I first Googled some swimming pool companies and talked to some people. There are not really many swimming pool companies around that are close by. Paul from A&S was the first person to come out and consult us. He was very good and helpful right off the bat. I thought he definitely knew what he was talking about. It sounded like a good deal and a good, established company. One of the reasons we went with them was because we started it last fall, so it was started in the off-season and Paul said we would get a little discount in the price for starting it in the fall. And from what I could tell talking to other people, the price was very reasonable for an in-ground, cement pool.
We're very pleased with the construction and everything but I was a little disappointed after the water was put in, somebody came to get me going. It just felt like he was kind of rushed. But I understand he lived in another state. He lived in Maryland. Other than that some people I called on the phone to ask questions were really good about answering my questions, other people are not as good, and truthfully I was so lucky that I had a swimming pool company in the town of Madison so I could take the water to them and get their advice of what I needed to add or help to care for it. I'm out here in the mountains so it's not easy for Anthony & Sylvan to get their people to come here. One person who came was Mark and he was very helpful. He would answer the phone a lot. And then another couple of guys, Carlos and Luke, seemed like the people you had working there the longest and were the best people I talked to.
Overall I had a very positive experience and I'm very happy with my pool. It's beautiful. I love the steps, the bench seat, and the swim-out. Those are very nice. And I really like the coping and the glazed tile around the edges too. Those turned out very pretty.
Thank you so much, Lynne. We're so happy to hear that you had such a great experience with your Design Consultant and Carlos and Luke have been so helpful. Enjoy your pool!

Most of my interactions with them was positive. I just didn't appreciate the office staff. We weren’t happy, especially with the professionalism. But the pool was really nice. My favorite part of it is the sundeck.

Anthony & Sylvan was referred to me by my landscape contractor who had worked with them. I got a new pool. It has an overflow from the spa, from the Jacuzzi, into the pool. It came out nice. We had some local made mosaics of dolphins and then turtles made by an artist put into the pool by Anthony & Sylvan. The LED lighting was actually new technology. This set different lighting colors. Through the whole process, the team appeared to be professional. I’m in the construction business so I’m pretty in tune to what the demands are for getting it done. We started this process this time last year to put the pool in, to dig it and to test foundations and finished in time in the spring. Overall, they did a great job in completing it within the allocated time frame. So I’m happy with the final result and I did recommend them.

Anthony & Sylvan put a pool in for us about 15 years ago in our previous home. We had a good experience our first time around so we decided to go with them again. They also have very competitive price. They came in pretty low really as an estimate. They put in an in-ground pool, a new installation. It was an excellent experience. Whenever I had a question, somebody calls me back that day. They were excellent. Every crew was polite. There’s not one thing I can complain about. These people were wonderful. They were all very professional.

Anthony & Sylvan put in a pool and decking for us. They did the granite. Sean was the sales rep that we dealt with. He listened to what it was we were looking for and incorporated a landscape of the backyard as we needed it, and he really came out with a plan that encaptured what it is that we were hoping to find. Jeff took over after that as the construction lead and updated us with the schedule. They stayed on schedule. We had a couple of hiccups that he corrected quickly, and he answered any concerns that we had within hours. It was fantastic.

Anthony & Sylvan did the pool, hot tub, waterfall and decking and it is so beautiful! They were very professional and provided exceptional follow-up. They were all very knowledgeable but the one that really stands out is Bob. He was a great sales guy. He put together the plan, architecture, initial recommendation and the designs. Trevor, the project management side of the house, came out and was here all the time - through the entire sales as well as the project management process, including post-implementations. He always took calls on his cell phone and helped you with additional questions regarding the whole process. The experience was exceptional - excellence to detail, quality product, and delivered on time - nothing but great things.

And I love the shape of the pool.

I had a gunite pool that was completed September 2013. And as for optics, the pool and 1000 sq ft of installed pavers were beautiful. With the pool being completed so late in the summer, I had minimum time to utilize the pool. I also purchases a custom pool cover. With about a month of use in 2013, I scheduled pool to open May 2014. I have had numerous problems with the heating system. The pool cover tore due the design of pool (pointed pavers) and the paver deck had lumps, hills, and in some instances 1.5 inch gap between pavers. In addition, the skimmers in the pool and spa does not work properly. I have been waiting approximately six weeks for paver repairs and skimmer maintenance.
Just today, I was informed the paver company can't make repair (light showers) as this is the fourth schedule change (on two other occasions the pave contractor just didn't show as I took off work) and there were periods of rain when the pavers were being installed. I have a beautiful pool with uneven paver decks, takes 5-6 hrs or more to heat and only the spa reaches a comfortable temperature, and leaves and debris that lay to the bottom of the spa and pool because the pool and spa floor skimmers don't work. I have been overly patient with Anthony and Sylvan but when it comes to customer service, there is plenty of room for improvement. Before entering a contract, please check with customers in your area for how well Anthony and Sylvan provides services because in the Hagerstown, Maryland, it's darn terrible!

Anthony & Sylvan was the company that my husband had. They did a new concrete pool installation. It was such a process but it's done. We really enjoy it out being with friends and family, so that's our favorite part, just being out there on the ground. I liked that we had something on schedule and it was done that day according to schedule, so I really enjoyed it. There were definitely some bumps in the road and I understand that they're a large company. There were some points where I was extremely frustrated but now it's done, it's good and it's a process.
If I can encourage Anthony & Sylvan with anything, I would say, do less pools and you're gonna get a better response, and overall, you're gonna get a better recommendation. I would have probably had a more favorable response or a more favorable recommendation of the company if they had made these things like they were more genuine and more personal. I hear that Anthony & Sylvan is across the United States, they do thousands of pools. That's when you kinda lose. I don't know if that makes any sense or not. I feel like they lost the personal side of it and I was just a number. But overall, beautiful product. The men that worked with us were very respectful so overall that's where I'm at: good experience but kinda painful, lot of work, which anyone in any major construction has probably experienced the same thing.

My husband visited the office to make our final payment and was told it will be another week.. Not an email or a phone call or anything to tell us. This is how it has been the entire time. My son asked me why we didn't go on vacation this summer. I told him because we were SUPPOSED TO HAVE A POOL. We will not even swim for Labor Day. I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone. My employee’s sister had a pool that was done by Anthony & Sylvan, so I called them to give me an estimate. Everybody that came out treated us very well. I'm very satisfied with the salt plaster pool we had installed. We love the salt water and we enjoy its depth. The black pearl plaster seems to hold the heat of the water up and we like that. We didn't have to put much money into propane. We had started the pool and had to put it on hold for a little while. They came back after the delay, picked up where we left off and finished it up. We appreciated that. We like everything about it. We feel that we have a pool that we’re not disappointed in at all.

Anthony & Sylvan refinished the surface of the pool. No tiles, just the granite. Their salesman was very good and attentive. The only thing negative I have to say is that when it came time for the installation, they didn't advise me fully of what is required of me to have ready when they got here. They did it 8, 9 months in advance and actually, it's the contractor that did it before and so when it came time to install it, I had to scramble to get everything ready for what they needed. The day after posting this I was contacted by Owen. He explained that his job was to step in and be my day to day contact and allow for a clear line of communication through completion. He has certainly been responsive and kept a clear line of communication though the overall communication with other parties at Anthony Sylvan as well as their internal communication has continued to be an issue.
At this point, the pool is filled, looks great for the most part and we are looking forward to using it for many years to come. We went with AS for our pool for the end product, time will tell if it is as advertised and it lives up to its reputation. It's a shame that the process to get to the end product is as painful as it is.

I have to agree with both Wendy and Kim from NJ. I should have seen the writing on the wall from the start. I signed my contract with A&S in early April and we are still not in our pool. The communication has been awful at best. I called my salesperson out early on that communication needed to be better and he said it would be. Unfortunately it has only gotten worse. I have had to manage the project continually from the permit phase. I picked up permits and wrote an escrow check in the hopes of moving the process along. Wrong again. I ended up deducting the escrow check amount from one of my pool payments because I was not getting reimbursed as promised.
My yard has become a dumping ground for the sub contractors. I bring this to the attention of Trevor, my so called project manager, in writing with pictures and he does not get back to me. The electricians decided to leave the light J-box where my patio was to be laid because the cord would not reach to where the pool equipment is. I leave messages for senior mgt and they delegate it out to other folks to get back to me. The one person who does get back to me has not done anything. When I did finally hear from the electrician mgr, they wanted to give me a working outlet next to the box and call it even. At this point I feel as if I should be on A&S's payroll since I am doing their jobs. I have been "nickel and dimed" with undisclosed charges and I cannot begin to express my level of disappointment. I wish I had seen these threads prior to signing on the dotted line. I can without a doubt say that I will not recommend A&S to anyone looking for a pool contractor.

We came across Anthony & Sylvan and we decided to give the local branch a call to get a quote. We got them to install a new pool for us. It's a free form, it's plastered and I think its about 30,000 gallons. My favorite feature of the pool is the design. The salesperson/architect came up with something really unique for us and it incorporated some of the things that we were looking for. We didn't really know how to go about designing it, so he was able to come up with something that was really appealing for us.
Just about everything was positive from the design process to the sales process. The project manager was great. I felt like I had a good relationship with him. He was there every step of the way, willing to answer any questions that I had, and I was probably most impressed with the speed the project was done. There was somebody working on that pool just about every day. They were professional, efficient, and they aim to please.

The wet deck is so awesome. I hang out there every day. Every night my husband and I are in the wet deck. It's like a little porch in the pool with ankle deep water. You put your chairs in there and you can sit there without having to get a bathing suit on. All the contractors that we used were great except for the tile guys. They could use some improvement. In any kind of big project that requires so many days and you're at the whim of the weather and everything else, you want somebody that is responsive. To let you know what's going on and how things are gonna move from here and so forth. They (A&S) have always been very responsive. Not just responsive but they have good quality control.
Quality control is a big thing especially because there's so many different groups of people being managed and handled with in construction of a project like a pool set. I specifically remember a situation where the decking was not aligned correctly or something. There was no way I would have known that kind of stuff. (This was before they poured the concrete.) So someone coming out and looking at it and going, "You know what? This needs to be redone because this is not right." So they ended up paying out and completely using another date to get that right - I thought that was really cool. Because that's something that you want to trust the people that your working with and that was a prime example of doing that.
It was an easy and comfortable experience. Anthony & Sylvan installed a fairly large, maybe over 20,000 gallon, concrete pool in my backyard. It uses Nature2 Fusion & Ozonator. This is a type of sanitizing stuff that helps out in eliminating the amount of chlorine tablets used.

If I could give no stars, that would be closer to my opinion, as one star exceeds my experience. I'm currently working "only" with the operations manager as our Houston Team can't communicate a basic schedule. Sadly, I'm still dealing with no-shows scheduled by the manager himself. If that doesn't speak volumes, perhaps a crew of 13 that dug up my yard for a incorrect plan last week will further explain my frustrations.

From start to finish it has been one big fiasco! Lack of communication, always blaming their contractors for work done incorrectly, being lied to. I could keep going on but I will add my continuing fight with them. We had new stamped concrete installed along with redo of old pool. The stamped concrete company did a beautiful job, perfection at its best! Then Anthony Sylvan guys come to acid wash pool inside and re-plaster etc. after they are done. I go out the next day to look at pool, and all well to my surprise, there is acid stops all around our brand new deck.
Anthony Sylvan has lied to me about having concrete contractor coming back out to repair. As of this date, I will be calling manager, will longer deal with the woman that was supposed to be coordinator (what a joke- no communication with her unless I called to find out things, and lies). I would never recommend this company. Too unreliable, and don't care once contract is signed. I guess this is why they have you sign a paper stating you cannot sue them. This is a joke of a company!

We put a LOT of money in our new pool and would like to be satisfied! I also have no idea who to contact for service issues as the person I was told to contact won't return any calls either! Anthony & Sylvan coordinated the pool design, and installation for the low chlorine ozone concrete pool. I love the fact that it's right in my backyard. My sales professional did a fantastic job of understanding what it was that we were going for, and from designing the finished product from what truly was a dirt lock. While the sales process and the design process were great, there was a bit of a disconnect with the communication throughout the project. The implementation phase was not as smooth as we would have liked but we're very pleased with the final product.

A friend referred Anthony & Sylvan so I had a new concrete pool installed. The team who came were very professional and very knowledgeable. I like the design and the design phase, in terms of taking the time to really sit down and help us understand the possible scenarios for our backyard. We had a bit of a complex topography and the design consultant, Paul, really took the time to walk the site with us and lay out the things that were possible. That was a very good experience. I would say it's a great pool, beautiful product. For us it became the feature of our backyard so it really made our backyard a unique place for the family to spend time and to gather. I certainly recommend Anthony & Sylvan for the quality of pools and the product that they built.

We have a free form swimming Pool by Anthony & Sylvan. It's concrete and all chlorine. I particularly like its little waterfall feature. It's great. Anthony & Sylvan have all these different contractors come out and they were all very good to deal with and they all cleaned up afterwards. In other words you weren't dealing with one side of people. You're dealing with specialists and they all came out and they're all good so that was great.
I only had really one problem. It has something to do with Home Owner's Association approval and if you're from Pennsylvania you don't know what that is. You need to get approval for everything you do including a pool. The designer, he dropped off the plans and people sat on it. Two months later when the pool was put in and they go "Your plans aren't approved," nobody followed up. So it could have been bad but it didn't turn out bad. The designer was able to answer all the questions that has to do with HOA but they made me uncomfortable. That was the only bad part. Everything else went very well.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful feedback, Richard! We're so happy to hear that you're enjoying your pool -- and particularly the beautiful waterfall! We're always here if you have any questions about your pool.

The sales guy, Tom, was awesome. He stayed in touch with me through the whole thing. Then there was a young man that came and was very personable and patient with me, as far as everything that needed to be learned being a new pool owner. We had them install a concrete pool which the salt system hasn't worked for the last 6 weeks now but they're working on it.
They were informative and the experience was a good one. While it does take a little longer, it's definitely worth the wait for the look and the quality of the end product.

I purchased a pool that was completed in November of last year. It was a nightmare from the beginning of ground breaking. Nobody spoke English, they left their trash in my backyard. Everyday they were there. I can't believe this is acceptable in Texas. And to top it off, they built a crap pool. Cracking, leaching (which their water test guy blamed on the water). How after two months of the pool being completed it's doing that already? And the pool deck is breaking to pieces which of course it's not covered under warranty. The response was we can't help when the ground moves, but yet the pool and surrounding area starts falling apart two months after the pool was built? I've been treated like an idiot by the warranty manager. Now I get no response at all. I have called and emailed repeatedly to the Anthony and Sylvan employees who are designated to my area but they won't respond, probably hoping I will go away.

This company is the biggest fabricator of misinformation ever! I installed my pool in 2007, and like others you pay just about everything upfront, with no recourse. Further when you have a problem, they don't answer calls, and they back pedal about it being a warranty issue. Everything anyone said who gave them one star is exactly right. Now after just 7 years, they tell me Plaster is a 3-yr warranty. So, it needs resealed. I spent $60,000.00 on a pool that needs attention after just 7 years (which includes draining 20,000 gallons of water). Since it's out of warranty, for a fee they will look at it. I previously owned above ground pools that the liners lasted 20 years!!!! I would not recommend this company to an enemy!

The worst decision of my life has been purchasing a pool from Anthony & Sylvan. Don't be fooled with their slick ads, this company will frustrate you beyond your limits with their lies and incompetence. Most of the time they blame everything on the weather and when they can't use that excuse they will blame others for their incompetence. Their communication is the worst I've ever seen or heard about. They don't return e-mail or phone calls specially when they are late. Once you sign a contract and they dig your backyard you have no choice or alternative but to put up with their never ending excuses and lies especially since you have to pay for everything much in advance.
I am an architect and have contracted many construction projects in last 35 years and have never ever had such a horrible experience with a contractor. I can't understand how this company is operating and is staying in business with so much incompetence, lies and unhappy customers. They make you select colors, tiles, etc. months in advance and on the day of installation either they say they don't have that color or material or they are out of it and you have to wait even more. It does not matter how early you start the process because you will not have your pool for the season.
I started the process in November and today is June 23, 2014 and after waiting more than 10 days in line for plastering and scheduling my plaster for June 21st, they are telling me that they don't have the plaster and I have to wait and each dept. is blaming the other dept. I had to cancel a business trip because they were going to plaster my pool but they never showed up or notified me that they are not coming. They are staying in business because of their advertisement and sales since almost nobody buys more than a pool in their lifetime and when you bring these issues up their answer always is: we have been building pools for 70 years and we know what we are doing. Believe me they don't. They try to sell as many pools as possible and then their games start.

I regret ever calling this company to get an estimate to renovate my pool. I only called them because Anthony Pools originally built my pool back in 1974. The pool renovation was suppose to begin during the second week of May and was only suppose to take 4 or 5 days. We are now at the end of the third week of June and very little of the work is done. Most frustrating is the lack of communication. I have called my renovation coordinator about a dozen times and have never had anyone answer the phone. I get a message that she is busy but if I leave a message, she will get back to me. The only problem is she never returns the calls and if you call customer relations, they answer the phone but do nothing more than take a message for you which again no one ever returns.
During a phone call in late May, I was told that my pool was the next project to be done, since the a crew showed up (of which no one spoke English) for a total of 2 days and then disappeared. Since then, I have left 4 messages over 3 days and no one has returned my call and no work has been done. I wanted to be able to use the pool this season but as the days tick by and no one will even return my calls I'm left wondering when they will return. If I had this to do over again I wouldn't use this company to change a light bulb. Once you sign the contract and give them your deposit, they lose all interest in customer service. If you are considering signing a contract with this company, I strongly suggest you don't. There are other companies out there and I can't believe any of them could be worse than Anthony/Sylvan.

Our choice and color selection was made by us from the choices provided by Anthony Sylvan Salesman. Now on June 17, 2014 after many emails, we were told our project will not continue until we pay more money for the concrete. This is the second work stoppage this company has done because of their failure to comply with the agreed addendum to the contract concerning the concrete. The first work stoppage occurred on May 30, 2014 and lasted for two weeks. This is one of many issues we have been faced with in dealing with the Maryland Office of Anthony Sylvan and will post each issue separate as we proceed through the process.

We had Anthony & Sylvan build a pool for us in about 2005 in Fort Myers FL. The salesman made a very strong case that a "national" company would be a better choice and he was very positive about the experience. He was let go or left before they broke ground. The pool was built, tiles kept popping off, tiles were replaced multiple times. Cracks behind the tiles and lack of Cl2 residual have meant we have not been able to use it in several years. I strongly believe there are defects in the construction. We have had a couple of other pool people look at it and there seems to be consensus the problem is structural, possibly the bond beam was not properly installed. Anthony & Sylvan has been contacted several times, and if they respond at all it is to say it is not a problem or that it is typical. If severe cracks behind the tiles and the coping shearing off in this short period of time are typical, I would be very surprised. Expectations are low for a positive response but I felt it is important to note the experience.
My advice to any considering a pool by Anthony & Sylvan is to pass and find a reputable local pool builder. I probably should point out that Anthony & Sylvan has closed the office in Fort Myers and I believe no longer operates in Florida, could it be because they did such poor work that they could not remain in business in a state with such a large number of residential pools per capita?

There have been long lags between milestones. Seven to ten days will go by after one phase of construction is completed before we hear from a scheduler to arrange the next phase. No one answers their phone and it is rare to get a return call after leaving a message. I had heard this complaint about pool companies but it seemed A&S was different. They're not.
Did I mention they have 95% of the total price of construction. Fearing this type of delay, I had attempted to negotiate a different payment schedule at contract signing, but they would not even hear it. I am even more angry after reading a recent review where a customer complained about having construction in their yard for 7 weeks! I'd be overjoyed if I had my pool in 7 weeks.

We are the very first resident in our subdivision to have their own pool. We were promised the moon and star from Tim our sales rep and Marty our project coordinator. We did our part in getting HOA approval within a few days, and the permit was ready and we waiting with excuse after excuse of why our pool wasn't started. Then AS started the pool, and start the digging in April and now it's June 7 and still waiting on final grading and the pebble tech. I'm wondering how long this is going to take. We signed the contact in March 2014 and was told 4-6 weeks. Um I wonder what calendar they use because now we are on week 6 since the digging started the 3rd week of April. Marty is now gone, we were told Spencer would be taking care of us, now we are working with a Doug person. Really?
Does anyone know what the heck is going on? Will this be done and ready to swim by the 4th of July? We have neighbors saying they wanted a pool, came and saw our mess and said no way to Anthony & Sylvan. Three more pools are going to committee for approval and since my husband is on that committee he not sure if he can tell folks to go with your company... Lots of nice homes here. It's a shame you couldn't make a great impression and get more business. The gentleman we used to build our fence put up about 90% of them in the neighborhood because we sang his praises. Shame you are willing to lose business on just not getting your act together.

I have to tell you this whole pool installing process is way more difficult than anything I have ever experienced. But here is a follow up to my initial review on ConsumerAffairs.
That very day (Friday) that the review posted I received a call from Owen. He asked if there was any emergency that needed to be address right at that moment. I said no and I gave him a brief history on my dealings. He assured me he was there to HELP me, and he did just that. By Sunday the deck subcontractor was out there measuring, etc.
Unfortunately the weather was not on our side. But, all in all the deck was put in with less than satisfactory workmanship. Again Owen got them to come back and fix it. It looks great.
I have not had my final inspection yet so I will advise afterwards, but I do not believe that I would not be a satisfied customer had Owen not been my liaison. I never was in contact with James, Jerry or Trevor from that Friday. They are just not good at whatever their job is supposed to be.
Sylvan has a lot of things that need to work on as a contractor. I would love to come re-vamp their whole process. They are just a crew of men trying to bang out the "starts" of projects. There is absolutely NO attention to detail. They are not in control of their subs, they are at their mercy.
The electrical contractor installed a receptacle to code "within 5-20 ft from water and nearest to water pump (sylvans rules)" failing to notice that would bring it right in the middle of my lawn. But it was to code. Common sense would have made someone think before the process. Let's either move the pool 2 ft closer to the pump or put receptacle in a more efficient spot (but that would have caused them a bit more work and/or thought) I decided to leave it because my sod is already in.
I wished that I had researched a bit more and maybe knew the right questions to ask before hand. Again Owen is amazing at his job!!!! and I would give him a 10+ stars but, I think to be fair in my review 3 Stars for Anthony and Sylvan over all. My pool is beautiful, the deck is in and its almost my birthday so I am happy right now. Have a great day.

I am angry at myself for not looking at this website sooner. Wendy from NJ hit the nail on the head when she said be prepared to Project Manage yourself. I agree with everything about them NOT calling back, not scheduling properly, not returning emails. I sent them my final email yesterday. I will sit and WAIT... I cannot get myself worked up over it. But be sure that I would never ever recommend them for anyone's pools. They truly are like clowns in a circus as someone suggested. I deal with three people that go in 3 different directions. There are never the same answers twice. I have been asking for a schedule for about a month now and neither of the 3 can provide. After it is all in, I will surely be back to give you a blow by blow account of their inadequacies.

AS Pools hires subcontractors for the work. That way you can't sue them. They blame, blame, blame. They don't care. Once they get their money, they simply don't care. My pool had problems the day it was filled with water. I used their people, which are actually sub contractors to clean and maintain my pool and it was never fixed. I made several phone calls and visits to Anthony Sylvan. Nothing was ever replaced or repaired. They are Cons!
Do your homework. If you read positive remarks, you will notice that most are from people that sell supplies to AS Pools and those who sell products to maintain the pools. Maybe they actually have had some success, but there are thousands of complaints on file in several states regarding this company. They just keep moving. Shame on ANTHONY SYLVAN POOLS.

I was also told by A&S that they do all the scheduling and coordination if I did so. That couldn't have been more wrong.
Be prepared to project manager the project yourself, because they don't know how to do it. They also don't know how to answer e-mails or pick up the phone when their contractors are repeated no shows. I wish I could get my money back and start over with another company. My wife and I made the mistake of choosing Anthony and Sylvan to install our custom-designed, in-ground pool in 2006. What promised to be a six week project turned into a 13 month nightmare. However, that's not the worst of it. In 2010, we noticed problems with the tile around our spa. When we called on Anthony and Sylvan, they eventually sent someone out who looked at it and suggested we, "buy a scraper and scrape off the white stuff." Over the past few years as the tile and concrete proceeded to break down, we continued to call upon Anthony and Sylvan with no luck. This year, we opened our pool to find several tiles gone, exposing the damaged concrete below. We also found a major crack in the hot tub, which broke off.
Once again, we called upon Anthony and Sylvan, begging them to stand behind their "Lifetime Guarantee" that they so proudly sold to us 7 seven years ago. At first, our "customer service rep" told us she saw no damage to the concrete, and that she had to "respectfully disagree with us" that there was damage to the concrete (see attached pic). Her final email to us informed us that since our pool wasn't leaking, it wasn't leaking, it wasn't their problem. Truly the worst company we have EVER dealt with.

Choosing Anthony & Sylvan was the worst choice ever. It took almost a year to complete our pool project. We had multiple project managers due to turnover. There was no quality control which they touted during the sale. At every turn there was an issue that we had to fight to get resolved. Even when we identified an issue, some were never resolved and new issues are emerging which they point to contract and say no warranty even though there were issues identified during the installation. Every time they are out we deal with incompetence. I have never dealt with such a horrible company. Save yourself the stress and go with someone else.

We completed our pool at the end of the season last year and it was a nightmare trying to get it done. When we were finally finished, there were so many items that the sales representative did not tell us. It was clear, he was interested in coming in with a lower price only to hit us with additional costs after we could not say no as we had a hole in the ground. We thought this was all behind us only to open our pool three days ago to find an inch of sediment at the bottom. This was caused by incorrect grading which was to be corrected as we paid extra for bond beam. This was in addition to paying for additional steps and decking to further accommodate the grade. Our tech told us we cannot use the pool and worse, the sediment in the pool can damage the filter. Furthermore, nearly every panel of our concrete decking is cracked, including one across the entire length of the deck. After three days of trying, we cannot get anyone from A&S to contact us regarding our pool. This is extremely disturbing given our investment and the fact that it is unusable (and already falling apart) the first full year it is opened.

Anthony Sylvan did our pool last spring. Everything was going fine, until, it wasn't. They lied to us and left our yard a royal mess. We continue to have drainage problems that they won't return to fix even though they said they would. They harassed us to buy an overpriced pool cover that they wanted to charge 10x's the cost of the cover to install, but they would not return our calls when we wanted them to fix the problem they created with their improper grading. The sales man said our sloped yard wouldn't be a problem. Ha! Now a year later, we were told they would come back to caulk around the concrete after the concrete cures.
When we call to schedule that, they tell us it will cost $750!!!! Talk about hidden charges, not to mention the fact that they said it that our $40,000 price take included everything having to do with the pool! We chose AS because we thought they were reputable and would give us a higher quality product than going with the lowest bidder. We were banking on their reputation. I wish we had used another company and not wasted so much money on a company that is getting too big for heir britches.

Having finally gotten the attention of someone who cared, I was pleased that Anthony Sylvan in Charlotte responded positively. So far they have corrected the grout problems between bricks on the coping and removed the foam spacer and applied something permanent called Mastic around the pool as promised. First Look handled most of the repairs and were excellent to work with.
They were also to look at the calcium deposits on our waterfall which are rock hard.I had scraped what I could, but they had come up all over the water feature. I'm not sure what if anything can be done for this. The repairmen could not get our Polaris robot cleaner to work so they took it in to replace the broken parts. Assuming it will be fixed, I am willing to update my star-rating to excellent and recommend Anthony Sylvan to our friends and neighbors.

We spent over $50,000 on our pool last spring (2013). We were told by the salesman that certain things would be done and that he would see to it. Somehow we were caught in employee problems that left our pool construction unsupervised and incomplete for almost a month, and then little things that the salesman said would be done that were never done, such as replacing a temporary foam filler around the pool, some crumbling between the bricks that was apparent immediately, and white deposits that defaced and damaged our waterfall. We called and left numerous messages and were always told A-S repair persons would be out when they caught up.
In April 2014 we started again trying to get these little things corrected. Now we are told that that salesman is no longer employed with the company. They want me to take pictures of the crumbling masonry for them to decide if it is worth repairing although the salesman saw them himself. They told me to go get a product from a pool supply place to remove the calcium deposits that have appeared all over our tiles. I am disappointed in the quality of our experience with Anthony Sylvan of Charlotte.
Thank you for sharing these concerns with us. I'm happy that we have been able to help and that things are moving in a positive direction. We'll be in touch very soon with an update about your Polaris.

Anthony and Sylvan installed an in ground concrete pool in our backyard about 3 years ago. Last summer, while pool was still inside the warranty period, we noticed an approximately 1 square foot area of rust on one of the pool walls. We immediately notified the company. They sent a rep out and he told us that there was insufficient plaster covering on the pool wall and the rebar was starting to rust. They suggested that we schedule a repair this spring, before we opened the pool for the spring. Although Anthony and Sylvan told us there would be no charge for the actual repair, they said that we would be responsible for refilling the pool.
We asked customer service if it was necessary to drain the entire pool to do the repair, and were told no, we just had to get the level below the affected area (about 18 inches below the pool surface). Today, the repair team showed up to start the repair. First thing he told us was that he'd need to drain the entire pool and we'd need to call a water company to arrange for re-filling. We are on a well. The cost of getting water trucks to fill the pool, plus required start up chemicals, will likely run to $1000 or more. Am very dissatisfied that we should be on the hook for this expense. Also, customer service should have let us know in advance that it would be required to drain the whole pool.

Started planning our pool over a year ago with Anthony & Sylvan Pools. They seemed open to what we were seeking and willing to work with us. We provided detailed inputs on what we wanted to the sales person and he made drawings. Over the course of several months the design changed as some of the ideas the sales person presented could not be done. On more than one occasion it appeared he was not even listening to what we had said as the design changes went totally against what we requested. We finally reached the day when we were ready to start the building process and the site manager they sent us nearly turned around and went home because site was muddy. The site manager was only working with us temporarily while they looked for a new site manager to run our area and claimed to have years of experience.
We were told that a work lead would contact us and discuss what would be done during each phase of the project, but this only occurred the first day. We were only given a top view layout of the pool with terms we did not fully understand and neither did the sales person which we found out later. Construction progressed and the concrete was poured which is when we finally understood some of the terms the sales person poorly explained. We sent them detailed questions and pictures, but the focus of their response was to try to get us to accept their design and not give us the pool we requested.
It took several weeks and we finally requested that the original sales person be involved. A new site manager was also appointed which we were not told was from another area (i.e. covering two areas and not really focusing on our pool) until we were informed that we would be working with another site manager after several months of ignored emails and calls. There are still several issues to be resolved and we have had very little contact with them since they suddenly shut down work for the winter. They did not inform us that this would occur or what shutting down meant. We expected they would still answer emails and calls and work with us to resolve the issues so that once worked started again things might go better, not the case at all.
It is now March and the only issues resolved since last November is that they finally sent us more detail on the remote system for the pool which we started requesting months before they shut down in November. We have not met the new site manager and the people whose email addresses we have do not respond. They have 95% of the cost of the pool and are doing nothing to get the work done or resolve any of the issues. By far the worst experience we have ever had with a contractor and it is still going. We hope to save others from such a poor experience by writing this review.

They worked with me on additional drainage concerns. The whole process was actually very smooth.
Their subcontractor was very professional, no issues at all. When they said they were going to be there, they were there. There weren’t really any delays that were unforeseeable for bad weather or things like that. They kept in constant contact on the whole process. My experience with Anthony & Sylvan was wonderful!

I wanted to pick some of the ones that had been around for a long, long time because pool companies come and go here and there were three. Anthony & Sylvan was the one we liked. We believed the salesman and trusted him. He always kept his appointments and we were always able to get a hold of him when we needed to. The price was good. The work was absolutely terrific. Every subcontractor came on time. We had no problems at all. Everything was done right and very, very quickly too.
They built it in about 5 or 6 weeks. It would have been faster except it rained here which put them off for a few days. Other than that, it was very fast and we're very happy. I like everything about the pool. The deck is beautiful. They painted it two-tone. It's great. We have not been able to swim in it yet because it's not warm enough yet but it looks good. Interactions with them were all positive. We had reservations when we first started interviewing people as we had heard horror stories about pool companies in general and none of those came to pass. They are awesome.

We have a beautiful new free form pool and a spa connected to it installed by Anthony & Sylvan. I was doing a search in the area of the highest rated pool company and contacted four different companies and they were the only one that called me back. We had a lot of concrete so they had to remove the concrete decking and they re-concreted and pool decked. There was a lot of input from us. They left it up to us what we wanted to do so we have a lounging deck in the pool and we picked the tile and everything so it matches our landscaping perfectly.
Don ** was our sales coordinator and you can just tell the experience he's had coming out... He's been doing it for years. He was able to answer every question we had prior to signing any paperwork and then Skye ** was our project manager and he was out at the beginning of any new vendor coming out to do work. So the first time the excavators came out, he was out here and also when the first time the concrete guys came out. He made sure that everybody was doing what they were supposed to do. He was on top of it. It was excellent service all around.

Anthony and Sylvan Pools exceeded our expectations. The work was completed on time (we understand that is rare with pool builders) and they communicated with us throughout the entire process. They were very thorough and we knew just what to expect. A few small issues came up and they were corrected immediately. Don ** was our design/sales consultant and he was very patient with us during the design phase. He came up with great ideas, even pointing out that we could keep a tree we thought we would have to lose. The finished product actually looked like the computer model. They suggested an outdoor fireplace builder, and we were very happy with that referral - that work came out great as well. Don was very funny and easy to deal with. Having your yard turned into a construction site for 7 weeks is not fun, but they made it as tolerable as possible. Our pool is beautiful! I would highly recommend Anthony and Sylvan Pools.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share this wonderful feedback, Jessica! We're so happy to hear that you had such a positive experience with Don and that your family is enjoying your new pool. We're always here if you have any questions.

There was a neighbor on the block that recommended the pool that he got from Anthony & Sylvan. So we ordered from them and had them put in a concrete pool with chlorine system. Our pool looks pretty and I like the tile on it. It’s pretty good! We had no issues from beginning to end… Everything was pretty much on target like they had told us. The project manager, Harold, was great. He was very informative and I felt like he knew what he was doing - I felt comfortable with him. It was a good experience with Anthony & Sylvan and I would also recommend them to a friend.

We have two neighbors who had put a pool in previous to ours and that’s how we heard about Anthony & Sylvan. The young man who sold this and designed the pool was Kim. He was absolutely phenomenal. He is one of the main reasons we even went with Anthony & Sylvan because we really like the way he was very professional. He followed up very quickly and didn’t leave you out there for 3 or 4 days waiting for a call back.
Everything is amazing, I like everything about the pool. They put in a free form pool with retaining wall. I do like the retaining walls aspect because it was put in where our backyard slopes toward our house from our neighbors and it provides us with privacy while we’re in the water. I’m glad we upgraded the color of the pool, it's one of my favorite features because most of our neighbors' pools are more green water - we have beautiful blue which really takes on the Carolina blue sky.
We did put in a sun deck which has been wonderful for my grandsons so when they’re little, they can stand up on the water, where normally it would start out at 3 feet and the water would be either over their head or up to their neck depending on their age. And since I have four little grandsons under the age of 7, that’s just going to be perfect when the other ones get down here to visit next summer! It will be a nice pool for parties, but It’s still a good swimming lap pool too, which is important because that’s basically what I wanted it.
Overall I would say they are a very reputable company that has been around a long time. Anybody who would use Anthony & Sylvan to have their pool installed will be very, very pleased with the end result!

After posting my original review, I was contacted by Owen from Anthony & Sylvan. After his contact, we really got things going to finish up our pool, and resolve the issues I mentioned in the original review. Owen was key to keeping communication going so that my husband and I knew what was happening and when. He was a liaison between the local PM and us, and followed up to make sure things were kept on schedule. After our gas line was placed we had to wait 3 weeks or so for an upgraded meter. In that timeframe, our landscaper accidentally hit a line that ended up being the wiring for the pool light. Owen and Anthony & Sylvan were willing to help us (and our landscaper) get the light replaced at less cost than we originally paid for the light. We were able to use our hot tub last night, and it was nothing short of WONDERFUL! In the end, although the road was bumpy sometimes, the pool turned out beautifully. I’d like to update our star rating to 4 stars. Thank you for the opportunity to update our review.

After getting several quotes over several months, we decided on an Anthony & Sylvan pool. We went with the first (and only) design and thought we were off to a good start. Someone came to drop off a Bobcat and said they would begin our work the next day. There is a large hill from our driveway to our backyard, and I warned him that with the wet ground he would be unable to get it back out. No one showed up the next day, and the day after that he came to pick it up to take to another house. He didn't believe me when I told him he wouldn't get it up the hill, and proceeded to make deep ruts trying to get traction. He exposed the main lines running from the house to the septic tank!
Several days later, he tried again and successfully removed it. Once construction started, they brought a TracHoe to the backyard via the driveway. It states in the contract that they aren't responsible for cracked driveways, but we assumed (WRONG) that they would use some common sense about where they put a heavy piece of equipment. The corner of our driveway is now broken because he wasn't careful. Common sense would tell me to NOT drive over the corner (the weakest part). Our concerns voiced with the local office were ignored. Construction continued, but the closer we got to the end of the project, the more our site just sat there without any work being done at all.
Then, right before a rain, we would get a call saying they were postponing due to forecast rain. Our pool, started in September isn't finished, and it has spent a lot of time just sitting. At our "final walk-thru" on November 15th, there was a list of items to be addressed. We were told that they would be taken care of and then another walk-thru would be scheduled. Or, to speed things up we could go ahead and give the final payment and it would make the finish come quicker. We gave the final payment. Bad idea. The concrete pad they put the equipment on didn't allow our storage door to open, so they just sawed it off and now there is exposed Styrofoam.
When I asked about this, the PM didn't even give a response, he just ignored me. This is not the first time this has happened. To top things off, when the guy came to do the "pool school" he found some of the cleaning heads needed to be replaced, and a couple other MAJOR things. They had FORGOTTEN to run any gas at all to the pool!!!! Seriously!!! How does that happen??? My husband called the PM and the scheduler and got voicemails. The scheduler called back and said it is the homeowner's responsibility. Then the PM called and said the scheduler was wrong, he was sorry, and he dropped the ball. The pool school guy came back out to finish replacing more cleaning heads, and while inspecting the equipment, he had a problem with the Styrofoam exposed on the concrete pad, and said the heater is too close to our house and our storage area, which is under a deck so it's wood. He fears it is a fire hazard!!
At this point, we see no end in sight, mistakenly gave the last payment, and are regretting our decision to go with Anthony & Sylvan. This pool should have been done weeks ago, and we haven't been getting much communication at all. When my husband voiced concerns about the yard that was torn up, the PM said, "Well, it won't be perfect." The part that was damaged due to the Bobcat issue, which is not close to the pool site, should be restored to how it looked before, and without using part of the allotted materials that go around the pool. What started with one rough patch has turned into a fiasco. Needless to say, we are the only house with an Anthony & Sylvan pool in our neighborhood, and we wouldn't feel right giving a good review (based on the trouble we have had with lack of resolution) if our neighbors ask about our experience.

I had a Sylvan pool installed 30 years ago then needed to have it refinished. I looked up Sylvan and it’s now Anthony & Sylvan and that’s how I found out about the company. They refinished the entire pool... total remodeling. First off, we chose Anthony & Sylvan for a bunch of reasons, not just because it was a Sylvan pool. We got quotes and saw different salesmen from various pool companies in the Tristate area. Then Anthony & Sylvan sent out a sales rep, David **. He was the very best, most knowledgeable sales rep that my husband and I have ever run into! Every question we asked, he had an answer for. He wasn’t pushy and was so professional.
The manager of renovations was Bill **. Most people find contracts not paid as much attention to. Whenever you have a major, major renovation, at points you get crazy (at least, I do, overwhelmed). When I would call Bill, I’d be like at 99 craziness, but Bill brought me down to calm. This is the biggie for us. Whatever Bill promised, got done. He was great!
The guys who did the renovation were master craftsmen… they were sculptors, artists. When they first came, there were three of them. Then my husband and I got a little nervous because they didn’t speak good English. The minute they started, we were no longer afraid. These guys were superior! Our pool looks better now than it did 30 years ago when it was new. About the surfacing of the pool, they sculpted it. They did wonderful! They deserve a raise!
And I don’t want to forget one more person… Her name is Melissa. She was the lady that we would call up to find out if the guys are coming for sure, like an office manager. She was the lady who would call scheduling the guys. This person was the most customer-oriented lady ever! She was sweet, kind, wonderful and always got back to me. That’s another thing most places don’t do. We’ve heard from friends, “They never get back to you.” Melissa, Bill and David - they get back to you right away.
When I’m mad, I complain. When I feel like I’m getting gypped, I complain. But when it’s great work, really outstanding, excellent, I also compliment. They’re so great, I just can’t help it!! They did a magnificent, thorough job from beginning to end. David started the whole thing. If you ever have a pool that needs to be built or refurbished/refinished, you should really go to Anthony & Sylvan. No kidding. We recommend the company to everybody.
We're thrilled to hear that you had such a wonderful experience! We'll be sure to pass your compliments on to David, Bill, and Melissa. We're always here if you have any questions. Enjoy your pool!

A&S corporate (Owen) contacted me the day after I posted this review. The individual I spoke with was very professional. He asked me to send a picture of the broken part and he would identify it for me. I did, and he did. All was handled very quickly and satisfactorily. They even offered (which I took them up on) to send me a couple of the parts. Very happy with the corporate response.
Also I must add that the corporate guy did advise me that the local A&S office I went to is a sales and construction office not a retail outlet for parts/supplies etc. I guess this tempers my original unhappiness a little.
Original Review: Nov. 7, 2013
I recently bought a house with an Anthony & Sylvan pool. The pool was built about 6 years ago (7 year old house and pool was added by the original owners after occupying the house). The pool seems to be in generally good shape so no complaints there. However, last week one of the in-pool popup AutoClean cleaner heads broke. I fished the broken part out of the pool and noted that it was a branded A & S part. I took the part to my local pool supply place but they were unable to determine a replacement part since Anthony & Sylvan had rebranded the part, removing their ability to determine a replacement.
The pool supply guy told me to contact Anthony & Sylvan to get the OEM and part number. Since the Anthony & Sylvan office was close by I drove over to get the needed info. This started one of the oddest and unsatisfactory customer service experiences I had in recent years. After a short initial discussion with an Anthony & Sylvan employee, upon entering the store, he admitted this was beyond him and he went to get someone who could help me. OK so far.
After a minute or so another gentleman came to the front and inquired as to my problem. I showed him the Anthony & Sylvan branded pop up and said I needed to either buy one or get a manufacturer/part number so I could acquire one myself. This gentleman told me they didn't have parts for these 'old' systems (6 years old?) and moreover he wasn't sure who the OEM was or the part number. I asked if there was a cross reference for these parts and he said no there were too many or these old (old?) parts to keep track of them all.
I pushed back a little bit since the whole point of rebranding parts is so people return to buy replacement parts from you when they need them. Again, Anthony & Sylvan had removed all OEM markings and then neglected to keep a cross reference so owners could buy replacement parts. He did say it was probably one of two companies and gave me their names. He said I could call them or go on-line to work this out. No offer of further assistance.
Let me be clear in the overall scheme of things this is a small matter. But the poor business practice evidenced here coupled with the cavalier attitude of the Anthony & Sylvan employee would give me pause were I considering doing business with them. The local pool supply guy will eventually work this out I'm sure. I just hope we don't have any more serious issues with this pool.
Thank you for bringing these concerns to our attention. We have located your account and will be contacting you within 48 hours to help you find the correct replacement part for your unit.

I think I may have just found out about Anthony and Sylvan online. Honestly, it was probably the guy that came out to sell us our pool that made us choose them, first of all. And I could tell he’s a very standup guy and I could tell by his character and all that he took very seriously what he did and he stood behind it. We were discussing warranties and maintenance, things like that, and the guarantees that were offered if we went with them. That was a big selling point, the fact that so many things were guaranteed and guaranteed for the life of the pool. It was a new install, a concrete freeform pool using chlorine. We have a waterfall. I love it!
We had a salesperson come out and he was just so accommodating and so patient and respectful and professional. And then the guy that was kind of our consultant that we dealt with throughout the whole process, to me is what customer service is really all about. He was the epitome of customer service and he’s always there. He was honest, fair, and was always easy to talk to and took any question that I had, and just a real go-getter. It was a very positive experience where customer service was at an optimum level and that is not something that you truly see nowadays as much, and very quality work.

My design guy was super and he gave us a pool that we really do like. My project manager was very good, very helpful. And all the contractors were here when they should have been. I found Anthony & Sylvan online but their name was familiar. I’ve gotten kind of a local quote as well, and they were pretty similar, but I just felt comfortable going with a bigger name, and Tom was the main reason. The salesman made me feel very comfortable. And he did a lot of work putting together a quote. They built me a new pool in the deck. It’s a brand new in-ground pool with a spa. Well, the uniqueness of the situation was the fact that I was in California at the time. We were moving here to Texas. And so I wasn’t on site for a lot of the building of the pool and that made me very nervous. But Tom, the rep that handled it, walked me through the whole process and they made a very scary situation of not being here while they were building a pool very easy by communicating. I wasn’t real fond of the color.
What I like about Anthony & Sylvan is the quickness of the project, how fast the project was performed and if I had any questions, they were quick to respond back to any questions I had. And the great thing about it is they stood behind their work. I would recommend them to a friend. I would never recommend Anthony & Sylvan Pools. I guess because we don't live in a large metropolitan area, they couldn't fit us into their busy schedule. Then when our friends decided to build a pool from Anthony and Sylvan, they were almost completed before us. After numerous calls to customer service, we finally got put on the same schedule and the pool was completed. However,we had numerous problems and trying to get someone out for repairs was a nightmare. We also purchased a salt water pool, only to learn the salt causes the flagstone around our pool to deteriorate.
When the lights went out in the pool, they came out after several months and several calls and finally replaced my lights, only for me to learn later, that they had replaced them with the wrong lights. It plainly stated on the lights "not for salt water pools". I have had several tiles fall off the pool as well as the salt generator went out after a couple years. Needless to say, we have switched over to a chlorine pool as well as switched pool companies. Never again would I use Anthony & Sylvan Pools!!

After sharing my review, I was contacted by Owen from Anthony & Sylvan. He helped me to coordinate some of the non-Anthony & Sylvan contractors that I hired for other Hurricane Sandy repairs. With his help, we were able to streamline the process and get the pool renovation completed to my satisfaction.
Original Review: Sept. 25, 2013
Our pool was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy. We contracted with Anthony Sylvan in April 2013. They promised that construction would start in May and be finished by the end of June. Construction did start in May. They took out existing tile and coping and left. We didn't hear from them for two weeks and began calling. We placed multiple phone calls to customer service without receiving a return phone call. After over a week of calling, customer service actually answered the phone. Apparently, we weren't on their schedule for the next step. We fell through the cracks with no one noticing.
They scheduled the next step, leveling the pool, for June. They came and disappeared. I began calling again, and this time it took three weeks until customer service finally picked up their phone. They said they were waiting for my electrician to finish supplying the pool filter with power. I called the electrician, who said that he had never been called by A-S to perform the work. It then took A-S 2 or 3 times to get the electrical specs to my electrician. Now we were into August, with the pool season passing. Work was finished and nothing happened. So I called, again and again. This time, the construction supervisor was reluctant to install the pool filter because he heard that theft was a problem at the Jersey Shore. Did we want to wait until 2014 to finish the pool?
When told NFW, they agreed to install the filter. That was August. Again, I had to call A-S to say what's next? They wanted my electrician to install lights before they plastered. Okay by me. They called the electrician and wanted him to drain the pool, install the lights, and refill. Draining the pool near the shore can throw it off level. It took a week for them to say that the work could be done as they would do it with their own crews - same day. They wanted the electrician to buy a pool light, a $400 item that wasn't included in the original bid. Electrician bought the light and said, "Call me when you want me to show up."
Two weeks later, I began calling A-S, no response. I called the electrician. A-S never called him to schedule the work. It is now the end of September, and really, 5 months after signing a contract, not much work has been done. It's been one of the more frustrating experiences among a host of frustrating experiences trying to repair a house at the Jersey Shore. ONLY USE A-S if a contract contains a huge penalty for not getting work done on time. If they can't get the work done, use someone else. I can't attest to the quality of their work. The pool is torn up and looks like garbage.

Construction did not start as stated. Many delays due to bad weather, however, when we had nice, warm days, no one came to work. Project Manager didn't show up after each segment of the construction to check on the workmanship. Poor communication between Project Manager and sub-contractors. Poor workmanship on tile (exposed a cut end of tile showing the white cut end instead of the blue finished end) and coping (many pavers were pitted and were to be replaced, however, they replaced the pitted pavers with other pitted pavers). Try to get a hold of anyone from Anthony Sylvan on a weekend.... GOOD LUCK! Would never recommend Anthony & Sylvan to anyone interested in having a pool built.

I am totally disappointed with this experience and have given up on ever enjoying my pool. As I told Eric, my salesperson, I had been diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time in 2 years. I would be undergoing major surgery (think Angelina Jolie) and an arduous recovery afterwards. Having an inground pool was a lifelong dream and it was really now or never. I specifically asked if this appeared to be a yard which would be conducive to a smooth process and was all the work subbed out. I was told that that the project manager would handle it all and NOT ALL the work was subbed out.
My pool was started in mid-May and as of today (8/31) it is still not complete. I was also sent today to have my water tested for when it will be completed. I drove 40 minutes away to find the company which is supposed to do the final plastering is a closed up building and a for sale sign on the property. My "pool" has been filled with green swampy slime for well over a month and I have brought in a pest control service to spray weekly for mosquitoes. I have AT LEAST 100 toads in the pool. My husband has drained it twice and SHOVELED out the slime while my nephews caught and dumped the toads.
The total experience has been very stressful, expensive (EVERY subcontractor cost extra). They've ruined my driveway and broken my sewer lines. I've had a backhoe buried in my yard. It has rained in epic amounts and NO ONE AT ANTHONY & SYLVAN EVER ANSWERS THE PHONE OR RETURNS PHONE CALLS. My friends refer to my new home as SWAMP HOLLOW. At this point I try not to look at my backyard and I hope I someday get to use this extremely expensive mistake.

It was basically through our friend on how we heard about the company. His pool was built by Anthony and Sylvan, and then he had some renovation work done also later. We had the coping and the tile replaced. The guy that came in helped us choose the tile and so forth. The salesman was basically fine, very helpful. At that point, I knew that what I wanted was that replaced but he helped us go through the procedure and choose. I like the tile that I chose.
The workmen were just really great. It was a crew of three. The one gentleman did most of the talking with me because he could understand English. I think the other two sort of could but not as much as he could. As far as their work ethic, I think it was excellent. The first day, they dismantled the areas that had to be taken out. And everything was cleaned up. They did a very neat job. He even washed down the driveway. And then the second day, they did the solid work on the tiling and the coping. They really did a beautiful job! The coping that I had which was 30 years ago, they don’t make that anymore. And the type that they use now, I liked it a lot. I was very pleased with it.

This is a pool refurbishing. My husband oversaw the whole project. He just likes the way Sylvan sets up their system. You get the salesman that comes in. He came in and told us what he was going to do and we had had two other estimates after him and they didn’t even come close to the way he was going to do it. And then he says, “Okay, this is how it’s going to go.” It was very directly told to us. “You’re going to pay this and they’re going to come and do this. They’re going to do this and you’re going to do this and someone’s going to call you before each project is started.” And that’s exactly how it went. I would call every now and then because we had a lot of rains which they can’t help.
Other than that, I think he just really likes the way everybody was an expert in each little thing that they did because he thinks all these other pool companies were just going to come in and everybody was going to do everything. He didn’t like that idea. The first swimming pool that was put in was basically done the same way or just maybe a little different because it was a brand new installation. We love our Sylvan pool and it’s over 30 years old and it looks like it was just put in.
Thank you very much for sharing this, Dorothy. We're very pleased to hear that we were able to make the process so simple for you and your husband. Enjoy your "new" pool and we're always here for you if you have questions.

I had my pool built about 7 years ago. When my pool was 1st complete (1st week) I noticed a slight stain at the bottom, I was told it was nothing and by the end of the summer it will disappear - it didn't. The following year when I opened my pool the stain was very noticeable, we reached out to A&S and they sent a service crew over. When they arrived, they told us they would have to drain the pool and acid wash the entire surface - this would leave the surface rough and sharp to the point where we would cut our feet. We opted to leave the stain alone, as opposed to cutting our feet. Each and every year the stain gets worse. In addition every year some tiles have come off.
Last year I took the time to file an official complaint with A&S. They sent an inspector over, his analysis was my landscaper did not have the right spacing for the expansion joint. My landscaper was at this meeting and told them the cement had too much mud and not enough stone which is why the cement was crumbling. My landscaper told the inspector if it was solely due to the expansion joint why is tile coming off in the spa area where the expansion joint was not an issue. The inspector’s response was it’s a high traffic area for flowing water. At the conclusion of the meeting my landscaper agreed to correct the spacing of the expansion joint, I also paid $850 to have the tile re-applied by a contractor that A&S provided. When I opened my pool this year about 2 or 3 tiles were off and every week since more have come off.

We have had the poorest customer service with Anthony & Sylvan. The beginning of the project was okay. Unfortunately, they promised a turnkey operation and we have had to call them to understand when the next phase of the project would be started. Then there was an elevation change and the hardscaper wanted a lot more money to do the paving around the pool. After 4 weeks of inactivity, there was finally a resolution - not that we didn't have to pay something towards their mistake. Now the hardscaper is part-way through the project and HE isn't showing up. On top of that, the Project Manager from Anthony & Sylvan is not engaged at all in following where the project is and what is being done. We are not even allowed to have his cell phone number. To contact our "project manager" we have to call the office and leave a message (he's never in the office). What kind of operation is this?
I would NEVER, EVER, EVER recommend Anthony & Sylvan to install a pool. This project has been a nightmare. I feel that we were sold a bunch of lies. Oh, and of course, A&S has 90% of the money and it's been 3 months and the backyard looks like a war zone. They have us over a barrel and it stinks. We are totally at their mercy. DO NOT BUY A POOL FROM ANTHONY & SYLVAN. And I don't want a phone call or contact from A&S. Nothing gets done - just a bunch of lip service.

I had my pool built approx. 8 years ago. Since then I have had tiles & coping coming loose. I made the hollow sound of the coping & tile aware to them soon after the pool was constructed they said there was no issue. During construction, it appeared to me as if the mortar was setting up as the coping was being installed. A few years ago they DID come out & replaced a small portion of the tile which totally fell off that bordered the spa spillway. I have received several letters advertising pool renovation from A&S. Really? An investment such as this should last several decades in my opinion.

We've had our pool for two years and I was determined to live with the shortcomings. I voiced my feeling to A&S in writing but never received any form of response. As my children and their friends get older (and larger), the issue has come to the forefront. Our pool was dug MUCH too shallow. I'm mending busted lips and cuts on a routine basis. Aft full volume, the water does not come above my belt-line in 60% of the length.
We feel as if we got 50% of the pool we were promised at 100% of the price. The seven foot deep end is also only 6'6" (not nearly as big a problem). Our pool was dug by one man when we were promised a minimum of two. It appears that in an effort to complete the job in a timely manner, he cut corners. When I voiced my concerns, I was told it would be fixed. It never was. We are weighing our options at this time and have ruled out nothing.

We have been waiting 2 months for A&S Pools to resolve their mistake. They managed to totally botch the installation of one of their most high-end features. The installation was not properly executed by their contractors. The contractors do not communicate with the other contractors working on your pool. They do not work for A&S. Supposedly using A&S design and plans, they have managed to ruin our plans to complete the installation on time. We have spoken with local project managers, and regional managers (who seemed genuinely concerned) but who have not been able to help expedite a resolution to our pool woes. Communication with them is difficult and the project managers do not follow up with us. This has not been a good experience at all. Although all of the other work done on the pool was done well and the pool is beautiful. The most important feature to us cost just under $3K and we are still waiting. Pool is paid in full, but we have not gotten the pool we paid for yet. If you contract with them, be sure to ask for good project manager. One that pays attention to the details of your design and one who communicate with you on the status of your installation. As a paying customer, A&S pools should have more regard for customers after the sale.

From start to finish, we were very satisfied with our pool remodel. When we bought our house five years ago the pool clearly need some TLC. By our second year here, we had tiles coming off and the coping was crumbling. The rep came out and told me exactly what would happen, had me pick my options and stayed in touch throughout the remodel.
We did run into a snag with a timing issue (one step of the process happened ahead of another which made extra work for the men) but they got right to it, were always professional, courteous and they worked very hard. We were up against a deadline as we wanted to have our daughter's graduation party as a pool party and they made it happen. Our pool is now beautiful, I couldn't be happier. We just had another family gathering this weekend and I love seeing our guests enjoying the pool as much as we do! Thank you Anthony & Sylvan!

Never ever, never ever buy a pool from Anthony Sylvan Pool Company. It should be listed as Anthony Sylvan Clown Show. They have all these people running around, all independent contractors that only know their job or part of all the steps needed to be completed. The problem is they are not employees of Anthony Sylvan, but independents. They do not talk with or plan out the hand off from one step to the next. No one checks or cares if the last guy did his job right or finished it at all. Each contractor just shows up and starts what he knows ready to not. Now I married a Mexican. You can't say I do not like Mexicans as a people. I married one. But my God, if you are working a job, someone on the job needs to be able to talk to the home owner. However, you know how this all works and it is unfair to those worker too. Some rich white guy charges a lot of money to do the work and then hires low wage people who really do not care.
I am completely remodeling a new model home nuts I know, but I wanted it all my way. I have so much work to do, I'm having every trade in the house - painters, plumbers, dry wall guys electricians and on and on. So Anthony Sylvan came to my house, gave me a price and told me that is everything they need and will not need me to make any other decisions or take up your time after you sign the deal. He said the next thing you will hear from us is get in the pool. WOW, great! Just what I wanted to get a pool in and use none of my time. I had to pay another contractor they use to take out all my plants and clear the yard for the pool install. Then that person was going to tile the yard after the pool was in too. So the deal was he would remove all the landscaping, put all my plants in pots and leave them for installing when the pool was in.
I came home that first day and found all my plants in the trash, and all my lighting ripped out. Nice, but just the start. The next problem (and remember, I wasn't supposed to put any time into this build), they laid out the pool and re-barred it all. Then the electrician came in and installed all the electric and lights. I checked the pool that night to see what had been done and if I could truly trust them. While I ordered two lights in the pool, they installed one. So I waited a few days to see if the hot shot crew leader, job site manager would notice the mistake. He never did. No attention to detail with this company. I thought about just letting them spray the cement in and then have to cut it out again, but I would pay later if it cracked apart. So I asked why only one light was installed when I paid for two. You know the drill. I got a SORRY.
Next they continued the gas line, bought down from the meter for my pool heat to supply a BBQ on the other side of the house. It would be so much easier since a trench was all ready for the most part there. It would be just dropping in line in the ground. They said there would be an additional charge. I said I know, but how much could it be since we were more on the way there. They came back with a price of $2,600. Since I had told them to do it already and send me a bill, I had to pay it. $2,600 for 30-foot of hose. In my signed contract, it states very clearly any additional gas pipe needed will cost $16.50 a foot. I think I was screwed here. Do the math.
Now there is a long deep trench opened for the gas line and since I was putting tile over most of my small backyard, I bought a 2 inch PVC pipe and asked them to drop it in the trench so I can run wires underground after the tile is installed. They closed the trench and never put the PVC in, saying they would dig it up later and then put the pipe in. Who fills in a trench then dig it up again to put a pipe in it?? So next I was putting in a staircase and need a 2x2x2ft cement block with re-bar put in the ground before the tile was installed. So at the end of the week, I was looking over the installed tile and noticed my re-bar unit laying in my garden. They forgot to install the cement and the re-bar, so they had to pull up the tile again and so I could hire someone to do the job they forgot. Oh yes, at this point I am having no part in Anthony Sylvan doing anything outside the contract.
Now I had my yard professionally re-planted and they have put all the construction cement and other junk in my newly planted garden, screwing all the new stuff up so I have to replace those plants now. So at this time, all the tile isn't down. I reminded them I had low voltage lighting around my house before they ripped it out and reminded them were hired to just remove the plants. So I spent another hundred for all new wiring, laid it out on top of the tile and said, "Before you get all the tile down, you need to lay down this new low voltage wire."
OMG, the guy from Sylvan pool goes off on me, "Why do you want lighting there? You do not need it and on and on." P.S. I got divorced because I got sick of listening to why I couldn't do something and it was a big flash back. This guy is my ex-wife all over again telling me what I need and do not need. So I looked out the next day and all the tile is down and the wires are still laying on top of the tile. I called the rep down and they are all pissed now because I want the tiles taken up to install the wire. Really, didn't we go over this two days ago when the tile wasn't installed yet?
Okay, let's move on to the finish. They up-sold me to a better finish. I was okay with that when I saw how nice the samples were in the showroom. Why not? Does my pool look anything close to that? Not a chance. Now it's my problem. During the tile installation in the pool and spa, I noticed the worst job of installing the tile ever. Getting anything straight and level wasn't in their book. Then they cut the tiles dry, crippling all the cut areas. So the project manager was called to look at the tile. He asked what is my problem with the tile??? Really, Stevie Wonder called and said he had a problem with the tile install (for those of you that do not know, he is a blind singer). So after a lot of talking (and that is putting it lightly), they agreed to take it all out and start over. But get this, they are using the same tile over with all the clips in them and all cut different, heights too. See the report from a legal tile inspector. This is all they do and their opinions hold up in court every time.
And there is so much more, but I hope you get the picture by now. Let's move on to getting the pool fired up. Now remember we agreed before I signed the check that I would have a working pool for July 4th. That means heated too. So they called me 4 days after the last inspector has signed off the pool and everything completed, done. The city never has to come back and say, "Oh, you need to call the gas company and get a bigger meter installed." I called and the gas company gave me a date of July 8th. So there goes my promised pool party, thanks Anthony Clown Sylvan pool company. No one cares or listens to you from that company.
So then I called since the pool is full of dirt and other stuff. The company they use to get the pool ready and turn it over to the new owner doesn't have my name listed as an owner, so I am out of luck. I went to the office and asked for my manuals, remote control or anything that will help me understand how to get this pool operational. I was told, "Sorry, we can't help you and no one in our company is available to help you. No one is returning our calls to help you either." So now it's up to me to hire a plumber to hook up the heater and try to get it to work, hire someone to clean the pool, etc.
Like I said, NEVER EVER, NEVER EVER BUY A POOL FROM THIS COMPANY.

When my wife told me she wanted a pool installed in conjunction with our new home construction, I fought her tooth and nail. I had heard horror stories from friends and read many reviews online about Anthony & Sylvan, as well as every other pool company I could find. I was scared.
As usual, my wife won the argument and we told our builder (Sekas Homes in Vienna, VA) we wanted him to contract with someone for the pool. We didn't tell him who to contract with but expressed our concerns about quality. He told us not to worry as he had worked with Anthony & Sylvan on numerous occasions and they had always done quality work. I had to pay extra because I was doing this through the builder, but I thought it would be a good "insurance policy" in case things did not go well - especially during our first year of ownership.
We have been in our home for just over one month now and I want everyone to know that I have been nothing but happy with Anthony & Sylvan thus far. Not only is the pool beautiful and fun but their customer service has been superb. Let me be more specific:
I elected to have a peanut-shaped pool and in-ground hot tub installed. The pool is about 25,000 gallons and finished with a cobalt blue plaster. It has slate stone coping and an inexpensive paver deck surrounding. The design session with A&S was quick and easy. They then worked with the builder to ensure the pool was completed on schedule - it was. After we "signed" on the pool, I did some more research on pool equipment and options, etc., and sent a very long email to the A&S design person. He called me back right away and answered every detail point by point. We even made a few changes based on the discussion - no extra charges or hassles.
Once the pool was filled with water, the A&S pool technician came out to teach me the basics for operating and maintaining the pool. He was outstanding. He gave me his cell phone number and asked me to call him directly if I ever had any trouble. I took him up on that offer when I couldn't remember some parts of his instruction. He graciously went over it again - no waiting and no layers of bureaucracy to get a simple answer.
30 days later, another technician came out as scheduled to install the salt in the water and instruct me on the use of the salt chlorination system. He was extremely knowledgeable and got me up to speed the first time.
Thus far, I've had three problems with the pool. The first was the heater for the hot tub. It worked fine in "manual" mode, but only heated the water to 80 degrees when in the "remote control" mode. They tried to help me with this over the phone but it proved unsuccessful. Luckily, the technician for the salt was coming in a few days and he made an adjustment to the remote control software and got me up and working painlessly.
The other two were pretty minor issues, but since one of the A&S executives reached out to me via email and asked if I had any concerns at all, I went ahead and forwarded these - I was mainly curious how he would respond. I was impressed. The two issues were 1) the water feature we have had a slight 'split' in the waterfall and 2) the cobalt blue plaster was a little 'splotchy' in areas. He responded immediately and scheduled one of the senior technicians to come out and take a look.
This technician fixed my water feature in 3-seconds and told me that A&S allows for an "Acid Bath" treatment any time during the first three years of pool ownership. He suggested I schedule this just prior to the spring 2014 start-up. He said it is done without draining the pool and will smooth out the colors as well as bring out the blue even more. One additional note - I've enjoyed visiting our local A&S pool supply store. The manager there is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. He has not tried to sell me chemicals I don't need.
That's it. No cracks. No leaks. No products that don't work. When I call the local A&S office, I speak to a real person right away. I call technicians directly if I have questions. My pool is beautiful and I've been told I can expect 25 years of solid performance before I need to worry about re-plastering. I couldn't be happier with our builder's decision to use A&S. I am in the Northern VA area and paid about $100k for the pool.

I bought an Anthony Pool a number of years ago; pool size is 640 square feet. We bought this pool from Anthony for several reasons but the major reason was warranty and "We service what we sell". Well, after a few years, I needed to replace the filters in the filter system and was informed that it was discontinued because it was a "hazard". So I had to find it elsewhere with no help from Anthony. Then, just recently, I developed a leak in the lines and called for a repair. They gave me to another contractor for leak detection and said, "We do not do underground work," forcing me to look elsewhere. I am also getting prepared to have the pool re-plastered for a total cost of over $6,000.00 for which Anthony will lose out on. I asked the people at the local store for the Home office number and the name of the President and was refused. After doing research, I found out that they are HQ'd in Ohio. I have called and have not had a response as of yet from them. So for a company that takes pride in what they sell, they do not want to service it.

Our family decided to invest in a pool. We saved for years to afford an Anthony Sylvan pool because we believed they were the best. The cost was 20% more than other companies quoted but we believed you get what you pay for, so we spent the extra money for an AS pool. Several problems, the pool that they are building isn't the pool that was discussed with our sales agent. When we expressed concern, our sales agent never called or emailed us back. So we weren't waiting until mid summer for the pool to be finished. We gave up the fight and decided to just deal with the pool as is. Then one contractor after the next came to my home and each one demanded extra money for services that I think should be included when you buy a $40k+ pool. Two weeks ago, someone from AS called to let us know that we must buy a safety cover which will cost $5k. Are you kidding me? You call me 3/4 of the way through the project and tell me that I must find another $5,000. Why wasn't this communicated before now?
I requested a call from the General Manager who contacted me within a day. That was a first. I was impressed. Now, it's been almost 2 weeks and nothing from the GM. Not only that but we go weeks without any activity on our pool. I have no idea when the pool will be done and my kids are getting more and more disappointed. This is one of the biggest purchases we've made and I feel completely disappointed and taken advantage of by a company that could care less about what their customer's experience is. Who owns this company? They should know how bad things are when dealing with their business. I am going to make it my business to share my experience with anyone who will listen. Hopefully, I can help other families considering getting a pool. STAY AWAY FROM ANTHONY SYLVAN POOLS. They are not worth the money and if you value your time, find a company that cares for their customers. AS pools isn't that company, based on my experience.

Extremely unprofessional, they just hire subcontractors with minimum supervision. Our pool is 1 1/2 inches off-level. From the beginning, the pool was extremely dirty, many of the patio's concrete was poured into the pool. I believe they used a small filtration on our pool. They do not return calls on time, and always miss showing up on the promised schedule, even for small items.

I called the toll free number and left a message telling A&S that I had TWO broken heaters. No one returned my call. After over a week, I emailed them and got a return email from Evan. After several days of back and forth emails, he claims that I have to call the pool heater manufacturer and have them repair it. It's out of warranty now and was installed by Anthony & Sylvan in the first place, but they refuse to repair it. I notice that they have very few locations left and service apparently doesn't exist any longer either.

We have had nothing but a positive experience building our pool with Anthony and Sylvan. All stages of this project went smoothly, beginning with our salesman that helped design a pool perfect for our family, the scheduler who always kept us informed of our schedule (rain or shine we knew if someone would be in our backyard) to our project manager who was always detail oriented and ready to answer any questions. All of their crews worked cleanly and respectfully. We have also had only positive experiences with their retail store in Doylestown. Thank you to Anthony and Sylvan for creating a beautiful backyard for our family and a place where many memories will be made.

We purchased our home in 2005, which included a 1-year old Anthony and Sylvan pool. It was winter when we inspected the house, so we did not realize that many tiles had fallen off until we opened our pool in the spring of 2006. I called for two years before anyone got back to me. Repairs were made, which I was grateful for, but the following year when we opened our pool, the tiles again had fallen off (approx 30). We have a professional pool service company come each year and open and close our pool. We follow the guidelines regarding water level, etc and are very dissatisfied with the quality of this pool. The original owners spent approximately $40,000 on this pool and it was factored into the cost of our house. I've called several times last season and again this season and have not had a response. I have always heard great things about Anthony and Sylvan and just wish they would stand behind their product.

Two years ago, my pool was re-plastered. There are rough ledges going up to the tiles in places and it is blended in smoothly in others. There are indentations in the plaster (1/4" by 2") in places. Algae and dirt get into and onto these kinds of rough areas and cannot be scrubbed off. My pool was such a mess after opening that I drained it so that I could scrub it down. The water vent caps were plastered over (5 of them) on the bottom of the pool. I have a stream that runs under my pool so I have to remove the caps. I had to chisel out the caps to get them off. I have called Tony ** at 410-647-7011 with no return call, and left two messages with Robin, one message with Tom and one message with Bill. No one will return my call. What am I supposed to do? My pool sits drained, empty, a mess, and Memorial Day weekend is now 3 days away. Don't your phones work?

Our Anthony Sylvan pools have always been a feature and a favorite spot to relax around our homes. Our first pool was perfect! However, the second pool we had installed by Sylvan has been very marginal, at best. We know small hairline cracks are part of having a plaster pool, especially at the steps. But we noticed the cracks getting larger on the 5th year of this pool. We started losing water slowly and eventually, during winter months, our pool leaked out. Sylvan patched the cracks a few times and even completely stripped the plaster and re-plastered the pool.
The cracks returned in full and even larger in size and width; and Sylvan repaired it 2 years ago. They look terrible and they are open again. When we opened the pool a few weeks ago, the pools water was 3/4 empty. We are in the middle of discussing it with Sylvan, but the same solutions are being offered; and this time, they are even suggesting we re-plaster the pool at our cost! Really? Why would I re-plaster a pool at my cost if I know it is going to crack again? Really? We want our pool back; one that relaxes us rather than cracks us up.

We had a design/salesperson out to talk to us about a pool. We went through the entire design process and came up with a price. We were nervous about the expense, but faced with pressure tactics, winter pricing, special discount, today only, so we decided to go ahead and put money down on the pool. We came to our senses the next day, filled out the cancellation paperwork and sent it in for overnight delivery with a signature required. The contract states our money will be returned to us within 10-14 days. After 2 weeks went by and we still had no check, we called and they seemed to have no knowledge of our situation, but promised that the check would go out the following Friday. This weekend will be one month and we still don't have our money back yet. We were thinking we might be able to commit in the fall, but even if we do it will not be with Anthony Sylvan. This is a really poor way to run a business.

I thought I would like to share with you and your clients the most satisfaction and service I have received even when needing help after 37 years with your pool. Yes, we still have the pool. The finish we had was good for over 30 years and the only reason it was refinished was the damage caused by wild fires here in San Diego in 2007. All we had to do was refinish it. Recently in 2013 we had a problem with our filtration system. Your company helped us tremendously and got us all set up for half the cost others wanted for the same system. There is more I can tell you over the years and the tremendous help and service offered.

We decided to build a pool and our Anthony&Sylvan salesperson made recommendations to us regarding the financing. The salesman was one of the best sales people I've ever dealt with. He made recommendations to us based on our needs. He is intuitive about what the client wants/needs. It was obvious that he is a client-advocate and not simply trying to drive up cost as he clearly outlined pros and cons with each option. Our very large (17,500 gallon) pool was completed in 35 days, from start to finish, which we found astonishing. The pool is beautiful and our neighbors are so jealous.
We have heard horror stories from others who said it took months and months to finish their pool. Some contractors had even walked off their jobs and they were begging for others to finish. We had none of these issues. The construction manager was responsive and the whole project ran like clockwork. I will sing the praises of Anthony&Sylvan to anyone who will listen. We are beyond delighted with this company and can't say enough good things about our experience.

I have had my Anthony and Sylvan Pool for 2 years. My entire family looks forward to our weekend staycations away from the huge crowds and personal relaxation. The pool is screened, has an enormous surround and is the best life-improvement any of us could ask for. My grandbabies - 2, 3, and 13 - love it. It brings the entire family together all year because we all love the heated pool/spa combination Bill suggested. I can't believe how cheap it is to heat and it is absolutely care-free. We all enjoy the privacy of family fun every weekend. The pool has been almost maintenance free. I highly recommend the screen. If you want a great tax deduction in your later years while also receiving fun for family and friends in a spa-like atmosphere, you must get this Anthony and Sylvan pool.
I also want to add that the build was such a wonderful experience. I still feel like they are part of our family. We contracted with Anthony & Sylvan in March 2008 for a pool and spa to be installed. We signed the contract in March 2008 and final inspection was completed in August 2008. Beginning in the summer of 2011, we noticed that we were having to constantly fill the pool with water in order to keep it above the skimmer. We also noticed during this time that small cracks appeared on the surface of the pool. We called Anthony & Sylvan's Austin office and had a representative come by to inspect. We were told by the representative that the cracks were just on the surface and that the pool was only losing that much water because it was evaporating with our hot Texas weather we were having. This answer didn't fair well with us, but these guys are the pool experts right?!
Approximately October 2012, we contacted Anthony & Sylvan again regarding the loss of water. This time we were told that we would have to contact a leak detection service to come by and inspect the pool for leaks. The leak detection service performed an inspection on 10/25/12 and stated, "The pool has multiple cracks and they go up into and through the beam. There are too many to fix. About 75% of them are leaking and there is approximately 40-50ft of cracks." We were charged out of pocket $328 for this service and were not refunded until the week of Christmas by Anthony & Sylvan. Despite the leak detection's advice (there are too many to fix), the warranty manager still had someone come out and seal the cracks with an epoxy. They then turned on our water and filled the pool up. Within a few days, the water levels were back down again.
We again worked with John and have been very patient through the process, to be told today that "We only cover the shell and the pipes within the shell. If it is outside of this, that they will have to assess the cost of the repair. If it's a nominal amount, they may pay for it and repair. But if it's costly, they will have to figure something out and may have to go in 1/2 with us to repair the leak. He stated that it would be one thing if this was a year after the pool was built or even if your pool was 3-4 years old, we might have some wiggle room. But we're talking about an 8-year-old pool". Now our pool was fully complete and inspection done on August 27 2008, making our pool 4 years old.
In all reality, their warranty clearly states "For as long as you own your pool, we will warrant that the pneumatically applied concrete shell will be free from structural cracks and that the pipes, skimmers and main drains installed in and under the pool will hold water for as long as you own your pool. If a leak or structural crack develops, we will repair the shell structure and repair or replace pipes so that they hold water." I'm not happy to be paying on a $37k pool that isn't working for months now. I'm not happy at how much water has been wasted because of this. I'm not happy about constantly having to take money out of my pocket for leak detection. I'm completely angry about the amount of time it takes to get a return call and repair done to our broken down pool.

We had our 22-year old Sylvan pool renovated early summer of 2012. We were extremely pleased with all the work that was done and our pool looks amazing. All the workmen were here when they had said they would be, were courteous and did a great job. When they left, everything had been cleaned up and you wouldn't have known they were here. The people who did the tile and coping were very attentive to detail and made sure each piece was just right. The plaster people were also very dedicated to their work. As a homeowner, I am very particular in how things appear and I cannot say anything bad about the workmanship of the pool.
Thank you very much for your loyalty over the years and for taking the time to share this wonderful feedback, Terry. We are thrilled to hear that you are so happy with your renovated pool. Enjoy!

My wife and I contracted with A&S Pools in the late winter of 2012. We met with a salesperson who did a pretty good job outlining the various details involved in building a pool. We contracted to build a 20x40 foot pool with a rock wall behind the pool and plenty of decking around the pool. The weather in Northern Virginia was very mild which allowed the pool construction to begin early, with few weather related interruptions. The construction manager came to the house to do the final layout. Our backyard contained a fairly steep slope for drainage so shooting the elevations were critical. When the excavation crew showed up, we were advised that the construction manager's elevations were inaccurate and that the grading would have to be more radical, requiring the need for a retaining wall. This added $10,000 to the cost of the project.
In fairness, this was the only major issue to the project, but a substantial one. The excavation went smoothly as did all the remaining steps necessary to build our pool. I will state that the A&S subcontractors (excavation, plumbing, electrical, gunite, plaster, concrete and fencing) were outstanding! The quality of the workmanship was superb. Post construction customer service was slow, however. It took a few months for A&S to send a technician to the house to provide instruction on the various aspects of maintaining a new pool. Once the indoctrination meeting was conducted, it was discovered that the salt water chlorine generator was not working. A follow-up visit remedied the problem and we had no problems maintaining the pool for the remainder of the season. Prior to closing the pool, an A&S subcontractor came to the house to measure for the winter cover. It was at that time I learned that there was more than one option available for winter covers. We had ordered a mesh cover in the original contract.
After talking to the subcontractor, I learned that there was a solid cover available. When setting up the original contract, I was not advised by the salesman that this option was available. I tried to change the order to include the solid cover (and pay the difference) but was advised that the mesh cover had already been constructed. I was very upset, seeing as the salesman had outlined the options for all the other aspects of the pool including filters, heaters, the landscaping options, etc. I must insist, however, that none of these issues affected the quality and beauty of the pool. A&S did a great job on the pool construction. I would recommend A&S to my friends. I would just remind them to do their homework and make sure they cover everything before signing a contract.
Thank you very much for taking the time to share your positive feedback and the wonderful picture! We're thrilled to hear that you're enjoying your new pool and that you found the workmanship quality to be so superb. Fingers crossed that the spring gets here soon!

When I called them, the designer came immediately on time. He was helpful. He knew what he was doing. He was very honest. He took his time. He was polite, courteous, and I just love him. His name is Michael **. I think he's a design coordinator. He told me what I had to have done. My problem was the tile in the pool was coming loose. And he had said that the mastic around the area between the copings and the deck had to be replaced. It's like (sort of) a spongy stuff, and that allows the deck and the coping to expand and detract. That water was going in between there. Thus, the tile was sloughing off. So I needed to replace the tile and the coping.
He sent me an estimate immediately. Well, everything describes you the penny. He came with samples. He was really helpful in helping us decide what we wanted, because when you have all of these choices, what happens - the husband wants one thing, the wife wants another thing. He says that he's actually had to walk out of houses because the husband and wife are fighting. Then I selected what I wanted and they've had us scheduled and they gave me a phone number to call. The scheduling went right just the way they said it would.
The people that came, the first day they came and they removed the coping and the tile (two of three). They came early in the morning. They worked throughout the whole deck. I think they finished up around four o'clock. They cleaned everything up. You would never know anybody was working there that day (and this was hard work). It was unbelievable. I've had a lot of stuff done on my house. I had siding done, roofing done recently. And no one was as meticulous as these people. Two days later, they came to install the tile and the coping and the same thing. It was a different crew, but they were excellent. They knew what they were doing. They just worked right through the day.
Then a couple of days later, the people came to put the mastic down. And that was just about an hour job. They were done in no time. And then Mike came after everything was done to investigate and see that everything went well. It was a lovely experience. Believe me because I had to reschedule (I think) the initial tile and coping removal and I had the number to call and this gentleman then answered the phone - the scheduler was just polite; and whatever day I said, they were available. And like I said, I was so shocked because most of the time I usually have a problem. They were excellent people. I would recommend them anytime.
My pool is 23 years old, and this is the first problem I have ever had with it. I maintain it myself but Anthony installed the pool. This is before they merged into Anthony & Sylvan. It was an Anthony pool. Initially, I had their maintenance people come in. My husband's pretty handy, and he's been taking care of it. Overall, I found them to be professional, courteous, and meticulous in their work.

The sales rep was very pleasant to deal with. He came to our home, explained the process and gave us many styles of tile and coping to chose from. Once we decided, the process went very smoothly. First I want to say, I love our new pool. It did take a lot longer to install than we expected. We signed the Contract in April and couldn't use it till the end of August. They didn't switch over to salt-treated till September. So it took all Spring and Summer long before it was completed. We had a few problems with the guys draining the water inside the gunite towards the driveway, and big trucks got stuck. Also, one of the guys closing the pool, dragged bag and cover across the rough cement and ripped the bag up and put a couple of holes in the cover. But overall, we are very happy with it. Thanks again for the new bag to replace the damaged one. I will still recommend Anthony & Sylvan.
Thanks, Jo! We really appreciate that we can count on you for a recommendation. Sorry to hear that things took longer than expected, but we're happy we were able to resolve all of your concerns and that you're loving your new pool!
