I read the reviews and Colonial Van Lines had good ones. They also got a reputation. But when I hired them, one of my armoires got damaged during the move. I filed a claim and the process was easy but I haven’t heard anything yet. Other than that, they brought my stuff and everything was great. They were very professional, too.
Thank you for the review Gustavo! I'll have someone follow up with you on the status of your claim for the damaged armoire.

I was having to sell my mother’s estate, and Colonial Van Lines answered back quickly. The services and expectations set by the moving coordinator was fantastic. It was a multiple redundant fee trying to get a right quote, but I didn’t have a problem with that. The assistance the account manager provided during the move was excellent. He stayed right on top of it. I spent four years in the military and I had to move twice in the four years that I was in, and it was uncomfortable having to get everything packed and getting everything moved. This, however, was the best experience that I have had. They handled everything perfectly. Everything that was moved was over 150 years old and none of it was damaged.
I'll be sure to show your account manager this great review! Thanks Vernon.

I was moving from Woodbridge to San Diego -- my wife passed away, so I decided to move closer to where my daughter lives. I used Colonial Van Lines because it had a good number of stars. Their moving coordinator was very good. I was listed for sale, and he immediately went to that picture and made it very easy. He was very easy to work with, and the services and expectations he set were very accurate. The account manager was very good, too. All around, it was a great experience.
So glad we could make this moving process as simple and stressfree as possible. Be well Stanley, thank you for the review.

I read that Colonial Van Lines was a good, big company and checked the reviews, which led me to choose them. Their driver was great and nice. I had doubts and a lot of questions, but they answered and explained everything. Moreover, the cost was fair.
Very good! Thank you for sharing!

Colonial Van Lines has a good team. I was really impressed. The coordinator was wonderful and awesome. This one was following up and following up. I was really pleased from pick up to delivery. Everything was excellent and I will use Colonial again. I have talked to other people and referred them to Colonial.
Thank you for sharing Yolanda! And thank you for the referrals!

My husband got a job in Delaware. I moved from Arkansas and I’m getting ready to retire from the military. Colonial's customer service was great. It was a two-bedroom townhouse move to a house and they went over the list by room. Everything was good. Other than that the third party payment from the employer was the only challenge. I picked the moving company. My husband’s company was paying for it and they were expecting to get an invoice. However, at the drop-off, the guys would not unload the truck until they got paid and so that wasn’t coordinated well. But the company used a debit card. They charged although that wasn’t how they normally do the process, they’d rather have the invoice.
The account manager was friendly and followed up to make sure that everything was going well with the movers. The movers came in and packed up everything. I never had that before. They helped me out a lot because when I unpacked, it made it a lot easier ‘cause all the boxes were labeled. I figured if I had done that myself, we probably would not be unpacked right now because they organized it really well. They also had plenty of boxes and I would be able to use those in the future. Everything was really good.
Thank you for the review!

We were looking for a moving company and used Colonial before, so we used them again. The coordinator mentioned to us that once they'd come to pick up all the furniture, they would weigh it and come back with a slip to us. But then, the guys came, took everything and left, and they didn’t come back. We didn’t know why that was. When we asked the coordinator, she said that we had to go in the car with them and then get the weight slip, so there was a slight miscommunication there. The only thing we didn't know was how much it weighed, which was something we didn't like. Other than that, everything went well.
Thank you for using our moving services again and for sharing your experience!

We moved from Broken Arrow to Las Vegas. I was given the price of about $3,000 and when I got everything in my house, it was almost $10,000. Once I got out here, I started giving it away, and I gave it away before I moved. We did most of the packing ourselves and Colonial packed the glass thing. The only thing is I’ve got a bad back and two broken arms so I don’t get around very well. The movers were good and the main guy was wonderful. They did what they’re supposed to do. I only had two things that were broken. Overall, I had a good move with Colonial Van Lines.
We're happy everything went so well! Thank you for sharing

I was relocating from New Jersey to Florida. It was somewhere around 1,100 miles. It was good dealing with the coordinator from Endurance. Everything was smooth and accurate. They called me and said that someone was coming to pick up the stuff and they'd guide me through the whole move. They said it would take at least three days because they were only allowed to drive 500 miles a day. But the move was a lot faster than we anticipated. They picked up my stuff on Saturday and then the movers called me and said they were ready to give me my stuff on Sunday night. That was a little bit of an inconvenience. We didn't expect it to be that fast. I was still in New Jersey and I wasn't prepared. Then the moving coordinator said that that he was not working over the weekend but he'd call me first thing Monday and we'd hash this out. The trip was completed by Monday
Colonial was accurate with the pricing and the people who came to move my stuff were excellent. They offered help. They told me not to touch anything and that they'd take care of it. It took them about two hours to load everything up. The people who picked up my stuff were very good. On the other hand, I wasn't there to receive it because it was just so fast. When they dropped everything off, they only had one person working and I had to pay somebody to go over there and stand by with them because I wasn't there. She even had to assist and some things were very heavy. I kept calling Colonial because they needed help and they said they were sending somebody. It took them six hours to unload that truck.
Great review Mr. Ramon! Thank you

I ended up doing a cross country (Southern CA to Ohio) move with this company despite these negative reviews. BIG MISTAKE. It's now 10 days after my stuff was picked up and IT IS STILL IN CA. 10 days and it hasn't moved a mile. You heard that right. My stuff was picked up 10 days ago and it's still sitting in their warehouse. My "rep" just continues to say with an attitude "Ma'am, they can't drive the truck cross country with only your stuff. They have to fill it up." Well then. I guess until there are more suckers who will let these clowns take all their furniture, my stuff won't leave Southern CA. Obviously, don't use this company no matter how much cheaper their quote is than the others.

We originally moved all of our content into a storage unit in Arizona. The company that did that move, All My Sons, was quoting us to move our Arizona to California content from the storage unit to our home in California. But they did such a terrible job on the initial first move to get everything into the storage that we decided we did not wanna go with them. I looked online for interstate removal companies along with their reviews. I found Colonial Van Lines. I also got three different quotes from different companies.
I got a rep from Colonial who was nice and very polite. He was responsive and quick. I was a little bit annoyed because I got the quote then the next day when I said I was interested in booking, the prices had gone up overnight. The rep said they had a price increase. There was no warning at the beginning of that. I got a second quote and booked on that one. The quote was the only piece that I was a little bit disappointed with. But in the end, it was like it was still underquoted even though it cost me another $1,000.
The moving team was great. They were on time and they helped to rewrap some of the items that All My Sons had done a really bad job with. Some of the items would not have been safe to transport for a long distance. The process took a bit longer than the Colonial team expected but when they got it up to California, they were brilliant. They remembered what was in most of the boxes. We told them where something went and they put that and the associated items there.
We’ve moved 30 times and we’ve moved internationally 4 times. Colonial was the best we’ve had. Even at the end when it was time to leave and everything had been taken off the truck, one of the guys named John still asked us if there was anything we wanted them to assemble. They didn’t run off. Usually, as soon as the last box is off the truck, companies run. There were two guys with the moving team and John was really calm. We only kept him for another 20 minutes while we assembled the bed. He helped my husband.
Krista,
Great to hear! We'll share this review with John and his team! Thanks!

Our move with Colonial was our best move ever. They got the pickup done. I packed everything and they were in and out. Everything was wrapped really well like all my furniture. They were very quick and efficient. Also, the time to get down here was shorter than the time they said. And when they unpacked my stuff, they were really good and nothing was damaged.
We dealt with Christopher who was the account guy and Donna who was the coordinator. Donna kept me completely informed the entire time. She called and told me they were gonna be calling me to set things up on a certain day. It was just really great communication and she was super friendly. I sent Colonial an email saying how great things went and that we appreciated everything. It was a good experience overall.
Awesome review Greg! Chris and Donna will be happy to hear such positive feedback! Thanks!

Colonial seemed to be the best priced and they were willing to work with me in my special situation. I moved to a house in New Jersey but haven’t sold my old house. I wanted to leave furniture there for staging as long as possible and I was accommodated on that. The reason for my move was I found a house that was more than spectacular and I decided to go for it. It's an old property built in 1750 and it's on a property with a lake. It's everything I need.
Interaction with Colonial was fairly open and to the point. It was much more detailed than I was used to but I was willing to do it. It was a good experience. I was looking forward to the pickup and delivery. I was very much prepared. The only problem I had was they informed me that they wouldn’t go up to my attic, which was up these temporary stairs. It was pretty shaky. I had to bring all the stuff down from the attic and that took me a while, but it could be done. I dealt directly with the driver and he seemed to manage everyone. He was fairly knowledgeable and experienced. It worked well. Everyone else seemed to go to work and got to do what was done. I've moved several times and there was always an issue. There were lot of things to do but this was as carefree as possible. I was very pleased.
Thanks for everything David! And congrats on the BEAUTIFUL new house!

** Update - I am raising my review to 5 stars due to Donna in resolutions. She was able to negotiate an acceptable compensation amount for our troubles.
Original Review: March 4, 2020
Like many reviewers before me, I was duped by the adroit pitch of the sales representative. She walked me through what would surely be a professional and uncomplicated move. It didn’t take long, however, until the red flags started waving. I have written a story below regarding my experience, the moral of which is DO NOT HIRE COLONIAL VAN LINES!!! I’ll break down the bullet points for those that don’t want to read the whole story.
• We were not provided the weight of the truck on arrival, as promised.
• We were not provided the updated weight after pickup, as promised.
• I was met with a condescending attitude by the staff.
• Though the delivery address never changed, the company decided last minute that they would need a shuttle to bring the items to my home and I incurred an additional fee of nearly $400 for the service, which was not included in the original quote.
• The truck arrived several days after the delivery window had expired, which happened to be in the middle of a trip that I had planned. Even though they were the ones who were several days late they charged ME a storage fee!!
• The moving company called me on a Friday afternoon requesting payment for delivery. They said they were closed on the weekend and could only process my payment within the next five hours. If I did not call back in time then I would have to pay them CASH on delivery!! I happened to be on a transcontinental flight at the time and had no way to return their call. They were, fortunately, able to get in touch with my husband. They instructed him to EMAIL the credit card information. He refused, as email is not a secure method of payment. He was ultimately able to give it to them over the phone before they closed. Otherwise we would have had to scramble to somehow get enough cash on a weekend to get our furniture released to us.
• The movers finally arrived and left us with damaged furniture and HUGE, DEEP scratches on our brand new, beautiful floor despite the cardboard and blankets we had put down to protect it.
• The tape the moving company wrapped around all of our belongings was incredibly difficult to remove and left green residue on everything it touched.
• The final delivery weight was EXACTLY the same weight as the estimate. How is that possible?! Did they even weigh it??
• I was never, not once, offered any apology for any of this.
Here is my story: Once upon a time there was a young, talented, and wise sales representative working in a far off establishment known as Colonial Van Lines. Her skill and cunning were unequaled and she was a great success, but don’t be fooled, for she is the villain of this tale. One day a hopeful and naïve young couple came to her. They were looking for a way to move their small castle to a faraway kingdom. “Fear not,” she told them, “for I have the solution you seek.”
She made wonderful promises and spun tales of other’s successes. The couple was thrilled and agreed to sign the contract. Once signed, the sales representative disappeared in a puff of smoke never to be seen again, with only her assistant remaining behind. The assistant was bitter and dissatisfied with her lot and she treated the couple poorly indeed. Nonetheless, they looked forward to the day they would pack up all their treasures for the move across the land.
Here’s where I’m going to get real… The red flags I mentioned above? Well they began to appear shortly before my move date when I was introduced to another member of the team. This new person was not as open as the original sales rep. She seemed annoyed by my questions and I got the impression that she thought I was wasting her time when I called her up to ask about inventory changes. On moving day, two men in a small truck showed up to collect our belongings. I have no complaints for the men themselves; they took good care of our furniture. They, however, did not provide me with the promised paperwork regarding the weight of the truck prior to pickup. Nor was the truck big enough. If we had not decided to leave behind some of our furniture, there was no way it would have all fit.
They loaded up what we did want and drove off. I waited 24 hours for a follow up phone call from Colonial telling me the weight of my items. (This was one of the many items promised me by the sales rep.). I finally decided to call and ask for an update. The woman who received my call spoke to me in an incredibly condescending manner and would only tell me that, “it’s a process and they would call me when they know more.” I don’t know how long it takes to weigh a truck but I waited 6 days.
The day before the first day of our delivery window I finally called back for an update. The only information they could give me was that my delivery was delayed and wouldn’t be leaving California until the day before the end of my delivery window. So there was no way it would make it to Louisiana within the time frame originally communicated, which was a window of TEN DAYS!!! I’m a flight attendant and had requested the time of the delivery window off so that I could be present when our belongings arrived. Because the delivery was so delayed, I had to go back to work before it arrived and my husband was left to deal with it alone.
I finally received a call from Colonial giving me the final bill. It was nearly $400 more than estimated!! This was not due to weight, which would have been more acceptable, but rather a foreseeable issue relating to the truck itself. You see, they determined that the hired truck was too large to navigate my street and I needed to pay for a shuttle to complete the move. My delivery address never changed so why wasn’t I informed of this during the original estimate?!
Just before the scheduled delivery day I received a voice mail from the contracted moving company saying that I needed to provide them with my credit card information within the next 5 hours before they closed. Well I was hopping from one flight to the next and there was no way I could call them back. Thankfully, they got in touch with my husband. They told him that if he didn’t provide the credit card details within the next few hours, then they would demand CASH at delivery! How were we supposed to get cash on a weekend when we don’t even have a local bank yet?!!? Then they wanted him to email the credit card information, which he refused to do, as email is not a secure payment method. Anyway… we got them their money.
Delivery day comes and we have put cardboard and blankets down to protect our new, beautiful hardwood floors. It doesn’t work. There are large, deep scratches in our once gorgeous wood. Several items are damaged and our spirits are shattered. Furthermore, all of our items had been covered with an obnoxious green tape which proved impossible to remove. We still have bits of green tape on most of our belongings.
The bill of lading comes and it shows that the final weight of our items was EXACTLY the same as was estimated, down to the pound!!! Either the sales representative who estimated our weight is a bloody genius, or they didn’t even bother to weigh anything. I may never know. There was also a storage fee. When were our belongings stored!? They were late due to the delivery company, not us!!! I’ve never received an apology. The only thing I’ve received from the company is email after email asking for a review. Well here’s your review, Colonial. What now?
Mrs. Atkins,
Thank you for speaking with us to reach a positive resolution for your issues here.

I had a friend who moved from California to Georgia about two years ago. I went to the website of the company she used and they didn't have anything about shipping and moving housing anymore. But they had a link to Colonial on the website. My dad found another company for me but when I called them to confirm some details, they couldn't answer all of my questions because I had a lot of questions. They were like, "You have to call this person and you have to call that person.” I questioned why they couldn't just tell me the information. I called Colonial and they answered all of my questions.
My biggest issue at the time was I didn't know exactly all that was in my storage unit. I was afraid that I would get quoted one thing and it would end up being way over the amount of what I had budgeted to spend. I gave the person I was speaking to at Colonial as much information as I could then I ask them what the process looked like if it was over that. They were able to get me all the information about what it would look like for it to be over that. That was the reason I end up going with Colonial. Also, going through the process was very easy.
The guys who came originally to pack up all my things did an amazing job packing everything up. They were so helpful. The estimate they gave me of what it would be over was a little bit overwhelming but after they did the actual estimation and when they got it down to Southern California, it was totally fine. The expectations were spot-on and the estimated amount over was actually cheaper than what I would've spent doing it myself of going with the other company. The people were very kind. I felt very stressed out and unprepared for the situation but they weren't. Everything went well and all my stuff came intact. Even the guys who delivered my stuff to my house were so cool. They were very interactive, engaging and helpful.
An almost stress-free move! So glad we could help Brittany :) Thank you!

Colonial Van Lines called me and I liked what they had to say. I liked their price and all of that. Everything that their coordinator told me was good and everybody seemed to know what they were doing. They were honest. The pick-up was good. But when they dropped my furniture off, they didn’t put my TV and a few other things back together that they took apart to start with. Other than that, it was all right. The driver of that truck was really nice and courteous. It was a good move and I got my money’s worth.

I was selecting either Colonial Van Lines or another company. I went to the website, did a quick search, and Colonial had better reviews so I decided to go with them. They were priced slightly higher but I guess it was the right decision. They were able to communicate effectively. Diana was the person who gave me the quote. She was really accessible and there to help if I needed to make an adjustment on the schedule or some other concerns. Then they were always on top of the schedule, both on the delivery end and pick-up's end. The movers did a good job. On pick-up, they were there on time and they collected the goods. Then they were trying to deliver the next day, but I wasn’t able to get to my house so they were efficient about getting the delivery. It was a wonderful experience with them.

I have completed 8+ interstate and international moves in my life. This is by far the worst moving service/experience I have ever received. One of the biggest issues was that Colonial subcontracted our move to a very unqualified partner of theirs, without informing us that they were not actually going to do the move. That partner was Morales Moving and Storage. The move and pack teams were the same people not two different teams. They packed and loaded at the same time; never doing a proper pack or inventory. The team they sent was untrained and incompetent not wrapping or protecting our items properly. They did not bring proper moving or packing tools, the team was actually cutting the tape while packing with their teeth, as they did not bring tape guns. We had to go out and buy boxes for them and had to do some of the packings ourselves as we had a hard deadline to get out.
There is a lot more to the story, which I will add to this review in the future. To add more objective data to this story, Colonial/Morales fired 2 of the 3 movers that did our pack/move within days of leaving our home due to their incompetence. It took around 19 days to get our goods delivered to our new home. Colonial had to bring in a new crew from the east coast to California to complete our move. What a terrible experience by a company that should have known and done better. I will be adding pictures to show the level of care and professionalism Colonial provided my family and I. I would stay far away from Colonial and Morales.
Reviewed Feb. 29, 2020
The estimate that I received from Colonial Van Lines came in as the middle estimate of the three estimates that I got. As the move started, I figured that they would be using third-party companies to do their move. I was moving from California to Georgia and I didn't really have any special requests. It was a little bit stressful experience.
When they packed up my truck, they stated to me that time that I was over the estimate given to me based on all the configurations that I went through with the sales rep at Colonial. I get that and I don’t mind being over. But we went over this thoroughly and I didn't expect that I should have to pay twice as much for the space.
The estimate was $6,800 and they came back to me and said that it would be 7,950. I thought that was reasonable, but I didn't want them to come back and tell me it would be $10,000. That would be way, way off. To be that far from the estimate means that they're not completely aware of what they're doing, particularly, if they've been in the business for 10 years.
The movers that Endurance used did a good job. I had about 10 boxes there when they were packing. As I was going through unpacking my stuff, they put a label on a small item that should’ve gone in a box. So they nickel-and-dimed me in a way of labeling small things and then they presented it back to Colonial like I had a lot more items than what was originally shown. That was a little bit disingenuous.
When I got to Georgia, it ended up being that the house that I was expecting to move into was flooded. So I literally had to start all over again and find a place to live. I was speaking to the mover and I told him about my situation. I didn't have the house ready. He was in Texas, and he said he had four more moves to do and he wouldn’t be here until like that Tuesday. That was fine because, by that time, I should have a place. Then he called me that Sunday and said that he would be there that evening.
The mover got here Sunday night, so Colonial was not open. So, we gotta wait till Monday and I was starting my new job on Monday too. That piece of it was stressful. They ended up charging me because they couldn't move it. The mover said that the weight estimate brought me from $6,800 to $8,200. He also said that real cost is $8,700 and that I would have to pay the remaining 800 something dollars in 30 days. Then I was told that if I wasn't ready to have some place, they had to charge me $75 an hour. It just started getting crazy like that. I told them that I wouldn't pay them 10 or 12 grand on this move and it didn't seem right for them to go that far off the estimate of $6,800. It didn't make any sense to me.
There's a lot of back and forth with Colonial. I asked to speak to higher-ups because I told them that they were not gonna charge me $75 when they got here this evening. I even asked them why they had to go to Florida and why couldn’t they just drop my stuff off on the way back. Then they said that they couldn't do that because of other stuff that we wanted to put on the truck and my stuff would be getting in the way. So, it ended up being that Tuesday when they moved me and they charged me an additional $250 because they couldn't move me on Monday ‘cause I didn't get my place until Tuesday.
In the discussion that I had with them, the mover said he wouldn’t be here until Tuesday, but he just got here two days early. I had that window but they took advantage of it and they were saying that the window was on Friday till Wednesday, and the mover just happened to get there on Monday so it was within my window.
The original quote was almost $3,000 off. That's significant. Also, I was working on their time schedule and they just didn't understand that I was transitioning to another state. The communication could’ve been a little bit better. I was in communication with them, but they were trying to do the move quickly. I called the company each day. The other thing too was that my first account manager quit or they let her go in the middle of my move. So, I was calling and I didn’t know who to contact. Finally, someone called me and that person was good once they got in contact with me, but no one was telling me what was going on until I speak to someone.

Colonial was very comparably priced and their initial customer service was better. They explained everything. But I actually had to fire the first company that showed up to load and pack. When they initially showed up at the house, the gentleman was extremely rude from the moment he got out of the truck. He told us that we were gonna have to pay for a shuttle because he wouldn’t be able to park his truck in our driveway or on the road.
I contacted Colonial Van Lines but the first lady I dealt with got rude so I told her I wanted to strictly deal with the person I’ve been dealing with, which was Donna. Granted, I was already in a bad mood. But she was like, “Well, we can’t get somebody out there for another two weeks. Are you gonna take these guys or not?” I was paying these guys almost $11,000. I was not gonna put up with attitude, especially when the whole picture just started off bad that day. Donna ended up calling me back. We ended up getting a second company to come out and it was amazing because this guy parked his truck between my fence like a glove.
It was kinda difficult because everybody kept listening to the first driver who said he couldn't park his truck in there. I understand that most people are like, “Well, I don’t know. I don’t know.” But our house had flooded in hurricane Florence and we had semis that backed right up into the driveway. I told them they were looking at a satellite picture and a ground view but that it is bigger. But it eventually worked out. I even sent Donna pictures of everything while the second guy was parked there. Then she passed it up the chain to show that it could have been done. The first company was also sketchy to begin with because of the way his truck was. The second company was ten times more professional-looking to begin with. They showed up and introduced themselves.

As a former military family we’ve experienced numerous moves over the years, and we are very pleased with the experience we had with Colonial Van Lines. They treated our home and belongings with the utmost care placing a protective barrier down on our hardwood floors and wrapping all of our antiques with padding. We had several granite shelves that arrived in perfect condition. From the very beginning the various departments we worked with were helpful and knowledgeable. Our move was across the country and was our most worry free move that we’ve ever had. We would use Colonial Van lines again and would recommend them to our friends and family.

Based on the reviews, I hired Colonial Van Lines and during the move, my experience with them was good. The pickup was very easy and they were pretty easy to work with. But in terms of dropping off, they did not drop off within the date that they had set out for me. So that was kinda frustrating. They picked my things up the day after Christmas and they dropped it off January 9th. The delivery was three days late. There were also a couple of days where they would tell me that they would reach out to me and then not reach out, then they wouldn't answer for a little bit. But it is what it is. Aside from that, there was a little bit of damaged furniture and stuff. But you can't really expect perfect stuff when you're moving 1,500 miles way. Other than that, they did everything that they said. Plus, they were quick with the packing and unpacking.

I had one moving company and they were a disaster. So I went online and checked Colonial and their price was right. Everything was excellent. The movers were on time when they said they were coming and picking up. They set everything where I wanted it and there were no damages. I will use them again.

My brother who used Colonial for a prior move gave them good reviews. I went with them for my last move and found them to be dependable and honest. There was a lot of communication and the delivery went excellently. I really like that they gave us an option to deliver one day later ‘cause we had to drive ourselves in our own cars. They were gonna deliver on a Friday and we needed an extra day. The head mover gave us that extra day to breathe and get ready for them to arrive which helped tremendously.
Great to hear! Thanks for trusting us with your move and for sharing how everything went

I'm retired from the air force and was moving back to Texas. I liked Colonial Van Lines' price and that they were able to give me a good time frame for when the stuff would be picked up and delivered. The reps were very accurate and let me know if I had an extra TV or extra pictures I didn't think about that they would have extra stuff to pack and of course, I would be charged for it. But they were very helpful with letting me know about that process. And then, they called several times to make sure that I knew what was going on and if they had any questions, they reached out very quickly.
They gave me a pre-brief on what to expect through messages and then also through the phone calls and made sure everything was ready to go once they got to the old house. Then they made sure everything was taken care of. Some of my stuff was already prepacked but they just retaped everything just to make nothing feel out and help me get stuff together. They did a wonderful job.
The person who picked up my stuff was also the one who delivered my stuff so we already had the rapport from the move. I've been a military brat and been in the air force for 21 years. And with other experiences I had, it was like they hated their job. They didn't want to be there. But these guys were very talkative. We shipped a motorcycle that was very important to us. They were very caring and careful with it instead of just throwing everything on the truck. They did exceptional. So out of 40 years in moving, that was the best move I've had.

The delivery date kept changing for Colonial Van Lines to deliver our furniture to Georgia. One day, they called us and said we couldn’t do the delivery that day. And then later on, they called back again and said we can move it to the original date. And we said, “We have made arrangements now for people to help us, so we can’t move it back again.” So, there was a change twice.
A mattress had to go upstairs and the guy who was in charge said he couldn’t do it. And I said, “You push that down.” He said, “Well, we can’t just keep waiting to do this. We gotta move on.” They’re experienced, but I was looking at them trying to take it upstairs. I said, “You go one way and bring it down. You can bring it out.” One of the guys that was with him said, “Try it.” But the one who was in charge wouldn’t do it. He said, “If I mess up the wall, then we’d be responsible for it.”The guy took the mattress and I said, “How am I gonna get the mattress up there? You know, it had to go upstairs.” I knew it could come upstairs. And there were three of them. When my son came home, he took it up with my husband with no problem. It was only my son who did it. My husband pushed it but my son maneuvered the mattress. And I said, “They could’ve done that themselves.”
After the delivery guys were long gone, you don’t open all the containers until later. I found out that some of my vases that I look at at night were broken. My husband said, “We got to superglue with the glass. It’s broken on the frame. You lost that. You gotta go get another frame.” I had about three of those that were broken. They’re picture frames that I put on the wall and in the bathroom. The glass was broken in them. I didn’t know it until my husband called. We had opened up everything and so I just opened the one upstairs, “Oh, no, not this. This is not broken.” But it was.
One time they said that our furniture would be the only ones in the truck. I had some picture frames that were broken. I didn’t see any damage with furniture. I don’t know if they threw the boxes in, or raised them again to get the other people furniture on. When they loaded up, it was raining and I had a cold, so I wasn’t outside that much. Also, the container was so dirty. It had some problem. We made a complaint. We told them about it when they were unpacking.
We had five items in total that didn’t belong to us. One was a big table. Then they opened up a picture frame and I said, “That’s not ours.” They put it against the wall. So, we began to open up our furniture and said, “Oh, this is not ours.” We also opened a nice mirror and some picture frames. We have items in our garage now waiting for Van Lines to pick them up. In the beginning, it was less expensive. But when you finish adding it up, it became very expensive. But other than those things, Colonial was good in a sense. They moved in there pretty well. It was beginning to rain so they worked pretty fast. They did what I asked them to.

It was a very important move for me. I was moving from one state to another permanently. I lived in New York and now I’m in Florida. I liked the conversation I had with Colonial's representative. He was very convincing, thorough, and he answered my questions. I was very happy with the way he answered all my questions. They kept informing when they will pick up my things, how it was going, and how I should prepare for my move, which was very important. That was very good.
And then, the pick-up was good. I didn't have a lot but they were very fast. Even as they were packing, some individuals were packing and the other one was going over everything with me, making sure I knew what was going on. The delivery day they gave me was perfect, and then when they told me they would be here, they were here that day. There was nothing missing. There were couple of damages but they're working with me. They're good. I would recommend them to others.

I Googled the moving companies and Colonial Van Lines had a high rating in Colorado. The people in Colorado were very good about getting everything going. They stayed in communication with me. The driver was significantly late in coming to load my furniture, but he stayed in touch. So I knew that he would be late. He kept contacting me until he came. I was pleased with that. I was so disappointed that he was not gonna drive my furniture to Florida. He just picked it up, and then they reloaded it onto a moving van. I even called him when I hadn't heard from the other guy. But he was very good.
When he came to unload, he seemed to be easily frustrated. He was extremely tired. His unloading and his attitude was just not what I thought would've been more professional. It made me a little weary, the care of my furniture, because he said that he was totally exhausted. But the man that was with him was very professional. He was right on top of things and not grumpy.

After doing a lot of research and speaking with Paul of Colonial Van Lines, he reassured me and helped direct me to find further information to satisfy my needs or curiosity on whether or not I was making the right decision. So, he was very patient. I spoke with several people during the entire move, but he was the first person that I spoke to initially, and then he did follow up even during the move, although I don’t believe that he was assigned to. He took that step up. The day of pick-up went smoothly. I just can't praise the people that showed up enough. It was my brother who was there for the delivery. He called and thanked me for making it seamless. If we would ever move again, we would definitely be contacting Colonial.

The preliminary contact and set up of the pick-up was very good. The end product was not very good. I don't know if the mistakes lie in the storage or delivery, but delivery was handled by two different carriers and was handled in a very disreputable way. I would suggest Colonial NOT use these carrier again.

I did a relocation for my work and Colonial was super responsive to my inquiries. When I talked to them on the phone, they were super helpful and seemed very responsive. The moving coordinator was very comprehensive, asked me really good questions, and got me to a basic understanding of what the process was gonna be. So, it was very easy going. He also set accurate expectations of the services and I didn't have any discrepancies.
Then, the guys came out and packed things for us. They were there a little bit after-hours and were a little bit slower than I'd like to think. But it was more on our end because we didn't have as much packed as we anticipated when we first got quote. Still, they were nice, helpful, professional and then they delivered the next day. I've moved before for business and it usually takes a week to get our stuff. The fact that we got it the next day was absolutely outstanding. We didn't have to sleep in a mattress 'cause we had our bed the next day. We didn't have to pack too many clothes as well 'cause we had all our stuff the next day. So, it's awesome.

There was a website that I looked up for cross-country moving and Colonial Van Lines was one of the recommended companies. Out of the five options that were there, they're like the easiest one. The move was from Houston to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I only had about two weeks from when I had to call and get a quote before I had to report to my new job in Fort Lauderdale. Any other moving company probably wouldn’t want to handle that, but Colonial was able to and they did it really well. When the stuff was supposed to arrive at the new apartment, it was like a day delay because the van had an issue and broke down and the guys moving, but for that to be the only hiccup was incredible.
My moving coordinator, Bella, was great. I had aspirations to get a quote from another company, but after I had talked to her on the phone and she was able to get it figured out pretty quickly, I felt better about staying with Colonial instead of calling anybody else. The only curve ball we had in the 11th hour change up on was that clothes had to be in boxes. We thought we could just have clothes in bags and then since we found out the last minute, they had to be boxed up. But other than that, it wasn’t big enough to be a big deal.
The moving account manager was good. She stayed on top of following up with me if I had any questions or making sure that I got enough phone calls and emails when I was five days out, three days out, and one day out. That made it easy. The pick up and delivery were really fast. It was a one bedroom apartment, and we were all packed already, so all they had to do was move the boxes into the van. They got it done in two hours. I've never had to do a move like that before on such short notice. Colonial made it super easy. They made me feel like they were on top of it the whole time. They made sure that they checked up on me constantly.
Thanks for the review Anthony! Welcome to Florida!

Colonial Van Lines was really good about getting back to you and calling you pretty much constantly about the move. What bothers me about them most of all was that when I found that they were gonna sub it out, I asked them if they were a moving company. They said they do that and that they have their trucks but they have to sub this one out. I told them I didn't like that very much but I was kind of under the gun where I had to leave and I couldn't put it off, so that was fine.
They quoted me a price for the move in the beginning, and I was okay with that and all the supplies that were needed, but when the boys came to move me and they packed everything up, they wanted $1,602. They were calling their boss, and I could hear him talking to them, and he was saying that I could pay cash. I told them that that was not gonna happen and it was a Saturday, so the banks are closed. I then heard the guy say, "Well, she can pay with a debit card." I said no again. They said it was for extra supplies.
I couldn't call Colonial because they were closed, and that bothered me a lot. There was nobody to get ahold of on Saturday or Sunday to find out what was going on and why they needed an extra $1,602. So I didn't pay it. But they did move me and nothing was said about this $1,602. They didn't mention it, but they wanted the remaining of the bill to be paid and that they wanted $5,000. I already paid 2,000 as a downpayment and the total was supposed to be 5,000, but by the time they got done, they wanted 7,000 and they wouldn't unload the truck until I did.
I have a really good relationship with my credit card company. So I called them ahead and let them know. The movers kept saying that it was for extra supplies and that it was 1,000 more pounds. They were right. I have the bill of lading. It was 1,000 over what we estimated, so they get extra money for things being heavy and for all the shrink wrap. But the boys were very nice. They were only following orders because I could hear the guy talking to their boss, and he had a heavy Indian accent, but he wanted cash. I told them that I was gonna put it on the credit card, but I was not happy with this, and that I would be getting back with Colonial when I can get ahold of them. It was too much. It was not what I was quoted. But I paid them.
The boys that did the move couldn't have been nicer. They were careful. They were kind, professional and courteous. They did an excellent job. They were just doing what their boss told them to do when it came to the money. They worked really, really hard. All said and done, I called Colonial on Monday, and last week, I got a refund for $1,673. But I told Colonial that they need to explain this better because when I called them, they estimated and got everything which I said not until it was ready to move, then I find out that I was gonna have a sub and I didn't like that. I also didn't like the fact that I couldn't get ahold of them over the weekend. They kept saying that they were trying to do it an overnighter since it was a quick move. But that was what they're in the business to do.
I would still recommend them because Colonial themselves stood behind what they said. They have been very good about calling me back, checking in with me and getting things taken care of. So I was very pleased about that. I really never had that much attention from any company at all, and I've moved before and I didn't get that either. But with Colonial, I heard from a claims person and from almost every person in the department, the coordinator, the organizer, the estimator, and the director of quality. They're a big team and they all call. So I give them kudos for that. It's just the sub is a little sketchy. They need to check out their subs that they give out jobs to a little more.

My husband got a job so we needed to move our stuff to a new state. I Googled Colonial, found good ratings and I called them. The reps were very pleasant and Colonial was very efficient on when they would be able to make the move. They said that once they pick up the load, they would have a five to seven day window to move the stuff. My husband and I booked our return tickets so we would be here after five days. But our 5th day was going to fall on the day that we were supposed to land, which was on a Wednesday. So we called the company and asked them if they could tell the driver to come the next day. They said no and the company, by their laws, was adamant on that. That really bugged us and we ended up paying for the driver's stay overnight and that came out of our paycheck, and I didn't like that at all.
When we requested something, Colonial couldn't do it. They have to be a bit flexible. If they say five to seven days, it doesn't matter if they could just one day extend it to call the customer who had an emergency or couldn't make it on time. Five to seven days means you can do the 6th or the 7th day. My husband asked if they couldn’t come on the 7th. They said it starts on the 5th and the driver said he would be there on the 5th, which was really strange and my main concern.
The expectations were too high when we booked with Colonial. Then, when the move started coming closer to date then we had to pay the driver extra and the things started coming out and they were broken, things just started falling down. The driver who did the move brought everything but I still have to file a claim. I have not gotten around to it but I have pictures. He broke a few items that I would never have thought would be broken in the move. It was so amazing after he wrapped up everything because of the way they put it and they said they will triple wrap it. They only had my stuff in the truck and things got broken.

We were moving to a new house in another state about 500 miles. Colonial Van Lines helped pack some things but most of what we've had was box still packed already except for some furniture. The quote was fairly accurate. We came in a little under, which was nice, which meant we didn't have quite as much to pay at the delivery. Everyone involved did a decent job. The men who loaded were subcontractors, and they worked hard, got it done quickly and followed directions well. I would recommend them to someone else. The communication with the manager who was running it was a little spotty. The company switched managers in midstream and all of sudden, we had to talk to someone different. But other than that, everything got there just fine without any damage. So, I'm quite pleased with the result.

I didn’t have the best experience with the logistics company. I was making sure that someone could pay for their transportation with all certified funds and that they never have to show up somewhere with cash. When my car did arrive, I was told that I had to get half of my money in cash. It couldn't be in certified funds. I had to send the remaining portion of that money via Venmo. It didn’t seem like the best option because I was meeting them on a street where I had cash on me that I had to be giving directly in public. It was creating a number of safety issues. Also, the timing was off by several hours. I was told my car could be picked up that Friday night, and then it was changed to Saturday morning. Had I known that ahead of time, it would have been easier for me because I was coordinating from across the country.
I was relocating for a job. I went online and searched logistics stuff and transfers. I work for an experience management company and so, I'm all about really great experiences. I did a lot of research on the reviews and the processes that were in place. The young lady from Colonial Van Lines and who I was working with was Sade. She did amazing with following up with me, ensuring that I had all the resources that I needed and making sure the pickup and drop-off times were more accurate. She called me every other day just to make sure the process was going smoothly. When there was a challenge in picking up my car, she reached out to the logistics company, got back to me and at least let me know what the status of my move.
When my logistics company told me that I owe $50 more than what I was quoted, Sade ensured that I got my refund in an adequate amount of time. She immediately pulled up my account and was able to see the amount that I was quoted and she reached out to someone in the finance department so I did receive a call from someone in finance telling me that the money would be refunded.

Colonial Van Lines are very nice people. I had to go to Florida. It was 1,200 miles. I had the option with Colonial to do this long drive. Some local transportation companies didn’t do that. But something was wrong because when the truck was in my home, the guy came with a little truck and they were supposed to have a little bigger sized truck. The guy had to rent a U-Haul to pick my stuff from my home. Then he was starting to complain to me that I had more things than he expected because the volume here was this one and the volume would be more than that. So I had to pay more But other than that, it was okay. Colonial outsource their service and they don’t have people that speak English that much. It was difficult to communicate with them.

I looked up on the internet then I went with Colonial Van Lines because they have a 5-star. I talked to a guy by the name of Drexel and he sounded really good. He sounded like he was sure to his word and it all went well in the beginning. But at the end, the price got jacked up quite a bit when he dropped off all my furniture. The price was quoted a little over 13,000 but on the day that they got my furniture to the house, it was almost 19,000. I went into a panic-crying attack. We scrambled for some money and paid Miguel, the driver, because he said he had to get his money right then. We're newbies to all these moving stuff so we just paid him.
Then upon unpacking all of our furniture after he left, we found out that the antique rocking chair and a safe were missing. A patio table, a cosmetology roll-about, and a drawer to an antique chair were also missing. A 5-foot rock iron three-shelf stand-up picture rack is missing as well. A lot of things were broken, too. When Miguel left, he got stuck in my yard and was there for about three hours. But the back was shut and I thought everything was empty. I've been talking to the lady by the name of Gladys, conversing with her about finding my items, and I was told that on the 4th I would get an email. But I have not gotten any yet. Then I got a call from her this morning and I told her I do not want any emails, I want paperwork sent to my house so I could fill it up.
Aside from that, on the day of the move, I found out that the whole tail was broken off of my 3-foot ceramic rooster. Miguel took a picture of it and told me that they would send me $50 for it. But I have not received that yet. I'm very dissatisfied in Colonial and it's been a total nightmare since the day we got here on January 10th. They also told me that I didn't have to pack my my 5-foot rock iron picture rack and that they would wrap it. I even paid for the wrapping but it did not get to my house.
Plus, I have no proof of what actually got on that truck. A few days after we hired Colonial, Drexel called and wanted a list of everything that was gonna be on the truck. There were three households being moved, mine, my fiancé's, and my sister's. So the day that he called, my fiancé was going through my house and giving a list of what were being moved. Then he gave a list of his house that was being moved, and then a list at my sister's house that was being moved. But it was a spur of the moment call so he couldn't mention everything.
Then I got this list inventory of everything that was being moved in the mail. But some of the items on this list did not go because they got sold at a yard sale. Still, that's the only list that I have and I did not get a list from the company of what actually got taken. I asked for it but I did not get it. I also got one phone call, which was a recording, telling me my missing items might be on another truck. But how did they get put on another truck from California to Arkansas? And Miguel told me that there was only gonna be four pianos on the truck with my three houses that were being moved. So where did my stuff go?

At the time, I thought Colonial did their own trucks, but it turned out they were broker, but the price was still great. The coordinator was good. It turned out to be more money than I thought it would, but that was just on account of since it was the first apartment, I didn’t think there would be many boxes. They started seeing a furnished apartment where I wasn’t moving the furniture. There was gonna be a certain amount of boxes. But it turned out I had a ton more stuff and there were a lot more boxes than I thought there would be So that wasn’t their fault. The account manager was great. She called frequently to update things on how the progress of the truck was coming along and did the truck arrived okay and how the movers were. Colonial was very good in keeping in touch and the move went very well.

I used Colonial based on their reviews, and they were always on top of things, like calling me and putting me on the notice. However, I’m not happy about a few things. One is that the movers wouldn’t move one particular furniture because they needed to take it out from my window. I had to bring somebody else to remove the window so they can remove the actual furniture. That really took a lot of my time for that day. So, that’s awful. The second one is that, when I received the quote, they told me that the quote was a little bit higher just in case I needed more boxes. But at the end, I paid a couple of hundred more. And I didn’t bring all my stuff. There were some stuff that I gave away, and still, my payment was higher. Finally, the timing - they arrived really late. They gave me a window, but although they called me and told me where they were, they came one week after. I had to buy some stuff, like clothes.

Timing-wise, they only mentioned during when I have the appointment set up that it would be plus or minus one day, but at the very day, it was also the same thing. They didn’t deviate much. Even the price value was on point on what they mentioned.

I was overcharged which they mentioned to me before so weight was much lesser. Colonial was supposed to issue a refund and they followed up about it but I haven’t heard from them after that. They said they’re still working on it and that I should get it soon, but it has been taking quite a while. Original Review: Colonial Van Lines contract out people. They are like a middleman and I was not aware of that, or else, I would have just paid for someone directly. The movers were super shady Russian guys and they tried to screw me about five times. They said to sign the paperwork before they put any information on it. They also broke a couple of my things and I have to do the insurance claim for it. My items got here fast though. We were in St. Cloud, Minnesota and I tried to go through 2 big companies for this move. Mayflower said they won't be able to do it. The other company, Allied, has a quotation that was a little bit higher and they had little bit more delayed time as they wouldn't be available for another 5 or 6 days. So, I ended with Colonial and the coordinator did a good job doing the over the phone quotation. We talked about what's in every room and he asked about furniture, bookcases, and all those things. However, we had only 4,200 or 4,300 pounds but they estimated 5,300. Then he asked us to wait a little bit more for the packaging cost. Also, compared with Allied, they were able to send representatives in person who took a look at the house. And based on his actual visit, he estimated a different quote but the weight was similar in both quotations.
This was our first experience moving this big so we had some learning curve to go through. Also, it was over the Christmas break and we were in a rush to see how soon they can pick it up. Everything went well at first but I did not know first hand that there is another third party company involved. I thought Colonial is the main company who's more like the big moving companies but then they recommended me to Mover Dudes, which handles everything. And until I got the Mover Dudes' number from Colonial, I did not know when exactly they were gonna pick it up or any ETA, so I had a little bit of a hard couple of days dealing with the customer service.
There were some times I was frustrated I couldn't get any information from them, because they do not know anything until I kept calling them and try to find out. But at the same time, I was able to talk to Mover Dudes and then got more information than the Colonial representative about this move. In a way, it was a customer rapport deal with my issue and later on they had to switch to someone else. So, they assigned my move to another customer representative.
The other thing is they had to refund us some balance since we were under 5,000. For that balance check, I was supposed to directly call to the Colonial accounts department. I left a couple of messages to the accounts representative who's handling the accounts but because they had different branches, they kept sending me emails like, "Oh, I'm from this department. I'm handling this, I'm handling that." They take the full responsibility and the first two days, I was bombarded with all these department emails. I had to go through it so many times and tried to figure out, "Okay, where is the balance check coming from, refund comes from?"
Then again, I called the Mover Dudes and they said, "It's gonna be written from them but they don't know whether they're supposed to send it to Colonial or they're supposed to send direct to me." It took a few days to figure that out, but after that, the Mover Dudes sent it to me directly. But since then, Colonial did not call me to finalize the move or anything like that. They just disappeared from the picture.
Thank you for sharing! And thank you for speaking with me today! I'm glad we could get everything squared away and that the move overall went well :)

I looked at the reviews and talked to the providers, and everything was okay. The rates and the time of delivery were acceptable, so we thought Colonial was better over the others. Everything went smooth as we expected. We didn’t have any delays in pick-up or delivery. This is the total fourth time we are moving, so in my experience, they did a great job. Overall, we are completely satisfied.
Priyanka,
Glad to hear everything went so well!

Colonial Van Lines was able to lock in a time that worked for my move faster than some of the other companies. Everything was explained by the coordinator and it all went perfectly well. They moved a four-bedroom house about 1,100 miles. But the loading and unloading were really slow and took nine hours on each end. The expectation they set was okay on the front end. But on the back end, instead of getting at least a 48-hour notice of when the movers would be at the new house, we had about 15 hours. So, we left Arizona as soon as we got the notification and met the movers at the new house right then. It was not ideal from that end.
There were also some damages that I had filled a claim report on. One of the desks and the headboard for one of the beds were damaged. And when they brought in the couches, there was still a piece of MDF plywood on the bottom of the couches for shipping reasons. I didn't completely unpack them and left them in the plastic wrap coming from the furniture store. When the movers placed those in the house, they took a couple of gouges out of the wood floor. Next time, I know what to look out for and would prepare myself better.

We were in a place in the United States where the local moving companies wouldn't move us across country, and then the big companies refused to come to us because it was a tricky place to access. It took us 4 months to find somebody that would actually agree to come out and move us. So, I chose Colonial because we were stuck. And we needed somebody to come and pack our house and drive us to our new place 4,000 miles across the country.
There were some issues in the beginning with misquoting a price. We thought we were gonna get it for one price, but he quickly came on and said he spoke with a supervisor, and then they had to address the price, and it was twice as much. But our hands were tied at that point and we had to go with them. Otherwise, we weren't moving. So, we sucked it up. But customer service-wise, everyone was apologetic and they followed up with us with phone calls. It wasn't a bad experience all in all. So, while they won't be a company I would go with now because we live in an area where there are plenty of options for us, I would recommend them to some people for being the only option.

I was on the internet and I called Colonial Van Lines for an appointment. The young lady who I talked to was very knowledgeable. I wanted them to move my thing because I was selling my house, and everything worked out wonderfully. They couldn’t get the truck down the street because the streets were narrow but they drove in, so it was delivered fine. It was a great job. I wish that I had truly hired them for the whole job. The guy didn’t pay me on time so I had to cancel out with Colonial because he had to get an extension to buy the house. It was eight days passed when they were supposed to move. It was a nightmare. But I had a nice experience with Colonial Van Lines. I enjoyed them. They answered the call and delivered on time. I was very pleased.

Colonial Van Lines didn’t send a big enough truck first, so we had to do two loads. It was all right. I've never done this move before, so I didn’t really know what to expect. But I hope to not do it again. It was delayed and we didn’t get our stuff ‘til much later than our window, but we have it now. The Colonial reps were fine, it was the actual moving people that had issues, but nothing huge.
On the delivery end, the guy seemed to be in a big hurry and was not a great communicator. He seemed to be very frustrated with me and I was getting frustrated with him as well. It was strange and awkward. He wanted things done, he wanted to move along, and I just wanted to make sure I was getting all my stuff. They wanted me to sign the paper. They didn’t even care what I was signing for. I asked, “What am I signing?” They said, “You just have to sign it.” I said, “Let me look at it and read it first.” Apparently, I was signing that they have indeed picked up everything that was supposed to go when there was another half a garage full of stuff they were gonna have to come back for. I also filed a claim and I'm just wondering at what point would that be taken care of. They would pay so much per day based on how late the stuff was getting to us and I haven’t heard anything on that.

They had a four-story walk-up to go down and the weight was 7,200 pounds. It was almost $2,000 more than what I had been given an estimate for , so that was not good. I wish that they would have somebody come out and look before I get an estimate that’s under $3,000. They had estimated it at 5,000, and the original quote was 2,800. Then it kept going up and up. It ended up being close to $4,500. I had no choice then. It was already too late. Everything was on the truck.
It puts kind of a bad taste in your mouth even though it was good service. The guys were good. They worked. They didn't complain. It was a lot of damn stairs for them to have to go down and then go back up to get more, to go back down, from where I lived. I had every single box labeled exactly which room they went in and what they were. We had to bounce boxes. I had to keep calling back because the rep said 40 boxes but that was almost my closet. It was a weird number. It was 67 boxes, but 67 boxes didn't go on the truck. Only 65 did. Two boxes went in my car. So in all actuality, I got charged for them. But I didn't complain because they all did a good job.

I was gonna go with a different company, and then my mom said Colonial Van Lines was around when she was a kid. She was really distrusting. She doesn't really trust the other companies because they're all new. I liked Colonial Van Lines. I had a good experience with them. They were friendly, fast and very open. I really liked how the guy that shipped our vehicles acted. He was nice and he did a good job. Everything was well coordinated on the phone with all the different people that we talked to throughout the process. Everything was satisfactory. They came the day after we got here, which was great, so we didn't have to stay in a hotel for one night. And they got here right on time. Everything was perfect. When I was choosing providers, I did the prices and it seemed like Colonial's price was right. I gave them a deposit of half of it, but the cost was a lot more higher than what I expected it to be when the actual move took place. The final cost was about 2,000 more so it was a little bit more expensive than what I planned on. Then, when we got here, there was a picture frame that is busted at the bottom and a hamster cage got broken. The grill was messed up as well but I fixed it. Other than those, the move was okay. The Colonial people were friendly and very respectful. They picked up at the time that they told they were going to and they dropped off at the time they said they were going to. So, that worked out all great.

There was a day’s delay at the beginning of my move just because of the weather. The truck was away. There were also some problems with the receiving end because we expected to be done. But Colonial had good people that worked hard. The coordinator was easy to work with and he kept everybody busy so I was happy with that. He was good. My stuff was left in the garage instead of down in my basement. I had to move them. There were also a few things that were destroyed in the move -- a lamp and a couple of bookcases and so forth. But for the most part, the move went well.

My brother and I were moving from Florida to Ohio and saw a Colonial Van Lines ad. When I called and talked to the customer service people, they seemed very professional and the price seemed fair. The rep answered all my questions and was very helpful. What she quoted was accurate, however, we ended up having more things than we thought and the cost was more. But that was nobody's fault.
Two guys came- the driver and his helper. They were awesome. We had packed most of everything, but they packed some of the stuff. They had to come two days late because we had a weather issue in Florida, so they worked until late at night to get everything packed. Once we got up here, they were here the day after we arrived. However, the driver's partner had come down with food poisoning. The driver unloaded the truck alone and had it unpacked in a few hours. He was smiling and never even flinched. He was amazing, positive and professional.

The people who picked up the furniture were professional. And after they left, Colonial called me again and asked me if the movers came. I also didn't expect my stuff to come in that early. My experience with their moving coordinator was outstanding, too. They called me all my time, almost every day, and there was no significant problem with the move.
The delivery guys were great as well. Pretty much the whole crew were Russian immigrants and I kinda had a good rapport with them. They worked their butts off and on the other end, the two drivers had to unload. They thought they could just go to a Home Depot and get some people to come help. But I tried to tell them before that I'm out in that part of West Virginia where you're not gonna find a Home Depot or anybody that’s gonna wanna work when it's 14 degrees. I read some of the reviews and those of Colonial were more impressive to me than any of the others. My first encounter with them was that they were about a whole week late on when the driver was supposed to arrive. Nevertheless, when he arrived he made up for all the inconvenience. He was very nice and very thorough. Even though it was just him driving the truck and loading the truck, he loaded everything up in one day and then came back the next day and loaded it in the truck. He was on time when he said he would get to New Jersey, and he unloaded the furniture, again, all by himself. My wife was as impressed with them as I was, too. When he unloaded that furniture, she went out and got some Chinese food and the three of us sat there and enjoyed the food.
Then the company, because he was a week late, reimbursed me. And that came when they said that it would and I did not have to wait in an inordinate amount of time, so I was completely pleased. The young lady that I talked to all the time was very nice, too. She was the one who made sure that I got that reimbursement. I was really impressed with the gentleman who did the loading and unloading, and so my experience was great.
Mr. Murray,
Thank you so much for the kind words and the great review.

Also, they hire people that have a hard time speaking English. So, it was kinda hard to tell them where to do things, but they seemed to understand the motions and they seemed to do well with it all. The head guy was a little bit hard to understand but he was on the ball. I would go through them again if I have to do this again but I would like them to give me reimbursement for the night table that they forgot. I’m relieved that I found it. I figured spend the money, get people that are used to it, get at it and make my life a lot easier. And it did work out. I found Colonial Van Lines online when I was doing a research. Their customer service handled my account well, and they were professional. When I was coming from Texas, the guys wrapped an expensive armoire that had an antique glass on top of it -- I guess they didn’t realize that the glass moves or they didn’t try to remove it, but they wrapped it with the glass on. When they came here, the guys did not know anything about the glass. So, when they took off the cloth on top of it, the glass fell and broke -- I’m not sure how in the world I’m going to replace it. Also, on the stools, some of them were bent. The arm was broken on a dining chair, too, and it was taped back together, so I found that a little flimsy.
The movers didn’t deny, but they didn’t say, “Okay. I’m gonna call my office. I’m gonna take pictures and I’ll send it to my office to help you.” They just put all the burden on me to report it and to file for a claim. I asked the customer service to send me a form so I can file the claim, but I haven’t seen it yet. They called me a couple of times and I asked them to send and resend it in case I didn’t see it, but so far, there has been nothing. If someone is moving, make sure you wrap your stuff well and take the insurance.

Updated on 03/09/2020: Good morning. I was recently contacted by Donna, of Colonial Van Lines. Donna wanted to discuss and understand, my relocation in November of 2019. Donna took the time to listen and apparently documenting my concerns while appropriately reiterating, that my experience was not inline with the company's policies, goals and best practices. Donna assured me, that my concerns will be taken seriously to resolution. I am happy to say, 3 weeks later, Donna called to discuss the resolution, which was accepted by both parties. Because of Donna, Colonial Van Lines, will be a moving option going forward. Donna’s integrity and honesty gives Colonial Vanlines 100 ⭐️s ???? Since the Maximum is 5, here goes ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Original Review: -3100 stars. This is by far the WORST move company I have EVER had to deal with. Then their subcontractor, "Quality Relocation INC.," has ZEEEROOO Quality. Unprofessional, was prepared to hostage my stuff. I hope I am able to attach what they moved for $3100.00. They can't give me the total, because the things needs to be weighed by a government scale. I AM YET!! to see ANYTHING from a Government weigh station. UNITED VAN LINES is the way to go. They professionally moved me to Florida; they never came to my home, and everything changed because the subcontractor, was as unprofessional but mostly shadier than Colonial.
Colonial, did NOT schedule a site survey at my house. IT WAS A FIASCO!!! DO NOT!!! use this company, it would be better if you drove your car back and forth with your stuff, or call my original AWESOME movers United Van Lines. I will now be moving Internationally. United and International Van Lines will get not only my company move clients, but the other 4 employees moving from the North East to US Virgin Islands. I'll show the attachment on the next page. I had to LEAVE 3/4 of my stuff, 'cause as soon as the crook, walked in, he started saying, it was too much. He has to call his boss. According to some fake weight, possibly his home scale, as I have NOT seen a copy of any government seal where he weighed his truck. 2360 pounds. Feast your eyes on the next page.
Thank you for working with us on a great resolution!

They had to bring a different truck than what they originally said. They already had three loads on it and we had the last portion of the truck. By the time we got started, it was about 5 o’clock and it was well after 7:00 when we got done. However, I was highly impressed with the care they took to make sure stuff was wrapped. We went with Colonial Van lines because of the price and the ConsumerAffairs recommendation. We had a move from Homestead, Florida, which is south of Miami, to New Orleans. Everybody I spoke to on the phone was good. The people who assisted during the move were courteous and knowledgeable. The price was higher than what I was quoted, but this was because they did not know exactly how much I had over the phone -- our house was for sale and they just looked at MLS pictures and we went through each room. It then ended up being a lot more than what I expected.
They said that the time of travel and the slight difficulty of putting my furniture in storage upped the price a little bit. Also, I was expecting a Colonial Van Lines truck to show up, but it did not. It was subcontracted, so that threw me off. The guy with the truck, however, was nice. He was on the road a lot. They, however, brought in local people to move and help load the truck, and the same thing happened on the delivery. I wouldn't have liked that if I was told of that upfront.

That's kind of the number one and number two criteria for evaluating a mover from my perspective. There were a few hiccups. There was a miscommunication on availability initially. We moved from California to Nevada and I felt somewhat comfortable working with Colonial Van Lines, but most moving companies misquote. They can hold your stuff hostage and get double what they said. I tried to go with a company that had better reviews, which aren’t necessarily good reviews. There just weren’t as many bad ones. They did the estimate over the phone. I told them the size of the house we were moving from and they took a guess based on what I described and how many boxes they thought I needed. Originally, they quoted about 5,000 pounds, but it ended up being a little over 9,000. It was a really bad misquote. Also, the first guy told me that he was gonna be my guy from start to finish, but then, I got multiple phone calls from about six different people. They bounced me around from different places. I was satisfied with my stuff getting here, but I was dissatisfied with how poorly the whole process went.

Everything went fairly fine in my experience with Colonial Van Lines except for a little bit of a problem on scheduling. On the front end, they told us they would call us within 48 hours to let us know when they would be coming. We ended up having to call them to find out when they were coming. I had to keep calling to ask, "Exactly what time do you think you'll be here?" and everything. Then on the back end, the timing of delivery kept getting changed as far as, "We will be there in so many hours." So, the part of the scheduling pace of when they were gonna show up kept getting pushed and they may not have realized exactly how far it was from where they were coming. But otherwise, the guy in-charge, Jeff, did a beautiful job. He kept us informed and said, "This is what I need you to do. Tell the people where to put things, tell people what you want." So, that went very well.
Another thing was, it threw us that they were using Penske trucks and we weren't prepared that they were using rental trucks. We've moved before and had movers so this time was just different. It's not a big deal, but it just went, "Oh. So this guy rents his own rent trucks and then he does it." It's like he's on his own kind of thing. We didn't realize that when we first started, which is not a big deal, so we were, "Oh, okay." Still, the cost was great, and that was the reason we went with them. It was better cost all the way around. Even with the storage and everything, the pricing was very good.

It was kind of a rush deal because they had given me a three-day window. I called the electric company and I had them shut off the next day, right after the three-day window. But then Colonial said that they didn’t have anything coming during that window, and I might have to wait. But I didn’t wanna wait, so they called back and said they got one but it was gonna be there in two hours. So I didn’t have a lot of preparation time. I could have been a lot more ready. But it was better than not getting in that window. So it worked out.
I was given the address for the storage unit, but it wasn’t a physical address. It was the guy’s house. I checked it out three days before Colonial got here, and I called them and gave them the right address. But they never got that call, and they never got the right address. They called me from the guy’s house. I don’t know how that ball got dropped. Because I called in right away and let them know because that’s kind of important. Also, when they did the delivery, they should’ve brought a dolly.

I liked the price that Colonial had and they seemed to know what they were doing. I got a really good guy as my rep and he really did well. He needs a raise. The service and the expectations he set were really good. Everything went well with Colonial. The only thing that was not okay was the fact that they sent a semi van when they should have sent a box strip. Our apartment wasn’t accessible by a semi so they had to rent a shuttle and tried charging us 400 bucks. I seeded it and they faxed it off and refunded me. Once that was done, everything was 100% fine. Also, my rep said that there wasn’t supposed to be a semi van. When I told him there was and I got charged for the shuttle, he made sure I didn’t get charged in the end.

From a $3k quote to a final $13k bill, these have to be the biggest cheats I've ever worked with. They have to find/address missing items on final delivery as well. My brother used them too and had a similar experience where his wife fell out of their truck and was considering suing. Ridiculous.
Nikesh,
It was so nice to work on this resolution with you, I appreciate your patience and everything in the matter.

Colonial Van Lines gave me a good price and they asked more thorough questions. They told me a time when they would be at the storage unit, but I hadn't relocated yet so I told my dad that time. He took the whole day off of work to meet them but they had overslept, so he had to wait a lot longer. Other than that, my dad said that the two guys were nice. My stuff is still in storage, but everything from packing and moving and placing my stuff in the storage went fine.

Colonial Lines was very professional and they did everything through what I would’ve assumed was normal procedures. Talking with the coordinator was fine. However, they’re used to dealing with one individual moving their stuff. There were two parties in my case ‘cause I was moving my parents in from out-of-state down here to Columbia, Tennessee. In some cases, they ended up calling me when they needed to call my dad. I said, “I can’t answer that question ‘cause I’m not there.” And they said, “Oh, okay. Well, we’ll give them a call.” So, they kept in touch with me and kept me informed.
The only odd thing was I wasn’t aware that the drivers had to have cash and that for some reason they couldn’t take any debit, credit or check. But I was able to get them the cash they needed and everything else was great. They came in and delivered the stuff, and they put things where we asked them to put them. They went above and beyond to make sure that everything was put in the house. I would rather pay one company and they would pay the individual contractors that they hire, but that did not occur in this case. Still, everything went well and they did a great job.

We were looking at PODS and then we decided we couldn't do it. I found Colonial online and they were on a list of different companies that we were gonna call. I was gonna do a couple more checks on other companies, but Colonial's price sounded reasonable when we called them. What I'm comparing the cost to is the $5,000 that a friend of mine spent when she moved across within our old town. So, when they said it was 7,000 to move across the country, we thought, "Well, then that's pretty reasonable." And compared to PODS, it was $1,000 more and we'd be doing all the work. In hindsight, maybe we should have checked a couple other companies. But we went with them since we were at a point where we just wanted to get it done.
The two guys who came and picked up all our belongings were very polite and respectful. They packed fine and they were very efficient when they dropped the stuff off. My one complaint was when the truck left and we were also on the road driving from Wisconsin to Colorado, they called us 6 times. They were calling us so much about checking on how things were and just reminding us that we had gone over the estimated weight so it was gonna cost more. It got to be a nuisance and it was like, "Yeah, we got that." After the sixth time, we said, "Enough already. We're driving, you know." Other than that, we were fine with everything else.

Updated on 1/28/2020: I used Colonial Van Lines a few months ago to move some household goods from New Jersey to Ohio. Upon delivery, some of my furniture was damaged. I filed a claim and they did resolve this problem satisfactorily. Therefore, I am giving Colonial a five star rating because they went all out to process the claim for me and apologized numerous times for the damages. Now I would recommend them. In fact, when I ship the rest of my household possessions I will call Colonial.
Original Review: I did a little bit of research online and found out that Colonial Van Lines was pretty good. However, it didn’t mention damage so much to your furniture. The two guys who packed up my stuff didn’t do a very good job and it arrived in pretty bad shape. And they broke a lamp. Totally shattered. Also, there was a big gouge out of my dry sink and my couch and the loveseat has to be replaced. It’s bad. They dragged it across cement, and just completely ruined it on one side of each one.
The guys did put blankets on my items, but not a very good job of blanketing or preparing them. One gentleman was in the truck trying to make room for my things. Their truck wasn’t big enough to hold what I had to send, even though it wasn’t a lot. They had other things in their truck. So, the one remaining gentleman who was preparing my furniture was taking a lot of my stuff out the door and out to the truck alone. He didn’t have help and that was where the trouble was. If two would have carried out my couch and my loveseat, nothing would have happened, but he dragged them, trying to get them out by himself, to put on the truck. Two different guys who really knew what they were doing said that if they had packed us up, this would not have happened, and I believe them.
Colonial apparently hired the guys. They’re out of New York. I guess that’s who will get the claim, if it goes to the right people. The driver who delivered my furniture did take pictures and sent it to his boss. I filed a formal claim with pictures and descriptions and have heard nothing. They were wonderful in the beginning. They kept me apprised of every move that was made. They were very, very good. But now, they just dropped the ball totally. I have another load to take and they were supposed to take it, but I’m dragging my feet about even asking them to take it.

I needed to move one piece of antique furniture from Florida to Pennsylvania. I contacted one moving company that was a whole lot less expensive and then I thought that it was not a good way to go about it. I can't just look at it from how much it's gonna cost. I looked up the company online and they broke everything in the truck. And the timing was all bad and they didn't do things right. And then, I went online and searched what would be the highest recommended company and it came up with Colonial Van Lines. Nicolas, my contact person, was very confident and was very easy to understand. I was just moving one piece of furniture and he had to read through a lot of different things about packing up a whole house. It was a little bit amusing because this was a very different situation than what they would normally do.
The delivery went very well. One of the problems that I noticed when I looked at different things about the company online was that all the people that I talked with within the company were very specific about what customer expectation should be, and it seemed to me that a lot of the negative comments about the company were people who were given the same information, but they chose not to accept it. I was very clearly given a pick-up date range of 7 to 10 days, with notification, 24 to 48 hours prior to the actual pick-up. And there were some people that wrote things like, "I had to move on October 14, and they didn't show up." But that was not how they explained things to me.
For the delivery time, they took the dates of the actual pick-up, plus about 7 business days. So, it was a big time span that we had. I was impressed because they came and picked up as scheduled. And that was when there was a big snowstorm coming through in the northeast area and they missed their first delivery day. But the second one, they called and made contact with the people, and they were able to comply with that. They were very consistent about staying in touch with me and with the people who were receiving the desk in Pittsburgh. Everything was fine.
It was surprising to see that people were saying things like they had to have a pick-up on a specific date and a delivery on a specific date. And then, they were all mad and upset because their expectations weren't met, when the company didn't give them false expectations to begin with. People get something in their minds that they are determined that things are gonna happen exactly the way they want them to. And even as the company explained things to people in detail, they didn't know because their preconceived notions were already set that they were not able to accept this other thing is right.

Initially given a two-day pickup and delivery window. (Wed-Thurs pickup). Notified 1st time Mon that pickup would be am Thurs. Notified 2nd time on am Wed it would be evening of Thurs. Notified 3rd time on Thurs that it would be Fri am. The mover actually showed up at 2pm Friday and took over 5 hours to load with a 2 man crew (Driver sat in cab). They were supposed to also pack, but we ended up packing everything and helping load. We also ended up helping unload with same two man crew after driving to new state during middle of the night. Lost time at work due to Colonial failing to work with a good crew who could handle our business.
Was told by account manager that they were working on trying to compensate us after we would pay the full amount. We were in a bind and just wanted our stuff delivered so we unfortunately paid. We wanted the nightmare to end. After contacting account manager three times in a week and a half after the delivery, he has still not called us back to know the status of our possible compensation. I will never use Colonial again and would highly NOT recommend using them.

Everything was pretty good in the beginning. The only problem I had a little bit was with communication when the movers were gonna be there. I didn’t know when they were coming. I was in Missouri and the pick up was in Tennessee. It’s an eight-hour ride and I ended up wasting a day because I went up there a day early because they couldn’t nail it down within two days. It took more than two days of when it was gonna be. So that was a little inconvenient. It wasn’t that bad. I still had to go up there anyway. But I ended up having to pay for a hotel for an extra day. Their stuff was all packed up at the house and there was nowhere to sleep. But other than that, it was pretty good.
When it was time for me to pay, I had to call a few times to give my money away, and to get somebody to call me back. I also sent a couple of emails. The first time that they called me, I was in Belize, and then I sent them the email to tell them that I would call or email them when I got back to settle it up. But there was no response. When I spoke with somebody at Colonial, they were good and friendly. The movers were good as well. They were nice and pleasant. They came, hit it, and got it. It was my daughter-in-law’s first time to move. I was glad I was there because she would not have been prepared. She’s young and never did anything like this before. So on one hand, I’m glad that I went up there the day before, but on the other hand, had she been ready, it would’ve been an inconvenience.

I was moving across the country and when I was first starting my search for a moving company, I filled out a form on some website and kind of instantly got bombarded by a lot of moving companies. Those self-move companies where they drop off a pod or a container and you put your stuff in it were the cheapest. Colonial Van Lines was just a few hundred dollars more, and it was the full service with labor and everything included. So the price was pretty much acceptable.
The coordinator from Colonial was really friendly and helpful and the movers were good, too. The driver was adamant that he would drop off my stuff the following Monday. He sounded like 1,000% sure, but it ended up not showing up until a few days later than that. It would be better if they didn’t sound so sure about it if it wasn’t 100% guaranteed. I also had a couple of small items that went missing that I, unfortunately, never heard back about. But aside from that, it was a good experience. They met my expectations and did everything I wanted them to do.

I was looking for someone that moves from New York to Florida. At the time, I had a month to move down and at first, Colonial couldn't, but they said they would do it for me. They said they had to move stuff around to get me down there. But the last time, the second time, they held the furniture for over a month, almost two months. Down in Florida, the housing authority is a lot slower, than New York, and Colonial helped me out no matter what.
Everything went fine. They were always good. It was the second time I used them. Nothing got broken and they were on time. They did everything they were supposed to. They kept in contact with me at all times. I had liked four different people from that place calling me at all times, making sure everything was going right. On the way down the second time, they had to rent a different company because it was small room and they only had big trucks. So, they rented another company to get my other half down here. They went overboard. The only thing is I don't pack in boxes. I pack in totes. Like Sam's, they got these black totes with the yellow tops, you could put 100 pounds on them and nothing breaks in them. So, I have tons of them, which I sent 30 of them, back up to New York for my girlfriend. She's gonna be coming down using Colonial Van Lines too.

Colonial Van Lines was the only one that gave me a quote. But the quote was really different, with 50% different from what I actually pay at the end, so there was a bit of an issue. Colonial should make sure though that the inventory is done properly. Because everything is done over the phone, they don’t really see what you have, and that’s why there is a price difference. But I really don’t have any option so I had to go with them. They already had my information from a previous move, and so, we basically just updated the quote. My move was across the country, from Louisiana to Washington, which took 12 days. The movers were fast and they packed the house in a couple of hours. Unpacking or unloading was just as fast as loading. It took a little bit for them to get here, but of course, it was very far away.

Their director of customer relations asked for my feedback after I got asked for feedback by his underling, and which was after I got asked for feedback by somebody else. I have given them so much feedback already and at this point, maybe less customer touches and less asking me for feedback when the service is done would probably be the best thing.
The director of customer relations said, “Yeah, we do try to balance that, but we have heard that before.” I told him that I literally got called every 3 days leading up to my move asking and telling me details. I also said, “Dude, I get it. I’m moving. If I have any questions, I will call you. Please, for the love of god.” Now, I’m on some sort of a sick joke where I'm on a spam phone call list where people are gonna call me every week and ask me how my experience was going. At first, the experience with Colonial Van Lines was a little shaky. I contracted them, signed an agreement and got the estimated quote over the phone. The first quote that was given to me was $3,800. It’s good for them to come out and look at what we got and then give a quote instead of giving an estimate over the phone, because they can forget things or they could have more than they think.
Colonial subbed the moving service to the movers and when they came, they wanted me to sign another contract and wanted to charge me $1,000 more. I wound up paying $4,800. I said, “I've already signed a contract with Colonial Van Lines paying this much. I won’t break this agreement and you can't do that to people” If you have a contract with somebody and they sub the service out, that’s up to them. I shouldn’t have to pay more. In the end, it all worked out. They didn’t charge me anymore. It was a bit tough because I had a really bad ear infection at that time. I was down at Fort Lauderdale, which is eight hours away to Georgia where I live now. I'm just thankful that I got packed up and everything got moved in storage. It was a learning experience.
Everybody has been very pleasant. They called me and checked on me afterwards. The experience was just a bit more than what I had anticipated in the beginning. It did make things a bit more stressful because the night that they were finishing, I was so sick that I had to go to the hotel and lay down. They kept wanting me to come back and sign a contract. I couldn't even stand up so my friend, Gerald, finally went over there and signed it for me. The movers left a bunch of stuff. They should have cleaned it up. But I got somebody to come in and clean the house up afterwards.

But they didn’t get there ‘til 4:30 PM, which made for a very late night and we didn’t get out from the packing up ‘til 11:30 at night. I don't think they were in sync with dispatch at all. Also, it costed us an extra hotel room ‘cause we were driving down to South Carolina.
On the other hand, the Colonial people were very friendly and very polite. They did their work and they worked very hard. First, they sell you contract to other moving companies. You think you are working with 1 company and it turns out it is a totally different company actually shipping your stuff. Then when there are issues, they are completely clueless as they are not actually doing any shipping. They have to call the other company to get answers. Further, they lie about how quick and efficient their process is. Since they can't control it since it is all done by third party shippers, they have no clue how long anything will take. You are better of using a Pod or just getting a Uhaul. I wish I could turn back time and re-plan my entire move. What I was told would only take 1 week to get my stuff is now at 2-3 weeks before it will be delivered.

This group is a joke. They allow their "franchises" to commit fraud and then tell you that they have no responsibility. Examples, they showed up with no packing materials - literally none for a paid pack out move, with two guys one of which had never been on a pack job before and then am charging me more than double for the move as I'm suppose to pay for their time and effort to go to Home Depot and buy boxes at retail and their inexperience. They broke multiple things. They are claiming the weight is more than 1.5 times the move that happened two years prior, even though I'm moving less stuff. And what they did move was broken. They have no morals, will call you at least 8 times a day from a "QA perspective" because their systems are horrible and there is no ability for them to actually know what you hired them for and then try and charge you double. Do not hire.

The customer service was really good at the start. But my experience with the moving coordinator wasn't that good. I didn't even know when they were going to pick up my stuff. And then they tried to push back another day the timeframe they told me they were gonna pick up my stuff. But we had plans to move the day before. So they finally got someone out there in the afternoon and was able to do that, but it was kind of stressful. The problem was that there was no communication whatsoever. I had to call them the day before my move and make sure that it was still on track. And then they told me they were not gonna be able to move us until the next day. I kinda threw a little fit, and then they told me they could get someone out there for me.
We had packers come in and pack everything. They were great. The quote they provided was about $300 off because the packing ended up costing more. But the final price was okay. When they did the delivery, there was a few breakages, like my TV stand was broken. And then, the truck said that there was nothing they could do and that they wouldn't reimburse us for it. But the guy took it on the truck with him to take it to the warehouse. And then someone called me and told me that if there was any breakages, I could take pictures of it and then I could file a claim. But I didn't have the TV stand anymore, so I couldn't take pictures of it and file a claim. That was kind of an issue. But everything else was okay.

The only downfall was there was one day when our stuff was supposed to arrive, where the phone number didn’t work. It just kept ringing and said, “Out of service,” which was a little concerning. That was for the full day.
And then we weren’t told that because there wasn’t enough movers in the area, that it would be through a separate van line. I thought it was gonna be the same people. So it wasn’t even Colonial that picked up our stuff. That was a little annoying. We were told they were gonna come at 8:00 AM, and someone else called me and said it was gonna be 4:00 PM. And then another person told me 12:00. I called, and said I just need to know what time I need to be home, and that was the day we found out the number was disconnected for the day. There seems a lot of hands. We had three reps, which was a little confusing. We were told something through one person that called me. And then another person would be like, “Oh no. I’m your person.” I was like, “Oh, okay.” And then I have to do the same thing over again, like describe my items. I did that three different times. I know that they wanted to make sure that it was accurate, but it was just weird.

We're military and we retired here in Texas but some of my belongings were in Maryland. My mom was housing them. So once we reached the end of our duty, we had the movers go over there, collect my belongings and then relocate them back here to Texas. Everything was there and the team that delivered was awesome.
At the beginning, the guy at Colonial Van Lines was also very friendly and kind. He just listened to what I needed and he provided me information such that I felt like, “Okay, let's see.” Then after we went through what it all entails, he made me feel like he was gonna take care of me. However, we went through some issues with the pickup. There were some communication issues but the person wasn't rude. I think he was just busy. He was talking really fast and I didn’t understand what he was saying. I asked him to slow down and go through the list with me. But whatever information that was given to him wasn’t correct at first. They were going to load something in the truck that I didn’t want there but it ended up working out anyway.
I just misunderstood some things but when I referred back to the guy at Colonial, he was always able to explain it to me and reassure me that at the end of the day, my stuff was gonna be taken care of and that they were there to provide a service for me. It also didn’t change anything with the price or with what we had initially talked about before. The only thing that was a little bit hard was trying to reach the call center, the people who were handling the financial part. I felt that I was being disheveled here and there a little bit but the lady was absolutely professional. She had great customer service skills. It was hard trying to get a hold of her but I realized after I spoke to her, she was just busy handling a lot of other customers.
Thanks for the review Isabel!

I was moving out of state because of work. Colonial Van Lines' marketing made me choose them over other moving companies, and the fact that they were a slightly bigger van line. Their coordinators were good. However, the quote that I got from them was almost 40% higher than what I actually wound up paying. But I heard that it was common among all moving companies. We, as consumers, tend to under guess how much stuff we have. Also, there was trouble with their scheduling. They lost my schedule for a couple of days and I missed work because I was hanging out at the house waiting for somebody to show up. That was such a pain. But overall, I got back on the phone with them and they set me up two days later. I expected goof-ups in anything this day and age. It happens. But they did a good job. The pick up guy and the drop off guy were great.

It could not have been worse if I had to move the stuff myself. I just had these guys move me from Jersey to Texas. Where should I start?
a) They did the ole bait and switch by underestimating by 40% the weight even after I walked every room with the estimator and even made sure to be conservative. $4,000 more than the quote/estimate. I know most companies do this to some extent to get you to sign, but this was insane. But, believe it or not it gets much worse:
b) They hired some outfit from LA to do the actual packing/moving. Lovely. The packers could not speak or understand English, so the packing sucked and many things were just all mixed up in the 100 boxes! IT WILL TAKE US MONTHS TO FIND OUR STUFF. Good thing I brought some clothes!
c) They brought about a ton of stuff that I didn't intend to take. My wife was there as I had already gone to Texas. She couldn't communicate with them either and it got ugly. But it gets even worse;
d) Colonial advised that I could only use Visa/MC for the deal which was OK by me. Unfortunately, my wife didn't know this and when they asked for money she pulled AMEX which we use wherever possible. Well, the driver took AMEX. Of course I got the alert from AMEX, but when I checked to see who it was it was charged to some tax fixer CPA in LA whose website made no mention of them running a moving business too. SO, being that I'm moving and a lot of people got my credit card, I assumed that someone was scamming me and I cancelled the transaction.
So WOW, the owner of the company was pissed and not nice on the phone when he saw it cancelled. He then proceeded to require that I show up with a CASHIERS check even after I explained it all. VERY LUCKY that I had enough cash to do pay it or I wouldn't have my stuff. Dude was insulting on the phone. But it gets even worse if you can believe it!;
d) They failed to bring everything. Left out a part of a bed rendering it useless, Left out a recliner chair with the explanation that the truck was full! Left out about two wardrobes full of my wife's clothes. I still have almost NO CLUE what else they left out. My realtor says there's still stuff all over the place in my old house. A TON of $$$ it will require to replace everything and to have all the stuff removed from my old house. They say their going back for the stuff in a couple of days, but I've not heard from them and the coordinator knows nothing about it I'm going to be out at least $1,000!!!
d) And the worst part. The packers failed to label over 100 boxes and essentially boxed our things randomly. WE not have over 100 boxes in the master bedroom and garage! We have zero idea what's in them. Oh and much of the heavy furniture is in the wrong rooms as well. Again a function of them not being able to understand me. The driver actually spoke English but he made no effort to help out with the translation. Just sat outside the truck and watched. I should be getting a refund on the packing piece because it is WORTHLESS! I have no idea what they've broken beyond what I've found so far.
I spoke to the dispatcher who basically told me that since the move had been done that we're on our own with the actual movers. Nothing. No response. No nothing. I've contacted my "moving coordinator" and supervisor with all these issues in detail. They haven't responded. I have no expectation they will respond at this point. They have their brokerage money and appear to be moving on to the next VICTIM.
This cannot be an isolated incident. I hope you will heed this warning and go with a trusted name like Mayflower etc. DO NOT RISK THIS HAPPENING TO YOU when moving out of state. I'm beyond upset with this and NO ONE needs yet another stressful thing when moving their family. There's a mountain of things to take care of when doing it and your mover should NEVER screw up like this. Good luck if you hire these guys. You've been warned...

We moved in April. We were not informed that we would be sharing a moving van, and I do not believe we were charged for a shared load, but for a single load on the truck. The mover’s family consisting of his wife and children loaded the truck. It took 12 days for the truck to finally arrive. Granted it was raining, but the movers, two adults and some young people (the mover’s kids) brought in my boxes and items so quickly that I had no time to mark anything off. No one even asked me if I wanted to do that. We had a very large load and I was overwhelmed as boxes came flying into the garage and house. When they were done the driver wanted to leave and shoved the paperwork for me to sign and make my payment. Well, two months later, as I’m finally getting through all the boxes (hundreds), I discover at least three items are missing. At that time I wrote a letter and opened a case.
Today I was told the case was denied because I didn’t call (apparently a letter was the wrong thing) and because I signed the paperwork not noting that boxes were missing. When I spoke to a representative, Haviah, she was very sympathetic and promised she would do what she could to help me. But I didn’t think it was asking too much, when I had paid close to $15,000 to move my personal property from point A to point B and get it all there. I will certainly never recommend let alone use Colonial Van Lines or any of their subcontracted movers again.
Thank you Melissa for allowing us to work on a positive resolution with you! We appreciate the opportunity!

Everything went well with Colonial Van Lines. We had some hiccups with the truck that they sent, but they were kind and worked with us to get everything up here. Based on our estimates as well as the gentleman that came out and estimated the materials we had to move, the truck that they sent was way too small, so we were not able to move everything with a single move. We ended up trying to re-book with Colonial to bring what was in the storage building and what was left at the apartment. And they were unable to pick up on the day that they said.
I ended up flying back home to try to be there whenever they said that they were gonna be able to pick up the second load. They were unable to be there, so they pushed us from Wednesday to Monday. And then, on Monday, the gentleman that was supposed to pick us up got sick, and so they were unable to pick up again. We ended up just reaching out to another company that finally did pick up and move our second load up here.
Financially and emotionally, it took a toll on us. Certainly, from a customer service perspective, they said the right things. But it’s very difficult to understand their part to be able to use people that they contract with out in the field. But the gentleman who came and did a poor job on estimating the load was very nice. They were kind and the two gentlemen that did the original move truly were superstars. They tried to get as much on the truck as they could. They followed up with us and kept in touch with us, but they weren’t able to get it done. So, it was very frustrating. I’ve already shared it directly with Colonial. And other people who are going to be moving also need to be aware of the limitations of the company.

I got a new job in Tampa, so I had to move. Colonial Van Lines gave me a good price. It's a big company and they do a lot of moves every year. Also, they told me that they have quality assurance so I went with them. Everything went okay with the moving coordinator. I had all the information I needed, so I received my items. The only drawback was after the move, I wanted to have an invoice for reimbursement purposes, and I waited two weeks to receive that which was a long time. I wanted to have my money back because my company was reimbursing me for the move. It was hard to reach the account manager sometimes, that was why I waited two weeks and I had to escalate my service request to the director of quality assurance. We had communication issues, but apart from that, they did their job. I received all the items with nothing broken and everything in place. The experience was okay, but it could be better.

And the coordination on schedule and timing went very well. The movers came and had everything packed up within a couple of hours. And then, they arrived at my new location the next day. So, it was an easy and very enjoyable experience. Everything went well with them.

I was getting ready to move. We lived in Oklahoma City and I said, “We gotta get somebody.” And so, I looked in a phonebook and picked Colonial Van Lines. My interactions with the coordinator was super good. At first, I was very nervous. I noticed there was a truck that might’ve been a little late and I got worried. I called and I was told, “Don’t worry. He’ll be there.” And they were right. The truck driver was really outstanding. He said, “We’ll make it.” He had trouble once. We moved from Oklahoma City to a place in the middle of nowhere in the Panhandle of Texas. He had a little trouble getting help here, but he found it. We live about 70 miles from Amarillo and he got help out of Amarillo. They even had a flat and he said, “Everything’s fine. It’s just one of those things.” He was good. The move was very, very smooth. I had a very good experience.

I had a change in employment so I did a moving quote estimate. I went to Moving.com and put in the information that I needed to get multiple quotes, and Colonial Van Lines was the quickest to respond. My interaction with the moving coordinator was good. The quote had to be re-estimated upwards a few times, but that was mostly our fault for underestimating the amount of stuff. Other than that, the process was seamless. They did a good job on the estimate. The only really disappointing thing was they had a separate treadmill service for disassembling and moving a treadmill and then reassembling it, because it was an additional charge and we paid for that. And then, the guys weren’t able to get it broken down, didn't have room in the truck, and we had to leave it behind. They refunded the $120 charge, but not the $1,400 treadmill that we are gonna replace.
Their reps were thorough. Everything that they said was done and they communicated well throughout the process. They should improve on the treadmill and estimating the truck size a bit more appropriately because our stuff was smooshed into that truck to make it all fit. There were some damage. One leather chair got ripped and a small tear. And then, all the wood furniture varnish was rubbed off in some way, shape, or form. Not big, but every piece of wood furniture had some visible something.

I don't think it would be possible to make a moving experience any worse than Colonial Van Lines is making my interstate move. If you're considering doing business with Colonial Van Lines, please don't, but if you do, know you will not get Colonial Van Lines movers, storage, trucks, etc. All you're getting from Colonial Van Lines are elevated fees and a customer service desk to call into when things don't go as planned. When you do call in, and you will have to call, that service desk won't be able to help, and won't have any information; again, when you hire Colonial Van Lines you're not getting Colonial Van Lines movers, storage, trucks, etc. Colonial Van Lines is charging you an elevated rate, taking your money, and hiring low end Budget Movers.
Regarding pick up, Budget Movers, not the Colonial Van Lines company we hired, missed the first pick up day, with no update regarding the delay. They didn't actually show up until the sun was going down (for real, evening rush hour) on the last day of their scheduled pick up window. With the truck, came a bunch of completely random unaffiliated, uninsured, unlicensed day labors. They were extremely rough with our things, often letting things crash to the floor right in front of us. They claimed to be "done" when there were things left in the house still waiting to be moved/loaded onto their truck. So on and so forth. Horrible and extremely worrisome.
When it comes to your delivery, Colonial Van Lines will call you on Saturday and tell you your delivery is coming on Monday. You take Monday off from work, but Monday comes and goes with no delivery, or calls from Colonial Van Lines, so you call them Monday night and get told the Budget Movers truck's brakes went out (with my stuff on it!) and the delivery is now coming Tuesday. You ask where your belongings are, were they damaged during the catastrophic brake failure? Colonial Van Lines "doesn't think" your stuff was damaged, and they're not sure where your stuff is. It may be in a lot where the brakes are getting fixed, or the trailer could be in a parking lot someplace. They don't really know. They're not even sure what state the truck is in. They don't seem to care, and imply you're being unreasonable asking these questions.
Regardless, you take Tuesday off from work based off Colonial Van Lines refreshed delivery date, but just like Monday, Tuesday comes and goes with no delivery, or update from Colonial Van Lines, so again you call Colonial Van Lines, and again they don't have any information, but the new delivery is now Thursday. You ask if the truck's brakes are fixed. Colonial Van Lines doesn't know. You ask where your stuff is being stored. Colonial Van Lines doesn't know. You ask why they requested you take two full days off of work to sit around waiting for promised deliveries, with no update letting you know the deliveries were going to be missed? Colonial Van Lines doesn't know, nor do they care.
They still don't know the state of the truck, its brakes, or your belongings. It's not their truck, driver, dispatch center, etc. Why would they care. They just want your money, and hired you Budget Movers with a very small portion of it. Your money means nothing to Colonial Van Lines. Your time means nothing to Colonial Van Lines. Knowing where your stuff is, the state of the moving van carrying your things, where your things are being stored, what day your things will truly be delivered, Colonial Van Lines doesn't care about any of that. Period.
That said, if you're the type of person who wants to know who'll be handling your things, what mover your things will actually be with, where your things are being stored, if the truck moving your things is roadworthy, or when you can expect delivery of your belongings, then Colonial Van Lines is definitely not for you. I couldn't regret the decision to hire Colonial Van Lines any more than I do. Working with them is truly a nightmare. Colonial Van Lines is horrible!

My dates of travel was accepted by Colonial Van Lines' services. So, I went with them. My interaction with the moving coordinator was very good and the account manager who assisted me did a really good job. They initially told me that they would give me the empty truck weight without the luggage, and after loading my luggage they would show me the truck weight again. But I did not see both of them and I cannot guarantee whether the price they have me was accurate or not. Also, one table and one bookshelf got broken out. But I did not file a claim for them and I didn’t want to follow up. It’s a small table and I ignored that.
Other than that, they gave me two days, from 23rd and 24th, for the pick-up date. But on the morning of the 22nd, they told me that they would be coming to pick up my stuff that evening at 5 o'clock. They gave me just four hours to prepare, so within that period, I packed everything. But that is not acceptable at that time. They mentioned that it was the only time that their vehicle was available and I made my arrangements within those four hours. Still, they should have given me 24-hours notice.

Carlos was the driver and he was amazing. Both crews in New York and Florida were great. They were extremely helpful, got here when they said they were gonna be, and they went above and beyond. It was crazy trying to figure out who we were gonna go with, and going with them was a good choice. I cannot believe how close they were to doing exactly the weights. We had a recommendation from someone who had used Colonial and felt like it was a little more economical. We went with them too for our move. We wanted to get closer to our daughter. Although Colonial ended up being a little more expensive than we thought, everything went fine. I kind of figured some of the reasons out. Originally, the rep did all the estimates online. I got rid of a lot of stuff, but there was also stuff in the attic.
During the move, we felt we were very prepared. But in the end, we probably would have packaged differently had we known. I just marked numbers and what rooms they were. But I wish that if we are packing ourselves, they would give us a heads up on how they want things packed so in the end, it wouldn’t take them longer to kind of redo things. It’s like bedroom 1, bedroom 2, bedroom 3 then we could have packed to match that. Other than that, I had a good account manager who assisted me during the move.
Thanks for feedback Mrs. White!

We've read about Colonial on the internet and so we called, got a quote and it seemed reasonable. We boxed up the small materials. We moved from Paducah, Kentucky to The Villages in Florida, and I moved most of that myself. Colonial moved the furniture and they did a pretty good job. They packaged it good and the driver was a good guy. We didn’t have any damage so it was a really good move.
I only have two issues. Number one is we were quoted a certain weight and the weight of our stuff came in significantly lower. The understanding was it was 60 or 65 pounds for each extra pound and nobody said anything about the sliding scale so we came in less. Instead of getting credit for 65 cents a pound, we got credit for 30 some, and that wasn’t clearly explained upfront. So, that was negative for me. Another thing was that we got contacted by four or five different guys. There was the initial salesperson, then a quality person, then a scheduler, and it just got to be a little bit too much. I know they were trying to do a good job and follow up, but it's tough if you bounce between a scheduler and a packer and a QA person. If we would have had one contact, it would have made life a lot easier. That would help us would be an improvement for what we've been.

But we had a few issues because we moved rather rapidly. There was a short time period between the time we made our contract and the time we had our stuff to move. We had difficulty contacting the coordinator and some of that issue had to do with the fact that we were trying to make contact over weekends. But when we called the help center, they were excellent. If I had a problem, they contacted the people necessary and got back to me. We weren’t sure what would ship and what wouldn’t ship, and we were fairly well-informed. I would use Colonial again. They were very reliable and I was very satisfied with them. I had concerns because they subcontract but the company that they subcontracted the move to was very good too.

My moving experience was good. The drivers (Sonny & Joe) were very professional as were there local crews on both ends. There was one broken picture glass (out of 80 framed pieces of art) and it wasn't worth bringing up. My only challenge was with the scheduling. The pickup in Maryland was within the contracted window, but I only got hours notice of the exact pick-up. They were later than the window for the delivery in Nevada and I was hard-pressed to get any information about the actual delivery during the 10-day window. I have moved cross country five times in the past 30 years and, in my experience with Allied, North American, and United (selected by my employers) both windows were much smaller and progress was better communicated. All in all, a good experience.

When I looked on the internet at Colonial's ratings, they were less horrible than most of the other companies. And when I called them, the person that I talked to was very willing to have an honest conversation, and give me reasonable prices, which were not so low that I knew that there’d be a lot of add-ons. They were very willing to work with me. It was smooth as smooth can go. And the team that actually moved me were phenomenal. There were three people who packed and moved stuff out. I had everything packed and boxed except for some specific stuff that they were supposed to pack. They told me that they would do all that and I could just relax. They didn't expect me to be doing anything different, like carrying boxes with them. They were courteous and quick. They kept a reasonable timeline. They kept me informed about what they were doing.
Even though it was a couple hundred-mile move, they wound up being the team who brought the stuff to my place and again, they were very courteous and very organized. I told them where I wanted it to put items, and they checked with me before they left if there was anything else I needed. They were fine. Colonial gave me an estimate and they were very honest about how it would change a little bit depending on the weight. Everyone that I talked to said it was just an estimate, and the price could go up if I had more things than I had put on my estimate or if things weighed more. So they worked with the weight and my actual cost was slightly more than the estimate, but not very much more. Also, they were right on with the time frame.

Colonial Van Lines picked up my items... A curio 2 televisions and 63 boxes (mostly clothes and shoes) on October 29, 2019. I haven't seen it, my final billing amount or the driver since. To be fair, they did say that my items would be delivered between November 7th and November 14th. This is November 14th. I am now being told that, oh, it may be the weekend. Also, the driver will not feel comfortable driving the 18 wheeler on our street. An 18 wheeler that I have never seen, so before he gets here we are being told that we would have to pay for a $300 shuttle once it arrives to Indiana. No! Show me the 18 wheeler!
According to, Anthony, who sold me on Colonial Van Lines, our things were to be loaded onto colonial Van lines truck and NEVER taken off. That was a lie. That was a feature that I was definitely adamant about. The driver never notified us of their impending initial arrival in Oakland and showed up in a Uhaul truck. We were still packing and had to ship many more items via UPS because they did not make the truck.
After numerous phone calls and requesting of the weight and threatening to take our complaints higher, ALL OF A SUDDEN they have the paperwork detailing the weight and final amount our bill would be. After constantly telling me that the paperwork had not been received by the driver, even 2 minutes prior to another agent changing that story and telling me that the paperwork had been suddenly received. This was on November 14th, 2019 too. The contract is for the minimum amount that they would book for...$2,000.
The move IS from Oakland, Ca to Fishers, Indiana. The driver gave us an estimate of $3,800 before he left the home and BEFORE he weighed our items, but AFTER they had loaded the truck! I'm angry and I am feeling scammed. The entire operation seems disjointed and not working the way it should be working while handling people's property. I am disappointed, and very, very upset with Colonial Van Lines. This will not be my last review. I'll save those for when I ACTUALLY receive my items.

I called Colonial first and then we were put in touch with Lauren. She was very, very professional, and really seemed to know her stuff. She asked a lot of good questions and what we were moving. We were moving odd things like ATVs and golf carts, and hunting stuff, like heads of deer. And she was right on it. She really had her act together. So as we talked to other companies, my fiancé told me to call back the gal with Colonial and go with them. And that was what we did.
My fiancé has a farm in Wisconsin that’s over a mile off the road, and it’s going through cornfields and all kinds of odd terrain. We bought a place in Georgia, and we were exiting all the stuff out of the Wisconsin farm to move it to Georgia. So, it was a pretty complex move. The moving coordinator seemed to not be too concerned with any of that and seemed perfectly fine with whatever the conditions may be, and right away said that they could work that out. They would have a shuttle, and they’ll bring the truck in, and have the guys come and do the packing.
The crew was fantastic. They called us in advance, and they got to the house around 7:00 or 7:30 in the morning. They worked steadily and without taking any breaks. Those kids never batted an eye. They just continued packing, packing, and packing. Everything was packed meticulously. So everything that Lauren promised kind of came true. When we finally got our delivery in Georgia, everything was ship-shape. There was not one broken or missing item.
One of the things that we kind of lucked into that was really, really great was the team that packed us had to take the goods to some depot in Chicago. But as luck would have it, they were really, really busy this time of year and the good never left the truck that they were packed on. When we required the delivery to be made in Georgia, one of the original little guys, William, was still with the truck. The other two changed, but they were great too. William remembered what came out of what room. So we were lucky that our stuff was not shifted around an extra time, which was really nice. We loved our first crew, so having little William involved in the second crew was a gift. We loved that.
Mary,
Thank you for the review and for the kind words. I'll be sure to share your feedback with Lauren :)

I went online and chose Colonial. They were recommended and highly-rated. Then I paid extra money to have some specialty done and they did a good job at it. I had an expensive leather couch and chairs and I didn’t want anything to happen to those. They blanket-wrapped all of the living room furniture, tables, and Zen cabinet. I had some large canvass pictures and they had those wrapped and in a box. I did the packing and then I left all that specialty stuff for them.
The only thing that happened was in the beginning, our days got mixed up so I was scrambling at the last minute. Then I didn’t know that they sent a small truck. When they coordinated the time to come out, there was this great big semi-truck and I thought that they unloaded my furniture from that one truck and reloaded it. I was a little surprised. But the movers were super guys. They put the things where I wanted and they really helped. Monica was great as well. It went very smoothly. I had a great experience so I’m happy.

I shall admire the service that Colonial Van Lines provided. The Company is very professional and knows its business. The people I wok with were nice and very knowledgeable. Drexel was very responsive and explained all details. Amara made all efforts to overcome a possible delivery delay. As a result, the pick up and delivery happened the same day, as promised. I shall also mention how nice and professional the truck crew was. Keep on the good work.

When we talked over the phone what stuff I have, Colonial told me the weight should be like 3,000 or 3,200 pounds. But I told them to give me a higher estimate so that I have rough idea where this estimate can go up to maximum. When they came, everything was good. The people who moved were professional. Somebody called me that these people will be coming, and they were on time. They did a good job packing everything and moving my stuff here. But when the move came to Illinois, I have two concerns at that time. There was a dent on the deep freezer, and the table had a scratch on the back. I took a picture, sent it to the coordinator, and she told me she would get back to me.
Another thing was the bill that they made was around 3,500 pounds for the weight. But when the actual weight receipt came, it was 500 pounds lower. They deduct weight for the truck, so it was on the lower side. I told the guy what the initial estimate that we made, so he called the place and he spent about 15 minutes with them. Then he cut the weight that was recorded and that was on the paper, and he put in a higher weight. I told this concern to the team, and they told me somebody gonna call me back. After that, nobody followed up. But I was fine with it. I’m getting my reimbursement, so it doesn’t matter to me.

I had my car moved from Ohio to Arizona and I had the best experience with Colonial Van Lines beginning with Mr. **. He was very helpful. I only wish that I had gone with them for my whole move even though they were more expensive because the company I used for that was miserable to work with. With Colonial, the process took less than a week. The car got there on the day that they said they would, whereas my clothes and my things took a month to get there. Also, Colonial's transportation folks were really good. They were very pleasant, safe, secure, and professional. I would definitely recommend their services to anybody.

I sent emails out to three moving companies and Colonial Van Lines was the first one to respond. Their moving coordinator was very efficient. The expectations set were accurate. They helped me prepare and they organized the items well. Everything was very quick. They took about an hour to load, and less than that to unload. And I had a difficult place to unload it. It was hard to get a truck in the back but they did it.
They were always in touch with me. They'd always call me to let me know where things were. The only hitch was on the pickup day. The driver was supposed to come between 10:00 and 12:00, and he came after 1:00. Normally, that wouldn’t be a problem, but it was from an old folks’ home, and the old folks eat lunch during certain times. It was difficult to negotiate that. But that was a minor concern. Other than that, everything went well.

Colonial Van Lines was the first one that called us back. The rep who assisted us during the move was great. He stayed right on top of things. We were two days behind the truck because we got caught in the flood, which meant that we couldn’t get here so the truck couldn’t deliver, but he kept right on behind us. And so he had to keep going and he came back and delivered for us, and everything was fine. They handled the move as good as they could be done. The rep was very knowledgeable and very thorough. When he said he would call back, he called back. When he said he would call the driver and find out what was going on, he did that. He called us back right away and he kept our stress level down, and so that was great.

I utilized Colonial Van Lines for my move 17 hours across the country from Arkansas to Virginia. I am a 33 year HR Executive so my experience with moving companies has been extensive. My personal experience with Colonial is one of the best ever. My initial communications with Lauren, the staff member responsible for helping establish the initial cost to move, services available, and the schedule of the move were handled in an organized, detailed and professional way. My actual moving staff (Benny ** and Mikal **) were the best I have ever seen. They were also professional, caring, helpful, and truly made me feel like they cared about my things, that they get moved without any damage, and on the schedule that we had set.
I can't tell you how impressed I was with their work ethic - they never stopped except to eat their lunch, and they moved - and I mean moved all day, every hour. They communicated along the way of their progress, and arrived exactly when they said they would. And the unloading experience was as excellent as the loading experience. I recommend these two guys without any hesitation. You would be so lucky to have them. I hope companies that contract with moving companies for the relocation of their team will seriously consider Colonial Van Lines. If they are consistently like my experience, then they can't be beat. And regardless, ask for Benny and Mikal as movers, and Lauren as your initial representative - you truly can't beat that team.
It was great to work for you on this move Don. Thank you for the nice words, I'll share this feedback with the team!

Moved from MN to AZ last October. Thought we had everything arranged but on the day of the move while one man was wrapping furniture the other was filling out paperwork. Then he told me I needed to pay another portion NOW. That was nowhere in my paperwork. I called the gentleman I worked with & he agreed that he never told me that, balance owed was to be paid at time of delivery with a credit card. Mover was not happy. The day of delivery the same mover called me & asked for a partial payment right then, before his office closed. I told him I was going with what had been arranged. So, our delivery shows up, I gave him my Visa card, he comes back with it and tells me it's been declined, he put the numbers in & it declined. I gave him my Discover card & he says he can't take that kind. I called the same man I called on moving day & he told the mover to "TAKE IT". I later called Visa & was told the wrong # was entered. He just wanted cash.
One more thing, I was charged an extra fee on both pickup & delivery because they had to use a smaller truck to get into both areas then had to transfer everything to a larger truck then back to a smaller for delivery. Funny thing, the same smaller truck picked up & delivered. The 2nd man even told my husband how nervous he was in the mountains & that he had never driven to AZ before. So they charged us extra for something that was never done. I would NEVER use them again! Also funny that their system won't let me give less than 3 stars, I was going to do 2 on most things.

When I moved down to South Carolina, I had a different moving company. They were not very good and it took them six weeks to get my merchandise. So, when I was moving from South Carolina to Illinois, I went online and Colonial Van Lines had good rating so I gave them a chance. My interaction with the moving coordinator was great. He was right on track. I gave him some ideas of what I had, and everything was perfect. The one who assisted the move was great too. She kept me informed and updated and I got my phone calls when I was supposed to.
So far, everything looks okay. The furniture was fine. But I haven't unpacked my boxes because I had to put my stuff in storage at my brother-in-law’s house until I can move in my place. They were really good. The only thing I was concerned about was a suitcase that I really didn't wanna take with me, and I asked if I could put it in plastic. They said, “You could put it in a plastic bin, not a plastic bag.” So, they were very informative. Everything that they told me, it happened. And the quote that I was given was accurate. It was an excellent experience.

My washer and dryer are always important to me, and I struggle to get people to hook them up because everybody is worried about liability. I've had a stroke recently and I can't hook them up myself. The last two moves that I've had, it's been a struggle. I've had to tip the driver to do it. In this particular move, Coloninal lost a gasket on one of the hoses. So, when they got to where we were going, the guy wouldn’t hook it up because it was missing a gasket. But they were the guys that unhooked it, so I asked them where was the gasket. The guy just said that he didn’t steal it. It took me about a month to finally get my washer hooked up. So I was not happy.
I’ve moved about eight times in the last 10 years, and it kinda surprised me that Colonial farmed my job out to a smaller outfit, and they needed the payment upfront. I wasn’t expecting that. Normally, you pay your half or down payment, and then you pay the rest upon delivery. But in this case, I paid half to Colonial, and then I had to pay the other half before they picked up, and then I had to pay again when they delivered. So that kind of shook me. I called Colonial about that, and they said they were sorry and that they forgot to tell me. It's a good thing that the smaller company took my credit card or I would have been racing to the bank that morning. Most companies only take cash when they deliver. But overall, my experience was all right and the account manager that I dealt with was great. I didn’t have a problem with that young lady. She was nice.

We were moving from Missouri to North Carolina, which was a long drive, and we were moving out of a five-bedroom house which we had lived in for 20 something years so it was a big move. I was searching for moving companies and I had to do it quick. Colonial seem like a reputable company and people have heard their name, so I went with them. Their people were very nice and professional.
When the team came, they packaged up the majority of our stuff and moved everything. The overall delivery also went very well. They came when they were supposed to and were very polite. There was couple and they had several people helping, and they were wonderful. Then, the final cost was pretty close to the given quote. I realized that we had a lot of files and paper, and there was one heavy filing cabinet. My husband keeps every piece of paper ever owned and we didn't talk about that. So, I completely understood why it was a little off. And we weren't surprised knowing that we did have a lot of stuff.

Everything went really well with my cross-country move except for one thing. I was told that if they estimated too high, I would get my money back. It’s a bit of a game wherein they estimate the weight a lot more than it is. Let’s say you pay $1.30 based on their estimate of 4,000 pounds and it ends up being 2,000, they don’t refund you $1.30 between 2,000 and 4,000. They refund you a much lower number and say $2,000 was the move and it was just the straight moving cost and that of the $1.30 they were only gonna give us 70 cents on the dollar as a refund.
They were way off on my estimates and I was very clear. They called me three times and I told them the exact number of boxes and the size of the boxes, but they missed by close to 100% on the weight. Then right before they picked up, they added like 500 more pounds to the estimate and the payment was 400 bucks. They gave that back in full though. With everything else, they did really well. They shipped my items in its own individual container, which was great. So when they moved it from one truck to another, they weren’t moving your stuff, they would just move the container. The moving coordinator changed a couple of times, but they were always courteous. All in all, it was a very good experience.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! If I could give zero stars, I would. This company is great in the beginning. Their sales department is on the ball. It all goes downhill from there. You talk to like 6 different people to go over the list of items. Then you get a moving manager, ours was Karen. If you get Karen, immediately ask for someone else. Karen said the movers will be arriving on our last day within the quote, but that they will arrive in Naples two days later. Our window for packing and pick up was 10/23-10/25. Awesome right, they will be there 10/25, and we will have our belongings 10/27. Nope, 10/25, after their supposed arrival time, Karen says they had a breakdown. The next day they are supposed to show up and they are a no show.
This time Karen says they are completing another job in Texas. She says the movers are from Austin and finishing a job in Austin. The movers are actually from Houston. She would not give me their names either. The Movers are then supposed to show up at 6:30 am on 10/27, 10:30 am, they show up. The whole time Karen says they are on their way and then said she didn't say when specifically. Then, Karen does not know when they will deliver and blames the movers. I talk to the movers on the phone as we are not there locally (Colonial Van Lines said that would be fine). We had various people take off work and leave their jobs to go and try to meet the movers that did not show up. The movers, over the phone, said it is dependent upon colonial van lines when they deliver.
Karen said that is not true. Now it is the following Monday and no one knows when my furniture will show up. Karen verbalized that it is in a climate controlled storage unit until they deliver it to Florida. At this point, we ask to speak to her manager. We talk to Sharon, she says she had no idea any of this is going on and will attempt to get to the bottom of it. Sharon did nothing! I called customer service to see if we could go to the storage unit and see our furniture. Customer service calls the movers and our stuff is in the back of a truck and they are back in Texas completing another move. Our furniture is not in climate controlled storage and not on the way to us. They now say it will be the last day of our delivery window for them to deliver.
Alvarez Movers call us Friday to tell us the weight and how much to pay them directly. Our weight went from 7500 pounds to 11000 pounds. Wow! They also verbalize they will not be there within the delivery window and will be there Sunday. They are unable to come Sunday as they got a flat tire, and come on Monday. The movers themselves are very nice and very helpful.
Now to unpacking, we are missing boxes, I have called and complained about all the above issues, nothing has happened. One lady called after I filled out the survey, and offered 250 dollars and would email us the procedure. She never emailed or anything. We have found rolls of newspaper that made many of the boxes very heavy. Why do our boxes have rolls of newspaper in them? All around, it was a terrible experience. We had our house and no furniture and were essentially prisoner to colonial van lines. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! I recommend any other company, any other, literally find any other company!

Everything was all set to go for pick up and the moving guys were all professional and really nice. There was just a little slight damage when they were unpacking my mattress. My wife relocated for a job and Colonial Van Lines was able to do the move faster and cheaper. And while other companies wanted to drag the process out, from the time I called Colonial Van Lines to get an estimate and to get everything scheduled, it was easy and straightforward, which I appreciated. The pickup and delivery went smoothly. I was in the army for 30 years so this wasn't my first move and I was very prepared.
However, we had a bit of difficulty with the subcontractor they hired. My original estimate was 5,000 pounds. Colonial subcontracted with a moving company out of Chicago called Best Move and when Best Move showed up, they said the weight was 7,000 so I was forced to overpay for 2,000 pounds. It all worked out though. The account manager was helpful in sorting things out when the overage occurred. It could have been stressful had she not told me that they'd just reweigh our items. When my load was delivered here in Idaho, I requested a reweigh and it was 5,000. Colonial was good about getting in touch with the subcontractor and getting my money back.

I’m a Realtor and I had two people come to Florida before me. I sold their houses, and one of them did not recommend Colonial Van Lines. But I said, “Let me give them a shot.” Their rep Candice was great and I would like to thank her. The guys who did the move were very nice. They were in and out. It was an easy move for them, about 38 boxes and a few little things.
We were moving from Ohio to Florida. We were closing on the 1st and the movers said to me, “We’ll be in Florida with your stuff between the 4th and the 15th." So, as soon as we closed, we got in the car and we came to Florida because we didn’t know if they were gonna be here on the 4th, but they didn't get here until the 11th. That was fine with me. I just wish that I had had a bit better control of the dates. But everything worked out. They did a good job. They didn’t lose anything and not a thing was broken.

They were in touch with me the whole way and they let me know exactly what was going on, the date of my move, and where my stuff was at. When they delivered, everything was there and nothing was broken. They had it all labeled out and knew exactly what room to put things in. They were the best in everything from top to bottom. I already looked into moving companies and have gotten an estimate from someone else. But my daughter, Kimberly, said, “We can beat that.” So, she got online and next thing I know, I have Colonial moving and they didn’t really save us that much. I had very good interaction though with their moving coordinator. And the three men who moved my furniture were absolutely wonderful,. They moved them with care and nothing was broken as far as the furniture is concerned. However, I’m still unpacking boxes and they failed to meet standards with that because I have lampshades, some metal lamps, as well as China lamps. They put the metal lamps in the same box with the lampshades and they were damaged. And they didn’t wrap some other things carefully and were broken. I wasn’t very happy with that part.
So, I'd tell others to pack their own boxes especially with things like lamps and lampshades and glass things because they really fell short in packing the boxes. I had an antique crystal powder and it didn’t get broken, but they didn’t put tape on it and the powder that was in it was all spilled out in the bottom of the box. I wasn’t happy about that because all they had to do was take a small piece of tape and put it over the top and it would have stayed on the container. I’m just glad that it didn’t get broken because it wasn’t wrapped in anything.

Donna in the resolution department was great and helped me get back my things. I still would recommend that people not use this company and instead contract with an actual moving company. I still feel defrauded by Colonial Van Lines' representations in the beginning.

Do not use this company for your move. If I could give negative stars, I would. What they don't tell you when you talk to the salesperson is that they are a broker, which is deceptive. They are not actually the carrier, they subcontract to another moving company. In my case, their pick was substandard at best. Everything went ok through pickup. Then my things were left in storage for almost a week before being sent to my relocation area. Communication was minimal. When I finally received the order, they had lost 11 of my things, including the parts for my beds so I currently do not have any beds. And three of my things were broken in ways they had no business breaking them. Seriously the bottom shelf is missing from my bookcase. How do you do that? The bottom drawer of my dresser no longer works because the rail for it is missing. How was that removed???
When you call to complain, they have to call someone at their subcontractor. So good luck finding your missing things because they do not do their due diligence in the first place when picking their subcontractors. They did not perform their end of the contract. DO NOT USE COLONIAL. Pick a mover who is the actual person doing the moving.

Experience at the beginning was okay. A deposit was made but the move didn't happen until six months later. My move was quoted one price then the sub-contractors doubled the quoted price. I was told that the move would happened on a certain date. They didn't bother to show up or call. My account manager for the move was unaware that they didn't show up. When they showed up the next day I asked what happened and they lied and told me that I requested a different day. They didn't put down protectors for my newly refurbished hardwood floors and caused damages to them. It took all day for them to load my furniture and they asked if they could finish the next day. They gave me a window of 5 days to delivery my belongings. When they didn't delivery no one could tell me where my belongings were.
It took an additional 6 days before I received my belongings. The driver showed up then had to call for temporary help and they were inexperience and damaged a lot of my expensive furniture. During the process I had to continue to call my account manager whom was clueless and customer service. They tried to get me to sign a document in order to received payment for late delivery, but this document stated that I couldn't file a claim if I signed. I have never experienced anything like this before. Worst movers ever!

Thanks for the positive feedback Mike! We're always here if you need anything!

Colonial Van quote per pound versus per square foot. The quote they gave me was close to the final cost. I moved across country, Pennsylvania to Arizona, and the moving coordinator was helpful but the other people in the company was not so much. There were some things that came up that were outside of her control that were not so good. But she did work hard to try to come up with a resolution, even though it was above here pay grade.
We ended up reducing what we were going to end up taking, and so we redid the quote, and that meant that I had paid too much in the deposit. They were unable to keep that and apply it towards the final total, so they were going to reimburse that. They wanted to put it back on the credit card but I had used prepaid Visa gift cards to pay for it, and I no longer have those Visa gift cards. And so, I talked to their financial people, and we agreed that they would write me a check. And then it became, once they picked up my stuff, they would write me the check. And then, I would get the check prior to my stuff arriving and I could cash the check and use the balance to then pay for the rest of the stuff arriving. They went ahead and reimbursed the gift card, anyway. And the company refused to write me the check even though it was their mistake.
So, I ended up having to get in touch with Visa and they went back to the recording of the original call to get the card details. And they went to align it up to get the full card number because the reimbursed receipt that they had in their records only had the last four digits of the card, and Visa needed the whole card because it was a gift card. This took a month to figure out. I was very angry. And so, we finally got it all figured out and Visa reissued the gift card, so I was able to get my money. We were too close to having to get nasty with it because at first, Visa said there was nothing they could do without us having the whole card number. It really was the coordinator who figured it all out. She managed to get the card number and get it on. She was great.
Also, everyone told me I could just pay with a card when they drop the stuff off. But when the movers came and dropped them, they wanted actual money. I said, "No! The company told me I could pay with a card." And so, they accepted that. I'll never do anything with Colonial Van Lines again if I moved. I had a horrible time with them. Their saving grace was the coordinator who saved everything.

My husband found Colonial Van Lines online and their rates were cheaper. Susan, the rep, was awesome. When we didn’t get any contact from the person who was telling us which date it was going to be, she went out of her way to make sure to find out for us and contacted us back with the information. The delivery was outstanding and nothing was broken. Plus, the quote was a little bit under what the final cost was. I would recommend Colonial Van Lines to somebody who's moving.

The price of Colonial Van Lines was significantly lower, and the sales agent that I spoke to was very detailed, personable and competent, so I chose to do my relocation with them. The move itself matched my expectations very nicely. There was a point at which the estimate went up after the goods have been collected, but before they were delivered. I was very concerned that I was gonna be charged way out of proportion to the estimate, and I was very unhappy at the time, and complained to the account manager. But it got resolved through accounting, to my satisfaction. Overall, they have low price and have professional service.

I moved from Illinois to NC and the entire ordeal was beyond stressful and overwhelming. The two guys that came to my place in Illinois to load me up were fantastic! The one came to NC and he was awesome!! They were so professional, friendly, funny and supportive. Perhaps the best part of this company is this home office folks, from Tracy and Shari were wonderful! They gave me a lot of comfort, reassurance and cooperation that was superb!! I am so thankful that I found this company online, when I did a comparison. Their costs was very reasonable but the drivers, movers and folks in the office were terrific. Thank you SO much!! :)

I was going to move my mother from Illinois to Michigan, and we had to do it within two or three weeks ‘cause my ma wanted to be moved to an assisted living. Colonial was the one that I was referred to, and they handled it as well as they could. The only thing was that we weren’t going to get there until Saturday, and they picked up on Thursday. I told them I couldn't do anything until Monday because I had to take my son back to school when we got back there, and they worked that out. I got everything done that I could within the time period. And they moved everything we wanted to have moved to Michigan.

I hope the person that received my household goods is enjoying them! Items that did arrive were damaged by poor stacking/placement/storage during transportation.

I did a search online, and Colonial Van Lines came up first, and they had some good rating so I went with them. The coordinator was very good. There was a little difference of $500 between the quote and the final price because of the extra boxes. But then, I didn’t know I had to provide boxes either. So, I provided some boxes and I didn’t have them all. It wasn’t bad. The supervisor and the moving team and the coordinator were all great to work with.
Some of the calculations were pretty far out there but the Colonials Van Lines' supervisor on site did a really job explaining it because I gave him a hard time. I understood it. It was fine. We worked it out. It was worth every penny of what I paid. They showed up on time and the stuff came on time. The young man who was the crew leader on site was great. He had a lot of poise, so I was really very impressed. My colleague moved at the same exact time I did, and the moving company lost her furniture, and she didn’t have furniture for three weeks until they found her stuff. I moved to Delaware and I had my stuff before she had her stuff.

Great Service. It was our first long distance move (**) and we were very happy with the service we got from Colonial. Thornalee and Shariann were great. Kept us informed all along the way and were very responsive to our questions. Marcus, our driver was absolutely AWESOME. He was helpful and he and his crew had us loaded in 2.5 hours. Our stuff arrived at our new location in 4 days, unloaded in 1.5 hours. Very happy with the service and care we received from Colonial.

I like Colonial Van Lines' initial price estimate. We moved from Philadelphia to Florida. It wasn’t a full move because we had brought a lot of our stuff down here the year before when we bought the house. We thought we were gonna be snowbirds, but we decided to spend the last winter here and we decided to move to Florida for good. We had a couple of mirror boxes with pictures in them. We had one bedroom set without a bed. We had a bedroom chair, an easy chair, an office chair. We had mostly boxes and a lot of them were heavy, a lot of them were tools.
The coordinator I worked with was very good. However, there was a miscommunication. Maybe he told me and I just didn’t hear it. I thought he said it was okay to leave all the clothes in the dressers, drawers. But when the movers got there, they said that we had to put them in boxes. So, we scrambled to do that, but we got it done. It would've went smoother without having to do that. The one who helped me during the move was very good. In the end, nothing was broken. I packed everything myself. They didn’t do any packing.
When we got here to Florida, the guys bringing in the stuff off the truck were careful but they didn’t call out any numbers to me unlike the last time we moved where they had stickers on everything, although that was another company. So, it was like a mad dash to find the numbers. And the guys who put the numbers on up in Philly, they put them on the top, they put them on the side, they put them on the bottom, they were all over the place. So, that took a little time and I felt bad for the guys here in Florida because it was hot out that day and they stood there, held the heavy thing while I search for the number. That was inconvenient although not a big deal really. It would've went a lot smoother if I didn’t have to do that. They could suggest that to their subcontractors.

My interactions with Colonial Van Lines is a mix of okay and not okay. Getting in contact with people was very hard. I didn't find any responsible person to be in contact and update us with everything. Then, our stuff was supposed to be delivered two days than expected but then something happened with the truck. But the positive thing about our experience was the pick up and delivery. The people who came to pick were wonderful and very helpful. They did their job very differently. We did most of the packing but they were quick and they took good care of our stuff. Nothing was broken. We asked them to set up and whatever we asked, they did it.

We were moving from Connecticut to South Carolina to be near my wife's family. I reviewed moving companies and got price quotes from all of them. Colonial had the best price with a company that still had pretty good reviews so I chose them. The coordinator I spoke with was very professional and helpful. Also, the account manager was good. I had everything all prepared before pickup and the expectations set by the coordinator were pretty much right on.

We are a retired military family that has been moved numerous times but our last move was as civilians arranging it by ourselves. We read reviews, checked the websites of numerous companies and then decided to contact Colonial Van Lines for our move from Louisiana to Texas. The first email we received from Colonial Van Lines for our move (**) was filled with just enough information that it was easy to understand so we decided right then to pick them for the job. The companies move coordinator was knowledgeable and understood what it would take for us to move (from quote to unpacking) made the entire process downright simple. I used Colonial when I moved and they were great. I had Steve and Jacekey and they were wonderful. Michelle was great too. But I didn't realize that the quantity of boxes was going to matter. I had small boxes so I ended up having more boxes than the 18 original. I talked to a rep a couple of days before I moved and he had me worried. Because there were so many small boxes, he wanted me to pay $1,000 more. Then he switched me to Michelle and she told me not to worry. I only ended up paying $100 extra.

I relocated from Southeast Georgia to Alabama. All the staff were professional and personable. My only complaint was when the movers/packers came and we did an walkthrough and pointed out that I had the boxes for both televisions. But when packing one television it was not packed in its box. I was very upset as I was charged for all packing material used. This is and was my only complaint but attention to detail is very important. I spent a lot of money for this move. Otherwise everything went smoothly at delivery. All items that were dismantled were put back together and boxes were placed where I requested.

We have moved many times and this is the first time we were scammed! Low ball quote to get the sale. Then once sale is made they stop communication. Movers come and give you new quote much higher but tell you it’s rare to go that high but it’s too late. You have no choice! Price then came in thousands more than quote! Then they say approximately 5 days for transit. Then two weeks go by and nothing!! Then they miss the latest delivery date posted on contract and nothing!!! Stay far away as we used many movers and never had the typical scam you read about online until now! Don’t use them for long distance and do not trust their quotes or timelines!!

We contracted with Colonial in February, they failed to make pick up on the scheduled date and offered no options. Home was sold, new owners wanted to take possession, and Allied said "we have no contract drivers to move your household" and left us high & dry! They failed to fulfill their contract, despite our having already paid 1/3 of total cost as down payment. They didn't care about the predicament they put us in. They lied to us a # of times before they finally admitted they could not fulfill their contract. Buyer beware - do not use Colonial Van Lines!

There is a page on Facebook for people that are leaving Connecticut, and Colonial Van Lines got good ratings there. On top of that, as soon as I called and left a message, somebody called me back within 30 minutes. Everyone was wonderful to deal with. I moved from Connecticut out to Texas, and they kept me informed every step of the way with check-ins. And so, when the movers got there to pack me up, they checked-in with me to make sure everything was okay. They kept me in the loop to let me know where my stuff was and how they were doing and what the anticipated date was going to be. They also checked-in with me today that it was delivered, and they checked-in with me several times since then.
It was beyond what I expected. They set a date range and they beat that. The customer service kept checking-in with me to reassure me that everything was good, and my furniture was okay. The account manager contacted me pretty much every step of the way. If that person was out, which happened a couple of times, they had a backup person and they let me know who that was. I was very, very happy. I was not too prepared when they got there to pack me up because I had two surgeries over the summer, and Colonial Van Lines took care of everything. They were great.

This company is deceptive starting with its name. If they have van lines, then why do they rely on subcontractors. Hana the salesperson was so helpful and did her job well of making feel good about my decision to work with them. Only issue is she lied through omission and inaccurate on key details. I was told the team would arrive with a weigh ticket for the empty van and then I would get a weigh ticket with my items in the van. Wrong...Never Happened!!
Best Price Moving's load up team (Best Price Moving is subcontractor) were rude and moved through my home as if they owned it, even took a door off hinge without asking. The delivery was AN ENTIRE WEEK past the deadline given. The delivery team for Best Price Moving was markedly better than the pick-up team and come to find out they didn't work for BPM - they were local freelancers (for lack of better term).
Among one of the first things brought into my new home was a desk that wasn't mine. "Was this desk weighed with my things?" I asked and was told emphatically, "No it was not" by Colonial Van Lines. How can they be so sure when they weren't the company to weigh it? How does this lady even think she can get indignant with me because I had the audacity to question her answer? It is the worst feeling to be in a new city and not have your belongings, to be required to pay for everything before your things can be delivered, and have a total lack of trust in both Colonial and Best Price Moving. Reading reviews of BPM and Colonial, my case is one of many. Beware and work with them at your own risk.

Forgot furniture behind and then didn’t assemble anything once my items were received which were also two weeks later than the last contracted day.

Every time I'd have a mover to quote me a price, at the end of the trip, it'd be much more. With Colonial, I was surprised that when they arrived to load my stuff for my cross-country move to Seattle, they wanted a check. Usually I pay half before they leave, and then the other half when the stuff has been delivered. But Colonial demanded a check before they even loaded the truck, which would’ve been half of the other half. In other words, I paid three-quarters of the cost before my stuff were delivered.
I also felt uneasy because the guys weren’t American. They were Russian, and were speaking Russian to each other all the time. It took them three hours to load stuff that I thought should’ve been loaded a whole lot sooner. This is not my first move and with my other experience, it would’ve gone a whole lot faster. They picked up on the 3rd and delivered on the 22nd which was the around the last day of the window. That meant I had to stay in a hotel for 19 days. I had to have a special handicap room for my sister so it was an ordeal. But everything arrived fine and I was glad to finally get in my apartment. All in all, I had a pretty good experience with Colonial. They always answered my questions and kept me informed all the time. But sometimes they would tell they’d call back but wouldn't. Nevertheless, I would recommend them.
