Submitting claims to HMS has been great. They're fast and things are easy. I've been pleasantly surprised with them. Thus far, all of my dealings with them have had to do with my air conditioning which I've had a lot of problems with. There have been two or three different companies that I've had dealings with through them and they've all been okay. This has been a bargain. I’ve spent about $1500 and I’ve received $8000 worth of stuff. I got Freon and service calls. When I finally replaced everything, HMS even helped pay for that. I have told several people that my HMS warranty is a great deal. I couldn't be happier with it.

I found TotalProtect back in early 2000 when I lived in Illinois. My parents had it when they got their house, they kept it. They told me and I had its home plan. When I moved to Texas and bought a house, I asked for a home warranty and specifically said that I wanted TotalProtect. Submitting claims had been easy, but something has changed. In the past, I would call in and the person would take my stuff over the phone. They would then get everything set up and somebody would come out.

Last time I called, it was automated. It was a pain in the **. The automation does not allow you in any way to get to a person. You gotta push this button and this button, but it does not give any direction so I could speak to a person. None of the options were what I was looking for. They should get a better automated phone system that allows me to zero out to, so I could speak to someone, or improvise better options.

When I was trying to figure out why my bill was delinquent, the system didn't say how I could get accounts receivable. I had to go through all the options. When I got someone, I said that I gotta get home and look at my record. I was told that when I called back, go to these options and push these options. It had nothing to do with my billing, and I would not have known, which was irritating. I’ve talked to other people who have the same type of service and they have been disappointed. But I have not been disappointed with TotalProtect. There was a service provider last year who worked on the wrong air condition. But that's not their fault. They just hired an idiot.

Submitting claims to Cinch is easy. I did that online and their website was user-friendly. They called me to tell me when to expect my contractor. However, I was a little disappointed with the first guy that came out as he ordered all the wrong parts for the microwave. The claim was two weeks longer than it should have been because of that. Cinch ended up replacing my microwave because they didn’t have the parts that it needed. So, that was a little bit frustrating. Still, their warranty is a good investment.

The people that came out for our AC did an outstanding job. They were courteous, they made sure they got the job done right. They kept me up to date on everything they were doing. I had one other time that I called out to have somebody come out and that was on a pipe repair. All they did was come out and saw a glass of water at a door and tell me that that's what was leaking when we knew it was the pipe. All they were concerned about was getting the deductible and leaving. I'm now having to replace mold and a bunch of other stuff that should have been repaired when they came out. They didn't even look at where the pipe was damaged. So I wasn't really happy with the first group that came out. I was considering canceling TotalProtect because of my first go-around with them. But this last one, they were very good and very professional.

We got Cinch Home Services when we bought our house back in 2011 and we continued to renew it every year after. We've used them numerous times since we've been in the house. It has been always been easy to use the system. Submitting claims with them has been pretty easy. I can either do it over the phone or I can do it online, but either way, it works pretty good. The response time has been good too. Although there have been a couple of lemons, the majority of the companies that we've worked with have been good. The contractors have always been responsive and timely with appointments

When I bought my house in 1999, one of the selling points was that it came with a home warranty, and then I kept it up-to-date the whole time. Submitting a claim to HMS seems to be okay. You can do it either through them or online, and both seem to be about equivalent as far as getting things done. I was surprised this last time during the pandemic that they were able to get someone out at 24 hours from when I called. The time when the guy came out to check the air conditioner, he had gloves and a mask. He checked inside and outside to make sure because we had an issue that it didn’t seem to kick on right. He was here within 24 hours, too. They called and set up the time frame he would be there. Then, they said he’d call like a half hour before the expected time and he did, and he was here.

Through the warranty, I have gotten new central air conditioning, new washer-dryer, parts repaired on the dishwasher, a new sump pump, and a brand-new stove and refrigerator. The stuff that was in the house when we moved in was brand-new. That was part of why we liked having the warranty, because going from living in an apartment to a house, we weren’t sure when all that stuff would need to be replaced, how long it would last -- we were renters before, so that was why we kept it up, and it seems to have paid off. in my mind. When you’re moving to a new area, you also don't know the services and the people to call. With them, we never had to worry about who to call to fix something, and because it is through HMS, the work is guaranteed. Also, you used to be able to pay more to get a smaller deductible, but they seem to be flattening that out more so that you don’t have quite as many options.

When my hot water heater went out, TotalProtect couldn’t provide a plumber in the local area, so they got one out of Jacksonville. The two people that came down were two kids out of high school and they didn’t know anything about plumbing, so they bungled it up a little bit. Then, TotalProtect tried to get a plumber out of Orlando and the guy in Orlando said that he was not gonna go all the way up there for that. It bothers me why there are times when TotalProtect has no one available in the Daytona Beach area to accomplish the task when there are plenty of plumbers and electricians all over the place.

And based on the policy, the procedure would be that they would notify of their issue on getting a tech out, then I had to go somewhere and get an estimate. Then they had to approve it, etcetera. In the meantime, my garage floors had water all over it because the thing was leaking and I didn’t have any hot water. This went on for a month or so and I told them that I was gonna go and get my hot water replaced because I couldn't live with that.

Then, I got a letter from the head of TotalProtect who said that they were really sorry about all of that. He also said that I could do whatever I had to do then I could send them the bill and they would take care of it. Unfortunately, I didn’t make a copy of that letter. But as a result of the request in that letter, I filed my claim and it came back denied. And for six months, I fought them about that letter but nobody knows where it is now. So, I just gulped up the loss and said to hell with them. I had to fight for a long time and I'd go to two dozen people in their company there. It was like reinventing the wheel every time and it was exasperating. Despite that, my wife wanted to keep the warranty, so that's what we do. But if it would have been me, I'd drop it in a minute. Other than that, there had been times when TotalProtect had been excellent. They responded immediately and the work was done properly.

I can either go online or call them. They then say they’ll send me a text to confirm the assignment, and then the company calls me to schedule something. Since I had a house, I’ve had to call for the heat, then I called for my AC. I just pay my $100 deductible and they worry about the rest. I don’t have to worry about buying parts and call friends to help me. The contractors have done a good job too.

I've had TotalProtect for several years now and I've had a lot of incidents and claims, and they all have good value. The only thing I would say is maybe they can minimize the deductible. This one claim that I had was for a hot water heater. They came out, they changed the hot water heater out and everything was great. I paid the $100 deductible. But then when they finished, they said I needed to pay extra additional money that I wasn't aware of. For some reason, the person who came out said that I had to pay them extra funding and TotalProtect said, "You work it out with them." But other than that, all the claims that I’ve had have been great, paid the deductible and they took care of everything, so I'm happy with it. That's why I stayed with TotalProtect for three years. With my recent claim regarding my washing machine, everything was timely. Within a few days, everything was resolved. I'm happy with it.

That was two claims over the course of when we’ve had the warranty, and we’ve had it for about two years. It would've been nice to be able to just quickly file a claim online. I don’t have a problem talking to people, but my husband hates being on the phone. So, if anything goes wrong and he needs to call, it might take a little bit longer. There should be a better way to do this thing online because there wasn’t a lot of information. Other than that, the contractors usually come a day after filing a claim. The technicians that have come to the house were very quick and efficient. We have the dryer drum replaced. Both the two different gentlemen that were here were in and out as faster than I expected them to, but everything was fixed as we would've expected it to be.

So far, I've had a good experience with HMS. Submitting claims has been very easy. They're very informative. They’ve educated me on how the policy works and what is covered and what is not. And I've already used it twice, and both times, everything has gone well. The first time, my outlets were not working, so I had no electricity throughout the house, and then it was a quick fix. So, they were able to take care of that and explained to me why it happened. And the second time, I was told that there was a leak in my air conditioning. They came out, and they explained that it wasn’t a leak, but they offered to come back by the end of May to take a look at it again. The contractors seemed nice and professional.

Each time I submitted a claim to HMS, the reps were just polite, nice, business-like. Overall, I like getting good customer service and people explaining things to me when I’m not sure how things work. So, both times both agents were good. However, the system isn’t being updated correctly. I kept calling and it was telling me that I owed money, but the seller was supposed to pay for it. And it took a long time for me to get through the call. The first agent told me, “It won't happen again. You’re covered,” finally, when I got through. But then the second time I called, the same thing still happened. So, it was a little bit of a pain. Because I had to go through a lot of prompts to try to get it to work, to allow the agent to pick my call.

Everything’s working out well with TotalProtect . Recently, I had a claim for the air conditioning and the contractor who came out was excellent. But when I had a water heater go out, the contractor was horrific. All I wanted was for my water heater to be replaced. I’ve installed three water heaters in my house and I’m in Home Depot all the time, so I know what they cost. He wanted to charge me almost $600 above and beyond what the warranty claim was going to allow to install my water heater. I just got rid of him and told him that I’d do it myself. I went out and bought a water heater, and installed it for $450 instead of almost 1,000. That’s not even including the deductible I had to pay, which was a nonrefundable $125.

I also called TotalProtect to tell them about what happened and that they should get rid of that contractor. He’s terrible. We got TotalProtect at my Dad’s house as well and they were great there. But when my Dad’s water heater went out, they sent out the same contractor because that’s who they were using. And he was horrible too. But my dad needed a water heater and he just wanted to pay the coverage.

Cinch's claims process is a little bit better. The service providers themselves are randomly selected and I’ve had some hit or miss experiences with some of them. But for the most part, people are pretty good. The biggest problem I’ve had, sometimes it’d be around the sense of urgency. Everybody’s claim is urgent, but I’ve had situations where we didn’t have air conditioning for four days in Houston. As long as people can get out, it’s fine. For the last few claims that I’ve had, it’s been reasonable in terms of the amount of turnaround time for them to come out. I’ve had a couple of AC situations that were a little bit ridiculous, but for the most part, it’s been a pretty good experience.

I had a toilet that was clogged and they came quickly. But when the guy came out and checked it, he said to Cinch that he couldn’t tell but there was probably something obstructing it, and that was that. They couldn’t fix that. I don’t know all the policies if there’s something obstructing but I had to pay somebody else to come out. Cinch came through for the last few times, but there’s always room for improvement. If it was that horrible, then I would just get another provider. But they handled the things that I needed to have handled.

Before, submitting a claim with HMS was like pulling teeth. When you would call, they'd put you through to all these people. That's the part that really was a challenge for me. But now, you speak to a person and it's like a one-stop-shop. You have this claims person to take the claim, give you a claim number, give you the contact person who will be contacting you regarding the follow-up, whether it's electrical, plumbing. I've been with HMS since 2003 and it seemed to have gotten better over the years.

The last time I spoke with the representatives, I had a question regarding reviewing my policy 'cause it's been so long, maybe adding something to it. Because the question, what prompt it was I wanted my air conditioner serviced, and he said I didn't have that in my policy. I'm like, "I don't?" He said, "No. You should look into that or do some research now at different companies that come out and service the air condition." But I was like, "I'd rather stick with my insurance." But he said I didn't have that.

The claims process has been simple, easy and not a hassle at all. The contractors have always come right away. Last time, there was some sort of delay but I think it was because of the pandemic. Cinch had sent someone out right away. The problem was just making the repair. They were trying to see what SystemsProtect was gonna do. It was taking a little while before they could order the part that they needed. But we also ended up having to spend more than the 125 dollars. I was not aware that was gonna be the situation. So that wasn’t really made clear from the beginning. But other than that, it was fine.

I love the online portal for submitting the claim. We receive the information for a company to call quite quickly, and that is very smooth. The challenge comes if you need to speak to someone. It's almost impossible. Also, some contracting companies are really, really good but some have tried to perpetrate fraud. When our garage door stopped opening, we filed a claim and the folks that came out said that we were responsible for damaging the garage door, which made no sense. Then, they said that all of the springs, brackets, rails, and the electric motor needed to be replaced and that none of those is covered by warranty. It would have cost us about $800 to fix it.

It didn’t sound right to me, so we ended up calling another company for a second opinion, not through HMS. They said the springs, brackets, and rails were fine and the only thing that needed to be replaced was the motor. The guy also said that there was nothing we did to damage the garage door and that the motor burned out due to the age of the door opener. They charged us a few hundred dollars. HMS refused to reimburse me for the cost that we had to pay out-of-pocket to fix what needed to be fixed and they said that our claim wasn’t valid. I had called back a few times to speak to someone and they said they would have a manager call me back and no one ever called me back.

The claims process is pretty easy. I can either go online or normally, I will call on the telephone and tell them what my issue is, then they’ll assign it to one of their repair people. Normally, within 24 hours, somebody’s calling me and coming in to do the work. The people that I’ve dealt with so far have been fine. They've been very professional. I'm happy with TotalProtect. It's not TotalProtect that I'm having issues with. It's the company that came out to my home. When my washer and dryer stopped working, I ended up calling TotalProtect and they went ahead and put in the order for a company to come out. That company was A&S Services and they sent this technician by the name of Mike, who was a very rude person.

The first time he came, I wasn't home but I was just down the street and when my son didn’t open the gate for him, he was only gonna give me 10 minutes to get here until I could give him the deductible. Straight out, he said he needed his deductible before he could start. I was being polite and I gave him the deductible. Then he checked my washer and dryer, and he said he was gonna order a part. He took pictures of it. I had to wait three weeks to get this washer and dryer going. I'm a foster parent with three autistic non-verbal kids. They pee in the bed. It was just terrible.

When the part got here, Mike came in and I opened the gate for him. Then he said he would walk behind me and close my gate. Then he said, “You work out?” I went, “Excuse me?” So I asked for his name and he couldn’t give it to me. I told him I had spoken to a Mike, the dispatcher and this guy said that was another Mike. He said he’s Mike too and he’s the other’s supervisor. He walked in and he was going to the garage that's attached to my house. I went into the house and a few minutes later, he knocked at my door and said there was a problem. He had the wrong part. I asked, “Don't you guys have extra parts at the warehouse? Don't they match the serial number to make sure that the parts that came in matches with what you guys order?" He said it wasn’t his job and that if I have a problem, to call his supervisor. He is such a jerk.

When I called the supervisor, I didn't get a hold of a supervisor. I got a hold of Mike. I asked if this guy was his supervisor and he said no and that he was just a technician. I told him I needed the guy out of my house, that he was being very rude and that I didn’t like the little comments that he was saying. He did not yell at me because he's very calm. But with the words that he said, he was just mean. When I went back to the technician, I told him, "You know, you lied to me." He said he didn’t and that he told me he was a technician supervisor. I said that he told me he was Mike’s supervisor and he said I just didn’t understand. I told him he needed to leave my house and ever since that happened, I've been having so many issues. I even had an issue with a girl named Alicia, their representative. She was very rude. It's frustrating.

I called the warranty company and told the rep I didn’t want that company here. I had gotten a call from somebody at that company and they told me that Mike was gonna come to my house because he was really pissed off. I don't know what he was gonna do. So I ended up calling the police and made a police report. I have my daughter, my son and my daughter-in-law here. I do not want him stopping by my house because now, he's accusing that I tried to seduce him.

TotalProtect told me that they were gonna go ahead and give me another company, which they did. But when I made an appointment with that company, the girl was being rude. I told her my call was an emergency and she said all calls are emergencies. The earliest she could get someone out here was gonna be Thursday and I said, “"You know what, that's fine. I've been without a washing machine for freaking three weeks, and a dryer."

After all that happened, I got a phone call from the first company again saying that Richard was supposed to come back to my house because I didn't want Mike here anymore. Then Richard said he wasn’t going out anymore and that he had told Mike. Mike said it was okay and that we had another company but he was gonna find out what company was gonna go here. I guess there's a program where they could see what company is gonna come out to my house. This is sad the way they work with things. This is sad how Mike wants to get somebody back. It's wrong. I don't want anything to do with that company whatsoever.

Then I got a call from the second company saying they had to cancel that Thursday appointment and make it for Friday. It was ridiculous. So then I started thinking when Mike found out what company was coming out to my home. I ended up canceling with the second company. I don't need this issue. I'm very disappointed. But it's not TotalProtect I'm having issues with. They have been very good to me. When my refrigerator broke, I called TotalProtect and they sent out a company that was very polite. The man that came in ordered a part and said that when the part comes in, he would be out here. He fixed my refrigerator and I didn’t have any issues. For this washer and dryer claim, I'm asking for my deductible back but TotalProtect said they couldn't give it back to me. It would be up to the company that came out to my home. When I asked the company, they wouldn't give it to me.

But sometimes you have to wait too long before a provider could come and fix the problem. Before, I had my hot water tank go out on a Friday, so it was gonna be three days before somebody even came. I'm from the old school. They want everybody go online but I like to talk to somebody. Everything wants you to go on a computer and do all it is there. But if we do all of that, what about their job? Not only just them, but everybody. One guy came and he said he didn’t have the machine, so we had to wait another week. I was disappointed because it took him so long to fix my sink. It took him a week and a half to get here. And then when he got here, some other person had to come who didn’t have the machine and all this stuff. So, we had to wait another week for the guy to come. It was over two weeks. I told the company that the second man they sent did fix it but it was just a shame that we had to wait over two weeks to just get the sink fixed. I told them that I was upset with it because with all the hand washing, we had to wash our clothes in the bathtub.

You get frustrated when stuff breaks down. You don’t want anything to happen. It wasn’t a big problem. It wasn’t like the water was backing up. It was just something there that water went down real slow. The first guy went in there and got something out of there, but he said, “The water’s still going down real slow and I'm going to go back to the office,” and they needed the machine. They came the second time, then the guy said, “Well, how come he just didn’t get the machine and do it?” I said, “I don’t know.” Somebody else had to come in and were were inconvenienced. But it’s fixed now and I'm so glad.

Submitting a claim with HMS Home Warranty phone-wise was not a problem before ‘cause they had a live body. Now, it’s extremely difficult. The phone prompts don’t have recall situations. The initial appointment is good but when the service company comes and they don’t fix the problem, you don’t have anything on the prompts that say if it is the first call or if it is a recall for services already rendered. It’s very confusing. Now, I’m dealing with one service call and the machine has opened up three service requests. I wait until I get a live body on the phone and try to resolve it with them.

Their reps are pretty good. But the service company is a different story. I’m having a problem with Sears. I paid my deductible to Sears and then they cashed my check the day after. They came for a recall two days after they came. The machine didn’t work so they came back. Now they sent me a bill for $100 that I needed to pay them again. I told them that they got me messed up because they didn't fix the problem and it was the same call. I'm not paying them $100.

HMS Home Warranty is a great company. I’m not happy about the increase in the service call but it’s a good service. I recommend it to all my friends. You don’t have to have a new house in order to have coverage. That’s a misconception with homeowners, that once the warranty wears out or expires, you can’t warranty your house again. I’ve been happy with the many years of service from HMS.

A few years ago, they fixed the heat thing in my dryer. I keep track of my maintenance to keep everything in decent shape. If I get a major issue, I'm pretty much covered. My last claim cost me extra because of the part they had to get. Cinch got the cost split between them and me ‘cause that was my second issue within a few months. Still, claims typically only cost me $125.

Another warranty provider whom I've talked to told me that other places outside my house are not covered under their warranty. With Cinch, if water leaks outside my house, I'm covered. The first time that happened, I wasn't covered and my cost was over $1,000. The next time, I was covered and I only paid $125. It's the same with my septic tank. If something happens to that, then it's covered.

The last contractor I had through Cinch took a plunger, hit the drain twice and things went straight through. That cost me $100. Had I known it wasn’t the garbage disposal itself, I could’ve spent $2.85 and bought the plunger myself. I wouldn’t mind paying $50 just for him to come out and do that. But for $100 for him to come out and do two plunges is a little stiff. Also, Cinch should look into their contractor's credentials and their reviews. That would entice the consumers to feel comfortable. Some of their contractors are good and some aren’t worth the filth. Still, I've had Cinch for 15-plus years now and whenever I utilized them, I’ve gotten good service so far.

When I have a claim, I call Cinch and report it, then they get back with me usually within a hour, depending on the weekend or what’s up. Then they say they had sent out a technician to handle it, and within the 24 hours, they contact me. Sometimes I get a call on time, and sometimes they take days before I get a call. But these past two claims that were filed, it took time because of what was going on and the holiday weekend. Also, one time, they sent the wrong part so they had to get the right part. But other than that, everything worked out good.

I got two houses under HMS right now and it's been over four years. I searched on the internet and after doing my analysis, I went with them for the reliability and the price. I rely on them to vet the contractors for me since they don't work for me and I don't know them. I have submitted two claims and the first claim that I did was very difficult. I was talking to too many departments and nobody knew anything, so it was really confusing. The second time I did it though, it was perfect. I was in contact with just one section and they took care of everything. So far, the two things that I've had completed has been good and I didn't have to do it over.

Sears' customer service is very thorough. I have the 72.99 monthly home protection which covers everything. I have the actual plan where the technicians come, they check the air conditioner and make sure it’s running fine. The gentleman came out and he checked it. I even went out. I spoke to him. I had questions to ask him. He was very knowledgeable and professional. The same with the plumbing people from Aqua. They’re terrific. They’re from Tampa, they know what they were doing, and they were spot-on. Anything that they did here was to perfection and they work very hard. They have a contract with Sears but they know how they resolve the issues, like a leaking toilet and the water softener.

One time I was getting ready to call them because there was some plumbing that burst on the front lawn. Luckily, it was not mine. It was the county’s issue because it was on the county side of the meter, and the dial on water meter was not even spinning. So, I called Aqua. You have to call to verify that they’re coming out. I spoke to the manager, Constantine, and he said, “Steve, is the meter spinning?” I said, “No, it’s not. It’s to the left of the meter.” He has been here so he knows the house and the meter. He said, “That’s not your problem. That’s not your responsibility. Don’t worry about it. That is something the county needs to come and maintain and repair,” which they did.

Of course, I wasn’t billed water because the water wasn’t even going through the meter. It was amazing. It was like a miraculous fountain of youth. Because I'm in Florida, you worry about standing water and especially that much water because we don’t want sinkholes. It’s frightening, but when the county came out, they said, “No.” I said, “Do you think that it was a deposit, sinkhole problem?” They said, “Oh, no.” I'm very happy with Constantine and the group.

Sears is always cooperative. At first, I was afraid because the Sears near me at mall closed I guess with the economy and this was before the Coronavirus. We lost a lot of Sears. We grew up with Sears. I'm 65 years old. It was Sears, Roebuck and Co. Tremendous. Like the May company, Bigby’s and Macy’s. We grew up with those stores. And I always loved going to Sears. Their warranty is terrific. I hope it does not go out of business. I'm very happy with the Sears Home Warranty. I love it. I love the people that come out. They're great people. We love them. We love the service. They’re honest. I've never had to call them back and say, “I wasn’t happy with this or that.” They know exactly how to diagnose that it’s incredible. So, I'm really happy and I would recommend them. I give them kudos. I wouldn’t be without them, as long as I can afford it.

HMS has been very responsive but I'm not very impressed with the vendors they employ for the job. We've been dealing with a heating situation that I have in my house for the past six months and they continuously send the same vendor. I finally told them that I didn't want this guy in my house anymore. Then the one that they are sending now is much more knowledgeable but the issue has not been resolved yet. I have a very sophisticated system and not everybody can work on it. They should verify the knowledge base of the people they employ for those kinds of calls to make sure that their customers are getting what they are paying.

HMS Warranty customer service reps are extremely nice and they are very responsive. When I told them something that I didn't like about that person that kept on coming and not knowing how to fix my system, they immediately reacted and they immediately took care of the situation. They constantly follow-up and make sure that I'm satisfied.

Submitting the claim to Cinch went pretty smoothly. However, when I had already gotten ahold of the subcontractor, they were still sending me stuff saying, “If you still need help getting a hold of the contractor, let us know.” It didn’t bother me ‘cause it didn’t slow anything down, but they just kept reaching out even if he had already been to the house and had isolated the problem and then ordered a new unit. It’s the first AC unit I’ve ever bought. And it’s considerably less amount using the warranty service than it normally would have been if I didn’t go with Cinch. That part was good.

I tell the person what my problem is and they say they would put the problem in. It usually happens that day. But I give people the benefit of the doubt and say, “Okay, they call me the next day.” But they say no, that the people would call me that day. In fact, I get a call in the next 15 minutes. I had a plumbing problem once and they called me in less than 15 minutes. They said they were gonna come out in two days and that wasn’t a problem.

TotalProtect also replaced my washer, which was a good thing. The only thing I didn’t like about that was that they dealt with a third-party and I didn't care how they dealt with it. The third-party kept saying they lost it on the dock and I had to do the research. I got frustrated with that. I had to have someone do the calling for me because the anger was kicking in and when anger kicks in, you don’t give power to anger. Someone had to call for me because the words weren’t going off right. They finally got the situation handled and my washer finally got there. It took two weeks but when the washer got there, the appointment got solved in two days.

Their claims process is really simple. I just call them, and they’ll tell me to call this repair service company, then I make the call and set up the appointment. The contractors who came out have all done good work, too. They came for the dishwasher once and my experience had been good.

But I had a brand new washing machine and when it was less than a year old, I began having problems with it. I had it repaired about three times and I wondered why HMS kept putting money on it. While I pay the cost and there are probably hundreds of thousands of other people that hold the warranty, it was 125 when the contractors came out. And when they came out, they put a $300 part in the washer. Then, they came out again and put another $500 part in the washer. And one of the guys who came out was saying that the parts that they were putting in were costing more than the the price of buying a new washer.

The claims process is smooth and it always gets fulfilled with a 100% fulfillment ratio. Submitting a claim is easy. HMS finding a contractor is pretty straightforward. The contractor showing up, doing the assessment, and trying to repair has been awesome. The step after that where the contractor proposes a recommendation, whether it’s a repair or a replacement, that’s where it gets stuck. Somehow, either the part or the product itself is in backorder and nobody takes care of that unless you follow up, chase, escalate, and then the things move a little bit in a brisk manner. After that, the disbursement of the payment or the product itself, the person coming in and fixing is smooth.

It is the only intermediate part when the normal process doesn’t allow all of the parties, especially HMS, to make things flow smoothly. That’s where I step in, make calls, sometimes may get the service provider and HMS on the same page and get them on a conference call. I have to arrange that but I shouldn’t be doing that. I do that because I want things to progress faster. If I would not take any initiative, it would just be lying over there for weeks and then months. I have made several claims since last year but overall, I’m pretty happy with HMS.

We’ve had a few issues with some things going on, but overall they have handled the claims very well. They typically send Sears, and they have not been able to resolve the problems. The last issue was with our washing machine, and Sears didn’t fix it.

The problem continued, but after a couple of calls, we finally got Cinch to reopen the claim. When I told them I would not deal with Sears anymore, they got us the phone number and we had to call Mr. Appliance to get the service set up. Mr. Appliance came out and they were very professional. There was one contractor that I did not like because the tech took forever and he was the one that was assigned to me a lot. That was last year. The last time he came over, I got very aggravated with him because of the excuses, like it was my fault. I was very aggravated with the one that I tried to get over during the Christmas break because he didn’t want to come out because it was a Christmas break. And he said, “We decided to stop carrying TotalProtect.” So, I had to go through an approval process with TotalProtect to pay him out of pocket and then get reimbursed by TotalProtect. This was an air conditioning guy, because we had no heat. We lost our heat over Christmas. We had no heat for one night.

Finally, someone at TotalProtect got the approval because the next person on the list was upfront and said they won’t come until Monday. That was a Friday. And I said, “Look. I can't go all weekend with no heat.” “Oh, sure, you can.” And I said, “Are you kidding me? Really? Have you lived without heat in the middle of December for a whole weekend?”

The contractors need to understand if they are on TotalProtect's list that when people call, they just need to be honest and upfront if they can take a job or not, and not commit to a job and then make excuses. I had no heat at 7 o’clock at night, the guy agreed to come out here but then decided five minutes later to walk out to try to talk to his boss, “Oh, no, we decided we can’t do this,” because he just didn’t want to come out here. I know it was bad timing, but they should be used to that because that’s what they’re in business for and things like losing heat never times perfectly for anybody, especially in the middle of the night. Contractors need to understand when they contract business with you, they have got to fulfill it.

TotalProtect really needs to get contractors here in my area. That has been the problem because they don’t have any in Newton-Conover, so they call these people from the Charlotte area. They’re in Charlotte or Statesville, so they have to travel. It’s an irritation because it’s not a local job for them. I never had a local contractor but there are plenty around here. But other than that, the ones that recently have been coming whenever I had a problem have been fine. It is going pretty good.

My refrigerator wasn't cooling one time. Submitting a claim to HMS for it was easy. However, I had to send a request to them a second time because the issue wasn't fixed. Also, their automated system doesn't allow me to specify that my request is for the same issue. So, it took me a really long time to get a hold of a person who would remove the $100 deductible for the second visit. That was extremely frustrating. Still, the tech who came was great and now everything is working.

But for what you pay when they come out when you think about it, they have to replace it. You can’t buy an appliance for that. They don’t have Sears anymore, so they have other people and they have gotten better. My dryer was making a noise. It didn’t take the technician long to fix it. He showed me what the problem was and went right to it, and boom, in 20 minutes he was out of here. He said their main office is in Delaware and I thought, “Wow. Better than some local people." I had a claim for the hot water heater and the people that Cinch Home sent out said that they had to repipe this and this. I told them that they didn't have to do that. Instead, I told them to bring me the hot water heater and put it there. But they said they couldn't do that. I called Cinch Home back and told them that the morons they sent out here were no good. They told me to just send them the bill, but when I did, they said that the company I hired were not on their contracting list.

Then, my furnace went out. At the time, it was 22 below 0 in Chicago and there was no way I could wait for Cinch Home to send the serviceman out to do it. It was gonna freeze up the water pipes then I'd have more of a mess to do, and only my appliances would go. I had to have the furnace done right then and there, and I told them about it. But they said they were sorry and that they didn't care about that. Cinch Home need to improve on their people. They’re in Florida and whoever I dealt with didn’t know what was going on in the whole underground. Nothing freezes in Florida and you can go without heat there. But you can’t go without heat here in Chicago in the winter.

They also told me to send them a bill but even when I did, they did nothing. And I was disappointed with them. Compared to that, the guy I called came out and checked the furnace in two hours. Then, it was back up and running, but it was no good. He said it was an old furnace and suggested that I replace it. I asked how long it was gonna take and he said that he could be here the next day and change it in one day. I agreed and it only took him a day to come out. He came out in the middle of the night and put the new furnace in.

Other than that, Cinch Home took care of my air conditioning unit at one time and that took them four weeks to do, which was no big deal because it was summer time and it was warm. But at another time, my air conditioning was blowing warm air and the serviceman was sent out three days later. He said that they had to charge it with Freon. I agreed and when he did, it cost me $65 at the time instead of a 125. After he charged it up, it was working. But it started getting warm again, so I called them up and told them about it.

The guy came out and said that there was a hole somewhere in there. He said they'd have to replace this and this. But I told him to call the home warranty company and explain to them what he had to do. He then said that for him to to take things out, I had to pay 400. I told him to get the approval for the repairs from Cinch Home and I would remove the unit myself. But then, he said I needed other things. Also, one time, the tech who came out said that he needed to replace a 220 60 amp breaker. But that was put in when they installed the appliance. I told him that that thing was perfect and to just replace the parts that he was supposed to.

All in all, I have Cinch Home for a long time and and they're good. So far, they've taken care of the minor stuff such as stoves, refrigerators, dishwashers, washers and recently, they sent out a tech who cleaned my dryer. But the people they sent out to do the major repairs would add stuff on thinking that I was a dummy. Cinch Home has to get better contractors and they have to set something else up, especially in the Corn Belt up in here in the north. They gotta find people that can be out here quickly.

Any time I’ve had a problem, Cinch has come out and they’ve done whatever they had to do. Submitting claims is very easy. I call them up and tell them what’s going on. They then put the claim through to whoever they’re sending out and within a day or so, the person is here and the issue gets resolved. The last claim I had was for my refrigerator, but I wasn’t too satisfied. But I can’t complain because they gave me some resolution to it. A lot of my complaints were with washing machines. They usually send out A&E and I haven’t had a problem with any of the service people that Cinch has sent out.

10 years ago, when I had bought my house, Cinch was the first one that came to me. I’m a creature of habit and don’t adapt to change too well, which was why I've stayed with them. I know everything goes up in price, but they had a big jump in price on their copay. It used to be 75, now, it’s 125. Other than that, I’ve been very satisfied with everything so far.

When we bought the house, the previous owners had already purchased HMS and we kept it. They've been really good at claims. I've had a couple of bad contractors but the warranty has been pretty straightforward. They've covered everything we've asked them to and never had a kickback. We have used them quite a bit, given the house is not in the best state when we picked it up. There was an issue with the furnace outright where it had a control board that went out. Then there was another time when there was a hose that siphons the water off and it ended up breaching a leak and started pouring into the bathroom upstairs. Both times, we had our deductible but they fixed them without any issue.

We had less success with some of the appliances though. We've had a couple people come out and look at appliances. Every time, the contractors were just awful. They did require one of the groups to refund us our deductible and they took care of us there but we never got that stuff fixed because they only had the one contractor set up.

Another issue is that they pick the contractors and I don't get to pick. If we had a bad experience with one, I'd like to be able to pick a different one. It would be nice if we had at least some way to read ratings about them and if it doesn't strike us as what we want in our house, then it would be nice to change that. Plus, the deductible is high. For a warranty that's meant to cover mostly small jobs, we've had at least a couple of jobs where our deductible actually covered the work or was more than the work would have cost if we did it ourselves. That and the ability to choose our own contractors take it from being absolutely masterful. But other than that, they're been pretty good.

Getting a home warranty saves money. When you need something repaired, you don't need to pay a full price. I got one from Cinch Home and my experience with them has been decent. But they have so many different customer service people from different parts of the country and they tell you different things. One time when I submitted a claim, I first thought that it was disapproved then later on, somebody called me back that it wasn't. And it shouldn't have been that way.

I’ve had this situation at least twice. One for the doorbell not being electrical, and another time with my toilet. They charged me everything for the stuff on fixing my toilet. So, Cinch Home has too many different people but they don't have uniform information. As for their contractors, it seems like they have a lot of struggling contractors. Some of them are not very competent and the people that they send out sometimes don't know what they're doing. But when that happened to me, I called back and Cinch Home sent me another company.

I didn't have a problem with him. It worked out pretty good. The replacement was for a washing machine and it could be a little bit quieter than what it is, that would be the only thing that we really didn't like. But other than that, we were satisfied with it. Having a home warranty is very important. When something goes wrong, you don't have to worry about that big cost. Like, this washing machine, it was about $700. I got another part replaced and it was close to $1,000 on my heating unit. So, even though I had to put up the deductible, it's a lot better than having to put out the total cost of it.

HMS has been doing a good job. Filing a claim with them used to be a little bit difficult. But about a year and a half ago, they changed management and since then, it's been easier. Also, the companies that they used before were really bad. You wouldn't want them working on your stuff because they wouldn't answer calls. When HMS assigned me to a company, I wasn't able to talk to anybody and they wouldn't even report. And HMS wouldn't bother to see how they could help me or offer to change the company. Sometimes, I would even give up on a claim and just try to do the work myself if I needed it done.

But recently, within the past two years now, HMS drastically changed the companies that they use. They are more reliable now and they return calls. For one of my claims, they used Sears and they were very professional. I can see the difference, especially with that. And when filing claims, I get to speak with a representative who has an interest in helping me. They also go above and beyond to help me get the service I need. So the service is 95% better now.

We had attempted to reset the computer on it a few times and when that didn't work, we contacted the service group. Submitting the claim was simple. We were surprised that the rep said we would pay the $125 and that was it, which was great considering what the brand would have cost us.

They sent out Cooks and they did a wonderful job. They called us and let us know that the tech was coming because of what's going on with the virus. The tech came out, looked at it, and determined it would be the computer or the brain on the washer that went out. He told us when the part would be ordered and that it would be a little bit of a delay because of what was going on. They ordered one and when the part came in, it was a little bit earlier than they anticipated. Then, he got right out here and put it back on. It was up and running in no time at all.

The house was built in 1935, so we had no idea what might go wrong with it. We got a warranty from HMS due to the recommendation of our real estate agent at the time. We've been with HMS for nine years. As far as claims, it's always easy whether I do it online or I call. In fact, it’s even changed over the years where now, I get text message follow ups like, “Hey, did you get your appointment? Do you need help? or Is it complete?” In the early years, it was more of a phone call. Sometimes, I’d have to call back and say, “Hey, this company never came.” But HMS is very customer service-oriented that’s why we keep it. It’s a lot of money a month over the years if you don’t end up having any claims. In the end, we’ve had a few claims. So, HMS makes out some years, and we make out some years.

For the most part, the contractors are good. They’re quick to respond, and they do whatever’s needed. The only trouble is if you have an ongoing issue. It's like you get one electrician this month and a different one next month. So, you’re not really able to call the same one over and over again. Everything’s been super easy though. If I have a garbage disposal break in the morning, it’s generally fixed by the end of the day or within 24 hours by somebody. I only have to pay the deductible. I tell people that they should buy HMS.

I had a mortgage with Chase Bank and they had the little flips that they put inside your mortgage payment about it TotalProtect. I signed up and the warranty has been very useful. I like having it and it gives me a sense of security that if anything goes wrong, I can get somebody to fix it. I also like their contractors a lot and everybody has been very nice. All in all, I recommend my home warranty company and I love it. I'm very happy with it. They’ve been really good through the years but I'm not too happy with the amount of money that keeps increasing. It used to be $50 and right now, it's up to either $100 or $125 which is for the serviceman to come to your house. It didn’t increase for a while but in the last five years, it increased every year. We're seniors and we live on a fixed-income, so it's a lot for us.

I'm a single female and I'm not handy. Also, I need to save some money. When I make a purchase, I want to make sure it lasts so I got a home warranty and Cinch seems to provide what I need for a really reasonable price. Submitting a claim is easy. I just call in and tell them what the problem is. They arrange for me to call the contractor and they come usually within two days. It's always great with the claims reps. They're very friendly, professional, and expedient about getting things done. Also, the techs that have come out are pleasant. They arrive in a timely fashion when they said they're going to. They explain the things that they are doing and in no time, the work is complete. I tell everybody to get Cinch. It's so convenient. You rest easy knowing that someone is there if you call. And for a reasonable amount of money every month, they come and they fix stuff. The service fee is really reasonable too.

And the first time I made a claim this spring, when I tried to go online, it said the account did not exist. Then, I had to call twice and when I finally got a hold of somebody, the rep was not understandable. But the second time I made a claim was okay. The contractors who came out have all been good, too. They were able to work within our schedule ‘cause we generally would be working away from home until late in the afternoon. So, they came out in the early evening and took a look at everything. They diagnosed it and then ordered the part. They told me it’d take a couple of weeks, but they called me within three days. They had the part, came back out on a Saturday afternoon, fixed it for us and got it up and running. They did a good job. They were professional, cordial and very attentive to doing their work. When they walked in the house, they took off their shoes and walked in the house with socked feet. I told them they didn't need to do that for us, but that was just what they do. They were all business about getting things taken care of.

Cinch is kinda interesting because we have another house and we use their home warranty. They have a different philosophy. Their monthly rate is higher but the service call is cheaper. Here, the monthly rate is low and the service call is more expensive, it's twice as much. But I can see both sides to it, okay, because people who use more often will end up paying more, which is perhaps correct. That way, if you're not using it, you just pay the premiums and when you use it, you pay a higher service charge, which I think is okay.

Having a home warranty is peace of mind. But it is not going to pay 100% everything and it has its own limitations. You just work with it and it's okay. It saves money in the end. We had a refrigerator claim and the technician was competent but the remedy they did didn't work. I couldn't get in touch with them because of this coronavirus situation. I don't want anybody getting in the house until this thing subsides. But the service provider was very prompt and efficient. Perhaps they misdiagnosed. The refrigerator still has the same problem.

My hot water tank didn't work and it was leaking. I called HMS because it was an emergency. It was like midnight when I noticed. I was going to bed and I saw water all over the floor down the hallway. There was water everywhere. A young man came the first time and I was told I needed a new tank because the one I had couldn't be repaired. The second team that came out was like two brothers, young and old, and they were fine. They had to wait for something to dry up because then the door wouldn't close. They didn't have some parts that they needed to complete the job and they had to come out the day or two after. HMS gave me a new tank but I was charged $200 which I thought was a bit much.

In the beginning, I was told it was $100 for the contractor to come out and do the job. But in the end, the tech asked for another $100. They said something about the pan underneath being warped and the tech wanted to tear up the whole floor. It was rusted and he said it had holes in it. He said he couldn't use it. Under the tank was a piece of linoleum and under that was wood floors. I have wood floors throughout the house. The tech ripped out the linoleum but he didn't replace the wood. I asked him to put the linoleum back down. He said to leave the door open and let it the air out because he could smell mold when he walked in.

But all of that, like the hot water tank and the pieces and parts that go to it to put it back together again, this was a one-time shot. I trusted HMS but after I talked to my son about it, he told me that I should not have paid the extra $100. That probably went into their pockets. I felt like HMS owed me that $100 and I need to be refunded that money.

I love TotalProtect. I got a reference from a friend of mine who has real estate properties and he’s told me how good they were and some of his experiences. I based my decision on him because he’s a credible person. He said he had a couple of instances where he had a couple of water heaters went out on his properties and they came right out. They paid whatever deductible it was. It could’ve been no deductible. And he’d done it, didn't cost him much of anything. And that’s a great deal if they’re gonna really do that every time. So, I said I’d give them a try for six months to a year ‘cause I have a home.

I put everything under the plan, my air conditioners and my appliances. And lo and behold, an issue came up with one of my appliances. My garbage disposal went out a couple of months back before this whole Coronavirus thing. I forgot I had this plan covering the garbage disposal, so I was trying to buy my own disposal, have a plumber put it in. And all the plumbers were giving me crazy prices, “We’ll come out for $300 and install it. Plus, you have to buy the unit, which is another $100.”

My wife said, “We got this plan. I think it’s covered under the plan. Let’s at least see if it works.” We called TotalProtect. And they said, “You’re covered. What date is available?” And they put us in contact with their plumbers. The plumbers came out, installed the unit in about 30 minutes, we paid our deductible, which was about $125 and the rest is history. That was really a great deal ‘cause we could’ve been out of at least $500, but it cost us $125. So, at this point, I have nothing but good things to say about TotalProtect. The only thing, I wish I got a lower deductible, but other than that, it’s working fine so far.

When our dishwasher was not draining, it turned out that there was something stuck in the lines and I couldn’t reach it. The person that came out four weeks ago found it and he was able to run a piece of plastic tubing in it and poke it out. It happened again recently, so I don’t know if there’s something going wrong with our dishwasher. We thought about having the contractor back out, but I just purchased a drain probe. I figured it would be quicker for me to take care of it over the weekend than to wait for them to come back out. We've had HMS Home Warranty since we purchased our house almost two years ago and they've done a good job on their end. The callback time and response from any contractors they provide may take a couple of days though. It also takes a couple of days for them to schedule an appointment. We’ve had two heat pump systems replaced and we have had failures with certain appliances. When our washing machine went off, what HMS wanted to give as a replacement did not work in our space. So, we opted to take the cash buyout and then we applied that to what we bought. The last one was our refrigerator and we were super pleased with the actual replacement fridge that they gave us. It was almost exactly what we had but it was the newer model. We’re really happy. The process was pretty smooth and it happened right before the whole corona-thing. So, I’m really glad that this got done, installed and worked.

The guy who assessed the damage was from Sears. My husband was home when he came and he said that he was very knowledgeable and professional. We’ve always had good luck with Sears technicians. The problem comes when HMS send the local Yahoo companies where there’s no consistency. Some of the people who have come here in the past, I have not felt that they were as knowledgeable as they could have been. But I’ve been super happy with Sears 'cause I know that they know their products and their technicians are very professional and knowledgeable.

The delivery people weren’t Sears-related, but they were fine. There were two of them and they handled everything very well. Unfortunately, we had to pay $75 for a junk hauler to come in and take it. We were told upfront about it. That’s extremely frustrating that when you accept a new item from HMS, they do not cover the haul away. We found a junk hauler who actually is 10 minutes from our house, and they came out within two days and took it. But it worked out well because we were able to clean the area behind the fridge. We’ve been renewing with HMS for 13 years.

Everything with Cinch has been okay. I had problems at the beginning. Sometimes it all depends who answers the phone when I wanna make a claim. Usually, when somebody smart answers the phone, everything goes well. But quite few times, I had a problem. That’s the hardest part for them to realize what state I’m in or what county I live in. They were giving me service two hours away, which is unacceptable. Nobody wants to come and fix anything by driving two hours. But after that, once I get in touch with service, they’re very great to work with and very flexible. Sometimes it takes a few days, but I understand they’re busy too. Otherwise, I’m happy.

My most recent claim was I had some problems with electricity. I lost power in quite few outlets, which was very weird. But the contractor came in. He knew exactly what he’s doing and it took him half an hour and he was done. So, that made me really happy. I also had a refrigerator problem twice and they came in. The same company came in and fixed it. It was the fan in the back of the refrigerator. I was with this company for a couple of years. My furnace died. So, they gave me a brand new furnace. Atnd he furnace works great. It saves me big money. And that was my first good experience that I was really happy with.

Over the last couple of months, we've had incidents and a couple of them were handled really well. One claim was a dryer and the other one was our furnace. I was a little less than satisfied with the furnace claim but the other one was smooth as could be. I've been very satisfied with the contractors but my problem has been more with the company.

I got the runaround with the initial setting up of the appointment. When I was calling, they told me they had to figure something out and then they would hang up. It happened several times to the point where it just went on and on. I asked every single person I spoke with if I could speak to a supervisor but they said there was no one available and that they would call me back within 48 hours. 48 hours of no water and no heat.

Eventually, the only way we got it going was to contact the plumber myself and he eventually came out. It was a weekend and HMS told me that the contractor won't come out on a weekend. When I called the plumber directly, he came at 11 o'clock on a Saturday night. He told me that HMS never asked him and the reason was that they didn't wanna pay him overtime. They were saying the soonest they can get him here is on Tuesday. I was not happy about that. Also, it happened in February and having no heat and no water is crucial in February. I also kept saying I had water spitting out into my basement and it was flooding. The plumber told me it was a medical emergency. As soon as I said that and that we have young kids who can't go without heat, that was when things turned around and the contractors were here.

My understanding was there was a process for that and I didn't feel it was really implemented. There were a couple of times where it wasn't a misunderstanding and it was flat out dishonesty. Also, the contractor told me that it was covered but he was not getting a response from the company. I had him install the unit and the next thing I know, I was charged. At that point, he's stuck for the thing so I wound up paying it.

Having a warranty is important but it's important to have one that works. I don't need insurance coverage that's gonna cover me if all the stars align. I needed something that if my furnace goes, I'm covered. It almost would give me a false sense of security to have it and not have it work properly. Of my two interactions with HMS, the plumbing was meaningless but the dryer was awesome. But I'm hoping that it was a one-time thing.

Now, the second time around, I had no problem with anybody. The dryer was like boom boom boom and in 24 hours, the whole thing was over and it was fixed. We've had great people come out for both claims. In fact, I made a relationship with the plumber and I would have him out even if it's something that's not covered or it's something I was having installed. He was awesome and he came out in the middle of the night. I would certainly contact him again.

A gentleman came out for an icemaker that didn’t work and he checked out what the problem was. Then he went and ordered the part. He brought it back out about a week later and put it in and it worked fine. I have a little bit of a problem as far as I think maybe it’s producing too many ice cubes now. I debated whether to call the tech back out and do some adjustment but I think I’ve got it figured out. So I’m happy with it. The gentleman even called back up and checked on us. He wanted to know how things were going.

I’ve had this service for about eight years now and it’s working out fine. I’ve used it quite a bit and I recommend it highly. If you’re buying a house, you know that somebody had lived in it for a while and you can’t know about the appliances. Generally, the people we’ve had come out through Cinch have been very nice and prompt. A time or two, we had Sears but a lot of them were smaller guys that I have never heard of. Nonetheless, they were all very good and professional. I had no problem with any of them.

Our house was built in 1958 and we've been here for over 30 years. Our appliances are getting up in age. I did some research and went with TotalProtect. Instead of having a direct person when you wanna file a claim on the phone, you have to go through so many different press one, press this, and hit that. You gotta go through all kinds of different things just to speak to a person. They also ask, "Is this for a new claim? Is this is a recent claim? Are you following up on a claim?" That kinda annoys me. They should have a special number and if you wanna file a new claim, that will be the number and you don't have to go through all the different things on your phone. Recently, our dishwasher went and they gave me more to replace the dishwasher than what I paid for the warranty for a year.

My garbage disposal wasn't working. Submitting a claim was very easy but it took about four days for someone to come out. It wasn't quick. The first gentleman that came out determined that it was an electrical problem. There were some wires that were loose with the electrical outlet. He wasn’t an electrical contractor so the electrical contractor had to come out. It took about two days for the electrical contractor to come out and it was resolved in 10 minutes.

I recommended HMS to my brother. He went through HMS but they informed him that they were acquired by another company and his contract came through this other company. My brother had an issue with their refrigerator and he was very unhappy with the service. He’s gonna cancel his contract because he’s getting nowhere to get his refrigerator handled. But as long as I’m dealing with HMS, I'm fine. I still go on to the HMS website to handle the garbage disposal claim.

I started submitting claims with HMS on the furnace in the late fall. It was easy to submit a claim with them but it was a long process to get the contractors to come out. And when they did, they fixed it a whole bunch of times before AHS agreed to replace it. So, it took a really long time to get the problem resolved. But most of the contractors who came out were pretty cooperative.

All in all, HMS drives me crazy. I’m with them now and I’m gonna stay with them, but I would not stay with them if I have another option. I also had a hot water tank situation with them and it was the worst. When somebody was trying to fix it, they said that I needed a new hot water tank. But then, it was six months when I got a new hot water tank. The warranty company was not getting along with the contractor and the contractors would quit. Then, the warranty company got the part in, but they lost it. And it took me 10 phone calls just to find that out, then they finally gave up and decided to just give me a check. On top of that, I had to go out, find somebody to come in and replace it, and I had to pay a lot more for it.

I have been with HMS since 2011, & prior to that recommended them as a real estate agent. Today, I called about refunding unauthorized charges to my account. I asked for a supervisor because I wanted more information about what was going on with my account than an associate had access to, and the associate left me on hold for about 30 minutes of the total call. When I was finally transferred to a supervisor, who said he had been told what happened, he was snarky in tone and told me that he needed a couple minutes to review the account. He left me on hold for over an hour, then disconnected the call without picking it up again.

This is the third time that I have called them about the same issue and instead of being resolved, there was an additional unauthorized, inexplicable charge. I have had unauthorized charges twice now and no one can explain how or why. They told me they would refund it, less that current month's charge, and then they didn't refund the money. They dragged it out so that it crossed the next month's due date, and then told me that I owed the money, so whatever is beyond that will be refunded. That has yet to be the case.

I called back immediately after the call was disconnected. The system did not recognize my phone number until I entered it manually. This time, it brought up the current property address instead of our old property address, as it had done every other time. It said that I owed $**.** that was now past due and to have a credit card ready. That was not accurate at all. I had a monthly contract for a lesser amount, and now because of the unauthorized charges, I am technically ahead of what I owe.

When I finally connected with a person, she said that she could not talk to me because I was not on the contract and that there was no authorization to talk to me. I have been on this account since the our former property, which was in 2011. I had to go track down my husband to give permission to add me [back] to the account. She also said that there were no phone numbers on file for us. So, from what I can tell, the supervisor had erased my name and authorization, both my phone number and my husband's phone number, the old contract from our last address, and changed our billing contract from monthly installment to a non-installment agreement without ever talking to me or my husband about any of it.

The lady I talked to on this second call put me on hold to submit a refund request, which is apparently just an email to the billing department. I said that I was not comfortable letting it go at that because of everything that had transpired and that I wanted to talk to someone else. She said that she could transfer me to the billing department. I have now been holding for over two hours.

This is completely unacceptable practice from any company: unauthorized charges that they will not explain, promised refunds that never happen, saying that they will delete the card information on file so that I cannot have another unauthorized charge, leaving me hanging on hold until they hang up on me, unauthorized account changes/removal of information of notes, account authorizations/phone numbers, changing the billing agreement, and actually having my card number still on file (because the system wanted to know if they should charge the remaining balance to the card ending in...(my "deleted card"). While I have had good and bad interactions with this company over the years, this is beyond any other poor experience with a company.

So, I put a claim in. The first time, I paid Cinch 217. That was the only part I had to come out of pocket for for the whole unit downstairs. This time, when they said I needed a whole new unit upstairs, they didn’t cover anything but $900, and I had to come up with $2,300. They’re identical units. I don’t know if it’s the 2 different companies they sent. One itemized it, one just said I needed a compressor and a whole unit. I didn’t replace it so it’s hot upstairs. I wanna cancel.

We had some issues with my AC compressor, so we filled a claim online, and the lady called me in less than an hour with all the information that we needed. The guy called me two hours later. It doesn't matter what service tier you are paying for; if/when an appliance stops working...just go out and purchase another on your own because you'll save money that way. So you are probably saying to yourself, "what does Total Protect Home Warranty cover?". I'll save you the trouble of getting the run around from Customer Service Department and the claims department... Neither departments are going to help you with your issue...instead, they will present excuses and humbly tell you how sorry they are. Buyers beware!!!! Its a sham!!!!

Roderick – I appreciate your feedback and I’m sorry to hear that your claim experience was not what you expected. As with all warranties, coverage is detailed in the Agreement and there are specific terms within your policy. In this instance your warranty addressed providing a comparable replacement unit or a cash allowance since we were unable to repair your current unit. The cash allowance which was offered is based upon our cost to purchase the unit, not retail pricing. The uncovered portion of your claim is for upgrades/modifications that needed to be performed in order for the water heater to be installed properly. This information can be found in the terms and conditions of your warranty booklet which was mailed to you upon enrollment. We regret any confusion or misunderstanding of the coverage provided. The claim submission is so much better now. It was horrible to get anything done but now, it's amazing, although I don't think we can use the online to file a claim. I've tried that in the past and it doesn't recognize us because we had such an older TotalProtect plan. We had to call to file a claim. But so far, the contractors we've had are really good. The first claim I had with HMS was for my hot water heater, which wasn't working. The tech came out within a day and replaced the elements. If I had somebody nearby to do it, it would have cost less than the copay, but that's what warranty companies do. Then the ice maker in my refrigerator quit working and the tech came within a few days. I was happy with the repair at the time and it worked for a couple of weeks.

But two days ago, it quit working again. I'm fiddling with it and trying to figure out why. I was thinking of calling the HMS place. The repairman was nice and he seemed to know what he was doing. The problem was that it was freezing up because air was leaking into the ice maker. By insulating it, the repairman thought that this would take care of it. It made sense to me at the time. He only did some repair of the area and the ice maker was not replaced. I lowered the temperature in the freezer to see if that would make a difference. Although, it was at an acceptable temperature. I have a very nice refrigerator but no ice.

Still, I've been satisfied with HMS and at this time, I'm happy with them. When I've called twice, they're pleasant. They take the information, they procure the repair person and they come up within an acceptable amount of time. But I don't know what happens when I call for the same issue as second time. I'm upset that I don't have ice but I'm not mad at HMS.

I’ve had a couple offers from a couple other companies and I’ve been told by a number of people that one of them called Choice is one of the best home warranty companies to have compared to some of the others. They also had an offer I couldn’t refuse, but I couldn’t cancel the one I have with HMS without paying it out. So, I waited until the year was up, then they charged me and I was in for another year. So, here we go again.

When they had to replace the air conditioner, they ordered the air conditioner. It was the wrong one, so we had to send it back, then they ordered another one. They insisted upon ordering instead of the person that was putting it in ordering or working with them to get it sent. But when it got sent, they paid for the air conditioner. And it was supposed to include installation. I’m not supposed to pay any more money except my deductible.

But it cost me over $500 twice. Once with the furnace that had to do with the air conditioner, and the other time when they had to redo hooking up the air conditioner to the existing connections. They said that they had to change the hookup since it was different, but it wasn't because the tech hooked it right up to what was existing and they didn’t change anything. And I didn’t think I was supposed to pay for that. That’s why I have this warranty. It covers the cost of installation and if they can’t fix it, then they'll replace it. But it didn’t turn out that way and I didn’t agree with what they did. I was also not aware of that policy.

Aside from that, I filed a claim for my refrigerator and HMS had Sears come out and address the it. They also addressed the dryer and there was no problem. But, that was Sears and Sears does a good job with their things. Then, I had a claim for the gas stove and I was not happy with the people that came out. You can turn the stove on and it’ll go out. You have to watch it carefully.

But recently, I had one of the best results I’ve had in the five years that I’ve made any claims with HMS. We had no heat and I made a claim on the heat pump. They contacted the company, then the company came out and fixed it right away. Everything was fine and they called me back to check to make sure that it was okay. But I had a couple of companies in the past that weren’t real good and I ended up with miscellaneous problems off and on. Still, it wasn’t all the fault of HMS Home Warranty. It was also the fault of the person that came out and so forth.

The company did resolve this problem, they have covered the replacement of the water heater. Actually, they could not have been nicer. Thanks so much.

    Original Review: April 3, 2020

In the past months, I have had three experiences with the warranty people. The first two were absolutely perfect. This one went along very well too. My water heater started leaking so I called HMS. Got a claim going. They contacted a local plumbing company. The plumbers came over, then replaced the water heater. I thought everything was terrific, but the claim was denied and I couldn't figure out why. So, I called and talked to whoever normally answers the phone. His name happened to be Victor and he said it was denied because the plumber had not called to let them know what they were going to do. I said, "How is that my problem?" And they were not going to pay it. It's about $900 the claim is for.

And then I called the plumber. I said, "They're not gonna pay it." I gave him my credit card number. I said, "Put it on there because it has to be paid by somebody." And then I called back again and asked to talk to someone who was like a supervisor or in charge of customer complaints, and I talked to a very nice woman by the name of Johanna, and I explained all of this to her. She was very nice about it and she checked into it. She said, "Yes, that's why it wasn't covered because they didn't let us know." And I said, "Well, there must be something that can be done about this."

She said she was going to take it up but it indicated to me that it was going up to be reexamined again. I was told they would get back to me when they made a decision. So, that's where I stand. Ever since Cinch took over my home warranty company, I have been so pleased with what is going on and I hope it's just an error somewhere. I'm hoping that that is what it turns out to be because I really like what Cinch has been doing. I've been happy in the past and hopefully, this works out. If this turns out well, I want to upgrade it.

If it would've been an emergency, they would've been here.

Putting a claim is one thing, but getting somebody to actually do it, the first time around, was quite a little adventure. I had to play around with the other company that HMS used the last time for something, and it took forever. I got lucky because the timing didn't matter. Now it does. I have a tenant in the property. This recent time, HMS used Circle City Appliance. The clothes dryer wasn't working, and they were very routine. They got here and did the job. No fuss, no muss. That's all you can ask for. They got it fixed this time around and I'm going to ask for them forevermore. I tell people about HMS all the time. It's outstanding.

My father heard about HMS when he purchased our house 15 years ago. I am the one who submits claims. There are times that it’s really difficult to get through the telemarketing version to dial the automation in terms of navigating where you really need to be. But once you make your claim, you have to wait around 30 minutes for them to send out the service provider and then you have to wait for them to get back to you to schedule your time. It’s kind of annoying at times. When we originally started HMS kept sending out the same company to fix my furnace. It kept on not working. But when it went down one more time I told them not to send the same people out but they had to. They sent the big boss out that time, and at that point, they had to rebuild my entire furnace for free.

The repairman diagnosed the stove as needing a new panel. They brought it in, but wasn’t the problem. At that point, it was gonna be kind of ridiculous to keep. HMS replaced the stove and we were happy they replaced it with the same stove that we had. Our HMS experience was good and we’ll continue to keep them.

To submit claims, I usually go online and if the situation doesn’t work out well, I call up Sharon or I just call her to let her know what’s going on. The tech came in, cleaned out the filters and said, "Well, you have heat," and left. We have two homes and have two HMS policies, over $1000. We've had little odds and ends happen over the years in Maryland but we're very satisfied overall. Now, I've been living in Texas for almost two years. Some relatives suggested another company here in San Antonio but we didn't go with it. We've had a good relationship with HMS and I voted up on them because we had familiarity and we went with who we were comfortable with.

When I bought the policy, I clarified that this house is a little older than the one we've got in Maryland. The reps said it was not a problem. They were very nice when they were selling me the policy. I told them I wanna err on the side of caution and I don't wanna incur any additional expenses. I told them to sign me up with whatever they have. So I spent $750 on my policy including wiring, electrical and plumbing. I got everything ‘cause I wanted peace of mind.

When I came back from out of town, both my AC and the ceiling fans were not working. It probably broke 'cause it kept getting hot in Texas and it was working harder when I was out of town. HMS replaced the two ceiling fans. They're $75 ceiling fans and they aren't as nice as the ones that were there but they're working. But for the AC unit, they won't get it going. Something that looked like a metal tube about 8 inches long got burned out. The Freon leaked and they wouldn’t replace it because it was old.

All they do is give me lip service. They asked me to show the receipts that I had it serviced. I emailed them the receipts that I had it serviced twice, the filters changed and that it was cleansed. I did everything they asked and then they still blew me off. I've been battling with these people at HMS since last summer. I have followed up with them but they're not responding. I send them emails, I am put on hold and I go in circles. Allegedly, they forwarded it to somewhere else and then it goes into the abyss. It's like a silly game people play. It's just awful.

But I don't think HMS is equal all over the country. We never had anything major go out in our house in Texas. We had the water heater and a compressor go once 30 years ago but we've always had the warranty. I pay for the warranty year after year but it saves me a big expense that one time when something bad goes wrong. Sometimes, I've had to wait a few days before someone gets to come to look at my appliance. But we always worked together to resolve the issue.

But this time, they just completely shut me out and my confidence is shot. It's 93 degrees inside the house and we don't have AC. I'm sitting here melting away because they failed to comply with their agreement. They have a breach of contract because they insured this house and as soon as there was a real, more expensive problem, they failed to follow through and cover what they said they were gonna cover. I'm not happy and I'm very dissatisfied. HMS has been horrible and they've been the worst.

The boiler wasn’t working. The contractor came out and then it was just only the relay switch. He checked the relay switch to see if it would trigger off the next time and if it did, then how to get it back on. He was very knowledgeable. However, HMS could improve on the timing of how they respond to a call. They should have more people that are knowledgeable about knowing how to fix things. That was a problem the first time because we didn’t actually know it was a boiler. We thought it was a furnace. Also, with customer service, when calling in for something that needs to be fixed and if it’s an emergency, someone should get back with you before the day is out.

Whenever I call back about whatever issue, the system sends me to the contractor. I don’t wanna talk to the contractor. I wanna talk to HMS. When HMS answers, they always go through this whole litany of open orders.

But they find somebody who’ll fix the thing for me. Then the contractors come and fix it, I give them $100 for coming out, and I guess the next time HMS pays them. I’m assuming they’re paying for it because I never hear from anybody again. Recently our garbage disposal went up. A serviceman came the first time that I had to pay $100 for. I've been with HMS since 2010 and in our first house that we had back in Memphis, back in 2006, there was a $3,000 unit that we needed to get replaced for the air conditioner. When we came back to Ohio, it was the air conditioning unit one year, and then the furnace the next year, and it was a $12,000-unit total that we may have paid $200 out of pocket on. So, it’s just one of those where for me it’s easy to write a check for $44 a month, to know that I don’t have to worry about anything. I hate to sleep like that, but it’s wonderful.

If given a choice, I wish that I could pick my own contractors. With electrical stuff like the microwave, we’ve had them out on recalls four times. So, I’m not as sold. And when I talked to the guys that are doing the microwaves, they’re from Sears Home Service, and the guy that retired and he went to training for a four-day class. But, overall, when it comes to heating and air and plumbing, they do a really good job with the contractors for those services. It could be a little bit better on some of the other stuff. But then, at the end of the day, it’s nice that it’s one co-pay and generally it’s pretty easy to talk them in, to making any recall work that they missed the first time.

Whenever I have a claim, I call TotalProtect, they take my number down and then they assign whatever person is supposed to be doing it. They tell me that it's in my area, they give me the name of the company and they let me call the company to verify an appointment. But it gets a little confusing in between all that as to who calls who because it's all on a recording, which is one thing I don't like about it. They're just supplying me with information but then I can't ask them anything anymore. And then the same number they give is one that's not getting me anywhere.

They also say to wait at least two hours and if the company does not call, then I should call TotalProtect back. So, I do that and it's the same recording that I have already heard before and I get nowhere. That's the most frustrating part about it. Earlier on, it seems like they have somebody working there and they have a real person when I call in, which is perfect. But this time, they put us onto a recording and sometimes I can't even understand them. That's the part that's not good but once I get ahold of a person who's supposed to help me, then it runs smoothly.

TotalProtect provides a good deal and its reps are pretty efficient, so I kept renewing my contract with them. I've been a customer for 15 years. The technicians who come out are always really good, too. Recently, the furnace went out and wouldn't come on. I submitted a claim and the tech cleaned a part. He was great. Other than that, I had a front load washer that had a problem and the techs that TotalProtect sent out fixed that as well. Those are expensive items and they've never hesitated to fix them.

The contractors that have been out got the job done. However, I didn't like that TotalProtect went up on the deductible, but I guess it's the signs of the time. I haven’t had the opportunity to look for anybody else that’s why I stayed with them.

I've been in my house for seven years so I've had HMS since I've had my house. When my icemaker wasn't producing ice, I submitted a claim over the phone, which what I usually did. The reps are very nice. I like HMS, but I don't like some of their contractors. The tech was just rude, and I told HMS before. That's the only issue that I had with HMS - that the contractors that they used could be unprofessional. However, it's not their fault that the contractors don't have respect. But aside from that, it took almost two weeks to get my icemaker fixed. The guy kept giving me the runaround. He had to order the part and I had to wait. He gave me one date, and then I called. They gave me the runaround, they gave me another date, I called back, and then because I nagged they finally came out and fixed my icemaker. The guy came in and did what he had to do.

Our heating HVAC wasn’t working but a day after I sent the claim in to HMS Home Warranty, the technician came out. He was super professional. He diagnosed the problem and corrected it right then and there. He fixed a wiring and everything is good now.

We have a property that is older and is about 16 years old. This is the first time we’ve owned a house and HMS was recommended by my mortgage company. We’ve had it since September and I'm glad that we do. It's been pretty easy and good. When I have a claim, I just log in online, file it and everything’s through text. The website’s okay. It’s not as intuitive as I’d like but I'm able to find my way around it. I mainly get the notification on when to expect a contractor from the text message. It always tells me follow-up with them or it updates me pretty regularly.

We had two claims filed. The first one was for our HVAC system and that was really good. The guy was pretty thorough. They ended up having to come back out twice but it was really prompt and really fast. But the electrician that we had come out one time was a little more difficult. He was more of an independent contractor. That was kind of hit-or-miss on time scheduling and everything. There wasn’t really a good timetable on that. But the quality of their work has been good.

I was extremely happy with the company. I've been with them for about 20 years. The customer service is excellent within those 19 and half to 20 years. Also, the representatives, as well as the repair company that they sent out to my home, were extremely professional and informative of what was going to be done and the next step in the process. That was the main thing I was excited about, plus it's affordable.

About year 15 is when I started to call, when my double oven needed to be repaired. They repaired it. I haven't had any more issues. Then my refrigerator died. They sent me $500 towards a new refrigerator. Then my dishwasher died. Went crazy. I've had that replaced. Everything had gone well. With what I paid into the warranty, I felt I was getting my money's worth over the years and hadn't had that many claims. And then my hot water heater died. It died beginning of March or end of February. I called in a claim. TotalProtect sent someone out. I was excited and happy about the expediency of the repair people getting out to me, and getting them the information they needed to come out and service me.

I was no longer happy with this last incident though. I called in. My pilot on my hot water heater would not stay lit. I called in to TotalProtect. They gave me the names of 10 service companies that are vendors. The repair person, the first one that I got in touch with because I called five of them before anyone answered, was Plumb ER. They came out, took a look at it and thought they knew what was wrong with it. They got it lit, then left. It stayed lit for two days, then it went out. I called in the second time. They came back, thought they knew what was wrong with it, ordered a part, put the part on. It went out the next day. I called in again. That was service call number three. Plumb ER came out on a Sunday morning, took a look at it, lit it. 15 minutes after the tech left, it went out.

I called back and I told them I didn't know what was going on. I didn't think they knew what was going on. And Plumb ER said, "At this point, I think it is dead. We're going to contact TotalProtect and let them know that this really needs to be replaced because what we see as the issue, it's not working and it's not the issue. So, we're gonna call them and let them know." So, they did.

I contacted as well a week later just to make sure they got all the paperwork in and everything. I called five days later just to say, "Hey. Okay, I think they have already contacted you, Plumb ER, and let you know that this needs to be replaced." The representative said, "No, we haven't received any paperwork from them. Once we do, then we'll go ahead and send it up to our approval department." Well, that didn't work because Plumb ER told me and asked me, "Did TotalProtect call you?" I said, "No. Why?" "Because they're denying our claim for replacement." And I was like, "I don't understand." He said, "Well, they're gonna send out for a second opinion." I was like, "Okay. So, I have to wait again?"

Someone came out on a Sunday afternoon and did the second opinion. And he was like, "Oh yes, this is absolutely dead. It has a small leak in there. So, I'm gonna shut off the water so that it doesn't flood your house or anything, but this needs to be replaced. There's no fixing this." When he told TotalProtect this, sent in his paperwork and everything, TotalProtect called me and said, "Oh well, I'm sorry. You only have $25 left in here. That was $500 and we've had to pay off $475 to the people coming out to repair and all of that." I said, "The people that you kept sending out instead of when the first person told you that it needed to be replaced, you refused?" And they said, "Yes, but they couldn't tell us definitely what was going on. So, we had to send out for a second opinion."

I have always been happy with TotalProtect, and then I get a $25 check towards my thing from Cinch. I wasn't aware that it was now Cinch and not TotalProtect so I don't know if it's on that TotalProtect end that was wonderful, great customer service, took care of their customers. And now Cinch is coming in and, "No. We're not upholding the same quality as you guys were. We have our own thing going on." I don't know, but I did notice a change with this, and the change happened to coincide with a new company taking over.

We called about the air conditioner and heating and HMS sent someone out. The problem was it was a week later. It has been really cold. My husband kept messing with it and he finally got it going to limp through till somebody could get here. It all worked out, but it wouldn’t have been too good if we’d have to wait. They don’t come out but once a week in the area we live in. But the guy who came out was really nice and he knew what he was doing. He also gave us good advice.

My experience has been fairly well. I can always contact HMS, let them know what my issues are, and then they work with me to get them solved. The claim process was easy. Initially, I was doing it over the phone, but then I could also do it online. That makes it easier. It’s user-friendly. It doesn’t really go into great detail.

Once, my washer was leaking and I chose the showerhead options. Even though that wasn’t what was wrong, but that was the best option. There was no additional box to say it was the pipe behind the shower that was leaking. Then HMS would send text and email to say an appointment was scheduled with the plumbing company or whatever type of service I needed, and that they should be giving me a call in 24 hours but if they don’t, then HMS would also provide a telephone number for me to contact the company. All of the contractors have been pretty good. The quality of work is great. I haven't had any issues where a contractor had to come back and fix something that they had to fix.

I talked to my mom and was telling her some of the challenges that I was having with stuff that would cost more money outside of my pocket. She told me that maybe I should try to get my home insured and get a warranty company. I asked who she uses and she recommended TotalProtect. Because she's my mother, I just went on.

I had a claim where my heat went out on New Year’s Day. The provider assigned to my claim came back and was able to fix it the very next day. They were able to find a part. But on two different occasions, I had to call them back out within a week's end after the first incident because I was having issues. When the system was coming on, it was making a real cocky loud noise before it actually came on. The contractor came back out and the unit appeared to be fixed. Maybe a week or so passed and I had to call that company back out again. But in order to do that, I had to call TotalProtect first. They made contact with that provider that came out and did the work and we opened up the ticket up under that same job. They then came back out a third time.

The second time the provider came back, apparently, something was not setting up properly. When they put the piece in, it was causing the hot air to blow on it for it to impact enough that was causing the noise. The third time I had to call them, I was having the same issue. The guy that came out replaced the piece and he said that it appeared it could have been the piece that was replaced the first time had some indentation to it. I’m just hoping that I won't be compelled with this issue anymore.

Another thing is that I had an issue in the first summer that I had the home warranty. I experienced bad weather and I had a lightning surge. It took out my whole oven. That was difficult. I have two plans with TotalProtect. I had to pay out of pocket and pay extra money for the electrician, which they did not cover. I dished out a lot of money and got only $500 back. That was very frustrating to me because the surge was out of my control because of the lightning. I needed a whole new stove. When Pepco came in because the lights went out on everybody in the neighborhood, I had certain parts of my house that it wouldn’t come back on and TotalProtect did not cover that. Other than those, I haven’t had any issues.

We needed a new HVAC system. The house wasn’t cooling. We ended up having four different technicians come out. None of them knew what they were doing in regards to the system. Some of them tried to rectify the problem but ended up making it worse. And then in the end, we said we’ll find our own provider, and that was fine with HMS. We found the original guys that put the HVAC in so that they could do the work that needs to be done for the new one, we got authorization from HMS ‘cause they didn’t cover insurance.

So, we waited to get authorization from HMS. We heard that we got the green light. They said that they would cover it, and then, when the invoice came, HMS reneged on it and said that we weren’t covered for the full amount with that even though I was the one that took the original phone conversation with my husband at a conference call with the provider that did the work for us. HMS said that, in the end, it's not getting covered. It’s now been a year later, and HMS is still only covering $2,000 out of what would’ve been like 6,000. So, we had to pay for everything else. But with our recent claim for the clogged toilet, it was fine. We paid the deductible and we were done with it. The technicians were nice as well.

It's been quite a while that I've had TotalProtect and it's been good. I'm very happy with them. The last time, I needed service on my furnace. We have my granddaughter here and she's 22 months now. But at that time, she was a little younger. TotalProtect originally set me up with Sears and they weren’t gonna come until the next day. I told them that I couldn't wait. It was wintertime in Chicago.

I called TotalProtect and I told the guy I spoke with that in the past, they sent me a place locally called In Town Heating and Air. They sent them here more than once and I have been using them to clean the furnace every year. That was my own choice and I pay for that myself. It was not a regular service. I'm very pleased with them. The guy was able to cancel Sears and get ahold of In Town. I talked to the owner on the phone and also we texted. He got the technicians, who have been out here in the past, come out and had the issue taken care of.

There have also been a couple of times where I had issues with who TotalProtect sent out and I requested someone else. They were good about taking care of that. I told them that I thought one guy was just trying to rip us off. My daughter and her fiancé were here and they left the door open because they were leaving right away. He just walked right in like “I gotta get this.” I told my daughter to tell him to get out or I was calling the police. All he had to do was walk around the building. He could have come in the back and looked at the air conditioner.

But he was trying to tell me I had to pay $500 upfront for the compressor or something to be replaced. I called the company and I left a message because they didn’t answer. I said that if the guy set foot in my house again, I was calling the police on him. When the second technician TotalProtect sent out came, he said that if the guy had opened up the unit, he would have seen there was a dead mouse that had chewed through wires and basically fried and died. It was a matter of replacing some wires and pulling a dead mouse out. A lot of times after TotalProtect sends a service, they send an email satisfaction thing and I always fill it out and send it back.
