A friend told me how good TotalProtect was, how his water heater in his town home had went and how they came over and took care of his water heater. I told him it sounded like a good plan. Submitting claims to them have been really easy. I used to call but the one that I had on my water heater was the first time I ever went to the computer and did it. As soon as I put the claim in, they came back to me with a claim number and the company who would be doing the work. They were always on-time and found out what the problem was - either replace a fuse in my refrigerator or my air-conditioning unit. I've also had electrical problems with the washer and dryer.

I've only had a problem since this last time with the water heater with the company that was chosen to come here and work on the water heater. They said I had a burned out element and it took them about 10 days to come back and put the element in. They kept telling me they were coming and then didn't show up, or call me. Then they showed up and said they were here to put the element in without calling and telling me they were coming.

Nevertheless, the work has been great. When they finally put the element in eventually, I turned the water on and it was getting hot so I'm assuming that the element worked right. I recommended TotalProtect to many of my friends and I've had at least two sign up. They've been good to us that we haven't had any problems with our claims being take care of rapidly and on-time. The companies they work with and their customer service are good. Every time I would call up or we get in touch with them, they were very professional.

When I bought this house in December 2015, the homeowners offered the HMS Home Warranty. And right before it was up, we put the house on the market. So, with the house being a 26 year-old house, it was no-brainer to offer it to the potential new buyers. Of the two times I've used them, I've had no problems. However, this last time, I don't know where the miscommunication was, but I got a couple of phone calls after it was over, wanting to know if I was satisfied or if the work had been done. I didn't mind answering the phone call once, but I kept getting phone calls and it got a little irritating.

When I called both times, someone picked up the phone, started the claim and then gave me someone to contact, which I contacted. However, the last one was a bit tricky because I didn't know whether it was an electrical issue or a plumbing issue. So, having a 50-50 chance to call the correct tradesman, the first time I chose was wrong. I called the plumber and he came out here and I had to pay him the $100 deductible. And then an electrician came out, changed the circuit breaker and fixed the problem. They did waive me having to pay another deductible because it was all part of the same problem. But it took a bit of coaxing the supervisor to be convinced that I shouldn't have to pay two deductibles. The technicians have all been great. I haven't had any super huge issues where big things have to be replaced. So, hopefully I don't have to. But if I do, it'd be nice to get the same type of treatment and respect. But so far, it has been good.

My wife's cousins got TotalProtect and they researched it and said it was pretty good. I got the information from him and I looked it over. I talked to the people there and they said it was a good thing, so that's what I wanted and I went on. The first claim we had was when we had that sewer guy come out here and do the work. It was bad. The guy came up four times and still didn't get it unplugged. I told them if they ever hire that guy to come out to my house again, I would drop them. I also told them he was taking them for a left and right but nobody would listen.

They didn't say anything about sending somebody else so, I hired this other person/company to do it. This guy that we hired came out and did it in 45 minutes. He had everything cleared out and put a new clean out. Now, our garage door went haywire and the guy they sent this time was good and did perfectly. So, the only bad thing we had was with that first company they sent. After that, it's been good so far.

I had asked the seller of our house for a recommendation to a home warranty company and they've referred us to HMS. Submitting a claim with them has been excellent. I've done both over the phone and online submission but I prefer to do it online if I can as it's faster. But it only takes a couple of minutes to get to somebody when I call, and my interactions with their reps are usually very quick and very precise. They are good at what they do. I give them my number and tell them what the problem is. They would give me a phone number and the contractor to get a hold of, and tell me to give them a shout if I have any questions. Then they send me a confirmation email.

The technicians are also very good and are very qualified. We've had plumbing, electrical, and heating and cooling issues, and I've been very pleased with the technicians that AHS sends out. When it's July in Florida and the air conditioner stops and it's 98 degrees to 98% humidity, it's terrible. I call AHS and they get somebody who comes right out. AHS has been great and the warranty has paid for itself numerous times. I have recommended them to friends. And they, including both of my children, have purchased the warranties.

TotalProtect Home Warranty is fairly easy to work with. I always call in my claims, and the worst part is getting someone on the phone. I did the last couple of claims through their automated machine and that went well. Typically the technician comes out within a couple of days, but it takes a while when they use the Sears service. If I had a problem with anybody, it's normally with the Sears people because they never have parts and they have to come back later. I've had that situation a couple of times over the years. I had a problem with one technician this month, but TotalProtect assigned it to another company and things were handled very promptly. 90% of the time the technicians are excellent. I'm happy with TotalProtect, and I constantly recommend them.

For about two years now, we've been using HMS Home Warranty. The last time we tried to do a claim, it was for our commode. The contracted company here in Nashville came out but the tech didn’t even try to see what the problem was. He didn’t have any customer service at all and he assumed that somebody was playing on the commode and broke it. We’re the only two in the house. I’m 60 and my husband is 57. Who would be playing on the commode at that age to break it?

Water keep coming through my other bathroom and that’s when we found out that the flush was broken underneath the commode. I had to go and get things done myself. I had another plumber come out and look. In the end, we had two plumbers out. One didn’t do anything and I had to pay 200 and some dollars for the other one. I sent HMS an invoice of what the cost was and they said they were going to reimburse me. But I haven’t gotten it yet.

My daughter-in-law and my son had TotalProtect, and they recommended I get it when my husband passed away. And I did. I submitted an online claim when my furnace stopped working, and the process was very easy. I answered the questions, and they gave me a telephone number of who to call right away, which I did. It was a Friday night and they contacted me the next morning at around 8 o’clock and they were here by 10 o’clock.

The gentleman who came in was nice enough. It ended up it wasn’t my furnace. I needed batteries in my thermostat. I didn’t even know there were batteries in there. So I learned, and next time I’ll be changing them. I figured while he was at the house, maybe he could vacuum the furnace cover because he said it was dusty, but he wouldn’t do it. I thought that was strange. So I paid him his $100 and out the door he went. It was the most expensive three batteries I’ve ever spent in my life. But that had nothing to do with TotalProtect. In fact, they were great. I’m very pleased with them and have already recommended them.

Submitting claims is pretty easy and very efficient. Usually, I call in and explain that I have a problem. Then, they let me know whether it's covered or not. They recommend a service provider out in my area, I give them a call, they provide me a claim number, then the folks come out and do the repair. I get to book every year and I know what's covered and what's not, so usually there are no surprises. For example, I just had a water heater replaced and the installation that was done when it was initially put in many years ago doesn't meet today's code so they had to do some modifications and I know that they don't pay for that. It's an excellent service so I've been very satisfied.

HMS should notify the customers right away about the things that are not under warranty. They send the person to do the fixing and then say it wasn't under warranty to have the customer pay for the trip. Also, their claims reps are pretty friendly and they help but some of them are the pretty lazy type. But other than those, it's good. I don't see anything that I'm really disappointed with.

A home warranty was something I always wanted because when most homeowners purchase a home, they don't think about the breakdowns that happen during the process of paying for the home. A lot of times, those expenses are not accounted for. You can get so many problems in the home that just wears over, financially and mentally, and the home ends up vacant because you can't repair them because the money is not there. That's why I got a policy from TotalProtect and I liked their service.

Once you call TotalProtect's claims department to tell them what's going on, they give you a reference number, then they contact someone that is available within the area and get someone out. It's very simple and easy. It's better than going out yourself having to find someone. Moreover, the reps were very knowledgeable of their jobs and they show empathy for the problems that you're having. The contractors that they sent out were very good, fast and knowledgeable. TotalProtect has provided excellent service.

We have had our home warranty with HMS for 10 years. Up until this last year we had not had any concerns however we have not had to file many claims. This past year we have had to file 2. One for our dryer and this last one for our hot water heater. The service company used for the dryer was horrible. The service provider for the water heater is great however the warranty company has been horrible. It has been almost 2 weeks and we have no resolution and no hot water.

We have twin babies in our home and advised them of this when the water heater went out. We were told this was not an emergency but the turnaround time would be 3 days. Again we are at 10 days and they still haven't completed their process nor sent the required paperwork to order the water heater. I have spent over 8 hours on the phone with them as well as supervisors and the one hand doesn't know what the other is doing. The last supervisor Ty was rude and placed me on hold for about 10 minutes. The plumber is as aggravated as I am with the warranty as he has also been on the phone trying to get resolution and continues to get the runaround. We will not be renewing our warranty nor would I recommend them to anyone. The headache nor poor customer service is worth it.

I consistently re-up with HMS Home Warranty every year and I have two properties on it. It seems we get great service and it's been a good deal financially. Neither of the houses is brand new and so they do have the occasional requirement. It's nice having a single point of contact and I don't have to have primes and subs. I go to HMS and they fix whatever it is. There's a central number I call in and they contact me back with a referral to a local company who specializes in whatever the malfunction is and then I contact the company and give them the claim number I got from HMS. The contractor company comes out and makes the repair or gives an estimate, clears it with HMS if I say it's okay, and once they reconcile all that, they go ahead and conduct the work. If there are incidental or extraneous costs that aren't covered then I gotta pick up the difference, but it's usually de minimis.

I've never had a bad technician who comes out and they're always good. The last one I had was so outstanding. There's never a go-back with the work they perform and never had to do re-repair. I get that a lot when I had to deal with these things on my own as the techs don't show up or don't complete the repair or the estimate isn't what I get. But I get none of that with HMS. I highly recommend HMS and they take all the pain out of trying to manage the maintenance and repair of all the systems on my own.

We signed up for Total Protect Home Warranty in the fall and chose the more expensive option. In October, we submitted our first and only claim so far to repair our stove. We are now in March. We've had five technicians visit. Parts were ordered and some installed. Others never returned. There was never follow up to see if the problem was solved. Oh and the problem was that we were having to light the stove with a lighter. It won't start. October to March... and it still won't start. I called numerous times to follow up. Finally, they said they'd send out a new stove. It arrived today with the installation crew who said they can't install it because it's a non standard steel gas pipe and they only can install with flexible hoses. I called Total Protect again. They said from a steel pipe to a hose is an upgrade... and that I need to pay for a plumber to come out. Five months trying to solve this problem. 5 crews came out here. I have a stove in a box on our kitchen floor. I'm still lighting my stove manually. Here are my issues: 1/ there is no follow up. If I hadn't called, no one would have closed out my case. 2/ Bait and switch. When you sign up, they say it's all included, parts, service and everything. Once a guy comes out here, it's back and forth nonsense and no one takes ownership. Meanwhile, I keep paying out. A supervisor is supposed to call today. I'm ready to cancel the service. This should have been an easy fix.

HMS Home Warranty was a company that was recommended back in 2000, when I bought my home. My claim submissions were always very easy because I didn't have a lot of stuff to deal with. First of all, I'd always look in my booklet to see if the issue is covered. Then I would call and state whatever problem I had, and they would tell me if I could have it fixed. There was only one thing they told me wasn't covered, and it was a pipe that burst in the basement and froze, but they still sent a guy out. Anything else I've ever called them about, they've sent somebody and had the problem repaired or fixed. All their work is contracted.

I had a problem with my washer once. I called them and the tech from the first company they sent out told me it was mold. I'm not a washing machine tech, but where do I get mold from in a washing machine? I called them back and told them to send somebody else out. They did, and this other tech found out the problem. He said it was some oil in my bearing that was getting on my clothes, so HMS paid for a new washer. They gave me the total amount that I could purchase the washer for and I did.

Except for that one instance, all the contractors they've ever sent out to do any work were very nice and did their job. Most of what they've done was replacement, like my furnace, air conditioning system, and garbage disposal. I had a leak in my closet once, because I have copper piping and something had pinched the pipe, so there was a little leak. The tech repaired that part and I had to repair the wall after he opened it up, but the hole wasn't big. So far, I've had good service from them. If I have not, I wouldn't stay with them. I have also recommended them to other people.

I just unplugged the sump pump and let the backup pump take over. It was great to know that my HMS plan covers sump pump. So I filed a claim to HMS. HMS sent a service man to my house and replaced the old sump pump with a new one. When he did so, I was not home and my wife did. Once I came back from work, and checked the new pump, I found the power of backup pump was not working, and the power light was not even on.

I called HMS and let them know the situation, and I was told that they were going to send the same service man to come to check. Unfortunately, that night we had a thunderstorm, and in the morning, my basement was flooding. The service man came here and told me that the reason was the new pump was not working because of the floating switch was not good, and that the new pump was ordered by HMS. Meanwhile, the backup pump was not working, too.

Now HMS does not want to cover the power of backup pump, and does not want to cover the damage caused by the flooding in the basement, too. They kept saying that the insurance does not cover those. I just want to tell HMS that you should fix the problem you caused. You provided a crap pump, and sent a crap serviceman to fail my working backup pump, and now you told me that you had nothing to do with all the those?

I don't really know where the problem's lying. If there's something uncovered, it needs to be discussed between the two of them before it comes to me. And when I called in to talk to the warranty people, they told me to call the plumbers. That should all be happening before the work is done, not like they should be coming to me telling me I owe $90 now, and they're already gone.

Bank of America referred me to TotalProtect years ago, and I’ve been with them for over 10 years. I submitted a claim with them recently when the furnace went out at 1 o’clock in the morning. There was no flame to it, and I couldn’t get it to respond so I called TotalProtect that morning to let them know it was out. And then at 9:30 that morning, the furnace kicked back on. I was talking to the D & D Mechanical. They were going to come out here, but they said there’d be a service call and probably I’d be obligated to that. As long as the furnace is working, there’s not much sense in coming out. So, the gal at D & D Mechanical said they’d hold the work order in place through this week and see how it goes. If the furnace is still working, they’d just close it out.

I’m very pleased with the way they responded to me and to the guys that they send out. D & D Mechanical and Smedley Plumbing have been out here. In all cases, whoever they’ve referred out had very quality workmanship and everything’s been done fine. I have no problems with it at all. All in all, I’m totally satisfied with TotalProtect and I would not hesitate to recommend. In fact, I tell people how to get a hold of TotalProtect and get some insurance there.

HMS was part of the sale when I bought the house and I've had it since closing in August. I've submitted a claim once for my water heater. It was my first time and I did it online. It was fairly easy and their website is user-friendly. It was the Monday to Christmas and they got somebody out here the next day. The technician knew the area and knew what he was doing. He was very quick to get in, assess the problem and get the new water heater. He was done within an hour of coming back with the part.

I have been using HMS Home Warranty since I moved in last December. Their website is easy to use and it's also easy to submit a claim online. I just had to use the phone when I had no heat and the plumber said he was busy all day. So I had to call for another one. But their reps were very helpful on the phone and the plumbers or whoever I used were very good too. Even when I use somebody out of the network, they send me the difference or the money back quickly.

When we bought this condo, we asked for a home warranty and the realtor offered HMS Home Warranty. We accepted it and so far, I've only submitted one claim. It was for my furnace that went out which happened in December. Since I don’t have an email access and I wanted immediate response, I filed it over the phone which was easier. The claims reps tried to answer my questions. However, they were a little vague on the next step. The first woman I talked to said that I should hear from them within four hours. But I didn’t hear from them in eight hours, so I called back.

I know that a lot of companies end up using customer service people from other countries. The second woman that I spoke with had no idea where Indiana was. It didn’t register that a furnace was an important deal and I needed to get it fixed. So, I ended up calling someone. They just had to call and get approved. I was determined to get a response and get some service so the rep put it on an emergency status and said that I could go ahead and contact somebody. Up until that time, they didn’t know that I made a contact. I finally got somebody out here and they took care of it and it was perfect. They did a great job and they did what they needed to do. They were very timely, courteous and followed up. I’m satisfied with them. There was something else wrong with it from what I originally thought it was. And they went ahead and authorized that all in the same claim. We got our reimbursement check back yesterday. Overall, it was a good experience.

The seller purchased HMS Home Warranty when we bought the house in July. Submitting claims has been very easy. At first, we did it on the phone, but we've been doing it online the last two times since it's a very simple procedure doing it on the computer. The service people that came have been very knowledgeable and fixed the problem. We've had some issues with our refrigerator, freezer, dishwasher and the air conditioning, and they've all been repaired very well. However, we're still having some issues with the refrigerator and freezer. They've been here a couple of times for that and it's functioning well right now, so we're monitoring it. Other than that, I've been very happy with the service and the follow-up. Also, I've recommended a couple of people that they look into this company.

TotalProtect sent me something through the mail and I was with American Home Shield at the time. It seemed like the rate was a little cheaper so I decided to try them out. I usually submit my claims on the phone which is an easy process. And the reps I spoke with and the techs who came out were very professional. One of the techs even had to go up in the attic during a repair. I'm pleased with their service.

However, when a service guy came to fix my air conditioning unit in winter time, I mentioned to him that the whole unit wasn't working as well when it was warm. He told me that he saw what the problem was and that he would order the parts. But when I spoke to the person in the office because I didn't hear anything else about it, the rep told me that she didn't see anything on the report about that. Then she was explaining that since it was a problem, even though it was the same system but it was winter time that they would have to do a separate order when it gets hot. However, I was kind of disappointed that the tech didn't pass on the information that he told me he was going to pass on. Except for that little incident, the service people that TotalProtect sent over have been quick and timely whenever I called in my order.

HMS replaced our old Rheem hot water heater with an American Hot Water Heater after it started to leak. The American brand hot water heater was noticeably different when it was installed, hot water was slow to flow, it was only 98 degrees at its hottest and it produced enough hot water for a 5-minute shower, a load of laundry, or washing dishes before having to wait for the heater to build up more hot water. HMS took our calls but never took any action. They promised a return phone call but never called back.

Now that the American Hot Water Heater they provided just over six months ago is not currently functioning at all. I am being told that since it is past six months, I have to go through the manufacturer warranty process to have it repaired or replaced. HMS told me the responsible thing would be for me to hire a repair company, have it diagnosed and then contact the manufacturer American Hot Water. That is why I continue to annual pay HMS Home Warranty fees for them to take care of these types of things, especially when they provide an inferior replacement Water heater from a company that has documented poor quality products and issues honoring their product warranties. HMS should be taking care of this issue, not forcing me to deal with the manufacturer.

The home warranty company had to send out a different company to fix my furnace because the initial company (Reeves) kept saying they couldn't find the part and kept miss informing the warranty company. The new company that was sent out fixed our furnace the same day they came out. When I spoke with a supervisor from the warranty company, she assured me that they were looking into the complaint that we had against Reeves and more so because they kept giving them the wrong information.

    Original Review: Feb. 20, 2017

This complaint is in regard to the companies that TotalProtect sends out to fix whatever's broken. They sent Reeves air conditioning and heating out and it is going into week 3 and our furnace still hasnt been fixed. When we called them (Reeves), the lady is very unprofessional and has an attitude when questions are asked. The guy from Reeves came out to fix our furnace and was up there for 2.5 hours only to come down and say that the warranty company ordered the wrong part. Why it took 2.5 hours for him to figure that out is beyond me. Frustrated with the treatment and customer service, we go online to look up the company's reviews and they are horrible. So now my frustration is also with TotalProtect because it seems like they should do an evaluation of customer satisfaction with the companies they dispatch to fix claims. On Thursday (2/16/17) the lady from Reeves called and said that they were picking up "the right" part for our furnance and that the technician would be out to fix our furnace on Monday (2/20/17) between 1pm-5pm. Well it is now Monday and currently i am waiting for the technician to call or come, as I write this review...mind you, it is now 4:48pm and we have not seen or heard from anyone but as soon as we call (either the warranty company or Reeves) i bet that there is going to be some lame excuse as to why no one showed rather than taking responsibility for the lack of professionalism. Also, I want to add that when I called TotalProtect Thursday (2/16/17), i asked how do i put in a complaint against the warranty company and Reeves and the customer Rep said that a supervisor would call me back. No one has called, hence this review. It's funny how there is never an issue for either company to make sure payment is made on time but can't make sure to get the work done in a timely matter. This is going into week 3 of this claim. I have a 2 year old and thankfully the weather hasn't been too cold or too hot or we would be ** out of luck.

When I bought my house, the seller had a one year warranty from HMS and it was transferred to me. I've renewed the warranty every year and this is my eighth year. I stuck with HMS because the price is reasonable. Moreover, I get a quick turnaround when it comes to reporting a problem that I have to customer service. I don't like getting the runaround when trying to get something repaired.

Their claims reps are very informative. They would ask specific questions, take my information and sign the ticket while I'm on the phone. They always offer to try and reach out to the service provider to contact me. I had one vendor that I had to call repeatedly to schedule an appointment but still, all the other times that I've had claims, I've gotten a quick response. Also, there was a little confusion when I submitted a claim online. If I have more than one request, I didn't know if I could combine them into one ticket or I should make one ticket per request. Once I figured that part out, it was a smooth process.

I had two different problems. One was electrical and the other was for garbage disposal. Both of their guys came and provided great customer service. They assessed the problem and quickly did what they needed to do to repair. The electrical guy was extremely knowledgeable. I had some other problems and was thinking of submitting a claim. He told me that it was not going to be covered and offered some suggestions on alternative motors so I can solve my problem.

The plumber took the extra step of replacing a part which I had purchased with no additional charge. I was planning on doing it myself but he said that since he already had opened the toilet, he'd swap the part out for me. That was unusual but I really appreciated that. I always recommend HMS to my friends. I like their quickness and their communication process.

A year or two before we acquired a home warranty, I had moved in with my mother and she had a whole bunch of plumbing issues under the kitchen sink. Pipes had broken, and this cost us a lot of money. I'm on disability and she's a senior citizen, so it was very difficult for us and we figured the warranty was worth the money in paying for repairs in case that happened again. We signed up with TotalProtect and when the tech came out for the electrical work, it only cost us $85.

However, the only problem we had when we submitted the claim was with the payment and that was kind of a bummer because the tech was supposed to be coming out that day but then he told us that we couldn't pay the way that we intended. The paperwork said that we could pay the $85 fee with cash or credit card when the tech comes out. Our local town hall's Human Services Dept. was helping us with the payment and they were going to put it on the credit card. The lady at the Human Services Dept. gave me her cell phone number so that when he got here, she was going to pay with the company credit card from town hall. But when the electrician called me that morning, he said that he would only take a check or cash, and that he wouldn't take a credit card payment which is strange for a company. The claims representatives were also surprised that he wasn't taking a credit card payment.

So, it took us an extra two weeks for the tech to come out. We were partially without electricity for two weeks, having electricity in half the house and not having it in half, because we had to go through the town hall, and he had to call them and submit an invoice. The town hall had to keep records through their Human Services Dept. and they weren't just going to give us cash, and they needed his license ID number, so then they had to cut a check for us.

Finally, when the tech came out, he found the problem and the repair work was all done in 45 minutes. I told him about an outlet in the living room that I had seen burn. Otherwise, if I hadn't told him that, it probably would have been a lot much longer process because he said, "Oh, thanks for telling me," and that's exactly where the problem was. As soon as he opened that outlet, he found that the wires had fried and he fixed that within 10 minutes, then he was ready to go downstairs and replace fuse boxes. The lights came right back on. There was also a light in our kitchen that had been out for two years, that another electrician told us we had to have totally rewired, and after he did the electrical work, that light came on, too. I'm definitely going to call TotalProtect again if we have any other issues.

Not to mention the replacement part arrived on the 11th of January and sat on my kitchen floor for 8 days until the first repair man could even come (on 19th)for what I was told would take about 2 1/2 hours. A total of five repair men counting the repair main to diagnosis the problem and still without refrigerator. I finally reach a supervisor that finally gave the correct information. After calling every day after being told the turn around time for the decision would take 7-8 (already 22 days without a refrigerator). the replacement check finally arrived the Fed-X fee was deducted from the check amount, can you believe that? Claim amount for 1000.00, appliance cost plus fees was 989.00. TotalProtect Home Warranty sent me something through the mail and I chose them because they are cheaper than the one I had before. They also got more coverage than the other I used to have. Submitting a claim is easy. I've been doing it over the phone and the reps are friendly. The last technician that we had did a good job but the one before, when I had trouble with my shower, is not so good. We recommend TotalProtect.

We got a one-year contract with HMS in May and we've had submitted claims several times already. Each time we've had a claim, we phoned in. It's been a very easy process and we've been very pleased with the experience. We've had them out twice for our HVAC and once for the air conditioning. And also a couple of times for the heat and the furnaces. The most recent claim that we had was for the dishwasher. They came out the same day, which was really common with them. The tech was very knowledgeable, knew exactly what was going on, and figured it out pretty quickly. It turned out that it was just poor maintenance by the previous owner. It was clogged up pretty badly and he cleaned it all out for us. He got it running so I was quite pleased with that.

Total Protect was suggested to me by my daughter. I've had them for about 8-10 years and it's easy to submit a claim. Most times, I call in and someone takes the claim. The last two times, I’ve been denied because it wasn’t something that was covered but for the most part, the majority of them have been taken care of. Their reps are very helpful and have explained things. When they say my claim is not covered, I'd check in the manual and that's what it says.

The technicians have been friendly. If they have to order a part, they tell me and it comes on the time that they had indicated it. They've come back and repaired it. Total Protect's copay has gone up and things are much more expensive these days. I wouldn’t have been with it as long as I have if I’m having problems with the service. The overall value of their warranty is good. I have recommended them to a friend.

When I went to my bank they had a thing over there talking about TotalProtect and I saw what it had covered if you had that type of program so I signed up for it. I had an electrical problem and the guy who came out was pleasant. I told him that the light switch on the wall wasn't working. But when he checked it out he said there was nothing wrong. Then he said he went around the room and behind my entertainment center is where the problem was. He told me he changed the wall socket over there and that I wouldn't have any more problems.

I had done my outdoor decorations for Christmas, waited to get dark so I could turn it on and see how it looked. So, the first night I turned them on and I was satisfied with what was done. Then the next night I went to turn on my Christmas tree light in the house and it wouldn't come on. I looked outside and nothing outside had come on too. I called the man and told him the problem. This was on a Saturday night when I called and he went to tell me, “We don’t work on weekends," and he said I would have to pay him the money for coming out after hours. He then said he would call me back Monday, but I didn’t hear anything from them until it was Wednesday. They called and wanted to set up an appointment but they would come out on Thursday. I told them, "Don’t even worry about it."

So then I just moved from one side of the room to the other and put the Christmas tree up. I ran one of those heavy cords behind my sofa. I did that and I went in the back way because I had that outlet to the back on my deck and I used that to hook my lights up outdoors. That went on until when I put it up again. In December I called and a nice man from Relay came out. He changed some outlets for me and fixed some places. Then everything went out upstairs so I called TotalProtect and they told me to call the man back because I had 180 days. So he came back and he went through the house and checked. Since then I haven’t had any more problems out of that. I would recommend TotalProtect.

HMS Home Warranty was recommended by the realtor when we bought a property. We just trusted that and we've been very happy with it. We have one claim. The water heater was leaking, I called and they immediately took care of it. No big hassle, they said, "We'll get an appointment... here's the person. We'll have them call you and set up the time." They approved whatever needed to happen and they talked to the people that came out. Their claims representatives were very knowledgeable. They knew what I needed to do, they're really amazing.

The people that installed the new water heater were magnificent and we're really pleased. All the young guys work for Joe Lay Company. I was amazed at their talent and ability to do some plumbing. They were young men, probably 20-something. They didn't waste a lot of time fixing it and they were very respectful of my questions. Just really a great experience. It was definitely a pleasant interaction. This experience makes me want to maintain the warranty. It would be nice to keep in case there is another problem. Overall they really did a fantastic job. You hear how insurance companies run into all kinds of trouble. People talk about that. I've never talked to anybody that had really such a good experience as I had, so I was wowed!

The people that I bought my house from passed HMS over to me and I've had it for at least 16 years. I stuck with them because it covers everything. I always call for my claims, then they give me a claim number, and give me a company's number. But HMS call them too and set up an appointment. And then, if they set up an appointment for me, they call me back immediately to tell me the details. The last time I submitted a claim, my sink was leaking. They came out and it took a couple of days to do the job. It wasn't a problem because I had a bucket under the sink, so it wouldn't drip anywhere. The repair guy was a very nice man, and he actually installed my water softener here a couple of years ago.

HMS saves me a lot of money. The furnace and heat pump cost is very expensive. It would range about $8,000, but they put all that in for me for $300. I had to pay them $100 and a different wiring cost for another 200 bucks, which was fine with me because I got a new furnace and heat pump. So, I am very happy with HMS.

It took a while for them to get out here, which I was concerned at because I care for my 88-year-old aunt. But I do have a fireplace and I do have an electric heater that I put in her room. The problem was that first, they said it was the master computer chip. Then they came and brought a new one and brought it back and my furnace still wouldn't start.

It was also confusing 'cause I called the office and I said they told me they would have the part in by Monday but no one's called me yet. The rep said, "No. According to my paperwork, your work order is completed." And I said it's not. So, she called technician back and she called me back. She said she couldn't read the guy's writing. So, they made me an appointment and they came out again. And that time, he was here around three hours working, trying to figure out why he couldn't get the furnace to start. But he kept working on it and he finally figured it out and it's worked fine since. The tech did a great job.

I signed a contract with Total Protect because of an endorsement I received from my credit union Pentagon Federal. I have had this contract approximately 2 years. The fist time I submitted a claim they were pleasant and responded promptly with solving the problem. However, I recently submitted another claim regarding the overflow drainage pan on my water heater. I know this because my homeowners insurance adjuster looked at the issue and determined that was the problem. So instead of filing a claim with my adjuster which would have been more than my deductible ($500) my adjuster suggested I contact Total Protect to do the necessary repairs. After submitting the referral a technician was dispatched and afterwards I received a phone call from a Total Protect representative who identified herself as Chelsea. She stated the call was being recorded and proceeded to tell me that I would have to pay $975.00 for permits and code compliance according to Section 4, para 5 of my contract indicating the hot water heater needed to be replaced. I asked her how much did it cost to replace the unit including labor,, she stated she was not allowed to disclose that information. I then explained to her I don't understand how the unit needed to be replaced when my homeowner insurance adjuster stated it only needed a minor repair. She became argumentative and I told her that I was not going to have the service done. She then stated that I could still have the service done and they would cover up to $675 in repairs if I chose to use a different company. Within, 15 minutes later she called back and stated Total Protect would not be able to do anything because the unit was installed incorrectly. Question, how did the unit go from needing to being replaced, to being not part serviceable because it was installed incorrectly? Totally confused I asked to speak with a supervisor. She transferred the call to a supervisor named "Tai", who basically said nothing but confirmed what Chelsea stated. Needless, to say I will not be using their service to resolve this issue as it stands. Hopefully, someone from Total Protect will respond to this complaint and a resolution will be met. I kinda got the feeling they wanted me to cancel my contract with them.

I've been with TotalProtect for years. I'm getting up in age and I can't do the things I used to do. The cost of repairs today and getting repairman are astronomical. So with a big house and a lot of appliances, it seemed reasonable that we get a home warranty. I'm satisfied with the service I've received. I've submitted claims several times over the years. Usually, I place a phone call, I get a quick connect and a reference to whatever it is I need, and within the first couple of hours everything is established as far as when things will be repaired or scheduled.

I have had some difficult repairs in the past, one with the freezer malfunctioning. TotalProtect sent a repair guy out, put a fix on it, and within 30 days, it didn't work. They sent another guy out and this happened four or five times and the fix would last only about a month. I told TotalProtect to not send the repair person to my house anymore. Several people came out and they didn't seem to have the wherewithal and a knowledge base to put a complete fix. It's annoying because it's a freezer and you've got food in there. So, they sent me someone else.

The fellow came out and before I could tell him what was done, he said he already knows and named the company. He said most of his repairs are repairing what the other contractor does. He fixed the freezer. It's been a couple of years now and it never happened again. If TotalProtect doesn't have a good repairman, I could wind up with a new refrigerator when it was a simple fix. It's to my benefit to a certain degree, but to TotalProtect, even with the amount of money I put into this all in all, it's still their loss.

I originally chose Total Protect because of the reviews. I should have listed to some of them about how they will do anything not to repair or replace what has failed. I had a recent new plan with them where it include my heat pump. Roughly 6 weeks later a notice the air coming out of my vents was no longer warm. Everything was in good working condition prior to signing up. When signing up, I asked when the inspection would take place. They told me it was not necessary as long as everything was in good working condition. I placed a claim with them and stated this plumbing, AC and heating company would be contacting me. They never did and I had to call this company. I will not mention this company's name. This ac/heating company shows up in an unmarked, no company named van. My first hint of a problem. The technician inspects my unit and stated I have a couple of leaks. Something to mention. He asked my what I thought the problem was when he showed up. If I was a professional AC/heating guy, I wouldn't have to hire anyone. Hint # 2. He came into my house and stated there should be no reason why this should not be approved by Total Protect. The next day I called Total Protect and they stated it was declined because of wear and tear and pictures showing rust and corrosion. I said that was really strange because this was a newer unit and I couldn't see any rust. I said I wanted to see the pictures and they said they didn't have them yet. Then the CSR stated they haven't received the pictures yet. Very strange! When I contacted the service company, the same technician was extremely rude and said he didn't have any pictures and basically hang up on me. I called Total Protect back and spoke to a supervisor. She kept on referring to something about how the link couldn't have happened in 10 days and this was caused by wear and tear. I didn't know a supervisor, wherever she was out, could determine when the leak occurred. Home warranty plans are meant to protect your property. You purchase plans for protection down the road. Everything has wear and tear and to tell someone it's not covered by wear and tear is a joke. I'm out approximately $268 for a broken heat pump and still not repaired. Yes, opt out of the plan and of course they charged me for that. You can hire this company if you like, but do you due diligence first.

I called HMS on 12/16/16 when my tenants notified me that the washer was not cycling appropriately. On 12/19/16 they sent a contractor, PAS, LLC, troubleshoot. The gentleman stated it was probably the timer or transmission but we notify the warranty company and get the part ordered; should take 7-10 business days. Realizing the timing and the holidays pending we expected longer and I set the expectations with my tenant. On 1/10, when neither my tenant or I had heard anything from the contractor I committed to calling HMS back for an update. I called on 1/11 and was informed that the contractor didn't even submit the diagnostic until 1/10. They approved the part that morning and committed to shipping. While I was out of town for work on 1/18, the contractor offered to come by in 2 days and I advised him that was unacceptable due the already unexplained wait.

They showed up on 1/19, installed the timer and told my tenant that it needed to charge for 30 mins then to call if the washer continued to not operate. It did not. As of today, 1/23, I had not heard from anyone and, mind you, my tenant has not been able to wash clothes since at least 12/16 so I call HMS back. The rep tells me that they approved an offer to replace the unit but could not tell me who offered this to me since I had just spoke to them 4 days prior. I accepted but was told that I need to contact GE Appliances to schedule delivery and install but the young lady could not provide me with GE's contact number. So I go to their website and pick 1 of 3 numbers listed. The GE rep tells me that warranty company calls in with model number, not the consumer. So I call HMS back.

The new rep tells me that now that I've accepted the offer HMS will place the order and it should take 4-5 consecutive days (I did ask about business vs consecutive days) for the replacement washer to arrive and be installed. Bottom line, HMS is poor at setting expectations, recognizing the inconvenience their or their contractor's incompetence and resolving, answering basic questions or managing these projects. I've made two claims in the 8 years I've owned this property and neither has been seamless or timely. My realtor questioned why we've kept them so long and this was before we had to make any claims. We told him that they haven't given us a reason to go elsewhere.

Today, after 2 calls into HMS today alone, I have no choice but to look at alternatives. I've spoken to their cancellation department and hope they've provide all that I need to know but my doubts are screaming. So I am setting funds to the side so I can cancel with this poor organization for both of my properties. It's worth it if they can't handle basic blocking and tackling.

I got a home warranty so if something gets broken, I don't have to worry about scrounging the fee and how I'm gonna get it repaired. When one goes out on retirement, sometimes they don't have the funds there. And being single, at least I have an insurance and it'll be less stress for me because all I have to do is pay the $100 deductible and TotalProtect will work from there as long as it's covered under their guidelines.

I knew of other home warranty providers, but I liked the TotalProtect sales rep. She explained the different policies that they had so I liked her customer service when she reached out to me. But I have had both good and bad scenarios with TotalProtect. The good scenario was when my water boiler and my heat went out. The salesperson who was on the other end tried to do their best to get somebody out here to assist me but unfortunately they had to come the next day.

What I don't like is the package that I have. There's something better out there that they were telling me. It's a little bit more money because to replace my water boiler, I had to give out the additional $100 for them coming out and about $600 something dollars to cover the upgrade. If I had known that they have another package out, I would have enrolled in that package where the only thing I would have been responsible for was just the $100. And this happened all around Christmas so I continued to pay because I needed my heat. But I'm satisfied with what was brought in to replace my unit. And the claims reps who I dealt with were very helpful and understanding. The technicians have also been excellent. I had no problem with them. They were eager to explain stuff that I wasn't aware of and gave me a lot of good pointers for me to look out for. I'm very satisfied. I have already recommended TotalProtect to folks and forwarded them the information for them to reach out to talk to someone from TotalProtect and get insured as well.

I was happy with my experience with TotalProtect Home Warranty. They did what they're supposed to do so I don't have any complaints. The gentleman came in and fixed the heat. He knew what he was doing and didn't take him long to get right to what he needed to get done. He either had the part or it was something that he could do. It was during the cold season and we had no heat so it was a big turnaround for us. It was a whole lot better because the ball got dropped a couple of times previously, but this time it was fine. We didn't have to do a lot of back and forth. The heat went out once before during the same time and they had to order a part. Being cold and waiting on a part and using space heaters are not very pleasant things.

But though we have had some mishaps, I would recommend TotalProtect to most people because I haven't had any problems that they haven't been able to fix and take care of. Almost every home needs a home warranty as it comes in really handy. With quite a bit of money, repairs can become a large pocket all at one time.

We had been using Sears for a long time on products that we bought from them and we decided to make a change. We went with TotalProtect Home Warranty and we haven't had a problem when we submitted our claims. It's been easy. The claims representatives handled themselves very professionally and all of my interactions with the technicians had been reasonably good. In fact, the last people who came out to fix our heating and air-conditioning units did an excellent job. TotalProtect is very good at listening to my issues and they do everything they can to resolve if there's a pending one. I've already recommended them to other people. TotalProtect takes it all the way.

Everything in my house was pretty new and I don't have a lot of money. In an event something breaks down, why should I go and freak out when I can have a home protection warranty that's going to help me out and so I'm not gonna have to go through huge expenses that I can't afford. My daughter-in-law and I did some research and TotalProtect was the most reliable and had the best statistics. My insurance agent recommended them as well so we chose them.

I've never had any problem at all with submitting a claim and even the last time when they have chosen somebody different, they've allowed me the privilege of having the previous person to come out the last time. That continuity of care really made a big difference for me. The claims rep has always been very courteous, prompt, always kind, and never made me feel like I had to wait or that I wasn't gonna get anywhere. I've had techs from different companies and they seem knowledgeable. I've never had anybody who made me wonder whether the person knows what they're doing or if they're legal.

TotalProtect is a company of quality, care, and gets the job done for a reasonable price. I appreciate all they do. The other thing that I really like about them is that I can make a monthly payment or I can pay it all at once. I like the fact that it's automatic and I don't have to be concerned that I'll let it lapse or anything like that. It was something that TotalProtect did in their billing department to help me because I'm on a limited income. It was really great.

I'm 100% satisfied with TotalProtect Home Warranty. I have electronics at home and I don't know when they can go bad or where to have them fixed. I'm retired right now and having an insurance for my appliances is the most logical thing to do. In case I have an issue, I can call it in and have someone come work on it without me having to bring out a huge amount of cash that I may not have at that time. So I looked up online and the reviews from other people on different forums for TotalProtect were so good. They're affordable and have good ratings so I went for them.

I had to use the service twice already and submitting a claim is very easy as I make a phone call then describe what the issue is. My interactions with the claims rep are very simple and as direct as possible. Usually, a technician is available either the same day or the next day. I get a claim number, told what the deductible is, and how much it's going to be. I make sure I have the cash ready because the techs don't always have change or I give them a check. They're very friendly, professional, fast, and clean. I can tell they know what they're doing. Every time I had an issue, the tech comes, leaves, and never had to come back. Total Protect is very helpful.

The quality of the vendors that TotalProtect sends is excellent. The vendors are friendly, well-trained, polite, decently dressed people with good attitude and they seem to know what they're doing. I had another home warranty plan, Colonial Home Warranty plan and they were a scam. They said they couldn't fix my stove and they tried on and on and when I switched over to TotalProtect, they sent somebody out and he fixed it. And the same stove broke down again recently and the guy came out and there were just some screws tightening.

Over a few years, I've had a refrigerator repair, whole house air-conditioning repairs, garbage disposal, and gas stove repairs and my experiences have all been positive. They have excellent service and courteous contact persons. Everybody's very friendly and cooperative, as well. A couple of times I called after hours and they took it and then the vendors would call me the next morning to set up the appointment. Other times it was the same day.

If there's a part that they have to order, they let me know about it and when they'll be back. Then another company calls me and lets me know when the part's back and when the technician would come. They also let me know the prices, half now and the other half when they come back out or when they finish with doing the work.

So far their work has been beautiful. They do their job, I pay them and they give me a receipt, and that's what I like about HMS. They came for my furnace last year around the time it got cold, and the guy fixed it. I also had a little stoppage in the pipe and they fixed it too. They've been pretty quick with what they do. The only thing I don't like is the $100 deductible, which I wish was a little cheaper but it is what it is. They fix the stuff, so I can't ask for anything else more than that.

I have an older home, so to me, it's a peace of mind. I'd rather pay $400, $500 a year than worry about bigger bills and I think there's value to it. I've submitted claims online and in person and I've had several submissions throughout the years. I've had my air-conditioning unit, water heater unit and heating system replaced and a few other minor repairs. My last submission, I couldn't believe how fast HMS reacted and how nice they were. I talked to them right away, and they took care of the problem that day, so it was very quick and efficient. I can only recall one vendor complaining about how they aren't really paid well by the HMS, but other than that, it's been a positive experience for me. I was very impressed.

It's easy to submit a claim, although it's a slow process and can't be helped because they have to get the contractor, give me the number, and then I have to call the contractor to set up an appointment so sometimes it takes a couple of days. Whereas if I call the repairman today by myself, he would probably be here today. But it's worthy to me because of the protection.

The people TotalProtect sent over here were okay. I really like the heat and air guy. He was nice, very through and explained to my husband what was going on. The first technician, however, was rude because he was complaining that he didn't know if it was going to be worth his time to come since we live way out in the country and he lives in another town, but he did come and the problem was fixed. She also told me not to worry about it and that they would find a person in my area, and let them know after she gave me the information. She gave me the name of the company to call and I called them. They called back within a few hours and a technician was out the next day.

The technician was very nice and I warned him that it was an old furnace but he said it was not a problem. He went down, looked at all over and was in and out in less than two hours. It was excellent work. He told me everything that he did, the condition of my furnace and informed me that I needed to have maintenance every year which I have never done. Now I'm hooked with him to do my maintenance on my air conditioner and my furnace every year. He'll be the guy I'll call because he was recommended by TotalProtect. TotalProtect really reassured me that I'm in good hands with what I've got now and that if something happens, they will be there for me. That's very important. When you're on your own taking care of a home, it's not easy. But knowing that I have TotalProtect, I'm very confident and safe if something happens. I would definitely recommend them.

Previously we had required service to a refrigerator that could not be repaired. We had great difficulty getting help with the matter until I posted a negative review on this site explaining the situation. After the review we were contacted by Johnathon a representative of media relations department. Our refrigerator matter was finally resolved and we were extremely happy with the outcome. When our oil burner furnace needed repairs Jonathan was incredibly helpful in managing the situation. His immediate help got us a quick repair and we have had no further issues and kept warm during the extreme weather events we have had in our area since January. We were so greatful for all of his help. Were it not for the Consumer Affairs website enabling consumers to be able to write reviews we might never have reached a positive outcome.

    Original Review: Jan. 15, 2017

We were contacted by our home loan lender Ocwen and decided at their suggestion to purchase via monthly payments the home warranty program called HMS National. Also called Total Protect Home warranty. On November 4, 2016 when my husband and I were gone on a trip our children called to report the refrigerator had stopped working. After us telling them to do the usual things and no change the kids moved everything from the fridge to garage freezer we had and our travel trailer refrigerator as well as an ice chest. I immediately reported to the home warranty folks. They initially responded quickly with contact to Sears Home repair service and a technician arrived November 9, 2016. That technician ordered a timer and stated refrig was not cooling due to pitted connections and failed T-stat. T-stat not cooling or over cooling.

She researched and indicated the part was most likely no longer available due to the age of our refrigerator. After waiting, with us calling periodically to the 24 hour hotline for home warranty, were told the warranty company had reviewed the notes from Sears tech stating they were unable to locate part needed for repair on November 26, 2016 and they would give us a resolution in 24-48 hours. With no response back from them we called again and were told they were waiting for more complete notes from Sears. She stated SEARS was not specific as to part unable to locate. I told person I had the receipt from SEARS technician and would scan and email the home warranty authorization department. Which I did, and was told the authorization dept would review. She said their people were better at locating hard to find parts than SEARS and would get back to me which she never did.

Once I called my supposed case manager Lynette back she stated the replacement part was being shipped. Once it arrived I was to call them back to have them schedule the repair. The parts arrived, a thermostat and the wiring harness which were installed by the technician. Within 24 hours the refrigerator quit working again which I immediately called the warranty people to report. They once again called Sears and on January 4, 2017 two months after original claim filed the technician reported to us that the warranty people had sent the wrong part and the part needed WR09X-0450 was no longer available as they had reported to us on November 9. The SEARS technician called the home warranty people at HMS National to ask what he was supposed to do. He put me on the line with the individual and we were told once again 24-36 hours to hear back. We were contacted after two days and offered a replacement refrigerator.

We accepted the offer as after going through the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays with only the use of a garage freezer and travel trailer refrigerator all that time and temperatures below 20 degrees and snow, and my husband and I 70 years old, just physically could not do it anymore. They agreed on a comparable unit, and asked what color we wanted. We stated black as all other appliances in kitchen were black. The unit had to be shipped. Shipping company delivered on January 10. My husband and I were not home. Our son accepted delivery and the refrigerator was installed. When we arrived home the unit was white! I immediately called to report and the representative from HMS National looked in notes and said yes I see you requested black. Shippers will have to return and pick up white model and we will order a black one. After not hearing back we called again the next week.

That representative was extremely rude and stated since the white model had been installed they could not take it back. I asked to speak to her supervisor or someone higher up in the company. The representative stated she would put in a request. It has been 5 days and we have yet to hear from the supervisor. I think waiting for over two months to get resolution for a daily use home appliance was ridiculous and all because the company was trying to not have to replace the refrigerator, searching for parts they were told were no longer available by SEARS November 9, ordering wrong part, delivering wrong color etc. I see from reading other reviews we were not alone in receiving poor customer service.

And you won't believe the things that started happening once we bought this house and kept that warranty on here. We've had troubles with our stove, dishwasher, central air-conditioning unit, furnace and garage door, that's a lot to happen in one short time. We knew that there was a $100 deductible and we thought, "Well, that's pretty high for each of them." But when you have many things go wrong as we did, then all of a sudden it's like, "Whoa, we really came out ahead on this deal." They're losing money on us, trust me.

Everyone has been good, even the ones I didn't like did a good job. I have no complaints about anybody they pick except for the technician who did the central air. He didn't let me know what was going on and had a little bit of a sour attitude. I was a little displeased with it. But other than that, everyone has been courteous and professional. Also, since we've tried them and we know what they're like, we've learned to trust them. And we think they're one of the better, if not the best, home warranty people out there. This company has also been very thorough, very honest and they follow through on everything they said. We are really glad that we kept it.

I used to have another home warranty that wasn't worth a damn and I mentioned it to a friend of mine who had TotalProtect. I then contacted TotalProtect and switched over and I've been very happy since then. If I call right now, I would have a claim in 3-5 minutes and I'd know who's the contractor and have his phone number. The contractors immediately get the claim as soon as I get their number. If it's a workday, I can talk to them within just a couple of minutes. I'd normally call them before they call me. Then they'll come out and either fix the problem or get a new one if it can't be fixed. I got a brand new $1000 refrigerator a few months ago because the old one wasn't made anymore and its part was not available. So they're the best.

The techs who come out are very knowledgeable and smart. TotalProtect uses Sears for appliances and Sears has better appliance technicians and service people than anybody. But they also send out people who aren't from Sears. But with the refrigerator, they sent a Sears guy out. I don't know how they go about selecting their contractors, but I have been happy with every contractor and they seem to know their business. They're polite and get the job done quick so I couldn’t ask for more. Overall, TotalProtect does what they say and do it in a polite, speedy manner and they don’t waste my time.

I have to have a plumber and an electrician, and it's going to cost me more than what I'm paying them in premium. With TotalProtect all I have to pay is the $75 service fee and they handle the rest. I had technicians come out twice, and I got good results.

When my dryer of over 15 years that was older than dirt went out, it could not be fixed and had to be replaced which cost more than I paid in annual premium. My premium is $480 a year, but the brand new GE dryer in my laundry room right now is worth over $500. It's still working too. The service tech that came out to look at my old dryer came from Sears service department. He actually got the dryer working again that you could smell the electrical smell, like wires are burning, which was now a safety issue. He was in the laundry room, talking to his people and while he was on the phone TotalProtect called and talked to me at the same time. They were very hands-on on that first experience. When my oven element went out, they sent a technician from Fixx My Appliance out of Conyers, Georgia. They fixed it for me before Thanksgiving and it is working again.

Before the end of next week, I will be renewing my policy with TotalProtect. I have to renew before the 26th. It was paid through my mortgage, but I refinanced my mortgage so that is no longer taking place. I've been satisfied with TotalProtect's services so far. It covers all my major appliances, my electrical, and my plumbing. I have recommended them to my daughter for her home.

We purchased our home in mid-November and moved in early December. Two of the toilets were leaking so I called the warranty company that we had via the closing on the home. They sent someone from a local plumbing company who replaced the insides of the toilet tank and told me they were not sure that the other toilet was covered. Apparently one of the screws holding the toilet down had deteriorated and was no longer holding the toilet to the floor and it was leaking. The technician instead wrote that it was put in wrong rather than stating it had rotted, so of course it was NOT covered. I told him that I had company coming in a few days and he said he would call the next day to let me know if it was going to be covered, but I never got called. Instead I called them and found out that it was not covered due to it "being installed wrong".

I spent $100 for the repair they fixed but it still leaked. They never changed the rubber cover that kept water from dripping into the toilet so I had to drive to Home Depot to get the part and fix it myself, and also had to get someone to repair the toilet they would not cover. I had asked if they could cancel the warranty as I had read that I had 30 days to cancel and was very unhappy with service and they said they would check and call me back and again, they never called so now I am stuck with a worthless contract. I think the only reason these companies stay in business is because of these warranties and they do things as cheaply as possible to reap the most money without regard to the customer. I would never recommend this company to anyone, they are horrible.

American Services Vendor said too much snow, would come Sunday. Sunday, 1/8 - Vendor was resisting Sunday with 6 inches of snow. I got neighbors to shovel entire road; Vendor showed up: "Old burner, doesn’t know how to work on it. Vendor abandoned call, left no paperwork, and told us verbally that our only option Call Warranty company".

PHONE CONVERSATION with HMS: Jessica: Said the ticket was not flagged as an emergency, which was quite a surprise. Also said there was nothing she could do without waiting another 24 hours. She then escalated to Shea when we stated that was really not acceptable. Shea: Spent over 2 hours trying to get ticket reassigned. She would UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES forgo the 24 hour ‘vendor courtesy’ period to save our home from freezing water and oil pipes, and to maintain habitability.

She wouldn’t even give us an alternate phone number, and stated, no kidding, that she would be happy with the service she provided. She then proceeded to read the exclusions in the contract instead of simply getting us some help. She also said that we’d hear something in the morning, and a manager would call in 24-48 hours. In decades of customer service myself, I’ve never seen anything like it. Monday, 1/9 - Pipes froze as expected. Still no call from HMS or another contractor. Called Woodfin Oil, they fixed in an hour or so. Said we had the most common burner on the market, less than 2 years old, easy to work on. Cost was: $372.71 for the controller, $99 for diagnostic (deductible), $309.51 for additional damage and work cause by icing.

Tuesday, 1/10 - Replacement vendor finally calls to confirm appointment that afternoon. We canceled. Still no call from manager, as promised by Shea. PHONE CONVERSATION WITH HMS. Talked to, I believe, Belinda. She attempts to escalate to a supervisor. None available for an hour, she promises a call back. Wednesday, 1/11 - No call back from either Shea or Belinda’s promised managers/supervisors. I had time to type all this right now while sitting on their hold. (Which has NEVER not been under "extraordinary wait times") Amazing.

My home was gonna be 30 years old so that's why I got a home warranty and TotalProtect was offered through CitiMortgage, my mortgage company at that time. They built directly through my mortgage so I just added 37 bucks to the mortgage. It was really simple and I didn't have to write another check though now I pay it via automatic withdraw. Submitting a claim is really easy. It's understanding what my part of the billing is when things start being repaired is what the questions always are.

I just got my HVAC downstairs, my air conditioner side replaced. We went ahead and bought the heater side and didn’t wanna have a 30-year-old unit on top of a brand new unit in the house. And we had the compressor outside replaced. TotalProtect said I had to have 50 feet of copper line. I told the tech that they told me it's 10 feet from outside to where the thing’s in the garage, asked why I needed 50 feet and said that that's 695 bucks. The guy told me my line is perfectly good, that they pressure tested it and that he's not gonna replace it, so I won't pay him for that.

It was like I'm having a deal with the repairman. I knew exactly what that repairman's doing and thought was it necessary because TotalProtect said these things are necessary so I asked him if all that was and he said that it was not necessary. So I said that if I had not pointed that out, he would've collected that money. He said he wouldn't but some would and that he won't charge me for what he won't do. It's not a bad thing but was something I didn't expect on the HVAC system.

I've also complained when we got a new washer. TotalProtect sent me to a website that they recommended for me to look and see on there which one I wanted and decided I wanted a Whirlpool. I got on that website, my wife and I looked at one of those big capacity Whirlpools in place. We selected one and it was 614 bucks on the website. Someone then from TotalProtect called and asked if we selected one. I said I did and told her the model number. She then said that it is $944. I then asked how come they sent me to a site that said 614 bucks and then they're gonna charge me a thousand dollars. Also, they're only gonna give me 500 for the replacement of mine and I'm gonna pay the difference. She told me it's because that's the way they do things and I told her to give me the check they're gonna give me and I'll handle it from there.

She said that that's not normally how they do it. And I said that that’s why they're doing it this time and if they got a problem with it to escalate it right to their VP right then. She then said that they'll do it that way. I said that I was not trying to be hard-nosed but they offered me something I was not taking. They also said it was $150 to install. I told them it was here in Tulsa and they're not even 20 miles from me and they're not even five miles from my house from where they said it was at the appliance store. I said no and that I'll get it for gas money.

So my youngest son and I got to spend some time going up North Tulsa. I bought the thing directly from Whirlpool for 614 bucks. And the warehouse guy loaded the washer on with a forklift on the trailer and we strapped it down and pulled it off. It made me happy and didn’t cost me anything. The warehouse even offered me warranty on the thing but I didn’t need it because I got TotalProtect. That was really screwy and strange with the washer.

A couple of the technicians they sent looked shady and dirty but did good work. But some of the repairmen are one-stop shop, though. TotalProtect may need to grow their business and I'm not saying the technicians are bad but I ask myself if these guys are certified or checked out. Because this last guy that installed my HVAC system didn’t do it right. I couldn’t get the cover back on the box that held my filters because he installed it whomperjawed. So when I took the cover off, it sprang. And it's supposed to be a square but now, it's leaning to the left. Then when I had my feet in the utility closet where the unit is, I felt strong air coming out from around the back of the machine. It was really cold and I thought that's my cold air and asked myself why it was going in the garage. I had to call the technician back out. I had to threaten him with a lawsuit and had to call TotalProtect to get to him because he wouldn't answer my phone calls.

TotalProtect is way competitively priced because we were with American Home Shield before which was double the price for what we have with TotalProtect. AHS was 65 bucks a month and we're paying TotalProtect $37.95 now. I'm happy with TotalProtect but one has got to be a wise consumer and it's up to the company to put a valuable transaction in front of me that I value and am willing to pay money.

TotalProtect needs to clarify the offer in their back office after the claim and they're getting ready to dispense money like with our water heater. We got it replaced in 2015 and had to pay for all the new permits but nobody told me that. They just said I owe 400, 300 bucks. So I asked what it was for then finally I got to the right person who said that it's for permits as they had to re-permit the thing. It's okay that they put that on me but to get to the point of knowledge is like pulling teeth. Other than that, I like the service. We've used it a number of times and it's worked out. It's worth having.

We used our home warranty when we started having issues with our furnace mid December. The technician came out and assessed the situation after needing 2 visits to confirm the issue. We needed a replacement of the indoor portion of our furnace but with it being 2 days before Christmas we were aware there would be a wait, which was fine, I understand it's the holidays. We hear nothing until December 30 when my husband calls to see what's going, I mean we had been running our emergency heat at the technician's suggestion for quite a while, it was time for someone to say something.

At this point my husband learns that we will be charged an additional $465 beyond our deductible for uncovered charges, he asks a ton of questions related to any ongoing costs should this not fix the issue but ultimately gives permission to proceed. He is told the parts are ordered and the technician just needs to pick them up. GREAT! Each not so much, roll into January 3rd when the furnace keeps shorting the fuses so we can't run our heat.

January 5th we reach out to HMS and the service company but both are at a loss for who does what, now mind you it's 20 degrees as a daytime temp in Ohio, the nights are in the single digits. So we of course get the runaround about whose fault it was which they ultimately try to blame on my husband. Nope! Not having it. After going round and round I am told that a supervisor will have to pull the call and confirm our account of the story. Here I sit January 6, 24 hours later and not a phone call to speak of in a home that is FREEZING and it's obvious they could care less.

Our hot water heater went out on 12/31/2016, as well as having a leak from the main water line. Was not able to reach anyone on 1/1/2017, despite their claim of 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Finally reached someone on Monday, 1/2/2017. Original vendor assigned to us couldn't come out until Friday. This was not acceptable, we have an infant and already had leaking water and no hater water for 2 days.

Assigned a new vendor who was able to come out on Tuesday. Vendor came out, was unable to fix the hot water heater that day due the part required, suggested a new hot water heater might be best. Vendor was unable to fix the leak, as the claim had been written as the hot water heater had a leak, not the main line as told to the HMS employee. Have to wait for approval for either a new hot water heater or the repairs required to fix the old one. Can't submit a new claim for the water leak until it is removed from the original claim. HMS decides to repair the water heater. They do not cover the cost to access the heater, so we are responsible for another $150, on top of the $100 deductible.

Now it's Friday, our water heater is now leaking, and we still have a water leak. No sense of urgency, we have already missed three days of work waiting on these issues to be fixed, and to top it off the wait time to speak with someone is always a minimum 30 minutes. Then, when I asked to speak to a supervisor, I was told there wasn't one available. This is an absolute joke and as soon as the leak and hot water heater are fixed our plan with them will be canceled. This is also after they wouldn't send someone out on a weekend to fix our furnace in February because it wasn't an emergency. Save the monthly premium and pay for quality service without the minute man.

Wait 4 to 5 days for service and the same problem is still happening. By the way I live in Ohio. It’s December and January and have little or no heat. Wish I had been able to choose my warranty co, but obviously I didn't. Funny when I complained. They called me everyday when I went outside their options and thought it was fixed. I have TotalProtect for so many years. I usually submit my claim over the phone and it normally works very well. However, the last time was kind of a big comedy. The rep gave me a phone number to call and it was to a plumbing place. I told her it's a stove oven issue and she said that's who I should call so I did thinking they've gotten into some other line of business in addition to plumbing and heating. But they haven't so I had to call back and get a different number. It ended up being Sears I should have been calling. But overall, I've had excellent customer service from the TotalProtect people, that's why I keep them. They're efficient and professional.

And the people that they do business with that actually come out and make the repairs have been phenomenally wonderful and very personable. I've had people work on the washer, dryer and furnace and they were awesome and very good. Most of the time it's been Sears except for the furnace, but the ones who came were very careful about taking off their shoes, picking up their equipment and cleaning up after themselves. But for this last time, the guy that did the oven left a frigging mess.

I have worked with Total Protect for over 2 years now. When I first signed up they told be everything was covered. Once I had a claim they told me only one AC was covered, not both. I came to find out that is the same for every major appliance. No one ever said you needed to customize. Not entirely their fault. I should have read the plan closer.

The real problem comes with all the disclaimers about what is actually covered on each repair. I found out even though things are covered, they may not be completely covered. So here is where things get really bad. I called to update my plan and once I finally got someone on the phone, they changed the plan and continued to charge me for the new and old plan. I stayed on hold for hours and days trying to get this corrected. All was good until I sold a home and tried to cancel the policy. Again, on hold for over 1 hour to cancel. Said it was done and even got a confirm number. Today I saw a charge on my credit card again for the cancelled policy. Again, sat on hold for over 1 hour to be told nothing was done and that I needed to be transfered. I had to sit on hold all over again. Every time I asked for a manager, they ALWAYS refused. It seems they play the same game and just refuse to stop charging you. At this point I am now hoping they cancelled both policies. To be safe I am telling my credit card to refuse all charges from them.

They gave me the name of an outfit who could not even come out to look at it for four days. When the technician told them it needed to be replaced, "Total Protect Gold" told me I had to wait until they ordered it which would then be shipped to this small contractor, and the contractor said it sometimes takes this warranty company a long time to order and ship replacement parts or appliances. In addition to my $100 deductible "Total Protect" told me I had to pay for additional cost to install it, (over $230) and they would not give me an estimate as to when I could expect to have fixed, as they didn't consider being without hot water an emergency. I explained I was a senior citizen and ill and all they kept saying was it was not an emergency. I am still without hot water, no estimated date of repair, no answers at all. This company took many years of premium, no concern about health, horrible customer service. They seem to want to avoid paying legitimate claim. Completely misleading advertising. I would advise other senior citizens to think twice before paying this company high premiums for horrible customer and bad claims service. They do not care about seniors, and when you do have a claim they do not respond promptly. It appears to take advantage of people, collect the premiums and then work with low service contractors.

The first time we used HMS, we didn't like the company that they picked but we were stuck with it. The air conditioner went out and they sent a technician out here. They fixed the AC but it went out again so we had to call them back. We asked HMS if they could give us somebody else and they told us we would have to pay for a second service call. During that time, we should've been put in an emergency status because it was 95 degrees in the house all the time and we had to buy a window unit. I went up the ranks with them and asked if somebody would pay me back the window unit. The manager called me back the next day and said they couldn't pay for it.

There was a paperwork issue, too. The company said they didn't have anything from HMS and HMS said they'd already sent the paperwork, so it pushed the claim back a few days. On both times, the contractor said they couldn't get out and see us until Monday but I told them I'm a lawyer and that got them. HMS should've found us somebody else when those technicians weren't available to come out immediately.

Also, my debit card got compromised but I can't go in and change my payment online. When I called to update the payment info, I back paid because they said I missed the payment throughout. Two days later, my husband called to schedule a plumber to come out when our shower broke and they said we weren't active anymore. Luckily, I wrote the confirmation number and told them we have it.

Once we got through it and got a new air conditioner, we renewed our policy with them. We stuck with HMS because I wasn’t sure if we were allowed to go somewhere to buy a new policy. Then I started doing some research and HMS was the better deal out of all the ones that I could find. A local company doesn’t cover as much as HMS did but they have a less expensive service call rate or copay and they will come out and do two service calls or maintenance calls a year as part of their plan but when they do, it's usually something not covered.

The contractors have been very responsive as well. With the latest claim, we had a clogged-up sink that I thought I could clean out and couldn’t. So the tech came and tried to clean it out with a snake and he couldn’t get it, so he had to go under the house and cut pipes apart. He was here for hours and got the clog cleared. When we bought our home in Bowie, HMS Home Warranty was one of the options to go with. We enjoyed their service so we stuck with them. Submitting a claim with them is easy. I prefer talking to people because I have questions about things before and I'm a planner, so I need everything straight in my line. The claims reps have always been very courteous and knowledgeable of what we needed and what we're able to get. The most recent claim we did was online but painless. The technician who came out was very nice, knowledgeable and quick. He told us that if we had any issues, we can call and they'll come back to make sure it's fixed right. We like HMS so much that when we bought our second house and the one year with the other company was out, we quickly switched. So far, we haven't had any complaints and we're very happy.

The people who TotalProtect had originally called to give me a call never did so it was disappointing on that part. But the second people that I had called were great. They were right on the issue and that was good. Their guy was real professional and really nice. The quality of his work was great. And then, about a week later, the other people called but I told them I'm done with them. Nonetheless, it's been a great experience with TotalProtect. I would definitely recommend them.

HMS Home Warranty came with our home when we purchased it and I've just been extending it. I submit claims online and it seems to work pretty good. Their technicians have all been friendly and helpful, and got the job done quickly and the work has been excellent.

My bank sent me something in the mail saying that TotalProtect offered a home warranty. My house is 16 years old and most of the stuff are original so I thought it would probably be a good idea to acquire a home warranty. Submitting a claim to TotalProtect was very easy and they provide very good customer service. The lady that we spoke to was very pleasant. My wife mainly dealt with the technician who came to service our appliances and she said he was very nice and professional. I've already referred TotalProtect to family members. I'm very happy. We had no problems whatsoever.

HMS Home Warranty is very professional. When something breaks, I call on them, they come out and fix it, I pay the deductible, and the claim is taken care of in a timely manner. I cannot really ask for more than that. Whether the claim is provided through a phone call or online, I receive responses in a timely manner which sets the process in motion and the repairs are completed. I’ll recommend HMS Home Warranty to anybody.

Our real estate agent's customers have been using HMS Home Warranty and they don't have any negative feedback about the company. I had my furnace and air-conditioning replaced in the same week thru them and submitting a claim has been really easy so far. I called and did the automated system then somebody gave me a call back to let me know that the claim has been approved. Right then and there when I called, they gave me the name of the provider that's gonna come out and service my problem. For the two incidents, the contractors have been knowledgeable and reputable. Everything's been really good and so far, everybody has been really helpful.

I have second home that I didnt use it too much. The appliances are a little older and if their warranties cannot cover them, I figured I should use a home warranty. I got TotalProtect. I was not very happy the last time I made a claim because when I called for my air conditioner, it's all automated. I couldnt talk to anybody and explain what I needed. I had to play with a menu for 20 minutes until I could finally talk to somebody in the company. I live in an area where there are not too many companies that service and when I filed a claim, my automated attendant took all the information and sent it to a company that was 50 miles from here. Those guys are not going to come here just to check my air conditioner and I needed to talk and explain that to somebody from them but I couldn't. They should find somebody in my area.

So they found a technician and he said I needed a new thermostat. He made a thorough job in fixing it. The second time, the air conditioner stopped working because there was a drain pipe that was clogged, so they fixed that one too. I've called several times for my dryer and dishwasher and they were fixed perfectly. The people from that company are pretty good. They call me in the afternoon and normally when they go home at night after they service. They stop at my house and take care of whatever I need. On the other hand, something happened to my refrigerator and they came here and told me that that part was no longer available. They spoke to somebody at TotalProtect and they said that they were going to call me to help me buy another refrigerator. Nobody called me to discuss if they were going to help me find a refrigerator but the refrigerator fixed by itself and is now working perfectly.

I submitted a claim back in the summer time and that worked out pretty well. But last month, I submitted a claim for a wall oven. I placed my call November 21st and on the 16th of December, my oven is neither fixed nor replaced. They have sent three companies that looked at it and said that they can't repair it and could not replace it without HMS making a decision. Instead of replacing, HMS keeps on referring a new company. They have been giving me a little bit of a runaround. They are now sending a fourth company and I'm going to see what happens. If it happens again, I will ask for my initial fee that I paid for the first year. Then I'm going to report them to RE/MAX 100 who referred me to them because they're putting their name on the line saying, "This is a good company to use." I'm hoping they will give me my money back so I'd move to another company or worse case is I buy a brand new oven. I can't keep going through what I'm going through.

One of the AC units in the house was not cooling enough. the technician came and said the Freon was low and had to recharge it. After this the AC unit was behaving erratically for a few weeks, sometimes cooling and sometimes not. The ambient temperature was also fluctuating during this time. I complained again about the AC unit not cooling enough.
Then the ambient temperature dropped very low and then we switched over to heating. Now the heating was not enough. We filed a claim for both heating and cooling to be checked.
The technician came and said that the heating was okay. He checked the cooling unit too and said there was a leakage. He said he could not fix the problem since he needed approval from the Home Warranty company. The CCHS has been dodging me since then and do not want to fix this problem at all!!

I have paid $200 for the 2 visits and paying regular monthly charges for the home warranty since I was a member for more than a year but without any resolution to the problem. I suspect the service company and the home warranty provider work in hand in glove to do their best not to cover any services. They just need our money!!

I’ve been with TotalProtect for eight years now and my experience has been wonderful. When I call and make a claim, they try to get the company that I prefer. And they work so expeditiously. It's fast and I have not had any problems with TotalProtect. All of the technicians that they sent were very courteous.

When I submitted a claim with HMS Home Warranty, it went easy and smooth. They took care of everything in good time but the technician that they first gave me didn’t show up. I called them but they never picked up the phone. So, I called HMS back and they gave me the second technician who came right away. He was a very good person. I will recommend HMS Home Warranty to anybody.
