HMS Home Warranty was part of the package so it was already purchased when we bought the home. We’re still under the 1-year and it's been very nice and easy submitting a claim. I have been calling and their claims reps have been very responsive. My interactions with the technicians have been fine and the quality of the work performed has been good. They have been polite and responsive to us. We had to have them back again on the first claim we had and the tech fixed it so it’s not a problem anymore. I had another home warranty company prior to HMS and HMS is the best experience that I’ve had.

On my first move to Florida, my neighbor told me about TotalProtect. After that, I said, “How could I be without it?” When I have a problem, I call TotalProtect and tell them what appliance it is. They then will take my info and then I will call whichever company’s gonna come up to diagnose the problem to see if they can fix it or if they have to replace it. Then they show me thereafter whether it's to be fixed or replaced. I’ve never had a technician that wasn’t very knowledgeable and respectful. I always find them to be honest as well. On a scale of 1 to 10, the quality of their work is a 10. It’s been a very, very good experience. I’ve recommended TotalProtect to family and friends and some have actually taken my recommendation and now they have it.

TotalProtect is a great service company. They were introduced to me through CitiMortgage when they were still my mortgage company. I just took it and I've been with them ever since even though I've changed mortgage companies. I thought it was good to have the protection on the appliances and TotalProtect has been very good. Their reps are very professional and attentive and I usually don't have any long wait times. They've been pretty supportive too. If I submit a claim, they're right on it, and if I have any problems, they work hard to resolve it. I felt like it was customer service. I've had a couple of snags with technicians but not too many bad experiences. The quarterly services have been good as well.

I had American Home Shield years ago and I never had any bad experience with them. It was under my husband's name but I got divorced and I ended up with TotalProtect. I've called TotalProtect several times and recently, I filed a claim for the refrigerator. When I called them a couple of months ago, they sent somebody who came and changed the converter. With the recent claim, they told me that the guy from Sears put Freon and that there was a Freon leakage. I was away for three hours to get me groceries. When I came home from the grocery, the fridge wasn’t working. So I called the same guy who fixed the fridge and asked if he has a little bit time to come and take a look again.

When I called Sears, they said that they would send someone and they sent a second person out. When I called TotalProtect, they said that Sears gave them a report that the owner was not at home but I saw the guy. He came and looked at the fridge. Finally, when I called TotalProtect last weekend, they assigned me with a different service agent that has a really good customer service. They came home the day before yesterday and the guy told me they cannot fix the fridge. So I am waiting for them to submit their report sheet. It's been over three weeks now that I don't have a fridge. That shouldn’t happen to somebody who has a warranty especially if you have a family. Also, the CS from TotalProtect didn't take care of me well. When I called a couple of weeks ago, they are ridiculously rude but last Saturday’s call was really good.

Filing a claim with TotalProtect goes very well and I haven’t had any problems with them. The technicians usually come out like they say and get the job done. If I have any problems and I need a return visit, I haven’t had a hassle trying to get somebody to come back out. The only one thing that I’m not satisfied with is the increase in the deductible that we have to pay.

Do not by any means ever get a home warranty with HMS. I have had my own issues, and some basic searches on the internet reveal they deny a lot of claims and are a pain to work with, in addition to working with low-quality contractors. Dealing with HMS has been one of the worst customer experience services of my entire life. I had a claim denied due to what a claims officer called a pre-existing condition. Ignoring for a second that it was not a pre-existing condition of which I was aware, I politely asked to speak with a claims manager/case specialist to talk about the decision, since the customer support representative had no authority to change the claim status. What ensued has been a terrible, exhausting back and forth where I keep calling and asking to speak with a manager and miss the callback because I cannot be tied to my office or work phone due to the nature of my work.

I have asked repeatedly for the manager to leave direct contact information so I can call them back, but all I get is the 1-800 number, which puts me in contact with another customer service rep with no power and no ability to get a manager on the phone while I'm on the line. The customer service rep says a manager will call back within 24 hours, but I have waited up to 5 days between calls from them. I have now missed calls three times from a manager, spoken with 7 different customer service reps and each time I calmly explain that I need whatever manager calls me to leave direct contact information so I can get in touch with them but no one ever does. This has been one of the more infuriating experiences of my life, and it's now been over a week and I still haven't been able to speak with a manager on the status of my claim. So that's the customer experience portion.

The claim denial portion is just as egregious. After owning the policy for over a week, I found out I had a gas leak in the house - a gas leak that was not present or detected at the time of inspection. Yet the claim was denied because the plumber they sent out said the sealant around the pipe was old. So HMS then jumped to the conclusion it was a pre-existing condition. So first, the condition was not the pipe sealant, the condition was the leak, and pipe sealant can be old without having a leak, so there is no way to tell when the leak started, despite the pipe sealant "looking old". Second, on the HMS website, it says they will "repair or replace covered systems and appliances no matter the age, make or model. Plus, there are no home square footage restrictions and no inspection required."

So while I cannot prove the gas leak didn't exist before the policy went into effect, HMS cannot prove the gas leak DID exist before it went into effect. They are just basing it on the fact I only had the policy for a week. So the consumer does not get the benefit of the doubt here, which is terrible customer service. Absolutely terrible. Based on everything stated on their website, this claim should not have been denied, yet it was, and I have been unable to speak with anyone in authority about my case.

Anyone that has a problem with them should submit a complaint to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau because HMS makes fraudulent claims on their website about their coverages and support, and puts forth no effort to help you resolve any issues. So now I have a denied claim, a plumber asking for the $85 deductible, a week without gas, and I'm looking at having to spend another $600 to get the leak fixed. The worst. This company is the worst. The only redeeming factor is the customer support representatives are nice, but they have NO POWER and so cannot actually be helpful.

My HMS Home Warranty came with my house when I first purchased it. I usually call and speak to a representative when I submit a claim. They give me all the information I need to be able to contact someone to do the work. There have been a couple of times that I have had trouble getting in touch with the technician that they recommended. But when I call them back, they help me find somebody else to do the work, usually within 24 hours. Sometimes it's even within a few hours.

The last claim I had was about my garbage disposal. With the first company that HMS gave me information for, the technician was very difficult to get in touch with and kept telling me that he would call me back to get me on his schedule, but then he didn't. After a couple of days, I called HMS back and they gave me another technician whom I had worked with before and that went very smoothly. HMS has always been very good about working with me in finding somebody who can come out. There was one time in the middle of a snow storm where my heat had gone out. They worked to try and find somebody that could get out as quickly as possible. They're always very friendly and efficient. I feel confident about the maintenance of my home because I have them as a partner to help me through that process.

About five years ago, I received some information about TotalProtect Home Warranty through U.S. Bank. At the time, my sister was alive and we decided to sign up for it. Other than my claim right now, it’s been very good, and even this claim isn’t terrible because it’s probably going to work. All I asked for was that I want my air conditioning serviced because I try to do that every year before it gets bad. Out here, it gets 110℉ almost every day and it seems like before. They ask what you want but this time they just took the information of my address and my Protect Gold number.

They had the company call me and they came out to do it. There’s a problem with the fan in the air conditioner. It wasn’t broken but its band would cause the motor to eventually burn out. I paid them the $100 deductible that I have, but the man said that I would have to call back Protect Gold and have them approve what they’re going to do. We had a little bit of trouble approving it, but I got a call this morning saying that they’re going to come out and that Protect Gold had approved putting in a new motor and fan. They didn’t want to use the fan belt, but they want to put in the motor. That wouldn’t have done any good because even the motor they’ve put in would eventually burn out and I’d put another one in.

Last year, I had to use the warranty for something and found out that they raised my deductible, which was originally $75, to $100. I don’t remember being notified about this. The man came over and I said, “Write you a check for $75,” and he said, “No, it’s $100.” I called and they said that was a procedure that had happened. That’s the only thing I questioned, but they did go up to $100. I protested to them via email and phone that it was $75 originally. They haven’t increased the monthly cost, but that would be the only thing that's negative. Other than that, everything has been very positive. I’ve used it for quite a few things -- for fans, for my dryer. Also, I’ve recommended Protect Gold to my brother and another friend of mine. They looked it up and I know they’re using it.

HMS Home Warranty was provided by our seller of the house that we bought in August. We've used it two times already and both times, I submitted the claims over the phone. The reps were very friendly and I had no problem. They got back to me immediately and all the service providers that we have gone through to get the warranty work done have been awesome. I've had nothing but good experience.

One claim was for when our garbage disposal was leaking. I called HMS and they assigned a plumber to me. They told me to call them and gave me my reference number for my claim to give to them. I then called the plumbers who were able to come out and fix my garbage disposal within a day. It was super fast and they were very professional. They had to call HMS and tell them that the disposal needed to be replaced but that didn't take more than 15 minutes. They came back, replaced it, and they were on their way. It was really easy and the quality of work was excellent. HMS is worth the money. We like them so much and we will renew.

When we purchased our home, we purchased home warranty coverage through HMS. Shortly after moving in, we had a circuit board go bad on our HVAC system. After a week of HMS searching for a vendor they would allow us to use, we had them come out to diagnose the problem. This turned out to be a circuit board that had gone bad. The repair guy told us HMS had to authorize the parts and labor before they could proceed with the repair. 5 WEEKS later we found out that they wouldn't cover the circuit board repair. This was a relatively minor repair (about $500 after the deductible). They claimed that because we had a zone controlled system, they would not cover it.

Just to show the level of poor customer support, they have this trick when you call to put you on hold with no hold music, no announcements, nothing to indicate you are on hold. Twice I hung up thinking the call had dropped. Finally I figured out that this is their intention. The only way I was able to speak to someone about my claim was to call from a different phone. When I did this, there no wait time, and I was able to speak to someone in a matter of minutes. So, OBVIOUSLY we will not renew our coverage with this company. I would seriously recommend researching these companies before you get to closing on your home, and have your own policy ready (and not just accept the one the closing company recommends).

I continued to have problems so Homesure sent out another electrician (a good one this time) and he said both panels need to be replaced and wired correctly and also the whole house needed to be rewired due to numerous fire hazards. Home sure won't authorize the repair of the wiring (even though its covered in policy) and the electrician won't install the panels unless the wiring is repaired first. He said no respectable electrician could install them because my wiring is so bad. Meanwhile I am living in a fire hazard.

The most recent claim I had was with a water heater. They texted me to let me know when somebody would be coming and who would be coming out. The technician came out and looked at the problem, and I paid for the service call. They got back in touch with me and let me know when they would be back to make the repairs. I have had HMS for one year and my coverage is expiring in 2 weeks. I received a notice in the mail that because I am an existing customer, I am able to receive "special pricing" for my renewal. They gave me 3 different coverage options for renewing and 3 different ways I could renew my coverage... online, over the phone, or through the mail. I went online last night and renewed my coverage.

This evening I received a voicemail that my warranty is about to expire and that "as a valued customer, we are happy to discuss options that are available exclusively over the phone." So I called back right away and immediately the customer service rep said that I already renewed so there is nothing else I need to do. I explained what was said on the voicemail and he stated that if I had not already renewed, he could have given me a free month or a larger discount than I received online last night had I called to renew instead of doing it online.

I became very upset upon hearing this and asked for my renewal to be cancelled so that I could renew for the larger discount. He claimed he could not do that because I had already renewed. He even asked a manager for assistance and there was nothing he could do. This is VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! The notice I received in the mail claimed I was receiving "special pricing". However, it turned out to be not so special!!!! How was I supposed to know that 24 hours after renewing I would receive a voicemail offering me a larger discount??? Whatever discount is offered over the phone should be the SAME ONE offered online and through the mail!!!! Because you wouldn't give me one month free, which amounts to $43.99, you will be losing $527 next year when I DON'T renew.

I've asked for a manager to call me back. Someone by the name of Alex is supposed to call, but I haven't be contacted yet. There are plenty of other choices of warranty companies out there. You really should think about providing better customer service!!!! I feel like it's "Oh well, we got you sucked in for another year, we don't care if you're upset."

I have never had a home warranty before. When I bought this house, my realtor suggested that I get one and recommended HMS Home Warranty. This house also has a heat pump, which I've never had before, and I have heard bad things about it. I wanted to get a home warranty because I’m not confident in this piece of equipment. Everything has been incredible with HMS. When I had a claim for my compressor outside, the technician who came out said he tried all of his suppliers and he couldn’t find the part he needed. So he called back HMS and HMS, through their network, found the part down in Miami, and they FedExed it here within a day or two. We got the unit fixed. It’s incredible.

I tell people about HMS all the time. Most of the places that I deal with, the customer service is lacking. Not only does HMS has good customer service, but compared to others, it stands out the most. At work, I use my interaction with HMS on a couple of times as an example. Also, every vendor that they’ve sent out here has been incredible. The guys who came out to fix the door on my dishwasher explained everything that they were doing.

HMS understands their business and they do it well. They don’t make any exorbitant claims. They tell it like it is. Their booklet gives just about the right amount of information and things are very clear. They’re very easy to deal with and over the four years that I've used them, they’re consistent. The experience has always been very similar every time.

If I did have any questions, I asked and they answered so that I can understand. Or they either gave me pointers, as with my HVAC system, like to change the vents and make sure there are no weeds around it.

I made a claim for my furnace. I called them and they found a company for me. And then TotalProtect called them, we made an appointment, and that was it. The technicians came and they did what they had to do. I've had TotalProtect for quite a while and so far, we've been able to work things out. Anything they fix and anytime they send someone to your home, you have a six-month warranty without paying another copay.

However, there was one time I asked why something wasn’t covered and their rep couldn’t answer it. But other than that, it’s been good. The same can be said about their technicians too. However, that is with the exemption of my washer. This would be their fourth time to my house for the same problem which is frustrating. Otherwise, HMS has been fast and prompt and so far, issues have been taken care of.

Things happen so we looked into home warranty and my husband thought HMS was the best provider out there. Submitting claims is easy, I do it over the phone, and the claims representatives are knowledgeable. I filed a claim for the toilet as there was some blockage in the line, but the water was still doing the same and still draining slow when the first guy left. We paid $300 and the co-pay was $100. We paid for nothing. I also had to fund them to remove the toilet and I wasn’t expecting that. We dealt with it until we couldn’t deal with it anymore.

We called again to make the same claim but it was already different because it was over 14 days. I complained to say the first guys should have fixed it the first time and they gave me somebody new. The last guys who came out were really good and did a good job. They even cleaned up after themselves. I had to clean up after the first guys. Nonetheless, I’m satisfied with HMS. They did great the second time and made sure the guys knew what they were doing.

I had a mortgage at SunTrust Bank and TotalProtect came through there to start with. During my last claim, I had a commode problem. I've got four high commode seats and I got recall cards on three of them. They were leaking, and the plumber that was sent twice never fixed my leak completely and it was ruining my floors. This last time though, TotalProtect got somebody that acted like he knew what he was doing, and he fixed my leak. The tech called me when he got through. He guaranteed his work and told me to call him if they started leaking again and he'd come back. The work done was excellent and I was very pleased with them.

I also had a leak with my refrigerator and the water poured off. I found out that it was not covered under the home warranty so that was a little disappointing. I had TotalProtect cut the water off because it was gonna cost $700 or $800 for them to change one little line. We decided to not do that right now. They had already taken care of it. Overall I like the idea of paying the $75 and if my claim's covered under there, they take care of the rest of it. I've never had to replace anything but the $75 is a lot because you never know what the plumbers are gonna charge. But I'm satisfied with their service.

TotalProtect was recommended to me, and it was the first time I'd ever heard about it. It seemed like a very reasonable offer. At that time, my husband was still alive but he was very ill, and I knew I would be living in a house by myself pretty quickly. He was always the handyman around, so it behooved me to have some kind of protection plan in place for when I was going to be a single homeowner.

Claim submission is very easy with them. I almost always use the phone and call on the line as opposed to doing it online, as I like to talk to real people. But I have done both ways and have had very good success. The reps were very professional, friendly, courteous, and thorough. Also, I've never been disappointed by any of the technicians that have come out.

However, recently, there was one company that was recommended for an HVAC yearly inspection, and they never called me back. After three phone calls, I finally called TotalProtect back and the rep who handled everything for me got back to me right away. She said that the contractor lives over an hour away and they preferred not to come. My only comment that point was that the contractor should have called me back and told me so, as well as told me to call TotalProtect back and get a different recommendation, which I did get.

The gentleman from the other company I got is right here in my hometown. He called me and said he would call me again to set up an appointment for this week. But as of today, I have not heard from him so I will call him again and give him another chance. Other than these, TotalProtect saves me lots of money because I've had a hot water heater, a garage door opener, a garbage disposal, a washing machine, and plumbing worked on. At the end of the year, whatever I've spent in my monthly dues, I've gotten it back in the service that I've received.

When I bought my house, I chose to get a home warranty because all the systems in it were original so they're older. My realtor suggested that HMS Home Warranty might be the better of the two options that she presented. With the first claim that I submitted, everything went great and it was very easy and not complicated. The second claim which I submitted last week was because I’m having an AC issue. I had a company come out the first time but it seemed like the guy didn’t wanna deal with it. He said I should call the warranty company and get it transferred to another company.

So, they transferred it to another company and a tech came out. But now they’re saying that only a small portion of the job is covered by the warranty and I need to pay an extra thousand dollars to get the AC unit fixed. But it has not been fixed yet and it’s escalated because I talked to somebody else that’s in the business and they said that they would never do what the company is trying to do. Replacing coils with a coil that doesn’t belong to that system and retrofit something is not actually fixing the issue and there’s no guarantee that the fix would even work. It’s been not nearly as easy as the first and there’s been a lot of back and forth. I wish the company from the first claim is the company that I am using now. At this point with the AC unit, I don’t know if the home warranty is worth the $500 I'm spending. It’s been a difficult experience.

When I had a problem with my furnace, they said that a company will come but that company didn't service my area and they never updated their documentation on their record. I called back and told them which company they had sent the last time and I'd like the same company to come back because they're familiar with what's going on. So TotalProtect called the company and said, "Yes, we understand that you've been working with Alan. We'd like you to go back there and manage the claim." And they were happy to do that. The contractors that TotalProtect sent are great, efficient and they cleaned up after themselves.

They'd get back with me, tell me who to contact and I contact them. Then, they'd come out and would either repair or replace the appliance. Their reps have been real nice and friendly. But with the service techs, that's a different story.

The last service tech that came out, I sent TotalProtect a report. I emailed to them that I don't want that company back at my house. The service tech had to come out twice to fix the problem. First time, they were in such a hurry. They didn't even look for the pipe that was leaking. They said, "It's not leaking. I don’t see any water coming out," even after I told him exactly where it was leaking from. So, it started leaking again. I had to call them and they came back out. The second time, they said to put a clamp around it. After that, I decided to re-clamp the whole house. That company missed out on a $5,000 job and also put a bad taste in my mouth with the warranty company.

Overall it seems like TotalProtect always repairs the appliance instead of trying to replace it. Lots of times, they had to wait to get the parts for it. When they do that, for the time they spent getting parts and doing research, they could've replaced the appliance a lot easier. Also, it used to be $75 for a service call. Now, it's $125. For that reason, I might be changing and I'm gonna be looking for another service company. TotalProtect has been very good before. However, in the present, it hasn't been as good.

I told the guy that the leak is from the burst pipe due to the freeze up we had then ( which he could see), but no way. I called customer service whom to my dismay supported him!!. I argued, supposing the problem was from the water heater then you should fix it under the warranty. The stupid answer was (yes, but this is the pipe leading to the heater!!). I was pulling my hair, paid the deductible and paid another plumber to fix it due to the urgency of the situation.
In April 2016, I reported the toilet seat was loose in the same unit. When the plumber came and saw it he called customer service who told me that the warranty is void (because the bolt fixing the seat to the floor came loose due to being over torqued!!). I said the condo is 13 years old and that area is corrosive so it is a normal damage. Besides, who would tamper with the seat if it was sitting properly?. No way. I had to pay the deductible. I made numerous calls over several days just to be able to speak to a supervisor, she gave me the same answer (no logic)!. Same troubles to speak to the manager. She was of the same mentality.

TotalProtect's claims process is automated and sometimes I can’t tell somebody what the problem is. And the people you talk to has no idea what you’re talking about. If you’re dealing about a water heater or a dryer and you told them the brakes on that dishwasher don’t work, they’d write it down because they don’t know. Also, they used to make an appointment or would give you the person and this person will call you when they’re coming. Now, they just give you a phone number and the name of the company and it’s up to you to call them. And sometimes they’ve sent people from 75 miles away here to fix something because I think a lot of businesses don’t want any part of this warranty thing.

The service people know what they’re doing and are better than the people I have to deal with at the company. But usually, they are not not allowed to go get a part on the truck and fix the issue. They have to call the warranty people. They order the part and ship it to your house and you don’t get the thing fixed until the next week. I had a clothes dryer where they ordered parts. The parts were shipped to my house and they sat here for over a week before I could get somebody out here to fix my dryer. We made two trips 25 miles away to a laundromat to wash clothes because they would set up an appointment for Thursday but by Thursday, they change it to Friday and then by Friday, it’s changed again to Monday. And you would think since they’ve already started the job, it has priority over other jobs but apparently not.

The people who were working on the dryer were from a company contracted by Sears. I told the warranty people to not ever send Sears back to my house as I waited for two weeks to get my dryer finally finished. But I had a dishwasher problem and Sears is the only one that they have down to do that so Sears came out and fixed the washer. This time, the guy was real smart. He knew everything about it and explained everything to me.

TotalProtect usually gets everything fixed but you seem like you have to wait too long to get an issue fixed, and then they don’t have enough companies to do their work. One guy told me he drove 400 and something miles the day before just running all over the state. And companies don’t want to sign up to work with them when they’re only getting paid a certain amount and end up like that. Also, what I have to pay is the most important part. Total Protect is raising the price this month so I don’t know if I’m going to keep it or not. The charge now is so high that I can call the service man who has a place three miles from me for probably the same price or less.

I submitted a claim for a Samsung refrigerator last Thursday because the refrigerator panel wasn’t working. I know it takes time for something that wasn’t an emergency but I was following up on my claim all the way. I called HMS at 11:30. The guy was supposed to come at 12. They called him and he said he would show up at 12:30. He didn’t show up at 12:30 and then I called them at 1:30. They called Sears, got Sears on the line, and Sears said they were having a problem. They could not come. And so they rescheduled. It’s supposed to be this week, Thursday, but they didn't come. Not only did they not tell me they were not gonna come, I had to make all the calls to find out they weren’t coming. That’s what I was upset about. I don’t work, but I do take care of my mom and I would have been at her house earlier.

HMS themselves did what they could. And I know sometimes they have to go out and get the brand people to do the work. We don’t know how far they are booked up, but if they were two or three weeks, they should go out and find somebody else who can do the work or they have to pay extra to get them the account for someone else and get my work done. However, when I previously submitted a claim for my disposal, the technicians came out in a timely manner. It didn’t take them as long to get out. They found out it wasn’t the disposal, it was the switch that turns it on and off. And they fixed that.

It was a very long day for him and he was going to come the next day, but I begged him to come that day because I really needed it to be unstuck, and he did. He came late in the day when it was raining and it was almost dark, but the man worked really hard and got it all fixed for me, so I was very happy with him and the HMS people. I had to pay my $100 deductible, but that was okay as they got the work done. It was a pleasant and efficient experience and I would recommend them.

Then they’ll turn around and give me a confirmation number with the name of the customer that will provide the service. Their technicians have been pretty friendly and sincere. If I run into another problem they’re right there to take care of it for me. There’s been only one experience that I had with one particular company that I was very upset with and they even double billed me. But TotalProtect was able to resolve that and settle it promptly. The only concern that I have is the cost of the deductible. It seems that the deductible keeps going up. If it continues, I might have to shop around. Other than that, their overall service is reliable and punctual. And the subcontractors that I dealt with are very presentable and efficient.

My son-in-law was here when the technician came and they looked at everything that needed to be done and that was corrected. So, he was satisfied with it. Eventually, the air conditioner worked. Every time I've called HMS Home Warranty and this was the third time I had to call, they got back to us right away. They provided the person that was doing the work. They took care of the problem right away. However, TotalProtect had to select a good company they were going to send. When I called one time for a problem with the faucet that was leaking upstairs by the bedroom, there was a problem with the company that they sent in here. They said it was already fixed but it was still leaking. That's why I had to call them back. Then the commode downstairs wouldn't flush. Three days after the repair, there was a problem. It was stuck up again. Then they sent the same company but a different person.

TotalProtect was the one that our mortgage company recommended when the letter came out years ago and after looking at it, I took it. I also figured out that a lot of things started to go wrong and having our home warranty over the years has saved us a lot of money in the long-run.

However, their automated systems could be pretty confusing and a lot of times, it goes back to where I started from. I hate it when the tin lady comes out and then says, "Press this button, press that button. Take the following over there." It drives me crazy. All I wanna do is talk to a live person. But when I talk to an actual person, the reps were always good, very helpful and understanding. They seemed to know what the process was and explained to me how they do things. Also, I would ask questions to the technicians about certain things and they'd tell me what's going on. Both of them have been very informative and efficient. On the whole, I've always had excellent communications with TotalProtect.

I called HMS about a month later for a second thing that needed fixing. It was the garage door and that claim was good. They replaced the motor and the button, and I was very happy. When I asked about the toilet, they thought the first guy had already fixed it and put in new parts. He reported that he finished fixing two toilets but he did not. He lied. I told HMS that he didn't fix it and that he just came here for three or four minutes then left. HMS will report that but I hadn't heard any about it and my water is a high bill from that. I came across HMS Home Warranty when I purchased my house. They're familiar to me so I went with them. Even my realtor has started HMS. I have been with them since 2008. Submitting a claim with them is good, that's why I'm still with HMS. I call or submit claims online and both works the same way but sometimes if I really want to talk to someone, I call on weekdays during working hours. When something happens the night of a holiday, I usually go with the online or the phone automated system. It would be nice if we can always talk to someone but it doesn't work that way. Then after I filed the claim, they assign me a contractor and the contractor calls me. The claims process is not difficult but sometimes it's hard to get someone immediately especially during winter time.

I've also been getting good technicians majority of the time, except for some five years back when I had a guy who came in for my AC repair, put some tape, and then reported that he took care of the job. When I called again, HMS wanted me to pay another deductible and I asked them why I should pay the deductible when he never did anything. I didn't pay and they sent someone. Then after that, most of the experiences were good.

Recently, when my dryer went out, some technician from Sears showed up. They're reliable technicians from reputed companies. It's always better to keep contractors who are reliable since there are some technicians who are cheap but don't do a good job. But so far, it's been okay with the technicians. At any rate, 90% of the time, whatever that was done was good. I had been happy a customer with HMS. In spite of many people telling me there are companies out there where I can pay $350 and still get the same coverage, I didn't even shop around because I was happy with this company.

HMS was originally the home warranty provider when my daughter bought the house in November '15, then we renewed the warranty in '16. It's been real good submitting a claim. However, the only thing that was questionable was, we did some upgrade but we got conflicting statements from the HMS reps on whether or not we had an upgrade. We had a garbage disposal that went out, and it was the only one. Apparently it was hardwired so we had to have somebody come out and put a new electrical plug in for it, so we did that. At the same time, we put in a whole new electrical box. But then later that year, HMS called us and the rep said that we didn't have any upgrade option on the report. But then, when I talked to some other lady rep on another claim, she said that yes, we did. But we didn't ever submit anything for the upgrade.

The other claim that we filed with HMS seemed fine. The people that came out have been excellent and we haven't had any problems at all. The technicians that come out have been very courteous and friendly. They explained what they were doing, what happened, and why it leaked. They showed us what they've done, and it's been real good. We're going to continue with HMS and renew the warranty with them next year, except that we won't do the premium one. We've upgraded everything that we possibly could at this point. We'll keep renewing the warranty with HMS every year. Overall, they have been professional and reliable.

I am going to try and not be emotional with this review. I like to pride myself in my understanding of processes and procedures, however, dealing with this company is painful. I will say that the customer service representatives are very cordial and at least pretend to be understanding and sympathetic. I have had this company as a home warranty since March 2011. I was always afraid to file a claim because the cost of the deductible would typically be more than the cost for me to repair the issue myself. When it came to my pool pump, that was a different story. Toward the end of last year, I had issues with my pool motor going out. It took almost 3 months to resolve this issue. I was finally provided with a new pool motor, but not after having to go through three separate contracted companies, one of which removed a part and denied it, took my deductible and never followed up with the warranty company. On to my current issue. My filtration system on my pool. It has been several weeks since I contacted Total Home Protect to file a claim on this issue. At first I was told I did not have pool coverage (this sounded funny), so I hired another company to come diagnose my issues. I phoned Total Home Protect again and tried to verify my coverage. The informed me that at my annual renewal (less than a month prior), my coverage changed because they no longer offered the plan I was on. So they renewed my coverage (excluding pool coverage), and increased my deductible from 65.00 to 125.00 a month. In previous years, at my renewal period, I was provided with information indicating that unless I wanted to make changes, I didn't need to do anything. This year was the same, only they failed to inform me of the changes THEY made without my consent. Through several calls to customer services, I was able to add pool coverage (with an additional $240.00 paid immediately) and file my current claim (125.00 deductible). Before I added the coverage, I verified with membership services that all of the parts that I was needing would be covered. I listed each one individually and I was told "yes, it is covered". Flash forward to claim denial of those parts I previously was told were covered (mind you, I have not received any coverage information for the pool since it had to be added back on). I have spent almost every day for the past 4 weeks trying to get this resolved. Phone calls were pulled...they verified that I was told the parts were covered but they say "we're sorry the customer service representative misinformed you". Where is the accountability? Why should I have to pay for their mistake? Additionally, I live in Arizona and just 2 weeks without a filtration system...the pool looks as though aliens landed and had babies in my pool. In the 6 years I have had this pool, it has NEVER looked like this. The costs I am going to have to FIX this issue because it wasn't and still hasn't been handled in a timely manner. I now have to drain my pool, and do a chlorine bath to remove the staining caused by the algae - I don't even know the cost involved with that one yet. I have had to purchase parts on my own that they are now telling me aren't covered (though they initially told me they were = $350.00). The company they had come out didn't even address all of the issues I filed on the claim. An attempt was made to stop a leak at the canister by replacing the bolts when the company I hired indicated it needed to be replaced completely. The new bolts after 2 days are spraying water onto my electrical components. The initial issue was debris going back into the pool from the filter. Small particles of DE. The issue now (after they came to look at it) is torn grids (the part they are refusing to replace though I was told they were covered), cracked manifold, cracked backwash valve, leaking at the clamp for the canister lid, etc. I am beyond frustrated with this process. I Highly recommend you re-consider this company when shopping for home warranty needs. This isn't the only negative interaction I have had with them. The pool pump last year took several months to resolve. NOT ACCEPTABLE.

When I asked if the microwave doesn't work AFTER the door is changed, would they charge me a third time, they said yes - each issue is separate. Does this make sense? Isn't it the repair company's responsibility to diagnose and fix an appliance issue? We could have bought a new microwave with the money spent on these deductibles plus time off for the multiple visits by a company I would never recommend to anyone in our area. My mortgage company suggested them and I kept getting flyers inserted in my bill when I was still paying hard copy statements. I’ve been with TotalProtect ever since and I find it very helpful except that the deductible went up from $75 to $100. I recently had problems with the plumbing in my sink. When I turn on the faucet, it floods. I called TotalProtect and paid $100 deductible even when the basic charge for an hour a plumber is only $75. I could just have not called TotalProtect and went direct to the plumber.

TotalProtect has been pretty nice about everything. I had a microwave that was here when I moved in and there’s something wrong with it. I called TotalProtect and they sent a technician. And then when there was nothing he could do anymore, he replaced it to a Maytag which I hated. It only lasted for three years and it was too big. Their technician also seemed like he was part of a fly by night organization. He ruined the Maytag microwave. TotalProtect decided to replace it so I asked if they were only supposed to spend $249. I also asked them if I could just choose my own microwave and if we’ll go over what they are allowed, I will pay it. So that’s what I did. I got the amount that they were supposed to pay and I’ve been happy, otherwise I would have canceled.

My experience with TotalProtect has been fine. The only discouragement is that they went up on the cost when I had an issue with my oven. To come out, it's now $100. I paid the $100 and the technician replaced the igniter and then it went out again a couple of days later, and he came back out. He got it going again, but yesterday, Easter, I had a big dinner party and I had to move it to a friend of mine's house because my oven went out again. And so, my only hesitation is that having them come out again and pay another $100. After I do that a couple of times, I probably could have had a new one. I wasn’t sure if I called them out again, pay another $100, if they would find something and say that TotalProtect would replace the stove.

Before the $100, it was $50 at first then it went up to $75, and then I was fine with that $75 on the call because normally we didn't have too much of an issue. But then they're not making things like they used to make them anymore. I don't know if I'm saving money or not if they have to come out more than enough times.

We pay $50 a month and so paying that a month and not even have to call and use the service within six months to a year, sometimes I feel like the money that we pay a month for the service should go towards that service call because we're paying that. But I guess it's just like an insurance, if I never have to use it then it's just money sitting there. But the service is great. I've never had any problems with the people that come out. There was only one time that I asked them not to send a certain company out anymore. I just hope they keep it affordable because that's why we go with it.

We call into TotalProtect to start a claim. Sometimes, we talk to a person, sometimes we go through the automated system. It depends on the time of the day. And then they will contact us back with who the claim has been submitted with, which company is going to fulfill the claim. Normally, that company will contact us the same day to set up an appointment. And then once the appointment is there, they'll come out and do the work. They'll contact TotalProtect to get approval to do the work once they've done their assessment. And then, TotalProtect usually follows up about a day later to find out if there was any issue with the work.

The last claim we had was about a garbage disposal last month. We called it in over the weekend and on Monday, we got contacted by the company and had an appointment for the following day on Tuesday. In that past, it has normally been within a day or two that we have someone out to address the problem but they came out after lunch on Tuesday and they were on site for about 45 minutes and that was it. Their quality of work was great. There were two gentlemen from the company that came out and they knew what they were talking about. We haven't had an issue with our garbage disposal since. They sent a claim over to the actual electrician whom I called and we set up an appointment. He came over and fixed it in ten minutes. My problem was solved quickly and I was satisfied with the work that was done.

An HMS warranty came with my house when I bought it seven years ago. I kept it for those years, and I'm pretty happy with them. I usually call and tell them what my problem is, then they give me the name and contact information over the phone and email it to me. They're very friendly, helpful, and easy to get a hold of. I reach out to the vendor and in every case but one, over seven years, the vendor has been exceptionally responsive. Also, in 95% of those cases, they've solved the problem on the first try without any issues whatsoever. There's a reason I've kept HMS Home Warranty for seven years and haven't looked around at all. They've been exceptionally reliable and the value they bring at the price they are is enormous.

At the time, TotalProtect had the most coverage for the value. They covered everything from the little bit of things to big things, their deductibles were low and they always have the best references for people so I chose them. I called one time and they referred this man to me to fix something. After I talked to him, I thought he was quite rude. So I called TotalProtect, explained the situation, and told them that I don't want to deal with the guy. They set me up with somebody else and they made note of that. I thought that was really neat.

Then I have submitted most the claim online but I did one on the phone way back. The representative was very nice and helpful. Professionally speaking, they knew exactly what to do and they answered all my questions. I kept them as I haven't had any problems so far. I already recommended them to friends and to some people that I know are homeowners who always have issues with their stuff.

When I bought this place my real estate lady told me about HMS Home Warranty. She said that a lot of banks reference them. Everything was good with them other than my very first experience. My washing machine walked halfway across the floor and it bounced. The first technician came out and they replaced a part. The second one came out and I don't know if he replaced a part or he thought he fixed it, but the washing machine still did what it did. The third one came out and he finally told me that it was always going to do this because I'm on the second floor and it's a wooden floor, but it's a level floor and I had my washing machine in my house, for 18 years, upstairs on a wooden floor and there was no problem. They also didn't tear it all the way down.

I think it was something inside the tub that was wrong, so I had to go out and buy me a new one. I should have pushed them again and had somebody else out and talk to somebody. At one point, I left a message for somebody to call and they never did. But with my most recent experience with them, my microwave went out and it was fine. The guy was extremely nice and they called, picked it up on the same day and in a couple of weeks I had it installed.

Also, we had a blower motor gone out on the furnace a couple of years ago and they replaced that. Then we've had problems with the air conditioning and the last guy who came out said that it's a brand new one so they used top of the line parts. Several years ago when we refinanced our home, the mortgage company that we went with gave us some information on TotalProtect. We've renewed several times with them. I usually call in my claim and the reps make a note of the claim. Then they will get in touch with some local contractor, whether it's electrical or plumbing, to come out and take a look and see what the problem is. There's a deductible of $100, but it used to be a $75. And if they can repair it, they will let TotalProtect know.

We've had to replace the dishwasher, microwave and the refrigerator. TotalProtect will say that they'll give X number of dollars to replace this and give me the make and model of the equipment. If I don’t like that, then I'll go out and buy what I need, and they’ll just pay me what it was gonna be allowed on the others. The last two times that we had someone out, one was for the replacement of the dishwasher and the other for an electrical problem with the light switch. It was the same service people and they were very nice people, a husband and wife team. They're just about capable of doing anything electrical and did excellent work.

But TotalProtect's main problem is the ability to contact someone in this area to look at the problem. They're on the East Coast, we're out here in Montana and the service people are few and far in between. When the refrigerator was not working, it took them a while to get somebody out here. In the meantime, I've got to have a refrigerator so I went out and bought a refrigerator on my own. Nobody had taken a look at it, and so they said that they couldn’t pay the claim. But eventually, they told me that I can't do without a refrigerator. They couldn’t get someone out here to look at it, so they understood the situation. They ran it through some of their people and reimbursed me for the refrigerator. But overall, I would recommend TotalProtect.

The experience has been good and until I have another problem, I'm satisfied. I had my house built back in 2005 and we found out about TotalProtect online. We have a lot of appliances and rather than having to replace them any time they break down, its better to just be able to call somebody and have them come out and fix it for a small deductible. I give TotalProtect a call, tell them what's wrong, what the product is. Then they give me a claim number. They either call the contractor to come do the work or they set it up automatically for the contractor to call me, or they'll give me their number and tell me to call the contractor myself. So it really depends on who it is. And usually, the techs get to your home within 48 hours from whenever you call.

However the quality of work is spotty, it's hit or miss. I've had some people come out and do just kind of average work. It's not people coming out from TotalProtect doing the work; it's the subcontractors that they use. I've had somebody come out to fix my stove and he was okay. I've had people come out to fix my air conditioner, and that was pretty good.

TotalProtect has worked pretty well for me so far. The amount I paid in premiums over the years that I've had it, I probably could've just bought new appliances. But who knows if those would have broken down either. It's worth it. It's like any insurance though. It's like one of those things you hope you never have to use. But if you do, it's just there. It's only about $40 a month. I see it come out of my account every month. Then sometimes I'm like, "Why am I paying for this?" But then when something breaks down, I'm like, "That's why I'm paying for that."

My friend had a good experience with TotalProtect, so I decided to get a home warranty with them, too. What I like about it is that I spread my costs over monthly and over time, so if anything goes wrong and I have a big problem with any of my appliances, such as the dishwasher, the clothes washer and dryer, and the stove, and they'll send somebody down to fix it. There's a deductible of $125, aside from the $58 a month that I pay, but I'm not going to be out of pocket for the whole repair cost. I have expensive things in my home and everything is electronic now, and that's what I was concerned about. In fact, I just replaced my water heater. But I have that covered now, and that cost $1,800 to repair. So, it's like an insurance policy. To submit a claim, I just call up TotalProtect. So far, the technicians they have sent out have been good and everything seems to be working properly with them right now. So I'm satisfied and I would recommend them.

Additionally the repairman that they send was horrible. He showed up hours late both times. This left my wife stuck at home all day when she had things to do. The second time he brought the wrong replacement part. He said he would be back on the same day but he never did. He had to come back a third time.

For about a month everything worked just fine and then the second issue happened again. My wife called HMS to fix it and requested that someone else be sent. They told us that because this is part of the same issue we would have to use the same contractor. We were not happy about using the same person but because of the policy we went along with it. We warned them that the issue is inconsistent and they said that this was not an issue. The contractor came and could not replicate the issue and asked for the deductible which we told him we did not have to pay as this was part of the same claim. We have a video of the issue. When he tested he only tried clicking on buttons. He didn't actually run a diagnostic on the board. He told us that he would put in for a new motherboard as it was obvious from our description that that was the issue.

A week later HMS called to say that we had to pay as this was a new claim and that nothing will be installed because the repair man could not replicate it. We went back and forth trying to explain that this was the same issue. All of this was on the phone and every time we asked them to send us an email for our records explaining what we discussed. They never sent anything and we eventually ended up talking to the different supervisors who told us different thing, which conflicted with each other. This inconstancy with information every time we talked to them made it impossible to know how to deal with the issue. With such terrible customer service and horrible contractors I will never suggest to anyone to use HMS.

One time, I needed my refrigerator replaced and it's an emergency because I have medication. In the first process that I went through, they ordered me one and they said the process would take four days. I called them after 1 week went by but the shipper told me that they know nothing about it being ASAP and if they delivered it, it would have to come on a big truck and they needed a forklift brought in to unload it which would cost more money. And they also don't install.

The people that I talked to said that they can't do it locally because they want to order at wholesale and save money, and it has to be shipped to somebody to be installed which takes time. Then they have to wait for the installer to get a hold of it. While I'm waiting for it to come in, a big truck showed up at my house the other day and it had the refrigerator on it, which was the one they ordered from the first place that never got canceled. So, I had to deny that and I'm still waiting for the other one. However, I've been waiting for over four and half weeks now and I still haven't got it. But I'm still happy with them and I wanna give the most credit towards their customer service courtesy.

My major appliance has been OOC for 3 weeks and now, after many calls, they advised that they are taking another 10 days to see if they can find a board somewhere else even though the manufacture doesn't make it. In no way should you pay for a home warranty, have a major appliance fail and have to wait well over a month for relief. My guess is after they realize they can not get it that it will take another 10+ days to get a replacement. I have spoken to their call center about 8 times in the last week. Every call is like ground hog day and they end up sending me to a barely English speaking person at Sears where we start over and go no where. Then, I was for a new surprise and they sent another provider. Total Protect only paid a small portion of the claim which was contrary to their Service Agreement. Unless you want to get a law degree and fight them in court for all their lies and legal language. Keep in mind, I interviewed 3 of the best service warranty providers. I had three things broken at the same time that needed a repair. The septic had to be cleaned and then the water heater and the furnace was broken. I called them to submit the claim, though I've done it online before but I like to talk to a person. Dealing with their claims rep has been good. They're friendly and they tell me exactly who I'm getting and their contact number. Then they'll tell me their business hours. Also they're prompt about calling and letting me know if it's reassigned to another service provider.

HMS diagnose the problem which they have to put in a PO and then wait until the specific parts to come in. Then I have to get the service provider again and schedule to get the item installed. That takes three or four days off of the installation. I was a week-and-a-half without hot water because of the delays and then the furnace took a couple of weeks. The service provider got backed up with other work and we got to the end of the list again. It would be nice if they could schedule out the service provider at the same time that they ordered the items.

All three of the contractors who came out were really good. They're knowledgeable and helpful, especially the furnace person. He explained how to read the little light that has all the warnings on it and it was very educational. He also told me how old the system was and how to clean it. Also, I did an online comparison about how much does this system costs versus one of my spendings with HMS and I saved at least $3000 on the furnace and probably $1000 on the water heater. When I got the furnace, I was really surprised that it was a Trane furnace. I was not expecting like a very high-quality furnace so while I did have to wait a little while, the wait was definitely worth it.

We’ve had a really horrible experience with TotalProtect for the last couple of weeks. Our hot water heater had a small leak in the bottom, so we called in a claim and they gave us a plumber to contact. That plumber came out, took a look at it and said they needed to be replaced. So he got the information and they were putting me in a replacement. He said that it's going to take about two business days before they get it and most likely he'd be able to have it again and then install it on Wednesday. Then on Tuesday, our heat went out the second time in a couple of weeks. So we called and did a claim on that one and they gave us the same guy who was going to install the hot water heater.

The tech said he was going to come in Wednesday to look at the heater and he thought he knew what probably happened, it was the motor that he installed the last time. It might have blown out the electrical panel. So he'd be out in the morning and that's when he was coming out to change our water heater anyway. He then said that he couldn't come out to do the hot water heater because he had to install somebody else's furnace, but he would come out to look at the heat. So when he came here with another gentleman, he looked at the heater and got it fixed and running. He then said he would be back tomorrow which was Thursday, to install the hot water heater.

But he never called or came in on Thursday. I was out of town so my wife tried to contact him, but he didn't respond. So she continued to try on Friday. She had to call the home warranty company again. The tech must have gotten word somehow, so he contacted my wife and said that his back was killing him from foot and there's no way he's going to be able to come and put it in until Monday. So when I came home late Friday night. When I woke up on Saturday, my wife said “There's a lot of water in the basement. That hot water's really leaking now." The hole became even bigger. And then it wound up literally soaking all the carpet and the walls.

So I got on the phone to call TotalProtect and said, “We have another problem because this guy didn't come in and install this. Now I have water all over the place. So who is going to be responsible for fixing that mess now?" They said that they're not responsible for that stuff and that I need to talk to the vendor. So I called the guy, but he didn’t answer his phone. I also left a message saying that he has to clean up all the stuff now that it’s damaged because he didn’t come when he was supposed to come.

He called 5 minutes later and said his back was hurting and he couldn’t get in. He said he told my wife that he won't be here 'till Monday. I said my home’s a mess. He said if I have a problem with that, he’s not responsible. And that I can call my warranty company. I told him that they told me to call him. He then said “I’ll call them right now and I’ll be there Monday to install.”

I called TotalProtect back and explained the situation. They called me back and said the contractor can no longer install the water heater at all. He refused to come down and install it. They told me that I had an option that I could find somebody myself and then they would reimburse it. I asked if I opened another claim, how long was I going to wait. The rep said the guy needed to return the hot water that he picked up first and then they’ll install that one. It can’t be installed until he returned it. The rep also said that she can’t refund the money for the claim until I return the hot water heater either. And that could take up to 20 days.

I’ve already been without hot water for six days and I just needed to get my own thing done. I have seven different businesses, I have a plumber, and one of them doesn’t live too far from my home. So I called him up and explained my situation. I also explained how much money I was going to be getting from TotalProtect. Plumber came in, looked at it and it's all kinds of issues and the bottom line is, it wound up costing me $2400. Total Protect wanted the bill faxed to me, said they were going to look at the bill and they put me in reimburses for the expense in tank if that needed to be replaced then they’ll reimburse that. I said, "Okay. But I don't understand why you're not reimbursing for the cost of the hot water heater?"

He kept coming back and forth with me quoting how I agreed to this money. And that's why they're already going to pay that and they can get hot water heaters at cost 'cause they do it at bulk. Basically, he just argued with me about what his stand was. I deserve a whole day's wage just for dealing with this stuff. And it's so disappointing and I told the guy, "I know this isn't you.” He did a very good job except he didn't have the power to do anything else. Then he said, "Why don't you fax me or scan me an invoice and I'll take it to my manager and we'll see what we can do. So I emailed it to him, but nobody called me. We’ve sent the invoice to him the second time and he still didn’t reply to the email.

I called and left a message and told him that I haven’t heard anything from him. I called again, but didn't hear from him all day. So I'm still in that situation where I have no idea other than the fact that they cut a check for the same amount they said they were going to cut yesterday. So I just want to hear him tell me that it's now closed and that's all I’m getting. It's just absolutely horrible.

I renew my warranty with HMS every year and they'd sometimes send me that booklet with my numbers. I have it on a file folder if something happens. Then I would call a 1-800 number and get a customer service rep. They'd give me the claim number and look up the service entity that would be coming and contacting me. I normally would contact the service entity because I can arrange the timing with them at the same time.

The technicians that have been sent out were very polite and professional. They even ask if they should take their boots off when they come in the house. Also, they performed a very high quality of work. However, I had one incident during the Christmas season where the person was not in their right frame of mind and didn't follow through. Sears had to come in to complete the job. HMS, out of respect for what was going on, sent Sears out to do what needed to be done.

When the only refrigerator that I have was not working, they came in twice for it but they decided it was going to cost too much to repair so they gave me the value of the fridge which is close to $900 and I got to go and get another one and send a receipt. They're still waiting on me to present a receipt for our fridge since I've been traveling and have yet to buy a fridge. I've been an HMS Home Warranty client for about 18 years and I'd recommend them.

We bought a house a year ago and our realtor highly recommended that we get HMS Home Warranty. When I call the 1-800 number, I don't ever recall being on hold for very long. We're given a claim number and the local repair business. The claims process was very easy and the reps were very friendly and accommodating. And the local repair business was real good about getting back immediately and setting up a schedule to come out and fix what needs fixing.

I only have an issue with one of the techs who came out and it wasn't that they didn't fix the problem. When I inquired about how the preventative maintenance should be done, they didn't seem to be very interested in talking. Probably because they had more work to do or other calls. So I just let them go and made a little a note not to look into doing business with those folks anymore. But it's been pretty good all in all. We've been happy and very satisfied and that's why we renewed with HMS again this year.

I've had TotalProtect for about five years. They've always done me right except for one time I got upset with them on my air conditioning, but they made it good. I was out of air conditioning for two weeks right after I got out of the hospital with surgery. They came across and did what they say they'd do. The air conditioning guy did a fantastic job and I really liked him. The refrigeration guy was really good, too. In addition, their representatives are great and they're always nice. On the other hand, a guy from Sears came out, fixed the stove but he did a rotten job. But other than that, getting a home warranty was the best move I've ever made and I'm not going to change. I'd definitely recommend TotalProtect.

When we had a water heater go out and a dishwasher control panel wouldn't work, they were covered. The technicians that were sent out did their job efficiently and the HMS claims reps have always been friendly and courteous. I also had a plumbing issue that when we flush the toilet, it's a big bubble. The plumber that came went out to his truck and called some guy and the guy said more often than not, it's how they plumbed the house with the vent's tack. Without fixing it, he gave us an idea what I needed if I want to do it myself because it's not something that would be covered under the warranty.

So I've had good rapport with everybody that's come in. Their quality of work was good although I wish that the guy would've fixed what's wrong with the toilet. But everybody else has been real nice and pleasant. When I asked the gentleman that did the water heater about the toilet, he said it's a clog. But when I called the plumber, it wasn’t something he could have done. He said it's not a clog but something in the vent. Those were the only three issues we've had but overall, I'm very satisfied with HMS.

The realtor recommended getting a home warranty. He said it's been a godsend to a lot of people. The lady who owned the house before us had TotalProtect and when we bought the house, she gave me the information. We signed right up and later found out it had a good rep. I submit claims online and as far as I can tell, the process is full-proof. I go on the internet to log in, say what's wrong and then, they usually get back to me within 24 hours and within 48 hours, it's fixed. We haven't had anything like furnaces but we've had several appliances like washers, dryers, door openers and dish machine.

What really impressed me is they do not send out some handyman. They send out Sears or real companies to fix the stuff and it's amazing. They're professional and all of them have been extremely friendly and polite. The gentleman that came out a few weeks ago for the dish machine had fixed the machine years ago with the original owner and he remembered the house and the machine. It was so nice to have that continuity because you never know who's really coming and when you get somebody that's been here before and he's so friendly, it takes some of the fear out of doing this. You also hear horrible stories from Craigslist but TotalProtect eliminates all that problem. They send somebody and they guarantee it.

Also, their work exceeds expectations. They fix the problem and issues that they've noticed are gonna happen like one time, the technician noticed the clogged drain so he cleared that for me. When they do stuff like that for you, it's really nice. Then, I look at the bill and I'm saving hundreds of dollars each time one of these guys walk in the house. Everything is fixed right the first time. It's awesome and I'm very pleased. The reps may call to ask a question but they're very polite and courteous and it's a non-issue.

It's so pleasant to not have to worry about Angie's List if you're gonna get ripped off or if it is gonna get fixed. There may be some out-of-pocket, depending on the issue like when we had the water heater replaced, that was very upfront. But they explained everything and you can always say no. But, I'm a little bummed about the $100 service call. It used to be about $70 so, that keeps going up but so does everything else. All in all, TotalProtect is well worth the price and you're crazy not to do it, especially if your home is 10 or 15 years old.

We were given free of cost for the first year with HMS when we bought the house. We've had good service with them so we have continued their coverage for the last 14 years now. However, there are some difficulties when submitting a claim because when you don't get a human being, you have to take down whatever number they give you and then call and tell them that this is not the person you want because your problem has been always dealt with another company. Then, get that company's number, which takes two phone calls and a lot of time. There should be something on the menu of service that when you wish to speak to a human being, you should be connected.

But so far, it's been good with the technicians. We haven't had a bad one. We had one person whose number they gave us and he couldn't come for two weeks. So, I had to call and get another number. HMS should know if the contractor can come right away if it's an emergency, within a few days rather than after a few weeks. But the boiler company has been fabulous. And we use the same company for the washer, too, which was incidental that they sent the same name to me. They turned out to be very good, too, so I highly recommend them. I would recommend HMS and I did recommend them recently to somebody. We are satisfied.

The work that they've performed has been good. The last claim that I submitted was an emergency claim because my water heater had broken and it was flooding my house. I called HMS, but they couldn't get anybody to me for over four hours or even another day. So, I finally convinced them to let me call an emergency company. They did and I was reimbursed.

However, it would be better if they'd have somebody here when I need them. I remember the time before the last that I called. They sent me a technician from Magnolia, Arkansas, which is 130 miles from where I am in Pine Bluff, and that technician couldn't get here on the scheduled date. It took three days for me to finally be told that the technician couldn't make it, and I had to call back. Finally, HMS sent somebody to me from here in town. So, I didn't understand why they didn't start with the one in town first.

Total Protect/ Cross Country did in fact contact me and offer a more acceptable solution to my claim settlement. After further review of my claim, they acknowledged that what was originally offered was not comparable and agreed to reimburse the difference between the first offer and more comparable unit.

    Original Review: March 20, 2017

I would not recommend Total Protect or Cross Country Insurance at all. They have the absolute worst service. I have had my warranty for a few year, my washer failed. First the company they referred me to for the repair, made me pay the service call fee up front because they said they have issues with collecting from Total Protect and Cross Country. I got thru that after paying upfront for service call. Total Protect opted to replace rather than repair, BUT wanted to replace my 11 cycle and 9 specialty cycle black stainless Electrolux washer with white Ge washer that was not in anyway comparable. the pedestal would not be replaced, so they in essence offered a white Ge brand that would sit on the floor next to my pedestaled Electrolux! I was told a supervisor was too busy and would call after 24 hours. After speaking to a supervisor who said my washer was white according to her records and asked me to send pictures, which I did within 5 min. I was told she would send it back to the review/research team, and they would find a more comparable washer. I was contacted the next day with the exact same offer as the original one and told a comparable appliance was not available in my area. I will be ending service with this company as soon as possible, and I do not recommend anyone use this company.

HMS Home Warranty came with my house and we have them for six years now. Their service was fine so I didn’t feel a need to change. Submitting a claim to them is super easy and I like how they respond in email with the person’s phone number. I don’t have to wait for them to contact the person for the person to call me. However, the worst element that ever has to be repaired is air-conditioning because it’s the most complex thing in the house. I had an install done last year and 375 days later, it needed to be repaired again.

My issue is managing the date of expectation because if I open a claim and the vendor has to go back and get approval for anything, it is unclear to me what the approval timelines are. They’ll say they have 48 hours but they don’t really mean it because they only work 8-hour days. So, the 48 hours actually translates to six working days, which gets to at least eight lifetime days. The customer service agents do not know those standards at all nor do they know how to explain them. If I knew what the standard was and if I understand why it was that way, then I could manage my own expectations. Nevertheless, they're fine overall. They’re comparable on price and delivery, and their electronic portal is getting better.

However, the technicians ordered the part that was needed, put it in and the washer still wouldn't work. They looked around, found what they needed but it was a defective part. It started to work for about one load of wash and the second one, I had to wring it all out by hand again. They came back the third time with a new part to get it fixed. It was a real hassle that I was without a washer for about three weeks with all the running back and forth in getting the parts. I had to go to the laundromat, bag everything up and take it down, and then put it in the washers and stand there and wait on it, and bag it back up and cart it back home. It's also expensive that I was shelling out money to do it and it's time-consuming. But they finally got it.

Another situation I've had to use TotalProtect was something on the door was broken. The guy that came had the right part in his truck, so he went out, brought it in and we're good to go. Whenever I've called in to submit claims, they were able to get things going right away and usually, they provide a pretty fast service of getting a repairman out depending on how busy they are.

When I bought my house in 1999 the warranty came with it for a year and we renewed it. I just call the toll-free number and report my issue with the customer service rep. And then they typically give me a number to call, whether it'd be an electrician or whomever, depending on what the problem is. They give me a claim number and then I call and make the appointment. And then the service person comes out and I give them the claim number and pay my $100 deductible. Their service technicians were fine and the quality of their work was good. It doesn't always work that smoothly, though.

There have been times when it was incredibly difficult. There was a stove that was sent out, then it was the wrong size. I had to have them come back and get it. Came out, again, it was wrong. I had to call and call and call the customer service. When I would say, "Can I talk to your manager, there's a problem." They wouldn't call me back. It was horrendous. They would tell me things and they didn't follow through. It was very difficult to communicate. I would be talking to a different person every time. I was incredibly frustrated. But I'd already paid for my annual premium. If I didn't follow through, then I wouldn't have gotten what I needed.

But, this is before they switched over to this new customer service. The last time I submitted a claim it has been easy. They outsource the customer service now and it's a hundred times better than what it used to be. The last time, the woman said, "I'm going to make the call to the service people for you." I'm like, "Really?" And so she called them direct. It was like a breath of fresh air and they're friendly and caring, all the things you want a customer service rep to be. I never felt that way before. The service was nothing like that.

I purchased a home two years ago. My Realtor said I should have a home warranty and she suggested I go with HMS. Every time I've had an experience with them, they're great. When I called to submit a claim, I got a claim number right away. The people that they contacted to work on my issue called right away and it was resolved quickly. The reps were very professional and helpful.

I just bought a house and my washer/dryer broke down. I called HMS and they got me a plumber right away. He showed up the next day as scheduled, and I paid him a deductible. He then walked out the door and I never heard from him again - he never sent in the required paperwork to HMS so that they could assess and process my claim. I called the plumber and HMS again and again - more than a dozen times over two weeks - to try to get the paperwork in. They did nothing to help me. Every time I talked to HMS they just said "we can't do anything until we get the paperwork from the plumber." From time to time they also offered to "escalate" my problem to the regional coordinator, or a contractor manager, or some other person, but nothing happened. Supervisors never returned my calls.

Finally the authorizations team agreed to look up my washer/dryer model and figured out that they'd have to replace it (the plumber never did send in the paperwork). That set off a whole different set of hassles. HMS refused to offer me comparable appliances - I had compact units and they would only give me a full-size replacement that wouldn't fit in the house. Which means that I was obliged to take the credit instead of the replacement. But then when I got the written confirmation, the amount of the credit for the each of the units was $100 less than they said it would be. So I had to embark on yet another set of phone calls to HMS.

It turns out that the $100 discrepancy was "a mistake in their system." They swear they weren't just deliberately rip me off! But of course I had to wait days for a supervisor to manually make the correction. And I never actually got a phone call from the customer service supervisor that I'd been requesting over and over again. Next time one of my appliances breaks I will absolutely pay for it out pocket rather than try to deal with HMS again. I guess that makes me a success story for their customer service department!

Updated on 05/15/2017: I had to call them back for a second appliance problem and had an equally disappointing result. My water heater is making a loud popping noise that my general contractor told me I needed to get checked out. I didn't think it was covered by my warranty, because the heater is still working and this sounded like a maintenance issue. So I called HMS, asked whether it was covered, and was informed that indeed it was. So they sent out a plumber, who looked at the heater, couldn't find a problem, and said it must be a problem with the boiler. So HMS sent out an HVAC guy, who of course couldn't find anything wrong and said that it must be a problem with the water heater.

When I called HMS to find out what happens next, they bounced me up to their case management department, who told me that my problem wasn't covered anyway. They also pointed out that their repair person had overcharged me, given that he hadn't actually conducted any repairs. End of my very helpful interaction with HMS. This pretty typical - spend money, go to a lot of trouble, and end up right back at square one (except poorer and more frustrated than when you started). To be fair, HMS has promised to go back and listen to the audio of my call to see whether I was told that the issue was covered when I originally called in to file the claim. But I think the odds of them actually doing that are zero.

HMS came with the house when we bought it and we've had it for 15 or 20 years. To submit a claim, I go on to the internet, tell them what the issue is and then they assign a company to come out and look at my issue. Then, I pay my deductibles to the company when they arrive. I've also tried calling them and their reps are fine and they're very friendly. Also, it's always been pleasant with the technicians they've sent out. The quality of work is good and if it wasn't, I'd call back and complain. They've always been very helpful overall.

When I bought my place in 2010, it came with the free first year of HMS Home Warranty and so far, it has been a good service. I had a few problems, but that was with the contractor that was sent out here. When I called in for a claim on the furnace, the guys they sent out didn't know what they were doing. They got the $100 deductible then they came up with some excuse, left and we never heard from them. But the other contractor, Mallorick, was really professional and fixed the furnace within the day. That's why I requested for them to come out when the other contractor came up with an excuse of a bird was stuck in the flue. Mallorick went back and got it fixed. There was just something hung up there, but he got it unstuck and didn't have to take anything apart. So HMS is really good about getting everything straightened out. They were really nice and helpful, and I like the whole warranty service. I'd recommend them.

If anything happens, I can have that extra coverage with TotalProtect. They were always on point. They came right out when we called in and say that we need something to be appraised. It was an easy process because when I called them, they went ahead and scheduled a serviceman to the address. TotalProtect has been great.

With TotalProtect, I haven't had any problems in getting things fixed. I call them and they were very friendly. Also, the technicians that they sent out did quality work. Over a month ago, my brand new dishwasher went out on me and TotalProtect replaced it. I paid them $75 and that was all it cost me. They do what they say and I'm really happy with them.

I bought TotalProtection plan to have support when I have an issue with any home appliance. I put a claim to repair my microwave, they sent Sears technician, he broke the vent of the microwave, I paid the deductible and now I have a broken microwave. TotalProtection says I have to claim Sears, since they were the provider (sent by TotalProtection) and now I have to send photos of the damages and two (2) professional estimates on company letterhead for the repairs to be reviewed by the claim company.

I trusted totalprotect, but they disappeared and sent me to deal directly with claim company and request estimates to repair a microwave that was supposed to be repaired under the warranty. After 3 months!

    Updated on 07/18/2017:
I did a claim on 3/13/17 in Consumer Affairs with no answer.

They told me they were to change my microwave, after several months of the same claim. The date of the delivery date they called the microwave was broken on the delivery and they need to order a new one. After that they disappear and never answer my calls. I had to cancel my plan and they never replace the microwave their provider broke:

After a lot of back and fourth with the company, it has finally been resolved. I finally got in contact with a representative by the name of Heather and she is WONDERFUL! She had my situation resolved in less than a few hours, Heather has saved me as a customer. She was very professional and followed up with me timely after receiving documentation that she requested, she even informed me of more coverage under my policy that my repair qualified for.

    Original Review: March 13, 2017

I wish there was a way to give 0 stars. Customer service is horrible every one gives you different information. Filed a claim for two toilets and a shower valve. filing the claim was easy but getting the claim paid or even acknowledge was the WORST! They sent out a plumber right away that demanded my deductible before he even looked at what needed to be done he accepted the job and said he would be able to fix it then he turned rude. He showed up when no one was home then called my cell phone and yelled about no one being there for him to complete the job when I arrived to let him in he jacked up the toilets more and left calling total protect back and giving them a crap story about not being able to fix the shower valve because they need to tear down a wall. Called total protect spoke to 3 reps that offered different information until I got frustrated and asked to speak to member service to cancel my policy. When I spoke to member services I was again given different information and was told that if I found someone to do the work they would pay out what they were going to pay the person that they sent that couldn't do the job, so I agreed. Called back a few days later after having the job complete and ONCE AGAIN received different information that member services misinformed me, AGAIN I asked for member services and was kept on hold for over 45 minutes. I would never recommended this rip off plan to not even my worst enemy.... WHAT A JOKE!

When I moved into my home 20 years ago, my furnace had gone out and I had to give up $10,000. So I did some research and found out about TotalProtect Home Warranty. They can service my appliances and I just pay X amount of dollars a month. I have submitted a claim for my washer and dryer, and some plumbing issues. I normally do it over the phone because I like talking to people. The process was very fast. I'm not on hold a very long time before I can get to a representative. The reps were very friendly and helpful. And they give me three references when I call them.

Every contractor that they sent out has been very professional and prompt. I only had an issue one time when my furnace had gone out during winter. They had to do something outside and replace the coil. But the guy wasn't reliable. He kept saying, "I'm on the job. I'm coming." And we were in here freezing. But otherwise, my 20 years with TotalProtect has been great. I would definitely recommend TotalProtect to friends and to all homeowners.

Our heat pump quit working right before Christmas 2016. We contacted our service guy and he indicated that it was a total loss so we contacted Total Protect Home warranty about the replacement of our heat pump since we had a contract with them. Ever since, we have gotten nothing but the run around from their service department and customer service. Call and wait on hold for 1/2 hour or more, calls get dropped so you have to start over.... We were without a heat pump for more than 6 weeks while they tried to find someone to come and service or replace our unit. The first company from Virginia, the state we live in, never called, never showed for appointments. The second company was from out of state and could not do the permitting and inspection because they were unlicensed in Virginia. After weeks of chasing this around and finally getting a quote from one of their out of state vendors, we determined to get this work done ourselves and there was an agreement that they would pay a cash settlement once we had paid for the service and submitted documentation. We submitted all of the documentation they told us we needed for our payment, service and replacement of the heat pump on February 19th. Contacted Total Protect today, March 12th, to find out where our reimbursement check was and they are requesting further documentation, even items that were included in the documents we submitted, more runaround. More stalling tactics every time we contact them..... further deception and delay in an already awful case of customer service and support......we are totally exasperated with this company and would recommend that you run away and take your home warranty needs to another company.....
