hands. That's one of the things I love about it. Sometimes I still wish I had waited for a better sale price but overall, I am still happy with the purchase.

I had an older model and it died after five years. It was a little too heavy for me also. Otherwise, it was good but it should have lasted longer. Company said there was no warranty after five years.

I love it, Dyson does its job better than the other competitors. Deep cleans your carpet leaving nothing behind. It's great for picking up pet hair. I wouldn't have any other vacuum!

Great vacuum... but noisy and jams easily. The cord handling is awkward. I like the bin emptying mechanism... no bags are needed. Awkward to use as a non upright.

There were quite a few times that I would have to hold the button in for the duration of vacuuming because the Dyson vacuum would not stay on. Still, there are other times that I would have no problem.

The Dyson was very good, then the end of its warranty came. Then it stopped working. The plug from the handle unit to the powerhead broke and when we checked into replacing it the cost would have been about half the cost of what it originally cost. So we have an expensive paperweight, we replaced it with a cheaper brand and are very happy with it.

Dyson does work well and gets the deep down dirt out of the carpets. We have animals and it keeps up with the hair. It is a high quality machine, most of our other vacuums died quickly.

Dyson is a trusted name in vacuums and I own the "Animal" by Dyson. It does OK from floor to carpet and you don't have to change a setting. I never run over or ruin the cord, like I do on my newer vac, which is not a Dyson. The "Animal" has been a good vacuum, but it is heavy and cumbersome.

Extension wand was made of cheap plastic and broke on first use but replacement part from Dyson was expedited and covered under warranty which was easy to use (and an added bonus in claiming process provided by Costco if purchased there).

Years ago I remember a friend raving about her Dyson and I remember thinking, "Yeah, right... it's just a vacuum!" However after seeing a demo at Costco we took the plunge and purchased a Dyson and could not be happier! In fact, My husband now has one in the garage and I have both the cordless and Big Ball vac inside our home. Very good products.

It is the swivel kind hard to maneuver because it turns on its own. I need to use two hands. Also had problems with suction, had to have it fixed, less than a year old.

We have a very long-haired dog and I don't believe my Dyson sucked it up and better than my Hoover. Certainly not enough to justify the difference in price.

This vacuum is compact, with all attachments and hose built on-board. It is so convenient, and the suction is very powerful. There are no bags, and it is very easy to dump the dirt and keep going. We are very happy with our purchase. It is expensive, but we purchased it on sale at Kohl’s, with coupons, so the price was reasonable. We have had it for four years and it is still going strong.

I went to use my Dyson (DC33) this morning and when I plugged it in to the outlet sparks and smoke came out and my outlet is now black. I tried to plug it in to a different electrical outlet and it is not turning on. I immediately called Dyson customer service and was told I could take it to a repair shop but I would be responsible for the bill or they could give me 20% off of a new machine. I paid nearly 500.00 for this vacuum and would expect it to last longer than 5 years. Very disappointed with Dyson and I will not be purchasing another one.

I’ve just tried to change the battery on my new Dyson… And it was a complete nightmare!! Firstly I had to buy a screwdriver that fits the small screw!! Why the screws? The second screw was so tight. I still haven't got it out!! Why have they put screws in this… The previous design for changing the battery (no screws) was just fine. Can anyone please explain why they’ve added in this new design difficulty?

My Dyson DC 41 had a bearing that seized and I contacted Dyson for the replacement part. I sent a picture of the exact part I needed. They tried to get me to return vacuum for 20% off retail price for a new vacuum. After 4th email, they told me what I knew from the beginning and said I needed the cleaner head and I would need to call in to order since not able to purchase online. This is a standard part and often needs replaced to make vacuum perform well. Not available to order online?? SMH! Anyway, said it could be purchased for 111.99 before taxes and shipping. I found same part on Amazon for $83. Customer service was not helpful at all. My suggestion is to research your problem online and order from Amazon. Skipping their poor customer service will save you a lot of time & hassle! I will not purchase a Dyson in the future simply because their customer service is horrible!

I just got off the phone with Stacy at Dyson, he listened to my problem, told me how it was his job to make sure I was completely satisfied with my product, streamlined the repair process and told me that if the repair didn't fix the problem that they would replace my vacuum cleaner. As he listened to me, it became clear to him that what I really needed was a new vacuum cleaner. He gave me an exchange number to give to UPS, instructed me to get a tracking number from them and let me know a new vacuum cleaner would be on the way as soon as I called back and gave them the tracking number which is EXACTLY what happened. Effortless, gracious customer service. Would recommend again and again.

I am experiencing the worst customer service I have had. Dyson had me at Hello in 2010 with my first vacuum purchase. They lost me forever. The customer service was excellent back then. I purchased another vacuum about 9 months ago and it was shipped to me defective. It blows debris to the left so I have to vacuum left to right just to keep from chasing too much debris. It also blew hot air on my feet and it is really hot and burns your skin when in sandals. I most often pick up debris as I run over it about 6 times and give up.
They made many changes that are poor changes. I am a month into getting it repaired and am experiencing the worst situation I have ever had with a company. I will never purchase another Dyson product as long as I live and would recommend that others buy another product and not one from this company. I was told when I shipped my vacuum to them that I would have it back in 7 to 10 days. A technician called me 16 days ago and told me there was nothing wrong with it. That it was suppose to perform this way. I didn't realize I bought a blower instead of a vacuum.
They have not shipped it back and I can't get CS to give me a confirmation number. I have waited on hold many times and get no answers. I tried Facebook and was told he called me and spoke with me but that must have been a voice in his head as that did not happen. I don't know when or IF I will get my vacuum back and based upon his original call it will be returned as I shipped it. Worthless. I do not recommend that anyone purchase a vacuum from this company. It is undoubtedly the worst experience I have had and I once loved Dyson but I am filled with so much disgust with the experience. I will never purchase from them again. It is a month later and not 7 to 10 days. I just want to vacuum my house. I guess I will go purchase a Shark. What a complete waste of $350!!!

Purchased a Cinetic big ball animal. We had an early model Dyson that finally bit the dust so we bought this on their website. Worst decision. Pros, Suction (when it’s not clogged). Cons, Constantly gets clogged and you have to take it all apart to figure out where it’s clogged. If you bend the hose even a little while using the wand to clean stairs or couches, it stops sucking. For some reason, it won’t stay upright unless you use a lot of force to get it to lock in the upright position. You cannot roll the vacuum on the back wheels because the head automatically drops to the floor. This is a design issue and was told it’s not meant to be wheeled, which means you have to carry this monstrosity around and it’s very heavy.
I have yet to dump the contents of the canister without having to stick my fingers in it to remove hair or whatever else is on there. Design flaw. There isn’t enough room between the center and the walls so it doesn’t matter how much or how little hair is in there, plan on digging it out with your fingers. What’s the point of attachments if you can’t attach them to the vacuum while not in use? Should I have a separate backpack to carry the attachments? The only attachment that actually fits in the one spot is the crevice attachment. If you try to attack the turbine, it won’t stay on. Eventually the part to hang the attachments on fell off.
If you have a shag carpet or any high pile rug, the brush head constantly stops rotating. It also doesn’t pick any strings up. I went over some red string about 20 times and finally had to bend over and pick the strings up. If you have a low pile area rug, the vacuum doesn’t pick all of the hair or strings stuck to it. Basically have to have a perfectly pile height for it to function. Forget about using it on wood floors. If you turn the brush off, it doesn’t pick anything up and if you keep the brush on, it will pick stuff up but spit and shoot a lot of other stuff around
The giant ball makes it difficult to maneuver this vacuum. The cord is so long, it gets tangled up. So not only do you have to try and maneuver this monstrosity, you also have to wrap that long cord around your arm and let it out as you carry it around. Customer service is deplorable. You cannot get anyone on the phone and have to email them. I got a response 4 days later that I can take the vacuum to a repair center. Mind you, I had just purchased it. Emailed them that I wanted to return it. They gave me a label number to take to the UPS store. They don’t even want to bother trying to find out why. They don’t care. This is the third Dyson product we have purchased, one other vacuum and a bladeless fan. They used to care about customer service. Not anymore.

I purchased 2 Dyson air purifiers in October 2017 hoping to reduce the amount of dust in the air. To begin with I was overcharged by $212 which I had to go through PayPal to get corrected because Dyson's system did not send the correct amount to be billed to my account. I opened one and was not happy with the performance so I opted to return the one unopened. I called and got the return started no problem and took the package to a UPS Store at their direction on November 13th. It arrived at their facility on Nov 15th. I did not receive an email from them acknowledging the receipt of the package until Nov 29th which stated it could take up to 30 days for the return to process. Mind you this package was unopened and still in the plastic wrap it came with.
I sat patiently until the first week of January, still no refund! I called and spoke with a rep who told me that she would send a note to the refunds dept and I would get a response within 48 hours. A week went by and nothing. I called again and got another rep who gave me the same response. This rep emailed me to say she had sent the request. Now I have an email address to a rep. So when she did not get back to me in another week I emailed saying what’s going on? I got no response! Another week has passed so I email her again and I call. Get another rep who says she will follow up with me before the end of the day. Guess what!!! No response! I have now contacted my credit card co regarding this. But I can tell you one thing. I will never buy something through Dyson directly again.

We purchased this Dyson and had a few issues within the 5 year warranty, Dyson did spend quite a bit of time troubleshooting, we had to send photos of the issues we had. A few times during the warranty they replaced parts after quite a bit of time on the phone with them. We are 1 year out of warranty and the material is brittle and broke so that the vacuum is no longer usable. Warranty is up and we have no recourse but to pay to ship it to a repair center, pay to have it repaired and pay to have it shipped back. So if you want a 600 dollar vacuum that will not last much beyond its warranty this one is for you. For us we are looking at other brands that have a longer warranty for the alike price.

I purchase a Dyson Animal 11 months ago and the brush in the bottom assembly stopped spinning due to a cracked plastic part. I called customer service for 3 weeks (the average wait time to be connected to an agent was about 45 minutes) before I was offered a solution, finally I was told my part was available and will be expressed shipped to me. After a week and a half and no part arriving I called customer service back. This time I was told the part was never available and has been discontinued and there is nothing they can do to repair my 11-month-old vacuum that comes with a 5-year warranty. So I asked what can they do about a $560.00 dollar vacuum that I bought 11 months ago that is broken and comes with a 5-year warranty. I was told nothing can be done and they are sorry. Wow! Stay away from Dyson products!

I moved recently to a house with wood floors, and have been trying since 11/15 to order a soft head for my Dyson D7 Motorhead. At first it was ordered, but later determined the representative had ordered the wrong part. There's no stock of the correct part, and no forecast of when it might be available. One representative told me they only focus putting the soft heads on vacuums for new customers, so I guess current customers don't matter. But worse, my D7 stopped charging on 12/5. It took about 3 weeks to send a new charger (with no status available online or in speaking to representatives during that time - one person told me it will "come when it comes").
Then, when it finally arrived, it didn't work. So we took the unit to the local service center on 12/26, and I am now waiting again for another part even though the service center said the part was available. They quote 5-7 business days for everything, I think, but that doesn't seem to include shipping time. Still no status on the website - only "processing". Hold times are extremely long, and responses to emails (if you get one at all) contain no information. Very frustrating company to work with from a service perspective. And meanwhile, my new wood floors remain unvacuumed despite Christmas being here and gone, along with the visiting pets.

The beater head axle broke under normal use requiring replacement of the entire beater head. Months later the canister simply fell off of the vacuum, and the cheap plastic locking mechanism broke. Then the flexible hosing simply started coming apart. This is ridiculous for a vacuum costing almost $600. The plastic isn't even glass fiber reinforced. It's cheap and brittle. The new beater head has a channel behind the brush intended to increase the vacuum pressure, but it promotes clogging and has to be completely cleaned out every one or two uses (depending on humidity). Dyson did a few things right. It does pick up pet hair relatively well, but with parts continually breaking under normal use, it would appear that Dyson is laughing all of the way to the bank with every vacuum sold. This is truly an insult to the consumer and there is no legitimate excuse for such a poorly designed, and poorly constructed machine in this price range.

I placed my order through the Dyson website on 11/24/17 because the promotion they were advertising said free shipping AND 3 free accessories. After checking other places to purchase the same Dyson model, the Dyson website offered a much better deal from a financial point of view. My vacuum cleaner (Dyson Ball Multi Floor 2) arrived within a week and I absolutely love it! No complaints so far on the vacuum itself.
However, I'm still waiting for my free accessories. I emailed them in early December with no reply from them. I then emailed them again on 12/18/17 asking if it's too much to ask for a shipping update?! I was surprised to see a reply email on 12/19/17. "Thank you for contacting Dyson. I apologize for the delay in receiving your free tools. I can see these are currently processing for shipment, however I have also sent a message to our shipping team to ensure this ships to you soon. Once shipped, you will receive an email along with tracking information for your package." Nothing since then. As of today, the accessories still say "processing" in my account.
After reading all the reviews here on Dyson's horrible customer service, I'm not surprised or shocked that the accessories still haven't shipped. I just wish I had found this website and read all the reviews first before placing my order through the Dyson website. Live and learn and all I can hope is that my vacuum cleaner doesn't break down while under warranty. If their customer service is this bad, I can't even begin to imagine how difficult it would be to have the vacuum fixed under warranty. I'm glad I still have my old trusty vacuum as a backup!

I purchased a Dyson refurbished vacuum back in October through Zulily. Reviews of the refurbished models are mostly positive so I decided to try it. I received the vacuum and the back of the handle was missing so I could not use it since the hose would not stay up. I called Zulily, which told me to contact Dyson because of the Dyson warranty. Dyson had me ship the vacuum back (they paid for shipping) and they added the missing part. When I got the vacuum back, the suction did not work properly. I called Zulily and asked for a refund. Zulily refused to give me a refund because they said it was under the Dyson warranty. I contacted Dyson and they told me to ship the machine back to them a second time so they could send me a different machine. I sent it back to them, and I did not hear from them.
When I called after two weeks, they told me they didn't know where the machine was. I gave them the UPS tracking number that showed it had been delivered to their warehouse. The rep on the phone acted like it was my fault for not calling Dyson and giving them the UPS tracking number, even though I sent it back via UPS using the tracking number I had been given by Dyson. Finally, the rep assured me I would be contacted the following Monday, which was the next business day. No one emailed all that week so I called again at the end of the week. They said they were sending out a replacement vacuum and would email. The next week I received the vacuum which again was missing the back of the handle. It also WAS NOT THE SAME MODEL I PAID FOR WITH ALL THE ATTACHMENTS!
I called Dyson today and went through the whole thing of explaining everything again with customer service. They finally agreed to send me the missing part and all the attachments. Now I am waiting to see what gets shipped to me. I am seriously disappointed in this company. This is my first experience with Dyson. I bought Direct. That was the biggest mistake. Said two day shipping and I expected this. Even during the holidays I've had: Wayfair, Walmart, Amazon etc all 2 day shipping completely honored. Even if they didn't it was one or two days and it was at least shipped. I'm moving soon. Next week in fact. They couldn't honor the shipping. Heck, they can't even ship it within a week let alone 2 days. I emailed several times. Called to even update the address. They assured me it would ship within 24 hours. No one called back. No one will answer emails. You literally cannot reach these people and if you do they lie to you. They haven't shipped yet but can't change the address or cancel the order.
We're not stupid Dyson!!! Every other business I have ever dealt with can cancel as long as it isn't shipped and the worst is this probably won't ship for another few weeks at this rate. But the last laugh is on them. When it ships and goes to the wrong address they will be out of a machine. I'm sure someone will pick it up from the address I no longer live and they will be responsible for returning my money or handing over a new machine. I hate that my money will be held for a couple weeks but I was smart enough to use Amazon Pay and if it's one thing Amazon does well that's customer service. Unlike Dyson who will take your money, never ship out then ignore their customer.

Days came and went and I began to get concerned that I would not receive the item in time for Christmas. After jumping through a series of customer service hurdles (both e-mail and phone) I was told this morning that my order had not even been processed, never mind about being shipped. This was after I had been lied to several times by other customer service reps. I told them to cancel the order today, and they said that they would do so. Summary: Do not ever, ever buy a Dyson product through their website. My experience: I made a purchase of a vacuum cleaner on the Dyson website, and even though I was going through my preferred airline's online shopping mall so I could earn almost 1K air miles, the order was still being made directly on dyson.com. The order went through and the money was quickly frozen on my credit card as a pending purchase. Then I received an email later that evening saying that the order had been canceled by Dyson, and if I thought the cancellation was made in error (it was) I should call their 800 number.
I called the next day, and after an hour and a half of waiting on the line, I finally got through to a rep who told me their system had canceled many orders in some sort of glitch. I stated that I didn't want to renew my order (because I had a bad feeling by this point) and she said that was fine, and the pending charge would be reversed within a couple of days. A week later, the charge was still showing as pending on my credit card statement, so I called Dyson to inform them that the money still wasn't released. The rep said that she made a note to their accounting department regarding my issue, but since I had received an email stating that the order had been canceled, Dyson wasn't holding my money, and the problem was with my credit card company, so I should contact them and get them to release the amount back to my account.
I contacted my credit card company, and they said that they can't dispute pending charges; they can only dispute the charge once it has been posted to my account, or I'd have to wait thirty days (!!!) after the order was kept in pending limbo before they'd then automatically dispute the charge and release the funds. So then I called Dyson again to emphasize that this is a Dyson problem, and they need to fix it.
The rep I spoke to that time said that since the rep I spoke to earlier that morning made a note to the accounting department, I should be contacted by somebody (from Dyson's accounting department?) within 48 hours to clear up the matter. So there is almost $350 being held hostage, and I'll be lucky if it's released back to my account a week and a half after I made that cursed order. No air miles, no vacuum cleaner, and I'm a few hundred dollars short, right before Christmas. I repeat: Do not ever, ever buy a Dyson product through their website. Or maybe just avoid Dyson altogether.

This works great, I had recommended to many of my friends. I don't usually write reviews but I have to do this time. My conclusion is machine is good but Dyson’s customer service is terrible. If you have to buy one, please consider to buy it from Costco or Amazon. Don't deal with Dyson directly. Dyson should care more about customer support.

We purchased this vacuum in 2014 after owning and liking the DC15. The DC41 weighs less than the previous vacuum (an important reason for the purchase) and it proved to clean very well. That is the end of the positives of this vacuum. Under warranty the canister was replaced 3 times, for the release button breaking. The stationary side of the ball fell off and was repaired, one of the small wheels the vacuum stands on while upright broke off and was replaced, the cleaner head was replaced because only one side of the brush was turning. Now at three years into the five year warranty there is a small wheel in the cleaner head has begun to come apart and will not roll properly. This makes the vacuum difficult to push or turn and causes it to mark up our hardwood floors.
Dyson calls this a "normal wear" part, not a design flaw, that requires replacing the cleaner head, at the cost to me of $100. In researching this part, I found that after replacing this part the wheel will break again in as short of time as a couple months. It appears that this vacuum is not designed to stand up to smooth floors as it puts stress on this wheel. This seems more like a design flaw than a "normal wear" item to me, as this vacuum is touted as a smooth floor vacuum as well as a carpet vacuum.
I cannot spend $100 dollars on a vacuum that I paid $400 for that is only three years old and will probably require the same part to be replaced in a short amount of time. This vacuum did not last the five years and, I am guessing Dyson planned on, since they put a five year warranty on it. Dyson is off the hook as far as the warranty for the remaining two years. Since they will not repair it, I will not either and I will not buy another Dyson after this experience. I thought they made a better product than this POS.

I want to review My vacuum at this point however since I cannot seem to get it delivered or an expected delivery date I guess that will have to wait. In fact I wish someone could tell me how to cancel my order. I have been waiting a week on my "free 2 day delivery if you order from dyson.com" instead of purchasing in the store like the rest of the world. I have emailed multiple times. Called and been on hold for hours. And searched on-line forever only to be FINALLY emailed that my order was placed with "standard shipping". Meaning delivery about 10 days after it ships. And no they "do not have any idea when it will ship".
I have a disabled person in the household that will not be able to accept delivery so I planned this so delivery (2 days) would be when I was not at work. They took my money immediately and when I checked 5 mins later the website told me I "created" the order 2 days in the future! Yes, that should have been my first clue that I was dealing with a lying company. I know this isn't a forum but does anyone know how to cancel an order with them? They will not respond.

I tried to order 3 vacuums on their website (my first mistake). After placing my order 20 mins later I received an email about Dyson cancelling my order. They gave me phone number to call and I ended up being 43rd in the queue. After waiting for 20 mins and getting to the 28 in line I hung up. While waiting they keep telling you (you can email us at questions@dyson.com). So I just tried to order each vacuum separately. Got my 3 confirmations and 20 mins later got another 3 cancellation notices. I emailed Dyson and told them I want the order and that it was not "fraud". After I finally got a response they gave me the 800 phone number again and told me to call. This is the worst customer service that I have ever had. Their product is just fine but please listen to all those reviews unlike I did and don't order direct from Dyson. It will save you so much headache and time.

Worst customer service I have EVER experience from a company. I ordered a product on 11/24 with two day shipping. There was NO mention that this item was back-ordered or not available to ship in two days. Contacted Dyson via e-mail and waited 4 days to hear back. FINALLY someone responded to me e-mail with a generic "Thank you for your inquiry and we apologize for any delay. We understand your urgency in this matter and please note that our #1 priority is customer satisfaction. We're placing all orders to our distribution so they can be fulfilled and sent out promptly. Once your order has been shipped, we will notify you via e-mail along with the product's tracking number." Waited another few days before calling customer service. I was told the item would ship out in 5-7 business days. That was 12 days ago now, item still has not even shipped or left the warehouse.
Of course I cannot cancel the order, so I'm left waiting. Called Dyson today and waited 15 minutes for a customer service rep (I understand they're busy). Finally got ahold of someone, he put me on hold for another 25 minutes and then dropped the call. Had to call Dyson back... wait another 20 minutes. Finally got ahold of another customer service rep, who proceeded to snicker at my comments about how frustrating it was to deal with their customer service. I get it, she probably has to deal with angry customers all day if this is how Dyson runs, but maintain your composure when you're speaking to your customers and for God's sake DON'T LAUGH at them. Apparently the item is shipping out this Friday (ha), so we'll see.
Again, NO mention that an item is back-ordered or not available for two-day shipping so CALL AHEAD OF TIME AND ASK THEM! Or, play it safe and order the item from a different store and NOT directly from Dyson. I'll never buy another Dyson product again. Annoyed I bought both a vacuum and blow dryer this year as gifts. The customer service ISN'T worth it.

You'd think someone that sold premium products would have stellar customer service. Take Apple for example. Sure their products are expensive but they provide awesome customer service. Dyson, on the other hand, well I've never experienced support like this from such a prolific company. After only 9 months, my vacuum stopped working and only from light use I may add. It took me 3 days to try contact customer service. At first by phone, there were over 60 people waiting when I called first thing in the morning when they opened their lines.
After 20 mins I was still number 60! They give you the option to not lose your place in line and they'll call you back. They never did during the two days I waited. By that time I'd already emailed twice, with no response whatsoever, not even confirmation that a ticket was logged. On about the 3rd day I received an email response asking a bunch of questions. I responded with answers then more than 24 hrs later I received a follow up email asking the same questions, albeit worded a little differently. Again I replied. 24 hrs later I got another email, asking the same questions all over, clearly they didn't even bother reading my responses. On about the 5th day I was told that the power adapter would need replacing and they'd send one out in about 10 days!
First of all, I already told them I had tried a different and working adapter (borrowed one off a friend) and this did not solve the issue. Second, that would mean by the time I received the adapter I would've been without a vacuum for two weeks straight. And then what? I'd plug in the adapter, prove it didn't work, then wait another 10 days for the next part to be sent out? Clearly this company is run by idiots (except for the inventor, clearly he's the only one with his head screwed on). Avoid this company at all costs.

Then the cord to charge the vacuum is splitting and will no longer be able to be charged any day. The roll at the base stopped rolling. We purchased our Dyson (Small Ball Vacuum) from QVC. It was a great price. Almost 1/2 of what others were selling same vacuum for. It was easy to assemble. The vacuum is so hard to push and is extremely heavy. Awkward to push around and does not make turns easily. The main floor head of the vacuum pushes dirt away instead of sucking it all up. Anything larger than dust just gets pushed aside (small papers, a BB, small crumb of food...) The main floor attachment does not clean the floor near molding. The wand that comes out and attaches to the hose is so awkward that it was that, that made us pack it up and send it back. Kind of the straw that broke the camels back. We had the vacuum for 3 days and couldn't get it packed up quick enough. Now I have to pay $11.00 to send it back. Rip Off. Very disappointed as it was a treat for us since Dyson is usually out of our budget range. Unfortunately we will never purchase a Dyson product again.

Dyson makes nice vacuums -- but this is what I have learned: if ANYthing is wrong with your vacuum when you take it out of the box, don't try to work with Dyson customer support, because they provide the worst customer service I have ever encountered. Instead, return your vacuum and try to find one that is perfect -- because you will NEVER be able to get any part you might need. I purchased my Animal+ six weeks ago, and it has a defective handle. Customer Service said the part was in stock and would be shipped immediately. Two weeks later, Customer Service said they didn't know why the (still in-stock) part had not been shipped, but they would ship it expedited "that night."
Two weeks later (after a 45+minute wait on hold), I was told the same thing, and they would send an email that same night with the tracking number. Over the next few days, I emailed their online support a couple of times, asking where that number might be. Today, I called in yet again (waiting 30+ minutes in their malfunctioning phone queue), only to be told that parts *can't* be expedited, but that my order was processed four days ago. However, there is NO indication that the order is in process in my account information on their website -- but then the clerk said it's because my part is "free" -- as a warranty replacement. I pointed out that my three previous attempts to get the part shipped DO appear online (and they were, of course, the same warrantied part).
It was clear that the clerk had no idea what was going on, and I really didn't know if I could rely on anything she'd told me, since it contradicted everything I had been told in three previous phone calls. I asked for a supervisor, but was told I would have to schedule a call-back (by which they DON'T mean that they will actually SCHEDULE a call: that's their code phrase for "they'll put me on the waiting list for a call-back." And, of course, the agent has no idea whether that call-back will come in minutes, hours, or days. (It has been more than a day, and I am pretty confident that I will *never* get a call from them.) So, I won't buy another Dyson, because I simply do not have this kind of time to waste on a vacuum. I would urge you to make sure any Dyson that YOU purchase is in excellent shape, so you can avoid this unhappy experience.

Although advertised as having powerful suction this vacuum is a disappointment. It does pick up dust and dust bunnies. It struggles, or refuses to collect small, normal household debris, i.e. tiny pieces of paper... I mean pinkie fingernail tiny. Super small bits of doggie kibble... I called Dyson, they walked me through how to clean the filters, look for obstructions, etc. I did all they said to do and it still doesn't work. They gave me a few repair shops to get it fixed on my own dime. I now have to drop another $100 on a vacuum I already spent several hundred dollars on to begin with. My wife & I have had this vacuum (Dyson upright bagless pet vacuums DC41) for 2 years or less. We own 2 dogs. We vacuum every 5 days, or try to. The Dyson requires complete cleaning every 4 uses, not just emptying the canister. The brush motor has failed for the carpet portion of this equipment. Dyson claims parts are out of warranty. We have seen a Shark vacuum similar to this product, it is quieter and has much more suction, for half the price. After spending 400.00 for a Dyson, the company fails to stand behind its product. It does the surge on and off thing consistently and I have to stop to take the entire thing apart. An over engineered piece of rubbish, wish I had never bought it. Most of our floors are timber with a number of rugs. The multi-purpose head vacuums the dust but tends to push the solid pieces around the floor and requires at times to place the head directly over the dirt to vacuum it up. The other tool for hard floors only is only marginally better. The machine rolls around the floor quite easily and is easy to maneuver, but the real killer is cleaning the dust out of the machine.
Being bagless is just so much more messier than bagged machines. It holds only a fraction of the dust compared to bagged machines so requiring more frequent cleaning. The whole process of emptying the machine properly is time consuming, messy and if you have any allergies you are in direct line of flying dust when emptying, whereas a bagged machine is quick, clean and efficient. Summing up, I had high expectations about Dyson and their products after reading so many favorable reports in the media about their products. I'm now of the opinion that it was great marketing because in my opinion it is certainly is not reflected in this product.

Having to use a long thin tool to remove lint before you are able to pull the outer cover off. 3. Turbo pet hair head blocks when picking up smaller solid/soft items. 4. Hose and fittings poorly designed in that at each joint, extension point collect hair or pet fur. 5. Removal of hoses or fixtures seem opposite to other vacuum cleaners and it is difficult to remove one handed. 6. Very poor lint collecting bowl. The bowl has to be cleaned out regularly so point 2 is not a big problem. 7. Unless you have a compressor it would be extremely difficult to clean the inner parts of the lint collection section. 8. Price as compared with other vacuum cleaners.
FOR: 1. Very powerful motor that does the job well. 2. Ease of movement. 3. After sales and service for warranty. Replaced a lint bowl after the first one lost a part in the rubbish when cleaning it out. It has got to the point of frustration that another vacuum cleaner will be purchased due to the "AGAINSTS" outweighing the "FORS." My husband paid $500+ for the upright Dyson Animal Vacuum as a Christmas present for me a few years ago. I would NEVER have paid that, but I didn't complain. Very quickly, I realized this vacuum was not what Dyson claimed it to be. I said nothing because my husband was so proud that he'd bought me "the best vacuum ever" - or so he thought. I've kept quiet about my disappointment to avoid making him feel bad. And, it does pick up dirt pretty good off my area rugs!. BUT, I need a hose to vacuum my curtains, corners, bits off the hardwood etc. When you try to use the hose, you have to have the strength of Superman to hold it as it pulls with much force back to its storage location on the back of the vacuum.
Instead of using all that force to pick up dirt, it's like screaming, "put me back in my bed". I've tried everything to keep it from pulling out of my hand, but nothing works. Even when you hold with both hands, it won't vacuum good. I've been using my 23 year old G4 Kirby which has never torn up in all these years every time I need to clean with a hose. But, it now has a tear in the base of the hose, so it's off to the repair shop leaving me without a decent vacuum.
In addition to this upright, my husband later purchased the hand held as another gift for me (I should have told him I didn't like the upright before he bought this!!!). Pretty nifty for a short while, then it started to run intermittently and now hardly runs at all. In reading the other reviews, I can easily believe every word! How does Dyson make such fools of all of us? You just think for that much money, the product must be great - must be the best vacuum out there.
They should have to give all of us some of our money back to go toward another brand! I have family and friends who purchased the Shark vacuum for a fraction of this cost and they love it!! My husband has now found out that the hose will not allow you to use it, so I've confessed all and decided to write a review. We have had a $500.00 Dyson animal vacuum cleaner for a little over 4 years. Many parts have failed during the time we have owned it, especially the power head. The plastic cracks on the canister, the parts have become loose. We originally had parts replaced under warranty. Now they tell us that these defects are "wear and tear" which is not covered, not manufacturer defects or shoddy workmanship. I have never been happy with this item, it does not pick up animal hair as it should, which is the main reason we bought such an expensive item in the first place. Very unhappy, I would never buy one of their products again. $500.00 is a lot of money for a vacuum cleaner that keeps breaking from the start.

I just went to use my DC59, noticed it was flashing red and would not turn on. I called the service rep, he told me it was the battery and offered to send a new one for over $80.00 (25% of the cost of the vacuum.) I have had the DC59 for 2.5 years, love it, definitely the best cordless vacuum on the market. The price of the battery will keep me from ever purchasing another one. When I spend $350.00 on a vacuum I expect more life out it. Maybe Dyson needs to start working on longer battery life. I am very disappointed. $80.00 is a lot of money for me to come up with. I know there are some batteries available on eBay that are a different brand for less money; but, they only have a 60 day warranty and not very positive reviews.

I've had my Dyson DC39 Animal for over a year but I use it rarely as I prefer to sweep. So after very little use I have found that the quality is TERRIBLE. The connecting end of the hose continually cracks rendering it useless. The plastic is extremely brittle and very inferior quality. I am on my 3rd hose, I'm forced to buy the whole unit as Dyson do not supply a replacement connector. I would NOT RECOMMEND DYSON. I'm scrapping this one and buying a cheaper better quality Miele (I should have listened to my husband).

Sent it back to Dyson for repairs, and they sent it back the exact same way, with the exact same problems!!! Just got off phone with them 'cause it's been doing same thing again and they told me I'd have to take care of having it repaired on my own. SHOCKER! Dyson DC41 - This is a cheap piece of 'plastic'. It is falling apart, the plastic breaks easily and repairs are costly. This is probably the worst vacuum cleaner my family has ever owned. I think the product line is a rip off. It's cool technology but designed with planned obsolescence to either break or fall apart within months after purchase. Take a look at the two pictures below. In the first picture look at the thin red plastic pin attached to a lever for opening the tank. Our cleaning person broken the pin putting the tank back on the vacuum cleaner, had to replace the whole tank. In the second picture the cleaning person banged the side of the vacuum against the wall while vacuuming. The plastic shattered and the side cover came off. This is built like a child's cheap plastic toy. I wish I could give it zero stars but one is the lowest this site allows.

Dyson Customer Service operators are not helpful & they do not care about your suffer & satisfaction rate.
I complained that I am not happy with the product as it loses its suction quite often even to suck a human hair or a dog fur. Their attitude is "Borrow a vacuum from a friend or family for the next 4-6 weeks till we see what's need to be done." It's so frustrating to see one of the most expensive vacuum brand. Their Customer Service Department ignores customer inconvenience & dissatisfaction for their faulty item. I believe we deserve a new vacuum or refund for the pain & suffer gained from using this type of vacuum brand. I listed what I felt was negative. Battery life for the price, poor documentation and a few other things. It was posted on the website for a day and then promptly removed the next. I strongly recommend against buying a Dyson Vacuum because their accompanying literature does not explain that the brush feature on the head should not be used on a Berber carpeting. The vacuum destroyed a wall to wall carpet that was only 4 or 5 years by pulling up loops. When I spoke with their customer service department they referred to the statement in their literature that the brush should not be used on "delicate" carpets. A Berber carpet is used in commercial spaces and I certainly would not consider it to be a "delicate" carpet. This was their cop out on covering the damage.
Based on a cellphone picture of the bottom of the head, they supposedly were able to determine that the vacuum was in excellent condition. Really??? I used the vacuum for years on the carpet and then in one day it chewed it up. But according to them, it was a "coincidence". Additionally I constantly have a problem with the cover over the hose coming loose, which leaves the vacuum with no suction. Poorly engineered, overpriced product. Avoid like a plague.

I rarely use the vacuum because the only room I have with carpet is my bedroom. I've already had to repair the vacuum 2 times in 2 years. I purchased my Dyson Vacuum from the Home Shopping Channel here in Toronto Ontario. My main advice to others would be, do not get caught up with the hype surrounding a product. My Kenmore carpet sweeper was old and needed to be replaced, so I decided to pay the extra money and buy what is hyped as the best vacuum around. Big mistake. Not only is the Dyson no better than a vacuum that costs less than half of what the Dyson does, but it's awkward to empty, has too many valves and connectors and definitely does not pick up any better than a cheaper machine.
After this experience, I would never recommend buying a bagless vacuum. It's messier, more complicated and the canister gets jammed up with hair and debris. Much easier to simply change and dispose of a bag. Also the plastic parts of the Dyson appear cheap and flimsy, not at all what you'd expect from a $700 plus machine. After paying top dollar for this vacuum I will keep it, but my recommendation to someone who really wants good quality would be to spend just a little more and get central vac. The Dyson definitely does not live up to the hyperbole about it in my opinion.

TO YOU ENGINEERS AT DYSON STOP TRYING TO MAKE IT LOOK COOL. By the way it doesn't anyway, and make your $900.00 dollar vacuum actually suck up dirt and dust!!!
I bought a Shark vacuum for $400.00 dollars less and have had it for 3 years now and no problems not one. Considering it's supposed to be for houses with animals, it does a terrible job vacuuming up fur. I have to regularly (at least once per room) pick up the floor brush and pull the fur off the end. And the carpet cleaner pulls fur up along the outside and up the handle (guess there's some sort of magnetic charge). It is also hard to clean the canister -- the fur gets stuck all around the inner tube and you have to keep reaching in with your fingers to pull it out. Or grab a kitchen utensil to reach far up inside. Can't believe this in a Dyson. Oh, and the machine does not get back up when toppled.

At the recommendations from friends and strangers, I bought a Dyson DC 33 vacuum cleaner about a year ago. It was supposed to have unlimited time on suction quality. I'm afraid not. I have a $25.00 Bissell 3-in-1 sweeper that works better at picking up dust, dirt, and small debris on both hard surface and carpet surface. The Dyson strains my back when trying to use the very unwieldy attachment for hard to reach and above the floor areas. Very stiff and inflexible. The front of the vacuum is designed to push objects (large or small or tiny) like a snow plow and I end up having to use a broom and dustpan or the above mentioned Bissell.
The owner's manual is a joke at best. It reveals no information on what to do when a problem arises. The cost of sending the vacuum back to the manufacturer for repair or replacement just about covers the cost of many fine vacuums of other brands. I will NEVER buy another Dyson product again. I strongly urge anyone considering buying a Dyson to be mindful of the hype and pay a lot less for another brand that will probably satisfy one more than the Dyson brand.

In addition, the bin emptying mechanism is so flimsy, I was scared I was going to break it each time I used it. And after only about half a dozen uses, one of the wheels broke off. The machine is definitely not worth the extra expense. I emailed Dyson and demanded a refund. They did send a return box fairly quickly, but the actual refund did take some time. The wand has worked less than 25% of the time I have owned it. Part of the reason I bought it was for the long hose and the wand.
The other issue is how is it hypo-allergenic when once you open it to dump out what you have vacuumed the dust and particles flies all over the house or in your face. I tried calling customer service once; I will not make that mistake again. They were no help at all. I'm not mailing this vacuum to you to fix; a $500.00 vacuum should work and not have these types of issues. Save your money and do your research. I should have!

I received a Dyson DC59 Cordless Animal Vac as a gift on Dec. 25, 2014. It had a 2 year warranty. In November 2016, I started having problems with it only running for about 2 minutes then stopping. I called Dyson & the lady told me that it will only run for 2 minutes if it's on Max & that if it is charged on Max, it drains the battery. I knew this was not true because I had run it on Max many times & it usually lasted 20-25 minutes. I also had charged it on Max before & the battery was not drained. I told her that I was pretty sure it needed a new battery. She told me that it was not a problem with the battery & I just needed to run it on Low. I told her fine BUT I wanted it on record that I had called about it before the warranty expired. She assured me that it was on record.
So in early January, it totally stopped working. I called again & this lady walked me through the process of checking my battery, which proved that it was dead. She said that she did see where I had called about it in November. She then told me that they could send me a new battery for $83.14 plus shipping. I was like, "NO WAY! I had a problem with it before this." She then informed me that yes, I did have a prior problem but if I had called in December, they would have covered it. Now, we are only 2 weeks past warranty with a previous problem.
I told her that I would like to speak with a supervisor. After several minutes on hold, she came back only to tell me that there was no one available but she would put in a request for someone to call me back in 5-8 business days. Initially, I was delighted with this wonderful product (DYSON DC65 ANIMAL UPRIGHT) with its amazing, well-designed, roller head that is an excellent animal hair remover -- seriously -- the best ever! BUT this great product is manufactured from brittle plastic that is extremely fragile. Complaints:
2. FRAGILE. The swivel C-clip connector is made from brittle plastic; spring steel would be better. (They could plastic coat it to make it look pretty). The mechanism that opens and closes the perspex flap to empty waste should also be made of spring steel because it is frail and troublesome.
3. NOT TRUSTWORTHY. When standing upright, the upright handle sometimes flops back -- this has caused me to damage some interior walls.
4. FRUSTRATING TO USE. This model vacuum cleaner is almost impossible to use on stairs. Its limitations extend to the tight upholstery head that is difficult to manipulate when in use and difficult to put back correctly when not in use.
5. MEDIOCRE BACKUP. The backup service keeps you waiting for ages if you phone during lunch or tea-break hours. They don't like to hear complaints about their product. A new c-clip was sent out to me one week after I contacted them -- it arrived broken because it was poorly packaged and the product is brittle. No doubt I will have to wait another week for the next one to arrive. In the meanwhile, I have reverted to using my old vacuum cleaner, and have since found that I can get a roller head to fit it that works well.
6. SHORT LIFE EXPECTANCY. I am concerned that when my 2-year warranty expires, I might be left without any backup; nobody has come forward to tell me anything different.
7. I CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT to anyone who values their investments.

Multiple attachments come with each Dyson offering, & these are primarily redundant. However, no color coding labeling exist so that the user can differentiate which one of your telescoping goes to which unit. You see, there's about 1/16" size diff, meaning that they are NOT interchangeable. In addition, the "1st grade" Owner's Manual fails to adequately explain (pictorially, of course) anything beyond that which is obvious to someone WITHOUT an Owner's Manual. It seems like they "fixed" a product that "wasn't broken", in order to hype the "improvements" that are expected over time with ANY brand/product.
The effort to make it "new & improved" has resulted in "new, confusing, more fragile & heavier". Besides that, I've had to rent the house next door and hire someone to categorize/catalog the redundant attachments with the "oh, so subtle" variations in compatibility that necessitate (1) each for my four Dyson products. I have 2 Dyson products in my home and I like them very much. So I decided to send Dyson Cordless Vacuums to 2 people for gifts this past holiday. One of them went well - gift was ordered and delivered within 5 days. So far so good. When I tried to order the second one, things went wrong and continued to go wrong. The company website was down. It wouldn't accept my credit card. I called and waited more than 30 minutes. They took my credit card number and said it was fine - then I got an email saying the order was cancelled. I went on hold again for at least 30 minutes and was told it was my credit card that was the problem. So I used a different credit card. I was told that order had gone through. But it didn't. So I got back on the phone, again waiting for approximately 30 minutes. They advertise that they will call you back but both times I have used that feature, no one ever called back.
The gentleman who tried to help me was very nice and mentioned that the problem was with my credit card and suggested I call the credit card company, which I did. The credit card company informed me that there was no problem whatsoever with my card. So I spoke to the very nice man again and he tried but the card would not go through on his end - I used the card that day for other purchases and all were fine - so I used my husband's credit card. Then I got an email saying the order was cancelled.
We kept trying until finally, it went through. I made it very clear when I placed the order, on more than one occasion, that it was a gift and gave the address for delivery - I specifically stated that the shipping address was different from the billing address. All sounded good. So imagine my surprise when I get a knock on my door and it's Purolator, with a Dyson vacuum!!! I could not believe it. I told them to send it back and then emailed my friend at Dyson. He blamed Purolator. I wrote to service@dyson.ca who wrote back and said that the fault lay with Purolator. I wrote them again and asked for a manager so I could make a formal complaint. The response I got was that it was somehow Purolator's fault and that I was going to have to contact them.
After 4 or 5 emails I realized that DYSON DOESN'T CARE AT ALL ABOUT CUSTOMER SERVICE. NOT AT ALL. The vacuum is still not delivered and I really would love to complain to their head office, but judging from the complaints I see here, it's not a one off. THEY REALLY DON'T CARE. My advice would be if you are going to get a Dyson, get it from a reputable, local store that might give a rat's ass about customer service and if something goes wrong, you'll be in better shape. Whatever you do, DO NOT DEAL WITH THEIR ONLINE STORE.

Dyson DC25 - I was so excited to order the Dyson vacuum. Watching the advertisements... Looked like a great product. Shortly after a year the brush stopped spinning, we ordered a new motor, my husband put it in and I was glad it was working again. Not even a year later... That motor went again! I am so upset with this purchase. I had a Eureka, Hoover and so on, and NEVER had any issues like this. I just bought new ones for the sake of having newer models. I've had vacuums last 15+ years and a hell of a lot cheaper. For the price of these vacuums, it's such a disappointment. I would NOT recommend this product. Thanks a lot Dyson, now I have to buy another vacuum and this one is only 3 years old!!! And it won't be a Dyson.

The Dyson animal (model 492 CA A57891) is just that, the most poorly designed vac for the price, only pro is the bag system. The self-store hose is most annoying. As soon as you turn it on the vacuum is under your feet or making your shins bleed or lying on its side. Anything that is higher than the width of a hair will not be picked up, reminds you of the commercial where the operator tries 2 or 3 times to pick an item up and then bends over picks it up and feeds it into the vacuum. We had a 55 year old vacuum that works better and you are not tired after using it.
Another annoying thing is the cord, when doing carpets it is always under your feet so you use one hand to hold cord and the other on the vac and have to drop the cord to move items as you vac. It is amazing how many times you have to physically pick this heavy animal up to move it around, not any easy task for most women to handle. Parts keep fall off. We have had this item for little over a year thinking it would grow on us but each day we dislike it more. If we could get bags for the old SINGER VAC we would go back using it. I would say technology has not moved forward as ergonomics are concerned.

We purchased the Cinetic for our home. We have a Siberian, so we thought the animal would work the best for us. The dog is in the house an hour or less during the day. Upon using it the first time the machine stopped working. The motor ran but there was no vacuum created. After looking over the machine I observed that the round screen on the pick up head was clogged with fiber from the living room carpet. I next went to the dining room, oriental carpet under the table with hardwood floor around it. The machine clogged again before I even finished the room. This continues to be the way it works every time I use the unit. We have a 20+ year old Electrolux that works well and will go back into service. I wouldn't advise anyone to buy this machine if you have pets, or any living moving humans in the home. I am totally dissatisfied with the unit.

I wanted it shipped to my in-laws' address where I was staying. 5 days later my vacuum still has not shipped even though the website said it would process and ship my order within 2 days.
I now have to change my shipping address as it seems now that my vacuum won't arrive in time. I sent Dyson CS an email to change the shipping address and no response. So I decided to spoil myself this Christmas and get myself a Dyson V6 absolute vacuum. Thing looks awesome worked great for a day very pretty item. Here's what happened… So on day two of actually having the vacuum I go to use it and there's a little HEPA filter on the back that falls off what hits the floor there's some gray plastic that hits the floor with some purple plastic which is the piece that actually fell off and I called up Dyson to see what we do about getting a new motor unit sent out to me.
I explain the situation and Anita was pretty rude to me talking over the top of me not listening to what I was trying to explain and then as I'm explaining something she put me on hold without even asking me while I was in mid sentence. Now I will say from the beginning I was aggravated and angry when she explained what they want to do. But I didn't curse and I was his plight as I could be in an aggravated mode. I've never experience this type of behavior from the call center. Having worked in IT trust me I know this is not the norm.
So they suggest that I put the broken piece and the motor unit drive it two towns away to a UPS store that they have a contract with so they can ship my unit to Paramus New Jersey in order for them to fix it and send it back to me. Now mind you I just paid for a brand new $500 vacuum that they want to refurbish and send back to me. It's three days old. So I would not have a vacuum for at least one week and in the end I paid $500 for a refurbished vacuum. So obviously I do the smart thing to do I threw it all back in a box and I sending it back as an return instead of trying to do a fix.
I was so outraged at their proposed fix. You would think having purchased the most advanced expensive vacuum on the market that they would say "I am so sorry sir we're gonna send you out a new motor with the HEPA filter when overnight. When you receive the package please put your old unit back in there and send it back via our prepaid label." That is what customer support should do. It's what my customer support customer support what I would do in my business. So now I'm stuck with the dilemma of actually getting a shark vacuum or purchasing another Dyson after having such a bad taste in my mouth I don't know that I'm going to go back to Dyson.
I know a few people have recommended the sharks and I had one in the past and I think I'll go back to it. It is just a shame that someone making the most expensive, highest marked up product, it is more about the name like apple then actually having a great product. You would think with all the hype and the high price in the vacuum market has such poor customer service it's a sad joke. I'll get off my soapbox now.

Disappointed, I went onto their website and went through the various steps suggested to clear any obstructions but did not find anything. I got my son to check my assembly for any problems but he was satisfied I had done it correctly.
I saw from the guarantee that I could return the machine for a refund within 30 days of my purchase providing I still had the box which, fortunately, I kept. But here comes the problem - it's impossible to contact anyone at Dyson to get the required permission to return and their return address. This product turned out to be the world's most expensive Dirt Devil. I spent about $400.00 on a machine that died within 2 years and was so weak that it couldn't even vacuum up baking soda on its final day. I purchased my Dyson Animal Ball Upright from Best Buy in December 2014. The claim that Dyson never loses suction is laughable at best. In fact, the suction was so poor that I clogged up every time I used it. I had to take it apart down to the filter and clean it out every time I ran it through a 10x10 low pile carpeted room. I have a 50/50 hardwood and carpet mix in my house. Additionally, my 2 dogs have short hair, but they shed a fair amount. The vacuum was so weak that it was easier to sweep the hardwood because the vacuum just pushed debris around the floor.
Additionally, the canister filled up very quickly. My home is 1400 square feet, but I had to empty the vacuum 3 times while using it to tackle the entire house in 1 pass. The cord is extremely short and poorly placed. In order to use the hose you need to remove the cord. The hose is also short and poorly built. Our house is small, but this machine's hose couldn't reach the 10 ft to the top of the staircase. You're better off saving your money for a quality vacuum, but if you absolutely don't have it, just get the Dirt Devil instead. It's going to give you the same terrible performance either way. If you're wondering, I replaced the Dyson with a Simplicity upright vacuum.

My experience with Dyson has been very good, excellent really, for many years. I purchased a DC25 multi-floor about four years ago. And after reading several negative reviews, I really had to speak up and address some of the issues. I too felt the product was a bit 'flimsy,' when it first arrived. But as a technology professional, I made the effort to embrace the device and understand it thoroughly. The soft plastic is a design choice, and a good one. It is not brittle like other hard plastics. The parts that need to be flexible and forgiving of abuse are a little softer.
"Bin too small:" If you vacuum regularly there is little in the bin. If you neglect your floors there will be lots of stuff to pull up. Carpet is supposed to be vacuumed daily. Who does that? Bin difficult to use. I found that if I try to 'man-handle' and force the bin, it will just not snap into place. Calming down and being gentle, it clicks in with zero-effort.
Same thing with the red bar to release from the upright position. Being gentle and calm, works fine. Getting angry with it does not work. Touch the bar with a toe releases the handle. Pulling the handle to the upright position and another gentle tap with a toe locks into place. Easy. My only complaint is the wand hose. The suction is so strong the hose fights to retract itself! It is difficult to stretch the hose to max length with the motor running. Certainly not the worst problem to have. My vacuum is now about four years old. I still love it, absolutely nothing to complain about, really.

We bought our latest DC25 three years ago, and are very pleased with it, but last week we noticed the brush wouldn't rotate. Thinking it was out of warranty & was probably a worn drive belt I bought a new belt off eBay, but it made no difference, it worked fine with no load but put it to work on carpet & it stopped.
So I rang Dyson Customer Support, talked it through with a nice lady who checked my record, and she concluded the drive motor was just not performing. She ordered me a new complete head, including the bottom housing, brush & drive motor. It just clicks off & the new one clicks on. It arrived two days later, I changed it in thirty seconds & hey presto, good as new. Customer Service was AA11+++, and it confirmed our loyalty was well rewarded.

The hose attachment part NEVER WORKED. You shouldn't have to pick up detritus by hand before you vacuum and you shouldn't have to take the thing apart every other time. I ended up purchasing this model the day my mom's Kenmore canister vac died on us. (We had carpet fresh sprinkled all thru the house and guests were on their way over). A relative told me how "great" this model is and having a dog I thought I'd give it a shot. It was fine for the first several months, then it would make a horrible sound and no suction. Did internet search to locate a fix and ended up calling Dyson cust. service. Very helpful but was talked thru many steps on taking the vacuum apart, clean out areas that needed to be disconnected which are hard to access (and I do have small hands) and a few hours later it was back up and running.
A few months later again with the horrible noise, no suction... Performed all the steps the Cust. Service rep told me months earlier and it did not help. Called Dyson, explained my plight, was told to try a few other things, and that worked. Every few months it is something where I have to stop what I am doing and disassemble it to try and figure out what is clogged or why it is not working. This past July it made a really loud sound and stopped picking up anything. It seems that the air was blowing out the side of the triggerhead instead of sucking up. Once again, took the whole thing apart. There was a slight little clog in 'that' area that is hard to access, put it all together, turned it on and still not fixed.
After mumbling to myself about how much money I wasted on this horrible piece of plastic I called Dyson Cust. Service. Once again explained everything... I even went thru disconnecting sections of the vacuum while on the phone with the woman and nothing worked. Since it is still under warranty she recommended I take it into an authorized service center. The closest repair center is 18 miles away from where I live. The repair was covered and I figured while I was there I would have them also give the machine a good cleaning which I paid for.
So here it is a little over 3 months since the Authorized Repair and machine being cleaned and 3 days ago it has lost all suction again. (Insert baffled smiley face) I took the whole thing apart, there were no clogs anywhere to be found, put it back together and still it is not working. I am so mad at myself for not going to Sears and getting another Kenmore like my mom initially had. She loved that thing and it lasted forever, never had one issue with it. I unfortunately have misplaced the receipt and Bed, Bath & Beyond can only pull receipts up to 1 year back. I do have my credit card statement showing the charge, not sure if there is anything that can be done or not. I am at a loss at this point.

This is not worth the money. I like the concept of the auto adjusting height but the little roller on the head that determines the height gets pet hair and carpet threads wrapped up on it. It can not be removed to clean. It stops rotating and then wears. The entire vacuum head has to be replace. I don't remember the cost to replace this but it was between 60 - 90 dollars. There is no latch to release the handle which also sounds like a good idea, but it is hard to get the handle to catch in the upright position so you can use the hose attachments. Parts are cheap plastic, the red latch to empty the canister where the dirt collects has broken. Wish I have never purchased this.

I have an old DC08 Animal and it is a good job I kept it!!! I purchased the DC54 to replace the DC08 as it was looking a little battered and I was tired of washing out the sponge filters and drying them after. I settled on the DC54 because it was cool-looking and no filters. And because it was a Dyson, I assumed it would be great; WRONG!!! Admittedly we have dogs and tile floors all over, so there needs to be a considerable amount of hoovering up to keep the place presentable, but this machine simply is not up to the job!!! It is useless. The suction is weaker than the DC08 and the dustbin has to be changed before I finish hoovering up the living room.
There is no room in it because of the huge permanent filter in the centre and dog hair gets stuck in it too. The dustbin is difficult to remove from the machine and instead of the top coming off like the old model, a button must be pressed whereby a couple of red plastic sticks then force the bottom open like a flap. If everything doesn't drop out; which it won't, believe me; you are meant to turn it over and dig it all out with the plastic stick Mr Dyson has provided you with. All this for only £320.
I always thought the bagless idea was great, even though the attachments and handles, etc. were overdesigned and gimmicky. It now appears that the whole machine has become a gimmick. The only thing I can say positive is that it might look good in the next sequel in the ALIEN film series. Perhaps they could leave it lying in the hallway on the spaceship for effect, kind of the way I currently use mine. It is hopeless for anything else. Don't do it. Over-hyped and under performing.

We called Dyson customer service. "No problem!" they claim. They gave us a reference number and told us to take it to our nearest UPS. A few hours later, we did. UPS said our claim wasn't in the system yet and they would send it when it was. UPS said they get Dyson for repairs often and it takes at least several days or longer for the claims to get in the system.
We waited three days, then returned to UPS for a receipt. UPS said our claim still wasn't in the system. I emailed Dyson. They said it was in the system, and did I not give them my reference number, and that UPS didn't put in the proper code. Of course I gave UPS the reference number. We called Dyson customer service. I was beginning to doubt who was telling the truth. We called Dyson again. Again they called UPS while we were on hold and told us the same thing--everything was handled and our vacuum cleaner had been shipped. We went back to UPS to pick up the receipt. Yes, Dyson did call the second time they claimed to have called. UPS rep said that the UPS system was not working, and that they had to enter the claim on their system manually. The rep said she wrote down the Dyson rep's name, time and date to verify that that this was not UPS' fault. UPS said this is the norm when dealing with Dyson.

I made such a fuss about wanting a Dyson DC25 Animal that my husband was willing to do whatever it took to surprise me Xmas morning... He made down payment and signed the contract to purchase it NEW AND IN THE ORIGINAL BOX from a local rent-to-own company. Xmas excitement passed and I realized that we'd pay a total of $1708. for this vacuum. After some thought, decided that you get what you pay for... Since was the only way we could afford to get such quality as Dyson, we had to be willing to pay the extra finance charges and other related fees. $1708 was acceptable since we would then own a great vacuum. WHAT A ** JOKE!!! If only I had known. I do not recommend this product to anyone. In fact, I tell everyone who will listen that Dyson is not what they claim to be and don't waste their money.
The vacuum came with a 5 yr warranty and it's a good thing b/c it broke down TWICE in the first year and a half. Each of those repairs were very expensive (first time $170, second time was over $350). Both were covered by warranty and done with no money out-of-pocket but the 2nd repair took nearly 60 days before the vacuum was ready for pick up. At that point, I began to realize that I'd be fortunate if the vacuum made it through 5 yrs but I shouldn't expect much more than that. So disappointed.
Never would've paid so much for this vacuum which is of quite average quality. Maybe even less than average. My grandmother purchased a Shark Navigator for approx $200 within a month or so of when I got my Dyson and has never had a problem. I borrowed hers while mine was in for repairs and found that it works just as well (it was slightly heavier I thought but not a huge difference). When you consider the difference in price, Dyson should be ashamed. I'll never buy Dyson again.

I would not ever recommend buying one base on the runaround I got with the support center. Once it stop working I got the complete runaround. I had to call 3X and each time it was a min 30 min wait to speak to someone and then got 4 different answers and none of them work. One person told me it was the battery, send me one confirmation email then another email cancelling it all within a few minutes. Then the another person said "No you need to mail it in for repairs and wait for them to fix it which may take 30 plus days." Who know??? All I know is I have had it for 1 year and already having problems.
So at $680 a pop that about $56 a month to lease a Dyson. I rather spend my money on something else.. I would say for being a reputable company they have a bad reputation on this site that I wish I would have seen before I bought one. Where you are buying a fan or vacuum from this company the bottom line is they don't care. I purchased a fan which malfunctioned a few months later. Dyson said to send it back to them and once done so to provide them the tracking number and within 24 hours my replacement unit should be sent. Well 2 weeks later I finally received my tracking number that it has finally been sent. Well then to my stupidity they apologized and I believed them so I decided to order 2 V8 absolute vacuums. So after calling them placing my order and charging my credit card I still have not received my order 10 days later.
I got an invoice so I called Dyson and they said the agent who took my order made a mistake by not charging me the correct amount. I spoke to a manager who offered me free shipping which is what Dyson offers anyways but my new charges go from $1259 to almost 1600 although my credit card was charged the 1259. The worst company who doesn't care about the customers and lives off the BS that they feed their customers on commercials. Please beware before purchasing.

I am so upset at my Dyson Vacuum and their customer service. Do not buy any Dyson product. I bought a cordless Dyson vacuum and it was a piece of garbage ever since I took it out of the box. The problem with the cordless vacuum is that it gets clogged easily due to the lack of suction, AND after about 3 months, the motor just shuts off when you're trying to vacuum. I have had nothing but trouble with my Dyson, and when I call their customer service, it is a joke. After I do everything the "Support Crew" tells me to do, then they don't believe me and ask me to do it again. They treated me like an idiot AND my Dyson still doesn't work. How about you just admitting that you have a bad design and I am a sucker for buying it? Don't be like me... go with another brand, and better customer service!

They said their system just does that and that they would push my order through. The next morning they called me and said the vacuum had been shipped and shipped expedited. So Thursday rolls around and I still had no tracking number. I call and I was told the vacuum had not been shipped and it was shipping standard! So I asked to speak to a supervisor. They keep me on hold for almost 20 minutes and come back and say that no one is available to talk to me. They tell me however a supervisor will call me back by this afternoon.
So afternoon comes. No call. I call back again. They said a note was never left for a supervisor to call me back. They put me on hold... again. This time for over 20 minutes and they say again that a supervisor is not available. Overall I have spoken to several people from Dyson and NONE of them have any idea what is going on. Called again, this time over 60 calls ahead of me, so left my number again and waited a few days but no response (an awful lot of calls, right?). So, tried emailing and got a prompt response asking for more info. I responded with requested info but received no further response.
I waited a few days (by the way I was also trying to hold down a job) and sent another updated email with all relevant info. I received a response but Dyson could not retrieve any prior phone or email interactions (very convenient memory loss but my phone had the encounters). So, they claimed the unit was out of warranty and by then it was but only because of their incompetent support system (surely they wouldn't try to deny I had contacted them earlier...oh yes they would!). It is difficult to clear out the cup, and the device gets clogged very easily if you vacuum up fine dirt. I have taken it apart to clean so many times and in the process get my hands and clothes and floors absolutely filthy. The door to the cup will not stay closed and suction is very poor. I even have noticed slight shocks coming from the handle when I operate it. The company does nothing to compensate, insisting there's something wrong with ME not their machine. Forget casually vacuuming under a bed or couch, unless you have ten minutes spare to unclog it, with a selection of coins, sticks, tools you would not normally carry in your pocket. Customer service recommended carrying a specific screwdriver to dismantle the inlet duct hose every single time something gets stuck in it (that's often). My advice - What you need is a plastic sealing strip from a large paint tin to thread through the inlet duct hose. I'm on my third trigger head in just - on two years. Things get stuck in this section multiple times, every use too. A nutri-grain is too big. (I just don't buy them anymore). I've lost count of the number of brush bars they've replaced (customer services explained the bristles were only glued on. I sent them a picture of long human hair pulling them off in two weeks).
To be fair they offered to sell me an all purpose head but I won't be buying anything more. We've got four young kids and anything from a hair tie, to a marble, including breakfast cereals, will get stuck in this thing. Each time requiring a 'sit down and get comfy' operation. The articulate hard wood floor tool just pushes most stuff around. I often use a broom afterward. Moving on to the bin assembly. What a palava just to get the tiny amount it holds out. This was not built for a family. I hate my Dyson DC54 with a passion. Husband has sourced extra paint tin sealing strips so there is no excuse for the kids not to vacuum their room. They are right, it isn't fair.

I have had Dyson for about 17 years. The original animal was amazing, lasted a long time but when I needed to replace parts I was told by the company to just get a new one it would be cheaper. CHEAPER was right! It is built and made like crap. I have 3 long double coated large breed dogs and live in a very dusty area. This is supposed to be for allergy and animals but when you try to dump the thing, the hair etc. does NOT fall out. You have to open both ends and use your hands to take things out. The static is so horrible, and company response is to use a static or cling-free sheet to wipe in it after each use! Plus through one in for smell! How is that for allergy! Then I vacuum every day and cut hair off the beater bar because the hair wraps around it. I didn't mind but I was vacuuming and this wasn't even a couple months but I found because the narrowed the pole hair even got stuck in that and I had to push it out.
Then this last time I went from my hard floors to the rug and smelled something strange, a burn smell. I immediately turned off and checked the machine then saw what at first looked like it burned my rug. Turned out the beater bar melted on my rug in a couple places. I contacted Dyson and they told me to take pictures then claimed it was not a manufacture defect not their fault and only offered to send a new floor head if I sign a waiver. They said it was my fault hair got in motor housing. I said I wouldn't expect to take a vacuum apart after each use and since I was told it was for pets and allergy this is false advertisement. I know on all my dog list so many have complained about the newer Dyson saying they are made like crap and have broken down from the dog hair.

Who would have ever thought that I'd see a vacuum cleaner as a status symbol. Well, I did. I thought that if you owned a Dyson then you were the cream of the crop! Kinda like the Bentley or cars or the Coach of hand bags. Don't make my mistake. Since purchasing the Dyson, we have had to have our house replaced 3 times in as many months. I have had to stop what I was doing and unclog the vacuum every single time I used it.
Most recently, our ball shell cover has fallen off. It is not broken off, it just came unscrewed. It will not screw back on no matter what I attempt. I assume that there was some washer connection or something that must have got sucked up when it fell off. I called Dyson to inquire about how to fix it. Well, the very nice rep told me, "It needs to be sent in for repair. Oh wait... no repair centers near you, it has to be boxed up and shipped to Ontario. Don't worry, we will cover all the shipping costs." Wow! That's great!
So 3 days later I still haven't received my prepaid box, so when you count having to wait for the prepaid box... probably 5 days, then ship the stupid thing, another 5 days, then wait for the repair, another 5 days and then ship back - that's a whole month I have been without the ability to vacuum up after my 2 shedding cats and 1 shedding dog. Ridiculous! I had a vacuum from Canadian Tire that cost less than $100.00 and I never had to unclog it once, never had to send it in for repair once. I wish I never fell for all the hype and got rid of my CT vacuum for this piece of garbage! I contacted Dyson again to tell them about my displeasure in having to wait a month (at best) before I can vacuum again and they haven't replied. We unfortunately own a Dyson Animal. We meticulously and religiously follow the elaborate maintenance instructions/instructions detailed in the voluminous owner's manual. And, we clean it after every single use (because it doesn't work if we don't). This machine has a problem common to this model - a non-working triggerhead. We've replaced it twice. Including the original that makes THREE defective triggerheads. Clearly, this entire family of machines is defective.
At this time, customer "service" is in the process of torturing us. Thus far, they've emailed a 3 page set of new maintenance troubleshooting instructions - none of which worked. A new triggerhead arrived - it doesn't work either. Our new "options" are to pack it up, drive 1.5 hours from our residence to an approved repair vendor, or, pack this beast up in a box and UPS it to a service center. If this is customer "service" then this company should be out of business. If you have another option, take it. DO NOT buy a product from this company. Not if you wish to keep your sanity.

I was & have been to-date, very pleased with its performance as an upright vacuum. Was shocked, especially with the first use, as to the amount of hair it sucked up. However, forget using attachments - suction not strong enough for anything.
Yesterday I removed it from the closet to vacuum and the first time I twisted it to turn on the ball the housing cracked completely across the back. I got on the phone to Customer Service who told me it was no longer under warranty & average repair cost exceed $150.00. Of course they had units on 'Special' that came with my choice of 3 attachments. Well some of my attachments I have never used so have all attachments necessary just need vacuum. Oh but no, Dyson changed design so doubt my attachments will still fit. My options are to get new vac & 3 attachments on Special or Purchase new vac at full retail along with whatever attachments I want with a 20% Trade-In Allowance. You can't use both promotions on the same invoice.
The Customer Rep was very pleasant & thorough but I was boiling. Not Warrantied. Fine. Have had it for about 8 yrs, but my previous other big name & expensive in it's lasted over 15 yrs & we're still operational when I purchased the Dyson. But for Dyson to change attachments so they no longer fit previous models forcing a consumer to also rebuy those items, combined with no allowing Special price & Trade-In value on the same invoice just reinforces their being money oriented over value of their customer.
She then apologized that she didn't have the ability to offer anything else & suggested I submit an email to support & perhaps that could make another option available!! Wait a minute, you want me to take the time to do this all over again & "perhaps" they can help me? No, she should check with manager & get back to me.
So I spent the next couple of hours researching best-recommended uprights by 3 different groups, made a decision & ordered a vac online with extended warranty. DONE & haven't heard a peep from Dyson. Bottom line, purchased top recommended vac for 1/3 of replacing it with a Dyson, (less than a repair also) came with all attachments, & free shipping! Well Dyson you no longer are just higher than your competitors, you offer existing owners no perks or benefit to stay with Dyson demonstrating total disregard & lack of customer loyalty. Bye bye.

Dyson customer service has been extremely courteous and professional and I could not be more pleased with my contacts with customer service.

Dyson DC40 Vacuum - Okay, it's been a year since I purchased my Dyson. I didn't want to write a review until I really gave the product a good try. Well one year later, I'M DONE! This is absolutely the worst vacuum I have ever bought. Next week I'm going to the grocery store and buy a $45 Swiffer as I'm sure it will be easier on my back and do a better job than this over-engineered, over-priced Dyson. I live in a two story house with about 1,500 square foot of wood and brick floors and two small area rugs. I bought the Dyson because I have three small dogs and two big dogs so yes, there is a lot of pet hair to deal with. But hey, I thought a $400 vacuum could handle the job. Because most of the area needing vacuuming is for hard surfaces, so I am forced to use the hard-floor hose and attachment. Ugggh!
First of all hose is so stiff, rigid, and inflexible that you have to use one hand on the front of the hose to direct the floor attachment and a second had on the back of the hose to keep it stretched out enough so that it doesn't continuously hit you in the back side (and I'm being nice with those words.) After an hour with the Dyson, I always feel I've been badly accosted. I don't understand why the hose has to be so darn rigid. Now to the floor attachment itself, all the floor attachment does is collect hair and dust but doesn't suck it up the hose. Every few minutes I have to remove stuff form the attachment and stuff it up the hose. REALLY? I might as well be sweeping with a broom and dust pan. It would be quicker, easier, and a lot less strain on my back.
Bullet Points: Hose EXTREMELY rigid, inflexible and HARD to use. Floor Attachment collects hair and dust which doesn't get sucked up the hose. Awkward to use, not good in small rooms, tips over and dents wall and furniture. Cord too short. Clogs often. The last thing I will say is... DON'T EVEN THINK OF PURCHASING A DYSON. We now use a 20 year old Kenmore we bought at a flee market for $15. It works 10X better than the Dyson and is MUCH easier to use.

I have had the Dyson 35 (now extinct) for 1.75 years. Initially, when reading the material you think that there is a 2-yr warranty. However, there is an extra word that you didn't notice at first i.e.: "limited". As it was explained to me, any part of the vacuum that fails due to wear and tear is not covered under the warranty. I needed a new bin because I guess the valve that comes between wand and bin died. So... they sent me a new bin for free as a gesture of goodwill when I bought a new V6 (the cheap one), soon to be extinct. Good for another year!
I do wish that one of their expert engineers would address the problem of the bin collecting debris past the fill line before you can say "Jack Robinson". Surely they can figure out a way to put some sort of strainer between the suction apparatus and the bin to prevent this problem. It is annoying. Basically, be prepared to take the thing apart every time you use it. Use only dry fabric softener sheets or microfiber. Now that I have two running machines, maybe I will actually have one when I need it!

Let me start by saying that myself, and everyone in my family are loyal Dyson customers. I was given the dc40 as a gift 3 years ago and it had never faltered until September 2015. I troubleshooted with the customer service department for a half hour, but had no choice but to send it in. They paid the shipping. A week later I revived confirmation that my vacuum had made it to the warehouse - but I was never contacted by Dyson. After 3 weeks I had enough and started sending emails that received no response. Then I began calling. They blamed UPS for the item being lost (although I had received confirmation) and agreed to send me out a new one within 10 business days. Not even the same model, a different one of their choosing.
10 days later still no vacuum. I called again. Customer service stated they would overnight the new vacuum and I should have it soon. A week later, still no vacuum. I recently received an email stating that it would be at my home in 7 business days, with a tracking number that links to nothing. My advice? Don't. Just do not. The product itself is amazing but as soon as you have a flaw it becomes a living nightmare. I have a dog, a cat, a boyfriend with allergies, and vacuum that is permanently in Dyson limbo.

I would like to just take minute and say I have had a Dyson animal for the past 10 yrs and I loved that thing! It finally came down to buying a new one and since we have 4 dog we bought another animal, but this time it's the cinetic big ball animal plus allergy. Wow! Its suction is impressive, but the new canister is a lot smaller and this whole "big ball" technology is awful!!! Hard to maneuver around, it's clumsy, and I'm young and healthy! It doesn't lock upright when you're done, I've dropped it a few times already. I wish they would leave well enough alone. I miss my old Dyson.

I have a Dyson vacuum and it keeps overheating. Put new filters in and still overheating. Wish I never bought the piece of crap.

Bought one of these Dyson vacuum, paid huge dollars for something made of recycled plastic at my local box store. Was told if any problems take it back to the dealer. After a couple of weeks it clogged. Called the Dyson hotline and the women told me, they were not sending out a box to return it, but asked me to take it apart on my floor, by removing screws and stuff. After attempting this, I couldn't take it anymore and asked for a manager. In talking to the manager same thing, take the screws and bolts apart on the vacuum, on your floor. I was furious. Never got any satisfaction from customer service, and the vacuum is now in a landfill site. Do not purchase one of these vacuums and forget calling customer service for help!

I bought a Dyson vacuum about 6 months ago and in that time I have only used it about 10 times because every time I turn it on something goes wrong. The very first time I used it, it clogged and I had to take it all apart again (I had just put it together from the box) and figure out the problem. When I finally got the darn thing unclogged, the smell it started giving off was very unpleasant. Since then, every time I vacuum something happens to the machine (no suction, funny smell, etc.). So irritating!! I don't recommend wasting your time or money on this product. So not worth it!
