I spoke with the first customer rep, and he filled me in, gave me all the information, explained everything, and sent the paperwork that needed to be signed. I then had a lot of correspondence back and forth between the mover, the driver, and the dispatch. Sometimes it got a little confusing ‘cause there were so many hands stirring the pot, and I didn't know who it was that I needed to reach out to. It was fine when I finally spoke to the driver, but then I had somebody else call me. She said she's the case manager, barely had any information for me. When I called back and spoke to somebody else, I wasn't able to get in touch with her when I had a question for her to advise her about the incorrect quantity of boxes that were supposed to be added.
By that time, the price increased. From paying about $7,000, we went up to 14,000. That was a bit much for boxes and no furniture. Apparently, there was a disconnect when I went back and forth with a few other people telling them that there were more boxes than there were initially, which is why it increased the price. Also, the truck that they sent over wasn't large enough, so it was a little crazy trying to fit everything in there.
We moved the whole house and we packed everything. They were mostly boxes and we had it all put in one area for the movers. They came from a different stop and they ended up coming late in the day, but it was quick. They did the job in one evening and then got on the road the next day. It took them two days because they needed to stop. They couldn't drive straight through due to timing. For the most part, Colonial Van Lines was good and it worked out well. One thing that was disappointing was that they didn't take American Express. They said, "No. For this initial down payment, we need to take it via Visa and Mastercard but no American Express." They told me that the final payment can be taken by American Express, but that wasn't the case, so that was a bit confusing.

The moving coordinator was always available whenever we called her. However, we had very poor communication with the account manager who assisted us during the move. We tried to get information about when our goods were going to be delivered and never got one. We were told that a date was going to be our time for delivery. It came and no one went and delivered our goods. We had to call again. They never initiated contact. Then they said they would look into it, but they never called us back.
Finally, the driver called us the day after our goods were supposed to be arrived. He said he'd come the next morning and that we have to pay cash. It was a Saturday night, where would we get $7,000 cash for a Sunday morning delivery? I told him that the account manager said I will be able to pay by credit card and I have an email saying that a credit card would be acceptable for payment upon delivery. But he was told that he could only accept cash, money order, or a cashier's check. We scrounged around on Sunday morning, running and trying to get money orders for $7,000 so we could get our goods that day.
The actual movers themselves were incredible. We had 25,000 pounds worth of goods that we had delivered and the company only sent two people to unload those on a 70-foot truck. I asked the guy why Colonial didn't send more people. He said that they wouldn't pay for any more. He would have to pay for the people himself. We gave them lunch. After a 12-hour day, these guys were exhausted because we have 90% humidity down here and 90% heat.
Another thing is that we were sold that they would disassemble everything in our house for us, pack everything, store it, bring it to our house, and then reassemble it. I asked the two guys very nicely if they would be willing to at least put our beds together for us and they were able to do it. After they set the bed frames up, I told them to go home. They've already worked 12 hours and I wasn't about to have them start putting together everything that we had in the house. They would have been there until six o'clock the next morning. I gave them a $100 tip and told them to get themselves some dinner. But it shouldn't be that way. The whole back end of it was a nightmare.

The move with Colonial Van Lines went well, except when they were taking the safe out, they tore up my threshold. That has yet to be resolved. I'm in the middle of selling and moving, and they’re six hours apart. I just don't have time to deal with Colonial about it right now, but it's an issue.

The reps were very responsive and professional. They gave me very good advice and details about the job they will do. It was very timely. So it was excellent. The only thing is that Colonial Van Lines uses a network of affiliated companies and there was a little bit of lack of communication between them. The coordination at the beginning was not optimal. All Movers did the move and they didn’t have all the details, so they came with not enough packaging materials to my place. But they corrected it because they came back a couple of hours later with what was needed.
Valerie,
Thank you for your positive review. We appreciate your feedback and hope you enjoy your weekend.

Everything was great when I first signed up with them and getting all the paperwork done. They told me what to do when I'm packing, but after that, it was not good. Nobody contacts you, and when you try to contact them for any reason, nobody really replies. You just have to keep calling. I'm missing a box with designer purses in it and I can't get anybody to respond. They lost all the screws to my bed and all the legs. The damage on the furniture was unbelievable. It was bad. Also, they were eight days late bringing the furniture. It's not anything that I expected. It's very messy. It's very difficult and stressful right now. I've moved a lot and I've never had anything happen like this. I paid Colonial close to $12,000 for this move and I would not recommend them to anyone.

Colonial was really professional. We got it all handled pretty quickly and it was pretty easy. We went from San Antonio, Texas, to Fort Mojave, Arizona. We had the pick up on the 30th and then we had to drive to Arizona and meet them. They said they would be here by the 11th. So we thought we've got plenty of time. But then they called and said on the 3rd that they would be there the next morning.
We had a little bit of a hiccup as far as the movers got to Arizona sooner than we thought, which isn't that horrible problem to have for most people. But we hadn't gotten the keys for our new home yet, so we weren't sure how we were going to work it out. It all ended up working out okay in the end. It was just kind of a surprise that they called us and gave us basically 24 hours to get here. We hopped in the car and drove 18 hours to get here. Other than that, it really went smoothly. I really liked that we had the same movers that worked with us in San Antonio, drove the stuff here, and met us here at the new house, instead of a whole new group of people. Also, nothing was broken.

The customer service was extremely great. I didn't know when I was moving and they were really helpful with that. They worked with me. They gave me a window of the drop off date, but they didn’t make it exactly clear that I get to pick one of these dates, and it was going to be delivered that day. So the movers came and picked up my stuff, and then two days later, they dropped it off to Washington. But my apartment wasn’t ready. So I had to go into a storage unit, and that was a whole hot mess. Colonial could communicate a little bit better with the service people because we were used to picking the day. But it wasn’t their fault. They were doing their job. Colonial was great.
I packed everything and had everything super organized, but I didn't know that I had to provide my own moving blankets. I wasn’t a fan of the contractors through Colonial. They destroyed a lot of my furniture. I had a bunch of Rubbermaid boxes that were shattered. I didn't even know that it was going to be a contracted thing. The moving guys were really nice and when they packed up all my stuff, they were really good. But everything kind of went south when they put my things in the storage unit.

I liked how personable the Colonial agent that I talked to was compared to the other ones. Then the pickup and delivery were excellent. I live on the fourth floor and my apartment building elevator was not working so the guys took my stuff down four flights of steps. They knew what I was trying to do and they empathized. I was frustrated and they helped me calm my frustration down and went on to do what they had to do. This was my first relocation and it was a great experience.
Hi Patricia,

I would not recommend Colonial Van Lines. They damaged ~ $600 worth of items, and they have stated that they never received the claim paperwork that was submitted. At this point, I have broken items that will go into the trash. Look elsewhere.

I put the house up for sale in January then I called Nicholas from Colonial and told him about it and that I'll be ready to move as soon as it sells. Everything went smoothly with him and the crews that were here. We had a great crew down in Louisiana to help us get everything loaded up and we had a great crew here to help unload stuff. I really felt sorry for the guys up here because they were here and the heat index was 90 degrees, and there were a lot of stuff. I had to take it through across the yard to go in the backside of the house, to put everything in the basement and it was a chore trying to do that so my hats off to them.
It was supposed to be picked up on the 7th. They got delayed and picked up on the 8th. Then the driver said that he could come the next night. That would be quick for us, but that's a 13-hour drive from down there up to here. I told him to come on the 10th and he did that. Everything went exceptionally well. You can't go wrong by going with these guys.

When I called Colonial Van Lines, they were pretty thorough and they gave me a pretty good price. The only problem was there was always somebody different assigned to the account. I wish I have one or two dedicated consultants mainly that knew exactly what I was dealing with. But I was always able to get in touch with someone if I needed to. They were also great as far as the team. I moved from one state to another. The team showed up at my original and move location at the time that they said they’d be there and they did it all in one day. Just be aware of what they’re charging because they go by weight, and a lot of times, they estimate the weight. Then it’s nowhere near the estimated price before.

Colonial's reviews were slightly better than the other ones. As far as their representatives, there was good communication throughout. The initial quote was based on an estimate of what was there. Then they added to that in a different process. They were supposed to weigh final amount because the rate was by weight, but that wasn't done. They just charged extra of what they thought, and then I was supposed to pay that. They did not weigh the final load at all because it was exactly what they'd estimated on the original estimate and based on the other estimate when they did the packing. So, it's not entirely honest.
They say they're gonna weigh it at the end, and then sort of reconcile the total amount of pounds. But it wasn't done because it was based on an estimate and not the actual weight of the final goods. Other than that, everything was well packed. I initially thought I was missing some items, but it turned out, as I unpacked things further, that I wasn't missing them at all. So, that’s good.

Colonial Van Lines got back to me the fastest. Also, there was that quick online estimate that I could do, which was really helpful. Then, the representative that I talked to was really nice and really helpful, and so I decided to not pursue other options. The moving coordinator was so awesome. He followed up with me because I was having some issues just reaching out to the company that I'm working for. They were reimbursing me for the move. He was really understanding in giving me the quote, giving me time to just figure things out and keeping me informed throughout the whole process. The moving crew was really nice when they came in. My doormats didn't make it to my apartment, but I asked them to pick them up last minute, so they could have just been at the back of the truck. Then, the movers that got here set up everything for me, and reassembled anything that I needed to be reassembled. It was a very smooth and quick process.

We had a couple issues moving through Colonial Van Lines. Everything arrived fine, there were minor damages, but that was to be expected with the move. The one major complaint that we had was that they canceled our insurance that we had procured upon their recommendation. So, we went to a company they recommended, but that company didn't work with the people they sent to us to pack us. After our stuff was picked up, they went ahead and cancelled our policy without consulting us.
The lady that was managing my account was awesome. She's not the one that canceled the policy, and she had to deal with my aftermath, so she was awesome. Customer Service in general was very good. We went with Colonial because of the online reviews. People just had nothing but good things to say about them. I had to have my car moved as well, and they were able to take care of that. They made sure that my car was moved before our move out date. When you're dealing with a rental, that was really important to me. I had peace of mind that my car was going to be picked up and arrive just fine, and it did.

The guy from Colonial Van Lines who gave me the quote was very quick with it and accurate. It was more expensive than I wanted but at the end of the day, it was all about the date and not about the price. If I had more time though, I may have shopped around a little bit more for quotes. The guy followed up a couple times and got me everything I needed in terms of my certificate of insurance from my building and we were good. The foreman was fantastic and he brought a crew of two guys. We walked them through the house, pointing out what I was taking. I went through the list with him one more time and he packed it up. I got his number because I had to drive and meet him where we were going and he was great at communicating and took care of all my stuff well. I was very pleased with the team that came into my house.

Everything with Colonial went pretty smoothly. They ended up doing it a little quicker. They gave us a window initially about delivery but they weren’t sure how many other loads that we were gonna have to put. But because of other concerns of the driver, we ended up being the only thing on the load, and he was able to deliver it the next day, which was certainly more convenient for the situation that we were in.
Your positive feedback was much appreciated. We truly strive to make your move experience a positive event. Thanks for taking the time to post these kind words.

I did receive a call from Donna from Colonial and she was able to (after the fact) help rectify the situation so we felt whole again and I feel really appreciative of that. She was very nice, courteous and she sounded like she understood our situation, felt badly for what happened and then even rectified the situation. We are thankful for that.

My husband and I planned a move from Philadelphia to St Pete's FL for the early part of June 2021. Our initial communication was reassuring, but all communication after we provided our credit card was a complete runaround. We spent hours and days trying to get a confirmation about pick up date and time, each time we called there was another person to speak with, none having the same answer. "We will call you back when we have that information", with NO RETURN CALLS!!!!
Long story short, COLONIAL VANS NEVER SHOWED UP TO MOVE US, and we were forced to rent a huge truck and move ourselves without assistance. We then were left trying to get our second car down to Florida, as my wife and I had to drive a U-Haul truck and one car. This was a nightmare. And when I called to find out what happened with our move and to request a refund, we were connected to SHARON who was so rude throughout the entire pre-move process. And she is the supervisor. She had no idea my driver didn't show up, and then asked me if I would like to cancel my move. Cancel the move? No, your company never showed up! Don't trust this company! No communication, no supervisorial staff to assist with problems! Worst experience EVER!!! USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!! If I had the option, I would make my rating a zero!

The rep I talked to was so persistent but nice that I didn't call anybody else. He made me feel very confident. The coordinator I worked with for the move was helpful and competent. The quote they gave was accurate and as expected. My mover guys were from Serbia and they were very nice. The lead guy was on top of everything. Stuff got broken and scratched up but that's to be expected when you cram a lot of stuff into a small space to move it. They were fast and efficient. They kept saying, "This is incredible." Every box had labels on all four sides and the top as to where it would go. However, I'm not sure if they were able to read English because everything that needed to be downstairs was upstairs and everything upstairs was downstairs. Other than that, the guys were awesome and I'm glad I didn't look any further than Colonial. I recommend this company.

Tony, the initial person I talked to, got everything going and set up. I thought he would be the one who would be with me throughout the move but he wasn’t. That threw me for a loop for a little bit because I didn’t realize Colonial had turned me over to someone else. But Tia, the one they turned me over to, was great and it worked out. She was always responsive and I was always able to get in touch with her if I had a question all throughout the actual move. Everything went well and I was well-satisfied with Colonial.

There was the usual few little tiny broken things and a few missing things but everything went well with Colonial. It was par for the course with moving. So, I cannot fault them for that. The movers were on time, very professional, nice and quick, and I have no complaints about them. The quote was about $2,000 more at the end though. I thought I went over everything and that was the weight but they looked at it again and that was the weight and that was the price. You should be aware of the cost because it could go up considerably beyond what you think it would be. So, if cost was a big issue for you, you should be concerned. But I was in a position that I wasn't living there, so I had to do everything over the phone.

Everything went fine with my experience with Colonial. I like their price and they seemed to be a little bit more communicative. They kept me informed and they told me what was happening. I had a little problem with communication with the moving crew though. A couple of things got broken. But definitely, that happens in a long-distance move. I expected that and they really taped, it's not as if they didn’t try, but things got wrecked. They still did a great job.

We were satisfied with the move and everything went well. There were just a few things on the setup that weren't done right. It was more details like the China cabinet shelves were placed backwards and upside-down. Also, we had a quote and they were able to do it on the date that we wanted. But they raised the price because we had asked them to do it at a certain time of the month. We had already committed with them, so we just went with Colonial Van Lines. There were two different coordinators. What happened was the guy that was communicating with us was off so there was another person that I had to deal with. That was the only part that I didn't care much, but we can never control their schedule. It went okay but it would have been better if you only deal with one person.

Planned the move well in advance. Received confirmation of dates. Days before requested confirmation of day and time of pick-up. Could not get a straight answer. Finally someone reached out and gave an estimate. Movers showed up the day after the actual move window, which was a 3 day window. Attempted to hire specialist for piano move which was coordinated through Colonial - that was also not scheduled as expected and we paid hundreds of dollars unnecessarily due to a pure lack of communication. Provided a detailed spreadsheet with updated inventory a week before the move and was never provided with an updated quote.
The movers also never received that inventory so did not show up with an appropriately sized vehicle, pushing the move into yet another day. The movers themselves were professional and handled all items appropriately - however they stated they received the contract a couple of days earlier, which was well into the move window.

The people that came and moved my stuff out were very considerate and knew what they were doing. I was impressed by the way they wrapped everything and got everything out and loaded. When my wife was down here and they moved her in, she said she got along with them fine. They took care of everything, were polite and did everything she asked. The woman that I spoke to initiate the move was fantastic and was completely honest with me about everything. She was very kind and she asked way more questions than any other moving company had so I decided to go with them. The movers were absolutely incredible and very professional. They put everything together in a timely manner. I would recommend them over anything.
The only complaint I had was Colonial Van kept rescheduling me and I was upset about that. I would also suggest that when Colonial Van initiates the initial move questions, they should ask if there is a hill to the house because there is a very steep incline up to my house. The movers had to take everything up the hill because they couldn't get their moving truck up. That really sucked for them.

I booked my move on January 5, 2021 with Colonial Van Lines with Tom **. I paid my deposit of almost $2,000 and signed a contract for pick up on May 30th or May 31st of 2021. They were more than willing to take my money! So everything seemed smooth until May 29th when I never received a call, I called them. They told me they had no truck to pick me up on either day. Their excuse was delays. Mind you I signed a contract for my stuff to be picked up on these days. I had to leave my elderly mother and 13 year old in Pittsburgh, Pa waiting on a truck while myself and son, who is 9, drive to SC. I had job interviews and utility companies already booked. My son and daughter cried. My son who is autistic did not understand what was happening except that we had to leave his sister. He has cried everyday.
On June 3rd I called again and was informed that they did find a truck and would pick up the next morning. I cried tears of joy! That was short lived, within 2 hours they were calling again to cancel! Said truck went over weight. Then on Saturday June 5th Dispatch came me and did they had a truck for June 9th or 10th and would call the day before to confirm time. I then received a phone call in June 7th stating they were still working on finding me a truck. I told them I was told I had one, but the lady said no I didn't! So as of today June 8th they have still not found me a truck and do not even know when a truck could show.
I had called over 25 moving companies who could not move me due to short notice, but I found one today that can move me June 10th. During all this I signed an agreement with my apartment in Pa that I was moving out May 31st. They signed a lease with a new tenant for the month of June! So Colonial Van Lines did not just screw my life up but others not even involved with them! I now owe my rental company $431 for pro rated days in June. I will be fighting Colonial Van Lines to pay these fees because this was their fault!
This was my first big move out of my state and it was horrible! I am a single mother and have cried everyday along with my son because of this whole ordeal! Terrible customer service also. I would either be told I would get a call back which no one ever called or I would be in good for at least 30 minutes to get hung up on! Beware! Tell everyone! Never use this company! I have turned them into the BBB and will be passing my horrendous experience in every website I can!

My co-worker used Colonial's service before and said it was really good. I went with their recommendation. The sales guy I had was really good then I got passed off to an account manager who was not very pleasant. There was bad communication in the middle. I didn't find out that the movers were going to be there until about two hours before they were going to be there. That was three days after they originally were supposed to be there.
I lost two days off in order to compensate for the extra two days for travel. I also lost 300 some odd dollars because I ended up having to go buy a U-Haul rental in order to carry the extra stuff. I was gonna go ahead and leave that evening anyways with a U-Haul full of my stuff. Thankfully, I'd already rented the U-Haul because the movers weren't even able to pack all of my stuff in the moving van. There were a couple of extra things that got added to the list as we went around the house. These were things that I had forgotten.
Other than that, the movers themselves were good. They packaged everything up really easily, quickly, and efficiently. They took pictures of everything beforehand to make sure that there weren't going to be issues during the shipping. If something broke, they would have accountability that it was broken during the move. They were an hour or two late when they got there and they unpacked everything very quickly. They moved things around. The quote was pretty accurate. Because of all the stuff that got added on, I ended up paying more. But if I hadn't added on that extra stuff, the quote would have been less or close to what I was quoted. In the end, all of my stuff got there in one piece with nothing major broken.

I’ve had a hard time trying to get my cars lifted from Maryland to Texas. Colonial Van Lines told me the estimated date would have been 5/9, and I’m still sitting here without having my car picked up. It's been almost over a month. The salesperson took my deposit that day, but never returned my call and never did anything. It was a horrible experience. I would never go back to Colonial Van Lines. It was never a clear pricing. There was no real clear estimates.
The crews were nice, but they didn't use the supplies that they told me they were going to use. I ordered two TV boxes for my TV, but they just used the normal boxes and then just taped it up. They didn't have a proper TV box with foam. Luckily, the TV arrived fine. But if they’re going to charge me for the supplies, they should make sure I am using those supplies. I’ve been charged for at least nine dish packs. We didn’t use those dish packs. They just paper wrapped everything. They did hard work but I'm paying for it. If I'm paying for the supplies and everything, then they should make sure that they’re spent properly.
The whole estimate thing was not fair. I was right there with them. I helped them out with the whole thing. And until later, I found out that I didn't have to help them. They were the ones who were supposed to pack everything. I’m more frustrated with the salesperson because he told me he got my deposit, but then he never returned my call. That's not how the business works. In the future or if anybody asked me about moving service, I would never recommend Colonial. They were just a broker. They transferred all those services to Cal Van Lines who then did the work. I’d much rather go with them directly, because Colonial was a middleman, didn’t do their job, took all the commission and left me frustrated.

I was looking for a mover from California to Atlanta. Colonial Van Lines showed up along with a few others. I looked up Colonial Van Lines. I found some of the information were true. There was one other vendor too. I kind of got estimates from both of them and Colonial seemed to be very true and transparent and good to work with. My moving coordinator was wonderful. He spoke to me and got all the information from me. I found that as a very standard practice. He provided me with the quote. I did not choose Colonial first. I went with another vendor because they quoted me a couple of hundred dollars less than what Colonial did, but I learned a lesson. When they arrived at my house, they looked at the inventory, which I kind of provided. It was accurate. Whatever I gave them was there. It was all packed but then they kind of increased that amount three times, which I did not like.
At the last minute, I had to call Paul. He was the coordinator who initially gave estimates to me. He was very quick to accommodate my request. The good thing is after they sent the movers home, the price didn't change. So, the way that Colonial had estimated was accurate. I'm very impressed about it. The movers that picked up and also the folks that delivered were super quick. They did not waste any time. They arrived and they did the work. Two people came when they picked up, and three people came in the delivery. It was all done in less than a couple of hours.
Because of the situation I went through, I would definitely recommend Colonial to whoever asks me. They have helped me. I just was left a couple of days when the original plan kind of failed. Colonial accommodated the request within a very short time. I had all my flights and everything. I told Paul, “Paul, this is my situation. Do something.” He did his magic. He got everything done.

The Holy Spirit gave me the idea to go with Colonial Van Lines. Also, their reputation is good. They were on time. They got my stuff here within less than a week. What I paid was about $1,000 more than I expected but that was because they packed some things and it was a long haul. It was from New York to Georgia. At my apartment in New York, it was a long walk from the apartment to the truck. I packed more than I thought I was going to. So, it came up to about 2,500 pounds as opposed to 2,100 pounds.
The moving guys came and they packed up everything. I did most of the packing, but they packed up some glasses and things. Everything got here without being broken. They sent one guy, Tito, and his helper never showed up. So, Tito unloaded the truck by himself and put my beds together by himself. They called somebody last minute, and he showed up and he stepped right in and started helping. In the meantime, the lift on the truck broke. So, Tito had to work around that. We just waited until he was done. He did a very good job, and he did it in about four hours.

Melissa, the Colonial Van Lines representative that gave me the bid, was good. Everybody was upfront. The only thing that I was disappointed with was we paid to have items packed and unpacked. And at the unpacking, they did not break down any of the boxes. They just left, filled the garage with boxes, and didn't take the boxes with them. If I'm paying them $2,500 to pack and unpack, they should always break down the boxes and take them with them. Leaving them there to be broken down isn't even worth the unpacking. There was a lot more stuff that my mother-in-law was moving that we didn't anticipate but we’re glad the mover accommodated us and ended up taking all the extra stuff that we had not planned on.

When I was talking to their guy on the phone, he was confident. He was helpful and he had answers. I felt comfortable going with Colonial. The quote I received was accurate because mine was pretty small. The move was from Texas to Florida. Colonial sent me emails for a while every morning which was annoying. They said that they were going to call me or keep in touch a lot and I'm not that kind of person. I didn't need a gazillion phone calls. When the communication didn't come in, I was actually happier and I found it to be very nice. But if someone was wanting that, Colonial might have fallen short on that. Other than that, everything went well.

The people that came to move me were very good and informative. I was right there and watched them pack everything up. I was happy with that. My daughter and son-in-law was here when they offloaded my stuff, and everything went smooth. I had a couple of little things damaged that were old, so I expected that. I've heard a lot of horror stories about moves, but mine went smooth. And the coordinator that had it delivered, Nikolai, worked with me. I was impressed with that.
I had a bit of a problem once in a while. One time there were too many hands in the pot because I would get an email from such and such that they would be my coordinator once it was picked up. And then pretty soon, I got an email that this other person would be my coordinator. But all in all, I was happy with the move, especially with the very first person I talked to, with the people who came in and moved me, and with the coordinator that helped me get it delivered.

Donna managed to produce an agreement between myself and Colonial Van Lines to meet me halfway to pay for one of the damaged pieces; my large damaged queen sofa bed, even though I have to come up with half of the expense. It took a long time 8 months to be exact but I can now try to upholster my sofa and have it in decent condition. Thank you Donna for your help and patience to deal with extremely angry customers. My move was from California to Florida the Binding Estimate was done by the sales manager out of the Pompano Beach office. I have filed two complaints with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) with Chief Monique Riddick that regulates interstate moves. One complaint with Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (DACS) regulates intrastate movers of household goods within Florida. Wrote Governor Ron DeSantis Florida about Colonial Van Lines business practices.
· Binding Estimate means nothing.
· Estimated weight will be wrong.
· After the pickup of your belongings the price will increase.
· The day before the delivery if you have a 2nd stop an example to a storage a mile away plan on them saying it's not on the blinding estimate and it's up to you to deliver it to your storage unit. Damaged belongings you will already know it is pointless dealing with Colonial Van Lines and just write it off.
· Cashier's checks will NOT work, you will be told to go to the bank and get cash or in my case 8 money orders to receive your belongings it's unbelievable. It cannot be legal and should be reported to your local police department.
· I never received a refund for my weight being incorrect and having to rent a truck and deliver 62 of my belongings to a storage unit myself that my sales manager said would be covered in my move. My estimate is about 2,000 dollars.

I found Colonial Van Lines online, called, and the guy I talked to was personable. And I found it reasonably priced so I went with them. The movers were excellent. The ones that picked up my stuff and then the guy who drove the big van line to my house were all excellent. However, I had a small dining room table and the four legs disappeared. I filled up the thing that they were gone, and to get reimbursed. But I won't get much for it and the table is worthless without the legs. It was only a couple of years old. It was an $800 table. What can I do if I don't have the four legs? It’s being resolved now, but even if they resolve it, I'm certain to get 25 bucks.
I decided not to take the insurance because I've always been burned on insurance before where, “Oh, that’s not covered.” Or there's a high deductible. And I thought I’d take my chances. I’m blaming myself. And then you can only do one claim. You can't amend it or add anything. And I realized much later that they had done some damage to a bicycle and it cost me over $200 to get the bicycle fixed. If you're going to ship a bicycle, even though they will tell you you don't have to, put it in a box. Those are the two things that I was unhappy about, but it was very reasonably priced, so you got to take that into account. If you're going to spend double the money, maybe you get a bit better quality.

Colonial Van Lines was the most responsive and they were able to accommodate the time of when I needed to move. They sent me emails almost daily as were getting up to the move. Just reminding me how to properly pack things, put things in mattress bags and plastic bags so everything could make the move go smoother. I had a three-story home so there were a ton of stairs. Those guys were running up and down the stairs, carrying heavy stuff, and they were done loading the truck in three hours. They were the best movers I've ever had. They were ahead of time. There was only one guy who unloaded the truck and he did it in two hours. That guy was awesome.
The quote was accurate. I gave Colonial Van Lines a good description of my furniture and the number of boxes that I had. I ended up going overweight, which cost me a bit more money than the estimate, but that was expected if the weight wasn't right. Colonial Van Lines did a good job, they're reasonably priced and very professional. Use them.

The communication was always there with the rep from Colonial Van Lines so we didn’t have to wait long to get a response back. When the moving crew got there, they were very good, coordinated and professional. But the pickup was two days late because they kept rescheduling and then, the delivery time was about six hours late because they got caught in traffic and were coming all the way across town. Their schedule was all goofed up and that caused a lot of problems for us too. Then, I was surprised the subs built in a hefty tip on their delivery fee. We weren't told upfront that there could possibly be shuttle fees and if they had to go more than 75 feet from the doors, there was a fee. It was all these little things you kept getting tacked on. So the ending bill was more than what we expected.

When my stuff was delivered, the people that took over my account and talked to me through the process were really nice. We went from St. Louis to Dallas and they got there two days later.
A couple of additional costs were added at the last minute and the woman that I spoke to was so persistent about calling and telling me how much everything was going to be. I didn't love working with her. When I got there, some of the things that they added at the last minute were valid, it just wasn't explained to me ahead of time. It would have been nice to know that they're going to charge extra from the truck to my door. It ended up being $300 or $400 more, which was okay, like when moving, you expected it to be a lot. I just didn't even think about that. Luckily, I had a storage unit that was closer to the door. Working with them were easy and they communicated really well. Updated on 10/19/2021: REVISED AND RENEWED REVIEW: STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY! Please, please, read the details to avoid not falling victim to Colonial Van Lines. After writing a review about our experience in April, Donna ** came to us as an angel of light without a single candlestick in her hand nor even the thinnest flashlight. Soon, she sank into the same mud of deception with other actors and actresses at Colonial Van Lines (CVL). She worked very hard to block our reviews by offering us some ridiculous compensation for our now over $8000.00 loss and still counting. Very recently, she pushed a young woman called Stephanie ** – Quality Assurance coordinator to be the CVL front messenger of evil! Stephanie would later call us on October 11 to cancel our move.
As of October 17, 2021, this is our current review: With numerous promises by Donna ** through more than a dozen phone calls and emails and from April to October 2021, Colonial Van Line (CVL) assured us that they will make it right through smooth remediation and transportation of our belongings to our destination. Those promises collapsed on October 11th, 2021 when Stephanie ** called me to cancel the move and sent a follow-up email as a confirmation. Up to date, we have not received a single call from Donna ** who was promising us that all would be well. We worked very hard to nail down the specifics of the move, but CVL representatives remained evasive and pretty arrogant!

Original review: Our unexpected shock started when we discovered that Melisa **.. had sold us Colonial Van Lines moving services loaded with misrepresentations and dirty lies. First, She told us repeatedly that they are not a broker, and that they are a direct shipping company. Secondly, she provided us with all-inclusive quotes with the promise that the price will not change. On the contract form, she provided us with the moving dates of 4/26/2021 - 4/29/2021. That contract was breached as the SCAM company did not show up at all but instead sent a reluctant driver to our home late afternoon of 29th of April. The driver left without moving a thing. She also told us that our deposit is refundable anytime we decided not to use them. Well, all those promises failed!!!
Late afternoon of 4/28/2021, we got a call from Colonial telling us that our move was scheduled for 29th of April 2021 and that the service provider [YBS LLC] will arrive at 9:am. At around 10: am PST; Some unknown guy called from area code (818) and told us that Colonial had subcontracted our move to them and that our loads would be kept in their warehouse before the final move. Meanwhile, he said that the truck had broken down and they needed to replace the truck.
We reached out to Colonial, the two different guys and the young ** lady we spoke to were sincerely and sympathetic and went all out to seek impossible solutions. As the day was wasting away, our stress and anxiety levels rose beyond human tolerance level. My wife and I are both senior citizens with physical limitations. Around 1:pm A Pentzel moving truck showed up, an entirely different subcontractor [Mile Hide Vanline]. Only two people came with the truck. The Driver was rattled by all the happenings, received a call from a rep of Colonial Van Lines and got upset, claiming that Colonial was rude to him. He was very upset, such that he left without doing a thing!
Then, about two hours later, the notorious Donna, called. She was very arrogant, rude, and most unprofessional. She upheld all the negative reviews written about her on web, by arrogantly yelling at us without an ounce of respect. We wonder if she has any elderly people in her family or even neighborhood. This Donna ** was assigned to us as our account manager. But she was and is demon of disgrace, torture and humiliation. She never responded to our emails, voice messages, and even messages sent to her via her colleagues. She is most disrespectful. She yelled at us, bullied, and just presented herself as a SCAM gang-master! She offered us zero help, but one threat after the other. We concluded that she must be the owner of the scam company otherwise, we could not imagine any reasonable business hiring this bully as a customer account manager.
We, after, sleepless nights of 29th to the 30th of April, realizing that our lease expired the night of April 30th, we searched and searched for local movers to get our belongings into a local storage space. Thank God we did and completed that May one. We incurred close to $7000.00 in local move costs, local storage, hotel costs, airline ticket changes, and rental car changes, due to the fact that we had to spend extra days before we could travel out of town. Around 10:30 the following day (May 1, 2021), The bullying Donna called. She did nothing to apologize, but hanged the phone up on me as I tried to give her some updates on what transpired.
We wrote Donna ** and copied about three of her colleagues the night of April 29th into am of April 30 advising them that they breached our contract by not moving us between the 26th and 29th of April. We demanded our deposit of about $2900.00 that Melissa S. craftily demanded by taking advantage of our old age. No response from Colonial. Since we are old, we will seek the help of a local lawyer to chase the crooks at Colonial, while filing as many reports as possible to all known government agencies, online consumer advocate agencies. Our goal is to prevent others from falling victims to the crooked Colonial company. They constantly claimed to be the #1 moving company. FALSE! They provided false estimates, refused virtual tour of the house, took zero pictures of our belongings, and then sent us Donna to be the burning thorn in the flesh.
David, we're sorry to hear about this. Our Resolution Manager will be reaching out to you shortly regarding your negative experience with us so we can find an amicable resolution. Donna can also be reached by calling, 954-958-2253.

Colonial Van Lines did well, but we've had two lampshades that were torn up, a glass memorial box that was broken, and a part of the crystal glass candle holder was broken off. One of the things that I didn't realize when we signed up for it was that our stuff was going to be offloaded on another truck, so it got jostled around quite a bit. I was told that everything would be marked Colonial Van Lines, but nothing was. It was all Zip Moving who they subcontracted out to. That was one of the things that the coordinator emphasized which didn't take place.
Then, the other thing that would have been helpful is if the list that she went on to get an idea of our inventory had been a little more complete, we wouldn't have missed the mark so much. I didn't think to tell her that we had some suitcases and so four suitcases added on, and the amount of packing that they had to do, they seemed to be surprised that it was going to be a pack all. We had about 4,000 pounds after more than what our inventory had said. However, they were able to get everything offloaded in one evening, so that was good.

The crew was really nice and respectful. It was really quick because we used to have a really small apartment. So, he was in and out of there in an hour. My mother-in-law actually gave me the wrong address for the storage unit and they were willing to work with me on that too and that was really nice. They didn't charge me extra for getting the locations right. Their cost was also really affordable. 'Cause they split it up through three different payments and it was a lot easier to do it that way than take out a whole $2,000 at once. They were a really good company to work with. Getting everything set up was pretty easy. When the movers were at my previous location, they were kind of overbearing a little bit because of their constant calling. They called me about five times the same day to see how the move was going. I told them over and over that they weren't going to be there till the end of the day. But they persisted to call, which was a little bit annoying, and unneeded. I asked them to call back the next day, and then, they didn't call back until about three days later, which was fine. Other than that, the customer service was okay.
I was expecting Colonial Van Lines themselves to be doing the move and not a third-party moving company that was contracted by them. But they contracted a third-party to move all my belongings. I was not told that at all. It would have been nice to know that upfront. The moving company came to pack everything up, put it on the truck and relocated to the new location. I had to move a little over a thousand miles across multiple state lines. The timeframe that I was given was fine. They showed up when they said they would. As far as delivering my belongings to the destination, they gave me a pretty wide window, which I understand. It wasn't too terribly far to drive that distance, and they showed up closer to the beginning of that timeframe than toward the end of it. So I was pretty satisfied with that.

Absolutely one of the worst moving experiences I've ever had. We used Colonial for an out of state move in January 2021, and they broke a bunch of our stuff (including a TV and a computer monitor). We've filed a claim and they've come back with a resolution of a $150 for what equals to at least thousands of dollars of damages. And now they are invoking all forms of legalese to not cover the damages. Really really disappointed and surprised at the way they've handled it. Furthermore, the movers they worked with (specifically the ones that moved our stuff to the new destination) were rude and gave us attitude for reasonable requests (i.e. for moving items that aren't too heavy into carpeted rooms, please don't use a dolly).
I know you will be tempted by their price as they are pretty competitive, but with Colonial, I learned you truly get what you pay for. Pay the extra money for professional, respectful movers who won't break your stuff (and for your peace of mind). We're currently exploring possibly avenues to get an equitable resolution from them (i.e. lodging a complaint with the Better Business Bureau). Will update if anything changes and if anyone has questions about our experience with Colonial, do let me know. In summary, don't do it!

I was unable to attend to the move due to a death in my family. Friends packed my house and a neighbor opened and locked my house two days for the movers to load the truck. My household went straight to storage where every inventory item was accounted for w/o checking contents of boxes, etc. Many items were severely damaged: steel floor lamp post bent out of marble base; wood file cabinet crushed; 3 lamps broken, stationary bike wires pulled out, many wood furn scratched + leather sofa scrapes...
The worst part is all of the items that were stolen: boxes of tools (2 sanders, drill, bits, rachet set, staple guns, etc.); 3 LG rubber outdoor mats, 18x30" gold framed print under glass; all the hardware (nothing could be put back together - dresser mirror, bedframe, dining table legs, NO HARDWARE was saved; bathroom metal shelving unit; gardening supplies, more than I can remember! I could have hired 2 16 yr old and rented a truck with much better results than I got from Colonial "hiring out" my move to thieves for over $5,000. It was and still is a very distressful event and I would never recommend Colonial. I've not asked for compensation (I had no way to know all that was stolen) and I've received not even an apology.
Cathy, we apologize you did not have a pleasant moving experience. Donna, our Resolutions Manager, will be reaching out to gather further feedback on your experience. You may also contact her directly if you'd like, her direct line is 954.958.2253.

The movers were timely and prompt. They got there first thing in the morning, as expected. They did a great job wrapping the furniture so that it wasn’t damaged in transit and packing too. When I got to my new location, they did a good job of bringing it in and placing it where I wanted it to go. They were very responsive to my needs so I didn't have any issues at all.
I would definitely recommend Colonial because their prices were competitive. The rate I paid for them was not much more than I paid to go 10 miles down the road and the level of service and the professionalism of the moving staff was a lot higher than what I dealt with in the past. In the neighborhood that I live in, an 18-wheeler would probably not be conducive to this neighborhood from a turn-around perspective so they all went ahead and found a smaller truck for me. I had a great experience and I would certainly use Colonial again.

The quote provided was a little bit off. Kind of underestimated how much needed to be packed. Part of that was because we did a virtual walkthrough, as opposed to walking through and actually seeing what needed to be done. But the company they subcontracted to did a great job. The truck showed up and the driver and his worker walked through and formulated a plan essentially. Then he hired three helpers in the local area and they showed up about an hour later. In the meantime, the driver and his helper had already started packings things.

Colonial had the best timeline. The driver was fantastic too. He was hilarious and super helpful. We loved him. We had a couple of things broken though. Not his fault, but the movers' fault. People loading it at the house in California broke my son's toddler bed. Then somewhere along the lines, the crib got broken and a few other things were broken too.

I really liked the gentleman I was talking to. He gave me a lot of options and he explained about the consolidated shipping. It sounded like something I could use. They worked very well with me. I'm in Texas. Someone else had packed up my house in Alabama and had put it in a storage area. We went through all of that and came to an agreement that worked. My brother had taken a picture of the storage unit. So they based on the little dividers in the storage unit, they could tell how much was in there.
However, the carrier wouldn't be able to get his truck into my apartment and they were going to have to rent a truck and a trailer. That was the Friday before I was going to drive on that Sunday. Because of my circumstance, I didn't have any more money today. Between them and the carrier, supposedly they agreed that they would both cover that part because it had not been brought up before. Also, two of my TVs were messed up. They sent me the form and they're trying to pay me 60 cents per pound for the flat-screen TV, which is nowhere near going to cover it. I haven't gotten with them on that yet.

I liked the clarity in terms of the estimate as well as the responsiveness for all the emails and questions. The rep was very knowledgeable and everything went better than what I expected. I moved before and I used to spend a lot of time trying to call to ask a question or inquire. In this case, it is exactly the reverse. Colonial kept with me and checked with me from the time they came to do the packing until the delivery and assembly.

I wasn't happy with Colonial Van Lines. They were on the phone and they were who I thought I hired but some other van line called. Stevens Moving Service is the one that came and put the stickers all over my boxes and most of the boxes that were marked as fragile were smooshed. Thank goodness, not a lot was broken but the thing that I brought to the house myself and didn't have them move, I must have had sitting in one of the rooms they moved the boxes into. They saw it was jewelry and it disappeared. I have spent a long time searching the whole house and going through every box to make sure that I haven't made a mistake and checked my storage trailer to make sure it wasn't in there. It took a long time to do all that because I didn't want to accuse anybody falsely. But they're the only people that have been in my house so now I have to file a police report that they stole my jewelry.

At the very end, they didn't call me when it was coming. The person who had been my point person no longer worked there and the girl who was taking over from her hadn’t been given information on our account. Those are the only two hiccups, but other than that, it was fine. They broke a couple of things but that's to be expected.

Colonial Van Lines was quick to reply and they seemed to understand what I needed. Their rep did a very good job of calculating what we needed because it was not a normal-sized studio. It was just a few things. The local company that did the work lost a couple of screws for the mirror, but in terms of how well they packed and took their time to count everything, they did a good job. Colonial Van Lines was easy to work with and they were very reasonable in the amount they charged. So I will definitely recommend them.

Colonial Van Lines always followed up and I would use them again after hearing some horror stories about other van lines. The people that moved the furniture were very respectful and made sure that everything was wrapped up and on the truck correctly. When it got to my home in Florida, they asked me where we wanted it.

When I was leaving St. Louis, I had to be out by that Sunday, and the window was Wednesday through Friday. Colonial called to schedule on Thursday and I was fine with that. But it was pouring down rain. Fortunately, they said they would be coming on Friday. Well, Friday evening, I got a call saying it'll be Saturday morning, which otherwise would have been fine. But there was really no update. It would have been nice to say that the driver's leaving now and he'll be in town, just so I know. I was sitting here freaking out.
I felt sorry for him because the day he delivered my stuff, I didn't expect him to get into town as early, but he was there at probably 7:00 in the morning. I wanted him to go to my new place and he was sitting there waiting for paperwork till 10:00 or 11:00 in the morning and couldn't get anything done. We'd both gotten up early and we were just waiting. My stuff got here in the end and I liked the guys that moved me. They were extremely professional, hardworking, and had a good attitude. I'm just being a little bit foggy about the business side of it.

They followed up and the people that helped were very polite and helpful. The only thing was, I originally was not going to have them box my mattress. I was going to do it myself. But then I changed and said, "No, I want you to box," which they added to my quote. But when we got one of the mattresses, it had water damage on it. I haven't filed a claim yet ‘cause we still are trying to figure it out. Then one of the feet on our wine rack also broke. But they had a very easy process. The only thing that would be better is if they can shorten their pickup time window from four days to two.

I was very pleased with Colonial. I love the driver. Walter was wonderful. However, the person who helped move me out was in a rush. He said, "I've gotta leave here at 2:00 whether I'm done or not." I said, "We got to wrap this and make it nice and we can't damage anything." He said, "This is a 4,000-pound job and it should have been done in two hours." Walter had to leave the job, jump in the car with him, go get his money and come back. My brother and two of my nephews came and finished helping me. They were at the very end so it all worked out fine.
It would've been nice to talk to one person. I never talked to the same person at all and I never could build a rapport with anybody. I kept getting emails telling me, "I'm in charge of your move now," which was a little aggravating. I got moved three to four times to different people. One person was twice in one day. One person would tell me my furniture was coming this day and the next person would tell me my furniture was coming the next day. I waited one day and they never showed up.

The move itself was great. They packed up, protected everything and wrapped everything real good. It didn't take long. But it was just the quote was way out of line from the cost. It was a very bad estimate for it cost 1,500 more than they quoted me. That part, I was not happy with. It also took way longer than it should have. He said it would take 2 but it took 10. But they did it good, though.

The issue started from the very beginning. I was told they had their own trucks. Another truck and movers showed up so apparently they contract out to other companies which would be one thing IF they had their own trucks and didn't lie to me. One would assume I asked that question because it was important to me for my move. I won't make that mistake again. Also get ready to talk to 10 different people at minimum for your move. The person that takes your order and has you sign your agreement will never speak to you again (nor will you be able to get a hold of them). The company has coordinators to call you the day of your move to double check that the movers have arrived and that they have ended. You will be assigned a new account manager daily who is also very difficult to get a hold of bc they are on the phone and they are at the mercy of the contracted company to give you information.
Going back to pick-up day. A 1400 sq ft house (3 bed/2.5 bath) took 9 hours to move. It was INSANE. A team of 3 showed up with one as the lead who did very little. We ended up moving all of our boxes from upstairs downstairs and all boxes out of the garage to the truck bc they were SO SLOW. We were told our drop off day would be given to us on the day of pick-up. That was not the case nor could they give it to us within the next 4 days. We called daily to get a status update and always were given the run around- the service provider never called them back and the customer service agents and account managers would say they would call us back that day at certain times and NEVER did. Then we would be assigned a new account manager the next day. One day a few days after our pick up I was called to see how the drop off of our load went. UMMMM there was not drop off. Someone had noted our account wrong. BIG MISTAKE.
Today when I called I was told that our drop off was confirmed for tomorrow, but there was no note about the window of time. I was told to contact my account manager with any further questions. When I tried for the next 1.5 hours to reach my account mgr via their extension I only got their voicemail box. When I called customer service back they told me my account manager just spoke to me and verified my move and that they heard her do so as they were right behind her when I was on the phone. I hadn't spoke to a human at Colonial for 1.5 hours and was told I was lying about that. HORRIBLE! I then asked if I should just go sit outside the house all day waiting for the drop off and they said "yes and if it was not delivered that day they are not open on a Sunday so I'll have to call in the morning to rectify the problem". Great, I'll wait outside for 12 hours - great customer service.
I've asked multiple times to speak to a manager or someone else and have been told "there is no one else". I asked what would happen if our stuff was delivered outside the window promised and they said they would deal with it then. Customer service sucks. NO ONE KNOWS ANYTHING. WRONG INFORMATION IS LOGGED ON ACCOUNTS. NEVER USE THIS COMPANY EVER.
Amy, I apologize you've had a negative experience with your move. I see you are already in contact with Donna, our Resolutions Manager, so we can rectify the issues.

Colonial works with you. We talked and weren't sure about the details but we knew that we were trying to get there. We continued to exchange and they always called back. Once we’ve put everything together, the rep took some time. We got offline and called back later for other things that I needed to add or subtract. We did that about three or four times over a three or four-week period before we finally settled. He wanted me to be satisfied. There were repeated delays in the movement though. They had problems with the drivers but they kept me informed every day. They always called, let me know what they were doing, where they were and when I could expect them. I had to do a power of attorney for the person at the house to release my furniture to the movers and they walked me through it. Two or three days later, they called me and let me know they were there. They met the person at the house and it was really a good meeting.

Their rep was good and very communicative. I had to change dates a couple of times and they were accommodating. The moving crew came in, wrapped stuff up and took the stuff out. They were out of there sooner than we had anticipated. I had a missing part on a TV stand though. Also, a lot of my glassware was broken, even though it was packed in glassware boxes with all the foam and the separators. One guy had also lost a grip on a mattress when he was bringing it down the stairs and it ran into the wall at the bottom of the stairs and put a hole in it. But we sold the house, so we had to have that fixed.

The rep was very good. But I was a little disappointed in the results of when the move would take place. We wanted it to be sooner, but they were just being honest. They said it could be as long as a two-week difference than what we wanted. But they did their best. There was also a lot of back and forth as to when they would be arriving. They didn't give us an exact date, and that took a long time to get that information.
There was a different coordinator, not the first one who gave us the quote and he was overworked because he couldn't quite get back to us when we needed him to. We were moving into a condo. So, they only have certain days and hours, and they literally plan sometimes two weeks ahead of time before you're even allowed to move in because other people want to move in and they reserve those days. So, one of the things is that the intermediate guy was trying, but he just had too many clients because he couldn't get back to us all the time.
One of the guys that delivered was great but the other one was not. He was complaining. They had promised that they would deliver everything and assemble the bed. When we asked them to assemble the bed, one of the guys said, "I don't have any tools with me." So, that was disappointing. But I gave him a big tip and he found some tools. But Colonial has a good price and for the most part, good service.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! It’s been a complete nightmare working with them! They bumped our contracted pick up date three times. When the “subcontractor” finally did show up, it was in a rented Budget truck and not big enough to fit all our stuff. We had to leave several things behind in a friends garage. We were told they would deliver the remaining items in two weeks. Five times they scheduled a pickup of the items and five times they were a no show. No phone call to advise - no communication at all.
Our “moving coordinator” Jay **, was completely useless. Only after six weeks and finally reaching a manager were we able to get the rest of our belongings. The couch is damaged and the patio heater demolished. Now we’ve been told it will be four months for our damage claim to be processed. We paid $8,400 to move from Washington to Texas and it made us all sick from the stress. Filing with BBB and the FMCSA for the worse customer service and damage to our Property.

There were six guys from that other company that were doing most of the loading while the driver was doing all the paperwork and the inventory. I wasn't very happy with the company that the driver hired, but he was awesome. I was happy with Colonial too. The final cost was a bit more than the quote, but that was more my fault than theirs. I wasn't home when I first talked to them, so I wasn't able to give them a good estimate of how much stuff we had. We had sold our apartment and everything that was in the apartment we needed to move was on our Zillow site. So we walked through each photo and looked at everything. I told their rep what was going and what was not and we were able to come up with an accurate idea of everything that was removed. Also, the professionalism was really good and the cost was better than the other three folks I got quotes from. The move was from Chicago to Minneapolis and we had to do it in a quick timeframe. So we got it set up in under two weeks.
Colonial hires out local guys to do the move, which is pretty standard. But these guys didn't give me a great heads up. They were supposed to call me a day before and let me know when they were gonna deliver. But they called me an hour before to let me know that they were gonna deliver. However, no matter what the lady said, it was not correct. One time, in particular, it was supposed to be in between 12:00 and 4:00 when the movers came to pick up, and they got there at 8:00 AM. We had a unique situation where we were in a different state than our storage. Colonial was willing to do the move without actually seeing the storage and just by knowing the storage size. Our biggest concern was the issue of the weight because that could have changed the price of the move, and it did. Even though the rep said she overestimated the weight, the weight came in an excess of that. So we were hoping that we could have saved a couple of dollars, but we wound up spending a little more. Nobody wants to have a final bill that's more than what they expect to pay. It would be a good thing if they could figure out a way to resolve that and still remain competitive. All the documentation, the correspondence, and everything that I received or that took place was through Colonial. I was looking at a company that they would deal with everything from point A to point B, and it wasn't exactly clear that it would be an agent, which was not necessarily Colonial drivers that would be picking up our stuff. I know that Colonial goes through a process where they vet the drivers that are going to pick up the shipment and carry it cross-country. But on Colonial's website, they say, “It's our agent.” Calvin Lines was the actual trucking company and movers that picked up the household goods and took them to the destination. So I felt a bit misled.
We were told that we would have a 48-hour window of when we would be told that the delivery would take place. It was on a Friday and I was told that the delivery would be either Monday or Tuesday. This was also over a holiday weekend. They said we would receive a 24-hour notice before the driver was going to deliver the household goods. I got a call Monday morning from the account manager saying that the driver would be there that day. So we didn't get the 24-hour notice. My daughter was five hours away so she wasn't available to accept.
The information was communicated to the Calvin Lines gentlemen. They were in the area waiting. My daughter got there as quickly as she could. We weren't charged any extra. The driver and the two gentlemen that were with him handled everything. They were professional, courteous and polite. They handled everything with care and they didn't rush. We were very impressed with everything. The stuff was picked up and carried across the country. It was delivered and nothing was lost or damaged. So that was a good move. The first guy I met with, Chris, was from the beginning explaining how everything works. I could appreciate the fact that he didn't use all these terminologies that’s within the company that he understood. He broke it down and explained step-by-step how it works.
The initial date that I was supposed to move kept changing, and he was versatile through the whole thing. When the final move was to go through, he dispatched me to his manager so I can get that date that I wanted. It was just so busy that he couldn't put the dates in. So, he got me in contact with someone who could accommodate the dates that I want.
I couldn't be more happier with the two men that came to pick up our things. They were extremely courteous, and they wrapped my things with care. The only thing that was not clear is that when they pick up, you owe money at that point, and then when they drop off, you owe the balance that’s due once the final quote comes through. So, I was under the impression that I put the down payment, and then once they drop everything else off, they have their actual numbers, and then I pay the balance that’s due. Other than that, they kept the lines of communication open with me. The drivers were wonderful, and I can appreciate the excellent customer service we were given. There was not one broken thing, not one scratch. They took care and ease with my things.

So they picked it up within the window, and dropped it off within the window. They were pretty good.
I had two households. So when Colonial moved stuff in, they had to move it in on top of the whole household already. That was a four-bedroom house over there. But there are still two bedrooms full of stuff, closets, a family room, a living room, and a kitchen. They brought all that stuff over and stacked it on top of my three-bedroom house over here. They missed a kitchen drawer with the silverware in it and my Shop-Vac in the garage. But I can understand them missing it. We also found one broken glass and that was it. They did a pretty good job, considering I would have probably broken more and forgot more. My son was there on-site but he was working so they were doing it on their own. Everything was within the timeframe that Colonial gave me. And the gentleman who drove the truck kept in contact with me well. He told me when he ran into some issues in the snowstorm that had happened in that time period. He let me know that he would be late. And I was like, “Thank you for letting me know.” It was a day or two later than expected so it was still within the original two weeks timeframe that they gave me that they would be there.

The first person from Colonial was nice. She broke down how they work and then they were one of the top three. Right before we moved from California to here, another person called. I tried to tell him we had to add more stuff. And he was like, "That's okay. It's okay. Whatever." And then when the mover got here, the truck driver said, "Oh, well, I wasn't expecting this stuff." I said, "Well, I tried to tell the guy." There should have been more communication between them. But the guy who drove the trailer was also nice. He had to come on day two because not all the helpers came on the first day. So the next day, more helpers came. The helpers and the drivers were all nice. They moved everything for me. And then on the way here, when we got to Texas, even though the roads were bad because they had a snowstorm, the driver still came out and delivered my furniture and my stuff.

I got the lowest quote from Colonial on my move. That was all I was looking for at that time. Plus, they were a company that I had heard of. It was important to know they will not abscond with all of my belongings. I was happy with the communication. As far as knowing what was going to happen, time, dates, everything was accurate. However, I have a couple of complaints as far as the original cost estimate.
My first estimate was much less than I actually paid. Which I understand that they can only give a general estimate to cost. Their packaging, I had almost everything in my house boxed up. But what they charged me for their packaging was beyond outrageous. And based on that alone, I would vehemently not recommend this company to anybody else. They had to box up a few paintings, granted two of them are very large, so I understand being charged a lot for packaging like that. But the other ones were cheap pictures, paintings and photographs from around my house. They charged me $400 to box up all these paintings, and my jaw dropped. I was incredibly disappointed about that.
The night that they weighed my stuff, the mover called and said, "I'll send you the tariff slip." But he never did. I understand it was a long day. It was late. And I'm sure if I had asked for it that they would have cost one up. But I never saw evidence of my actual weight. In addition, the movers were generally very careful with my stuff. But one weird thing was, I had a sewing machine in a plastic case. It was the handle on top. I went into my storage unit and they have purposely put it upside down on a stack of boxes. And I thought, “Why would anybody put this upside down?” It was one of those things where you're like, "Why would the movers do that?"

My experience with Colonial went very well and they were accurate with their quote. They gave me a week's window. They were a day off from the time that they told me that they were coming. They said they were coming at a certain time but they didn't. They then called me back and said they were coming the next morning. They should communicate a little bit more and make a phone call if they are not going to come at the time they said they were coming. I was up waiting for them. They called at about 9 o'clock and said that they were late with another delivery and that they would be here the next morning.

But I'm an older person and maybe I've lost contact with what things cost nowadays. That aside, everything was great. Colonial was very professional. They said they were going to be there when they were going to be there. When they brought my stuff to California, I was there when they loaded it in the storage and it was really quick. Everything was loaded within an hour. That was very nice. I didn't have to spend all day there.

I spoke to Chad, who was the person handling the account, and he was helpful, very thorough and also very detailed regarding the process, especially with the estimate and walking through everything. The process in terms of securing the contract took less than four days to get everything together. At the end, the estimate was accurate.
The only thing that was a bit on the negative side was when the movers were at the destination location, they didn't set up the bed correctly so we had to correct it ourselves. The boxes were normal weather wear and tear. But outside that, the service and the process were excellent and easy. The whole process took no more than three to four days max in terms of the pickup, the transport and delivery. In terms of scheduling, because granted with COVID things were pushed back and such, be prepared to wait a bit longer, especially if there is traffic and weather permitting.

We've used Colonial Van Lines twice. The first time we used them, they seem to be a bit more available. They did not require our belongings to be stored. They could pick our items up and take them right to the place they needed to go. The second time, we haven't been nearly as happy with their service because they contracted out our work. We also had no damage the first time, but there was definitely damage the second time. It can be expected, but had Colonial had their own movers move us the second time, I don't think we would have incurred the damage.
They moved half our belongings to our new house and this past month, they moved the second half. The first time around, there was a bit of scheduling snafus. They weren't clear and they kept inferring that they were going to have to push the pickup and delivery times back. Eventually, they came through and picked the furniture up and delivered on time.

They farm out to other companies - I specifically asked if it would be a piggyback move and if they handled me from start to finish. Lied to - realize they pay for that rating. I had a piece that needed to be crated and the gentleman who came to do the crating explained how they received their ratings. You get switched from representative to representative to give you the impression they have a large team in each division working with you. I had damages which I had asked several times for a weighing so I knew if there was a need for insurance - no one could give me a weight. This is not legal - you are supposed to be able to have a weight provided.
I purchased the insurance - I advised that I had damages and was referred back to movers - the movers never responded to my request. I ate probably between the cost of damages and a insurance policy that failed to cover and said I first had to deal with movers about $700 - be careful who you entrust your belongings - asked that a clause is put into your contract that there will be no farming out to another company. Movers refused to wear masks during COVID upon delivery - pick up they wore - was told from the start of our conversation that a 16 or 28 wheeler could not come on on the property - fined by association. Would not recommend it!

Anne was great. All of the customer service was great. The only issue that we came into conflict with was regarding the payment. The church that I worked for had pre-arranged to pay all of the expenses. Colonial Van Lines tends to contract out to other smaller moving companies, and it was not communicated to the driver of the smaller moving company who actually was doing the moving that this was the arrangement. And I ended up having to put everything on my debit card. That was the day of the move so the day that the movers arrived here, they told me I would not get my stuff unless I pay them.
Thankfully, I had what was needed within the account, but going forward, if that payment could have been worked out prior and not have been something that I had to deal with on the day of the move-in, that would have made the whole experience 100% perfect. And it's the only blemish on the entire thing. Then the estimate that I was given for the actual move itself was off by about a day, but I'm not gonna split hairs.

The coordinator was super-friendly, answered all my questions, and was pretty thorough in going over the whole process. Based on everything that I told him, he gave me like a certain weight. But then, we sold a lot of furniture and got rid of a lot of things. We were still over 27 pounds, which is not a lot but considering that we sold a lot of things, if we hadn't sold those things, it would have been a big shock. We would have had to have paid a lot. I thought we were gonna be quite a bit under since we sold a lot of furniture. We were right there and he said 27 pounds over. It would have been good if there was a way to get a more accurate estimate because we sold a lot of stuff.
Two women came and did the actual move, and they were really helpful as well. They called throughout the whole process and checked in. So, that was pretty good. Colonial Van Lines is a fraudulent company! They are extremely dishonest. They lie just about everything and anything. They give low estimates to attract customers, then give false information to keep the customers. Once the initial payment is received, their fraud wheels start turning. It is the worst kind of customer service and moving company out there.
We had an interstate move completed by Zip Moving and Storage Inc, contracted through Colonial Van Lines. The price of our move increased by 270% after agreement was signed. Few days after pickup, we received a rerate which included additional cost of $230.55 on long haul at the pickup location. This was $110.55 more than the amount stated on the "Interstate Revised Written Estimate" document that was signed during pickup. There was no long haul. When we disputed the charges, Colonial failed to provide adequate proof of measurement for the long haul. When we declined to pay this amount, Sharon from Colonial kept sending threatening email.
On a recorded line with Colonial Van Lines, I was falsely told that the same people who would pick up our shipment would be delivering them. Tiara ** was assigned as our account manager. She was unresponsive, clueless, persistently provided false information and lacked even tiny bit of communications skills. Our move was not confirmed until 2 days prior! That is how horrible she was. Prior to the start of the move, I was regularly given false information.
At the time of pickup, the movers failed to bring proper packing materials to pack our insured items per third party insurance guidelines and per our non-binding agreement with Colonial. Instead, they used our packing materials. But, they charged us extra for the packing materials. They did not bring cartons to pack mattress and box springs per insurance requirements. Upon seeing them shrink wrap the mattress/box springs, we contacted customer service and Tiara **. If damages were sustained, they asked us to file claims with the moving insurance by falsely claiming that all items including the mattress and box springs were packed per insurance guidelines.
Appalled, we asked to reschedule the move. But they threatened to unload the shipment on the curb/street if we did not sign the agreement and waive Colonial’s liability on damages sustained due to items being improperly packed. They also told us that they would charge us for the whole move even if the move does not take place. Because of the improper packing, a vast number of our items sustained severe damages. After 4 hours on the phone talking to multiple people with Colonial and with our attorney, movers packed the mattress and box springs in makeshift cartons before leaving the pickup location 4 hours late.
At the time of delivery, we asked the movers for the inventory list to notate damages to many items. First, the mover said the inventory list is in his truck. Then he spoke to his supervisor for a long period of time. Then he rushed to his truck and tried to drive off. When I stood in the way to stop the truck, he almost ran over me. After he lied about not being able to find the inventory list, I called 911. Upon hearing me speak to 911, the movers got off the truck and said his company did not provide him with the list. He started the truck again. I stood in his way and called 911 once again to provide the vehicle's license plate number. When the mover heard me read out the license plate, he got off his truck with the inventory list and we notated the damages.
After we completed notating the damages, the driver snatched the list prior to us signing it. Recently, we filed claim for multiple items per standard liability (60 cents per lb). Ashlee at Van Lines has declined to make a payment on our claim. Instead, they are trying to charge us more for the move! We filed a complaint with the US Department of Transportation. Instead of trying to resolve the issue, they sent us emails falsely stating that they tried to reach us multiple times and due to our unresponsiveness, they are unable to resolve the issues. People who work at Colonial are dishonest and I would strongly advise people to stay FAR AWAY!

I was a little bit skeptical of that. But other than that, I was pleased with what happened.

I liked Colonial's price per pound. They were accurate. All I had to do was pack my boxes and someone would pick them up for me, and then they described what services they can provide in terms of additional packing. Whatever I named, they had an answer for it. So, if I had to have picture frames packed, they prepared for that, or if there were appliances involved, they were prepared for that. It was basic. You can tell that when you ship with Colonial, there is not a lot of overhead, and they do less than truckload brokerage. What I had is an entire truck to myself and I had three people working to cart myself out of the house. All that for $1 a pound, and they were at the destination within three days of departure. That is like FedEx-ing your stuff.
One thing where people get confused or have after-moving complaints is that their estimate of weight is off. What I did was, because of COVID, I cheated a bit. I had a North American Van guy come out and do a weight estimate because those still do in-person estimates. Then, I took his labor and work and then supplied that bid to Colonial. That is because they came in at a different price because they don't offer in-person weight estimates. So, as a consumer, you look at your refrigerator and you know it's heavy, but you have no idea if it's 300 or 550 pounds. The weight estimate is what is key. And I've looked at people complain about Colonial is that because after their stuff was dropped off, the truck is weighed in route, and then they get an accurate assessment of what they are actually going to be charged for shipment. So, if there was a way that they could supply consumers an accurate way to estimate weights.
If consumers are going to move appliances, stove is this, washer is that, dryer is that, movers should have an idea. And then, that way, the person can plug and play and go, "Okay, this is what my calculated weight is, and I'm going to use all medium boxes from Home Depot." Then, it's incumbent upon them to come up with a standard weight of what they are going to sew into each box, and then multiply that by a number of boxes, and then they would have a formatted way to say, "I'm going to have a weight within 15%." So, when the Colonial driver shows up and says, "Okay, this is your final bill," they are not surprised. There was one person, I read their complaint where they were 4,500 pounds off. I could easily have done that. I could have lowballed my weight by 2,500 pounds and go, "Wow, I'm surprised," because you don't know until they finally get there. But I used that North American Van Lines estimate.

And then from there, they were able to get everything scheduled for us as well as store it for a couple of weeks while we waited for our new place. There were a couple of damaged items that we had. They told me they were going to overestimate weight and that way, it was going to come under for me because it's hard to estimate boxes. But my niece’s furniture was supposed to be delivered by the 15th and it's still not there. I have a person at Colonial that I contacted and last night, she called. She said that she might have more information on Friday. Other than that, when they were packing up the antique furniture, it’s a family heirloom from the 1800s, they wrapped it, then they boxed it. Unfortunately, we booked our move from Michigan to Iowa with Colonial Van Lines. It has been the worst experience. First off, Colonial "sells" your contract to another service provider and does not tell you. These companies may be related but it is a shady relationship and one they do not disclose. Secondly, they do not offer any recourse when the company they have sold your contract to breaks the contract.
We incurred over $3,000 in damages from items the movers dropped right in front of us (ceramic wares, shredder, etc.), items never delivered (lamps, small appliances) and we were not given the opportunity to view the weight tickets of the truck (which the contract clearly states we will be allowed to do), wardrobe boxes that we paid for were not used -- our clothing was thrown into boxes. Additionally, the movers picked up items from the trash and put into the truck and then we were forced to "pay" for that weight. These items include framed pictures and furnishings.
Our one day move took three days since the movers did not show up timely, could not back up the truck (therefore, could not get close enough to the front door to move items), held our items hostage in a "secret" location one day until we were forced to sign (under duress and without consent) a statement saying we received our items prior to them being delivered. We have tried repeatedly to work with Colonial to resolve the issue and they refuse to even negotiate or listen. We sent them copies of broken items, we sent lengthy discourses on the problems, we sent pictures of the mess the movers created with their leftover food and beverage items, etc. Donna, from Colonial, continues to empathize with us but nothing is ever done. MY BOTTOM LINE ADVICE: DO NOT USE COLONIAL VAN LINES!

The people who came to the house to pack stuff up were very pleasant and thorough. The people that unloaded my stuff, not so much. My bike and one of my pieces of furniture got damaged. Some things like my curio were upside down. I had to take the boxes and flip them myself. When I did that, it took me a long time for one particular box to get sorted because it had stuff in it. There were also two pieces of glass that didn't belong to me so somebody's missing them. I called to complain and they said I gotta fill out a claim form. I asked how long that would take and they said six months. I didn't feel they were as professional as the ones who loaded us up. I just let it go. I feel bad.

The movers were a bit late but they compensated us with that. They always answered, and called back when they said they would. They had to contract out to another mover because they were busy. They gave me a seven-day window, but then they showed up about five days past that window. It was the third party's fault. It was a surprise to both of us. We didn't realize that would be as late as they were. But they were in constant contact and answered every question I had, so it was all good.

I was looking for a company that was going down to Florida. I googled the website to find out what companies would be traveling down in that area from where I was going, and Colonial Van Lines popped up. I called them and I got a very favorable response from their manager on there that dealt with the whole move. And the price was good. I was well committed to do it because they seemed to be very professional and they could satisfy my needs. They had to store my goods for a while, which was not bad. Unfortunately, I had to do that and it cost me a bit more money. But it wasn't unreasonable. When they finally got it down here to Florida for me, I didn't have issues with anything. My goods were all delivered fine. Overall, it was a very good experience. Colonial was very efficient. The packers were great. The move was very smooth. I'm very satisfied with what Colonial did.

I liked Colonial Van Lines' pricing. I just got out of the military and that was the first move I had to pay for myself. Ashley was great. She responded to everything that I asked her to. Living in a condo here in Atlanta, it's complicated the paperwork that they needed. And then, the driver was great, but they were running about 30 minutes to an hour late. I guess they ended up leaving Kansas City a little behind schedule. And he texted me, “Hey, we need to stop and get food. Can we wait another 30 minutes to an hour?” I was like, “Guys, I only had my elevator here.” We have 400 units in this building, and it's impossible to get the elevator. I was like, “I only have a couple hour window.” So, I pushed back a bit. Then when the stuff got here, I was not happy with the way it was packed.
My great grandparents’ antiques were in there. I understand packing to the front of the truck to try to compact it as much as possible. But for example, I had a 200-year-old piece of marble that goes on one of my tables. That was somewhere up in the top of this. And during the move, it fell and landed right on my desk. Luckily, the movers were able to fix everything on site, so there were no issues there. But I wasn't happy. Even the guy who dropped it off said, “Hey, I don't know who packed the truck up, but I'm not happy at all.” So, I know he took that feedback. But that is the only bad part of my experience. The ending bill was a bit higher, but that was because my stuff ended up going into storage.

There were things online about Colonial Van Lines that were better than anywhere else, like the fact that we would have our own truck, and our things wouldn't go on a truck with a bunch of other stuff. Also, they would take it directly. It would not make a stop. The move was 1,600 miles and it took two and a half days. It was a little nerve-wracking that Colonial couldn't give us an exact date and time, but it worked out okay.

I was selling my house in Charlotte. I'm from New England so I had to get back to my family because I didn't have any family in Charlotte. I looked at four moving companies and ended up with Colonial. I read reviews on the internet and liked the customer service, which was mostly what the comments were made about Colonial.
The move wasn’t perfect. It kept getting pushed back by a few days with the physical move of my furniture, getting delivered, and even my auto being transported and getting delivered. The day that the people came to actually move me, I never heard from my moving agent. The people arrived at my house at 10:00 AM and everybody was nice. They were all moving as fast as they could. But it was after midnight that they were finally done packing up. The guys that did the packing didn't know that it was gonna take that long. I couldn't be there the whole time because I had a hotel room waiting for me. I had to take the plane out the next morning. I heard from the agent the day after. It was 11:00 that evening and I was already in the hotel room ready to go to bed. The two guys that delivered were excellent. And the quote I got was pretty accurate. I'd probably call Colonial again. I've told people my experience because they asked me.

But other than that, everything was great. Colonial Van Lines was very good.

The quote to move from Colonial Van Lines was the better option financially so I went with them. I did work with them a little bit to get an idea of everything, what went in what state, where it went, etc. and they were great about communicating, asking questions and double checking things. It was a smooth and seamless experience and process with them as far as getting everything moved on time. However, I did get a phone call from someone in Georgia who found my paperwork on the side of the road and is supposed to be mailing it back to me. My concern would be that Colonial lost the paperwork that has some pretty sensitive information like credit card information and addresses.

We sent pictures immediately and filled a claim. After over 100 days they advised that a good faith offer of $500 was the best they could do. Colonial advised that the damage was not intentional. We relocated to Kentucky and went with Colonial for the price at the time. We had it set up for two separate moves. They did our initial move and once they delivered our stuff, the delivery guys were fantastic. They put stuff where we wanted. They were supposed to do our second move when we sold our house but that was an absolute nightmare. They ended up canceling us at the last minute. They had said they fired the driver. So at four o'clock in the afternoon, the day before we were supposed to close on our house, we had to find a U-Haul and do a self-move then put our stuff in storage. Colonial kind of left us high and dry at that point.

Our furniture was to be picked up in Georgia stored in Las Vegas and delivered to Lake Havasu AZ. Instead it was subcontracted without us knowing stored in Tampa Fl and took 52 days to be delivered. We were told we would get a 1200.00 discount for signing up the day we called that never happened. Our first delivery date was to be November 18th through the 24th. We closed on our home November 16th and called to set up delivery October 14th when we went under contract. Our items finally delivered December 5th but we were not compensated for the 18th through the 24th the dates Colonial gave us for delivery. We ended up calling the contractor to find out when our furniture would be delivered and found out Colonial had just contacted them to set up delivery.
On the day of delivery our driver was delayed one hour because Colonial failed to contact the contractor with the adjusted price for our compensation. The contractor sent out two people to deliver 12000 pounds of furniture. I ended up helping to expedite the process. I had a snap on top box that weighed about 3000 pounds that was almost unmanageable with three people. Our Sleep Number bed was not set up by the contractor and the fittings on the pump were damaged in transit so after sleeping on the floor for three weeks waiting for our furniture we were not able to use our bed until we ordered a new air pump.
We have move 8 time in 30 years and our furniture was always delivered on the day of closing. I contacted Donna ** and left a message trying to resolve this before writing a negative review and have not heard back from her. It’s been two weeks. I hope this review helps someone make a better decision than the one I made choosing Colonial Van Lines.

The rep was very helpful and very responsive. That's one of the reasons we chose Colonial along with the price. She took the time to educate us on the way that the industry works, the pricing and the timelines. The price ended up being less than the quote once they weighed everything so that was a pleasant surprise. The move generally went well but everything was a little bit later than we hoped. We had to move out so I had to make a frantic phone call and they had to rush over and get there in time. The arrival on the other end was a couple of days late.

I had a few more things that they needed to box up for me so the box count was a little higher but that was anticipated. The quote was right around what I kind of thought it would look like. I decided on Colonial based on the price and I initially felt very positive about the customer service. But they set some expectations at the beginning that unfortunately weren't met towards the move itself. When I scheduled the move, they gave me a range of dates when they said the move would take place. They said that I would know more a week before that range about when specifically in that range that would fall. Unfortunately, I wound up finding out two days before that date range started, four days before the move itself, when the movers would get there. I didn’t find out about the drop-off time until after the items had already been picked up and loaded which was a little unnerving at the time. I would prefer if Colonial Van Lines or the moving company itself could be a little bit more proactive about letting me know the date. But ultimately, everything's here so it's all fine. The moving people were wonderful. I had trusted them 100%.
Thank you for sharing about your move!

They were good about that. They moved stuff aside that wasn't coming, went ahead and packed the truck with stuff that was going, then put the stuff that I wasn't taking back in the storage. We didn't know a lot about moving. We thought if you contract with a company, they would have their own trucks show up at your house. Colonial said yes, they had trucks and movers. I talked with the gal there and they told me that they do theirs based on weight and that sounded okay. I gave an extensive list. When it was time that we wanted our things picked up, they called and said ADI Movers were going to come pick up our stuff. I thought that's not Colonial but they said that was who they had do it and they've checked them all out. As I went online, there are two ADI Movers and one didn't have their DOT licenses for about six years. I was all upset. I called somebody and they said the other one’s out of Phoenix. I checked the one out of Phoenix and everything was good.
They came and the experience was wonderful. They were so fast, efficient, professional and nice. We had everything we wanted moved in the garage and in a box except for the bed. They took the bed apart, put the mattress and covers and took it out. Everything was loaded in an hour and a half. I was very impressed with that. They took it to Phoenix and this is from Buena Vista, Colorado. They were gonna store it in a warehouse because we didn't need it. The guy said, “Give us a week or so when you're ready and we will deliver it,” and they did. They carried it into our house down here in Sun Lakes, Arizona and did a great job. They set up the bed for us and put the furniture where we wanted it. I would highly recommend ADI, which we got through Colonial Van Lines, to anybody. I was very pleased. Colonial was great.

Otherwise, everything was absolutely perfect. They came when they said they were coming. They got our furniture here. The only suggestion that I had for them was if somebody is packing their own stuff, they could have a little brochure that would say what to do. I had always packed my own stuff and move through the U-Haul before. This was our first time with a mover. It turned out, I was doing a couple of things I shouldn't have been doing and ended up with broken stuff.
We were in Upstate New York in a very rural area and we were rather flexible on when we could move. So, it didn’t matter if it was a Sunday or a Thursday. But Colonial was very good about getting a truck to us. We had plenty of time to get from New York to Virginia to be here when the truck arrived. If I had to move out of here and go back to where I came from and that was within a 500-mile move, I wouldn’t even consider anybody else. I'd just call Colonial and go with them. They were incredibly strong and very friendly and they did a great job. Everything was overall pleasant in dealing with them. The overestimation was good because it gave us a cushion. So we ended up coming in under what the estimation was. I knew the day that they were coming in. There was a window and they said that they were going to call an hour beforehand. They ended up calling 20 minutes beforehand. But it ended up being an hour before they got there anyway. Other than that, it was fine. I got five companies and each one, including Colonial, wanted to know when and where and how much I had. They all sent me a bid and Colonial did seem to be the right fit in my mind. I chose them based on the way they behaved on the phone, the things that they said and their helpfulness. When you're moving, you want to know all the answers. They said they were gonna move me on the 3rd or the 4th. I asked when were they gonna let me know whether it was the 3rd or 4th. They said they'd let me know the week before.
The week before, I didn't hear from them so I called. I got somebody and they transferred me to somebody else. That somebody else said, "We'll let you know on Saturday." The 3rd and 4th was gonna be Tuesday and Wednesday. Nobody called me on Saturday so I called them. They ultimately said to me, "It looks like it's gonna be the 6th or the 7th," and that moved forward. Once we finally got it figured out and they did it, everything moved flawlessly.
From the standpoint of a customer moving, when somebody says they're gonna call me, they need to call me but they didn't and that happened twice. Still, my overall experience was excellent 'cause when they showed up, they were on time. They never stopped working and they didn't break anything. They didn't hit any walls. They worked diligently. The two guys were really good. They said, "We'll be there tomorrow at noon," and they were here by 12:30. They even called me an hour in advance and said, "We're about 30 minutes late." When they arrived, they brought everything in and put back together everything that they tore down.

WORST EXPERIENCE!!! ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE! I have used quite a few moving companies in the past and this was by far the worst experience I have had. Had my furniture put in storage found a place to live and reached out to schedule a delivery. Said they would work on it. After not hearing from them for a week called back. Said they would work on it and get back to me. Did this for a total of 3 weeks with me not hearing and having to call them 3-4 times a week.
Finally asked for a supervisor and he said they completely screwed up by not actually filling out the appropriate paperwork to get the furniture dispatched. Finally gave me a window for delivery. I never heard back and 1 day before my delivery window was over I called again and they said they screwed up the paperwork yet again. After 4 weeks of constant calling I still DO NOT HAVE MY FURNITURE and still have no delivery date as to when I will be receiving my stuff. Living in a hotel with 1 weeks worth of clothes and 2 small children under 10. They are holding all of my worldly possession hostage with no delivery date in sight and we are days away from Christmas. Which I would love to spend with my children in our new house.

DO NOT USE!!! STAY AWAY! I used this company when I moved from New York to Florida and it was one awful thing after another. This was a horrible experience from beginning to end. The customer service was awful. I was ignored. Emails were not responded to. Calls were not returned. When a supervisor (Deion) finally called me, he promised to call me the next day with an update, but failed to do so. When I finally got him on the phone again, he was hostile instead of apologetic. It took 24 DAYS for my stuff to arrive and was a week past the contracted window. When I initially signed up for service, Drexel said that it would likely only take 7-10 but could take as much as 2 weeks. Then it took over 3 weeks.
When I called and complained about how long it was taking and asked for updates because everything I owned in the world was somewhere and no one was telling me where it was or when I could expect it, I was treated like I was a burden. I began to think that my stuff had been stolen or was missing because no one could give me an update on what was happening and why there was such a delay. It wasn't until I threatened to stop payment on the credit card charge because I paid for a service that I had not yet received and because they were in breach of contract did I finally get a call back. That is unacceptable.
I spent THOUSANDS of dollars and had to beg to get updates because no one was calling to give me updates like they had promised, and no one was even calling me back. Colonial Van Lines outsourced the job to a company called East Coast Van Lines and they were also a nightmare to deal with. The receptionist there hung up on me when I had to get firm with her about why my stuff wasn't even scheduled to leave yet even after the window passed. But Colonial Van Lines wasn't responding so I had to call the outsourced company directly. East Coast Van Lines never should’ve taken on a work order if they didn't have enough trucks or enough man power to fill the order in time. But I did not sign a contract with them. I signed a contract with Colonial Van Lines.
It was Colonial Van Lines responsibility to ensure that my stuff got to me in a timely manner, and when I raised the issue that my things were still sitting in the warehouse in Jersey even after the window had passed, it was Colonial Van Lines responsibility to find other means to satisfy their end of the agreement and get my belongings to me. They should have found alternate means to fulfill their end of the contract by any means necessary, even if it meant cutting into their profit and finding another company to get the job done. Instead, they did NOTHING. If I was staying at hotel while I wait for my things, the delay would have cost me hundreds, if not thousands more. I was "lucky" enough to have an air mattress that made my back hurt for three weeks.
After all of this, Colonial vans could only muster up $100 as a discount despite the fact that I submitted multiple receipts because I had to buy more clothes, medicine and a new computer because mine crashed and my TWO back up computers were with my belongings. Had Colonial gotten my stuff to me on time, I would not have had to spend over $600 on a new computer, over $400 on more clothes, medicine and household items like plastic utensils, cups, paper plates, etc. I also had to keep eating takeout ($$$) because I didn't have any bowls, pots or pans to cook with.
The extra costs of not having my things delivered on time was so much money and a financial burden I was not equipped to handle. And yet, I was offered $30 a day (peanuts in comparison to the thousands I spent on this service) which was paid by East Coast Van Lines, not even by Colonial! Colonial only gave me a measly $100 discount for all of my trouble. That's just insulting. How cheap can you be? This company is as cheap as they are unreliable. To add insult to injury, both of my bookcases arrived broken. One was actually in pieces. It was completely destroyed. These are not cheap items. These are 6 foot book cases. I will have to spend a few hundred dollars to replace them.
I’ll be filing a claim with Colonial Van Lines, but I'm not confident that I'll get anything back from Colonial based on how cheap they were with their discount. The wheel to my computer chair is also missing so I now have to use a book to prop it up so I don’t tip over while I work. One of the guys who delivered my stuff was on the phone the whole time and was too busy talking to someone on his headset to listen to the directions that I was trying to give him about where the boxes should go. I also had to keep asking him to wear his mask because I have a weakened immune system, but he kept walking through the door with the mask under his chin.
I will NEVER EVER recommend Colonial Van Lines or East Coast Van Lines to anyone. No one else should have to endure what I did. This entire experience has created so much stress in my life and cost me so much more money than was necessary. This company is HORRIBLE. The people that work for this company are HORRIBLE! Everything was HORRIBLE! If I could give this company zero stars, I would.

They quoted me the cheapest price, so I went with them over the other ones that quoted me a more expensive price to do the exact same job. They were easy to work with. They answered anything I had. The guys who picked up my stuff and moved everything were great. It was easy, not too much hassle, and they were really prompt when I shot any questions over to them. The move was on short notice, so they got me in rather quickly and stuff showed up sooner than I expected. So that was good. They did a good job.

We were moving from Columbia, South Carolina to Edmond, Oklahoma, and at the time, Colonial Van Lines gave us the best price. They were able to do everything virtually as well. The initial moving coordinator was not helpful and was giving me misinformation, so I ended up with a supervisor named Veronica and she was excellent. However, we would like to have seen less damages.
Thank you for the review Veronica!

I've used Colonial in the past. They've always been very good about communication and keeping up with information. I've always found that the moving companies that they subcontract with tend to be of good quality. The people that I dealt with were great. There was a little bit of a miscommunication of when I booked versus when information got passed on the people. There was a little bit of an overlap where I had heard from the customer service rep at Colonial after I heard from the moving company directly, and they didn't know that. Nothing went wrong, but there might have been a little bit of wonkiness with the timeline.
The moving company that they used was great and they were really easy to work with. I had one challenge that could have potentially been a problem. Luckily, it wasn't. They had planned to deliver at the address that I was going to a day before I was planning on being at that address. But I was able to work it out with my landlord in order to move in a day early. Colonial had all that information of when my moving day was. So there was no issue that arose from it.

Everything went well until I called them and told them that a box that we know some stuff was missing. We sent them an email asking for it and all I got was the check, but I've never heard back from them. I’ve emailed them multiple times. Also, the quote was not accurate. The money was double what they quoted me, because my mother had so much stuff. But, as far as time, they were there when they said they were going to be, and they delivered when they said they would. The people were very nice.

I spoke with a lot of different companies and some of them were really, really high-pressured. I also didn't like the way that they estimated the cost and the weight. It didn't make sense to me that there were these extreme differences in prices. So it came down to the point that I liked the guy in the Colonial office, the price seemed reasonable, and I liked the fact that they were gonna weigh my goods and not just estimate because the estimates were off by a considerable amount. So it cost less than everybody thought it would.
The guy I dealt with in the office and the moving guys were very nice. But I sustained significant damage to some of my furniture. They got everything delivered, and they were rushing to get back to Rhode Island. So I wasn't able to look around when they did the delivery. But I never filed a claim because I was donating the one piece of furniture that was badly damaged anyway. But there were some big gouges. When they were here, they were using a hand dolly. Before they put my sofa on it, I noticed that there were these very ragged edges of the hand dolly. If they had put my sofa on that dolly, it would have ripped the material. So I immediately covered it up with some duct tape. Other than that, they were prompt and very pleasant. When the guy from Colonial called me, I told him that they really need to factor in allowing people to inspect things before the delivery people absolutely run out.

They have good reviews online and when I did the online estimate for the quote, they were the cheapest. Carlos was so sweet. He explained everything. It was a good experience. They were quick and they did better than I expected.

Diana was the first person to call me, and she was wonderful and honest. The movers were wonderful, kind, and professional. They took care of our stuff. They wonderfully said that they were going to be in Ohio on time and they were. The cost was okay. There was no surprises after they weighed our stuff. The truck was not big enough but that was because we had a ton of boxes. They made the move that much easier.

Everybody from Colonial Van Lines was great. We moved from Florida to Tennessee. Everything went great. The guys that came were wonderful, and they were on time. They were really nice.

Everybody else was very nice but they didn't have anybody that could come see how much stuff I was trying to move so they couldn't really give me a good estimate. Colonial was able to give me a better estimate since they had someone come by and take a look. There was a little hitch though. They said they'd come early but they did not which was a little bit irritating. But after that, everything was perfect. They showed up when they said they would and got everything packed. We got everything on its way. The movers were very nice.
After they looked at everything, they had an estimate of how much stuff it was and it ended up being less. But it was nothing they did wrong. There were boxes they had to pack so I couldn't give them a correct estimate of how many boxes there were. I ended up not needing as much services as I had asked for. However, I am still waiting for a refund. I'm not sure why the refund is taking so long. They said I’ll have it around Thanksgiving. I talked to them on the 25th and that's the last time I've heard from anybody.
We appreciate you choosing Colonial Mrs. Davis!

We moved a few years ago and used a small local company. I was hoping to have a company that was a little more organized this time around. I paid a whole lot more with Colonial but it was okay. I spoke first with Tanisha and she was wonderful. She answered the phone every time. Everything was fine. There were a few minor things. I had a laundry bag at the last minute and I threw my Crocs in it. I found one shoe on the floor in one of the rooms but I have no idea where the other shoe is. We ended up with a large needlepoint of tigers but it doesn't belong to us.
