They are going to replace brush bar to see if that will make a difference. At least they are trying something. Thanks!
Original Review: Nov. 19, 2015
New vacuum brushbar will not stay running on rugs. It will run on carpet, tile and laminate flooring but not rugs. Company offered nothing other than run vacuum over rug w/o brushbar.

Bought Dyson V6 animal on 30/10/2015. On 09/11/2015 vacuum stopped working, called customer service and advice me to take it to service center in Brisbane. Service center told me it take 2 days to fix. On 13/11/2015 they said, "its fixed and will send it to you on Monday." Called on Monday 15/11/2015 asked about post truck number and what was issues. They said, "we change the battery and motor parts." It's really annoying for 9 days new vacuum get broken and they fix it not to replace it with new one. I wish I could returned it and get my money back, not a fixed broken vacuum.

Bought a Dyson vacuum cleaner in May 2015. After asking Dyson what would be best for me as I have lower back pain, painful neck, arms and shoulder, they suggested the DC40. After 2-3 weeks my pains were worse as it was too heavy and very awkward to maneuver the machine so I called to say I wanted a refund. After a lot of phoning and sending a letter by special delivery, which I had no response I called Dyson who said that they could do nothing. I returned this vacuum to Tesco where I bought it from, who were so helpful and polite and I got my refund in full. I was wrongly informed by Dyson that this machine would be fine for me and that it was light and easy to maneuver. THEY WERE WRONG, and I would NOT buy their machines again.

Buying my Dyson Canister was the worst mistake and biggest regret. The cord is short, to vacuum an average sized room in a house you will have to unplug and move it a few times. The canister space is small and you are required to empty it frequently (especially if you have pets or children). If you happen to suck up an obstruction it is near to impossible to free it from the hose. As you move along it travels awkwardly (so frustrating) also heavy and difficult to move around the house especially up and down stairs. It is also very difficult to clean the inside - the part the canister is attached to where dust and dirt build up over time. This machine is really only suited for someone in a condo or in a place with small rooms with no animals or kids.

I have owned several Dyson vacuums over the years and have been very happy with them. But a few months back I bought a cordless vacuum and for the first few uses I was happy with it. But as time has gone on I have become more and more disappointed with it. I spend far more time unblocking it and cleaning it out than I ever did plugging into different rooms. I now no longer use it on hard floors because it is quicker to sweep them. It is only marginally effective on carpets in max mode which means I can only use it for 6 minutes before recharging. And for the first time in years my carpets are dull and unclean.

My Dyson Re-engineered Ball Multi Floor I bought from Dyson Direct for around $300 broke after only 33 days of having it. I may have used it ten times tops. The cheap, red plastic piece that holds the canister to the vacuum and also dumps the canister broke rendering the vacuum useless. I asked for a refund. They did not acknowledge the refund request, rather they asked for pictures of the broken part which I promptly provided. I was finally emailed saying they'd ship the part. I received a separate email with an order invoice (which didn't seem like the description for the part I needed anyway and I questioned that with no resolve).
Ten days later I had not received the part. I again emailed and was told it would be shipped soon. At that point I asked again for a refund as they sold me a useless product and were not standing by it. They said they would not refund and my part would be shipped "soon". Then I received another invoice email that I have no faith in as it is just a copy of the first invoice that never shipped. I disputed the charge with my credit card so I'm waiting to see what happens next. I will never buy from nor recommend Dyson! I will go back to Shark which is what I should've done to start with.

My husband bought the Dyson animal vacuum cleaner 2 yrs ago. The ball broke after 1 yr, now the hose has torn, the bristles are junk and the balls on the brush bar have fallen off. I sent the vacuum cleaner back for repair on the ball, no problem fixed in a few days and back. I call to get the hose, balls on the brush bar repaired and the bristles fixed. They will only send the parts for the ball for me to fix. The other is considered wear and tear. Really inlay that much for a vacuum it shouldn't wear and tear. Not to mention customer service extremely rude!

We had a Dyson Animal vacuum for about 10 years and it was amazing. When it died, we bought another one. Wow, the difference. This one picks up dust and pet hair and not much else. There was a tiny leaf on the floor and I had to pick that up by hand as the Dyson couldn't manage it. The hose with the extension on its own gets zero suction. So I can't get at cob webs or dust in corners. We have only had this about 6 months.
I did file a request for service with Dyson re the suction to see if maybe there was a build issue on this one that could be fixed or exchanged. They never ever responded to the email so let's toss bad service into this review as well. As a note, I also contacted Sears who we bought it from and they never responded either. I would recommend looking around before you commit to a Dyson. It is not the same quality product it was years ago. Maybe we just got the one lemon in the pile. This one qualifies as a broom.... a very expensive broom.

October 2014 received a Dyson Vacuum as a gift and very happy because of the great things I heard. Three weeks ago vacuum broke down, called Dyson. They diagnosed the charger. Said they sent it out by Purolator. It never ARRIVED. I CALLED again to Dyson October 3. They said it had been returned, I confirmed my correct address once again. They were blunt and said they had no control over Purolator, I received no notification. They attempted delivery and they confirmed on October 3 they would send it out again. Last night I get a call from my neighbor that she had received notification at apt 10 (my apt is apt 27) that I had a UPS parcel not Purolator and they attempted to delivery to the wrong address. While all this is happening I have had to go and buy a new vacuum as I have animals and cannot go one day without vacuuming.
Now they will hold the adaptor at the depot and I now have to drive half hour out of town to pick up this part. Great great service. So much for the warranty, I have had to buy a new vacuum. Now has to go and pick up this part and hopefully this is the problem as well as a privacy issue as my information was received by my neighbor. WOW.

My DC28 Animal will lose its suction when canister is only 1/3 full. Dyson people are helpful on the telephone, but end result, get a service man. I had it spotless and filters washed and sun dried, still lost its suction. Then I examined the brush roller and wondered how I would replace it if need be. I could not see how it could be removed for replacement, so I contacted Dyson and was informed that the roller alone is not replaceable, the entire head must be replaced and to be done by a service man. Dyson never revealed the price of an entire head nor the cost of the service.
After my purchase price of $800.00 with tax, and now I am told that I am unable to change out a simple brush roller. All the hype of Dyson advertising such a revolutionary vacuum, I must warn that if you are buying a new vac, look elsewhere. There are vacuums today that the capabilities to clean are as good or better for less than 1/2 the price. Also, I bet you will be able to change out the roller without calling a service man!

I had a Dyson DC14 for about 5 years with no problem. The brush roller one day stopped spinning and not one place in town repairs vacuums so I was forced to go out and buy a new vacuum. Since my old Dyson had been such a great vacuum for so many years, I decided to go out and buy a new one. We went to Kohl's and got a great deal on a new DC65. The tank on this says, "4 times the suction of a Shark Rotator Pro Lift-Away NV501."
I'm honestly kind of baffled by that statement because as I'm typing this, my 3 week old vacuum is sitting in a couple pieces in front of me. This thing does NOT suck up even the smallest crumb. All the brush does is spin and cause crumbs to go flying out all over. The tank is barely filled after vacuumed by my living my room and I still see dirt and crumbs on the floor. I have looked in all tubes and there is no blockage. The filter is spotless. Take this on hardwood floor and turn the setting to hard floors and there is zero suction. You run it back and forth over dirt and the crumbs sit there. I'm pretty frustrated that his thing sucks so bad, (pun noted) and I'm planning to take it back to the store.

The carpet brush on my otherwise excellent condition Dyson ceased to rotate. I contacted Dyson to order a new drive belt, only to be told this brush does not have a drive belt. A whole new cleaning head could be purchased for a little less than £80.00, almost as much as I paid for the beast in the first place. On refusing to purchase a new head I was then told if I was capable of fitting a new motor (I am retired engineer and have qualified electricians in my family and friends) I could purchase the motor as a separate item for just under £12.00. I placed the order.
Several days later a package arrived. It did not contain a motor but a replacement brush. Not even the correct one incidentally. On contacting Dyson again they apologized for the mistake and sent me a free postage label to return it. However on asking when my motor would appear I was immediately told that I could not purchase one under any circumstances but would HAVE to purchase the entire aforementioned head at £80.00. Of course I refused. I then told them I would return the incorrect part that they sent upon receipt of my £12.00. For this I am still waiting. It only took them seconds to process my payment online. How long to issue a refund? My new vacuum will not be a Dyson.

We bought a Dyson DC10 for our apartment and it worked great. 3 yrs later a part broke and it was replaced free of charge and easy to replace myself. We moved into a house and bought a second Dyson, the Animal. The Animal has amazing power and performs better than any other vacuum I have ever used. That being said I do have a couple of complaints.
We do not like how the entire shaft has to be removed in order to use the trim vacuum. It becomes quite annoying having to unravel the cord every time you are vacuuming trim. A simple retractable cord would have solved this issue. My main problem with the Animal? I could heat my entire home with the heat that is generates. I hate vacuuming my home because I sweat like I am running a marathon whenever I use it. It does not matter whether I am in a small or large room. I am typing this with a fan on me, trying to cool down because I just vacuumed my laundry room, and a section of my kitchen. For this reason alone, I would not buy another Dyson.

I purchased a Dyson after the terrible luck with every other type of vacuum cleaner I've owned. They of course lose suction after a period of time and the Dyson people swear by their high quality and "no loss of suction." Ok, so I bought it at a Target store for 500.00 and some change. I picked the animal version because it was meant to help with hair and dander. I have a cat rescue and really needed this type of help. After spending three hours assembling it I was excited to see it perform. I have mostly wood floors but the bedrooms are carpet. The first few strokes were beautiful. It was easy to use and sucked very well. Until it didn't.
The can was half full so I emptied it. Still no suction. Took the thing apart to find the problem. Didn't take long. The clog was right at the head where it funnels the dirt into the cannister. Once it gets sucked up by the head the debris is sucked through an opening about as wide as a pencil lead and around 3 inches long. The clog was caused by a splinter stuck in the carpet. It lodged in the slit and wouldn't let anything pass.
So... in summary... if you crawl around on the floor with a fine tooth comb and pick everything thing up that is bigger than a toothpick it will work. So whats the point. Takes me twice as long to clean the floor and I did better with the cheapest vacuum. That money could have been used to buy a nice rainbow vac or something that actually does what's advertised. It works well to hang my coat on and collect dust on the outside rather that inside. My opinion, save your money.

I purchased a Dyson vacuum and hate it. The upright part keeps falling when using hand tools and trying to roll it from one place to another. The hose for the hand tools is solid and won't allow for bending to get into corners and small spaces easily. When doing floors, it doesn't pick up very well. Our dog takes small pills and the vacuum will not pick these up if he spits it out on the floor. For all the money I paid, the hand tools doesn't even come with a bag.

Polite and quick to answer only after a quick product sorting auto-attendant. All products wear out. Glad they stand behind their product!

I purchased my first Dyson vacuum years ago and was very happy with it. I now own a 2 year old Dyson big ball vacuum. While the suction out of the hose works the vacuum itself is useless. It doesn't pick up any debris from the cleaning head/brushes - not even thread or pet hair. This from a vacuum that costs twice as much as any other vacuum. Never again.

Had an original Dyson Hoover which was super upgraded to the latest one which is horrific. Needs emptying half way through hovering down stairs then need a long knife to clean it out. The hose get twisted when trying to turn the Hoover. The suction is not as good as the original Dyson. I would not recommend the cylinder Dyson I have just abandoned and bought a Nilfisk much easier and doesn't require changing every 10 minutes. I too wanted this for a long time. Finally I got one 6-22-13. It only took two months before I began to hate vacuuming with it. I spent 45 min trying to find out why the suction would stop turning the head. It was a dime closing off the hose every time I turned it on. So as long as your trash is not thicker than a Doritos or wider than a dime it will pass through the head up the hose and into the holding tank. Oh and it has to be at least one inch from the edge of anything and don't plan on vacuuming under anything without the attachments or moving your furniture... I want my 30 year old Kenmore back!

For all claims of superior design, and expensive units, they are designed to fail. I bought this Dyson approx 3.5 years ago, used only for home domestic use, and it's stuffed. They have put a filter surrounding the motor with loose fibre glass lining which is sucked into the motor clogging the brushes, and causing the motor to burn out. Design is rubbish. Summary: DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. Have bought another brand much cheaper. My wife says lighter as good suction. I will never buy anything Dyson Again.

Bought this about 4 years ago and I love it!! With 4 kids I needed something that would pick up food and whatever and for the most part it does that without issue. Bigger pieces of food do need to be cleaned up before using the vacuum, unless you're using it without any attachments and is only the hose. I do agree that the cord could be longer, but I have a large house (3,000 sq ft) and I can do my entire great room, nook and the entry area to my kitchen without any problems. But I've not really had any issues with the vacuum until tonight when I discovered 3-6 cracks/tears in the creases of the hose. Again, I've only had this 4 years. I will be calling Dyson in the morning, but can't find my owner's manual to read the warranty info so I'm guessing I will find out that I have to buy a new hose for $29.99 plus shipping.

I am very disappointed in my Dyson. It seems to require at least a Masters degree in mechanical engineering just to keep it going. Constantly getting clogged up, I do have a cat but my old Kenmore vacuum did a better job. I would like to add that the closest "authorized repair center" to my house is 45 minutes away, and when I took it there I was told Dyson will not pay to fix the problem, even though it was under warranty it was just clogged again. Because I couldn't solve the problem myself I had taken it there, of course. I had to basically pitch a fit to get the problem solved, and they did allow me to ship it to them and they fixed it all at their cost. However would you ever think about where the closest authorized dealer is before you bought one? Word to the wise. And by the way it was clogged again immediately.

1st off, let me qualify that I had/used for years the Dyson Animal DC14 - although not perfect, it was a pleasant experience to use. It finally gave out. I have 5 large dogs that live in our home. My husband gifted me two new Dyson DC77's - 1 for each floor. Between DC14 and DC77 - there is no comparison! Other than sharing the same name - the DC77 is a piece of crap. It is NOT user friendly!!!!! You better NOT like clean hands because you're CONSTANTLY having to use your hands to fish around the inside of the teeny-weeny canister. This is supposed to be an "animal vacuum" but the dog hair and dust push past THEIR ridiculous line on the canister, CONSTANTLY. Also, it doesn't clean in the crevices of the stairs OR along the baseboards, so again, you have to use your hands.
As stated, prior to these two new DC77's, I've owned and enjoyed using the Dyson DC14! People ask me all the time [because of all my dogs] what brand of vacuum I use. Even though I have {had} two new vacuums - I've just purchased two $89 Eureka vacuums (1 for each floor) that have the SAME SUCTION as Dyson and I've junked these crappy vacuums! SAVE YOUR MONEY!

My husband bought this vacuum after watching the demo on QVC. This is the worst vacuum I have ever owned. (Electrolux, Oreck.) It is very heavy and difficult to carry or manipulate. It does not suck up anything on a hardwood floor. And I agree with the previous reviewers, it just pushes the dirt around. The cord is inflexible, too long, and gets wrapped on everything.. I tried to use the hose to suck up ash in my fireplace, and even that got clogged. Finally be careful when you dislodge the dirt from the canister. It blows up like a volcano spreading dust everywhere.

What people say about the suction on this machine is absolutely true: it's the best ever, hands down. However, from the user's standpoint this is the worst designed machine I've ever owned, and I've owned some clunkers. By far the biggest design flaw is that it blocks up constantly. I learned immediately that you can't run over a dime or something by mistake. That's going to take you half an hour of messing around to unblock. Honestly, anything bigger than a lentil and that's it. Even once you've taken apart the hose at every joint, there are parts you can't see or reach (if Dyson would provide some sort of tool for reaching these areas, I could forgive even this).
I've got time to write this because my afternoon of cleaning has ground to a halt. I've taken the whole thing apart (which I'm very good at by now), can't find the blockage. In desperation, I've rinsed out the filter, which means that I can't use the vacuum for another 24 hours while it dries. Other little problems: it falls over constantly as I drag it around (I don't even sit it upright anymore, it will just fall over again). The cord is extremely short: I have to change the outlet location twice in my 700-square foot apartment.
There is a holder for the attachments on the wand but the attachments fall off constantly. There is no point in keeping them there. The canister takes several tries to re-latch once you've emptied it, which you have to pretty much every time you use it, it's tiny. Hair gets wound around the rotating brush on the head of the machine constantly, and has to be cut off (it's hard not to damage the brush while doing this by the way, I have a short bob). Yes, the suction is unbeatable but this is a $600 machine! SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS! I'd sell it but I would feel guilty inflicting it on someone else.

I spent over $400 on a piece of crap! The suction is great, but only if you pick up dust. Try and suck up a piece of dog food and it will spit it across the floor. The rotary brush is constantly stopping because it becomes clogged with hair. Never had that problem with any other vacuum. It require 2 hands and a lot of frustration to get any of the attachments on or off. And doesn't Dyson promote that they are innovators? Why would you put the on/off switch on the canister and not the handle. One last note, the cord is constantly tangled on the canister which means you have to go untangle it in just about every room. Horrible vacuum, when I called to complain, they did NOTHING.

I purchased your Dyson DC65 a few months ago and I have to say that I am extremely disappointed. The cost of the item is completely unjustified with its value and performance. You cannot use it on any simple non-skid rugs without it sucking it up. The long attachment works, but it's annoying to have to pull that out just to vacuum an entry rug. The plug is so temperament that it falls out of its socket with little to no effort. The extension hose does not expand out far at all to allow you to vacuum furniture or steps making it nearly a useless tool. The vacuum is heavy, bulky and I wish I never bought the darn thing. It is definitely not worth $400 and I am kicking myself for making the investment.

When I purchased my Dyson ball vacuum cleaner, I was completely sold on the commercials. Frankly, the "ball" hasn't really made it any easier to maneuver than my old vacuum cleaner. The long cord is constantly getting wrapped around furniture legs, not to mention my own! This vacuum cleaner is very heavy and when struggling with it, I think it might be better suited for use by a body builder. A retracting cord would certainly be an improvement. The "expandable" hose doesn't expand beyond 4 ft unless I can find some way to anchor the vacuum cleaner to the floor. Otherwise, when trying to vacuum my stairs or cobwebs from the ceiling, the heavy machine painfully rams into the back of my legs. I purchased this machine because I don't have to buy replacement filters, and although I like being able to wash the filters, I find they need cleaning far more often than the recommended every 3 months.
I have had more powerful vacuum cleaners in the past. I would rate this one as only "average" as it doesn't pick up as well as advertised. I've had to go over the same area several times and still find myself bending over to "feed" tiny bits of dirt, paper, or pet hair directly into the hose. It is relatively easy to empty, but I wonder how long the plastic tank will last as I am already seeing stress fractures despite my careful handling. I never bang or shake the canister when emptying. Instead, I reach inside to pull the accumulated dirt and debris out. Very unpleasant. I would not recommend this vacuum cleaner to anyone who has much in the way of furniture to move around. Might be okay for use in a hall or auditorium where there little to get in the way. I'll never buy another Dyson vacuum cleaner.

I have never owned a vacuum as bad as the Dyson animal. The vacuum doesn't have any strength to its vacuum suction at all. When using the hose portion it will partially suck a piece of something off the floor then drop it back down unless you cover the end piece with your hand so it will suck it into the canister. The vacuum also requires cleaning of multiple areas after each use so it will halfway vacuum for the next use. The canister of course has to be cleaned out, the filter inside has to be cleaned out (because it gets clogged with dust, fibers, and pet hair), the beater brush casing has to be cleaned out because things gets stuck in and around it, and there is a spot I found underneath the vacuum where a hose that attaches to the canister also gets clogged. After you clean all these parts you have to sweep again with a sweeper that doesn't have much suction because you have made a mess cleaning out the vacuum. Ridiculous.

We've purchased two of the DC59 Animal cordless units, the following is our experience and resulting opinions about the units. For the most part they perform very well. They have far more power and clean far better than most units we've tried. The units excel at cleaning up pet hair (especially off of hard floors). They are lightweight and easy to operate. The dust bin is clear, so you know when it's full, and it's easy to dump out. The trigger must be pulled and held back for continuous operation, which is actually quite difficult for some users. Those with even moderate hand and finger strength will tire quickly and find the unit difficult to operate. The battery life is fairly short, especially on high power, where it drains in only a few minutes. The filtration system is not readily user serviceable, so apart from dumping the bin, the unit fills up with fine dust and dirt and is difficult to service.
But for us, over-weighing all other issues was the potential danger for cuts and personal injury posed by very sharp, broken plastic edges resulting from trigger guard tabs that simply broke off during normal use on our DC59 units. For unknown reasons, our DC59 trigger guard tab broke off one day in normal operation. The resulting edges around the broken trigger tab were extremely sharp and produced pretty deep cuts and scratches on my fingers before I knew what had happened. We contacted Dyson, explained the situation, and after some degree of hassle, they sent us a replacement DC59, which we feel was a very fair action on Dyson's part to solve the problem.
But after just a few weeks of normal use, the exact same thing happened again, and the trigger tab broke off in exactly the same place as it had on the first DC59, again with very sharp, potentially cut-injury producing plastic edges near the trigger. The two broken trigger tabs off both units look EXACTLY the same, and could match the broken edges on either DC59 they came off of. Not an engineer, but two pieces of fragile plastic break off in exactly the same way during normal use, sounds like something Dyson should look into. At any rate, the edges are very sharp, so be careful if this happens with your unit. They can be filed down to smooth out the jagged edges, but that shouldn't be necessary on a $500 cordless vacuum cleaner.

I bought the DC37 for 734.00 (CDN) in 2013 and it worked very well for 2 months and that was it. I had to wash out the filter after every use, not every month. The suction is terrible and there are no blockages. It's so bad that it can't even rotate the brushes on the power nozzle. When I do use it on the carpets it's as though I'm using my broom. Then you have to pull it apart and clean everything only to have it work properly for 1 day.
Disgusting product, especially considering the price. Every time I use it I cringe just having to look at it. Don't waste your time or money. Their ads are false and misleading... I guess they figure the condescending accent sells the product. It's funny I owned a Eureka that I purchased at Walmart which started better than Dyson and 1/4 of the price. The suction was 10 times more powerful than Dyson. The only drawback was that you had to replace the filter every month or so, for about 15.00. I guess 734 can buy a lot of filters… If only I had known!!!

We purchased the Dyson DC 62 in December 2014. When we first received the unit, we had trouble charging the unit however we managed to get a charge and used the vacuum until the charge ran out. Subsequent charging was equally difficult until the unit stopped charging altogether in mid February. We contacted Dyson at which time they shipped us a new power plug. The new power plug did not solve the problem so we contacted Dyson again and were told that the battery would need replacement. Ten days later we received the new battery and installed it. The unit worked until the charge was gone on the new battery and, once again, we had a dead vacuum cleaner.
We contacted Dyson again mid March and complained that we needed the unit and wanted a replacement. We were told that a new unit would be shipped but only once the original unit and all accessories were returned to Dyson for inspection. We were unhappy with this response as we had no vacuum to use and were in the middle of a move. We asked to speak with a manager and were told a manager would call back. Ten days later a message was left on our phone to call Dyson. The number left was the Dyson help line general number and no one seemed to be aware of our issue. Since then we have not received our replacement Dyson, instead we received a replacement cone filter sent by Purolator and no mention of our vacuum cleaner.
Today we contacted Dyson and left a call back number. It has been several hours and we have heard nothing even though we understood that our call would be returned when our place in the queue was reached. This was not our first experience trying to reach or hear back from Dyson. We purchased the Dyson because our old reliable vacuum finally died and we were sure that Dyson had a great reputation. We have since had to purchase another vacuum (not a Dyson) and would like to know when we may expect to receive the intact and working product that we paid almost six hundred dollars for. The small cone filter we received is an expensive reminder of Dyson's poor customer service and refusal to provide the 100% satisfaction guarantee that was promised.

I suppose repairs are to be expected with anything, although when I spent that much, I expected it to last much longer. I called Dyson, number 57 in line, that should tell you something. After going again through all the various steps, they Informed me I was no longer covered under warranty and would have to ship 1500 miles away for repair, of course at great expense. My major complaint is why can my local repair person not get parts for these and do the repair? For these reason, he refuses to even sell them. So buyer beware, I know I'll never purchase another one. Terrible, terrible service.

I have had to take my vacuum in for repair 2 times in 10 years... Each time for a bad belt, and had to have an attachment replaced when it broke in the first 6 months. I am facing yet another repair for a bad belt. The design of the underside does not allow one to remove the beater to clean out long hair that may get wrapped around the belt or its edges. This is poor design. The extender arm is not helpful as it lacks some adaptability and I agree with others that emptying the dust bucket creates a dust cloud sending much of it back into the room I just vacuumed. I owned a Hoover Upright for 30 years and never had the problems I have had with the Dyson in 10. If someone asks me for a recommendation, it surely will not be a Dyson. My husband purchased the Dyson Animal vacuum cleaner after hearing glowing reviews from several friends and family members. I wish he had not purchased without a trial first. I find it VERY hard to use. It's heavy, suction is too great for cleaning many of our throw rugs and bathroom mats. The suction is great on our berber carpet but other carpet/area rugs with pile are REALLY hard to clean. The vacuum will not push on carpet/rugs with any pile at all. Also it does not move freely around our furniture, we do not have much 'open' space. Furniture must now be moved whereas with my other vac, I could just clean under and around without moving. I can't use it in the sunroom at all as it has area rugs, plants on stands, and not much open space. It does well on open tile and hardwood. Wish I'd known these things before purchasing.

Was under water, still works great 4+ years later! I don't know the Dyson model # but it's an older yellow model. We got it many years ago in the late 1990's. It worked better than any vac we have ever had. Four or five years ago I left it in the bath tub overnight in our 5th wheel trailer to keep it out of the way. Since it was below freezing I let the lavatory sink drip overnight to avoid freezing up the water lines. In the morning I found the grey water tank had filled up and backed up into the tub, but not overflowed. The Dyson was sitting in enough water to cover the motor in the tub. I figured it was ruined for sure. I thought I had nothing to lose in trying to revive it so I drained it and took it apart. It took me awhile to figure out all the parts that came apart. Not everything, but enough to let the motor and lower end dry out. Then I let it all dry on heater vents for the day. I reassembled the vacuum and it still works great to this day.
Since then I've had to clean some seals and replace the belt a couple of times and I finally ordered new seals and replaced them. Very inexpensive. I have found that dust will collect and build up over time in the seal areas and cause minor leaks which have an impact on performance. It slowly gets worse over time and goes unnoticed until it doesn't work very well anymore. If I remove the seals and wash them in mild detergent and clean the areas around where the seals go and the seats for the seals, the vac will again work like new. Of course, one has to also keep the filters clean and clean out the inside of the tank of built up crud. Any trouble we've had with our Dyson was my fault for 1., drowning it, and 2., not servicing it at intervals to avoid leaky seals from dust build up. I would recommend that if anyone who has a Dyson that has a problem and is not inclined to getting their hands dirty, take it to a good shop that sells Dyson and let them service it.

I purchased my Dyson DC50 at Costco for $350 about one year ago. It is one of the most terrible vacuum cleaners I've ever used. It is not intuitive. Once you get the hang of how the vacuum works, you begin to vacuum and realize that the only debris it picks up is dust and hair. God forbid you want to clear up Cheerios or small pieces of paper.
The hose is not long enough or flexible enough. The attachments are awkward to use. The debris compartment is not easy to clean out much less get all of the debris out. What put my vacuum over the edge was that I tried to clean up some shredded paper with the vacuum. It became stopped up and stopped suction. We finally cleared out the blockage and the suction for the carpet cleaner no longer works. Save your money. This is an over-hyped machine created to look good in a house featured in Dwell Magazine. We recently bought the Dyson Animal and can't believe the poor design and build quality. For a company that has built its reputation on innovative design - the Dyson Animal is not even "fit for purpose". Its extendable hose for tackling stairs is simply far too short.
The whole construction is flimsy and even the components are made of cheap materials. The mains lead is made from some very stiff (cheap?) flex and the mains plug is attached so it’s impossible to plug it into areas where the ground clearance is small. Compare this to our other vacuum - a Hoover, which plugs in no problem.
When I complained to Dyson about these issues - I was told that the model I purchased was designed for accommodation "where space is a premium" hence the "lightweight" / small construction. Well, all I can say that not only does this explanation sound ridiculous - it also begs the question why was it not marketed as a "special needs" hoover?? Nowhere did it say that it was not designed for use in "normal" accommodation.
And even if you do have a "small" house or apartment, do you also have non-standard stairs? What is the point of having an extendable hose to "clean stairs" if it can even manage that with having to carry the hoover up the stairs in one arm while trying to man-handle the hose section in the other (not easy; I hasten to mention due to the poor design of this component - which for some reason has a long fixed handle).
All in all, I feel that anyone buying this hoover and would like a refund - should be able to get on as IMO the device is "not fit for purpose". Needless to say I will not be buying another Dyson as I feel I have been robbed this time round and would not want to make the same mistake again.

Tremendously overpriced and in my experience not worth the hassle. The power button when pressed keeps cutting out then coming back on in cycles of seconds! What a joke. I couldn't even hoover my car, after doing the front and back passenger side carpets, less than 10 minutes THE POWER DIED. This is after it being fully charged!
If I wanted a Hoover that couldn't live up to the hype I would have bought a cheap one from a less reputable company. I can't afford to pay so much for a Hoover that does not do what it says and is faulty after ONE use. I want a refund and believe me I will be posting this anywhere I can. Under the sale of goods act the Hoover would be described as not fit for purpose. Anyone would think that Dyson would go bankrupt if they refunded the money I paid for it. How can a reputable company be so unreasonable and make me feel like I have been robbed? I had to save long and hard to afford this hoover, amounts of money that are a drop in the ocean to Dyson. I purchased a Dyson DC 17 in early 2007. I have kids, a husband that never remembers to take shoes off in the house, and pets. I am not a fan of the dust bunny/dog hair look! I am still amazed at what this machine will pick up! It empties out completely and easily. After I empty the bin, I usually take the bin off the cyclone part and tap the cyclone part on the garbage can and it knocks all the dust right out of the little holes.
I have seen people complain about the weight and have found that when vacuuming plush carpet it is work to maneuver. However, my observation of this is that the suction and brush is contributing. I think that if people simply don't like the way something works, they slam the company instead of just returning or reselling their vacuum instead. This is why there are many types of vacuums on the market, not one machine will work for everyone. It astounds me that people don't even consider this.
I have good proof that the extra suction on plush carpet pays off. When we had our super plush Shaw carpet professionally cleaned after owning it for 6 years, there was virtually no hair in the cleaner's hair trap. He was so amazed that he had to come in and tell me what a surprise it was. In a house my size on similar carpet and pets, it usually clogs and needs emptying several times during cleaning.
Just before my warranty expired (5 years in), my belt needed replacing. This machine had been so low-maintenance that I honestly forgot that it had wear and tear parts! I called their CS number and did a little troubleshooting with the rep. Not only did they help me figure it out in no time, they sent me a belt for free - I didn't even have to ask! Because I was so impressed with their customer care, I decided to buy a new flexible hose from them while I was on the phone because I wanted a new clean one- NOT because there was a problem with the one I already had. I highly recommend Dyson to people who want a truly clean house. If you require a vacuum that does the work for you instead of complimenting your effort, hire a housekeeper. It's rude to go online and trash an innovative company because you have your own personal issues.

After purchasing this product, my e-mail was somehow noted with Dyson. I was very unhappy with this expensive product, (would only work for 30 sec to 5 mins, varying, then cut out) Dyson kept sending me updated information on new product. Finally wrote and told them to remove me from their information site, as I was about to throw out the product. Several days later, Dyson contacted me and I sent the Vacuum top to them as they had requested. It was returned and allegedly fixed. The cut out problem remained. Their Consumer Affairs department works very well, but no follow up, and repairs were a waste of their time and money. Be aware, I really thought this company, Dyson, was different. Consider my remarks before buying these expensive products.

How could the Queen of England knight the guy in 2006 who designed the worst vacuum in the world. "Millionaire engineer and inventor James Dyson has been knighted for his services to business. The 59-year-old thanked his 1,500 workers for turning his invention into a "great international success." Norfolk-born Sir James revolutionized the domestic appliances market with the bagless vacuum cleaner. "I hope something like this will encourage other engineers and people who have ideas and inventions to go out and commercialize them," he said. The Dyson Dual Cyclone became the best-selling vacuum cleaner in the UK within 18 months of its launch.
Maybe because the machine is nothing more than a $650 overrated giant piece of plastic junk. The entire machine is so poorly designed, one has to wonder if there was any common sense when they first conceived it. The idea of the vortex is great, however, those tiny holes fill up with dust. Ever try to really clean them... good luck. It took us over an hour. We needed another vacuum to clean this one. This is a very heavy machine to carry up and down stairs. The wand of this machine is ludicrous. It is so long, you can never clean your car, your couches or anything that requires a tight space. No flex to it. The so called vortex sucking power is poor. I have to go over an area two or three times to vacuum up anything larger than a dust mite. A luxury carpet is almost impossible to push and it does not really clean it. It rips the heck of any rug edges. The brush makes the carpet lines look good... not clean. Never ever even consider buying this machine.
I called Dyson to ask about a replacement handle (remember the word "plastic") and they said we needed to buy an entire body of the machine for $450. Really. I cannot wait to take this to the crusher and get rid of it forever. I told Dyson, "I am going to go out and crush this thing and take a YouTube Video of it and post it." They could care less. I would not even give this thing away at Goodwill or ARC for fear of imposing this horrible device on unwitting customers that really needs a vacuum to clean their home. If you're even thinking of buying a Dyson anything, think of this instead: go to the bank and take out $800 in $20 bills and drive downtown and throw them all out the window. It is a better use of your money.

But when I went to reading on how to clean and taking care of the Dyson I found that it had Multiple Dry filters through out the machine that had to be cleaned after each use plus it had to be cleaned in the air tubes on top for the Dyson to work properly. It was too much to clean after each use. My family has severe Allergies and this isn't something that we can use on a regular basis. And I know my wife would drive herself crazy trying to keep it clean with her having OCD and cleans almost daily. Upon seeing the pictures they claimed the damage to the carpets could have been the result of pre-existing damage due to loose threads etc. When I mentioned I will go to the Media, they asked me to send in the vacuum.
The vacuum was returned to me in a filthy state without even a note in it. I called them several times and finally reached Mrs. Alexandria. I got a Dyson DC14 vacuum for free. The only complaint I have on it is changing the belt. What a pain it is. Just to get to the belt you got to take apart the bottom part of the vacuum to get to the belt. It's a hassle. Just trying to get a new belt on is a hassle. The vacuum requires two belts a clutch and brush roll belt. If the clutch belt breaks you have to replace the whole part. If you order new belts you get a brush roll and a clutch belt. That don't make sense. Why would you need a clutch belt if you have to replace the whole thing if it breaks? It should just be two brush roll belts. To me it's not worth it.

I was amazed reading through the negative comments on here that I felt I had to say something. I inherited my mum's Dyson DC07 in 2005 but I originally bought it for her in 2002 and had been using it to clean her flat on a regular basis for those three years. It's now 2014, the DC07 is still going strong and apart from the red catcher strips on the stair tool coming off, replacing a filter and having to change the belt a few times, I haven't had to replace anything.
I am a soft sculpture artist so I work with fur fabrics, fillers and wool fibres, have waist length hair and a cat that sheds fur everywhere all of which often spell disaster for vacuums but the Dyson easily copes with all of that. I use it every other day to clean the cat's room and his bedding, my workroom, our bedroom, the bathroom, the stairs and hall, then I empty it, give it a shake and put it away. Once in a while I give it a more thorough clean and a brush down but that is it. We also have a Kirby that hubby still uses to clean the living room, the down stairs hall and the kitchen but it's really heavy and I can't lift that anymore so the Dyson being much lighter has been a godsend.
Ok perhaps it doesn't quite have the concentrated beating power of the Kirby but the Dyson still picks up everything we throw at it and it does a decent job around the house, far better than the countless vacuums we went through before getting either of these which isn't bad when you consider the Dyson was only £159 while the Kirby cost us over a £1000 and costs far more to repair especially given we have had to replace more of the Kirby parts over the years as it's frightening how much they cost. They wanted £149 to replace a 50p bearing the last time they came to service the Kirby! Even up against the Kirby my Dyson does a grand job, how many other vacuums can say that? So as I said at the outset I really cannot understand the negativity about these cleaners.

Dyson DC23 Turbine head not spinning. Tried all avenues suggested by Dyson, to no avail. The only solution they offer is to purchase a new turbine head for $129.00. On investigation I found the white nylon fan that drives the rubber belt that drives the brush rotor has split from its shaft and spins independently of the axle. This is an easily replaced part that would cost no more than $10.00. Unfortunately Dyson refuses to supply it as a spare part. Their suggestion is to replace the complete head unit for the sake of a $10.00 part. Where are their green credentials, how wasteful is that in this modern day of repair, recycle, reuse? I received this vacuum from my husband as a gift. I had an older model Dyson, the yellow one before and I had the Dyson DC 40. It was in the shop once a year at Sears. It was a lemon as the motor always burned out. Sears could of replaced it and saved themselves a lot of money. So now the Dyson DC 40 is a big mistake as well. It does suck with a lot of power but that's all it does. It has a hose that is so short, that it is back breaking. You would have to be a midget to like it. The cord is also too short. The hose constantly gets caught up in the stupid little wheels. The actual tube that is attached to the bigger hose is so small that everything gets caught up in it. I'm always digging out the dirt with a skewer. If you don't remove they caught up hair or any little piece of whatever is in the tube. The hose screams at a high pitch until all tiny objects are removed. The vacuum also will lose sucking power. The vacuum constantly falls over as it light and clumsy. I wish my husband would of picked another company as I hate this vacuum with a passion.

Original Review: Oct. 5, 2014
Purchased my DC 41 Animal in December 2011, and spent $600--way more than I could really afford, but I wanted to finally have a really good vacuum. What a mistake. At first I loved it and thought it was really worth the money. I took very good care to follow the directives and wash the filters every three months, even though the one in the ball was a real pain to get back in because screwing it closed again was frustrating.
Now I hate it and I've increasingly hated it since I first bought it. What was a minor inconvenience at first has turned into lots of minor inconveniences and a couple of major ones! First annoyance: It must take someone with an extreme amount of patience to stand the thing upright because I try and try and try, and when it finally clicks and I think it will stay...IT FALLS OVER! I have gotten sooo frustrated I've actually scared my dogs! Seriously!
Second annoyance: It's pretty much impossible to use the hose to clean anything except for ceilings and anything several feet away, which is not always what you need it for when you clean. Case in point, trying to clean my sofa under the cushions. The hose just doesn't want to bend the way I need it to without crimping the hose and stopping the suction, no matter how many contorted positions I try. Third annoyance: Trying to put the filter back in the ball (as I said above). It's not easy to get the cover back on the ball
Fourth annoyance: This is a big one now and the reason I'm seriously going to look for a new vac. I already exercise 6 days a week and don't need another workout just maneuvering the vacuum. When vacuuming bare floor the vac sticks to the floor. It creates such a suction that it doesn't pick up dirt, but rather moves it around forcing me to pull up hard on the vacuum to get it off the floor. It has actually picked up vinyl tiles! So...anybody want to buy a DC-41?

I used to sing the praises of this company's vacuums, back when I had the one of the early models. But no more. I am on my second Dyson upright (Dyson 41 Animal, $600 before tax), which has failed after less than three years of use. A twenty-cent gasket or pressure/friction collar inside the hose tore off, making the unit unusable, as there is now no seal and the hose slides down the inserted wand when the vacuum is in the upright position. After half a day of phoning Dyson, waiting for return calls (only one of three were returned), shooting e-mails back and forth with multiple people in two departments (photos of every angle of my vacuum required), what they have offered as a fix is a "replacement part".
I know from my discussion with a customer service rep that this means a new hose/wand assembly, which will have to be switched out by a vacuum repair shop. So I now have to pay to service a defective appliance that failed well within the warranty window? Not acceptable. I had to throw out my first Dyson because crucial bits of plastic on the housing had chipped off with use (motor was fine) and the components would no longer click into place. When I replaced it, I had to buy all new attachments. This is planned obsolescence!
Vacuum companies can either sell you a sturdy unit that lasts a decade or more, and get steady money from you in bags and filters, or they can produce a poorly constructed (all plastic except for the motor), no-bag unit with washable filters that fails within six years so you have to purchase another... and new attachments. The latter is Dyson's business model. It's rubbish.

DYSON 59 - The most expensive portable vacuum one can buy. Very awkward to empty canister, mostly needs to be removed and then very difficult to put back together. Rubbish gets caught in the entry to the canister from the inlet. Dust gets through the Filter easily and then into the motor assembly. Then dust starts coming out through the motor assembly at the rear so its definitely not doing what it was designed to do. It looks very fancy and the commercials are very convincing but If I had the option I would return this and buy a standard Dust buster. They are easier to empty and you can clean all components. I have spoken to Dyson and they refuse to tell me how to pull the item apart so I can clean out all the dust that has gathered in the last 8 months of use. Instead they have offered to service the unit for $150.00 + gst. I questioned the warranty and they advised by email that dust is not covered in the warranty. I purchased a Dyson Animal vacuum. I love the suction that it has, but it is made very cheap. It has a lot of plastic pieces on it that do not hold up to everyday cleaning. I went to push the button down on the basket to empty and the little plastic piece that pushes down on the basket latch, slipped down along the side of the bottom piece, and it looks like it is just about to break off. Now the latch won't stay up so I can replace it back into the machine once I have emptied it out. Please help me out in getting me a new and improved vacuum. I am very disappointed in the quality of your vacuum. It is a very expensive investment, and if I don't get any satisfaction, I will never buy another Dyson Vacuum.

I have a DC 39 canister vacuum that I have owned for 1 year and the motor has burned out of it. I do not have kids, a 1300 square ft house, two short hair small dogs and only vacuum once a week. So the machine has not been used roughly. I clean the filter like it says to do which if you call support they are mainly concerned with that and not the burning smell. They do not have a complaint department so even if you want to file a complaint you can't. Maybe that is why they get such good reviews. There were 6 other Dysons in the shop when I brought mine in and another lady leaving with one. Not what I was expecting when I paid so much for it. Don't believe the hype.

Purchased a Dyson vacuum approx 4 1/2 - 5 yrs ago. Starting at about 2 yrs, plastic pieces started breaking off. It has gotten that if you look at it, a piece of plastic will fall off. I have not abused this vacuum, just normal household carpet vacuuming. I have held pieces of it together with bungee cords for about 2 yrs, not wanting to buy another vacuum after spending so much for this one. The seals where the dirt tank connect to the vacuum no longer seal tightly and it has definitely lost a whole lot of suction. Save your money, for something so expensive to last no longer than a much less expensive vacuum, it is not worth it.

Absolutely shoddy, illogical and indicative of why these parts keep breaking - badly made and so they have given up on the warranty to save costs. I just don't understand why so many people seem to recommend Dyson. That is the reason I bought mine. I had it for about three long years. In that time, I replaced two hoses that cracked, and two brush rollers from the power nozzle that had the nylon brushes wear down to nothing. This model had no upholstery brush, I had to order that separately, but I'd already known that. Just seemed a little odd though.
It did absolutely nothing to get up the hair from my three cats. I ended up using the hardwood floor piece even on the rugs because of the worn brushes on the power nozzle. It has excellent suction, but when the canister got a little over half full there was a difference because it spit the dirt back out. This particular Dyson (maybe all of them) has no suction control. Not much fun when you're dealing with curtains or lighter weight items. I sucked up things I hadn't planned to quite a few times. It also was quite heavy. It was very loud and my animals were scared to death of it.
I just bought a new vacuum by another company who's been around awhile and I can already see a difference. I can actually say that I see a carpet that's not a carpet of hair. I didn't buy a Dyson Animal at the time because I didn't see a canister for sale back then and my orthopedic surgeon told me to stick with canisters because of a spinal fusion. This was a Dyson canister. The Stowaway DC21. Please do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. I would include a picture but my camera is not working well at the moment.

Bought vacuum 5 months ago. It clogs on a regular basis. When it works it is great. But it is clogged more often than not. When it was clogged on the actual canister and I could not fix on my own I called the company. I was instructed to take to be fixed. For the amount of money I paid I feel Dyson should pay the postage to have fixed instead of the consumer taking the time. Dyson then agreed to have it sent via UPS. I received vacuum back after 1 week with no paper work telling me what was done. I called again and was told there was a clog. I asked what the clog was and how it could have gotten up into the canister. I do not understand how there can be no paperwork. For a large company it is the worst customer service I have ever dealt with and I will never buy a Dyson product again and do not feel they stand behind their product and it is. A sorry situation when I am having to use a 60 back up vacuum when I saved and scrimped to buy an expensive vacuum that should outlive me.

The way they make this vacuum is so dangerous. There is a part of the vacuum, it shows in the operating manual photo with the roller attachment. This is built-in and sticks out and does get in the way of your legs while working. I have accidentally gotten hurt from this object before, but this time is much worse. My leg has a large blood clot and since my immune system is weakened by me having a heart transplant back in 2002, I do not heal well, and am susceptible to infection. This is my third Dyson I've owned and the last, my two previous ones were okay but the motors died just out of warranty... But silly me thinking the DC40 would be better. WRONG, it's the worst yet, I had the DC04 and DC14. Build quality was good and tools were great. Forget that on the DC40. It's cheap and nasty, flimsy and just poor build quality. They make kids' vacuums better made than this.
Poor design, let's start by the cable, wrong length and too short. When you wind it up, you have to go the right way or the clip won't hold the plug that dangles and when you go the right way, the clip is at the top and difficult to clip it on and the plug seems to dangle at the top... That ball is too close to the head and harder than the old ones to get under anything. The rubber seals if that's what you call them, cheap foam more like on the pipes keep coming out when you take off the tools, grrrr. The hose is shorter and makes the unit fall over or follow you, dangerous at the top of stairs!.
Now those rubbish tools, not sure which is worse, the crevice tool or the bristle brush. Who the hell designed that crevice tool with its silly bristle head? I ripped that straight off. It's too thick and small but too long and you need two hands to use it as its bendy ffs. The rest are lost in the shoe cupboard never to be seen again. No storage, we got the free spring clean kit... Don't bother, its rubbish, even cheaper tools you will never use! You can't use the old tools because they don't fit, and that stupid button to release them, is it that they are so cheap that they couldn't get them to stay on so added that button?
Another reviewer is right. All you seem to do is empty carpet fibres to way too often!!!!! I'm selling it and buying an old DC14. It was the best they made, trading on the name and churning out cheapo crap for maximum profit just like everyone else!!!!!! Arrogant and don't listen to the customer. Got that sorted out and put back together, only to find a few weeks later it started whistling loud, and had no suction at all through the hose. No clogs whatsoever. The clean every 3 months filter should be cleaned after every use. The lifetime filter takes 24+ hours to dry in the sun. Does not edge clean. Couldn't even suck up an ant! When I try and angle the attachment to a usable angle with my arms, the hose starts to shriek and my arms start to hurt. The Dyson DC 41 vacuum is poorly designed. The hose attachment function is practically unusable due to its 4 foot FIXED extension. As a hand tool, the fixed length of the extension makes it impossible to use in small spaces like behind a toilet bowl, for example, or to clean a window sill. You are forced to deal with 4 feet of rigid plastic tube. It's like trying to paint small spaces with a paint brush that has a 4 foot handle. The "flexible" hose is so tight that it pulls the vacuum behind you like a spring as soon as you go two feet from the unit.
I have to lay the entire machine down on the floor to make it stay stationary so it doesn't continually follow me around hitting my heels as well as furniture. Also, the vacuum itself can't be rolled over any "lip" like a carper edge or door sill. The entire machine must be lifted....totally unreasonable for older people or those with upper body problems. Finally, you can't adjust the vacuum height. This is ridiculous because it renders the machine unusable on most carpets. In all, a very bad waste of a lot of money. Better to get a Hoover for a third of the price.

It requires the user to put some sort of device to the top of the canister and manipulate it to eliminate the rest of the accumulated debris. I have already had it repaired as a small piece of plastic lodged itself in the intake area. Now it is clogged again. I empty it regularly, I clean it regularly and I clean the filters as specified by Dyson. I have one medium dog with short hair that does not shed that much. The Dyson works great when it works, but in the short time I have owned it, I have had two major problems. The first problem occurred in Aug 2012 and was an electrical issue. I had to take it in for service and did not have my vacuum back for more than a month. The second problem occurred May 2013 and was a motor problem. I did not have a working vacuum for almost 3 weeks.
While both of these problems were under warranty, Dyson would only credit my warranty by 2 weeks for a portion of the time I was without the vacuum. If these occurred while not under warranty, each fix would be between $125-$175. My 5-year warranty ends soon and I know it will be only a matter of time before I'll have another problem. When another problem occurs, I really need to consider if I want to pay to have it fixed or just buy a new vacuum. I got a new Dyson DC24 Animal in March 2012. This was the vacuum Dyson recommended for my RV with a small area to clean. The beater bar broke on it in May 2012 and damaged my carpet. I called Dyson and they walked me through their "easy fix." It did not fix it. I sent pictures as requested by Dyson for their "engineers to look at". On another email a few weeks later, I sent extra pictures to Alexandra at Dyson as requested in that email, "for the engineers to see" again. I got a letter the next day from Dyson, to my address in San Diego saying the engineers said there was nothing wrong with it. Really, the bar won't move or work. It is broken!
So the beater bar doesn't work and the suction is bad. What do they think, consumers are dumb? How did I get a letter from Chicago to San Diego the same day? I didn't ... It was posted 5 days before they asked for the pics of the broken beater bar, so they lied again. I sent it in on December 16, 2012 to Dyson in Buffalo, New York. Two weeks later, they can't find it ... of course.
On February 8, 2013, the vacuum was back in exactly the same condition as it left. They won't return calls, including messages for supervisors. I have all this documented by recordings and videos. This broken beater bar damaged my carpet in May 2012 and, to this date, there is no resolution to this issue either, and I have had a non-working vacuum since May 2012. And a few days after my vacuum came back, I got a letter again saying that I "abused the vacuum" and that the sole plate is damaged. Really, in 6-8 weeks vacuuming my small RV floor? That's proof of a bad product.
So I took my vacuum to a certified Dyson vacuum repairman. He told me the sole plate is fine, and that Dyson denies all claims of damage of their products. He also said that I'm not the first and that the beater bars break often and are a bad design. So they sent it back broken to me, and it's still under warranty? This is how Dyson voids their warranty; they say you abuse it ... I shared this letter to the repairman, and, "it's generic," he said, "I've seen it before." So I asked why he works on Dysons still after all of this, and he said he will be ending his service for them soon, and other repairmen I called have also done the same with Dyson.
$400+ on a vacuum that lasted 6-8 weeks in a small RV ... really? So, I had to finally buy a vacuum and bought a Hoover (cheaper model). This new T series model from Hoover picked up 100x better than the expensive Dyson and was half the price. After all of this mayhem, all I wanted was a new vacuum, forget the carpet damage ... but they won't do that as it says they are not at fault for the damage.
Don't buy a Dyson. Read all the complaints online about Dyson before you decide to buy. It's the worst customer service ever! Shame on you, Dyson.
I made complaints to the BBB in Chicago where Dyson is located. I was told they have taken themselves off from the BBB for complaints. The BBB said I could file one still, so I did. And, again, Dyson gave another generic response of abuse. I have caught them in multiple lies, and have the letters and emails to prove it, along with the Dyson repairman's assessment. So the moral of the story is, Dyson does not live up to its warranty.

Had it been an accidental disconnection, she would have rung back but did not. Talk about rude and insulting, is this Sir James Dyson's idea of customer service and courtesy?
I was to phone again to make a formal complaint and sort out the original problem in the first place. I spoke to another rep called Nick. Instead of asking me how my name was spelled, he just spelled it wrong. I find this matter very insulting and upsetting where individuals just cannot be bothered to handle a simple matter as that. I was passed to a Hannah who was going to look into matters and listen to the call! It was quite clear by the tone in her voice that she was not in the least bit concerned.
It is all in house, so nothing is ever done and it is an offense under the Telecommunications Act to hang up on someone. This is a typical scenario of the could not care less of individuals such as Beth. She was fully aware that I would have to ring back but as there is no discipline in the Customer Service Department, she was not bothered at all and would rather cause more inconvenience and upset. She has no idea of who she is talking to at any time and deliberately and intentionally causes distress and upset through her attitude to other people.
I am handicapped and going through rather a lot at present so coming across individuals who act in the manner that Beth does is extremely disconcerting. It is about time that staff in CS should always treat people in the manner that they themselves would like to be treated. I stated that I would be speaking to Sir James Dyson about this matter and Hannah in CS stated that he would not speak to me. Don't ever purchase a Dyson vacuum. I purchased it in 2011 and it is now at the repair center for the fourth time. I called (11/17/12) for status on repairs and Colorado service center can't find it! UPS shows delivery on 11/08/12. Horrible Customer Service, arrogant, demeaning and zero "make happen" attitude. I have purchased much less expensive vacuum cleaners with little to no issues. The experience with Dyson has been tortuous.

I purchased the Dyson Animal Vacuum through the shopping channel in late August 2012. I started using the vacuum cleaner in late September and encountered difficulty with it every time I used it, which was frequently. It either clogged, lacked suction, etc. I spent more time trying to figure out why it wasn't working then vacuuming. In sheer frustration, I called their helpline only to discover I had received a defected vacuum cleaner - after only 6 weeks of use. I had no return option, only to send it to their repair center. What an inconvenience. Now without a vacuum for who knows how long, what do they expect their customers to do? I will be telling everyone I know not to purchase a Dyson.
I have made attempts to contact the manufacturer, but to no avail. I can only reach their customer service center. I have also contacted the shopping channel waiting to see what their response will be. If I had an option, I would return it for a refund! Lesson learned. Now I will tell anyone wanting to buy one to save their money! Not worth the money for the product and their lack of interest in their customers' satisfaction with their product!

It's been 3 weeks since my vacuum was sent out to be repaired. It was sent to a Sears repair service. I have been jerked along now for a week, telling me it's been fixed (beater brush and belt) and is in "transit." Dyson repair customer service tech informed me that the staff who works for Dyson never uses Sears because of their bad reputation and how long it takes them to get the job done. How cool is Brent, they should fire his ** for telling one of their customers this. I could have gone out and bought a cheap vacuum a few years back and just thrown it away at this point and bought a new one. Instead, I bought a $500.00 vacuum expecting it to be superior to other vacuums on the market. I love the vacuum but will never purchase anything else from Dyson again, just because of the experience I am receiving now with them.

Dyson Vacuums are over-priced, over-marketed pieces of flimsy plastic junk! They destroy carpets. They void most carpet warranties and many of them are made of flimsy plastic. I purchased a Dyson DC41 Animal Vacuum in July for $600. Less than three months later after very light use, a frail and thin part of the base plate broke and gouged tears in my carpet, several feet long. I contacted Dyson and told them about how the vacuum damaged my carpet and they had me send in photos of the damage and the bottom of the vacuum.
I didn't notice that a little part of the base plate was broken. They noticed the broken base plate and pointed it out to me as the cause. I told them that it was their fault since I didn't abuse the vacuum, and it broke because it is made of flimsy plastic. They denied all responsibility and liability. I have done some research (do some googling) and I have read many reports of Dyson Vacuum fraying carpets and such due too powerful suction, stiff bristles, and self adjusting base plate. It gets too low and there's no way to self-adjust it. I have also read many complaints of how flimsy this particular model is and also Dyson Vacuums, in general. Dyson bombards with ads and has a great marketing campaign, but the truth is that their vacuums eat carpets and are made of flimsy plastic.

I called again, they said it was in transit, same story, it never came. I called again and asked if they could send it a different way like the battery. He said, "Let me ask my supervisor."
I waited 5 or 10 minutes and then he said the supervisor said no. I asked to talk to a supervisor. He kind of sighed and said he never could find his supervisor. But he would have him call. It never did happen. I waited another 2 weeks, called again and got the same story - it was in transit. Now it has been another 2 weeks and still nothing. It seems like I am being misled. The vacuum handheld was almost $300. It seems like they could do better service.

I purchased my DC 24 vacuum cleaner in Dec 2009. It worked beautifully. I don't really use it on a daily basis; I would say maybe once every three months or so when I vacuum sofas, lamp shades and hard to reach corners as well as tile floors throughout the house. The brush stopped functioning and I called 1800 number listed on the operating manual. The wait was not too long and the person helping me was helpful. After we went through some steps, the brush started to work. I noticed a few days later that the vacuum stopped suction. I did everything I can to make it work properly. I even cleaned the filters and looked for blockages as stated on the manual. It does not turn on at all. It is still in good shape, almost brand new. I even went through the same steps again as a Dyson representative walked me through. What do I do now? This machine is expensive and I don't want to just give up on it. Do I mail it back to Dyson? Do I get a replacement? Please help!

This is the most disgusting design for a vacuum and I will never own one again. I was not able to get it to work any better. From now on, I will happily change vacuum bags.

I've had my Dyson Animal for two years. The suction is fantastic and I like that part about it. What totally sucks is the hose usage and the floor attachments. This was poorly designed. I complained to Dyson and they said the hose would eventually stretch out but when for crying out loud. It wants to compress itself into the original length and it sucks to pull the machine backwards to use this feature. It tips over constantly because it's being pulled at an awkward angle. I wish I had bought the canister model. I sure wouldn't recommend the upright.

Previously, we had an upright that fell apart after just two years. We purchased it from Overstock.com and we just figured - that is what we get for buying refurbished. Dyson sent the repair shop the wrong motor 4 times, and it took 3 months for them to even send the first wrong motor. I cannot believe how long it took to get the correct motor. The representative was extremely rude and constantly talked over me and argued. Now, I am told that hopefully I should receive the part by the end of June, making it almost 2 months without being able to use this $300 vacuum.
Dyson’s customer service was extremely discourteous and offered nothing but excuses. Paying over $300 for a vacuum that breaks two times in the first month of service and waiting almost two months for a replacement part is unacceptable. What is one supposed to do while waiting two months? I guess purchase another vacuum? That appears to be the only remedy - at half the price of this one. I have spent several weeks trying to get my vacuum fixed due to Dyson's policy regarding "select repair centers". Even though the vacuum is still under warranty, I just wanted it fixed by a reputable, near by, vacuum repair shop. Apparently, Dyson will not contract with them because they don't have enough volume. This shop has an impeccable reputation but why should Dyson care about good customer service and the act of actually getting a vacuum fixed without hassles. Dyson would not even sell this shop the minor part that was needed. So I had to go get my vacuum and start all over.
I called Dyson. The woman on the phone gave me several pieces of misinformation, even after I specifically asked. For all I know it wasn't misinformation, the second and third person stating just the opposite might have been giving me misinformation. This is apparently a common occurring at Dyson's "customer support".
So I called Sears and spoke to three different people with this misinformation. I wasted 45 minutes on the phone with them and then had to call Dyson again. This second representative was the worst. She was condescending, loved to quote her "knowledge" repeatedly without even listening to what I had said. They must be "trained" to chat incessantly while they have you on mute. She literally did not listen to what I had just told her. She would not escalate the call and threatened to "put me on hold" if I didn't listen to "what she had to say" much like you'd threaten a time out for a three-year-old. She didn't even understand the problem.
Finally, she did "transfer me to the floor team leader" (i.e., her buddy at the cubicle next to her who owed her one) several weeks into the process of trying to get my vacuum repaired, I have another location to take the vacuum to. I asked if Dyson could simply talk to the service center and set it up, but no, this representative explained, this would take so much time to straighten out the "confusion". Apparently, Dyson likes their customers to try to "straighten out the confusion" for them.
I am previously satisfied customer who is now extremely dissatisfied due to much of my time being wasted and I am still with or without the vacuum. I will be advising everyone I know that buying a Dyson is not worth the hassle. I will not buy Dyson products until I can take it to a nearby location, which, Dyson has clearly explained the contract to and I, as the customer, can take it where ever I want if I choose to pay.

Every customer service agent tells a different story and is unwilling to escalate the problem to a higher level.
