I first heard about HMS Home warranty from our real estate person. We chose HMS over other providers because of the recommendation from our realtor. We only had one claim. They got out on a reasonable period of time – couple of days. The pipes were bursting everywhere but they did a very nice job. One highlight of my experience with HMS would be the fact when we did agree on a time and a day, they showed up on time.

TotalProtect had a faster response when claims were submitted and most of the vendors they use were pretty good. I don’t have any complaints whatsoever. I first heard about it from mail I received years ago and I liked the stuff that was covered and the monthly fees were right. No doubt, I will recommend TotalProtect.

When I bought my house, the realtor told me about HMS Home Warranty. He advised me that it's the one he has been using and he is very pleased with the service they provide. I trusted him good enough to go with it. When I filed my claim, it was pretty quick. The claims representative was very nice and professional. They sent somebody immediately to come fix the issue I was having. They got in touch with that person for me. They came a little bit later but they still got taken care of it that night, the same day.
The technicians that came to my house were good. They wanted to put a new one for the piece that they were looking for. They said they had to test on it. If you connect that, it wouldn't start but they cleaned the old one and put it back in and it started working. Since they didn't have a new one with them, they told me that if it happens again, they will order a new one and then they will come and fix it for me without any charge. But it has been working fine since then. That was my first encounter with them and so far, it has been great and I have been very satisfied.

I am satisfied and have peace of mind with HMS. I usually submit claims over the phone and get the automated system. I tell them what's going on and they give me a number of the service provider. I give them a call and they come out and take care of it. It's that easy. I had a technician come out and work on the garage door a month or so ago and he was very knowledgeable and took good care of me. I was very happy.

When I have claim, I call TotalProtect and they assign me a claim number and let me know who's assigned in my area. Either they'll get in contact with the service provider or they'll give me the name and phone numbers of the service providers. The service providers were pretty good and been on time, which is a good thing. I'm very confident about the quality of work they performed.
I do however have a small issue. I had an in-the-wall oven and it was so old that they couldn't find parts for it anymore. So they gave me a credit. But I ended up getting a whole unit, like a whole stove, versus the in-the-wall unit and I couldn't use my credit towards my new stove. I think they should allow me to use that credit tool to purchase my new stove.

TotalProtect has been very good. Things have to be really perfect for me to say it's been very good. I've been a customer of TotalProtect for maybe 9 years. I just had an experience with the dryer which had to be fixed. It didn't get fixed right away as it normally does. I think part of the problem was the fact that the dryer is 15 years old. In fact, I called TotalProtect, and I was surprised that they were going to fix it because the cost of the parts in fixing it was almost $200. And I know, of course, I've got to pay the $75 for each call. So I was a little surprised that they didn't just put another one in.
But, whatever, just as long as the dryer works, that's all I really care about. And they're going to come out on Monday, the 13th, and do the repair on it. The parts have arrived here and they're waiting for the technician. How good is the plan? I have to be honest with you. I get offers from other companies that offer plans. But until you guys let me down, I'm not big on making changes.

The contractors that HMS send us vary at times. Sometimes they're fast and sometimes slow which is my only complaint. For instance in fixing a dryer, it took over a week to get it fixed. We got a hot water heater that was replaced that took about a week as well. But it is more of just the contractor was busy. They were very good overall. I'm happy with HMS's service.

It's been pretty good. TotalProtect has been pretty responsive as far as working with a person when I need somebody to come to the house to repair something. In submitting claims, I call the basic number, give them my policy number and describe what issue that I'm having. They'll try to find somebody who'll be able to resolve my issue. When the technicians come, they already have an idea about the problem so I didn't have to explain it again and they all can see what the problem really is and go from there.

Reviewed April 10, 2015
I like HMS Home Warranty's range of coverage and the price was competitive, and if you're trying to call, the recommendation of vendors was good. When the vendors were going to offer a delayed response - some good, some delayed - I would call back and they would give me another vendor who could respond at times, so they were pretty liberal about that. Also, my dealings with their representatives were all good. Technicians cleaned up after themselves and serviced the work properly. When parts were needed, they inquired about the parts themselves and responded back properly, so no issues whatsoever with the technicians. HMS has a fair market price, the service and representatives were good, and the contractors they recommend have all been very professional. It's the type of product you hope you don't have to use, but has been great when you do.

I have minimum coverage before and I just extended my program to a more coverage. I haven't had any problems submitting claims. One of my tenants complained about the clothes dryer. We just call HMS and the technician goes there, and the tenants have to pay him $50.00 for the trip. We checked HMS out and we decided to go with them because it seemed like it's good, and also our realtor was recommending it. I've submitted a couple of claims and I had no problems at all with anything. The process was relatively painless for me. I reported it and they gave the claim right away for somebody to do the repair pretty much at the same time. Their claims reps were very friendly and knowledgeable. They were able to get it fixed up right away, and both times it was excellent.
During the first claim, we were not there but we were able to work it out with the contractor and someone that had the key to our house. They met and it was a smooth transaction. This last time, we were here and so we got to be involved more directly. It was just disappointing on our part but not because of the contractor or the warranty, it's the way it turned out-- it was something that isn't covered.
The guy helped me out, he told me exactly what the problem was--the dryer needed a new power cord. The guy even showed me what to hook with what and everything. He would have done it himself but he didn't have that particular power cord with him, and so he just told me which one to buy and it worked out pretty good. Up to now HMS have met and even exceeded our expectations for the most part. We're really happy with them and we've had good experiences so far. When we have had a problem, they were right on and helped us get it fixed but it would be nice if they cut the price a little bit although it's right on and they're competitive..

I don't like to have people come back when we've had some disputes but they sent over the same technician to my house. But they were okay, considering what they had to do. I haven't been pleased with some of the companies that TotalProtect sent over. I've been with them for about three or four years and when I complain, it's as if they're not listening because they will recommend the same company which I have been displeased before. In one of my refinances to my mortgage, there was an option where I could choose to have TotalProtect, and they would deduct it out of my payment every month. I've been in my house for 11 or 12 years, and my wife had a major, major breakdown in one of her appliances, that had she not had the home warranty insurance, it really would have strained them financially. So I thought it would be a great idea to get into, and that's what I've been doing and I love it. I find it very easy to submit claims. Their system is all automated it gives me everything that I need to do to handle it right over the phone. I come away after just a few minutes with all the information I need to get the problem fixed.
There have been quite a number of changes since we've been on the program. I'm trying to remember it goes back to before the holidays. I didn't get much response from the very first contractor's information I was given, so I called back and said they were not responding and asked for another one. They were able to do and we got a hold of that guy. That guy was absolutely fantastic. So whenever the one contractor is not responsive, I'm always hoping that there's gonna be a backup plan. For instance, what happened this last time was I've got a tank with water heater. They sent a young man out and he didn't have any experience with it, but he did know enough to kind of tinker with a few things and it's just that the process that he went through actually got the thing working again. But he was all set to handle back to TotalProtect if they could find another contractor that could actually work on a tank with water heater.
Right now I look at TotalProtect as having money in the bank, like having a separate savings account, putting some money away that I wouldn't normally save for any kind of major problem that I'd have with my appliance. It's just like putting it right in a bank account and we're really happy. We've been in our house for 19 years and we still have just about all the original appliances and they're all still working fine. And we do a lot of maintenance on our heating and air conditioning system. We have that worked on, looked at and maintenance done every year. I think that's had a lot to do with keeping that system up and running for 19 years.

I had a very pleasant interaction with their claims reps. I gave them the information they required and verified everything. The technicians that come out would take a look at it. One thing I notice is that on an annual basis, the prices continue to escalate. Between the first and the second year alone, it had initially jumped over 100-and-something dollars. HMS Home Warranty was recommended to us as one of a couple of good choices by our realtor. I went online, checked the coverages of the home warranties he suggested, spoke to those companies' customer service, and I thought HMS was just altogether a better choice for us. The first claim we filed was our most significant, associated with our stove oven, range arrangement, and its gas, and there were some malfunctions with it. HMS sent a vendor out right away. He concluded that it could not be fixed. HMS was very good about explaining to us our options in terms of a replacement versus a credit to get whatever brand we might want that would fit the space. We went with the credit and the same vendor that came out came back out and did the installation. It was very efficient and satisfactory.
I've spoken to several customer reps because we've had other claims over the last couple of years, and they have consistently been very knowledgeable, helpful, and predictable in terms of what they want us to know in terms of the claim number, and explaining the process of the vendor coming out and what our deductible was. The customer service experience has been probably the most noteworthy, and the manner in which claims have been handled have been extremely smooth. I can speak for three of the vendors who's been to the house. They went well with their end of the deal.

We bought a home and they included HMS with the package. It's a one year warranty which was renewable. We had the washer and dryer that came with the house and the washer broke down about six months ago and we were using our washer which we had in our other home. And then the dryer went out about two months ago. So, I phoned HMS about that and they sent a repairman out right away. He checked it out and said he was going to be able to repair them and it was a hundred dollar deductible, which was fine. We had both the washer and dryer working again.
The problem that came up was when we had the bad weather. We had 7 to 8 inches of snow and then it was melting and we had all the rain afterwards and our basement is flooded. We've been exactly one year now at the house, and it never flooded before. There was a defect of broken drain pipe underneath the floor. So, I called HMS about that and they sent a fellow out. He was not allowed to do anything except to try to alter it out. That's what is included with the warranty, and that didn't do anything at all. He charged us a hundred dollar deductible and he left it that way and said that they needed to send out a high-pressure water jet.
I called HMS about that. I said the man didn't do anything and if we can get our money back. And the rep said we have to pay the deductible. And then HMS doesn't cover what the repairman had recommended at all, that's $700 or $800 to have that done. I paid a hundred dollars for nothing. We still had water in the basement. This is why I'm really disappointed about it. The experience with the washer and dryer was perfect but this was really bad. I'm going to have to get a plumber out and the warranty didn't cover any of it.

We have been with Total Protect for years and this is the first time I'm thinking about leaving them. We will be without a refrigerator for 2 WEEKS (or more)!! Our current model has been discontinued and they were unable to find the parts. I got a call that they would be replacing it, she even gave me the replacement model numer (this is 5 days after original call) and would be calling the next morning with the dollar amount. The call we received instead is that they were able to find the parts and would now be repairing it. My husband said "great, can they expidite the parts, we're throwing food out every day". He was told, no, they couldn't do that. I called back and asked for a supervisor, none available (really, 8:00am and they're all on other calls? ) and that I would get a call back by the end of the day. That didn't happen either, so I called them, again and was told, again, what a busy day they were having. Still no supervisor available. This is when I'm told my parts were due at the repair place 8 days out! I pay Total Protect monthly to have peace of mind, no worries with my appliances, what I got was a disgrace. I asked about getting a food credit, they don't do that. My frustratiion is that they would rather spend a week researching parts and another 8 days getting parts to the repair facility instead of getting a working appliance in the customers home quickly. We are a family of 6 who can't afford to throw out that much food.

But in the last one, we had such bad weather and there were so many difficulties, so it was not the fault of anyone, just mother nature, but my furnace went out on the coldest days of the year. It was only like 5 degrees with no heat so I was a little antsy to get it going but at the same time I understood.
The only thing I couldn't understand was why Total Protect ordered the part from the East Coast. Why couldn't they have gotten it locally? It would have been quicker. That's my only question. You have to have some concerns when I was sitting here with no heat. For three weeks the furnace was out. But they got it done eventually. The technicians sent by Total Protect were really good. However, I also wasn't too pleased with the accounting aspect. When I renewed this year, I talked to them and I said, "Yes that's fine, charge me" and they did. Then I started getting phone calls about my payments being past due and I contacted them and I said, "Look, you were supposed to charge this on my credit card." When I bought my property, HMS Home Warranty sent me an information packet in the mail. Because I was a first-time home buyer, I didn't know of any home warranty and it was the first one that came up through the agency that I went through so I went with HMS.
My first experience with them, I was upset because when I called, the person that I talked to told me that we're going to have this done in a few days. They talk good and told me that they had good customer service that's why I was so assured that I was going to get the heating unit in a couple of days. But then the snow came. It was a setback and I waited almost three weeks before I got it. It was so cold that I couldn't stay and had to leave the house. Even the electric heaters would not work; it's just overpowered. Because they had to order it, they had to wait till the person came in to set the heat up.
Problem was I had no accommodation. I said, "If I had nowhere to go, I should have been put in a hotel or somewhere instead of leaving me in the cold like that." I had to sleep on a sofa for two weeks in somebody else's house, back and forth in a freezing house. When the man came here to fix it, it was beyond repair. I got a new heating unit put in but when I did get in the house with the heat, the hot water tank goes bad because the water hadn't been running. The lines were frozen and then the hot water tank started flooding on the floor. The water broke loose all over the floor. I had to call back a second time to get someone out here to do a $50 deductible again. I was very disappointed and dissatisfied. The last claim was not very good. TotalProtect Home Warranty did the appointment and got it exactly on the schedule, in a timely manner. The company that they scheduled to come out and do the work never called on the date when they were coming out. They’re supposed to call. They hadn't even contacted me one way or the other and it stopped until TotalProtect and myself got on a conference call with them. That way we got an update exactly when they were going to come out and complete the service.
The company that came in, the technicians, were either not knowledgeable about the appliances that they were to service or brand new at doing it. They didn't seem to know exactly what they were doing. They had incorrect information, and so we were trying to get an understanding why they were here and then the total attitude just went south. It’s like they decided the way they wanted to do it. They just treated me like they could care less.
They took my microwave combo oven out of the compartment that is fixed in my kitchen and didn't even install it back in properly - left screws out or loose. They screwed the screw all the way through my cabinet. It was a total botched job. We couldn't even use it. It wasn't even working properly. Apparently, when they came out to service it, they did the diagnostics with a report accusing us of misusing the appliance which was not true at all. They were the one who installed the parts in incorrectly.
So when the appliance was still not working properly, I called TotalProtect Home Warranty. When I was talking with the TotalProtect representative, I was trying to explain to him, "no, I don’t know why he would write it up that way, but we were not at all at fault for using the appliance improperly." I explained to them that I did not trust the company because when they did the work, it didn't end properly and installed the parts in properly. That’s why we were calling back to let them know because when I called the company to tell them that the appliance is not operating properly and they need to come back, they told me they can't do it that way.
TotalProtect Home Warranty sent me someone else because this company did not conduct this in a professional manner at all. I had absolutely no problem in my service and my relationship with TotalProtect. We've had numbers of other jobs done and they were excellent. They repaired them properly. It's just this last company was a total, total disaster.

For the most part, it has gone well though I have had a couple of negative experiences where a claim has been rejected. The first one is with my Bosch Dryer. I was charged the full amount and had to pay the repairman because they said it was maintenance. Then the same thing happened also with a different repairperson that they sent who actually found what the initial problem was which was the pump. It was replaced and I haven't had a problem, but I did have to pay out of pocket the first time I called to have it fixed.
Then recently with the dishwasher, I had it repaired last year and it was working and then just within 12 months, the dishwasher seized. It turned out that it was a piece of tool that might have been used to fix it in the first place fell into the motor. When the repairperson found it and took it out, I was told that was a maintenance issue and I had to pay the repairman when in fact it was debris left by the initial repairman from last year. Those two occurrences really bothered me.
The last thing is I had an air conditioning heating unit replaced with a similar model because the model of my unit is already phased out. I got a call from that repairman this week saying he had not received payment. Apparently, he lays out the money and then TotalProtect has to pay him back. It has been a month and a half and he still didn't get his money. He asked me to call TotalProtect to follow up on it, which I did. He was a very honest repairman so I feel badly that as a service provider, he had to call me as the client to help in his collection. Outside of those three circumstances, I had this TotalProtect policy for a year and it has been mostly great.

I like their new automated system more than speaking with the representative, which I think is not working out. But they're very professional. I have no complaints. But when I called about plumbing and the guy came out. He checked it and he said it was the vent and it was going to be thousands of dollars. I gave him $100 for coming out. They told me they gave free estimates and I wasn't to pay anything at all. I kept calling them but they never would answer. Then they answered and I told them I need to have this done.
Since they never would come over, I called Plumb Time and they came over. The guy was very nice and professional and went out and fixed it within 20 minutes. I had to pay him $300-something. So not only was the first contractor wrong, but they gave me a wrong diagnosis and it wasn't the vent. So I told HMS to not use the first contractor. I finally got a hold of someone. The contractor said he was on the phone with them and he had to make sure that they were willing to pay for him to come out after hours, and HMS did, which was awesome. The guy showed up very nice. He did a couple of tests and figured out what it was, fixed it, and it was super nice. He took his time and I'm more than happy. There have been times when I thought "I'm done. I don't want to do this anymore." But I'm always glad when I send that check in, that I'm covered.

This is my first time having this problem with TotalProtect. Before, everything that we had done was covered. But now, we're having a problem with the reimbursement of the $830 we paid out of pocket to get the plumbing service done. We are expecting to get the money back to the exact dollar amount based on what they said they would cover. I'm very upset right now and don't know how to handle it. I've been calling them trying to find out what's going on; we have sent them invoices...what else do they need?
Dear Dwane, I’m sorry for any inconvenience you experienced due to the miscommunication about reimbursement time frames. As a longtime loyal customer we care about you and your experience with us. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to get this resolved for you. As we discussed, I expedited the reimbursement and your check has been sent. Sincerely, Stephanie

I've generally dealt with TotalProtect over the phone and so far haven't had problems with them. There was just this one technician that kept ordering the small part for my refrigerator when what he needed was actually the big part. I think he was just trying to get it a little cheaper. Well in the end, he got the fridge working so it's fine.

Throughout the years I only had one experience where TotalProtect had set up Sears to come out and work on the refrigerator, and I had my mother here waiting for them because I had to work and they never showed up. When I called about it, the technician told TotalProtect that they did show up and no one was here, but my mother was here all day. I just had somebody fix it locally and it was actually a cheap repair, so it was cheaper than probably my deductible would have been. But other than that, submission of claims goes pretty smooth and I've never really had any problems with them. I usually call them because I'd rather talk to a person and they've always taken the information.

It leaked last year and they sent out a person and they filled it up but it just happened again. I want to get it fixed and so if there's a process for fixing that and an assurance that there's a leak or not then I would hope that they would authorize it. If it happens again then I may ditch them because they don't fulfill their coverage. Let's see what happens...

on 3/13/2015 I called in a claim for my stove, washer and dryer (stove bottom coil was not heating, washer was not wanting to Juvenate , and dryer was making noise but drying as it should) I was told, I would pay a one time deductible of $85 for all service for the claim, witch included all 3 appliances. The tec for the washer and dryer came first and took my deductible and proceeded to check out my washer, he then came upstairs and told me he needed to order parts, that wouldn't be in till Thursday (6 days after i called the claim in), so he left my washer, with wires hanging out/front pannel off all those days! He also told me, that my dryer needed barrings and there was rust on upper and lower panel of dryer (the rust is cosmetic and though i'm a woman, know it does't effect the dryer doing it's job) but tec said parts to fix all issues would cost more than a new one (ended up refusing to fix dryer, when requested to go ahead and fix what was covered )
Now for the tec. for the stove.....He requested the breaker be turned off (understandable) but my daughter didn't know witch one, so he flipped it off and he put in a new coil for the stove. He then requested the breaker be turned back on (the breaker did not flip back on), so he tester if there was electric going to the outlet (none was going to it), so he said i would need an electrician b4 he could check if stove worked , but was pretty sure it would. I then called Total Protect and they said, They would send out an electrician after they got back the report and it should only take about 45 min. to do so, as they were sending in a request. I asked if i needed to pay another $85 deductible and they said NO it would be counted as the original claim, No additional deductible! I continued to call every day and same story (they still didn't get the report back on the stove) on Wednesday (5 days after original call) i'm told, that i DO have to pay a deductible of $85!!! Mind you.....My daughter and I are disabled and to be on a strict diet. yet had to go out to eat because i could not cook (fast foods exacerbates our disability) and our going out to eat was an extra expense (i have 3 children and myself to feed) this costing more than the $85 deductible! So all in all.....I had to go to the laundry mat , because i didn't have a washer for 6 days (cost $35) out to eat (cost $175 for just those 5 days) ,but STILL refuses to fix it unless I pay the deductible (i'm on Social Security and can't afford to, now all my money spent on eating out and microwave food) I asked Total protect to review phone recordings of me being told there would be NO DEDUCTIBLE and they said they would, but i still will have to pay regardless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No Concern for there customers / only want to line there pockets it seems!! !

The customer service people have been very helpful. I've even called them at like 6:00 in the morning and I have no problems with them, customer service has been excellent. Very, very, very satisfied and we have had multiple claims in just a short amount of time. All of their technicians were good except one. We had a heating problem and the first person on the choice for them to call wasn't available, so they sent Wissels, which I think we had to get down to the person on the list and these people were so bad. After three times, they still could not diagnose the problem. So in a period of ten days, we had no heat for three of those days. So then finally, I called again on the fourth time and I said, "Three strikes, you're out. I want someone else."
They sent someone else, they sent Frederick Air Heating & Air Conditioning. Within ten minutes, the technician diagnosed the problem, went and got the parts, and we had heat again within three hours and we haven't had a problem since. But the first company that came out, Wissels, was absolutely horrible. In fact, the technician brought his wife along with him and she sat in my couch and played games on her phone. It was absolutely ridiculous. He was here three times in ten-day period and he couldn't figure out what the problem was. He kept saying, "Well, maybe it's just this or maybe it's that." Then he changed the thermostat and the next morning, we woke up to a fifty-degree house again. So that's when I called and said, "You need to send me someone else." We had to pay a second deductible but at that point, we didn't care.
But that Wissels, they should never use that Wissels - never ever, ever. They are just the worst. In fact, we called him 8:00 in the morning and he shows up at 6:00 at night, and we had no heat in our house. It was bad. But with HMS, I had no problem with them. They were very good, very understanding. I'd be happier if they said, "Okay. We'll give you your deductible back the second time since the first people weren't able to fix it in three tries." That, I think, would be something that maybe they could do to help us.

I've had TotalProtect home warranty for more than seven years. I think getting it was a good move for me, and it was very handy when I had to use it. The first time I needed a claim, I forgot I had the warranty; I had called Angie's List and they were quoting me over $1000 to fix my heater. While the guy was up in my attic, I remembered that I had this policy. So I told the guy I couldn't use them because I called and got a claim number while he was in the attic. When he came down and tried to tell me I needed $1000 worth of work, I said, "Darling, I can't use you."
And then the guy came that TotalProtect sent and it was just a couple of hundred dollars. So I'm really glad that I had TotalProtect because I would have been spending over $1000 if I hadn't had that insurance. They've been very responsive. On 1-14-15 I heard my a/c compressor trying to run with a/c turned off. I immediately call a local company to come out and he disconnected the compressor. This was done under "acting reasonable " to stop any further damage. I then call the warranty company and explain what and why I did this. They had me to call one of "their" companies. He checked and said the compressor was bad and needed to be replaced. After a month and a half of emails and phone calls they said it was denied before it had been worked on and modified - which it had not - only disconnected to prevent further damage. According to the person I spoke with who claim she was over all the home warranties I should have let it do the damage and not disconnected it. Which if I had I would have to pay for a complete a/c system instead of just the compressor since they will not pay for anything. It seams for certain their policy is deny-deny-deny until the customer gets tired and goes away. This is their no-customer service for a policy holder of the last 5 years. I guess that they taught me a lesson about trusting a home warranty company. You give them all your money and you get nothing in return....I advise people to watch them.

I was with another home warranty provider when I decided to move to TotalProtect. I thought if TotalProtect was being endorsed by Regions Bank, then they were probably reputable. And they certainly are! TotalProtect did the exceptional on anything you can ask for. The first claim I had took a long time to get the part but this may have been just a vendor issue and not TotalProtect's problem because TotalProtect made the referral right away. The second claim for my heat was okay and the vendor that I used last time was really wonderful.
The only thing is that I got a burner on my stove that's not heating -- it's not firing up, it won't go too high. The last vendor said TotalProtect won't let him replace it yet unless it is totally not working. It has to be completely out in order to be replaced. Right after that, I felt like calling in another client because I cannot use that burner. Aside from that experience, I'm satisfied with TotalProtect overall. In fact, I just recommended TotalProtect to a friend. She too is a single head of the household and has all of her house to take care of. I told her, "You do this. We've had TotalProtect home warranty for years, since we bought this house. Submitting claims with them using the online process is really easy. There's been a couple of times I've had to call customer service to get assistance but most of the time I've been able to do everything online. They provide me with the contact information and it's really simple. We've had some pretty good technicians that have come to our home...We've had some okay ones. The quality of work they performed is pretty good. This last one -- he really did a pretty good job with the last claim we had. The problem was that two or three times I've had to call him back to make a change or do something else.
The other time we did have a problem with them was when they came and fixed our air conditioner. The technician put the unit back together wrong. So my husband had to go in and change it because he reversed the wire to make the fan blow in the opposite direction from what it was supposed to. We've had home warranty companies before where people looked so bad when they arrive at the front door that you don't even want them to come in. We've had other companies where they arrived in marked vehicles with uniforms on and did everything great, and then just one day the company decides to shut the door. So we've had various experiences with the home warranty companies out here. That's why I go through the mortgage company or my bank for their recommendation. When the home warranty company we had before decided to get out of its agreement with AAA, the rates went way up so I said "the heck with that" and called my mortgage companies and the banks. One of them recommended TotalProtect to us.
There's only been one claim made and the experience we had is kind of mixed. The water heater went out on a Saturday and I called, and TotalProtect named the company that we were supposed to call on Monday. This was fine for me but not for my wife...She wanted to be able to wash her hair before we went to church on Sunday. So I called them back and said, "We'll pay the overtime if necessary. We gotta get the thing in." The company that we were supposed to call never called back on Monday. And so we called and they said, "Nobody's called."
Then TotalProtect found Do It Right. They never called back and it was still the weekend, and Do It Right called back and actually stopped by on Sunday. It was out in the field, no extra charge. And then I called back a couple of times to TotalProtect because of zoning issues or code changes...There was going to be some additional hook-ups stuff that needed to be done. And they wouldn't accept my wife saying yes...I had to say yes.
Then they kept saying, "24-48 hours." And I kept asking, "Why?" It turns out TotalProtect's procedure is to send the item to the plumber. The plumber just doesn't take one in stock or go get one from some place. So it was Friday and it's almost a full week without hot water. The people at Do It Right are great. Turned out we had some common interests -- all Christians. We really enjoyed having them come over to fix the heater. But they were stuck with having to have the items sent to them before they could bring it and put it in. That's what delayed it further.
My wife was so unhappy with the delay. But she was very happy to meet the people at Do it Right. If we ever have to make another claim and it's related to plumbing, we'll ask if Do It Right can be sent out again. It's just that, again, I don't understand this having to send the items to the plumber which puts the delay in before he can get out and do his work. There may be a cost-saving in all this by having a centralized buying and then providing the item. I'm sure there's a reason for this but I had never heard of it before. And then we also didn't appreciate the fact that they referred us to a company that didn't bother to call back.
So we had a mixed experience with the contractors that they sent and the delay due to their sending the item to the plumber before he can install it. But the Do It Right guys they sent out were so nice. We didn't even get charged for the disposal fee, and he didn't charge us for coming out on Sunday. We're really happy about that. The other company was not even returning our phone calls. They couldn't even get to speed when trying to call the company and they wouldn't answer the call. I hope they take them off their list.

I called him to set up an appointment but turns out they couldn't come until the following day. The wind chill was 20 below so I had to get the furnace going. I ended up having to get somebody else to go over just to get the furnace going, which was a maintenance company for the property management people that I use. They came back and told me I needed all these parts for my furnace and then when the HMS guy went over and I showed him what they told me that the furnace needed, he told me I don't need any of those. I'm glad that they told me! I didn't end up throwing parts at the furnace that it didn't need just so this other person could make money.
Then the repair went well except for two little issues. First, the contractor never contacted me to tell me what his findings were. I ended up having to call him to ask what the problem was with the furnace. Second, I didn't get a confirmation email that the work order is closed from HMS. I asked the contractor if I will get an email, and he said, "No, they don't email." If I hadn't called him, I never would've known that the work order was closed. I've never had any trouble filing a claim with TotalProtect. I called, they answered right away and then had to make arrangements. It was done differently in the beginning. Sometimes I had to call the company to set up an appointment. Other times they call and then that company would call me to set up a time. But I've been pleased, I've never had a problem. The only thing was that I didn't realize icemakers weren't covered and I called because of the icemaker one time. I was upset because they didn't say to me, "Oh, that's not covered", I said "it was the icemaker." And then the guy came out, I paid $75 and he said, "You need a new icemaker", and so He is the one that told me, "Well, your icemaker is not covered." Then I went and I looked back to all of the pamphlets and saw that icemakers weren't covered. So I paid $75 and I never got the icemaker replaced.
Their technicians have all been pretty good and their quality of work on the whole was definitely good. When we had the air conditioner replaced, there were certain issues where I had to call them back out again after they installed it because there was something to do. There was a problem with the electrical and the city inspector wouldn't sign off on it so they had to come back out. And then a short time after that I called them in and they had to send somebody out again because the air conditioner wasn't working and I had a house full of company. That took a day or two and it turned out to be something minor or something that wasn't hooked up right. But other than that, they've been good and I've recommended them to a bunch of people.

I was a first-time home buyer and TotalProtect offered me a good deal. It seemed fair and I know it will be something that I needed because I can't afford to repair everything that breaks in my house. I never had any problems when I make a claim. Everybody is always nice and courteous, knowledgeable and respectful. With my last claim, the technician was not able to fix my heater right away. It was one of the coldest days here in Virginia and I didn't have any heat. I called about the issue and the rep told me the tech will be calling me within 30 minutes but didn't.
When I called him at 5pm he said that he'd be here around 5:30 but he got here 6:30 and by that time, the stores were closed so he couldn't get me a part. I explained to him I have a baby in the house and he told me that he will have to order the part because the part he had was either too big or too small. I didn't get any heat until Tuesday morning. I wasn't satisfied with this last claim but I don't have any problem with TotalProtect.

The technician TotalProtect sent was knowledgeable and fixed everything, except for the refrigerator in which he didn't have the part he needed. So it took almost another week before they put it in. Nevertheless, the refrigerator has been working fine since then. One observation though is that TotalProtect doesn't have enough contractors and vendors that work with them. Even if they're very willing to send someone out, it's going to take like a week or two before they come out.

We decided that a home warranty would be a good thing to have because things can go bad or breakdown. Since we're on fixed income, we figured it's a lot easier to come up with $75 than a thousand dollars or more to fix something. I've called to file a claim a few times, and usually a contractor would be out here within a day or so. I've never had a problem with the reps, but I wasn't too happy with the last technician who came out. He acted like he really didn't want to be here and he didn't want to deal with us, and kept complaining about the kind of air conditioner I had. He fixed it, but I didn't like his attitude. I've been completely happy and pleased with TotalProtect, nonetheless. I've already recommended them to a couple of people.

We've always had a good experience with TotalProtect and the last one was having our furnace serviced. The only time that it wasn't good was this time it took two guys to come out. The first guy did not spend enough time to really diagnose the problem because it was working while he was there. And within a matter of about a week, it stopped working again. When the second guy came out, he was able to diagnose the furnace and replace the part and it's been going well ever since. We haven't had any problem with the service. It's been timely and I've referred TotalProtect to several different people and will continue to do so until I become dissatisfied. Even with this last incident with our furnace going out, it was during the time when it was quite cold but they had somebody out within 24 hours and that was reasonable.

TotalProtect has been my home warranty provider for about six years prior to moving to South Carolina. I renewed with them for a property we are renting because we're not in close proximity to it so I wanted a reliable company. It's been excellent. They answer claims quickly. The technicians who came to service called prior to coming over. Since they were working on the rental property, I didn't actually see them but they explained the situation, what was going on and if ever I needed pictures for insurance purposes. They were very fast in getting it back and the actual proof for the work to be done. All of them has been nothing less than professional. I'm very happy with TotalProtect and the service providers that they use.

I've only had one really bad experience which was recently, a company was called to repair my refrigerator and the person never showed up, then I had to call HMS to get an exception to have someone outside of their contractors to come in and fix the problem. I think HMS need to screen their contractors a little bit better. When you have one person, one company like that that will tell you that they're coming and they never show up, that's a problem. I also believe that same person had actually ordered parts and hadn't even come to my house to diagnose the problem.

They've had people in and replaced a part of my KitchenAid microwave as well. The technicians sent out were great and do as good as anybody could do at this kind of stuff. Everything TotalProtect has done has been really heads-up and on top of everything.

My furnace was around 23 years old. They tore it apart then cut it into pieces to get it out. They worked real fast and clean. I'm also impressed that they cleaned up as well by the time that they're done and set everything up. It was cleaner when they left than it was when they got there.

We've had HMS for a good while. I was a mortgage loan officer out in California and I did some research on the insurance policies and I heard about HMS then. I was already convinced that we will need to get HMS. They've usually been really good since. The only problem that we've had is we're in a small town of Arkansas and a lot of times there's no contractor that can get here really quickly but other than that, we don't have a complaint. They've also all been positive. Once they get here, we haven't had any problems.

Things have been quite wonderful with TotalProtect. Their response to every filed claim is very good, quick, and professional. I was very impressed. However I had one issue with the garbage disposal claim. I wasn't too pleased because they didn't replace the silver ring in the sink. They had put a brand new disposer and they left the old ring chocked even though it comes with a ring in the box. They said "Oh, that's not broken so we didn't fix that." We actually need to get another contract with them for another house that we need to get insured. I would highly recommend TotalProtect.

Sometimes it would take a couple of days when the heater was out and we’re a little bit cold but you can’t expect miracles in situations like that. I work with people all my life and I know you just don’t snap your fingers and it happens. It’s not Christmas every day in a year. So everything considered, I'm very satisfied with HMS.

I've been with TotalProtect for a long time. I think I discovered them through Bank of America who had my mortgage. It was convenient for me to pay my bills through the bank and it was being received that way with the payment, and I needed some protection for the home so I had to go with TotalProtect because it was reason enough for me to pay them the monthly amount and it was also attached to my mortgage payment at the time.
Submitting a claim with them is quick. The reps were on top of things. A lot of times when you call and you try and put a claim in, they ask you the number over and over again - just the rhetorical stuff, over and over again. But when I talk to them, they're alert. They understand and feel concerned about my equipment when it goes down and try to get the help for me as soon as possible. The technicians they sent out were very friendly and knowledgeable and the quality of work was performed to my expectations. In fact, they were so good that I had set up an appointment for them to come and see me annually. I'm satisfied.

HMS is a must-have for homeowners. It has a fairly easy claim process. You just call it in and tell them what the issue is. They ask for the model of the appliance and if there's any appliance that I want to get checked out, and pretty much put it in. What I only don't like about the process is that sometimes if I have to call myself the company that they are grouped with to come out and do the service. They don't always call back so that process can sometimes take too long. If I have a warranty, I shouldn't have to call after I call in to make sure that I can get the warranty service performed on whatever is broken in the house. The process should be the same every time I have to call in and hey should do the rest of the footwork.
Other than that the contractors that have been here have been good. One of them came from Sears and they always have good people that they send out, no issues. They inspect the house and know what they're doing and the appliance. If they can't fix it, they let you know and they're in and out. I definitely would recommend them.

The mortgage company offered TotalProtect to us. I called in a claim, told them what I needed and they gave me a phone number. I called a local number and set up the appointment. Within six hours they were here and solved the problem. I just showed them where it was and told them what the problem was and they said, "Thank you very much", fixed it and told us what was going on and what happened. I wrote them a check for the amount that wheeled on it which was less than what the deductible was because they said they didn't meet that deductible and they went. They were in and out very, very briefly and were very clean, good, professional and polite. It was outstanding!

Our realtor suggested HMS. We've been very satisfied with them. We typically get a quick response to our claims. Their people have always been helpful, gotten back to us when they said they would and followed through. Also, the work done by the technicians has always been very satisfactory. We haven't had any problem getting appliances in our home replaced. We haven't had to haggle with anybody. It’s always been an easy process. It’s just paid off for us. However, HMS raised their price about a year ago and it went up substantially at the time, so I was a little disappointed. I understand that prices go up, but it was around 33% increase so it was a big jump at one time. But other than that, HMS has been very useful for us and we have recommended them.
