We had one guy come out to the house and he was very nice. In fact, he was going to come back and take a look at it. I guess he was in the area and he stopped by. But I told him no and that it is working fine now. I didn’t want him to do something he didn’t have to. For that claim, I had called the company and the company gave me the name of the repairman then I called him and he told me when he was gonna come out. But the fee used to be $100 though. Now, it’s $125 and that’s going up. I know the cost of everything goes up though.

When Sears came out and looked at my air conditioning, they said they can’t really repair it and that It needs to be replaced. So the tech called the warranty company and they approved it. Then Sears came back out and said they needed to take pictures and measurements. A week went by and then they said they don't do replacements, just repairs. They were gonna subcontract it to another company and then that company called. They said they were gonna take pictures and measurements. I told them Sears had already taken pictures and measurements. It was just gonna take longer for them to come out and do the same thing. But they said they had to send a guy out and it took three days for their guy to finally come out. Then he said they had to order a part and it took two weeks to get a part here. By now, three weeks had gone by, at least, and it just got partially fixed today.

They came out this morning and replaced whatever it was they needed to replace. But an hour after the technician left, the thing stopped working. He did check before leaving though. He put a piece of paper where the vent was blowing out. So it was working. But the second guy had said that this is one of these smart thermostats and if it's not matched up exactly right, it could get screwed. The thermostat lights up but it's not lit up, which means it's somehow not connected right. I called them back and said the unit wasn't working and that I think the issue is the thermostat.

The tech said he would call me back and see if he could get someone but I had taken off work today. I am not taking off of work tomorrow. So I told them to get it fixed today because it has been three weeks. Getting the part wasn't their problem but getting it fixed today was their responsibility. He said, “You know what, you’re right. We’re gonna try to get somebody out there.” I told him I don't want them to try and that I want it fixed today. But he never called me back. Then finally, my wife got so pissed off that she called the warranty company back. They contracted with another company to come out and their tech said he would be out here today before 5:00. But at the time that I was talking to him, the people that Sears contracted called me back. They said they're gonna come back and fix it.

The other guy was saying he could do it at 3:30 but I told him that the first company had said they would call me back. So the technician called the warranty company. The representative that Sears had contracted is in Allen and he said he would come and take care of my air conditioning when he finishes his job. He just asked for 30 more minutes.

But I actually didn't have to go three weeks without my air conditioning working. I understand that things happen and some things are out of the contractor's control but when I asked them what they could do to help, they basically said they couldn't do anything and that they had to wait for the part to come in. But the part came in on Friday and they could've come out here on Saturday. But they didn't, which pisses me off. People gotta run and be on top of this thing too. They should know to say that I had been waiting three weeks and that they need to get out here Saturday and fix it instead of having me wait. They came out here Tuesday. I'm hot in my own house and I can’t even be in the house today because the air conditioning still isn't freakin' fixed. I still gotta wait for them to come back out.

I am disappointed in Cinch. I’ve never complained about all the services they got because they had been great for me. They were perfection. In fact, the guy that came out here last year was Ellis Air Conditioning & Heating and they were so good, prompt and knowledgeable. So when I called this time, I actually wanted them to come back but I guess they're not on the rotation anymore. So I was kinda disappointed. These people here are the absolute worst.

I also recommended my daughter to use this company and they switched from the company they had to Cinch but when her furnace went out, Cinch didn't even cover her. She was told that the issue was corrosion and Cinch doesn't cover corrosion. But I’ve never had Cinch not covering anything for me so I recommended them and I’m a Realtor. If I recommended the company to somebody and they don’t cover, that makes me look bad.

Lawrance - We recognize the difficulty of going without a working air conditioning unit for an extended period of time and appreciate your valuable feedback. We also regret your daughter's claim did not go as she expected and as with any other home warranty, coverage is detailed in the agreement and there are some items and conditions which may not qualify for coverage. It is very important to us that our customers are educated on the coverage they retain, and are sent a copy of their Agreement within the first thirty days before the warranty goes into effect. They are now with Cinch so the software is relatable, but it’s just easy. I go online, make the claim, and then I have a response e-mail with the company name and number I could contact. When I contacted them, the third party company was also very helpful and responsive in their communication. The quality of work was great. They were very knowledgeable and professional. I love the experience. I can’t wait to keep renewing annually so I can have peace of mind, and I know I'm in great hands.

We had a great turnaround. Within 24 hours, I heard back from HMS. I was really happy so we ended up renewing it just because of the service we received. The contractor that came out was really good and professional. I liked them a lot too.

I’m a single, older woman and if something breaks, I don’t have anybody to call. But when I have Cinch, I can call them. My dishwasher quit working properly, and the man came and replaced a part. It was a cheap old plastic thing. Maybe it was a $6 or 69 cents, but it wasn’t much. They had checked with me, “Is it okay if a tech comes in? He’ll wear mask and gloves,” and the shutdown rules weren’t on yet. I said yes. He came in and then he said he’s ordering the part. And then came the shutdown. I was like, “Are you gonna be able to come back and put that in?” He goes, “Yes. Because we started it before the shutdown, we can come back and finish it.” So, again, he came with gloves and all of that and put the part in. I was thrilled.

I have loved the contractors who have been sent out here for anything. I’ve had them for air conditioning and electricity. Everyone of them has been extra nice, and very professional. They call you in advance and say, “We’re coming. Are you gonna be home?” The subcons that they use have been excellent. They've told me “I’m glad you have Cinch. This is a good company. They don’t nickel-and-dime us to death. They let us fix what needs to be fixed.” They like Cinch. The warranty is a little bit expensive and I’m on fixed income. I’m retired too, but Cinch has always been reliable. They’ve always been nice. They’ve always been professional and they always come right away.

One time, I had an electrical thing where something was smoking and I shut off all of my electrical power at the breakers because I was concerned. That was several years back and I was working. They called me and said, “We’re gonna come over there right now because you don’t have any electrical power.” I said, “I’m gonna leave work then and meet you.” It turned out it was nothing. There’s a little motor in a rheostat that dims lights and it burned out. All they had to do was replace that rheostat with a better one or something that wouldn’t burn out like this one had. The fact that they came so quickly on what I considered to be inconvenient for me. I’m super happy with Cinch.

Submitting my claims with HMS was easy. But a couple of years ago, my microwave broke and I paid my deductible. They couldn’t repair it, so they had to get me a new one, but I felt that they didn’t want to. I finally got it, but it was just horrible calling every week. They kept saying that they’d put acceleration on it, but it wasn’t accelerated. There are some exceptions, but most customer service representatives just wanna get you off the phone. It was like they get paid for the amount of issues they resolve, but they don’t resolve them, they just get you off the phone. I would’ve talked to a supervisor, but they said that the supervisor was not available or that the supervisor would call me back. But they never did and I was furious. It took a good month, at least, but it seemed like a year before I got a replacement.

The last two people who were here for my washing machine and my dishwasher were absolutely wonderful. My washing machine was first. The contractor had to order the part and come back. When the part came in early, he canceled the later appointment and was here the next day. He was very nice and knowledgeable. I like that with HMS, I don’t have to pay for it all when big repairs happen because I can’t. Like with my washing machine, the contractor said that it was 450 but I only paid a hundred and a quarter. They make their own money because I’ve been paying them for two years without a problem. But I wouldn’t have that money all in my pocket to pay for it.

Cinch has been perfect. When I put a claim in, they automatically sends something back to me and then they help me set up the appointment to have someone come out here and take a look at something. The last thing was the oven microwave, which went bad, and the gentleman that came out was fabulous. He was so nice and respectful. It was right in the middle of this stuff happening so he wore a mask and he had things on his shoes. It was really nice. He also wiped down everything he touched. Then the guys that came in and installed the new thing were fabulous too. We’ve never had a bad experience with any of our repairmen that have come in through Cinch. I also like it that as soon as you notify them, you’re constantly getting emails asking if everything is okay and providing something so that they can get back to you if not.

My dishwasher was (and still is) leaking and HMS sent over a service to fix it. Turns out the seal on the inside is causing the leak. The tech said he’d fix it but didn’t have a seal in his truck but would order one and come back. That night I received an email that the seal is not covered under the warranty. So I have a dishwasher that is leaking and a warranty that is useless. Thanks HMS. To make matters worse I called customer service and had the worst experience. The service agents were not very nice - impolite - and didn’t care. Tried cancelling the warranty so I could use the unearned premium Refund to fix the dishwasher and that was a problem.

We previously filed a claim before on our microwave which initially was thought to be an electrical issue and was later found to be an problem with the microwave itself. They used the cost they spent on that service as a way to keeping me from getting a refund. I was told the cost for that service- because the servicer had to come back multiple times and they paid for it - exceeded the amount of the refund. Essentially, it’s my fault that the servicer could not determine that it was not an electrical issue and had to make multiple trips. Unreal.

In a time of COVID-19 when people are experiencing financial hardship, it’s good to know that HMS could care less about their customers and more concerned about lining their own pocketbooks. Multiple companies are making exceptions to help customers cope while companies like HMS carry on with business as usual and could care less. Clearly you’ve just lost me as a customer as I am not going to renew my contract; but I would not even recommend HMS to my worst enemy. I will make sure that every knows of my experience. What a horrible company.

    Richard,

Please know that we are sympathetic to the hardships that people are facing right now in regards to the Covid-19 crisis. The wellbeing of our customers is of the utmost priority to us, and we review each case individually. As with any home protection agreement, there are specific terms and conditions that dictate coverage. It is important to us that we are straightforward in educating our customers on the coverage they retain, which is why we ensure every customer is sent a copy of the terms of their contract upon enrollment, and are afforded a review period during which time if they determine the warranty does not meet their needs, they can cancel without penalty.

Being that you benefited from the agreement to have your microwave repaired, we cannot guarantee that you would be able to receive a refund, however we would like to take a look at your case to ensure the best decision has been made. We have located your account and a member of our team will look into your situation and reach out to you directly.

    Sincerely, Dena

HMS is good but it usually takes months in some cases. When we had the stove that went out at Christmas time. We reported it and it took ‘til March to get it fixed. Also a lot of times, they’d send folks out that cannot deal with the issue. If they could only screen their service folks a little better. We had a water leak and the plumbing company came out, and it took four times for them to come out. I didn’t know if it was just the customer service this day or what. But we’ve had it since we bought the house and they eventually fix whatever the issue is.

Also, communication could be improved. And they could let us see what the technicians write up that they turn into Cinch about what problem was fixed because I've had someone come out here and really didn't do anything the first time. I was a Cinch customer, then I went to someone else, and then I came back to them. Submitting claims has kinda been okay. The reason why I left was because you gotta go through too many steps. I had called to have someone come out to look at the garage because allegedly it was covered but when talking to the person, I was told because the garage wasn’t connected, it was not covered. I told the person it was not what the plan indicates.

I'm debating on going back with the other company but it’s my husband that says stick with them. I feel like it’s too much of a hassle when you try to call to schedule, then they give you a number to call the vendor to schedule the appointment. Why am I calling them directly if I gotta turn around and call someone. The process to me is not that great. Lately, I've been calling other people even though I pay for this. My results are quicker just by going through Angie's List.

I wanted to replace my front door. We have an iron screen and then the actual front door. I just called and when the guy came out, he was saying we gotta take down the screen to measure the door and once they took the screen down and put the door up, we were saying, “Well, who’s putting back the screen?” It was like we’re supposed to provide someone to put the screen back on. If you take off a screen door and put up a regular front door, why would I hire someone else to put the screen door back on that you just took off? That doesn’t make sense. We’re disappointed but we’re still a member.

The first time that I filed a claim, I went to the policy with TotalProtect for how to file a claim. There was an 800 number and the representative assisted me very quickly and was pretty professional. They filed my claim and in 48 hours, the subcontractor made contact with me and notified me that there was a claim. They told me which days they were available and I set up the appointment with them.

The technician was really professional. I explained the situation to him and I guess based on his experience, he was able to find out the problem with the AC faster. They ordered the part, found it and received it. Then I had to reschedule a second appointment so that they could go and fix it because they were waiting for the part. So they fixed it. But about five days later, it wasn’t cooling properly during the day although at nighttime, it was cool. We made contact with the warranty company again and then they sent a technician the second time. He found a second issue and ever since then, the unit has been fine.

If something goes wrong, I don't have to try to figure out how I'm gonna replace it or get ripped off with some company coming out and overcharging me.

The first contractors worked with a leak in the house the day I moved in. They were amazing. They came out, the tech looked at the assessment, was very professional and very courteous. After I showed him the location and what was going on with the leak in the house, from the first floor into the basement, he walked me through. He said, “I think that I have an idea, and this is my plan of action. Are you comfortable with this?” I was so impressed with him. It was a great experience.

The second experience I had, my dishwasher started leaking on my floor. It was an older unit. When I called and made the selection, they sent Circle City I was not impressed with them. The tech who came out to do an assessment to decide if it could be repaired or if it could be replaced said he had to order the parts and see if he could even match it because the dishwasher was old. HMS sent another person. He did the same thing. He got down on the floor and he looked at everything. And his recommendation to replace it instead of trying to order the parts and fix it. HMS sent me the information that they were replacing. The tech pulled the unit out and installed the new unit, made sure that it worked before he left. The only thing was is that they couldn’t take the old unit so I picked it up myself and took it out to the trash.

It seems like every year we have one or two little problems with HMS but so far, so good. I didn’t really do any comparison shopping this past year. I may in the future but the cost seemed reasonable and it was in line with what we got when we bought this house a couple of years ago. The real estate agent probably shopped smartly for coverage at that time.

I'm very satisfied with the HMS contractors. Our refrigerator went out right in the middle of this COVID crisis and of course my wife was in a real panic ‘cause the foods are starting to spoil. They had to replace a compressor and we were lucky. When they showed up here, they had a compressor for our refrigerator and the tech was able to install it in a couple of hours. That was a good deal. We got really good service so we're pretty happy with it.

I had to reach out to workers and get it approved. It was a nightmare, so I was pleasantly surprised with HMS. They were recommended by my Realtor and they were reasonable. Submitting a claim was pretty easy. I mostly did it online. They were pretty prompt about finding me someone to do the work. I've had somebody work on electricity and someone else for plumbing. The contractor was great. We wrote it down to see if they send him back again if something happens again. We have been totally pleased with HMS. We also had something with our refrigerator, and they were wonderful too. What I really like about it is you call them and they get the people for you. They tell you who to call. We’ve had to have a few things replaced by Cinch. I bought a refrigerator brand new and the part was supposed to be under warranty but they discontinued that. Cinch was trying to get the company to pay for it and but they said we have a home warranty. And so Cinch ended up paying for it. But it took a long time to replace the refrigerator. I lived out of coolers for almost a month and a half. I probably could have paid for half of a new refrigerator with the amount of money I spent on ice.

Then, I had an issue with a washer but the guy that came out broke a part. Cinch only charged me one fee but they had to come out several times for the same thing. I asked to not have that tech come back. It was never fixed correctly. I have since bought new washers. But for the most part, the contractors have been good. The ones they sent out for the heat system were right out here, although they charged me an extra $700 that had to come out of pocket. There was some stuff that Cinch didn’t cover, which I was unaware of and I wasn’t happy with that.

The most recent claim I filed with TotalProtect was for the water backing up into the basement. The contractors worked on it and they thought it might be what's going out to the line. They were trying to go through the line to get to it. The guy said there was still a clog in there and he said that might solve the problem. He told me to call the sewage department. They came out this morning and they found there was a problem there. I have to call-in to the tech but so far, we've used the kitchen sink and we have not seen any problem popping up.

The one we had before that with the dishwasher. The contractors came out and they got it running. When we went to use it about a week later, we opened the door when it was running and the water didn't shut off. We couldn't stop it and put anything in it. We called the company back and they said the work order had been closed and I had to get another work order from the insurance company. We called TotalProtect, and unfortunately, it was during the virus. They were all shut down and everything.

They put another call into the electronic system and they sent it to another company. I said it was not what we needed because we asked this other company to come out and they need a work order on this. We have not heard anything back from that as of yet. But that's the only problem we've had with TotalProtect during the time we've had them. They're a very good company. The virus slowed everything down and that's understandable.

I’m a Union employee and TotalProtect is a benefit through the Union. I submitted a claim for the air conditioning unit and then someone came in a day or two, which was fairly quick. I did not like the unknown out-of-pocket expenses. I felt we were being price-gouged. It was $2,350. I felt the contractor was taking advantage of the whole pandemic situation and probably not having a lot of work and definitely price-gouging somebody who needed work done and had the savings to pay it.

TotalProtect thought it was expensive too, but there was nothing that they could do about those costs. The contractor tried to charge for things that were like, “Hold on. Why? Wouldn’t that already have been included in the cost?” He asked some questions. Maybe we shouldn’t have answered them, but my husband’s a teacher and I work for the government. But it shouldn’t have mattered. You shouldn’t take advantage of people, ever. We’re not rich by any means. We live in Southern California, so when it’s 93 degrees and you have four children, you can’t not have air conditioning. We didn't have a choice. But other than that, TotalProtect's coverage was good.

Very professional. I tried to determine it myself. My house is big and he really knew where to go to find the problem. His method of locating the problem was funny to me, but it worked. He went straight to the problem. He was amazing and was very nice.

He wrote my bill, I paid him, and told me if I had any more problems, to call to let him know, and I haven’t. Also, he was ready with the COVID. He came here with a mask. He just needed a whole-body suit. It was a great job. Cinch has answering services that pick up at night and even somebody picks up, too, if I don’t want to deal with answering service. I'll tell others I use Cinch and had no problems. I’d let them know that it’s not insurance but more of a homeowners’ warranty where it doesn’t pay for sudden and accidental but for things that break over time. When submitting a claim I just follow the online prompts. Once the claim is submitted, they provide the number and tell me to call them for an appointment. If it’s after hours, you could leave a message. They tell me who they’ve assigned it to and to call them. If it’s a Friday, contractors are dispatched probably that Monday or Tuesday ‘cause they don’t work on a weekend. That's three to five business days. Interaction with service providers is great because they call, confirm the appointed time, confirm it again a day or two before, and then you can follow the technician with a link they send you. I was with TotalProtect for about 15 years. When I went to file a claim, that’s when it said they're Cinch now.

I had a claim on my AC system that was not working properly, and the service provider came to my house and they were professional. The service people are usually not the best, but I was pleasantly surprised and everything worked out fine. What I don't like about HMS, however, is the stupid automated system, which does not work properly. They schedule something and then you are not scheduled with a service provider. The automated system needs to have an overhaul or something needs to be altered. So, my clients and I want to talk to a human, and I never have a problem.

Sometimes, filing claims can be a hassle. Sometimes, I get really good people, and sometimes, I get someone that’s not listening. I had a bad experience with my washing machine where TotalProtect didn’t replace it. It was unfortunate because what happened is that the whole tub came off. It was totally eroded. It was nothing I did, it was from wear and tear. I had been without a washing machine for 3 months, so I went ahead and replaced it and they wouldn’t pay for it. But they usually pay for everything and they were saying that the policy had changed. They don’t pay for certain things, and I understand that.

Right now, I'm still having a issue, but it's not TotalProtect. My air conditioning unit is not working properly, and it's the same situation that’s been going on for quite a while. It's with the furnace, so it affects the AC unit and the heating system. When something keeps existing like that, it should be replaced because something is wrong with the entire system instead of having a service technician come out and replace this and that. It seems like they're putting out more money replacing certain things, then they have to come back out again because it's still not working. I'm waiting for Sears right now. They rescheduled the repair because they didn’t have the part. I'm being put on the back burner again until next week. So, hopefully, they'll have the part by then because I don’t have a working unit. But overall, I feel it's good to have the protection because I have had great experiences with TotalProtect and they did replace items that needed to be replaced.

He just said that it was a preexisting thing. But he cut a whole my ceiling that I still haven’t gotten patched up. The communication is not where it should be. Sometimes, the communication between the actual person providing the service and the communication with the customer is a little bad. There should also be a direct line you could speak with somebody at all times.

Sometimes, you get these contractors that don’t really wanna do the job. They just come in and don’t wanna do anything. HMS should have a service provider selection. If a guy has done something and it didn’t turn out as well or you wanna get a new service provider, they should make that easier or they should have somebody that you can look up reviews or something prior to the service delivery.

I worked as a real estate assistant for years and I've investigated all those warranty companies. Cinch is the best out there because so many of the companies don’t do any replacements. We had them out for a hot water heater years ago and then they came out last year and this year about our air conditioner. The people they sent about the air conditioner out of Jacksonville were fabulous. I liked them because they have the same name as my maiden name. Cinch has been really prompt. At first, the contractor told me they had no appointments available for days and then they called back and said that they had one and the tech was in the area and he was gonna come that day instead of waiting three or four days. He was very polite and professional.

My washing machine was spinning and for a week or two, it didn't seem to be wringing the clothes very good. It was making a terrible noise so my husband rand and cut it off. I thought it was because I haven’t had too many in here. But I rearranged them and put them on and it did the same thing. So I called Cinch immediately. There was water in the tub and when the contractor came out here trying to get it to spin, the tech thought he had it fixed and he turned it on and the water came in, and then it went to spin and it started all over again.

Cinch called me and said that it was gonna cost over $600 to fix it and they said they would replace it. Then they called and told me they were ordering a part for it and that it should be in on Monday and that they’d try to come on Monday. But in the meantime, the water was still in the pump. Ever since the contractor left, the water was out of the washer. So I’ve had all these towels I've had to mop up with. Finally, the water is out of my floor now and it’s done.

I heard about HMS form a friend and I’ve had them for eight years since I moved into the house. A month ago, I took the buyout because I didn’t want white appliances. So, they replaced the refrigerator in my kitchen with something else. But I didn’t know that they only do one appliance in the house. Also, the supervisor didn’t return calls. You can leave a thousand messages but nobody ever will call you back. She still has not called me back today. Still, the technician was very pleasant and polite.

The last experience when TotalProtect had to replace my washer was a difficult one. When they sent me an email, they didn’t either they would deliver a washer or I could get $520. That email never showed one thing about TotalProtect. And I didn’t know until I called them up to say, “Hey, what’s going on? I haven't heard from you guys.” And then, they tried to tell me it was past the time and that I had to take the $520. I said no. I don’t answer my emails if I don’t know who it came from because there are too many scams and I'm surely not going to click on a link. They sent two emails. The rep tried to argue with me that I had to make the money instead of the washer.

I said, “You know what? I'm gonna call my attorney. Just so you know, I have an attorney that I pay monthly for, so it doesn’t matter.” She asked me why I would do that. I told her because they didn’t come across as they were from TotalProtect. There was nothing in the header or anything that said they were TotalProtect. She said, “Give me a minute,” because I wanted to talk to the supervisor, and then she got back on the phone and said, “Well, we can give it to you this time. We’ll send the washer.” They eventually did, but that was my experience, so I wasn’t too happy about that.

Other than that, the contractor was great. The guy was right on top of it. It was Sears Service and he called TotalProtect right away while I was standing there. He said, “I can't fix it. I can’t get the part,” and he said that TotalProtect would be in touch with me. That’s what I was waiting for. TotalProtect never got in touch with me. They did with an email with nothing in it that told me they were TotalProtect so TotalProtect needs to have their name on there somewhere.

I have Cinch on my home and on my property and everything has been great with them. Recently, I had an issue with the stove and the first provider that they sent out couldn't get parts. So, I called Cinch and spoke to a supervisor. He said they wouldn't replace it but I told him that the problem had been going on for three weeks and it was two days before Thanksgiving. He said he would speak to another supervisor on how to get the part as soon as they could. But I told him to let me go buy the part because I know a place here where they sell the parts and he said I could do that.

He also said that they could just give me what it would cost to replace the stove and I could replace it myself. So, that was what I did. I was able to replace it with that price, too so I was happy with it. The reps at Cinch were diligent as well. And so far, I have been very happy with them because if you cope with the situation and you address it, they try to solve it to the best of their ability and stand by the customer.

Last month was the first time we called for a repairman. We tried to go through the process on a Friday or a Saturday, but the website was down. We had to wait for Monday. Once it was Monday, I was able to log in and kind of request someone to come. Once we reached them things were smooth and easy. The guy was supposed to come at 2 PM, but he called by 10 and said he was available right then. He asked if he could go then and I said yes. The guy came, worked on the refrigerator, and an hour later, it was all fixed.

Five years ago, we went from American Home Shield to TotalProtect because they were a little cheaper then, but now, the price looks the same for the insurance. Also, they sent me a letter saying that they were going to have to stop servicing me because they had problems with getting the techs to come. We live in Corona and there was none locally. They spent a lot of time to get people to come and I was sad that they had problems.

We didn’t use TotalProtect a lot, but during the times that we did, it was excellent. I loved it. When we had problems with the air conditioning, we had this tech that was up here and he was excellent. Every time something would happen, I would call to see if they could get him. I would call his office. His wife was his secretary and that’s one thing I’m going to miss. Just before they stopped the coverage though, I filled in an order for an outlet in the garage. They fixed it and they were wonderful.

When I purchased the house, my Realtor highly recommended HMS Home Warranty. Also, I believe that about 20 years ago, I had the home warranty service as well. That name rang a bell with me. I went with them and it's so easy to make service requests. The response time is unbelievable too. I am so impressed. By the time I submit my request, my phone is ringing from the other end to schedule an appointment. The contractors are professional, courteous and very expeditious in getting the job done, and I greatly appreciate that. They are very knowledgeable too.

One time, my sink was stopped up and it was one issue but the garbage disposal was broken which backed up the sink. The contractor had to clear out the lines on the sink. They also fixed the pipe underneath the sink and molded it better together because it was leaking. Two days later, they came back and put the garbage disposal in. The warranty for the garbage disposal was only good for 60 days though and I felt like it could have been bit better. It’s still a good deal, but I shouldn’t have had to pay another $100 for the contractor to come back out again. Still, I understand it.

I used Cinch for years when I was managing insurance sales with the Regent Finance Corporation. In my years there, I never saw them turn down a claim and I knew then they're a good company, so I thought I had got to get this plan. I go to the website to submit claims and it’s pretty straightforward. They got all my information and I just put what I need.

The first time I used it, they got back with me immediately. In less than 15 minutes, I had an e-mail back with the information on who’s gonna call. It worked better than I ever anticipated. But I didn’t know what the process was and I didn’t know I was required to use one of their contractors. I already had a guy here and he had equipment with him. I went ahead and paid to have the job done. Cinch set up for a guy from Birmingham but he couldn't get here for two or three days. I told them to not worry about it and the rep told me to send her the invoice. I e-mailed her the invoice and a few days later, I got a check in the mail. It works so seamlessly and Cinch has always been that way since I used them. It’s one of the reasons I love the plan.

HMS has been active when I bought the house from the previous owners. Submitting the claim is quick and easy. On the website, there is not a lot of information for details, and if there is any detailed information that needs to be shared, you have to call and go through voicemail to get somebody and then explain the details to them to make sure that everything is covered and recorded accurately. They have some dropdown selection options, but it doesn’t cover everything. They should have more spaces to include items for multiple issues.

I have a sink faucet broke, a bathroom faucet broke, and another bathroom tub shower issue. I cannot put those three things in there. I can just put plumbing. But, then without that detail, the service provider will show up and ask what I need. When I say all these things, he will then say that he doesn’t know if he can do these three. Then you have to go through a whole issue. Nevertheless, every contractor that has showed up has been great. The only problem I have with it is that there is usually a several-day wait to get anyone out here, and that could be an issue like when the hot water heater breaks, the heat goes out.

Subsequently, we put a new AC system in and a coil. We’ve come to where, ironically, when we had a cold spell, the heater had to be replaced. Cinch wants our stimulus money, and now with the air conditioner, we just thought maybe it covered more, but ironically, it only covers the coil. Our microwave died a few weeks ago and the repair guy had it fixed within a week, which wasn't horrible so, it wasn't that big of a deal. We had the washer a few years back and HMS did a good job of replacing that. So, in general, we've had good luck. They are receptive, quick, gets it done and we don't have to wait a long time, for the most part. But it would be cool if they could give status updates via text or email.

I got a service contract for protection if something happens, and I know that it’s taken care of and it’s not going to be a $3,000 bill. I just went to the website and submitted a claim. It was fairly easy. Cinch sent me information about who the contractor was and the phone number, and that I should hear from them within a certain time period.

The contractor was pleasant but hard to get ahold of. For instance, they said that, “We’re gonna order the part and you’ll hear back from us.” It made it seem like it was only going to be a week and I didn’t hear from them. I had to be home from work, I had to schedule this time, so I needed to know when to be there. When I called them and left messages, I didn’t hear back from them at first. And then, I called again and said, “Look. I'm gonna call the warranty if I don’t hear from you guys ‘cause I'm waiting and I don’t know what’s happening.” I've already paid them because they already came out and assessed the problem. I just wanted to make sure that they were going to come back. They didn’t seem as professional as what I had expected.

My icemaker is fixed. The first time the tech came out, he didn’t do much. But if he assessed the icemaker a bit more, he probably would’ve got the correct part the first time. But he went ahead and just replaced the icemaker the first time and he was here in less than 10 minutes. So, I felt he spent less than five minutes on the actual icemaker. Then he told me, “No, it might take a couple of days before it works with icemakers.” A couple of days went by, I still had no ice. And then I had to wait for him to come out again to look at it again to tell me that it was something else. He was here for over 30 minutes that time. If he did that the first time, maybe I wouldn’t have had to wait so long for installation. It could’ve taken half the time.

When I bought the house I had a one-year warranty and HMS Home Warranty was the company that was chosen by the seller. I have continued it since then. It’s been eight years now since I’ve had the warranty and where I’ve had the most issues is about appliances. When my dryer and washer went out one time, it took weeks to be resolved because a part had to be ordered but they ordered the wrong part. I went to a laundromat for at least a month, which was less than satisfactory. My elderly mom lives us with us, so having a washer and dryer was really important. With the dishwasher, however, I don’t remember having the same problem. Recently we had a clogged drain. The techs came out the next day and end up having to do some major work that was not covered by the warranty but they did a great job. Overall the experiences had been positive.

Submitting claims to HMS has been great. They're fast and things are easy. I've been pleasantly surprised with them. Thus far, all of my dealings with them have had to do with my air conditioning which I've had a lot of problems with. There have been two or three different companies that I've had dealings with through them and they've all been okay. This has been a bargain. I’ve spent about $1500 and I’ve received $8000 worth of stuff. I got Freon and service calls. When I finally replaced everything, HMS even helped pay for that. I have told several people that my HMS warranty is a great deal. I couldn't be happier with it.

However, I was a little disappointed with the first guy that came out as he ordered all the wrong parts for the microwave. The claim was two weeks longer than it should have been because of that. Cinch ended up replacing my microwave because they didn’t have the parts that it needed. So, that was a little bit frustrating. Still, their warranty is a good investment.

Since 2017, when I bought my house, this week is the first time I've ever had a negative experience with HMS. I had a problem with my electrical on Sunday and I didn't have power to my house partially, almost every room in my house. I did my claim and I was told that the electrician assigned would give me a call. They were the electrician that had come out to my house before to fix appliances and I called them to ask when they were going to come. They said they didn't have anyone and that HMS was going give me another person.

When I called the customer service to follow up, they also said they didn't have anyone and that I had to wait 48 hours until they reassigned someone. I finally got someone and they came out on Wednesday, but from Sunday to Wednesday, I hadn't heard anything. If my kitchen hadn't had power, I would have lost food, my refrigerator and all that. They couldn't hurry up and find somebody the day they found out that the person that they assigned me to didn't have someone? It was a little disappointing. Other than that, the guy who came out and fixed everything was awesome and he did a great job.

I found TotalProtect back in early 2000 when I lived in Illinois. My parents had it when they got their house, they kept it. They told me and I had its home plan. When I moved to Texas and bought a house, I asked for a home warranty and specifically said that I wanted TotalProtect. Submitting claims had been easy, but something has changed. In the past, I would call in and the person would take my stuff over the phone. They would then get everything set up and somebody would come out.

Last time I called, it was automated. It was a pain in the **. The automation does not allow you in any way to get to a person. You gotta push this button and this button, but it does not give any direction so I could speak to a person. None of the options were what I was looking for. They should get a better automated phone system that allows me to zero out to, so I could speak to someone, or improvise better options.

When I was trying to figure out why my bill was delinquent, the system didn't say how I could get accounts receivable. I had to go through all the options. When I got someone, I said that I gotta get home and look at my record. I was told that when I called back, go to these options and push these options. It had nothing to do with my billing, and I would not have known, which was irritating. I’ve talked to other people who have the same type of service and they have been disappointed. But I have not been disappointed with TotalProtect. There was a service provider last year who worked on the wrong air condition. But that's not their fault. They just hired an idiot.

When I bought my house in 1999, one of the selling points was that it came with a home warranty, and then I kept it up-to-date the whole time. Submitting a claim to HMS seems to be okay. You can do it either through them or online, and both seem to be about equivalent as far as getting things done. I was surprised this last time during the pandemic that they were able to get someone out at 24 hours from when I called. The time when the guy came out to check the air conditioner, he had gloves and a mask. He checked inside and outside to make sure because we had an issue that it didn’t seem to kick on right. He was here within 24 hours, too. They called and set up the time frame he would be there. Then, they said he’d call like a half hour before the expected time and he did, and he was here.

Through the warranty, I have gotten new central air conditioning, new washer-dryer, parts repaired on the dishwasher, a new sump pump, and a brand-new stove and refrigerator. The stuff that was in the house when we moved in was brand-new. That was part of why we liked having the warranty, because going from living in an apartment to a house, we weren’t sure when all that stuff would need to be replaced, how long it would last -- we were renters before, so that was why we kept it up, and it seems to have paid off. in my mind. When you’re moving to a new area, you also don't know the services and the people to call. With them, we never had to worry about who to call to fix something, and because it is through HMS, the work is guaranteed. Also, you used to be able to pay more to get a smaller deductible, but they seem to be flattening that out more so that you don’t have quite as many options.

I had one other time that I called out to have somebody come out and that was on a pipe repair. All they did was come out and saw a glass of water at a door and tell me that that's what was leaking when we knew it was the pipe. All they were concerned about was getting the deductible and leaving. I'm now having to replace mold and a bunch of other stuff that should have been repaired when they came out. They didn't even look at where the pipe was damaged. So I wasn't really happy with the first group that came out. I was considering canceling TotalProtect because of my first go-around with them. When my hot water heater went out, TotalProtect couldn’t provide a plumber in the local area, so they got one out of Jacksonville. The two people that came down were two kids out of high school and they didn’t know anything about plumbing, so they bungled it up a little bit. Then, TotalProtect tried to get a plumber out of Orlando and the guy in Orlando said that he was not gonna go all the way up there for that. It bothers me why there are times when TotalProtect has no one available in the Daytona Beach area to accomplish the task when there are plenty of plumbers and electricians all over the place.

And based on the policy, the procedure would be that they would notify of their issue on getting a tech out, then I had to go somewhere and get an estimate. Then they had to approve it, etcetera. In the meantime, my garage floors had water all over it because the thing was leaking and I didn’t have any hot water. This went on for a month or so and I told them that I was gonna go and get my hot water replaced because I couldn't live with that.

Then, I got a letter from the head of TotalProtect who said that they were really sorry about all of that. He also said that I could do whatever I had to do then I could send them the bill and they would take care of it. Unfortunately, I didn’t make a copy of that letter. But as a result of the request in that letter, I filed my claim and it came back denied. And for six months, I fought them about that letter but nobody knows where it is now. So, I just gulped up the loss and said to hell with them. I had to fight for a long time and I'd go to two dozen people in their company there. It was like reinventing the wheel every time and it was exasperating. Despite that, my wife wanted to keep the warranty, so that's what we do. But if it would have been me, I'd drop it in a minute. Other than that, there had been times when TotalProtect had been excellent. They responded immediately and the work was done properly.

So far, I've had a good experience with HMS. Submitting claims has been very easy. They're very informative. They’ve educated me on how the policy works and what is covered and what is not. And I've already used it twice, and both times, everything has gone well. The first time, my outlets were not working, so I had no electricity throughout the house, and then it was a quick fix. So, they were able to take care of that and explained to me why it happened. And the second time, I was told that there was a leak in my air conditioning. They came out, and they explained that it wasn’t a leak, but they offered to come back by the end of May to take a look at it again. The contractors seemed nice and professional.

Each time I submitted a claim to HMS, the reps were just polite, nice, business-like. Overall, I like getting good customer service and people explaining things to me when I’m not sure how things work. So, both times both agents were good. However, the system isn’t being updated correctly. I kept calling and it was telling me that I owed money, but the seller was supposed to pay for it. And it took a long time for me to get through the call. The first agent told me, “It won't happen again. You’re covered,” finally, when I got through. But then the second time I called, the same thing still happened. So, it was a little bit of a pain. Because I had to go through a lot of prompts to try to get it to work, to allow the agent to pick my call.

Cinch's claims process is a little bit better. The service providers themselves are randomly selected and I’ve had some hit or miss experiences with some of them. But for the most part, people are pretty good. The biggest problem I’ve had, sometimes it’d be around the sense of urgency. Everybody’s claim is urgent, but I’ve had situations where we didn’t have air conditioning for four days in Houston. As long as people can get out, it’s fine. For the last few claims that I’ve had, it’s been reasonable in terms of the amount of turnaround time for them to come out. I’ve had a couple of AC situations that were a little bit ridiculous, but for the most part, it’s been a pretty good experience.

I had a toilet that was clogged and they came quickly. But when the guy came out and checked it, he said to Cinch that he couldn’t tell but there was probably something obstructing it, and that was that. They couldn’t fix that. I don’t know all the policies if there’s something obstructing but I had to pay somebody else to come out. Cinch came through for the last few times, but there’s always room for improvement. If it was that horrible, then I would just get another provider. But they handled the things that I needed to have handled.

On occasion, HMS takes a little longer than we would like for approvals and to get the equipment fixed. But other than that, everybody has been responsive. Although it was much better this last month, there was one previous to that that took over a week to get a part authorized for our air conditioning system. Being that we live in Saint Cloud, Florida, in the middle of summer, it's not a place you wanna be without air conditioning for a week and a half.

Everything’s working out well with TotalProtect . Recently, I had a claim for the air conditioning and the contractor who came out was excellent. But when I had a water heater go out, the contractor was horrific. All I wanted was for my water heater to be replaced. I’ve installed three water heaters in my house and I’m in Home Depot all the time, so I know what they cost. He wanted to charge me almost $600 above and beyond what the warranty claim was going to allow to install my water heater. I just got rid of him and told him that I’d do it myself. I went out and bought a water heater, and installed it for $450 instead of almost 1,000. That’s not even including the deductible I had to pay, which was a nonrefundable $125.

I also called TotalProtect to tell them about what happened and that they should get rid of that contractor. He’s terrible. We got TotalProtect at my Dad’s house as well and they were great there. But when my Dad’s water heater went out, they sent out the same contractor because that’s who they were using. And he was horrible too. But my dad needed a water heater and he just wanted to pay the coverage.

I love the online portal for submitting the claim. We receive the information for a company to call quite quickly, and that is very smooth. The challenge comes if you need to speak to someone. It's almost impossible. Also, some contracting companies are really, really good but some have tried to perpetrate fraud. When our garage door stopped opening, we filed a claim and the folks that came out said that we were responsible for damaging the garage door, which made no sense. Then, they said that all of the springs, brackets, rails, and the electric motor needed to be replaced and that none of those is covered by warranty. It would have cost us about $800 to fix it.

It didn’t sound right to me, so we ended up calling another company for a second opinion, not through HMS. They said the springs, brackets, and rails were fine and the only thing that needed to be replaced was the motor. The guy also said that there was nothing we did to damage the garage door and that the motor burned out due to the age of the door opener. They charged us a few hundred dollars. HMS refused to reimburse me for the cost that we had to pay out-of-pocket to fix what needed to be fixed and they said that our claim wasn’t valid. I had called back a few times to speak to someone and they said they would have a manager call me back and no one ever called me back.

Before, submitting a claim with HMS was like pulling teeth. When you would call, they'd put you through to all these people. That's the part that really was a challenge for me. But now, you speak to a person and it's like a one-stop-shop. You have this claims person to take the claim, give you a claim number, give you the contact person who will be contacting you regarding the follow-up, whether it's electrical, plumbing. I've been with HMS since 2003 and it seemed to have gotten better over the years.

The last time I spoke with the representatives, I had a question regarding reviewing my policy 'cause it's been so long, maybe adding something to it. Because the question, what prompt it was I wanted my air conditioner serviced, and he said I didn't have that in my policy. I'm like, "I don't?" He said, "No. You should look into that or do some research now at different companies that come out and service the air condition." But I was like, "I'd rather stick with my insurance." But he said I didn't have that.

Normally, within 24 hours, somebody’s calling me and coming in to do the work. The people that I’ve dealt with so far have been fine. They've been very professional. I'm happy with TotalProtect. It's not TotalProtect that I'm having issues with. It's the company that came out to my home. When my washer and dryer stopped working, I ended up calling TotalProtect and they went ahead and put in the order for a company to come out. That company was A&S Services and they sent this technician by the name of Mike, who was a very rude person.

The first time he came, I wasn't home but I was just down the street and when my son didn’t open the gate for him, he was only gonna give me 10 minutes to get here until I could give him the deductible. Straight out, he said he needed his deductible before he could start. I was being polite and I gave him the deductible. Then he checked my washer and dryer, and he said he was gonna order a part. He took pictures of it. I had to wait three weeks to get this washer and dryer going. I'm a foster parent with three autistic non-verbal kids. They pee in the bed. It was just terrible.

When the part got here, Mike came in and I opened the gate for him. Then he said he would walk behind me and close my gate. Then he said, “You work out?” I went, “Excuse me?” So I asked for his name and he couldn’t give it to me. I told him I had spoken to a Mike, the dispatcher and this guy said that was another Mike. He said he’s Mike too and he’s the other’s supervisor. He walked in and he was going to the garage that's attached to my house. I went into the house and a few minutes later, he knocked at my door and said there was a problem. He had the wrong part. I asked, “Don't you guys have extra parts at the warehouse? Don't they match the serial number to make sure that the parts that came in matches with what you guys order?" He said it wasn’t his job and that if I have a problem, to call his supervisor. He is such a jerk.

When I called the supervisor, I didn't get a hold of a supervisor. I got a hold of Mike. I asked if this guy was his supervisor and he said no and that he was just a technician. I told him I needed the guy out of my house, that he was being very rude and that I didn’t like the little comments that he was saying. He did not yell at me because he's very calm. But with the words that he said, he was just mean. When I went back to the technician, I told him, "You know, you lied to me." He said he didn’t and that he told me he was a technician supervisor. I said that he told me he was Mike’s supervisor and he said I just didn’t understand. I told him he needed to leave my house and ever since that happened, I've been having so many issues. I even had an issue with a girl named Alicia, their representative. She was very rude. It's frustrating.

I called the warranty company and told the rep I didn’t want that company here. I had gotten a call from somebody at that company and they told me that Mike was gonna come to my house because he was really pissed off. I don't know what he was gonna do. So I ended up calling the police and made a police report. I have my daughter, my son and my daughter-in-law here. I do not want him stopping by my house because now, he's accusing that I tried to seduce him.

TotalProtect told me that they were gonna go ahead and give me another company, which they did. But when I made an appointment with that company, the girl was being rude. I told her my call was an emergency and she said all calls are emergencies. The earliest she could get someone out here was gonna be Thursday and I said, “"You know what, that's fine. I've been without a washing machine for freaking three weeks, and a dryer."

After all that happened, I got a phone call from the first company again saying that Richard was supposed to come back to my house because I didn't want Mike here anymore. Then Richard said he wasn’t going out anymore and that he had told Mike. Mike said it was okay and that we had another company but he was gonna find out what company was gonna go here. I guess there's a program where they could see what company is gonna come out to my house. This is sad the way they work with things. This is sad how Mike wants to get somebody back. It's wrong. I don't want anything to do with that company whatsoever.

Then I got a call from the second company saying they had to cancel that Thursday appointment and make it for Friday. It was ridiculous. So then I started thinking when Mike found out what company was coming out to my home. I ended up canceling with the second company. I don't need this issue. I'm very disappointed. But it's not TotalProtect I'm having issues with. They have been very good to me. When my refrigerator broke, I called TotalProtect and they sent out a company that was very polite. The man that came in ordered a part and said that when the part comes in, he would be out here. He fixed my refrigerator and I didn’t have any issues. For this washer and dryer claim, I'm asking for my deductible back but TotalProtect said they couldn't give it back to me. It would be up to the company that came out to my home. When I asked the company, they wouldn't give it to me.

I'm from the old school. They want everybody go online but I like to talk to somebody. Everything wants you to go on a computer and do all it is there. But if we do all of that, what about their job? Not only just them, but everybody. One guy came and he said he didn’t have the machine, so we had to wait another week. I was disappointed because it took him so long to fix my sink. It took him a week and a half to get here. And then when he got here, some other person had to come who didn’t have the machine and all this stuff. So, we had to wait another week for the guy to come. It was over two weeks. I told the company that the second man they sent did fix it but it was just a shame that we had to wait over two weeks to just get the sink fixed. I told them that I was upset with it because with all the hand washing, we had to wash our clothes in the bathtub.

You get frustrated when stuff breaks down. You don’t want anything to happen. It wasn’t a big problem. It wasn’t like the water was backing up. It was just something there that water went down real slow. The first guy went in there and got something out of there, but he said, “The water’s still going down real slow and I'm going to go back to the office,” and they needed the machine. They came the second time, then the guy said, “Well, how come he just didn’t get the machine and do it?” I said, “I don’t know.” Somebody else had to come in and were were inconvenienced. But it’s fixed now and I'm so glad.

But sometimes you have to wait too long before a provider could come and fix the problem. Before, I had my hot water tank go out on a Friday, so it was gonna be three days before somebody even came. Submitting a claim with HMS Home Warranty phone-wise was not a problem before ‘cause they had a live body. Now, it’s extremely difficult. The phone prompts don’t have recall situations. The initial appointment is good but when the service company comes and they don’t fix the problem, you don’t have anything on the prompts that say if it is the first call or if it is a recall for services already rendered. It’s very confusing. Now, I’m dealing with one service call and the machine has opened up three service requests. I wait until I get a live body on the phone and try to resolve it with them.

Their reps are pretty good. But the service company is a different story. I’m having a problem with Sears. I paid my deductible to Sears and then they cashed my check the day after. They came for a recall two days after they came. The machine didn’t work so they came back. Now they sent me a bill for $100 that I needed to pay them again. I told them that they got me messed up because they didn't fix the problem and it was the same call. I'm not paying them $100.

HMS Home Warranty is a great company. I’m not happy about the increase in the service call but it’s a good service. I recommend it to all my friends. You don’t have to have a new house in order to have coverage. That’s a misconception with homeowners, that once the warranty wears out or expires, you can’t warranty your house again. I’ve been happy with the many years of service from HMS.

I came home one time and we had smoke coming out of our air conditioning closet. We looked into it and I figured it was covered under the home warranty package I got from Cinch. I called them and placed the claim. That was in the middle of winter and the claim took a week. It was below freezing that week but luckily, we had a wood-burning stove. Other than the time it took to get somebody out to our location, I'm just glad I didn't have to spend $1,200 replacing the heater.

I've been with Cinch for four years now and they've been very good to me. As I'm not good on the computer, I call them to submit claims and their reps give me a number to call a contractor. I have that contractor come out as long as they're covered by my warranty and fix my issue.

A few years ago, they fixed the heat thing in my dryer. I keep track of my maintenance to keep everything in decent shape. If I get a major issue, I'm pretty much covered. My last claim cost me extra because of the part they had to get. Cinch got the cost split between them and me ‘cause that was my second issue within a few months. Still, claims typically only cost me $125.

Another warranty provider whom I've talked to told me that other places outside my house are not covered under their warranty. With Cinch, if water leaks outside my house, I'm covered. The first time that happened, I wasn't covered and my cost was over $1,000. The next time, I was covered and I only paid $125. It's the same with my septic tank. If something happens to that, then it's covered.

I rely on them to vet the contractors for me since they don't work for me and I don't know them. I have submitted two claims and the first claim that I did was very difficult. I was talking to too many departments and nobody knew anything, so it was really confusing. The second time I did it though, it was perfect. I was in contact with just one section and they took care of everything. So far, the two things that I've had completed has been good and I didn't have to do it over.

I had a drain blockage and I was under the impression the blockage was in my garbage disposal. But then, it wasn't there. The last contractor I had through Cinch took a plunger, hit the drain twice and things went straight through. That cost me $100. Had I known it wasn’t the garbage disposal itself, I could’ve spent $2.85 and bought the plunger myself. I wouldn’t mind paying $50 just for him to come out and do that. But for $100 for him to come out and do two plunges is a little stiff. Also, Cinch should look into their contractor's credentials and their reviews. That would entice the consumers to feel comfortable. Some of their contractors are good and some aren’t worth the filth. Still, I've had Cinch for 15-plus years now and whenever I utilized them, I’ve gotten good service so far.

Sears' customer service is very thorough. I have the 72.99 monthly home protection which covers everything. I have the actual plan where the technicians come, they check the air conditioner and make sure it’s running fine. The gentleman came out and he checked it. I even went out. I spoke to him. I had questions to ask him. He was very knowledgeable and professional. The same with the plumbing people from Aqua. They’re terrific. They’re from Tampa, they know what they were doing, and they were spot-on. Anything that they did here was to perfection and they work very hard. They have a contract with Sears but they know how they resolve the issues, like a leaking toilet and the water softener.

One time I was getting ready to call them because there was some plumbing that burst on the front lawn. Luckily, it was not mine. It was the county’s issue because it was on the county side of the meter, and the dial on water meter was not even spinning. So, I called Aqua. You have to call to verify that they’re coming out. I spoke to the manager, Constantine, and he said, “Steve, is the meter spinning?” I said, “No, it’s not. It’s to the left of the meter.” He has been here so he knows the house and the meter. He said, “That’s not your problem. That’s not your responsibility. Don’t worry about it. That is something the county needs to come and maintain and repair,” which they did.

Of course, I wasn’t billed water because the water wasn’t even going through the meter. It was amazing. It was like a miraculous fountain of youth. Because I'm in Florida, you worry about standing water and especially that much water because we don’t want sinkholes. It’s frightening, but when the county came out, they said, “No.” I said, “Do you think that it was a deposit, sinkhole problem?” They said, “Oh, no.” I'm very happy with Constantine and the group.

Sears is always cooperative. At first, I was afraid because the Sears near me at mall closed I guess with the economy and this was before the Coronavirus. We lost a lot of Sears. We grew up with Sears. I'm 65 years old. It was Sears, Roebuck and Co. Tremendous. Like the May company, Bigby’s and Macy’s. We grew up with those stores. And I always loved going to Sears. Their warranty is terrific. I hope it does not go out of business. I'm very happy with the Sears Home Warranty. I love it. I love the people that come out. They're great people. We love them. We love the service. They’re honest. I've never had to call them back and say, “I wasn’t happy with this or that.” They know exactly how to diagnose that it’s incredible. So, I'm really happy and I would recommend them. I give them kudos. I wouldn’t be without them, as long as I can afford it.

They should verify the knowledge base of the people they employ for those kinds of calls to make sure that their customers are getting what they are paying.

HMS Warranty customer service reps are extremely nice and they are very responsive. But I give people the benefit of the doubt and say, “Okay, they call me the next day.” But they say no, that the people would call me that day. In fact, I get a call in the next 15 minutes. I had a plumbing problem once and they called me in less than 15 minutes. They said they were gonna come out in two days and that wasn’t a problem.

TotalProtect also replaced my washer, which was a good thing. The only thing I didn’t like about that was that they dealt with a third-party and I didn't care how they dealt with it. The third-party kept saying they lost it on the dock and I had to do the research. I got frustrated with that. I had to have someone do the calling for me because the anger was kicking in and when anger kicks in, you don’t give power to anger. Someone had to call for me because the words weren’t going off right. They finally got the situation handled and my washer finally got there. Their claims process is really simple. I just call them, and they’ll tell me to call this repair service company, then I make the call and set up the appointment. The contractors who came out have all done good work, too. They came for the dishwasher once and my experience had been good.

But I had a brand new washing machine and when it was less than a year old, I began having problems with it. I had it repaired about three times and I wondered why HMS kept putting money on it. While I pay the cost and there are probably hundreds of thousands of other people that hold the warranty, it was 125 when the contractors came out. And when they came out, they put a $300 part in the washer. Then, they came out again and put another $500 part in the washer. And one of the guys who came out was saying that the parts that they were putting in were costing more than the the price of buying a new washer.

If they call before they come, it would make a big difference. We're mostly in the back and we can't hear from there. We tell them to call and they should call anyway 20 or 30 minutes before they're gonna be here. Also, sometimes I gotta call them back if they don't solve the problem right then. But most of the time, the companies are okay and they solve the problem.

When I initially made my call for my water heater, I got someone who was willing to do the job, but they were on another job. They said that they couldn’t possibly get out to our home until the following day. Somehow, somebody else was free and closer. It was good that they communicated with each other. They recognized the emergency because I had hot water leaking. The second contractor contacted me and came out right away, but it was late when he got out here. He checked out what the problem was and then he left. He said he’d be back at around 10:30 from wherever he had to get the water heater from and that was what happened. Then he put the water heater in. He did a wonderful job. We’ve been with Cinch Home Services for quite a while and have been very pleased with them. But I don’t necessarily agree with the deposit we have to make. They should drop the price a little bit.

The claims process is smooth and it always gets fulfilled with a 100% fulfillment ratio. Submitting a claim is easy. HMS finding a contractor is pretty straightforward. The contractor showing up, doing the assessment, and trying to repair has been awesome. The step after that where the contractor proposes a recommendation, whether it’s a repair or a replacement, that’s where it gets stuck. Somehow, either the part or the product itself is in backorder and nobody takes care of that unless you follow up, chase, escalate, and then the things move a little bit in a brisk manner. After that, the disbursement of the payment or the product itself, the person coming in and fixing is smooth.

It is the only intermediate part when the normal process doesn’t allow all of the parties, especially HMS, to make things flow smoothly. That’s where I step in, make calls, sometimes may get the service provider and HMS on the same page and get them on a conference call. I have to arrange that but I shouldn’t be doing that. I do that because I want things to progress faster. If I would not take any initiative, it would just be lying over there for weeks and then months. I have made several claims since last year but overall, I’m pretty happy with HMS.

I have been with this company for a few years and they're good with telling you the next steps, but mostly, we’ve had to call on our own. Their automated computer system is terrible. They don’t have the phone number logged in, so you have to go through several steps to try and get somebody live on the phone. We’ve had a few issues with some things going on, but overall they have handled the claims very well. They typically send Sears, and they have not been able to resolve the problems. The last issue was with our washing machine, and Sears didn’t fix it.

The problem continued, but after a couple of calls, we finally got Cinch to reopen the claim. When I told them I would not deal with Sears anymore, they got us the phone number and we had to call Mr. Appliance to get the service set up. Mr. Appliance came out and they were very professional. We’re still not sure that that problem was resolved, but it was a complicated thing that was going on with our washing machine and we’re trying the fix for a few weeks to see if that is going to resolve the problem.

There was one contractor that I did not like because the tech took forever and he was the one that was assigned to me a lot. That was last year. The last time he came over, I got very aggravated with him because of the excuses, like it was my fault. I was very aggravated with the one that I tried to get over during the Christmas break because he didn’t want to come out because it was a Christmas break. And he said, “We decided to stop carrying TotalProtect.” So, I had to go through an approval process with TotalProtect to pay him out of pocket and then get reimbursed by TotalProtect. This was an air conditioning guy, because we had no heat. We lost our heat over Christmas. We had no heat for one night.

Finally, someone at TotalProtect got the approval because the next person on the list was upfront and said they won’t come until Monday. That was a Friday. And I said, “Look. I can't go all weekend with no heat.” “Oh, sure, you can.” And I said, “Are you kidding me? Really? Have you lived without heat in the middle of December for a whole weekend?”

The contractors need to understand if they are on TotalProtect's list that when people call, they just need to be honest and upfront if they can take a job or not, and not commit to a job and then make excuses. I had no heat at 7 o’clock at night, the guy agreed to come out here but then decided five minutes later to walk out to try to talk to his boss, “Oh, no, we decided we can’t do this,” because he just didn’t want to come out here. I know it was bad timing, but they should be used to that because that’s what they’re in business for and things like losing heat never times perfectly for anybody, especially in the middle of the night. Contractors need to understand when they contract business with you, they have got to fulfill it.

TotalProtect really needs to get contractors here in my area. That has been the problem because they don’t have any in Newton-Conover, so they call these people from the Charlotte area. They’re in Charlotte or Statesville, so they have to travel. It’s an irritation because it’s not a local job for them. I never had a local contractor but there are plenty around here. But other than that, the ones that recently have been coming whenever I had a problem have been fine. It is going pretty good.

I had a claim for the hot water heater and the people that Cinch Home sent out said that they had to repipe this and this. I told them that they didn't have to do that. Instead, I told them to bring me the hot water heater and put it there. But they said they couldn't do that. I called Cinch Home back and told them that the morons they sent out here were no good. They told me to just send them the bill, but when I did, they said that the company I hired were not on their contracting list.

Then, my furnace went out. At the time, it was 22 below 0 in Chicago and there was no way I could wait for Cinch Home to send the serviceman out to do it. It was gonna freeze up the water pipes then I'd have more of a mess to do, and only my appliances would go. I had to have the furnace done right then and there, and I told them about it. But they said they were sorry and that they didn't care about that. Cinch Home need to improve on their people. They’re in Florida and whoever I dealt with didn’t know what was going on in the whole underground. Nothing freezes in Florida and you can go without heat there. But you can’t go without heat here in Chicago in the winter.

They also told me to send them a bill but even when I did, they did nothing. And I was disappointed with them. Compared to that, the guy I called came out and checked the furnace in two hours. Then, it was back up and running, but it was no good. He said it was an old furnace and suggested that I replace it. I asked how long it was gonna take and he said that he could be here the next day and change it in one day. I agreed and it only took him a day to come out. He came out in the middle of the night and put the new furnace in.

Other than that, Cinch Home took care of my air conditioning unit at one time and that took them four weeks to do, which was no big deal because it was summer time and it was warm. But at another time, my air conditioning was blowing warm air and the serviceman was sent out three days later. He said that they had to charge it with Freon. I agreed and when he did, it cost me $65 at the time instead of a 125. After he charged it up, it was working. But it started getting warm again, so I called them up and told them about it.

The guy came out and said that there was a hole somewhere in there. He said they'd have to replace this and this. But I told him to call the home warranty company and explain to them what he had to do. He then said that for him to to take things out, I had to pay 400. I told him to get the approval for the repairs from Cinch Home and I would remove the unit myself. But then, he said I needed other things. Also, one time, the tech who came out said that he needed to replace a 220 60 amp breaker. But that was put in when they installed the appliance. I told him that that thing was perfect and to just replace the parts that he was supposed to.

All in all, I have Cinch Home for a long time and and they're good. So far, they've taken care of the minor stuff such as stoves, refrigerators, dishwashers, washers and recently, they sent out a tech who cleaned my dryer. But the people they sent out to do the major repairs would add stuff on thinking that I was a dummy. Cinch Home has to get better contractors and they have to set something else up, especially in the Corn Belt up in here in the north. They gotta find people that can be out here quickly.

When we bought the house, the previous owners had already purchased HMS and we kept it. They've been really good at claims. I've had a couple of bad contractors but the warranty has been pretty straightforward. They've covered everything we've asked them to and never had a kickback. We have used them quite a bit, given the house is not in the best state when we picked it up. There was an issue with the furnace outright where it had a control board that went out. Then there was another time when there was a hose that siphons the water off and it ended up breaching a leak and started pouring into the bathroom upstairs. Both times, we had our deductible but they fixed them without any issue.

We had less success with some of the appliances though. We've had a couple people come out and look at appliances. Every time, the contractors were just awful. They did require one of the groups to refund us our deductible and they took care of us there but we never got that stuff fixed because they only had the one contractor set up.

Another issue is that they pick the contractors and I don't get to pick. If we had a bad experience with one, I'd like to be able to pick a different one. It would be nice if we had at least some way to read ratings about them and if it doesn't strike us as what we want in our house, then it would be nice to change that. Plus, the deductible is high. For a warranty that's meant to cover mostly small jobs, we've had at least a couple of jobs where our deductible actually covered the work or was more than the work would have cost if we did it ourselves. That and the ability to choose our own contractors take it from being absolutely masterful. But other than that, they're been pretty good.

Getting a home warranty saves money. When you need something repaired, you don't need to pay a full price. I got one from Cinch Home and my experience with them has been decent. But they have so many different customer service people from different parts of the country and they tell you different things. One time when I submitted a claim, I first thought that it was disapproved then later on, somebody called me back that it wasn't. And it shouldn't have been that way.

I’ve had this situation at least twice. One for the doorbell not being electrical, and another time with my toilet. They charged me everything for the stuff on fixing my toilet. So, Cinch Home has too many different people but they don't have uniform information. As for their contractors, it seems like they have a lot of struggling contractors. Some of them are not very competent and the people that they send out sometimes don't know what they're doing. But when that happened to me, I called back and Cinch Home sent me another company.

The replacement was for a washing machine and it could be a little bit quieter than what it is, that would be the only thing that we really didn't like. But other than that, we were satisfied with it. Having a home warranty is very important. When something goes wrong, you don't have to worry about that big cost. Like, this washing machine, it was about $700. I got another part replaced and it was close to $1,000 on my heating unit. So, even though I had to put up the deductible, it's a lot better than having to put out the total cost of it.

HMS has been doing a good job. Filing a claim with them used to be a little bit difficult. But about a year and a half ago, they changed management and since then, it's been easier. Also, the companies that they used before were really bad. You wouldn't want them working on your stuff because they wouldn't answer calls. When HMS assigned me to a company, I wasn't able to talk to anybody and they wouldn't even report. And HMS wouldn't bother to see how they could help me or offer to change the company. Sometimes, I would even give up on a claim and just try to do the work myself if I needed it done.

But recently, within the past two years now, HMS drastically changed the companies that they use. They are more reliable now and they return calls. For one of my claims, they used Sears and they were very professional. I can see the difference, especially with that. And when filing claims, I get to speak with a representative who has an interest in helping me. They also go above and beyond to help me get the service I need. So the service is 95% better now.

We had attempted to reset the computer on it a few times and when that didn't work, we contacted the service group. Submitting the claim was simple. We were surprised that the rep said we would pay the $125 and that was it, which was great considering what the brand would have cost us.

They sent out Cooks and they did a wonderful job. They called us and let us know that the tech was coming because of what's going on with the virus. The tech came out, looked at it, and determined it would be the computer or the brain on the washer that went out. He told us when the part would be ordered and that it would be a little bit of a delay because of what was going on. They ordered one and when the part came in, it was a little bit earlier than they anticipated. Then, he got right out here and put it back on. It was up and running in no time at all.

The shower was leaking real bad and it kept getting worse. It was gonna require more stuff than we were able to do, so a plumber had to be involved. I called HMS and gave them the account number. The tech was out in a couple of days and it's been perfect since the repairs. I've been with HMS for three years now and I like it. I haven't had any problems.

I had HMS for 2 years now. I never had a problem with their services because there is nothing to fix. They have high deductible so if I can fix my garage or my dishwasher I do it first, so far, I fixed the simple issues I had in my house. I'm at the middle of reviewing my credit card bill. It's 04/15 and I noticed they charge me for March 31 for a quarterly amount. I remember, my plan should have expired end of March. They did not give me any notice through mail or email which they have done last year. HMS change its name to CINCH and that I received a notice but not on renewal of my plan. NO NOTICE and I did not give them consent.

The first lady I spoke with on phone dropped my call. The 2nd lady, Ms ** was very helpful. She said she will cancel it and ask the accounting to give me a refund of the 24.99 dollars that was charged on my credit card for 15 or 16 days since the plan was renewed. I appreciate her help. What I don't like is renewing my contract without my consent and no advance notice. Lisa said I gave a verbal consent last year to an agent which I don't remember and I never give consent on phone particularly for auto renew, and even if I did, like other insurances, they should provide advance notice!

I had a mortgage with Chase Bank and they had the little flips that they put inside your mortgage payment about it TotalProtect. I signed up and the warranty has been very useful. I like having it and it gives me a sense of security that if anything goes wrong, I can get somebody to fix it. I also like their contractors a lot and everybody has been very nice. All in all, I recommend my home warranty company and I love it. I'm very happy with it. They’ve been really good through the years but I'm not too happy with the amount of money that keeps increasing. It used to be $50 and right now, it's up to either $100 or $125 which is for the serviceman to come to your house. It didn’t increase for a while but in the last five years, it increased every year. We're seniors and we live on a fixed-income, so it's a lot for us.

The house was built in 1935, so we had no idea what might go wrong with it. We got a warranty from HMS due to the recommendation of our real estate agent at the time. We've been with HMS for nine years. As far as claims, it's always easy whether I do it online or I call. In fact, it’s even changed over the years where now, I get text message follow ups like, “Hey, did you get your appointment? Do you need help? or Is it complete?” In the early years, it was more of a phone call. Sometimes, I’d have to call back and say, “Hey, this company never came.” But HMS is very customer service-oriented that’s why we keep it. It’s a lot of money a month over the years if you don’t end up having any claims. In the end, we’ve had a few claims. So, HMS makes out some years, and we make out some years.

For the most part, the contractors are good. They’re quick to respond, and they do whatever’s needed. The only trouble is if you have an ongoing issue. It's like you get one electrician this month and a different one next month. So, you’re not really able to call the same one over and over again. Everything’s been super easy though. If I have a garbage disposal break in the morning, it’s generally fixed by the end of the day or within 24 hours by somebody. I only have to pay the deductible. I tell people that they should buy HMS.

The dryer broke and the contractor who came out sat and explained everything. He asked if I had any questions and he was phenomenal. Everything was perfect. We've never had an issue with HMS. The only one was with the air conditioning, but that problem ended up getting worked out with us by the tech.

I'm a single female and I'm not handy. Also, I need to save some money. When I make a purchase, I want to make sure it lasts so I got a home warranty and Cinch seems to provide what I need for a really reasonable price. Submitting a claim is easy. I just call in and tell them what the problem is. They arrange for me to call the contractor and they come usually within two days. It's always great with the claims reps. They're very friendly, professional, and expedient about getting things done. Also, the techs that have come out are pleasant. They arrive in a timely fashion when they said they're going to. They explain the things that they are doing and in no time, the work is complete. I tell everybody to get Cinch. It's so convenient. You rest easy knowing that someone is there if you call. And for a reasonable amount of money every month, they come and they fix stuff. The service fee is really reasonable too.

My Realtor and the mortgage broker recommended HMS Home Warranty. I've had coverage a little less than a year now and from my perspective, there's nothing that could reasonably be improved on. When I submitted a claim, it was exceptionally easy from the beginning to the end. I did it online and they had somebody out here to take care of it within two days. It was good.
