Nicholas, the first person I talked to, was extremely knowledgeable and very efficient. I was very pleased with him. He was great and knew what he was doing. He understood what I wanted and was able to do it at a reasonable cost. It was a different group than Colonial Van Lines that picked up everything. The driver and the three other people didn't speak English but they were extremely fast at working and they kept themselves busy working. They got it done and got out of here. I was gonna watch them how they packed dishes and before I knew it, they were all packed.

I spoke with a representative online and talked to him on the phone to get a whole set of what was going to be moved. I quoted it out to a few different companies, and Colonial had the best pricing, guarantee and timeline. They picked up on a Saturday and delivered on Tuesday. It was fast. I talked to the driver and I had an account manager who walked me through the process. It was smooth and efficient. I definitely would use Colonial Van Lines again.

The experience with Colonial was great. They came and moved us from Mississippi to Atlanta. We have no complaints at all with the service or the quality of their work or the courtesy. The communication was good. They told us they would pick it up on a Tuesday and they would have it to us on Thursday or Friday. They started for Mississippi at six o'clock from my house, and at 8:30 Wednesday morning, they were sitting in my apartment in Atlanta, Georgia to unload. If I would be moving in the future, I'd use them again. I wish they'd have been cheaper, but I know it costs a lot to move cross-country.

It was a good experience for a cross-country move. Our rep, Annie, was great. Everybody was a pleasure to work with. They showed up and got it done professionally. There were lots of communication. We packed our own house. But we had a couple of items that were TVs. They brought some mattress bags for them. We added a couple additional items to the list, and we had an extra charge of $600 which is minimal.

We were both retired military and we had our house packed up and moved into storage. So, I was able to forward them a copy of the military moving company and what they boxed up and put into storage. I was able to hand it to the rep and he was able to look at that and give me a direct quote. We came in at about 1,000 pounds below what we had estimated and the bill didn't change. But if we had come in 1,000 pounds over, that bill would have gone up. Another issue that we had was we were given a 72-hour window to be at said location because we're not living in New Mexico anymore. So, we flew out to New Mexico and sat there for 72 hours. They busted the 72-hour window by about 36 hours. So we had to stay in New Mexico an extra night.

Colonial gave us a window of a week out. So I booked airline tickets, and then they tried to do it ahead of our schedule. But I said, "Look, you gave us this window, a week out. We bought airline tickets. We're going to be here during this time." So they said, "Okay." We ended up having to stay an extra day and a half waiting for the movers to come. So out of that 72-hour window, they came the next evening after that 72-hour period. They showed up at 5:00pm, but they completely had our storage unit packed out by midnight.

The two guys drove over the weekend and they showed up at our house in Northwest Florida Monday evening that same time in the evening and unloaded everything and they left at 10:00pm. Other than being night movers, nothing was broken. The two gentlemen who did the work were absolutely phenomenal. Overall, it was a decent experience with a few minor glitches. Also, they were at least 50% less than every other mover.

In the beginning, I cancelled the contract with Colonial because the guy who was supposed to drive the truck to pick up my stuff told me I need to accommodate an 18-wheeler when we had agreed on a box truck. I couldn't accommodate an 18-wheeler so I cancelled it. When I cancelled the contract, I went with another moving company, and they didn't have the documentation needed to enter my building. So on moving day, I couldn't move, and I called Colonial back and they were able to accommodate me right there. They still had my records and they had not deleted anything, so they were able to get the contract back up and going and able to move me two days later. The truck we had agreed on also offered a discount, so I got them back. They were good. I'm satisfied with Colonial. I would use them again.

Their Resolution manager contacted me and we were able to reach an agreeable resolution. Colonial is fortunate to have Donna as their resolution manager. She is a dedicated employee who cares about customer satisfaction.

    Original Review: Nov. 18, 2022

Colonial van lines. Pompano Beach, Florida. In my opinion, Colonial van lines is the worst company to choose for your move. Please take a minute and read this review. I can only hope that it saves you from the disastrous moving experience we had with this unscrupulous company. Our experience started when we were looking for a mover to move my wife’s mother from an independent living facility in NJ to an assisted living facility near us in Florida. When we contacted Colonial van lines for an estimate we were immediately impressed with their estimates Zack.

After we explained our situation (moving a 91-year-old woman to Florida and the need to do it as fast as possible), Zack asked us to hold while he checked with his dispatcher. When he returned he said that if we could delay our schedule for one week, he could have one of their own straight trucks pick up the goods and deliver them to Florida on the same truck. He also said that this would cost extra but that it would be best since it would be on their truck and not be subcontracted to another carrier.

Colonial turned out to be the most expensive quote we received, but we decided to go with them so that we would be sure to have a fast and efficient moving experience. As it turned out we did not receive anything Zack promised and we paid extra for. Two days prior to pick up we get an email stating that one of their preferred suppliers, Always Affordable Moving, would be picking up and delivering our shipment. They said our delivery schedule would not change. At this point almost everything was packed, airline tickets were purchased, notice given to her facility and we were put in a position where we had no other alternative.

Move out was completed on 8/1 and we flew to Florida expecting delivery between 8/4 and 8/13. On 8/12 I called and was told by Bernadette that she would call on 8/15 with an update. She’s never did call. On 8/15 I called again and was told that she had no idea when delivery would be. On 8/16 I called and asked to speak to Bernadette's supervisor Stephanie **. I left a message for her but never received a return call. On 8/17 I called again and got Bernadette, she still had no idea when our shipment would arrive. I asked to speak to Stephanie Little’s supervisor and spoke to Erika Ruth. She said she would look not it and get back to me. Erika is the Operations Manager and she did not get back to me either.

On 8/18 I called Erika again but only got her voicemail. She never returned my call. On 8/19 I called again and got Bernadette. Left messages for Stephanie and Erika but neither one returned my call. It is important to note that we still did not have a deliver date. I continued to call every day and neither Stephanie or Erika would return calls and we still had no idea if or when we would receive our shipment. Finally, we received notice that our delivery would be 8/27 two weeks late! Instead of the straight truck we paid extra to get, it arrived on a trailer truck. With only the driver to deliver everything alone! When I started checking in the shipment, I noticed that items and boxes were soaking wet. I asked the driver if his truck leaked and he said no…..their warehouse in NJ where our goods were stored has a leaky roof! 18% of our items were received soaking wet!

We were given a credit of $30/day for the late delivery but were not compensated for the change in service level we paid for. I contacted Erika ** after the move and asked for an adjustment of the price based on not receiving the service we paid for. She said she needed a week to review our situation and would get back to us. Now, six weeks later and three follow-up emails to her, we still have not been contacted. If the Operations Manager of a company does not return customer calls then it is little wonder why nobody else in the organization cares about customer service. Do yourselves a favor and avoid this company.

When my things were supposed to be delivered, the hurricane was coming through. Initially, the moving company told me I was gonna have to pay for the storage charges, and they couldn't come back and deliver for a week or so and I was gonna have to pay a week's worth of storage charges. So I called Colonial Van Lines, and they straightened all that out for me. They said, "No, you're not gonna pay anything for that." They didn't charge me one other fee as a result of that whole experience in the delay.

I was very happy that when I had a complaint, they resolved it really quickly and fairly for me. But I wasn't as happy with my experience with the person that was supposed to be communicating with me throughout the move time. That person would call very rarely and the communication was very poor. The condo required us to have the moving company have insurance. I gave Colonial Van Lines that information three weeks ahead of time, but it wasn't done on the day of the move. So I spent all day on the phone. But once I got to a manager, they really helped me.

The move was about 2,000 miles and their service was great. With all these kinds of things, it's never perfect. I understand that they do contracting with other movers. So when I book an order with them, sometimes they subcontract those efforts to other drivers and that can get messy because they're trying to coordinate multiple efforts with a logistics sort of situation. But whatever hiccups they did have, they were quick to resolve. They provided excellent customer service. I would use them again and I would definitely recommend them. But I would recommend that for anyone who really has a firm date on when they want to move, they need to purchase premium service. Because with Colonial, when you sign a contract without premium, it's just an estimated delivery date.

The rep we talked to was very nice and professional. She worked with my wife and me and we got the inventory down right. When the mover got here, he went over the inventory and everything was correct the way it was supposed to be so there were no surprises. He was a couple of hours late but that was better than a no-show and at least he called. We had a little bit of damage at the end, though. We have damage on the piano and we found out that the refrigerator no longer works. They had to take the doors off and the drawers out of the refrigerator and when they put it back together, something was wrong somewhere. But other than that, we're happy with the experience.

Description of Complaint: Colonial has deceived me on the price per pound that I paid. Original price based on the weight alone (10,990 POUNDS) was $.5187/pound. When rewrite was done based on 11,214 was $.7827/pound. The truck weight after my goods were loaded was only 6,265 pounds. Under their estimate by 4,949 pounds! The original estimate has a line item charge of $2,854.23 for a Binding Estimate Fee. Why does this fee NOT appear on the rewrite? I believe it is so they could up the charge per pound so the Total Moving Estimates would come in close to the same amount per pound on the Totals!! Only a $.001 per pound difference.

This company has many ways to be deceitful on how they are charging you. Be sure, if you use them, that the price per pound is filled in. It was NOT even a line item on my original paperwork and left blank on the rewrite. I never signed and approved the rewrite and asked them 4 times to send me a copy. I have never received a signed copy. My goods would/could not be unloaded from the truck until I paid what Colonial required so I was manipulated to pay what they said, otherwise incurring additional charges. After my goods were unloaded I received a copy of the rewrite, but NOT a signed copy. After I wrote my original complaint Colonial contacted me and offered a monetary settlement if I would give them a 5 star rating. This is against the BBB rules. If I wanted the compensation I would first have to send them a copy of the post! One more way of deceit. This is a Bait and Switch Company. BUYER BEWARE!

There was a change between the quote they gave us and the final cost because there were a few things that were heavier than I had anticipated and we had a couple of more boxes than we had anticipated. Two guys came and did a great job. They worked hard and didn't have any stuff damaged. But there was a lot of miscommunication. I got a call asking if they could come a couple of days early and I said they could. Then, I got another call the next day that said that they were just gonna come on the day scheduled. So that was fine. But they showed up a couple of days early when I wasn't quite ready. They got me early and that was good. But we had slowed down because of the call, thinking that they were going to come the day of. I liked Colonial's price though it went up. It had a lot to do with having more weight than what we had anticipated. It wasn't too bad and that was to be expected.

If I could rate any lower I would START at -5 stars. Not only is moving a stressful process. This company has lied to us numerous times within our initial pickup date by saying the truck broke down. Come to find out, they didn't even talk to the dispatch OR truck driver. We planned to turn off our electricity and water from our old place, but was told to wait 2 extra days for the movers to come pick-up our stuff for the move. It has been 10 days and we have had NOT 1, NOT 2, BUT 3 total different people assigned as our moving coordinators. Every single person we have talked to about this over the phone to get an ETA or any possible update where our stuff is even located, has given us ALL DIFFERENT INFORMATION.

We are constantly trying to figure out a correct eta when our stuff is being delivered. They also stated they would only be giving us a 30$ discount/reimbursement for THEIR fault. They privately hire contractors to pick-up & deliver. Also they don't tell you the route or how many stops will be along the way. They state they have contact with the driver but again was a lie. After trying to contact a manager or higher-up. We were given even less attention and no remorse for our belongings as we have already set a down payment of 1,500$. Our total is almost 4,000 for 300 miles.

None of the customer service will give names to help you define your case. This place is a scam and already been notified to local police, Better Business Bureau. Not to mention I don't know where or when my stuff will even arrive. AVOID THIS MOVING COMPANY AT ALL COST. GRADE A SCAM!!!! Will post updates to this post as I learn more about this company and wherever my stuff ended up.

Customer service is terrible besides Donna who is on call strictly because the company is so awful and unprofessional. Armenia A. We left messages for six days saying that day was impossible for us to move. We heard from them late in the day before they said they were gonna show up. They said they had moved the move to the next day. Other than that, as far as the move itself, the company they subbed it out to, Little John, was excellent. She walked me through everything that I needed to know and was really detailed in providing me with a ton of information. She was extremely polite and very patient with me.

Then, the movers immediately got ahold of me. I gave them the list of all the belongings. I even had to make several changes and they were extremely patient with me and provided me with additional savings because I had less than what I thought I was going to have. They walked me through everything and confirmed it a couple of times, which was really good because it kept changing for me. They called me every step of the way from Illinois to Texas letting me know where they were and they took excellent care of my belongings. Colonial went above and beyond from the beginning all the way to the end. I was so happy.

I contacted Colonial well in advance to be moved from Indiana to North Carolina. They said no problem, we can make that move for you. I paid a nice size down payment, and confirmed my moving date. When date came, they told me they had no trucks in Indiana, maybe try for tomorrow. For three or 4 days, I got this run-a-round. I had to be out of my house in just a few short days. I got on the phone and found another company that agreed on Thursday to move me either Friday or Sat and I picked Saturday. Even though the cost was 50% higher than colonial, I got moved.

When the other company was there packing the moving van, I got a call from colonial stating they had no trucks in Indiana to move us, and they didn’t know when they would have. How can a company say they would move you on a date, and not make sure they had trucks available for the move. Don’t ever trust Colonial to do a move for you cause you can’t trust them to keep their word.

Colonial Van Lines had another pickup and another drop-off, and I was fine with that. We went from Virginia Beach to San Antonio, and the movers took a week, which was enough time. 'Cause I was more concerned with the delivery date than the pickup date. The only issue we had was moving the items into storage when they arrived. We loaded with three people, but they only hired two people to unload and we definitely could use the other person. I ended up helping them offload to storage while the other one unpacked the truck. So we ultimately chose them because of the good price and they were well-reviewed. We moved from California to Pennsylvania. The pickup was fine. The drop off was better scheduled. But overall, it was better than I expected. The final price ended up being exactly what they said it would be. They were super communicative, and their customer service was really good. We used their full pack option, so we didn't pack anything. They were quick and they were pretty careful with the little things. But on a macro level, some of the furniture was damaged. My wife called a couple of different places and got a couple of quotes. One of the deciding factors was that I had a gun safe full of guns that I could not transport myself. It’s too heavy. Colonial agreed to transport it on the truck to get it across country, where the other company that we called didn't want anything to do with it. Colonial gave us a good quote and my wife was happy with the guy that she talked to. Two guys showed up and loaded our whole house up into a truck in one day. It went pretty well. The productivity was great. Those guys went at it hard all day long. The only real concern I had with the whole move was that somewhere along the line they had to switch trucks, which means they had to unload that truck and then load it on to another truck. Between all the handling, some of the stuff got kinda crushed and scratched.

From the start, Colonial Van Lines was either dishonest or incompetent. I provided them with both pickup and delivery addresses, but they were unprepared for whether the truck would be able to get there. Their lack of preparation meant that the move took much longer & cost me much more than quoted. My understanding was that there would be a person assigned to my move to help & answer my questions. when I last spoke with that person before the scheduled pick-up time, she said the driver was an hour & a half away. I waited 4 hours past the time the truck should have been here & couldn't reach ANYONE to find out what was going on. The truck didn't arrive on that day at all. Spoke with the driver the next morning & he explained why he didn't make it here. No one had informed me of what was going on. (After that, I did get the driver's number so that I had direct contact). Then, a shuttle was needed & had not been arranged.

When it came time for delivery, the truck was to arrive Wednesday morning. I waited & waited & then called the driver to find they were trying to decide if the truck would be able to come down my street. The determination is that it wouldn't so needed to get a shuttle truck. Again, it had not been arranged. Because of that, once more the office contacted me for more money. Basically they would hold my household goods hostage until I gave them more money. The truck (small) didn't arrive until the end of the day. The 2 drivers had hired 2 local crew & the 4 of them got busy unloading. When that was done, it was late & they said they would come back in the morning to finish.

Thursday, they arrived with the shuttle truck, but without the extra 2 person crew. So it took longer for the 2 drivers to offload the truck. Then they got word that the shuttle truck was due back. So they had to return that & get another, which meant that by the time they got that unloaded it was quite late & THEY WEREN'T YET FINISHED. Friday, the 2 came back with one more small truck with the last of my things. Delivery took 4 trips in 3 days. I needed the Thursday & Friday to arrange utilities & get the house ready for family, but wasn't able to because of the long waits for delivery to be completed.

Because I had voiced complaints, their 'fixer' contacted me for a resolution that would cause me to change my review to 5 stars. Donna offered me $400 to that end. I thought $400 refunded from an over $15,000 bill to be insufficient especially since nothing was ever mentioned about improving their service so that this didn't happen to anyone else. I refused the bribe. The whole move was a huge pain. I suggest that you DO NOT USE COLONIAL VAN LINES!!

Colonial was very quick to respond. The person who answered the phone and created the quote was very knowledgeable and good. Not only did they pick up my stuff and arrange for the movers, but they also stored my stuff for a few months and then they moved. The quote included the move from Charlotte, a storage in Atlanta, and then picking my stuff up from storage and moving it to the Orlando house. From the coordinator itself, who I spoke to and got the quote, it was pretty accurate. The movers that they hired, the Atlanta Company Moving, were phenomenal. So they hired a good company to move me. But it was customer service I had a problem with. I’m supposed to get $350 credit back and they never gave it to me.

I had a really bad experience with Budget. Guys came and held my stuff hostage until I paid them $600 in cash. I did extensive research on my next mover because I was packed up and ready to go. When I looked up movers, I wanted it to be the company that came and not a sublet company. I found Colonial and the movers were wonderful. They handled our stuff with respect. Most of our stuff was broken before Colonial got to it because the movers prior threw our stuff in our garage. I suggested Colonial to my mother-in-law. Unfortunately, they didn't do state to state and only moved long distances.

Colonial Van Lines arrived a couple of days late, but they laid that out to me. By and large, the experience was good with one exception. I got a bunch of quotes for movers and I chose Colonial. The quote given to me was $14,500, which was in my budget and was fine. Then, we arranged to have the carrier come and pick it up, which was great. He arrived on time, picked it all up, loaded it into his truck, and he told me that the estimated quote changed from $14,500 to $22,000, which was way beyond my budget. And I he got that number as he submitted the inventory back to Colonial. What was in the inventory is what we had talked about in the quote. So, the invoice for the estimate went way up.

I understood that the final invoice will be generated once they weighed the truck and we got a quote for $1.29 a pound. They weighed the truck in transit and it turned out to be a bit higher, which was $16,000. So, a bit higher than the 14,500. But that $22,000 estimate in the middle gave me a heart attack. So, an improved experience would be, "Hey, Chris, it's gonna cost you $1.29 a pound. And however many pounds you give us, we're gonna roll the truck onto a scale and we're gonna charge you whatever that is." That would have been a much more comfortable experience and I would have made different decisions in how I packed them when I moved.

We did a move with Colonial from New Jersey to Michigan. Our stuff took about a week and a half to arrive here. Communication was good and we received information about when they were on their way, on the day of, and it was with enough time to make that work. It was a little strange when our stuff got dropped off. We got one notification saying that it was going to be one day. But then we got information two days later that was actually coming earlier. I was happy that it was coming earlier so it was good news.

The cost ended up being much more expensive than we anticipated because of the driveway situation and how they needed to use shuttles instead of just using a regular truck both at our old apartment and the new home. That was frustrating. Other than that, everything came within the promised timeframe which was great. I appreciate that everything arrived in mostly one piece and there were only a couple of lamps broken. But that's to be expected. Everything else was done well, especially considering they had to move all of our stuff on a truck and then off a truck to a shuttle van.

The timelines that were provided were accurate, and they were very communicative in the days leading up to it and on the day of as well, which was helpful. One thing that was weird was the person that was picking it up contacted me about the pickup dates. And I had to tell Colonial Van Lines when they were coming. They came. I was happy. But that was confusing to me that Colonial didn't know who was coming or when.

There was also some confusion on how I would pay for the rest of it. The person that came to pick up the move said that I had to pay in cash or a certified check. And Colonial had told me, up, down, and sideways in all the paperwork and on multiple calls that I could pay on the credit card that I had left with them. And they even told me several times after the move had started that I could pay with the credit card when I told Colonial, “Hey, the mover guy told me I can't.” And I confirmed with one of the representatives over the phone that I couldn't. Another representative later on told me that I could and the paperwork said I could. So, it was confusing, but it all worked out fine. I was happy. I’d use Colonial again, if that's the thing that's helpful.

They had the best quote and got back to me and that's important when you're out there trying to get business and trying to talk to people. You get people to call you right back. That's rare these days. So, it went very well. And anytime I called Lauren about anything, she was right there and got back to me right away. We were very happy with how it went. Very quick. They kept in touch. I even made a change towards the tail end and we replaced it with something else.

The guys that came to the house were very professional. They knew what they were doing. They were very good at what they did. They got down to the house the next day, my wife was down there waiting for them and they took care of it, threw everything in, took care of the bed, put it together like they said they would. When we left Greeley, Colorado, it took about four days. They called and said they would be coming the next day to unload from where they were at that time. It's 1,800 miles they had to drive. So, it was quite a trip. It was all right except I didn't know that Colonial Van Lines would be changing companies between Greeley and Milford to Connecticut. Different truck, different guys unloading. Then his wife unloaded. So, our furniture was moved around a bit. Maybe they told me that and I misunderstood or didn't hear him. But they should be thorough with the instructions. A trip that long, they guessed how long it would take. So if they miss it one or two days, it could be trouble with the vehicle or it could be an accident or it could be road construction. Who knows what it could be? Other than that, everything went well. Colonial did a good job.

Apparently this company has no trucks. Since the 10th and it is now the 19th their truck has been broken and they still have no alternative or expectation of delivery in the near future. There is a reasonable expectation that they would deliver within the parameters of the contract, which they have not, or at least close to it. They asked if I expect more than $30 compensation. There is no manager available to speak to and no answers. I have asked at least 4 times and am told no request is in my file. Picking up of my things was not smooth either with changes every few hours for 3 days. Finally only a driver showed up with no help. He finally got some help and then left because he forgot something.

The explanation I was give for what would be blanket wrapped, including lamps, turned out to be false. I had to put lamps in boxes and the mirror and curio cabinet were not blanket wrapped but the they charged me to box them. Now my home goods sit held hostage because they can’t figure out how to make the delivery.

Funny, I heard Penske and I haul rent trucks and there must be a driver doing nothing if the truck is broken. Rent a truck if yours is broken and the only one. Make two trips if you have to. It is called the cost of doing business and customer service. We won’t even speak about the times I was put perpetually on hold or hung up on. I make no recommendation for this company as it is currently operating as a less than viable option for moving.

Customer service was able to resolve the issues that arose with my move. I would advise future clients to avoid the moving insurance -- it is through a 3rd party, not Colonial Van Lines. That 3rd party is difficult to deal with, though the customer service at Colonial Van Lines helped significantly.

    Original Review: Aug. 16, 2022

Provided me a binding quote (their term not mine) for an out-of-state move. When it came time for delivery the driver tried to shake me down for extra fees. He refused to park where other similar sized moving trucks had pulled into my neighborhood. Instead he parked further away and charged an upcharge for distance. Then charged an upcharge for time since I hadn't received and therefor hadn't paid this new invoice for his added distance fee.

While I was on the phone with customer service the driver left (customer service spoke with the driver and asked him to stay but he left anyway -- said they weren't his boss) and charged me another no-delivery/re-return fee. Customer service was friendly enough and tried reduce some of the charges, but the driver controls when he will/will not work and controls the shakedown for more money before he starts anything with the delivery. Will not use again. Cannot recommend strongly enough that you avoid using them.

We had a very good experience with Colonial. The rep I worked with was very good at organizing what needed to be done on my side, helping me with the decisions. Colonial did everything that they promised. The people that physically did our move were really good people. They're not just good workers. They were the kind of people that you would want to deal with. Colonial all the way along kept in contact with me. They called me to make sure that I was on the mark for the actual moving date, whether or not I had more boxes than I anticipated. They increased the size of my order, which made me hesitant, but ultimately, it meant that I was paying less per pound. So everything worked out. They anticipated my size very accurately by my descriptions from their questions.

We arrived Thursday night. We called. They said, "We can't deliver till Tuesday." The reason why is that they usually deliver with two men to offload. I asked if they could still deliver on Friday 'cause we had a short window that we were going to be there for. In that one request, the driver said he would deliver our order 'cause it was a small enough order. It was 3,000 pounds and we had no furniture. He said he would deliver it himself. It took him a lot longer by himself, but he delivered it on Friday instead of on Monday or Tuesday when he would have the second gentleman to help him. I couldn't have asked for a better move.

I would like to file reviews on Colonial Van Lines and their vendor BCM Moving (NJ), for unethical practices, inadequate and inefficient business practices, price gouging, non-communication and simply not keeping their word. I originally set up the move timeframe (as they indicated, they give a 3 day window for pickup) for July 19-21st.

The first person I spoke with was Nasheena- she sounded very confident in selling me the business, their effectiveness as a moving company and through her marketing words- it sounded like this was a company that would be honorable to handle my move. I informed her I had a 1 bedroom (because I was getting rid of several things) and so all of my things would be in the living room except for my bedroom. I also let her know that I would pack my things and she indicated that the movers would pack my larger items. She asked me specific questions around inventory and I answered, which brought us to an agreement that my move would be under the 3000 pounds. The estimate I was given on July 5th was: $4627.54. Of that amount I paid the deposit: $1716.13.

From this point I followed Nashena M. guidance and awaited the call for when they would confirm actual pickup. From the 3 day window she shared I would get a call 24-48 hours ahead of time. And so July 15th, 16th and 17th arrived and I HEARD NOTHING. I CALLED THEM on July 16th and July 18th and was able to confirm the pickup would be on July 19th, 8 am -12 pm ET. I informed Nashena M. prior that I had to secure parking spaces and that it would be important for them to be on time.

By this point I was assigned a move coordinator: Faith **. Faith indicated, and confirmed the time and indicated I should be good to go. The day of July 19th- Prior I had secured the parking spaces and waited outside for the movers. Note: I found out later on that Colonial Van Lines uses a third party vendor (BCM Relocation- NJ)to pick up your stuff. This was not shared by Nashena. Continuing… On July 19th, I never received a call from dispatch, nor anyone as I waited for an 1.5hr. I called Colonial (several times) before getting a hold of someone and they proceeded to tell me ”They are on their way.” I waited another 30 minutes and called again and the same representative proceeded to tell me that the dispatch has said “They are close.” I waited more time and called again only to be told by Faith Wheldon that my move date has now shifted to July 21st.

This caused me to shift my move out time, I had to re-secure parking spaces? ($50), building elevator and I had to shift my flight to EOW on July 22nd ($200+) when my plan was to be out of NJ on July 21st. I also had to let the property management company know that I was now moving out at a different time than I originally shared.

Next, I shared with Faith ** all of the above and we came to the agreement that the original estimate would be adjusted ($4627.54) as a result of this inconvenience. She indicated she would be talking with the Finance department and she would have a manager contact me. Prior to hanging up from that specific call, I asked her to send me an account of the day's events for my records and an email confirming what we agreed upon in terms of a reduction in price. Even as I write a complaint, NO manager has contacted me, text, no left a voicemail and Faith never SENT A DETAILED email of what we agreed upon.

Next, July 21st arrives. I didn’t receive a call from dispatch nor did I receive a call from the movers. I called BCM who picked up as they were 1.75 hours later. I waited almost 2 hours outside holding parking spaces, the elevator and reminded them they were supposed to be there 2 hours earlier. Then the movers proceed to tell me they have to repack my items and then added an additional $351.00 to my estimate. I was also told that the inventory did not match even though my stuff still was not equivalent to a full 1 bedroom. They then proceeded to tell me that the new estimated weight would be 4000 pounds even though nothing had been weighed and they drove the estimate up to $8625.24. This is almost double my estimate but I do not have double the stuff. Note:

This amount I will not be paying. The movers from BCM told me I would need to pay $2000, even though Faith ** and Nashena told me that the remaining original balance would be paid upon delivery of my items. That original left over amount since I had paid the deposit and now had paid the $1500 to BCM ( their Vendor) is now $1411.14.

Note: Before I paid the $1.5k I had BCM and Faith ** from Colonial speak with one another as neither party seemed to know the process and in fact were also disputing if anything was owed the day of pickup. Nonetheless I paid $1.5k the day of pickup, now leaving $1411.41 of the original estimate left to pay. I also disputed the new estimated amount listed above ($8625.24) and was told in order for them to actually leave with my pick-up I had to sign their paperwork. I signed the paperwork and included a note on the paperwork that “this was not the agreed upon amount, nor did it reflect a discounted amount per my discussion with Faith when the inconsistencies began.”

When their vendor BCM left on Thursday, July 21st– I have never received a follow-up, no call or communication from Faith, BCM or dispatch aka Colonial Van Lines. In fact, I contacted them on July 27th. Faith Wheldon was not available to speak nor was a manager. But I did speak with a CS Agent who claimed to be a manager, had a rude disposition and was hosting a side conversation about her kids. I was told by this agent (Kiana) that the drop off window (July 22nd - August 1st) was no longer the drop off window and my stuff was still sitting in NJ. The new window she quoted was August 3- 6th. She then indicated she would also make a note to have a manager and Faith call me, but again as I write this complaint no one has contacted me.

Please, I need help to secure my things from Colonial Van Lines and BCM Relocation: At the original estimate($4627.54) minus the reduction. For the correct paperwork to arrive with the original estimate amount and the reduction. To not be charge post drop off. For my items to be put back together as agreed upon. For my items to arrive intact as they were picked up. For my items to arrive prior to August 6th. A Call from management with a hard copy email with the agreed upon resolution to all of these inconsistencies and practices. For Colonial Van Lines and BCM to come to their own agreement prior to arriving at my address in GA. Before escalating this further to other entities, I would like these resolutions and for the company to take this time to review and resolve immediately.

Update: Week of August 1st. I spoke with Elsi (a CS agent) who was trying to assist me, but unfortunately her attempts have fallen short. She reached out to the Financial department for James– he has not called me back. She also shared that the supervisor Stephanie Little should give me a call– that has not happened either. I also STILL do not know about the paperwork and STILL I DO NOT KNOW WHERE MY STUFF IS. Elsi contacted dispatch on her end and they told her my things were in route.

On August 5th I called and Faith ** picked up. She never indicated why she hasn’t called over the last few weeks, nor why a manager STILL has not called over these past 3 weeks. She indicated she didn't know where my things were and that BCM was still the provider they were using. Once again she said the Finance department would be reaching out but it’s the same templated response I’ve gotten from her over the past 3- 4 weeks. At this point, it sounds like a lie. She indicated she would give me a call back today after 4 pm with an ETA on my things since the 2nd delivery window (since they missed the first window) closes tomorrow. She also indicated she couldn’t see the paperwork in the system which is odd considering my things were picked up on July 21st and BCM would have sent the paperwork. More lies and problematic business practices. And I keep getting the runaround. I’ve called 20 times.

I followed up at 4 pm per Faith’s request– she indicated that the “driver” per her dispatch discussion was out. I then asked why not request a new driver. She tells me nothing and continues to pawn off responsibility. I asked to speak to a manager or supervisor. She proceeds to tell me again that she put in a request to have someone call me. And this is beginning to feel like theft and fraud. WHERE IS MY STUFF?!!!

Colonial's price seemed acceptable. My experience with their rep was positive and informative. I knew what was happening and when. The only real complaint I had was that I assumed it was going to be a same-day move but it wasn't. I had everything ready to go. A single driver showed up. He packed my apartment in Summerville, South Carolina on his truck in about an hour, including a very heavy glass desk. Then he met me here in Augusta, Georgia five days later. Again, he unpacked it all himself in about an hour. It was impressive.

I was impressed with Colonial. I was very nervous about hiring a moving company because you hear all these horror stories. But this was absolutely not the case for me. Colonial did a good job. They were reasonable on their prices too. I had kind of a unique situation. I found a place to rent, but I couldn't move in until August. They didn't move my belongings for a month. They were very understanding and more than willing to get that set up. It turned out the place had been vacated two weeks earlier than previously expected. I was anxious to get in there. I asked them if there was any way I could move up my moving date. The rep told me he'd check with their logistics. He called me back within the hour and said they could get to me as early as the next week.

The only negative I have towards the whole experience was I was trying to arrange airline tickets and other things around the move and I wasn't sure which day it would be. There was a window of three days. I had to find a place to stay after they picked up. I had to get my tickets afterwards 'cause I wasn't sure when they were coming. If somebody could have just said they were going to be there Monday or Tuesday, not Monday or Tuesday or Wednesday or Thursday, that would have helped.

Colonial Van Lines was amazing and they're reasonably priced. I had some concerns regarding weight and a change in what our weight would be and what our charges would be, and they were able to get me a quick response. On the moving day, the movers showed up at the house. Colonial subcontracts through another company but they were coordinating with that company. The movers assessed everything that needed to be moved, tagged them and inventoried them. Then they gave me a brief overview of what they thought the weight was going to be based off their experience. Anything that was loose, they consolidated for me to try to get the item listed down.

The driver of the truck picked up some workers to deliver and bring the stuff into the house. They didn't appear qualified. They were ambitious and motivated but they were very young and underweight for moving the furniture that we had into the house. I had to help them. I let Colonial know and they said they were going to speak with the driver. Other than that, the service was good. 99.9% of our stuff arrived unscathed.

Colonial was less upfront about the cost than I would have preferred. The upfront cost was so much different than the final cost. Some of the communications, like as to how many boxes and the size of the boxes weren't quite clear. So, it ended up costing quite a bit more than I had budgeted for. But the reps were all fantastic and very nice. The crew that came out were very friendly and quite efficient. It took about eight hours to get everything packed up so it was a lengthy amount of time. There was a lot of running in and out but everything was packed up smoothly. I'm impressed by how efficiently they were able to get all the furniture wrapped. They had packed even a few more things that probably didn't need to get packed quite that extreme. But they were just careful. So, it's fine.

I am updating my review to 4 stars due to a conversation I had with Donna with Colonial Van Lines. Now everything I wrote in my review was honest and actually happened. It wasn't until I posted my experience on the Consumer Affairs website that I got a phone call from Donna saying that if she could help financially, would I change the number of stars I gave. Colonial Van Lines lost hundreds of dollars of worth of clothing and broke several things, so Donna said she felt reasonably sure she could get me $300.

    Original Review: July 17, 2022

I can’t emphasize this enough, if you value your belongings and your time, find a different company. From start to finish my experience with Colonial Van Lines was a nightmare. No one ever return calls or emails. I tried for weeks to make changes to my inventory through three different people and not one ever got back to me. The date of my move was pushed back and when they finally showed up, there was no crew, so we had to wait for another one to show up. When they finally did, which should have been a two hour job lasted almost 6 hours. The buyers for my home were irate because they could not get in to clean.

The driver was extremely unprofessional. He broke wind and bragged about it in front of me, my daughter and my realtor. He simply walked around the house saying he didn’t want to work and wanted to sleep. Once they were done I registered a complaint which was probably a mistake, because when my items were finally brought from Florida to New York, there was a lot of damage and the majority of my clothing was “lost“. For all the damage they did and for literally $700 alone in clothing that was lost , I got $153. They base it on weight. Sure you do have the option of buying additional insurance, however it was going to be an additional $1500 and the driver talked me out of getting it.

When my items finally arrived in New York, the same driver walked into my house and almost broke several items. When I asked him to be careful, he said I was lucky I even got my stuff because of my complaint. The crew unloading the vehicle was pretty good. They unloaded in slightly less than two hours. And then the driver needed me to sign off on the delivery. He got up right in my face and burped. I was in shock. I of course contacted the supervisor and after his investigation all my aggravation was worth was a refund of $250.

I’m not going to even get into the individual items that were damaged. I understand that when you move with a company, you have to expect a certain amount of damage. What was done literally seem to be intentional. As I stated before, the thing that bothered me the most was the loss of my clothing. It was in a giant wardrobe box. It was not left at the house in Florida as I did two different walk-throughs. And it certainly did not arrive in New York , so either it was delivered to someone else or the driver stole it. I guess we’ll never know.

I thought I was doing the right thing going with Colonial Van Lines, but I was so wrong. I will leave you with this, if there are red flags before you even start your move, put a stop to it right then and there and get a refund. It should not be this difficult and the unprofessional nature from both the driver and the people in the call center really should have tipped me off.

Colonial did a really nice job of being competitive on pricing. They were good with the schedule. They locked down a date that worked for me, and a timeline to get from the West Coast to the East Coast that was very efficient and good. We had a two-day packing approach where they came in the first day and packed up all my kitchen and then disassembled all my furniture. That took about eight hours. The second day, they loaded up the van and that took about six hours. They set my expectations about how long it would take and they met them.

Not only did they do a good job packing, but when we got to Florida, they got it all unpacked and set up in a day. We've yet to find anything that was broken. Everything was taken care of and well-packed. I’m happy with the whole experience. The only part that was not perfect was it took them a little bit of time to let us know exactly when our furniture would arrive here in Florida. They gave us a window of about two weeks, and then gradually tightened it down. But since we had to fly from California to Florida, having it earlier would have been a little easier. But that was a minor thing.

The quote was reasonable. It was at 9,000 but it got reduced because we didn't use a lot of the boxes that I paid for prior to. I'd consider Colonial again if I was going to do another big move. My only complaint would be there wasn't a lot of communication from the office people prior to the move. We were waiting and trying to get an answer. It was a little bit difficult but once we got the process rolling, it was good.

Every move is different but both moves I had with Colonial were decent and they made both experiences positive. With my first move, the actual movers that were subcontracted were not as awesome but this experience was completely different from that. Ann was the gal that I talked to to set up everything and she was amazing. She went above and beyond. I had planned to use a different company months before and they came out with a crazy quote that was $30,000 so, Ann scraped together a quote at the last minute and then, we spent multiple phone calls trying to get the inventory list right and she did a great job. Colonial subcontracted United Movers and Brian and Allie were the couple that drove to Texas to get my stuff. I had a card and they were in touch on the way. It was excellent.

The driver was great. The reps all kept in touch and we knew when they were coming. It was a quick delivery but there were some issues with the quote. It went up even though we took some items off. It was based on weight but the only issue we had was that they said it would require a shuttle. So, a smaller truck picked it up but it was never shuttled to another truck. The same truck dropped off. So, we weren't quite sure why there was a shuttle fee. But overall, Colonial did a great job. The reps were on time and efficient, and they packed well.

We were planning well in advance and Colonial was able to work with us several months in advance. Not every company is able to do that. Some of them would say it was too early and it would take a while before they could give us those figures or the prep. So, we were appreciative of working with a company that could get to it as it was. But it was a little frustrating that we were given three days and it wasn't until the day before the move when they said that we would be moving. The 28th was when we moved in but I was sure it would be the 30th and I would have the time to finish things that I wasn't ready for. So, my last days were a little bit rushed. But that was not anybody's dissatisfaction. And the reps delivered the very next day. We were expecting that it would be what they said or the eight business days.

The two young men were wonderful. They said they would drive three hours the end of that day and they would drive three hours the next day and would have it all at our house. We said that we couldn’t be there yet but we could arrange for somebody. We were worried but we were able to make the arrangements. We were very happy that it was all here but we weren't expecting it to be quite that well organized. So, that was pleasant.

The Colonial Van Lines rep did a good job. He was responsive. They left this huge window of time of when they come. There was a lot of confusion with Colonial because they outsourced to a local company and they were talking about an 18-wheeler and will it fit where we were moving to. And the people that they hired didn't have an 18-wheeler. They had a box truck. So, none of that mattered. I had to explain that to them. I said, "Look, just go to the website. You'll see for yourself. They don't have an 18-wheeler." But the guys that they hired were good guys. Everything was fine.

I still can't find a little foot for one of my kitchen tables. But it was easy to replace. And the stuff that they packed, when they pack for you, I should have known this, but they don't unpack it. All they did was box them up. That's all I paid for. They pack your TV, then your TV entertainment center. They just deliver it and you get to unpack it when they're all together again. If they're gonna box stuff up for you, they're gonna do a real good job of boxing it up. But they may not unbox it unless you pay for that, if you ask for that.

Colonial seemed to be what I was looking for. They were a Florida-based company so I chose them. My rep was Tony and he did a nice job. He convinced me that I was doing the right thing and he made me feel comfortable. The one thing I asked specifically was if Colonial had their own trucks and their own crew or if they farmed it out. I'm real familiar with military moves because of my children and I know how that works. I didn't want that. I was assured that was not the case and that they had their own crew and trucks. That was not true. We were in Florida and the home we were moving from was in Kentucky. I went over with Tony everything in every room that I thought I was going to move. He gave me an estimate and we went with that. I gave him a sizable downpayment.

After we got back to Kentucky, I called him and said I needed to adjust it. There were some things I told him I was going to move that we decided not to move like a riding lawnmower and a generator. I wanted to take those all off and add a few other things. He had someone call me back. They readjusted my estimate of the poundage and I had to pay an additional amount of money at that time because it was going to be a little more. He thought it was 12,000 pounds then it ended up being 14,000. There lies the first problem. I never had a person physically come and look at anything.

He asked me, "How far is it to your door?" and I told him it was within 75 feet. He said they were gonna put the tractor trailer in the front of the property. I said there was a small ditch. Everybody goes through it but it's not a big deal. He said they were going to put a ramp over it. All these conversations were on the telephone. When it came time for them to come, they came but it was on a small truck. You're not gonna move 14,000 pounds in this. It was like a Penske rental truck and not a big moving van. At that point, I asked what we were going to do. They said they were gonna load the truck. For the rest of the stuff, they were going to have another truck later that day. But that did not happen. They said they'll have one in the morning.

They loaded that truck. They took the rest of the stuff and put it in the garage. I said, "I have to be out of the house at noon tomorrow, as per our contract, which you knew at the beginning because the other people are coming in." In the morning at 10:00, another truck comes up and it was a little rental. The guy said, "We're gonna leave with both trucks today. We can be there tomorrow at noon. Can you be there?" I said yes if we're gonna get down here and get our furniture and get in the house. They leave it at 1:00 first, and we leave Kentucky. We drive like the bat out of hell and get to Florida and nothing. We couldn't get in touch with them on Sunday.

I had a moving coordinator and I couldn't get in touch with her. When she did call me, she would say, "I have to get in touch with dispatch because they do everything." She really was not any help to me. On Monday, a big truck shows up. As they were unloading the big truck, I asked where the smaller truck was and they were not sure. Three days or five days later, I found out that the smaller truck was still in Elizabethtown and they unloaded it and set it in some warehouse. They have gone and rented the truck, came to our house, loaded the truck, gone someplace and unloaded it and taking the truck back. Our washer and dryer, TVs, and big stuff are sitting somewhere and who knows when they're gonna get them.

After calling Colonial 14 times a day and getting Jonathan, who was supposed to be the dispatcher, he finally gave us the number of somebody else. I call this man and he was wonderful. He works in finance and has been with them for 20 years. He has no idea about any trucks. We were just given a random number. We told the man that when they unloaded the big truck, they wanted my husband to pay and we refused because we have a contract that said we would pay the balance upon complete delivery. I felt sorry for the two little guys. It was not their fault. They were just loading and unloading the truck.

As they were unloading the big truck, I was talking to Jonathan at Colonial and he was telling me that the reason that that little truck wasn't coming was because Salvador, who is one of the guys who loads and unloads the truck, doesn't have a driver's license. Therefore, he couldn't drive the truck. What the man didn't know was I have my phone on speaker and I'm letting Salvador listen to this. He said, "I went and rented that truck in Elizabethtown. How could I rent that truck if I didn't have a driver's license?" He shows me his driver's license. Colonial was lying about him. Salvador was a good guy who was doing the best he could and was working his butt off for however much money. He had to deal with all the people.

It was not fair. Anytime I call, the one person I could get was my truck driver. He always answered and he always told me where he was. We wait and we wait. I've already listed all the contents on the truck. I'm pissed because I need all my stuff. I have already contacted USAA Insurance at that point about what to. It was just big pieces of furniture but it was the parts of bedroom. I didn't have all the stuff that went with it.

I kept talking to Colonial and eventually, we filed a complaint. I was very disappointed and I felt betrayed. I will never recommend Colonial. On the other hand, I cared about my truck drivers. These guys worked very hard. They packed things beautifully and we didn't have anything broken. We did go rent a U-haul and my son-in-law and my grandson drove it down here. We sent on the marble pieces, all our mirrors, and all of our nice paintings. We sent everything that we thought could be messed up. We knew how long it was going to take and we knew how many boxes we had exactly. In the end, I never saw any truck that said Colonial on it. It was always a Penske or a U-haul. It was a stressful thing.

I had the pickup on the 11th of May and they moved us in on the 23rd of May. It went fairly smoothly but the price ended up being about double what was originally quoted due to us having a lot more boxes than we had thought. That was a little disappointing. I accepted that we had a lot more than we had originally thought we would. Other than that, the delivery was good and the guys were hardworking. There was some breakage but that could be probably blamed on our packaging. We did our own packing because they had a lot of stuff stacked into a somewhat smaller truck than we were expecting.

When delivered, items were missing that just met the insurance deductible of $1,300, so they basically had a license to steal from me. The only time the company was prompt was when I owed them money. I called customer service five times during the pickup window and never received a call back, but their billing company called to collect payment. I do not recommend this company.

Then when I got my final quote, it was still within my budget for moving.

Also, communication was great. They contacted me along the way. They told me when the movers were coming. They sent me several quotes about my weight and everything was adjusted. On 4/26/22, the quality control department of Colonial Van Lines called, and the estimate was revised to 6419 lbs. at a new price of $6377.43. I had a deadline to move on 4/30 so there was nothing I could do other than accept. On 4/30/22, A third party carrier (BCM Relocation LLC) turned up and, on completion of loading, gave me a new weight of 8000lbs at a new price of $8103.33

CONTRACTUAL LAPSES. Colonial Van said they owned the trucks and promised via e-mail that my goods would not be moved from one truck to another however, they used a third-party carrier BCM Relocation to pick up the goods and subsequently BCM delivered the goods in different rented Penske Truck. Colonial contracted the payment terms with me as 50% advance deposit and 50% payable on delivery. Instead, BCM virtually blackmailed me that I had to pay 50% of the remaining balance after my goods were picked up and loaded in the truck and when the goods arrived in Florida they insisted on the balance payment before unloading,

CUSTOMER SERVICE. I informed Colonial before the move about a precious artwork that was 8ft in length and 5 ft in width. They confirmed via e-mail on that it was not a problem and that it was already noted on the record. However, BCM taped the precious piece of Valuable artwork to the outside back of the moving truck after it was closed and exposed to all the elements.

I was supposed to get a 24-hour notice of impending delivery in Florida; instead, I got a call from BCM Relocation on the morning of 5/9/22 saying my furniture and other items would be there in a few hours. o End table broken

o One box containing liqueurs and wine – Missing

Considering that when Colonial was receiving payments, it had be by credit card and paid instantly, the claim response time is egregiously long. CUSTOMER CARE. He was constantly texting me. He also responded to all my emails and my phone calls. Then they took me over to an account manager who kept leaving me messages and checking in on me. The company that they sent over were nice guys. They blew our mind with how fast they got here.

The only thing that caught me by surprise was that it was a different company than Colonial Van Lines. When they showed up they had two different trucks, which I thought was weird. It was a furniture truck that they rented and a U-Haul. But other than the aesthetics of that, everything else went fine. Everything was exactly as promised. That was a big deal to me.

Colonial's subcontractor was a little rushed. He tried to do all the packing and loading in one day. He was early on his estimated date of delivery because he wanted to get done with things and the folks that were receiving were rather surprised by that. He didn't bring enough help to pack was the big thing. We made sure he had more folks at the delivery end to unload. But they dropped one shelving unit and broke it in half. The communication was alright other than what Colonial's folks in the office said and what he said weren't the same.

Colonial Van Lines was the most competitive and could get us what we wanted for less than other people could. We got most of our stuff delivered from Chicago to San Francisco, but we lost two items along the way. Since they were working with a contractor to deliver items and move everything for us, it was confusing figuring out who was responsible for what, in terms of communication and payment.

The staff was friendly at Colonial compared to the contractor that they hired. However, I didn't quite understand their credit card policy. Our credit card company allows us to create virtual credit cards which are still linked to our real account. We could make a credit card that is used for a one-time payment so we're not overcharged for the services that they quoted us. But they weren't willing to take the one-time use credit card, which doesn't make sense to me. Why would I need to be charged more than once as we agreed upon a set price? The contractor that they used ended up splitting the payment. We paid the first half with Colonial and the second half of the amount with Cal Van Lines, the contractor. Cal Van Lines wanted us to fill out our credit card information on a PDF, which was a little unprofessional. What if someone hacks the company and all of our credit card information is suddenly available?

Colonial was the quickest to respond to our initial request. They came back and helped schedule the time. They were very upfront about the costs. They were helpful and walked us through exactly what we were looking for. What could have been improved was the coordination from the dispatch team. I got a couple of calls a couple different times from two or three different people that knew what was going on, but needed to talk to somebody else. They were always in the ballpark. More information is better than none at all but still didn't quite know who was coordinating anyone. But the guys showed up when they told us they were going to show up. They did a great job packing up and dropping off our belongings to the new place. They were delicate with our belongings too.

The cost was cheaper than we thought it was. When we budgeted from a weight perspective, it was a little less than when they put it on the scale. The quoting process that the team did was accurate enough that we didn't have a nasty surprise. It actually was a pleasant surprise. It's always the better one to get. If we ever plan on moving again, we would happily use Colonial.

We liked that Colonial Van Lines was national and they and seemed more reliable. However, there were some complications in getting it set up. Initially, we had a window of the 17th to the 19th. We needed to be out of our place by the 20th and we were told that it was going to delay until at least the 20th. Then there were a few days where it seemed to go back and forth. They were able to pick us up before we needed to be moved out but that was a surprising part of the process. Also, Colonial was one of the more expensive ones that we looked at. Ours ended up being right at the minimum in terms of the amount of stuff we had. That was not as cost-effective as if we had gone with some others. But the quotes that we got appeared to be very reliable. It ended up what we were told we'd be charged and what we were charged in the end corresponded as well.

It seemed there were supposed to have been more than one person originally who had been assigned for the unloading at the end of the trip, and it ended up being just one person. On the loading side, there were three or four. The person who unloaded did well and it was done in as reasonable amount of time as could be expected but they needed a little bit of help at some point. That was disappointing that we had to jump in and help. It wasn't their fault but we paid for the service so that we wouldn't have to do as much of that and ended up having to do it for some of the very large, heavy things.

Slow truck to Seattle - Out contract with Colonial states that our furnishings would arrive at our new home in Seattle no later than May 11th, after being picked up in Florida on April 22nd. It is now May 22nd, and we have just been told, AGAIN, that delivery will be delayed, and might arrive by May 27th. That is five weeks! It takes four days for a moving van to legally drive across America, obeying all the safety hours and rules. So why is it taking five weeks to get here?

It is distressing to be told five times that our household goods will arrive on a certain, but delayed date, only to repeatedly be later told that there is yet another delay, for yet another reason. We have had to adjust ad reschedule numerous times because Colonial told us a delivery date that turned out to be wrong. I have no idea how much time we have had to waste because of Colonial's scheduling errors. Meanwhile it is costing us thousands because a Colonial contracted hauler has equipment failures and other reasons for weeks of delay.

It was my mistake to believe Colonial salespeople. They appear to in effect be just another broker, at least for our moving. I have seen no Colonial truck and am informed that the company with all the equipment problems is not a Colonial van. I strongly recommend finding a more reliable mover.

    Original Review: May 22, 2022

Colonial Van Lines must be one of the worse moving companies in the business. On March 30th 2022, I moved from California to Florida. The Colonial salesperson, Colin ** was not friendly. He was impatient and annoyed if I asked any questions. I gave him an accurate list of all the items to be moved, then he promised "one price all-inclusive" for $9500. Read on for the big surprise! When the truck arrived, the driver thought it was a local move instead of an out of state move. He only brought two packers (the company promised four). He asked me to lie about it. He said: “If Colonial calls tell them we have four packers”… What? This guy was skimming. And they didn't have enough boxes. I had to go to Home Depot to buy more of my own boxes! It took them over one hour to call the office and get the right details about the job. Given only two men, the packing lasted 12 hours for a two-bedroom house.

The packing was sloppy and frail. They ended up breaking expensive art, furniture, broken glass tops, dented the refrigerator and lost several items as well. Over $10,000 in damages. AFTER the loading was done at 9:00 PM, the supervisor/driver (Chris) showed me a paper I could not read with all the items they loaded on the truck. The print was very small. His writing was illegible. I signed it. I had no choice. Turns out later, he logged 117 items that were not on my original list. It’s a joke right? He also logged 1100 pounds more for the load. I only added an electric piano to the list which was about 150lb. Later the finance department called me with an additional charge of $4200. Totally bogus. I had to pay it, or they would not unload the items.

It’s extortion. Additionally, some of the items were supposed to go in storage and did not. I was charged extra for a "two drops" job. They ended up unloading those items that were supposed to go in storage at my house and later I had to pay an additional $750 to a different company to move those items to my warehouse. In final, false estimate, broken, promises, broken items, and extra illegitimate charges. I called customer service and this guy Matt would not take any responsibility other than sending me a claim form. “Maybe” they will pay $.60 on the dollar for the broken items. I doubt it. He would not reimburse the illegitimate $4200 charge or pay to move the items that were dropped at my house instead of my warehouse. This is going to court. I recommend you call a different company.

Colonial's price was good compared to another quote that I received. I told them I would really appreciate it if the pick-up was on a Saturday because I work during the week. They said they would call me midweek and let me know what day it was going to be. As we got toward the middle of the week, I hadn't heard anything so I called and they told me it was going to be on Friday. I took off work and I went to the storage facility on Friday and they didn't show up. I called them and they said the truck broke down and they were going to be late. I asked how late and they said they would let me know.

The whole day went by and I didn't hear anything. They called me later in the day on Friday and told me that it was gonna be like Tuesday. I found out later that they had rerouted the load because they wanted to pick up another load from someone else. They didn't get to my storage place until Tuesday or Wednesday of the following week. I was not at all happy with how the pick-up was scheduled and carried out. That aside, the rest of the process went really well. The couple who showed up here to make the delivery were very professional. The guy really knew how to pack a truck most efficiently and they worked well together as a team. On the whole, I was disappointed on the front end and I was satisfied on the back end.

It went fairly well with Colonial Van Lines. They called me and talked to me. That was a major difference. However, I was disappointed at the communication on the front end. I have glass-door cabinets and when I was talking to the sales rep, he said, “You just empty out those cabinets, and we will blanket-wrap the empty furniture." I had asked him specifically about that. Then I made a full list of all of my stuff and he gave me a quote. But when the moving truck showed up, they said, “This stuff's not packed. These glass doors require additional crating so, it's gonna be an extra $1,400.” He was saying he was not even gonna start loading until I make that decision. I wish that had been a little better communicated to me.

I had a couple of dishes that were broken but it was a good experience overall. Everything went very smoothly. They picked up and delivered on time. Colonial Van Lines is a good company. They have good contractors. The guys that moved my parts were professional and courteous. But make sure that you fully understand what is the expected cost upfront so you don't have any surprises.

Colonial had lower initial appraisal and bid. If the estimate was low, their overrun pricing was lower than others in terms of cost per pound, cost per box, etcetera. The move was from Nashville to Jacksonville. I paid for packing, loading and unloading with furniture disassembly and reassembly. My company gave me about two weeks before I had to be from Nashville to my new job. I ended up driving down to the new job in Jacksonville with my pickup truck then I had to fly back to Nashville to meet the movers.

The pickup went great. The crew was there a little early and it took them a little bit longer because I had a significant amount more than the initial estimate. I anticipated this because even though I was in a one-bedroom, I downsized from a larger unit before when I moved to Nashville. The drop-off went well even though they were a little late. That was not their fault as there was horrible traffic and some severe weather that day. They got the things unloaded promptly once they got there and they got the furniture placed in the right rooms and assembled. On the whole, everything was great. Colonial was the most positive part of the moving process.

The only thing about this experience was there were a lot of delays. Our stuff was put in their storage facility in California for a couple of weeks. The driver mentioned it was going to be four and a half days to get them there because they were waiting on other movers. They missed their estimated time by over a week. But along the way, the representative kept us updated so that was good. It was just unfortunate because we were sleeping on an air mattress waiting for all of our stuff. And the other thing that I had a hard time with was, I packed up everything in our apartment, except for the kitchen, and I could not control the amount of materials that they used to pack up the kitchen. They were very thorough, but I would have preferred a couple of broken dishes than to pay $750 in packing fees. So, I wish that had been more of a communication rather than, “Thank you so much helping me pack my kitchen, but didn't wanna pay that amount.”

One pain point, as someone who works full-time and works from home, I was told I would get 48 hours notice when they were dropping off the goods, and I got a call about a half an hour before and had to race home. They were very willing to go over everything with me step-by-step, as far as pricing, and how they were going to handle the move. So, the personalization that they gave to the move for us was fantastic. I had other companies that I got quotes from that were very pushy, almost to the point of bullying. But Colonial Van Lines didn’t do that. The coordinator was very good and the expectations that I had after speaking to that person went above what I expected. The experience with the account manager was very nice. They worked with us on when we needed to pay this, when we needed to pay that and how we needed to pay it. Down to the penny, what they said it was gonna be is what it was. They didn’t go up on the price.

The driver and the loaders that Colonial had were good. They were on the spot with it, being very careful with my furniture. I was expecting to have damages because of the amount of furniture I had and the size of it. They wrapped it and made sure it was padded so good, because I've got a lot of glass. Nothing was broken and nothing got damaged or scratched. I would recommend anybody in need of a moving company to go to Colonial.

I liked how quick Colonial could get the move done and their process of quotation. I had to move relatively quickly. I had a lot that was going on and I just needed somebody to handle the process for me. Colonial was able to do that. Two young men showed up early and they had a box truck. They were very professional. They were very careful with my things and they packed them very well. I moved from Texas to Oklahoma. They showed up the next day at my new house, unpacked everything, and put everything back. Nothing was broken and things went very smoothly. If I ever have to move again, I would use Colonial for sure.

They picked up my stuff on Sunday and delivered it on Thursday. The only thing that didn't go perfectly as planned was the delivery time. We talked on the phone to set up the move and then they sent me the information to fill out. I sent it back and they continually followed up with me to make sure everything was in line. They let me know a couple of days in advance when they were going to show up and they called me on the day of and said what time window. They showed up a little bit earlier than I expected, which was really nice. They were helpful as far as some of the things that I had neglected to mention or I forgot to tell them. I thought everything was packed by my standards, but apparently, it wasn't and they were very kind and very good about it. They told me how much it was going to cost if they wrap all the stuff and they brought up extra material. They had it all with them and it was very convenient.

My only complaint, if any, was that it was more expensive than I expected it to be. It ended up being a very expensive move because of how much crap I had. But they were very communicative about that and they offered to help me figure out how much weight I should really be claiming. Also, they were pretty good about following up with me and asking how my experience was. They called me back several times before I even finished unpacking to find out how the experience went.

I was in the process of getting bids from different companies when I was in Myrtle Beach and Colonial happened to pop up on my computer. I checked on them and did a little bit of background check. I ended up calling them. Their rep was very cordial. I've moved enough times that I can tell when somebody is trying to pull some wool. He was surprised that I was able to come back to him with some things about the trucking industry. He backed up and regrouped when told him I drove a tractor-trailer for seven years across the country. He knew that he couldn't bamboozle me.

The rep was trying to do me a favor and the driver was wanting to come in early. He told dispatch not to let them come in. They dropped the ball and never called me to tell me that they wouldn't be there. I stayed up most of the night to try to finish getting everything packed and ready to go. I ended up sitting there waiting for a whole day. When I called and talked to him, he owned up to it right away. He said, “That's totally on me. I did that. I didn't think you would be ready.” But I am always ready when the truck shows up.

The two guys that came out were very nice. One was very accommodating and he helped me out with a few things, which I told him ahead of time. One was with my TV. It was a big TV and it was too big for me and too heavy for me to handle by myself. I have the box here and I needed somebody to help me pick up the TV and put it in the box. Once he saw that I needed the help, he that was not my job. He and his helper put it in the box and they padded it very well. I had some glass and he was really afraid to take it because he was afraid it was going to get broken. I said, “If you wrap it in your pads, even if you have to wrap it twice, it should be fine. Unless you set something on top of it or it just literally falls without the padding, then we’re gonna have an issue.” He padded it.

They were there at 8 o'clock in the morning and were done by 2 o'clock. I had everything boxed up and ready to go for the most part. I had enough phone numbers for the different people. They made sure that I had enough people that I could contact. To make sure that even if I couldn't get ahold of one I wanted, I had somebody else that I could contact then they could do their thing inside the building with whoever it was that I needed to talk to. I had the driver’s cell number as well.

When he loaded up, he said, “I live in Virginia, would you mind if I took an extra day and went home to see my kids for at least 24 hours?” That was fine with me. My husband and I drove cross country so I understand. I was not here when he showed up. But he called me and he said, “I'm here. Can I start unloading?” I said I would be there in about five minutes. When I got here, they already started unloading. I was running back and forth. I assumed I had everything. It took them five hours to load and two hours to unload.

On the whole, there were a few little issues, but nothing that I was going to complain about. The one thing that threw me for a curve was there were three of them unloading the truck and they had me busy running back and forth between the truck and here in the house. One of them hit one of the corners on the doorways and knocked the drywall off the corner about the size of a quarter and they didn't tell me about it. They were gone by the time I saw it. It wasn't the end of the earth and it wasn’t life-threatening. But it put a sour taste in my mouth. It would have been better if they had just said, “We had an accident. This is what we just did. We want you to know about it.”

Do not use this company for any of your moving needs. I have a move from Fresno, CA to Dallas, TX in March 2022. My items were in short term storage and to be delivered in TX a few weeks after pick up. My account manager Tamia stated that my items would be delivered on 3/26. That day came and no call no show from driver. That night they called and said they would be delivered on 3/27. They charged me $775 bucks for a shuttle fee to deliver my items even though there was PLENTY of room for a semi truck to be able to deliver my items and per my contract they would be able to deliver them if there was room.

On 3/27 when my items were delivered several items were broken, every box was smashed and the driver stated there were several boxes left in Austin that he didn't know what to do with because they were leaking. Here I am a week later and no idea how many boxes I am truly missing. I know it is at least two. No response and no info from the account manager and the company doesn't know what's going on. Save yourself the trouble and DO NOT USE THIS UNETHICAL COMPANY!

The rep was very clear and a very good person. Good communication. Pickup was made on Wednesday, 16th of March, and delivery happened on 26th Saturday. The movers were good, hardworking people. The only thing that was a bit surprising was Colonial hired a third party company to do the moving. I wish I was told about that, that it’s not the Colonial’s own employed people who will come to pack and drive and deliver them. That is one thing that many people will not like. And if you were doing that, you should tell your customer that, “It will not be the Colonial’s own crew. We’ll be outsourcing this project and another company will show up.” But the people who came there were good people. They did their best to work.

We still do not have a couple of items accounted for. We opened all the boxes. Part of a kitchen rack or case has missing parts that prevents us from using it because it will leak water. Also, one cover for a hanging chair was torn apart. So, I reached out to Colonial. But I haven't heard back from them for several days. Those are the two things I'm hoping Colonial will address to refund.

We made an update during the process of ramping up to the packing days. And the estimate went up by a few hundred dollars. That was not surprising because we added and deleted some items, and the addition was more than deletion. But the final movers claimed that because of needing additional packaging material for the corner curio which has some glass windows, they billed some $350 more than the quote, which was a surprise to me, that everybody will understand that this is a showpiece type furniture and it will have glass. So I thought the initial estimate would include additional packaging needed for protection of glass.

That remained an unresolved topic. I told Colonial that they have it coded and after moving, before the day of delivery, they asked for $350 more, and without that, they will not deliver it. I had to pay for it but the Colonial team said that they would address it once they had more clarification about what was the additional packing, if all that increased the estimare. All of my items remained within the estimated weight for shipping, because the only term and condition was if the weight goes beyond the 5,800 pounds, then there will be a specific pound rate increase, which I understand. It didn't go beyond that. The three things remain unresolved - the broken item and the missing parts, and the unexpected increase in the estimate. If they're resolved with either good proof or to refund, then Colonial becomes a strong recommendation.

Colonial won't last. Once they have your life packed on a truck you are at the mercy of a company that does not care or have the capacity to to do the job right. Lies at every stage of the move. Poorly packed, mis-labeled boxes, trailers and trucks that are falling apart, short staffed, unapologetic support, I could write a book on everything that went wrong. By far the most mishandled and stressful move I have ever had.

Showed up a day late to start, took one double shift day longer to pack than promised, trailer leaked and I was asked to fix it, delays in delivery due to failing equipment, Inventory is a joke, once delivered good luck finding anything you are looking for in the vaguely / mislabeled boxes. Cross your fingers that the poorly packed boxes don't contain broken, beat up items. Had to leave stuff behind because of poor space estimate. Stuff we said should be left behind was packed and stuff we needed to move had to be abandoned. Truly, nothing went right.

    Original Review: March 26, 2022

In February I begin to research companies. I requested a quote and got four responses Colonial Vân Lines was one of my quotes. The sales guy (Jonathan) was friendly and professional. He gave me some advice about staying away from a Brokerage company because they were a rip off. They would take my money and leave hanging as they try to find a company to move me. I didn't want that experience, so I listened to him. As I continued to look at quotes from other companies, Jonathan continued to call. It was all a scam to get me to go with his company. They decided they would match any offer I received, so I believe this was a reputable company I was dealing with at the beginning. So, after thinking about it, I decided I would go Colonial because Jonathan assured me, they were not a brokerage company and the movers would be on time and I would get my items shipped on time to me.

On the day They arrived everything changed. It was not a moving company from Colonial Van Lines, but another company they contract out to. I called the company, my manager was not available and enquired on who this company was and was told "oh we don't have trucks available to move you, so we contract out your move to this company." Well, I knew I was in trouble because they did not honor the initial inventory agreement. I was stuck because I had to move on February 3 because I have to drive from California to Memphis, TN. by February 7. Which I had arranged to get to my new apartment before the movers. I was already packed. They continued to deny things I could take. I end up throwing out a lot of my things.

One of their concerns was they had to be 75 feet from apartment. Their truck had to be able to park 75 feet away from my apartment, and if they could not park, I would have to pay for a shuttle service. Well, I assured them they could park right next to my building. They end up parking in the street on the right side and cars just went around them. After they continue to pack me, one of the movers said, "Since you are throwing items out we can take more boxes," and they did. They left my apartment on February 3. They were suppose to leave with my items on the 7th of February heading to Memphis. I realized they were operating like a brokerage company. The company that picked my up said they did not work for Colonial Van Lines they work for Cal Lines.

I got to my apartment on the 8th of February. I assumed the movers were right behind me, I got a call from Manager, Tamia, she said, "I need your new address," and I gave it to her nd then she informed me the movers were not going to be there on the 11th, The move had been moved back and she would call me. Well, I was forced to buy items that set on their truck. I spent on $500 dollars buying things I needed. The next time she called, she said eta date for your items. I was upset. I told her I needed my things. I told her I was buying things that were sitting on that truck. She apologized and said, "I will call you when I have a date and time." I told her to have supervisor call me because they should compensate me for the daily. She called back and said they would compensate at a rate of 30 dollars. I was in disbelief. I disagreed with her. She said she had to get approved.

The next call I received I was told the movers would be there on Monday March 7th. I was angry, frustrated and asked about my compensation. She said 330 dollars would be taken from my bill. I agreed. This company Cal Lines started calling me. I spoke to a young lady name Yonie. She said, "Can we come Sunday," I told her I was out of town. She said okay, Monday will be the date. Then she said they needed me to pay before the movers arrived and I refused. This is when they began to threaten to not deliver my furniture. I told them I wanted to physically see my items. They got irate. Their manager called and said if I did not pay today, which was Saturday the 5th, I would pay in cash. My agreement with Colonial Van Lines was I could pay with a credit card. They said no credit card, I had to pay with cash. I refused.

Then Colonial called and said I needed to pay a shuttle fee. I was flabbergasted. I told them my apartment complex was wide enough for an 18 wheeler and called my manager at Colonial. She said I had to pay in cash. I question why they were honoring their agreement with me. I had a first floor apartment near the exit. I asked them if they had talked to anyone at the Apartment Managers office to see what the measure were for large side vehicles they said no.

Monday arrived and they came in a Uhaul. I knew large said Vehicles had been here. I had seen them. They arrived and demanded I pay. I said no, I was not paying in cash and refused to pay the shuttle fee. I was told I would not get my furniture. They sat outside of my door for 45 minutes and then they drove away. I was adamant, I was not paying in cash. The second company was very rude and so was the driver. A manager from Colonial, Benjamin called and said to pay in cash or not get my furniture. Again, I refused. He then said, "I will give you a compensation because we did have your address for four weeks and we did not mention the shuttle was needed." He said, "Pay them and I will send an email detailing a compensation package." I agreed to pay with a credit card. They begin to unload the truck. I was on the phone with both companies at the same time and back and forth.

I noticed after I paid with my credit card pink tape on all my boxes. I had packed everything myself. The driver said please sign stating I had received my items. I didn't have an opportunity to count. I signed then asked for a copy. He refused. I asked why not. He said they don't give them out. Colonial would send a receipt. I took pictures of each page. I knew that was wrong, but I was mentally drained, and the gentlemen were not the friendliest. I wanted them out of my apartment. They did not wear mask even though I gave one a mask and required them to wear mask. They left, that is when I discovered missing boxes, broken items, vacuum cleaner, tv, bowls, antique bowl. The worse experience of my life. They say they are not a brokerage company, but they operate like one. Now when I call, I can't get anyone to return my calls. No email about my compensation.

I loved using Colonial. Everything was awesome. The movers who came to pack me up were incredible. Then when I got here, it was the same thing. The movers were exceptional. However, Colonial told me the more I do, the cheaper it’d be. I packed my entire house by myself and thought it was gonna save me money. But I regret all the work that I put into it because it didn't save me anything.

It was a very good experience with Colonial. They told me exactly what the cost would be and it was only $5 off. They did a very good job of estimating the weight. The senior moving agent was very informative. He kept communicating and wanted me to get with him if the smallest thing went wrong. He was, customer service-wise, all over everything. The other agent, on the other hand, sounded like she was bored and just getting through it, talking fast. She was not a good customer service representative for the company. The interaction was very dry. She wasn't a happy person. But the people that Colonial used to do my loading/unloading were extremely nice and did a very good job. The only thing I had was one tiny broken bowl but that was fine. It was probably my packing more so than the moving.

It was articles for my mother's estate, so it didn’t have to be a rush. I’ve had a really good experience. Colonial Van Lines made it easy, and I can’t complain at all. There were no changes from the quote to the final cost. They were very good about reviewing it and keeping me abreast on what the prices would be. I would definitely tell people to check and get a quote from Colonial, at least, if they did not have anybody.

Best estimated cost. Too many contacts. Lack of management of delivery. Pick up went very smoothly. Had to pay for an extra day delay in loading ($500). Delivery was the worst experience we have had in many moves as a career military family. Again we paid for two extra days for delivery ($1,000) date and storage which could have been eliminated if the driver had changed his delivery route. Our antique dining room table legs and pedestal were broken and glued without informing us. The delivery driver stated he did not do it. Most of the Colonial reps were responsive and professional. Caution: be sure you know about the "window" for delivery dates and that the drivers are contracted and have a significant responsibility for your items.

But I expected that. The movers were fantastic. During pick-up, they were pretty quick and expedient getting everything moved. When they did the drop off, they had some issues getting down my driveway with their truck, but they didn't give up on it. So they finally got it down here.

Let me start by saying I've done several long distance moves: HI to CT, CT to FL, FL to PA, and this PA to FL. This experience has been the WORST moving experience I've ever had. Here is what I was "sold" vs what I received:

    #1 Sold - they weren't a brokerage/used their own people.

#1 Received - one of their "agent" companies did the actual move using Ryder trucks. Further, the agent company (BCM Relocation) hired day labors to assist their driver with the move. When goods were delivered, one of the day labors was stopped from working due to the police needing to speak with him regarding a hit & run accident.

#2 Sold - two payments made by credit card (deposit and drop off).

#2 Received - BCM Relocation demanded $1000 upon pickup and the rest upon delivery. When I fought with BCM Relocation people (who called me a ** on the phone), they told me if I had a problem that I needed to contact Colonial because they were my contract company. After agreeing to receive payment upon delivery, they retaliated by refusing to accept credit card payment and demanded cash/cashier's check.

#3 Sold - acct manager would contact me a few days prior to pickup/delivery for date confirmation.

#3 Received - acct manager called the night before pickup to tell me of pickup and the driver of the vehicle called at 9:30pm to tell me delivery would happen at 10am the next morning.

#4 Sold - weight estimate of 3500 based on inventory.

#4 Received - weight of 4700 and no proof/documentation to justify the additional weight.

#5 Sold - communication throughout the move.

#5 Received - couldn't reach anyone on move team for a week; was assured management would reach out to me, but it never happened.

#6 Sold - all items would be tagged/color coded to ensure no inventory mix-ups.

#6 Received - upon delivery, multiple items were placed in my house which weren't mine.

If all this wasn't enough, I have several destroyed items and now have to attempt to make a claim for reimbursement. Lastly, not to divulge personal information, the driver I had for Colonial/BCM Relocation for delivery had a medical emergency DURING delivery and (IMO) should not be medically cleared to drive ANY motor vehicle. Yet, when delivery was complete and the paramedics were gone, the driver drove himself away in the Ryder truck. Avoid Colonial and BCM Relocation - they will make your long distance move a nightmare.

Colonial Van Lines is the worst moving company I have ever worked with. I moved my mother from NC to Florida in 2021 and from the start this was a miserable experience. From the beginning what I was quoted and what I was charged are COMPLETELY different. Their estimate was around $5700.00 for the move and the final bill was over $11,000! Not only this but when I finally looked at what they delivered at least 50% of the items and furniture were broken beyond belief and some of the more expensive and desired furniture items and carpets never even made it to the final destination. They literally took the most destroyed items and hid them under blankets in the back of the storage unit so I couldn't view them before they left.

We had a very expensive bedroom set and one of the main armoires never made it at all and I know the new homeowners wouldn't have allowed anything to remain in the house. This means the drivers couldn't even get the item into the truck without destroying it beyond belief or they gave it to another client before reaching us. Utterly irresponsible what they did to us. Then once completed the drivers asked be for a cash tip $500 a piece. The nerve of these people.

Once I was able to figure all of this out I filed a claim which they quickly denied for no good reason. This is not just monetary losses, this is everything my mother and deceased father have collected their whole lives and the devastation of this move put my mother into a tailspin which ultimately contributed to her untimely death as well. This moving company is not to be trusted and I highly recommend using ANYONE else regardless of cost. They will tell you they are the cheapest but that is not what you will pay. You will pay much more by the end, on your credit card and by loss of sleep and hair. PLEASE BEWARE!

When the movers came, I had everything boxed by that point in time other than the bed and the furniture. They started with the boxes, got all the boxes out, and then with the furniture, they took everything apart. They took more things apart than I thought they would. I had a table. I didn't realize that it could be taken apart. They took that all apart and wrapped everything up very nicely. I was very impressed with the movers.

I've moved a couple of times with different movers and they were nowhere near as thorough when it came to numbering all my boxes and making sure that all of my items were labeled and numbered so that I knew nothing got lost on the way. Colonial Van Lines was very professional and very diligent in getting me the information I needed, the quotes and everything else. There was a delay in my decision-making of whether I was even gonna do this or not. They persisted but not obnoxiously, which I really appreciated. They didn't make it so uncomfortable. They checked in an appropriate way at an appropriate time. So, I chose Colonial not based solely on price. It was based on the way they presented and handled themselves.

My coordinator, Daniel, was wonderful, very knowledgeable and very thorough. Every promise he made, he fulfilled and exceeded. The movers themselves were great. They came into my home. They packed my stuff for me, which was amazing. They were nice and trustworthy. They did a great job packing. Everything came in packed. The promises they made were right on target as far as dates and times. I had the same crew that came and dropped stuff off. They worked quickly and diligently, and everything got in place. So, it was a great experience.

The only negative feedback I would have was I didn't have a direct contact. I didn't know when my stuff was gonna arrive. I needed to start thinking and planning. I called and they found out the day for me. They said, “Look, it will come, like, Monday.” So, there was that one moment where I was like, “Oh, gosh. Who do I contact?” But then I contacted the people I had, and they found out for me. So, that was pretty wonderful.

By far the worst moving company on the planet. And also one of the worst customer service I've ever received (and I don't say that lightly as I've seen quite a few horrible ones over time). My advice to those out there is, if you know what's good for you please stay far away from using CVL services. If there was a "no star" I would have selected that. Honestly, I don't understand how they are still in business. The only decent side of their business is pre-sales. But it's all a trap. Because once you sign that contract (and please read the contract, there's a lot of fine prints), everything goes down hill from there. Horrible customer service; borderline criminal in their operations; end to end post sales services is horrendous; not on time; bad packaging, horrible delivery service; very poor issue resolution process and the list goes on..

Through their carelessness, they damage a lot of good and show no empathy. You can barely get them to address any issues. Took about 6 months to process a claim.. When they do, they refund pennies... e.g., They damaged goods worth over 5k.. and they refunded a little over a 100 bucks after 6 months.. That's just criminal... Just sharing so others don't fall prey to this company! There are way better options out there...
