I knew people that had good results with HMS Home Warranty so I thought it would be the best thing to go with them. The claims reps were nice. I thought they would probably need to get me a new dryer but the technician fixed it and it seems to be working out because I had fixed it twice before. Everything has been fine.

TotalProtect came about with the original mortgage holder on this house so it was automatically added on to our mortgage. Subsequently, we've changed mortgage companies and we refinance, so now I just charge through a credit card and have it every month and I've had them for ten years. They've been very responsive when we submit a claim online or through the phone. And if something was tied up for a day or two, there was usually someone I hear for my problem, depending upon who the sub-contractor is.

With the technicians, sometimes the part that we need for the repairs may not be available locally but I've always had it within three days if it's something from out of town. And if it was for heating and air conditioning, I've never had to wait at all. They worked on that because they know, we have to have the air conditioning here. Before, the service company who serviced us for the air conditioning was very expensive. Then I went ahead and joined TotalProtect's Gold part in which I pay a little extra money a month, and I'll be getting the same service.

So I thought, "Why am I paying these people a monthly service and I have this TotalProtect thing I've been paying on for years, and with a little bit of an upcharge, I can have the same service?" So I eliminated the heating and air conditioning company and just went with TotalProtect. Since then, I have no complaints and I'm very pleased. I've even had some of the sub-contractors who've come out here and work at our place and they told us that they had very good luck with TotalProtect versus American Home Shield. So I feel quite comfortable with that.

Up to this point, there has never been a price increase at all. Over the years, if I hadn’t upgraded to the other plan, my premium would’ve remained the same. I don't know how they’re able to do that because I know everything has gone up. But I understand the $75 service charge. I understand the agreement that we have for certain things and I have no problem with it. I recommend TotalProtect to anyone. Excellent Service.

I never thought of any home warranty provider but I kept getting TotalProtect flyers in the mail with my mortgage statement so I decided to use them since it's attached to my mortgage. It has saved me a lot of money. Their claims process is fairly straightforward. However, part of the difficulty is that it has to go through all the hoops so it takes twice as long. When the hot water heater or the air conditioning goes out, two weeks is a long time. But other than that, it's not so bad when it's something that you don't really have to live with.

Their people are very helpful, courteous and friendly and it's easy to get a hold of people there. However sometimes the contractors on their list are not always the best. I found a few of them that I really didn't like so I had to call and ask for somebody else. One air conditioning guy came last year and said, "Oh, it needs freon and a new fan." They provided that when in fact, it was fuel and oil. And the guy this year found that all of the unit had to be replaced. If I can call up and talk to somebody to say, "This is the contractor I would like to come cause he has come before and I liked him, and he does good work," it would be a lot more helpful than having to deal with the automated system that gives me their number one contractor where I have to call up and ask for that to be changed.

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!!! They lie and cheat customers. Called for four days to get my AC fixed (my spouse has brain cancer living in an almost 90 degree home), and all I get out of them is there is only ONE company on their network in my area. Then, after I am assured they have scheduled an appointment and the tech would be there to fix it between 4-8pm, I went to sleep at 11pm with no AC. Day 5 and they have no idea who we spoke to and there was no appointment scheduled. They called us and told us a tech would be there and never spoke to anyone about coming. This is not the first time this has happened; they completely screwed me over. Do not trust or believe them. KEEP YOUR MONEY FOR SOMEONE HONEST!!!!

I've only had two claims submitted to HMS in this home. Submitting was fine. Response time was okay. Regarding the last one, the tech came in, did his thing and left. I thought it was extremely overpriced for what I needed done after my deductible. Part of it was covered and part was not which I did not agree with but apparently he checked into it and said that the one part was not covered. End up costing me a hundred and eighty something dollars to literally fix the plates in the ice maker and a little plastic shelf.

I chose TotalProtect because of the initial outlay of the money. When it comes to claims, one thing that I didn't like was the fact that Sears was supposed to have come and take care of things which I didn't find out until a month later that Sears appointments were made through TotalProtect. There was the same problem going on with the garbage disposal stuff for over a month before a lady called me and said, "We made that appointment." I said, "Nobody told me. So let’s make the appointment." And after that, everything went smooth.

The technicians who have come here were fine. However, a year ago, I had problems with my fans and the guy was so busy and lived way downstate that it was hard for him to get up here. So it went on and on then I had a problem with the wires burning. It took one fan and so he finally came out and fixed it. The problem with TotalProtect has always been the time from when I put in a claim til the time the problem actually gets fixed. But I had recommended them, and the fact that I’m sticking with them says it all.

We recently had our AC fixed and the technicians were out right when they said they'll be and were very helpful and nice people. The quality of work is very good and problem always gets fixed. We also utilize TotalProtect because of the price.

Dryer stopped working. Called the home warranty company. Assigned to vendor who came out within 48 hrs. All's good.......NOT. Repairman came out and said motherboard was out on electronic dashboard of dryer. It still showed information, just clicked when "start" was hit. Took them 24 hrs to write the report and then part ordered. NOT DELIVERED FOR 2 WEEKS!! Repair company kept telling me "we have 2 weeks turnaround to fix your dryer" Not so says home warranty company. Problem was their vendor needed to wait for Total Home Protect to send funds for parts BEFORE they could even order parts. After 2 weeks (exactly), vendor schedules part installation. Guess what, part doesn't work. Machine doesn't work. Repairman takes off the whole electronic dashboard, goes back to office because it's not replaceable. Next thing I know, Total Home Protect calls and says it's not covered because of a manufacturer's defect......appears the housing was glued, which they said wasn't

"standard" and therefore a manufacturer's defect........My dryer was a Maytag Bravos series, cost $900 NEW, and it was a manufacturer's defect! I bought it from Home Depot (which may be the root of this whole problem) but after 3 weeks a decision was made. I've been with Total Protect for over 2 years and never had this problem. They replaced a wall over back during my first year (oh, wait, maybe they kept a running tab? ), and I've never been treated like this by a vendor. End result.......I bought another dryer from Sears Outlet for much less than my warranty! They never once gave me a receipt or any kind of documentation as to what they did or what they took from my property. RUN FROM THIS COMPANY AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!!!!!!

TotalProtect has done great. It's very easy to submit a claim - the 1st one I did online and the 2nd (yesterday) I called in. Their reps have guided me through in terms of whether it would be an appliance or a plumbing issue, so it wasn't a hassle. The technicians that have come were very friendly, knowledgeable about what my issue was and resolved it in a quickly manner. Getting signed up with TotalProtect helped me in the long run in terms of the cost when everything's breaking down or needing to be fixed. The cost of $40 something a month is definitely worth having protection on what happens in my house. It's the best decision I've made in terms of my house. I have recommended TotalProtect to two individuals who've gotten it as well.

I have had Total Protect Home Warranty for a few years now. The service has gone down tremendously. In May 2015 I put in a claim for a plumber because the water was going down slow in the toilet. I usually watch contractors while they work in my home but this time I did not do that and the plumber stopped my toilet up completely and told me it was going to cost over $500 to have him fix it and another $200 for a new toilet. Mind you there was absolutely nothing wrong with the toilet bowl, and it worked but not as fast as I wanted it to. He stuffed something in my toilet bowl to try and make money from me, I informed Total Protect, they sent someone else out to look at it, and he said someone had put something in the toilet.

Another situation on 6/6/2015 I put in a service call for my boiler, on 6/8/15 AC Mechanical contacted me to come out and look at the boiler, Andre came out, I paid my service fee, he looked at the boiler, said he needed to order a part, he needed to order it, and he would get back to us. As of 7/21/15 my boiler still has not been serviced, nor has anyone come back out to look at it. I have contacted Total Protect at least 15 times, spoken to 15 different people, even had a Supervisor with Total Protect do a conference call with AC Mechanical (Andre), he promised he would come out the next day, I stayed home from work and waited. He never showed, never called! I am Totally disgusted and dissatisfied with Total Protect Home Warranty!!! They need to have a better screening process for the contractors they hire to work for them. If I am paying for a service, I expect to get that service....I got nothing with Total Protect Home Warranty!! !

Generally, they give me a claim number, the phone number of who's going to make the repair, and either schedule the repair or I can schedule it myself. Technicians have always been good and willing to fix the problem. They diagnose what is wrong, then call TotalProtect to get the okay. That can be anywhere from five minutes to longer. Things get either repaired, replaced or I am given some type of a loan towards a new one. I've actually had a couple of appliances replaced.

This morning, I finally sent the gentleman an email because I figured they ask you to wait 48 hours if you haven’t heard anything, so I sent him the email and hopefully I will get some response. I try to keep the house comfortable for my mother who’s just home from the hospital a couple of weeks and I’m not really thrilled with the response. We filed a claim regarding our air conditioner going out. The air conditioner was judged as not being repairable. Therefore, supposedly, we were to get a new unit. Instead, for 3 weeks we have been surviving in extreme heat without any contact from company until we call. We have had to reside with others because of the heat. No one ever discussed what we were getting, sent any papers or responded in a timely manner. My wife almost had to go to the emergency room because we though we could hold out until service was provided. Because we are up in age (over 60), the heat is dangerous. This is not acceptable conduct on the part of this company. To make matters worst, even the air conditioning company had no idea of what is going on. We cannot and will not continue to live with others. If we stay in our home and any medical situation occurs, we will hold you totally responsible. This type of unprofessionalism should not occur. We need immediate action on this claim, and we need to talk to someone as to what we may eventually be getting. We cannot allow you to just send something that we do not know what it is. By the way, the heat plus my wife's seizures do not mix. This is too much stress. We need an immediate resolution to this problem.

First of all let me say that during the first 11 months with Total Protect, I highly recommended it to everyone I knew. I made public comments on Facebook and personally spoke about it to many friends and family members. I was especially impressed with the ease and quick response when placing a claim. I told everyone they were crazy if they didn't purchase a home warranty with Total Home Protect and that I only wish I had done it sooner. WELL... at the beginning of June (6 weeks before the annual renewal of my warranty), I received a letter saying that Total Home Protect was not letting me renew my policy. I was flabbergasted and disappointed to say the least! I spoke about it to many people, including my realtor friends, two of the contractors I used through my home warranty and others who had home warranties, none of them have ever heard of a company not renewing a home warranty. No reason was stated in the letter I received: however, my guess is that I was not being allowed to renew because I had used the warranty during the year. I had a leaking hot water heater and garbage disposal replaced, a minor furnace repair and leaking pipes. Isn't that the reason a homeowner buys a home warranty??? I knew my house was getting older (16 years) and things would start to go wrong. I worried constantly about these things, since I am a single working mother with other bills to pay.
Last summer, before going with Total Home Protect, I spent lots of time researching the various home warranty companies. Total Home Protect received many high scores. After speaking on the phone with a representative who was very helpful, polite and knowledgeable, I signed up.
Little did I know that if I actually had to use the policy I would be cancelled. Really, whoever heard of a home warranty company cancelling a policy??? BTW, I was never late in any of my monthly payments and was also very kind and appreciative of any help they gave me.
Oh, and I never received the promised $25 gift card for looking at their company and signing up. I also should have received another $25 gift card for a friend who signed up because of my recommendation. And, I am pretty sure I had several others who signed up because of me.
Now, I plan on telling all of them, that they made a horrible mistake in using Total Home Protect and they should look elsewhere for coverage. I will also make a public Facebook comment about what happened to me and also plan to contact the BBB, Consumer Affairs and Consumer Reports.

What a shame, that I was mislead by Total Home Protect!

Called on 6/28 about my toilet leaking and overflowing, so they gave me a plumber to call, which I called and left messages for 3 days straight. No one ever returned my call and over the weekend when no one was home the toilet overflowed and flooded my basement. Plumber number 2, stated they would be there between 10-2, so I took off work to be there. Lo and behold, I get a call at 4 stating he would be there at 5... 6 o'clock rolls around and he is there to "Fix a broken pipe." When I told him that was not the problem, he said that was on the work order so he didn't have any of the tools he needed and I would need to reschedule.

So I did. Again I was told he would be there between 10-2 and again he shows up at 5 pm. He couldn't figure out what's wrong. Finally 3 weeks later (after BOTH toilets aren't working) plumber #3 comes out and tells me that my sewage system is completely blocked and needs to be snaked from outside, which, OH HEY BY THE WAY isn't covered by HMS. Now I have to pay $800 PLUS my $100 deductible (Choice home warranty covers more for a $60 deductible btw). This is absolutely unacceptable.Customer service does nothing to help, managers are rude and you can put in as many requests as you want for a manager to call back and they never do. Well, to be honest I did get a bit of a runaround. They sent 3 techs and the first 2 mis-diagnosed. The first tech had to come back 3 times within 5 days cause he kept mis-diagnosing. The air would work for a few hours and then blow warm again. Finally, he just gave up and said he did not know what was wrong and would not return. So the search begins again, in the middle of the summer in Georgia, to find an available tech. So we got another one who said essentially we had the wrong unit - that cause the warranty to deny the claim. With that, we had to go to work ourselves to prove we had the right unit, then get the guy to call in and correct his error - which he did. However, keep in mind that all the while I had to pay the Servicing Fee to each one. The 3rd tech finally said I needed a new unit, so now I had to wait days for the approval, then I had to wait more days for the equipment to arrive and then more days for the tech to install it. Ends up we were 3 weeks in the Georgia 90+ heat without air! However, I will credit this company for recognizing that they needed to replace the unit, and stepping up to the plate to make it happen. Now we have a completely new system and we are happy. Hardly even remember we spent 3 weeks in weather reaching 90+ degrees on some days while we waited for the repair and subsequent new install. I would recommend them, yes, only because they do the right thing - many warranty companies, from what I hear, do not. Customer service was good - but it was hard to get them some days we held up to 45 minutes waiting on them to come on the line. They did honor their commitments to call us back and they did seem to work to get our claim resolved - we spent a lot of time on the phone with them - a lot!

I went with TotalProtect over any other warranty provider because I like their philosophy. I would ask around at church and a couple of people who also have TP said they have been really satisfied. For the most part, we've been pretty pleased with TP. There was one instance though with our dishwasher we weren't too happy about. The guy that came out and looked at it said it quit working because there's been cockroaches up in the board - he hadn't even opened it so there was no way he knew that. But TotalProtect didn't want to even get a second opinion so we ended up replacing the dishwasher. However, we felt that they should have taken the initiative to get a second opinion. We even called them back and offered that my husband, who has a lot of experience with small equipment repairs, put in the board if only TP pays for it - but they said they can't do that either.

Also, the technician that came out to replace the hot water heater really didn't have any idea what he was doing. My husband knew more about it than he did. The technician was gonna cut off the pipe right at the hot water heater and attach it right there and my husband warned him that it will blow off. He told the technician that if does blow, the company the technician works for is gonna have to pay for the damages. Nevertheless, TotalProtect itself have been very accommodating and I always get emails asking me about the service. I'm upfront with them and I tell them if it's good, bad, and different. I know it isn't always their fault, sometimes it's the company and the technician they send. So overall, we've had a relatively good experience with TP.

The first time I talked to somebody from HMS, she sounded foreign. It was really hard to understand her and she didn't really give me all the options. I had a bunch of things that were wrong with the house; one of them being the water heater not working upon moving in. The customer service rep was able to get back with me within two days of when I could make an appointment which also means no showering for two days.

Then it was a matter of them making the appointment which was for the following Monday - another two days later. They came out to say that it needed to be replaced. That took five days from me to get approval. I had an emergency installed that didn't go through very well and they were able to install the following Monday. I came out of pocket for the whole amount too, and I'm still waiting four weeks later for a reimbursement check. So it’s not a very good experience at all.

Moreover, the quality of the work was done by somebody outside of HMS. It was done by Lowe's because they did the buyout option. It's a skewered piece of mind that everything's going to be okay, but when you get a problem they want 75 bucks for each thing. A lot of times repairs aren't worth the deductible and I'm playing the waiting game. Next time I'll make sure all that stuffs fixed before I move in, and never try to rely on my home warranty.

I may have skewed expectations of what a warranty service, or just basic insurance for that matter is supposed to help with in the event of an unforeseen incident. We moved into our house almost 4 years ago, and one of our primary concerns was the age of some of our appliances, namely the existing A/C unit. As part of our negotiations the seller opted to provide 2 years of warranty coverage (via HMS Home Warranty) to alleviate some of these concerns. When this period expired my wife and I opted to extend coverage with HMS seeing as we still had concern for certain house systems (again, a focus on the A/C).

We had activated the warranty for a few other items in our house over the years, mostly plumbing issues - not really thinking much about the blanket $100 deductible charge for repairs (even though certain repairs did not seem to necessitate the full $100, but some of these contractors I believe have grown used to simply charging the deductible without any further breakdown of the invoice).

Just this past week we noticed that our A/C unit was making noise and so decided to file a claim and have someone from HMS come take a look. They discovered that our fan had lost a blade and was running unevenly, causing the noise and wearing out the motor. Parts were ordered and we were told the repairs would be covered by our warranty. We were told by the technicians to use the unit sparingly until the parts arrived after the holiday. Within hours the unit was making a terrible noise, and when I noticed that the motor was creating enough torque to rip a hole in the top cover the unit, I immediately shut it off and informed the technicians.

Speaking to HMS shortly after, they informed me that the unit would now have to be replaced and that I was no longer covered. Their reasoning was that they do not cover "external damage" of equipment, only mechanical failures. So instead of looking at the A/C unit as an overall appliance failure, they instead chose to focus on the failure of specific components, likening the cover to resulting damage - similar to a water leak's effect on drywall, or an Act of God. So in the end, HMS did not have my back when a primary appliance in my house failed, which was really the only reason I had the warranty in the first place. They chose to opt out on a technicality, and even had the nerve to essentially admit to this on the phone to me.

The customer service experience was another sore point. After routinely waiting 15 minutes plus to talk to a human, I proceeded to speak with several claims representatives with varying degrees of politeness and competence. Everyone I spoke to had a different reasoning on why I was not being covered. I was sent in circles between the claims department and the membership services department, each claiming that the other knew more about my particular case, and I was ultimately forwarded to a case manager, at which point I was disconnected (this happened multiple times).

I was finally told that a case manager would call me within 4-8 business hours, and when she finally did (2 days later), she was more prone to repeat the company line than anyone I had previously spoken to. When I informed her that this ordeal had negated my need for a home warranty and that I would be canceling my membership, I was simply told "I am sorry to hear that". All that being said, I would not recommend this service to anyone else - it is clear that HMS Home Warranty is in this business to take your money and not fulfill the intent of the product you pay monthly for.

To be fair, I understand the goal of any insurance company is to pay out less to you than you pay them; however, with HMS Home Warranty the odds are stacked quite heavily in their favor. When they're selling you a home warranty, they act like they cover almost any repair; unknown pre-existing conditions? - No problem! But, what is buried in the pages of fine print are exclusions for all of the most common causes of home repairs. Their network of "pre-screened qualified service professionals" are more often than not neither qualified nor professional. I can only assume the pre-screening process is asking if they're willing to accept half what they'd normally be paid for their time.

A good service contractor typically generates a steady stream of employment based on quality work and satisfied customers; these folks aren't interested in working with warranty companies because they have enough work on their own and make twice what HMS is willing to pay them. So, HMS is left with the bottom of the barrel contractors (again, to be fair, not all of them are terrible. I did have one positive experience with an HVAC technician who showed up on time, was polite and knew his business). I've waited weeks for their contractors to schedule appointments, had misdiagnosed or improperly repaired issues that I've had to hire my own contractors to come in and fix, had one of their contractors who no call/no showed to two consecutive appointments (couple others that have shown up late), and most recently had HMS try to assign a plumber to diagnose and repair my pool equipment which he knew nothing about.

Making an initial claim is easy since you don't have to talk to a human at all; however, calling their "help" line to follow up on a claim (typically for me because their assigned contractor never called back or failed to show up for appointment) is a nightmare. I have never been on hold for less than 15 minutes, once waited over 45 minutes to talk to someone, and on a couple other occasions hung up after 30-45 minutes of being on hold. It feels as though the entire process is specifically designed to frustrate you into not bothering to file claims or get repairs done because you don't have weeks of your life to give up waiting on or fighting with HMS.

All in all, their warranty coverage is pretty worthless. If you value your time or expect a job to be done right the first time, my recommendation is to save your money on a home warranty and simply hire your own repairmen if needed.

They're quick - you call them and that number is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and they seem to get right back to you. Now they're even doing the appointments for you which was really nice.

Then I got moved to the online. And then online, it was difficult also because they didn't have my device. I have an evaporative cooler and their list of devices had air conditioning but not evaporative coolers. So at first they couldn't provide any service. I had to respond via email. Getting through them on the phone was very difficult but once I got in contact with them, they got me to the right person and got them out right away. They got the right supplier out that day and he came. The technicians were absolutely knowledgeable and courteous plus the quality of work was very good.

We purchased the HMS Home Warranty with our home in August 2014 resting assured if we had anything major happen with our stove, microwave, dishwasher or AC Unit, we would be covered. Our AC Unit went down, they sent a technician out twice and at almost two weeks later we were given nothing in regards to fixing our unit or covering a new one. Our family was out of our home for this entire time with three small children and HMS Home Warranty called and stated they would be repairing nothing and it was not covered. The inside and outside units were "mismatched" and no one figured this out until the claim was almost at 2 weeks. We were not told the parts were mismatched at the purchase of the home and feel HMS Home Warranty should at least give back the $100 deductible that we paid.

This was a tremendous burden on our family and resulted in us paying over 4K to replace our system since HMS Home Warranty took entirely too long when filing claims and gathering "authorization" for services needing to be rendered. We will no longer be purchasing a home-warranty with HMS and hope others will be mindful of extreme circumstances when buying these warranties.

Submitting a claim was easy and my only complaint is that the people they contract out to can never come on evenings or weekends. It's always during the day when someone's got to be here, but that's hard to manage because we work. I had a Sears rep come check the dryer one time and it was fine. He couldn't fix it that day, but he came back a week later with the parts. It went good and I was satisfied with their work.

The Customer Service and general service of the company overall was absolutely horrible it was a long wait time just to here the same dribble from the unhelpful costumer service reps. No one was helpful in our claim which has lasted for two months and no one is trying to help us, luckily we have called just about every day for the past month or so but the results are minimal they are just now sending out a repairman to aid us and they expect us to pay a new deductible for the same claim we've been dealing with. When I first started calling I would ask for representatives that spoke Spanish because speaking English is hard for me however the supposed Spanish speaking representatives never answered and told me to leave a message with my name, number, and policy number. I left this message four times. They did not call back within the two months nor have they called back so I am left to assume the Spanish department at this company is something fabricated by the customer service in order to hang up on us quicker than normally. I have never dealt with such a truly horrible service in my entire life. Dealing with these issues has brought up one question in my mind though, Why do I pay these People if they aren't going to help me? I Feel as though i have been cheated by this company and they think of me as some idiot who will spend money on everything they tell me I need to pay well in return is it to much to ask that they actually service me? I am led to believe that it is indeed to much to ask of them to help me seeing as to how my problem is only now being slightly resolved after two months of a raised electrical bill because they have been too busy to come and replace one lousy piece on my A/C unit. This is a truly horrible service that offers the absolute minimum in customer care and service, and I want everyone to know of my bad experience to hopefully help people who are looking into this company for insurance purposes.

I had a home warranty provider before and I wasn't exactly happy with them so I went with TotalProtect. So far, submitting a claim to them is okay. I've only had one occasion when I was very unhappy because we had to wait over a week to get our heat back on downstairs, and it was the middle of winter. So I had to use the fireplace and go out and get wood every day, several times a day, in terrible weather and bring it indoors. And I’m 83, so it wasn't too easy and it's getting harder every day. So that wasn’t a good time and my fireplace doesn't heat up the downstairs.

I even had to go out and buy one of those heating devices and that was about as bad as the fireplace. It was pretty hard to cook because everything's electric in the kitchen. I was coming downstairs to 45 degrees and there was no heat. That was one of their projects and they made me wait over a week as they played games between the insurance and the repair companies as we had to replace the whole heating system downstairs. The big problem is they only did a half-assed job on the heat because that same unit is also the air conditioner.

Knowing most of those companies, what they do is they put in the cheapest system they can find. But it's a heating and air condition system, and I've had one that I've replaced in the attic and I did that on my own several years ago. When you don’t match them up properly and you don't get the emergency electric part of it – for the difference in the money, it's not that much between the electric emergency and the propane parts. The one that I have in the attic switches to emergency electric when the propane problem occurs, so I don't have to depend on just propane. Whereas the one that they put in was the cheap version and it just does propane. It doesn’t switch automatically and that only means that the 25-year-old air conditioning system that's part of that total package is 25 years old and it's going to go awful.

It's something to look forward to in the middle of summer. So they should’ve solved the problem at the same time and tried to make a deal with me for different options, instead of just making their own decisions and just throwing in the piece of crap. If they asked me to pay another 500 or a thousand to help defray the expenses of the part that didn't break, I would have gone along with it. But they don't give you that option. They just charge ahead like a bullet in a China store.

Their technicians were also nice, very polite, and we're happy with their work. One time, I called them again because it turned out that the product they placed in my plumbing was faulty so it was leaking again. But there were no questions asked and no problems the minute they replaced it.

The only thing that I wished they had covered are the porch light fixtures. I didn't care about paying the deductible and then I had to pay the whole thing again. But I understood that's always the possibility and I thought, "Oh, well. They fix your refrigerator one time, they fix the stove, they save me money over the years. So, it balanced out." I looked into acquiring home warranty because, at the time, I had just purchased my home and I had all brand-new appliances. I'm a single mom, therefore I was trying to be smart as far as my expenses, and I thought that that was the best way to go because if something breaks, it's very expensive to fix. I went with TotalProtect over a different warranty provider because of the price. Submitting a claim is easy when you get through their call center. The claims representatives were definitely courteous and nice, and have good customer service skills, basing on their willingness to assist. However, there's always a breakdown in communication and that is very frustrating. So it might take more than one call to have things fixed.

It took about five different visits for the technicians to fix the garbage disposal and the first company was horrible. They removed the original disposal unit that was faulty. It kept on jamming and they replaced it with a much smaller unit. And then the second unit also kept on jamming. When I called, they told me that it should have been on warranty because it was brand-new. So then I needed to deal with the installer. Then I found out that actually the unit wasn't new. So there was no warranty. They gave me something that was refurbished. The bottom line, I have a garbage disposal that I did not want and that you have to be super-careful so it doesn't jam, and it's not new. So I am not happy with them.

I've been with them and I never cancelled, and I keep on working with them. But as far as the actual experiences, they should rely on better servicing companies. Right now they're in the process of trying to fix my oven and the technician has come out three times already. They have replaced two parts but the oven is still giving me the same problem -- It just shuts off. So today, at three o'clock, we have another technician coming out. In the meantime, it's been more than two months and I cannot cook a meal in my oven because it will shut off. I've had things that were fixed just fine. I had technicians come out and fix my washer -- That was the first claim that I had. The technician came in and fixed my washer, and it lasted and that was fine. I also had somebody come to fix one of my toilets and they came in and fixed it.

So the bottom line is that they rely on a third party company to come out, which is fine. However, the third party company is just milking it. So I'm changing this part and this part, and I pay the 60 bucks. But they charge the insurance company more than $600 for those two parts and it's still not working. So I suffer as the customer and the insurance company suffers financially.

First Total Protection Gold should change their name to Cheat Swindle and Gouge.

My wife and I are elderly and we both have COPD. Our air conditioning unit quit running 4 weeks ago. We called to place a claim that same day. A week later they sent Del's Heating and Cooling to our home. The serviceman removed the cover and found a dead mouse and claimed the "mouse shorted out the control board". Total Protection Gold DECLINDE THE CLAIM. We paid two different companies to come out and both companies told us that the compressor was locked up and the control board was in a sealed enclosure and there was no damage from a mouse. I, finally, was allowed to talk to a supervisor. I finally got him to agree to send another company out to my home if I paid another $75 deductible and we agreed to stand by whatever the serviceman found, mouse damage or no mouse damage. They determined the unit quit running do to age and not because of a mouse. Total Protection Gold is dragging their feet and offering to replace my two stage Lennox air conditioning unit with one of the cheapest, lowest Consumer Reports rated single stage unit on the market and to use R22 refrigerant which will be restricted or outlawed by the EPA on January, 1, 2020 because it damages the ozone layer. If they would use the EPA approved 134A refrigerant the "A" coil in the furnace would have to be replace and would cost Total Protection Gold a few hundred dollars more. The R-22 refrigerant is being phased out so a 20 pound tank cost $400 just for the gas not including installation. I was told the gas if available after 2020 (4-1/2 years) could cost $1200 for a 20 pound tank. the current gas is about $75 for a 20 pound tank. When you call to place a claim you can only speak with a person with limited knowledge and if you ask to speak with a supervisor you get the run around. I have called numerous times a week about this claim and only was allowed to speak with a supervisor once and he gave me a direct phone number that does not go thru. I suppose he gave me the false phone number to get me off the phone. So beware of Total Protection Gold and check their approval record before signing up with this company. I plan to pay for the equipment and installation myself and then hire a lawyer to reclaim my costs. I've paid about $600 a year for several years to get treated like an idiot. The policy states Total Protection Gold will replace the covered system or appliance with a new one of comparable features, based on our research. So they determine what they think is equal.

This changed 3 days later and of course I took care of it myself. Additionally, it turns out that incorrect parts were ordered but this was only determined when the service company arrived to try and do the installation. I continue to wait for the AC/Heat Pump to be replace with the summer heat sometimes rising above 103.

Our air condition guy was professional, did a real good job. I talked to my buddy who's an air conditioning guy down the road. He said he would've done the same thing. Good service.

It was pretty easy to submit claims but I had an issue with one guy that they sent out from Sears. He spent three hours just on his computer and talking on the phone, without doing anything, except for ordering parts. I told him, "How come you can't just take the serial numbers and the model number down and go back to your office and look all the parts up and order them? Because I got things to do, I can't just sit around." He said, "I can't do that. I got to clear each item before I look into another one." I said that's ridiculous. Then he didn't come back out and the next time he fixed the range and fixed the dishwasher because he said it was installed wrong. I said, "Why didn't you say that the first time?" Then he took the parts and everything back with him.

Then HMS called me and I said, "He says it's wrong but it's not. I've seen a lot of them installed like that." He replied, "Well, you can just buy a new one." I answered, "I'm not buying a new one. Get somebody else and the other parts back out here again." So that's what he did. He found the other guy down the street and we told him the same thing. He said, "They install them like that all the time. There's nothing wrong with it." So he ordered the parts, came out and fixed it right away. And then they had some other guy out to fix the refrigerator and did a great job. Another thing I didn't like about HMS is that they want $100 for each room they go to. Why can't they choose one guy out to do everything one time for $100? But other than that, they were really great.

We thought about the age of some of our appliances and figured that a home warranty is an easier way to put away aside some money that can be used later on. We went with TotalProtect and over the period of time, we submitted three or four claims. Two of them were for the same thing about a year apart, but we've never had an issue. And the people we talk to are very, very friendly and know exactly who to contact to provide the service. I cant' say enough about them. Anyone that has been sent by TotalProtect, for the most part, have been quality people. They do the job, they know what they're doing and the job's done fairly quick. We live in a rural area but someone is usually out here after the call or within a week of that.

The most recent claim we had for our Samsung dishwasher. It had been repaired a year ago, and the same thing occurred. A gentleman from Sears came and he was very polite and in uniform. He spread out a blanket so the floor wouldn't be scratched; he also explained everything that he was doing, what he had found, and what needed to be done (which was some parts being ordered). It took about a week or so for the parts to get here and a couple of days after that, he was back. He finished the repair and it worked perfectly. Beyond that, this also guy went ahead and cleaned the stainless steel part of the dishwasher and refrigerator (even if the 2nd one was not part of the deal). He was a great guy.

I submitted a warranty claim for our air conditioner 18 days ago and they are still dragging this out with no relief in sight. HMS sent HVAC company #1 which diagnosed the problem. Because HMS wanted to order their own parts to save money, HVAC company #1 would not repair because they can't warranty the work using parts provided to them. It took a week of constant calls to HMS to get them to assign HVAC company #2 which diagnosed the same problem. I have been calling for days to get an answer on when our AC will be repaired. I'm on hold an hour each time.

After the service proposal was emailed to HMS 4 times, they continued to say they hadn't received it. Finally, today I talked with someone at HMS who actually confirmed receiving the service proposal. She said it will take 24-48 hours for them to decide what to do. What to do about what? HMS Home Warranty is perfect. I love it! The only thing is I just called them a month ago. I had a problem with ac. And the guy came and repaired it. He was from a company named Cooling Comfort. He did a very good job, but he was not really a friendly guy. But the other one I called for plumbing was very nice. He did a very good job. But in general, I am happy. And I'm going to renew my contract. The only complaint I have is the first time they charged me $456, now they're asking for $556; $100 more. But the guy told me that was the first time for a new buyer. They have that rate then if I renew, that's going to be a little more expensive. But I don't mind.

My AC has been out for over three weeks. We filed a claim when it first went out and the next day received a phone # for a technician. After calling him and leaving a message, it took another day for him to contact me. He stated he was too busy and would not get to me for a week. He then asked me to describe the problem and after doing so, he told me to go to an appliance store here in Richmond (actually gave me the name of who to talk with) and pick up a "Hard Start" device and gave me instructions on how to install it. I installed it on the unit to no avail and wasted $20. He did not come out for over a week and then it was his son that showed up and was on the phone with his dad the whole time he was attampting to troubleshoot. He then found wires that had been spliced under the house and stated that this is causing no control voltage. He charged me the $75 and left without explaining what was next, he only stated that the warranty company would call me. After calling the technician for almost 2 weeks, Total Protect finally called and stated that the repairs are not covered. The only people who have worked on this unit was another representative that Total Protect sent out two years ago when we had an issue. But now Total Protect calls me and states they won't cover the repairs needed (which are still unknown) because ot the wires. I asked them to look up my account and see who did the repairs and the representative stated that it did not matter because they could not say that the last person did it. I then asked how they could state that I did it, and she replied that it did not matter because the wires were cut and not covered under warranty. So, I guess they will look for any excuse not to pay out the larger claims and rely on the smaller claims to keep up their ratings. I will never pay another dime to these people, it is nothing but a scam.

It hasn't been very good with HMS - I'm wondering maybe I spent money on an insurance that wasn't really there. It was hard to get a hold of anybody, they kept passing me off to different people. Nobody knew what to do. Something about their computers were down or something - they wouldn't do it by hand. I talked to five or six different people until they finally called me back. It's gotten me wondering if maybe it was a fraud or something. It's been two or three weeks now and I am still waiting.

The first time was little faster. The second time took a little longer because the contact person that they gave me didn't service our area so they have to do research but I was satisfied overall. The claims representative was very friendly and helpful. The air condition guy was very friendly and knowledgeable. The other technicians didn't say much but they were nice. They told me what was going on and he explained what the issue was. It was something that wasn't covered under warranty and he told me I needed to probably change. Their quality of work is good and the unit is still working.

Once the week past and they came out, I was given a call from Total Protect and they told me The tech OF COURSE found ONLY issues that are not covered under the warranty. The rep that called was quick to let me know everything was was not covered on ACs and could care less how upset I was at the findings. I even told him I was going write this review and he said ok that's fine. Should have listened to the others who had bad reviews. Waste of TIME and MONEY.

My husband passed away so I'm a single mom on a limited budget. I thought a home warranty would be a good way to possibly defray some large repair costs so I got TotalProtect. I've had no issues with them at all other than the long wait times when I do have to call them. Their website does not work to place the claim. But other than that, they have been good and cooperative.

I did have one issue with one of the companies they authorized to do work, though. One time my air conditioning wasn't working and TotalProtect authorized a company to come. They came, got it running, but within a week it was not running again. TotalProtect did a re-call and the company set up an appointment but did not show up. I kept trying to call them back - they said they'd come the next day but they didn't. So I called TotalProtect and they transferred the claim to another company to do the repairs.

HMS was suggested to us by the real estate company where we purchase our town home. Claim submission is an extremely easy process with them, especially compared to the warranty provider at our previous home. My husband spoke with the claims person at HMS - he just answered a couple of questions and basically it was very simple. We then got a confirmation on an email; in fact, they had already told us that we could call a contractor of our choice. The electrician who came was really good, he seemed very knowledgeable and thorough. We described what we thought was happening and he found out what the real problem was.

When we first bought our house 21 years ago, the owner had the insurance on it through HMS. We have renewed it ever since. Claims submission is very easy - just call in, let them know what's wrong, and they have a provider right there to give you a call. (Sometimes they do ask you to call them or they'll call when they couldn't get someone out quick enough.) Their reps try to do all they can and I haven't had any problems with them, except this last time when they sent a letter in error - it wasn't time for ours to be renewed but they said they weren't going to renew it. But eventually they sent something right away for us and it was settled.

Their providers have been fairly well but I've also had a bad provider experience. The 2nd guy who came to put in our furnace said that the first guy had wired it wrong. But I know that some companies are bad mouthing others, so I took it with a grain of salt since the furnace ran for a while (not sure for how long though). Nevertheless, I was very satisfied with the last guy who came out and fixed our furnace and I've actually recommend HMS to everybody.

HMS has been pretty good for most of the things I've called for. However, I disagree with the deductible. I have a number of things repaired here and I'm paying almost a hundred dollars deductible for almost everyone who came out and I think that's a little bit too much. Even for minor things such as the garage door that was not working and I knew exactly what was wrong with it but I didn't want to fix it myself because I wasn't aware of the electrical power. The technician just cut a wire and that was a little bit fast paced. For something as quick as that I had to pay a hundred dollars. They have no clear guidelines in terms of how much money that's going to be coming out of your pocket once you call somebody out. They need to just spell it out because it would be much better.

On the other hand, whenever I call, somebody would be out within a reasonable period of time except one time when the technician’s company was not based in Delaware so that took a while. I'm now waiting for my air conditioner which is about to go. I'm not sure exactly what it is but I think they've already approved the part for it and I already called them to find out if they're coming to install it. Additionally, the guy that fixed my doorbell went above and beyond and that satisfied me. I'm sure that the warranty would be out soon and I would have to renew it if I decide to do so.

5 star review are bogus. I rate it minus 10. Warranty came with purchase of house. Small items under or near deductible, no problem. Big ticket items, they will find a way to decline it. Some people nice, most were snotty because of my persistent calling. AC worked fine in 2014. 1st use in 2015, not working. Unit had never been serviced or opened. HMS called out tech who found fan motor burned out. Replaced fan motor. Still didn't work. Tech said when fan motor failed it caused compressor to overheat causing the lines to pop off. However when he reported to HMS, his paperwork stated the lines were disconnected. All HMS needed to deny the claim as they stated the unit had been improperly serviced. BS, it was never serviced since I purchased this stupid "no pay" warranty. Spent $3,200 my money to replace unit.

Been fighting with these people for 6 weeks to reimburse me. Not going to happen. One claims manager was downright snotty and told me it was a pre-existing condition prior to my purchasing home and warranty. Why the hell buy the warranty if they have no intention of covering big ticket items. I asked to speak with Doug Stein, President, no way. Asked to speak with head of Claims, no way. All of these people are trained to decline claims first, thinking people will accept it. Most idiots do, not me. I will pursue this vehemently because it is flat wrong. When I canceled the warranty they refused to refund it all. I am considering a class action and definitely more than small claims court. As I told the last person I talked to yesterday, I promise when this is over Doug Stein will get with these lower personnel and want to know why in the hell didn't you settle this valid claim? It's going to cost them far more than $3,200. This is bogus and unnecessary.

Of course TP did not call me to follow-up, so I called to inquire about the status and the nice rep informed me that my ductwork was not covered. When I questioned why not, she said only the ductwork from the unit is covered. The ductwork is coming from the unit so I do not understand how my claim can be denied? Well, you are losing a customer. I have signed up with Choice Home Warranty for a lower service call fee and they indicate they cover ductwork for airflow and will allow you to replace your applicances with the same brand. TP wants to tell you the brand you can replace with in the case of the claim I filed when my refrigerator went out and I had to pay out of pocket to replace.
