Our pool made by Anthony & Sylvan is round and it's shaped like a pond. The rep we worked with was great. We had some ideas of what we wanted and he helped us narrow those ideas down to what we really wanted. They were fabulous to work with, especially when you consider the joys of a construction project work that requires good weather. I've already referred two friends to them.

My wife and I got a gunite pool built. It's free-form and has a spa. We started this pool at the beginning of May in 2020. We were supposed to be swimming in August but that didn't occur. We finally got water into it in October. I've been in the spa a couple times, but I haven't been in the pool. Additionally, I've had people out here two or three times because the pool is leaking. I've never had so much trouble with a pool. This is the third pool that I've built and this has caused me more trouble. We're in month eight now and I have yet another warranty called in because during the evaporation test, the pool is still losing more water than the bucket that we use for the evaporation test.
When I contracted to get my pool built, Anthony & Sylvan came with a landscaper to do the travertine deck around the pool. I also had him put a deck on the back of my house, and I'm still waiting for that to be completed as well. So while it's not Anthony & Sylvan's work, they introduced me to this particular contractor that I've been terribly unhappy with. This has been a very, very lousy experience and it is not over yet.

Anthony & Sylvan has the highest quality and best warranties, so we chose to go with them. Their scheduling team was pretty good and it was easy working with the consultant. He was helpful and really flexible with making changes even after they put the orange lines out there. The installers were incredibly neat. The only problem was that they had to go over some concrete. They didn't put down boards so they cracked the sidewalk. But when I called about it, they fixed it immediately. It was no hassle.
We got the pool right when the pandemic hit. So we got to have recreation, peace and fun even in the midst of that. We've shown two people the pool and they've gone with Anthony & Sylvan already because it's so pretty. It is like a luxury backyard. We have fire rocks and fire pits. I love the fire features. We also have a little waterfall that goes into the Jacuzzi. It’s a very nice relaxing atmosphere out there. My dog loves it too.

Ron's sales tactic wasn't pushy. He told us the product that they have and why we were going to like doing it with them. Then he told us to let them know when we were ready. During the COVID situation when it all started, we were able to get our finances organized and ready for the pool. So I reached out to Ron and got the ball rolling. We got a 20x40 rectangular pool and I love it. Jeremy was our designer and he was a pleasure to work with. He was very on top of his stuff. He was very responsive throughout the entire project. Anytime I had an issue, he was quick to respond. He was very attentive.

I shopped around a lot of pool vendors before I settled with Anthony & Sylvan. Price is a little higher, however, they gave it as a one stop shop. They contracted the electrician and the plumber, and they call all the permits too. So it saved us a lot of headache. Being that it was right at the midst of COVID from the beginning, everything was so fluid. They still did a really great job with communication and scheduling. The project manager did a great job trying to keep everything together. They came and sprayed out the pool size, and it's hard to picture it just by the spray on the grass. I wish I would have went bigger. But it seems like a great fit. Construction went well. They have different contractors for each one but there could be a little bit more collaboration. They don't overlap on those for the contractors and they do their job in separate days. So if one's responsibility doesn't get done, it doesn't get done.

I liked the website of Anthony & Sylvan and the comments and the pictures that I saw. I did the consultation with Brandon and I liked him. Brandon was great. He took his time with us. We were really undecided on the shape that we wanted and he worked up several different visuals for us. He finally, after seeing what we liked and disliked, picked the shape that we got. He threw it out there and that's the one we ended up with. Our pool is an odd shape. It goes from 6 feet to 3 1/2 feet. We got a bench in one of the semicircles, which is super nice. It has two umbrella holders inside the pool. We loved the guys that did the construction, but it was very stressful. We had a lot of rain, things got delayed and the whole COVID thing. But Sam, our guy, talked me off the ledge a few times. They were all great.

Anthony & Sylvan put in a kidney-shaped in-ground gunite pool. The designer did an awesome job. The scheduling team split the work into two pieces. The first half was the pre-gunite and the second half was the post-gunite. With the pre-gunite, the person was a little bit new there so it was a little bit rough getting through with that. But the post-gunite coordinator was fantastic and the overall project manager was great. He was very responsive whenever we had a question or concern. Of all the projects that we've done so far, the pool was the least stressful.

We did some research and by word of mouth, we learned about Anthony & Sylvan Pools. They were able to give us a good quote, so we went with them. We got a rectangle pool and it's got a sun shade area. We love it and we like to use it. Our design consultant was great and her name was Melissa. We really liked her and we had nothing but great experiences with all of them. I have recommended them to several friends.

I had a co-worker that had a pool put in by Anthony & Sylvan. Even though Anthony & Sylvan was a little bit higher, I felt more comfortable with them as far as the longevity and having their own people. Our pool made by them is a pretty decent size. We had the water feature coming out on the sides there and I like it. My wife loves the little sitting area with the table there and she put an umbrella in because it gives us a little bit of shade during the hot days. The rep we worked with was phenomenal. Everything was on the timeline that they have laid out. We got it done a little bit sooner and there were no snags. We had one little issue, but it was just with the table for the pool itself that they forgot to order. But other than that, everything was great. The pool has also been very easy to maintain. It’s been a really good addition to the family and it’s very relaxing and enjoyable.

My neighbors built their pool through Anthony & Sylvan. I went and looked at their pool and I liked it. They gave me Dan’s number as a referral so I called him and we made arrangements. Dan was helpful and honest. Also, I love the pool. The only thing is I regret not adding another LED light in there because, at night, half of it looks dark.

Our pool made by Anthony & Sylvan is beautiful. It's a free-form gunite pool with a 21-foot bond beam wall, tanning ledge, loveseat and two umbrella stands. We love it. The kids love the deck jets and they love the waterfall that comes out of the wall. My favorite part of the pool is the tanning ledge. Brian, the design consultant, was very knowledgeable and very accommodating in terms of revising the drawings. We made a few changes to the design of the pool and to the location of the pool. He was very responsive. When we came to little hiccups in the process, he was there. He helped smooth things out. He was good. We would definitely recommend him.

I’ve already recommended them and a couple of people have already gotten the pool from them.

I got a rectangular pool with a built-in spa through Anthony & Sylvan. The design’s okay. It's an adequate design. There was just some construction issues. Then, there was a design issue that they're supposed to correct. I've been waiting for them to correct it, and it hasn't gotten done. They're supposed to have it scheduled this month. They keep telling me they're gonna schedule it, but I haven't seen anything. So, I'm waiting. The project manager was very good. He got his job done. Mostly, it's just the design issue that I wasn't too pleased with. I wasn't happy with the consistency of the surface on the bottom. Then, I have a safety issue with one of the lights. They didn't design the lighting correctly and I have a safety issue.

Everything with Anthony & Sylvan went fine up until the final payment was made. There were some issues cleaning up at the end. But other than that, the pool, the structure and everything have been fine. I do have issues with the valves for the sheer descent. It works intermittently. The Poolman is who Anthony & Sylvan set me up with for the pool maintenance. So, they are continuing to try to figure it out. I really don't want to interact with Anthony & Sylvan because of the way things ended. I was not pleased.
The design was great. I went with Anthony & Sylvan because they were the premier brand. I believe in paying for quality. What I was told was that the valves were set up originally wrong. They've tried to correct that. It's worked for a couple of months, and then it's out. I'm not there all the time. It’s my vacation home. When I was there over the Thanksgiving holiday, I went to show one of my relatives the sheer descent, and it just dripped down the wall. They are looking at it to see if they can fix it. I'm waiting on them to get back to me.
If someone asks me about Sylvan, I'd tell them that they will get a good quality pool. They will be attentive during the installation. But I'd tell them to make sure to get everything attended to before their final payment, which is hard to do because they request the final payment before they finalize. Anthony & Sylvan, from my perspective, takes care of themself first. Then, you're gonna struggle with anything you need at the end.
I got oil stains in front of my house left by the contractors, and it took about six weeks to get that resolved to where I had to write a letter to the president of Sylvan before anyone responded. My neighbors were upset. None of us are okay with oil stains in a brand-new community. So, it didn't help me and my wife as we were trying to build relationships with neighbors that we don't live with. Anthony & Sylvan definitely hurt themselves in my community there because people saw the trucks, and I was very open with who I was working with.
I'm still kind of not really satisfied overall with them. That was a lot of money that was spent. I spent that extra money for the quality and for the customer service. I work for a premier global brand myself, and I understand our customers pay extra money over our competitors. The reason they do that is because they know the quality and the service that will be provided even when something goes wrong. That’s what I'm disappointed about.

Anthony & Sylvan got a great building construction, project manager, and everything turned out perfect. I've got a pool in my backyard now, and the quality is terrific. The timeframe would be just about six months. It was going through the holidays, so it was a little bit longer of a process than their normal. But it was right at what they estimated. The salesperson did all the design and went above and beyond and did some stuff designing of changes to my house that we wanted to do in the future to let me see what everything would look like. I’d use Anthony & Sylvan 10 times out of 10.

Where I live, Anthony and Sylvan is a very prominent pool company. They're one of the few bigger ones. The reason we went with them was most of the people that we know that were either building pools at the current time that we were deciding to build the pool or had built pools did it through Anthony & Sylvan. They’re highly recommended at least for this region.
They did a freeform pool with a spa spillover. From beginning to end, it was an outstanding experience. They went above and beyond during the whole building process, from design to building to finalizing. I could be a pain sometimes because I may ask more questions but everybody was attentive and willing to answer questions. We are having one little minor issue with the pool and it's been going on for a couple of months, back and forth, but they've been extremely attentive to the issue. I would tell people to use Anthony and Sylvan. If I had to build another pool, I would use them in a heartbeat. It's definitely worth investing your money with them. We love having the pool. The pool itself is different from what I grew up with which is the regular geometric shape. I like the way it sits in our backyard. Having the pool versus being in a community pool is a big difference.

The salesperson from Anthony & Sylvan that we had was nice, seemed to be knowledgeable, and helped us figure out the design. Everything seemed pretty professional at that point and we were very pleased with what everything was going to look like. But the project manager was a complete idiot and was horrible. We had multiple problems with him, as well as with some of the various contractors. The contractors were okay but no one is supervising them or telling them what to do. They would show up half the time without instructions and they started doing things wrong in several areas.
My husband, luckily, is a contractor and was able to be home most of the time. He was overseeing it because our project manager was nowhere to be found. He caught several things that were going to be done wrong had we not noticed, which was pretty disconcerting. Especially knowing that there might be things that we still haven't catch.
We love the way the pool looks now and everything looks great. But we've had continued issues and our pool is drained right now. We have a huge crack that goes down the middle of the entire pool and we've been losing water the entire time and filling it up pretty much weekly. Now, our pool has sunk to the backside by about three-quarters of an inch. We're in the middle of this warranty thing and we haven't even hit a one year mark on our pool. And communication has been pretty horrible. We've been passed on to about 10 different people.
I'm worried about us having to do this again in a year or two, once we're out of warranty and pay for it on our own expenses. Also, we've referred a couple of other people to them and one of our best friends just broke ground last week. I'm very upset about that because had I known these things initially, I would never have sent them Anthony & Sylvan's way. I'm hoping they don't have the same problems as us.

Ron is a really good salesman. He was awesome and super attentive. We planned the pool during COVID so most of what we did was on zoom and he helped us figure it all out. He made a design at one point and then we decided we wanted geometric. He didn't act angry or frustrated. He's really good at what he does. But when they came to put up the pool, I felt like we had to stay on top of our project manager a lot to keep things moving. He was fine but he wasn’t as on top of things as Ron was.
We had some issues with grading being done wrong and there were some things that took them coming back multiple times. There were people there working on stuff but no one would show up for a while to make sure they did it right. In the end, we didn't pass our first inspection because there were a couple of little things that we didn't know about, until the inspector told us. They had to come out and fix those. They fixed those within a day but then we had to wait for the inspector to come back again. I recommend that Anthony & Sylvan do not use that sub anymore but I still would recommend Anthony & Sylvan. They built a great pool and they did their best to be on time. The decking is really pretty and I really like the tanning shelf. It’s a great spot and I'm looking forward to sitting there a lot this summer.

Anthony & Sylvan wasn't a mom-and-pop shop that could just close up at any time and we felt like they would be there if we had repairs in the future. We got a spa with a freeform pool from them. The end product was good. But the process was miserable. We found out that we had a change request and the salesperson, who was also our designer, tried to slip in additional unneeded costs. Also, the project manager was terrible. He never returned our calls and never kept us informed. It’s one of the worst experiences I've had with a company.

The salesperson from Anthony & Sylvan was easy to work with and he understood the process. My questions were answered right away. They started in early September and finished in early November. Then there were 30-days after that to wait for everything to cure. It took that long to do it but there weren't big gaps in the schedule. We had some challenges afterward with some settlement and some leaks and stuff. But as far as the contractors go, it went really well. The girl that scheduled everything she kept pretty good tabs on everybody. It was one sub after the other and they were able to get them in there one right after the other. So, it went very well. We use our pool a lot. We were in it last week. We really enjoy it. I told other people about Anthony & Sylvan and I would do it again with them.

Steve, the designer from Anthony & Sylvan, was excellent as well as the construction of the new pool. But I developed a leak and I told them where the problem was and how to fix it. It was simple and it could have been done the first time but I've been trying to get them to fix it for a year. They sent someone out about two weeks ago and that was the seventh time someone has been out. It's a shame this one leak has been such a drag on the pool build but I've been happy with everything else. It has been easy to get ahold of the reps. They take my messages and say they’re going to get on it and then, I just wait to hear back from them. Eventually, I do hear back from them or I'll call them, and they respond quickly when I call them back.

We have a free-form pool and we added the hot tub and the tanning ledge or waiting area. We also have umbrella holders on each side. We had an extremely positive experience with the design rep and quality-wise, we got a good value for what we received. Because it was a whole package, everything was included and we didn’t have to worry about anything such as running the electrical lines, gas lines and all of that type of extra things. We had some issues with the city inspector and it may have caused a couple of weeks delay. Also, weather can cause delays but there wasn’t anything that significantly impaired or that we were significantly behind schedule. The time it was completed was reasonable.
The one thing that my wife and I were less than happy about was that during the process, the concrete trucks did a relatively significant damage to our irrigation system because of their weight. The landscaper that we hired did some of the contract and also did the rest of our landscaping kind of stuff. They repaired it. The final grading of the construction site should be included in the pool process. If you come in and you significantly put three-foot ruts in somebody's yard, there should be a process. That has been taken care of but it should be done. When you spend $150,000 on a pool, when it's finished, you wanted to be finished. There should be some inclusion of landscaping into the final price. There should be some attempt to mitigate the damage that was done in the area of your lawn that was damaged by the pool process.
Ron, our salesperson, was a tremendous asset in the whole process, having the experience. Having the same person do our landscaping, that was also hired by Anthony & Sylvan to do the travertine around our pool, helped to make the process more congruent and flow better. So, that was good. I would recommend Anthony & Sylvan. Ron told us some people wanna do their own concrete around the pool to cut costs and I would recommend not doing that. We had walls built and got the decking, which was all necessary as part of the pool process but it helped to have that all coordinated so that it was all done in a smooth fashion.

My coworker got a pool from Anthony & Sylvan and we decided to go with them after we looked up a couple of people. The initial phase of the installation was painful but once it was in, everything was great. A lot of it had to do with a lot of the tradesmen. They don't necessarily work for Anthony & Sylvan so, there's not a lot of care when it comes to certain things. They broke two of our pipes to the ground. Those things are gonna happen but there was a lot of recklessness on their part. It had nothing to do with Anthony & Sylvan and once I contacted them, they did everything they could to make it right.
I had to pay out of pocket because Anthony & Sylvan wasn't liable. I had to eat that for my neighbor's pipes and mine. The pool is either 15 or 16 feet wide and 30 or 32 feet long, with the upper spa, which is our favorite because we can use that all-year-round. I would recommend Anthony & Sylvan. They're one of the few that would do that. Also, we liked their reputation and the lifetime warranty on the shell was a big seller. We had a basic design from a fiberglass pool that we wanted to model after and Jason, the sales rep, did some adjustments. There was one part where there was a little bench on one end and initially, the way we had it, it was gonna cost a whole lot extra. But he suggested that we could make that a cutout and it was a couple of hundred dollars extra instead of thousands. We paid cash for pool and it was easy and simple. Everything's very transparent. They defined the process. We talked to several other companies and from a pricing perspective, they were competitive with everybody else. They translated my vision for what I had in mind better than anybody else. When I went to make changes, they weren't put down or disregarded. I'm a builder and I've used only Anthony & Sylvan for the last 10 years. They're always on time. I've never had any issues about delays. It's probably helpful that I have a relationship with them. Their project manager and their salesman are both great. Ray, the project manager, makes it seamless. Whatever I need or whatever needs to happen, he's always on it. Brian, my salesman, will take any time I need to get things all set up and work with me with budgets and trying to get creative. He's around whenever we got questions, if we have any during the process too when we're building.
They've got great subcontractors. Everything they do turns out really nice. It seems like they got great relationship with them. The most important things to me are the warranty and the quality. There are a lot of pool people out there so you can always probably find a cheaper pool. But who knows what's going to happen down the road. For me, it's about having a customer have something that they don't have any issues with. The scheduling team was great. But I had issues with some of the subcontractors. They left a huge mess. Everything from leaving food out to draw raccoons to finding random blocks of dried concrete stuck on fences and on trees. There was also an issue with the grading. I had the soil moved because we had to reuse it to support one side of the pool but they got rid of it. They took it. When I came home, the soil was gone. I called up and it took days and days to get it back. I never got all of it back so I had to pay for extra dirt to come in.
As far as the project manager goes, he was great except that he wasn’t the best on getting back to me at a timely manner. It was lacking a little bit of communication. The scheduling was all over it, and a lot of times, I had to call scheduling to get him on the phone. They were also behind. They have more scheduled for one day and they didn't come out until the next day. Nobody would tell me what was going on.

We had the house built and right after we moved in, we wanted a pool installed. Anthony & Sylvan's design consultant was very knowledgeable and she presented a lot of good options. One of the reasons we went with them was because she explained everything so thoroughly and gave us an actual design. As far as the construction, our point of contact was a fabulous gentleman. He was on point and was here all the time checking up on stuff and answering questions. If I had a question, I called and he responded promptly. Aside from that, our pool is very good quality and my favorite part of it is the sun deck. Things went really well and we were really pleased with our experience. We've also recommended Anthony & Sylvan to a couple of neighbors.

We had a friend who used Anthony & Sylvan and they were doing a lot of pools in our neighborhood. Plus, they came in with the best bid and design that matched what we were looking for. We designed the pool and they did a great job bringing that to life. It was a little different than standard pools and our project manager was good and helpful. He made sure that he answered our questions and that we got things done the way we needed them to. His name was Ray and he was great. But the sales guy was not and our experience with him was not ideal. Despite that, once we started building the pool, the project manager and the trades folks, except for one group, were all very good.

We did a local search for pool contractors and sat down with several. Anthony & Sylvan was one of them and their price came in about the same as the others. In some cases, they were more expensive, but we really liked their salesperson, so we went with them. Their salesperson was honest about the cost, the construction, the timeframe, and everything about the whole experience, unlike some of the other ones that we dealt with who seemed to be pushing products and pushing the sale more than anything else.
We had some ideas for the design, so they sort of presented a 3D model based on some things that we had come up with. Then, we took that 3D model and defined it to fit our needs. The overall quality of the construction was really good and once that was finished, there were very little things that needed to be fixed. The construction process was really seamless as well which took seven weeks. We started right around Valentine's Day and we ran by April. But COVID ramped up right at the end of it. It was a large number of people in the same truck, so they reduced the sizes of the crew and that delayed how the crew was doing their transportation. But the general manager of the local facility contacted me and gave us different options. So, they worked around that issue.

I had been looking into getting a pool for several months and I talked to a couple of different companies. Based on reputation, I went with Anthony & Sylvan. They've been around for a long time, so I knew I could get warranty covered. The design consultant came out, created a plan for the pool, and added a couple of minor things back and forth until we got it the way we wanted it. The process was fairly smooth and they executed the build pretty quickly. They had a project manager, so I've also had a lot of contact back and forth with him. The construction part only took about two and a half months and it turned out pretty well. With everything that's going on this year, our pool was our escape and with it, we had something to do every day. All in all, we were pleased with how everything turned out and we're looking forward to next summer when it warms up to use the pool again.

The designer met us at the house, showed us a bunch of options, took measurements and a bunch of pictures of the property. A week later, we got together, and he went over the whole design, which gave us a very good visual idea of what it would look like at our house. Everything came out exactly the way we expected. Our pool is a 16 by 32 rectangle and it's six and a half foot deep. It's got a waterfall as well as travertine decking all the way around. I love the way it looks and feels. Also, Anthony & Sylvan's customer service is unbelievable. They were excellent. Anytime I had any questions at all during the whole process, the designer and the project manager were just a phone call or a text away. I got an immediate response.

I had five people come out and give me an estimate, and Anthony & Sylvan is the one that won out. It wasn’t the cheapest pool, but we went with Anthony & Sylvan because of Brian (the design consultant). My wife wanted a pool and Brian was the biggest reason we went with Anthony & Sylvan. He followed up more so than the other guys did. I’ve sold most of my life, and the other pool builders didn’t follow up. When you’re going for a $100,000 pool, I don’t understand not following up. They went through the effort of coming out, looking at the project, giving a bid on it, and then we didn't hear from them. I had to call them and then they said they would get back to me and never did. My neighbor is also putting a pool right now, and Brian sold it to him.
Our freeform pool turned out well. Some of the subs weren't all that good, but there were some things that they were supposed to come back and do with my coping and my papers. They came out, marked them and never showed back up. I got some issues with the supervisor on the job as well. He promised things I haven’t seen. I’ve contacted him on a couple occasions and next month would be a year since he said he was gonna get in touch with me again. I tried to contact him a couple of times and I can’t get ahold of him. He lives right down the road from me too. The training aspect of starting the pool sucked and follow up did too.

We didn't talk to the guys that sprayed the gunite, but we interacted with the crew that did the main work, which was the hardscape.

The pool that we got from Anthony & Sylvan looks great. When they were putting it in, they did it in less than four months which is good. But for a first-time pool buyer, you need a little patience. You’re gonna have questions and they should make it easier to get ahold of them to get some answers around things. But usually the answer was that they would check the schedule. Or give the link where you can go look at what the schedule is. It’s impersonable. I haven’t had any problems with the pool itself but the lights didn’t work and they refused to come out and make time to look at them and replace them. They said it was because of COVID. The whole process working with them was extremely difficult and frustrating. I live in a neighborhood where there are multiple people that have done Anthony & Sylvan Pools and I heard that from a bunch of my neighbors.
Anthony & Sylvan do it at a good price and they do good work but they don't make you feel good about the experience at all. I’ve had to change one of the improved pumps and I’ve used another pool servicer that is good with customer service and they've been awesome. Anthony & Sylvan’s model is to make money through volume. In the end, they get it done for you but that was not a fun process at all. They don’t do the easy stuff well because they don’t have the people. They are very lean and you just wait on them. Anthony & Sylvan has a project manager for four states. So, it's hard to get ahold of them. The one guy that came out stopped by and we caught up but otherwise, they’re always working on somebody else’s stuff.
There's too much competition out for people that are spending the kind of money that we would spend on a pool for Anthony & Sylvan not do the customer service that you would need. When I had the other pool company out here, they talked about single pumps and how generic my pool system was. It’s nothing bad but if I move somewhere and did another pool, I would not have Anthony & Sylvan do my pool.

My loan officer said that they used Anthony & Sylvan to build their pools. We got our new pool from them too. It's a free form pool that is about 20,000 gallons and goes from 3 to 6 feet. It has a small water feature in the back and a sun shelf. My kids are in the pool all the time. However, we had a few issues. The installation was about a two-month process altogether. We had some issues when it was finished and there were issues with the drainage, especially the sprinkler system. We had a leak. From the management aspect of the way the yard was sloped, it could have been managed a little differently to eliminate those issues before they became a problem. The installers had to come back several times. They added some drains and put a little rock wall to block the water from going into the pool.
Also, there were several things that we thought were included in the original price. We had to come back and get more money and stuff that could have been taken care of. Since it was our first pool, we had no idea what to expect. I had to have somebody else come out and fix stuff because I couldn't really get the installers out there.

We got our first pool with Anthony & Sylvan and we were rushing to get it finished sometime within that summertime range. We probably could have planned it a little bit differently. But we had a great experience on the whole. Our pool is a free form and it has a spa as well. We had a great design rep who was very honest, upfront about things, and very easy to work with. Everyone seems fine and good to work with too although I was a little confused sometimes about who I should be contacting for what issues. There seemed to be some different hands in the pot. We wanted a pool for a couple of years now. But we didn't know how to go about as far as financially, and what we wanted versus what we could afford. The electrician that does the work for Anthony and Sylvan is a patient of my wife and he recommended Anthony & Sylvan. What stood out was the sales guy that came out. The pool was a custom design, which we never thought that we could have what we have, in the space that we have. The thing that stood out the most was what they did with the amount of space they had. It was a speedy process for what they did. There was a time where things moved really fast, and then it seemed like nothing was happening. Then, it all speeded up again towards the end. But the process was good. They communicated with us throughout the whole process, so it was nice.

We had used Anthony and Sylvan previously in another house that we owned and we liked the work that they did, which was the reason why we went with them this time. The managers ad personnel were fantastic through the whole process although some of the subcontractors they use were not that good. There were a couple of things we disagreed on but we found some resolution. The way Anthony & Sylvan is structured, they have certain people covering different levels of the process and it caused a lot of confusion internally on their end. So, I ended up doing majority of the stuff myself such as going for permits and expediting the work on my own for my own benefit. The way they tier their structure in their company didn't put a sense of urgency in certain levels. They should have less people.
I wasn't happy with the plaster finish that happened because they had some rough edges and stuff. They told me that is what happens when there's acidity levels in the pool. I've owned several homes and several pools, and I've never had that happen. They told me to take a wire brush and brush it down, and I vigorously did. I bought 10 different brushes and nothing worked. They offered one suggestion but nobody came out to try to show me that I'm doing it wrong or this is the technique that you do. So, they left it like that and then, we didn't do anything else afterwards. I was made to come up with a solution.
People need not be fearful of asking questions to these guys because the more information people are told and they ask questions about, the better off and informed in the process they're gonna be, especially with the other subcontractors. The payment mechanism was one of the other issues I had. One of the last payments we had to issue was the plaster guy and he refused to start his work until he had a check in his hand. Meanwhile, I already paid 95% of the fees of the entire pool. I wasn't in the vicinity at the time so, I had to come all the way from a half an hour's drive with a check to give to the guy. Even when I told him I was on my way, he still sat on his truck and didn't start work until I got there and physically handed him the check. So, I don't know whether that was a trigger to the bad end product but one of those things lead towards that. I made it clear to the management of Anthony & Sylvan that this is not the way to do business.
I’m in construction too and nobody remembers how you started the job but they remember how you finish the job. And being that was one of the last elements that they had, it was not a good way to end their project with a guy refusing to work because he didn't have his check in his hand. I had to cut some business meetings off in order to turn around and come here and pay this baby who wasn’t one to work until he’s guaranteed his check.

I walked into Sylvan and looked around. I went with them because they were a little bit cheaper. They also go nationally and they got this warranty. They have all the stupid stuff that they use to hook people, including lying. I ended going to them because the designer was good. But I wouldn’t have went through all this stuff that I went through after he got out the picture. The manager was sent out to oversee the contractors. But didn't oversee anything because he was never there.
The contractors would tell me they were gonna dig the hole and they came to do that. Then they came to lay the piping and do the electrical. But it took a long time for them to do anything. Then there's the pandemic and the hurricane. All that stuff that I went through for years and years. It was about a year of me arguing with them.
I had a leak in one of the water lines going into it. For the longest time, I thought it was water building up in the corner due to the pool being installed. So I put gutters but not really knowing that it had to do with the pool’s water line that had ruptured. I dealt with that for a very long time. They were supposed to fix it. They came and looked at it. They ran a pod because they said maybe it was the water. But when they ran the pod, it wasn't in the right spot. I told them to send people to come over here to work in my house and call me and let me know and say they're gonna be there. So that way, I know exactly where the water is building up. They said they were gonna make another arrangement to get them back out there. It took another three months for that to happen.
They finally got there and they installed the drain where the water was building up. Then I realized that it was not the issue. Because then, the other side of my house was getting real soggy. They spent a lot of time and it’s still not fixed to this day. They fixed the waterline but they still haven't retouched up the top surface of my decking. They had to cut through the decking before they could go fix that pipe. I ain’t got nothing done on that little area where they opened up to fix the leak. They screwed me over and I spent a lot of money.

My first experience with Anthony & Sylvan was in 1997 and it was a different experience. It was a much easier process, and the things were fixed promptly and done in a better way. But the people I worked with were helpful and meant well. They were good people who acted professionally and rationally. They did their best to help me. But these guys were overextended. They had more work than the people could handle and it led to inefficiencies and delays. I had a number of delays and holdups that shouldn't have been.
My sales guy was Larry and he was great. Dennis was my initial project manager and he was great too. My follow up project manager, Scott, was a great guy as well. Their job was to get other people to do work. But that was not always efficient. It had nothing to do with their service with me. My project managers cared about me and the product. But they couldn't always get the organization to move in a way that was efficient because there was too much work. The company behind them did not give them the level of service and support that they should.
There were a lot of good guys. But I wasn't that keen on the electricians because I had to fight with them to make it look good. I really liked the guys who did the pool cover and the tilework. Everybody who did their jobs when they got there did a good job. But the scheduling was a mess. I don't blame the project manager for that because it's beyond his ability to control what people do or don't do. Before we came to the finish, I wanted the plumbing and the electrical inspectors out there because there were some issues with this pool. I wanted everybody on the same boat and the same game plan. My project manager set it up.
On the day, only one guy showed up, and when we called, the other guy said, "Well, you didn’t remind me. It’s not my problem to be there." Things like that drove me nuts. You set up a meeting and people don't show. My project manager did what I asked. He was as flabbergasted as I when the guy didn't show up. If you set a meeting and everybody accepted the date and the time, they should show up without having to be reminded.

My favorite thing about the pool is the availability and the luxury of it, having it right on our own backyard.

The pool is awesome. Kids love it. It's a long rectangle pool with modern shape and size. It also has a spa. Anthony & Sylvan is a great company. But there were some things that could have been done better. Getting through them on the phone for service seems impossible. If you're doing a big construction job, there's gonna be things that’ll go wrong. But at the same time, you would think that certain things would be planned out a little bit better. You would think that the subcontractors would work better and actually care because they're working with Anthony & Sylvan. But some of them don't care. I have stuff I had to redo already because of their subcontractors, and I've only had the pool for a year. It's nothing to do with the pool, but it's the outside stuff around. But for the most, they did a good job.
They built the retaining walls and there's light in those walls. But it hasn't been a year and some of the lights aren't working already. We had an issue with the wall that they built that wasn't straight. The subcontractor pretty much told me that it was not their problem anymore. I rather pay more money and go through somebody else in those scenarios. Because I can't get anybody on the phone for service anyway. It's really hard to get someone on the phone to answer. We understand COVID, but it's hard to get somebody on the phone if you have an emergency.
Once the sales guy makes the sale, he's out of the picture and he's gone. So to me, that's not cool. If you sold it, shouldn't you be interested and making sure everything is good and checking in? Maybe I'm a little needy, but I'm spending a lot of money. There has to be a little more attention to the customer when you're making the sale, in the middle of the construction process, and after the construction process. The foreman didn't come out and see everything until they were building retaining walls. I had to call him because they were building it wrong. Once I did that, they came out. But that could be people are busy in management and timing. Everything seemed to be okay.
The overall experience was good. Their opening and close department is really good. But I wish a little more personal attention from the sales department and the after-sales. I would even recommend them doing a site visit and ask how everything was going after three or six months. Their customer service is very weird and there's not a clear path of who you need to talk to and how do you do it. There were no clear things with all the subs that they used. These guys just come in and do what they're told and they say Anthony & Sylvan hired them Also, I had a friend who was looking to build a pool and I gave him the salespeople. But they never even called him back.

We have some good friends that used Anthony & Sylvan and they had a great experience. We immediately trusted the salesman and his approach. Brian did such a fantastic job. He was very transparent about the process and the cost. He helped us think through the different options and how our sort of pool lifestyle would match up with particular products, like salt versus chlorine.
Brian led with some stats and information about Anthony & Sylvan as compared to other companies, and that was important information. They're a company that's been around for a long time and should something happen to your pool or you needed work, it's a company that you can reach out to. They'll be able to create a solution. We got a 41 feet by 19 feet pool and 38,000 gallons. So it's a big pool. There's also a waterfall. I love to do projects outside, so the pool is a great reward when you're outside working hard in the yard and doing some different things. I have a place to cool off.
We had a great experience with Brian. The one thing that we had to manage closely was the project manager who I would even consider him a friend now, but he had not yet completed a pool. From that standpoint, it was him not necessarily knowing what to look for or what could be a problem. Anthony & Sylvan uses subcontractors. So a team of people came out to grade the pool and they looked professional. They have nice trucks but they did a terrible job. Our project manager signed off on their grading work and that ended up creating a lot of issues in terms of our filter filling up with mud and them coming out to clean. We ended up with a bunch of mud in our pool. For the most part, Anthony & Sylvan worked to resolve that. We got a little resistance from one person in the office. But again, Brian stepped in and sort of saved the day. So we ended up having Brian buy new filters for us.
They said they came out and cleaned our pump. I wasn't home when they did that. But when I went to clean it a second time months later, I looked at the pictures of when they had come and cleaned the filter and it was a completely different pump. It wasn't even our pool. So our pool was set for months with the filter being completely full of mud.

I met Ron, who was the salesman for Anthony & Sylvan, and we started striking up a conversation. I asked him about pool designs. And he said that it was exactly what they do. He did a stunningly good job in designing the pool. He did a 3D rendering where it went from daylight to nighttime, and a little video for us where you could literally see our house. I knew exactly what I was looking at. This didn't even take him weeks to do. I met him one day, and the next night, it was in my email.
I have a very, very frugal wife who does not like spending money. But she told me she was open to getting a pool. I got this video and she walked in at 7:30 at night exhausted, and she watched it and she said it was beautiful. She loved it. The video stopped and she looked at me and asked if that was what our pool guy came up with. I told him yes and she said she wanted it. We got the big hot tub size and it waterfalls into the pool. It's lovely.
The construction team was on time and delivered on pretty much everything. They screwed up on a couple of small things, but the general contractor caught most of it. Unfortunately, it was usually that I would tell him that I didn't think certain things were right. But he would tell me that they knew what they were doing. Then he saw it and stopped them.
The GC busted out the workers a few times when they were trying to backfill in where all the pipes were next to the shell of the pool underground. They were back filling in all the debris with rock. I said that they could break with the vibrations. Then the GC got here and he saw it. He told them to stop everything and that they can't put that in there. He told them it could break all the pipes. Then he told them to clean it all out and do it again. But if he wasn't here, they could’ve literally damaged the entire construction of our pool years later. That would’ve destroyed our whole pool deck, all the surface, and cause massive amount.
I've been meaning to call somebody at Anthony & Sylvan to ask them to check out one issue. The circuit breaker for the hot tub keeps triggering for this whole year. There's a short somewhere in the circuit. Then the hot tub is not working. We have to get up and flip the switch and then it starts heating again. But it trips all the time.
Overall, Anthony & Sylvan was fantastic. My family has gotten such great use out of the pool. This hot tub has been the best money we’ve ever spent on this house. All the neighbors looked at it and say our backyard is amazing. Everyone who's surrounding me now has been pouring money into their yards in their houses trying to make their stuff prettier. My friend right now is talking about building one of those swimmable hot tubs where you can swim inside of it. He said he was getting a grotto built in his pool and that they can do this design where it almost looks like you're swimming up to a beach. If I gave known that, I would’ve bought more because interest rates are so low and financing was so easy.

There was no idea of what to expect. It went all the way up the ladder for a lot of people to find out what was going on with my pool. Anthony & Sylvan should have somebody in the scheduling department that reaches out to customers and lets them know that that they’re in the queue someplace or that they may not see anybody this week and not have it where there's three weeks with no activity.

I used to manage large industrial ship repair contracts and I could say that Anthony & Sylvan really did not have great coordination with a lot of their subs. I have my own contractors who did some of the prep work and were able to interface with the Anthony & Sylvan contractors on my behalf because they have greater technical knowledge. It was not all that easy to get from the start to the finish. One of the primary problems was the length of time between when they would finish one step and when they could get their next contractor here.
The second issue is I had a liner pool there for 20 years previously, which we decided to replace with a gunite pool. There were a few things outside of their normal process of come in, dig a hole, and put a pool in. Right from the start, they were not able to determine how much of the footing of the old pool had to be removed. My contractors got rid of the old pool. Anthony & Sylvan came in with their contractor to trap the hole and put in the rebar. The guy couldn't do it because it wasn't to his satisfaction, which we could've gotten done right in the first place because they came and looked at it. But they weren't able to tell that. It just went on like that for nine months. Time got lost continuously because they didn't have a really good handle on what needed to be done next or having the contractor available.
Another example, the heater I had for the old pool was still 100% good and it was still there in service. But just the fact that there was an existing heater they had to utilize through them for a complete loop. Someone who's been in this business for how many decades, you would think that wouldn't be such an insurmountable obstacle. Whatever kind of workaround we had to do based on the normal process, my contractors took care of that because theirs were not able to, and it wasn't hard. It was because it was slightly outside the standard procedure. It was like they didn't know what to do. It was incredible.
I got a really nice-looking pool, and I'm thankful for that. But my guys did a lot of it. My guys put in the surround. They worked with the tile guys who put in the mosaics. My guys took care of some of the plumbing and the electrical, just like digging the trenches. Because of the prior existing pool and the layout, their plumber could not get his mini backhoe he was using in where he normally would. Somewhere it had to be dug by hand and my guys got that done within a day. Their contractor appeared 100% unwilling or unable to do the same thing.
Those pools cost a lot of money, and they should be able to figure out a better way to do that. If I didn't have a few guys that I work with all the time on projects, it would've been a real disaster. Anthony & Sylvan's process, especially if there's any deviation from just coming in to dig a hole and put a pool in a wide open field, is a painful one because they really don't have it organized very well. They need to tighten their process up 'cause our pool could've been done months earlier than it was.

My husband looked at different companies to compare what he's gonna get for his money. We are people that would normally go with local. We tried to do local as much as we could, but the local people here quoted $10,000 more than the Anthony & Sylvan. He went with Anthony & Sylvan because they had a better package, the most affordable. I found out later afterward, my husband didn't do enough research ‘cause we found another company that would have done it even less expensively. But we got what we wanted and we paid a fair price. It's been awesome. We kinda designed the pool ourselves and that was how I got some curves in it. We have an existing hot tub. I like the ledge that I requested and I also like the look of the perimeter where the rocks are. Their people were there every day. They were on time. They worked hard. Overall, Anthony & Sylvan did a good job.

I was doing my due diligence of looking at several different pool companies. Tim, the guy that came out, was very knowledgeable and had great customer service. There were two other companies that presented that were very similar to them. I just thought that Tim was very appealing. He would answer all my questions and had good manners and mannerism about him. The way he presented their plan was better than the other ones. I love the pool. They went above and beyond with the quality design, and we had no problems at all, whereas some of our friends had problems with their pools who have gone with other companies. Anthony & Sylvan provides great quality. They were on in step by step.

Anthony & Sylvan is in the town next to me. I had gone to several pool builders to price out inground pools. From what I believed, they had the most experience ‘cause all they do is pools. They're not just a contractor that does some pools. Our pool is a rectangle-shaped pool with a bump out by the deep end instead of a ladder. It's 17 feet by 35 feet. It's got about 500 square feet of concrete patio surrounding it and has a fence that surrounds the patio. During COVID, it was a lifesaver. We really spent as much time as we can in the pool. It's a recreation thing.
Their designer was great. He showed us several different options. He pulled it right up on the computer and showed what it could potentially look like in our backyard. He was very helpful. I had some big issues during the entire build, though. Everything from the moment that the design was approved to the 28 odd weeks to finish the pool, when I was told it would take about 12, it was torture. They still owe me a bunch of things because of how poorly it went.
They screwed up on the permitting. I said that based on Marlboro regulations, I need to have a fence around it. They were like, “No, you’re fine.” I said, “The fences on the sides, they’re not my fences, they’re my neighbor's.” So they put in the permit but they were like, “You don't need it, you've got fences on the sides.” Every time I called to ask, “What's the status of my permit?” Anthony & Sylvan said, “They're just processing it.” I came to find out when I called the town that they just put it in the drawer because it was resubmitted with the wrong paperwork and Anthony & Sylvan never followed up. I had called them multiple times. I was extremely dissatisfied with the lack of communication.
I had issues with delays in the estimation for another week because at that point, they were starting to get busy. They kept on pushing me back. And failed electrical inspection too. With the workmanship, it’s really poor. I had to have them redo the entire tile because when they put it on, they were about to start doing the layer on the inside over the concrete. The tiles were also already falling off. There are 15 tiles now laying on the floor in the pool that has fallen off already. I also already have cracks in my concrete patio that they have to fix. It was terrible. The pool is great because it’s a great recreation thing, but the patio is not gonna last a few more years ‘cause it's already crumbling in some spots and it's a year old.

My experience with Anthony & Sylvan took a lot longer than what was projected and there were a few hiccups along the way, but it was okay. Their rep was good and did a good job. The installation was where we ran into some problems. Everything got resolved, and we're happy with it. The pool was relatively expensive, but we decided to go with somebody who had done it for longer. So, it came up a bit. Anthony & Sylvan could improve on their communication. Sometimes, it's very hard to get ahold of anybody over there.

I was out shopping a few different companies for pools. I had a very unique situation with my pool. I wanted to have a boulder waterfall, and I wanted the boulders recessed down into my pool. My landscaper had this done at his property. I went out, looked at it, and loved it. I asked him who did his pool and he said it was Anthony & Sylvan. So between the both of them, they work very well together. Anthony & Sylvan was able to build me something that doesn't even look like a pool. It looks more like a small pond lake with boulders, which most companies wouldn't have done. It's ultra-custom. They built a nice pool.
The real value in this was that they worked closely with my landscaper. So their capabilities and abilities to work with my guy and give it that look. Most of their contractors do poured concrete but I ended up going with pavers. So it was very important. If they didn't work with my landscaper that did all the hardscape for me, then we wouldn't have done anything because I turned down another two companies that looked at it. They wanted to do it their way and it wasn't quite the way I was looking for.
The pool has about a good 20-foot waterfall from right to left. The way the boulders are sat down is that they're not stopped at the beam. If you look at most aboveground pools, the boulders will sit on top of the coping. So you still have your tile and you'll have your water coming through the tile, then there's a gap and then you'll have your boulders. What we did is we actually notched it out and we sunk the boulders into the pool. We also used a product that Anthony & Sylvan offered, which I liked. It was a pebble finish. So between the dark bottom pool and the pebble finish, those things worked out well. When Anthony & Sylvan came to the house, they only offered a very small selection of tile options for the coping. I ended up bringing in my own tile and they used their contractors to install my tile. So they were very flexible. It was another nice thing that they offered.
Harold was the project manager and he was very good at what he did. But he was spread thin. There were lots of cool projects going on and it was difficult at times to coordinate. But other than that, it was not an Anthony & Sylvan issue. It's an issue in general when it comes to subcontractors. I'm not a big fan of them. There were a few issues that happened that we had to come back and have fixed. If Anthony & Sylvan owned their staff and their could train them and they work solely for them, then they'd have more control over the situation. But given with what they've got to work with, it worked out okay. Overall, anyone that I've talked to that's had a pool ran into the same situation.
I asked for an IceBreaker heat pump, one that would cool down when it got too hot or would heat up when it was too cold. It was something almost like an automatic thermostat and a pump. It can do either thing. So we ended up going that route. When I got the unit, it only heated. It didn't cool. When you have a dark bottom pool and you go through a heat spell, that water could end up creeping up into the 90s. Now it's a bathtub and it's not a pool anymore.
I ended up going out to the unit. I called up the manufacturer and they told me to read off the VIN number. I read off the VIN number to him and he said the reason that didn't do that was that they installed the wrong heat pump. Not only did they install the wrong heat pump, they installed the wrong size heat pump. Even if they would have gave me the original heat pump, it was supposed to be larger. Anthony & Sylvan did stand by their word and they came out and fixed the problem. But at the end of the day, they need to have somebody really checking to see what the contractors are putting in and what they're taking out and what they're installing.
One of the biggest things that I was disappointed with the whole project was the salesperson that came out. He was an order taker. Anybody can be an order taker. We had about 90 grand into just the shell and the pump and a few things. It was definitely double the average of your typical family, backyard pool. I had to constantly pull things out of him. When we decided that we wanted to do the waterfall, he said that we were not gonna be able to run it very often because of evaporation. But that was crazy to me. I told him one of the things I love is hearing water in the background. I asked him if they made something that would be like an autofill. He said, "Yeah, that would be called an autofill system." I told him I'd rather run my waterfall when I wanna run my waterfall and have my pool filled when it automatically fill. So I told him to sign me up for that.
He said that we also have to make sure to keep our pool from becoming overflowed. So we have to drain water out at times. That sounded crazy so I asked him if they do something to make the water drain off the pool when it gets too high. He said, "Yeah." I asked him what would that cost me. He said nothing. He said in the skimmer boxes, there was a punch-out hole and I just have to have a plumber run my punch-out hole to allow the water to drain out to somewhere else. So I told him to do that too. So I felt like at every corner, I had to know what I was talking about. I had to ask for things. Luckily, I did my research. Because if I didn't do my research, I wouldn't know to ask for things and I would have had a waterfall I couldn't use and I would have had a pool that I would have had to empty when it rained too much.
If I were at Anthony & Sylvan's Pool, I would certainly have better trained salespeople. Because at the end of the day, there's nothing worse than spending 100 grand and finding out that you missed things. Then these are things that are too costly to add later on, and they end up not doing it and you have got something. I like to get all the options. I'd rather them come back to me and say it's 150 grand but then I could say we could do things to trim it back. Don't sell me something for 60 grand and I could put $30,000 extras in.
We were going through a expansion of the house at that time and they tried to figure out the elevation of the pool. The sales guy was given our plans and knew what we were gonna do. But when he ended up determining the elevation of the pool, he got it wrong. We have a deck below with tile, and if rain does happen to get in there, instead of it flowing out of our house, it will go towards our house because the elevation of the pool was so high that they couldn't get the slope that they needed when the tile guys and everybody else came out to do their work. That sales guy really needs to know what he's doing inside and out. They need some better training in that department, or at least with the guy I work with. If he doesn't know what he's doing, he needs to talk to some engineers that do know what they're doing. I was able to fix the problem. I had to put drains in and I had to do different things to fix the issue.
Overall, I'm happy with Anthony & Sylvan. It's a solid company. One of the reasons I like them is their longevity. In today's day and age with the economy and all the weird stuff going on out there, you never know how long somebody's gonna be around. But they've been around a while. Also, warranties are important. You want someone to be able to be there. I've got a beautiful pool. Everyone that comes by and sees it say it's probably one of the most beautiful pools they've seen. At the end of the day, they were capable and at least they surrounded themselves with people that were capable to do the things I needed done.

My parents had two Anthony & Sylvan pools so I had experience with them growing up. It was a no-brainer for me to get their pool as well. I had some specific wants with the design so we had to meet with our salesperson several times to get the pool the way we wanted it. We had to work through the process and we also had a budget. That took a little bit of time. But after we figured out what we wanted, it was pretty smooth. We had some bumps building the pool and some things took a little bit of time to fix. It wasn't perfect by any stretch but in the end, we're very happy. The process took about 12 weeks.
In general, the main supervisor did a good job but there were a couple of times where we had questions and the communication wasn't great. We had a big problem after our pool was completed. There was a leak in it. They didn't believe us at first and that was a problem. They wanted to charge us an obscene amount of money to come out if we were wrong. We got involved with somebody higher up and said that the pool is two weeks old and there's something wrong with it. The supervisor finally came out and the leak was taken care of. Overall, there will be good things and bad things going through the process of having apool. There are gonna be days that you will be frustrated. But in the end, you'll love the pool and you'll forget all that stuff. It's just like building a house.

Anthony & Sylvan did a good job. I like them. They always answered me. I had some hiccups here and there. There wasn't a lot of communication in trying to schedule things. I had to call a lot. A pool is not something people do every day. So nobody usually is gonna know that they've got it together and they know what's going on. The communication dragged a little bit. The project manager didn't come by here as often as he should have. They kinda spread them a little thin over the territory. But the job ended up well and they did everything they said they would do. They always returned my phone calls, whether they wanted to or not. I love my pool. I love that it's a concrete pool. A lot of people don't have that. I love that I did a sun deck. I love the design of it. It's like a little oasis.
I had an incident one night and I called about something leaking or a crack in one of the baskets in the free-form part. They showed up at 9:00 that night, and it was dark. My daughter lives downstairs, and she has two Boxers and they're not gonna be nice to some stranger in the backyard. So we had a little hiccup with that. They didn't announce it or call or knock on the door. They just came in the backyard and fixed it. It was fortunate that it worked out.

We own a nail salon and we have a lot of customers coming in who have pools. So, when we decided to build a pool, we asked around for their recommendations. Some of the customers preferred some other builder who was a little cheaper than Anthony & Sylvan Pools but a couple of them who could afford more, said that their pool was a lot better compared with some other builders. So, because the pool they build is of different quality, we went with Anthony & Sylvan.
Aside from that, when I called to have a meeting with the engineer who helped me to get the drawing for the pool, he got me into dealing with them because he was very professional and he knew what he was doing. He was awesome. I told him what we liked and what we were looking for. Then, he came back with the drawing and surprisingly, his drawing was already 80% of whatever I liked. So, the 20% was what I wanted in additional to that. I was really impressed. But it was a little hard to call them about the scheduling and they said it was because they were very busy. Despite that, everybody was great and the product manager was also very nice.
All in all, Anthony & Sylvan was amazing. We like the lining of our pool and the inside is a little different with some other pool builder. My friend built a pool too, and it's just a regular one. But Anthony & Sylvan used a different one which was the quartz. And the way they designed the pool is fit for my backyard. It has been two years since they built the pool for us and we still like it. It's worth every penny. Even though we had some other offer from some other pool company and we would have liked 20% about them, we'd still choose Anthony & Sylvan Pools because they did a really great job. Even my parents who are not the type of people who'd spend the money on a pool are really happy when they look at the pool that Anthony & Sylvan built for us.
When you build a pool, it's not something that you can change. So, don't try to save a couple of thousand dollars, then you're gonna get headache. You need someone that’s taking care of everything for you. It's not easy to get the pool and you have to do the permit and everything based on the percentage of your land. My friend who built a pool with some other company had problem a year later. So, I would rather spend a couple more thousand dollars and get what I want which is something that I don't have to worry about later.

The design of the pool was very nice and the pool itself was well built and well planned. Anthony & Sylvan was able to accommodate the location of the pool to where I wanted it in the backyard. Some other builders initially told me I couldn't do it in the location that I wanted. Scheduling the time for the team to come out went very well and I had no problems at all. It took six months to complete the pool because it was wintertime and it was a little harder.

We've been living in our home for seven years and our two boys were at the age where they can swim on their own. A pool would be a great purchase for the home or for the family. We looked up Anthony & Sylvan on the web and at the time, they offered the best warranty as far as the equipment and pumps . The whole family walked into the store and said we wanted to do a pool. We got whoever was next up. The guy’s design philosophies were poor. We told him what we wanted and he kept trying to tell us what we should do. We went back and forth. Dealing with the designer wasn't the best and as we got into the construction process, it got worse on the communication and appointments.
Anthony & Sylvan was very nonresponsive, had bad scheduling and a lot of surprise costs. They were not thorough in the very beginning. With the building process, when something goes wrong, it's hard to get them to come out to fix things. They tear out your landscaping and they don't let you know about those things. Our pool was wired wrong. We have two electrical boxes instead of one. There are different multiple things that I would just tell people that I wouldn't recommend them at all. I've had the project manager call me numerous times to rate him a better rate for his commission and I refused. There are multiple contractors but there should be somebody that has a better grip on what's going on.
The pool that we got is about 30 feet long. It’s 12 to 15 feet wide. It's a pool spa in-ground combination. It has a one-pump heater and six jets in the spa. It's got lights and it has a small kid deck area. It has the newer pool cement on the pool deck. The automated system that we can use on the phone is my favorite feature. When you're out and about, you can get on your phone. There's an app and you can start to heat the Jacuzzi. So when you get home, it's already warm. The kids enjoy the pool but my experience with Anthony & Sylvan was very poor. I would never use them again.

Everything went very poorly with Anthony & Sylvan and we do not recommend them as a pool builder. It took years off our life. We understand that people make mistakes, but we had a horrible project manager who didn't communicate and he didn't check anything. So, we would come home from work every day and find some mistakes like they put a tanning thing in it instead of a beach entry and they built it too close to the house and they dug too deep. There were tons of stuff but we’re reasonable people and they can fix it. Still, it was torture to get anything fixed. They were not detail-oriented at all, which is not good when you're building a $100,000 pool.
When we talked to the project manager about these issues continuously, he told us that we micromanage things. He said he would’ve caught the issues eventually. But that would’ve cost Anthony & Sylvan hundreds of thousands of dollars to fix these issues because that's how much it would've cost to redo an entire rock wall. Fortunately, we caught it at the beginning stages of it. The guy wasn't smart. We asked him if he went through project management training and he said no. He said he was just quality control, which was even more of a joke. The whole thing was bad. When we complained and tried to escalate it and get somebody qualified, it went nowhere. So we sent it to a CEO because we were so desperate for someone to fix things and he never responded or acknowledged the letter. Nothing got resolved through that means.
The only person who helped us was our sales guy but he can't do it all. He did the initial sale but after that, it's not supposed to be him anymore. We had a spa, a fire pit and a waterfall, and our sales guy told us that they general contract everything and we should not worry about anything. Also, we would not have to do anything. But that was not true. We had to schedule everything. We had to say that the fence goes in on this day and ask when the fire pit was gonna be done and when was the plumbing done. They forgot to call the trench people, and they have to be done filling in the dirt before these people can come.
That was our life from January until it was done at the very beginning of May. The scheduling was terrible. If we didn't do it, things got screwed up and weeks and weeks would go by, and we would call and they would say that they thought that this and this happened. Their project manager comes by, takes a picture on his cellphone, emails it and that's all he does. We've had a lot of people ask us for recommendations because we live on a corner lot in a desirable neighborhood and we have not been able to recommend Anthony & Sylvan at all.

The pool is rectangular and it has a large sundeck and a waterfall. It’s light blue and it’s beautiful. The grandkids love the sundeck the most. We had a problem at the end when the reps sprayed the concrete for the pool. They got it all over the back of our house. They didn't put the tarp up and we have a stucco house, so I can't repaint it. It was all on my windows. We had to beg them to come out and clean up. They came out and cleaned the windows but it's still on my stucco. It's a brand-new house and I'm not happy about that.

I had an Anthony & Sylvan pool at my old house that came with the house. I always had good things, so I went with them and then, the price was right. Everything was included and there were no hidden fees. Jim was good with design and he is probably the best aspect about Anthony & Sylvan. After I got done with design with Jim, it quickly went downhill.
Getting in touch with the project manager was bad. It was a disaster with their scheduling department. You have a guy work on your pool one day and then you wouldn’t see anybody else there for three weeks. I’m a construction worker and if I scheduled my jobs like that, I would be thrown off the site. Besides that, they lost two of my cashier's checks, both of them for roughly about $30,000. I got the first one reimbursed within two weeks but I had a hard time with the other one. I had to wait 30 days for that one to get released. The design and sales went very well though and I have recommended Anthony & Sylvan to several of my friends, and they are moving forward with a couple of pools.

This is the third pool I've had Anthony & Sylvan put in my home. We did one in California and two here in Charlotte. We had an old pool that was having problems and the gentleman came in from Anthony & Sylvan. He did our last pool. We knew what we wanted and he knew what we wanted too. It was all about finagling the price. On Thursday, we got four inches of rain and on Friday, the demolition guide came in from the front yard and he destroyed our lawn. He took the old pool out and destroyed it too. It's an absolute disaster still to this day. You got rock, stone, and old pieces of the pool still in there. They were meant to come back and grating sieve it and make it nice. But they haven't done that.
We had the pool built about a year and a half ago. There has been no communication and no one has ever come by and asked if I was happy with the pool. There was no final inspection. They gave me a price and came on in. They had to put more rock on the backside and they tried to get me for an extra $1,000 or else they weren't gonna put it. I gave them five weeks and got $500 for it. I got that refunded because we complained to Brian. I put a gas line in and we agreed with the foreman where to put it. We came back the next day and they put it across our septic tank, across our lead line and tore up the grass.
I love that the pool is done now but I’m not happy with Anthony & Sylvan. The only good person that I dealt with was the actual designer. He was awesome but everyone else was an absolute nightmare. They made a lot of promises and they didn't keep it. My pool was meant to be 5'11" tall and it's 6' 8". So, that's a huge problem. They don't give a hoot so it's a little frustrating. There are a lot of other issues and lack of communication. So it’s a very disappointing experience.

Anthony & Sylvan has already put in two pools for me and this is the third one that they've done for me. They were fine at the beginning. The dig, the rebar and the plumbing went well. But I almost didn't build the third pool with them. I went with somebody else and then, I came back. The person I talked to gave me a good deal so I gave them another shot. Everything upfront, all three went great when it came to putting the concrete in, doing the tile work and finishing the fence. That one area when they get past the gunite and start getting to those next sections is where the communication always seems to break down. That seems to be a bad problem with Anthony and it’s always a weak spot.
When the reps tell me they're gonna be here on Tuesday or Wednesday, I expect them to be here on Tuesday or Wednesday. And then when Tuesday and Wednesday comes and they're not there, I have to call them and that bothered me. They could've told me ahead of time that they were not gonna be able to make it tomorrow because they got behind on the last job. But they didn't do that, which was my biggest complaint. Still, I'd recommend Anthony & Sylvan. They use good products and seem to be using good contractors. They do a good job with the layout and they’re easy to negotiate with as far as you want changes. There were no big dollar problems with the couple of changes we made.

I had an inground pool installed. Over the first couple years the ground settled on the backside of my pool. Anthony & Sylvan would repair at a very high cost even though they should’ve fixed it as a warranty but I was told the extra concrete was subcontracted. It caused the pool to deteriorate over the years and now I’m going to have to basically pay for full renovation. The pool is only 15 years old. Make sure you have it in writing when you sign a contract for the pool to include ground settlement by excavators and concrete subcontractors to avoid my high cost renovation.

I spent many months reviewing pool construction companies in the North Houston Area and narrowed down the selection to 3 companies for the bid process. We were impressed with the design of the pool that A&S came up with and liked the warranty and equipment/processes they sold me on. We went with a 22,000 gallon custom pool that cost a little over 90K for the pool and decking, no landscaping.
They are very detailed in the contract as were all the other companies. They are very specific about any changes the customer makes and how it can affect the pool schedule. However, there are always unforeseen excuses on their end when the schedule is not met due to an issue with their contractor or communication with their contractor. The project manager was also adamant that he only works from Mon-Fri, 8:00am to 5:00pm. Any communication outside of that time frame would be dealt with during the next business day. The issue with that is most of their subs work weekends and early/late hours. I ended up managing their subs more than the project manager. I could not change anything, but I had the power to stop them before they did something incorrect - countless times. I have no idea how clients that are not well versed in construction and local standards deal with them.
The biggest complaint is you have to pay the last installment before they finish powering up your equipment and much less knocking any punch list out. I'm 10 months past the fill date and still have several open items that I can not get anyone to return my call. I've sent several emails and phone calls to the construction manager, Joe **, online warranty claims and emails to the Houston area manager, DeMarus **; no response from either 3.
PAY VERY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE MASTER PLAN. It is the most important piece of paper in the deal. You can use the contract for toilet paper (during COVID-19, it's more valuable as TP) as it means nothing to them. All of their subs use the Master Plan. The subs come to the job site (your project manager will never be there when they show up) and only do the work according to the master plan. If you can't speak Spanish, find a neighbor that can. If you made a contract change, it's meaningless to them. MAKE SURE YOUR PROJECT MANAGER UPDATES THE MASTER PLAN WITH ANYTHING YOU AGREE TO. Some of the subs are good, some don't belong on your property. I'm having to pay another company to finish the punch list.

He answered all of my many questions on how to navigate this new pool (being a first time pool owner) and gave me many different ways to perform multiple tasks. He made the job feel much less overwhelming. Before leaving he made sure I was clear on all of my questions and gave me resources for any future questions I may have! Overall a great, informative and thorough experience!

Anthony & Sylvan is very good and when we call them with questions, they put us through to somebody that knows what the answer is. We used them for the opening and closing of the pool and everything was fine. My husband did the scheduling online and then we got a call for confirmation. They are usually on time when they say they're gonna get here. Putting the pool cover on was a little bit of a hassle. So next year, we're gonna let them do it.

Anthony & Sylvan did the work on our pool two years ago but the pool is 20 years old. They remodeled the whole thing. We did the coping and we plastered the whole thing. I like that it looks clean now. We used to have tiles break. Now, it looks really good. Everything about the experience was good too. The scheduling and the guys who worked on the pool were good. There's usually something that goes wrong but Anthony & Sylvan was good. It was a flawless project.

We opened and closed this year with Anthony & Sylvan. We felt, both in the opening and the closing, that the people that came out were thorough. They answered lots of questions, they were very pleasant and willing to do so. They were efficient and quick, too. They didn't hold us and our day up too long. They came in, they knew what they were doing, they got it done, and they were in and out in a relatively short amount of time. I was very satisfied.
We also go into the store weekly during the season and have our water tested. The previous owners of our house had used Anthony & Sylvan and highly recommended them, so we continued. And they had installed it just a few years back, so we liked that they were familiar with the system. It was our first year owning this house and we're new to pool ownership, so they were patient with our three thousand million questions. They were very patient and answered, whether it was via phone, in store, or the text that they sent out for opening and closing. Everybody that we've met has been very patient and willing to educate us.
A girl named Katie came and she got her part of the job done, then she played with our dogs for a few minutes to keep them out of the hair of the other guy and my husband who were talking. So she kinda babysit our dogs for a few minutes because I was out of the house. They were very genuinely kind, caring people, and they made sure we knew what we were doing before they left.
When the guys came out to open the pool, that was such a busy season for them. And since we took later ownership of the house late in spring, they squeezed us in, which was wonderful, because we wanted it open before Memorial Day. So those guys came. They didn't have a whole lot of time, but they recommended to us that we call and they would send somebody else out to spend a little more time with us, which we did. I called someone in the office and she's been the one I've been dealing with, and I said, "You know, these guys suggested that maybe after your busy season was really over, you'd be willing to send somebody out that would spend like an hour with us to go over the system." And she's, "Oh yeah, sure. Not a problem."
She scheduled it right in and they came out. Then we were more prepared. We had a little knowledge under our belts and someone came out and spent like an hour to make sure we were doing things right and we weren't gonna damage our system. They were making sure that as new pool owners that we have the tools and the information resources that we needed. And if they couldn't provide it, they knew who could and got us to the right people.

We absolutely love our free-form Anthony & Sylvan pool. We chose them mainly because of their lifetime warranty. They did a fantastic job and the whole experience was absolutely wonderful. It was really strange though because all our neighbors are having all these bad experiences and it scared us about getting a pool, but ours was perfect. I did call them because the breakers kept popping and they took care of that. They sent the electricians back out, replaced the part and we haven’t had a problem since.
The salesperson did a fantastic job. He listened to what we wanted and he designed the pool really nice. Our tanning ledge is one of our favorite things, but my husband likes the color choice of the Pebble Tec and how it keeps with the pool. It looks beautiful. Our project manager, Roberto, came out and laid the plan all out on the ground with us. He walked us through every step of the way and he was there all the time checking on it. Our scheduling team was fantastic too. Michelle would always send me an email every week, on Saturdays, to tell me what the next step was. And that communication was fantastic. I absolutely loved it. Our pool is a nice family relaxation activity. And so, the whole family enjoy it.

The reps came around the first day and told us what they were gonna do. After the pool was drained, they started and took out all the old plaster around the tile. We got some rain the next day, but they set up a big tent, covered the whole thing and continued their work. They were very efficient, professional and cleaned up. They did the whole thing in three days and we’re very happy with it. We had it closed about two weeks ago and everybody who has seen it said it’s very nice.

Anthony built our pool in '92, but that was before they became Anthony & Sylvan. They were just Anthony then. After that, we managed it ourselves and then we got other pool service, which we were very unhappy with. We went to Anthony & Sylvan when they merged and they've been doing our pool for close to 15 years now. So far, everything is doing fine. My only problem is they never put anything away. They used to always move things and they don't move things anymore. But that's okay. I'll get the filter moved in that pool house and all the extra stuff that's here. They closed it, but it's fine.
Anthony & Sylvan reps are very responsive. We send them an email or a phone call if there’s a problem and it gets answered or handled right away. They are very prompt. We got a pool built through Anthony & Sylvan and everything's going very well. There was a little bit of shifting, but they paid for the issue, so we’re happy with that response. In general, everything has been really good with the pool. I liked Anthony & Sylvan’s price. It was the second lowest, and their design was the best. So between price and design, they were the best choice.
Our pool cost about $95,000 or so. It’s built on a slope, so a lot of it had to be built above the ground. I knew that was not a very usual design for them. It’s about 37 ft. long, 14 ft. wide and 6 ft. deep at the deepest part. It’s got a sun shelf and a few fountains, and has a spa that’s right next to it. It’s very inviting. When we open the door, it’s right there in our backyard. It also sounds very relaxing because of the waterfall feature. It hasn’t really had any major issues. So it’s been low in maintenance, so far.
It was kind of tough because we had a very, very difficult pool to install. We had a change in project manager partway through the project, because it took about a year to build this thing. But everyone cared. It’s very obvious that they care about the quality. They were all professional. And I don’t think anything occurred that we were unhappy with. We have kids in the house, and it’s nice that they can easily go to the pool. It’s just like having a vacation right at your backyard whenever you want to.

Anthony & Sylvan had built pools for my family in the past and this would be our third pool as a family. We got a raised bond beam model with waterfalls, all those nice Tennessee stacked stones and exposed wall on the bottom side with the Tennessee stacked stone, a pool concrete deck. I like the design. It turned out perfect for our backyard. We had elevation challenges in the back with the downslope, and we were able to incorporate some of the aesthetic features of the pool in to help us with that slope. It turned out really nice. Ray, our project manager, was really heavily engaged early on to kinda get the project started and get us up to speed of how it would go.
Brian did a good job of where they would help and where we needed to figure things out. They were building the pool, so there was a lot of interaction with us, and they had contractors that we needed. And then the scheduling team did an okay job. They would give me a day or two notice of when contractors would come out. We needed to re-tile. The pool light isn’t working right now in one of the receptacles. But other than that, everything went really well. I'm really happy to use the pool. I would definitely recommend them. We’ve had the new pool all summer, so we’ve really been able to enjoy the summer a little more than normal. If it’s hot out, we’d still be outside with the family. The pool really opened up more opportunities to spend with family and friends.

This is the house I've lived in since I was a kid so the pool was originally put in in 1989. It was an Anthony pool and from 1989 to now, this was the only time we had to put any type of money into the pool for a substantial renovation, new coping or filtration – anything other than normal wear and tear. So doing the math on how old this pool is, we won't have to do anything else for the rest of our lives on it. The key to that is keeping up on the chemistry of the pool water. We have a chlorine pool. It's also a testament to the quality of an Anthony pool to have to do one major renovation in 30 years. If you get a liner pool, you're putting a new liner in every 10 years if you're lucky.
The pool was great for 20-something years but it needed some rehab work and some updating. Since Anthony & Sylvan was the one that installed it, why would I go with anyone else other than the people that installed the pool? I stuck with the best. We did a full renovation with new plaster, new tile and new coping in the spring of 2018.
They remodeled the whole surface of the pool, which was plaster or gunite. Along the top of the pool, the top waterline is tile and they redid all the tile work. They also redid the ledge, the coping, and put in a new Deck-O seal, which is the gap in between the concrete patio and the actual ledge of the pool. There is a couple of quarters of an inch gap that you fill in with a material that prevents water from seeping in and then freezing. The surface is white plaster and it's beautiful to the eye. The tiles are a really nice blue with a beige accent and the ledge is Travertine. So it is a brand-new pool with those renovations and it's very aesthetically pleasing. It's also very comfortable when you're in the pool on your feet.
From the sales team on my initial consultation to the renovation experts who came out and to the project manager, everyone was efficient and professional. They went above and beyond to ensure that I was satisfied, comfortable and knowledgeable about how the pool works and how to keep it the way it needs to be. Other than the initial salesman, there was the scheduling team for different aspects of the renovation or coming for measurements and they were all very professional as well. They were very good from the beginning.
Once Anthony & Sylvan started work, they had the different crews show up to do the demolition and to do the work. They were very professional and quick to do what they had to do. On one of the days, I wasn't even there. They just did what they had to do and when I came home, it was done. Joe, the project manager, was also always on the phone with me and always available if I had a question. He demonstrated to me what I needed to do for two weeks straight before the pool was ready to be swam in.
The job routine was smooth and they finished the pool right before Memorial Day. We were basically all set to have the pool swim-ready for Memorial Day. But that weekend, we had an incredible amount of rain, which caused a run-off situation from a neighboring property and flooded out our pool with mud and sediments. It turned my pool into a swamp so I called Joe. He lives not too far and he came over to my house on a Sunday, on Memorial Day weekend, to help me remedy the situation before it got worse. He coached me on what I needed to do, what chemicals I needed to buy and how to use them. He helped me fix the situation by lowering the water level and then he helped me clean it up with a flocking agent. He didn't have to do that on a Sunday. He just went above and beyond. He came over a couple of times to help out and that says a lot of Joe and the company. A week later, we were swimming in the pool.
It happened again towards the end of the summer with another storm. It was ridiculous. But I had that situation remedied with the property line and everything is great. With this type of pool, there's a lot of beginning maintenance that you have to do and you have to do it correctly. Owning a pool is not just turn on the filter and turn it off. You have to know what you're doing. You have to understand the chemicals, what things are doing and why they're doing it. There's definitely a level of customer education that is very important and these guys did that. Having gone through the summer that I did with those two events, I feel a lot more confident now in handling the pool by myself, which is important. And that was due not just to Joe but the guys in the store in Monmouth in New Jersey. They were very helpful as well.
When you have a brand-new 30,000 gallon white plaster pool that is filled with sediment and dirt from a torrential rain event, you would think that would cost thousands of dollars to clean up. But the folks in the store helped me troubleshoot what would be the best way to tackle the problem. With their help, it cost 20 bucks for one bottle of solution and then me just doing what I had to do to clean it up through the filter. So other than a week's worth of paying attention to the pool and $20, a nightmare was averted and that was due to their assistance. So far, the plaster looks good. Everything looks good. We love the pool. It is a great product and Anthony's guys were great. I couldn't be happier. We enjoy the hell out of the pool. We've used it pool pretty much everyday. It's awesome. We have a lot of people over.

There was a kind of a blotch about the size of a basketball in the deep-end. A guy came down right after we opened in the spring, and he had something he threw and spread on it in the area and it didn't really remove it. He asked if we wanted to have a diver come in to take a look at it, to follow up, and we kinda thought that there's a three-year guarantee so we're gonna sit and wait. The blotch has faded from the sun, the chlorine and what he threw on there this year, so we are gonna take a look at it when we open next spring. Other than that, we were thrilled with the renovated pool. The people who are here on a regular basis see obviously a huge difference in the coping, the tile, the color and the texture of the pool. We’re very happy and we vacuum maybe every once a week. It required a little work.
Sylvan Pools built the pool and we took residence in it 28 years ago. We were moving from Northern Delaware to Southern Delaware. We just walked in there one day and happened to get off with a guy, and he came down the house and did some drawings and off we went. As the pool got older, it required more and more work. They renovated the entire pool, the coping and the tiles. They put on the new surface on the pool. The pool is kinda the centerpiece of the backyard and its color jumps out at you. They actually brought the wrong-colored tile or coping, and the next morning, they were back and working, got it all straightened out, as opposed to other people who would just put it in there.
The renovation and design consultant was good. He came down and visited. He had all kinds of examples and colors. They would call up and say some of the guys were gonna be there the following day and would do this. They’ve called and asked how things were going. They’ve done that several times. I had a question about something and they sent a guy down when we opened this spring, and he was nice. The guys who built the pool, every step of the way, were really friendly and good. They did a nice job keeping it simple for us.

Our original pool built by their company is 27 years old. Thus far, it has been refinished and remodeled by Anthony & Sylvan twice. Recently, our renovations were for new mastic, plastic, and lighting. This past spring, they put in a new above filter and that has all been working well.
However, there's a small indentation in the plaster that is about a quarter of an inch or less with some white spotting around it. I scraped it by my finger and it doesn't seem to be any loose particles in there. Still, if I had some kind of underwater plaster cement or if Sylvan had an underwater tube that I could use, I could fix it myself. I could also do that when I close the pool down for the season. Despite this, everything was fine with our pool reno. I've told Hart that he's welcome to bring people to my place for potential customers to look at my pool.

Anthony & Sylvan had built a pool in our neighborhood and we saw the construction process while it was happening, and it looked like there was always someone working. So, we met with several different pool companies, Anthony & Sylvan being one of them, and they were the most professional and seemed to have the best handle on the process.
Our project manager was Ray, and he was wonderful. He was always available. If he couldn't answer when I called, he would call me back within the hour. We didn't know much about pool construction, and he explained the entire process from start to finish. He was always there to give answers. He even came out when something was of concern to us, and he would be here and personally address the issue. As far as the scheduling team goes, Patty was our scheduler and I don't know how she keeps it all straight, but she knows everything about everyone at every time and she was on the ball the entire process. I've never met a woman more organized in my entire life. She was wonderful. If the crew was delayed for whatever reason, she would call me before I even realized they were late when they were supposed to be here.
We have a free form granite pool with Peeble Tec. We are on an incline in our backyard, so they had to do some creative design to stand a significant elevation change from the front end to the back end of the pool. They also ended up doing the pool decking around the deck with retaining wall and all sorts of stuff. I cannot say enough good things about their construction team here in Charlotte. They were the most on-point and organized contractor group of any sort we have ever worked with.
We have three small children and we love the ability to have vacations in our backyard. We don't need to go anywhere, everything is here. We can have fun there, but we can entertain. The pool is also beautiful to look at. It's right off of our master bedroom, so we can see it when we wake up in the morning. It has brought our backyard together. The whole thing is now with purpose, and we spend a lot more time outside than we did before. I feel like we have doubled our living space because we're now using a backyard that previously went mostly unused. And we're in the south, so we have beautiful weather for a long time every year.

I wanted a pool my whole life. When I did a Google search for pool builders, I came upon Anthony & Sylvan. They also interviewed somebody who recommended them to me. And aside from name recognition, I chose them because of their price. I got a free-form pool that has a spa and it’s raised a little. It’s got a water wall and sun shelf, and is about 17,000 gallons. I like the spa a lot and I like being in the water. Plus, it’s warm down here in Texas, so it's great to cool off and I'm in the pool five days a week. Anthony & Sylvan's reps were really good and I was happy with the project manager overall. The scheduling was very good, too. It seemed like there were some delays that were unnecessary, but I understand that happens during construction.
Other than that, I wasn’t real pleased with how a couple things turned out. I felt I was fought against doing things I knew I wanted and I should’ve pushed a little harder. I pushed on some of them and I got them, but some other things, I really regret not pushing harder. For instance, the sun shelf should’ve been deeper. We don’t ever use it, so I’ve got a huge area of the the pool that we never even sit on. The guy was telling me that I couldn't have it deeper because of the code and we have to have a certain step. However, we could have added a step around the edge and still have the sun shelf deeper. But he said that we wouldn't wanna be in it, we'd put our chairs in, and we'd stay out of the water. But I don’t wanna be out of the water. If I’m out of the water, I’ll be out of it. So, things like that were a little aggravating, especially now, looking back on it, it would’ve been so easy and it could’ve been so much more useful. But it's our first pool, so live and learn.

We designed the pool and it has an irregular shape. It has a hot tub, and a slide and a waterfall. It has Baja sun shelf. It has two benches, a couple of lights, and it has a two-foot raised bond beam with the spa raised above it, overflowing into the pool. This whole project was closely coordinated between several individuals. They kept you up to task as far as what was happening next. This project went from the fall into the next spring, so there was a period of hiatus there while the weather cleared, and the project went smoothly between each one of the phases. The pool has been great so far. The service they’ve provided has been great. Everything is good.

Anthony & Sylvan is prompt, courteous, and reliable. When we were getting the pool built, they held our hands throughout the whole process and made it easy for us. After that, we just chose their seasonal opening and closing service. We've also had them for equipment maintenance and they have come to service the pool a few times while we're out of town. The pool is closed and everything is great. We couldn't be happier with the pool.

We had a custom-made 20,050-gallon pool. It is Pebble Tec, the gunite look. And then we did all kind of natural stones to match the rest of our outdoor kitchen stuff. We have a diving board and a sundeck on it. The guys from Anthony & Sylvan were great to work with. Scheduling was every few weeks at a different stage of the pool. And I would generally talk to the project person once a week once we started. I had no problems throughout the whole process. The pool still looks crystal clean. I just went to the pool store, brought all the water sample, and everything’s spot-on. So, everything is thumbs up and working great.

We’ve always had an above-ground pool, so we decided to go with an in-ground pool. I've always seen Anthony & Sylvan all over the place, so I gave them a call. We had a good experience with them the first time we met, so we decided to go with them. Our project manager was Trevor and he was amazing. I love the new pool. It’s perfect. We have a sundeck and seats built into the pool in the deep end. There are two seats on each side, like a little loveseat. This year was the first year that we actually opened the pool for a full season, and we were in it every weekend. Any minute we were able to go into it, we were in it.

Anthony & Sylvan was recommended to us by a friend and they did the opening and closing for us. The reps seemed to be extremely knowledgeable and they were very quick. They were in and out and there were no problems. They showed us how to make sure that we take the water down and assess what's wrong. They were all cooperative and went out of their way to help us do the right things, give us good guidance and make us satisfied. Anthony & Sylvan did a great job and the experience was excellent. I hope they'll be back again next year.

My wife really started to want a pool two and a half years ago that we moved forward and decided to get one put in. A work colleague of my wife used Anthony & Sylvan Pools and he had been very happy. We got a 39-feet x 16-feet freeform pool. It has a hot tub that flows with a waterfall into the pool, and the interior is Pebble Tec. It’s an in-ground pool. It also has a sun shelf and then two benches you can sit on. It’s really beautiful.
The project manager was available at any time. I've texted him a couple of times after we finished the entire project with a couple of questions, and he made himself available. In the scheduling department, there were two people who we worked with there. They were unbelievable. One of the best parts of the experience was just how on top of it they were and they kept the whole process moving and kept us abreast of everything. So between the project management and the schedulers, they were great.
I'm an avid surfer and we live a couple of hours from the beach, so I love being in the water, and I get in the pool on a daily basis. I even do like a polar plunge each day in the dead of winter just because it's a great pool and refreshing. We have a heater in it too. When we're having friends over, we crank the heat up and it’s definitely a great feature too. It also has the feature where you can lower the water and heat the spa by itself. We’re in Charlotte, North Carolina and it gets hot here. You can heat up pretty quickly, so when you get home, you can just hop in the pool. It’s nice to have.

We were very happy from the beginning of the project to the end. Now that Anthony & Sylvan Pools is doing openings and closings in my area, it's perfect. We have used them for pool opening, closing and replastering. I trust them to let me know if there’s a problem and to give me multiple options to find a solution. Moreover, the project manager and scheduling team have all been very professional and prompt. Overall, my experience with Anthony & Sylvan Pools has been very good and I would definitely recommend them to others.

There's an Anthony & Sylvan office close to my house, and we called and got a quote from them. We got a free-form pool and it has a spa. There was a little bit of a hassle trying to get the balances right. I got the order on how to put the chemicals in the first time you fill the pool up, and they accidentally wrote me orders for a 30,000 gallon pool instead of a 13,000 gallon pool. After I bought them and put them all in like the instructions said, I was really worried that I did some damage. But they assured me that there was no damage done. It just cost me a little bit of cash. After that, everything was great. Also, last week I started to have some problems where the hot tub drains down to the level of the pool because a valve was busted. I tightened all the valves and made sure everything is in the right spot. Overall we’ve been happy and we’ve been enjoying the pool. The kids have been in it just about every day over the summertime. I like the hot tub.

Anthony & Sylvan originally built this pool and along with their overall reputation, I figured it was best to get them for replastering the tile and the coping. It was a complete reno. The team who scheduled it kept in communication with me and it was seamless. They contacted me and told me whether it was the pressure testing crew or the plaster crew who was coming next. Then, they told me the date and time they would be there.
I like the aesthetics of the newly-renovated pool. I love the coping and the tile choices we picked out with the salesman. He was good and he had all the samples. He told us what would work, what wouldn't work with certain colors, and described when picking out the plastering. He went over the differences when the shade is on it and when the sun's on it. He also had photos of what it would look like. It was all positive and we kinda knew what we liked but we went in a little different direction than we originally thought we were going to due his recommendations. I had a little issue because I had to close yesterday but there was a little defect on the plaster. He called me and helped me out with what to do.

We moved back to my hometown and I heard Anthony & Sylvan was prevalent in this area. There were some glitches along the way when they were building the pool. Some of them were weather-related and they switched the project manager more than halfway into it, delaying the process. A lot of the communication was pretty difficult, from the people that were working on finishing the pool to all of the different subcontractors they had. That was a bit confusing ‘cause we had so many parts to go through and try to get some answers on that. Once they put the pool in, the communication dropped off and it was hard to reach a lot of the right people. So, I wasn’t so happy with that. But it was ironed out.
Part of the problem was that they had a supply store here and they have so many different branches that I was trying to get a local branch and there weren’t that was close by. But we're happy with the pool. I'm in it every day, enjoying it. We're able to have our private place to swim. We no longer have to go to public pools. The pool has a little waterfall, two jets that we added, and the LED lights that came with the package.

We got a freeform with a spa, and the project manager was here on a regular basis, inspecting the work and installation. We were talking to the schedulers and project management if things needed to be pushed out or pulled in, and it was all good. But I have been waiting for quite some time now to have a bubbler light replaced. They came out last week and they said they brought the wrong light and that they would come back soon. I haven't heard from them yet, but that's the only problem that I have had so far with the pool. We are enjoying the pool very much.

We had a great experience with Anthony & Sylvan. Everything was timely, we had weather on our side and we’ve been very, very pleased with the result. We had wanted a pool a year prior. We did local research for different pool companies and I selected Anthony & Sylvan because of their reputation and reviews, and based on the fact that they are well-spread throughout the United States. Their project manager, scheduling team and I had great communication and our interactions were easy. Everything went in a timely manner and everything was communicated. It was an ideal situation.
Our pool is an in-ground, custom pool, like an organic shape. It has natural elements with travertine decking surrounding it. It’s like a gunite surface with the Pebble Tec finish and you get to select the color of the water. You get to select how you want your water to appear, like a lagoon in the middle of the mountains or a tropical oasis, which is cool. And there’s a little spa as well. The salt water pool is my favorite because it's easy to take care of. Their light system is really cool too. It goes on a timer so you can switch the light in the pool and in the hot tub, which is fun. Our kids are only gonna be here for another six or seven years and I'd like to create new memories and swimming and family time, which was the main reason we did the pool.

In 1989, we went searching for a number of different companies. We were exploring putting in a pool and that was when the original pool went in. We were impressed with Sylvan and they were local. They did a great job. Then, when we were considering having to refurbish the pool, we opted to go back with them. We found the pricing reasonable and the service was impeccable. The pool renovation with Anthony & Sylvan went very well and I’m enjoying the pool. They did the plaster, the tile and the coping. I’ve recently worked with them also on getting a brand-new cover for the pool. That worked out very well but we’re still working with a different part of the system. We’re looking at trying to work with the decking maybe next year. So we’ve gone back now to using them to be the primary source on how to go and how to deal with these things. So, it has been a very great experience.
I originally worked with their salesman who came out multiple times to go through options, understanding selection and working through pricing. A recommendation they had done was to split the construction so we did part of it. We did the deconstruct in the fall of year prior to the last. Then we did the finish last year in May. It split the cost. I’ve worked with a number of different people in their construction office once it was turned over from sales to the implementation, and the interactions with the team were very good. They tried to make sure that everything fit. Like anything, there are always gonna be adjustments that have to be made but the rep was very quick to try and work with us to reschedule or do anything, depending upon whether it’ll be weather, or crew, or any issue that came up. It’s never 100% perfect and I wouldn’t expect it to be, only because of the nature of these things.
We had one minor issue with a leak and we worked with the construction manager. He was extremely responsive to getting that taken care of. He sent a diver to go into the pool, do the inspection and correction, and since then, I have not had an issue at all. It was taken care of almost as fast as you can imagine between sending somebody out, identifying it and taking care of it so I’ve been well pleased. It comes down to the same quality of construction and care, and it has kept me to not having to do a lot of work to maintain it. Overall, we’ve had no performance issues and I look forward to not having them again, and that this pool will last us, if not the 20 years, if I can take to another 30.

He was patient and willing to work with us, even though the process took quite a few months.

Since they built the pool, we went back to them automatically for them to refinish it. The coordination was fine. They did the beginning of it in the fall, and then they came back in the spring to do the plaster. They remodeled the coping, the tile and the finish. I like the waterfall they did. From the lady who scheduled to the confirmation to Keith doing all the work, I'm very satisfied. At one point, I wasn't gonna use Sylvan anymore and then the manager made it right, so I'm back to Sylvan. And I asked for Keith because he knows my pool and I liked the way he works, and I've never had a problem. So, they've been very accommodating. Keith opened it and closed it. He did a wonderful job. He checked to make sure that I had everything put where I requested, and I'm very happy.
As far as my 2019 experience, I was very happy. But in the past, it hasn't always been so great. Our pool is over 30 years old. They put it in when they were simply Sylvan, and Anthony was a separate company. In the beginning, we used to close it ourselves. And then, as we got older, my husband and I had them close it. We used to have a guy named Carlos and he was wonderful. Every time, we would always request Carlos, and he'd always come, and he'd always do a great job. But Carlos left Sylvan & Anthony and I had no idea why or where.
After that, the first guy that they sent out was Keith, who I was very happy with. But following that, I had a couple of other guys that I wasn't so happy with it. I didn't like the attitude of this one guy. But he did a fine job closing, so I had no real problem with his work. He came in late, he left, but he did the work. I also had somebody who did a terrible job, and the closing looked terrible. I had a lot of problems and then, Keith came out and did correct them. So I'm satisfied again.
Anthony & Sylvan always show up. My favorite thing is they send the technician that I've requested and that's very important. I scheduled the service for this year and the girl that I spoke with was wonderful. She scheduled it, and she knew that I like Keith to do the openings and closings. She made a note about it. She also gave me the time and date that I wanted. She was very pleasant, and she suggested a correct price for me. Anthony & Sylvan has opening and closing packages. In the past we always got the silver package, which included an open and close. This time, she suggested the gold package because it included the chemicals and it was cheaper to go with the gold package and have them bring the closing kit. So, she was great. I'm very happy with her. I've also talked to the manager and he has also been very accommodating.
The technician they've been sending out, Keith, is as nice as he can be. He's been doing it for a very long time, and he knows exactly what to do. If I had any questions on a part, he lets me know. If I need some parts, he goes and gets them. Before he leaves, he goes over the checklist with me and he lets me walk around with him to make sure that everything is put back where I requested that it be. And if it's not, he just moves it in the right place. So I'm very satisfied. Every time he opened or closed, the work has been done very well. Keith has another guy that comes with him and he is very good too.

We paid over $23K to have Anthony & Sylvan do the renovation on our pool. We selected Onyx finish for the plaster as we loved the color. On the demolition they missed a spot and a bubble appeared which meant the new plaster didn't adhere to the gunite. When attempting to fix it they created an indentation in the wall which we believe will compromise the plaster. Then for a reason they can't explain the crew added significant amount of acid which changed the color of the Onyx. We paid $4K for the upgraded plaster.
We had 3 different representatives from Anthony Sylvan inspect and agree the color was different due to the acid added to the pool. They also couldn't explain why the crew added it as that is not the normal procedure on new plaster jobs. In addition, they all saw the flaw in the wall which is now an indentation. Originally they said they would re-do the plaster and fix it. However, that changed and after months of a run around they said the color was correct and even though I had pictures of the pool before they added acid and after they added it, they denied there is an issue. I also provided pictures I was given of other pools with Onyx which clearly verified the color changed that didn't matter either. They also claim the indentation was deep enough to fix or compromise the plaster.
During this whole time the follow up was horrible as either they didn't respond to my communication or I had to make multiple attempts. I used Anthony & Sylvan because I felt they were a reputable company and would do quality work and stand behind their product. However, we had a terrible experience and found they don't stand behind their work. I would never recommend them and am completely dis-satisfied. The only representative that was good was the sales person who was very responsive and tried to help. However, they told him not to get involved as it was the renovation's responsibility. We spent a lot of money to be completely disappointed and left with the wrong color we paid for plus a wall with a flaw. I will seek legal action if possible. I would give them a zero if possible. F

We had our in home consultation on June 7th, 2019 with Cherokee from Anthony & Sylvan. About a week later we went to finalize our design and sign the contract. We were told that we could save thousands of dollars by demoing the area ourselves as well as buying the mosaics we wanted from another vendor to save money. I was given a list of to do’s before they can dig. By July 3rd, we had already finished clearing the yard and had the pool paid in full. I sent updated pictures and was told it looked great. On July 15th we were told that the scheduler would be calling to schedule our meet and greet with Cherokee and the project manager. By Monday July 29th we hadn’t heard anything so I sent a text to Cherokee asking why we haven’t heard anything. She responded Thursday, August 1st with a text saying that there was an issue with our paperwork so they had to redo it.
Tuesday, August 6th I received a text from Cherokee saying that we were finally approved for our dig and we would be scheduled the following week for our meet and greet. We didn’t hear from anyone until Thursday August 15th when Cherokee said that they would start digging the next morning after our meet and greet at 9am. An employee came to the house that morning at 7:30 am to map out the pool. Cherokee and Richard (a project manager that was filling in for Skye our project manager who was mia) showed up around 9 and we went overall the steps of the process and at the end they said the yard looked great and the digger would be here shortly. Well the digger never bothered to show up that day or Saturday or Sunday or Monday.
However, Skye (the mia project manager) showed up Monday, August 19th and said that we aren’t ready to dig at all because there are roots in the ground still (mind you this is a month and a half after we cleared the yard so yeah small weeds have grown in) and we don’t have proper drainage. This is the first I’m hearing about any drainage issues, no one even mentioned anything about drainage in the last 3 months so why is it an issue now when 2 days ago we were good to go? Now he wants me to cut my concrete about 4 inches off my concrete slabs from front to back which is about 30 ft before they’ll dig my pool because he said we won’t pass inspection. When I asked why I haven’t heard about this till now, his excuse was that Cherokee was new. Well that’s not my problem, that’s your problem. I didn’t hire her. I hired the company that is employing her.
So what about Richard, the fill in project manager? Is he new too? Then Skye tells me to call Cherokee to fix this mess and she’s texting me telling me to call Skye to fix it. She then tells me that all I have to do is put in drainage blocks in our back wall, which she says is super easy but if it was so easy she should come out and do it because I'm done. I’ve done everything I was told to do and got the green light to dig 2 days prior. It amazes me that a company that is supposedly number 1 sucks so much. Your company has wasted my time, energy and money.
After 3.5 months and thousands of dollars later, I’m left with a blue chalk outline of a pool. We want a full refund immediately so we can hire another company that will actually dig a hole and stop coming up with excuses as to why they can’t do it. I will make sure everyone I know never uses your company because you just don’t care about your customers or their needs. We just wanted a pool for our kids and now all that’s left is an empty backyard with an outline of a pool that never was. Thank you for ruining my kids summer and my hopes of having a safe place that they can enjoy with their friends for years to come.

In April of 2016 we contracted Anthony & Sylvan to replace the waterline tile around our in-ground pool. The cost was approximately $7,000. Upon opening our pool in May 2019 we found that tile had fallen off in 2 different spots, with 2 more distinct spots having tile that was very loose. Upon reaching out to A&S's Doylestown, PA office and providing photos of the areas in question, we were informed that our warranty had expired in April 2016 and that there was nothing that could be done. I have pursued multiple levels of management with the issue, only to be told the same thing.
The most helpful person that I spoke to was the first woman, who very kindly told me that she agreed 100% with my assessment that the condition of our tile after only 3 years was completely unacceptable. Unfortunately she was not an employee that had the authority to OK A&S doing something to remedy that. She escalated to management, who clearly did not intend to support her assessment. They did offer to replace the tile again for the "deeply discounted" cost of $4,500.
In my own research I have found the expected lifespan of waterline pool tile to be well longer than 3 years, and that spending over $11,000 in a 3 year period to replace this tile is completely unreasonable. I am pretty certain that Anthony & Sylvan subcontracted this tile work. I think that it's obvious that this work was completed with an EXTREMELY LOW level of quality, and Anthony & Sylvan shows zero inclination or interest in standing behind the work that their name is on. I have submitted a complaint to Anthony & Sylvan's general mailbox, in hopes that someone at their Corporate level will show more integrity than the folks in the Doylestown PA office have shown.
Thank you very much for sharing these concerns with us and we're so sorry to hear this. We've located your account and will be contacting you, shortly, to better understand your experience and to try to find a positive resolution to your concerns.

He made us feel very comfortable with choosing A&S. Second, the excavating... went great. They finished in record time, which was surprising for all the rock we had. Third... the rest of the pool build. This is where they severely lacked in customer service.
We were ill informed of the schedule. Their subs did not use the right forms for our decking. They used OSB instead of 2x6 so our edges of our decking are very wavy. No final inspection was done. And we are still waiting for final clean up. We ended up doing it ourselves. We are not impressed with the communication, which has disappeared after the water was in the pool. We are still waiting for them to correct some issues with the final product. Can we swim? Yes! Maybe that is what they rely on in lieu of a completely finished pool.

A lot of my friends told me they could find someone a lot cheaper for me. But that really didn't matter because I wanted a proper job done. All our interactions over the phone with Anthony & Sylvan were very professional and very courteous. Their secretary was very polite. She returned my phone calls immediately which I really liked. I was working when the pool guys came but did their thing.

This review of Anthony and Sylvan pools is to reflect Anthony and Sylvan pool sales, construction process and our experience in Severna Park, Maryland. Summary. The pool is not completed yet. I intended to wait until the end of the project to review, but our experience has been so disappointing, caused so much stress and so problematic, I'll re-post if anything improves. They started with five stars and four stars were gone before Anthony and Sylvan even dug the hole. So, I started with five stars again for the next project phase, all four gone before the next phase. So I started every single week with five stars, but most stars were gone before the fifth day and so on... At every opportunity I'll note when something was done correctly.
Anthony & Sylvan Pools sent us two pool sales proposals, got us to sign a contract based on that proposal pricing then switched a major feature out just before we were asked to sign the payment schedule. We caught the price feature change on our own. The price was written out and delivered to us in emails and separate proposals. Anthony & Sylvan Pools refused to honor the pricing.
Background. For several months, we spent countless hours interviewing pool companies and looking at pricing. We were about to sign with a different pool company when Anthony & Sylvan called back. They said to get our business, they would adjust their price to compete and earn our business. We were sent written proposals with pricing. As a result, we selected Anthony & Sylvan based on that proposal. Weeks later after completing design, pool layout, the meet and greet phases, and paying the down payment, we received the pre-construction contract. It was $9,950 more than the proposal we were sent, twice in two separate emails. But it did not have this cost listed.
Each email were described from the salesperson as "here is the proposal" and "here is the revised proposal." We noted a change of words in the material. And we added it up on our own. We asked why it was $9,950 more. Anthony & Sylvan said the proposal read "PAVER DECK" instead of concrete. The only reason we caught it was because we kept track of all the proposals from pool companies in spreadsheets and documented so we could make the best decision.
We said we specifically changed pool companies and signed with them because of the pricing on their updated proposal and I asked if there was anything that could be done to rectify the $9,950 switch out (bait and switch essentially). There was nothing offered. There was not even an apology. In fact he said, "I am late for another meeting." I later asked if Anthony and Sylvan pools could simply improve the scheduling or anything along those lines that is completely in their control. Response was, "we have too many projects going on right now and would not do that." He would not even pretend to try or ask. We had limited options as we had already signed with them and paid the down payment. They had cashed our check and would not refund the permit cost.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has multiple consumer protection laws that describe this scenario. One of their descriptions of Deceptive Advertising is "a representation, omission or practice that is likely to mislead the consumer" and "practices that have been found misleading or deceptive." There were several items identified on the Federal Trade Commission's website at - https://www.ftc.gov/
I fully understand that any home improvement project will have delays or various obstacles. It's expected. I expected it too. Anthony and Sylvan performed fairly major mistakes at nearly every single stage of the process. Many were completely avoidable through basic communication. We signed with Anthony & Sylvan thinking they were a premier pool company. This is very far from the case based on their treatment of our construction project.
Similar to other reviewers, prior to signing with Anthony & Sylvan Pools, all calls, emails, texts were answered instantly. Visits happened within hours. The same evening after we signed and gave them a check for the down payment, all communication stopped. Calls went unanswered, emails not responded to. One time I called from a different number they did not expect and picked up the phone right away.
As other reviews mention, during the meet and greet you are presented with a list of names and contact information. Also, you are informed that someone from Anthony & Sylvan pools will be present during the construction and if not, they will be there after each phase, they will inspect each crew's completed work before moving to the next. This is not true and did not occur. All excavation, plumbing and steel was completed and no one confirmed it is correct. I identified multiple construction mistakes and no one had showed up. They did not even leave the building permit on our property. I had to ask repeatedly for it over a couple weeks.
I made sure to be home while they did the gunite (pool concrete). The sub-contracted company was awesome. Toward the end of pouring the entire pool and as it's hardening, the foreman asked "Do you know what size this section should be?" He had to ask because they did not have the correct copy and had just poured the concrete for the entire pool with the wrong version. The project manager confirmed the wrong copy.
Every time we received a payment request (a bill), it was for the wrong amount and or did not include the items being billed for. I completely acknowledge there can be a couple mistakes here and there. These weren't things that we just talked about on the phone and never made it to paper. Every single material was followed up and communicated via email. In one case, they sent me a higher bill, but never included the material and not just one or two times but five separate times.
I've had to spend countless hours examining the contract, addenda and emails to identify mistakes. I've had to create spreadsheets just to track what they were billing us for and to catch all the mistakes in features, material and process. Many of the items were set for delivery. Had I not caught it, the wrong material would have been installed.
This is basic general contracting and why people hire a pool company versus doing it themselves. Because of the amount of effort you need to keep up with Anthony and Sylvan's mistakes, you can literally go out and hire the sub-contractors yourself with better results, much less stress and save significant money. Nearly identical to other reviews, during the sales talk, we were promised multiple things, none of which took place. Even after repeatedly asking "Hey, what happened to...." I can honestly say, not one of those promises were kept. The areas listed here represent just a couple issues. There's simply not enough digital paper to list them out. There was clearly a very capable group of people behind the scenes working and doing a great job. Really professional people, unfortunately I did not get to interact with those folks regularly.
I would not even expect this unsatisfactory support from a $40,000 pool project yet alone a $100,000 pool. I am embarrassed that I've spent as much money as we have as this was the level of support we received from Anthony & Sylvan Pools Maryland, along with the lack of basic communication and constantly avoidable mistakes and they have not even completed the pool yet. The entire purpose of buying the pool was to bring family and friends together for fun events. However this has generated so much stress and frustration. I will revisit this review as the construction continues. If any one aspect improves, I will certainly post an update to reflect improvement.

We had a neighbor that had the pool with Anthony & Sylvan. At that time, they were the pool store that was closest to us. We go to the store and buy chemicals. Anthony & Sylvan has done openings and closings for us for the last three or four years. So far, we're very happy with our pool. Being a homeowner with a pool, especially the first time, you're not really aware of all the things that come along with it. But Anthony & Sylvan has always been able to help us out when we have questions.
They're usually pretty responsive as far as getting somebody to call you back or be out if we have questions and concerns about some things. Also, our salesman was really good and friendly. He explained things really well. When we had the installation, that became a little bit more complicated because we went through a whole process. It was sometimes kind of overwhelming. They need to do a better job from the salesman to working with a team that’s doing the installations because you come across a lot of things that you're not really sure exactly what you want to be done. Having somebody there to continue to be a liaison through the process would be helpful.

When I had decided that we were gonna get a pool, I googled throughout the area. I live in a rural area, so there isn't very much to choose from. But I chose Anthony and Sylvan because they seem to have been in business the longest. They installed my pool. They also open it and close it for me. Recently, my favorite thing about them is they saved me a lot of money. They offered a program where I can open and close my pool for less than it would normally cost. They charged me a one-time fee for opening and closing. Normally, I would pay to open and then in the fall, I would pay to close it. That was more money. The only thing is one of the technicians who opens the pool is an older gentleman with a very thick accent. I can't understand what he says.
Overall, I don't have a problem with Anthony & Sylvan per se but I had a problem with one of the contractors that they used. They are a paving company called Concrete Masters. This is my third season with the pool. We have a fire pit that has a bunch of cracks in it from the get-go and different pavers that need to be fixed. I had their guy Silvio out here in the spring. He said they were gonna do this and that. That was on a Monday. He said they were gonna be back on Friday but they never came. I never heard from him all summer. My fire pit and the other issues are still not fixed.

The technicians were very knowledgeable and helpful. I’ve been into the retail store as well and they’re always there to explain any problems that I may have with my pool, water or filter. This is the first time in Delaware that I’ve had a pool. Anthony & Sylvan installed it. Because of that, I might as well have them maintain it. In California, I used to do all that. When the pressure gauge on the tank failed to work, their guy gave me a quick lesson on how to replace it. Apparently, the gauges have a tendency to fail periodically so he wasn’t surprised that it wasn’t working. He told me how I could fix it quickly at a little cost. He appeared very professional and did the job. They let me know what I needed to do and after I had done it, they were able to knock it out in no time.

Some feedback from other customers also helped clear my decision to do business with Anthony & Sylvan. They built my pool. They also closed my pool and opened it in the spring.
Working with Anthony & Sylvan, I like the ease of scheduling. I work with Frank who is the point person for the project. He was always reachable. If I left a message, he was quick to get back to me, answered questions that I had, and showed me information. He walked me through the process with the material so I could feel comfortable not having any prior knowledge of the pool system. He gave me information and I learned as I went.
My overall experience is great. I had one negative piece where there was misunderstanding and miscommunication with the concrete that incurred an additional cost to myself. I have right now a step that’s not quite correct with the concrete. But I’m not gonna allow that to overshadow my whole experience and the whole project of the pool. I know it’s a large undertaking to get all those working pieces in place.

The service guys do great work and describe their work step by step to me so I know what they're doing. Also, over the phone to schedule, the reps are very accommodating to my schedule and time availability. The service guys show up within the prescribed time that they promised. They take their time. They don’t rush through it. If they see any kind of issue or problem, they expedite then and there, which is nice. They don’t reschedule the service call. So, it's a good service. This year, they opened the pool season and there was just a small issue with the heater that turned on and turned off. We contracted with Anthony & Sylvan for a pool project in August 2018, to ensure that 90% of the work would be done before December, and only 2-4 days of work would be required in 2019 (plaster and fill) to open the pool in the March/April 2019 time frame. We brought many concerns, issues and deficiencies to the company's attention, which were more often than not ignored, forgotten or discounted. As a result, most of our concerns were never addressed.
Our property was in a constant state of construction debris and trash, and they damaged our driveway, flowerbeds, shrubbery and trees, and lawn because they failed to adhere to their own ingress/egress routes. When the plaster and fill crews showed up finally in late April, the A&S manager stated the pool was in not anywhere near ready for plaster and fill. There were a number of poorly constructed areas (previously brought to their attention) and the project would be delayed by about a month.
Finally, when they did plaster and fill the pool, and only after finally payment had been made, it leaks, there are stains and streaking in the plaster, and the tile work is unstable, and cracking. Poor construction. We have been waiting on resolution now for over a month, and the finished product still has not been delivered. It's June. 10 months after we started, and the season is underway. Additional details, pictures and the story of our ordeal can be found at www.OurPoolSucks.com, which we have launched in an effort to get Anthony & Sylvan Pools to respond.

My wife and I built our new home 1.5 years ago and we wanted to get a pool installed for our family to enjoy. Anthony & Sylvan Pools seemed like a truly professional company throughout the sales process, however little did we know, all of the professionalism and customer service went out the window as soon as they have your money and a signed contract.
After living in our home for the first year we decided we were ready to move forward with the pool and that we would be using Anthony & Sylvan (based on their nationwide reputation, warranty, claims of exceptional customer service, etc). Our salesman (Pete **) was very great at his job and seemed to know his stuff very well, so when he told us typical gunite pool construction in the fall is between 4-6 weeks, pending weather delays, we had no reason to not believe him. We're told 5 months later in the spring by our project manager that that company shuts down in the winter.
After signing our contract with Pete on October 2nd 2018 things seemed to slow down and we no longer felt like we were receiving any customer service. We had our "Meet and Greet" with Pete and the Project Manager (Randy **) on October 30th. After this it seemed as if we slipped to the very back of their priority list. We would call Pete or our Project Manager (Randy **) and it would go to voicemail, or we would email them and never receive a response. We were told the "Pro Edge Build" website would allow us to track our important dates for the construction process so we know when to be home from work for the trades to do their work, however nobody ever updates this information (just prepopulated dates that don't matter) and when you ask anyone for a timeline or tentative dates scheduled they cannot give you an answer.
After excavation, a ton of gravel was dumped and scattered at the end of our driveway leading into the backyard, no silt fence was installed (resulting in clay spreading throughout our backyard with each rain over this 8 month period), and no follow up conducted to keep us informed of the upcoming important dates. Throughout this process we would never hear anything and when we would be leaving for work someone would show up and say they were scheduled to perform their work, so we would then have to rearrange our childcare/transportation and work schedules last minute to accommodate Anthony & Sylvan.
This happened almost every time any trade work was to be completed, except for the gunite due to the fact they called us the day prior to ensure we made our payment before they showed up the next day. As happy as we were at this point to be making progress on our pool, it was already well beyond the estimated 4-6 week period.
We finally got our gunite shell on December 14th, 10 weeks and 3 days (73 days) after signing our contract. Although things had been moving slow up to this point, we were told the excavation, gunite prep, and gunite were the most lengthy parts of the entire process so we were hopeful they could make up for some time throughout the winter and have our pool done in AT LEAST 6 MONTHS and just in time to enjoy it in the Spring. BOY WERE WE WRONG! At this point Anthony & Sylvan already had 95% of the money for the pool due to their convenient payment schedule (40% due prior to excavation, 55% due prior to gunite) and therefore had no need to provide us with any customer service, professionalism, or communication throughout the remainder of the process.
By Spring 2019 (what we were assured would be a "No Later Than" timeline for completion by A&S) we had NO further progress made on our pool. On top of this, the backyard looking like trash was starting to get to us (after 6 months it's difficult to ignore). The yard was, and continues to be, a mud pit which inconveniences us further in regards to our dogs. When they're let out and back in multiple times a day, there is a paw cleaning process.
However, no matter how much we clean, or whatever gadgets we use, Virginia Clay gets tracked into our house/carpet. Piles of dirt everywhere from the excavation, trash from gunite crew, trash from short stub crew, safety fence blown down and in the pool after the day it was put up, plastic "winterization cover" for the shell ripped and blown/flapping all around, clay from excavated dirt spreading throughout backyard, etc. We had to pick up parts of the safety fence or plastic floating around our backyard on numerous occasions throughout this process.
When we couldn't stand the mess anymore we had to contact Anthony & Sylvan (again, us having to reach out to them to get anything done) to do something about the trash. A couple weeks later the PM stopped by to "clean up" the jobsite, but left all the plastic piled up behind our pool so it would be more out of sight and assured us he would have someone pick it up and haul it off. To this day this pile of plastic is still sitting behind our pool getting blown around with every gust of wind that comes by.
Throughout this winter/spring we continually reached out to Anthony & Sylvan representatives, working our way up the chain of management until we finally reached someone who made it sound as if he would be able to help move construction along and compensate us for what he agreed was poor customer service and unreasonable delays. The General Manager, Mid Atlantic Division (Thatcher **) agreed that our experience had been unreasonable and assured us he would make it right by ensuring we were satisfied by the end of the project. Although this initially put us at ease, this also became a process of not delivering on their promises.
** told us (end of April 25th) that his goal was to have us swimming in our pool in approximately 3 weeks and reached out to his scheduler with details. This has now been over 5 weeks ago and we still do not even have the patio formed. They moved along with getting the tile and coping crew on site, finally got the electricians, plumbers, and gas trades to show up throughout this timeframe, however we have yet to receive anything from the decking crew to even get a tentative scheduled date for our patio form and pour. This is even after the scheduler (Patrick **) reached out to them about contacting us ASAP to arrange a date.
After ALL of this, we finally decided we should be compensated for this mess of a project and the unnecessary delays to our given timeline. After reaching out to find out how they would "make it right", we were insulted by an unreasonable discount (1% of total project cost) offered to us off of our final payment prior to the plaster. When we laid out our expectation of a 10% discount, we were told that 10% of the project is a lot of money. $68,500 is a lot of money. Money that was paid in good faith that the promises that were made, would be fulfilled.
Now they are telling us the only other ways they can "add value" for us to our project is to spend additional money on other accessories/services in order to receive a small "savings", however with how poor the service and timeliness has been thus far I can't see any "value" in anything they could offer us other than money back on a botched project. I totally get they don't want to lose money on any project, however as a contractor if you totally screw something up you should give your customers compensation for your mistakes.
I wouldn't think 10% off is an unreasonable amount for any failed project (typically marked up 30%), and if this is how you do business then your mistakes and poor judgment SHOULD put a dent in your bottom line and affect how much money the company makes or loses on a project to keep those same issues from happening again and again. I don't care, nor should I have to, about losing personnel, delays you face, or whether or not the company makes a profit on my project. I care about getting my swimming pool in a reasonable amount of time (based on your projections) and being appropriately compensated for any issues or unsatisfactory results throughout the process.
Based on our experience, I cannot and will not recommend anyone to build a pool with Anthony & Sylvan (unless they make up for their shortfalls with us). 8 months later and we still just have a wrecked backyard and the pool is still a MINIMUM of a month away from being able to swim in (assuming they were to increase their rate of progress all of a sudden). Due to their shortfalls we have already missed out on over a month of prime swimming weather and AT LEAST 2 months of it by the time our pool may finally be completed, not to mention the birthday parties we planned on hosting at our pool based on the assumption that it would be done by Spring 2019 at the absolute latest. This is completely unacceptable and we are just ready to get it over with.

Anthony & Sylvan's salesman, Mike, was fabulous. I tried five other companies and found that Mike and Anthony & Sylvan were a good value. It seemed to be a very good product. We use them for seasonal openings and closings, and they've been wonderful. The team is knowledgeable. They got the work done and they did a good job.

Our issue has been outstanding since the summer of 2018. The table we had built in our pool has some defects and we still can not seem to get the problem fixed. We continue to receive excuse after excuse from contractors not showing up due to broken vehicles to contractor behind on work orders. John ** Warranty Manager provides poor customer service and continues to be dishonest as to trying to fix the problem. The last incident involved Mr. ** telling me the contractor being sent was prepared to try two different methods to fix the issue; yet the contractor comes over and is not equipped to try the second method.
I have sent numerous emails to Mr. ** complaining about their customer service and have copied Dan ** whom I believe is the GM for San Antonio area. At this point I no longer what to work with this company. The website talks about their great Customer Service and how they back up their work but I have to say their statements are not true based on my experience. One thing I will say is they were nice and quick to take our money when we built our pool. We will no longer waste our time working with this company.

2019 We contacted Anthony Pools to re-plaster and retile our pool. Salesperson was more than eager to sell their products and services promising "they were the best in the business." He seemed reasonable and to know what he was selling. Unfortunately the rest of Anthony Pools was uninformed, disinterested or unhelpful. Absolutely hands down the worst customer service I have ever encountered. Note that all services must be pre-paid. My experience with contractors who demand full pre-payment is they are more about getting paid than doing a good job. What Anthony doesn't tell you is all their work is contracted out and they function merely as the seller and scheduler. Once money is received they disappear.
I was held hostage for the final portion of the job until full payment was received despite having paid over half already. "I cannot let our team come to your house until we get paid." You have zero recourse if there is a problem. Unless they were seeking payment getting someone from the office to answer the phone or answer emails is next to impossible. Find a group that does their own work and allows you to pay for a completed job. Anthony pools is a larger operation that works off a middleman markup business model. You will most likely get a better price since can avoid the contractor middleman markup.

Our pool was dug in December, 2018. (The project started in August, however, digging issues ensued, some of which were not the fault of A&S.) There has been zero project management. Requests for information on timing and what steps are coming next go disregarded. After much frustration/emails/calls/texts we created our own simple spreadsheet to attempt to gain some awareness of future activity. It has been wholly ignored. There appears to be no project plan. When crews do come to the house (e.g., the plumbers), they leverage a layout we never approved. We do not seem to be getting even close to the benefit of our bargain when it comes to customer service and project management. I would advise against beginning work with this provider - at least in my area.

Stay away from this company (in Northern VA). The customer experience isn't a priority. Our pool is only 9 months old and there are already stains on the rock wall. We had some stains on the plaster too right after it went in and they did nothing to address. Just had our pool opening, tech was unfriendly, grumpy and generally unhelpful. Terrible company with no commitment to customers. They have our money so why worry about the poor quality of the product and the poor customer service?

Miserable experience. Dig on June 21 2018. They were 3 weeks behind by week 5 of a ten week project, and now March 20 2019, we are only halfway done. No updates. Sometimes contractors show, sometimes they don't, sometimes they show entirely unannounced. "It rained". Yep, but not until the last week of July and we were weeks behind before any fell from the sky. The pool is smaller than spec, some tiles are upside down, diving board is off center from the decking bump out, and pressure gauge is broken. Many many emails to many many people go unanswered. I wonder how long the next half of the project will take, and what else will go wrong. Zero communication. No explanations. Choosing Anthony Sylvan was a mistake.

Like most people out there I was convinced that due to national size of the company and lifetime warranty it is a good bet to go with A&S for such an expensive project. The sales process was great. Unlike some other people mentioned, I was not pressured hard into getting unnecessary extras. That's where nice things ended.
This is a new construction, so not a whole lot things to damage, but they still managed to destroy water pipe, despite showing them exactly where it lays in the ground. My builder will try to get that reimbursed, but looks like their "we are not responsible for damage" means exactly what is written - they will destroy unnecessarily your property and ask you to look into the contract when you complain about it. Pool shell was 2" lower projected deck level, and 2" shallower. It would be 4" shallower if only another unrelated contractor would not spot an obvious issue with rebar to the A&S crew doing rebar work.
Due to the lower level of the pool we had to find a solution how to match it to the deck, and with our helpful concrete contractor we found a solution - they would use a thinner layer of concrete mix suitable for thin applications. But we got a surprise week later after finding a suitable solution that pool walls were raised by A&S crew. This change, which no one asked for, introduced several issues - height of steps and sitting areas are now deeper than allowed by code, skimmer is too low to work efficiently and we have to work with our deck contractor to change plans and work already done again.
A&S PM found out about these changes only several weeks later, despite his company doing these changes. We discussed several solutions to the lower level of the skimmer (basically he suggested to not have trees around the pool and keep water level lower). But when it came to out-of-code depth of steps and sitting area he said it is my problem to deal with and if inspector fails inspection, these issues needs to be resolved at my cost.
First of all any such repairs below waterline potentially can cause cracks and water leaking out outside the pool shell, damaging my property, which they nicelly covered in their contract (by not being responsible for that). Second - these repairs are quite expensive, as it needs to be done with gunite crew and they have minimum order volume. And A&S put all of these costs on me. This is still in progress, but at this point I am sure that I had bad luck with the team assigned to my project. Question you should ask yourself: do you want to try your luck with such expensive product?

Our experience with Anthony & Sylvan has been disappointing, stressful, and very difficult. I sincerely cannot offer a single positive statement from our experience. They over promised on multiple parts of the process and under performed every single time. Currently, we are still waiting for them to finish the plaster on our pool (original plan was to have the pool ready by the end of June and it's now September 19th). We chose Anthony & Sylvan and gave our deposits SOLELY based on a guarantee IN WRITING from their Sales Manager about the timeline of construction. They didn't meet that timeline and their response was to say that there was no penalty outlined in the agreement thus there's nothing they have to do for us.
Moreover, we have paid in full for the pool and had a terrible plaster job that has to be redone. I have over 50 hours of being on the phone with Anthony & Sylvan without any resolve to date. There are numerous other stories I could share but I do not feel like it would help our project in any way. Regardless, for your own sanity, money, and quality pool, DO NOT FOR ANY REASON HIRE ANTHONY & SYLVAN TO INSTALL YOUR POOL!

Anthony & Sylvan put in the pool 20 years ago and over the years, my interactions with their store staff have been fine. I especially like the water analysis. There was one littler sputter, however, of having trouble with the pool. I brought the Polaris to them because something was clogged up. I couldn’t figure it out and it sat for weeks and weeks. Finally, I took it back and put it all together myself. But normally, Anthony & Sylvan has what I need when I go to the store. If there’s some doubt, I call them and ask them if they have it and order it if it’s on sale. It has been a good relationship.

I dealt with the manager and he took his time in going over everything completely and telling me how the salt water system works. He stood with me in everything. He ran out to get the salt himself and he put it in my car. He was great and he did the right thing. I was very happy with the service.
