Had to replace a ceiling fan and Total promised to rebate us $95 if we bought the fan/light and emailed the invoice to them. I receive a confirmation email that they had received this from me and to wait 4-6 weeks for them to handle it. I did and called. They told me they had no records of receiving an email. I told them their system verified that they HAD received it. Their solution was to email it again and wait ANOTHER 4-6 weeks for them to do something. Not holding my breath on that happening.

Some of our experience with HMS were good and some were bad. Their sales reps and technicians were very good and friendly, but it's the claims that caused the hits and misses. Some of the things are not covered and one time, we had trouble getting somebody to come fix our Sub-Zero fridge because HMS couldn't find somebody who would come out to our house in the country.

We chose TotalProtect Home Warranty because it was comparable in price to what we had before. We left the other one because it seemed their prices keep creeping up. TotalProtect doesn't do that because then we'd be shopping again. The claim submission was smooth and I've never had a problem with the claims rep. I'm satisfied with the technician.

However we've had continuing problems with an air conditioning unit. The repairs' just putting a bandaid on the situation all the time but it's not efficient. It needs to be changed. By the time we spend all these $75 on having it worked on, might as well just buy one. It's not taking care of the problems. When there's trouble with major appliances, there's always room for fixing it and it's got a lot more years to go. But people get home warranties for that reason so that they can have it baby sat for a while and kept running for a bit. But at some point... it’s not a good thing.

We had one incident when we weren’t satisfied with HMS. We called them about our stove when the pilot lights wouldn't work when we put them on and the tech they sent out had to take the whole stove out because none of them would light up. He took it home and it was five days before he finally brought it back. When he did, he says, “Okay, they should all work now,” and they still didn't work.

He said, “Well, if you just tap it with a thing, it clears the stuff out and it will turn on then.” And I thought that’s ridiculous, you shouldn't have to tap a pilot light with a wrench or a screwdriver so that it lights automatically. To this day, I have only one burner that lights. The other three I have to use a match on or lighter to use. I'm not going to call them again about the same problem because then we have to pay for the deductible. Thankfully, the rest of the technicians that we had from refrigerator and everything else are great.

Its been weeks in florida summer with no air conditioner as your company decided how to handle the bad compressor. After weeks of deliberation, you offered me $900 to go away. I refused and ask you fix the air conditioning as promised.

Every day, more excuses, its obvious it will be fixed sometime in the winter. Its ok, if the elderly in the house dies, I am sure there must be liability.

Very bad. One little warrantee fix and weeks of hoping we would get someone else to fix it.

    Tsk tsk.

I've had no problems in submitting my claims, and the reps have been friendly and courteous. The techs that HMS sent out were fine except for the guy that took care of my refrigerator when it stopped working. When he came out, the refrigerator was working again, and he said, “Well, there’s nothing I can do because it’s working.” He told me that I can call him up if anything happens in the next days. And I was like, “No, it don’t work that way.” The refrigerator had the same thing happen before and they had to replace the motherboard. So when I told him that, he went ahead and replaced the motherboard. Initially, he was just going to leave and I didn’t appreciate that. But after the repair, my refrigerator is working and so far, so good.

I had a dryer issue with the company that TotalProtect was sending out. They came out and never did come back. So I was back and forth calling them about it. It took me about a month to get the dryer fixed. But after that, I had a refrigerator problem and they responded to it promptly. So besides that problem with the company which I don't think they're still using anymore, things has been fine.

I've been a member of the TotalProtect program for many years and I've had a good experience with them. A few things were not covered by other warranty home providers like if my garbage disposal goes wrong, so I chose to have TotalProtect. When submitting a claim, I've had very good experience. I call them right away and I receive a call who will be coming to see us. Once they call, they are on time and it was very quick. I'm totally satisfied with them because whoever answers the phone, they know what they are doing and they give me the claim number. When the other company calls or I call them, they already have the information. It's very fast, quick and the quality of work is up to the mark.

We were retiring and thought that having a home warranty would be a good way to set up a budget for repairs. We knew our top number for the year except with the deductible. For 12 years that we've been with TotalProtect, we haven't had a problem about any claim that we've submitted except for the last claim. I either called or wrote when we had a problem with the refrigerator and the guy was out here for a long time and ended up saying that the part was bad, so he ordered the part. When it came in two days later, he put it in and found out that a wire in the back was broken so he fixed that. There was nothing else wrong in the first place and so I thought he screwed up and then took advantage of TotalProtect because he charged full price. But the quality of repairs for most of the time that we've had somebody, with very few exceptions, has been good. We have recommended TotalProtect.

I got it because I knew that I would have things that would need repairs, and it was just much easier to pay it on a monthly basis. Filing a claim was efficient. I had very minimum contact with their claims representative, but they took time to listen. After that, they gave me my options and set up an appointment. They had good customer service. Their technician was also very efficient and professional. In general, I was satisfied and I feel what they did for me was adequate.

I live in Leavenworth. WA, which is over a huge rage of mountains with only two mountain passes between us and Seattle, WA,(which is about 150 miles away) and all other coastal communities. Fortunately I live in a fairly new home, built in 2007. When my first Home Warranty ran out I picked Total Protect in 2012 to replace it. They had a reasonable rate, and a good reputation. I continued with them until I cancelled our contract in August of 2015. Why, because they actually could not service this area. I lost my AC during a heat wave of over 100 degrees. I am 85 years old, and the heat was unhealthy to say the least. When I called their service department I was told they had a serviceman in Everett, WA (over 100 miles away), and he would get to me within a week! This was unacceptable. So, I called a local serviceman, that installed my unit, and had him come out. I asked if he'd call Total Protect, and he replied that his company would not deal with them, & you probably won't find a company on this side of the mountain who would. I was frustrated, so I called Total Protect & asked what I had to do to get my AC unit repaired. They replied that I had to either use the repairman they would send out, or pay for it myself. So I did, and the final cost was over seven thousand dollars. Why because, i chose (as a homeowner) to get a new unit at $7,000 with a TEN YEAR warranty, over a $3,000 repair with a one year warranty! Knowing that Total Protect really didn't cover me! My beef with Total Protect, is they issued a policy that they should have known they couldn't provide reasonable service too. Other companies admitted, when I called, that they didn't cover Chelan County, WA. Total Protect said they could. Oh, they can, if they can find someone on their list, who will drive over the mountain. Than their are times when the Pass is closed, and no one can get over it! My new company not only can respond, they gave me a list of local companies, they have contracts, who will immediately respond to my needs. I'm upset that I paid them for several years, not knowing that I really wasn't covered. Oh, they admit that I never filed a claim, I couldn't, because under the rules of the contract, you MUST get their approval first, & get a claim number, before a claim will be accepted. I sent the big on right to their CAO, who didn't even take the time to reply. Even than, I was only asking for the $3,000 estimate repair bill, & not the actual cost of replacing the unit. For the record, :"I am disappointed that Total Protect lied to me, & took my money for three years, knowing they could not cover my area for service, in a reasonable length of time. My warning to others, is to make sure the company you pick, can give you the names of some of your local service facilities, before you contract with them."

We've only had a few claims in the whole time we've had TotalProtect but everything's worked fine. And they have a 24 hour turnaround time on emergencies. But when we had our AC issue, it was quirky that the guy who came out had to come back because it was something different. When he was here, the AC was working and the issue wasn't showing, so he left. But when I got home, it wasn't working again so we called TotalProtect back and they got someone else on it. They found out that it was the motor and they came back out within another 24-hour time period. The technician was here for a few hours but got it all fixed and working. Cost-wise, it seemed a better coverage than having one warranty for each of my appliances independently. It was easier to just have one warranty for the whole house.

My house AC was not cooling so I called Total Protect and they referred me to some AC technician (no name technician working out of his F-150 with no name on it) which I called. He inspected my attic unit and reported my Condenser Coil had 3 Freon leaks which 2 were on rusted/corrode parts. (which was incorrect due to pictures that were taken and attached to this review on a second inspection that I paid for). He told me straight out that the company would not cover RUST/Corrosion and that he would have to submit to Total Protect for approval TO SEE if the repair will be done. I asked him why wouldn't they fix it... and he mention that the condenser coil HOUSING was rusted on some areas and that they don't cover RUST. I said that it didn't make since because the old condenser coil housings were made out of steel/metal and that being exposed to the continuous humidity from normal condensation (wear and tear) and leaking freon it would eventually form corrosion on the metal/steel parts. Well... Long story short, my claim was denied. I spoke with a supervisor and she told me straight out the same thing and I explained to her that I've been 4 years with Total Protect and also explained that the leaks were at the coil not where the rust was, and had pictures to prove it but still denied. I ask to dispute and she said it could take 4 - 6 weeks for this. How am I suppose to be with out AC for 4 - 6 week under 100 F weather here in Texas. So I told her that I wanted to cancel my service and she didn't care one bit, just told me go ahead.... So I paid $1,400 to replace the condenser coil(with a new Aluminum condenser coil) on my side with my technician so my kids and I would have a livable home and found me other home warranty companies that do cover normal wear and tear and rust and corrosion. I will actually have to call and cancel at the end of the month since Total Protect had already charged my credit card for the month.
I took a lot of pictures of the condenser coil that was replaced and even where the leaks occurred , which are very visible with the naked eye, just in case I decided to dispute this claim, but thinking things over I couldn't wait 4-6 weeks to get this fix due to the heat and humidity inside my house. I will hold on to the picture to see if they even care of calling me for them so they can see for them selves that what their technician reported was incorrect. The technician that I hired called this normal wear and tear and that the 2-3 leaks were ALL on the coil and the pictures prove this since the shinny oil/freon leak is very visible on th pictures and no leaks the corrode parts. This particular company will do whatever it takes not to cover expensive repairs PEROID.

I recommend researching around other home warranty companies cheaper and with more coverage and better ratings.

The last claim we had with HMS for our air conditioner has been open for two months and still not closed. The company that they've gone through was not supporting the paperwork. I called them yesterday to see if they had filed the paperwork from a month ago when they came out to measure what they needed to replace. The lady said she tried to call HMS three times and they weren't answering. I called HMS and got right through so the contractor was lying on top of everything. They came out though and replaced the AC after we've had it repaired four times through HMS but there's another part that they have to replace so it's still not working. I'm having $500 electric bills because of it.

My problem with HMS is they're the ones that picked and support this company. I've dealt with them before when we had problems with the first unit when we first moved in and it's always been the same thing with the company. HMS is not following through with making sure it's getting done. The guy who is coming out has been fine but I'm generally pissed off.

I had two people come out on my air conditioner and it's still not working properly. One of them (he works for an air conditioner company) came out and supposedly fixed my air conditioner. It didn't work, it's still doing what it was doing.

The last claim I submitted to HMS Home Warranty was fine, but before that I was close to taking them all to court. They didn’t do what they were supposed to do and nothing happened the way it was supposed to happen. It may have been the fact that the way their documents are written were misleading and so it ended up with having their people try to do arbitration with me, and we finally got it solved, but it took forever to get it done and I had to pay double fee, $65 twice or three times but things were not being completed and I still have a bad taste in my mouth about the company. Their quality of work was badly done and a newborn child could’ve done better. The companies that they used were worthless.

However the last time when they started using good companies such as Sears-Roebuck repair services and their contractors, things changed considerably and that helped a lot by using quality services. A young man who lives down in Fellsmere, Florida down about 30 miles from us handled me very well. He was a very nice young man and he knew what he was doing and he had very good people skills, so a lot of the quality work has to do with changing who they send to do work. I am on a reasonably level terms with them at this point, so it’s good and I’d recommend them right now. Five months ago however, I would’ve never recommended them to anyone.

On 07.13.15 I received a call from ETC advising that their tech called in and they only have one tech. ETC contacted Total Protect to advise the same and a rep from Total Protect called me with their Best theyve Got alternate company, Back 2 Basic HVAC. The tech showed up at 1:30 p.m., checked the AC, added Freon and left after paying the $75.00 fee. 10 minutes later the AC froze up again, I called Back 2 Basic HVAC back and the tech came back out. After 10 minutes outside he advised the condenser was bad and the unit would need replacing. He advised he would send a quote to Total Protect and Total Protect would contact me. The temperatures were 90-95 degrees with a heat index of 100 to 105 degrees that week and I had purchased a stationary AC to cool the living room in my townhome. After a couple of days I contacted an HVAC company to come out and look at the AC and provide a recommendation. They assessed that the unit would need replacing and provided me with a quote of $4000.00 to replace the entire system. I advised them to replace it. After a week went by I contacted Total Protect to find out what was going on with my claim since no ever contacted me. I advised them of what happened with their service techs, the fact that no one ever contacted me from Total Protect and that their service was unacceptable after being a loyal customer for 12 years. All I heard was how sorry they were that no one ever contacted me they wanted to send out the tech who didnt complete the first report to look at the AC againReally??? I advised that I had already replaced the unit and wanted to know if Total Protect would refund any part of my money I had to put out of pocket due to their negligence. I was advised that they could review what was done but since their tech never submitted his findings they had little to go on, but it would be worth a try. I cancelled my policy with them after 12 years. In a 12 year period I may have called them twice prior to this. I wouldnt recommend Total Protect to anyone, they are great if you dont need them, but when you do, not so much.

I have a house and I was paying out quite a bit of money for repairs every month. So, I researched online the cheapest way to make home repairs and found TotalProtect. I love their service. Every time I called them, their rep were very friendly, courteous, helpful, and prompt. They are concerned towards whatever problems I've had. They understand that even a minor problem can be a big thing. That's one of the big reason that I've stayed with them. Also, the repair people they sent out were very professional, knowledgeable and always on time. They always explained everything that they needed to do and the reason behind it. They made suggestions on how it couldn't happen again or something that might make it easier for everybody.

So, even though the last service I had with them was last winter and even if I don't have anything, I am going to stay with TotalProtect. With TotalProtect, I have a peace of mind knowing that couple of years down the road, I might going to have any major expense to come out. I also don't have to worry about trying to find a professional to come out and take care of a problem for me. They do all of that. However, I wish it was a little cheaper but it's still good for what they do. So, I'm going to stay with TotalProtect as long as they'll have me. I have also recommended TotalProtect to a friend. In fact, my girlfriend signed up and about 3 months later, her air conditioning unit went out, and they came out there a couple of days later and fixed it.

My wife called to file a claim for the garage door. She explained that the tension spring was broken and the agent referred her to A1 Doors. A1 stated part not covered then collected $100 deductible. HMS agent should have told my wife that this was NOT a covered repair. Want our $100 refunded. Was told they would review the tape and respond within 24-48 hrs. That never happened. 9 days later I contacted them again to follow up and was given the exact same line... We'll see if anything happens this time. Very poor performance so far... If no resolution, BBB to follow...

The technicians sent by HMS to our home were okay. The first time we had to go through with them had to do with my washing machine. The fellow that came did not come the day he was supposed to come. I called HMS and they got a hold of him right away. The story was that he had gotten us confused with another customer, which could have happened. He said he would be there the next day without fail. The very next day, I guess somebody that works with him called to see if they could reschedule the appointment and rearrange it. I said " Absolutely not. You all were supposed to be here the previous day. Whoever the repair person was, he was assured me that they would be here." So they did.

However, with that particular claim, we had to wait for a particular part that never really came. We probably went close to a month without having a washing machine. It was not an American made washing machine and so I can understand having difficulty getting the part. But once I called the rep they called me afterward. They couldn't have been any nicer. The rep I talked to on a Thursday assured me they were looking for the part. She said "Give me until the weekend and I will call you. I will definitely call you Monday" which she did. She said they couldn't find the part so she would get the authorization for us to get a new washer, and they paid for a new washing machine for us.

We had another claim and the fellow that came out was very nice. He corrected the problem. We had some Freon put in our upstairs air conditioner and I was pleased with the outcome. The second case was just funny because the technician who came asked me to go upstairs to turn the air conditioner on and off. I thought it was funny because some people would not have the homeowner to do that. He probably needed to have somebody to do it. It was a very hot day so I didn't mind doing that and the outcome was also good.

We've had really good luck with these warranty companies every time we've had to call them. But I am very much aware that sometimes the technicians they get are sometimes people or companies that are trying to build their business. So you may not have the most prominent company in the area doing the work, but that doesn't mean they are not qualified.

My A/C went out and I called HMS. They assigned a contractor who came out and said the previous repairer put in wrong parts and we had to get it assigned back to him and the whole A/C unit had to be changed. Strange since the previous repair was 2 years prior and the unit was working fine. The previous contractor came out and fixed it. However, after the "fix" the unit was vibrating to the point it was cracking the housing.

I called in again and was assigned a different contractor. This guy wouldn't make an appointment and would just keep saying, "I'll come out tomorrow." After over a week of this I called back and was reassigned back to the previous contractor. After a month I am told he is finally ordering the parts and I have to pay for the housing which is not covered. I have been without A/C almost all summer. Extremely frustrating. Time limits need to be set on repair work or not get paid.

I had a home warranty before but it wasn't great. Every time I'd call them and the person came out, anything I wanted them to do was costing me extra money. The fee at that time was $50 but then there was always extra, so I dropped them and then I saw an advertisement of TotalProtect in my mortgage statement, and I decided to try them because they were going to include that in my mortgage, so I wouldn't have to worry about paying it every month because it will just come out automatically when I pay my mortgage. Submitting a claim with TotalProtect has been really good, but right now I'm having a problem with the vendors. I'm having air conditioner issues and I can't reach the people on the two different places that they've given me.

They haven't called me and I really need my air conditioning fixed, so I've been calling the people all day but it keeps saying their mailbox is full, and this is the second vendor that they've given me. It's the fault of the company that I'm trying to reach. When I call and tell them, they try to get me another company but unfortunately, I can’t get through the other company that they gave me either. The claims representatives at TotalProtect were great and I like talking to them. They were sympathetic to my needs and issues, and were sorry it happened to me. Last year, a technician came out for my air conditioner right away and I was really pleased. He fixed it and it was working well. This time however, I think there’s something else going on with it and my unit is still hanging around. I would definitely recommend TotalProtect to anyone.

When we first moved here, we had another warranty service. I started looking online and saw TotalProtect, and then I saw TotalProtect Gold which I liked because it has the four quarterly visits. I liked the way their programs are setup. If the air conditioner or one of my appliances goes bad, I'm only responsible for $60 if it has to be replaced. Lately, when we have air conditioner problems, the company was from my hometown, Akron, which is good, they have been outstanding. The last several times, I've had outstanding work. The guys know what they're doing.

When I call and they come out, everybody's helpful. After they ask the information they need, they give me a phone number and say that either they'll contact me or I have to call them which is easier. Some of the warranty services, like the heating/air conditioner, they're only open until about 4:30. So the next morning that we call, they'll call me back the next morning and give me a time when they can come out to the house. This last time, because of the weather being so weird this year due to the high volume of heat we had here, they told me I was going to have to wait a minimum of three days. The representative said if she gets one soon, she would call me back. But instead of three days, it was just a day.

I liked their service compared to the other ones. Most of the other ones don't have the quarterly visit. If you find something and let them know, you can get it taken care of now or within a couple of weeks, depending if you're ready to have it done. I like that it is a preventative service and I wish they all had the quarterly visit which they don't always do.

We bought a brand new house in 2001 and we've lived here for 14 years. We had all brand new appliances and heat pump, although the furniture wasn't all brand new. It's a good idea to have a home warranty if you've got a decent house, which we have. We've got a nice house and even though it's 14 years old now, for us it's like new because we're old people. So we decided to acquire TotalProtect home warranty. The price didn't sound that bad, although it was a little high. But I said, "If something goes bad, we're going to be glad we did."

I've had three claims: One on my air conditioner, one on my washing machine, and one on the garbage disposal. Those are the only three claims that I've had to pay a $75 co-pay. And then, the last time I had one of those annual inspections on my appliances, they discovered that I had a bad thermostat in the oven on our Whirlpool range. That's what I'm trying to get a settlement on now, and I haven't got it yet. I have replaced the range and they told me they're going to pay me a certain amount for replacing it. I wasn't real happy with that because the replacement was not as good a quality range as what we originally had. According to the owner's manual, the one we were told that we had to take as a replacement didn't have warmer burner and it didn't have two or three other features that our old range had.

I called the second time regarding this about a month ago. I was told that we had a certain model of GE range before and Whirlpool Gold is the one that we have in our kitchen now. The lady that I spoke with said we're allowed $532 or $534 to replace it and we could get what we wanted. So we went to Famous Tate, an appliance store right here in Brandon, Florida. My wife happens to know the salesman there real well. He looked at what we had and they had a special deal, a Fourth of July sale that was still on even though it was a week past. We bought this on the 13th of July and got it delivered on the 15th. So we've had it here now for three or four weeks.

We were told when we emailed the receipt, that it would take up to six weeks to get the things settled and paid for. We went ahead and bought it and paid for it ourselves since we were told they'd allow us some amount for a replacement range. The one we got is almost exactly the one that we replaced, only it's a GE instead of a Whirlpool, and it was actually on sale right then so we got it for $695 although its retail price is a couple of $300 more. TotalProtect did not do quite what they said they were going to as far as replacing our stove with an equivalent unit. But the other three times that I paid the $75 co-pay, they repaired something, and every time, it came out perfect, so I'm not totally unhappy with the company.

I have recommended TotalProtect to several people, in fact, because I thought everything was fine and that it's a good idea to have this kind of protection. According to the contract, there's a maximum limit of $50,000 coverage that you're allowed in your lifetime, but at my age I might not use that much. I would recommend them because I noticed several other companies have this kind of coverage policies but I haven't seen another one that compared to it really, and that's in their favor, and they'd given me good service every time I've called. My problem is remembering to call for my annual service check-up when I need it. At the end of this month, I'll be eligible for another one and I'll probably have the electrical done if I'm eligible for that.

Having a home warranty would be cheaper and more convenient than paying out of pocket so I decided to get one. I went with TotalProtect and their claims reps are nice, friendly, very professional, and knew what they were doing. However, one of my claims was and still is a nightmare because of their vendor, A-Total Plumbing. To start with there was something wrong with the plumber that they sent because he told me he had anger issues and he was really weird. I was so scared of him.

What happened was I had a PRV go on me and this plumber from A-Total could've went to the Home Depot or a plumbing supply company and got that PRV, but he left that situation for five days. I even called TotalProtect to call A-Total to see if they would come out and fix the situation. The latter refused, saying they were waiting for a part. When they finally installed that PRV, I called another plumber (Donald) that I paid for myself to come down and check it. He told me it was a cheap valve, about $90, when a good valve costs $300. He gave me a written document and I sent it the vendor company. I will still have Donald come and change out the valve to a good one. This issue is still ongoing.

Another issue with A-Total was with our tub and shower valve. They changed out the part but there's a little pocket they left off apart of the valve. So I had to call another plumbing company. They had to put that plastic valve back on the shower and tub valve and reinstall it. A-Total messed everything up. I didn't dare use the water heater because I was afraid it was damaged (they left it for five days, too), so I ended up spending $700 changing out the water heater from Lowe's, who did the installation as well. Now, I have a beautiful hot water heater and I don't have to worry about being blown to bits.

A-Total customer service is lousy and their work is sloppy, too. They’re sharing other people’s information. For instance, they sent me some paperwork with a page that has another person's information on it, and on the back side, they had copies of my receipts. I would never recommend A-Total to anybody and if you check about them on Better Business Bureau, they have lots negative complaints. I even called TotalProtect and told them not to send A-Total to my house anymore because if they do, I'll have them arrested. TotalProtect should get rid of them.

On the other hand, the claim where Sears fixed my refrigerator was a beautiful experience. They gave me a printout and broke everything down on it - the cost and labor. They also did a wonderful job on the air conditioning issue that I had. I love Sears. So TotalProtect had a bad vendor but based on overall experience I would still recommend them.

I have not received a call back from a supervisor, my washing machine is still broken, and I have no idea of when the problem will be resolved. A week in to my first repair request and no clear timeline of when or who is going to fix my washing machine. I have a Maytag Washing Machine so it is not some kind of exotic washing machine. I would just like to know when my appliance will be fixed and no one at total protect can tell me that. They can not even find a provider in the Austin, TX area that can service my appliance. Very disappointed in their service efforts and protocols. Think twice before buying this product.

When we purchased our new home the previous owners provided us with a warranty through HMS Home Warranty. It has proven to have been a huge waste of money. At the beginning of summer we turned our air conditioner on for the first time and it was not working properly. HMS set up a company to come out to evaluate and they never showed up or called. I contacted the company directly the following day and they told me that I would have to pay $175 out of pocket over my deductible because it was now Friday and they charge a weekend rate. I called HMS to get a different company and the earliest they could have someone come out was Tuesday of the following week.

After multiple phone calls they upgraded my claim to emergency service and authorized a company of my choice to come out. They just had to call themselves to get authorization, and of course when they called they were denied. Several more hours on the phone and even longer waiting for a non-existent supervisor to call me back and I still had no AC. 3 months later I'm still disputing the claim. Phone calls and emails go unreturned and customer service provides incorrect information. I have wasted so much time, energy, and money. I would avoid this company.

The first time we dealt with a technician was for the air conditioner. The first person who came out was here quick and told me he'd get back with me. The next thing I know, I'm getting a call from TotalProtect telling me that the contractor they sent couldn't fix my problem. They had to get someone else to fix it. When those people came they were very professional and got the job done. About the same time I had to call out for my water heater that started acting up. I also had no problem with the contractor they sent, he diagnosed the problem and got it done. The one thing I did not like though is when I got charged for someone to come out and then they told me that someone else needed to come out to fix the problem. But other than that, everything else went well.

Since being repaired, the microwave has been making a strange noise, but not all the time. Overall, my experience with them is not perfect, but it's not bad.

If something broke, there would be a $125 deductible that I would pay. Now, everytime I call, it's $70 fee for them to come out to the house. They lied with that. In addition, if the first company couldn't do the work and they had to send somebody else, they want to charge me another $70 fee even if it is for the same piece of appliance. I feel like I'm being ripped off by them. I'm thinking if I am going to renew when the contract comes to due.

When I made the clain and sechuled an appointment witht he service provider they referred me to, they let me know a week later, that they did not service my area. I called Total Protect back to get a different service provider, and the agent assigned my claim to the same company again. I called back to get another company, and they said there was no one in my area and they would have to send my claim to dispatch. Dispatch could not find anyone, so I was told to find my own repair person, and upon authorization they could meake the repairs. I live 10 minutes from Memphis TN, but was told companies there couldnt do the repairs unless they were liscensed in Arkansas. So I found the only company in the Marion area that was liscensed and insured, and they told they could do the repairs, however Total Protect would not approve their rates. If Total Protect cant find anyone in the area to do the work, it shouldnt matter what the rates are. I pay my premium on time monthly through my mortgage company, so should not have to wat 2 + weeks to have my air conditioner repaired. The customer service representatives would not allow me to speak with a manager after several request. I finally spoke with a man who says he was a supervisor today August 5, 2015, and explained to him that I'd been waiting over 2 weeks (staying at hotels and with friends) ,and he basically told me I'd have to continue to wait on authorizations to compare rates and find someone cheaper. He was very rude, nonchalant, and showed no empathy toward my situation. I will be finding another warranty company and speaking with an attorney.

So far, the contractors that HMS sent out to my home have been good, but last summer, when my air conditioning unit went out, there were a couple of contractors that I would probably have someone else come next time. HMS told me a certain brand would be put in, and that also the thermostat needed to be replaced, and all would be taken care of when they brought the unit out. But the contractor never brought the thermostat and the one they brought was a subsidiary of the brand I was going to get, and I expected to get the brand name, not one of their lesser models.

I might have paid them additional if I had known, and had gotten a better grade since I had gone online after this was put in and it was not rated nearly as well as the brand name that the company makes. The last time they were out here was this winter over my furnace and they were saying that one of the coils needed to be cleaned. But the coil was just put in not too long before that so I didn’t think it should be to that extreme as they described. I just don't feel comfortable with them, so I doubt it that I’d recommend that contractor company to a friend. But as for HMS, I’d recommend them.

When my garage door broke I put in a service ticket and got a call back from HMS. The rep explained to me that the only technicians that she had available were within five miles from my home but they were all booked until 24 or 48 hours later. I told her that I am trapped in my garage and cannot leave. Then I asked her if she could find somebody that can come out that day.

She told me that she would call three different companies and get back with me. Within an hour, she called back and told me there was a technician en route. Somebody could have just said, "Sorry. The next person I can have come out is a week from now or two days from now." But she went above and beyond and called several people until she got somebody out here that same day, which is remarkable in my book. I originally thought it was going to be several thousand dollars to repair because the door looked totally broken, but the technician said, "I can fix this, save you a lot of money. I've been doing this for 15, 20 years." And he left the door fixed like nothing ever happened. It was great!

Submitting a claim with HMS Home warranty is generally an easy process, although my latest claim did no go as smoothly as usual. I didn’t have any problem reaching HMS. The problem came with the vendors. I had an air conditioning problem when the temperature was 100 degrees, so I called HMS about it and they gave me the name of the vendor to call. I called that vendor and they didn’t call me back. I phoned HMS back and the girl that I spoke with put me on hold and called another vendor, came back on the line and gave me a date that they said they could come. When the date rolled around, no one showed up. I called the vendor and they said my appointment was on the following day. In short, it took almost a week to get anything done, and when the guy came, he was in and out here in less than an hour and had the problem fixed.

I don’t think HMS has enough vendors to choose from and having one or two air conditioning companies is probably not enough. I understand that probably all the air conditioning companies were busy and it could have been circumstantial in that it was a heat wave going on but that doesn’t help me when it’s 96 degrees downstairs and over 100 upstairs for days on end. HMS is a good service to have, and it’s definitely a money saver when something big goes wrong, but this is the first time that I’ve had a frustrating experience from them.

We've had HMS since we purchased our home 15 years ago. My experience submitting claims over the phone has been great and for the most part the vendors they send out haven’t been bad (our heat and A/C guy was very good) but some of them I wouldn’t have as a part of my HMS system if I had to choose them. One in particular disturbed me because he brought in a manual as if he didn't know what he was doing as he was trying to repair our washer. To me, that’s not an impression you want to give your customer, that you’re not sure what’s going on. If you need a book go to your truck, but don’t bring a book inside our home on what process or what procedure that needs to be done to correct the problem.

We also had bad ordeal with our water tank where the vendor didn’t do a great install and two years later, it went bad as a result of their faulty installation and the cost that you incur with HMS in replacing the water tank to me is exorbitant than most other warranty companies. We weren’t happy with the water tank replacement because it was replaced in 2011 and then it was replaced in 2015 or 2014 and it was too soon for us to have to come out with a $1000 or $1200 for something that we weren’t responsible for and doing a poor install initially.

Recently, most of the interactions with the claims representatives have been automated. But in the first two years, I spoke with live people and it was fine. We had an issue but it was taken care of. Most of their technicians are fine and friendly. The plumbers are usually the ones that are a bit more difficult but I guess they're just a different breed.

TotalProtect was convenient so we went for them as our home warranty provider. Right now however, we are considering cancelling the policy. We had a few claims. The one regarding the dishwasher went very smoothly and was taken care of very promptly. We were very happy with the representative from Sears that TP sent out.

The biggest problem we had and we still have this outstanding issue is with our AC unit. I was very disappointed in the way that it was handled. I actually made several calls and spoke to several people regarding it, including the supervisor. 2 out of the 3 representative that came out to my home to make the repair or give a diagnostic were poor English speakers, and I really felt like I was being ripped off. It was like a scam, and I told them this.

All three of the different people that came out to take a look at the AC unit had different opinions as to what was wrong with it. So if I were to go ahead and make the suggested repair, there was no guarantee that the part of the AC was still going to still work after that. And even with that, we would probably have to fork out about $2,000 and repair everything or go with a new unit. The person that I spoke to with the TotalProtect had told me that it's very complicated and difficult for me to understand.

When I googled for reviews on the representatives that they sent for the AC repair, there were over a hundred negative reviews on them. The AC guys were a bunch of jokers and were very inappropriate with the way they spoke to me. I went back and explained all of this to TotalProtect and basically the end result was that we had to go with what was covered. Therefore, I still have an AC unit that's not working. I actually paid some of my own money to get another (unbiased) opinion on the AC from a company off their list. The man gave a totally different reason as to what he felt was wrong with the AC. In fact, he was the one who I would have probably trusted to have just gone ahead and fixed it. But TotalProtect would not authorize that because he was the third person.

I really think it comes down to who they're choosing to do the work. I think if Sears would have been doing the AC, I probably wouldn't have had that problem. But they're getting these small companies, and when I called more reputable companies in my area, they say they don't deal with those. I think what happens is that these little companies aren't going to get a lot of money from TotalProtect so they have to make money some other way, like proposing deals that has nothing to do with the issue that I'm having. This is the first time I've ever had anything like this kind of a protection. I don't think I would ever do it again because I just don't think it's worth it.

When we called them back, they said one issue was wrong with it but it wasn't. In two or three times, they didn't bother to show up and when they did finally show, they claimed that it was a manufacturing problem. When the guys did come out from the manufacturer, the issue was the spin part that holds up. They said, "they should've known that", and that they could've fixed it anyway in two weeks but it took them two months to get fixed.

They're good but my most recent encounter with them when our air conditioning unit went out didn't meet my expectation. #1 Contractor did not do what they said they were going to do. The two men that came out told me they were putting the claim one day but they didn't and I had to call them the next day to get them to put in the claim. #2 Contractor waited until they got the part into the store before they even scheduled the appointment to come out. I shouldn't have to wait for a part to come in, and then wait another week for your schedule to clear up when I could have made this appointment a week in advance.

Another problem is that you can't go to anyone else. If I had stayed with another company whom we paid to check to our AC unit prior to submitting the claim, I would have paid a thousand dollars and had it fixed within the same day, but because I went to HMS, it took three weeks to be repaired, and I paid a hundred dollars for the deductible. I couldn't blame HMS but I talked to them about who they're hiring or contracting work out to. I would definitely never use that contractor personally.

We had a nice GE dishwasher that stopped halfway through a cycle with an "OE" error and wouldn't drain. I called Total Protect to get it fixed. They sent out a company who were VERY nice and professional and fixed it. It worked for 2 full loads and then did the same thing with the "OE" error and not draining. They sent an order in again to that company who I scheduled an appointment with and when they guy came out he determined that the control board has failed and it was skipping cycles and not draining. The appliance repair company could not get the piece so Total Protect was called upon to get it on their end. It was finally determined that they no longer make the control board anymore for that dishwasher. Total Protect made the decision to cover a new dishwasher. Great. Everything went smooth and quickly with repairs up until THIS POINT! until they had to actually REPLACE the unit and everything went down hill.......
The lady at Total Protect told us that once she orders the dishwasher they should have it in within a few days. That was the last we heard from them. I decided to call them a few days later to see if they got the dishwasher in and the person told me they did get it in and that they were scheduled to come out and deliver/install it on Friday (in TWO days). I guess they just were never going to call and let us know? So I asked if there was a time frame and she said, there was no timeframe at that time. I took off work and Friday morning called them to see if there was a time. They transferred me to a third party who was supposed to be the company that was delivering it. Well the lady over at that company said they were NOT the correct company and it was a different company that was delivering it. I called the number she gave me and THAT company said they had our dishwasher but did NOT have a scheduled date to come out and deliver it. They were unable to do it that day at all. They were able to get me in on the following day which I was working. I called Total Protect back an told them what happened and they transferred me to the manager who acted as if it was my fault. She said I was supposed to call the delivery company and schedule a date with them (even though my file shows THEY scheduled a date for Friday). Then proceeded to ask me which company had my dishwasher and what number I was given.

What????!!!!!!!! How do you NOT have this information??? I'm so confused and lost over this situation! How were we supposed to know what company was delivering the dishwasher in the first place??? And how did they even get a delivery date in their system?!!! The MANAGER didn't even know who had my dishwasher because they had a different delivery company in their system. My husband and I thought that Sears, GE, or Total Protect were going to be the actual company coming out to install it because their the ones that gave us the delivery date. This company is extremely disorganized, horrible at communicating with their customers and third parties and after all that her attitude with me gave us a bad taste in our mouth. We never got an appology for completely dropping the ball on us. I'm assuming they don't replace many appliances so when the time comes, they just don't know what to do or how to even get the claim for a replacement finalized. This department needs to be educated in this process. Even if they knew what the correct delivery company was and just told me to call myself to schedule with them (like the manager said was SUPPOSED to happen) that would have been fine! It's the miscommunication with us, with the delivery company, and making up a random date in their system and then not even calling to let us know anything is what is so unprofessional about this situation. The dishwasher is "supposed" to be delivered tomorrow, we will see if they even show up. We don't have high hopes. Oh and we were never even given a claim or order number for this either...

Submitting a claim with TotalProtect is really easy. Everybody is so nice and helpful. For the long time that I have been with them, I've only had one person that they sent out who was awful. He was sent to fix the air conditioner. It was 103 degrees in here so it was extremely hot in this house. And I'm 81 years old. So I asked him if there was any way that he could hurry and he said no and that he had a lot to do and he'd get to it whenever he could. So I said okay. Then he went in and started taking parts out and he said that we have to order a part. I understand that and he promised that he will come the minute he gets the part and fix it no matter what time it was.

What upset me was that he called me and he said that the part is in, but there's no way that he can do it since he was tired and going home from out of town. He said that he will be with me first thing in the morning, but instead, he came on the afternoon. When he got here, he took the thing apart again and started putting things on the carpet in the hall. He said that he was going to have to go out on the front porch because it was too hot in here. I wanted to go hit him over the head since, yes, it's hot in here and that's what I've been telling him for four days. I also asked him to go check out and see if I need any freon in the AC. He goes out and said that the AC needs not much but it does need some freon and when he brings these parts back, he will put it in.

So when he put everything together, I said to him not to forget to go put some Freon out but he said that it doesn't need it. I said to him that he just told me that the AC needed freon and when he comes back, he'd do it. He then said that I was lying to him and that he never said that. I don't know what was wrong with him, but I would never have him back out here. It's really dangerous here in San Antonio when the heat gets like that especially for older people and children, so I was concerned and my children were, too. But we toughed it out and I made it. Although, this last group that has come out for my dishwasher and my dryer have been so nice. They've come back and done some things so I would still recommend TotalProtect to a friend.

TotalProtect came about with the original mortgage holder on this house so it was automatically added on to our mortgage. Subsequently, we've changed mortgage companies and we refinance, so now I just charge through a credit card and have it every month and I've had them for ten years. They've been very responsive when we submit a claim online or through the phone. And if something was tied up for a day or two, there was usually someone I hear for my problem, depending upon who the sub-contractor is.

With the technicians, sometimes the part that we need for the repairs may not be available locally but I've always had it within three days if it's something from out of town. And if it was for heating and air conditioning, I've never had to wait at all. They worked on that because they know, we have to have the air conditioning here. Before, the service company who serviced us for the air conditioning was very expensive. Then I went ahead and joined TotalProtect's Gold part in which I pay a little extra money a month, and I'll be getting the same service.

So I thought, "Why am I paying these people a monthly service and I have this TotalProtect thing I've been paying on for years, and with a little bit of an upcharge, I can have the same service?" So I eliminated the heating and air conditioning company and just went with TotalProtect. Since then, I have no complaints and I'm very pleased. I've even had some of the sub-contractors who've come out here and work at our place and they told us that they had very good luck with TotalProtect versus American Home Shield. So I feel quite comfortable with that.

Up to this point, there has never been a price increase at all. Over the years, if I hadn’t upgraded to the other plan, my premium would’ve remained the same. I don't know how they’re able to do that because I know everything has gone up. But I understand the $75 service charge. I understand the agreement that we have for certain things and I have no problem with it. I recommend TotalProtect to anyone. Excellent Service.

I never thought of any home warranty provider but I kept getting TotalProtect flyers in the mail with my mortgage statement so I decided to use them since it's attached to my mortgage. It has saved me a lot of money. Their claims process is fairly straightforward. However, part of the difficulty is that it has to go through all the hoops so it takes twice as long. When the hot water heater or the air conditioning goes out, two weeks is a long time. But other than that, it's not so bad when it's something that you don't really have to live with.

Their people are very helpful, courteous and friendly and it's easy to get a hold of people there. However sometimes the contractors on their list are not always the best. I found a few of them that I really didn't like so I had to call and ask for somebody else. One air conditioning guy came last year and said, "Oh, it needs freon and a new fan." They provided that when in fact, it was fuel and oil. And the guy this year found that all of the unit had to be replaced. If I can call up and talk to somebody to say, "This is the contractor I would like to come cause he has come before and I liked him, and he does good work," it would be a lot more helpful than having to deal with the automated system that gives me their number one contractor where I have to call up and ask for that to be changed.

Their reps have guided me through in terms of whether it would be an appliance or a plumbing issue, so it wasn't a hassle. The technicians that have come were very friendly, knowledgeable about what my issue was and resolved it in a quickly manner. Getting signed up with TotalProtect helped me in the long run in terms of the cost when everything's breaking down or needing to be fixed. The cost of $40 something a month is definitely worth having protection on what happens in my house. It's the best decision I've made in terms of my house. I have recommended TotalProtect to two individuals who've gotten it as well.

I have had Total Protect Home Warranty for a few years now. The service has gone down tremendously. In May 2015 I put in a claim for a plumber because the water was going down slow in the toilet. I usually watch contractors while they work in my home but this time I did not do that and the plumber stopped my toilet up completely and told me it was going to cost over $500 to have him fix it and another $200 for a new toilet. Mind you there was absolutely nothing wrong with the toilet bowl, and it worked but not as fast as I wanted it to. He stuffed something in my toilet bowl to try and make money from me, I informed Total Protect, they sent someone else out to look at it, and he said someone had put something in the toilet.

Another situation on 6/6/2015 I put in a service call for my boiler, on 6/8/15 AC Mechanical contacted me to come out and look at the boiler, Andre came out, I paid my service fee, he looked at the boiler, said he needed to order a part, he needed to order it, and he would get back to us. As of 7/21/15 my boiler still has not been serviced, nor has anyone come back out to look at it. I have contacted Total Protect at least 15 times, spoken to 15 different people, even had a Supervisor with Total Protect do a conference call with AC Mechanical (Andre), he promised he would come out the next day, I stayed home from work and waited. He never showed, never called! I am Totally disgusted and dissatisfied with Total Protect Home Warranty!!! They need to have a better screening process for the contractors they hire to work for them. If I am paying for a service, I expect to get that service....I got nothing with Total Protect Home Warranty!! !

Generally, they give me a claim number, the phone number of who's going to make the repair, and either schedule the repair or I can schedule it myself. Technicians have always been good and willing to fix the problem. They diagnose what is wrong, then call TotalProtect to get the okay. That can be anywhere from five minutes to longer. Things get either repaired, replaced or I am given some type of a loan towards a new one. I've actually had a couple of appliances replaced.

Instead, for 3 weeks we have been surviving in extreme heat without any contact from company until we call. We have had to reside with others because of the heat. No one ever discussed what we were getting, sent any papers or responded in a timely manner. My wife almost had to go to the emergency room because we though we could hold out until service was provided. Because we are up in age (over 60), the heat is dangerous. This is not acceptable conduct on the part of this company. To make matters worst, even the air conditioning company had no idea of what is going on. We cannot and will not continue to live with others. If we stay in our home and any medical situation occurs, we will hold you totally responsible. This type of unprofessionalism should not occur. We need immediate action on this claim, and we need to talk to someone as to what we may eventually be getting. We cannot allow you to just send something that we do not know what it is. By the way, the heat plus my wife's seizures do not mix. This is too much stress. We need an immediate resolution to this problem.

First of all let me say that during the first 11 months with Total Protect, I highly recommended it to everyone I knew. I made public comments on Facebook and personally spoke about it to many friends and family members. I was especially impressed with the ease and quick response when placing a claim. I told everyone they were crazy if they didn't purchase a home warranty with Total Home Protect and that I only wish I had done it sooner. WELL... at the beginning of June (6 weeks before the annual renewal of my warranty), I received a letter saying that Total Home Protect was not letting me renew my policy. I was flabbergasted and disappointed to say the least! I spoke about it to many people, including my realtor friends, two of the contractors I used through my home warranty and others who had home warranties, none of them have ever heard of a company not renewing a home warranty. No reason was stated in the letter I received: however, my guess is that I was not being allowed to renew because I had used the warranty during the year. I had a leaking hot water heater and garbage disposal replaced, a minor furnace repair and leaking pipes. Isn't that the reason a homeowner buys a home warranty??? I knew my house was getting older (16 years) and things would start to go wrong. I worried constantly about these things, since I am a single working mother with other bills to pay.
Last summer, before going with Total Home Protect, I spent lots of time researching the various home warranty companies. Total Home Protect received many high scores. After speaking on the phone with a representative who was very helpful, polite and knowledgeable, I signed up.
Little did I know that if I actually had to use the policy I would be cancelled. Really, whoever heard of a home warranty company cancelling a policy??? BTW, I was never late in any of my monthly payments and was also very kind and appreciative of any help they gave me.
Oh, and I never received the promised $25 gift card for looking at their company and signing up. I also should have received another $25 gift card for a friend who signed up because of my recommendation. And, I am pretty sure I had several others who signed up because of me.
Now, I plan on telling all of them, that they made a horrible mistake in using Total Home Protect and they should look elsewhere for coverage. I will also make a public Facebook comment about what happened to me and also plan to contact the BBB, Consumer Affairs and Consumer Reports.

What a shame, that I was mislead by Total Home Protect!

The air would work for a few hours and then blow warm again. Finally, he just gave up and said he did not know what was wrong and would not return. So the search begins again, in the middle of the summer in Georgia, to find an available tech. So we got another one who said essentially we had the wrong unit - that cause the warranty to deny the claim. With that, we had to go to work ourselves to prove we had the right unit, then get the guy to call in and correct his error - which he did. However, keep in mind that all the while I had to pay the Servicing Fee to each one. The 3rd tech finally said I needed a new unit, so now I had to wait days for the approval, then I had to wait more days for the equipment to arrive and then more days for the tech to install it. Ends up we were 3 weeks in the Georgia 90+ heat without air! However, I will credit this company for recognizing that they needed to replace the unit, and stepping up to the plate to make it happen. Now we have a completely new system and we are happy. Hardly even remember we spent 3 weeks in weather reaching 90+ degrees on some days while we waited for the repair and subsequent new install. I would recommend them, yes, only because they do the right thing - many warranty companies, from what I hear, do not. Customer service was good - but it was hard to get them some days we held up to 45 minutes waiting on them to come on the line. They did honor their commitments to call us back and they did seem to work to get our claim resolved - we spent a lot of time on the phone with them - a lot!

My sister-in-law told me about TotalProtect Home Warranty and I made a call. Once I talked to them, everything was good. When I submit a claim I call them, then they send someone out, pay our co-pay, and they take care of everything. They've all done what they came to do and what I have asked them to do so they took care of everything.

Majority of the technicians HMS had sent were fine, very professional and they get the job done. The only thing I run into sometimes is they put us at the bottom of the list because it's a warranty program. In terms of submitting claims, I've always been able to get a vendor and get them called and service set up.

It didn't feel good when TotalProtect said what I needed to replace was not under the guarantee. The reps did answer all my questions and the technician did good work.

I've been very happy with TotalProtect. Submitting claims have been very good but I ran into one vendor that I wasn't happy with. Other than this, everyone and all the claims have been fantastic. The technicians were courteous. TotalProtect have been nice and I don't have to find somebody to come out when I have an emergency, they'll send someone out for me.

I submit my claims by phone or online and have never had an issue. The technicians have been friendly, knowledgeable, and usually do a same day service. A couple of times I've had to wait on parts, but either HMS or the company we're dealing with kept me informed. They've been great! HMS is reassuring and it's a nice peace of mind.
