HMS Home Warranty came with our house. It was easy submitting a claim online. We had two different technicians and they were both knowledgeable and friendly. What I didn't like about the second service person is that he couldn't give me a time ahead until the morning. The first one didn't do it that way and I was a week out waiting and the second still couldn’t give me a time until that morning. I was distraught that they would schedule that way but I'd recommend HMS.

All the appliances I had eventually wear out or get a problem and it's so expensive to call a man in to fix it. A lot of times, they can't fix it. They will say, "Well, you need one, sir. We can sell you one." And then I got to go through a million-dollar harassment thing with them. I found TotalProtect and listed everything that would cover my house. There was no problem in submitting a claim. I call up, get a claim representative and they take care of me real fast. They ask me what the problem is and then they come back and say, "Well, we're going to send these people out. This is their number and they'll call you." The next thing I know, I get a call from the people saying 60 bucks and they'll fix it.
I've had no problem with every technician that I've had, especially when they come local. They're very polite and fast. In fact, I filled out a survey online and put my comments in there, that I highly recommended them. I shared it to a friend of mine and he is going to try to get it, and a couple of other people. They want to see the pamphlet on it. I take the one I got when I talk to other people. If they're interested, I show them the pamphlet, tell them my experiences and pass it on from there. Usually, they pick it up because they think it's a good deal too.The people there are great and I can't ask for a better service. They were efficient and explained everything to me. If they didn't have the part with them, they would get back in a day or two.
The experience I've had with TotalProtect is excellent. Everything that I have called for, they've come out right away and fixed it. They brought electricians, plumbers and appliances out right there all the time. I can't be any happier with them. They go out of their way to help me. When I do need them and they give me somebody to come fix my problem and it's way out there, I tell them, "That's a little too far. You got somebody who's more local?" Right away they got somebody else, and they handle the problem right away..

I've been a TotalProtect customer for more than two years now and I'm very pleased with submitting a claim with them. It's easy and pretty quick to do. And, their claims representatives were always courteous and know exactly what kind of repair I need. And the technician they sent for my recent claim was very good. He came in, diagnosed the problem, replaced the part and tested it. I was very happy that he got my oven back in working condition. The warranty from TotalProtect is a good value and the repair was quick and efficient. And, I have recommended them.

When I submitted a claim with HMS, it was fast and easy. Somebody called me back in a short amount of time with an appointment. The technician who was sent to service my appliance was fantastic, knowledgeable, and quite good. He told me some great hints to look out for with my equipment to avoid needing anybody to come out in the future for other issues. For instance, it was my dryer that got fixed and he told me, since I bought the house and I don't know its history, to make sure I get my dust inspected in case it's backed up with dryer lint.

I had a different home warranty provider before and I didn't like the way they operate, the excuses they always came up with when it came to paying. Then, I looked into TotalProtect's website. The technician they sent was pleasant and did his job. My appliance is working but the motor they ordered did not have a switch that the old motor had. Maybe due to technology, they improved it, and the replacement unit did not come with one because it didn't need it but I was not informed and had to call and ask. He should have told me what he did, step by step, since he took it to do the repair. Other than that, I didn't have problems with TotalProtect.

Appliances break and one doesn’t have the money to repair. My husband and I took his friend's word that TotalProtect is very good and so we went along with them. With this, we just pay a fee and then they can come out and see what’s wrong and if it’s fixable, they will. If not, they’d give a check of how much it’s going to worth. If I want some more than that job, they’d pay more for it.
TotalProtect's technicians are very friendly, courteous, polite and well-mannered. When they come, they know what they're doing and are good about giving me the right kind of information. For my recent claim, the tech came on time and did the job. The only bad thing I experienced was if they have a technician, they have it from 8 to 5 which is a whole day, so I would like it to be for half a day.

The home that I have is older and I wanted to have a home warranty because I thought it'd be a good idea to take care of the problems that come up - some of the things in the house are expensive to replace. We learned about TotalProtect from my mortgage company at the time and got them to be our warranty provider. I had a previous provider when I first moved into this home but I was very upset with them. They didn't honor a couple of claims we had like the ice maker of our refrigerator; hence I didn't renew with them afterwards.
I'm very pleased with everyone at TotalProtect. Their claims representatives were very courteous and the technicians were very nice - though the first of the two that came for a claim didn't solve the problem. The only thing I had a problem with was when GE got paid for installing a product which they never installed, which I got someone else to do it. Nevertheless I am pleased with everything and I will recommend this company.

It was Wells Fargo that got me started with TotalProtect and it was the only home warranty I ever knew about. I can't usually find somebody to get into what I wanted done and as far as having somebody come out, it would be best and some of my products are old. One time, there was water on the bottom of the dishwasher, and it couldn't drain out all the way. I had to have five different people. The first time, he came out and then another one went three times and then the third or fourth person they sent out had finally got it working. They were very kind, nice and came out reasonably quick which was always a plus. Everything is still working so the quality of their work's good. They're great and I like them. I also got my children into it.

We called, and a guy set up an appointment the next day. He came out and did the repair. It went smoothly and was very nice. HMS is fantastic. We're happy and impressed. In fact, we might continue it after the year's up.

My last mortgage company recommended TotalProtect, and I've had them for a long time now. They all have the best things out there for what I feel like I needed. If something was wrong then I would pay a certain amount to get it replaced. Or if it just needed to be fixed, they would replace it for a certain amount and I like those amounts. I've only used it 2 or 3 times but they were very good experiences. The plumbers were outstanding. They took care of my problem and fixed it. The claims representatives were also outstanding. They guided me through the process and it's been nothing but good. They would even go one step more to make sure it was better than I expected it to be. I'm very satisfied, and the last two or three weeks, I recommended TotalProtect to 4 people. The whole experience with them was very enjoyable.

I bought a home in Virginia Beach about 10 years ago and part of the deal was a home warranty. That was my first experience with HMS Home Warranty, and I've had a couple of other homes since then and I've used them. I absolutely have no complaints with HMS. I have only had one problem with a technician where I could not get him to answer the phone. Finally after the second day, I called HMS back and asked if we can get a different company because the guy is non-responsive. They tried calling the guy, but there was no connection there. They said I've had enough issues and let me go with another company. I called the other company and that afternoon, they were out. I've referred HMS to several of my friends who recently bought homes.

TotalProtect Home Warranty came in an informative newsletter from my mortgage company, Nationstar Mortgage. The property that it was on is a rental property and I bought it as a new home, but things age, and I didn't want to find myself being hit with a whole bunch of replacement items. Everything was working fine, but I figured now is the time to take a warranty on it and if the mortgage company was recommending them, they must be a reliable organization.
Submitting a claim was a little slow to begin with but once I got to talk to somebody who seemed to be in authority and who could handle the problem, it got handled pretty quickly. I had trouble reaching someone who seemed ready to do something about it. It took several phone calls, but when I did reach someone, he was very efficient and he took care of the problem.
The service person, Scott, was very good. I was very pleased with him. He was a local individual who is in the heat and air. This was an air conditioner. He's in that business and seemed to know what he was doing, he was on time with the appointments and got the job done in a short period of time. He checked both units out, told me what was wrong, made a recommendation and presented two options: either replace the individual parts that needed to be replaced or the entire unit. Apparently, the warranty company figured it was more effective, efficient and even cost-wise, so they replaced the whole unit which I was very satisfied with.
I've dealt with insurance companies in the past and their business is not to make payment but to not pay anything they don't have to. I understand that, but I would consider it a normal situation as far as dealing with a warranty. It's what I expected. I'm happy with them. They were great, and the only thing I could suggest on is they need to be a little more receptive to the initial contact when somebody has a problem and not make them call three times to get anything done about it. In the end, everything turned out to be done to my satisfaction. It just took a little more effort than I thought it should have. They ended up doing the right thing and they took care of the problem and I'm satisfied with what was done. It wasn't perfect, but it was good.

In the four times that we submitted a claim with TotalProtect, it turned out good for the exception of one. We had a problem with our washing machine, and the guy came out to fix it, so we paid the fee of $75 that we had to on a visit because of the warranty. The guy mentioned to us if we could give him the gas money for his trip. We paid the money for the warranty to cover our claim, and we didn’t expect that one time that somebody would ask us money for gas. We should’ve told him to get the fee, go out, and report it but we gave him a couple of bucks anyway so he seemed satisfied. Other than that, we had no problem with all the other people that came out to work for us. The quality of work was on time and to the point, and the company answers all your questions, gives me any information I ask them, and are not reluctant to tell you anything. I’d recommend them to everyone else.

I got HMS Home Warranty when we listed our house for sale about a year and a half or two years ago. I've had two really good claims and one that was terrible over several years. When we first listed the house, we've hired HMS Home Warranty and they did an all-house inspection. They found a hole in the heat exchanger. It was the middle of winter. It took them 30 days to get heat in our house. That was terrible. Eventually, when push came to shove, the warranty saved us a lot of money and it was great. But it was a nightmare to get through.
We had two other claims. That didn't discourage us because we signed up for our new place and we had a furnace issue and the ice maker issue. It was phenomenal. We made a phone call and the guy was out. Somebody else told us we needed a new door and somebody else told us we needed a new furnace. We got both of them fixed. The technicians were fantastic. Came in, fixed everything the day that they came.

So he got a warranty service for one year with a different company and I switched his over to the same company so we're both under the same warranty program.
The experience when submitting a claim has always been good. Sometimes the people sent out wasn't sure, but they always seemed to do efficient job and do it right and everything like that. And then the last time it took a little bit longer because they had two different people come out to look at our refrigerator that we had in the garage. And then the company made a determination that rather than repairing it, they would just replace it, which I was quite surprised by, but it was fine. It was excellent for me.

It was an older home, the realtor recommended TotalProtect and I thought it was great so I went along with it. Submitting a claim hasn't been difficult, it's just difficult sometimes here in Casper to get somebody to work with TotalProtect, maybe because of the extra paperwork. I had a good experience with TotalProtect Home Warranty. The folks are nice. I've had TotalProtect for a couple of years now. I called because I questioned them on the fact "if I had a hot water heater that was up in the attic, how much does TotalProtect pay on that right there." I paid around $54 a month. They give you so much allowance in case they have to take things out and it's more complicated than it seems.
Submitting the claim wasn't hard at all. I called up and told AHS what the situation was and they said, "Okay, here's the number that you can call for these folks here and get an appointment for that time right here. Here's your claim number." So, it was pretty simple when they came in. They asked me my claim number, get the job and pay them my deductible and that was it.
The claims representatives were fine. I had two techs and both of them were great. They walked in the door and described who they work for. They were very friendly. They were very knowledgeable about what they were doing and came in, did the job and then left. They were clean and did a good job. They were very kind. Both groups were. It was a good experience.

I decided to look into acquiring a home warranty because my friend had one and he was giving me favorable comments about TotalProtect, so I was happy about it. Claims process was not very difficult. But I was not satisfied because I did not think that I would have to pay as much as I had to pay. I thought I only had to pay my monthly services.
First I had a problem with my air conditioning, first time I used it and they let me know that one of the units in my home was not covered. And I was under the impression that if a unit was a fixed unit and not a portable unit, it was part of the house, it was covered. Well I had a mini split in the lower portion of my home. I had a conversion of my garage to a living space and I had a heater/air conditioner that was called a mini split that was installed, and they told me they couldn't fix it. They couldn't work on it because it wasn't covered so that kind of bothered me. That really bothered me because no one ever asked me what appliances I had in my home.
I have an electric range. I have two refrigerators and freezer. I thought I wouldn't have any difficulty which is one of the reasons why I joined TotalProtect. I used to have Sears where they would send me a bill every year for two or three years service warranty. And when TotalProtect sent somebody out, they sent the same Sears repairman to my home. And so I had to pay him a fee and Im already paying my monthly fee, so I didn't think that was fair.
The service technician was very nice. He was informative and he knew exactly what he had to do. He fixed an icemaker and he had everything that was needed. Like I said he was very helpful. The quality of the work that he performed was wonderful. He gave me some information about certain things that I needed to do in reference to satisfy another problem that I had with my water line, the line that supplies the water for the icemaker and the drinking water. And that was a separate thing. I was very satisfied with him.
I would recommend them to a friend but I would have to make sure that they were aware of the fact that they needed to fully understand the contract that they got into, in reference to what expenses they had to incur or would incur if they needed repairs done. Like I didn't think I would have to pay the money that I paid for the services when they come out and do it.
The guy who came out and did my air conditioning, I mean he told me, "Well you got the wrong size unit in here". Well if TotalProtect had somebody to check the appliances and everything that I had when I first applied, they would have known then exactly what I had. He says, "Well this is not the right size unit for your home". I had never had any problems with it cooling my home or anything but he says "Well no, this is the wrong one and you need to get another compressor, this, that and the other". I think that they should be a little bit more explicit about things or they should know more about what you have in your home before the warranty is accepted by them, your business is being accepted. The work was fine but I just think there should be more explanations. I am satisfied with the work that was done and when it was done. But I wasn't satisfied with the money that I had to pay.

That company was the first company (and now the 3rd or 4th) they have tried to use. I had to change to another one because when I called the man (he never did call me), he would say he was coming the next day and not show up. This went on for weeks. My second claim has to deal with my range. It kept cutting off. I filed a claim, a service guy was sent, spent 5 minutes, said I needed a new sensor. He ordered the part but that did not fix the problem. They sent a different repair vendor that said I needed a new range. I have all Whirlpool appliances but they wanted to replace it with a Hotpoint, even though they offer a discount on Whirlpoool appliances. I ended paying extra to get Whirlpool range, purchased and installed by Sears. They offered to provide a credit of $493. My stove was purchased on 8/5/15 and I emailed all supporting documents to them after the stove was installed on 8/17/15. I received a reply email immediately that indicated it would take 4-6 weeks to process a refund. I am now on week 10. I am still waiting on the refund check. I have spoken with countless customer service people who tell me it is a back log in Support Services. I can't speak with Support Services because I was told they do not have phones. I finally spoke with a supervisor , Mike at ext **. He told me the check would be mailed on 10/21/15 and if I did not have it by 10/27/15 to call him. I called Mike and left a message yesterday. No return call. I called today and was told it was mailed on 10/21/15. I have yet to receive the refund and question whether it has even been mailed. I am cancelling the policy and contacting an attorney.

Having a home warranty saves money in the long run so when I first heard about TotalProtect from my insurance company and my mortgage company, I signed up. When something breaks down, I call them, tell them what the problem is, and they give me a claim number. They tell me who the company that's gonna come and do the repairs are. They're courteous and able to answer all of my questions. I've never had a problem with them. In a lot of cases, they contact them for me and they schedule a time.
The contractor comes and I write my deductible check. The service technicians have always been very professional, very thorough, and they explained what the problem is, and they explained what the process is in case an item has to be replaced. They fix the appliance or whatever the situation is, and overall it has worked out really well. In one case they had to replace the garbage disposal. Everything else, they've been able to fix. I've used them quite a bit, so overall I'm getting value for the money so far. The experience has been positive. The only thing I did not like is that they raised the deductible. It used to be $60 and it went up $75. Other than that, everything has been fine.

Submitting a claim to HMS Home Warranty was easy. I called them up then they sent the contact information with the contractor that they have partnered with to set up an appointment. I then paid the deductible to that contractor and it's pretty much done. The technician who came was very knowledgeable and respectful though I wish they would cut down their appointment window from about four hours as I had to take a half day off of work just to be home and be sure.

It took me 3 weeks to get my hot water heater replaced. Claims never put the order in - although I was told several times they had - and then when they did they ordered the wrong unit. On top of all that I finally paid almost $300 out of pocket. That included my $75.00 deductible, a $50 haul away of the old unit fee, $50 for the hookup and $100 for an expansion pan they said was an "Upgrade" but was needed to meet code. Now that I want to cancel my contract with them they tell me I might owe another $300 because my contract had renewed in July and the monthly payments I had made since then weren't enough to cover their costs for the hot water heater! I would have been better off never having had a contract with them and just brought a hot water heater at Lowes and had a plumber install it. I would have had hot water a lot sooner for less. I've had other home warranty companies and never had issues like I've had with Total Protect. The only reason I went with them was my mortgage company included the monthly payment with my mortgage and it was convenient for me. I would not recommend Total Protect to anyone.

Piece of crap and a total rip off. Don't bother spending your money or negotiating this home warranty into your closing contract. It is not worth it. Anything you may need they will find a way not to cover and you will be spending 100.00 on a deductible for EACH claim area. By the time you get finished paying out all of your 100.00 deductibles for each claim area that you do not get back when they deny your claim, you would have saved money by just paying for the repair yourself.

We have had about 8 claims over the years. And everyone of them has been taken care of. We have even used the things called Buyer's Guide, where as a customer you have access to the wholesale company that you can buy. We bought a new electric cook stove. That's a benefit of the TotalProtect. If you need to buy an appliance, they gave you a password then you call and then you charge it to your card. But they still ship the item to you and that's a benefit.
I do have one thing I have to have them come out and check - it is our dishwasher. They came out and checked it about a year ago and we thought it’s fixed but then wife tells me that it’s not taking all the water out and it’s leaving water in the bottom. So, it just means that I have to call them, have them come back out and look at it. I hate to do that in the sense that I just had the air conditioner replaced about 30 days ago. Called TP to request a different plumber. They said they could not (really?) do that but I could get my own plumber and they would reimburse me x-amount. It has been 4 weeks and they claim they never received our receipt (go figure). Furthermore, they ONLY way to communicate with this sorry company is by email, to which they won't respond.
Moral to the story: If you enjoy paying to be screwed over by shady incompetant techs, lied to, ignored and loads of greif then sign up with Total Protect.

Now when I call them, they'll say, "We're going to send Joe Blow out there from Tyler." I tell them I want somebody local. I do not want some Jack Lake from out of town and that's the way it's going to be. If they keep this up, I'm going to cancel out. One of the best plumbers that I had quit doing business with HMS because they weren't timely on paying the claims.
I also had a call one time on my Viking stove. Five days later, Sears called and said, "We don't work on those." So I had to call back because they did not know at HMS who sold these Viking stoves. We were out the oven for seven days instead of one day. Sears is not a responsive service. I want HMS to give me a list of people that says who takes care of what. Like my air conditioning people who have been taking care of the air conditioning and heating systems in this house for 19 years. If they're with HMS, that's the people I want. One person from the party I had been to mentioned about TotalProtect Home Warranty when everybody started talking about their problems with their HVAC's. I also have had some issues in the past with HVAC systems. I went online, looked it up and saw that they charge a reasonable 75 bucks a month. It is a good deal especially if you had some serious appliance use. Their vendors were very professional, informative, can be questioned and tell you what's going on. They may give you some hints. "If you want to do it yourself, it's just this little micro switch here. Check that." I'm an engineer so I like that stuff. It makes sense that some people would be probably touched. I am having a very good experience with TotalProtect. It's just great.
They rate the problem and try to take care of it almost as soon as they can even in times of high traffic times like winter, after a heavy rain or even a hurricane. We haven't experienced any of those here but we have some tough storms. Anytime I've had a problem they hook me up with a couple of vendors. If I have a problem, I tell them, "Can I go back to so and so," because they're right down the road. Very good, quick, efficient, and professional. TotalProtect is one of the firms that truly care about the consumer and their clients in terms of getting things done and making sure that if they have any issues they get them resolved as quickly as possible. He came in to fix the faucet and a leak in the bath tub and he wanted to tear out the whole wall and redo all of the piping. He wants to run up a $500 bill for me (and also about that much for TotalProtect) and I told him I wasn't interested. I gave him the $75 and he left. I told this to the agent there and she agreed that I could go ahead and have someone local and fix it which I did and they paid him and it cost $90.
I'm also not real pleased with their work. I had one tech come in to fix my air conditioner. The air conditioner was leaking and he replaced the coil above the heater with a smaller coil which didn't match up well with the heater that was mounted directly below it. He didn't turn the heater on to see if it would work even if they're all one unit. I called and the man that came in was mortified by the fact that the guy didn't even look at the heater when he installed the air conditioning. So he installed a smaller heater unit than what was in there before at same BTU but it turns out its smaller and he had to jury-rig the attachment to the air conditioner. So I've got a hodge podge in the AC and now I'm not sure how lucky I'm going to be with all that mess.

HMS Home Warranty has been very good. Their claim process is very easy and their representatives are very good. I've had a few claims and they've all been wonderful. I just call, tell them the problem and they'll send the appropriate person out. The technicians they sent were very businesslike and the quality of their work were very good. I appreciate that they know what needs to be done and if they will replace something, they don't lie about it. If it needs to be replaced, they'll replace it for the same quality that you have. I like that. Overall, it was excellent.

I filed a claim because my air condition unit was not working properly. I had my unit serviced by one of their companies not even 6 months ago. Another company came out and stated that my drain pipe(on the unit) was clogged and that my fan motor and control board needed to be replaced due to water from the drain pipe leaking. I was told that my ac nor my heat would work. Total Protect denied the claim because the pipe was supposedly clogged and that's not covered. The drain pipe is on the unit inside of the house and it was nothing that I did or could have done to prevent this. If my unit was serviced not 6 months ago, this should have been detected/noted at that time and should have been covered. I cancelled my plan and had another repair man come to my home. My unit is now working and my fan motor nor my control board had to be replaced.

My microwave was broken, and the tech replaced an electronic control panel, and then left. However, the microwave still did not work. The tech returned a week or so later to put in a new electronic control panel, but he forgot to bring the panel. I am still waiting to get this fixed.
I also reported a problem with my washing machine. On the first visit the tech said it needed to be replaced, and I would hear from Total Protect. But I never heard from them. The tech guy came a second time and this time he said a $6 part was needed to fix it, and this was on order. The tech guy came a third time, but without the part, which he now said was not needed since the washer was, indeed, broken (his first diagnosis), and it needed to be replaced. He again said that Total Protect would be in touch with me. Someone did call and left a message, but when I called Total Protect back the customer service person could not makes sense of the report she was reading in my file and said I should call back later. I did call back today and was told that the problem with my washer was not covered.
Based on my experience with this claim, I found Total Protect to be unprofessional, unreliable, disorganized, and untrustworthy and plan to cancel my policy.

Then they said they would come but it had to be at night bet. 5 and 8. I expressed my concern about it being dark , no problem they said. At 8:40 they called to say they Couldn't make it. Next day I called Customer (not) service, and asked for another company as I had a bad feeling already . I was told " Not Possible" ,there was no other venders. (come to find out any plumber they had could have taken care of it ) so , they lied to me . The workers they sent when they finally came seemed fine until they wanted me to sign the work order , which said at the end I was responsible for an Accesss fee. (a board with 6 screws)No amount was stated. I told the man I couldnt sign it cause I didn't know what that meant. I Gave him 85.00 ded. They said they needed to order a part, and return . No one contacted me for an appt. NEVER heard from them or Total protect . I called TP after about 10 days, giving them plenty of time to get back to me . 10 calls later and many unhelpful and rude people later the hot tub is still not repaired. No transfer of the ded. to another co. will be made , even one in the network . I got HMS Home Warranty when I bought the house and then I renewed it. The first couple of times I dealt with them wasn't good but when they did things right for me, I realized it was okay to deal with them. The first time was when my water heater went out. It was on a Saturday and I couldn't find my paperwork so I called a plumber and they came and fixed it. But it wasn't an authorized plumber through them so they didn't pay me for that. I was a little pissed about that because I was stuck between a rock and hard spot there.
Another time was when I had them come out and look at my refrigerator with the ice water and it was leaking. It was 95 degrees out and it was his last job for the day and didn't want to fool with it. He said, "They've got to cover the door. That's not covered under your policy." I also had him come look at my dishwasher to make sure it was okay. They covered both of those under one $100 fee but he wouldn't take it. I called HMS and I said, "That's not right." So they sent another guy out there and he spent a half hour to have that valve out of there, pulled something out and slid out the refrigerator, replaced something in the back and had it working just perfect. Let me start by saying I've been a loyal customer for 2 1/2 years and this was my first and only claim and this has been pure hell to get my reimbursement back on the water heater I had installed outside of your recommended plumber and its not even the full amount. Let me start from the beginning.
On 7/23/15 I placed a call to Total Protect Home Services to open a claim which was 902XXXXX. On 7/24/15 your Plumbing company you contracted XXX of Texas, came out to my home and give me a $75 deductible quote. On 7/27/15 you company gave me a call and said my Water Heater was NOT covered and I would have to pay $845.00 out of pocket. I could not believe what I was hearing, I was livid, to say the least! I had paid into this program now for almost 2 years and this was not covered, which I thought would be covered, according to your contract booklet. Instead of paying that amount, I went ahead and started getting quotes from our local plumbers. I found a licensed plumber to do the same quality job as the one you sent out, which was $145 cheaper. I called the customer service line and told me to send all receipts to the email address they gave me and it would take 4-6 weeks to review and approve the reimbursement.
So 8 weeks later I called your claims customer service rep and I was told my claim was denied because I used an unauthorized contractor and would not get my reimbursement, well I escalated my claim to the manager on duty and he told me to resend the receipt and that he would walk through account to get the process started. Well I did receive an email back from him the next day and guess what, the email said I would have to wait another 6-8 weeks for approval. At this point, I was angry and decided to give the claims customer service a call and finally I was told I would only get $492.00 back because this was based off their whole sale price of the water heater and I would not get my full refund of $702.
I was thinking who their decides what the customers should get back, right. I put in 2 1/2 years of monthly dues and you would think that it would be over $702 by now. I mean why do we invest into this program if we can't use our own money we put in. This was my FIRST claim, come on. Do you think I am going to file another claim if something happens again with your company, PROBABLY NOT!
I hope you hear this Sandi FinnNot a happy customer now !!

After almost three weeks and several phone calls, the original problem was corrected and we paid the $75.00 deductible. At that our repair man advised us of a second problem. We had an actual hole in our dishwasher. He felt that this was due to a spoon falling out of the silverware basket and transferring heat to the bottom of the dishwasher. He noted that due to the age of the dishwasher (over 10 years) the structural integrity was probably compromised. Total Protect has now advised us that they will not pay for a replacement as the problem is not a "mechanical failure". They will also charge us for the balance of the service call if we drop them. Really? By my estimate, I have spent over $2,500.00 in appliance insurance and am unable to get a white standard Whirlpool dishwasher replaced!! !

The guy came out and said the compressor has gone out on my appliance okay now it was approved right away for the repair now this guy says he can't do it until next Wednesday. Now next Wednesday I will be on a plane out of town so now we won't have this repair done until the following Wednesday wich Sept. 30 one day before Sears said they could come out. Nobody cares that in the meantime all of the food in my refrigerator will be spoiled they sure don't cover you for that. Everything was going fine at first now I'm left very disappointed!!!

We have HMS for our house and for the duplex that we bought as well. In the past we had bad experience with them. I felt really pissed about some of the contractors that they used because sometimes they screw up. The one that was really, really bad was when I had a hot water heater replaced. It was in the winter time and I was out of hot water for over a week. The guy that came out tried to sell me up on some other stuff. They did put a hot water heater in but they put in just the lowest line. They didn't match what was in there instead they put in something a little smaller, not as good in quality.
There was another one where I had a stove and a washer replaced. They ended up replacing with the stove because it was a 1960 model and they couldn’t get parts for it anymore. But that was General Electric’s fault for the person not being trained. Finally, the way that I got that worked out was moving it all the way up the ladder with General Electric service. The guy from GE was very good. He figured out what was going on but it took weeks. For the washing machine which was also GE, they came out and said, they’d pay a flat rate-- it was $60, even if we replaced $600 worth of parts. They made 2 or 3 trips and left the parts on the front porch but I didn't know how many. They never did come and pick up the part. But then they finally did come and they replaced the washing machine. Now, the company that came and replaced the washing machine, they took certain things out of the box and put it in their pockets. Their pockets should have gone with the washing machine.
If I hadn’t had couple of the other contractors that had been okay, I would have seized business with HMS based on that hot water heater experience. General Electric did make it right. I even had to go in with the hot water heater a few days afterwards and tried to cut the something so it started leaking. The contractor did a shoddy job. I didn’t want the guy back in my place so, I finished that one up myself. Had I known it was gonna take that long, I would have just done it myself. I would have gone out and bought a hot water heater for $300. I paid a $100. I would have done it and I wouldn’t to wait for a couple of weeks.
As far the 800 number, I got through and I was able to use the claim numbers. I think HMS has improved over the last couple of years. So, my recommendation would be for them is to check that out a little bit more of the contractors they are using. It is the coordination between HMS and the person who's doing the work that was lacking and they also have to do a little more research on these people. We were planning on not to renew the home warranty of the duplex because of the cost but since they had a special and worked the price down it became a reason for us to go with them for another year.

I had three calls with the service this morning ostensibly to set up a plumbing service for two issues we are having. After finding out the warranty service did not cover certain aspects, I asked for a supervisor from a CSR named Casey. She was rude, snidely, and when I asked for a supervisor she kept telling me one was not available how could she help. When I asked for a supervisor a third time, and she refused, I hung up. I then called back and asked again for a supervisor from a person named Katy. After a few minutes, a supervisor came on and mispronounced my name. I corrected him, and told him what had occurred and that it was either a training issue or the CSR Casey should not be on the phone with customers. After that, and thinking he said his name was Warren, he did not apologize or sympathize, all he could say was his name was Juan not Warren. I said understood and told him since he felt no obligation to apologize or help me good bye. This is the second or third time in the last year we have had issues with people at your call centers. Is there a morale issue, poor training, or just people who are not paid well and do not want to be at your call centers? This is no way to treat a long term customer and we are planning to shop around for other warranty services if this is indicative of your firm at this point.

They do everything on their website and they had somebody call me back that very same day I submitted. Once they have a further understanding of the issue, they contacted a person to come out and help me with it. I was hands-off at that point. The contractor they sent was very knowledgeable. He was a nice and polite guy who was easy to work with. He was able to help rather quickly. When the job was done and my issue was fixed, it stayed fixed since then. Everything's fine. On the whole, I expected good service from HMS and that service was delivered.

Nevertheless, this company is professional on the whole and I've already highly recommended them to several people. I was purchasing a condo that my real estate agent was showing to me and we decided that having coverage on what I was purchasing would be a good way for me to go, so I got HMS home warranty. I recently submitted two claims with them. One was about a gas line and it was denied because of the original set-up in the basement, but I've taken care of that. I also called them about my air conditioning that went out. I called them on a Saturday afternoon and they did their best -- there was a tech out by 9:15 p.m. It was one of those hot days and I did appreciate it. They called me and let me know what I needed to get information-wise.
The claims submission was very easy. I called them and explained what my situation was, then they gave me a claim number and a phone number to set up an appointment with the vendor. But then the person whom HMS had recommended asked me to have HMS call them with an authorization number, which I did. It was all cleared up within an hour but the tech couldn't get there until about 9 o'clock at night. Once he was there, he had my a/c up and running.
The technician who came to service our appliance was very friendly. Even though it was 9 o'clock at night and he was tired, he was willing to show me what I should look for. In the air conditioning system and the furnace there is a black insulated piece of tubing -- he said to feel it. If it's warm, that's good. But if it's cold, we have a problem. We went out to the air conditioning unit itself and there was an elbow-thin, small tubing that he asked me to touch. I said it's cold. He said that's good. He said "if it was not sweaty and cold, we would have a problem." So that's two things I know to look for in the future if I have any of these kinds of problems, and I did appreciate that. He got the work done, signed, and was on his way within an hour. So overall I would definitely recommend HMS. They were very friendly, helpful, and acted in a very speedy manner to take care of me.

We've been with HMS since 2006 and we've been with them for quite a while. I have expectations since I pay for a home warranty. I expect them to be there when I need them. Representatives of HMS have been always very good. Everyone I talked to on the phone have been really nice. However it seems like that when I want updates, I'm the one that always initiates the call. They don't automatically give me updates on my claim. I'll wait 24 hours and I'll find out what the status of my claim is. I understand I'm not the only customer and I don't mind calling, it's just sometimes there's a wait time to get a hold of a representative. They put a voicemail out on the phone that services may be delayed because of the things going on throughout the country, which I understand.
Also, their rates were a little high. In 2006 we were paying $15.95 a year, then it went up. The rates were pretty significant increase as far as percentages go. Their rates went up higher than probably they really needed to but I can't control that. One thing I have learned: if I'm filing a claim or following up on a claim, they always ask me if I'm willing to take a survey. I have found if I say no, I wait much longer. If I say yes, I get a hold of somebody pretty quickly.
They been good about honoring the contractual agreement. They replaced a refrigerator and a clothes washer this year. I got what I expected. The research department did do a very good job in getting us a replacement that was very comparable with what we had. Just to give an example we had a commercial grade washer and that's what they replaced it with. I was thrilled because when it comes to washing towels, sheets, things like that, you would want a deeper tub.
Other companies don't cover ceiling fans but HMS does so we stick with them. We've got four ceiling fans just in the upper level. So when our air conditioner went out, early in the summer when it was like 95 degrees out, we needed to use the ceiling fans at least to circulate the air until they could replace the part the next day. They cover other things as well but just my history with them, I've been happy with the service. They have repair to replace, when it's repairable but they determine it's too old, which they did with our refrigerator and dryer, both 18 years old.
Overall, I've been very happy with them. HMS Home Warranty did everything they said they were going to do and they've fulfilled their obligation. They have been contractually compliant, and they have not given me a reason to look elsewhere.

He came and unplugged the discharge lines so it would run clear, and then he told me the coils needed a good cleaning. However, he didn’t bring his stuff so he couldn’t fix it that day and that was the last I ever heard of it.
I just moved here and found out I had to undergo hip replacement surgery. I’ve had the surgery done, went to rehab, got home yesterday, and all of my kids who stayed at my house noticed that the air conditioner’s working right. I feel that if the technician said the coils needed cleaning and he wasn’t able to bring his equipment, he should’ve come back and done it but he didn’t. Now I've been without a working kitchen sink (or dishwasher since they all drain together) from Sunday night- it's Thursday- and the service provider just said the replacement is on back order until next Wednesday. That's a total of 11 days without a kitchen sink! When I called HMS there wasn't one representative to help. First one transferred me to the manager line- after which my call was dropped. I submitted a claim on August 3, 2015, for a faulty refrigerator at my only rental house; the refrigerator was haphazardly cooling, freezing, defrosting, etc. $85.00 later, the serviceman said that two parts need to be ordered. August 13, one of two parts arrived at my tenant's house (that's 10 days). Nothing else occurred, so I called Totalprotect on August 30. The agent apologized and said that someone dropped the ball somewhere, and there has been a problem locating the second part, but she pushed it through to "Authorization," who would call me within 24-48 hours. Again, nothing. I called again on September 7 to be told that someone dropped the ball again, but don't worry, "Authorization" just authorized ordering the second part. And my personal favorite: "We will call you with the details later." No other options were explored such as going with another service provider (unless we started the whole claim from the start with the $85 service fee again). No consideration was given to my tenants who have lived with a malfunctioning refrigerator for over 30 days; their electric bill has doubled (I have the proof); they have borrowed a small freezer; they have to go to the store on a day they wish to eat fresh food since they cannot trust their refrigerator. It seems absolutely incredible that a family of 5 could tolerate this living situation with the grace and patience they have, but they have. Totalprotect's last suggestion on September 7 before I hung up on them? To call me the next day and discuss the details of the claim. Next move: Better Business Bureau and anyone else who will listen. The bottom line is that my tenants deserve a working refrigerator and compensation for their inconvenience and doubled electric bill. I regret the day we received the advertisement for TotalProtect.
Updated on 09/22/2015: On 9/9/15 I submitted a complaint against Total Protect because of their lack of service. In short, Total Protect forgot to order parts, forgot to notify me of progress or lack thereof twice, leaving my tenant and her family of 6 without a functioning fridge for over 30 days. Their electric bill doubled, and they lost a lot of money on wasted food, not to mention the utter inconvenience of the situation.
Since then, we opened our line of pre-approved credit (we have stellar credit) and purchased a new fridge for the tenant.
Since then as well: Sears contacted me to inquire how the service was (I didn't return the call since there was no service because parts were never ordered); Sears called requesting the return of parts that may/not have been sent...yet failed to keep me or our more than patient tenants informed. Likewise, today (9/21/14), Total Protect called to inquire about my satisfaction of the fridge repair. Seriously?
Just to see what would happen, I returned that call. One rep worked with me, enduring my story. He connected me to his superiors twice, even following up twice by calling me back twice. All to no avail. As of now, Total Protect cancelled my contract as requested, but still charged me the $71.00 cancellation fee.
Total Protect also told Consumer Affairs had resolved this issue with me, which is why I am posting this. Not only is this matter not resolved, but Total Protect has failed to live up to their word by bold-faced lying to Consumer Affairs.

Today is 9/8 I had time to write this because the SEARS technician that was supposed to be here from 8-12 is not coming. Another excuse of customer service scheduled, but somehow it did not get on the schedule. SEARS came out last week and misdiagnosed and installed a computer chip for 20 minutes. I was told to give it 24 hours. The 24 hours expired and now the game and phone tree waste of time continues. I had a time last week to have them come out and look at it again, but the technician said he needed to be paid in advance before coming to the house. i.e. He did not show. The notes say I cancelled. The service is flawed because they rely on service providers (SEARS). Sears is the one supposedly working on my Fridge. Did I mention that it went out on July 2? SEARS internal communication systems don't work and the technicians are not prepared when they arrive which means everything is a 2 visit fix. Good luck, because you have to be there for their comfortable 4 hour window each time. For the amount of the service you would be better off to save it for 3 years and replace it yourself through a big box that will deliver and haul away. Did I mention there is still a $75 deductible? PS if you are thinking why didn't I replace and move on, because I already paid into this mess over the past 5 years and I am owed this. Don't bother asking for a Supervisors number, because even when you do have it. They don't answer or return messages, i.e. They don't care, because they have too many other messes. After you hang up, that is it. Then you will have notes read back to you by the next operator when you call to f/u, which may or may not contain your last phone call. Don't forget none of your lost value of food is considered. It is in the contract. Read it! Now you have been informed and warned how it works.
