First time I called to file a claim, I got on the internet and everything went professional, so I'm satisfied completely with TotalProtect. The last technician that came here called and said he will be a little bit late but he was only about 10 to 15 minutes late so it was no problem, and then he came in and I said what I wanted him to do and he checked it out. I was up there with him and he told me what he was doing and so forth. I went in the house and every time he needed something, he said "I need to do this right here", and so everything went smoothly. It was pretty good. They had to come back a second time, but that was understandable and they took care of the situation right on the spot. When they finished, there was no debris or anything left around. They cleaned up everything.

I talked to a couple of close friends who saw the value in getting a home insurance for appliance. I started looking into that and then I followed up a couple of companies that saw some reviews, narrowed it down to two or three companies and picked HMS. So far it has been great when submitting claims. Their representatives are fantastic. They keep me up to date on what's going on and are very open to my suggestions. Most of the contractors that come out are polite. There was one that I had problem with but as long as the work was done in time, that was okay. I have recommended it to my daughter and my friends and they have bought the service.

The representatives I've talked to when submitting a claim were really good, quick, and professional. The technicians they sent out have all been absolutely excellent. The entire experience has been great.

I'm a realtor and I found HMS to be very good. I have tried other companies but I really feel that their follow-up is exceptional - they keep after it, make sure everything is done and that I'm covered. The only problem I had is that HMS doesn't cover faucet repair. I had a leak underneath the sink so the technician came out and found that it was the faucet that was leaking. But since it isn't covered, everything stopped. I felt it was ridiculous since he was already there and it could have been done in an hour. Plus once he started working on it, the pipe system literally fell apart because evidently the faucet had deteriorated. Now there's no water in that room unless I do something else to clear the problem and I'm finding this situation really difficult. It feels like a silly thing for the faucet not to be covered so I hope they add that in. However, I'd still recommend HMS to people.

My realtor recommended HMS so we have them as our home warranty provider. One of their contractors, Baptist Heating and Cooling, was very good and they came out about three times already. However the last guy who came out for the water heater spent most of his time on his cell phone. I really didn't get to talk much with him, and he made a mess in my kitchen and I wasn't happy with that. When he came into the kitchen and did the faucet, crap squirted everywhere which I had to clean up. When I mentioned something about the water pressure being better in the bathroom, he kind of eluded to the fact ─ that it was probably my imagination. He was a nice guy but I would not want him to come back.

I'm in the real estate business so other than getting people to sign up for this, I got HMS for my own property. In my personal experience when submitting claims with my house, the first time around they were helpful. It wasn't really their fault particularly but they have certain contractors that they work with, and I have a unique system at my house. It's a boiler that actually heats the water, which in turn deals with my heating system and its several zones.

I explained this to HMS when they were going to call their contractor to make sure that their contractor worked on this kind of system because I didn't want to wait for somebody to come down to fix the thing, and then when they come down here, for them to say that they don't do this system and don't know how it works. I ended up getting somebody that called first and said they do this system, then called back HMS to say that it was out of their area. So HMS found another person who came to the house, but that was also not a system he knew how to work on. Finally, I got so tired and said, "I'm going to go ahead and get a person to do it," and I did. HMS was very generous and reimbursed me. After that, whenever I had to call for a problem for this particular system, they've called that company and it's been very efficient since then because those people know the system.

It’s not too hard to submit a claim with HMS but as far as getting them done when you need it done, that’s another issue. The people I’ve been talking to on the phone haven’t been doing what they say they’re supposed to be doing on their side. I had an issue with a furnace, and they couldn’t get anybody to fix it. I had to wait a day on that. I currently have another issue with just a water pipe. I called yesterday to file a claim and the lady who was very nice on the phone said “call back after two hours and I’m putting this on emergency status.” I called back two hours later and the other person that answered the phone said “nope, nothing’s been done on this. Nothing went to dispatch. There was no emergency put on it.” So it was just kind of upsetting that I don’t have the company again coming out until sometime today.

Every time I try to work with them on the phone and try to get something handled, it’s just “oh we can’t do that, we can’t do this.” That was not good customer service and frustrating. When you ask to speak to somebody else, they get off the phone with you for a few minutes and then come back on and say “this is what I can do.” Would be nice if I’d be able to get a manager or somebody on the phone that can do something or explain things better.

I had an issue with our furnace and HMS sent the same company that they had sent last year to fix a different issue and that was a big deal for us in that respect. These guys were already familiar with the furnace and I already trusted them. They did a great job. Found out exactly what the problem was. Also, HMS scheduled things very, very well. In fact, they came reasonably late in the day since the call was late in the day. And had to order a part, but were here by 11:00 the next day. Couldn't have been a better experience. They were excellent. When we sold our earlier house in November, we included an HMS warranty with that as well.

I notice lately that they've been more automated than in the past but any interaction has always been really good. I've had a couple of things that they've done so I've had two different technicians that have all been so professional - very honest, and straightforward. The last one was better than any of the rest. We were expecting a really big problem with our unit, and he came, looked, and said there was just the cable that wasn't connected the last time, the way it was set up. He connected it and the only thing we had to pay was for the deductible. He was courteous, and seemed very knowledgeable. Since then, things have been running just perfect.

HMS Home Warranty is pretty nice. I called and they told me that the Sears man would come out. The guy was great. He came in the late afternoon and found that he needed a part that he did not have. He said, "I'll go back if you're going to be here." I said, "Yes." He said he will be back around 5:30. I thought he was going out of his way because it was just an ice-maker that needed to be repaired. I told him, "No big deal, I can wait a little more if you want. It hasn't worked in quite a while and we've got another one in the basement." He went off to get the part, came back, and put it together. He asked if there's anything else. I said, "There's a thing downstairs. It's not working quite right. It's not under warranty." He said, "Let me look at it," and he fixed it right up and he didn't charge anything for that.

TotalProtect was heaven-sent. When I built my home down here in Alabama, I took it out through Regions Bank and they sent a TotalProtect flyer in with their literature. Regions Bank said, "Well, your house is 17 years old now. You want to have some insurance on it." I said, "Well, I’m the mechanic here. I fix everything that breaks, so let me look into it."

It has been most profitable for me and TotalProtect is a good program. I had a problem with the refrigerator and there’s a vendor that I use down here, Air Doctor, which is very, very good and they had to replace some type of a heater in there for the defroster. He came in and he fixed all that, and it didn't quite work. He came back and finished it. The gas range acted up and he fixed that too. This past month, the blower on the oven went and my wife has been complaining about the dryer not working. He came in and he fixed both of them.

The technician communicated with us extremely well, told us what the problems were and fixed them. He also ensured that there wasn’t another problem working -- that they haven't got to come back for another call. He did his work very complete. I used to manage technicians in IBM and I'd say I'd hire him in a heartbeat because he's good. It's a very good service and I think the attitude that was portrayed to the technician was to do a good job. He was comfortable working with TotalProtect, knowing that he was totally supported by them.

While they were servicing my equipment, the technician was working for another vendor putting in and fixing a heater. It was freezing with 20 degrees and so letting them fix it, they had to analyze the cost of the parts and where to find the cheapest. It was cold for three days and he said, "I can't work on it. They're not going to pay me if I do it. But the people you got, they fix the problem and take care of everything." That’s quite a statement from the technician servicing me at my home. Today, it's 72 degrees and my air conditioning is working extremely well. I want it to keep going that way. Otherwise, I call my Air Doctor after I call TotalProtect and say, "Could you send Air Doctor out to me?"

So right now this insurance is very beneficial. The work has been done professionally and I'm very happy. I can't believe TotalProtect would offer a service like this -- it's wonderful.

When I call, it's not like I have to wait for the next day to get any kind of response or to get any type of technician to come out. If I call today, the longest it takes is for me to make a phone call. They'll put me on a three-way call with the company and then they come out and do what they have to do. It's been like that ever since I've had any type of problems. Their techs are all experienced and professional. They take the time, if I have questions, to explain the systems.

My furnace began making horrible noises (sounds like a train rumbling through our home when the heat kicks in) last week and prior to the noise starting we felt reduced air flow (heat) from the vents.

I called Cross Country and explained the situation. They sent a tech on 02/28/15 from Edwards Plumbing and Heating to our home who was rude and passive aggressive (asked him to please remove his shoes which he did, but then scowled - and proceeded not to talk to me).

When the tech decided to talk at the end of the visit, he said that the bearings were bad and would need to be replaced but first he would need to talk with the insurance company to see if they would cover the claim. We asked him if it was safe to use the furnace and he said that it "should be unless it overheats."

We were informed the following day that our claim was denied because the furnace was mechanically sound - that it was functioning. I asked Ebony (Cross Country supervisor) to please explain how the insurance company deemed it mechanically sound? If an appliance is making a tremendous noise and has reduced output (heat), how is that mechanically sound? Ebony told me that they won't replace bearings due to noise. What about reduced heat? She said that the tech didn't indicate that.

The leasing agent threw in the HMS policy when I first purchased my home. So far, I've requested services but I haven't submitted any actual reimbursement. I know I was allowed a reimbursement for a service for the furnace the first year. Since I didn't have any issue, you're allowed to have a service call and they would reimburse for that but I did not submit that but was told that they will do so. And three other times, I called in. It was pertaining to actual service repairs and with that, I had to pay a $100 deductible, so there is no claim to submit. I would recommend them.

When we purchased the home, HMS Home Warranty was included with one year left. Unfortunately right after we moved in we used the washing machine and it broke so we called HMS to submit a claim. We had a wonderful experience. I appreciate that everybody made it easy for us. Sometimes the representatives are busy but I understand that everywhere is busy if you have more and more customers.

So overall I’m really satisfied with everything that I did with HMS. It’s the second time we’ve renewed with them and it’s gonna be renewed again in May. We renewed with them because of the promise of "peace of mind" and it’s a good promise to me because it’s really peace of mind that I don’t have to worry about anything. Also they gave me really good options. Like you can make the $500 payment or just one payment. Or you can add the $50 extra to reduce your deductible $50 instead of $100 dollars.

There was one situation though where they didn't tell me or explain things to me until the technician came out and said, "They should have asked you: Was it inside the home or outside the home?" Because he said it would save him a trip and I wouldn't have to pay $50 for him just to tell me the problem was inside as opposed to outside, because if it was outside, they said they weren't responsible for it. They never asked that question. Everything else has been fine other than that. All the technicians that have been out so far have been actually great. I would say it was a very good job. I have a recirculating pump on the water heater and they installed against the drywall and the whole house vibrates when it's running. I'm not too happy with the way it was installed. I'm not sure that it was correct. In other words, there's no water in it until there is a back flow, a back flush, but they installed mine hanging down so it stands to reason it's already filled up with water as far as I can see. It looks jerry-rigged to me. Also, I got charged for an expansion tank and I'm checking with the Massachusetts and southern other states that require an expansion tank, they show it pointing up. They set it outside and called a friend of theirs who specialize in selling water tanks.

I called the plumber at Sin City, the receptionist was on home leave, we missed it. I got to think if they missed me, they must have missed everybody else. On top of that, they're charging me $6 to haul the water tank away, which I assumed they would but no so I'm working on it right now. I'm not sure whether I'm going to go to the state inspector. I was recommended. It's been over a month now and I think $140 for an inspection from the City. I called the City yesterday, they have no word on it but they promised me that they would have an inspector out here shortly so I'm going to give them another week before calling the inspector again. According to the City, they should've applied for a permit when they put the water heater in and they didn't. It has usually been very good until this moment. I won't let them come in again, that's for sure.

In fact I’ve had the contractor I hired to fix the ceiling come back and paint part of my house too just on my own.

If the job is done right the first time, they explain to you the issue once it is identified. They take the problematic item apart, brief you on what the problems are, and tell you what it would take to fix it. I've had good luck with the claims so far. However, when I called in for my refrigerator, the first contractor came to look at it and said he will need a week to get the needed part, but I never heard back from him. Finally another technician came out and by the time he got it diagnosed and got the parts in, it was another five days. So I was without a refrigerator for the better part of a month. They finally said that it had to be replaced in about three weeks and it was another week or so before I got a new one. My most recent claim was great though. It was for my air conditioner, and the tech that came out had the replacement part on his truck, and the whole thing was repaired in an hour. It couldn't have gone any better. Overall, I'm satisfied and I'm getting what I'm paying for.

On the customer service end, I remember there was one young lady and I was pretty unhappy because the earliest appointment they could get me was three days from what I wanted and I had a plumbing issue with water everywhere. What she did was put me on hold and really research to see if there were any other companies in the area. Given the fact that it was the weekend, it was the earliest appointment that I could get.

And the technicians, some are really impressionable. They explained everything good. My plumbing issue turned out to be a big waste so it was just something that had to do with the faucet, it wasn't lined properly. They came and spent 15 minutes. They took the time to say what's causing it and actually showed me how to prevent future issues with the dryer.

I don't have any problems with HMS. It's just the technicians that they sent out. They don't like to listen to what the customer is telling them. I know my unit. I've been in my house for 13 years and I had prime example. Before I called HMS, I had my unit serviced and cleaned before the winter came in. Prior to that, I had the people that gave the service to come back out and they described to me that I need certain parts. They wanted to take an extremely a lot of money. So I said I'll pay for the extra service that I had to pay to have them to come back out.

I called HMS and they sent someone out. I was explaining to the guy what I had done. He tells me, "Well, no, that's not the issue. This is the issue." I said," Sir, I just had service done and they pointed to me exactly what the problem was, okay?" He didn't fix that but fixed the motor instead. He said "The motor was going bad, okay?"

Apparently not only the motor is working but I'm still having the same problems that I told them prior to the other service people I had. It had a loud noise without even comparing my noise on my unit with my neighbor next to me and it takes a long time for my unit to cut off. It goes into auxiliary which makes my bill go extremely high. I know we had cold weather but I never seen this happened long as I've been in my house.

I just told him what it was doing and he says "Oh, okay." He looked at the stove long enough to get the model number and he left. He said we have to order the part so I said okay. It was a week or a week and a half. The part came in, he changed the part and left. Within 10-15 minutes, the stove was doing the same thing it was doing before. So I called back and then they sent somebody, then they called GE and GE couldn't come back for another week and I said "I've already been out without my stove for two weeks now and that will be like a whole month."

So they sent out somebody else from another company and he came out. He looked at the stove and he says "Well, it's not what the first guy says. It's this," and it was just an element that he could replace right then. He had to order the right part because he didn't have it, but that only took a day or two and he had me up and running in four days from the time he came and got it. So I was very happy with the second guy, but I was not happy with the first one. TotalProtect was really good to come right back and help and send me somebody else out that could help, which was nice. It's just the first guy that I was not happy with.

Our house is 135 years old so it's got some other problems with it but the HMS has taken care of it so far. I've submitted three claims so far. One time they didn't think that it fell into the realm of what was being covered, and I said it's part of the heating system. They finally said that they'll have a contractor call us from a company that's in our area. The contractor came out and I had to pay him $100 deductible and they took care of it. And this happened on a couple of occasions.

Two out of the three claims we submitted were good. One of the claims, they took out a zone valve in my heating system so it's broken and if we replaced it, it's gonna be timed down and it's cold out that time. So I told them to circumvent it or go around it. They took it out and now my heating in that section of the house is screwed up. They shouldn't have done that and should have just replaced it. Partially, it was my fault but some people said these are particularly touchy and if they're not versed in them, they shouldn't be screwing around with them. I don't want to take the time to go through qualifying them and ask if they have been versed in the different types of zone heating that's available, and the aquastat measurements for your thermostat, or figuring it so that it goes on right and goes off. But overall, they've lived up to what I was told. With any warranty system, there's always bottom lines that are hard to reach.

Once I got them on the understanding that my hot water heater is not working and I can't take a lot of time for them to research when the plumber (who is, by the way, on their list of approved plumbers) says he can provide something, the cycle time to get this done went from seven to ten business days to a day and a half. Which is good because...have you ever tried to take a cold shower or cold bath? It's not fun, right? So finally when we got on the same sheet in understanding the urgency, it got elevated to a faster pace which is what has to happen.

I understand the hierarchy...I understand the paperwork. But when people are down and out, they can't wait that many days for solutions. They are there to react, but are sometimes slow to react...meaning, they are there for me to call, but the response time has got to be improved. I live in a house that was built in 1988 and there are some parts that have been replaced and some not, so TotalProtect may hear from me again at some point. I also think he felt obligated to fix the dryer, even though he couldn’t really say the repair was gonna be a long-term fix. If it was not a long-term fix and we continue to have problems three months down the road, we’re gonna have to call again, say that it’s not working adequately, and then pay another $100 deductible. I don’t think that should be right and I wouldn’t be very happy about it. I am concerned about the service quality being adequate because there’s no real warranty for the item used for an extended period of time.

I'm in the real estate business and I believe in home warranty. That said, I'm very happy with TotalProtect. When I need to submit a claim, I just called them, go online, and do the follow up--that easy. The claims representatives were very cordial, friendly, caring. The technicians that have come to our home were outstanding: they're trustworthy and very considerate with my property. I once had to leave them alone for a while and when I came back, everything was perfect. And when they completed it, it looked like they'd never been there. And they were willing to accommodate me by replacing the same efficiency unit I had. I did pay an extra amount to get the higher efficiency unit, but it was my cost. I'm happy with the new unit I've got--It's a 95% efficient unit and I'm very pleased with that. They're an outstanding company and a pleasure to do business with.

HMS Home Warranty usually got back with me quickly, except this last time. The last time that I called, my water heater went out, and they put me in contact with a plumber. But the plumber never called me back. They called me back about five days later. And I never heard anything else from HMS Home Warranty. They sent me an email about six days afterwards to ask if the problem was finished and if I got results. But the bottom line is, the plumber didn't come out and I didn't hear anything else from HMS, so I had to go outside and get somebody else. But that was the only time this happened. And I think that was because they were getting a lot of calls because of the weather (it was snowing) so I really can't hold that against them.

I still highly recommend HMS despite this because prior to that, they have gotten back with me and they have set me up through appointments, given me telephone numbers, and they have also followed up. The technicians that came to service our appliance diagnosed the problem. They told me exactly what was wrong, what they would do, and that they would also do a follow-up. The quality of their work was very good. Most of the time when they've come out, they were able to fix the problem the very first time they came out so they didn't need to come back.

I had bought some property before and then I had a problem and I didn't have home warranty. I wasn't even aware that you could get coverage like that. So when I inquired with our realtor about home warranties he brought up HMS and I thought it was a good idea.

It would have been nice to talk to somebody when calling to make a claim. My experience was, you get this recording and they give you a claims number and then they give you this other information like the phone number and all these different things that you gotta jot down. I had to run that thing through maybe four or five times to make sure I had all the information right because it was so fast. So that's one thing that could be improved upon. Other than that, I got a claims number and then I was called back later with a company called Boldts Plumbing and Heating. They sent somebody out and fixed my problem for us. I was surprised how well it worked, which is a good thing for this day and age. It's pretty easy. Way better than I thought it would be.

To my relief, I called HMS and a real person talked to me. She immediately put me on hold and contacted the plumber, came back and gave me his contact information, said he would be contacting me when they opened because this was early in the morning. The plumber called me after. Everything went through so smoothly - he came and went downstairs, checked out the hot water heater and confirmed that there is a problem.

The plumber said he'll contact HMS immediately to get the problematic part replaced in a timely fashion. It was almost weekend so they couldn't do it 'til the next week but they kept in touch with me just to make sure that it wasn't leaking any worse and that everything was okay. Everything was just great and I would call that plumber again next time - that's how much I liked him. I'm just absolutely thrilled with HMS' service that I'd recommend them all the way.

Like one time, we had a water chink and water heater most recently replaced, they were really good. The only thing which has nothing to do with HMS, it just might be the weather, is that we had to wait two weeks before we could get the water tank replaced. We were nervous because it was dripping into the basement, and the technician said "Call us if the bottom falls out." If that happens then hot water would have gone all over our finished basement. Every morning we were hoping that it didn't completely fall apart, and it didn't. Luckily the technician was great. We would use him again.

The TotalProtect covered all of the systems and appliances within the house. Other home warranties, you had to buy separate warranties for your heating system, your cooling system, etc. So it just seemed like TotalProtect had a broader span of coverage and a good price.

We have had an issue or two in the past with some of the service reps. In one case, it was a hot water heater that was draining all over the floor. The service rep indicated that they will send someone within 24 hours and I said, "Hey, I got water all over my floor. What do you mean by 24 hours to get somebody out?" In order to get that emergency situation taken care of, we used our own plumber and then it wasn't covered because we didn't use their plumber. In that case, when you got a water heater that's draining water all over your floor, there is no way to stop this. This is not just a basement -- we're on a slab here, all the floors are finished, etc. We needed help in a hurry. So in that sense we weren't really happy.

For the latest one, our furnace was making a very loud grinding noise, and so I called TotalProtect and the service rep said, "Here's the number. Call these people. They'll come out but if it is not a failure of the unit then it's not covered." It's kind of that warning that if it's not a failure, then it's not covered when I thought it seemed to be perfectly obvious that something was failing. Otherwise, I wouldn't be getting this very loud grinding sound. I wasn't real happy with the attitude of the claims rep. That proviso could have been explained a little more gently. Then they called the rep. This was about 9 o'clock in the morning. We got an appointment with the rep for some time after 12 o'clock noon. It was same day service so that was fine.

I then got a callback from the rep's office saying he was finishing up his job and could he come early and I said, "Sure, that's great." An hour after I called, he was knocking on the door and this guy walks in the house, totally professional with some little booties over his shoes because it was snowing outside, and diagnosed the problem, located the part, went and got the part and the furnace was back up and running by 12:30. So I was extremely happy with the service rep. That has not been the case with all of their service reps in the past. If it's an appliance issue, we specifically ask for Sears Repair because we know they deal with Sears and they have a very prompt, professional service group, but some of the small, independent companies are real sketchy. Thankfully that's in the past. This latest guy was fantastic.

I don't have a problem with TotalProtect, not per se; I've been with them for about five or six years and everybody's usually nice and polite and right on point. But I have a problem with the people that they have contracts with. I had a garbage disposal situation. I needed a new one. TotalProtect found somebody and made the appointment but after that, I don't know if they have any control over what happens once they make the appointment and the person is supposed to come out, and they give you the phone number.

I was very, very disappointed with the company they sent, Alliance Plumbing. The man was supposed to do my garbage disposal. We set a time. He never came. That was in January. I told them that I was out of school that day, so could they come? This man never showed up, never called. The next day which was a regular day, I called the company, and I told the secretary that the person never showed up, and she said, "We'll make sure." So later on that week, they did come. I might have been last on the list cause it was at night when he came. But that was the most unpleasant experience that I've had. I guess if they get enough complaints, they'll stop using those companies.

Still, I'm happy that I have TotalProtect because my husband is in a nursing home with a terminal illness, my son lives in California, I don't have a man here to do certain things. Like Saturday morning, I turn the jets on in my Whirlpool just to clean out the lines, and then I turned it off and I didn't have any hot water. But I found out since then and I called TotalProtect. They hooked me up with someone that was supposed to get back with me today. But as it turned out, I continued to call around and talk to people. And someone told me that I probably had an air pocket in the line, and just wait a while. And it worked. Later, my water became hot so I guess that bubble had to dissolve itself. So I called TotalProtect this morning and cancelled the claim, and that was that.

I'm pleased with TotalProtect. When you're in a home, things break down all the time so I have to have somebody that I can rely on that knows what they're doing, to come out and help me with the different things. I would definitely recommend TotalProtect to someone, especially in my position.

That is until Tuesday Fe 10, 2015.That morning while getting ready to be at work at 4:00am, my water heater died. when I got to work, I called Total Protect to file a claim. The representative was helpful and got the info, she called the3 plumbing company and left a message since the weren't open yet and called me back to let me know what was happening. She told me they would call as soon as the got the message and arrange to take care of my problem, she gave me the name of the company and reminded me that I needed to pay them the $75 deductible for the repair or replacement. Well anyway the company called promptly when the open, and arranged to go to my home and take care of the problem. The repairman stopped my job and picked up the check, and called after having to replace the water heater and said every thing was done and good to go. Well, several hours later when I got home the plumbing company called and said that Total Protect had called and told them, that there was a $500 limit, I said no, that since originally purchasing the plan , I was told there was a $75 deductible change for any covered repair. Well anyway the plumbing company said, that was not what Total Protect said, and that they would have to bill me for $300 and some dollars. I called Total Protect to see what was going on. They told me that there was a $500 dollar limit,I became very angry and said that was not the contract I purchase, the snippy rep. said well you should have upgraded you contract, well I told her, I had never known there was an upgrade and they never tried to inform me of such an option, which since I was already steaming, just made me angrier, she said she would connect to the president's office. Where another person told me that there was $500 limit, I repeated that was not what I had purchased in 2005, and basically told that was the way it was, and still I became angrier. It seems they must have a bounty program , to screw people out of their money. I told them they were unethical, unprofessional and crooks. I then proceed to call the plumbing company and asked them if the had similar things like this in the past. They said no, the said they deal with quite a few warranty companies , including this one, and this was the first time it had come up. I called another company, they said the same thing, that they hadn't heard of anything like this. So I figured, I was being ripped off. So I called a couple of other home warranty companies, asked them what their practices entailed, they said the client paid the deductible on a covered service and they took care of the rest. So anyway I called Total Protect back , and said I wished to cancel the shady, shifty and crooked service. I was told that I couldn't cancel my contract until August, or pay them $291, to cover their services. I asked that the 10 years that I had their service , paid the premiums every month, and got virtually no service from them, counted for nothing, they could repay all the money they stole, scammed and did nothing for and they could take the $291 out of that and return the rest, since they hadn't done anything. I have contracted with AHS, which unlike Total Protect is an honest, ethical and reputable company, the best thing that Total Protect, can do is go bankrupt and go out of business, and clear the way for companies that honor their commitments . I plan to file complaints with The Consumer Protection Agency, Iowa Consumer Protection Agency, The BBB, The Iowa Attorney General Fraud Commission, as well as the Iowa State Insurance Commission, about the crooked , unethical business practices of Total Protect. I'm sure a large sleazy company like them don't care about the common person , who gives them their hard earned money for the fictitious services, but I hope enough of the people they ripoff complain and someday they get justice they deserve.

The claims process is good and easy. However, I wish the tech who serviced my dishwasher had stayed until the cycle went all the way through because then he would have seen if there was water on the floor.

I called TotalProtect for my dryer. The first representative I talked to was very pleasant but the company they gave me couldn't do it for a whole week, and so I called back. The representative, Hunter, was excellent. He set up an appointment for 2 days earlier than that. But the next thing I know, I'm getting a call from a company that would be there tomorrow. So, he kept working and I really appreciated it. I had no problems with the technicians that came. They were very pleasant as well.

The dryer is working for now. I'll know the quality of their repair after I dried quite a few loads of clothes. I think they have to put a new belt on it and the belt to me looked thinner and not as sturdy as the one that came off. But if it works, it works. I've always had good result with them and so I don't have any problems. The only thing I was concerned, was one time when my icemaker went out and they don't cover icemakers. But in this age, icemakers are a part of the refrigerator, and they don't consider it part of a refrigerator. You don't find a refrigerator hardly ever that doesn't have an icemaker on it. But I've had my policy with TotalProtect for at least 10 years and I am very satisfied overall and would recommend them to a friend.

We've had HMS in two of the new house and both claims were very easily taken care of. The technicians I've had come in have done a really good job. The second claim that we did was for a microwave that melted. The other one was one of those real high-end G.E. and the insurance didn't cover that. So they gave us the option of one of a couple that they picked out or cash. When I looked at the ones they had picked out to put in, they were very good and matched the color and the trim. The only thing they didn't have on them was the high-profile name which was fine. They gave me a couple of days to figure it out and do some research online and look around locally at the one they were going to put in because I wanted to make sure it was going to be what we really would want. I was very pleased with the fact that I didn't have to make an on-the-spot decision. It was really, really helpful for me.

TotalProtect is a good company and we've had it for years. Only concern is that it takes longer than what you expect. I had a problem with my microwave. They came, looked at it but took them a long time for a few things. They have to let the company know that it’s covered. If it’s an emergency, it takes a long time until it’s processed.
