The gentleman with Colonial that I talked to, Louis, was very thorough and gave me exactly what they were going to do, whereas the other gentleman I talked to didn't give me that information. Louis told me who would be calling and when they would be calling. He set my expectations, which I liked. The moving crew was late but they were very efficient. They did everything I asked and worked continuously. I was exhausted watching them. It totally amazed me what they put in their truck. They also cleaned up after themselves.

The rep with Colonial was very attentive. The communication was wonderful through the whole experience. He was constantly sending emails to update us. I had to cancel two or three different times but they were very good at letting me adjust then keeping in touch with me about all the steps. The other guy was good at calling and coordinating about when they were going to be there. My husband had bubble wrapped everything and they rewrapped a lot of stuff. They got it all on a 26-foot truck and delivered them to my brother's garage.

Colonial was the quickest to respond to our initial request. They came back and helped schedule the time. They were very upfront about the costs. They were helpful and walked us through exactly what we were looking for. What could have been improved was the coordination from the dispatch team. I got a couple of calls a couple different times from two or three different people that knew what was going on, but needed to talk to somebody else. They were always in the ballpark. More information is better than none at all but still didn't quite know who was coordinating anyone. But the guys showed up when they told us they were going to show up. They did a great job packing up and dropping off our belongings to the new place. They were delicate with our belongings too.
The cost was cheaper than we thought it was. When we budgeted from a weight perspective, it was a little less than when they put it on the scale. The quoting process that the team did was accurate enough that we didn't have a nasty surprise. It actually was a pleasant surprise. It's always the better one to get. If we ever plan on moving again, we would happily use Colonial.

We liked that Colonial Van Lines was national and they and seemed more reliable. However, there were some complications in getting it set up. Initially, we had a window of the 17th to the 19th. We needed to be out of our place by the 20th and we were told that it was going to delay until at least the 20th. Then there were a few days where it seemed to go back and forth. They were able to pick us up before we needed to be moved out but that was a surprising part of the process. Also, Colonial was one of the more expensive ones that we looked at. Ours ended up being right at the minimum in terms of the amount of stuff we had. That was not as cost-effective as if we had gone with some others. But the quotes that we got appeared to be very reliable. It ended up what we were told we'd be charged and what we were charged in the end corresponded as well.
It seemed there were supposed to have been more than one person originally who had been assigned for the unloading at the end of the trip, and it ended up being just one person. On the loading side, there were three or four. The person who unloaded did well and it was done in as reasonable amount of time as could be expected but they needed a little bit of help at some point. That was disappointing that we had to jump in and help. It wasn't their fault but we paid for the service so that we wouldn't have to do as much of that and ended up having to do it for some of the very large, heavy things.

Slow truck to Seattle - Out contract with Colonial states that our furnishings would arrive at our new home in Seattle no later than May 11th, after being picked up in Florida on April 22nd. It is now May 22nd, and we have just been told, AGAIN, that delivery will be delayed, and might arrive by May 27th. That is five weeks! It takes four days for a moving van to legally drive across America, obeying all the safety hours and rules. So why is it taking five weeks to get here?
It is distressing to be told five times that our household goods will arrive on a certain, but delayed date, only to repeatedly be later told that there is yet another delay, for yet another reason. We have had to adjust ad reschedule numerous times because Colonial told us a delivery date that turned out to be wrong. I have no idea how much time we have had to waste because of Colonial's scheduling errors. Meanwhile it is costing us thousands because a Colonial contracted hauler has equipment failures and other reasons for weeks of delay.
It was my mistake to believe Colonial salespeople. They appear to in effect be just another broker, at least for our moving. I have seen no Colonial truck and am informed that the company with all the equipment problems is not a Colonial van. I strongly recommend finding a more reliable mover.

The dispute with Colonial was resolved. They refunded the extra charges. We're all good.
Original Review: May 22, 2022
Colonial Van Lines must be one of the worse moving companies in the business. On March 30th 2022, I moved from California to Florida. The Colonial salesperson, Colin ** was not friendly. He was impatient and annoyed if I asked any questions. I gave him an accurate list of all the items to be moved, then he promised "one price all-inclusive" for $9500. Read on for the big surprise! When the truck arrived, the driver thought it was a local move instead of an out of state move. He only brought two packers (the company promised four). He asked me to lie about it. He said: “If Colonial calls tell them we have four packers”… What? This guy was skimming. And they didn't have enough boxes. I had to go to Home Depot to buy more of my own boxes! It took them over one hour to call the office and get the right details about the job. Given only two men, the packing lasted 12 hours for a two-bedroom house.
The packing was sloppy and frail. They ended up breaking expensive art, furniture, broken glass tops, dented the refrigerator and lost several items as well. Over $10,000 in damages. AFTER the loading was done at 9:00 PM, the supervisor/driver (Chris) showed me a paper I could not read with all the items they loaded on the truck. The print was very small. His writing was illegible. I signed it. I had no choice. Turns out later, he logged 117 items that were not on my original list. It’s a joke right? He also logged 1100 pounds more for the load. I only added an electric piano to the list which was about 150lb. Later the finance department called me with an additional charge of $4200. Totally bogus. I had to pay it, or they would not unload the items.
It’s extortion. Additionally, some of the items were supposed to go in storage and did not. I was charged extra for a "two drops" job. They ended up unloading those items that were supposed to go in storage at my house and later I had to pay an additional $750 to a different company to move those items to my warehouse. In final, false estimate, broken, promises, broken items, and extra illegitimate charges. I called customer service and this guy Matt would not take any responsibility other than sending me a claim form. “Maybe” they will pay $.60 on the dollar for the broken items. I doubt it. He would not reimburse the illegitimate $4200 charge or pay to move the items that were dropped at my house instead of my warehouse. This is going to court. I recommend you call a different company.

Colonial's price was good compared to another quote that I received. I told them I would really appreciate it if the pick-up was on a Saturday because I work during the week. They said they would call me midweek and let me know what day it was going to be. As we got toward the middle of the week, I hadn't heard anything so I called and they told me it was going to be on Friday. I took off work and I went to the storage facility on Friday and they didn't show up. I called them and they said the truck broke down and they were going to be late. I asked how late and they said they would let me know.
The whole day went by and I didn't hear anything. They called me later in the day on Friday and told me that it was gonna be like Tuesday. I found out later that they had rerouted the load because they wanted to pick up another load from someone else. They didn't get to my storage place until Tuesday or Wednesday of the following week. I was not at all happy with how the pick-up was scheduled and carried out. That aside, the rest of the process went really well. The couple who showed up here to make the delivery were very professional. The guy really knew how to pack a truck most efficiently and they worked well together as a team. On the whole, I was disappointed on the front end and I was satisfied on the back end.

It went fairly well with Colonial Van Lines. They called me and talked to me. That was a major difference. However, I was disappointed at the communication on the front end. I have glass-door cabinets and when I was talking to the sales rep, he said, “You just empty out those cabinets, and we will blanket-wrap the empty furniture." I had asked him specifically about that. Then I made a full list of all of my stuff and he gave me a quote. But when the moving truck showed up, they said, “This stuff's not packed. These glass doors require additional crating so, it's gonna be an extra $1,400.” He was saying he was not even gonna start loading until I make that decision. I wish that had been a little better communicated to me.
I had a couple of dishes that were broken but it was a good experience overall. Everything went very smoothly. They picked up and delivered on time. Colonial Van Lines is a good company. They have good contractors. The guys that moved my parts were professional and courteous. But make sure that you fully understand what is the expected cost upfront so you don't have any surprises.

My complaint with Colonial was that, from an administrative standpoint, I got a ton of emails. Every time I got one, it had a name on it and it said they'd be following up. But then somebody different would be the follow-up person. It was very hard to know who was really my contact person and that was frustrating for me. I started with a guy, Kirk, whose customer service skills were great. He said he was gonna be my account manager, that he'd follow me through the whole process, and that he and his team will take good care of me. But he didn't say I was gonna hear from other people. Other than that, the movers were fantastic. They kept in touch with me and told me where they were and when they'd be here. Also, nothing was damaged or broken and they were very prompt in delivering at my new residence. They were excellent at doing their job and I was very happy with the service I got from them.

Colonial had lower initial appraisal and bid. If the estimate was low, their overrun pricing was lower than others in terms of cost per pound, cost per box, etcetera. The move was from Nashville to Jacksonville. I paid for packing, loading and unloading with furniture disassembly and reassembly. My company gave me about two weeks before I had to be from Nashville to my new job. I ended up driving down to the new job in Jacksonville with my pickup truck then I had to fly back to Nashville to meet the movers.
The pickup went great. The crew was there a little early and it took them a little bit longer because I had a significant amount more than the initial estimate. I anticipated this because even though I was in a one-bedroom, I downsized from a larger unit before when I moved to Nashville. The drop-off went well even though they were a little late. That was not their fault as there was horrible traffic and some severe weather that day. They got the things unloaded promptly once they got there and they got the furniture placed in the right rooms and assembled. On the whole, everything was great. Colonial was the most positive part of the moving process.

We got a couple of quotes from different companies and chose Colonial ultimately because of the price and because they were really responsive. One moving guy was sent out so I helped him because I felt bad. He was great and he said that the person who was supposed to come out with him flaked out. The only thing about this experience was there were a lot of delays. Our stuff was put in their storage facility in California for a couple of weeks. The driver mentioned it was going to be four and a half days to get them there because they were waiting on other movers. They missed their estimated time by over a week. But along the way, the representative kept us updated so that was good. It was just unfortunate because we were sleeping on an air mattress waiting for all of our stuff. In the end, everything made it nicely and safely to the destination. There was a slight difference between the initial quote and the ending bill but it wasn't major.

The rep I worked with from Colonial Van Lines was in touch frequently. She returned my phone calls, which is a 100% improvement over the first company we had selected. She did a really good job. We wanted to be able to know what was going on and she was on the ball with it. We were also super lucky because they had given us a range of delivery. They told us they had a two week window to deliver. We were hoping it wouldn't be two weeks because we would be camping out with nothing in our new home. We moved in on a Tuesday and they came on a Sunday the same week. The drivers on both ends were excellent, very professional, and did inventory on both sides, every single box and piece of furniture. They did a great job. We were really happy.

Working with Colonial Van Lines was professional and clean. The reps were all very nice. The woman who is in sales was above and beyond nice on the phone when I was getting quotes. The quote switched a couple of times. There was a slight difference, but I forgot to mention I have guitars. Just a couple of extra things they needed to pack up. It was not a big deal. It was $100 difference.
The moving company sent me a mock paperwork beforehand. But the guy that seemed to be the moving leader was kind and explained everything as we wrote it down, even though I had time to prepare to know what I would look at. He was very knowledgeable. He spoke English very well, Serbian and Spanish. It’s insane. He's a smart dude.

The Colonial Van Lines rep was very thorough and I had a good experience. However, there was a less poundage allotment that was given, for example, for a wardrobe. I was very thorough with inventory. And the other thing that I had a hard time with was, I packed up everything in our apartment, except for the kitchen, and I could not control the amount of materials that they used to pack up the kitchen. They were very thorough, but I would have preferred a couple of broken dishes than to pay $750 in packing fees. So, I wish that had been more of a communication rather than, “Thank you so much helping me pack my kitchen, but didn't wanna pay that amount.”
One pain point, as someone who works full-time and works from home, I was told I would get 48 hours notice when they were dropping off the goods, and I got a call about a half an hour before and had to race home. But they were extremely nice, very understanding, and communicative. They were also great at putting furniture back together, which was a huge plus.

After talking to Colonial Van Lines and getting quotes, their price was good. They kept in touch with me and answered any questions I had. They were very willing to go over everything with me step-by-step, as far as pricing, and how they were going to handle the move. So, the personalization that they gave to the move for us was fantastic. I had other companies that I got quotes from that were very pushy, almost to the point of bullying. But Colonial Van Lines didn’t do that. The coordinator was very good and the expectations that I had after speaking to that person went above what I expected. The experience with the account manager was very nice. They worked with us on when we needed to pay this, when we needed to pay that and how we needed to pay it. Down to the penny, what they said it was gonna be is what it was. They didn’t go up on the price.
The driver and the loaders that Colonial had were good. They were on the spot with it, being very careful with my furniture. I was expecting to have damages because of the amount of furniture I had and the size of it. They wrapped it and made sure it was padded so good, because I've got a lot of glass. Nothing was broken and nothing got damaged or scratched. I would recommend anybody in need of a moving company to go to Colonial.

It went, overall, well, but there were a lot of hidden fees, which were far beyond what was quoted. The movers claimed they still had to pack and box stuff. It was almost $100 per box and it just accumulated. The prices increased from the time of my original quote. I was also not aware that Colonial Van Lines has a third party, so from pickup to drop off, there was another company with the truck and the moving labor. The communication outside of that was strong though.

We talked on the phone to set up the move and then they sent me the information to fill out. I sent it back and they continually followed up with me to make sure everything was in line. They showed up a little bit earlier than I expected, which was really nice. They were helpful as far as some of the things that I had neglected to mention or I forgot to tell them. I thought everything was packed by my standards, but apparently, it wasn't and they were very kind and very good about it. They told me how much it was going to cost if they wrap all the stuff and they brought up extra material. They had it all with them and it was very convenient.
My only complaint, if any, was that it was more expensive than I expected it to be. It ended up being a very expensive move because of how much crap I had. But they were very communicative about that and they offered to help me figure out how much weight I should really be claiming. Also, they were pretty good about following up with me and asking how my experience was. They called me back several times before I even finished unpacking to find out how the experience went.

I was in the process of getting bids from different companies when I was in Myrtle Beach and Colonial happened to pop up on my computer. I checked on them and did a little bit of background check. I ended up calling them. Their rep was very cordial. I've moved enough times that I can tell when somebody is trying to pull some wool. He was surprised that I was able to come back to him with some things about the trucking industry. He backed up and regrouped when told him I drove a tractor-trailer for seven years across the country. He knew that he couldn't bamboozle me.
The rep was trying to do me a favor and the driver was wanting to come in early. He told dispatch not to let them come in. They dropped the ball and never called me to tell me that they wouldn't be there. I stayed up most of the night to try to finish getting everything packed and ready to go. I ended up sitting there waiting for a whole day. When I called and talked to him, he owned up to it right away. He said, “That's totally on me. I did that. I didn't think you would be ready.” But I am always ready when the truck shows up.
The two guys that came out were very nice. One was very accommodating and he helped me out with a few things, which I told him ahead of time. One was with my TV. It was a big TV and it was too big for me and too heavy for me to handle by myself. I have the box here and I needed somebody to help me pick up the TV and put it in the box. Once he saw that I needed the help, he that was not my job. He and his helper put it in the box and they padded it very well. I had some glass and he was really afraid to take it because he was afraid it was going to get broken. I said, “If you wrap it in your pads, even if you have to wrap it twice, it should be fine. Unless you set something on top of it or it just literally falls without the padding, then we’re gonna have an issue.” He padded it.
They were there at 8 o'clock in the morning and were done by 2 o'clock. I had everything boxed up and ready to go for the most part. I had enough phone numbers for the different people. They made sure that I had enough people that I could contact. To make sure that even if I couldn't get ahold of one I wanted, I had somebody else that I could contact then they could do their thing inside the building with whoever it was that I needed to talk to. I had the driver’s cell number as well.
When he loaded up, he said, “I live in Virginia, would you mind if I took an extra day and went home to see my kids for at least 24 hours?” That was fine with me. My husband and I drove cross country so I understand. I was not here when he showed up. But he called me and he said, “I'm here. Can I start unloading?” I said I would be there in about five minutes. When I got here, they already started unloading. I was running back and forth. I assumed I had everything. It took them five hours to load and two hours to unload.
On the whole, there were a few little issues, but nothing that I was going to complain about. The one thing that threw me for a curve was there were three of them unloading the truck and they had me busy running back and forth between the truck and here in the house. One of them hit one of the corners on the doorways and knocked the drywall off the corner about the size of a quarter and they didn't tell me about it. They were gone by the time I saw it. It wasn't the end of the earth and it wasn’t life-threatening. But it put a sour taste in my mouth. It would have been better if they had just said, “We had an accident. This is what we just did. We want you to know about it.”

Thank you for sharing your positive experience regarding your recent move. I appreciate you taking the time to let us know how we are doing here at Colonial Van Lines. I want to wish you all the best at your new location and in all your future endeavors. Thank you.

Do not use this company for any of your moving needs. I have a move from Fresno, CA to Dallas, TX in March 2022. My items were in short term storage and to be delivered in TX a few weeks after pick up. My account manager Tamia stated that my items would be delivered on 3/26. That day came and no call no show from driver. That night they called and said they would be delivered on 3/27. They charged me $775 bucks for a shuttle fee to deliver my items even though there was PLENTY of room for a semi truck to be able to deliver my items and per my contract they would be able to deliver them if there was room.
On 3/27 when my items were delivered several items were broken, every box was smashed and the driver stated there were several boxes left in Austin that he didn't know what to do with because they were leaking. Here I am a week later and no idea how many boxes I am truly missing. I know it is at least two. No response and no info from the account manager and the company doesn't know what's going on. Save yourself the trouble and DO NOT USE THIS UNETHICAL COMPANY!

The rep was very clear and a very good person. Good communication. Pickup was made on Wednesday, 16th of March, and delivery happened on 26th Saturday. The movers were good, hardworking people. The only thing that was a bit surprising was Colonial hired a third party company to do the moving. I wish I was told about that, that it’s not the Colonial’s own employed people who will come to pack and drive and deliver them. That is one thing that many people will not like. And if you were doing that, you should tell your customer that, “It will not be the Colonial’s own crew. We’ll be outsourcing this project and another company will show up.” But the people who came there were good people. They did their best to work.
We still do not have a couple of items accounted for. We opened all the boxes. Part of a kitchen rack or case has missing parts that prevents us from using it because it will leak water. Also, one cover for a hanging chair was torn apart. So, I reached out to Colonial. But I haven't heard back from them for several days. Those are the two things I'm hoping Colonial will address to refund.
We made an update during the process of ramping up to the packing days. And the estimate went up by a few hundred dollars. That was not surprising because we added and deleted some items, and the addition was more than deletion. But the final movers claimed that because of needing additional packaging material for the corner curio which has some glass windows, they billed some $350 more than the quote, which was a surprise to me, that everybody will understand that this is a showpiece type furniture and it will have glass. So I thought the initial estimate would include additional packaging needed for protection of glass.
That remained an unresolved topic. I told Colonial that they have it coded and after moving, before the day of delivery, they asked for $350 more, and without that, they will not deliver it. I had to pay for it but the Colonial team said that they would address it once they had more clarification about what was the additional packing, if all that increased the estimare. All of my items remained within the estimated weight for shipping, because the only term and condition was if the weight goes beyond the 5,800 pounds, then there will be a specific pound rate increase, which I understand. It didn't go beyond that. The three things remain unresolved - the broken item and the missing parts, and the unexpected increase in the estimate. If they're resolved with either good proof or to refund, then Colonial becomes a strong recommendation.

Colonial won't last. Once they have your life packed on a truck you are at the mercy of a company that does not care or have the capacity to to do the job right. Lies at every stage of the move. Poorly packed, mis-labeled boxes, trailers and trucks that are falling apart, short staffed, unapologetic support, I could write a book on everything that went wrong. By far the most mishandled and stressful move I have ever had.
Showed up a day late to start, took one double shift day longer to pack than promised, trailer leaked and I was asked to fix it, delays in delivery due to failing equipment, Inventory is a joke, once delivered good luck finding anything you are looking for in the vaguely / mislabeled boxes. Cross your fingers that the poorly packed boxes don't contain broken, beat up items. Had to leave stuff behind because of poor space estimate. Stuff we said should be left behind was packed and stuff we needed to move had to be abandoned. Truly, nothing went right.

It was a very good experience with Colonial Van Lines. They were very professional. Things went as expected. They delivered everything on time. The team at Colonial Van Lines, especially Veronica and Joseph with whom I worked with, were very responsive and helpful. Their price was also very competitive and within budget for me.
The crew was very accommodating. I told them my problem with the place where they were going to pick up all the luggage. They had a 16-wheel truck scheduled to pick up, but they thought that that might not fit in my area. So they sent out a smaller truck to make sure it goes well. They were very good. They were helpful and very responsive. I was pretty much prepared for them to pick up, except during my car pick up, the guy gave me time between 3:00 to 5:00. He called me at 4 o'clock. At 4 o'clock, I was at my friend's place to drop off some stuff. I told him that I'm stuck in traffic. I'd be there, but I'd be late, but he didn't wait. That was the only hiccup I had. But I took it upon myself because it was the issue from my side.

Original Review: March 26, 2022
In February I begin to research companies. I requested a quote and got four responses Colonial Vân Lines was one of my quotes. The sales guy (Jonathan) was friendly and professional. He gave me some advice about staying away from a Brokerage company because they were a rip off. They would take my money and leave hanging as they try to find a company to move me. I didn't want that experience, so I listened to him. As I continued to look at quotes from other companies, Jonathan continued to call. It was all a scam to get me to go with his company. They decided they would match any offer I received, so I believe this was a reputable company I was dealing with at the beginning. So, after thinking about it, I decided I would go Colonial because Jonathan assured me, they were not a brokerage company and the movers would be on time and I would get my items shipped on time to me.
On the day They arrived everything changed. It was not a moving company from Colonial Van Lines, but another company they contract out to. I called the company, my manager was not available and enquired on who this company was and was told "oh we don't have trucks available to move you, so we contract out your move to this company." Well, I knew I was in trouble because they did not honor the initial inventory agreement. I was stuck because I had to move on February 3 because I have to drive from California to Memphis, TN. by February 7. Which I had arranged to get to my new apartment before the movers. I was already packed. They continued to deny things I could take. I end up throwing out a lot of my things.
One of their concerns was they had to be 75 feet from apartment. Their truck had to be able to park 75 feet away from my apartment, and if they could not park, I would have to pay for a shuttle service. Well, I assured them they could park right next to my building. They end up parking in the street on the right side and cars just went around them. After they continue to pack me, one of the movers said, "Since you are throwing items out we can take more boxes," and they did. They left my apartment on February 3. They were suppose to leave with my items on the 7th of February heading to Memphis. I realized they were operating like a brokerage company. The company that picked my up said they did not work for Colonial Van Lines they work for Cal Lines.
I got to my apartment on the 8th of February. I assumed the movers were right behind me, I got a call from Manager, Tamia, she said, "I need your new address," and I gave it to her nd then she informed me the movers were not going to be there on the 11th, The move had been moved back and she would call me. Well, I was forced to buy items that set on their truck. I spent on $500 dollars buying things I needed. The next time she called, she said eta date for your items. I was upset. I told her I needed my things. I told her I was buying things that were sitting on that truck. She apologized and said, "I will call you when I have a date and time." I told her to have supervisor call me because they should compensate me for the daily. She called back and said they would compensate at a rate of 30 dollars. I was in disbelief. I disagreed with her. She said she had to get approved.
The next call I received I was told the movers would be there on Monday March 7th. I was angry, frustrated and asked about my compensation. She said 330 dollars would be taken from my bill. I agreed. This company Cal Lines started calling me. I spoke to a young lady name Yonie. She said, "Can we come Sunday," I told her I was out of town. She said okay, Monday will be the date. Then she said they needed me to pay before the movers arrived and I refused. This is when they began to threaten to not deliver my furniture. I told them I wanted to physically see my items. They got irate. Their manager called and said if I did not pay today, which was Saturday the 5th, I would pay in cash. My agreement with Colonial Van Lines was I could pay with a credit card. They said no credit card, I had to pay with cash. I refused.
Then Colonial called and said I needed to pay a shuttle fee. I was flabbergasted. I told them my apartment complex was wide enough for an 18 wheeler and called my manager at Colonial. She said I had to pay in cash. I question why they were honoring their agreement with me. I had a first floor apartment near the exit. I asked them if they had talked to anyone at the Apartment Managers office to see what the measure were for large side vehicles they said no.
Monday arrived and they came in a Uhaul. I knew large said Vehicles had been here. I had seen them. They arrived and demanded I pay. I said no, I was not paying in cash and refused to pay the shuttle fee. I was told I would not get my furniture. They sat outside of my door for 45 minutes and then they drove away. I was adamant, I was not paying in cash. The second company was very rude and so was the driver. A manager from Colonial, Benjamin called and said to pay in cash or not get my furniture. Again, I refused. He then said, "I will give you a compensation because we did have your address for four weeks and we did not mention the shuttle was needed." He said, "Pay them and I will send an email detailing a compensation package." I agreed to pay with a credit card. They begin to unload the truck. I was on the phone with both companies at the same time and back and forth.
I noticed after I paid with my credit card pink tape on all my boxes. I had packed everything myself. The driver said please sign stating I had received my items. I didn't have an opportunity to count. I signed then asked for a copy. He refused. I asked why not. He said they don't give them out. Colonial would send a receipt. I took pictures of each page. I knew that was wrong, but I was mentally drained, and the gentlemen were not the friendliest. I wanted them out of my apartment. They did not wear mask even though I gave one a mask and required them to wear mask. They left, that is when I discovered missing boxes, broken items, vacuum cleaner, tv, bowls, antique bowl. The worse experience of my life. They say they are not a brokerage company, but they operate like one. Now when I call, I can't get anyone to return my calls. No email about my compensation.

It was a very good experience with Colonial. They told me exactly what the cost would be and it was only $5 off. They did a very good job of estimating the weight. The senior moving agent was very informative. He kept communicating and wanted me to get with him if the smallest thing went wrong. He was, customer service-wise, all over everything. The other agent, on the other hand, sounded like she was bored and just getting through it, talking fast. She was not a good customer service representative for the company. The interaction was very dry. She wasn't a happy person. But the people that Colonial used to do my loading/unloading were extremely nice and did a very good job. The only thing I had was one tiny broken bowl but that was fine. It was probably my packing more so than the moving.

Best estimated cost. Too many contacts. Lack of management of delivery. Pick up went very smoothly. Had to pay for an extra day delay in loading ($500). Delivery was the worst experience we have had in many moves as a career military family. Again we paid for two extra days for delivery ($1,000) date and storage which could have been eliminated if the driver had changed his delivery route. Our antique dining room table legs and pedestal were broken and glued without informing us. The delivery driver stated he did not do it. Most of the Colonial reps were responsive and professional. Caution: be sure you know about the "window" for delivery dates and that the drivers are contracted and have a significant responsibility for your items.

Let me start by saying I've done several long distance moves: HI to CT, CT to FL, FL to PA, and this PA to FL. This experience has been the WORST moving experience I've ever had. Here is what I was "sold" vs what I received:
#1 Received - one of their "agent" companies did the actual move using Ryder trucks. Further, the agent company (BCM Relocation) hired day labors to assist their driver with the move. When goods were delivered, one of the day labors was stopped from working due to the police needing to speak with him regarding a hit & run accident.
#2 Sold - two payments made by credit card (deposit and drop off).#2 Received - BCM Relocation demanded $1000 upon pickup and the rest upon delivery. When I fought with BCM Relocation people (who called me a ** on the phone), they told me if I had a problem that I needed to contact Colonial because they were my contract company. After agreeing to receive payment upon delivery, they retaliated by refusing to accept credit card payment and demanded cash/cashier's check.
#3 Sold - acct manager would contact me a few days prior to pickup/delivery for date confirmation.#3 Received - acct manager called the night before pickup to tell me of pickup and the driver of the vehicle called at 9:30pm to tell me delivery would happen at 10am the next morning.
#4 Sold - weight estimate of 3500 based on inventory.#4 Received - weight of 4700 and no proof/documentation to justify the additional weight.
#5 Sold - communication throughout the move.#5 Received - couldn't reach anyone on move team for a week; was assured management would reach out to me, but it never happened.
#6 Sold - all items would be tagged/color coded to ensure no inventory mix-ups.#6 Received - upon delivery, multiple items were placed in my house which weren't mine.
If all this wasn't enough, I have several destroyed items and now have to attempt to make a claim for reimbursement. Lastly, not to divulge personal information, the driver I had for Colonial/BCM Relocation for delivery had a medical emergency DURING delivery and (IMO) should not be medically cleared to drive ANY motor vehicle. Yet, when delivery was complete and the paramedics were gone, the driver drove himself away in the Ryder truck. Avoid Colonial and BCM Relocation - they will make your long distance move a nightmare.

Original Review: March 10, 2022
Colonial Van Lines is the worst moving company I have ever worked with. I moved my mother from NC to Florida in 2021 and from the start this was a miserable experience. From the beginning what I was quoted and what I was charged are COMPLETELY different. Their estimate was around $5700.00 for the move and the final bill was over $11,000! Not only this but when I finally looked at what they delivered at least 50% of the items and furniture were broken beyond belief and some of the more expensive and desired furniture items and carpets never even made it to the final destination. They literally took the most destroyed items and hid them under blankets in the back of the storage unit so I couldn't view them before they left.
We had a very expensive bedroom set and one of the main armoires never made it at all and I know the new homeowners wouldn't have allowed anything to remain in the house. This means the drivers couldn't even get the item into the truck without destroying it beyond belief or they gave it to another client before reaching us. Utterly irresponsible what they did to us. Then once completed the drivers asked be for a cash tip $500 a piece. The nerve of these people.
Once I was able to figure all of this out I filed a claim which they quickly denied for no good reason. This is not just monetary losses, this is everything my mother and deceased father have collected their whole lives and the devastation of this move put my mother into a tailspin which ultimately contributed to her untimely death as well. This moving company is not to be trusted and I highly recommend using ANYONE else regardless of cost. They will tell you they are the cheapest but that is not what you will pay. You will pay much more by the end, on your credit card and by loss of sleep and hair. PLEASE BEWARE!

When the movers came, I had everything boxed by that point in time other than the bed and the furniture. They started with the boxes, got all the boxes out, and then with the furniture, they took everything apart. They took more things apart than I thought they would. I had a table. I didn't realize that it could be taken apart. They took that all apart and wrapped everything up very nicely. I was very impressed with the movers.

I really enjoyed Colonial Van Lines. They did excellent work. Their reviews were really good. Their bid came in not the lowest but it was moderate. I mostly was looking for somewhere that had people's experiences that said that they took very good care of all of their things. I've moved a couple of times with different movers and they were nowhere near as thorough when it came to numbering all my boxes and making sure that all of my items were labeled and numbered so that I knew nothing got lost on the way. That was something that I really appreciated that I hadn't seen before. I was impressed the entire way through.

Colonial Van Lines' price point seemed to be a little bit better than some of the other companies. The moving coordinators were very pleasant. It was a good experience, except for one item that did come up damaged. One of my office chairs was damaged, and I noticed that they taped it. So, that means they were aware that it was damaged, and I know that that was not like that prior because I use the office chair every day because I work at home. They did send me a claim form that said it takes 90 days up to 120 days. I'm not going to wait that long to do what I need to do because I have to work every day in this chair.

Colonial Van Lines was very professional and very diligent in getting me the information I needed, the quotes and everything else. There was a delay in my decision-making of whether I was even gonna do this or not. They persisted but not obnoxiously, which I really appreciated. They didn't make it so uncomfortable. They checked in an appropriate way at an appropriate time. So, I chose Colonial not based solely on price. It was based on the way they presented and handled themselves.
My coordinator, Daniel, was wonderful, very knowledgeable and very thorough. Every promise he made, he fulfilled and exceeded. The movers themselves were great. They came into my home. They packed my stuff for me, which was amazing. They were nice and trustworthy. They did a great job packing. Everything came in packed. The promises they made were right on target as far as dates and times. I had the same crew that came and dropped stuff off. They worked quickly and diligently, and everything got in place. So, it was a great experience.
The only negative feedback I would have was I didn't have a direct contact. I didn't know when my stuff was gonna arrive. I needed to start thinking and planning. I called and they found out the day for me. They said, “Look, it will come, like, Monday.” So, there was that one moment where I was like, “Oh, gosh. Who do I contact?” But then I contacted the people I had, and they found out for me. So, that was pretty wonderful.

By far the worst moving company on the planet. And also one of the worst customer service I've ever received (and I don't say that lightly as I've seen quite a few horrible ones over time). My advice to those out there is, if you know what's good for you please stay far away from using CVL services. If there was a "no star" I would have selected that. Honestly, I don't understand how they are still in business. The only decent side of their business is pre-sales. But it's all a trap. Because once you sign that contract (and please read the contract, there's a lot of fine prints), everything goes down hill from there. Horrible customer service; borderline criminal in their operations; end to end post sales services is horrendous; not on time; bad packaging, horrible delivery service; very poor issue resolution process and the list goes on..
Through their carelessness, they damage a lot of good and show no empathy. You can barely get them to address any issues. Took about 6 months to process a claim.. When they do, they refund pennies... e.g., They damaged goods worth over 5k.. and they refunded a little over a 100 bucks after 6 months.. That's just criminal... Just sharing so others don't fall prey to this company! There are way better options out there...

I liked the pricing of Colonial Van Lines. I thought the move went very until I discovered a lot of the food products that I had in storage were missing. They did a good heist. What made it worse is that I gave them $30 apiece as a tip to buy food on the road. I paid big money to have everything shipped here and I didn't get everything. So, I'm not ever going to use Colonial again.

I found them very professional. They did everything they told me they would do. They gave me a good quote. It was several hundred dollars less than the other quotes that I had gotten, so I was a little bit concerned about the service, but the service was excellent. There was some doubt because they were picking up things for me out of a storage in Nashville and bringing them to Louisiana and there was some concern about the weight. But when I described what was there, they got the weight right on the button and there was no change when they delivered the goods to me.
Everything got here. The gentleman that delivered the stuff were the same ones that picked it up and they put everything exactly where I asked them to put it. They stacked up the boxes where I asked them to put the boxes. They were just as sweet as they could be. A wonderful couple of guys and I could not be more pleased. They did not fail me in any way. They did a good job. I am so happy with Colonial and I have told everybody who is even thinking about moving to call Colonial and at least give them a chance to bid on the move for them.

After talking with their resolution manager, she was able to explain and fix most of the issues I originally complained about. Moving is a tough business and I'm glad that Colonial does care about their customer experience.
Original Review: Feb. 22, 2022
They literally moved my stuff 5 different times, this is after I asked their so called expert if my stuff was going to be put in storage. They said "No", and it was put in storage twice, once in LA, and once in Missouri. Lied about where my stuff was during the move (I know this because I talked to the driver who delivered my belongings), Broke over 50 individual items. They are the worst company period. I know most moving companies have one issue or another, but by far Colonial Van Lines makes already a stressful situation much much worse. Another fact, they pass you along to so called experts during the move and one is worse than the other. I can't say this enough, STAY AWAY,

The reps were really helpful and they spoke with me and my mom. We both had a positive experience speaking with them. A rep gave each of us a detailed quote. The expectations they set were very accurate and things were better than they said. At pickup, I had everything boxed up and ready to go. At delivery, I worked with my landlord and the moving company and they were able to drop everything off. They were very good about communicating with me what time they were going to get where my stuff was and everything got to Connecticut quicker than expected. Everything was here when I got here. But, what they didn't set up for me was my furniture. I didn't know that was not a part of the agreement. Other than that, it was fine.

Colonial contacted us and said when the carrier was close, they would call us. They failed to tell us that it would be subcontracted out. By the time the outside party showed up in September, our house had already closed and we were on a time crunch, so we were forced to go with them. It was a little frustrating when this truck showed up with another person's product on it as well and they were telling us that they were taking our home stuff to Las Vegas to repack and tote and store because we had requested storage.
When we got ready to come, we called them in December and we couldn't get in contact with them. Colonial supposedly kept trying, and they finally got them. Colonial started calling us and telling us it was getting scheduled to move. They did that for the first two times and after that, they never called us back to let us know what the progress was on our move. My husband was very frustrated. He told Colonial had he known an outside party was coming to pick it up, we wouldn't have gone with them. When we did some research on that outside party, we found that they had a lot of complaints. At one time, their license had been suspended because of a lack of insurance, so we were really skeptical.
The next day we got a call from the outside party saying they were two days out. They then delivered our stuff before Colonial knew it was moving. At that time, we didn't know who was bringing it to us 'cause they were looking for a driver. But the guy that delivered it was great. It was just that we got it on January 24th not knowing it was going to be there, so the communication with Colonial with the outside party was lacking.
The outside party that showed up wrapped everything wonderfully. We only have two picture frames that had a little bit of damage. But considering everything else, nothing was broken. Then I had never seen anybody using as much tape and care as the guys that did it on the Washington State end. It was taped and blankets inside of boxes. Also, it looked like they dropped one box of silverware and it ripped open, but they taped it all back together, and there was no problem with it.

Our team would like to thank you for the effort made in sharing your experience with the public. As household movers, we appreciate the opportunity to have played a role in your relocation and we wish you all the best in your new location.
