When we purchased our house, the previous owners had the HMS Home Warranty so we decided to keep it on. In general, we have had good service from most of the technicians who have come to service our appliances, with the exception of one technician. When this technician came, he messed up the claim. There was a problem with the oven. It did not indicate if the oven was on or off. So it was dangerous if you have kids and you don't know if the oven is on or off. We had a technician come and the technician, instead of writing that there was a problem with the on/off indicator and that this had to be changed, said instead that the oven clock was not working. That was what he submitted and, of course, the claim was denied.
When we called, I said, "I don't understand why the claim has been denied when the oven is not working...I don't know if it's on or off." The guy said, "Well, I'm sorry but that's what the technician wrote." I said, "Well, could I please speak with the manager because this is dangerous and we have kids in the house." The guy was rude. He started yelling at me and I said, "Wait a second, I'm the client here." He was just horrible.
So at the end of the day, I talked to HMS. They ended up changing the representative. They used another company and eventually, the problem was fixed. However, I had to pay deductible two times. I think that was the only instance where the service was not what I expected but I understand that it was a service provider of HMS and not HMS directly.
Other than that, I have had nothing but positive things, like the other repairmen that have come have been extremely nice. We have had the warranty since 2006 so from 2006 to date, some time has gone by and, of course, things need repairs here and there, and in general, they have been positive. I think HMS has been a good investment. Other than that instance where the repair company was not up to the standards that it should have been, I think it worked really well.

We bought our house and the sellers paid a year's HMS warranty for us. Submitting a claim with them is easy for me. I haven't had any problems with any of them, except for one that just took a while last year when we had an attic fan done, but we eventually got that in because it took a while to order the parts. I like the quality of work done. It's been great.

I have a home and sometimes things go wrong. A co-worker gave TotalProtect's number to me. She said she had them for over 15 years and they were good guys. I didn’t expect the process to be so quick and easy.

I've been with TotalProtect for a while now as I believe in having insurances with everything I own. I get to save by just paying so much monthly, and not have repairs come out of my pocket. I liked TotalProtect's deductible and what the contract entails. Their claim process is very easy and the representatives are very professional. I haven't had any problems with their technicians other than one who came out that was rude. He was doing much personal business then flooded my bathroom. But overall, the quality of the work that they've done has been great. The company has great services and they provide excellent customer service.

The real estate agent recommended HMS to us. We were buying a house at the time and it included a lot of appliances and I didn't really have any idea of the actual shape of the appliances. First time I filed a claim they were very pleasant and everything worked out fine. The technicians they sent were also really nice and we didn't have any problems at all. They carried out repairs quickly and were clean. It was a good experience in general.

I am now absolutely amazed and completely satisfied, and have told everybody I know of about my experience. Their rep was very friendly and knowledgeable about my problem, where the other company wasn't. The technician offered several suggestions and was a lot of help. The quality of work is excellent.

HMS Home Warranty is great. Submitting a claim to them was fairly easy - you just call the number, and either you get a representative or after hours, you just type in your problem and they give you a claim number. However, the very first technician they sent in was terrible because the appliance broke. It had the same problem three days later but the second company that they sent out was excellent. I haven't had problems ever since. The quality of work is great.

We've had HMS for 10 years now and when we’ve had a problem, the ones that have come regularly were great. But recently, we’ve had some difficulty in getting people here. They said they couldn't make it because they were too busy, so we called back to HMS and they’ve assigned us someone else.

I have a big house and thought it was worth it signing up with TotalProtect since they have good reviews and when we refinanced with Wells Fargo, they sent us ads and information on TotalProtect. I also found the $49.95/month to be good, and the coverage is good too. I’ve done three claims with them and it’s quite easy: I just put in the claim via internet and then immediately I’m contacted with a claim number and then the process has started.
We submitted a claim on our AC which went out and they offered to replace it with a 4 ton. Since my furnace was a 5 ton I was curious if I could somehow upgrade to a 5 ton and pay the difference. The person we were in contact with at TotalProtect said that's no problem. She said, “We can replace it for the 4 ton, or we will pay you this amount and then we’ll just send you a check and then you can do whatever you want with it.” So we went that route and they immediately sent a check--no problem.
And then when the microwave went out, we called to submit a claim and they said, “Well, he’ll come out and look at it and then you just pay him the 75 bucks,” and so he came out. He said we needed a control board and they’d have to order it. I pay them 75 bucks. Then TotalProtect sent me an email saying "this is the one we want to replace it with." We looked it up and it’s actually a little bit better than what we had. I just contacted them and said, “Yeah, go ahead and replace it.” It was ordered and I got this phone call saying the guy was coming between 1 and 3, and the guy showed up at 12:45. In fact I wasn’t even at the house yet so he met me at the house. They had it all put in and they took the old one away.
I’m really impressed with them. They've just been perfect, stellar and I have recommended them. I’ve had three claims and they’ve always been punctual, no problems at all, no questions asked and the problem has been solved immediately. You can’t beat that.

Everybody at HMS Home Warranty has been very friendly and helpful. They handled things quickly and promptly and I've been satisfied so far. There's been two issues since we moved into the condo and both were handled promptly. On the first one, I wasn't aware that you had to call first to get a service contractor because I haven't received my welcome packet. When I called after I got the dryer fixed, I found out we were supposed to call first but they still handled it and reimbursed me for the out-of-pocket expense part of it. I was very pleased with that. The second issue was the smoke alarms and that was handled right away. In fact, they contacted the service person and the service provider called me right away and set up an appointment then we're done. HMS has been great so far.

We've been with TotalProtect for quite a while. The techs are excellent. They just left about two hours ago and took care of a problem. It was supposedly taken care last week and it didn't do it. It just takes a quick phone call to submit a claim to HMS. I've used it three times and only one time did it fail. They gave me an electrician and they called the electrician and couldn't get a hold of them. I called the electrician and I couldn't get a hold of him. Eventually, I gave up and took care of it myself. When I called for the third time, I let them know that and they made a note in their files that nobody could get in touch with this guy. Maybe he's no longer in business or he's no longer interested, but he's just not calling back. But they are very knowledgeable people. Both times that they had people come out, it was for things that I just didn't know about because it's a new house and I don't know where the stuff is. The technician took care of it very quickly. There was a deductible but it was worth it.

I looked into this TotalProtect when I moved into my new house 15 years ago. I was a first time homeowner and I know as well as everybody else knows that things break. This way I'm not gonna get hit with the shock of having to spend X number of dollars. I was primarily thinking of things like air conditioning unit when I was looking at buying it, because my neighbors had theirs go out and they were boohoo-ing about how much money it was gonna cost. I said there's gotta be a way to offset that where it wasn't gonna be as painful.
After I did my research, it all came down to acquiring TotalProtect. My initial experience with them was fine and submitting claims was easy and fantastic. But my experience with the contractor wasn't good. From that point on is when it fell off the cliff. The company that was sent out, I'm not very fond of. I called and got the case number. Then they called me back and told me who's coming. This was before Christmas. I called the guys up, they weren't gonna open. It was a Friday and they said "Sorry, we're closed, we will be back on Monday." I called them up Monday morning, told me, "We're not gonna have an appointment available for another week because of the holiday. So we won't be able to get out there until the next Tuesday" (which was New Year's Eve).
So what can I do? I called TotalProtect and told them I had this problem one other time about parts and if they can make sure the guy has parts and everything like that and the lady said, "Alright, I'll call you back and let you know." The next day I called back and she said, "Oh yeah I'll talk to them don't worry about them." So then that next Tuesday rolled around. They showed up on New Year's Eve just between the times that were quoted to me. The guy comes in, takes the parts money of my appliance, "We'll figure it out soon, yup you were right, this is what it is and we don't have the parts. So what I'm gonna have to do is I'm gonna have to go back, fill out my report. If we have the parts within the city then we'll be out within the next couple days. If we do not have the part within the city then we have to order it and it's going to be another 10 days to two weeks before we come out to replace the parts."
So I thought, "When will I know if you have it?" "Well, we'll tell you. Tomorrow's a holiday so we'll tell you the day after. We'll call you in the morning." So then I wait and it's the day after. I get no phone call. The next day I get no phone call. So then I called back on the Friday because I know they're closed Saturdays, Sundays, and the person's like, "Oh, yeah well I haven't gotten the report and I'll take a look at that and we'll get around ordering it but I'll give you a call right back again." So on Monday I call back, "I'm not even gonna give you a chance to call me back. What do you have?" "Oh we have to order the parts. But the parts should be in within the next few days but the soonest available appointment I have is not for another 10 days out." So I said, "Just give me what you got, I got to get this done, cause I'm having to drive back and forth to the automated laundromat and stuff like that because the dryer's gone."
She said, "Alright I'll call you with the appointment time" and we all know how that goes because it didn't work - for the first few times they said they'd call me, I ended up calling them back to get the appointment. And then when he came out this time, he did have the parts and he installed it. And now it's running as normal. But I was really dismayed by the lack of communication ability and if I have the problem occur again with my dryer and I call, I will say "please do not refer me to these people. I'll take somebody else."
That's kind of a bummer because before, when I had my air conditioner problems, the company was great, they came right out. One other time, I had my dryer go out, the guy came out, had the parts in his truck. 35 minutes later he was gone from the house and everything was working fine. This was the first time I had to wait almost a month to get an appliance repaired.

These people refused to pay for my hot water heater. This company will go to all means to avoid paying you for a loss. They only will pay a licensed plumber and will not pay for new code requirements nor will they reimburse me for the cost of replacing it myself. What a RIP-OFF!!!!! The last claim previous was for a repair to my AC system and I had to fight tooth and nail to finally get them to pay the claim. NO MORE MONEY TO THEM!!
I’m sorry to hear that you feel this way about your two recent claim experiences. You’ve been with us for many years, thanks for letting us know how you feel. The reason why we require repairs and replacements to be performed by licensed and insured service technicians is for safety requirements and to ensure a quality standard of workmanship. As with any warranty there are items and/or conditions that are not eligible for coverage. However, as we discussed we will reimburse you for the cost of your water heater. I’ve provided you with instructions for reimbursement in a private message. Feel free to reach out to me should you need additional assistance. Sincerely, Stephanie

I have this insurance since a long time ago. It was initially given by the seller of my house. I kept it for a few years and suspended it, but after I refinanced, I got it back and since then I have had already continued this. It's been easy. Most of the time I use the automatic service when submitting a claim. My only comment is that sometimes TotalProtect doesn't cover some of the expenses and I was not so happy. When they replaced my water heater, I encountered some extra expenses on my own. But I think it's good program.

I haven't called HMS for a long time for anything, but all of a sudden I didn't have hot water. I called them, and they made contact apparently with a plumber that did not even call me back. It was really upsetting. And there's supposed to be a 4 hour turnaround time that they call you. And I called in to HMS and I said, I had no hot water. How do you take a shower when you have no hot water and it's January. It's crazy.
They got me a plumber. The person that I had talked to when I called in there, she made me feel like I had to have that plumber, and it was very, very upsetting. And I thought, "oh my gosh, I cant believe this. I paid so much money for this warranty and I really need it and I need it now." The person was not the most cooperative, and she told me that I had to wait on that plumber, or that call of the company, or some kind of nonsense. And they didn't call back, so I called the next day. And I said, "You know what, this is very upsetting." I called later that evening, I guess it was the same person, and she said, "Well we could put it in for a different plumber, but you realize it would be another whole day of waiting time." And I thought, "well that's not good. Okay, I'll wait until in the morning."
So in the morning, I didn't hear from the plumber yet again. And then I called HMS. I ended up calling them like 4 times before I finally got somebody to come out. And that, I guess, was what was disturbing. I was sitting there with no hot water. I just wanted my problem resolved. The company that ended up taking care of my hot water, they actually had to replace the hot water tank, it was leaking. The gentleman that came out and did it was so efficient. He was wonderful. The name of the company that did in fact end up fixing it was called A Water Solutions. They were awesome. I cannot say enough wonderful things about them. It was kind of frustrating getting them here, but once they got here, it was great.
And then there was another kind of weird thing that I guess, it's an HMS thing, but I thought it was rather odd. I had HMS for 13 years, and I just do an automatic renewal, so I don't even do anything. They just bill my credit card, and I keep on having this service because I think it's a great idea. When they did this hot water tank this time, there were things that HMS didn't cover that I wasn't aware of. And I'm sure that's probably in their more current brochures, but I didn't know. So, it was kind of a little bit of a shock. I paid that first $100 but then I had to pay more, like I had to pay for them to take away the hot water tank. I did not have to do that since I had my local trash collection collected; I would have spend $100 for them to take it.
And then there was another $125 charge for hooking it up. I just thought that was very odd. Somebody from HMS did call me and tell me that those things were not included. And I thought, "wow, okay." Well, I needed a hot water tank and I'm gonna do what it takes. And ultimately, what I'm paying here is $225, which in my mind is still less than not having the warranty. I was surprised. Usually you know in advance. So if my furnace breaks, they're gonna charge me to take away the old furnace?
I have recommended HMS, so this experience is really frustrating to me. I've had several friends throughout the years that have actually maintained their warranties when they bought a house, just because I always tell them, I tried to explain that to them that this is the greatest thing - your furnace breaks in the dead of winter and you don't know who to call, and you call your home warranty company and that's great. I've done that over the years. To have a warranty company for this many years is a long time. I don't know what everybody thinks, but I think it's a long time. And so throughout the years, I've recommended them many times. I tried to recommend them this year but with the experience I had over my hot water heater, the person I was recommending to, my neighbor, said no. I was happy that it's resolved but a whole week is a long time to try to figure out where am I gonna go to get a shower every day.
The funny thing was this all happened the week before my renewal date, January the 18th. And I was so close to cancelling HMS because they're giving me the grief. In the end, when it's all said and done, I had to laugh about it. Thank goodness I belong to the gym so I can go take a shower! So after all that, I am still keeping my home warranty. But I did just recently have a rotten experience, and I just have to share this. And some of those little companies that they’re trying to support, they need to rethink that.

Beginning with my call for information I was impressed by the knowledge & courtesy of the rep. Really had a ball chatting with her. Contract began on 1/2/15. Had to call in a claim on 1/12 for double wall oven. The digital display went out making it unusable. Got an appointment for 4 days later. Tech arrived & told me that I needed a new oven. He also advised me that the home warranty would probably want 2 if not 3 more opinions. 2 days later I received a call from Total Protect to advise me that my claim was approved & my replacement oven would be here in 4-5 days. 3 days later it arrived.
I've had other home warranty companies & I have had other appliances replaced. I have never experienced anything like this. Normally there is a need to have 2nd & 3rd opinions. Previous company told me it would be 21 days for them to locate a new fridge. I have 2 kids & couldn't wait that long & opted for a cash out to get a new one faster. With other companies I had to deal with rudeness & resentment when an appliance needed to be replaced.
The lovely lady who called to tell me my claim was approved congratulated me & was so happy for me.
Every employee I have dealt with on the phone has been professional, knowledgeable & more than courteous.
Love this company!!!

They were really on it and I've been really, really happy with everything. It's very painless and effortless. It seems almost a good value.
I'm usually very leery about warranties. It's nice to know that you're paying for a service, and HMS telling you that they're gonna give you a value, and they're giving you that value. It's a lot of peace of mind to rather have the warranty for some. If you get hit with a series of unfortunate accidents, they have this coverage to know what's reliable and punctual, and they don't play games with you. It's really nice to know nowadays that things like that still exist. We just resigned up for another year.

My water heater went out and HMS Home Warranty said that they only did business through Home Depot. I set up the claim and they said they’ll be giving me a call. I never heard anything. Another day went by and I had to call back and I said “Let us try Home Depot again.” By the time they got anywhere, Home Depot was closed. It was done for the weekend, and there’s nothing that could be done. Then come to find out, he said “Well, we still not hearing anything so let’s try a different company.” And this guy called me and said Home Depot doesn’t even do it in our area. I went for like five days without any hot water which was kind of frustrating. Other than that, loved that everything got straightened out. It was awesome.

One of the main reasons I looked into acquiring a home warranty was that I didn't have to worry about a major expense happening blind side me by having to replace whatever it might be. And I can incorporate it into my mortgage. So far it has been good. The only thing is that sometimes getting somebody out is a little bit of lapse time between when they come out and then a lot of times they may not have a part and have to order it, and they have to come back out. But beside that, it's not been bad. Technicians have always been polite. I've had no major issues on the quality of work, and I'm very satisfied with TotalProtect.

Submitting a claim to HMS was terrible because the person that they recommended to come see us, never came. We didn't actually talked to anybody because it was all automated, which was fine. They gave us their claim number. But when I contacted the gentleman who we were supposed to call, he was reluctant to come out to the house because he wasn't gonna get paid to come out. The next morning, we called back and talked to somebody after I talked to the first guy, and told her our heater went out but the gentleman said it wasn't an emergency. It was the week when it was 35 and 40 below wind chills. Because we have an electric fireplace for our TV stand, the technician said that would be considered an alternate source of heat. He wouldn't be paid to come out for his overtime. If he comes out, it could cost us $1000 and we'd have to fight with HMS to get our money.
We called back, talked to a lady, gave the claim number, and told her the situation. We waited while she was working on a solution and talking to the technician, Pete. She got him back on the phone and said that she had talked to him and that he would contact us within 2 hours. But he never called, never showed up - nothing. So the next morning, we called again. My girlfriend said, "I'll just request that we get a different person to work with." I don't want to deal with this company if that's the way people are gonna be. They gave us the name of a different heating and cooling place and they were wonderful after that. It's actually not their end of the deal that was bad, it was the person representing them that wasn't so pleasant to work with. Everything after that was pretty good.

They seem to want to make sure they have the right fix or service to be rendered to the customer. That same morning the lady said that they had to find somebody, and when they did, they said they weren't gonna be able to come out until about 3 days after Christmas. My kitchen was looking like a wreck, and I started to pull my hair out.
That’s when I experienced the normal procedure that I expect from TotalProtect. They kept on calling around trying to find somebody to come out to me. It was actually Christmas Eve that they came and helped me out. TotalProtect did send somebody, and they were able to fix it. They came out within an hour and a half and took care of my problem. When I purchased the house, it came with 1 year of HMS Home Warranty, and I just continued it. The service is above average. The only thing I would say is, along with other appliance warranty or home warranty companies, they choose a lot of the smaller contractors, not always. Because I'm sure tthere's some competition with pricing. Often, you'll call the contractor and there's not anybody in the office like it's a one-man operation. And so sometimes, there's a communication problem with their vendors. It's just not HMS, I also have another company on other houses. If it was for home appliances, they will call General Electric and they're out there quick. But a lot of times, for the mechanical or the heating, air conditioning, or plumbing issue, it's typically the smaller contractor that don't have the staff that some of the bigger companies have. So sometimes it's repeated calls, but the work gets done.

The last time I called I said to send me the same people they sent me the last time and the rep said, "Well, let me see if they're available." They can do that. And all the technicians they sent were good except for a plumbing company. They still use the hacksaws that have a pipe cover. The guy broke the gauge out and I have wound up paying for it. I told TotalProtect I never want this plumbing company in my house again. I had to have the whole place re-piped because of them.
Another issue I had with TotalProtect is there are certain items they have stated in their warranty that they cover but they're not really covered. They say that they covered the air conditioning, the evaporated coil, or the condenser coil. They say that their warranty is for normal wear and tear of mechanical parts. The condenser coil has no mechanical parts and it seeps in water. So when the technician came out, of course, he wrote it up that there was a Freon leak because of rust and corrosion where it wasn't covered so it cost me $900.
So when I called them, they said, "Well, we're sorry, but that's not covered." I said, "In your contract you said that's covered. However there are no mechanical parts to break down and it operates in water all day long. So how could you not cover rust and corrosion and say you're supposed to cover it? Just take it out of your contract if that's the case." But other than that, they have good claim service and I'm satisfied.

I just had a rather interesting experience but I was happy with the results in the end. There seems to be a miscommunication. I have a leaking pipe in my ceiling so I emailed that Friday and told TotalProtect basically what my problem was. I called the company that was given to me to call but they never returned the call. I called TotalProtect and said, “Hey, nobody’s contacted me and I have this ceiling leaking.” So they sent somebody out Friday from a local company and they were great. He saw what was wrong, that the pipe wore out and he told me what to do and then Monday he’d be back. That stopped the damage so I was happy with that. Monday he came back and fixed it.
The other company then called me on Monday and said “We’re on the way now.” I said, “Wait a minute. It’s been repaired.” “Oh, that’s fine.” Then I got a call after that, and then another call the day before yesterday, and again yesterday saying “We’re on the way to fix your problem.” It was more or less a mixup at best. That’s not a complaint by the way, it’s an FYI for them so they can do as good as they can. They've been good with me, like every time they sent someone to come, they have fixed everything the first time and I don’t have to call them back.

Our realtor recommended HMS to us. One time I submitted a claim at about 11:30 at night. The automated system gave me a claims number and told me to get in contact with the next morning - that was satisfactory. The technicians were very nice. They're creatively good - a little late getting here when they said they were gonna be because they were backed up in this cold spell - but they were here the day they said they would be here. The only issue was the HMS purchasing didn't fall through, so I had to wait three more days to get right through here. I'd still recommend them nevertheless.

Submitting claims to TotalProtect is fairly simple. I did most of mine over the internet but if I had issues, I would call the claims representative to see if we can get the issues worked out or fixed as soon as they could. For the most part, the technicians fulfill the obligation. I had an issue with a couple of the companies that they tried to send over to fix the plumbing problem but they finally got someone out here that did the work and that got it taken care of. TotalProtect also has prompt service and I’m very satisfied also with the ease of putting in a claim.

It is the middle of January and inside my house is below 30 degrees. They got the repair company out timely, but since then I am waiting for someone to send someone else an estimate and coverage information ( I get premiums paid via my mortgage). I thought I was suppose to pay $75.00 service call, but now they are saying I have to pay $850 in uncovered costs. I gave them a $425.00 deposit because we are desperate to get heat back on so the water lines do not freeze. Each time I call they are telling me someone will call me back within an hour. I have yet to receive a call. I have called them each time only to be told they have not received all information to process claim. I feel like this is a rip-off, but I am stuck because I already gave them $425.00. The latest is I am scheduled to get a call within 2 hours of business hours tomorrow. We will see. At this point I would not reccommend.

Our previous company cancelled our policy because they said we had too many claims in one year, which was kind of ridiculous considering that we had a couple of leaks in the house and stuff that we could not prevent. We started looking for something else and Total Protect was the one that was offered to our bank. They've all been really good. I've not had an issue with any of them. The only complaint that I have with that is that you can't talk to a person when you call the number to do a complaint. The couple of complaints that we have had has been, “Hey, my water heater is busted so I have water all over the place.” And of course, you can’t tell the recording that.
Other than that, they've been great because we are in a very rural area and we've had to get the authorization from a regular plumber because we don't have anybody close to us. They've worked really well with my plumber but that's my biggest complaint, you can't talk to a person to let them know that this is an emergency and I need you to do something about it now. I hope somebody can do something about the automatic call where you can talk to a person if you need to.

At this point, I am very upset with Total Protect and its service company, American Home Service, here in Central Texas. My A/C system failed about a month after I purchased my policy in August of last year. They sent a local company out that recommended replacement of the air handler AND condenser because of the new refrigerant requirements. Instead of doing that, they sent American home Service out for a second opinion. Rather than replace either unit, AHS attempted to repair the 30 or 40 year old air handler. A few days later, the tech had to come back and attempt to repair the same leak in the coils of the air handler. A few days later, the coil failed again. We ended up surviving the rest of the summer using borrowed window units from friends and neighbors. Electric bills were horrible!
Just after Christmas our heating unit failed. Again, the problem was with the air handler. We were told the unit was a fire hazard and needed to be replaced. Why has Total Protect authorized repairs of a unit that is classified as a "fire hazard"? Who would be responsible if our house burned down after these repairs? And, God forbid, what if we were injured or killed in such a fire?
AHS told us we would have to pay $ 750 for items that were not covered under the home warranty. Those charges include $ 200 for disposal of the old unit, another $200 for refrigerant recovery, and $ 350 for "modifications." Keep in mind that the refrigerant leaked out, causing the first several failures of the system, and again, the refrigerant has leaked out of the system. Why am I paying for this process? And, I told AHS that I would dispose of the unit. I was told I couldn't do that and finally the owner of AHS said he would not charge me for the disposal. And then Total Protect told me they would cover the cost of the refrigerant recovery and my out-of-pocket cost would be $ 350. Then, AHS called me back and said my cost would be $ 470 something because Total Protect would only cover $ 100 for the refrigerant recovery.
And, did I mention $ 350 for "modifications"? That includes something that modifies the system so that the air handler will work with the 14 year old unit that uses R-22 refrigerant. Seems that type of modification will cause very high pressure within the condenser, which will, most likely, cause it to fail this summer. AND, THAT, MY FRIENDS, WILL MEAN ADDITIONAL COSTS FOR MORE MODIFICATIONS!
We've spent the coldest days of winter using space heaters. My husband suffered a stroke the day after Christmas, and does not need the stress of dealing with these people. My husband and I are both disabled, and I suffer from pain which is affected by cold. We've spent almost 5 months trying to get this unit fixed. I've just had enough! I'm tired of waiting for days for call-backs. I'm tired of being told different stories by different customer service reps and by this repair company.
My research about replacing the condenser and the air handler confirm what the first tech told us...we need to replace both or face additional failures and costs this summer.
Dear Phyllis,
We understand your concerns. We aim to provide superior customer service and are deeply sorry that in this instance your experience didn’t reflect that.
We stand by the work of our technicians by providing a 6 month workmanship guarantee. We apologize for any inconvenience you experienced due to your air conditioning needing additional repairs last summer.
We care about your safety; had either of our technicians reported the unit being a fire hazard this would have been addressed. We understand the convenience of replacing your entire system at one time. However, the warranty only covers mechanical failure and your air handler was the only component that failed. We approved for replacement of your air handler and provided the option to receive a cash out which you could have put towards the replacement of your entire system.
We’re sorry that miscommunication about the charges ineligible for coverage added to your frustration. We absorbed a portion of these charges to offset your out of pocket costs.
We value you as a customer and thank you for taking the time to share feedback about your experience. While we hope that you don’t experience an emergency in your home any time soon, we’d like the opportunity to show you that we aim to provide a hassle free experience.
Sincerely,Stephanie

He went to Alexandria and picked up the part and brought it back but the heater's still not right to the point we're frustrated.
We ordered a new heater because we can't deal with this anymore. I mean this is ridiculous. We had them replace the water heater. It took us a whole week. We've had no problem with them. The claims have all been handled very, very professionally and expeditiously. But we did have a problem with the contractor on the hood replacement.
The guy that actually came out and did the work was okay, the quality of the work was fine. He was not accustomed to doing range hoods but worked primarily on refrigerators, air conditioning, and heating. But the company that TotalProtect called to get him out here was impossible to work with. At the end of the first day at work, the technician told us that he had to take the old range hood again so that he could get measurements and whatnot for an exhaust tube extender. He told us that he would be back the next day. The following day, he didn’t show up so I called him and he said he’d be back before noon the next day. Noon came and went and at 2 o’clock in the afternoon, I called and they said, “Oh, we will not be able to make it today.” I was a little upset with that. All of a sudden he shows up on my doorstep...
They didn’t want to send somebody out to see what needed to be done and wouldn’t honor the technician’s return date and time so I pushed it. And it is all fixed now. They finally finished it. If this was the case, I can not understand why TotalProtect could not cover this. The money we paid towards the deductible could have went towards fixing the problem. We could have found someone else much cheaper to fix the problem for which we did. We immediately canceled our membership with this cut throat company. We will do our research before we throw our hard earned money again. We will definitely let others know that TotalProtect is a rip off.

Things break down and it costs a lot to repair it and a home warranty seemed like it was a good way of protecting your stuff and getting it fixed for a reasonable price. TotalProtect was cheaper and covered more stuff than the others. They’re good at getting someone out to repair at an accurate time. The claims representatives are very friendly and the technicians were great. They’re an awesome company and do a good job.

I had TotalProtect by the mortgage company since 2006 and I’m fairly pleased with them. In the past, I’ve had good experiences with them but on this last incident, it was just sketchy how they handled things. There is no problem in submitting the claim but it’s getting the claim taken care of in a timely manner. I had a water tank go out on me on a Friday afternoon and it was the following Tuesday before I could get hot water in my house again. The work was fine and they knew what they were doing but they were overcharging me. I’m 65 years old and my wife is 66. Why should we have to go three or four days without hot water? They need to readdress the warranty and that guarantee.

I got TotalProtect through my mortgage company. What made me decide to look into it is that it's like an insurance policy in case something broke down. Submitting a claim was good. The only thing I was a little disturbed over is the last time I called and we were having problems with our heat, they weren't able to get a hold of anybody. I hope that if we had any really serious cold that they could find someone to come out. The claims rep was very good. I did it online but the lady I talked to on the phone was extremely nice. I also talked to several different staff and they were all very, very courteous. The last electrician that came was extremely nice too. He realized that whoever had come before had (was the same company), as we suspected, made a mistake. He said that they had made an error on the part that they put in. That’s why we had a problem with it again. He fixed it and would not take the $85 for service. He said that he talked to the company because it was their fault and I was extremely impressed by that. The quality of the work he did was excellent. I would recommend TotalProtect. I have less worry having them.

Our Washer stopped working unfortunately the day after we had coverage with Total protect. Paid $125 for technician to come in. He looked at the issue gave us a receipt saying that control board and bearing on the back needs to be replaced.
Didn't hear back from Total protect. So followed up with them after couple of days to find out status. We got a nasty surprise!! Total Protect said that the technician thought it was a pre-existing condition and so Total protect won't cover any of the problem!!! Technician was another company (a subcontractor to Total protect). The technician did not mention anything about pre-existing condition to us when he looked at the problem either!! I called Total Protect a few times but they were stubborn in denying coverage!
I therefore made the delightful call to Total Protect one more time to cancel all our coverages with them. In fact we had coverage on one more house with Total Protect but at this point I lost confidence that they would over that house as well. I therefore cancelled our coverage on both houses we had insured with them/ I didn't want to deal with them anymore!!!
Consumers beware. This company won't hesitate to deny coverage even though you have a coverage with them! I won't deal with this company any more! Hope this helps.

Anand, I’m sorry to hear that you decided to cancel your warranty due to the outcome of your clothes washer claim. We don’t intend to outright deny claims, we adhere to the Terms and Conditions of your Agreement. As with any warranty there are conditions that are not eligible for coverage. The parts, control board and bearing, are eligible however the cause of failure in this instance is not. Should you decide to reenroll we can customize a plan to meet your specific needs. - Stephanie

Our experience with TotalProtect service has been great. My wife was the one who found them and told me that's what we needed to do. She handles the paperwork and I've dealt mainly with the technician. They've been kind, courteous and very informative. I haven't had any issues as far as them completing the work on time and doing satisfactory work so I'm very pleased with that. There was only one incident that I was not happy with. We had had a gentleman come out to do air conditioning and I wasn't pleased with him. He was trying to sell an additional service rather than being concerned about fixing the problem. I called TotalProtect and asked him not to come back out. Other than that, everything has been fine.

I have had nothing but problems with this company. What they don't tell you is that if you claim more than you pay in premium for the entire year, they bill, you, really? Is that not why you have insurance?
When I called to cancel my policy, they stated that they would send a list of claims to me, I never received them.
I am calling back tomorrow to find out what is going on?

My house was made in the 50s and all the appliances came with our home, with the exception of our washer and dryer. With TotalProtect, I usually submit a claim online and then depending on what the email says, either call the company that they outsource to or sometimes TotalProtect calls me and they schedule it for me with the outsourced company. Their claims process is easy. Although I wish there were more in the descriptive areas to describe what my issue is. Most of the time my technician shows up and all they have is my washer is broken. The last claims representative I talked to was fine. She called me and made sure that the warranty covered the problem my washer was having and she scheduled to have Sears come out. The technician was real nice. He was done in an hour and a half. He did great and didn't even have to take my dryer off. He was able to pull the front off of the washer, put it in, and it's still working right now.
Also, I did have an issue that they found and were able to fix. My current mortgage company wasn't charging me for my TotalProtect. I would call TotalProtect and say they're not charging me anything. It's supposed to be built in to my mortgage. My coverage never lapsed even though I ended up being 3 months behind and had to pay out of pocket for that before it finally got added to my mortgage. They were always working with me. My experience with TotalProtect has been nothing but pleasant.

It’s been over 10 years that we've had TotalProtect... when I first purchased this house and even before that. When I owned my house before in Stanford we subscribed to their service. We know them as TotalProtect now but I seem to recall that there was another name before that. Anyway, I’ve never been rejected when I submitted a claim. There were times when I felt like boy I should have gotten a new burner, for example, and I didn’t get one. Instead, the problem that existed with that particular burner was fixed and fixed adequately. So I understood why I didn’t get a new burner and that that was not your purpose, which every time something breaks, to replace it.

We’ve had TotalProtect for a number of years now and we’ve been happy with it. The claims representatives were courteous and answered all my questions. The technicians were always very nice. All except for one claim that we had, the quality of work has been very good. For the plumbing situation, they usually use Hers and His Plumbing and they did get out for a leak that we were having that was squirting water everywhere for several days. They called another company and whenever the guy fixed the plumbing, he left a tiny pinhead hole in the pipe so it leaked. My husband ended up crawling up under the house, getting new pipes, putting it in there and fixing it. I told TotalProtect about it and they reimbursed our $75. They did real well.

My mortgage company told me about TotalProtect Home Warranty. When I first got it, it wasn't that much. The cost was only $37 a month and the deductible was $60 and it was worth it. My interaction with their reps were sometimes difficult because when I made claims some of the people processing the claims don't say the same thing. Some of them don't know. I would talk to someone else and they'll say it's not right. It's just a matter of training and they need to be trained the same way. The last one I called, the lady told me something wasn't covered. I had to talk to the supervisor. The technicians are okay but sometimes they send technicians that don't know. Sears came out here but the person didn't know what he was doing. There was one technician from Triad Plumbing in Raleigh, North Carolina and that's the best one that they had ever sent. We’ve had Total Protect for at least ten years now. We haven’t had to use it too often, but when we’ve used it we’ve had good experience. The people that have come out have been very professional and they do the job and they just represent them all very well. The last one we had somebody out was last month. We had a problem with my sink, my lavatory in the master bedroom. I have dual sinks and one of them was stuck up. I attempted to repair it but found that it needed a special part. The man who came out says he was the owner of the company, told me what the problem was, but wasn’t sure Total Protect was going to cover it. But he asked me to pay him $75 before he left, which I did. Total Protect called me to say it wasn’t covered. I told her I don’t want the same plumbing company and asked her for referrals. She gave me two names, and the one that came out was very professional and repaired it in less than 15 minutes.
My dealings with them have always been very professional, although sometimes they need to do a better job of screening the contractors. Nonetheless, I did recommend and would recommend them because Total Protect has saved me significant costs when I needed them.

Don't waste your money. These companies will collect your premiums and then find a way to avoid paying the claim.
This is after trying to get a service person out - I had to call three different repair services as the first two told me they refuse to work with Total Protect or Cross Country because they are too difficult to work with and don't pay claims.
The third company that did actually come out told me straight up the unit is dead but Total Protect will find a way to not pay for it.
That's exactly what happened. The unit is 30 years old and they won't pay for it because it has dust in it. Wouldn't anything 30 years old have dust in it?
I paid for my warranty for 7 years - $3,187.80 - and only had one claim. My air conditioner died and they refused to pay it.
The $3,187.80 would have more than covered the cost of the replacement - save your money!
It's a total scam.
