Colonial Van Lines moving and storage

Colonial Van Lines specializes in long-distance moves and has completed more than 250,000 moves over 50 years. This moving company provides comprehensive support during your move with teams of professional movers equipped to safely and securely disassemble, pack, load, transport, unload and reassemble items at your new residence.

Colonial Van Lines offers the following moving and storage services:

  • Long-distance moving: Colonial Van Lines has the resources and equipment to provide customized moving services across the United States, with the exclusion of Hawaii and Alaska. Its focus is on full-service, interstate moves. It is licensed with the Department of Transportation (DOT) to facilitate and transport household goods and items across state lines.
  • Packing services: On moving day, Colonial Van Lines can send its movers with top-quality packing materials to professionally pack your belongings for you. It offers several flexible packing service options, so you can decide in advance how much or how little you’d like to pack yourself.
  • Storage services: Full-service storage, storage-in-transit and commercial storage services are available and can accommodate both short- and long-term needs. Colonial Van Lines' storage facilities are climate-controlled and spacious enough to house large items like trampolines and commercial equipment.
  • Corporate relocation: Colonial Van Lines can help you create a custom corporate relocation plan to make the long-distance corporate move as seamless as possible. A trained moving specialist will pack your inventory or equipment safely and quickly, and then a dedicated Colonial Van Lines customer service representative will keep you up to date throughout the whole moving process.

Colonial Van Lines also offers commercial moving for company relocations, records archiving, warehousing and equipment stowage.

Depending on timing and availability, Colonial Van Lines may partner with affiliated, third-party moving companies to facilitate its long-distance moves. Working with subcontractors or affiliated moving companies isn’t uncommon in this industry, but you should be sure to check the credentials of the movers when they arrive before they begin packing or loading your items.

Colonial Van Lines packing options

Colonial Van Lines' relocation services include full and partial packing options. Pricing varies depending on several factors, including your location and the weight and density of items you’re moving.

Colonial Van Lines costs

Colonial Van Lines’ pricing depends on your location, the weight of your belongings and whether you add packing services or require help with specialty items. On average, professional moving services cost between $600 and $5,000. Because Colonial Van Lines only offers long-distance moves, you should expect to pay more than $1,000.

Professional packing services typically cost between $300 and $500. In general, the more rooms or items you need packed, the longer the service will take and the higher the cost will be.

Colonial Van Lines offers a free online quoting tool, making it easy to estimate a price range for your move. The following table outlines a few quotes we received to move the contents of a three-bedroom house when booking two months in advance.

Movers may charge additional fees for express delivery, additional moving insurance and storage. Expect to pay more if the movers have to park more than 75 feet from your doorway or if they have to navigate stairs.

Colonial Van Lines offers a free in-home moving services app. You can upload pictures and videos of your household goods and request special services through your phone, and a Colonial Van Lines moving coordinator will provide a quote. You can also order packing materials and access moving tips and checklists through the app.

Insuring your move with Colonial Van Lines

Federal law requires moving companies to offer insurance for the items being transported. You can choose between three different insurance options with Colonial Van Lines:

  • Released Value: This insurance is included in the cost of your move and offers no more than $0.60 per pound per item.
  • Full Value Protection: This option is much more comprehensive and offers the full value of any items that are lost or damaged during the move.
  • Third-party moving insurance: You have the option to buy additional insurance coverage from another provider. This insurance coverage will pair with the released value insurance offered by Colonial Van Lines.

If you’re deciding whether moving insurance is worth it, consider the distance, the value and fragility of individual items and the total monetary value of everything the movers will transport.

How to book a move with Colonial Van Lines

To book your move, contact Colonial Van Lines at least two months before you move, even if you don’t know the exact date. Colonial Van Lines suggests finding at least two other quotes from different movers to compare prices before booking.

Once you decide to book your move with Colonial Van Lines, the booking process is straightforward:

  1. Request information by filling out Colonial Van Lines’ online contact form.
  2. Describe the details of your move, such as the origin and destination ZIP codes, the date of relocation and whether or not you require packing services.
  3. Use the Colonial Van Lines app to get a more precise quote. Through the mobile app, you can create a visual inventory of your property and get an accurate estimate.
  4. Contact a customer service representative if you have any follow-up questions or need to adjust any aspect of your upcoming move. If you have a special request for the movers, be sure to inform a customer service representative before moving day.

FAQ

Why do quoted prices from Colonial Van Lines sometimes change?

Colonial Van Lines’ pricing can fluctuate from the original quote for a variety of reasons:

  • Inaccurate weight estimation: Initial price estimates are based on individual customers’ descriptions. An inaccurate weight estimate could change the final cost of a move.
  • Changes in total shipping weight: The total cost will increase if additional items need to be moved or if packing instructions change.
  • Packing: If the movers arrive and have to do more packing than they initially planned for, there will be an additional charge for the labor.
  • Long carrying distance: Colonial Van Lines’ policy is to charge extra when the distance from the doorway to the truck is more than 75 feet or if they have to climb stairs.
Can Colonial Van Lines move on the weekends?

Yes, it’s possible to relocate on the weekends, but it could be more expensive. Colonial Van Lines suggests planning at least two months in advance to avoid scheduling issues.

Will Colonial Van Lines movers load boxes that I pack myself?

Yes, movers will pack any item that they consider safe for transport, regardless of who packed it. Keep in mind, however, that it may be more difficult to make a claim against Colonial Van Lines for a damaged valuable if you packed it yourself.

What is the Colonial Cubes moving container service?

Colonial Cubes are modular moving containers used for long-distance moves or storage. Each weather-resistant cube holds up to 3,500 pounds, with options for DIY or full-service packing. Availability is limited to areas within 250 miles of select cities, including:

  • Chicago, Illinois

I needed a moving company for my in-laws who moved. I was setting that up for them, and I did all the legwork, and looked at other places, and decided on Colonial because I thought the person I worked with was great. He laid out what was needed and what would be done, and it sounded very organized, and he was very professional.

The coordinator was spot on. Three weeks before, they reached out and said, “We need this done, that done,” and I relayed that to my in-laws, and they did what they needed to as well. They went over the inventory. Everything looked okay. The coordinator changed to the third party. So, it was a little different. It goes from Colonial, and they worked with a third party that was in Connecticut to perform the move. So, that was a little different. There seemed to be a toss-the-baton-to-this-person, and they were very good as well with letting me know, “Call this number. I'm so and so.”

As far as the inventory, I went through the list with the first person from Colonial. He was very good. I have been at my in-laws several times over the past 10 years. So, I was very close. Then I had my mother-in-law and father-in-law review and double-check, just so they had the right things. My father-in-law has a little dementia. He has a huge basement full of tools, but they were not included in the move. They moved those separately anyway. So, we're all good.

We were remote from the moving day, but we were keeping in touch with them. It was a long day. They didn't get there until after 12:00, and then they had to be in Rhode Island from Maine the next morning. They got there at 12:00, and they left at like 11:30 P.M. So, that was a long day for them. It was very stressful because it was a move and they had to get everything out, but everything went pretty well. They packed them all up, and the moving crew left, but my in-laws had to wait until the next morning to come to Rhode Island for a closing here. So, it was kind of a little hectic, but that's to be expected when you're three and a half hours away. Overall, my in-laws didn't have any complaints about the move at all. Colonial is very good in what they do. I had peace of mind, not having to worry about belongings getting moved timely, efficiently, and unbroken. Everything was intact. To me, it gets rid of some of the stress of the whole move.

We were moving across the country from the East Coast to the West Coast, Philadelphia to California, and Colonial Van Lines was very aggressive. I started calling a couple of people and I ended up landing on Colonial and it wasn't even because of pricing. It was just I wanted to be done with it. I didn't care for the initial guy. I felt he was aggressive. There was a number of people I had talked to, but as it ended up, it was okay. The long and short of it was, it was a very long move. It was 2,400 miles. One of the legs of my my couch was broken. Something substantially had to really slam it. Some things might have been our fault by packing like some dishes. That was definitely not their fault. So, things were broken but I didn't file a complaint. I just wanted to let it go because I really liked the movers. I liked the guys. The guys were great. It was the same guy that drove all the way across the country sleeping in that truck to make it here.

As far as Colonial's customer service, that was a little sketchy. I was talking to Anastasia initially, and then we started getting a better groove on but she was aggressive, too. It was a weird thing. There are a lot of brokers. I just recently found out that when you call movers, sometimes you're talking to brokers and they're very aggressive. They want the business, and it was a world I wasn't even aware of. Other than that, I'm fairly happy with the price with Colonial. Their online tools weren't bad. There were notifications and updates.

I read reviews about Colonial Van Lines and talked with a representative on the phone, and they seemed competent and reasonable. We did a walkthrough inventory of everything, and I took pictures for them, so they had a visual sense of what would be moved. I was moving a lot because almost everything I own is handmade by a family member, and there was little that I didn't want to bring. I did not want to just sell things that have been in my family for a long time. So, it was a full load.

I was very impressed with the movers. There were two men. An older man went over paperwork with me and talked about their process. The other one just got to work. I had, for months, been packing boxes, so there were things that were ready to go. I told them I have an elderly pet cat who might be upset, and they were extremely respectful. She was sitting in a chair watching, and they made that the last thing they loaded. I just thought, “You're just nice human beings being kind to an animal and to me because it didn't make me have to worry about my cat.” They were very good at their job, and they went right to it. They were friendly and didn't waste time. I felt they were very professional.

Moving is not a pleasant experience, but Colonial certainly did not exacerbate that. I was not at the destination because I was driving from Minnesota to Massachusetts. So, my son was going to meet them. As it happened, they got there later than expected, and my son had to leave. He did give them a generous tip, and they unloaded at a storage facility who also have been very nice and helpful for me. So, that part of the move was as smooth as a move could go.

I was looking for a mover and ended up finding Colonial Van Lines online. I made a couple calls and really liked the person I talked to. they made me feel like they were gonna be on top of things. the same person was gonna handle it from beginning to end, and On the companies that I compared, Colonial Van Lines had the best price. the move was about 1,000 miles, from Ohio to Florida, and They were very good. plus, I made it easy on them, because somebody from another moving company came to the house and did an inventory and pictures, but I thought they were ridiculously high. that's why I started looking for moving companies. So, unfortunately for them, I had 85% of the inventory figured out.

That whole moving situation is so crazy. Who could ever be prepared for all of it? the moving company did as much as it could to prepare me and the customer service was good. however, two days before we were moving to Florida, I was in a car accident. the car that we were driving down to Florida with all the animals was totaled. it was the most insane thing i could ever imagine going through in my life. It happens at once. Life goes nice and quiet for months and sometimes years, then two minutes of my life changes everything. I was in the hospital for two days. They told everybody I was gonna die. This was the last few days of our move. There were no hotels and We had no house. Our house was already gone. Our second car had already shipped to Florida, so we had no car either.

The driver on both ends of our move was absolutely fantastic. he had a different moving crew on either end, but he coordinated everything. I wasn't even there when the truck arrived in Florida because I didn't have my phone when i was in the hospital. on Friday night at 8 o'clock, I got the message that he was gonna be at my house at 8 o'clock on Saturday morning. it was Not his fault. He’d left a long time earlier. We had to call somebody to come and get everything organized to my house for me and be there for the mover.

originally, I was flying down with the cat and my partner and our best friend was gonna drive my SUV down with the two dogs and the parakeet. That was the plan. So, then I had to get on the phone on Saturday morning and find a rental SUV that a rental company was willing to give up, that we could leave in Florida after we got here. that took hours. I found that, rescheduled my flights and got down. once we got here, everything's been wonderful.

A couple things, we did find eventually, were broken, but I don't think it was anybody's fault, ‘cause we packed some of the stuff too. we didn't pay for them to pack everything. I would recommend Colonial Van Lines. I was happy with them. i would give them 5 stars and a lot of it was the driver that came. He was so on top of stuff and knew what he was doing.

We were looking for a moving company and based off the price point, we went with Colonial Van Lines. To have them come, pack all of our stuff, and drive it all over, it made the most sense to go with them. My girlfriend was also one week post-op surgery, so using their service was the lowest effort we had to do, and that was perfect. We Googled and gave them an estimate, then we told them what we had, and the numbers were pretty close together. It ended up being 2,000 pounds more than we expected, but it wasn't far off. So, it just worked out.

On moving day, they showed up a day early, so we got to get out a day early, which was great. Then they loaded everything in, which took about half a day, then we shook hands, and they said they'd see us the next day. Then they dropped all of our stuff off the next day and it was about as smooth as it could get. We moved from right outside Houston, to Pensacola, and I have zero complaints about their service. We were thrilled. My girlfriend was nervous about how were they going to move things because she always wants to be involved. But after we saw everything packed up into the truck, we were thankful that we didn't have to do that. It was three flights of stairs, and they made it look really easy.

Also, they were on the phone every day, the day the movers came, and the day the movers dropped off. They were asking us how everything was and making sure everything was smooth. Overall, Colonial was worth the money. It was worth being able to sit back, relax, and have someone come help you do the move. Even after we were overweight a little bit, we were happy to pay the extra money because it caused us very little stress and they did a hell of a job.

Colonial Van Lines did a good job. We went from Kissimmee to Lincoln. They also brought one of our cars. There was a China cabinet that we had to box up that we didn't know about. That was a little extra. Otherwise, the estimate was pretty accurate. The drivers were a little late getting to us, but they were working with somebody else. They gave us a window, but they were one day late getting to us when they picked up. But they got it to our place within the time frame. We liked them.

They wrapped the furniture. We liked how they did all that. Some of our stuff got broken, but it was some cheaper stuff. They lost a table, and one of our couches, but it got broken. But it was plastic on the bottom. Some other stuff was just particle board. But that stuff happens. They deliver to a bunch of different places. It was a cheaper thing that we didn't get. They were nice guys. And it would have been hard for us.

NIGHTMARE! There are too many other moving options out there to risk going through what I went through. First, Colonial doesn’t tell you that they will subcontract your move out, so you don’t know who you’re dealing with until AFTER you sign the contract. The driver/moving company I got was unprofessional and threatening. Driver tried to add additional fees and make me overpay, plus sign blank forms. Complained to Colonial, and the subcontractor’s response to my complaint was to hold my load hostage and not delivery it in a timely manner. Colonial could never tell me where my load actually was. The contract had a very generous 5-day delivery window even though the distance was only a 10 HOUR drive.

I finally got my load 10 DAYS later. Colonial’s system overestimates the weight, and they never produced any weight tickets. Spent over $2,000 in additional expenses waiting for the delivery. Load was finally delivered by a 3rd moving company. Customer service at Colonial was useless, and offered a whole $100 to make up for all the threats, additional time, expense, and stress I had to deal with. Filed formal complaint with the BBB and D.O.T. Again, too many other moving options out there to risk it.

I came across Colonial Van Lines on the internet and I called them and set it up. It was a pretty good size move. It took a good portion of a big semi. We relocated from North Carolina to Florida. It came out at 1,000 pounds heavier than what they estimated, but there were no issues with working with them. They were very thorough and followed up frequently.

On both ends, the moving crews were very good. Unfortunately, we didn't catch a couple of issues. We have one of the Sleep Number beds. In fact, I've got people coming to try to fix it today. I don't know what the issue is at this point yet. Then the refrigerator that goes in our garage, which was basically a brand-new one, has got two dents in it. But I didn't catch it in time to claim that. Other than that, they were productive and they were nice guys.

We decided to move out of Massachusetts and I recognized Colonial Van Lines as a known brand. I assumed that the service would be good due to social media pressure. It was a safe bet so I decided to go with them. The coordinator was fine, and the crew and vehicle movers were awesome. They were on time. Everybody was very polite, nice and professional, especially Glass City Movers, which was the subcontractor. They were excellent. Things happen and don’t exactly go by schedule. I understand and am not upset by that. It was a little sloppy on our end. We just did it by the seat of our pants. But it seems to have worked out well. It wasn't perfect, but it was acceptable.

The move was expensive but worth the money. Colonial made a complicated thing not so complicated. They did a lot of the background work. It was flawless, considering everything that could happen. The biggest problem I had was that the furniture pick-up was delayed. It didn't go according to schedule and it cost me about $1,000 extra in hotel rooms. So, I'd be prepared for that if you're gonna move.

The initial person I spoke with from Colonial Van Lines walked through the house with me using my cell phone and gave me an estimate. After talking to three other companies, I trusted him, and he was the one I wanted to work with. He was helpful and patient. I kept calling him back with questions, and he was always willing to help. I loved the customer service and he sold me on Colonial. Later, I was assigned to another representative, but I had difficulty understanding her, so I called my original contact and explained that I was having trouble communicating. He immediately had me reassigned to someone else, and that experience was much better.

The price was shocking because we had never moved across the country before. It was about $10,000, but it was competitive with the other companies we checked. We packed most of our belongings, and the movers handled the move. The moving company Colonial used was Premium Moving and we didn't have a problem with that. They packed some of the bigger items, including couches, an electric piano, a bicycle, and garage items. The same crew handled both ends of the move. I walked them through the new house and showed them what goes in which room. They placed everything in the rooms we requested and helped unwrap some furniture and larger items. But the movers damaged a number of items, and what was covered under the contract was very little compared to what was damaged.

We had problems with the pickup and delivery schedule because we were given delivery information, but our shipment arrived about three days later than expected. During that time, I kept calling to find out where our belongings were and whether they had even left Texas. The rep I was speaking with did not have the information and had to keep checking with dispatch because the move was being handled by another company. If I were to use Colonial again, which I probably would, I would insist on having a Colonial van because going through the dispatcher to get information was very difficult. And when I complained about it and asked for restitution, I got the floor manager, who was very mean on the phone. She offered me $200 and said if I did not take it right then, it would not be offered again. Then she hung up on me. That was a bad experience.

The girl I had been talking to every day called me back and said she's working on something. Then, I got an email from another floor manager. We had gone over the original weight estimate, but in the end, we didn’t have to pay for the overweight charges and gave me 200, which equaled about $2,700, and I was happy with that. The process was a bit of a rigmarole because of the delivery delay. If it was a Colonial Van, it would not have been that difficult. But we're dealing with a third party. So, I'm gonna give them a grace period on that.

Colonial Van Lines was the cheapest or most affordable after I did a comparison of three different companies. I told Colonial everything that I needed moved, and they gave me a quote based on what I could fit on a truck, pounds per parcel. They gave me a total of 2,000 pounds. But hidden fees weren’t discussed in the conversation over the phone. So, I thought I was paying for everything to be packed.

If I wanted a TV put up, Colonial would charge me for a box and bubble wrap. If I wanted a better form of protection for my couch, they’d charge me an extra couple of things. It was unforeseen. And if the weight of what I have to move exceeds the pounds that I was given in the quote, it's an extra cost. You should have extra money set aside. Still, the biggest benefit out of it is the convenience of not having to do it myself. The actual movers were great. But I had to call and get a lot of the updates. It wasn't the most professional, but they got the job done. In a minute or two, I'll have to use it again.

But a move across the country is always expensive. So, you pay a lot. We had a good experience with Colonial. There were some minor nicks and some minor damage, but mostly cosmetic. There was nothing that worked improperly or couldn't be fixed with one of those moving markers. They took good care of our things. The movers that they sent were fantastic, friendly, professional and courteous. All the things that you want on a mover. They kept lines of communication open the whole time and were honest. There was a nick on the dresser and the movers were upfront about it. He came over and pointed it out to me. He was very professional.

I had a list and pictures of my inventory, and they were able to provide a quote without making the process complicated. I chose Colonial Van Lines based on a combination of the price on the quote and the reviews I had read. I also did a check on the Better Business Bureau and they had positive things there.

I was moving from Kansas City to Illinois, which is about a seven-hour drive. The rep who helped me with the inventory was very helpful and responsive, and I was happy with all of that. The services and expectations were accurate, though things like arrival times were not. But the movers kept me informed on the whole process, where they were and when they would arrive. They were good about calling. The movers themselves were great. It was a good team of guys, and they were very friendly, helpful and accommodating. We had to move around the house while they packed different furniture, but they were working hard and were also in a good mood. It was nice to work with them. I was very pleased with the experience and was satisfied with the price I paid. If I had to move again, I would consider using Colonial Van Lines again.

I really liked what they had to say. I was very, very happy with my move. They stayed with me through the whole process. There was no what's next type thing. They kept me in the loop, which I really appreciated. So, they've been awesome.

After I talked to them and then finally agreed to go with them, they stayed with me the whole time. Before the move, the guys came and did a great job packing. This was not a big move. I'm retired. So, I moved with my daughter in California. I didn't have lots and lots of furniture. It was just a partial move. But they did good. They held my hand through the whole move. I needed an out-of-state mover, and I used Google to search in the area. Colonial Van Lines came up and had some good reviews, and I had them do an estimate, which seemed okay. It was a one-bedroom apartment move because my son was going to school at Vanderbilt in Nashville. I took pictures of everything for the inventory. The moving day went smoothly as far as the pickup was concerned. We got down there on a Monday, and the things came on a Wednesday, but it came with a couple of hours' notice instead of the couple of days we were supposed to have. The guys did a good job with the delivery, but we were a little caught off guard that we could not figure out when everything was coming.

I later learned that it was not Colonial who delivered it. Colonial hired somebody else to deliver it, and they were having trouble figuring out when it was going to get there. You need to be flexible on when the stuff's going to be delivered because they're not going to give you a specific date, much less a specific time. You just need to be ready and be prepared for the unexpected a little bit. But the guys who delivered the furniture to Nashville did a good job. They had to put together a desk set, which they thought would take a couple of hours but ended up taking seven or eight hours. We may have been charged more at the hourly rates, but that was expected, and I don't blame them for that. If the quote was off, it was not very much, or I would have said something about that. The quote versus the final price was fine.

The customer service from Colonial Van Lines was good. Sometimes it was difficult to reach my particular agent, but eventually someone would get back to me and answer any questions I had. The only negative thing about the move was that they delayed it by a day. We had a window of the 6th of July, and for some reason, it was delayed to the 7th. That made it hard on our end because we had our vehicles coming to be picked up by a truck that we had to delay, and we also had to call the airlines and delay our flight down here to Florida by a day. So, we weren't too happy about that.

We had made this date or appointment with Colonial months in advance, so it's not like we called up and needed a mover two weeks before we needed one. At the last minute, they were able to get a subcontractor to move our stuff. They came late at night, around 9 o'clock, and were able to pick it up. But we were still delayed a day and we were never told why the delay happened. The prices were a little on the high side, and we probably should have been compensated in some way because we had to delay our flight and our vehicle transporter. But the subcontractor was able to move everything down here, and nothing got broken or lost. We're happy in that regard, so we called it a draw at that point. We are also happy that it happened and nothing was broken or lost.

I reached out to them by phone and as it turned out, the same rep that I had talked to the last time we moved was still working with them. He already had all my information and was very helpful. The estimate was in line with other companies that we researched. At the end of the move, there might have been a $600 difference, but it was pretty close to what we had been quoted.

The pickup was a little bit jumbled. They misjudged the date by a day. We were ready to move on a Monday but they told us they couldn't make it until Tuesday. It threw our plans into the air because we were closing on a house where we are. It was the morning they were supposed to arrive that I got the call that they had to push me back a day. Colonial Van Lines seemed reputable, and I had already been ripped off by another company. I moved from Roswell, Georgia, to Folly Beach, South Carolina and dealing with the rep was good. I was ready on moving day, and everything came out good with the moving team. When they got here, my son was asleep and they couldn't get in, so I had everything moved to a storage bin. I haven't unpacked everything yet, but all my furniture seemed to be okay. The price was high because I didn't check anywhere else, but I had to have it done, so I went with it.

I got several quotes from a few other companies. Colonial Van Lines was right there with competitive pricing and they gave me a better assurance on when pickup and delivery were going to happen. I described everything that I had in my apartment over the phone, and they roughly calculated it the same way that everybody else does. It was basic estimation on cubic feet.

The mover called me ahead of time saying he was on his was and how far he was, and everything was really simple. I left the place open and they did their business. They moved everything carefully, packed everything up right away, and took everything with no issues. Everything was exactly the way that they explained it was going to be. There was only one issue as far as an upcharge was because my new place had a small driveway. Outside of that, everything was roughly exactly where it was supposed to be. They did what they said they were going to do, and there really wasn't any kind of complications or hiccups.

The people from Colonial Van Lines were very professional. They were thorough, informative, and easy to talk to. They were great. I have nothing bad to say about them. I did a lot of research, and Colonial was the most reasonable financially with good reviews. The move went fine. They wrapped up all my furniture, loaded it, took care of it, and delivered it the next day. The two guys were wonderful people. I'd use Colonial again if I needed to.

I was looking for another mover. I used two other movers before, and they were horrible. They broke all my stuff. Colonial Van Lines was the one that I should have went with first, but I looked them up and Colonial, and then I called. I spoke to a lady, left a message about what I needed, and then I got a call back within three to four minutes. The service was priced well. They picked up about 90% of my stuff, and then I had to have them pack a bed for me. They did great on that. Everything arrived non-broken. Everything arrived in the timely manner that they said it was. I gotta move my parents out here to Texas. We're gonna use them to move my parents out here.

I found Colonial through Google, and I liked their pricing. The main person I dealt with was excellent. I just gave them a detailed list of what I had. Then when they got there, they evaluated it and found some other stuff. They left one thing behind though. I had a palette that I painted the flag, and they left that. They forgot about it. There was other stuff in the front yard that had to go, which they got, but they just happened to miss this one thing. It's only a palette. The truck broke down and it took a week for my stuff to get to my house. It's a 13-hour drive. They were coming from New Jersey, going to Kennesaw, Georgia. I don't know where it broke down. I just was waiting for updates of when my delivery would happen, and I didn't find out about the breakdown until the day of delivery. The moving crew was excellent. Colonial was very communicative, and that was good, except for the fact that I didn't know the truck broke down.

Colonial Van Lines' prices were good, and they had good reviews as far as I could see. I was moving from Oregon to Colorado for a job. The moving coordinator was good. The price ended up being quite a bit more than it had been estimated. Everything went smoothly. My only comment is I was not aware that they had subcontractors, and the one that came to Colorado, the sign on his truck was like with paper. It wasn't professional. If I hadn't been in the process already, I would have felt a little weird about that. Otherwise, it was fine.

I got prices from a handful of larger companies, and Colonial Van Lines was cheaper than the other one. I was moving in about 1,400 miles. They did an estimate over the phone. Another moving company came out and surveyed the whole house. They were more accurate in the estimated amounts of things than Colonial was, but it was okay. How they handled our items during the move was okay but it wasn't great. They packed a lot of stuff. We packed a little bit. Overall, they did a good enough job.
