On 1-14-15 I heard my a/c compressor trying to run with a/c turned off. I immediately call a local company to come out and he disconnected the compressor. This was done under "acting reasonable " to stop any further damage. I then call the warranty company and explain what and why I did this. They had me to call one of "their" companies. He checked and said the compressor was bad and needed to be replaced. After a month and a half of emails and phone calls they said it was denied before it had been worked on and modified - which it had not - only disconnected to prevent further damage. According to the person I spoke with who claim she was over all the home warranties I should have let it do the damage and not disconnected it. Which if I had I would have to pay for a complete a/c system instead of just the compressor since they will not pay for anything. It seams for certain their policy is deny-deny-deny until the customer gets tired and goes away. This is their no-customer service for a policy holder of the last 5 years. I guess that they taught me a lesson about trusting a home warranty company. You give them all your money and you get nothing in return....I advise people to watch them.

I was with another home warranty provider when I decided to move to TotalProtect. I thought if TotalProtect was being endorsed by Regions Bank, then they were probably reputable. And they certainly are! TotalProtect did the exceptional on anything you can ask for. The first claim I had took a long time to get the part but this may have been just a vendor issue and not TotalProtect's problem because TotalProtect made the referral right away. The second claim for my heat was okay and the vendor that I used last time was really wonderful.
The only thing is that I got a burner on my stove that's not heating -- it's not firing up, it won't go too high. The last vendor said TotalProtect won't let him replace it yet unless it is totally not working. It has to be completely out in order to be replaced. Right after that, I felt like calling in another client because I cannot use that burner. Aside from that experience, I'm satisfied with TotalProtect overall. In fact, I just recommended TotalProtect to a friend. She too is a single head of the household and has all of her house to take care of. I told her, "You do this. I've always had home warranty for the last 25-30 years so I don't have to worry. I pay a deductible and I'm done."

Everybody’s always been very upfront and helpful and provided good information. The last few technicians that have been here and helped me out were very informative and laid out what was going on and any options that I had regarding any service and what will be the best route to go, even if it wasn’t with them.

The last claim was okay but the time before that was not. We've had a couple of minor problems with our furnace and air conditioner. We would rather use our people but TotalProtect won't let us do that. This contractor doesn't like to work with insurance companies but my husband got it cleared with TotalProtect and cleared with the HVAC people and then when there came a time something came up, TotalProtect would not honor what they had said earlier...

We've had TotalProtect home warranty for years, since we bought this house. Submitting claims with them using the online process is really easy. There's been a couple of times I've had to call customer service to get assistance but most of the time I've been able to do everything online. They provide me with the contact information and it's really simple. We've had some pretty good technicians that have come to our home...We've had some okay ones. The quality of work they performed is pretty good. This last one -- he really did a pretty good job with the last claim we had. The problem was that two or three times I've had to call him back to make a change or do something else.
The other time we did have a problem with them was when they came and fixed our air conditioner. The technician put the unit back together wrong. So my husband had to go in and change it because he reversed the wire to make the fan blow in the opposite direction from what it was supposed to. We didn't find that out until our electric bill was sky high and we couldn't figure out why the machine was making so much noise. But most of our experience with TotalProtect has been very good.

I decided to go with HMS when it was offered even though I knew there were different groups out there since some friends of mine who have also recently bought property said they were good to go with. In the beginning, it was sometimes tedious to go through all their phone prompts just to be able to talk to somebody. Everybody who came here to address the claims have been very professional and polite - they were in and out with no problems. The plumbers who came to do the hot water tank last time even cleaned up their mess and took the bad hot water tank with them. Overall, HMS is okay and easy to deal with.

We've had home warranty companies before where people looked so bad when they arrive at the front door that you don't even want them to come in. We've had other companies where they arrived in marked vehicles with uniforms on and did everything great, and then just one day the company decides to shut the door. So we've had various experiences with the home warranty companies out here. That's why I go through the mortgage company or my bank for their recommendation. When the home warranty company we had before decided to get out of its agreement with AAA, the rates went way up so I said "the heck with that" and called my mortgage companies and the banks. One of them recommended TotalProtect to us.
There's only been one claim made and the experience we had is kind of mixed. The water heater went out on a Saturday and I called, and TotalProtect named the company that we were supposed to call on Monday. This was fine for me but not for my wife...She wanted to be able to wash her hair before we went to church on Sunday. So I called them back and said, "We'll pay the overtime if necessary. We gotta get the thing in." The company that we were supposed to call never called back on Monday. And so we called and they said, "Nobody's called."
Then TotalProtect found Do It Right. They never called back and it was still the weekend, and Do It Right called back and actually stopped by on Sunday. It was out in the field, no extra charge. And then I called back a couple of times to TotalProtect because of zoning issues or code changes...There was going to be some additional hook-ups stuff that needed to be done. And they wouldn't accept my wife saying yes...I had to say yes.
Then they kept saying, "24-48 hours." And I kept asking, "Why?" It turns out TotalProtect's procedure is to send the item to the plumber. The plumber just doesn't take one in stock or go get one from some place. So it was Friday and it's almost a full week without hot water. The people at Do It Right are great. Turned out we had some common interests -- all Christians. We really enjoyed having them come over to fix the heater. But they were stuck with having to have the items sent to them before they could bring it and put it in. That's what delayed it further.
My wife was so unhappy with the delay. But she was very happy to meet the people at Do it Right. If we ever have to make another claim and it's related to plumbing, we'll ask if Do It Right can be sent out again. It's just that, again, I don't understand this having to send the items to the plumber which puts the delay in before he can get out and do his work. There may be a cost-saving in all this by having a centralized buying and then providing the item. I'm sure there's a reason for this but I had never heard of it before. And then we also didn't appreciate the fact that they referred us to a company that didn't bother to call back.
So we had a mixed experience with the contractors that they sent and the delay due to their sending the item to the plumber before he can install it. But the Do It Right guys they sent out were so nice. We didn't even get charged for the disposal fee, and he didn't charge us for coming out on Sunday. We're really happy about that. The other company was not even returning our phone calls. They couldn't even get to speed when trying to call the company and they wouldn't answer the call. I hope they take them off their list.

The company is always on point. Three weeks ago, my thermostat broke. I called a plumber and he was very accommodating even though it was snowing that day and he had to finish other jobs. He also saw that my furnace needs cleaning so he offered to clean it the following Monday, which is covered by TotalProtect. I also encountered a problem on Sunday when I had a busted pipe above my computer. I called him again and he sent me another plumber within the hour and fixed my problem. A lot of people envy me because of TotalProtect. I may spend $400 to $500 a year but at the end of the day, one or two calls that I make pays itself. It’s more about having that protection that somebody is going to come and help me. That to me is priceless.

We enjoy very much having HMS Home Warranty as a company we can rely on. I’m 65 and don’t get around like I used to. I could still work but I have trouble crawling around under a sink. For the money we pay, it’s great to say, “Hey, here’s $100. Come fix it guys!” They either fix it or replace it and I have had no problem. The last claim was when we had some dryer problem and they put a small vent pipe in. Everybody’s great and my wife even said we need to keep HMS even if we move back to Florida.

As a realtor, I use HMS and recommend them to our buyers and sellers. I've never had a problem except for one time this winter. I filed a claim online and the problem with doing it online is that I wasn't sure if it was covered or not. It was only after I called and waited awhile that I found out that my claim was not covered. They really need to make sure they tell people whether a claim is covered rather than having a repair person come and people paying the $100 deductible. This is the only issue we've ever had with them.

I got TotalProtect for my appliances and things that needed repair around the home. I just gave it a try and see what happens. Fortunately, all of my experiences in filing claims were good. Their claims reps are knowledgeable, courteous and accurate. I was also glad the technicians sent out knew what they were doing and took care of whatever the problem was. And after they look, they could tell me if they could fix it and advise me on what to do. I had an electrician told me they had some inaccurate wiring in the house and so he prepared it for me so it was good experience. After each repair, all worked and are still working... except for one of my air condition. It had been repaired a couple of times, but there was a time it couldn't be repaired so I had to get a new one, and TotalProtect helped me get a new one.
Everything is going fine. TotalProtect helps me when I need help and keeps everything moving without a lot of hassle. A phone call away, you can't get too much better than that.

The automated feature they have on their website makes submitting the claim a lot easier. At first I was surprised by the technician that came out from the company because of how young he was. It didn’t take long though while I was talking with him that I find out he was very personable, very professional, and definitely knowledgeable on what he was doing. But I was a little bit disappointed in how much they charged for what they referred to as additional labor to match up the furnace with the existing gas work and also the electrical and the gas piping. I would have thought those would have been part of any installation. But overall I was glad that they actually covered the cost of the furnace that was replaced.

Since TotalProtect is what my mortgage company have, I decided to get them and so far I've only submitted a claim once. The tech who came out was wonderful. He's knowledgeable, courteous and explained the whole process to me.
The only thing I would suggest is that they need to fix their computer program as it is not user-friendly and is very hard to figure out. It took me a couple of days to figure it out and then when you go to submit, you don't know if it's submitted. There's no confirmation or acknowledgement that the claim has actually been submitted. My built in microwave stopped working so I call Total Protect. What a huge disappointment! The GE technician who came to my home noted peeling paint and stated it would be best to replace as if he repaired it could blow fuses in my home. I pay the $100 deductible and seconds after the charge goes through the total protect representative, ** , who was very cold, states they will not cover anything because its not a mechanical issue. I was given no other alternatives. This is the total protect whom when I signed up stated they cover everything. I cannot begin to express how disappointing this is to me as a consumer. I look at the pretty brocheure they sent to me telling me how easy it is with them when I am sure there is fine print that makes this all legal. I feel that I was taken advantage of as a consumer and I am going to tell everyone that will listen about my experience.
Dear T, I’m sorry that you are disappointment with the outcome of your claim and the interaction with our customer service associate was not positive. We strive to provide a superior level of customer service and we will include your feedback in our routine claims evaluation. I investigated your claim to ensure that the decision was made in full compliance of the terms of your warranty Agreement. While the microwave is listed as an appliance eligible for coverage under your warranty Agreement, the coverage applies to mechanical failures. I’m sorry that the outcome fell short of your expectation and that you have since cancelled your account with us. Sincerely, Stephanie

HMS Home Warranty is good. My furnace stopped working so I submitted a claim and they gave me the name of the contractor. I called him to set up an appointment but turns out they couldn't come until the following day. The wind chill was 20 below so I had to get the furnace going. I ended up having to get somebody else to go over just to get the furnace going, which was a maintenance company for the property management people that I use. They came back and told me I needed all these parts for my furnace and then when the HMS guy went over and I showed him what they told me that the furnace needed, he told me I don't need any of those. I'm glad that they told me! I didn't end up throwing parts at the furnace that it didn't need just so this other person could make money.
Then the repair went well except for two little issues. First, the contractor never contacted me to tell me what his findings were. I ended up having to call him to ask what the problem was with the furnace. Second, I didn't get a confirmation email that the work order is closed from HMS. I asked the contractor if I will get an email, and he said, "No, they don't email." If I hadn't called him, I never would've known that the work order was closed. But other than those, there were no problems with the repair. HMS saved me almost $500 from the other guy.

Sometimes I had to call the company to set up an appointment. Other times they call and then that company would call me to set up a time. But I've been pleased, I've never had a problem. The only thing was that I didn't realize icemakers weren't covered and I called because of the icemaker one time. I was upset because they didn't say to me, "Oh, that's not covered", I said "it was the icemaker." And then the guy came out, I paid $75 and he said, "You need a new icemaker", and so He is the one that told me, "Well, your icemaker is not covered." Then I went and I looked back to all of the pamphlets and saw that icemakers weren't covered. So I paid $75 and I never got the icemaker replaced.
Their technicians have all been pretty good and their quality of work on the whole was definitely good. When we had the air conditioner replaced, there were certain issues where I had to call them back out again after they installed it because there was something to do. There was a problem with the electrical and the city inspector wouldn't sign off on it so they had to come back out. And then a short time after that I called them in and they had to send somebody out again because the air conditioner wasn't working and I had a house full of company. That took a day or two and it turned out to be something minor or something that wasn't hooked up right. But other than that, they've been good and I've recommended them to a bunch of people.

Everybody is always nice and courteous, knowledgeable and respectful. With my last claim, the technician was not able to fix my heater right away. It was one of the coldest days here in Virginia and I didn't have any heat. I called about the issue and the rep told me the tech will be calling me within 30 minutes but didn't.
When I called him at 5pm he said that he'd be here around 5:30 but he got here 6:30 and by that time, the stores were closed so he couldn't get me a part. I explained to him I have a baby in the house and he told me that he will have to order the part because the part he had was either too big or too small. I didn't get any heat until Tuesday morning. They had put a brand new disposer and they left the old ring chocked even though it comes with a ring in the box. They said "Oh, that's not broken so we didn't fix that." We actually need to get another contract with them for another house that we need to get insured. I would highly recommend TotalProtect.

Every time I called them up they took care of the problem. We give the information and they come out as soon as they get somebody to come out here. Sometimes it would take a couple of days when the heater was out and we’re a little bit cold but you can’t expect miracles in situations like that. I work with people all my life and I know you just don’t snap your fingers and it happens. It’s not Christmas every day in a year. So everything considered, I'm very satisfied with HMS.

I've been with TotalProtect for a long time. I think I discovered them through Bank of America who had my mortgage. It was convenient for me to pay my bills through the bank and it was being received that way with the payment, and I needed some protection for the home so I had to go with TotalProtect because it was reason enough for me to pay them the monthly amount and it was also attached to my mortgage payment at the time.
Submitting a claim with them is quick. The reps were on top of things. A lot of times when you call and you try and put a claim in, they ask you the number over and over again - just the rhetorical stuff, over and over again. But when I talk to them, they're alert. They understand and feel concerned about my equipment when it goes down and try to get the help for me as soon as possible. The technicians they sent out were very friendly and knowledgeable and the quality of work was performed to my expectations. In fact, they were so good that I had set up an appointment for them to come and see me annually. I'm satisfied.

HMS is a must-have for homeowners. It has a fairly easy claim process. You just call it in and tell them what the issue is. They ask for the model of the appliance and if there's any appliance that I want to get checked out, and pretty much put it in. What I only don't like about the process is that sometimes if I have to call myself the company that they are grouped with to come out and do the service. They don't always call back so that process can sometimes take too long. If I have a warranty, I shouldn't have to call after I call in to make sure that I can get the warranty service performed on whatever is broken in the house. The process should be the same every time I have to call in and hey should do the rest of the footwork.
Other than that the contractors that have been here have been good. One of them came from Sears and they always have good people that they send out, no issues. They inspect the house and know what they're doing and the appliance. If they can't fix it, they let you know and they're in and out. I definitely would recommend them.

The mortgage company offered TotalProtect to us. I called in a claim, told them what I needed and they gave me a phone number. I called a local number and set up the appointment. Within six hours they were here and solved the problem. I just showed them where it was and told them what the problem was and they said, "Thank you very much", fixed it and told us what was going on and what happened. I wrote them a check for the amount that wheeled on it which was less than what the deductible was because they said they didn't meet that deductible and they went. They were in and out very, very briefly and were very clean, good, professional and polite. It was outstanding!

Our realtor suggested HMS. We've been very satisfied with them. We typically get a quick response to our claims. Their people have always been helpful, gotten back to us when they said they would and followed through. Also, the work done by the technicians has always been very satisfactory. We haven't had any problem getting appliances in our home replaced. We haven't had to haggle with anybody. It’s always been an easy process. It’s just paid off for us. However, HMS raised their price about a year ago and it went up substantially at the time, so I was a little disappointed. I understand that prices go up, but it was around 33% increase so it was a big jump at one time. But other than that, HMS has been very useful for us and we have recommended them.

The last technician that came here called and said he will be a little bit late but he was only about 10 to 15 minutes late so it was no problem, and then he came in and I said what I wanted him to do and he checked it out. I was up there with him and he told me what he was doing and so forth. I went in the house and every time he needed something, he said "I need to do this right here", and so everything went smoothly. It was pretty good. They had to come back a second time, but that was understandable and they took care of the situation right on the spot. When they finished, there was no debris or anything left around. They cleaned up everything.

I'm a realtor and I found HMS to be very good. I have tried other companies but I really feel that their follow-up is exceptional - they keep after it, make sure everything is done and that I'm covered. The only problem I had is that HMS doesn't cover faucet repair. I had a leak underneath the sink so the technician came out and found that it was the faucet that was leaking. But since it isn't covered, everything stopped. I felt it was ridiculous since he was already there and it could have been done in an hour. Plus once he started working on it, the pipe system literally fell apart because evidently the faucet had deteriorated. Now there's no water in that room unless I do something else to clear the problem and I'm finding this situation really difficult. It feels like a silly thing for the faucet not to be covered so I hope they add that in. However, I'd still recommend HMS to people.

I really didn't get to talk much with him, and he made a mess in my kitchen and I wasn't happy with that. When he came into the kitchen and did the faucet, crap squirted everywhere which I had to clean up. I'm in the real estate business so other than getting people to sign up for this, I got HMS for my own property. In my personal experience when submitting claims with my house, the first time around they were helpful. It wasn't really their fault particularly but they have certain contractors that they work with, and I have a unique system at my house. It's a boiler that actually heats the water, which in turn deals with my heating system and its several zones.
I explained this to HMS when they were going to call their contractor to make sure that their contractor worked on this kind of system because I didn't want to wait for somebody to come down to fix the thing, and then when they come down here, for them to say that they don't do this system and don't know how it works. I ended up getting somebody that called first and said they do this system, then called back HMS to say that it was out of their area. So HMS found another person who came to the house, but that was also not a system he knew how to work on. Finally, I got so tired and said, "I'm going to go ahead and get a person to do it," and I did. HMS was very generous and reimbursed me. After that, whenever I had to call for a problem for this particular system, they've called that company and it's been very efficient since then because those people know the system.

It’s not too hard to submit a claim with HMS but as far as getting them done when you need it done, that’s another issue. The people I’ve been talking to on the phone haven’t been doing what they say they’re supposed to be doing on their side. I had an issue with a furnace, and they couldn’t get anybody to fix it. I had to wait a day on that. I currently have another issue with just a water pipe. I called yesterday to file a claim and the lady who was very nice on the phone said “call back after two hours and I’m putting this on emergency status.” I called back two hours later and the other person that answered the phone said “nope, nothing’s been done on this. Nothing went to dispatch. There was no emergency put on it.” So it was just kind of upsetting that I don’t have the company again coming out until sometime today.
Every time I try to work with them on the phone and try to get something handled, it’s just “oh we can’t do that, we can’t do this.” That was not good customer service and frustrating. When you ask to speak to somebody else, they get off the phone with you for a few minutes and then come back on and say “this is what I can do.” Would be nice if I’d be able to get a manager or somebody on the phone that can do something or explain things better.

TotalProtect was heaven-sent. When I built my home down here in Alabama, I took it out through Regions Bank and they sent a TotalProtect flyer in with their literature. Regions Bank said, "Well, your house is 17 years old now. You want to have some insurance on it." I said, "Well, I’m the mechanic here. I fix everything that breaks, so let me look into it."
It has been most profitable for me and TotalProtect is a good program. I had a problem with the refrigerator and there’s a vendor that I use down here, Air Doctor, which is very, very good and they had to replace some type of a heater in there for the defroster. He came in and he fixed all that, and it didn't quite work. He came back and finished it. The gas range acted up and he fixed that too. This past month, the blower on the oven went and my wife has been complaining about the dryer not working. He came in and he fixed both of them.
The technician communicated with us extremely well, told us what the problems were and fixed them. He also ensured that there wasn’t another problem working -- that they haven't got to come back for another call. He did his work very complete. I used to manage technicians in IBM and I'd say I'd hire him in a heartbeat because he's good. It's a very good service and I think the attitude that was portrayed to the technician was to do a good job. He was comfortable working with TotalProtect, knowing that he was totally supported by them.
While they were servicing my equipment, the technician was working for another vendor putting in and fixing a heater. It was freezing with 20 degrees and so letting them fix it, they had to analyze the cost of the parts and where to find the cheapest. It was cold for three days and he said, "I can't work on it. They're not going to pay me if I do it. But the people you got, they fix the problem and take care of everything." That’s quite a statement from the technician servicing me at my home. Today, it's 72 degrees and my air conditioning is working extremely well. I want it to keep going that way. Otherwise, I call my Air Doctor after I call TotalProtect and say, "Could you send Air Doctor out to me?"
So right now this insurance is very beneficial. The work has been done professionally and I'm very happy. I can't believe TotalProtect would offer a service like this -- it's wonderful.

My furnace began making horrible noises (sounds like a train rumbling through our home when the heat kicks in) last week and prior to the noise starting we felt reduced air flow (heat) from the vents.
I called Cross Country and explained the situation. They sent a tech on 02/28/15 from Edwards Plumbing and Heating to our home who was rude and passive aggressive (asked him to please remove his shoes which he did, but then scowled - and proceeded not to talk to me).
When the tech decided to talk at the end of the visit, he said that the bearings were bad and would need to be replaced but first he would need to talk with the insurance company to see if they would cover the claim. We asked him if it was safe to use the furnace and he said that it "should be unless it overheats."
We were informed the following day that our claim was denied because the furnace was mechanically sound - that it was functioning. I asked Ebony (Cross Country supervisor) to please explain how the insurance company deemed it mechanically sound? If an appliance is making a tremendous noise and has reduced output (heat), how is that mechanically sound? Ebony told me that they won't replace bearings due to noise. What about reduced heat? She said that the tech didn't indicate that.

Although I can do it online, I’m kind of still old-fashioned and would like to talk to somebody, so I usually call personally and they’ve always been helpful. Technicians have always been great. This last experience, it was freezing cold when my furnace was acting up and I called them that night. They got me connected to the company and they called me the next day, and came right out. I know they probably get a lot of furnace calls around this time of the year, but that didn’t cause any delay in my service.

The customer service rep was really nice; walked me through everything I needed to do. Also, their technicians were very professional. They called me when they were on their way so I didn't have to sit there and wait for hours and when they got here, they didn't drag off the work. They say HMS Home Warranty is supposed to be pretty good so I went with the experts. There was one situation though where they didn't tell me or explain things to me until the technician came out and said, "They should have asked you: Was it inside the home or outside the home?" Because he said it would save him a trip and I wouldn't have to pay $50 for him just to tell me the problem was inside as opposed to outside, because if it was outside, they said they weren't responsible for it. They never asked that question. Everything else has been fine other than that. All the technicians that have been out so far have been actually great. I would say it was a very good job. I felt it was completed properly.

I've had HMS Home Warranty since I bought my house in '96. The owner that sold us the house paid for the first year, and we've just been renewing it every year. The last claim I've submitted was faster than ever. I called and talked to the courteous claims lady rep, and she filled out all the forms to make the claim. Three days later they had a technician from Sears out here who quickly fixed the problem - he was a nice guy who knew what he was doing. I feel like the repair was done well and that it will last. I have a recirculating pump on the water heater and they installed against the drywall and the whole house vibrates when it's running. I'm not too happy with the way it was installed. I'm not sure that it was correct. In other words, there's no water in it until there is a back flow, a back flush, but they installed mine hanging down so it stands to reason it's already filled up with water as far as I can see. It looks jerry-rigged to me. Also, I got charged for an expansion tank and I'm checking with the Massachusetts and southern other states that require an expansion tank, they show it pointing up. They set it outside and called a friend of theirs who specialize in selling water tanks.
I called the plumber at Sin City, the receptionist was on home leave, we missed it. I got to think if they missed me, they must have missed everybody else. On top of that, they're charging me $6 to haul the water tank away, which I assumed they would but no so I'm working on it right now. I'm not sure whether I'm going to go to the state inspector. I was recommended. It's been over a month now and I think $140 for an inspection from the City. I called the City yesterday, they have no word on it but they promised me that they would have an inspector out here shortly so I'm going to give them another week before calling the inspector again. According to the City, they should've applied for a permit when they put the water heater in and they didn't. It has usually been very good until this moment. I won't let them come in again, that's for sure.

When I said, "It's not working. It never was resolved regarding this issue," HMS took my feedback and gave me someone else. We've been very happy with the quality of the work that was performed. Everything has been good and fine so I would certainly recommend HMS, especially if you have older appliances or things that need repair. We’re going to re-up it ourselves to another eight months. That’s how much we liked it. My wife likes it too which is even incredible! It’s been great. In fact I’ve had the contractor I hired to fix the ceiling come back and paint part of my house too just on my own.
I’ve had no problem at all with them. Every time we submit a claim, they appear right on time. The people they send out were very courteous too. Technicians are responsive, timely, courteous, and professional. Any work I haven't had to do I would just call them to return and/or to redo the job. If the job is done right the first time, they explain to you the issue once it is identified. They take the problematic item apart, brief you on what the problems are, and tell you what it would take to fix it. It was a week or a week and a half. The part came in, he changed the part and left. Within 10-15 minutes, the stove was doing the same thing it was doing before. So I called back and then they sent somebody, then they called GE and GE couldn't come back for another week and I said "I've already been out without my stove for two weeks now and that will be like a whole month."
So they sent out somebody else from another company and he came out. He looked at the stove and he says "Well, it's not what the first guy says. It's this," and it was just an element that he could replace right then. He had to order the right part because he didn't have it, but that only took a day or two and he had me up and running in four days from the time he came and got it. So I was very happy with the second guy, but I was not happy with the first one. TotalProtect was really good to come right back and help and send me somebody else out that could help, which was nice. It's just the first guy that I was not happy with.

Our house is 135 years old so it's got some other problems with it but the HMS has taken care of it so far. I've submitted three claims so far. One time they didn't think that it fell into the realm of what was being covered, and I said it's part of the heating system. They finally said that they'll have a contractor call us from a company that's in our area. The contractor came out and I had to pay him $100 deductible and they took care of it. And this happened on a couple of occasions.
Two out of the three claims we submitted were good. One of the claims, they took out a zone valve in my heating system so it's broken and if we replaced it, it's gonna be timed down and it's cold out that time. So I told them to circumvent it or go around it. They took it out and now my heating in that section of the house is screwed up. They shouldn't have done that and should have just replaced it. Partially, it was my fault but some people said these are particularly touchy and if they're not versed in them, they shouldn't be screwing around with them. I don't want to take the time to go through qualifying them and ask if they have been versed in the different types of zone heating that's available, and the aquastat measurements for your thermostat, or figuring it so that it goes on right and goes off. But overall, they've lived up to what I was told. With any warranty system, there's always bottom lines that are hard to reach.

They're courteous and processes the claim pretty quickly. I’m a pretty satisfied customer. I have no issues with them. The technicians know what they're doing and get the job done. With everything that's been fixed so far everything is still working.

We had HMS for a year written into the contract when we bought our home and it's been great so far. When we moved in we had several different things that we had to get fixed within the first month. They were breaking one after another so we've used it three times now. I like filing the claims online because I think it makes it faster and was more streamlined compared to doing it over the phone. Their claims representatives are always informative and get back to us in a timely manner, which is good.
Every contractor that's been sent out here has been great. However one time, I had my dryer fixed and it took about a week to get somebody out here. And it was in the middle of the winter, with a lot of kids in the house. We don't have a laundromat nearby so it was a little crazy that I was already thinking about buying a dryer because it's taking so long. But the work's been high quality and the technicians were efficient and courteous so I couldn't ask for a better quality of people.

I've used TotalProtect three times; the first time I have to admit, I wasn't satisfied with their work. This is because the technician said he will order a part so I waited a lot, until when I called, he said I was supposed to order it - it was all a mess. But right now I'm very satisfied with my experience with their service enough for me to still recommend them to people.

Our real estate agent encouraged us to have HMS Home Warranty and it made sense. I was able to use it for a couple of claims. One was our stove and one was our hot water heater. With the hot water heater, everything went really well. They came out, checked the hot water heaters and they replaced it. The company that did it was good and everything went very well. The plumber who did our water heater was great. I'm very happy. As for the stove, it works fine now but the first two people either didn't show up, didn't call or they had showed up but didn't know what they were doing. My wife called back and finally got Sears to come out. They saw the problem immediately. It was just a simple element and they were able to repair it. I'm glad we have it and it worked out very well once we had the right people doing the work. Our experience with HMS was excellent.

Claims submission at TotalProtect is very easy as it will only take three minutes tops. I only talked with one guy once and called to see if there was anything else I needed to do. He checked and told me I was good. Very easy process. I never met the technician and since the unit he was repairing was outside of the house, I didn't need to be there. I left him the deposit check and he got it. I didn't have to take any time off work and I really like that.

TotalProtect has been great. They've done what they're supposed to do. The problem is finding people where I live to work on things that are under their contract - like garage door, openers and stuff. I had a bad experience with that but it eventually got taken care of and it was no fault of your company. But then they leave the option, if they can’t find nobody, it’s open to me to find somebody local and I’ve always have, and they pay them. It's just finding someone local to do it.

It's been easy to file a claim with HMS. I've talked to their representative over the phone once or twice and they were knowledgeable and friendly, and it was relatively painless. The technicians they sent out were good. They were courteous, explained thoroughly and cleaned up after themselves. There was one that I wasn't super excited with the results I got. It was for the plumbing but other than that, they all fixed what they said they were going to fix.
The only thing I would complain about was when my heat went out last year when it was really cold and it took a long time to get it fixed. It's no fault of the person fixing it, but they didn't just replace the unit. They thought "Well, it could be this so let's try that. It could be this, let's try that." And so I ended up without heat for about a week. That was not really good. Luckily, I had gas logs and was able to use that. Fortunately it is fixed now. HMS provided the service that it was meant to provide and it's a relatively easy way.

Total Protect did what they said they would do. The plumber changed out the hot water heater and everything seems to have gone well except that it doesn’t seem to hold 50 gallons because it doesn’t fill up the bathtub before it goes full. Other than that, it was a very satisfying overall experience.

I had three claims in two months: one minor, two major. TotalProtect responded to my claims promptly, sending workmen to assess the problems. Once the assessment was submitted I was informed of what would be covered and the work began immediately. TotalProtect replaced the entire airduct work in my 2000 sq ft home. Then I discovered a gas leak over a holiday weekend, 30 degree nights. It took a little longer, but the job got done. I am a happy camper!

HMS Home Warranty has a reasonable cost so I went with them. Everything went great and I had no problem. They got a technician out here right away and replaced the furnace. The quality of the work is real good. Their people were professional and expedited everything. They got it all taken care of and did a great job.

TotalProtect was good once we got on the same sheet. I have a home and things do fail, and they were recommended by the mortgage company. Once I got them on the understanding that my hot water heater is not working and I can't take a lot of time for them to research when the plumber (who is, by the way, on their list of approved plumbers) says he can provide something, the cycle time to get this done went from seven to ten business days to a day and a half. Which is good because...have you ever tried to take a cold shower or cold bath? It's not fun, right? So finally when we got on the same sheet in understanding the urgency, it got elevated to a faster pace which is what has to happen.
I understand the hierarchy...I understand the paperwork. But when people are down and out, they can't wait that many days for solutions. They are there to react, but are sometimes slow to react...meaning, they are there for me to call, but the response time has got to be improved. I live in a house that was built in 1988 and there are some parts that have been replaced and some not, so TotalProtect may hear from me again at some point. The technician who came to service our water heater was great though.

We had an issue with our washing machine and the person that I spoke to, the claims agent, was unaware of the fact that there’s only a couple of companies that are able to fix them. It was a little bit upsetting because we thought they were gonna be there on a Wednesday and they didn’t show up for a couple of days afterwards because the company they had couldn’t repair our type of washing machine. Anyway the technician that finally came to fix our washer was absolutely great, knowledgeable, and took care of it without a problem.

When I had some problems with getting the problem solved on my heating unit and whatnot, I called the TotalProtect people back and they were very, very helpful in getting the problem resolved. The representative was very knowledgeable, helpful and knew who to get in contact with. Some of the technicians were outstanding and the last technician was particularly great. I like them enough that I signed an agreement, an annual inspection for them to come out and do the maintenance on my air conditioning and heating unit. Two of the technicians were friendly, they were customer-oriented and they encouraged me to get the maintenance agreement through the company.
But when I filed a claim for my heater, my problem wasn't solved until the third technician came out. It took almost two months to get the heat established again in my house. The first technician came in and spent some time here and thought the problem was analyzed correctly. Somehow the model and serial numbers were transposed, so it took a week or so. I had to call them back to know what was going on. Another technician came out and replaced the part that the first technician said was defective but that wasn't the problem. Then the third technician came out, analyzed the problem, knew what the part was that had to be replaced, replaced it, and the problem was resolved.
