I submitted a work order request on 8May2016 @ 1945hrs. I was called the next day indicating a Mr. Donly ** would contact me to set up a time to come look at the hot water heater. He never did. I call TotalProtect and informed them and they gave me his number **. I called and said he was on his way to Memphis and couldn't get to me til Monday evening or Tuesday morning. I call TotalProtect again to see if there was someone else that could come out because I needed to take a shower as I am disabled and can't get in and out the tub. I was informed they had to wait for Mr. ** since he could be there that day or the next. He showed up unannounced at 1835hrs. He informed my wife that he would be back the next morning, he never did. I called him at 1300hrs and he told me he couldn't find the 50gal lowboy replacement water heater so I asked if a 40gal would do. He said I would if the insurance company would allow it. I received a called from TotalProtct and was told that I have two options: I could wait 3-5 more business days for the service provider to get one delivered, or I could take a contract credit. I asked how much the credit was and was told it was $852. So I asked how much was the repair/replace of the hot water heater. The service rep told me he would have to get a quote from Mr. **, but he wouldn't inform Mr. ** what the figure was that had been discussed with me. The service rep put me on hold and when he returned he informed me that Mr. ** estimate was $852...really. I went and priced the Electric 40gal Hot Water Heater at Lowe's (Same place Mr. ** had gone) and discovered that the water heater only cost $349. Really...so he was charging $852 (same as the contract credit) for a $349 water heater. The situation with the contract credit is that I would have to pay Mr. ** the $852 up front and get reimbursed within 2 days or so. I explained to the service rep that I didn't have that type of money so since I couldn't get the requested service, I would do it myself. After I purchased the water heater, I called TotalProtect back and asked to speak to a supervisor because someone is getting a kick-back on the service calls. The rep asked why I needed to speak to a supervisor and I explained the situation to him and what had happened. He covered it up and I couldn't speak to the supervisor. So I informed him that as of June 1, 2016, their services will no longer be required and I am canceling my contract with them and going with a different company . I believe they are a bunch of lying crooks that are ripping off the insurance companies and have people that they only work with that will give them a part of the kick-back. A $349 hot water heater that takes only about 30 minutes to replace, no lines have to be replaced, the water heater is very, very easily accessable, but it will cost $852...really.

I contacted Total Protect because my GE Refrigerator was leaking; it leaked so bad it damaged my floors to the point they needed to be replaced. Refrigerator part replace all is good. Well a few months later, refrigerator leaking again, floors getting wet, Total Protect called, part replaced. Next month, refrigerator leaking again, Tech now guessing what is wrong and just replace a part he think is the problem and stated "This is a very good refrigerator and GE have a lot of parts"; the very next week, refrigerator leaking again, now my floors swelling a little. Call Total Protect, get scheduled for GE again, the Tech calls me and says "I'm just going to replace the door; I'm having the part deliver to your call when you receive it". Go scheduled a week later 05/12/16, but in the meantime the refrigerator is still leaking, have towel to soak up the water. I'm so fed-up I request for a Supervisor to call me last week. Called today 05/11/16 and was informed that a Supervisor did call and left me a message. Checked phone and no message. Was informed that they couldn't give me the Supervisor number but will put in the system I called. REALLY. The Customer Service Rep stated "Total Protect is not responsible for consequence incidents. REALLY PEOPLE. My floors were replaced due to the leaking refrigerator and now you telling me you not responsible, most certainly you are. Stop putting a Band-Aid on the refrigerator and replace it. Now who is going to replace my swelled floor due the leaking? Still waiting for a call from one of there VERY BUSY Supervisors. I think I need a lawyer.

The claim process at TotalProtect was quick, easy and to the point. So far, I've had good technicians. However, there was one technician that I had a problem with wherein he was a bit aggressive. He worked on my air conditioner but he judged me based on my complexion and went too far, and I had to report him. So far, their reps helped handle the situation in a professional way. Overall, it was a really good experience. Every time I call whether or not I talk to a technician or go online to do my order, I'm always handled quickly. The turnaround is not too long for getting somebody to call me up and do the service. I would recommend TotalProtect to anybody and I would not be without it.

We were trying to find the cheapest protection for the house to go with and TotalProtect Home Warranty was the one we chose. The experience was great overall. We have filed 2 claims already and we find the claim process to be easy. Everything was good except in an instance when we did have a little bit of a problem with the last claim. We had a situation and we’re trying to get somebody out here. The techs that were supposed to go told the lady we were speaking with that they would all come over here that same day but they were booked up. The next morning, however, they were here at around 8:30.

When we purchased our house, HMS Home Warranty came with it for the first year, and ever since then, we've renewed it every year. We just submitted a claim last month and it was pretty simple. We gave them a call, I explained to them what the problem is, and then they pick a local person or company from that area that works with HMS. The gentleman that was here a couple of weeks ago was friendly, good and professional. He got the job done and went on with his business. We've had no issues with the people they sent out and their promptness and willingness to take care of the problem fast. In the past few years, we've had our hot water heater changed out, and a new compressor with the air conditioning. So far, it's been great. We're satisfied with our experience. They've been reliable and their response was quick. We'd stay with them.

On March 29th I submitted a claim to HMS for my washing machine and they promptly responded. They worked to find a repair place and setup an appointment to have the machine repaired. The first place they assigned me to said they couldn't repair my machine because I couldn't provide the serial and model number since it had washed off the sticker. Then they attempted to set me up with a GM repair place since that is the type of machine I have, but there weren't any that actually service in my region. So HMS set me up with the original repair place. This all happened on March 30th and I was able to set the appointment for that weekend. The first visit was on April 2nd and the technician ordered a new motor to repair it.
The next appointment was set for Thursday, April 13th and a different technician installed the part. During that visit he stated that the ordered part was incorrect for the washer and that even if the part was correct for my machine that it would still not resolve the problem. He advised me to contact HMS because there was nothing he could do for me. He said he could not order a new part for the machine because he did not have the full serial or model number and would be simply guessing on what to order. He also added that the original technician had just started in December and wasn't as experienced. I contacted HMS that same day to explain and find out what to do next. HMS said that they would review my case and get back to me within 24-48 hours. They said they would be in contact with me to decide if they would replace my machine or try repairing it and send a senior technician.
On Monday, April 18th I got a voicemail while I was at work from HMS asking if I had received any parts or scheduled any repairs on the machine. So I called back and the woman I spoke to said that they were still reviewing my case and that there wasn't any parts ordered. Then on Tuesday, April 19th I received an automated call from the service repair place confirming my appointment for the next day.
I called HMS and they said that I was scheduled for a repair for the next day. No one ever contacted me to tell me that they had decided to try repairing the machine again let alone setup for another repair appointment. I was not going to be able to be available with that little notice. My next appointment was set for April 26th (earliest date I could take off work). HMS said that it was just a general repair that needed to be done and a general part needed to be replaced. So the part would be sent directly to the repair place. The previous part was mailed directly to my home.
For my April 26th appointment the first technician came to my house to service my washer again. He asked if I had received the part yet and I told him I was told the part would be sent to them. He said that they never do it that way and it should always be sent to the customers house. He ended up ordering the exact same part for my washing machine again even though I told him that the last technician said the last one did not fix the machine. I contacted HMS and they said it was not the same part and that they would reevaluate after the next service call.
I then called again that same day after finding the receipts that the technician provided to me showing that the exact same part was ordered. I then called again and requested to speak with a supervisor. The supervisor returned my call and contacted the repair place to find out why the same part was ordered again. The repair place told HMS that the first ordered part was faulty so that is why they needed to have a new one ordered. Yet they waited to order the exact same part until the third trip. There should not have been any reason to delay.
On May 5th I had another visit from the first service technician so that he could install the part he ordered. He installed the part (the exact same part that was originally ordered) and it did not fix the machine. It turns out there was absolutely nothing wrong with the motor. Now he thinks the problem is the motor control board and a part needs to be ordered. I contacted HMS to find out what the next step is. So far it sounds like it will be another service call and the technician isn't even sure that will fix it. The earliest time he can come back to fix the machine is May 12th.
There has been poor communication between HMS and the repair service. No sense of urgency in fixing my machine. They have spent literally hundreds of dollars on a very basic washing machine. I have had to take several days off of work for this and paid outrageous prices to do my laundry in the meantime. I question why I should even have a home warranty and what its purpose is. I feel like I have had to call every other day to HMS just to make sure they are staying in touch with my repair technician. HMS is perfect for someone who enjoys poor service and broken appliances! At this point I feel like I am in a hopeless situation and out my $100 deductible. I am not confident that this will be resolved anytime soon.

I'm very satisfied with HMS Home Warranty. They're fantastic and a peace of mind. Submitting a claim over the phone was very easy. They were polite and asked what I needed. I explained to them that I had a problem with my air conditioning and I was amazed that they looked ahead at the weather for the next few days. The weather temperature was projected to be 80 degrees so they set out as an emergency. I appreciate them doing that. The technician who came was very pleasant and knowledgeable. He introduced himself and came with all of his equipment. He checked the air conditioning and found it was a whole leaking freon. He called HMS first to see if he would be approved to do work and he was told to proceed. He's even put in extra freon. I will recommend them to a friend.

HMS Home Warranty has always worked for us for many years and it's affordable. I've put in claims and the process has been made much better. It's very convenient. The motor in our clothes washer has been replaced. The technician who came by was nice but wasn't professional enough. He was very easy going. He just said, "Oh, could you toss it over." It was not something that's very lightweight. To them, taking the clothes to them and to dispose us was the proper procedure, but he could have at least asked me where the recycling bin was so he could toss the clothes in it. I didn't want to say anything to him for he must be in a hurry so I just did it. But it wasn't really bad, and I'd still recommend HMS Home Warranty.

Our AC broke in early March and we contacted HMS Home Warranty who sent out a repairman to provide us with an estimate. Though we were quoted 2 weeks to review the estimate it took 4 weeks. When the estimate came back they said they would cover a fraction of the cost putting us out of pocket thousands of dollars. We called HMS who refused to contract a second opinion but said we are able to do so ourselves.
We called a reputable AC company to get a quote on a new unit and the man who came out said there were several issues with the repair quote from HMS (including unnecessary duct work and claiming our unit was out of code when it was not). The most alarming part is that the proposed fix from HMS would actually put our unit out of code. With this new information I called HMS to hear again that they do not provide second opinions but we could contract our own. Obviously the manager who I had to fight to even get to speak with was completely unconcerned that the solution would put our unit out of code.
Several weeks ago, in mid April we had our own highly reviewed service technician come out and we submitted the second estimate to HMS. We also included a note that the technician found cracks that could have led to a carbon monoxide leak. On all the documentation and every message I leave I have noted times that I am available to take phone calls. The case manager I was provided called outside those times. When I have called her back during their business hours there is no answer.
Calling the general customer service line is useless since you have to fight for over half an hour each time to get to a manager. Their claims of a manager will call you within 48 hours is a lie to get you off of the phone. I have been told that on three separate occasions and no manager has returned the call. I submitted our new documents 2 weeks ago and received confirmation that we would have a response in 3-5 days. Meanwhile we are suffering in a house with an overworked upstairs AC unit and a broken downstairs unit as the heat increases each day. I would strongly advise using any other insurance company because this one is completely unconcerned with your safety or time.

With HMS, it's easier to submit claims online, but sometimes getting the replacements make the process very hard. One of their customer service reps was good. The guy knew what he was doing so I didn't have to have multiple rounds. Overall, it's not a bad experience, however, after two or three calls and they do the adjustments, it seems the system breaks and they need to replace it quickly, but they take their sweet time. I don't understand why that is.

I own home for over 25 year, with home warranty for 15 years. For 11 years, I had a different a company which provided very good service without any issues. In 2012 we moved into new which came with warranty from HMS Home Warranty. We recently had an issue with refrigerator which needed to be serviced. Technician showed up on first business day but did not have required part and it needed to be. We were told part will arrive in 2 days and Technician will be back to fix it. Every day we started to get new date and eventually they gave us run around for a whole week. This part was readily available at multiple sites with 24-hour delivery but it still took them over a week to receive the part.
Eventually after full one week part finally arrived, technician came and replaced it. I never had this type of experience with any service provider. We received no update, kept getting run around and delays for no reason. We are in process of evaluating other options to replace them and go back to my original warranty company. I give them what I need to be done and they give me a number. I call whoever they give me and they take care of it. We've never had the same company twice for our claims, though.
We have a claim now for a circulating pump on a hot water heater for the bath. The pump has gone bad. The contractors checked it out and found the same thing that we got. Although I talked to three levels of claim consultants, managers, and consultant managers they told there was no way they could do anything. Here's the kicker. I called them back, they sent another plumber to my house, and they still didn't fix the problem. I called them and said, "Maybe you need to send someone a little bit more qualified." And they said, "Well, if you're not satisfied with the substandard technicians that we send to your house, you're gonna have to hire your own guy." I hired my own guy and in 45 minutes, the problem was fixed. So I'm very dissatisfied.

The initial process of submitting a claim seemed like it was fine. But then, if I could have put a knife through my eyes to deal with it for the next two times I had to deal with them, then I probably would have. When the first technicians knew that my claim won't be covered, they were nasty, dirty, and rude. They left quickly and deceitfully, without saying that they were leaving. And then, when the woman that called to say that it wasn't covered argued with me and told me I was wrong and I was more than welcome to pay to have it fixed on my own, and once I could prove that the leak was fixed, then they would cover the drain again.
She kept saying that I can't put Drano down the drain and take care of things myself. but I said that it's not in the instructions or in the warranty. So, she proceeded to argue with me. She tried to say I would be charged for a service call but I hope not. They came in and they plunged it twice. And when it didn't work, they left and didn't say anything. They can send me a bill but I'll send it to my attorney because I'm not paying it. And then, finally, I hung up 'cause I spent 45 minutes on the phone trying to debate a contract issue with somebody who's stupid. And she had no knowledge of the contract and how it functioned.
However, two days later, miraculously, somebody called and said she would like to send somebody out. And I was like, "Oh, well, you already told me it was covered." and she said, "No. This is now high-profile." So I gave my zip code and it was fixed in 24 hours. And the person they sent out the second time was awesome. So, although things started out horrible, my experience with HMS Home Warranty became awesome. However, that doesn't negate the fact that the experience initially was horrendous. If asked, I really couldn't recommend them because that would have turned somebody off immediately.

Also, the quality of work was excellent. The technician was very informative, quiet, mannerly, and has gone above and beyond. After everything was taken cared of, I was really happy all the way around.

The whole initial process seemed it was fine, but it was horrendous. If I could have put a knife through my eyes to deal with it for the next two times I had to deal with them, then I probably would have. When one of the technicians they first sent called an HMS Home Warranty rep, the rep called back and said they weren't gonna cover the repair. She argued with me and told me I was wrong. She also told me I was more than welcome to pay to have the drain fixed on my own, and once I could prove that the leak was fixed, then they would cover the drain again. She kept saying, "You can't put Drano down the drain. That you’ve taken care of it yourself." I said, "It's not in the instructions. It doesn't say that in the warranty, so I don't believe that." Who in their right mind is gonna spend a $100 service call if a $10 bottle of Drano is gonna fix it? She said, "Well, they're not gonna charge you a service call." I said, “I would hope not.” They knew they couldn't and that they would never get away with charging a fee for that.
She proceeded to argue with me. I hung up but spent 45 minutes on the phone trying to debate a contract issue with somebody who had no knowledge of the contract and how it functioned. The technicians were also nasty, dirty, and rude. They came in and plunged the drain twice. When it didn’t work, they left without saying that they were leaving. They left like they stole something. They didn't, but that's how quick and deceitful they left.
Two days later, miraculously, somebody called and said, "We'd like to send somebody out. We'd like to know what's best for you and you tell me what your zip code is." It was fixed in 24 hours and the person they sent out the second time was awesome. Although the experience became awesome, it started out horrible. I couldn't recommend HMS because that would have turned somebody off immediately.

I had warranty with someone else and that was quite expensive. Then a good friend told me about TotalProtect, so I got them since they're affordable. Submitting a claim was really fine, but the last encounter, I was without heat for a week. The person showed up but getting the part and then getting it approved was difficult. I had no problem with the team that came to service the appliance, but it was the wait that was ridiculous and I have a 92-year-old mother who lives with me and it was cold for her. I also had a problem with my dryer and there's one particular company that came out twice and twice I had to pay. But they wouldn’t fix it and I could hear the noise and so I was real distressed with the person they sent. I hope I never have to use them again. Other than that, TotalProtect is fantastic and I'm satisfied.

Around the year 2013 I was offered insurance on some of my services to my home (Electric, plumbing etc.) in 2015 I upgraded this to cover more items (Picture 2) I thought at least some peace of mind and yes, now I have upgraded I am totally protected.
On 21st April 2016 I called the insurance company to report my air conditioning unit not working. Today 22 April 2016 (Earth Day) the contractors recommended by the insurance company came to my house to fix the problem. I have to say two great guys, and they worked hard to find and try to resolve the issue. After around one hour they were not only able to diagnose the problem, but also do a temporary fix (Picture 3)
I live in a two story house with one AC unit two thermostats that are all fixed with a multi zone system one for upstairs and one for downstairs. The contractor, and not his fault told me he needed to get authorization as the part needed was around $700.00. Later that day I received a call from the insurance company to tell me (Bet you can’t guess) my claim was denied!! I was told that this was not considered part of the AC Unit and was a part to help control multi zone temperatures and an energy conserve tool. Go back to Picture 2 it clearly states Air Conditioning Systems!! Not units!! (System in the dictionary is very clear “A method or SET of Methods!! For doing or organizing something”)
The Multi Zone Board is part of my AC System. No, I was told this is part of an electric system attached to my AC. Sorry go back to Picture 2 first thing that is stated that my insurance covers is “Electric Systems”!!
Wait it gets better.
Sorry go back to Picture 2 one more time. You will see my insurance coverage covers Two AC Units these cost on average $4-8,000 each depending on size. I only have one that covers both floors of my house because of the Multi Zone Board, the cost of this around $700.00 I know my mouth dropped in disbelief of the insurance company’s rejection of my claim.
Okay I said it gets better, and it does. The other reason I was told for it being rejected is that in their opinion The Multi Zone System is an energy conserve and they don’t cover this. I could not believe my ears. A large company has no interest in conserving our planet energy, and helping us all for a cleaner environment. This all took place today 24th April 2016 which is “EARTHDAY”
I was and still am frustrated by the responses I got and asked to speak with someone in the claims department. I was told once a claim was rejected I could request a call back and this could take up to 30 days!!!! I was lost for words, and could only say WOW!! What customer service.
I hope someone from the Insurance Company sees this post and has the balls to pass it onto their president!

We’ve had a very positive experience with HMS Home Warranty. The claims process is very easy. People have dealt with us promptly. The service people who come out who are independent contractors have all been knowledgeable and been able to address our problems. We usually have to wait for somebody to answer the phone because the claims rep are busy but once they answer, they take the claim, talk to me, ask me what the problem is, assign me to another subcontractor and they send me an email about it with my claim number. I always get the contractor or the service rep to call me, set up an appointment, and they come and take care of it.
I have good interactions with the technicians that comes to service my appliance. They take care of the problem or they come back a second visit and take care of the problem after they talk to the warranty service to get approval. They do a very good job. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to continue the warranty service but after talking to other people who are homeowners down in Florida, I really do need that home warranty protection. So we decided to renew it and we have used it. Some things they don’t cover, I wished they did.

So far the home warranty experience has been decent. The only complaint that I have is that we have the plumber over for a $75 job but since it was a home warranty thing, he had to bill us an extra 25 which we don't like that policy too much. The plumber we've used has been very responsive and good to work with. The technicians HMS Home Warranty sent were courteous and did a great job. The quality of work was highly satisfactory. So far we're quite pleased with the service except for that one little money glitch.

It was easy filing a claim with HMS Home Warranty and the claims representative was attentive on the phone. The initial agency that she told me to contact, was out of business or the phone call didn't go through. But then I called right back and she gave me a different business to call. The representative came earlier than scheduled but he worked very hard and did a nice job. It was a little bit of a surprise. My son was there so it worked out okay. They did end up having to call me back to give me a higher price. It was supposed to be $100 that you just pay but then he didn't do it for $100. And I had to pay an additional $60 or $70. The Home Warranty said to agree to it. So obviously, you have a broken water heater, it's not something where you can say, "Oh, never mind. I don't want it." So I agreed and paid it. So far, so good and everything's working great.

I purchased a home that offered this warranty company, which at the time I thought was great. Our air conditioning quit working and we were provided one company to contact. We scheduled the appointment for two days after the call to them. Took off work. The technician came, walked downstairs and said it was working, and then went outside and said the unit was frozen and obviously leaking refrigerant. He was there for 20 minutes, said he would have to call the warranty company to see if they would even cover the problem, not informing what was leaking or how it could be fixed, and then stated they were booked the rest of the week. We paid 100.00 for 20 minutes, nothing fixed, and repair will be done maybe in a week or two when it's convenient to the one provider.
The customer service is nice when you call in, but fixing things in a timely manner seems to be of no concern to the warranty company or pre-qualified service provider. We have over 50 air conditioning companies in the area that would come access all the operating systems at no charge, explain what the problems is and have it fixed the same day, but instead we are left waiting on the service provider to relay to the warranty company what the problem is and then have to wait for the warranty company to decide if they will cover it or if the providers parts are too expensive. They then ship the parts (which are probably not actual OEM replacement pieces) to the service company which will take who knows how long and then have to be rescheduled for the actual repair to take place.

I found out about Total Protect through my mortgage company. $49.95/month had been attached to my mortgage payment for the last 6 years. I've used their services in the past with mixed outcomes. This Sunday, my refrigerator started making this horrible noise like I had a motorcycle in my kitchen. I placed my claim and was referred to Best Deals In Appliances Electronics and AC LLC. I looked them up and saw that they had bad reviews and the BBB gave them a C- rating. Red Flag #1
On Monday, I received a message from the young lady at the office to schedule an appointment. After playing phone tag, I was finally able to speak with her to schedule the appointment. They did not work on Monday's, so my appointment would be for Tuesday between 1p-6p. I called the warranty company back to find out if I could be referred to a company who could check out my fridge the same day and was told it wasn't an emergency so the company had 72 hrs to come out and just because the refrigerator was making a noise that didn't mean it was a mechanical failure and if it wasn't mechanical, they would not cover it. Red Flag #2
So Ramon came out on Tuesday, looked at my fridge and told me the compressor was overheating (sounds mechanical), and that it needed cleaning. He asked for the $60 deductible and wrote up the receipt. It took him longer to write the receipt than it did to look over my fridge. He told me to unplug the refrigerator for 2 days and he would be back after he heard from the warranty company. In the past, the techs called the company from my house after they did the diagnostics. Red Flag #3
The next morning, I woke up to a puddle around my refrigerator. Ramon had turned on the water valve and did not connect the ice maker line properly. What any of that has to do with the compressor, I don't know, but I had to deal with that clean up. I plugged my fridge back in because nothing I read last night mentioned unplugging the fridge for 48 hrs would solve a compressor issue. I then called the warranty company and complained, and they told me:a) His notes stated the evaporator coil needed cleaning and my fridge had poor maintenance so they weren't going to cover it. My fridge is 15 yrs old and this is the first issue in the 9 yrs I've been in this house & my warranty covers maintenance, that was one of the reasons I got it.
b) I could call him back and find out how much it cost to clean it.
c) I would need to talk to him about the water line.
I've already reached out to another company that does reputable business.
I wondered why Total Protect was still doing business with a company with such a poor rating and bad reviews. I don't have to wonder any more.

However, there was one little screw-up we had where they forgot to put in our order for a dryer, but they took care of it once they realized that the order hadn't been placed and it had been over a week.
Their technicians came out and took care of us. They were very careful when they brought the dryer in and ensured that they didn't scrape the walls, and they took the time to explain to us how the dryer works after they installed it. I called them and let them know what was going on, then they gave me a couple of providers in the area. I chose the one I wanted and got Ace Plumbing out. They told me what was going on and that they plan to tag the unit because I can’t use it. There was a small discrepancy in the quality of the merchandise HMS was having to put back in the house, but they still offered an alternative. They paid the max of what they would have paid for the old unit, and we paid the difference for a more efficient unit. I was also allowed to find a person whom I wanted to replace the unit. It still came out a win-win.

TotalProtect is economical and their service is excellent. The customer service reps are very cordial, amiable and nice. They seemed concerned about me and my needs. And they want to give me the best advice possible as to how I can resolve my problem. I tell them what I need and they tell me that there's someone in the area. They're great and I've told a lot of my friends about them. They've got more customers because I've told my friends about how well I liked the company and everything. Now they're fond of it too. But the deductible's gone up. What I pay, they pay more than that. My brother says I had to give them so much because I've had them a long time and things have gone up.
The technician was really nice at first. I had a crack on my toilet tank and he told the customer representative that somebody leaned on it and it's impossible. And he said that they wouldn't pay for it because it's supposed to be wear and tear. So I talked to the person on the phone, explained to her I've been in the house 15 years. When I bought the house it was over 30 years. It's never had another tank and it's impossible that I leaned on it because of where it's situated. She accepted what I said and told him to go ahead and fix it. It's an old tank in an old house. so he rolls out and was upset. He didn't even take the measurements or anything. He left then came back, got the measurements, left again and said he couldn't find it. I didn't think he could find a tank. He ended up having to replace the whole thing. I don't know what his problem was. But the work performance is great. I would recommend them.

We've always had good experience with HMS Home Warranty. Whenever we submit a claim, it doesn't matter what time of day or night we call. We always get an automated system at first and it picks up on voice response, which is surprising because a lot of companies don't. I stop to repeat it. With HMS, I get a live representative after. They get us the name of the company and the phone number. And we hear right back from Sears, a plumbing company or whoever it is.
Sears has been out here twice, once for our oven and once for the dishwasher. They're on time, knowledgeable, polite, kept to themselves but had a personality. We wanted them to put on booties, depending on the weather. Was in and out, told us if they didn't have the part or if they had to order the part, how long it would take. If they're running late, they would call us. In terms of the quality of their work, it has been very good. We'd had to have the hot water heater replaced. When I bought my home, the previous homeowners had offered a home warranty from HMS as part of the buying option. For six years, they've been very accommodating in getting people out to my house and one of the things that I've always appreciated was that regardless of the season, I had someone there usually that day, if not the next, although on this recent call, it was a surprise to me that they could not get somebody coming over the weekend. They said that the cost would be too high and I'd had to pay the final half myself. So, it seems to have been a change in their policy recently.
I've had three of four different companies come and they have all been very helpful, came in very courteous, asked where everything is, did their work, and told me, "What's going on?". So far, their work has been pretty good. However, I refused to have the other company back in. They left off on my air conditioning all of the caps and so the freon leaked out over the winter and I had to have somebody come in and refill it. Plus, their guy, who came in and pulled the air filters out, started asking me questions about when I last cleaned them and how the system was getting clogged up. Then, I let him go on and said, "Well, I clean that every six months and most recently within the last month." They kept trying to find a reason for why something wasn't working and it was my fault rather than fixing the problem. This has been a bad company.
Nevertheless, one of the things that's of interest to me is that HMS also says in the warranty that at some point, if the system is not repairable, they were trying to replace any equipment, like a standard air conditioner. My air conditioner is about 12 years old - it's getting somewhere into needing to be replaced. So far, I would recommend them.

We contacted HMS and they sent someone to look it over. Our furnace just passed the test that would guarantee a replacement, but luckily HMS agreed to replace it. We received the specs on the furnace they would agree to replace it with. Our regular heating and cooling company (that we also had check out the furnace) had never even heard of the brand. Our company told us that furnace would not last us more than five years and that it wasn't even the right furnace for the size of our house. On top of that, HMS told us we had to pay an additional $800 in "non-covered expenses." If we had purchased the warranty ourselves, we would already be $1,300 in just to receive a crappy furnace.
We ended up taking the check, which only covered $700 of the $3,500+ it cost us to put in the correct furnace. Since we didn't actually pay for the warranty, it turned out okay because I'd rather get $700 toward a new furnace than nothing. However, I would never renew this or recommend anyone I know buy this on their own. We had one of the most expensive items go out. Sometimes I have to call and call and call TotalProtect Home Warranty. I pay almost $50 every month. The first time they didn't come. I called but nobody answered. That wasn't my fault. Now, a plumber came and looked at everything. He told me that he'll try to find out if they could give me a new sink. I said, “Well, if it’s for free, it’s okay. But if no, you can do something. Make it a little bit soft..." I’m old and I have arthritis in my hand so it’s hard to move. He never called and he never did anything. I have to call again. It was a fine experience, though.

I had a warranty from another company for my other home but when we moved, the realtor purchased HMS Home Warranty for us for the year and I just kept renewing the insurance warranty. I can file a claim online or on the phone. It's easy and there are options if I'm traveling. One thing I like that HMS always do is follow up with their customer. HMS doesn't give me the phone number of the company if I'm having trouble with them. HMS contacts them for me.
I've had no complaints with the contractors since having HMS for two and a half years now except for one weekend when I had a bad experience with a local company. HMS made me submit a claim, approved it and sent me a check. It's always been very nice to deal with HMS. Other than that one minor, negative experience, it has been overall a positive experience with the technicians. HMS Home Warranty is dependable, reliable, and definitely worth the money that I'm paying. All of the repairs that I've needed have always been done without delays.

I have had Total Protect since 2009 and for the most part they have been a good investment. However I have seen their deductible go from $75 to $100, and now $125 and I have to argue with them to get them to (finally) honor their commitment to cover my appliances when they need servicing. It seems the primary responsibility of the person when I call is to say no. In researching other Home Warranty companies it was not hard to find others rated equal or higher than Total Protect and at lesser cost both for the coverage and for the deductible. Whether or not you have had a good experience with Total Protect, shop around and find the best value (which is more than monthly cost and deductible, if they refuse to cover your appliance when you need it than their value is zero!).

Initially, I looked at the paperwork with TotalProtect and thought that it's a nice thing. I called my bank and wanted to make sure that they were legitimate because they said it would automatically withdraw from my account if I agreed to accept TotalProtect as a company that we wanted to use. I told my bank that I didn’t want to do that.
I sent an email to TotalProtect and told them NO then they went ahead and started taking money out of my account without my permission. I never signed nor agreed to a contract. We were on the mission field from June-August so there wasn’t a lot I could do while I was out and we had three payments taken out while we were gone. We got back in August and I called them and said that they're taking money out of my account without my permission. The guy said he was so sorry. I told him that it doesn’t make a lot of sense to me that they would do something that arbitrary. I talked to my bank and asked them why in the world they agreed to this. The bank said that TotalProtect told them that I agreed to the contract, but I didn't. Then I went in and talked to the guy and asked for TotalProtect's benefits. He said, “Any home repair that you need in your home that qualifies under the contract, you can do this.”
I never used it until March as my ice maker went out in my refrigerator. I called them and it cost me $85. I asked the guy how much they would’ve done this for and he said probably $75 to $300, and so I’ve saved some money. Then the ice maker quit after three days. I got a hold of TotalProtect and they said that they’ll send them back out. I also told them that I got a leak in my washing machine that’s spilling water out on my floor. They said that they'll also send a repairman for that.
When the repairman got here, he realized that the door of the washing machine tore because we didn’t have proper shocks on it. He said there were only three and the main one from the back was missing from the manufacturer. He also said that the grommet on the front is bad. So I talked to the manufacturer to find out what they would do about that and told me I was out of warranty. The machine had banged since we had it. Every time we do towels it would drive me out of the house with the noise. Then the repairman came back and told me that the grommet is not under warranty because it’s not a mechanical problem.
I hit the roof. After all that I’ve been through with these guys, they would now tell me that wasn’t covered because it’s not mechanical. So I told them that the guy that went said it's broken because of a mechanical issue. They said that they were not covering it so I called my bank and put a stop payment on the account immediately but they didn’t put it through and they’re still charging me.
I just got a charge yesterday, $44.95. I told the guy to come on out as it’s got to be repaired and so I paid another $123 on top of the $85. But this young man was absolutely phenomenal. He realized that the shock in the back was missing from the manufacturer and he put all the shocks on for the $85 that I’ve paid and that would’ve been $400.
I’m looking at it and thinking that I came out on the top end of this, but it still ticks me off that a mechanical problem broke the grommet, and TotalProtect wouldn’t even speak to me. The lady got very nasty with me on the phone and I was pissed. I called back to Bay to Bay and told them how great their man was. It was redeemed because of him, not because of TotalProtect. Then the supervisor finally called me back two days later. I told him about it and it didn’t mean anything to him. They're still not covering the grommet no matter what broke it and it’s not under the warranty. So if somebody asks me to recommend TotalProtect, I’d tell them to run as fast as they can. I’m fairly disgruntled with them and I threatened to shut my account down with the bank. It's not what I expect from a company that’s coming through a reputable bank that I’ve been with for 15 years.

HMS Home Warranty warranties all the appliances in my house. My realtor uses it and said it's a good price and they always do good work. I have them for almost a year now. I've only submitted two claims and they were for the washer and dryer. I called them and there was an automated system. I was given the number of the local repairman, I gave them a call, and they came out within a week.
The technicians were both great. They were able to figure out exactly what was the problem and fixed it right up. Both issues that I had were very simple, so it only took them about 30 minutes or so to fix them. They were very polite and nice. The first problem wasn't really work that was performed since it was something that I did wrong and he pointed it out. For the second one, the dryer was making some noises. The technician made sure she replaced some of the pulleys and wheels in there and fixed it right up. I've not had a problem since. It was a $50 deductible to fix whatever the issues were.

I called to offer to pay for overnight delivery because the weather was going to be bad for the next couple of days below freezing and snow. They said they would send my request to mr ** and he was the only one that could approve it. They never called me back and the part did not arrive until the day after they promised it. On March 28 2016 I called an unrelated AC tech to do the regular annual service on my AC unit. At that time that tech informed me that the unit was low on R-22 and that the unit had developed a leak in the evaporator coil, from rust damage, and the leak was pretty severe. Turns out the unit had lost 6.5 lbs of R-22 in under 9 months time.
I called TotalProtect on March 28 2016 to make a recall on a claim from September that was not handled correctly at that time, the tech at that time found nothing wrong with the unit which isn't possible according to the tech from March 28 2016. The service date scheduled was for April 1st 2016 and the tech came out and started to diagnose the AC unit. The tech on April 1st told me that the unit was leaking in the evaporator coil, which I knew, and that he wanted to put a sealant in the unit to try to see if that would repair it. TotalProtect did not approve the sealant and instead approved replacing valves and running a nitrogen test to determine if any other item was leaking. The tech said it doesn't need new valves and advised me that TotalProtect would fight me to get the coil replaced.
On April 3rd I called TotalProtect to get a follow up on the status of my claim since there was no repair made to the coil. At that time TotalProtect informed me that the tech had told them that the repair was complete and the unit was functioning normally. They also told me the tech had not informed them of any leak in the evaporator coil and until they do so they cannot issue a replacement. I asked them to reach out to the AC service company to find out what was going on because the leak was not fixed, adding more R-22 and doing nothing else will not fix a leak.
On April 5th I called TotalProtect to again check the status of the claim which is when I first had an argument over the phone with their customer service department. They keep insisting that repairs were done so I demanded that they issue another recall to the company. On April 6th I called seeking another follow up which is when they told me that the AC service company has informed them that they had completed the repairs and put in a sealant at no cost. I know for a fact that none of the repairs were done except adding more R-22 because the tech told me so on April 1st as he was leaving.
At that time, April 1st, the tech told me that he wasn't allowed to put in the sealant and the valves were fairly new so he wasn't going to replace them. I asked him since the leak was so bad if I could expect to make it through the summer (in Phoenix Az) and he said not likely. The AC service company is lying to TotalProtect and TotalProtect doesn't care in the slightest. I keep getting hung up on by them when I begin to raise my voice.
The very least they could do is send a new technician out to do a proper diagnosis of the system. A nitrogen test, something like that, was approved and never done, on April 5th this was admitted to me by the tech when he called to find out why I had issued a recall. At that time he seemed surprised that I wanted the repair to be completed.

I got TotalProtect from Ocwen, the company that financed my house. Some of my experiences in submitting claims were good, some not very good. But it's not TotalProtect but rather their vendors that are trying to take advantage of the situation of a client like me. There are some that are very honest but I had a problem last time because I have a history with my air conditioner. I had my AC fixed last August and it was done.
However last January, winter time, my heater didn't heat. I called and TotalProtect sent another vendor who fixed the heater. I noticed that they were in a hurry. After they fixed it, I tried to test the AC to make sure it's working since the AC and the heater is one machine. They said they didn't touch the AC and I took their word. There was no problem so the vendor went. But when I tried to start my AC in April, it's not really cooling but it isn't very hot. Later that month however, the AC is not cooling anymore.
I called TotalProtect again and filed a claim. They assigned the same vendor who fixed the heater. I called the vendor on Saturday as soon as I got the claim number and talked to the vendor's representative. She said they will call on Monday to set up the appointment but late Monday morning came and I didn't receive any call from them. Hence I called them, they apologized and said they can do the appointment on Tuesday. I told them to make Tuesday a sure thing since I have to cancel my appointment.
However Tuesday came - the appointment was supposed to be around 10:00- to 1:00 - but their technician didn't call me. I called the vendor again and was informed by the same representative that the technician cannot come because he is running late for the other job. So the technician can only make it around after 3:30, if he will be here. I said I couldn't do that time anymore since I have to leave. I proposed to do it the next day, but to make sure that the technician shows up on the given time because I have to cancel appointments again. She gave me the appointment time of 11:00 in the morning.
Nobody called me again on Wednesday and I called them again. They said the truck was broken down and they only have one technician. I told them it was their problem but I don't want to be upset so I just cancelled and I called TotalProtect to send me another technician. TotalProtect sent the vendor who fixed my AC last August. I also asked them about the warranty of the deductible and TotalProtect said six months. It's been eight months already so it was no problem for me to pay the co-pay, but I asked them to make sure the technician is coming.
I called the newly assigned vendor again and they said they'll send somebody in one hour. Indeed the technician arrived in one hour. The technician was a very nice guy and asked me what's the problem. He did his job and checked everything, even climbed up to the roof. After fixing the AC, he asked about the company that fixed it before. He informed me that the AC was disconnected, hence the reason why I don't get cold air. I realized that the other vendor didn't show up for three days and was making excuses because they caused the problem on my AC. That's what gets me so upset - they can do this to me, how about the other clients?
I'm not upset with TotalProtect, I'm actually happy with them except for their vendors. Every time I had filed a claim, they act on it. Maybe they just have so many vendors, I don't know if the company can check them all. However, at the end of the day, the blame goes to TotalProtect. Sometimes they need to take responsibility too. They should at least do something about the bad apple.

Then they scheduled the next technician to come work on it again. The refrigerator was in the house when we purchased it and after doing some reviews. It is 12 years old. Each time I call (which is usually 2-3 times a day) they tell me they are still waiting on the technician to provide service reports. it takes 24-48 hours.
I'm so fed up with this entire process and will definitely look into different home warranty companies when time to renew. How do they expect people to live without a refrigerator or freezer for over a month and just keep scheduling technicians to come out again? Just replace it already. They were professionals and I was pleased with the way that home maintenance handled it. The technician told us what was wrong and that he had to get the part - it's a little valve. He came back and fixed it, and everything seems to be fine. I was also pleased when my washer went out that I had to get another one. And I went ahead and bought a new dryer. My old dryer was about 30 years old, but it was still barely running. They didn’t think it warranted being replaced and that the washer can be fixed. I've had a fantastic experience with TotalProtect. I've been using them for awhile. I had American Home Shield, but they kept going up on the deductible and they weren't even covering everything in my house. TotalProtect covers everything and they have a price that’s less than American Home Shield. When I submit a claim, they’d get right on it and take care of it.
A couple of times TotalProtect sent me some contractor that wasn't up to par, but they worked that out as soon as I complained about it. One interaction I had with Sears, a technician came here. He looked at the problem that I've already told him was happening. I told him I had a switch bad on my stove, so he came here and didn’t look at my stove, and he determined "okay you got a switch bad. I already know that one." And then he takes my $60 deductible from my daughter that I left with her. He goes out to say "well I can't fix it, I can't find the Sears on my own and so I'm going to ask somebody else come look at it."
I didn’t appreciate that. If he couldn’t fix it, then the $60 had to be transferred over to the other people they send out here. But he went and ran away. He didn’t know what he had to do, almost electrocuted himself because he didn’t cut the power off while he was working on it. And then finally I got GE to come over here and they took care of it. They had to buy me a new cooktop because they couldn’t find the part for it. So TotalProtect with their customer service knew about it and they did what was needed to make me happy. Right now I'm totally satisfied with it.

I bank with Bank of America and find their services outstanding, so for TotalProtect to be featured and recommended by Bank of America, it was a no-brainer that I choose TotalProtect over its competitors. It's relatively easy filing a claim. The last one I filed was about a plumbing problem. However, one time I called to ask a question about a freezer and the representative said, "Well, you know, maybe you should wait until after September because you recently placed a claim." So that got me thinking if TotalProtect only does one claim at a time or a year. The house I'm living in is getting older and things are happening so I was curious. But other than that, TotalProtect's service is fine and their representatives are cordial and professional, so I'm pleased.

When I called to submit a claim for our water heater, I wasn't able to get someone right away but instead of me having to call back, they took care of it. They found a provider that would come out within three days. It was very seamless and easy. They always follow up with me. I was looking to leave Home Shield so I googled home warranties and TotalProtect came up. To a certain extent, submitting a claim is easy. However, the first technician they sent out said he would be there from 12:00 noon to 4:00 PM on a Saturday but when I called at 4:00 PM he was still on the highway, so then I had to reschedule.
When the guy came, he checked and said, "Okay, you need another heater." I had already told him that my heater was leaking, which means that it needed to be changed since heaters aren't supposed to leak, and I had also told him what kind of heater I had (I gave him the gallon size and other specs), that I needed another heater, and that he should bring one. But he didn't come out with another heater.
Moreover, the guy that came and worked on the heater wasn't the electrician. So we had to bring an electrician after that. Although the job was done eventually, there was some inconvenience as far as time delay. Then again they wanted me to pay $80 to take the old heater away. That's their policy, but I don't like it. My whole deductible was $125, so I still have the heater, and I'm trying to see if I could pay somebody else $40 or $50 to take the old heater to the dump.

HMS Home Warranty came as part of the purchase of my current home and they're certainly worth the initial warranty period for the first year and the investment. Submitting a claim is easy for the most part. I’ve had to submit two separate ones and mostly I phone them up and they took care of the rest. Their online system for checking up on is lackluster, however.
The claims representatives were courteous and able to answer most of the time. The last time, when we had a problem with our hot water heater, the first vendor they sent was pretty much useless. They were making the same calls as I was making to vendors in the area, trying to get them out to look after the problem. Once we finally got a vendor out to the house, the actual claims adjuster was very good about getting us a generous settlement. The guy who replaced our garage door opener was fast, thorough, and quite good. The gentleman who replaced the water heater, once he got out there, also did a fine and thorough job. Then he charged me an extra $15 which I didn't even know was being charged. He also tried to charge even more for the extra half hour that he had to work on the repair, so it was not the best experience in the world.
But all the other contractors that HMS sent have been amazing. The last one who fixed our stove even gave us a number to call for some replacement parts in case we needed some. And then the person who came to work on our plumbing explained everything that he's going to do and everything that has happened. Both were really nice. Furnace repair for Ohio home in February... I experienced one of the worst excuses for customer service from Thursday, February 11 until March 16, 2016 - Claim # **. When I purchased the warranty in August 2015 I called to verify if Total Protect had someone to service my oil furnace. They said they did but if they couldnt find someone in the area they would use a repairman that I have used in the past with their approval, of course. . I am disabled (quadriplegic) walking with 2 canes but I work full-time. I was hoping repairs might be quick, not too painful in the winter. On February 11 I called and filed a claim for the furnace since the motor was grinding and making a whirling sound when it tried to start up. The temperature was 0-15 degrees. They gave me the phone number for Hubbs Heating. They called back and said they no longer had an oil person so I immediately called Total Protect. I explained that Comfort Zone in Columbus has completed annual maintenance work on my system. When their rep called back they said they found someone DSE Mechanical - 66 miles away in Jamestown, Ohio. On Feb 11 the house was 52 degrees and we had to go to a hotel. Jump ahead past all the phone calls - DSE diagnosed the required part as a fuel oil burner pump and they would install it on Feb 19 (8 days and no heat). In the meantime I argued with them to allow the local repairman (Comfort Zone) to fix it and they authorized the Part/repair of an oil burner pump as $341.50. On Feb 17 Comfort Zone found that the part was misdiagnosed and it required a a blower motor ($484). On Feb 19 I sent a lengthy letter and both invoices to Total Protect and they have NEVER called me back to inform me of the reimbursement. Apparently on March 11th they authorized a check for $341.50 for a part that was never installed and was misdiagnosed by an inept company 66 miles away when competent repair people were available in a large metro area. If we used their repair company we could have been without heat for 12 or more days in the winter... unacceptable!!! Now, they won't reimburse $140 more to cover the cost - pathetic! !

We've had horrible experiences with this company. As another person wrote on this site, they send out subcontracted workers who tell you one thing during the inspection then write reports that say something else which causes your claim to be denied. This has happened to us with both our claims. Lies are told by the contractors, then by the phone account people and there are no supervisors that can talk to you. They will call you back in a 24 hour window. It took over 4 weeks for us to get our dishwasher fixed. So many lies, and we had to take pictures to prove that the subcontractor lied. And endless hours on the phone.
Now we are having the same issue with our built in microwave. Contractor comes out, doesn't fix it. HMS then sends out a new contractor who fixes it but now HMS is saying that it is a different issue and we have to pay twice. THE FIRST GUY DIDN'T FIX IT. We had the washing machine replaced not too long ago and it was good having it replaced in a fairly timely manner. The parts to fix it exceeded the cost of the washing machine but HMS still replaced it so that was great. But when it comes to the major thing like the heating and air unit which is a lot of money, they would just rather keep fixing the problem when they know that it's probably way past the warranty. We were having trouble with the air conditioner, which is over 30 years old. We all know air conditioning units aren't gonna last 30 years. You'd be lucky if you could get them to last 20 years, and it's not even rated at its efficiency for 2016 (that's how outdated it is). The guy told me that it was rusted out and not in good shape. The compressor outside has too much pressure on it because it was being overworked. But they still wanted to replace the one part in the house, not the part that's outside.
So now me and my husband had to weigh that and we decided that we could fix the air unit by getting the part that they needed to fix on the inside and hoping that the one on the outside wouldn't go out when winter comes or is not rusted out so bad that the heater wouldn't work. Then we just decided to work out the money and get a new unit instead. There's also extra expenses that aren't included and that's upsetting. I know some of the stuff that HMS allows and pays for and some that they don't allow, but we pay $100 and think that everything is covered under it only to be told, "Well, we don't pay for that. This we don't pay for." That is its big downside. Right now we're trying to weigh whether it's even worth keeping the home warranty.

But HMS Home Warranty was able to send another plumber immediately. Still, I shared with them that they shouldn't be using contractors who have that reputation or who are known not to be reliable.
Then I had a real shock with my most recent electrical claim. I haven't been able to find the language that was referenced in my contract, but my understanding was I've got one deductible per trade. I've had a previous electrical claim which I've paid the deductible on. I had another claim a couple of weeks ago and they said I owe a deductible on this one since it's supposed to be per call, not per trade - it's only per trade if multiple services were performed. I told them that didn't make sense. HMS said that there's something about it in my contract but when I looked at it, it really didn't answer my question. Since the renewal time is coming up, I'd have to decide if I'd be interested in keeping the warranty and see if the $100 per service call is a good value or I could get something better somewhere else.

The claims representatives were very polite and positive. The technicians have all been very professional, friendly, and have done a good job. Unfortunately, most times they have to get approval first. Then the parts are ordered, we wait, and the parts are put in. My appliances that needed to be fixed were about nine years old, and the company I bought it from is already owned by another company. So we had to order parts like the thermostat or some type of burner for my glass top range for the technician, and it can be untimely. Other particular vendors have the parts on their truck and they can get authorization to put them on, which is easier.
The techs did a good job with the repairs. The plumber who came in to replace the garbage disposal was excellent. He was in and out and knew exactly what he was doing. Since the appliances were older, they were a little more complicated. HMS requires a $100 deductible for each occurrence, and it is steep for me. But so far I'm very pleased with the company. The only thing I’m dissatisfied with is their protocol in having to order the parts rather than letting the technicians take care of it.

I usually go online, but I've spoken with a rep twice and they were very informative and helpful. The technicians have been perfect and I have no complaints about the repair work. Overall, it has been an excellent experience with TotalProtect.

When I bought the house, the previous owners paid for the one-year coverage with HMS and I kept it. When I filed a claim with them I had problems with two of the people that came to the house. They came and stayed a couple of hours looking over the problem. One was with a plumber, but I needed a plumber/electrician so he told me what he could do and didn't do a single thing. He probably felt bad about not doing anything so instead of charging me $75, he charged me $65. He knocked off $10 but HMS did return the $65.
Then, on the heating and cooling unit, it was not that great. The guy came in and looked at the unit. Then he came back with the part but complained that the part was $65 or $62. That's not much at all since I've been paying $75 on the frontend. And instead of installing it, he said that my ductwork was not adequate for the system. That's impossible because when he first came into the house, I had a return and a service vent in all of the rooms that were being serviced. That is highly unusual. He said, "Well, this is how commercial buildings are set up. Usually, there's a return in the hallway and if you close the doors, then you don't get any air. It just shuts everything off." So what he told me on the frontend and what he said at the end was not consistent.
I had also paid $250 on my own to have somebody come in and service the unit in the fall and in the spring. And this is when problems were found. So I had those people come back and do an efficiency study on my unit and adequacy of the ductwork. They weren't the people that installed the unit but someone locally that I hired. They said that it was quite adequate and there was no problem with the unit. So then, HMS sent somebody else out. He found that the fan was off of its tracks. So he remounted the fan and that took care of the problem. But they never replaced the part that the initial people said might be defective. So there's the runaround and it took a while to resolve the problem.
Also, when they worked on the air conditioning, it took quite a while for them to actually do the work which was the upstairs unit so I didn't have air conditioning upstairs for a week or two. It was a rather warm weather and I felt like it might have dried out my wood and my floors are kind of creaking out. It might not be their fault but you can't prove that anyway. I also had to call for a garage door that wouldn't close. It would come down and bounce back up then finally, I couldn't get it to close. I paid $75 for the tech to come out and didn't get a break on that visit.
The last visit that I had for an appliance was a dryer. The gentleman who came out to fix it did an excellent job. He came out, took the unit apart and showed me all the problems and why they were doing it. Then he came back and replaced the parts that he felt it needed. It's about $400 or $500 a year, plus I had to pay the same thing as if I didn't have that insurance. That doesn't seem very great. I'm not renewing the warranty and I don't think it was worth the money. I had a lot of high-end appliances also, and I had a wine cooler that went out, which they don't cover. Overall, some of their people did a great job and others didn't. It was kind of a hit or miss with them but you have trouble like that even if you call anybody.

A friend of Marjorie had mentioned TotalProtect and we went with the company because of what she has heard about them and the TotalProtect rep she had talked to. Claim submission is an easy process. Marjorie is the one who deals with the claims rep. The techs who came have all been polite and knew what they were doing. What wasn't done right the first time, the techs came back and took care of it.

I received a one-year subscription for HMS when I purchased my home. I've submitted two claims which were answered promptly and the situation was taken care of. In both cases, they were very courteous and seemed knowledgeable about what they were doing. I paid them and they left. Their quality of work has been fine, too.

I liked what TotalProtect said they would cover, how the service would be handled and the pricing as well so I went with them. Most of my interactions with the technicians have been good. They seemed knowledgeable, helpful and ready to do the work. I've had a few claims, some of which had been easy, but I have one that's been difficult. If I could get them to resolve this last issue, I'd be very satisfied but right now, they haven't.

The realtor when we purchased the home introduced HMS to us. Claim submission was expedient, they would cooperate really well. Everything was fast - it took about three days, which they say is normal, so everything was fine. Also, the technician was very courteous and knowledgeable and I'm very pleased with the quality of work. It was a fantastic experience.

HMS has been very prompt when I submitted a claim with them. They bend over backwards and have directed us to the right resources. For the most part, all the technicians have been very helpful. However, I’ve had one situation that happened most recently where the technician himself was helpful but the company that he works for has not always been upfront with me. It’s all worked out though.

Submitting a claim was a piece of cake. They immediately sent out a contractor who checked and informed TotalProtect about the water heater and replaced it. The techs were very professional and the repair work done passed the city inspection with flying colors which was great. It's a good deal to have TotalProtect. It gives peace of mind.

I got a letter from my bank recommending Total Home Warranty and I’ve had a positive experience with their technicians. They’ll always come back at my convenience. They tell me how much of a time period I’ve got on this repair and give me their card to be able to get in contact with them. Submitting a claim has been an easy process. I’ve only had one true disappointment. My dishwasher has not been working so when they came out they said they would check it out. They then told me that the home warranty service did not cover it. Apparently there were some insect droppings in the control panel on the dishwasher, and the home warranty did not cover anything to do with insects. I was just disappointed with that because basically I don’t use my dishwasher.
I do recommend them to friends all the time, especially people who are having problems with any appliance. I ask them “Do you have home protection?” and they’ll go, “No.” I'll say “You ought to. For a charge of $44.95 a month everything is covered and all you have to do is a service call for someone to come out." I’ve probably paid in more than what I’ve used but it’s nice to not have to worry that I have to fork out a huge amount of money to have somebody come out and take a look at it.

The previous owner of the house I bought had purchased a one year HMS home warranty. I file my claims online and I didn't have any type of problems in this regard. The first people they sent out couldn't fix the microwave so they ended up having to send somebody else. It was pretty much fine, nevertheless, and I'm happy with the quality of their work. Every claims rep I've talked to at TotalProtect has been good and real helpful. Technicians were good too except for one. We have faucets leaking in our kitchen and bathroom. When the technician came, he changed the faucet and said we need a new P-trap. He said he'll fix it for $130. I already paid $85 for them to come and fix my issue. He said that he doesn't have time to fix it that day. So I called TotalProtect and they took care of me. That's the only other trouble I've ever had. I recommend them to a bunch of people. There's a lady across the alley and she got older appliances. I told her that she ought to check TotalProtect.

It looked like TotalProtect's plan was better than most, the price was right, and it was built into my mortgage payments so I got them as my home warranty. They've been great, although claims submission started off very difficult. I had power outage late one afternoon. I had just gone shopping, I needed an electrician, and they couldn't get one for a couple of days. So we went round and round but eventually we found one that worked. The technician who fixed the circuit breaker to my house and refrigerator was great. The electric was evidently old and the technician had to order one to be overnighted. He had the electric temporarily rigged to keep myself and the freezer cooled. Then he fixed it within the day when his order arrived.

Submitting a claim with HMS has been frustrating because of where our house is located (we live in a rural area). Most of the people that HMS contracted won't come out here. So for the garbage disposal for example, it took over a month to get someone out here. For the microwave, it took around three or four months. In order to get the plumbing done with the dishwasher, I had to pay out of pocket for a plumber to come out. I got reimbursed for it later but it was a hassle. The reimbursement part was easy though - I just had to fax them some paperwork and it was good to go from there. Also as far as services go, HMS itself has been good and I'd recommend them. It's not their fault that the service people don't want to do the job.

However, I had asked about a referral for my friend and they were supposed to get back to me but didn't.
The two technicians that I had were pleasant but the first one working on the heater didn't seem to take care of the problem although he told me he had checked out my unit and everything was running great. I had to call back again because the unit stopped. He actually came back but this time we didn't even know he made a reset and left again without us knowing. So that took a longer time, but finally they found another company which did a great job.
