I’m the homeowner and we make the payments for TotalProtect. They came through our bank. I looked into it, decided it was something good for us and we pursued it. The most recent claim was for the water heater. It took some challenges to get it done, but we did. Several plumbers came out and the last plumber that came wanted to charge us $900 on top of getting the water heater replaced. I opted not to do that. I requested a buyout. So, I got the heater replaced myself and they did the cash-out. I wished that the trades that they sent out would be a little more responsive. It took a few plumbers to get out here in order to get this thing resolved. The same thing with my oven. That was an ongoing thing, but finally we did a cash-out with that, too. But the bottom line is we got the job done. We are satisfied with TotalProtect.

HMS Home Warranty came with my house and I had it for my safety net. I had a couple questions when I first started. To get to someone that was actually helpful on the phone was pretty difficult. They sent me to a foreign country and I gotta beat around the bush for about a half an hour, and then they sent me back to the States. Once I got there, the woman that I got on the phone was super informative, and she told me I could upgrade my plan for a small fee. I actually ended up doing it ‘cause she explained it. I didn’t think she was trying to sell me. They were extremely helpful and they cleared everything up for me.

Submitting a claim was super easy. I was having an issue with my furnace, and within minutes, they scheduled someone to come out later that week. It was a really good service. The contractors were totally professional. They spent an extensive time fixing my issues. I’ve heard issues with other home warranties where they say they’re gonna cover but they don’t. I haven’t had that issue with HMS, so I was pleased.

I recommend TotalProtect all the time. We've been with them for 12 to 15 years and there's been no problem in the claim submission process. Everyone that has come have been professional and nice as well. We had a problem with them once. Our hot water heater went out, and they changed a bunch of stuff in between and we never got notified of it. But they backed us, got us on the right program again and fixed it. So they did the right thing.

HMS Home Warranty came with the home and then I saw the benefits. I've been with them for two years now. When submitting a claim, it takes pretty long and the people that come aren’t knowledgeable. The one guy who came out when I initially had a toilet issue lied about a flood in the house. He said it was gonna cost a couple thousands of dollars and it ended up being a $5 fix for the pipe on the back of the toilet, and there was no flood damage. When I called initially, I think one of my first calls was about my dishwasher backing up. The guy came out and took my deductible -- a hundred and something dollars. He told me to pour apple cider vinegar in there and it should help out. He didn’t do any work. It just so happen that I had a personnel with the house that was able to fix the toilet.

Most recently, the dude that came out for my fridge, I had to wait for a week and a half, to get my fridge fixed. I had to throw out all my food. He came back with a light bulb and said that he thought that it was the light that was broken. Then he finally said that it was a part that he had to order and then he told me he couldn’t order the part, that the warranty had to order because they order so many that they get it cheaper. I told him to just fix and that I kept taking off from work for him to come and taking his phone call. It was taking way more. I had to call him and asked if he was coming yet, when he was gonna be here or if the part came. It was a barrier to something that I had to have 'cause at the end of the day, it was cheaper, but it has been horrible.

HMS is definitely good to have especially if something goes wrong. But each time I’ve had something go wrong, the people that are coming out are strictly trying to get the deductible. As far as their knowledge of what’s actually going on and me paying for stuff, they’re either trying to rip it off. HMS might even wanna look into this.

When I submit a claim to HMS, I do it on the phone. I tried and worked it online once but that wasn't working. So it's just easier for me to call. But I don't have any trouble when I set it up. My recent claim was for my washer which was not working correctly. It would finish cycles and it smelled a little warm, like electricity-wise. They contacted Sears to do this. I submitted on a Friday and they came on that day. It turned out that the timer was not working and that's what was replaced. It seems to be working better now. Sears was nice enough to give me what their price would've been, 'cause I don't think anybody else is done. It would've been about a $300 house visit with the parts. And so, it cost me $100, so that was good. My house is about 25 years old, and that's when things begin to break down, so the warranty has been useful for me.

Submitting claims with TotalProtect has been easy. When we call in, they get back with us and set up a time for the repair. Once we get in contact with the contractors, they communicate well. But sometimes, things happen on a weekend and they don't get back to us until Monday. However, they come out when they say they’re gonna be there and they complete the work. TotalProtect helps a lot with bills. With our water heater, it was over $600. At first, the contractor thought it was just leaking a little bit, but then the water heater just stopped and wouldn’t get hot. We called and they ordered the part. And it took a couple of days for that to get in. We've been with TotalProtect since we bought our house eight years ago and we're happy with them.

TotalProtect doesn't wanna cover me anymore for my home. So, I'm not very happy. They told me they're pulling out of Florida, but then they're still covering my rental. That doesn't make any sense. I think it's because my air conditioning kept breaking down, so they don't wanna cover my home anymore. My rental has very few issues. The technicians are fine, but then, they're separate companies.

When our water heater went out it had to be replaced, and then they sent us a check for half of what we paid, which was kind of sticky because they told us it would be three weeks before we got a water heater. I don’t know about them, but I don’t take cold showers. I wasn’t going three weeks. But the person did come out and fix the thermostat. Apparently, it was a part that needed to be replaced. That was the third time that a part has been replaced. But the young man did a good job. He was very nice and was on time.

He also said that he would send a note to Cross Country letting them know that eventually that the part is gonna have to be replaced. We haven’t heard anything since. So I’m waiting to hear from him. But so far Cross Country works pretty good for us. We got a fairly new house and don’t have a lot of issues. But in this day and age things are expensive. So having the home warranty service is handy for us. If something goes out, not everybody’s got the money to fix it. So the $100 deductible is reasonable.

It's amazing that I pay my monthly fee and HMS has no problem with taking the money but I can't seem to get my claims covered. I am contacting the attorney general and reporting a bait and switch gimmick. I thought the point of home warranties is for a peace of mind but I see this is not the case.

On the phone, the service was awesome. The service people coming into my home were polite. Within 24 hours, everything was resolved. The very worst thing was that it took me three weeks to get my refrigerator. I had to be without a refrigerator for three weeks. But otherwise, I could do nothing but gush about how wonderful everything went. Submitting a claim was very easy. Everything about HMS was just what the Realtor told me it would be. Everybody could tweak, but all in all, I would be one of those old people in the commercial saying, "And they came in fast." They were the best.

In most cases, the process when submitting a claim was very easy and fast. There was one time where the vendor came and did the work but it wasn't good. When we called them again, they would not come back. I told HMS and then it was going in circles for a while. They kept on contacting that guy but he never came. Then, I had to pay another $100 out of my pocket for someone else to fix the plumbing issue. I would recommend that when somebody doesn't come back to fix what they fixed incorrectly the first time, HMS should drop them from their list as a vendor. Other than that, I didn't have any issues and overall, I’m happy with HMS. I bought my second house. It's a rental property and I have it insured with them.

When I purchased my home, it was suggested that we go ahead and get the home warranty just because it would be a good idea. So, we got it and we paid the extra $100 as well to get the updated package which saved us. We weren’t in this home for three months and the heat exchanger on the propane heater had rust holes all in it and the evaporator cooler on the AC side had holes in that. When I submitted a claim, everything went along very smoothly. Once all the information from the service provider was given to them, they processed it and took care of it good. I'm very happy and satisfied with the service. The contractors were very respectful and they did a good job. I was out of town and our washer wouldn't perform a hot water cycle. The technician from JGF MECHANICAL SERVICES - MD, 240-586-1415, came out and saw that the washer was apparently working because one cycle started. The technician didn't use the available diagnostic mode on the washer to display diagnostic information. After I returned home I was able to troubleshoot our washer today, after a few minutes searching the web, I found how to enter diagnostic mode on our washer and immediately found Error Code E2 F3 indicating the inlet water temperature was incorrect.

After manually operating the washer I was able to turn on cold water in maintenance mode, but the hot water did not turn on. This indicates a problem with the water input valve ($90) or the Control Electronics ($366). I'll perform additional troubleshooting to determine which part it is. The technician should have been better trained on the maintenance modes available for Whirlpool equipment. I feel that my $100 deductible was wasted and I should be refunded the deductible because the technician was unable to accurately troubleshoot the problem with our washing machine.

The experience with TotalProtect went pretty good this time. It wound up there was a broken wire on the furnace and the thermostat was bad. The contractor was okay. It was him and his son that came. The one thing he did do right off the bat was he inspected the furnace to make sure it was even safe to be operated before he did anything. I appreciate that because that way, you know that the furnace is in good operating order. He's not gonna do anything with it. Then he fixed the broken wire, but he stopped at that point, and I had to call back in two days to have him to come back out. He came back out, and this time he kindly let me talk to him a little bit as far as what I thought. He got looking at it and agreed with me then that that was probably the problem. He repaired it and it's worked fine ever since.

I wish there was somebody around closer to my area to do the work because these people are travelling quite a distance to come. Consequently, I might have to wait a little longer than some people to get service. The last two times prior to this, I was very unhappy. In fact, I was about ready to quit and go with somebody else. They couldn't get anybody to come out here, and they wanted me to do the calling and hire a contractor to come out here. Then they wanted me to have the contractor to abide by their rules or regulations. I didn't feel that that was my job as a customer.

Calling in my claim was great and the customer service was great too. A-1, the last company they sent out, did a good job. But the one they sent out the first time sucked. That guy, when he came out, he did not want to do the job. One of my drains is in the front of the house and he did not want to snake that. He did not want to snake my toilet again when he came back. I was like, "I think the problem would be solved if you guys either pull the toilet up." He had to do that, but he didn't. And then, he came back a second time. I asked him if he could snake the toilet again, but he wouldn't. They were lazy. I then told HMS that I never wanted them to come back and asked if they could send me somebody out.

Also, when somebody is going to have to pay extra money, it needs to be made clear that that is what we are going to have to do. The people that I talk to in the customer service tells me I do not have to pay any money. But then when the company comes out, they tell me that I have to. I then tell them that I already paid 100$ deductible and that I was told that I don't have to spend another dime. It's like certain people are trying to get money out of you.

It’s super easy to submit a claim. I don’t have to call anybody. I can just go online, submit the claim and I'm done. Every single contractor I've had has been amazing. I would absolutely recommend HMS Home Warranty because it’s been the easiest. I would never want to do these repairs by myself.

    History:
Opened claim for leaking water heater
Total Protect assigned a plumber to the claim
they diagnosed the issue, and estimated the cost which included $425 that was not covered by the warranty

Service was performed - service techs did a great job on the install and the revised plumbing.

    Issue:
they had to move the washing machine to install the new water heater, expansion tank and plumbing. When they put back the washing machine they did not put the drain line back into the pipe - which I did not notice.
later that evening I put a load of wash in the washing machine and went to bed. I was awakened by a call from my security company that a water alarm was going off in my house. i found the bathroom and entryway flooded with at least 1/4" of water everywhere - it was actually beginning to soak into the carpet in my office. The washing machine had drained onto the floor.
It took a couple of hours to clean up that mess including pulling out the washer and dryer. water seeped under the moulding so now I am going to have to pull the moulding off to ensure that I don't have any mold issues. Also, there is a vinyl tile floor in the bathroom and there were places where water got under the tiles.
I paid out of pocket $550 ($125 deductible/$425 for new code reqt - expansion tank + piping mods). While this was an honest mistake by the plumber - it caused a lot of work for me.
TOTAL PROTECTS REMEDY FOR MY INCONVENIENCE AND EXTRA WORK - ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! They reminded me that the deductible was in my contract and the non-covered costs were billed directly from the plumber.

This is how they treat a customer that has been with them for more than 15 years! I will be cancelling my service contract and I will relay this story to everyone in my network. Perhaps their "customer service" managers should re-read what it takes to retain a customer versus obtaining a new one.

The people that we purchased the house from had paid HMS Home Warranty for one year. The warranty expired after a year and I repurchased it again. And I've now had service for over a year. On January 1st, the furnace went out. We were in the middle of one of our patented polar vortexes in Wisconsin and we had no heat. It was a very frustrating situation because we were extremely cold. With the wind chill, we were in the negative 30s at that point, and I have kids. Luckily, we had a fireplace. But we didn't realize that they had no HVAC providers in our area at all to come and work on it. The only numbers they had were people that were over two hours away, and those people laughed at me on the phone and said they were not doing it.

I did some research and I found a guy in our local area who would be willing to accept third party payments. It took me almost two weeks, but we finally got everything resolved and I now have a furnace. It was basically working hand-in-hand with a supervisor after everything fell apart multiple times. But once everything got done, I was very happy with how everything went. Our dishwasher also went out not long ago and HMS Home Warranty had somebody out on it, had it up and repaired it within a week and a half. If they're willing to sell a warranty for an area, they need to make sure that they have plenty of service providers in that particular area. To spend however much in a year, and then find out that there are no service providers in the area, that's bogus.

Whenever I submit my claims with HMS they send someone out as little as a day or as long as two weeks depending on what the issue is. With my recent claim I had a blocked-up toilet, and it took a little less than a week. The contractors were very satisfactory. I’d have the same crew back again without any hesitation at all. Occasionally they will refer me to someone who doesn’t service my part of the world. Their geographic locator system doesn’t always work right. I’ve had that happen twice. But overall, HMS is pretty good in terms of the technicians that eventually get here.

I even did it online and they responded within 24 hours, which was good. It was less than expected. I like that TotalProtect chose whoever was closer to the area. We thought our heater broke. The contractor came out and said it was the thermostat. That worked for a few weeks. Within a week of that happening, our dishwasher broke. Our dishwasher a two-door one and kind of hard to find, but it got taken care of no problem. Then the heater started not working again. As it turned out, it was a heat vent so the contractor came back out and fixed it again. The second tech was much more thorough than the first. And because we’d already made the initial claim, they didn't charge us the $100 to come back out for the second one. HMS has paid off and I couldn't be happier with my experience.

I've had TotalProtect since we bought the house in ’93. In the beginning, submitting claims was good. Then, it was kinda bad for about a year or so. Some people must have complained because the service is back at being good again. We were happy with the last time we did a claim. We had 3 guys come over to fix our washing machine. The 1st guy was young so he was really inexperienced. He ordered 2 parts but one part wasn’t necessary. The next guy wasn’t that experienced either. We asked for an experienced guy and when the final parts came, the 3rd guy was great. He was probably in his 50s and knew exactly what to do. He found the problem right away and put in the parts. He was probably done within less than two hours. The washing machine is now working perfectly. I even did three loads yesterday. Thank goodness ‘cause I didn’t have my machine for about 10 days.

I’ve had HMS for a couple of years now and Titan Heating & Air, the first HVAC system company that they sent out, was terrible. They did some shady things to my HVAC system. There was supposed to be two capacitors and when my system wasn’t working, they ran everything to one. So, whenever one part of the system would cut on, they would cut on the other part. My utility bills were $600 a month and I didn’t know why for a year, Eventually, somebody from Sears came out and looked at it. They told me that they couldn’t touch it because somebody else did the work wrong and they didn’t wanna be liable.

HMS made Titan come back out and undo what they did but then, they wouldn’t fix the leak in my refrigerant which was upsetting because every six months they would recharge the refrigerant. HMS sent somebody else out and they looked at it and told me that the system has been messed up for a while. I ended up having to get it replaced. That was a random $1,500 I wasn’t planning on paying because it was replaced. But I’d rather get it addressed than have to keep calling somebody out every six months for the same issue. HMS reimbursed me for my deductible. They were good to work with so, there are no complaints on my end.

We paid for three years of coverage upfront to lock in a lower annual rate, $200 deductible. Eight days ago our heat stopped working, as of now we are renovating so not staying there. It took three phone calls over five hours to have them authorize a local tech to come and assess the problem. The tech was given authorization to purchase the part. Of course, before the tech even looked at the heat pump, a $200 check had to be written. As of now, no one knows where the part is, the local tech will not return phone calls but the $200 check was cashed. No painters or other contractors will work until the heat is repaired. So the longer we are without heat, the longer the stop in renovations and the longer we pay a mortgage on a place we cannot even live in.

I asked if this was not considered an emergency, and I was told no. And if pipes burst due to low temps, I was also told they are not responsible. Not only will I never recommend this company, but I will go out of my way to tell people not even to consider a home warranty with them. I wish we could use our HVAC person, but since he is not on their authorized list he cannot do any of the work. Bottom line, we are out $1250 for three years of coverage, $200 deductible check that has been cashed and 8 days without heat. And they say this is not an emergency. Next call is to the PA Attorney General to lodge a complaint.

I have to log in two different log-ins to look at two different contracts. And it's easier always for me to talk to someone rather than type. And so, you're being forced to go online to do what I'm doing. It hits me the wrong way sometimes. I don't like it when companies do that. I would prefer an option.

The TotalProtect technicians I've had have been excellent. But I'm a little bit uneasy with those working with air conditioning in Alabama. I had a problem this summer with the AC which was leaking water. It was a stopped up pipe. The young man sent to us insinuated that TotalProtect wouldn't cover it and that they'd want pictures. I've never had that problem before so that concerned me. Also, Birmingham is a big city and the air conditioning people that provide service are from Tuscaloosa which is about an hour away. In the end, I went ahead and had my AC fixed separately. But for all the years that I had been a customer and for the $125, it certainly should've been covered. Then in January, I had a claim for my disposal that died and the contactor put me in a new one. They also unstopped drains for us and replaced my dryer several years ago.

I've been with TotalProtect for a long time when their copay was $75 and now, it's 125. I wish they'd put a stop on that though because I'm old and I live on a fixed income. That gives me a pause before I call and I wanna make sure that my claim is covered. The monthly charge has gone up too but I can deal with that better than I can with $125 copay. Still, I'm satisfied with TotalProtect.

One of my neighbors has actually, since moved in, signed up for it. Sometimes, it's been a little awful with HMS, but you gotta take it with it. When I have an issue, I call them. It takes a while to get through, but I do get somebody.

I will be with HMS for 22 years this March and as a woman who lives alone, I feel comfortable having these people come into my house who I don’t know because I know that HMS has researched them and they’re keeping track of them. You can do your claims online with them but it’s easier to call. I recently had a claim for the faucet. It won’t turn on and it took HMS a day and a half to send someone out but it wasn’t their fault.

The contractor said that he would call me when he gets the report from HMS and then, the next day, he called and told me that he couldn’t do it that day because he was booked. The guy asked if I could wait. When he came, he told me that the claim wasn’t covered and he couldn’t fix it. So, I had to pay him the deductible which I didn’t have to because it was a recall. He was the same guy who came out to fix the same problem in December. I called HMS and I complained and they’re gonna help me out. So, I am content with the resolution of that issue although it was a bit frustrating. But normally, I don’t have an issue with anyone that HMS has sent out.

I called about a plumbing issue, and they told me that nobody was available in my area. Eventually, I found someone, but they couldn't come out for a few days unless I paid an "emergency fee", to which I contacted HMS again about this, and while trying to understand whether the warranty covered this fee, the customer service rep hung up on me. Save yourself the money and the time, as I'm out $500 for the repair, but it was still less than the warranty costs.

When the first reps from DMV Heating & Cooling came out here, they did the job but they didn’t install things correctly. It was causing my unit and my gas furnace to have more issues. I had a neighbor of mine come by in November and he mentioned that my pressure switch was bad but when DMV came out, they did not switch the pressure switch and it should’ve been switched back then in November. We had no heat for two months. We had to wait for a part that had to be ordered and it took close to a month. My four-year-old was the first one to get sick and then the rest of us started getting sick and it was because we didn’t have any heat in our two-level home. The portable heaters were not doing enough because it was just cold and this was in November and December time frame where the temperatures dropped really low.

DMV reassigned the claim because the tech was on vacation and they didn’t wanna come out here, so they wouldn’t pick up the phone. It took them two days to call me back. DMV is a big company but they are bad with communication. When I got Residential Systems, they were courteous and Mark was amazing. HMS should continue to do business with them. The technician that came out diagnosed the problem, figured out what it was, troubleshoot it, found the root cause and fixed it. Everything else was good with this recent claim and HMS really followed through. Rodemy, the supervisor, was amazing. I'm supposed to get a call back from her this morning because she missed me on Friday. So, I'm still waiting for her call. I had to pay Residential Systems $492 because of the work that DMV did improperly but I'm thrilled because I didn’t have to pay a deductible the second time.

This time around, there was constant communication and I received multiple call backs. The only thing that I dislike is that when you call in to HMS if you’re trying to do a claim over the phone, it gives you the runaround before you get to a representative. You have to speak into the virtual machine and it starts asking you all these questions. But then I realized I could do it online. Sometimes though, I like to explain so that it falls under the proper category. The drop down menus were what I was having trouble with and then I found out that my furnace is a gas furnace and not electric but it does give you the option now in the drop down menu.

I’ve had HMS here since 2015 and I have a townhouse in Virginia Beach, and I was curious as to why they canceled the policy at that townhouse. I used to have American Home Shield and then I switched over to HMS but they said that I would not be able to continue with the policy. I just got a letter with a random explanation. I ended up getting a new fridge and a new microwave because of it malfunctioning at my rental property and I have no coverage there. If HMS could investigate that, that would be nice. I was paying 51.99 for the rental property and I'm paying 46.99 for the property here, which is our primary residence. But I don’t have any coverage at the townhouse in Virginia Beach which I would love to have. If not, then everything else will have to go through my property manager and it’ll end up being a little bit more.

I figured, why not? I've had it for about six years and everything has been great when submitting a claim. The first time I filed a claim, the refrigerator was getting a lot of ice in the back. I noticed that my vegetables and things were getting frozen. I called TotalProtect and had an appointment set up. For my second claim, I also had the refrigerator checked. I’m Hispanic and we don’t believe in insurance at all. I never had insurance. One of my co-workers told me, “Why don’t you get one of those home-protect-plan things because they cover a lot of things.” And then, I was like, let me try it out, just in case. I looked it up on the internet, and I saw TotalProtect, and that was it. And then, sure enough, a couple of months later, my heater went out. They came and they fixed it, and ever since then, I was like, I’m just gonna keep it and it also covers a lot of things. To me, if something happens, I just call, they come and they fix it. It’s also good craftsmanship. The work is really good work. And then, if it acts up a week later, they’ll come and the work’s guaranteed. I know I don’t have to pay out of pocket. I like that.

The only thing I don’t like is the contractors. One time, I had a claim for my AC and it was in the summer, and the guy told me he was booked for the next three weeks. I got mad because I have a plan and I’m paying for the plan. So, they should come and service it ASAP. And then, I went through four contractors that I called back. I was like, “You’re telling me three weeks? I need this now.” But then their rep was nice and she helped me out. She found me a contractor that was gonna be in within a week. But it’s summertime, everyone’s AC is going out.

The personality of the claim reps was very professional, and the technicians did the job well. We made a claim on the warranty after noticing water hammering in our pipes when running the washing machine. The warranty company sent a plumber from five hours away, who showed up with little to no equipment. He listened to the water hammering occurring, looked at the water shock absorbers behind the machine, and looked for the access in the wall and then looked at the main pipes in the garage outside. He advised warrant company to have a washing machine technician come out and look at the washing machine intake valve, which led to a delay and additional deductible fee. The washing machine was normal, the washing machine technician measured the house his water pressure is over 100 psi. We personally then dug over 3 inches of dirt off of the house’s water supply pipe leaving the water main in the yard by the street. There, we noted that there was no pressure regulator as there should be. And therefore we suspected the problem was actually due to high water pressure coming off of the water main to the entire house. We contacted the warranty company, noted that the original plumber was not particularly interested in addressing the problem nor brought the equipment to conduct a thorough evaluation (such as a water pressure gauge) or conducted a thorough evaluation on the day he came. He did not measure the pressure nor did it appear that he looked for the missing regulator in the yard. Therefore we requested a new plumber. Initially we were told by the company that they would find someone else. No one contacted us and we contacted the warranty company a week later. At that time they told us no there was no details in the notes about looking for another plumber and we had to stick with the original contractor for the job. We are now at an impasse, the job is not been completed, we are still told by the warranty company that we have to stick with this seem inept plumber. No new plumber has been assigned and the company is not considering assigning someone else to the job. We have asked for a refund on our policy since they will not provide a competent worker and they have refused. They also told us there would be a cancellation fee for the services.

I got HMS when I bought the house and it’s been almost 5 years. I’ve only had to use them maybe 4 or 5 times but I wouldn’t go to anybody else. I get calls from the electric company or Ohio Edison or Columbia Gas and they’re always wanting me to do this but I said, “No. I have a home mortgage and they take care of everything.” I have never had any problems with anything.

I call and the claim is submitted ASAP. HMS would give us a name of the vendor that is coming to repair something and that vendor normally calls within 12 hours and tells us the date that they’re coming. If a part needs to be ordered, they elaborate when that part will be in. They’d call us again and tell us that they’re on their way. It’s been absolutely wonderful. For instance, the last vendor we got was Bay Area Heating, Cooling & Refrigeration and they called us within an hour after I actually called and submitted the claim. So, it's great because normally I can call a company to come out and they take forever to even return my call or to make an appointment. But these guys are absolutely wonderful and I would tell anybody to go through HMS.

When I submit claims with TotalProtect, I do it either on the phone or online. For me, it's easy. But there are some issues with the way the system is logging things. When my husband did it, he called and messed up. He said dish machine but it logged in as the laundry. When he called the people to fix it, originally it was for a heating element. They came but then the next week, it crapped out so they charged us for the dish machine issue, which charged it twice. When we got in touch with TotalProtect, we were told that since my husband logged the wrong problem, they didn't determine it was the same issue. It wasn't the tech's fault though 'cause they wouldn't know unless they get the symptoms.

But I was really happy with the first set of people who answers the phone. I called them three times and we were passing information. All of those three times, I got a person even though it was 4:55 in the afternoon, so I was shocked. They were also on time and they came when they said they were gonna be. Also, when I was looking for a warranty provider, I compared some prices and picked TotalProtect 'cause the other companies didn't cover dual HVACs, which I have.

The heating and air conditioning and the electrical contractors from HMS that I've used are great. But some of the appliance-specific contractors are not so great. It might have to do with the size of the companies that are part of their vendor list. They're small mom-and-pops companies servicing appliances and they're stretched a little too thin. Their knowledge levels are not so hot but it's adequate. The last claim I had was for a refrigerator. The contractors were grumpy and they didn't like to do repeat service calls. But when it was done, the fridge was running and performing properly. Still, the value of the warranty is good although there have been some issues in the past. It's a good investment and my needs are eventually taken care of every time I've used it.

Our realtor looked up HMS and for the benefits that it had, it was the best one that he found. The claims process is relatively simple. The first time we called in, I spoke to one of the customer service agents and told her what the problem was. She filed the claim and the contractor came out. They did the job in a relatively short period of time. The only thing was that we had to wait a couple of days when we were waiting for parts. We had a hot water heater that broke so they came in and they replaced it. They put in all the accessories that went with it and it went really well. We also had our freezer that went out, but it wasn’t covered. HMS has different plans and you can add a freezer in their plan, but we didn’t have that initially so the freezer wasn’t covered.

I got an HMS Home Warranty for my peace of mind. However, their claim process is poor. I don't get to talk to a person. There's always a number to call and leave a message, and that's impersonal. Since HMS is the one sending the contractors out, I'm at their mercy. But if it doesn't work, I can call them back and tell them that I need someone else. So far, some contractors that they've sent out were good, depending on the trade, and some were worthless. The better trade that I've had come out was the plumbing, which I was satisfied with. And the worst trade was the stove repair.

I also had a claim for my refrigerator but they had put it with another person, so I emailed them back to see if he could do it, and they did. Everything he fixed is working very well. When a person has multiple claims, TotalProtect should try harder to put it with one person. I shouldn’t have to call them back, and they should have automatically given him all three claims if they are able to do that kind of work.

I had a home warranty and later on, when they changed my mortgage to a different company, it was no longer bundled with that. They got with a company and they had a sweetheart deal. Then they changed up over time. I got less and less and paid more. With my stove and air conditioner, I had to deal with this company locally here that said they didn't work with the other company but they work with TotalProtect. So, I got with TotalProtect and I stayed with them. They’ve been pretty good overall. When my air conditioner went out, I had to get a second opinion. They said they were providing me a name but this contractor was no longer working with TotalProtect. But it was okay. I had a good servicing agent and I was very pleased.

I got a third person and they never called me back. The other person they could get called me back. They finally got together and they were very good people to work with. I was glad I ended up with the company I ended up with, the servicing company. But it was confusing. I was given names and these people would never call me back. There was a runaround in getting me the correct technician online to talk to them. I even had to call my own people that I've been using for 20 years to verify. But I was pleased with the outcome and I didn’t worry about the heater going bad because it was coming on summertime. It would have been sooner but I didn’t really contact them. The monthly payment goes up though but TotalProtect did a very good job on the last couple of things. I had three things -- dishwasher, my stove and the refrigerator. And they provided what they said they’d do.

HMS Home Warranty was recommended by the Realtors that was in our house. This was the one we picked 'cause there was more coverage and it was lower priced. When submitting claims, which I've only had to do it a couple of times, I just do it online usually. It will either give me a referral to call. If there's no referral in the area, then I call in and submit a claim. The online portal is pretty easy to use.

I like having the warranty and I think it's been a good provider. We had an HVAC guy come out once and he was really nice. We've used him since for other stuff. We really like him. He came out twice to look at our furnace. And then we recently had a team come out to look at our water heater. My husband said things went smoothly and the person I spoke with on the phone was really nice. It was the day after Thanksgiving so they were really quick to get out here and fix anything.

The only difficulty I have is that we live in a more rural area so there's some quite a few times they can't find an electrician to come to our area. They should maybe have a bigger network. I think one time, there was no electrician in our service. We just got to pick our own and they refunded us. That worked fine but apparently, we can only do that once a year. We needed to do it again and there was again, not someone in the service area. They said they didn't do the reimbursement thing anymore and we could only use it once. They should put that program back into place so that if we do need to ever find our own contractor, we can have part of the cost reimbursed.

They said that $150 is only for the bathroom issue and that we needed to pay for the washer. I ended up paying $258 from out of my pocket. ServiceMaster Plumbing was very bad. We had a cleaning and we were dealing with the sewage then. The moment they came in, they did not even look at what the issue was, they were asking for money. I paid $150 and told them that it was for the deductible. And then, they said they need to get a washer and then they went out for about two hours. After two and a half hours, they came and said that they have the washer and then they fixed it. And then they started saying, “This is not covered in the warranty.” It was taken care of but I had to pay out of my pocket for them. Overall, I am satisfied with TotalProtect. I used HMS once and though it started out rocky, it ended up perfect. I lost my hot water during Thanksgiving week, and I live in Virginia so it was a very cold temp. I had company coming in for Thanksgiving involving an 18-month baby, and I had no hot water. It happened at 5 o’clock on a Saturday and I couldn’t get a hold of a person until Monday. Everything was automated and one of the contractors that they assigned to me said on his recording that he wouldn’t respond on Monday morning. That wasn’t responsive enough. I call that an emergency. My realtor got a hold of a number with a person, but my paperwork only gives me automation. It allowed me to use the contractor that had already been to my house, and he said he’d come, unlike the other one that HMS assigned to me. He would come right then on the turn of the dime Saturday night.

Once the plumber came out, it was Monday morning. He stayed here all day long and put in the water heater. Because they classified it as an emergency, HMS didn’t make him wait to shop a lower level unit to see if they could get a better deal somewhere else. It was great because that meant they were gonna accept whatever the unit was that the plumber chose. It was all said and done by 6 o’clock Monday night. Overall HMS has a fantastic program and great coverage, but they should give a phone number in the paperwork that reaches a human being. Also, they should only take contractors that are willing to work weekends and evenings.

The only problem I’ve had with TotalProtect for 15 years that I've been with them was getting contractors to respond to me. I’ve only used them a handful of times, but mainly for my AC and heat. I have an old house and all my stuff is old. My AC was 25 years old. It was still going, but it got a leak. They could not figure out what was causing the leak but it ended up being my main coil at the top of the furnace. It was leaking into my furnace and that was also what caused the problem with my heat. The water leaked into the motor which rusted the motor up. So, that was part of that too. But I didn't claim it as that. I did a separate claim.

It took a while to update my AC but when it did, it went good. I'm an electrician myself and I've worked with contractors for many years so I know how those guys can be and I know it's hard to get everything done in one sitting. From that AC failure, it leaked into my kitchen downstairs because my AC's upstairs and there’s a chase and I was out of town. When I came in on Saturday morning, I walked across the kitchen floor and it was wet. So the water had been dripping in it for a while and I didn't know. It ruined my floor and my kitchen but I took care of that too. I got a new AC and I just had my heat worked on. I had to get a part, but they fixed it quickly. So far, my experience has been good.

I could not reach anyone by phone for 6 hours. Hung up or transferred me overseas, etc. Then I was told they had no repairman in the area and I could choose one. I sat in a home in 13 degree weather without heat for 2 days! I paid the cost to repair 400-600 which was never reimbursed until a year later after numerous calls and emails.

This year for the so-called free inspection of heater, they sent a man 500 pounds who could not fit into space to check heater, with no id.. He arrived in a rusted truck...Alarmed, I requested a legitimate repair person who could inspect and was turned down all the way up to upper management! Someone who could not spell or use proper English emailed me to rebuke me for asking while denying my request.

It is apparent they use the cheapest snails person who will charge the maximum deductable rate (far more than anyone else). In our experience this third party contractor determined nothing was wrong but tried to up sell us for several thousand dollars instead. This in despite of the fact that two other inspections found an issue and agreed on the issue. If you can't receive service then there is no point in having this service.

Their repair man could not find model number. I was told to call my own repair guy. I was approved for my guy to install which he did on Jan 15th. I sent copies of invoice and they keep telling me they need more info on what part broke and why? Are you kidding me? How many emails do I have to send and phone calls do I have to make? This is my first bad experience with this company but if this is how they are going to do business I may look for another.

Tech said he needed to put claim for someone else to come and I paid him my deductible. Following day house temp was 56. Called company and no report or help. Called again on the 8th, again no updates. 7 days no heat. We had to get someone to fix boiler. I called company again for reimbursement on the 15th and they still didn’t have any info on my repair. They said the tech never sent his report.

So they left my family with no heat in winter for 15 days. They wouldn’t reimburse because they said it wasn’t authorized as per contract. They didn’t even know or explain why only that it wasn’t authorized. They didn’t care about our situation and if I hadn’t called again to follow they still would not have addressed. We had a similar issue the summer before when our central AC broke. Went 6 months with no AC unit, CSU’s rod internal paperwork issues and communication. I have been a customer for over 20 years and it is easily the worst and most dangerous experience I have had to date. They left a family of 6 with no heat for, in their case, 15 days and when we took matters into our own hands they said we weren’t authorized! I called TotalProtect, told them I had a claim, and I was provided a couple of service providers that I had to choose from. It was easy and I was good to go. However, one of the providers didn’t call me back nor engage for about a week and a half. So then, I had to call TotalProtect back and switch to get a different vendor. They did what was necessary.

They're quick and efficient. You get a quick turnaround once you submit your claim. And then, once you contact their vendor, their vendors are expedient as well. So, they expedite whatever your service is and make every effort to solve your issue and get you back into working order. I had an issue with my washer and dryer, and I put the claim in on a Saturday. Within hours, I got a phone call from the vendor, and the vendor went out the very next day on a Sunday morning. They fixed the issues a half hour early.

On Monday January 13th 2020, I filed a claim with HomeSure Services, Inc because a furnace in my house stopped working. I was told that at this time they don’t have a provider in our area (Lincoln Nebraska) but I have an option to contact a local service company of my choice to expedite a service request. But before starting job a provider of my choice has to contact them for work approval. I contacted a local company. A Tech from the company came on Wednesday ( January 15th) morning did a diagnostics and said that furnace needs a replacement. He called the insurance and they approve labor but they didn’t like the price for furnace. They said they will ship it from an undisclosed location. I called them this morning ( January 16th) and found out that nothing was done they didn’t do any paper work to approve service provider, the furnace wasn’t shipped and they didn’t agree to my plea to buy furnace locally because it is too expensive for them and they try to save money. Last night with temperature close to zero pipes got frozen and water on the second floor is not running now. It doesn’t look I will get furnace repaired this week. I called them multiple times trying to persuade them to buy furnace locally and to expedite paper work but nothing work with these people.

My experience with TotalProtect is sometimes good, and sometimes, not so good. Years ago, I had some minor stuff done and it worked out. But recently, I called them because I had a leak in my kitchen. I was told that the faucet needed to be replaced and that wasn’t their responsibility. Subsequently, I paid the guy 100 bucks to come out and tell me what he couldn’t do and I still have the leak in the kitchen under the sink.

Also, I had my heating unit inspected for the winter to get it ready and the service provider that I used said that there was a hole in the heat exchanger. I called TotalProtect and they sent a heating and air conditioning guy. The report said that because it was still functioning, it wasn’t an issue. I wasn’t happy with that because there was carbon monoxide that could be leaking so I'm gonna have to have the heat exchange replaced for the sake of my family, but TotalProtect turned it down. And I paid 100 bucks for nothing.

I've been with them for over 10 years, but I felt that they were not concerned with me and were more concerned with their business. I'm shopping and may end up going with someone else because I'm not satisfied with how they’ve responded to the times I've called. It's hard to get them by phone. When you call the number, it takes you to an electronic maze and you never get them. I have been successful in getting them online though.

We own multiple properties, so when we put a claim in, they would assume that it was for our main property and the contractor would show up at our main property. That has happened a few times and it's a little frustrating, but they do resolve the issues. Also, some of the vendors aren't the best that are out there.

I have been paying this company to provide a service that they can't seem to offer me. My hot water heater broke, which is covered by my policy and they did not have anyone who could repair it in my area. Seems ridiculous to offer service to my area if they have no one to provide the service. I was instructed to find my own plumber to fix the water heater and when he came to the house and tried to jump through all their hoops, they would not approve the repair since it was not one of their authorized vendors. So here we are 4 days after filing the claim and no water in the house. The customer service representative that I spoke with, David, provided absolutely no help and would not transfer be to his supervisor. I would never recommend this company to anyone.

I've had contractors give me a window of 1:00 to 5:00, and they may not show up until 8:00. And that's happened quite often. Also, when they come out, I get charged a fee every time. I would like to see that decreased. It's a little bit more than the company that I had before.

I've been a long-time customer and TotalProtect's service has been much better than what it used to be. The early years, they absolutely sucked. I almost got rid of them and went to American Home Shield because it took forever to get things done. Contractors were hit and miss about showing up, and they’d wanna deny legitimate claims in their contract that said they were obligated to pay. I had to get contractors to jump through hoops just to deal with them. The last eight years, they’ve gotten increasingly better. In fact, I am pleasantly surprised in the work that they’ve done. Except for one occasion, things have been great. TotalProtect now has better contractors who show up usually when promised. What they say they do is what they do and they do a good job. They don’t make too big a mess and they clean up after themselves too.

Making claims is much easier than what it used to be as well. In the past, you'd had to get on the phone and hold forever. I put them on speakerphone and go about my business until they come back. Now, other than someone calling to check on what was going on, I do all my stuff over email or online on claims and I've never had an issue so far. They had to buy me two new washers, and one they had to buy completely because of eight calls where they couldn’t get anything right. I recorded it down and sent a letter to customer service. They called me up and agreed it wasn’t right. I sent them a copy of the receipt, and three weeks later, they sent me a check for the total price. So, I know they can do things right, and I know at least they wanna try and do things right, which is the only reason I'm still with them.

I honestly wish I could give negative stars or at least a 0. I would be here for hours explaining the past years' experience with this company so we are just going to hit the major points here... First called Hms 5-2018 (yes approx. 2 years ago). Explained that my electric on my 2nd floor is going in and out and at this point it has been out for about 7 days, they finally got someone to come out 7-2018 and by that point it was working again so after I paid the co-pay of 100.00 he stated that he can not do anything because it is now working for me. To call when it stops again, so takes us to 2-2019. Electric completely goes out again and I contact Hms. Tell them the deal again and the past experience and they schedule someone I contact to ensure we are all set and get to the appointment.

He never shows. I call. He says I didn’t have an appointment with him. I explained part of the conversation we had had and he then remembered and stated that he was just to busy to get to me but apologized and said he would get out there when I am available. But he would call me back because he’s in the field at that moment, moves us to about 2 and a half weeks later. I’m frustrated because he has yet to call me back so I call him and he doesn’t answer, I leave message and continue to call for next 3 days. Finally I call Hms and tell them, "Look this company is to busy to deal with me (I understand being busy within your company but you need to find some time to tend to new customers as well)."

They set me up with new company. Speak with a female at that company. She sets up an appointment and again this situation happens, I wish I were lying but this happened with a total of three companies before I get to one that comes out, checks the situation for ten minutes, tells us what he thinks it is and says he needs to do a more thorough assessment. I’m so excited he’s gonna call me back when he has time to come back out, at this point I was super patient Because I was so grateful that someone showed up finally. And did I mention I did have to pay another co-pay this time 50.00 because we changed our monthly payment plan.

So now to sum it up. That company never showed back up. Said they needed HMS to give them the ok for funds to come back out. I made sure to do that and gave them the confirmation and still they have not came back out or notified me of any future dates. I do have the company’s names which I will add to this as soon as I pull them out. So no supervisor from HMS has contacted me back even though I’ve called at least 15 times since this began asking for a supervisor or for one to contact me back. Still nothing at this point. We have contacted our lawyer and are in the process of taking action due to the contract. We are hopeful to get some sort of resolution, personally I would run from this company!!!!

So far, I've had three claims with HMS Home Warranty. The first was for my washer when I first moved in and that went fine. Then, I had somebody come out and look at my air conditioner. That time, all the contractor did was switch some wires but they did not fix the problem. When I switched the system over to heat, I had to have somebody else come out. I told the girl from HMS with whom I spoke to that I did not like the people who came the first time to work on my system. She responded saying that when the techs come, I should just tell them the problem. I had to call back again 'cause nobody called me. The second time I called, the rep got me a different contractor. When I talked to the second tech who came, he told me that he just fixed another system and that he knows the company that came first. He told me he knows what's wrong with my system and he fixed it. Now my furnace is fine.

I'm selling my house and the inspector said that he wanted somebody else to come out and do an inspection on my furnace. However, the tech who came the last time did not leave me paperwork on anything he'd done. He did not leave me a receipt. So, I hired somebody else to come out. That's $65 out of pocket. Moreover, when I talked to the rep from HMS to cancel my warranty, she said she'd email me something saying that I've canceled. I haven't gotten that email from her. Now, that rep is saying I have to pay $249 because I'm canceling my warranty on all my appliances. Despite these issues, I'd recommend HMS.

My appliances looked like they were okay when I bought the house. I bought my home on August 30th. Since I’ve been using my appliances, much like the rest of the house, I've found out they’re not okay. I need someone to come out and look at them ‘cause I’m sure at least three of them need to be replaced. The first two people that HMS sent were good and were prompt when they came in.

I had the electrical looked at because I didn’t understand how the electrical sockets ran here. Apparently, there were different switches and breakers and one of the contractors tripped a breaker. But he assured me everything was fine. So, that was worth the 100 bucks. Then I had a sump pump that wasn't working when I bought the house and it was never disclosed. We had HMS send someone out to replace the sump pump. The plumbers came in and they even looked at other stuff for me while they were here. They determined that there weren’t any big problems, so they went ahead and replaced the sump pump and left.

Now I'm waiting on one of the contractors to come. This was my third claim with HMS. They were supposed to be here between 1:00 and 3:00. They were calling me, but I couldn't answer the phone. These people might be good at what they do when they get here, but they’ve kept me waiting with a broken tailbone. I finally called them back and asked what was going on. The guy wanted to know if he could come earlier and I told him that he could.

At 1:25, no one came so I called back and they said that the guy went on his lunch break. They could’ve at least called back instead of going to his lunch. Also, if he was done with one job early and decided to take his lunch break ‘cause he couldn’t get to me, he still shouldn’t have been late especially since I’m only 40 minutes away from where his last job was. Overall, HMS has been okay but there have been inconveniences. They don’t have very many providers here where I'm at so I’m limited in what I can do. I actually had to take off work and that contributed to me losing my job recently. HMS needs to get some more contractors available to choose from.

I wish that when I am able to submit a claim, I could speak with a customer service rep compared to just calling the telephone number. I wish it was more of a one-on-one interaction rather than just ending up getting an email that says a particular contractor is gonna be placed for the issue. Other than that, I have the program, so everything is okay. The first company that was assigned for my claim couldn't get me in for a week so I had to call TotalProtect back and then somebody else came out the next day. One time, the techs were supposed to come over for a courtesy check of the air condition or heating system, and they didn’t call me. I got emailed they were coming at a certain time without checking with me. I tried to call them back, and they were never answering the phone. Eventually, they never came over. So, I didn’t wanna go back to them again. I didn’t really need to check that way anyway, but it was just one of the free courtesy checks. TotalProtect has also gone up with the fee, but normally, everything goes up over the years. All in all, it's a good thing in case something big happened.

The contractor TotalProtect sent for my dryer called and left word that we’d better try to get someone else. Something evidently happened to him and he sounded like he was really sick when he made the call. My wife called TotalProtect and they sent us another gentleman out. He came out and looked at the dryer. We asked him if he could fix it. He took some time and said that he could. He fixed dryer and we ended up paying him $125.

However, I was concerned that when my wife called TotalProtect, they mentioned something about something that they had done for us in the past. I said that I didn't understand and asked what that had to do with anything. If you’re paying for something and something goes wrong, what happened in the past shouldn’t affect anything that happens in the future. However, when our microwave and stove went out, they replaced it. Plus, they haven’t refused us anything.

We had TotalProtect in Delray Beach for several years prior to selling the property in 2015. In general, we were very pleased with the coverage and the use that we got out of the policy on that property. We had excellent coverage and service, and we recommended it to the people who bought our house. We have since moved to a new home in Florida and got TotalProtect for the house. We also have it on a second residence in Maryland, for which we had to call for a plumber back in November. The guy examined every working device in the toilet, and anything that needed to be replaced, he replaced. He was extremely neat and thorough, and he explained what he was doing. He did a wonderful job and he's probably one of the best plumbers we've ever had in the home.

We have a third property that our daughter lives in, which also has a TotalProtect policy under my name, and there are some coverage questions going on that has been a continuing issue. There's a leak at the top of the water heater, and the plumber sent out said that other work needed to be done in the little room that the water heater is in. TotalProtect said that because there were some problems with water pressure gauges and a water valve, they wouldn’t cover the repair of the water heater, which was one of the covered items in the policy.

My daughter wrote them a letter but they would not cover the repair of the water heater until the other two items were repaired, and then they have to reconsider it. This has been going on for a while, unfortunately. Our daughter doesn’t always address things as quickly as I would like her to, and she has not had the valve and the pressure gauge repaired yet. She's a single-mom, and she just ends up having so many other issues that she thinks have to be handled first. My daughter and I are not too happy that TotalProtect doesn’t wanna cover the water heater, which is like eight or nine years old. Water heaters don’t last very long, to begin with. So, we don’t agree with TotalProtect that the water heater needs repair because the other items need repair. I think they're all old and they all need repair. Other than that, the incidences where we used to live was absolutely excellent.

I contacted other companies and they won’t work on it because the pool heater is outside but the filter and the pump is inside. HMS sent me $250 to get somebody to fix it, but it ain’t gonna be $250. Another time, my washing machine broke and they took care of that. Only problem was with that, all they did was deliver the washing machine. It was $75, now it's up to $100 for that process. And then, they go back wherever they came from and talk with the higher-ups like does it pay to order a part or to replace it. So far, we've gotten our washing machine replaced because it was so old they couldn't get parts, and the hot water heater too. The most recent claim was the stove and we just had it replaced because it was also very old. The contractor that came out was very nice. TotalProtect needs to monitor the contractors that they use a little better. Some technicians are good and some are bad. I had one work on plumbing that I would never have in my house again. But then I’ve had others work on plumbing who were fairly competent people. You never know who you’re gonna get. It’s not like they’re consistent with their contractors. They can’t keep the same people working for them. I guess they lowball whoever does anything. I also don’t really understand somebody driving here to work on an appliance in my house from 60 or 70 miles away. I do live in rural Alabama but there are technicians in the area. They should hire the local people in the area.

Another thing is that I prefer to file claims by telephone but TotalProtect doesn’t seem to be supporting that as well. They want you to do it all online, which makes sense. But on the telephone, sometimes, the people are easy to deal with and sometimes, they’re not. Usually, with these people, English is not their first language. But in general, I’m not displeased. I've had the service for five years now and I haven’t stopped because the warranty has helped me in a couple of major instances. When I had an air conditioner problem, the contractor came and worked on the air conditioner, and all it cost me was my initial fee. Yet I imagine it costs much more than that.

We have been loyal HMS/now Cinch customers for over 10 years, but nearly every time we really need them they are slow, get us bad providers, and substandard parts. This time may be criminal. Our 50 gallon gas water heater is giving out, and they have agreed to replace it. We got a generic email saying they will replace it, along with a meaningless breakdown of an additional $500 in additional costs. I called for additional information and the representative said the additional costs can only be broken down by the service provider, which is fine. I asked for what unit they were replacing ours with, and after a very long wait and much persistence I got a model number. I looked it up and it's a 40 gallon tank, not a 50 gallon. I asked to speak with a supervisor. They give you a 24 hour window in which one will call. We have screen shots from our phones that neither of us were called.

I called back after 72 hours for an update. The representative let slip during the call that the decision to give us a 40 gallon tank was intentional, they took my inquiry as an appeal, and they have denied my appeal. So, their authorization department has made a final determination that 40 gallon tank is the equivalent of a 50 gallon tank. Tell that to my family as we run out of hot water in our house for the next 10 years. Our annual fee is being used to pay people to deny us the services we pay for. This company is has earned its reputation with us time and again by profiting off of denying claims or providing substandard replacements when they are unable to deny the claim. Their customer service process is terrible. It takes 15 minutes to get to a person, and another 15 just to initiate a meaningful conversation.

They said they informed us that they were offering us a 40 gallon tank. Sure, because I was suspicious of their business practices based on previous experience, spent an hour taking the initiative to get a model number, and finding on my own that it was substandard. Then they said they had informed us they denied our appeal. Sure, because I called back when their supervisor didn't call to find out what was going on, and after another hour of time spent on the phone the representative accidentally revealed to me they denied our so-called appeal.

This company is proving itself to be dishonest by design. I loath them, and am considering legal action. This type of shoddiness and dishonesty are emblematic of the decline of our culture and national greatness. We've paid for a company to have our backs when we need them. We are not asking for anything other than what we pay for-- an equivalent replacement for when covered items break under covered circumstances. What we are getting is a clandestine bait and switch. It may not seem like much, but if this results in my family running out of hot water for the next 10 years we will be requesting every realtor we know to condemn this company as the fraud it is.

Jenny, I appreciate your feedback and I’m sorry to hear that your claim experience was not what you expected. As with all warranties, coverage is detailed in the Agreement and there are items and conditions which may not be covered by your warranty. In this instance your warranty addressed the replacement and labor for the failing furnace, and the out of pocket expense was related to modifications and upgrades which were required in order to install the new equipment. Since those items were not failing, they do not qualify for coverage. This information can be found in the terms and conditions of your warranty booklet that was mailed to you upon enrollment. We regret any confusion or misunderstanding which occurred. Respectfully, Austin

I usually call in my claims but for the last couple of times that I did it, I didn’t speak to anybody. It was like all-recording, which was kinda surprising. It made me a little uncomfortable. And one time, it went fine, and one time, it didn’t.

We lost our hot water and it went on for weeks and weeks. When I called it in, the guy came up and said it was our hot water heater. We have a waterless tank. He called HMS back and they told him what to try to do. But I had to keep pushing a button just to get the hot water going. The tech wrote on the paper that if it continues, it’ll have to be replaced. So I called HMS and they sent somebody else out. It ended up where they were trying to find somebody to come out and fix it. But it couldn’t be fixed. They kept saying that the paperwork sent in was wrong. HMS blamed the people that came out, but they were blaming HMS. Nobody was willing to help, and it was insane.

HMS kept trying to find somebody that would do it. They were out-of-area. I told them the one company that came here and knew what they were doing and said what was wrong, they have taken off the table because they sent somebody else. So I told HMS to get them back. They finally did, and it was done. It was absolutely the worst experience I’ve ever had. But all the other times have been fine. When I had a claim for the garage, the tech had to replace it. It took HMS a couple days to say okay. The process takes a little bit long when they have to replace something. And then, they said that the parts wouldn’t come in until next week. But luckily, they came in early.

We haven’t had any really bad experiences with TotalProtect other than one recently. We found out that if intermediate to advanced appliance replacements or repairs are involved that they usually do a really good job, with the plumbers and electricians and so forth. But we haven’t had a great deal of luck with the handyman components. I don’t know why that is. I guess it’s because there’s not enough profit to justify the time that they have to spend with the thing.

But as far as the processing of the claim they have done a really good job because the personnel involved never complain and never have to contact me with a follow-up to the payment. Even though they often follow me up to make sure that everything is okay, sometimes, even two or three times a day or so. So, it looks like they’ve got some really good ones, and maybe some on the lower scale that aren’t as top-notch as possibly they could be. But we’re not complaining. They’re doing their job. The only other thing would be related to the smaller handyman jobs. Anything that could be done to improve that aspect would be very helpful. At this time, I’m very hesitant to even utilize the handyman service again. But I would recommend TotalProtect especially for the major jobs.

We're really happy with TotalProtect. But if they keep going up on price we might change. Recently, we submitted a claim for the plumbing on the water heater and the first pair of guys that came by just checked it out and verified that it was bad. They were kind of curt or not the friendliest. But the person that installed it was excellent, very nice, and very polite. TotalProtect also replaced our air conditioning and heating that went out. But they didn't really recognize the fact that there's anybody close by in this town that could handle the job and we had to find our own on that one. There are people here in Mexico and that was who we ended up using. The company's name was Mommens and I had to call TotalProtect to get them recognized. Then, they called them and our claim got taken care of locally. For the plumbing issue, the guys also came from two hours away.

Aside from the fact that TotalProtect always picks somebody way far away, if we have any trouble with that service, we have to have them come out again and they were far away. TotalProtect also tends to have young people handling that part of the claims process who don't really understand or recognize the fact that we have people here that can do the job and that TotalProtect already uses them for things. So, I'd appreciate it if TotalProtect recognizes that we have people here in Mexico, Missouri who can handle the service and who they recognize and work with. But even though we have those problems with distance, TotalProtect has done a really good job.

We bought our house in 2015. When we purchased, the HVAC system was old and the house itself was built in 1992 so we were told by our realtor to maintain a good home warranty for those “just in case” times. The original home owners payed for three years and in 2018 and 2019, we renewed our contract. We know how important it is to maintain our home and we were already established with HMS so we just stayed even though the claims process is ALWAYS a hassle.

Our HVAC system has been “fixed” twice a year since we bought the house. Every spring the a/c fails and every fall the heat fails. We take care of my elderly MIL and we have a child with special needs. Each winter, we have to wait weeks to get someone to fix the issue. At one point, I had to take my MIL and my SN child to a hotel so they didn’t catch pneumonia. I am not even sure we have called about anything other than these problems! Each time they send out a different company who proceeds to tell us that we need a new system but that HMS won’t pay for that unless the entire system fails as a whole. There have actually been 2 companies that refuse to come back out here because they know the system needs to be replaced and our warranty won’t do it.

Fast forward through all that, this year we received a letter stating that while they have enjoyed having us as customers, they are opting not to renew our warranty with them. The letter was sent 30 days before our warranty expires. I think they are refusing to renew our policy because they know the HVAC system needs replacing and it’s going to cost them money that they don’t want to spend, but isn’t that what they are there for? I read some of the other reviews, and we as well have had to pay out more than our $100 deductible several times. And if more than 1 company comes to look at the same job, you still have to pay the $100 to each company. This company does not care about its customers. Save your money, do some research, find another home warranty company! Even if it cost a little more upfront, anything is better than the rude, untimely, refusals to fix an issue, company like this.

We've been with HMS for almost five years and just kept renewing. Our house is an older one and we know there are things that are ultimately going to fail and would need to be fixed. I would like to see them have a wider range of providers that can be called. When we had an issue with our heat, it took almost two days to get somebody out to fix it because they didn't have providers available, which was a little frustrating. It was pretty cold and we had no heat. However, if I called somebody on my own, I would have had to pay for it and that would defeat the purpose of having the home warranty. We went out and bought space heaters to hold us over because we had no other options. When the tech came, he found where the fuse was blown, fixed it and was out of here within 15 minutes.

I don’t have to use TotalProtect that often but when I do, the issue has always been covered. Although they went up on the deductible from 75 to 100, they are always right on it whenever I have a problem, except when I use Sherwood Heating and Air in Sherwood, Arkansas. I was not pleased with Sherwood Heating at all. I never could get ahold of them. I've called and left messages, but they never called me back. They told me that they couldn't get to me until the following week. But I really needed the service then. Moreover, when they came out, they fixed one thing, then had to come out again. The last time I called TotalProtect, I told the rep that I didn’t wanna use Sherwood Heating. She picked out All South at Hot Springs. She gave me the number to call and I called on Sunday, expecting to get an answering machine. But the contractor answered the phone and came up the next day and fixed the problem immediately.

I know who's dependable and people who are willing to work with TotalProtect is who they use, but they don't know their reputation here. Since October, I've had two experiences with HMS and the results have been satisfactory. They were really good about replacing my furnace motor, which was a quick resolution. But I had a little problem with my microwave. When I reported it, they sent someone out and when he went back to the shop, it was determined that they would fix it and order a part. The part came in and the technician came out the day after Christmas.

Since the microwave was fried, it was not gonna work so I had to get back and report that. Apparently, there was a misunderstanding and it was reported back to HMS that the microwave was beyond repair and needed a replacement. There was a little bit of a delay. I've been without a microwave since Thanksgiving but it is getting results. I just accepted the offer for a check to pay for the microwave. I've had HMS since July of 2018 and they're responsive for the most part. But as a customer, I have a level of credibility. When I say I need repairs or replacements, they should be more responsive. Other than that, their technicians were very good.

I needed peace of mind and took a risk and got TotalProtect warranty. I've been with them for 12 years now and submitting claims has been pretty easy. It’s better to talk to people and they let us know quickly on when to expect the contractors. Some of the contractors are fine, but there are a few that don’t seem to get it fixed right sometimes. If I run into an issue, I'd call TotalProtect and tell them I’d rather have somebody else and they either get another vendor out or they couldn’t find anybody, so they'd send me money or they would give me credit. If you know people, you can find people to do it, but that’s not what I paid for a service.

I had an issue with the dishwasher backing up and the dishwasher guy came and said that there was nothing wrong with it. The plumber came out and said nothing wrong with the plumbing. Each time, I paid 120 bucks and I was not happy about that. I had to replace the dishwasher which cost me $750 and that was a disappointment.

Right now, I had a toilet that cracked. Nobody took a hammer to it and it was leaking. It fell under misuse and abuse. The guy explained that it was standard wear and tear so TotalProtect wouldn't cover it. It didn’t make any sense to me. My mom got toilets in her house, it’s been there for 30 years so how would he know that this was the manufacturing flaw that took several years to come out? But he wouldn’t budge on it. I had to pay $350 to have a toilet replaced. TotalProtect is good but not great. When I first got the policy, it was a $50 deductible. Now every time they send somebody, it’s $120 unless it’s for the same thing. I don’t agree with how they raise the deductibles and that’s been the last couple of years. That’s significant. But overall, I would give it a plus. It’s worth the money.

I sent this email and of course have not heard back. We have been without heat since 31 December 2019. We smelled gas the morning of 31 December 2019 and promptly called WE Energy who came out and informed us that our furnace was emitting 2000 particles of CO at the exhaust. In addition, 24 particles were being emitted at the knuckle line (gas pipe to furnace) inside the laundry room and 14 particles of CO were in the house. I called your company and spoke to Mary on 31 December and was told there were no providers in the area and that someone from dispatch would be calling me back within 24 hours and she attached emergency to it since it was supposed to get down to the single digits. Needless to say, I never received a call and we had to stay at a hotel.

On 1 January 2020, I called back and spoke to Charlene at dispatch. She was outstanding to talk to, and informed me that nobody would come out and service me because of the holiday, but that Black Haak Heating was assigned and to call them first thing in the morning to find out what time they would be arriving. I called Black Haak heating this morning and was informed they do not service the Clintonville, WI area. So, I called your company back and spoke with Denise at customer service who told me that it has to go back to the dispatch and I couldn’t talk to them but dispatch will find a service company in my area and if I don’t hear back by 1:00 PM, to call the customer service again.

So, here we are three days later, and I still have no heat in the house. Gas company has shut my natural gas off. We had to purchase space heaters so our pipes don’t freeze. Can someone please call me and explain to me why I cannot get service which I pay for? My hotel and electrical bills are mounting. Do I need to stop heating my house so the pipes freeze and burst, which at that point will turn into approximately a $120,000 dollars to repair at YOUR cost. Please advise ASAP why a service I pay for hasn’t fixed this issue. And while I understand it is over a holiday period, the heating companies in Clintonville and surrounding areas do have 24 hour emergency services. Also, why I was given a company that DOES NOT service my area.

We got a refrigerator that has some type of a fan shutter. The contractor has been out here four times and replaced the entire component and it's still doing it. They're supposed to be coming back out here today to evaluate it again. But after four times and $125 a pop for them to come, I'm about to the end with this refrigerator.

The contractor has been extremely supportive. The first guy came out and said they've ran across this before. He altered the drain line and he said, "Let's see if that works and if it doesn't work, we'll have to change out the fan." It didn't work. The rattle came back. They came back out and tried another thing. But once again, it didn't work either. Then they sent out somebody new, and he looked at me and said, "Well, if it's not doing it now, there's nothing I can do about it." He told me to record it next time. So we recorded the noise. They came back out, replaced the entire component and the entire fan assembly. But four days later, it was doing the exact same thing.

I called TotalProtect and told them what was going on. They told me they would get back to me quick. But nothing. After about last week, I went back into the system again. The system to place the claims is not all that cumbersome. But to get somebody on the phone is ridiculous. I spent an hour and a half last night trying to get somebody on the phone. The lady I talked to last night was very pleasant and she told me the exact same thing that the local repair shop did. The first step is we've got to notify them that we're waiting a deductible and then they can come out and evaluate it. But that hadn't happened yet.

It seems like they say they're gonna do something, it should be a couple key strokes and it doesn't happen. You gotta call back a couple of times. But the contractor has been very helpful and very willing to work with us. They're waiting for TotalProtect to get off their ** and tell them that they've waived the deductible for them to come out and evaluate the refrigerator, which apparently is the first step since we have to replace the refrigerator. But we haven't heard from TotalProtect.

I also called in the summer about whether or not that the pool heater was covered. They said, "No. That would be an additional $23." I told them it was fine, and it was automatically withdrawn. It was through Redstone Federal Credit Union. They just automatically stipend the premium out of my checking account. I was looking at my checking account and I noticed that the premium fee has not gone up that $23.

I called them back in September and they said, "I see your notes here. They just never added it on. There'll be another 90-day waiting period." But when I looked at my December statements, I noticed the same damn thing. My additional premium was still nulled. So I called them a third time and they said they would go ahead and add it on. They told me that they saw that I paid by credit card for the additional two months, and that they would waive the 90 days and they would do it right now. So I'm waiting to see whether or not they would get the premium right.

I had a different company before but they were pretty shoddy and I wasn’t happy. My air conditioning guy told me about TotalProtect and I have been with them for under a year now. I recently submitted a claim for a stove when one of the burners was not heating up correctly and the process was very easy. TotalProtect sent out a tech within a few days and it was fast. Also, the tech was hysterical and I loved him. I’m definitely gonna call him back.

We’ve had some trouble with getting a microwave and our garage doors fixed. We moved in this garden home four years ago. But in the other place, we were there for 10 years and we’ve had no problems with TotalProtect. This garden home was built 12 years ago and a piece was broken with one of the garage doors. I called and TotalProtect sent a company out who just replaced the whole drive unit. Then in November, the other one did the same thing. I called them back but they said I couldn't do both within the same year cycle. The year cycle was ending at the end of November so I waited until then and called it back in. They sent the same company out here and replaced that one. So it's a good service. It was also a good company that they sent out here. They knew what they were doing and were very efficient.

For the microwave claim, TotalProtect sent a company out here and that company worked on it. It worked well for a while but then all of a sudden, it didn’t work. TotalProtect sent another company out and that guy came in. He had the part on his truck and he put it in. He tried to get it to work and it worked but he said there was still something wrong. He called and told TotalProtect what the part was but it was so old, they couldn’t find it. So TotalProtect just sent me an email saying what they were gonna do. I could either choose one of the microwaves in a series or they would send me a check and I could go buy what I wanted. We chose the one in the series and then they sent it out here. The guy came and put it in, and everything has been good.

Most of the technicians that HMS sent have been okay. I didn't really care for the way one of them acted, but when I called HMS, they sent somebody else out. We've complained three times about the dryer. The first guy they sent out here did everything that could be humanly imagined, but the dryer just wasn't drying my clothes. HMS sent out another guy yesterday to back check the first guy. He threw a dry towel in the dryer, shot a laser beam in, said that I made his job easier and walked out the door. As far as he was concerned, there wasn't a problem. To me, that was not good so I called HMS and complained. They apologized and sent out the third guy out today.

The guy who came out today told me about the problem. I went up on our roof where the vent for the dryer goes up. It had a piece of plastic blocking the lint from going out. All the repair people that were here should have noticed that. But the third guy did, diagnosed it and took care of it. We have not dried with the dryer yet, but he told me to keep an eye on it and to let the company know if it didn't dry and he'd come back out to check it out again.

Our boiler failed during a week of below freezing temperatures in NY and Total Protect wanted us to wait a week to allow one of their authorized companies to scout the problem. After obtaining permission to have our own company come as they could come within 24 hours, Total Protect denied paying even the minimum because we didn’t wait the week. We had our own company file all the necessary paperwork but our house was in danger of pipes freezing and we had no hot water or heat for 4 days. If we had waited we would have had even more damage. Total protect gives the worst customer service and will do anything to deny a claim. Other companies are much better and I will be canceling my Membership

Submitting a claim to TotalProtect has been very easy. I like the way I'm able to go directly onto the website, put a request in and get a number. What I would like to see if having, on that website, an option of requesting a particular vendor, one that’s earned people’s respect in the way they do the business. They ought to be able to reward them by requesting their services again. TotalProtect doesn’t have that option on the website. It’s just, “I’ve got a problem with an HVAC system,” and then, I get an email back saying we need to contact this company. I would like to be able to select a vendor that has performed well. I used TotalProtect for my HVAC system and if I would have an HVAC issue again, I would like to have the vendor that I had the last time.

I like the fact that this provider calls you up, schedules the time right away and always comes during the time they scheduled. And they call you before they leave and when they're on their way. They give you an estimate as to exactly when they expect to be at your place. Then when they do the work, it’s really good. If there are any issues, they come back and fix it.

When we purchased our home in FL we paid for a HMS Home Warranty thinking that it was a good investment and would take care of any appliances that may not work. This warranty was the WORST investment ever made. We had a problem with our dryer beginning in May 2019 and when the repairman came out ($100 deductible) he said he would not work on the dryer until the vent was cleaned. We paid to have the vent cleaned (another $100) and it still did not work so HMS was called again. The rep came out a month later (June '19) and they replaced two major parts (including the motor). The dryer still did not work properly and kept turning off without completely drying the clothes.

HMS was called again in Nov '19 and the rep came out. He stated he didn't know what the problem was (HMS should have replaced it at this time but did not). The rep thought it could be the control board so he ordered one and stated that if it didn't work after that, it was not repairable (Note: this is the key phrase to getting an appliance replaced). On 4 Dec '19 a new Sears rep replaced the control board and the dryer still did not work. The rep said the vent needed to be cleaned (but we had just cleaned it). So then he said the vents often have wire mesh on the roof and that could be the problem; NOPE, no mesh. Then the rep said he needed to order another motor ("NOPE, you just replaced the motor"), then he said it could be the relay. These repairmen have NO IDEA what they're doing.

The rep was supposed to come back with parts a month later and after hours of phone calls to talk with Customer Service and request reimbursement options since we were without a dryer for over a month, we just cancelled the next appointment. We will NEVER use HMS Warranty again and highly discourage anyone from using them. They are a complete waste of money. Even though they had no idea what the problem was they wanted to spend 8 months of wasting our time and dump more money into trying to fix the problem instead of just replacing the dryer or giving us a credit. You are much better off just taking what you would pay for a home warranty and putting it into a savings account or money market account just in case.

But the last few times that I tried to do it, it wouldn’t let me process. When I submitted it for the final appointment, it kept telling me that another customer has filled in the time. But I didn’t pick the date or the time, and I couldn’t go back and change it, so that was why I had to go call the 800 number. And every time I tried to cancel and resubmit, it would still give me the same date and time. The first people they sent out were good once they arrived. But they were always late for the appointment. But the second technicians they sent out from Sears were awesome.

I pay my monthly premium and I paid my service fee, but it has been almost a month and my washing machine is still in need of repair. A1 Appliance is the 1st company that came out to service my washing machine, he said I needed a part, I had to wait for Total Protect to order the part, and A1 Appliance returned to fix my washing machine, so I thought, the washing machine was making a loud noise and water leaked and damage my floor. As per Total Protect, they are not responsible for my damage floors. I contacted A1 Appliance again for another service call, the tech told me he had over 30 years of experience and he stated the machine needs to be replaced. I contacted Total Protect, and they stated they need a second opinion, they scheduled another service appointment with Sears, the tech from Sears said, he had over 16 years of experience and this machine was done. I called Total Protect with the diagnosis and they said they will order 3 parts and scheduled yet another service appointment for January 9, 2020. Please note this is will be 6 weeks without a washing machine by my next service appointment. I want to make it clear that my contract states if the appliance is not fixable, it will be replaced. Two techs with over 40 years of experience between them stated that the machine needs to be replace, but Total Protect is refusing to replace.

Also, the customer services agents are horrible, be prepared to stay on the line for 45 mins to an hour, be prepared to get transferred multiple times and repeat your story, and to be put back in the que several times, after being put on hold.

I finally spoke someone name Natasha, who was not unapologetic or empathetic, I would consider down right rude.

It is my understanding that this company has multiple names and has changed names several times and you would have to wonder why.

Up until my last claim for my washing machine with Total Protect, I've had no problem with them. Most of their contractors have been really good. We've had one or two that were a little rough around the edges but they have done good work. With my recent claim, the company they sent seemed to be overwhelmed with so many jobs that they're having trouble keeping up. I don't see a lot of urgency on their side to resolve the situation.

The warranty company and the company doing the work were not communicating together. The contractor has been out several times and ordered two different parts. The company that’s sending the information says they sent that information to TotalProtect. However, TotalProtect's people don't have that information. Initially, the part that was sent didn't fit and so the contractor had to send it back and reorder. I was trying to expedite that part because of the holidays. It was at that point that I learned that the contractor wasn't going through TotalProtect to get the part. That's where the miscommunication came between the two companies. Apparently, the part that they need for my machine cannot be purchased anymore.

When I talked to TotalProtect yesterday, the reps said they couldn't do anything until their research department got the information from the field person for them to be able to investigate whether they can get the part or not. This is before they can make a decision as to what to do with my machine. The rep said it could be another two weeks. So, I’m really caught in the middle. The contractor has spoken with me many times and their attitude is a little bit of the issue because they are overwhelmed with people complaining and giving them grief.
