Because we live in a rural area, we have a very hard time finding repair companies who will come to us and will honor Total Protect's warranty. If you do not live in a large metropolitan area, you may want to reconsider using this company.

Overall our claim submission to HMS Home Warranty went well. We had problems with our hot water heater and they helped us take care of it. The representative was very helpful. I'm a first time homeowner and she told me what was going to happen. I also got an email right away. The technician came out, went here, and it worked out just fine as well. They did a good job.

We have had nothing but a horrible experience with HMS since our first claim filed in August 2014. Now - almost a year later - we are out $300 and the problem was never even attempted to be fixed. As a result of the lack of response on our claim - even with MULTIPLE follow-up calls/emails demanding someone DO SOMETHING - we ended up having an electrical fire and only by the grace of God are our 4 children, ourselves and our home OK.
The problem is still unresolved and we are looking at a huge cost of repairing the problem that HMS NEVER GOT FIXED. Their customer service gave us the run-around for the past 4 months until our warranty expired and THEN called to say "oh, sorry, we can't help you because your warranty expired and you didn't extend it." Our claim was filed LONG before the warranty expired, yet they did NOTHING until it did expire - and then did nothing but say sorry. Letter to the CEO heading out today.

When I was first told about HMS, it sounded like such a great thing, but now I wish I didn't buy it. It's not the customer service I'm dissatisfied about. It's just that when I bought the warranty, I was told they'd cover a lot of major appliances like heaters and AC. But now when my AC is not working, because there's a leak on the coil or something, I get told that this could've happened the past month, that it's pre-existing so it's not covered. I just wish that somebody would've told me that the problem had have started when the policy started. They're just using different words to say its just not covered and there's nothing that they can do about it. There's no point feeling bad over it because it's not going to change anything.

I first heard about HMS Home Warranty through my realtor about 2 years ago. To talk to a representative to submit a claim was extremely long and in the beginning it seemed like everyone said, "Give them 2 hours and if they don't call you back within 2 hours, give us a call back." I had to do that several times which was very frustrating. And then all of a sudden, I lucked out and got through a their rep who was extremely nice. She was a hundred percent excellent. I was going to cancel HMS because it was way too much the whole time but her service was so exceptional. She's good and really took care of me. When I called back, she always answered. And if she did not answer, she'd call me back in a very timely manner. The technicians sent were fine and all of the times that I had someone, I've never had a problem. The quality of their work was good.

AC unit was not cooling so I submitted a claim to have one of their A/C contract company (A's AC & Heating) come to my house to see what was going on. A's did their little write up, which was in favor of Total Protect without really checking the outside unit. All A's recommended was maintenance work such as: cond/evap cleaning & refrigerant. A's then stated to Total Protect that the upstairs unit was installed improperly and no where on the invoice does is states this; lies. I had two independent A/C companies come to my house for a second opinion and neither of them said that the unit upstairs was faultily installed. I spent countless times on the phone with Total Protect over a period of 2 months; which included long hold time and very poor reply back from the many voice messages I left. Overall I had to replace both the outside and inside units. I would not recommend anybody to this poorly run company.

On May 30, 2015, I discovered my A/C unit was not working. No problem, I have paid premiums to Systems Protect for years and my Carrier air conditioning unit is covered. I called Systems Protect claims department and submitted my claim on Monday, June 1st. A technician came out and diagnosed the problem as a seized compressor. My plan requires a $60 deductible which I paid to the technician. A few days later I was called by Systems Protect asking me if I would authorize an additional $395 to handle disposal of the Freon and other uncovered charges. I said I would, "but PLEASE hurry, because we can't sleep in the heat." My wife and I have to take long drives to escape the temperatures in our home. Tomorrow will be 96 degrees and by Sunday it will be 99.
After many days and many calls, which have routinely required me being placed on hold for up to 45 minutes before reaching an agent, I finally was assured that my call would be escalated to a "manager." Right! Finally, on June 15th a manager called to say that unfortunately Carrier no longer stocks this particular 2-stage compressor. Carrier would have to manufacture the replacement compressor which would take between 15 and 17 days. She also told me without my asking that "No, it could not be shipped overnight, because they always arrive damaged when shipped overnight!!" Honest, that is exactly what I was told. When I asked why they wouldn't replace the whole unit with one that is currently available, she said she would have to contact purchasing. She promised to call me back the following day. NOT!
After sweltering in unrelenting heat for 19 days now. I can't get them to even return my calls. My wife and I are not young. We are trapped by the notion that we have a warranty to cover some of the expense. I would not recommend this company for home warranty service of any kind. Buyer beware! The agents you call are well trained. They are very sympathetic. They promise they will escalate the calls. They apologize profusely and repeatedly every time I call and reexplain our predicament, but nothing has been done to solve the problem. Good grief.

The last home that I owned had another warranty and I was with them for about 13 years. They would take care of the minor stuff but one time, I had some duct work underneath the house and it had rested a hole, I was losing heat and air. The guy they sent from an attic company said the whole duct work underneath the house should be replaced. Another guy was sent to give a second opinion and he said, “Well, we can't cover that.” So a family member suggested HMS Home Warranty and I've been impressed.
Claim process with HMS Home Warranty is real quick. You tell what appliance or what you needed done and they recommend the people that do the job. Claims representatives were professional and technicians were good. One tech came here, fixed my dryer, reset my washing machine because it wasn't rinsing anything out and he set it right. He was very courteous that I even called his boss and told him the young man was a good technician. I had recommended HMS to about four people who have purchased homes in the last month or so. We've been very happy with HMS.

We’ve had TotalProtect ever since we bought our house. The technician came out and fixed the dryer. There was something going on with the latch so that it wouldn't let the dryer turn on. Now it's good. I would recommend TotalProtect. However, the other day when I tried to call them to give them a new credit card number, I was on hold for 20 minutes. I hung up, called back, and I was on the phone for over 30 minutes the second time and still didn't get through to the billing department. And that was on Friday the 19th. But otherwise, I've always had good service.

We took ownership of the house last month, the sellers had an HMS Warranty. We had a leaky kitchen sink that happened after the home inspection and before we took ownership, so we filed a claim. Took the day off work to have someone from MAJESTIC ENTERPRISES, LP come in, fumble around for an hour or so, tell us it's a pre-existing condition, take our deductible and leave without fixing a thing. Three days later I get a call from the HMS con artists telling me it's not covered, so I am out of my time and money. By their logic everything would be a pre-existing condition, so what's the point of having this worthless warranty? Needless to say we hit Angie's List and found another plumber, which we should have done to begin with. I would stay away from these people at any cost.

My HMS experience wasn't bad but the only thing is I got put on hold for 10 or 15 minutes - that happened to me twice. Once I talked to the agent though, she started the process. It wasn't too bad too but I didn't hear from the plumbing company like I was supposed to, so I had to call back. The agent then called the plumbing company and got them on the book. The technician that came did a great job - wonderful quality - he wanted to make sure everything was done right.

Claim submission with them is sometimes good, sometimes bad. When you call them, they ask for plenty of information which you have to repeat when you get a claims rep on the phone. Even if you recommend someone that you know will work, they don't give that to you, they'll just give you some other person. In the end, you still end up going right back to the same person that you've stated the first time. But I think the quality of work has been wonderful in general. The only trouble that I had was with A1 Plumbing - they were rude and didn't follow through. But other than that, I've recommended them. I've told a lot of people about TotalProtect's services.

TotalProtect has been great so far. We've had it for a few years now from the other house we currently own. Submitting a claim is easy - I call or get on the computer but usually I call and let them know what's going on. They normally have somebody here within a couple of days but the last experience that I've had - they had to repair my air conditioner - it took about a week to get fixed and I was miserable. The technician was good to go and he did great - he knew exactly whats wrong, it was a circuit board. It's just that the circuit board was fried so they needed to order the part that went out and then they were so busy in that time of the year. This experience notwithstanding, I recommend TotalProtect all the time.

I wanted to share my experience with Total Protect (TP) to forewarn others thinking of signing up with this Home Warranty Company. I signed up with Total Protect on 18 May 2015. I asked about their plan that included maintenance checks of our home systems. I was told they no longer offer those plans because their new plans just simply cover everything regardless of age or problem. I signed up and after waiting their 10 day grace period, I called them on 29 May to request service on our AC system. The AC was working, but it was not cooling the house, although I had the system serviced in March by United Air Temp and was told the system was working when they finished. Total Protect sent out Atlas AC on 1 June to check our AC and they determined the system needed to be replaced. I called Total Protect multiple times over the next week and was told they were researching the issue and someone would get back with me soon. I then called on 8 June and used their call back service to have an agent call me when one was available. After 3 hours I called them back again and this time I waited until I spoke to an agent. Again I was told they were still working on the issue. Later that evening I was finally called back and informed they had determined my AC issue was a pre-existing problem and therefore they would not cover it. However, they had no problem accepting my monthly membership payment and they were quick to accept my $100 service fee for sending out Atlas AC. When I signed up, I was not informed about a Pre-existing clause. I was simply told that once my policy went into effect that I was covered for any issue and if I ever have a problem TP would either fix it or replace it. I felt they should have advised my about their Pre-existing clause stated in the fine print of the multi-page contract, although I had no way of knowing my issue was considered Pre-existing. Their customer service was terrible in that it took them over a week to finally inform me they would not correct my AC issue and I had to call them to finally have them tell me they would not cover my AC. It took 7 days for Total Protect to finally call me with a status update. So I leave it to your conclusion; if this sounds like the type of company you want to do business with and if this is the way you want to be treated by a company, then by all means Total Regret - I mean Total Protect is the company for you.

Every time I use TotalProtect, my stuff got fixed. They were always very good. I had absolutely no problem with them. They've been here three times. It's been the same great company each time. They were always very thorough. The only reason I wouldn’t recommend them is for the simple fact that they close at 5 o’clock. I'm in the West Coast. Well, 2 o’clock my time.
And if something happened at my house during the middle of winter and my heater went out at 2 o' clock, they would be closed and they couldn't get approval to come to my house until the next day. I've never been in that situation but the last time my technician came, it was a little after 2 o' clock and he was in his truck trying to get a hold of TotalProtect to let him know that the job was finished. And he called his boss and he says, "You aren't going to get hold of them because they close at 5 o' clock back East." That's one of the downfalls of TotalProtect. It's just some of their subcontractors that I've dealt with over the last couple of claims have been really hard. Recently, we've had two really bad experiences. One guy came out to look at our refrigerator and said he fixed it, but he wound up breaking it more. I had to go out and buy a new refrigerator about a week after he just finished on what he did. For the other experience we called for an appointment for our washing machine. The guy called one time, came right out when he said we needed a part, and we never heard from him again. I called HMS Warranty and I wanted somebody to come out here just before I hired another company. They sent me a $100.00 back. Well, that’s great but it still cost me $150.00. This next guy wired them and replaced a part and I paid him $250.00 then he left.
It wasn't too long ago that I also had a problem with the hot water heater. The guy they sent walked in here, took one look and went outside. He got two of those replacement burning units. We got HMS Home Warranty with the house that we bought. Our claim went really well. When we first moved in, we had an issue with the Jacuzzi tub leak and a couple of other leaks. We called HMS and initially I was a little concerned because I know nothing about the company. I was wondering if they're in the area but in the end we were happy with the plumber that they sent. The only negative thing is that the guy sat out in the truck for 31 minutes waiting on hold, waiting before he could do anything (but that may be normal). Nevertheless he got the job done while I was away and I the quality of work is good.

The technicians come from Sears and are usually very good and I never had any problems with them. The last one was especially nice because we thought we had to fix something in the garage door but when he looked, he found out that the reason it's not working is because we never had the ability for it to go down and come up until it hits something.

I purchased a home warranty with Total Protect in July 2014. I called for my first service request in May 2015. My air conditioner stopped working. I was assigned a claim number and given contact information for the air conditioner service provider (Barstow and Sons). I had to call both Barstow and Sons and Total Protect for 3 days before I was given a service date. The technician came out and pronounced my unit unfixable and in need of replacement. I have been calling Total Protect and Barstow and Sons for the last 3 weeks and getting nothing but the run-around. Total Protect says they don't have any paperwork from Barstow and Sons. Calls to Barstow and Sons repeatedly point me to a person who is never available to speak with me and fails to return my calls. Then I came home yesterday to find a contract renewal paperwork with Total Protect in the mail. I am so very dissatisfied with this company and their service provider.

I'm still happy with it, but the problem is that some of the things might need to be replaced yet they did not do anything with it. Now the technician has to come and repair the same thing. (The technician still has not been able to repair my cooking range after three visits.) I think for the $40 just to make sure that if something goes wrong, they should replace it instead. We filed a claim a month ago and it is still in the process of being resolved for our AC unit. We contacted HMS too many times to count to get updates on the process of our claim. In the beginning things moved along quickly and we were happy, and then HMS had to order a part for the AC. If it hadn't been for our tech who warned us we might have to call in to HMS and give a verbal agreement, we would have never known what the hold-up was. They never called and followed up with us or our tenants. We called on a Monday to give our verbal consent to order the part.
We followed up on Thursday after we hadn't heard anything, and were told we never gave a verbal consent so the part was never ordered because of the out of pocket repairs. The part was on hold in purchasing for a week before HMS contacted the warehouse/dealer to see if a part was available. Our tech called and told HMS they had ordered the wrong part, and to cancel the order and reorder the part that was needed for our unit. HMS still sent the original part, and then told our tech when he called a second time about the part that he needed to return it and then they would order a second part. How hard is it to order the right part the first time?!
During this whole ordeal we requested to speak to managers, none of whom called us back. After sending several upset emails to their claims department requesting some kind of update, as their reps just kept telling us the claim was in progress, we were directed to a Claim Support rep who called us once and then never returned our phone calls after that. The most infuriating part of this whole situation was the one conversation we did get to have with a manager. The manager put me on speakerphone and had his co-workers laughing at our conversation. He even told me that I needed to be the responsible homeowner and be prepared for my AC to break. Isn't this why I have a contract with HMS? I was only taken off speakerphone when I threatened to pull my contract with them. This isn't the first incident we've had with HMS, but it is the most severe. We are not happy with our contract and will not be renewing.

The people that TotalProtect sent out here were like nothing less than a joke. The first tech that came out here was A&E. He had to call the Maytag technicians because he wasn't familiar with what he was doing obviously. And they told him what he needed to do so he came up with a code on my washing machine and the code basically said that transmission is getting ready to go and the clutch is definitely gone. Basically that's what it ended up. So he orders a clutch for my washing machine. He says it will be here on such and such date and then he leaves. Then, a different tech came out the second time. He looks at it after almost two hours of trying to put this clutch in and me having to help him. He kept trying to turn the bearing clockwise to line it up on the shaft. He didn't realize that the same would spin counterclockwise.
He then goes out to the van, gets his laptop, comes in the house, then says, "They ordered the wrong clutch, that's why it won't fit. So I got the right one. I'm ordering, it's coming in. You'll have it this coming Thursday and then we'll come back and we'll put it in." I said "Fine." Then he left. Thursday, clutch shows up. I looked at it, I compared the numbers on the clutch, they're identical! And so with that, a third technician shows up. He takes the whole tub out. He was very good and precise in what he was doing. He wanted to find out why it was that this wasn't fitting into the bottom of the tub to receive the male end, which would have been the female end on the washing tub. But yet, it clearly stated in the instructions "if your model doesn't accept the male end of this, take the donut off of it and then install it (this is what I'm telling the second technician to do to start with.)"
So the third technician puts it in and tells me, "You're not gonna like what you'll hear." I said, "What?" He said, "Well you see this ring all around the inside? That's an indication that your bearings are shot in this tub and along with the bearings, the transmission is on its way out as well. You need a new transmission, new bearings, blah blah blah. Comes up to almost $1300. They called TotalProtect, TotalProtect is going to deny because they only take it so far and then after they get to the bearings, they stop. Now, that’s BS in my opinion because they advertise, “If we can’t fix it, we’ll replace it.” So I called them and I was so irate and upset over this matter that the lady I spoke to said she would get a supervisor or floor manager return my call and then we’d go from there and we would discuss it. I thanked her and we hung up the phone.
TotalProtect claims this is fixed. However when I can’t hear my TV in the living room because my washing machine’s bearings are shot, the transmission is going out on it, and then they say that’s fixed, I have a problem with that. To give credit to them, they have tried to reach me, but at this point in time and at this stage in my life and at my age and my health, I don’t want to deal with it. It’s just not worth it. So today I called my bank and I cancelled my debit payment, they're being pulled out. I'm done and will never get anymore insurance like this again because it basically is a rip-off.

Submitting claims with TotalProtect is very easy to do. But every time we get into a claim, we have to go through a bunch of hoops or find the people for them. The big deal is that it takes such a long time to get through a claim because we don't have the vendors in our area. I guess in more populated areas than where we are, they automatically have vendors that already exist. In addition to that, it would be nice if they had an electronic way to reimburse instead of waiting for 4-8 weeks for our check. We recently submitted a claim for our hot water heater. It went bad and we got a replacement so that went very well but we had to find our own guy and pay the whole thing and then get reimbursed but the reimbursement time was kind of long.
But overall I like the program. I would recommend TotalProtect. All the technicians they sent out have been good (except for the Sears guy with the dryer repair.) I just wish those couple of things were more improved.

I'm perfectly happy with that part of it. The technician that came to service my appliance was confident. He got through when he said he would and did what he said he would. No complaints about him.
My only complaint about the whole operation is the delay between their assigning someone to fix it and the technicians getting here to fix it. But that's probably more the contractor's problem than theirs. For example, if I had a problem with a hot water heater, say, if it was leaking, I realize that calling on a Thursday or Friday makes it hard to do anything very fast. It takes them three or four days to get here. If it wasn't fixed immediately, so then we would have lost a little water but we wouldn't have run out of hot water. But if it were something serious, say, a furnace in the winter, I really shouldn't have to wait until Tuesday. We'd have frozen to death waiting for them. But as far as their product is concerned, I'm very happy with it.

I am in the process of working with HMS on a claim. I am very dissatisfied with the whole process. They sent out a guy who arrived in a plain white van, made me give him a check for $100.00 (my deductible) and not fill in the Paid To line. This is after he said he needed to order a condenser coil and would get back with me. After 12 days I received a call from HMS saying they would pay for the coil, but there were other costs that would not be covered by warranty. They want another $385.00 to complete the repair. That was after I was told I would never have to pay more than my deductible for any single repair.
So in essence I am being asked to pay almost $500.00 to repair the AC, which is most likely in the neighborhood of what I would have had to pay without the so-called warranty. It seems to me the repair guy got together with HMS to decide what they could charge (outside the warranty) and that is the bill I received. They also gave me the option to receive a credit towards another company doing the job-which is the way I am leaning. In short, if it sounds too good to be true (like only having to pay $100.00 for any repair) then it likely is. Don't waste your money with HMS!!!

Their claims representatives have always been good and helpful. The technicians that came to service our appliance have always been qualified. They come out within a couple of days when I call. They seem to always know their business and I've never had any problems with one at all. In fact, at one time, I had a garage door break a spring and the tech and his son came out on a holiday and fixed it. They always give good service.
The last time I called, they had a hard time lining up somebody for me and getting somebody to come out here in a short period of time because they were back there for something. The first rep I talked to said they couldn't get anybody sent out for a week. I said, "Oh my gosh!" When I called again, one of the girls said, "We'll try to find you someone a little sooner than a week." And so they did. They're good at what they do. The only problem I had one time was when I had a plumbing repair that needed to be done, and I didn't realize that my contract didn't carry the sewer line, so that's the only time I had a claim turned down.

The individuals who came out were very helpful, honest and forthcoming and very knowledgeable. The one thing that was somewhat of a negative is about my split unit. I have two systems: an air conditioning system on the main level and basement and a heat pump on the upstairs level. The company that came out basically told me that I should have filed two tickets for service, for maintenance, with them because their contract with TotalProtect was only to provide maintenance and service to one unit. So having a split-level system, meaning that I should have essentially asked for two separate service calls, or a service call that was doubled up basically for them. I didn't argue with the guy but I told them that I don't necessarily agree with that and how that worked because my bigger concern is what happens if I have a failure on one. As a whole however, it was a positive experience.

We have recently bought a house as of Sept 2014 and requested that the previous owner get a warranty for the first year we live there as anyone would expect. This summer our air conditioner stopped working so we called to make a claim and they sent someone out from a company of their choice. This particular was called A&A AC. The representative came out and spent 5 minutes looking at the outside unit and told me it was physical damage and would not be covered by the warranty company.
After that we called a union worker on our own to come out and make a full diagnosis. This member took 2 hours to figure out the problem and stated that there was nothing wrong with the physical unit. After I have called HMS about this several times they continue to tell me they will call me back and never follow through. I have sent an email to them informing them of the health hazard this has caused for my particular situation dealing with a high risk pregnancy and still nothing. We are continuing to hassle them to follow through with the contract that they signed and it has been a full time job to get them to do theirs.

I had a problem with the water heater, then they sent a guy within 24 hours to do the repair. When I first had to call, they contacted the tech but they couldn't get out until like 3 or 4 days. I called them back and said they should have changed it out for about 3 or 4 days because I'm without hot water. A young lady called the contractor and they had someone out the very next morning. And then the next time that I had an issue with the bathtub heating, they had the same company come out and fixed the problem.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! In April 2015, I was supposed to get the first month of the warranty for free, but TotalProtect took the monthly fee from my account anyway. I had to call my bank and place a stop-payment on the transaction. The bank gave me my money back and got reimbursed from TotalProtect. When I filed my first claim on May 14, 2015 to have my air conditining unit repaired, the technician calling himself ** from the vendor company A to Z Heating & Air in Auburn, GA arrived and demanded payment of my $75 deductible prior to doing any type of work. I refused and called TotalProtect customer service to verify this policy, which the technician (**, whose actual name is **) claimed he "had to do or he would get in trouble." He then lied to a representative named **, claiming I did not want to pay the deductible. I spoke with ** and let her know in front of ** that I had no problem paying the $75 deductible, but this technician needed to do some work before demanding payment. The customer service agent ** agreed with me and told ** the technician that he at least had to do a diagnostic on the air conditioning unit before demanding payment. This is when ** got angry because he was told to do work before demanding payment and proceeded to write an invoice stating that my unit had a pre-existing condition. When I paid the $75 deductible and asked for feed back regarding the repair, the technician said that "TotalProtect would call with the details." I called TotalProtect and spoke with a very rude and effeminate senior manager named **. ** claimed he would follow up with the vendor, but I had to provide th vendor's phone number. ** later called and left a sniveling, cowardly, voice mail, claiming that his company would not repair my air conditioning unit. ** is a very poor business person, because the company lost my $600 warranty simply to cheat me out of a $75 deductible and a repair that they are responsible for. ** proved tone very arrogant and lacked common sense, siding with the vendor before gathering all of the facts. He really could care less about the company's clients and should be terminated because there is no telling how many other customers have had horrible experiences with this person. UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE CHEATED OUT OF YOUR HARD-EARNED MONEY AND YOU WANT TO BE TREATED RUDELY, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! !

I have been a total protect customer for at least 3 years, updating my policy in 2013 for further coverage and they have always been fairly quick in resolving my problem before.
A littel over two months ago I filed a claim on a two year old washing machine (Samsung) cost a $1000.00.
It took several days to get a tech out to my house, before I always had service the next day if not the same day. It was discovered that a little plastic rectangular box with a plastic ball in it which regulated the soap dish and Clorox and more was bad. Well through a series of incorrect parts and so forth it was discovered that Samsung no longer makes this model and sold the part manufacturing to a third party which does not make the part. It took me over two months to find this out with only me calling Total Protect to find out the status. I only received one call from them during this whole time. Then what they offered in return was not acceptable at all or even close to what I had on hand. No they don't have to match color or brand, however they do have to match primary functions and what they offered was way short, though the load capacity was higher. I was then offered $725.00 towards a new washer. Well, by now it had been over two months and I was not happy so I declined, said I would see a lawyer. I did, yes there is a federal law that protects you in this case and says you can recover attorney fees but there is no guarantee that you will be awarded attorney fees. I spent well over $200.00 in laundry costs, plus 3 damaged shirts and four pair of jeans. They retainer fee is $5000.00.Total protect, when I called this month, hadn't even written the offer down in their notes. Only that I had declined the offer. So now I am waiting for a call back. If it is a large claim, make sure you know before hand what you are supposed to get. I probably would have settled for the dollar amount than purchased what I wanted had it not taken so long in the first place. It has now been over three months.
Updated on 08/12/2015: First I need to say that I have had Total Protect for 4 years nest month. Up till this incident, service has been satisfactory. Then, this February 2015, I filed a claim on a two year old Samsung washing machine. The soap dish was not emptying. I filed this claim online around the 15th. Finally, on the 17th, having not heard from Total Protect I called them. I was told that they were having trouble contacting a representative to repair my machine and I was assigned a claim number. Total Protect called me back on the 18th and said they had a repairman that could come out on the 20th and I was to give him a call. I called and an appointment was setup for that day. The repairman showed up spent about 45 minutes at my place, I paid my deductible of $85.00 he diagnosed the issue and told me he would get back with me. After not hearing for a week I called him and still was not called back. Another week went by and I called again. Still no answer. So I called Total Protect. They contacted the repairman and he called me several days later. I was told he was having issues with finding the correct part, he couldn't find a diagram of the machine and a part number. I told him t keep Total Protect informed and I would contact them for updates.
Well, several more weeks went by and yes, we are well into March now. I finally called Total Protect again, and was told they would call me back. They did about 3 days later. Total Protect told me that Samsung quit making that manufacturing the parts for it had been outsourced to a third party. However they though they had it corrected and the correct part had been ordered and would be here in three days. Well, by April I still had not heard. Mind you now, I had been taking my laundry in to a laundry service this whole time.So I called Total Protect towards the end of April. I was not a happy camper at all. I was told that they could not repair my machine and they offered me another machine that had at least 3 less primary functions then what I already had, Actually more when I checked it out. I refused that and was told they would call me.
Well, we are into May now, and no call from Total Protect. So I called, they offered me the same machine or $725.00 towards a new one. I should have accepted this offer, but I didn't. I was mad and declined the offer. No, I was not abusive to the person on the other end. After about two weeks and a letter to Samsung that I wrote, I called Total Protect, stated that I should not have declined that offer, that I was mad and could I reconsider. I was told they would call me back. Well, that of course did not happen. I Called them after about two weeks and was told no, I could not reconsider their offer. We are close to the end of May now. I received an e-mail from Samsung asking me to call them at a specific number. So I did. I was told that the machine was not being made any longer (that model) however, they had diagrams and parts for it. You did have to be an authorized repairman though. Samsung gave me two phone numbers to call and on the 29th of May a repairman arrived at my house, was here for twenty minutes at the most. Called up the diagram on his iPad and ordered the $12.00 part. Total service call plus part was $80.50 cents. The part arrived around mid June, simply a new soap dish which I slipped in and everything is working fine now. I called Total Protect again and they refused to talk with me.
So I filed a small claims suit against them. I was initially offered $225.00 which I refused. Just today I was offered all my premiums for this year and notified that I would cancelled. They no longer wanted my business.
Now, Total Protect was recommended to me by my mortgage company which is Suntrust. In fact, my monthly payment to Total Protect is part of my mortgage payment. I have not accepted this offer yet and I am not sure that I will. Total Protect has hired an attorney in an attempt to bully me into submission. That won't work. Anyway, I have contacted Suntrust and I am expecting a call back. I don't feel that Suntrust to should recommend a company that operates this way. Time will tell I guess.

Usually it's a pretty easy process submitting claims to TotalProtect. The only time there are problems is if there's an extensive repair and the communication between the technician and home office isn't quite clear. But we've had great success through the years. We've had TotalProtect help us replace a refrigerator, garbage disposal, and replace the motors on our microwave. We've had major work done to our air conditioning system and to the water heater. They also replaced the pump that circulates hot water. We also had a problem with our garage door that they addressed as well. We've had really, really good service overall. I've had to give an A to an A plus.

It was no more than three or four minutes on the phone with him. The company they sent was very knowledgeable. I read the benefits of having TotalProtect so I got it. I had one claim that I submitted to them just recently. Actually I was a little bothered by the experience I have had. It wasn't with TotalProtect itself but with one of their contractors. What happened was they came out to the job and he'd seen the problems that I was having. It ended up having to open up two walls in my home, and they told me there was an additional price. I was a little disturbed by that because I thought it was supposed to be cheaper and I didn't know there was gonna be an additional price. I had to pay an additional price as well as them not even patching the hole-maker so they left me with two open holes and then I had to pay the additional fee due those same holes. I was very displeased with that.
I did contact TotalProtect in regards to that because I know that they were supposed to call me first and see if there was gonna be any additional work that they needed to do so they can give it to someone else. But they didn't even make sure that I had enough finances to cover the additional fee - my deductible was only $75. That's neither here nor there but that was my first and only experience with using their service. It didn't make me not want to continue to be with them but it was fairly disturbing.
I still would recommend TotalProtect because it is a great program to take advantage of. It's just that they need to just have clarity and make sure that the individual communicates with the proper person so they won't confuse the fees and things like that. I would also recommend that people be clear and open and ask questions before allowing them to do the work.

And I had no problems with the technicians at the time. Everything seems to be improved after HMS switch over to automated machine where I just called in, put in my account number and tell what my issue was. When the crew got there he had to go through a lot of red tape because the service people were trying to find out if it was legitimately worn out; if it deserved to be replaced or if there was something that could just be a part. It seemed a longer process than what it should have been. The tank guy said "it's 12, 15 years old; it's met its match." And they were haggling with the repair company a bit. They took down all of our information and put us in touch with a plumber that was able to determine what the issue was and how to go about fixing it, so it was pretty much a one-day turnover. The only issue we found out was that our sump pump was not able to keep up with the demand of the weather here in Ohio so technically there was nothing wrong. It wasn't covered by the warranty program so we're still going to have to replace it and we'll be out that money essentially. But the plumber who came and talked to us was very knowledgeable and helpful so we were satisfied. Overall, the quality was fine and everything was done as it should have been. One of our good friends had TotalProtect and when we were talking about our policy not working out so well, she said hers is really good and suggested we should look into it, so we did. So now, we have TotalProtect and have used it two times when I had three household appliances that needed checking - the stove top was not heating, dishwasher was leaking, and clothes washer was making a horrible shriek.
The guy checked our stove top and found what was wrong with it and put it in for research. I still haven't got a definitive answer on that yet but I had to call him several times to get him to answer my question. Anyway, he gave me the part that I needed for the dishwasher. I bought that and put it in myself and everything's working great. I looked at my clothes washer and it cycled through all the cycles. Although it still got the shriek, it's spinning better so I was happy with that. Also I have not yet got a date when Sears are gonna come and replace the parts for the stove top (They did find the part but they haven't called me to tell me when they're coming).
I also had another call for my air conditioning - my house cost me about triple or quadruple amount of money this year to heat the house than it did last year. The man came and found that whoever had put a thermostat in last August had wired it wrong. So every time the heat came on, the gas heat and the electric air conditioning came on. The guy was trying to heat it as it was cooling so it was working against each other. So he fixed it right away and was able to save me several bucks. I'm probably gonna call him for some other things soon.
So, now I'm enjoying TotalProtect but I've got to think better to use it more wisely. My problem is I don't know how to put my request together. As soon as they come, I realize I should've put that on my request. My problem with my other place was that it would take 7 trips to get a simple thing fixed instead of just coming in prepared to do it when I've given a description of what I felt was wrong. They would come for plumbing but they wouldn't bring any plumbing equipment. They wouldn't bring any sink traps and so I'd have to provide them a sink trap out of my supplies for them to fix it. I could have just got over there and fixed it myself. So I wasted 85 bucks on that.

They're professional and that makes claims processing very easy. We've used their services a couple of times now. The technicians are always knowledgeable, very helpful, and took care of everything we needed. There was a couple of times where sometimes the technician was scheduled to come and they never showed or I was given a contractor or an electrician I could never get a hold of him. I'd leave a message and they never got back to me. When I reported that back however, it was quickly taken care of.
Also, there was a mix-up in my last claim. I basically had to take a day off work waiting for someone that never showed up and hurt me in the pocket. When I was making the claim, I asked for a name and number of the contractor that would be coming to the house so if necessary, I could contact them and try to get a better time when they would be there. The rep said she didn't know the information about the time. All they would tell me was it would be some time on that day and not half a day in the morning or the half in the afternoon, and it took a couple of phone calls to get it resolved. When we got HMS warranty with the house, we've ended up using it a number of times and have always been very happy with it. I just make a phone call and let them know what's going on. They're very nice and they usually call back as soon as they got somebody lined up. Their technicians are always very pleasant and I never had anybody come in who was cranky, aside from this one time when we had a look at our air conditioning unit. We had one of the gentlemen who was like 'We'll have to take the whole thing apart and it's going to take forever and blah blah...' and he was really more cranky than anything else. But everybody else have been pleasant that I got my brother recommended to it and he uses it now.

I was a realtor with Coldwell Banker in Illinois and I know HMS had always been on our list to give to homeowners if they wanted a warranty company. I have had another warranty provider for two years and out of the three calls I made to them, they told me "I'm sorry, we don't cover that". That's the reason why I switched to HMS Home Warranty. People at HMS have always been very receptive and cordial. But they need to keep a tighter line on the vendors. I have to admit that the very first claim that I made, HMS had linked me with a vendor and I didn't hear from them for two or three days. I called and they said that they never received a call from us and that it's okay because they don't service our area anyway. So that first meeting didn't quite go well.
There was a second vendor that took over. However, from the time I first contacted them until the job was done, it took about a month. I didn't like the response time there, so that was not acceptable. But at the time, I didn't want to say anything until the job was finished because I was afraid he would just blow me off. Apparently the company that they set me up with for a water softener repair is the only company that handles my area. But the technicians were very good so it's just that the response time in their office was not good. I also had a gentleman come out to repair my water heater before and he was terrific. I have very good things to say about his job and he was very cordial too when he came.

My bank recommended TotalProtect and reading through the material, I thought it would be a good thing to be involved with. It's been a very good experience with them and the last one that I had was very good in explaining the situation. The last two have been very good, too. There are times though where it takes a while with some of their company sub-contractors. There was a time one company didn't come at all and we had to get another, but overall the majority was good. If I need them for something else, I've used some of them to come back and do some other work for me, not necessarily that they have to do it with TotalProtect but I know that I can have the electrician come over and fix the light fixtures. I also needed some plumbing done in one of the sinks and I went and put a new one, so now I have a plumber that I can call in. So for those, I use TotalProtect and I recommend them; they do a good job.

I am a real estate agent with Long & Foster and I have been selling HMS warranties to my clients. I put my money where my mouth is, so I buy HMS warranty for my personal property as well. I am an investor and when I sell my properties, I also sell the HMS warranty connected with the property. I just think it's been a very good thing to do. It gives a little reassurance that you're not going to have any problem at first year, so I give that to my buyers and sellers, and for my own personal properties that I have as rental properties. I am really grateful that I have it because I've had a real pain in the neck from tenants who are always calling me for this thing or that. I just call HMS, and it's taken care of so I don't have to worry about it.
This last time, I had a little problem with Florida Cracker (Plumbing). They have done work on our property before and they were absolutely fine. The tenant called my management company, my management company called me, then I called HMS and I said "Get somebody over there because the thing is leaking," and the tenant didn't hear from anybody. She called them and left messages but they didn't call her back and 24 hours went by. She was panicking, calling my management company too and then called me, and then I had to call HMS again. I said "Look, we haven't heard from Florida Cracker." I don't know what happened if they were given the wrong phone number or if there were some loss of communications.
But because I called HMS again, they emailed Florida Cracker and then we got an immediate response. It all got taken care of. It took like a day too long, but I don't think it was HMS's fault. It did get resolved and it turned out as a revisit because they had been out just a month or so ago for the same process that was not working properly and, evidently, they put the wrong part on. They didn't charge anything for this revisit because it was their mistake so all's well that ends well. Overall, I love HMS. I use them all the time and I will recommend them to people.

This last time I submitted a claim for a water heater and I actually went through with the entire claim process with TotalProtect and it was awful. I called and they gave me the claim number and the name of the company that would be out. That was fine. The plumber came out and I told him I wanted to decide between a regular tank and tank with water heater, the plumber said okay. He gave me the estimate to have it done with me going with the regular tank water heater. He's supposed to get back to me and ask if I wanted to proceed with the tank with water heater. He never did. So in the meantime, a week goes by and I still have water on my floor. This has gotten long enough.
I called the plumber back, and I said, "Okay, listen. I'm just going to go with the regular tank." I didn't even get into the fact a week without any response as to how much the tank would cost. But then the plumber tell me that my case has been closed and my insurance company has cashed me out for my damages. I didn't know what he was talking about since no one has cashed me out, my claim is not closed. The plumber wouldn't discuss it any further however and said for me to call the insurance company. So I called them and I talked with this representative who told me that they closed my claim as I said I was going with the tank. I insisted that I was supposed to have been able to decide which way I want to go.
I spent the entire day Wednesday calling TotalProtect, getting put on hold, arguing to get the whole matter resolved. Appallingly, when I called the second time, the counselor said they can set up another claim in which I'd have to pay another $85 deductible. I think it was ridiculous that I had to spend that much time and energy trying to get my water heater resolved when clearly the contract says that I pay my $85 deductible and TotalProtect will replace it if it requires replacement. Add to this that I had to pay a second $85 deductible when nothing have been replaced, nothing have been repaired and I had to keep calling back. As a consumer, I don't think that one should have to argue in order to receive the coverage in which they pay for.
I had four separate conversations with TotalProtect regarding that water heater. Finally, when it was resolved, I had to pay the $85 deductible again, plus they had to send a different company out because the first company no longer wants to come out to our house. As I have had water on my floor for a week at that time, I agreed to what they were offering.
When the second plumber came out, he told me how much it would cost to replace the water heater. And then he tells me, "No you don't owe a second deductible. And I said, “What do you mean?” He said, “Well, I called the company and they said that you already paid your deductible to another company.” I thought how absurd that I had to spend the whole day at my office arguing with them over the phone only to get them to see the same point that they came to when the guy came out to my house. It was sloppy service. In the end, it was resolved. I did not have to pay a second $85 deductible. My water heater has been replaced but the service experience was absolutely a trainwreck.

When I bought my home, the seller provided the home warranty for a year. I contacted HMS Home Warranty when my refrigerator was leaking. They figured out the problem and sent out a person. They scheduled another appointment as they had to order a part. Then the problem was solved when they came out to install that part. Two technicians came here and both of them were awesome. They recognized the problem right away. The guy who came out to install the part knew what he was doing.
The only negative is that the first guy who came out initially wanted to charge me for the part. When he made a call, he finally said that they won't charge me for the part. But when the guy came and replaced it, they made me pay for the part. I didn't really want to try and talk the guy out of it, so I had to pay more than my $100 deductible. The part wasn't that expensive, but that was really the only downside for the whole experience which was not a big deal so I would still recommend them.

l was looking at all the different things that HMS covered and I thought it was pretty nice to have, especially when you're newly moving into a home and you don't have any access or not familiar with the things that you have. I had this one claim when the guy came out to do the work for my sump pump, he was like "Well, system works fine." But the thing was that it wasn't working the day before. From what he could tell, he says the system looks fairly new. I've had recurrence of the same thing happen again and but I'm not going to call. You pay a hundred dollars for them to come out and look at it and then they tell you everything's okay. And then I had a steady rainfall again and the water passed by where the main pumps should've kicked in where the guy told me was working but it was already almost ready to come out through the floor. So is that fixed?- I mean, I’ve never had a sump pump before. But I'm happy with their communication.

The last time when I had them do the plumbing work, they removed my ceiling and said that the ceiling was damaged so now the ceiling is open. I had to look for other wood and look for other guys to fix it since whoever came to do the plumbing said he can only do the plumbing work. I submitted two claims. I called about the refrigerator and I called about the breaker system the same day and spoke to ** both times. For the refrigerator, they made an appointment for April the 22nd and Sears came and they did a wonderful job. And I wish that I would have known that they would have come for the problem that I’m having now with the breaker system.
The breaker system that I have had a problem with takes my TV off. When I put my microwave on, it trips the breaker. There’s one breaker and it’s the same breaker every time. My husband is in construction and he knows a lot about a lot of things and he says it should not be tripping because the microwave is on a different breaker. Well why does it trip when it does turn on? That’s the only time the thing trips. In any case the man comes in (the other person) the breaker doesn’t trip. So he says, “Well I gotta call my boss man.” I said okay, and he calls his boss and he says, “Well if it didn’t trip, there’s nothing wrong with it.” So I pay him the $75 and his statement is “If you have the same problem within six months then we come back and it’s free.”
Well then I called up today and spoke to **. Then she said “I’ll give you the same claim number and the man will come out, and they’ll call you.” So I waited and the man called and I told him “I’m calling on a Monday. My husband will be here Friday before 12:00.” I figured I wanted my husband to be here when the service call was made and not be by myself. The man said, “Well I can’t do that.” And I said, “Well I’m giving you a week’s notice, and you can’t do it?” “Well no,” he says and I said “Well my husband works Monday through Friday. He doesn’t get home until 7:00.”
“Oh well, we can come out 7:00. We can come out at 7:00 on Tuesday.” I said fine. I called my husband and I said “They’ll be here tomorrow at 7:00.” Then the man calls me back and says “I will have to charge you another fee.” And I said “No, you won’t charge me another fee.” I said “’Because if that’s the case, I will get HMS Home Warranty to send Sears out.” Because I was not at all impressed with this man. He stayed in my house less than five minutes. He did not try to do anything that would have helped the matter. He was not even dressed with a uniform. I did not see a truck that said his company’s name, if he did have a company’s name. I just opened the door, and that was a dumb thing on my part.
Anyway, I feel like I’m being cheated because I know what was said to me, that if it’s the same problem... which it is (the breaker didn’t trip that day but that is the problem with it) and I'm not happy with it. But as far as the situation with the refrigerator, the man from Sears had to replace a part and it was fixed -- 1 2 3... it was done. He was nice and I liked it. I even asked him about the same thing. He says "Well I think you need a bigger breaker." I said "Oh. Well I wonder why that man didn't say that..."
All I want is my breaker to be fixed. When I bought my house, I'm thinking everything's fine and we even had someone come check our house. We paid them $500 to have them inspect our house, so we knew there was nothing wrong. Then we get in it and the breaker goes and does that when we're watching our TV. I am a television person, so I do not want the television going off because I got to go warm this or do that with the microwave.

The technician claimed that the drain pan was broken which caused leaking water into the secondary drain pan causing it to rust. Submitting a claim is pretty easy. It used to be on the phone and now it's online and if I can't find what I need to online I can always still call and they will help me. I always have a claim number within a couple of minutes and a guarantee of somebody coming out within 24 hours usually.
The technicians have all been professional and helpful. Even though if they're here to only fix one thing, if they see something else wrong, they will let me know that that's not part of this fix but that I should have someone come and take a look at it and what time frame it needed to be done. So it's not an immediate emergency plan but in 6 months, this will need to be looked at and if I have another person who does that, that's fine. They don't push to sell that to me but they let me know any other repairs that may need to be done in conjunction to what they're doing.
The quality of HMS Home Warranty's work was definitely competent and professional. Otherwise, I would have called HMS to let them know that I had a problem with their technician or service provider. We did not give them a favorable feedback after our last.
Once you submit the claim, you're then at the mercy of whoever they have subcontracted and I don't care for the company they chose. Total Protect would not cover a non-working air conditioning unit because it was rusted and the policy specifically dosn't replace rusty units. the unit is 17 years old and rust would be a given at that age. So, essentially they have a way out of covering the cost to replace any older units. I will be cancelling this policy. Plus, when I tried to speak with a supervisor, they were always busy. I gave a time to have my calls returned and they would call earlier much earlier than the time I requested. This went on for a week. They were just hoping I would go away. I'm considering reaching out to the media so others can be made aware of how this company works.
