We love our pool! We had a wonderful experience building our backyard pool. The whole process was fun to watch from start to finish and watch it all come together! Anthony and Sylvan were great to work with and we would recommend them to anyone! We look forward to making lots of memories with our kids swimming right in our own backyard!

Each pool construction produced a weak link in the process in regards to contractors. In all but one case, this was damage to landscaping and did not effect the pool in any way. All issues were addressed and resolved by Anthony & Sylvan. This did produce a list of contractors I requested by excluded from subsequent pool construction.

This was our first year as pool owners. Brian ** came and not only did a fine job closing our pool but was very patient with all my questions about the pool. He was honest and didn't try and sell me on any unnecessary treatments. Definitely will be working with this company in the future.

The A&S team is professional & capable. This undertaking requires a large team of professionals, and a fair investment of time to purchase, then coordinate the installation, the opening in spring, then sadly, the closing in the all. After researching different types of pools and talking to a number of salespeople, we were convinced that A&S was the best choice for a gunnite pool and spa with heater. The salesperson and the person who coordinated the team were knowledgeable and precise, installers were professional, careful and capable in each phase, the person who did our opening, and the people who did the closing were professional, thorough and capable, almost like pool "scientists". I felt like a confident pool owner after working with them... plus these people made themselves avail. for questions after they left. Customer service calls for general questions went well. I would highly recommend Anthony & Sylvan. We have an 8 & 7 year old. We love our pool. Installed in the fall, then open & filled in the spring, it was an exciting weekend when we finally opened it!

Fiberglass in ground pool 14X28 kidney shape. Anthony Sylvan did a beautiful job. The pool was done in a timely manner. Any issues were taking care of satisfactory. Would recommend them to family and friends.

I rec'd a call from (C) a manager at A&S trying to resolve my issues in my initial complaint. He stated that they will come out, power wash the oil stains, remove the rebar that is sticking up all over, clean up the mess. I am happy with this call. Hopefully we can continue in the positive direction without having to go through web postings. This is all we wanted from the beginning and I am so happy that this manager got involved. Not only is our brand new driveway busted up but has oil stains all over it from the sub-contractor’s trucks that Anthony & Sylvan use. Of course, the salesman promised us that they would do their best to protect our driveway (even though they need an "access road" to the yard) to avoid damage. So far, they have done the total opposite (I took pictures of everything to back up my statements for the project manager). The Project manager says it's not his problem even though there are ruts all over our front lawn (no where near access road) and because their trucks are not tuned up and leak. After making several complaints, he said that they will "take care of the stains" after our project is complete. I will gladly give update in the spring to see if they adhere to their word.
Anthony & Sylvan’s idea of rough grade includes two feet deep holes with the pipes exposed and four inch deep tracks. Again, we were told it was not A&S’s problem. Hire a landscaper. It’s amazing how they promote themselves as such a high class (been in business for over 60+ years) when all that has done for them is teach them how to fight lawsuits. I would already sign on to a class action against these crooks. I am posting pictures of their work everyday on my Facebook just to let the world know. If I can help just one family from losing all their savings, I will keep telling the world. My husband busted his rump to provide something nice for us and A&S has totally disappointed us. Not only do they try to swindle their way out of their mis-measurements (oh, they use triangulation, fancy way of saying we will find a way to cover our buns when we put the pool a foot or two off) but also do whatever they can to cover for each other.
Also, for the concrete deck, we were told by the project manager that they lay the cement deck directly on the dirt. I'm a girl and I know you have to use crush stone and wire to avoid the cracking. A&S seem to take every shortcut they can. We are now getting someone else to do the cement work, correctly. Also the rebarb that is sticking out of the ground - how can this be our responsibility to remove along with all the trash around the piping? Hopefully, it will be next week when the project manager will be a little more receptive. I have to say this; my new dream home is becoming a nightmare, thanks to A&S. Thank the Lord for cameras so I can back up our step-by-step process. I hope in April I can write a fairytale ending comment to our experience. A&S, seriously, you should keep to your word, although you are quick to remind your customers that they signed a contract - you should remember that yourself. Shame on you.

Anthony & Sylvan did our pool many years ago. I loved the pool. When we needed to have it reconditioned, we no longer resided in the home where the pool was. The job went by smoothly with only telephone communication. I was very pleased with the result. I would always recommend Anthony & Sylvan.

I just remember it taking longer than it was supposed to. They cleaned up after themselves and the ordering process was easy. I'd probably use them again. I've had my pool for about a month and a half I guess since it finished. Well, first, they weren't able to swim in it. It was the first day. They got really cold. The grandkids had been there a couple of times, but it's really been too cold. It was a pleasant experience. Very nice.

I contracted Anthony and Sylvan Pools to build an in-ground pool at my residence. The landscape of my property transformed from a typical backyard to an Oasis that my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed all summer and into the fall. Our design consultant, Don **, provided excellent insight not only during the design phase but also throughout the entire process. He maintained contact to ensure that the individual phases of construction met our satisfaction. Don acted as a liaison in securing a contractor to complete the water feature, decking and landscape work which turned out fantastic. I followed the recommendations of Anthony and Sylvan's opening team pertaining to brushing, chemicals and filter service intervals and had crystal clear water all year with surprisingly minimal work involved on my part. I would recommend to anyone to add a heat pump to your system. It extends your swimming season by about two months and regulates the temperature perfectly. We could not have had a better experience with this project. Great job!

The guys at Anthony & Sylvan are great. They give a discount for scheduling service online and show up when they say they will and do what needs to get done and no more. We've had our pool for 4 years now and they always seem to be there when I need them. Overall, real professional operation for my area!

Initially, I was less than pleased with the salesperson that I had purchased the pool from, but realized that I wouldn't see the salesperson again after signing the contract. From there on, I was extremely pleased with the PM (Josh) and the Indoctrination tech (Ron). Josh was extremely communicative throughout the whole process, understood my concerns, kept me in the loop on the progress, any issues, etc. This was from day one until the project was completed. When Ron came to open the pool, he was insightful and very educated on the process and gave me some tricks to use. He also mitigated a fairly large concern of mine by working with the service folks to fix an issue that was to be resolved during the sales cycle. I have provided A&S with a couple of referrals already - David ** (already under construction) and Paul ** (vetting out other pool companies). Fortunately, their salesperson (Paul **) was much better than mine.

Anthony and Sylvan built our pool for us 5 years ago. They have opened and closed our pool for us since we built it. Many of our friends have started to open and close on their own, trying to save money, but we wouldn't consider it. We trust A&S and feel that they are worth every penny! We know that A&S stands behind their service and we have the peace of mind knowing that our pool is in good, capable hands! Our pool is the envy of all of the neighbors, all thanks to the care that it receives from Anthony and Sylvan!

Our experience with the the staff of Anthony & Sylvan pools has been excellent. The customer care team of Denise and Danielle is more than accommodating when trying to schedule service appointment or the opening/closing of a pool. The pool technicians are courteous, knowledgeable and will stay until the job is complete. I would recommend the entire team at the Lancaster, PA Anthony & Sylvan Pool Service Center.

We always use Anthony & Sylvan to close our pool and hot tub. We usually have Vince and he is always polite and explains everything to us very well. I appreciate that the company gives us a reminder call a day or two before closing so that we have everything available for them. The easy payment to our credit card is nice to, as I don't have to mail a check afterwards. We will continue to have A&S close our pool each year!

All personnel connected with the installation of my pool safety cover did an excellent job, from the sales representative to the men who took the measurements for the cover and the two men who installed it. I finally decided to give my Sylvan pool a makeover and had contacted several local companies that specialize in this area. In fact, I was very close to selecting one but decided to give Anthony Sylvan a last look. I am very thankful that I did so as the pool renovation exceeded my expectations and the gentleman in charge was hands on during the entire process. A few of the other vendors I spoke with had recommended a partial renovation at a lesser price that would in the end have compromised the project. I cannot say enough about the workers and the management that participated in my pool renovation.

From the start of the project, with the helpful, knowledgeable, and patient sales rep who assisted me in selecting materials, to the friendly, competent crews who quickly, neatly, and skillfully completed the various stages of our renovation, I could not be more pleased. Our 30-year-old pool was in dire need of an uplift. We resurfaced the plaster with a neat pebbly looking material, replaced the old boring concrete coping with blue stone, and had a nice complementary tile to go with the coping and surrounding boulders and stones in our landscaping. I think it is more beautiful than the day it was new. Next year, I plan to redo the deck with stamped concrete to complete the new look. A&S installed our pool in 1983 and re-plastered it once before, and now this. They are always professional and friendly, and of course, do a fantastic job on anything they do. I am completely thrilled with my 'new' pool and highly recommend them to anyone who is planning on installing or renovating a pool.

From our initieal contact with your sales representative John **, through the entire process, we were treated courteously and fairly. We were given all the specifics we needed to make our decision to include a start and completion date. We knew exactly what to expect on a step by step procedure to include what the Labor Crew would be doing. We were fully informed as to what had to be done by us in the ensuing weeks after the job completion to assure a successful result and to maintain stability in the chemical analyses of the water. Our contact with your office (Tom) was patient and responsive throughout the process. As to the men on the work site doing the resurfacing, they were polite, efficient, capable, and knowledgeable from start to finish. In closing, we are completely satisfied with Sylvan & Anthony Pools and would not hesitate to recommend them.

My Sylvan pool was built when we built our home 14 years ago. We did a major renovation to our backyard this past summer, which included replacement of the concrete and wood deck with pavers, repositioning of the gazebo, landscaping and the pool. Sylvan replaced the coping to match the pavers, replaced the tile and replastered. Your team worked extremely well with the scheduling of their work with the paver and landscaping contractor. The workmanship was excellent and I couldn't be happier with the end result. The only disappointment was that the installation of the cover we bought from Sylvan as well brought an end to our short swimming season. I also had a great experience working with Don **. I hope we have a short winter so that we can open the pool early and start to enjoy our investment.

I'd absolutely recommend Anthony & Sylvan for pool renovations. My sales consultant Grant was very knowledgeable and helpful, and the project coordinators (Tom and Robin) were excellent. The project ended up ahead of schedule in terms of time and came in right on the quoted price. The coordination of the various phases and crews was very well orchestrated such that there was no wait-time in between. I am very pleased with the whole experience, and our pool looks fantastic! We were very happy with the service department and the technicians responsible for the tile repair. The service technicians that installed the pool’s light and the relief valve (for pool safety) were professional and knowledgeable. The technicians that installed the tile did an excellent job. They were here on time, installed the tile and cleaned up afterwards. If we weren't planning on selling our house in the spring, we probably would have tiled more than the repair. The company that did the caulking also did a great job. Overall we were very pleased with the work. Also we want to thank Mr. Bill ** for his assistance. It was a pleasure working with him.

The remodeling job done on our old pool by Anthony and Sylvan Pools was outstanding. The people we worked with were very helpful in choosing the right materials. All the remodeling work was done in a timely fashion and the swimming pool and the deck area both look brand new.

Ours is a 34yr old pool that needed a makeover. My husband wanted to fill it in to make a garden to my objections. After contacting Anthony & Sylvan, we were surprised the price was right. Even our old contract was honored. From the salesman to the crew, all were very professional. The work was done in a timely manner and to our satisfaction. We love our refurbished pool. Even my husband admits it was worth it. I kid him that we are swimming in his garden. I just wish the swimming season was longer.

A&S replaced pool tiles and has never completed the job. Also, the tile they removed was thrown in the woods in the back of the house. What does it take to gather all complaints and file a class action suit? How long do customers have to put up with this service and no action being taken against this company?

Update: I wanted to do a follow-up on my complaint with Anthony & Sylvan. We have an appointment set up to refinish the surface of the pool. Hopefully, that should fix the problem.
This is the worst company I have ever dealt with. It's been 3 years since we put in our fiberglass pool. For one, it came scratched. They never walked us through opening it. It has faded. These two were the most important things I asked the salesman, "Will it scratch or fade?" Naturally, he said no. Well, I'm a phone call away from a lawyer & they had the nerve to send me a bill for the last $250 payment. They will get their payment when I get some sort of satisfaction. We went with them because they have been in business for so long. Huh, I don' know how they managed that. This isn't over yet!

After seeing the quality of my parents’ Sylvan pool (built in 1983), my husband and I decided to contract Anthony & Sylvan Pools for our own pool in 1993. We were concerned from the start of concrete pouring after the 'deep end' pool wall collapsed. The laborers shoveled the fallen concrete back into the form as the concrete had already started to 'set'. The Anthony & Sylvan’s "suits" came out the next day to supervise the 'fix' so we felt reasonably comfortable that we wouldn't have any concrete issues in the future. We were wrong.
Skip forward to July 2012, the concrete decking (adjacent to the exact area where the pool wall originally collapsed) began to sink; thus causing the brick coping to pivot and pool wall tiles to pop off. We had a concrete mason come out, dig up the decking to find that not only had this 'area' been back-filled with 3/4 stone and not fill dirt (an industry no-no), but also revealed that the concrete wall (yes, the area that collapsed) was crumbling! Upon seeing the 3/4 stone back-fill and crumbling concrete, the concrete mason immediately paused and said, "Somebody's got some explaining to do."
We notified Anthony & Sylvan's Warranty Department on Monday, July 16th. Terry (from A&S) came out to inspect the problem on Saturday, July 21st (initially challenging that this is an A&S issue and then became 'neutral' after I exerted my engineering background). We were told that he would file a report with the Warranty Department, and have not heard anything since (I've left 2 messages with Terry in the last 3-5 days inquiring on the status). We've consulted with a geologist, who agrees that this is an Anthony & Sylvan issue. The geologist recommended hiring a civil/structural engineer for their expert opinion/evaluation on how the concrete wall should best be repaired. FYI, I have no plans for this repair to come out of my pocket, and will pursue the next level if forced to go in a legal route.

I'd like to share a quick update to my original problem from this past summer. The Anthony and Sylvan Pools team were able to identify the problem with my pool and provide a solution. The pool's chlorine levels are now normal and we're really enjoying our Anthony and Sylvan swimming pool! Thanks.

They installed a new swimming pool 4 to 5 weeks ago. I am running test on water and it's showing high chlorine - so high that it was off the scale. A pool supply store sold me something that was supposed to reduce it - didn't work. I removed all of the chlorine tablets from the chlorinator, flushed it with fresh water, ran the pump/waterfall for 24 hours; chlorine dropped to less than 4. I placed one chlorine tablet in the chlorinator and within 4 hours, test showed chlorine to be 10. I told Anthony and Sylvan that the chlorinator was a problem and they have not responded. I have a 3-year-old granddaughter and other members of the family that were exposed to excessive chlorine and these people seem to care less.

A & S shouldn't be in business. It's a big mistake to use them. Save your marriage!
We lost a summer of swimming a few years ago due to this company despite the contract. I'm still piping angry! I registered a complaint with BBB, the NJ Consumer Affairs dept and the Attorney General's office, and was told that 49(!) other families that year had registered complaints with them formally about Anthony and Sylvan pools just in New Jersey alone! It's the worst company I have ever dealt with, bar none. They are not gentlemen or ladies working there - not people of their word! Use any other company, I implore readers. Stay away. They are damaging and toxic to your health and marriage, I'm just saying.
Find a good little pool company in your area, and don't listen to architects and other pool companies who recommend this sleazy nationwide hoax and shell of a little outfit with an 800 number that you have to give money to. Stay away from them. I wouldn't let people I dislike use them! They are below whale scum! Maybe they are syndicate people? Don't let them enter your lives or properties - on pain of near death.

After posting a negative comment about the resurfacing job done on my pool, I received a call from the Director of Customer Relations named above. We were able to discuss the situation in a calm and rational manner and Mr. ** agreed to fix my pool! My husband and I are delighted. Mr. ** sent me a letter describing the corrective action that will be taken and we have agreed to postpone the work until very late summer/early fall in order not to lose any swimming time during July and August. We are very pleased that Anthony Sylvan Pools has "stepped up to the plate" and taken responsibility to correct a bad situation. I look forward to having this work completed and I will be happy to post an update at that time. I am confident that A/S will make good on their promises. Look for my next posting in late September.

Sylvan built my pool over 15 yrs ago. When it was time to resurface, I contacted Anthony/Sylvan expecting to get the same superior product that I got before. Much to my dismay, the results were a disaster and worse yet, they have refused to do anything about it! After a complete re-plaster job for over $7,000, there was a leak around my pool light. A/S came out to repair this, only to have the new plaster around the light fail again the following season. Then, enormous and ugly cracks appeared in the new plaster surface and A/S said it was "normal crazing". Now, 2 years after the re-plaster job, and getting no satisfaction from A/S whatsoever, I have stains all over the entire surface of the "new" plaster in my pool. They have turned my backyard asset into a liability and I am totally dissatisfied and very angry. Anthony/Sylvan obviously used sub-quality materials, because for 15 years, I never had cracking (crazing) or staining of my pool surface. I would like them to take some responsibility for their botched workmanship. I would not recommend Anthony/Sylvan for any pool renovations.

After completely paying in full, Anthony and Sylvan did not show up to open our new pool for us. They do not answer emails, phone calls, or anything. They have the worst customer service I have ever seen. I mean what service requires you to pay in full before a project is complete. They have a clause in your contract that they are not responsible for tearing up lawns, driveways, etc. I mean really, that would be like hiring someone to work inside your house and they put holes in your drywall! It is insane that they can get away with this. So now, we are stuck with a pool in our yard that is full of water (which of course, they do not provide) and no one to start it up. When you email them about problems, they just ignore your emails, unless of course they are emailing to collect payment. Maybe they figure most people will only get one pool in their life, but while that may be true, I will tell all my neighbors that ask how lame they are. I should have gone with Blue Haven!

My plastering issue started 3 days after the pool was complete. I too had to pay my final payment before the pool was completed. My representative never called, came by, or answered any of my calls. This is a short version, but I have 3 years of audio, video, and emails of contradiction and lies told by Anthony & Sylvan and the Uno plaster company.
I have and still been patient with everyone involved. I've been nothing but polite and friendly with everyone, believing everything they say, because I'm raised the old-fashioned way and I trust a person. Well, that has cost me, because a big company like this take your kindness, as they say, for weakness. I've been told I pissed them off, accused of things, or told I'm making things up.
From the start, I told them I didn't know what I've done, but these two companies have never been there for me. I have had several representatives come out. People of these companies who tried to help were no longer at the companies. And I don't know why, but Uno and Anthony & Sylvan showed that they are very adamant in not helping me or trying to make the situation right. It's like they hate me for some reason. I've talked with some people, and they have heard and seen this. No matter how wrong these companies are, they will not admit or correct the simple issue it was that they let get out of hand.
After 2 years, I think I finally filed with the BBB, and they did re-plaster. But it was just a makeup, and the issue started right back. And from an email, both companies lied. So now, they came back and said it's the water. Nobody started me from the start. Uno, the plaster company, said it's over-processed. Well, this accusation came after they didn't correctly re-plaster.
I asked for my money back of the re-plaster, not the pool, just the part they can't correct the right way. And that's when now it's all my fault over chemicals. Well, like I told them, all my instruction came from Anthony and Uno; and I was told to use a warehouse pool. I'm not the type of person to ask or take something that I didn't pay or work for.
Now that I'm reading the complaints or issues others are having, I wished I never dealt with these companies. I've ask them to sit down and go over the messages. I was promised, but again, nobody showed. I talked with chemical companies, and everyone I talk with said they just giving you the runaround. From the start, all somebody had to do was return my call, and this issue could have been resolved 3 years ago. But they don't care and said to just take my money. Please help.

When the pool was purchased we paid cash. I was having trouble with the pool filter and not pulling water through the filter. I called and spoke to Mr. ** who said he would follow-up and get someone to look at the problem. They sent Admiral Pools at (702) 260-3358 to look at the problem after I paid them $90. They sent one tech who did nothing but prime the pump. The filter started and he left. Ten minutes later, the filter stopped and did not come back on. I called Admiral Pools and explained what happened. They said they would send someone back in a day or two. A new tech showed up and took a look and said the problem was the impeller. He took the part with him. I then get a call from their office to say that it would cost $350 for them to fix the problem, after I had already paid them the $90. I called and told them to return the part that I could not afford the extra money.

Anthony Sylvan's sales representative assessment was inaccurate from day one. First, I was told no retaining walls were required but after signing the contract, I was told a retaining wall and steps were required. The sales rep could not confirm how many steps I needed but said I could make any necessary adjustments once the project began.
Second, I was told about a retaining wall required where the equipment would be located and the equipment (heater, pump, etc. ) would be located on the backside on the wall. After down payment received, I was told the equipment would have to be placed on the front side of the wall which would affect the entertainment area of the pool decking area.
Thirdly, I was told after the contract was signed and down payment received that I would need to have additional dirt bought in to level my yard. I asked how much dirt was needed. I was told don't worry about it, that can be taken care of once the project begins, I can negotiate that with the project officer. I would think if you're in the business there is a process or calculation to determine soil/dirt estimate/requirements.
Then I asked the rocket fuel scientist question, "how much does a truck of dirt cost?" I was told by the representative he was not sure but it wouldn't be that much, but I can ask the project officer when they begin. Unbelievable that a company that's been in the business as long as they claim not knowing how much a truck of dirt costs.
Anthony Sylvan is a joke and if you deal with them, ensure you get confirmed information because once they dig the whole in your yard, you have minimum to no options. Luckily, we didn't allow these clowns to dig. They think its a done deal, but we will see them in court. Be aware!

I called Anthony Sylvan Pools to come to my house to look at my pool for renovation work. The scheduled appointment was for 2:30PM on 9/9/11. The salesman decided to come out earlier and took it upon himself to enter my backyard while I was not home, that would be trespassing. When I came home 3 hours early from work, without pay I have seen he was here and gone. I received his proposal in my door jam. The proposal was in an amount that is absolutely outrageous. When I called and asked why he came early, his answer was he's a busy man and can't wait. Their service is completely unacceptable and their cost is unbelievable. They're actually lucky that I'm not filing trespassing charges against them.

I have contacted your offices many times to let you know about the problems with the pool. The company sent Ray Bell from West Palm Beach to check the pool twice. He did not find any leak. My pool has been with problems for many years, and Anthony & Sylvan Pool has not responded.
In 2002, when someone was selling me the construction of the pool, I was told what the longtime warranty covers and it is in the contract. I was losing water for almost three years by the crack the pool shell had. I finally put the money together and I fixed it. I mailed to you the amount of money that cost me to fix all the damages the crack caused to get my money back and pay the water bill. I asked you about warranty that the pool had. You just gave me different excuses. Anthony & Sylvan pool owners should keep their word about what they promise.

After reading all of the negative complaints, I wanted to let everyone know Anthony & Sylvan is not a bad pool company. There will always be someone complaining about something or someone.
Here is our experience: We had our pool built in the winter/spring of 2007. That particular year was an extremely rainy year. Our pool measures 42x18x6. If you can imagine after it was raining for weeks at a time, how much water was in the bottom of this hole in the ground. We joked that if it didn't stop raining, we would forget the pool and take a pond and go fishing in our own backyard. Anthony & Sylvan came out several times to drain the excess water, put plastic protection on the walls, so they would stop falling in.
After such a rainy season, Anthony & Sylvan finished our pool at the exact time they said it would be finished, the exact way we designed it to be. We checked on the status of the building every single day, from one step to the next, to the inspections being done etc. Our salesperson was so professional and eager to sell us a great pool. He threw in a few "free extras", two lights instead of one, and two skimmer baskets instead of one. Our lights change colors and can be changed to disco lights if we want.
One thing we made sure of was the fact that he actually owned a pool that was built by the company he was working for. We had someone that wanted to build us a pool, worked for a pool company, yet thought having an in-ground pool was a waste of money. Why do business with someone who doesn't own a pool by the company they work for?
The crew that came out was very professional and cleaned up each and every single time after they worked on it. The first year after having the pool, we discovered we had a leak. We called the warranty department. They sent a crew out immediately and it was resolved.
The pool we had built costs us around $60,000, so we decided to purchase the lifetime guarantee warranty. We put in a salt water pool with a pebble finish, instead of the typical white bottom finish. And we purchased pop up head cleaners instead of the typical pool sweepers. I grew up with the typical white bottom finish. My parents had to have it refinished after owning it for about 8 years. Then another 8 years, once again it’s another refinish. They had the typical pool sweeper, which they had to have replaced several times. They were so glad they finally sold their house, so they wouldn't have to put up with that pool again. They used a different company than Anthony & Sylvan.
We have always been very pleased with Anthony & Sylvan.

What hasn't happened? From the start our pool installation has been a total disappointment.
Three years ago, the pool installation was complete and it was a waiting game to decide whether we chose the right company. Two years ago, we contacted Anthony ** about the caulking of the capping and decking. They sent a crew that apparently never applied expansion joint sealant or had forgotten their glasses in the van because sealant was everywhere, from the fence, decking and the side of my home! Worse yet, the sealant bubbled up and now looks horrible!
One year ago, we had cracking issues and we were constantly losing water. After calling Anthony ** they sent out a play dough artist. Needless to say the finished product looked like a 5-year-old had done it! It solved the problem, but it's appearance along with the bad sealant, wasn't what I paid for.
This year, well lets say, when we opened the pool, I was ready to rent a billboard outside their office with pictures of my pool on it! I lost 13,000 gallons of water over the winter and massive cracks lined the pool along with huge gaps in the capping. They sent a play dough artist, but this time they were armed with a caulking gun! It looked worse than a 5-year-old, I would venture to say my 3-year-old would have done a better job.
Today, I had to call again for the third time about the unsatisfactory nature of the work. Anthony ** has not addressed the cracking in the capping on a 3-year-old pool. I'm amazed that they are still in business at this point! I would never recommend this company to anyone!

Initially, our pool was scheduled to be installed in the Spring of 2011. I was disappointed and expressed my dismay that they could not get around to it until August of that year. In hindsight, I realized that it wasn't that Anthony & Sylvan over scheduled but that the weather that year was just not cooperating. As is true of most situations but hard to see at the time, I truly believe that everything happens for a reason. Our pool was installed in the Spring of 2012 which was not a cold rainy beginning but one of the hottest summers on record. The entire team and the project manager, John **, who worked on the pool were courteous, professional, kind, caring and patient with our many questions. Thank you to all at Anthony & Sylvan for making my dream come true and installing the most beautiful pool that will surely produce the most memorable of family times for years to come!

After 35 years of marriage the dream of putting in a pool was about to become a reality. I must mention that they were quick to come out and meet with us. We designed the pool with Anthony & Sylvan and I wrote the deposit check for $3500. We were told the pool would be completed last week of June or first week of July 2011. We didn't plan our annual one-week stay at the Jersey shore this year because of this major purchase. Today is June 28th and they haven't even been out to start construction. They do not even respond to your phone calls. My husband called everyone including the president of the company but did not get a response. So no pool, no vacation. I guess at this point the only thing to do is to find an attorney and try to get our deposit back. Dream killers!

My sales meeting with Anthony & Sylvan went very well. The sales rep, Don **, was very convincing. He sold me a vision of a high-quality company that has been in business for a long-time and has the scale to get a better price and better quality product. The reality was the timeline that was originally promised to me of 60 days for completion is now 4 weeks over due. Less than 1 week was due to weather. The remaining 3 weeks have been due to mistakes made by their plumbing crew and holes in the scheduling. I want to keep things concrete and tangible here. Ian **, the scheduler, did not respond to my emails for 3 days at a critical point in the project. The plumbing did not fix their mistake for what is going on ten days now, and this has delayed the project by a week.
Can you believe a company makes a mistake and does not fix it immediately? You would think there is someone there explaining or apologizing for the mistake. There is no one who will take my call and Ian ** won't answer any direct question. At the Consumer Affairs, I hope you are an entity that can protect individuals like myself from false advertising. I believe telling someone 60 days for completion and have it go 4 weeks over (3 weeks due to things under Anthony & Sylvan's control) is unacceptable. I'm not sure how you want to quantify having the expectations for a certain completion of a project and that being missed by 50% due to negligence. Thank you for listening.

What a nightmare the company Anthony & Sylvan is. Anthony & Sylvan began construction on my pool in 11/09 and after digging the hole and trashing my yard, then construction just stopped. Just like that. For 5 months nothing was done. After many, many calls and to much frustration, I contacted Mr. Howard Wertman, president of Anthony & Sylvan with email address HWertman@AnthonySylvan.com. Well, Mr. Wertman certainly got them on their feet again and for the next couple of weeks, they were here doing their jobs. However, the jobs they were doing were unacceptable. The workers had absolutely no supervision.
The contractors they sent here couldn't speak English and the workmanship was like I said, unacceptable. My patio had to be completely dug up and re-tiled and now to my knowledge, I discover they didn't seal the tiles. Now every time it rains or gets wet, dirt comes up from the seams and water collects in areas. I've taken pictures and sent them to the warranty guy Daryl and he just wrote me a nasty letter saying he had no idea what was causing it and neither did anyone else in the office. Imagine that. How do they get away with this? The huge pool pump/filter system was installed in the wrong place, outside my bedroom window, and I had to battle with them to get it moved. They told me it would be fine there and that I wouldn't be able to hear it. Yeah, right.
They told me I was going to have to pay to have it moved and I said they were nuts. The original drawing showed where the system should of been placed and they never even looked at the drawing. So I contacted Mr. Wertman and they had to move it. Now here it is almost a year later and I am still battling with Anthony & Sylvan to get things done on this pool. I have not paid them their final payment because I know that once I do, that will be it. I will never hear from them again. They are threatening to turn me over to a collection agency. On top of that my $1,000 deposit which had been waived by one of the many project managers, has to be paid now. I was just informed of this yesterday. T
They are also saying that if I don't pay that now, they will turn me over to a collection agency. I have also learned that a final inspection has to be done by the city of Katy, where I live, to close out the permit. This is something that Anthony & Sylvan is aware of and they have never even mentioned it to me. If you don't have the inspection, there are consequences involving your property that can occur. So be sure to check and make sure that a final inspection has been done.
My advise to anyone is, if your pool is not complete do, not pay Anthony & Sylvan their final payment until everything is completed. It is your only recourse with this incompetent company. I am a divorced, working mom and this has been a nightmare for me. The employees of this company have bullied me in every way. I have been treated so disrespectfully and the letters that I have received are proof of this. I lose sleep over the issues involving this pool. I am having problems with the lights not working and now they just refer me to their warranty group who, of course, I never get any response. Yesterday the business accountant hung up on me.
I have been very patient and kind. I don't know what is going to happen and I am so sick and tired of this no response customer service. I would love to get involved in a class action law suit against Anthony & Sylvan. The only problem with this is that they would probably file bankruptcy and it would be a waste of our time and money.

I had work done on my Anthony & Sylvan swimming pool in May '09. The project started in May and lasted until August 2010. That's neither here nor there. We had the pool re-plastered, re-tiled and new copings stones installed. As the salesman stated, "It will be a whole new pool." Well, upon finishing last year, my husband vacuumed when surface set and was told to and called me outside to take a look at the bottom surface in the deep end. There are black lines which almost look like black veins in the entire deep end.
The pool, even after you vacuum, looks dirty. I immediately phoned Anthony & Sylvan Pools and told them we were not satisfied with the finish and we had a problem with the surface. They said no problem, they would send someone out. I asked them for a letter that stated we were not satisfied and a promise for them to return the next swimming season which would be in 2010 to correct their mistake. Following this phone call, I sent emails, left voice mails and sometimes weeks would go by before they returned any of my calls. With the opening of this season in 2010, I called them again to remind of the letter. Still, "No problem, we would send someone out."
They sent several individuals, some looked at the surface took notes and some didn't. One person came out and after he looked at the pool, I asked if he would be satisfied with this pool at his house and he said "Absolutely not." I don't know where to turn. I've invested thousands to get the pool repaired and I'm not asking for anything more that was originally promised and what I agreed to with the contract. We stood behind our word and paid them in full. There is a three-year warranty on the job. What good is having a warranty if Anthony & Sylvan Pools is not going to stand behind it and make good for it.
I don't know where to turn. This has caused nothing but anguish for me and my family. Help! Please help! One final note: they mentioned that there might be iron in the water or minerals. We have the pool tested weekly with the reports in addition, I have a purifier in the house. They kept saying to call them back but they never planned on helping to resolve the issue.

This spring, Anthony 7 Sylvan re-plastered my pool and replaced the filtration system with a so-called chemical cost saving system. My pool has black dirty lines all through the so-called white and blue crystal plaster. The filtration system does not work at all and it now costs me 4 times as much to maintain the pool as it did before their cost saving system which is at 12,600.00 and 1000.00-dollar bucks. For water replacement, the job will have to be re-done all over again to look and operate as good as it did before they re-did it.
I can't express enough. Do not deal with these people. Over 50 phone calls have gone unanswered and everyone involved has no knowledge of the pool renovation system or even a clue on how to do it when they had sent a professional out to look and they agree on how bad it looks but they do not have any answers on how to fix it. They need to talk with someone from the higher up, who never is there.

Anthony/Sylvan built my pool in 11/2006. By mid May/June 2007, the tile started to fall off. I called them and they said there was a crack in the gunite. They sent gunite company and they injected a substance to allegedly seal the crack. The crack was about 18 feet long (half of one side of the pool). They had to come back in 2008 and the gunite company told me they would have to repair the entire side because it was going to continue to fall. They did a temporary job formy son's birthday party and promised to return in 11/08 to fix it permanently. They left and never came back.
Now, they say it is not a crack in the gunite that it is the coping. They don't want to honor the contract and warranty service. I have sent them photos to show the crack, their own people told me it was a major crack that needed to be fixed and that it was under warranty. Those people can't speak directly against the company at this point but any good attorney can subpoena them to get their statement. I am not the only one in this situation, the web is full of unhappy customers with Anthony and Sylvan.
Seems to me that we should have enough for a class action suit. They get away with it because people get tired of getting the run around. I hope I can get help to get justice. Once they got paid, they forgot about their contract. And their own gunite company admitted the problem before they craw fished their way out to avoid paying to redo their job.

It has absolutely terrible customer service. They have already received 90% payment on our pool, and all we have is a cement hole in our backyard and a huge mess. The grass is totally torn up, standing water in the pool hole and in the trenches they have dug. And the water is now breeding mosquitoes. We signed our contract on April 21, and we are closing in on three months and there's no pool. I think the worst thing is that no one at Anthony & Sylvan cares, as no one will ever return phone calls. Also, I have never seen the guy who is supposed to be our construction manager. Literally, I have never seen this guy.
Also, we contracted for the pool to be 7-foot deep. When they dug the hole and put in the gunite, they realized it was only 5.5 feet. They also cut our FiOS line, leaving us without cable, internet, and phone for until Verizon could come out. And after signing our original contract and depositing our downpayment, they informed us that they couldn't do the job for that amount and hit us with another $1,500.
They promised that we would be swimming on July 4, 2010. We are nowhere close to swimming in our backyard despite 2 1/2 months since we signed our contract. Our dogs are unable to go into the backyard, and our kids also can't play out there. Weather is not a problem as last week was the only real week that we had any real rain. Prior to last week, we only had 8 days where we had any rain, and many of those days, it was a "trace" according to the League City Weather office.

I am disabled and asked for an ADA compliant therapy pool. They know nothing about Americans with Disability Act guidelines. I had to get them to carry a wheelchair out to the sidewalk frame to prove that 27" is not enough for a chair to turn around. They also left off the curved safety coping, which makes a place to grip at the edge of the pool, instead using flat bull nose brick. They want to pour our decking 2" below the original patio threshold they tore out. The doors are suspended above the cement with no way for the wheelchair to get in and out.
The rest of my story is similar to the others. No customer service, slow to respond, now that the money is paid, lots of promises never put in writing, damage to drainage and sprinkler systems, poor communication with project manager, and revisions without putting them in writing. Extra cost to us for everything they messed up. We still don't have our decking poured and our neighbors are getting tired of all this, too. We are still hoping for a good resolution to the pool problems. I and my paralyzed brother are looking forward to aquatic therapy in our own yard. At this point we are waiting to hear from the Houston Office for 'support'.
Everything is on hold. They are to pour a pad with footers for Olshan Foundation at the same time as the decking, $2000. They want $600 to replace a rain drain they crushed. This was to be paid from the 'bobcat' not being used. They want extra for steps and rails to make the spa accessible, they were not drawn on plans but requested originally. They want extra to pour a ledge for the thresholds. My sprinkler system is completely compromised and is not usable. I am on a fixed income. I refinanced my home and acquired a second mortgage to pay for this medically necessary pool/spa. I am single and feel overwhelmed by their way of doing business.
Follow up to original complaint. It is 08/30/2010 and our pool is still just tile and granite. The project manager quit and a new man is in. They lost our permit package showing all the notes and changes. Both spa and pool did not pass plumbing inspection after it was granited and just last week was jack hammered and repaired. They have been dragging their feet getting us a final cost amount and dropped a side contract with Olshan foundation after it was half finished. So now we have a 15' x 25' open area with rebar on it and no concrete. This company is horrible.

Where do I begin? Our pool is a mess and it should have been a haven for our family. Once the contract was signed and money exchanged hands, they were no where to be found. The "in-house crews" must only work one day a month (there are no in-house crews).
The schedule to complete it was 45 days and it has been 8 months! We are now in litigation and I cannot divulge further details other than to implore you to run as far away as possible from these people. Their customer service is "non-existent" and the corporate office is "non-responsive."

Much like the others, I have had nothing but the worst experience dealing with A&S. Our experience began in 2007. Initially, it was good. Our pool designer Brian ** was great. The first part of the build and design was a quick 2-week turnaround. Then when concrete was to be poured and inspection of the driving board happened, we had to fire our project manager, because he was unresponsive and did not know the proper tools to use and delayed inspection by a week.
Due to the delay, we did not get a plaster crew out there for days. When they finally showed up on a Saturday morning as a nice gesture by A&S, they were hung over, sleeping in the job and throwing plaster all over each other. My entire job was completed in 29 days which was great. But I think because they rushed, the plaster was the worst we/they have ever seen. The tile and grout look as if they had been in the pool for 10 years. We immediately started contacting A&S and demanding answers and someone to fix the plaster. We also had a mosaic dolphin put in, and it was crooked. I spoke to anyone and everyone--calling, emailing, leaving voice mails, threatening to seek legal counsel and sue.
Finally, Jim ** came out and inspected the plaster and did determine that it was their obligation to re-plaster my new pool. It was arranged that they would do this opening in 2008, and I was also promised a $100 gift certificate which I never got. We had issues with the re-plaster as well. The team did not show up with a new mosaic dolphin, and the pool went over 4 hours without continuous water fill. So again, I emailed and called to report the issues, and again, the plaster looks awful and the tiles were starting to pull away from the grout, crack, and break.
I contacted them again opening 2009, and finally, someone came out and inspected the plaster and determined it has what's called Iron Pyrite. And if it does not take of itself in 3 years, they are supposed to, but nothing on my broken tiles. There was supposed to be on a work request for 2010 season. In May 2010, I contacted them again about the broken tiles, and still since May, I have had no response. I will keep trying to call and email.

After spending $56k+, the pool's tile began to fall off. The electrical system was also inoperable. When I tried to contact the company (which fled out of Ohio), they said that the pool shell was covered and that I was basically out of luck. I now have this monster in my backyard for 10 years and regret every minute of the decision to put this pool in. This was supposed to be a haven for my family, but instead, our free time is spent on repairs to the pool.
Every year, I must enlist a tile person to repair the coping and tiles that have fallen off. We cannot allow children in the pool for fear of the sides (coping) could fall off on them. The top skimmers were never usable, because they cemented around them too much, leaving the opening for the flaps too small for them. Future repairs will run into the thousands, and frankly, I do not have the money to sink $10K or more into this.

We paid approximately $28K for our pool. It was the worst experience. The year it was installed, our concrete cracked all around the pool. We called Anthony Sylvan who passed it along to the concrete installer who said they came out and looked at it, and never heard another word. All of our concrete has cracked, and crumbled all along our pool. Our coping along the edges is breaking away and has been since we purchased the pool in 2001. It has been the worst experience ever. Anthony Sylvan has never helped us with any issues and has basically left us for dead! All this money is down the tubes. We were also promised a market umbrella when we purchased the pool and never received that either.

I have a pool that was installed by Anthony & Sylvan a few years ago. It has been difficult to maintain and we finally gave up two years ago and hired a "pool boy." Ultimately, we have discovered that the plumbing has never been connected to the main drain of the pool so we have been filtering from the skimmer and spa only. Of course, no one will so much as return our calls, so here we sit with no idea how to even begin to fix it. Avoid this company at all costs. They are unbelievably worthless.

We had a pool built with numerous problems. They broke the neighbors fence, caused problems with his drainage, etc. They "completed" the pool end of August but we figured out we had never seen a final inspection from the City. When we called them then ordered the inspection which failed approx 3 or 4 times before it finally passed in Nov. They are now telling us the warranty starts when they apply the interior finish! We had them out recently and they drained the pool into our neighbor’s yard which is against city code.
They left a pump in the pool draining water and there was NO water left in it and at the same time left me a voice message that the "repairs were complete and the pool was refilled". The service has been non-existent. I finally got my neighbor’s yard and fence fixed by showing up at their office and not taking no for an answer after numerous emails and phone calls. They have been horrible to work with. The foreman that built our pool no longer works for them "due to issues" like ours but the entire company seems to have the same attitude. Once they get all of your money it is customer NO service.

Problems with Anthony and Sylvan from the first deposit check! There are too many to name here. So if anyone can tell me if any of their problems were resolved, I'd love to hear it! First off, I was referred to this company by my builder's salesperson, Joe ** of Katy, which I later found out they probably got a referral fee for my $40,000 custom pool that I paid cash for! This was to be a 6-8 week start to finish job which took more like 4 months with a lot of not showing up. It took them 6 tries to find a tile that they "had enough of", to name some of the issues (this took me 6 visits to the office to pick out more tiles when they found they didn't have enough). Start with the mosaic tiles at the bottom in the shape of a dolphin. A dark shadow started to form around the back and sides of the tiles. Over time this got darker and worse.
The service manager sends out the builders to drain, cut the dolphin out and insert another one. I told them, "Won’t this ruin the look of the settled gunite if you put a new one in?” “Nah, it'll settle right back in over time,” he says! The dolphin now looks horrible until I get the entire bottom of my pool replastered, which will be no time soon! If you can get a visual, the dolphin now sits a little lower in the concrete instead of matching right up to the surface of the pool! Shall I go on? Sure, why not!
When my pool was done there was a pipe sticking out from the deck next to the spa. It took many stubbed toes and complaints before they came out and cut the pipe out of the ground, which in turn left a rusty metal hole in the deck! How do you think they tried to "fix" that? Well, they came and poured acid over the hole to "clean" the rust away and then proceeded to fill the hole with gray concrete (my decking is a beige color). Well, the concrete oozed all over and made a mess and of course did not last long. Over time the rust from inside the ground has eaten that concrete away and now the hole is back with the rust and all! There are many other holes around the decking where the pebbles come out and leaves a hole where kids are stubbing toes and stepping on pebbles!
Why am I wasting my breath even complaining when I know they will do nothing to rectify any of these problems I'm reading here? It just sucks to give a company $40,000 cash and be stuck with something not even worth that! I recommend Quest Pools to anyone building! Anthony and Sylvan needs to be shut down!

I found my less than 2 year old pool to be leaking. I also found my Ozone producing box to be not producing. I called my pool builder Anthony-Sylvan, and they proceeded to tell me to get a leak detection company to come out and find the leak, which cost me $300. The leak was located and the bid was $625. A-S says to fix it and if the leak is in the wall, we'll cover it. I accepted that as stuff happens, settling and freezes etc. Once opened, the culprit was a pipe not glued properly.
Wow. No joy from A-S. Not covered after 1 year is poor workmanship. Next, why put a rubber check valve right next to chlorine dispenser? Not only does it not make sense, it causes water to go back up the tube and destroy a $350 ozonator. So total fix due to uncovered poor workmanship was $1200. Sorry, I expected more from a $30,000 investment in my home. What next? Who knows, it is only 2 years old!

I am the second owner of the house as of May 14th, 2009. The original owner was the person to purchase this pool from Anthony and Sylvan. I recently, as of 09/05/09, has some settling of my pavers around the drain pipe from the pool. I called out a paving company to remove them and tell me what is happening. I was told by the paving company that the pool piping was installed and the dirt replaced. However, the area was not water-piped properly to keep the area from eroding.
I called Anthony and Sylvan on Saturday, the 12th of September 2009 and received a call from them on Monday, the 14th. I started to tell what was going on and as soon as I told this guy that the pavers were sinking because of the area not being properly water-piped, he went off on the phone on his tangent. He told me that the paver company was not qualified to make that kind of comment. Now, he does not even know what company came out to fix the problem. Then, he went on about what they are not covering and what they will not do. He was very rude and disrespectful, which left me in awe about how unprofessional they can be.
He even told me that he should not talk to me at all because I am not the original purchaser and that he has not reason to continue the phone conversation. He then rudely says, "I will tell you what we cover but it will do you no good." So, he begins to tell me what is covered, which all he could say is cracks. Well, nothing about the surface coating being applied incorrectly or water seeping through the concrete, just cracks.
Now, I understand that I may be liable for some things since the pool was put in around August or September of 2006. He told me that I cannot even have the warranty information because the original owner only have 5 years where he can transfer the warranty over to me from the original install date. I may be wrong but August or September of 2006 to September of 2009 is nowhere near 5 years.
All I can say is please don't waste your time with a pool company of this character. You are investing a lot of money for something you should enjoy for years to come and if something was to go wrong, then you have to deal with this headache. The warranty is supposed to be in place to make it painless and to get something corrected. However, it is just there to get the company exposure that "they stand behind their products." Well, don't be fooled. I will not use them in the future for any pools that I may want in any of my future homes.

Stay away from these people! The complaints are all the same, and I can add mine to theirs. There's no supervision and trash everywhere. They tore up my entire backyard and left me with 2.5 years of headaches. Every year when the pool is opened, there are missing tiles, the pool cover is messed up (It is automatic.), the spa is trashed, and the people from the company who shut it down from the winter always forget something. Their response is "Not my fault" or "Not covered. Call another division." We were stupid, for going with these guys. Check your local people first. They at least can be gotten a hold of, and if they mess up, you can get some restitution.

I entered a contract to purchase a pool with Anthony & Sylvan in April 2009. Here it is, mid-August and I still do not have a pool. Contract states that pool will be completed 50 days from breaking ground which was 5/13/2009. I am so upset with these people I don't even know where to begin to describe the heartache I feel when I look at the giant hole in my yard that was my summer dream. Now, to make it worse, they deck person who works for Anthony & Sylvan poured my desk - it cracked - and now they don't want to fix it. The desk cost me about $10k. I paid $34k for pool and I don't have one. Please help me.

They sold us and we feel like a couple of fools! My husband and I are in the process of finishing a pool with Anthony & Sylvan Swimming Pools. Our first mistake was to use them. Houston has been incredibly hot with just a mere trace of rain so A-S cannot use this as an excuse. We signed our contract based on a maximum of 6 weeks completion. We are 10 weeks into the pool and it is not complete. They are virtually non-responsive once you sign the contract and pay your deposit. That goes for the "oh so friendly" salesman as well as the #1 PM in the region. Quite frankly, they both lie through their teeth.
We have lived with an increasing section of our backyard filled with construction debris which just gets bigger day by day. All the trades that come to your home leave all of their trash behind in your yard, construction debris and food debris. A-S response was, "Leave it, I will make them come and clean it up." No one showed up.
The main issue is the lack of supervision in the quality and progress of the subcontractors by A-S. It just doesn't exist. And they continue to lie about it! As of this morning, my pool is scheduled to be plastered this Friday, Aug. 15th. The final clean up was supposed to be done today. Again, no exaggeration, A-S has once to inspect or look at the pool for integrity. We have a plumber who screwed up the sprinkler system in our front yard. A-S says, "not our problem." One of the electricians fell through our garage ceiling - A-S says not our problem.
We will live through this and learn from our stupidity. We will never recommend Anthony & Sylvan nor will we use them at our other properties.

I am the President of a High-End Landscape Design and Installation company. Our firm has been serving the Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware area since 1984. For many years, we referred our clients to Sylvan Pools, now Anthony and Sylvan, headquartered in Doylestown, PA. Since we thought so well of them, we even had them install a pool at our own home about 11 years ago. We always talked them up, about being the best company to call, when our clients would tell us they were interested in getting a pool, and we have given A&S many excellent referrals over the past 20 plus years.
Well, let me tell you, these days, Anthony & Sylvan has become the one pool company from which you should run as fast as possible! Under the leadership of Jerry Strauss, who is their Vice president and General manager for the Northeast Division, this company has lost its way, and has been on a downhill slide. Maybe it is a result of the downturn in the economy, but they are now routinely trying to find ways to cheat their subcontractors, and not stand behind them, rather than focusing on building a quality product. These guys are nothing but a bunch of clowns! Through their own arrogance and stupidity, they have lost the ability to attract and keep the best quality subcontractors, who are the backbone of any good pool company. Like the saying goes, garbage in garbage out! I highly doubt that this company is going to be around for very much longer, at least in the Mid-Atlantic region. Warning! Stay away from Anthony & Sylvan Pools! Beware! Don't buy a pool from them. You will only regret it!

Do not use this pool company! They will lie to you throughout the entire process of building your pool. Do not believe what they tell you, unless you get it in writing. They tell you one thing and do something (or nothing) else. We've been waiting for them to finish repairs on our pool for the past 2 weeks, but nobody will show up. They also will not return calls. As far as I can tell, they won't ever finish our pool; and we'll have to hire another contractor to finish what they won't show up to do. Tim (the construction manager) was rude and too busy to do a good job. Dave (salesman) lied about numerous things and was extremely unprofessional (bad language, inappropriate conversations). Nobody else from A&S will call us back about getting the job done, either.
We were warned to not use Anthony & Sylvan by another pool contractor. We thought maybe he was just trying to get us to use his pool company instead. We should have listened to the warning, because our experience has been troubling. We will never use this company nor refer any friends to use Anthony & Sylvan ever again.

I contacted A&S and spoke with a sales rep, who was a very good salesperson. We were told that they used their own employees to build pools and that the heavy equipment is owned by A&S. All of this turned out to be a lie. The hole was dug quick, but everything after that turned into a disaster. We were told on multiple occasions that people would be out to correct problems or get started on the next phase. We were absolutely lied to. All we received were excuse after excuse. Finally, we had had enough. They wanted their money, and that was all that they cared about.
The straw that broke the camel's back is when no one showed up at our house for over a week and we were told that the deck builder would be out on Thursday. He even came out and told my wife that he would be out the next morning (Thursday). It was a no show. We called and got no response from our salesperson's construction manager.
On Friday, I finally got ahold of our sales rep the following day. After I asked where the deck guy was, who was supposed to be out yesterday, he said, "I'm not a ** babysitter to a grown man." I asked where our construction manager was, and he said that they had just finished laying out and measuring a pool that they had just sold. He said that he would talk to the manager and call me back. Of course, there's no phone call back. I guess that they were drinking a few beers after measuring the new pool that they had just sold.
On Saturday afternoon after no shows again, I called the sales rep, fired A&S, and told them to stay off my property. Of course when that happened, everyone under the sun started calling me. I was just told that today they were going to enforce the contract on me and go legal. This is what you can expect from this company. Do not hire Anthony & Sylvan Pools! Run!

We decided to buy our pool from Anthony and Sylvan because of the wonderful promises of quality workmanship. Wrong! We had problems from the beginning. 50/50 they told us - half-built in the fall, and the finish in the early spring. It was August before we passed inspection. It was a horrible experience. Our pool deck had to be dug out, and the replacement is inferior. Calling A&S was a joke. After three years, the tile began to sliver or chip out. Having called A&S, we were told that the tile was a three-year warranty. Our warranty expired May; I called in June. This year, the tiles have chipped out enormously. I personally believe that the tiles were defective. Anthony and Sylvan will not be accountable for this nightmare. We're not sure just how much the tiles will cost to replace, but something needs to be done.
The customer service is awful! It seems that their representatives are reading from a script. There has been no result when contacting them. Oh yes, our pool light stopped working within three years. They sent someone to fix it when no one was at home to check behind them. The pool light still does not work; it is stuck between the colors red and clear. Terrible! My advice, never buy from Anthony and Sylvan. My husband and I have concluded that we can't make or break them, but we will never recommend them to anyone. Run when you hear Anthony and Sylvan Pool. Do not do business with them. I, too, believe that there should be a class action suit against this company. They should be liable to pay for their shoddy workmanship.

Within 1.5 years after having a pool designed and built by Anthony & Sylvan, the tile surrounding the SPA started falling off. The warranty period was 1 year and Anthony & Sylvan refused to correct the problem. Also, they mounted the pool controller equipment directly above the pool heater causing the enclosures to melt. Shoddy workmanship is also not covered by their warranty. We hired a pool repair contractor, who showed us how the tile was installed incorrectly. Tile replacement, water (23k gallons) and pool chemicals cost approximately $1,500.

Built the pool in 2006 by Anthony and Sylvan. They took almost one year to build the small in-ground pool. Why? Because the project manager quietly left the company and no one told us. They allowed weeks to months to pass by and when we'd call to ask about the delays, they would tell us that everything was going according to schedule. We only found about that because one other employee admitted that our project was way off schedule because the project manager had left several months ago.
It gets worse. We were sold an expensive stone coping for our saltwater pool. Within months, the coping started falling apart. It turns out that saltwater corrodes this stone. Now the company states that you can't have this stone coping and a saltwater pool, but they didn't tell us that upfront. They are stating that they will replace the stones and that they will likely corrode again, but that we're on our own. They have also offered to change from a saltwater system to an ozone system, but ozone is far inferior and no one uses it in the US. Now Anthony & Sylvan is ignoring our calls and it looks like we'll have to get legal. Do not use this company.

The salt generator broke. I called A & S - no response. The next year, the heater broke. I called for months; no one ever came out. They use Audobon Cesco to take care and service the pool. No response from them. Now, my salt system is not working, and it has affected my pool in every way. I called and no response. I would never ever recommend Anthony & Sylvan Pools. Ever!

The pool was installed in May of 1999. When any company demands cash or certified check for final payment prior to plastering, you know you’re in trouble. Of course the plaster job was of low workmanship. Within 1 year, the decking on the end sank 1 inch below the coping. Within 3 years, the tile started falling off. Each year, except 1, I had to replace 70 to 100 tiles. This year more than half the tiles fell off and I can pull up 1/4 of the coping. I'm getting estimates of $8K to $13K. Of course, I will never recommend this company.

I had my 41,000-dollar pool installed in the fall of 2003. I went with a cement and plaster pool because of the expected longevity of this type of product over a liner pool. The problems with the heater started within a week of install. The authorized service team spent more time at my house than I did for the first year. After 2 years, I had the heater completely replaced at a cost of 2000 dollars despite a 10-year warranty from the company on these components.
Within 2 years, cracks started to appear in the plaster and I was told that as long as water was not leaking, it was normal. By the time one of those cracks bubbled and broke exposing the cement liner, I was told that my 3-year warranty on plaster had expired. I recently received a quote for 10,000 dollars to replaster the pool. I'm not even mentioning the numerous grout repairs I have made to the spa. The pool light also stopped changing colors after 4 years and I replaced the control pad by the spa last year as well. I can't wait for pool opening this year to see what else will go wrong.
The company is completely unwilling to stand by the product and stand by the 3-year warranty. It is completely shocking that this company is still in business. I tell people who are looking to put in a pool to either go with someone else or join a community pool.

I've been a Realtor since 1986, and have always boasted Anthony Sylvan Pools. One of my long time friends worked there for years. I naturally ordered my pool through him. The problems started from Day 1. Delays: I was told pool would be finished by beginning of summer. It was delivered August 29, 2005. No shows: Countless times, they never showed up and I even had my own electrician do the electrical after 4 missed appointments by Anthony Sylvan's. He finally showed up as if nothing happened, only to find the job was done.
Cracks: Pool opened the first year in 06; it looked great. In 07, Anthony Sylvan came out to open and said it looked great. I walked out after they finished only to find numerous cracks throughout the deep end, steps area and small cracks throughout. Why didn't he see it? The Anthony Sylvan guy spent 10 minutes watching the Polaris while smoking his cigarette, of which the butt was thrown on the ground.
Warranty: I was told Lifetime Warranty when purchased. Now they tell me it has to leak first, and it's only 3 years. Staff: They had more people quit, get fired during the process that you never spoke to the same guy twice. They also sent me a letter stating cracks were structural and pool needed replacement. The following year 08, they missed the date to replace. Otherwise my pool would have been torn up all season. So they pushed to Fall 08, at which time they said cracks were not structural. They finally came out, ripped out half my pool and I haven't seen them since. It is now March 09. Also, I had structural engineer fail the pool when he saw the rebar was not high enough.
Other pools: I sold 4 pools for Anthony Sylvan the same year. 2 of 4 have the cracking problem and need the pools replaced, 3 of 4 hated dealing with them and had problems and 1 of 4 was satisfied. Bottom line - don't walk from them, RUN.

In 1995, Anthony Pools designed and built a pool for me. Starting in 1998, I noticed a rust color coming up from under my deck. I contacted Anthony Pools, and they said it was from the berries of my palm trees. In 2003 and 2004, I contacted Anthony and Sylvan Pools because the deck was cracking where the rust spots were originally. Large chunks of concrete are breaking off all around the deck was exposing the rusted rebarb under the deck. I called 2 other pool contractors to give estimates to fix the problem. I was told that we would have to tear out the entire deck because the deck concrete was not to code. It was not poured to the 2-inch requirement. At the spots now broken, the rebarb is not even 1/2 inch from the top.
I called 2 other pool contractors to get estimates from $25,000 to $40,000 because the entire deck needs to be torn out and replaced correctly. I will loose the stone and spillway work along with the tile around the inside of the pool, which means that the pool needs to be re-plastered as well. I contacted Anthony and Sylvan pools today and was told that they do not have a warranty on the deck.

We had our pool built in 2003 and paid around $32,000 for it. We had problems from the start. We should have known when the very first appointment we made with them to come to our home, they never called and never showed up! But when we called them, they came out the next week and made great promises! We fell for it. Then, it took months and months to complete. We had to call them so many times to even get them to come out! At one point, they had to completely redo our decking after it was formed, and the sand and rebar put in because they had not correctly surveyed the height of a building we have next to the deck. Once they were finally finished, the coping began to crack and pull away almost immediately. Then we had problems with one of the pumps. They came out and redid the coping and replaced the pump.
We have since replaced various parts again ourselves. Then the cracking of the plaster and decking began! It started as a small crack from the steps, and now it is cracked through the decking, the coping and one whole side of our decking has sunk about 3-4 inches from our patio. We have all tripped over that step down, as have our guests, and have had to place a large pot there to keep people from falling on it! As I have read in other complaints, the same plaster people have been out four times, and it looks horrible! They have filled in the cracks with large globs of something, and now there are large seams all over our pool. The cracks are everywhere. We have called and called, and never receive a call back. You get someone's voicemail when you call. We must constantly put water in our pool due to all these cracks. This is our first (and last) pool. It has been a terrible experience from the start. I would never recommend A&S to anyone!
The mental frustration this has caused is the the worst. We constantly worry about getting this investment fixed like it was promised. It has been horrible! Let alone the money we have spent adding water and extra chemicals to our pool. We must constantly be aware of the 3-4 inch drop on our deck from our patio, as we have all tripped on it and so have our guests! This alone is a physical danger!

Well, I am going to be brief here. After reading all of the other stories about Anthony & Sylvan on here, I learned that mine fits right in. From the start, the whole project just sucked. They broke ground on 12/17/07 and it's now 1/30/09, and still screwed up. The pool actually functions okay. The problem I'm having is the plaster company, Uno Plastering, out of Houston. They keep sending the same guys doing the same shotty work. My pool is going on its 5th plaster job. Finally today, I told them that if that was the only plaster crew they had, I don't trust him and I don't want him back. I stopped all work and am seeking a lawyer and an engineer.
All I want is a quality pool like they promised. The warranty guy, Daryl, was actually trying to help me and he too was getting aggravated with the whole deal. But if they keep using the same contractor, they are going to get the same results. I think we should all try to act together and stand up to them. I'm going to try. Wish me luck. If anyone reads this and wants to help, I will gladly give them my 14-month story.

This isn't a complaint but a compliment. I just wanted to say that Anthony & Sylvan replaced my cracked coping and did a nice job. It took a bit of nagging on my part but they did eventually come out and do it. In all fairness to this company, they put in a nice pool. Our only problem was with the coping and heater and they stood behind both.

In Texas. We bought a house with a pool built by Anthony/Sylvan. The pool has developed cracks in the pool and rusting on the deck. We brought in an independent adjuster to look at the problem and he told us it was due to substandard materials and shoddy workmanship. We called A&S and were told that the pool was out of warranty! The pool was built in 2006!!!! What the hell!! They are not a reputable company and we hired a independent contractor to fix it. Needless to say he found more problems! Beware of this company! There are better ones out there. Postscript! October 27, 2008. In calling the office Anthony and Sylvan Pools, Austin, I have found that the fellows I was talking too are all gone! Quit - Fired - I do not know! Now The corporate office is the only option and they are in PA! This company has gone from really bad to worse than bad in customer service!

We bought a house with a pool built by Anthony and Sylvan in 2006. The pool has cracked and the deck is rusting through the concrete. We brought in an independent adjuster and he told us that he has seen this before from this company. He told us they use substandard materials and shoddy workmanship. We already knew that! I called Anthony/Sylvan to get the pool repaired and was told that it was out of warranty!!!! After 2 years!! What the hell!! Needless to say, we hired an independent contractor to fix the problem and he only found more!! Buyer beware of this company! There are better.

Our pool was installed about 4 years ago. In the second year, we noticed white calcium on the surface of the coping and tiles. A & S didn't say it was a problem. In the third year, A & S repaired the tiles that had come loose by the spillway between the pool and the spa and said they'd never come loose again.
We're now in our 4th year and more tiles have come loose and I learn that A & S no longer does tile repair. I've had 3 tile repair companies come to do estimates and they inform me that most of the tiles and coping are loose and that it will cost $6,000 to fix and that it will continue to happen year after year.

Our pool was plastered April 5, 2007. By August we noticed small cracks through out the entire pool. We were leaking water at 3 per week. This has been from day one in our pool. We contacted A&S and they said regarding the cracks that there was nothing they could do unless we were losing water. Ummm... 3 per week is a bit much for evaporation. We'll make a note in your file, is what we were told by a lady in the Warranty Department.
Fast forward to when we opened our pool this year. In March we realized the cracks had gotten MUCH worse and called. Their one and only plaster expert was supposed to come out and look at the pool numerous times, but he never showed, never called, and each time it was pushed off for another two weeks by A&S. When the pool was opened, the water started leaking again. We strongly suspect it is in the plumbing, but of course no one will come out and look at the pitting and cracking plaster or the leak. We have called, yelled and screamed, talked nicely, and of course, in typical Anthony & Sylvan fashion, no one will return phone calls. No one answers the phone when you call and just today someone was supposed to come out and look at the plaster yet again.
The consequences thus far is a water bill that shows we are filling 10,000 gallons of water per month (versus the winter months when we aren't), plus the fact that since we put this pool in to be part of our entertaining during the summer months, all of our guests say, What happened to your pool? when they see the cracks and chips in our plaster.
We want to be reimbursed for our increased water bills, we want our pool replastered, and we want the leak fixed. If I thought we could get our $41,000 back I'd ask for that too; However, at this point just the repairs to our brand new pool would be nice. We have several friends and family members putting pools in this summer and after all of the trouble we've had with Anthony & Sylvan, thankfully they're going with another pool company.

Lower skimmer stopped working in 2004. Called and was told it would cost upwards of $10,000 to fix it along with the tiles that were coming off. We spent 1 day and less than $100 to replace the crimped flexible pipe with solid pipe. In 2007 the other skimmer stopped working. We spent 2 days and over $150 to dig out and replace the crimped flexible pipe with solid pipe. It isn't rocket science to figure that bending flexible pipe in the shape of a 'U' is eventually to crimp with heavy rocks and clay on top of it.
The pool lights never worked for the previous owner (he had it put in) or for us. We tried remedies suggested by other pool companies. We are sure we'll have to dig up the lines to fix their shoddy electric work. We would never use Anthony Sylvan for a new pool or to repair an existing pool. They price themselves so high for repair work because they probably don't want the work.

We paid $23,000 to have our inground pool refurbished with Anthony & Sylvan in 2006. We opened the pool in 2007, 9 months after they completed the work and the entire perimeter of the pool was cracked just above the tile. After so many phone calls and missed appointments I lost count, someone came in May 2008 to fix the cracks. the cracks are still there and now the tile is falling off! Anthony & Sylvan talk a good talk but don't deliver in areas such as craftsmanship, customer service, follow-up, truthfulness - I WOULD NEVER EVER RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE!
The pool is still cracked and now tiles are falling off. Our house is on the market and not showing well because of the condition of the pool. I want all of my money back - all $23,000 of it!

Pool Construction August-October 2007. Numberous problems, very poor workmanship. Leaks, crooked tile, undermined deck. Repairs always resulted in further damage. The Texas A&S website proudly represents that every pool they design and build has their tile of distinction installed. I called and wrote demanding my tile if their work truly meets their quality standards.
They never installed it, refused to install saying it was no longer their policy, 6 months later they still advertise this. They owe me a quality pool with their tile.
I want a quality pool consistent with the published A&S website and their quality tile that represent they install.

I paid $69,000 to install a pool. It started in September of 2006. It is now June 2008 and is still not completed. I have had to beg to get them to do anything done on this pool. I would never use this company for anything.
They destroyed my irrigation system by driving large equipment across the yard right after a large rain storm. This cost over $9000 to replace. I am having to pay an electrician $1500 to replace the wiring to the pool which was done incorrectly. It was installed 6 inches underground without a conduit to cover it. I am having to pay another company to install the cover gromets and make a cover for the pool despite the fact I've already paid to have this done.
I would never use this company for anything. There are a lot of other companies that provide as good a product without the hassel.

January 10, 2008 Ive got a price quote by technician, Brian Colosimo, on air blower, Jandy Aqualink R56, and Jandy Aquapure chlorinator installation. February 8, 2008 Anthony and Sylvan charged deposit of $2219.76.00 March 10, 2008 Scheduled installation delayed. Anthony and Sylvan didnt received equipment yet. April 9, 2008 Brian Colosimo installed part of the equipment. He brought the wrong air blower. Blower installation rescheduled for May 13. He installed the rest of the equipment and left wires completely entangled. Complete mess. April 10, 2008 I made pictures of the wiring and sent it to Even Schwartz and Mike Meroney. They agreed that it was a mess and promised that during next visit tech will fix it. Even Schwartz is a manager, Mike Meroney, I guess, is a dispatcher. April 11, 2008 Anthony and Sylvan charged rest of the money - $1762.00
May 9, 2008 I got a voicemail from lady named Ronda at 4:00PM (from Anthony and Sylvan) that Technician will be on Monday May 12. Couldnt reschedule because it was Friday, and nobody at Anthony and Sylvan picks up the phone after 4:00PM even though they are open until 5:00PM. Luckily I had off day on Monday. I think Ronda is Mikes replacement. May 12, 2008 It was raining very hard that day. Brian Colosimo started filter system and explained how it works. I had to listen to him under the rain. Wiring wasnt fixed, and blower wasnt installed because of rain. Brian promised that somebody from the A&S office will call me and schedule the next appointment. I never received a phone call from them.
May 19, 2008 My son called the Anthony and Sylvan office to schedule next appointment. Ronda scheduled it on Friday, May 23, 2008. May 23, 2008 Nobody appeared or called. No apologies. May 30, 2008 I called in the A&S office trying to schedule another appointment on June 10, 2008. I planned to be off work that day. Talked to Ronda about 20 minutes trying to agree on some date. Finally agreed that technician will come on the same day after 2:00PM. My son was home that day. Nobody came, nobody called. Nobody ever apologized. June 6, 2008 Writing this letter to send it to the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, Howard County Office of Consumer Affairs, Anthony and Sylvan Customer Service, Jandy Customer service. A&S staffs rude, devious and unprofessional. the job is still not completed!

We signed a contract with Anthony Sylvan Pools on December 2007 to have a swimming pool and a spa built.Everything was going very well until pool was filled on April 9, 2008. We were losing more than an inch of water a day. They were immediately notified, but nothing was done for at least 2 weeks, that's when they sent a diver to locate leak, on April 22. WE were never informed of his findings, nor did they do anything else. On or about May 24, they finally sealed a light fixture. We have sent numerous e-mails, as well as voice messages regarding our other complaints, like remote control not working properly, there is a stain in the bottom of pool at the deep end; we continue to have water loss at a rate of about 1.5 inches to 2 inches per week. That water loss has started to create excessive erosion around pool, more noticeably in the area behind the light fixture that was sealed.
Our contract allows for first month of maintenace, and they only showed up twice, but only to add salt not to clean pool. We just realized that the block wall that they knocked down to gain access to our property has cracked, and that they used a completely different color material. They also failed to provide a list of authorized service companies (we do not want to use just any company for fear that it may void any warranty on equipment), but pool has gone unserviced, despite our many request to get a list of Service contractors. They have stopped responding to our E-Mails and voice messages. They have also failed to provide a signed release forms, as per stated on our contract. It is extremely frustrating not to be able to speak to anyone about our many complaints, and/or questions.
There is still water loss, (about 1.5-2 inches) per day, remote control seems not to be working properly, which creates a problem every time we try to use either pool or spa, just to get jets to work in spa sometimes takes up to 10 minutes because remote keeps disconnecting. Erosion has caused soil level to be uneven and we had just spend a couple of thousand dollars on new lawn. Wall with crack on it must be repaired as soon as possible

I purchased a pool in 2003 for 50K. It was completed in August and closed in September for the season. The first year open (2004) pool cracked. After many promises and missed appointments they finally arrived 14 months later in June 2005 to fix cracks. In 2006 when pool was open it was cracked so bad that i could insert my fist through a hole between the pool and the SPA. It took all year to get this fixed, whicjed required a weel of jackhammering off the entire plaster finish. then jackhammering into the concrete base. When the pool opened in 2006, its cracked again. 90% repaired that year. In 2007 when pool was opened it was cracked again. fixed again.
In 2008 the pool is cracked again when it was opened May 30th. In 5 years I have not have the vacation in my yard promised in the literature but 5 seasons of apool out of service while I fight with them to finish. In 2007 I filed a complaint with the NJ consumer consumer protection division. Even with the New jersey Division of consumer protection I continue to fight to get these people to respond. This was absolutley the worst purchase decision I have ever made. They use a system of automated phone directing to keep from having to speak with their customers.

Two years of dealing with cracks in my pool. October 2007 Anthony Sylvan finally agreed it was a warranty issue and they would fix the pool first thing in spring of 2008. This spring they don't even know who I am. After much calling and emailing, they reinspected my pool, and once again tell me it is a warranty item and they will repair it. I have all this in writing.
However it is now 5/19/08 and every time they say they are going to come repair my pool (3 times now) no one shows up. And when I contact them they just give me a new date (another week later) and just say there's nothing they can do about the schedule. By the way they're ispector Terry said this is only a weeks worth of work.

I paid over $50,000 for a new pool. It started from the first sales meeting, I was promissed the pool would be started in April 2006 and paid 1/3 deposit. After a number of calls to the installation team they finally started in July 2006.
I was told I wouldn't need a retaining wall but when they started to dig it was a 5 ft ledge dropping into the decking. I ended up having to pay over $60,000 for a retaining wall to hold back the earth from spilling into the pool.
The pool was finally completed in September 2006. I closed the pool in October to get a few more weeks out of the pool. When I opened the pool the following spring the coping was cracked, the tile was falling off around the sides and it took over 10 calls and emails to have someone fix it. They cancelled on me a number of times and I asked to speak to the GM and or the VP and they gave me the run around and passed me on to someone else (Dana) I told them the plaster was splochy and looking discolored they told me it was nothing.
I used the pool in 2007 with the intention of having them fix the plaster at the end of the season. It took over 3 months to get them to replaster the pool and I ended up keeping the pool open until December.
I opened the pool this past week and the plumbing is leaking around the filter. I called AS serice department and they told me it was not under warrentee. This is the worst company as far as customer service I have ever dealt with. I will be seaking legal advice because of all the problems I have encountered. They just don't care about thier customers, all they want is the money up front. I have refered my friends not to use them.
Pool is still not 100% the plaster is pitted and discolored. The pump is too far from the pool itself. The PVC is leaking around the filter and loosing water every day.

We signed an agreement with Anthony & Sylvan, on 6/23/05. The original contract price was 62k. We have had continual problems with the pool leaking and have on many occasions attempted to have it corrected. In fact, last year we finally contacted our attorney to try and settle this matter. He was unable to even get a response from A&S. The following is a brief overview of our history. Our early construction went extremely well, but the first concern was towards Oct. '06, when we neared completion and our final 5% payment was due. There were many open items and I spoke with the lady that handled payments, Dolores I believe. She assured me that 'they had taken care of us so far, hadn't they.'
Well, after the last payment it became extremely difficult to get any work done on the remaining punch items. We would leave calls and not get a return call but I'd say it wasn't horrible, I was determined to be patient and polite. That spring, we noticed a rather large leak coming out of the raised wall to the spa, at about 18in. and the underlying wall was 'weeping'. I called the supervisor over our construction, Rock. He came out and re-grouted the tile interior edge of the spa saying that it was most likely infiltrating from there. The leak continued. Over the next two months I continually called and could never actually speak with a person. I left multiple messages and none were returned.
I finally called the GM, Chuck. He and the construction manager, Bill, came out to look at it one Saturday morning. Bill suggested that it was water infiltration from capillary action on the stone, saying, the flow from the spa in to the pool was rather weak and so ran against the wall and was drawn in. I suggested a pressure test but they both seemed this was the likely culprit and so I didn't push further. They said they would get a contractor to come over, smooth the stone that the water flows over, from the spa and re-mortar the stone on the wall fascia, which had deteriorated as a result. I think it's important to note here that we have a salt pool and the salt does seem to cause some of it's own issues in that regard. The sandstone installed seems to be constantly 'disolving' In any event, a couple of weeks pasted and I never heard back. I had to hound them to get it going and about five weeks later it did.
I can't be certain the time intervals, they never gave me any paperwork and I didn't have the foresight to document it. I'm sure they have records though. So for several months everything appeared fine with the exception of a large buildup of calcium-like material on the tile; tile only directly under the wall. It was told to me, at the time, that was a normal thing and was only a little lime as a result of the efflorescence but to my mind resembled calcite; so hard that a pressure washer couldn't take it off. We continued to try and get other items fixed without success. We were beginning to become very, very unhappy.
Last year, I learned that Chuck was let go. In one year, they had three or four different people handling warranty work and I was told they were the only folks I could speak with. However, most of them NEVER returned my calls. A couple months after the re-grout of the wall, the leak started up again but different. Prior to the leak, I'd already noticed that the wall was weeping and the mortar was degrading over it's prior state. I called A&S without any return calls. I finally tried to reach the new GM, Pete. I left a few messages for him and finally received a return call Easter Monday(4/8) a year ago almost now. I spoke with Pete and he assured me that things were different. I was very direct with him. He told me he would take a look at our file and call me back in a couple of days. I waited and waited and finally called him a week later and left a message. He returned my call a week later and that process went on and on.
I finally called him on 5/20 and left a message saying that they had two weeks to do something or I had no choice but to contact our attorney. I received a call from him the next Monday. I spoke with him and he wanted to come out. He called back a week later and said he would be out that Friday. I told him I would meet him and he said it wasn't necessary. I called late that Friday to tell me that he wouldn't make it and would be by Saturday morning at 6:20 am. I never saw him, never heard from him again, etc. After that I contacted out attorney who contacted A&S and tried to get any sort of response without success.
So, two and half years later, we still have a leak, the mortar is ruined and the salt system they shouldn't have installed with natural stone has deteriorated all the stone. A month ago, I decided to avail myself one last time before legal preceedings. Since then I have encountered the same issues of unreturned calls, unkept promises and I have only myself to blame this time.

I signed a contracy for my pool on May 21, 2007. On June 19th, I e-mailed the customer service dept because I had not heard from anyone. Jean Studley responded back to me stating that she had forwarded my e-mail to Jay Bellar, the GM and Matt Knight, the Construction Mgr. Although my construcyion began shortly after my e-mail, another month had passes and I still had not heard from Jay or Matt. It was a wet summer, but when it was dry for 3 to 4 days and there is no work done, it is very disappointing. I waited for a week just to get the electrical work inspected and approved so they can move forward with the decking. I was told by the project manager that the coping had to be replace due to several bricks being chipped. No one showed up.
There is very poor communication about anything from this company. I really do not think it is my responsibility to call 2 days after an inspection to let them know whether the work has been approved or not. I have actually had to do this just to move things along. I was 2 weeks trying to get the brick coping replaced that was agreed to by the project manager. After getting no one out to replace the damaged brick, I contacted Bill, the sales rep. again yesterday. He came out marked and took pictures of approximately 50 brick that needs replaced. Once again, it was 3 weeks at least and no one attempted to resolve that issue. All that I received was a lot of talk from the project manager.
On August 21, 2007, I received an e-mail from Lisa Hartman stating that she would make sure all parties were aware of my problems. On August 24, 2007, I sent pictures of my coping to Jerry Strauss for him to review. Jerry reviewed them and forwarded them to Jay and asked Jay to come to my house to look at the coping. Finally on September 4, 2007, they agreed to replace all of my coping. Now, after 6 months, my pool liner became stained and very rough. I called the service department to get someone to come and look at it. After about 4 weeks they finally show up. I then receive a phone call telling me it was my fault that the liner was stained.
I contacted my sales rep again, Bill McCallister. He came out to look at my pool and agreed that it has nothing to do with my care of the pool. After several days, the service dept. manager came out and agreed to acid was my pool. Now afte the acid wash, my liner looks a lot better, but it has small holes in the plaster that collectd dirt. It also is still stained but not as bad. I have had nothing but trouble from the construction of my pool to the service department. If it wasn't for my sales rep. I probably would not be swimming in my pool today even though it still is not right. I would definitely not ever recommend Anthony Sylvan Pools to anyone.

I have read a lot of complaints about Anthony Pools on here. I just wanted to let you know that I indeed did purchase a pool from Anthony Pools and they did a fantastic job. And yes, I did choose them because of their size and stability. Why not? My last pool builder went out of business and I was stuck with a pool that had no warranty.
Everything turned out exactly the way it was supposed to. It rained a lot during the time they were building the pool and still finished it when they said they would too.

Pool was installed and have had nothing but problems since, plumbing not level, coping cracked, very poor workmanship. For $65,000 I expect a lot better work and I am not getting anywhere with phone calls. I have called and called. I am told they will call back but nothing is being done. I was told on 1/24/08 I would be called back on 1/31/08 to set up appointment for tech to come out and look at problems. I have heard nothing from them and it is 2/5/08. I have talked to several people with this company and I am not getting anywhere. I do not recommend this company to anyone.

We paid $41,500 for an in ground pool. From the first day of digging we had nothing but problems. We called numerous times and it would take days to get someone to return a call. The project manager showed up only to draw a check and never inspected any of the subcontractors work. The final outcome problem is that they installed our swimming pool light in the wrong place and it only lights up half of the pool.
It has been a nightmare trying to get anyone to listen to me, return a phone call or do anything to correct the problem. They offered me $750.00 to forget about the problem and go away. I know it will cost a lot more than that to fix it. So i told them No I want you to ccome back and fix my light. They said the same thing they always say someone will get back with you next week. We told them if they could not fix the light then we would settle for them installing a mesh cover for us. They said No Way.
What is my recourse if they now come back and tear up my finished pool, decking and new landscaping. I'm so frustrated. I do have all of my e-mail correspondence and my initial letter of complaint that I sent to the General Manager.
I have a swimming pool that is dark on one end. I was given a picture of what is would look like when the lights were on and it's not even close.

We paid in all, over $100,000 for the pool, fence and patio. They started digging the pool Feb 2007 and the pool was filled May 3rd 2007. The nightmares began then. The plaster has two giant 6 feet by 4 feet stains in it. When the fountain was turned on, it flooded the pool deck. We had a leak to the tune of 1,000 gallons a day. It took them 2-3 weeks to come out and repair it. The leak was under the pool decking and they had to break up that section of the deck.

Aside from the initial nightmare of them telling me when they will start my pool and when they actually started, the experience as a whole as been horrific. My pool is 3 months old, and aside from the splotchy looking bottom (what they call modeling, this is what happens when too much calcium is added to the plaster so that it cures faster so that the contractor can finish the pool in under 4 hours), my entire pool is pitting (tiny holes that collect dirt that can never be vacuumed out), and there are blisters on the bottom. My pool is also losing anywhere from 1 to 2 inches of water a week, I have a chipped tile and the pad that my pump sits on is not level. I am fighting to get the $40,000 pool I paid for.

Poured wrong deck. Ripped out deck and replaced. Left debris in backyard and outside of fence. Now pool is losing water. There is a leak in the plumbing and in the electrical conduit coming from the L.E.D. lights in the pool. A&S keeps sending incompetent subcontractors to fix it, and not getting resolved.

Our backyard retained water since we moved in and we decided to address the situation, part of which included putting in an in-ground pool. We picked A&S based on the claim for customer satisfaction, I wish I saw this website first! Mid-way through construction I started getting water in my finished basement for the first time ever.
I notified A&S that very night and told them if the water continued the issue would be 100% theirs to fix. I was assured it would be fine when construction was complete. Even though I paid extra money to have drains added outside the water did not stop and I had to pay another $5000 for a sump pump for the basement, as well as tear out sheet rock, paneling and tile flooring to install it which takes damages to about $16,000.

We have a crack in the plaster of our Anthony & Sylvan pool that runs from the spa to the pool. Numerous attempts to contact Anthony & Sylvan Pool to obtain warranty service as well as multiple voice messages left have been without response.

Negligence to property, mental anguish, false representation, products not delivered as promised or described by salesman. One week of work wages lost, the loss of 2 trees, damaged patio furniture, busted main sewer line, pool placement off center, pool lights do not function as promised. Is that enough?

I signed a contract with Anthony Sylvan Pools Green Brook, New Jersey office on August 28, 2006 and gave a deposit of $2500 on a pool that would cost $36,835. They never submitted paperwork for my permits until November 14, 2006; and got my permits with the township on November 31, 2007. They then decided to stop digging in December, 2006 because of bad (?) weather. Multiple times in March and April, 2007, they scheduled with me to begin excavation for the pool.

Signed contract 12/11/2006. Notice of commencement 1/26/2007. Steel & Bonding 3/14/2007. Pool deck/ pressure 4/06/2007. Aluminum Structure 5/07/2007. Electrical & final unknown. The pool shell has been used as a dumping pit. Construction debris, trash, and stagnant water are what we've had to look at for months. The Project manager is useless, won’t answer the phone unless you use a number other than yours. The whole process has been stressful.

Ron is the design consultant with A&S pools. He laid out everything and promised us many things with the pool. I should have known that his used car salesman tactics would later be trouble. To make a long story short, the pool is now finished, but has a couple of problems. One there are tiles in the pool that are upside down, and the promised items such as the child safety rope and life saving hook have never been delivered. After several calls and email to Ron and the District Manager for A&S pools, they refuse to call me back or even give me the time of day. I have filed a complaint with the BBB, but I know it will almost do no good.

My husband and I signed up to purchase an inground pool. At the initial sales call, and at the office to sign the papers, and two times after that, we had asked for rough plumbing to be put in for a future waterfall. Tim Clark, the salesman assured us at least 4x that it would be installed. Now the time has come to install it, and the plumber came & went. We heard that Tim Clark said NOT to put this in. As usual, he does not answer any phone calls or emails that I have sent.
Now all work has stopped on the pool. A&S had installed a pump in the meantime to suck out rain water, and that is shorting out some lights in the house. All we want is the rough plumbing so we can proceed with the pool instead of having a caving in gaping dirt hole in the back yard.

I had my A&S Pool renovated in June 2002 to remove and replace the coping, mastic joint and tiles. Since that time there has never been a single month that tiles have not dropped off. Warranty work is shoddy. I spend every summer on the phone endlessly trying to get the warranty work done. I was promised that my warranty work would be scheduled first this Spring. Not so again.
We were planning to sell our house at the height of the RE boom in CT but kept putting in on hold until A&S would repair the pool. Always promises never follow through.

Anthony & Sylvan Pools permit has expired and as of this date 6/5/06 the permit is still open pending a red tag from the city of cape coral for metal pools that where not grounded properly after a red tag for not appyling for a permit to replace wood poles to metal,also the customer has not received their warranty for the life time of the pool,this is in the contract and as of this date no answer from Anthony & Sylvan.

The coping around the pool keeps poping up...I just had 18 pieces that were loose, cracked, and broken. Anthony & Sylvan's contract crew only replaced 10....when I asked about the other 8, I was told air pockets, and besides, its not THAT BAD anyway. When they do replace the coping/tiles, they are not done correctly. I have talked to corporate headquartes, all the way up to reginal V.P. The coping is still coming up. This pool is 1 1/2 years old and still not finished. They continue to come out and fix the problems (one at a time).
They have been here and busted the pool apart about 12 times. I'm gettig tired of cleaning up their mess. The product quality of this pool is horrible. I have contacted a lawyer and was told there is a arbitration clause in the contract, so I'm outta luck. All I have wanted is for them to pull the coping and rebuild it right. Also, I have had 3 managers here and they all said the pool was not constructed correctly. There was no polyvoid put between the concrete deck and the coping for expansion, hence the cracking and tiles falling into the pool.

New pool that is three years old, I have had more problems than you can imagine! Cracked gunite the first year and now a slow leak since last season. Getting no where with this company so I have now contacted a lawyer but want to file a complaint and let them know that I'm not finished with them yet and would not recommend them to anyone!
No return calls and keep brushing us off... Can't get a final CO to use the pool!

We purchased a swimming pool from Anthony & Sylvan Pools in that was completed in September 2005. Within two months the plaster began staining and it was discovered the pool equipment had not been properly set onto it's foundation. The builder had crammed trash, sticks, and my personal landscaping bricks underneath it to level the foundation. It was like pulling teeth with their warranty department to do anything about my problems.
The construction manager, Brian M, proved to be very unprofessional by misleading, not returning telephone calls, and failing to supervise to make sure the work was being done properly. The warranty person, Gordon, talked down to me (at first) and tried to deflect blame from his company. It was only after I demanded service that they acted (ever so slowly). It was very obvious that they were not concerned with my problems and that they took no pride in their company or its work.
The customer service of this company is brutal, especially after they get your money. You should not have to raise a stink to get someone to do their job! I strongly recommend that a prospective pool buyer continue looking and NOT use this company. We are completely dissatisfied with them and their customer service. They will be your best friends until they get your money, then when something goes wrong, it will be your problem, not theirs! They use their great warranty as a strong selling point. What they don't tell you is how you will be treated when THEIR works fails. That so-called great warranty is a joke.
I had to hire an independat contractor to look at the pool equipment and its slab. This was after the pool company had been out 4 times, but never took care of the initial problem.

We had our pool completely renovated along wth new jets installed in the spa area. However, I have contacted Sylvan several times and sent a registered letter requesting monetary reimbursement due to several issues not addressed by Anthony & Sylvan. Firstly the pool has been leaking since the renovation. Also they sold us jets for the existing spa. We paid a substantial amount of $ but when we turn the jets on all the water is forced out of the pool therefore the spa feature is useless. They stated we have the smallest motor therefore there is nothing they can do. The registered letter was received however thy did not respond. I want to be reimbursed for a service the salesman sold us. Anthony & Sylvan has been a nightmare.

We purchased a home in Houston with an Anthony Sylvan Pool / Spa. We also got a home warranty that covered it. The Spa will not heat up properly - the lines blow water over your head. We have gone to their office on numerous occasions and have been told that all they do is sell the pools & spas, and they will not repair nor recommend someone to repair it. We need a few replacement parts - same response - we only sell pools.
We have called pool companies & they tell us to go to the manufacturer of our pool as there are apparently some problems with the pool / lines. We get the same response. We have a spa that we cannot use. They are rude & arrogant. How do you sell something without backing it up? I'm in commercial sales *& that is not how it works. Everyone I see I tell about the non-existent customer service.

We selected A/Sylvan because they are an international pool company. It took one year and two days to complete a simple pool and spraydeck deck. Permits expired twice. February 2001 we signed our contract, our last payment was made in February, 2002! We did not use the pool until summer of 2002. By 2003 the deck was cracked like a jigsaw puzzle all the way through the concrete slab. Several of the cracks can be traced up the side of our house to the top.
Three different times our son was brushing the side of the pool when large groups of clay coping collapsed beneath him, fortunately he is very agile and avoided falling. Twice A/Sylvan have come and "reattached" coping in a not so attractive manner, however now they claim that the pool is 5 years old and what do we expect from a pool this age? It has come to the point that the Director of Quality flew into Ft.Myers, Fl. and drove to Miami to look at the pool, this is after two law fims wrote letters of our intent to take them to court for "breach of contract" as they did not install expansion joints per contract. We have e-mails from them saying they will "honor thier contract as always".
The visit with Mr. Roberts did not go well, he stated that all decks crack, that coping is warranteed for only one year. Meanwhile we have had to replace plant material, sod, due to when heavy rains come in the summer, water seeps between the coping and the decorative tile thus spilling chlorinated water onto our yard. Tell me this is "normal"! Also we have had to advise our yardman not to attempt to fish grass out of the pool after mowing because we don't want to be liable for anyone getting injured while standing on coping, which would be a liability I would think to A/Sylvan.
I have exhausted myself with phone calls, e-mails, faxes to them as they did not have a copy of our contract. We had the pool built mainly because i have Multiple Sclerosis, Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue with an immune dysfunction.The best form of exercise for me is in a pool, however since we cannot clean it properly, and the deck is so unsightly, who wants to be out there?

Bought a swimming pool 2003, heater for hot tub and pool service light came on. I called March 2, 2006 to report problem. I was told it would be couple of days and someone would honor warrenty. I called back 2 weeks later and was told man had gone on vacation and I had been reassigned to another company and they would be here Tue 3-21. I called at 3p.m. and was told that because of rain it would be tomorrow.

Use of very poor subcontractors for concrete, pool equipment and pool service. Although equipment has 2 yr warranty they continue to tell me "no problems exist" although air leaks are obvious.

I would like to share a brief update to my original complaint from back in February 2006. Anthony & Sylvan Pools worked with me to address most of my concerns back in 2006. They recently contacted me to confirm that all my concerns had been addressed, and working together, we were able to find a positive resolution to my remaining concerns which I found acceptable. I contracted with A&S Pools in August 2005 to build a pool at my home. The salesman told be it would take three months to complete, four months max if screen enclosure material was in short supply. Well it's six months later, the pool is nowhere near completion, a screen enclosure will take another two months, and the work completed so far has some major flaws. The last time a crew worked on the pool was December 20th. When I called A&S in Fort Myers inquiring about why no work was being done all I got was the run around.
Don Blair (GM) told me the day construction started that he would be the project manager and my contact person, but so far he refuses to return any of my phone calls left on his voice mail, messages with his secretary, or emails I send with pictures attached. The contract states "Anthony & Sylvan shall proceed expeditiosly to complete the pool, but shall not be responsible for delays caused by acts of God..." This pace is far from expeditiosly and why do they ignore my calls? They built a four course stem wall with concrete mortar on the top and bottom of the blocks, but not on the sides. When I questioned why there were gaps between the blocks and expressed my concern that water would absorb through the brick pavers and eventually crack the stucco finish they sent a guy, his wife and two year old daughter over on a Saturday and put filler on the outside of the gaps.
I questioned the building inspector about this method and he told me I had good reason for concern and that this was not normal building practice. I confirmed this wouldn't work when I let a garden hose run on the pool deck and water began spraying through the cracks in numerous locations. Don Blaire told me a crew would be out this week to work on the wall. So far no call, no show. They built a set a stairs from the pool deck to my yard in the wrong location and wrong size. Do these workers even look at drawings?

Robert, a salesperson from Anthony Slyan pools came to my house on June 7th, 2005 with a great song and dance. We signed a contract to have a pool built on June 7th, 2005. They have not delived any of thier promises. I was first told that they did not sub -contract any work out. This is not true because all the work has been sub contracted out. I was then charged seven thousand dollars extra to have a diagonal tile design in the back wall of my pool, that I did not recieve. I was then told by Robert, their salesperson, that the pool would be completed by Dec 24, 2005.
Five weeks went by with out any work being done to my pool. My pool is still not close to completion today. I phoned Anthony & Sylvan to voice my complaint several times and reached no one and left messages. Don Bear who claimed to be the owner/manager of the Fort Myers Fl Office finally returned my call. When I explained the situation to him he laughed at me and said thier was nothing he could do about it. I Then called the main office of Anthony & Sylvan which was no help. After calling the office four times and speaking with several of the administrative staff I was promised a phone call back from the regional director. I have still not recieved a phone call from him.

My pool was built by Anthony & Sylvan in August 2002, I find that the customer service for Anthony & Sylvan is for the birds. I have a hole and cracks on my pool deck and a part of the deck is beginning to lift from the crack, I have been calling Barbara Anderson since before June 2005 to have this fixed, a technician finally came out on September 23rd, 2005 to assess the damage, the technician who came out was to make up a work order and deliver it to Barbara Anderson by 9/26/2005, I have been leaving messages for Barbara Anderson 9/26/2005 to see when the repairs will be done, it will be GOOD COSTOMER SERVICE if someone will call me back.

Our pool is being closed today which means that a third summer season has come and gone and still no resolution to our outstanding electrical issue! Despite admitting the validity of our complaint the Warranty Manager has still not made good on any promises. Incidently, this is only one of a number of issues we have had with A & S. For example, we had to wait 9 weeks for our diving board to be fixed, and this only happened after I badgered them weekly and ultimately had to scream down the phone at the Warranty Mgr.

Called to ask about trouble I was having on a $40,000 pool that I purchased from them 3 years ago. Remember the pool has a lifetime warranty.The warranty seems to have run out. The pool is leaking out all the water when the pump is on. Lifetime warranty does not cover plumbing coping or any of the pumps. So we were wondering what it covered no answer. The Pool Company, Inc. 1231 Jefferson Davis Hwy. Fredericksburg, Va. 22401 was the company that actually put in the pool. Called them they said we don't come that far. Told them they put in the pool. They said that was only a one time deal for Anthony and Sylvan Pools.

We called this jerk to meet us at our home site to price up our pool. He was 15 minutes late in 90* weather and didn't apologize at all. He looked in our backyard and didn't take one measurement but set a time to come to our house to show us what he "worked up" He shows up at our house 35 minutes late,with liquor on his breathe and when we ask would he like something to drink, he said "a drink or a "DRINK" and said it is 5 o'clock somewhere. So we gave him a beer. He showed us what he worked up and we told him thanks, we will call you after we settle on our house in November and he threw the plastic outlet cover across his computer and said, you have to sign this contract now or you are going to lose this price! I said that's OK, we will pay more when we are ready to do the project.
He said "you have wasted 2 hours of my life!" I told him I was a sales manager and train 40 sales reps to NOT be like him. Had to make him leave my house and he said "you will call me back!" I told him he has lost the sale! I will put air in a blow up pool before dealing with this outfit because being a sales manager, I know the salesman sell the way they are taught to sell.

We had our pool excavated on July 14, 2005. As of this date 8/12/05 all that has been done is teh steel. Our dirt wall next the the pool in collapsing and our propane tank might fall. I contacted the general manager on 8/11/05 and they were supposed to send some one out to fix the wall and bond the steel. We have faile two inspections for the pool because the steel has not been bonded. This is the worst pool company I have ever dealt with and I would highly recommend any one thinking about a pool to NOT use this company. We canceling our contract with them and going with a local company to finish our pool.

Using Anthony & Sylvan Pools for installation of a pool and spa was a horrid experience. Despite a promise (and completion clause in the agreement) they missed the deadline by weeks. Within 2 days of their final installation and start up, the filter failed, lines leaked, and consistent with my entire experience with them, no one responded to repeated calls. They installed the wrong electronics and failed to deliver promised equipment. I am contemplating filing a consumer fraud claim including fraud in the inducement. We missed nearly the whole summer and had to endure incredible frustration while dealing with a bunch of people who couldn't care less.
