I used Republic and First American Home Insurance and I had a very bad experience with how they deal with their customers. I found America's First Choice Home Club online and then I went with them. It's good that I could get an agent with whom I would always work with, which is not the case in other home warranties. With America's First Choice, at least the agent is able to explain why they are not going to cover something. It's like a personalized experience that you get from them.

The claim filing is very easy. I call the agent and tell him what happened and he would ask for the claim receipt. I can email or fax him the receipt and they'll go from there. Also, I can call my own technician. So, if I have someone that I like best, I can just call them. There was only once where the customer service representatives were not able to understand what I was trying to tell them about an issue. And I had to call them thrice, but other than that, so far, I have a good experience.

I’ve been a homeowner for years and have always had a warranty. I’ve been with AFC Home Club for four years now and I like their prices. Sometimes you pay less and you get less, but I am very satisfied with them. My son is transferring to them, too. I’ve had two disappointments with them, though. I had a guy come out to repair my GE dishwasher. AFC couldn’t find anybody that would service the GE so they had to go to GE themselves. The rep told me that the guy was gonna charge $99, but they would pay the difference. It would be a $40 difference because my copay is $60, and so, I said okay.

But when he came out, the GE guy said that the $99 was just for the diagnostic and that my bill would be $125. When I called AFC, they told me not to worry about it and that they would pay the difference up to $100. The rep meant the difference between the $60 and the $40, but I thought she meant the difference between the $60 and $100. So, I paid it, and then they didn’t wanna give me back my change. I was then coming up for renewal and I wasn’t gonna renew with them, but the guy that I dealt with to renew was very nice. He told me he would take the difference off of my renewal.

The other thing, I had one contractor which was why they had trouble finding a person. What happened was, I put a rug in my washing machine and set it at machine wash. But then the backing came off and it stopped the drainage thing. The tech who came out was very rude, and he almost accused me of wanting to sabotage my own washing machine. AFC denied that claim because the tech told them that the rug shouldn’t have gone in the washing machine. When he came out to fix it the second time, I had my son there because my son was waiting for him to be rude to me. But he was then as nice and sweet as pie. I don’t wanna have to call my son every time I need a repair done so I told AFC not to send that company out again. If they’re hiring rude people, I don’t want any part of it. For the last 10 years, the whole customer service has not been what it used to be.

I was using a different home warranty and after the first year during the time of renewal, I was looking at online reviews and decided to try out America’s First Choice Home Club. So far, I have used the service a couple of times and the quality of work done was perfect. When I had a plumbing issue, I was told that they're gonna submit a request to one of the service companies. Those people showed up and asked me for the payment details. I told them that the payment would be done by the warranty company. I was told they didn't get any such information. So I had to call back AFC and they started talking to the service guy, which all should have happened behind the scenes. In the end, I paid only the amount that I owe per instance, which is $60. While that was good, it could have been managed a bit better. Despite that, I would recommend America’s First Choice Home Club.

I had another home warranty company before, but I was unhappy with them, so I had to seek out another one and I did. I live in California and the property is in Georgia, and my brother who lives in Georgia mentioned AFC Home Club to me. I've had AFC's home warranty for 10 years now and everything has been fine in my experience with them. Since I’m in California and the property is a duplex, I have this management where I have two people that are authorized to put in a claim. My brother is also authorized to put in a claim. When the claims with AFC were submitted, they were prompt and took care of whatever needed to be taken care of. I got notifications every time someone submitted a claim. I would recommend AFC Home Club.

Things break down and I wanted a home warranty. America's First Choice Home Club was the first one I spotted. My claims experience with them has been slow. Their reps were nice and answered my questions for the most part, but it was about a month from when I made the initial claim to when I finally got someone out there, which was very irritating. The response time wasn’t the issue, but customers were saying that they weren’t using AFC anymore because they were having problems being paid. After so many attempts to get someone to come out, the tech finally came out. He was good and got the job done. Plus, he was right on time.

Things always happen and it’s a lot of money to fork over at once. So, I would rather pay in smaller amounts and know that I’m covered if anything happens. AFC Home Club has the best rate compared to others and their cost on service fees was $5 less than all the other ones that I’ve noticed so I decided to go with them. I gave them a call when I submitted a claim and let them know what was going on. What was fixed on my pool wasn’t generally covered but I haven’t used them at all this whole year and they wanted to help me out for being a good customer, so they covered it. It took a week to get the contractors out but once they arrived, they were great and nice. The quality of work was good but I'm gonna give them a callback because it’s still leaking a little bit. Nevertheless, people should use AFC.

Everybody did a super good job and the experience submitting a claim was really good. The gal that we dealt with was very helpful and she walked us through it. She told us how to do it. They wanted certain things, numbers and models. And we did exactly what she said, and everything fell right into place. It was really super easy. They were really there and supportive and hooked us up with somebody in our area. It took a couple of days for the contractor to come out and it took a little bit of time to finalize things. He did some readings and found out that we needed more parts than he had on hand. Once everything got approved by AFC, he ordered the part and things fell into place quite quickly after that. He took about two weeks. It wasn't perfect but the contractor was great. We've had AFC for a long time and when we used them and needed to use them, they came through. It was very easy to sign up with them as well.

I was a single parent and being a single parent, I don’t do a lot of the gentleman stuff, and I travel a lot so I’ve always had warranties on all my properties. I’m not a handyman so having a warranty is very valuable. When I first bought a house back in 1994, I kept them with the property. But because this is a new house, it didn’t come with a warranty. I didn’t want TotalProtect or American Home Shield anymore, so I tried to look into something different, and we went with America's 1st Choice.

My husband and I usually submit our claims over the phone, and we haven’t had any problems with our interactions with the reps. I have a problem, however, with the follow-up because one time it seemed like my stuff had dropped in a loop. The guy that first started the repair of our dishwasher got sick before he could complete the job or order the part. We sat here over a week or so before we started to call AFC and ask them what was going on. Then we ended up starting all over again. The turnaround time was okay but we had to keep calling. The person who was supposed to make an appointment with us didn’t quite make it in a timeframe I thought they should have. The contractors that have come were fine, so far, but the return time should be better.

The part that I don't like with AFC is that we’re gonna deal with the renewal of the warranty every year. I thought it would be automatic. And when I went online to sign up for it, I thought I was going directly to AFC. I didn’t find out, however, that I was going through a broker until two days ago. A guy was calling and asking about renewal to save us money, but I’d rather not deal with a broker and I’d rather deal with the company directly. I seriously would like to know how to get rid of that gentleman. I was thinking about what the end of this would be if I didn’t go directly, so we won’t be getting contacted by anybody trying to sell us a different product. Still, AFC is better than TotalProtect and American Home Shield.

The reps were polite and knowledgeable, and we had pleasant dealings. The contractors came out within a day or two. I've had one contractor out and they were able to complete the claim. Having this warranty is extremely valuable, especially if you are new to the property and you don't know if it has been taken care of. It helps with getting adjusted to the place. I made a claim online Friday morning for my furnace not consistently coming on and mentioned in the comments that the thermostat would intermittently shut off. By Friday pm I had not heard anything so I called in and was told they changed my issue to "thermostat" based on my comments and that now someone would be in touch Monday. Regardless, without a thermostat, you have no heat. I am not sure why that is less of a priority. I was given the option to use my own HVAC tech if I wanted and given the guidelines if I did so. While I was getting the rundown about using my own HVAC tech, I was advised I had to get a service contract on file to show I was getting routine maintenance on the AC and furnace quarterly; so I purchased that as well. I waited Monday, no call, so I called my own HVAC and the control board was bad.

Had it replaced, submitted a paid invoice with photos and 10 days later I get a call stating that my furnace is only worth $150 based on the serial number of the unit and that is all they could assist me with. I paid $450 for the control panel. So when I asked what is the point of paying $160 for a service contract to maintain a unit you claim is only worth $150 based on a serial number; typical response. "It's in your contract." This issue was not maintenance related clearly. My furnace is 11 years old the owners where seasonal owners; they winterized the house and barely lived here. Why are you basing the unit's life on serial number and not condition? Why require a maintenance contract if you are gonna low ball everyone's appliances.

Then the icing on the cake, the person on the phone says, "So will you be moving forward with repairs?" Well, considering it's been 10 days, the receipt says paid and it's January, I'd say yes! Do us a favor and don't read work tracks, read the file in front of you and be a little less robotic. When I called back to get a better explanation and stated I had questions about my account, the person said, "Ok what do you want to know?" She did not ask my name, account number, phone number. Then she spoke over me a lot. I understand depreciation but this is ridiculous. I will not renew my warranty. I would rather shop around or self-retain than be treated so discourteously.

I have tried about five home warranties and I was pretty disappointed. At that time, I had four rental homes and I had to have a home warranty. I didn’t like the way the contractors operate and also because customer service never came up as expected. I dropped all of them. I’ve been without a home warranty for a year. I thought I would try again and I have thought about America’s First Choice Home Club.

The customer service was quite good when we called. The only thing was that the first time I tried to get service for one of my rental homes, AFC asked me for the model and serial number. How would I remember after so many years? I thought, "Okay, this is not working for me." So I did my own thing with my own handyman. The next time I needed service was a plumbing issue, and that went well. When I asked the marketing team, they said the plumbing, walls and faucets are covered. I thought that was good.

I asked for service for my rental home two months ago for a faulty shower line and faucet. At that time, I was out of the country and I couldn’t go on to the internet. I had to do it long distance call. I was told by the reps that it is not covered. So I just asked my daughter to get a plumber and then do it. I had to pay out of my pocket. So I was thinking then that when I get back, I want to talk to AFC to see why it was not covered because as far as I understood, the plumbing, the wall, the faucets are covered. When the plumber had to go into the wall and repair, it costs us $450, it was more than what I paid for the premium. I was pretty disappointed with that.

There also was a toilet leak at our rental home. I called for home warranty and I was told that it is not covered. I have to ask a plumber to do it and he did it for $300. So after then, on the same house, it was already 750. I am really confused as to why there are differences between what I believe and what is really covered. I have been spending a lot more.

Until now, AFC hasn’t been very helpful to me but I kept it because if it is an issue for water heater or the AC that has to be replaced then it would be useful. That’s what I thought. Fortunately, my water heater and AC are still doing okay. Even then if something happens and they call me for model number, serial number, and all that, then it would not be very helpful. I am thinking that when my one-year warranty is up, I might as well stop it if I have to be paying out of pocket for certain things and it costs more than the premium.

I had a dishwasher that had the good stars from Consumer Reports when I bought it but after a while, they were having trouble with it. So I thought I better buy a warranty. I chose America's First Choice Home Club for the reviews on it and when my washer went out, they covered the part. That worked out good for me. But I’m hesitant to go forward because of cost. With as much money as you end up spending with AFC, you can definitely put some of that money away for new appliances.

Submitting a claim hasn’t been a problem though. Although it didn’t really work when I tried to do it online, I did it over the phone and it was easy. They also let you take your own technicians or use the one that they recommended. I couldn't find anybody to work on my Whirlpool appliance so they ended up sending out their person and he was good and efficient. They had an issue where their car got broken into and they lost tools. So they had to reschedule but they ended up showing up when they said they would. Then they did the work I needed.

I moved to a different location so I decided to look into getting a home warranty and I looked at the ratings. I got America's First Choice and so far, my experience in submitting a claim has been okay. I do that over the phone. I called when I had a shower drain that needed to be cleared and they said that was fine. But when the technician came out, he said that to clear the drain, he would have to snake it. That wasn’t included so I had to pay extra for having it snaked. According to my plan, clearing the drain was included but snaking it was not. But to clear a drain, it seems like you would normally snake it. So I don't know. Also, the technician didn’t snake the drain all the way to the cleanout. He did a very minor one. He did reduce his charge a little bit but I still had to pay extra for it. So I wasn’t happy about that.

    Ms. Mitchell,

We did cover the toilet repair but with your plan snaking the drains is an add on feature. That can be added on at any time for $50.00. If you would like to call and add this on please feel free. If this is a common occurrence in your home it would be worth it.

The second technician just had to cancel and reschedule. He was scheduled for one day, and then he couldn't come that day, and then he had to come another day.

When I bought my house, it came with one for the first year, but I wasn't happy with the company. Then, I saw America's First Choice Home Club, saw the good reviews and thought I'd try it. Submitting a claim was good in comparison to what we went through with the other company. The representative I dealt with was very good. The claim was for a piece of our pool equipment and our pool guy had said that if there was any way that he could just get the new piece of equipment and install it for us, he would be happy to do that. And we were all very pleasantly surprised that America's First Choice allowed that, and then it all went so smoothly. So, we did not use their contractor. We used our own. Having this warranty was very valuable because we didn't have to pay a penny. We were covered for the amount that it cost. So, that was perfect. I would recommend it.

We had trouble with the person that they contracted with to come out and fix the problem. Then, they would tell us to give him a call and tell him this and that. My husband and I thought that America's 1st Choice should have given him a call. But anyway, we called him and we finally got it solved. It took a long time, though. I was a first-time home buyer and I used to be with American Home Shield. I was not unhappy with them but I like to have multiple choices so I went on to see what America's 1st Choice has. When I signed up, they said that I’ll be assigned a point of contact and when I submitted a claim the first time for my air conditioner, it was a bit tricky and I was not happy with the experience. It was in the middle of summer and I have two infants at home. It says that they are 24/7 but every time I reached out to them, there was no callback and no follow-up. My point of contact would not pick up his phone.

I reached out to AFC and they told me that he was no longer with the company. Nobody sent me an email telling me about a new point of contact. I felt there was nobody assigned. So, I ended up finding an air condition technician on my own. However, AFC called back and I told them about it. They credited me for the service call but my out of pocket with the local tech ended up more. I had the impression like, "What did I sign up for?" The second time though that I made a claim was a much better experience. I spoke to Karen and her customer skills were awesome. I also had awesome interaction with the technicians who came to my home.

But, I'm very displeased with their service. I was a member with them for two years and for my first claim, I called and requested service for the washer. The repairman came out but it didn’t work out right. He had to come out three times. Then towards the end of the service, I had my second case which was for the hot water heater that was not working. My previous company basically replaced my AC system for me with a brand-new unit, but America's 1st Choice would not replace the hot water heater. They would give me around $180 because I purchased a new one and I have to find an installer to install it and take out my old hot water heater.

I've submitted the receipt and everything, but it's been two and a half months since and I have not received the money yet, even though the representative I've talked to said she has my receipt and she's gonna send it out the following week. I called in about three times regarding this with between December 20th and 25th as the most recent call and they were not really giving me much answers. My service expired on December 30th, so I decided not to renew since my first call took so many times and I didn't even get my check on my second call.

Submitting a claim for service is easy but I’m not necessarily thrilled with the nitty-gritty of how they nitpick what they will and will not cover. Our water heater is out and the valve isn’t working, but the valve isn’t covered. The refrigerator's icemaker isn’t covered as well. If they cover a refrigerator, they should cover a refrigerator. The odds nowadays of finding a refrigerator without an icemaker is one to none. It’s extremely hard. Then, my dishwasher got zapped by an electrical surge. They gave me $150 towards purchasing a new dishwasher but that’s not gonna go far for any dishwasher. So, they’re nickel-and-diming us. They’re pinching us on things that should be covered but they don't and yet other companies do cover.

This is the first home that I purchased and the only reason that I was getting a home warranty for it was that the house had a couple of issues and the seller was able to ease my concerns by offering to pay for the first year of home warranty. I got to pick the policy and a budget for that was given as part of the seller’s agreement.

When I looked on the internet for a home warranty provider company, the first one didn’t offer the plan that I was looking for and America’s First Choice was the second one that I looked at. The main thing was that I have two AC units in my house and the other policies that I looked at wouldn’t cover two AC units. On the other hand, the reply that I got from AFC was very prompt and they offered coverage for my two AC units which was perfect because I live in Texas and in the summer heat here, I cannot be without air conditioning for too long. So, I purchased a warranty from them and the cost of the policy that I got was close to the budget that I was given.

Usually, when I submitted a claim, it was initially responded to quickly, but then getting in contact with a claims representative was sometimes frustrating. It took a little while for them to come back with all the right information and be able to answer my questions. Getting a work order started has usually been a week-long process, which could be frustrating. But for the most part, it has been all right because I expected that from just about any home warranty company.

The interactions that I’ve had with the contractors have been frustrating too because they were pretty good at fixing the issue once they knew what the issue was, but diagnosing the cause of the issue has not been a great point with them. We’ve had to call the tech out at least twice for one of our AC unit issues because when he first came out, he fixed what he thought might be the problem, then he came back to fix a different problem instead. So, he was not incredibly knowledgeable, but at least my problems have been resolved. It’s frustrating and a concern that the tech keeps coming out, but as long as the issue gets resolved in the end, then that’s really all that I care about. Typically, for a case like that, it took a week and a half from the time that I submitted the claim till the the problem was diagnosed and fixed. For one of our issues, it was almost two weeks, but for another issue that we had, it was five business days.

Regarding the quality of work that has been done, once the techs have fixed an issue, it stays fixed and we haven’t had recurring issues, at least for the couple of months that we’ve been in the house. We’ll renew with AFC. My expectation is that regardless of any misunderstandings that I may have with the company, I can expect that across-the-board and at the very least, I’ve got some experience with them, so I’ll remain with them until I get a recommendation that something else is better. It works out a little bit better for me and I really like that I can choose from a $75, $100 or $120 deductible on my policy as that gives me an illusion of control. That’s pretty nice because some other warranty companies that I looked at had a fixed plan and told me what my deductible would be.

I was very dissatisfied with American Home Shield and I went on the internet looking for an alternate warranty provider or something alternative. I found AFC Home Club and did some comparisons and decided to go with it. I've had to use the warranty twice and I didn’t like exactly how the first one went. It was a garbage disposal issue and I had to buy a disposal and have it installed. They replaced the cost of the garbage disposal, which was not what I wanted in a plan because I don’t know anything about buying them and all that kind of stuff. Also, I had to scan the document and email it to them. They said it takes up to 30 days to get reimbursed and that wasn’t the issue. It's just that I have to go through that submitting a claim, which is something I wasn’t accustomed to doing.

The second one was about my clothes dryer and they sent a technician out and that’s really all I wanna have to do. So that one was perfect. But I had an issue with the first person they placed me with. He didn’t return my call. I've already waited a week and I rearranged my schedule and stayed at home. Nobody even called me. Then, when I called the contractor, they said they weren't coming out anymore. One appointment must have lasted too long and the tech would not come which I didn't like at all.

I called AFC and complained and the young man that worked with me made sure that he got me with a company. Also, he waived my service fee because he said I have been so inconvenienced because I had to go through a Laundromat, of all places, to dry clothes, something I hadn't done in 30 years. That just was not a pleasurable experience. Ace Technology was the last guy they sent out and he was very professional and on time. He had to come in, put a temporary part in, ordered a part, let me know when it came, and came back and replaced it. He was very good. I would recommend AFC but I would have to tell people to really read their contact closely and know what it is they think they might have issues with.

Then, it was out again on Friday and then came back on. It was saying it was running, but there was no heat coming out.

I called AFC and the girl was giving me the third degree about it. She treated me very uncustomer service-friendly. I asked if I still had to pay the copay since it was the same thing and she said that last time, the thermostat was just black and this time, the heat is not running, so it was not the same thing. It's the same thermostat, the same heater, and in my mind, it's the same thing. She was just very rude. Also, they really wanted to know the model, make, and everything, and I didn’t know well of that. She said she didn’t know if she could put the order in. I told her to give it to the same guy who came out last time. She almost threatened to not put the claim in unless I knew the exact model number and that’s really hard when you're talking about a heater that’s in the attic. They're like underground. My husband looked in the big book that the sellers gave us with every little pamphlet, but it wasn’t there.

I'm about ready to cancel if that’s how I'm gonna be treated. Then I called back because I wanted the manager and they said there wasn’t one. First American never treated me that way. If I called for the same thing wrong, I didn’t have to pay another $50. AFC had someone come and fix the first time and they were nice but the second time, they weren't very nice at all. I felt like I was putting the rep off. I canceled the claim because my husband said then it started working again and it worked all the way good. He said he pulled it out and secured the wires because maybe when the guy was doing something with it, maybe he didn’t put it back well.

I really am thinking about canceling with AFC because they scare me with all their questions. I gave them the name of the item and they were very worried about if it was dirty, they were not gonna fix it. They had to send it for approval before they could authorize somebody to come out here. First American never did that either. First American may be higher, but if every time I call AFC, I'm gonna get through that crap, then I would rather pay more.

I had Old Republic for a while, but every year the rates would go up. They seem to suck you in with a low price and they kept changing it. And so, I wanted to switch and I wanted to find the best home warranty. I looked up in Google and I ended up with America's First Choice Home Club. I like the guy that I talked to, who signed me up. He seemed like a good guy. I probably wouldn't have signed up if he wasn’t so accommodating. He worked with me and explained things.

About a month ago, I had an issue and AFC took care of it. However, I didn’t like that they only have two people to choose from. They were out of the area and neither one of them could do it so I had to do my own research and try to find if I could get people. I wish that part was a little smoother. From the time I submitted the claim, it was close to a week when they sent a technician out. It was just my pool, but if it was something I really needed, I'd be really concerned. And if it was during the summer, I would have been livid. They sent out a guy from Chino, which is far away from me and he didn’t know how to fix my pool. He's cool nonetheless. And the other person that came out was awesome. I just wish there were more local pool guys that I could call and get things going quicker. I don’t expect issues to happen but it's nice to have a home warranty. The technicians were limited but overall, the service was still satisfactory and I was happy with it.

It has been almost a year that I've been using America's 1st Choice Home Club. I went with them because of the price and the reason I’m with them is because every home warranty company that you go with, you have to wait 30 days before it becomes active. And since I'm going with them another year, I don't have to wait 30 days. I've had a mixed experience with my claims. They refused to pay for a few things that I thought should be paid for, like plumbing issues and blockages they pay for. They didn't pay for a blockage because they had covered one previously. Other than that, the customer service is okay. The clog backed up and they're supposed to come out today.

I decided to go with AFC Home Club based on the reviews. Right now, I’m looking to get another warranty for my other home. If their price is competitive and they would give me a break for two homes, I’m interested in that because they’re very pleasant. They're also easy to deal with. The technician they sent out for a garage door opener claim was competent and very nice. He did the repair in one day and I was pleased. My only comment was that it was a 20 year old garage door opener and yet they replaced the part. That was kind of dumb. I didn’t think it was a very cost effective way to take care of a garage door opener. They should have replaced it. In an inexpensive item, that would have been more cost-effective. But they took care of it for the short term and other than that, it was an easy process. They were nice, efficient and timely as well.

I called AFC for a plumbing for our toilet and they said they were gonna call a technician that takes two days or 24 hours. It took them two weeks to get finished. Everything with them, it takes them forever. Also, the first tech they sent out for my toilet didn't snake it out and I told him I wanted him to do that. Then, he said a lie. Since then, I went on and paid somebody else to come on and snake it out. I have been having no problems since. So, I spent $160, and I shouldn't have spent that $60.

One claim is bad, but I've had this with two claims. I've got an electrical problem and I don’t even wanna call AFC, I'm thinking about just calling my electrician. I would rather spend $300 for him to come out than to go through this crap with AFC that it takes two days for them to get back to me. If I call them on a Monday, that means they don't do anything until Wednesday. And then, it still takes another two days for the technician to call me.

The technician said if I called them directly, I could have called them and set it up and they could have been out here the next day. When I asked AFC to give me the list of their merchants that they use, so I can call them directly and set it up, they told me that I can set it up and have them come out and all I gotta do is have the technician talk to them. I got a problem happening and they said I can call somebody and get them to come out. I only wanna pay out of my pocket one time. And most merchants came out to my house were not charging $60, it's $100. So now, I gotta pay $40. I'm going back to the company that I have before. I don't know why I ever chose to go away from them. I paid AFC $60 for 18 months and they told me that I don't have to pay any more until January. But I can't wait to get rid of them. All the military people that I recommended to AFC are saying the same thing.

I had a home warranty at first but I didn't like it. I got jerked around a lot so I was looking for something better and going with America's First Choice Home Club was kind of a fluke. I had read on it and I liked what I read so I decided to give them a try and they turned out to be pretty good. At first, I had a problem with one claim that I submitted but they resolved it somewhat.

I had a dryer go out on me and after I called AFC, the guy that they sent out told me that he hasn't been with America's Choice long and he gave me this bogus reason why he couldn't get the job fixed. He told me my dryer was too old and that AFC wasn't gonna cover it. He even called in to someone and told him that the dryer was too old. AFC would replace it if they had to but they were gonna replace it with the value that they think it has. That dryer cost me $1,100 and they wanted to give me $350. They would be able to get the same color for $350 but they would not be able to replace the dryer with the same style.

At that point, I had already paid the $60 fee. I called in and told AFC that I wasn't satisfied with what he told me. Back then, the dryer was right at about four years old. How were they gonna tell me it was too old? When I bought the house, all of my appliances were new. But they are eventually gonna get older and I was trying to figure out if I'm gonna be able to make a claim on them. If something happens to them, would I be told that they're too old? The lady who was here explained to me that she didn't know why the technician had said that.

After about three days of dealing with it, someone finally called me back. My wife and I talked then it was decided to have somebody else out to look at the dryer. I asked AFC if I would have to pay the $60 call-up fee again and they told me no. They said they would get someone out here to us but I didn't wanna run the risk of that same guy coming to my house. I really didn't want him back at my house. I asked if it would be covered if I got someone to fix the dryer. AFC said that as long as they were qualified technicians, it would be covered. I called someone out and they fixed the dryer. I submitted that receipt to America's First Choice and they took care of it with no questions. The second lady I spoke to was really professional about it. She apologized about what happened and they got it taken care of.

When I had issues with my washer, I called AFC to see if they could come out and fix it, and the representative took the time with me. She walked me through some things to see if we could get it working without having to send someone out. Well, the steps that she went through fixed the washer and it has been fine since then. That was about five months ago. I really had an enjoyable experience with America's First Choice. I love the payment plan too. You pay for 18 months then you wouldn't have to pay for the other 18 months. You can't beat that.

They also let me choose my own repair people and I can call somebody local that I have a relationship with and use them as long as they're certified. I've used AFC one time for something minor and I filed the claim online. My stuff always seems to break on the weekends and they got back to me on Monday. The turnaround time for someone to respond with a date that they're coming out was fairly quick. Then, the contractor did good quality of work. For the limited experience that I've had, AFC seemed to be good so far.

I purchased their top level home warranty services with full payment. Then I forgot that I even bought their warranty. In September my water heater broke down which was an emergency. I called Home Depot and their service technician inspected the water heater and told us to salvage it. We bought a new one from HD and their certified tech guy replace the heater for us. In December I realized that I have a home warranty and filed a claim. Guess what, this company decline to honor the claim with a minor excuse of technicality for not filing claim with them before replacing it with HD.

Then our dishwasher went bad which came with the house we bought. This company is asking for proof of purchase of dishwasher and obviously no homeowner has that when it came with a house. So... they decline to honor the claim again. After researching online about this company, I realize that this company find any excuses to decline claim. Stay out of buying anything from America's 1st Choice Home Club.

We had home warranty programs in our various houses in various states for two decades. We usually went with American Home Shield before but they changed some of their fine print and some of what they covered so we looked elsewhere. We've been with AFC for two years. Their coverage seemed to be pretty good and they were a little bit less expensive. We can handle some higher deductibles. I also looked up the ratings in Better Business Bureau on all of the providers and AFC seemed to do better.

We've had one claim and my husband took care of that. The one problem that we had was with the appliance repair company that AFC was gonna hook us up with, First Appliance. They no longer worked with AFC and they declined to provide service. But once my husband called AFC back and explained the situation, we got another service and they were out within 24 hours. It went very smoothly then. We were a little surprised but it ended up fine. But I would give it a B minus on that one just because we had that glitch getting started. By the time the whole thing got resolved, we were about five days in.

That aside, the contractor was great and the situation couldn't have gone better. The guy knew exactly what he was looking at. He made the fix right then and there. We've been through the order-parts thing at our other house with American Home Shield. And a couple of them, it took weeks because they'd get a part in but it wouldn't work. And then the contractor would get another part in but it wouldn't work again. Our washing machine went through four repairs. I talked to the guy who was doing the work and told him that it would be less expensive to just replace the washing machine. He agreed but said that was not the way it worked.

A home warranty is something that we have had in the past. We had new appliances with limited warranties on them and we decided to go ahead and get separate warranties. Unfortunately, we spent an awful lot of money getting a three-year warranty, and when something did go wrong, America’s First Choice couldn't stand by it. For a long time, we had incremented problems with the transmissions of our washing machine and we lost an awful lot of money in torn clothes, sheets and towels. We had somebody come out several times and they identified the problem. As the techs were about to fix it, America’s First Choice's supervisor was told that it would be better to replace it. The supervisor said that instead of replacing it, they would give us 174 which was pennies on the dollars for that appliance. They said they would give 183 which was still pennies on the dollars for that machine.

I asked how we would go about getting that 174 and they said that they couldn’t give it to me until after I purchase the machine. I said that we couldn’t purchase the machine until after we canceled them and that was the end of that. He said he was the supervisor, and that it was awful and that home protection is for everybody. So, I said that it was not and it was useless. Even after two years had gone by and we have two houses under the warranty, we realized that we probably had enough money to replace the appliance that they wouldn't repair, and then some. So, we decided the money would be put to better use and we're in the process of shopping around. We didn't have a very good experience and we're getting ready to cancel.

I originally looked at another warranty company but I ended up speaking to one of the salesmen at America's 1st. I’m a pretty good judge of character even on the phone. I’m an attorney so I speak to clients all the time and a lot of people call me with claims. I felt like the other one was just kind of a business, who I spoke with but this guy was a little more candid and took the time to answer all of my questions. There were a lot of things he did to help me make a decision.

I had something go wrong with the wall oven just recently. They told me I could pick whoever contractor I wanted or they would send someone out. I ended up using their person because the people in this area don’t do warranty work. I knew they had somebody who had a good reputation for appliance repair that I have heard of before and it was a good experience. They were out within a few days. They fixed it and it’s working now. I submitted a claim with America’s First Choice for our garage door and at first, I was a little disappointed because I couldn’t get a definite answer from them on who was going to come. I didn’t know their procedure to call somebody to come out to the client’s house. So, when they sent me a confirmation that they had somebody take my claim, I called them. It was already the third person, and by the third time, I called the vendor. We made an appointment, and lo and behold, they were not somebody that AFC was gonna use or somebody that decided not to do third-party payment. So, I was left at the house waiting for somebody on that day that I made the appointment. Neither AFC nor the vendor called and told me that nobody is coming. So, I was disappointed with that.

Also, I would’ve liked somebody to explain to me how the procedure was gonna work. If I need to select the vendor that's gonna come out and do my work, then AFC should say, “You have that option to do it, and go out, and look for it.” I’ve been in this house for 13 years, and I can think of a lot of vendors to come and do my work. AFC made me wait for two weeks before I finally got the repair done. I wish there was some kind of feedback where the process of my claim was. But other than that, once I got the person that was going to come and the confirmation, then everything went smoothly. I got a brand-new garage door opener.

I've been with AFC since this summer. I switched over because their premiums were a little lower than American Home Shield, which I was with for over 12 years. I have five policies with AFC. I’ve covered all of my daughters’ houses and my mom’s house. So, I’ve put a lot of trust into AFC now that I’ve switched over from AHS. I need to establish some kind of relationship with them not because I use the warranty all the time, but things do come up, and I wanna be able to know what their procedure is.

I’m writing to express my extreme frustration and dismay with America’s 1st Choice (AFC) home warranty. I purchased the premiere “Platinum” warranty, which is supposed to offer the most extensive and comprehensive coverage available, only to find that when we needed it, they offer practically no assistance on major repairs and replacements.

The Platinum plan includes coverage for Water Heaters, as do their other plans. But when our water heater failed and needed to be replaced, AFC offered to only cover $250 of the nearly $1,400 total cost for the replacement. They cited our “hard water” as the reason they would only offer $250, despite language in the plan indicating “CRAST will pay up to $1,000.00 per Membership Terms."

I can understand offering a lower amount if the damage had been found to be the result of negligence or misuse on our part, but there was no such determination. This was normal wear and tear and ought to have been covered up to the full $1,000 amount. I have friends and their water heaters failed but were covered by different home warranty providers (Old Republic Home Warranty and American Home Shield) they covered the full cost of the replacement except for the cost of the new fittings required for the new appliance. They live in this area as well. I naturally assumed that AFC’s premiere and most expensive plan would offer similar coverage. I feel the advertisement and description of this “Platinum” plan is misleading at best and intentionally misrepresented at worst. AFC should be held accountable for misrepresenting the coverage offered in their warranty plans.

And when I got a sales call from AFC and they gave me the offer and the rates, I thought, “Okay, let me change it.” Submitting a claim with AFC is smooth. Whenever I have an issue, they have a form to fill out online. I can do that and I get a call within a day. However, on their online site, they don’t have any login. I have to remember my account number. I also have to fill all the information from scratch, which definitely delays the process. So, if they could have made a login kind of stuff to put any claims, that would definitely be better definitely.

Also, another thing is we don't like that they don’t have electrical warranty covered. I got a good assistance from them but I’ve been telling them that one of my electrical outlets is not working and when I called them, they said, “No, it’s not covered.” So, that was a little bit let down. Other than those, the technicians I dealt with were good. I didn’t have any problems with them. I have taken two offers from them. One was for my pool and one was for my microwave, and both times, the quality of work was very good.

They have now America's 1st Choice Home Club and I call on the phone when submitting the claim. The representatives and contractors were very good. However, I do think America's 1st Choice have to dispel a little bit more out of what's really covered. Sometimes people are under the assumption that things are covered and they're really not. If the dryer is more than 10 years old, and either they can't be fixed or it's too expensive to fix, they say we have to buy a new one and they'll give us $100. You can't get a dryer for $100. And I don't think you really need an insurance plan for a new piece of appliance. It's for the older pieces. But overall, the experience with them was okay. They come in a pinch and I use them because heating, air conditioner and electrical are important for my parents.

I'm giving AHC 1 star only because I don't have to wait on the phone for an hour to be helped. Otherwise 0 stars for service. I bought my plan in May, 2018. I had my first service request over a month ago due to our clothes washer not working. The first technician never called. I finally called them and they had no idea who AHC was, or about any appointment with me. The second service guy came and told us that the dial on the washer had no power and that he would have to email AHC to approve him fixing the dial before he could determine a diagnosis. I asked technician if he could call AHC to get approval and he said no he had already emailed them.

2 day go by so I call AHC. They tell me technician has not emailed them, but they will call him and call me back. AHC calls back and tells me that technician tell them there is too much wrong that fixing would cost $750. AHC won't fix and offers $250 to buy a new one, then agent proceeds to tell my husband that he is sure the unit cost us $100. What!!! We are told that we can have someone come check our washer and if diagnosis is different they will give back our service fee of $75 and pay for part of the new service fee. We were lucky to have gotten someone over the same day to check the washer out. To our surprise the technician said there was nothing wrong with the dial. And guess what, different diagnosis than their technician.

I was told yesterday that my case was under review and they would call me today. No call, I called them, now they tell me still under review and they will call me tomorrow. Have been without a washer now for over a month. Everything in our home is 5 years, or older and I am sure if I have anything else break it will be the same story. So sorry I picked this company. Will write in to let everyone know how this ends. I have American Home Shield at other properties and much better outcomes. They replace at market value. They also will buy a unit for you, or send you a check to buy something of your choice. Will not be transferring those properties to AHC. What a joke.

I was doing research when I wanted to terminate the original policy that we had, and found America's First Choice. I called and talked to them and just liked what I heard. I also have spoken with contractors who do work for them and they said it was the best home warranty plan. Because our property came with several of its own appliances and some of our appliances were five years old, we thought it would be a good idea.

When I had a claim I made the initial phone call and they let me know that they would be contacting someone who would turn around and then contact me. It took a little bit longer than I liked but I did like who they sent out. It ended up being more complicated than they thought. So it took a while but it was just because they had to order parts. Our charge was $60 for each visit and we like the people that they sent out. We had contractor come out twice and they did good both times. They were knowledgeable and honest. And we just renewed our warranty.

I shopped around and looked at all the options I had, and America's 1st Choice offered the most reasonable price. I have no problem with the submission of the claim but we’ve had some bad vendors which they’ve corrected very quickly. I needed plumbers, and some other people that came here were a mess. And that’s not Choice’s fault. That was the vendor’s fault. So, beyond that, everything was fine. They’ve done everything they said they were gonna do. They’re very courteous and responsive, and they follow up.

The coverage could be a little better. Things are very expensive today, and it’s hard to offer something that’s reasonable in the marketplace with enough coverage. That’s somewhere where they’re probably doing the best they can with what they have. I’ve had some good experience with America’s 1st Choice and I’m satisfied. Definitely, consider them.

I wasn’t happy with the first claim that I had with AFC Home Club, which came with the one year of coverage when I bought the condo. It was for the air conditioner and they weren’t very efficient or user-friendly. The rep was very nice but the tech who came out just said it was working. The second one was about the heater control on my water heater. It died and I lost heat and it was during the winter months. I had to get some hot water going and I wasn’t happy with the guy that came in at all because he pulled out a heater gauge and proceeded to put it on. I said it looked like it was used and he said it was not and it just had been in his truck. So, I let him and sure enough, by a couple of days later, it wasn’t working. I had to have a new one shipped to my house. Then he came back and I don’t think he was very happy about it. It took two tries but I got it fixed.

That was a couple of years ago and since then, I've been very happy. I call when submitting claims and if it becomes a hassle, I would turn to my computer. I’ve had a couple of claims and they came and fixed. One time, my dryer was plucking around. It sounded like it was gonna break any minute and the tech came in and he was like Johnny-on-the spot. He fixed it right on that visit. It was all very nice. If it's something really nasty, I would call AFC and say to not use the contractor anymore. Also, I just received my $200 check for my microwave that went down. I’m very happy compared to the other company I was with. The service has been great and I hope it continues.

AFC told us that they would send us a "Good Will" check for $400 as our old heater was too old to fix. The bill was submitted on Aug. 25 and we are still waiting (Oct 29) for a check. Now, tell me why we purchase a home warranty program on our home if you are not going to replace what is broken!!! That is why I purchased your plan. Don't let their kindness fool you. I spoke to Tyler before deciding to sign up with AFC and was very hesitant about choosing a home warranty program so I asked a ton of questions. Basically, he ended up lying to me from the beginning to make everything sound good. I was told that there was a 30 day waiting period after the contract started before I could submit a work order, that was fine. But he told me that I could waive the 30 day waiting period if I submitted my home inspection report but it wasn't required. So I decided to not send the home warranty inspection and they never asked me for it until the first time I tried to submit a work order. I was told that I was required to submit the home inspection report so I did. They did not cover the first issue that I had because it was "pre-existing".

Then the second order I submitted, they informed me that they had another rule which was that the second 30 days after the 30 day waiting period they only covered up to $150 for whatever was wrong regardless if it was pre-existing or not. So basically I am getting screwed up both issues and they were paid $600 up front. I have no idea what I am paying them for but I will not continue to use this company after my year is up. When I emailed Tyler to confront him about all of the lies his response was, "To be honest, that is how it was explained to me at the time and I am just now finding out that I was misinformed and am figuring out a better way to deliver the information to future customers." Save your money.

    Alyssa,

I have reviewed your case and Tyler will be reaching out to you to apologize for his confusion. I am unsure why the confusion occurred but once the Inspection is sent in the waiting period is waived. The $150.00 limit only applies to your first 30 active days with us. You purchased 8/3/2018, this means this was up 9/3 so your normal limits apply at this point. I have notated the account.

Regarding the pre-existing issue, the home inspection listed it as faulty. Unfortunately, we did not cover the home at this time, we were purchased after, therefore we cannot assist with items which failed before we cover the home.

AFC has a technician assigned and a text with his contact information was sent to you on 10/8. If you wish to speak with me directly concerning this I would be happy to. Kristin 855-613-4555 ext 4.

The reps are generally courteous and they've been able to answer all of our questions whenever we call. The technicians we’ve had out here have been great. The last technician that we had was knowledgeable. Our toilet was backed up and he came out, snaked it for us, and gave us some things to look out for. He was really helpful. I just experienced an awful time with AFC Home Warranty. Not only did they deny my claim (under their own terms and conclusions) I am beyond words with the word honest & fair with this company. They read between the lines on related issues and find any reason to deny the claim. Even with a follow up call from a "certified, licensed, bonded" repair company they still drew their own conclusions. They also never did mail my "warranty kit" until I threatened them today with legal action. I got it within one hour. Wow how convenient.

Now that I am over my 30 day policy review period, there is question I am stuck with penalties to cancel this contract. I found them to be very shady, very untruthful, very disrespectful and surely not the least bit helpful. I am done with extended warranty policies. My advice is stick ONLY to the stores you purchase from and their own affiliates. Do not let these other fly by night companies take advantage of you. However since then I have had nothing but problems. Scope of what they covered is extremely limited and you won't find this out until after weeks of falling up with them because their system doesn't submit to the repair company. I have given up hours and hours calling vendors to find out they never received request from AFC. I have waited days and weeks for follow up only to be told they don't cover water heaters or air conditioning. I received confirmation emails that don't match with voice messages. Orders sent to appliance tech companies when it was a plumbing repairs. Bottom line, the warranty is worthless and a ton of my time has been wasted babysitting them and their process.

We had a home warranty from another company years ago on a home we bought. It was an old home and it had an in-ground pool. That particular policy covered the pool and about six weeks into it, the pool pump went out. That would have cost $550 to fix but I paid 50 bucks. Then about nine months into the ordeal, something shorted in the breaker panel on the wall. Half of it went out and the wall was so hot when I put my hand on it. That was Sheetrock, so I was afraid my house was on fire. The repair cost almost 600 bucks and it cost me 50 bucks. So, a home warranty will pay for itself.

Then we bought this house last year. It was built in '68 and has been completely remodeled. But you can put a silk jacket on a pig and it is still a pig. So, not to take a chance, we decided to buy a home warranty policy. I went on Google, typed in "Best Home Warranty Company," and America's First Choice Home Club came out on top of the list, so they won the prize.

Submitting a claim with them was a little more difficult than I expected and it was more difficult than with the other company we had before. But the guy that they recommended and who was here knew what to do. They wanted him to tear into whatever he had to tear into and find the problem, then call them and get their approval to fix it before he did anything. And it was a simple capacitor. When you take the lid off, there it is. So I told him that we ain’t had air in two days and we were dying. I told him to fix the thing and if AFC Home Club didn't pay him, I would. So he went on and fixed it.

His work was awesome and top-notch. When he was here, he looked at the AC, said he knew what it was, and checked on it. Then he told me to flip the switch. When I did, it came on. I noticed then that he had the bad part in his hand and the new part was already on the AC. He also showed me where it got hot and swelled up. I just had to replace the fan blade on the AC the other day because the fan blade started making a racket.

After fixing the tech fixed the AC, I gave him the 800 number and I told him that he knew more what to tell AFC than I did. So he called and told them what he did. And he gave them my customer number or whatever they needed to verify it was me. When he got through, AFC's rep asked him if I would verify that the service had been done. So I took the phone and she asked me if the AC was working or not. I told that it was freezing to death and she said that was great. In the end, they paid him, so everybody was happy.

But when AFC was about to pay the claim, the tech handed me the phone and said that AFC's rep wanted to tell me something. She said that they never received a statement showing that I had a preventative maintenance done on this unit. I told her that’d be because I hadn’t had one done. But AFC's rep told me that they were gonna pay my claim but they won’t pay another one on this unit till I got the bill for the preventative maintenance sent to them. I told her I never knew anything about that and she said that it was in page three of the manual that they sent me. But I asked her to name two people out of all of their customers that ever read the damn manual. The truth was, ours was still in the big white envelope at the time and it never has been opened.

In the end, I still had their tech come out and when he put that fan blade on, I had him go ahead and do the 29 or 30-point check or whatever they wanted and had it written up. I gotta scan it and send it to them though. Other than that, AFC' s tech was too far from me and we’ve got a technician within three or four miles where I live. And at the time. he said he went all over the place and that it was gonna be the day after tomorrow at least before he could get loose and look at our unit. That was if everything went right up there as he was working on an industrial something. But I told him we needed the air the day before we talked and we couldn't wait. So I called somebody else. However, I had to use who AFC told me to use so I still called the tech they recommended and had him work on my claim.

All in all, AFC Home Club is more apprehensive about when you call in with a claim. But when I filed a claim with the other company we had, there was no problem. They simply said that they'd call somebody and call me right back to give the information when the techs were gonna be there. They were far more helpful than AFC's reps. I renewed my policy with AFC for another year, but I won’t renew it again because the personal service could be a lot better. I’m not saying that I’m mad at them, but I’m not happy with them.

I am extremely disgusted at the deceptive sales practices and blatant misrepresentation of the services offered by American’s First Choice Home Club, the home warranty company. Their sales tactic is a simple bait and switch hanging on small print disclaimers sent after you sign up. Their approach to customer service is simply to deny service. Be certain they take your policy and service call fees and then hide behind – “it’s not covered” when you call for service. My problem centers on first on American’s First Choice Home Club’s failure to cover two home appliances – a built-in microwave and oven. And second, charges for two diagnostic service calls when company representatives knew before sending a repair person they would not cover the appliances.

First, I had to called twice just to get them to address problems with a built-in oven and microwave – both appliances were turning off intermittently. For the oven, they sent an electrician who said the problem was not electrical. That was a $60 fee. Then American’s First Choice Home Club representatives sent an appliance technician, another $60, who claimed the problem is a control board. So, after $120 out-of-pocket company representatives deemed the appliances are not covered. They claim there is no coverage because of depreciation. Yet, they wrote a policy on a 14-year-old house with original appliances and never once mentioned while selling the plan that my appliances would not be covered. Straight - bait and switch.

How could they be American’s First Choice Home Club. They are American’s NO Choice Home Club. Their coverage and customer service are so far below coverage provided by other home warranty companies, I have come to learn. They sold me outright a policy that is worth absolutely nothing as all appliances in my house are 14 years old, the same age as the house. After selling the policy they did nothing in the way of assessing what was and wasn’t covered in an effort to fully inform the policyholder. This is another failure of full disclosure on their part and a continuation of the bait and switch.

American’s First Choice Home Club could instruct their sales team to fully explain what is covered and to make it clear that the potential policyholder must submit in writing a full accounting of the home’s items and ages within 15 day of policy enactment. You should then follow up that conversation with an email containing explicit instructions and a form to be completed. That should then be followed with another email explaining to the policyholder what is covered in the house and at what level. But that would require American’s First Choice Home Club to operative above board, and in the customer’s best interest. I am requesting an immediate refund of my ‘entire membership fee’ and reimbursement for the $120 in unnecessary service charges as you never planned to cover them anyway. I would also like it known that I consider this an all-time low in deceptive sales tactics and misrepresentation of customer service.

I initially had another home warranty company and needed to change. I went online and compared different places. AFC seemed to cover more than what some of the other places covered and some places were much higher than what their prices were. They seemed to be one of the better companies that I've found. I decided to go with AFC and so far, I've submitted two claims to them. I wasn't pleased with the first claim because I had to pay most of it. But the last claim turned out pretty good. All of their contractors have been very professional and they knew what they were doing.

When my garbage disposal wasn’t working right, the guy who came out to repair it found out that the garbage disposal that I had in there was not the right size. Also, the piping under the sink was not correctly put in initially by the builders. So, AFC didn’t pay. I had to have that changed for him to change the garbage disposal, so I had to pay that even though I didn’t know anything about it and I wasn’t aware of it. I ended up having to pay a large portion to have that repaired, which cost me a few hundred dollars that I didn’t have.

I’ve had two claims with America's First Choice and they’ve been wonderful and easy to work with. However, there's not enough people to do the work so they’re always slammed. Finding better techs in Massachusetts is next to impossible because if we have anything wrong, nobody ever returns our phone call. But America's First Choice has been flexible when I have a little bit of a problem and if I could find somebody that could do it quicker than they could then I could use my own person, pay for it and they would reimburse me. It's been very smooth so far and they are amazing.

I do not recommend AFC to anyone who is expecting responsible home warranty service. I was shopping for home warranty this year in July. I checked online and found a article saying AFC is #1 ranking home warranty, so I called AFC right away. The sales was very nice and the package price was very reasonable. I asked the sales why AFC has many bad reviews, he could not answer me and asked the sales manager to talk to me. The sales manager told me that people always write bad reviews to threat AFC to provide service that is not covered in their plan. I thought that answer was pretty acceptable. So I purchased The Gold plan with add on ice maker for 3 years and paid full price in 30 days. The sales explained what is covered in the plan and told me the 1st 30 days is waiting period, no service will be covered. I totally understood that.

Today is 60th day after I purchased the warranty. My water heater is broken and no hot water for kids to take a shower. My husband called AFC and they said they only cover $150. Then I called AFC service again and asked why is not $60 co-pay as sales told me. The receptionist asked me why I don't read the policy they send to me and it stated the 2nd month only cover $150. I said the sales did not mention anything about the 2nd month coverage. Such important information, AFC sales should let me know before I have made payment. I asked to talk to a manager, then she hang up my phone. I called back, there was a gentleman answered and said same thing.

Finally, the service manager, Jason, picked up the phone and I explained the situation. He sounds very careless and said: "It is your responsibility to read the policy, we recommend you to read it after you receive it." I told him No one have ever told or recommended me to finish reading all policies in 30 days and no one informed me there are very important coverage details I have to review immediately after I receive the policy. I believe such important information sales should let me know in the beginning. I requested AFC to pull out the conversation recording that I had with sales. Then Jason said it does not matter if they recommended me to read or not, it is still my responsibility to find out the coverage details. The passive aggressive attitude from AFC make me feel very helpless. AFC does not care of customers. They are a real scam. I have already send letter to cancel my membership. Can not trust this company anymore.

There are a few things that you should consider before signing up with this company as it will most likely give you more headaches compared to the small savings you might get with them. I decided to change warranty companies and AFC was the first one that caught my attention. Looked like they had the coverage I was looking for and the price was reasonable. Once you apply online expect a call from their account manager in my case Mike within minutes. He will do his job and sound like this is actually a good solid warranty program.

Here are the list of problems I had that might help you make your decision: 1- Takes at least 8-10 minutes every time you try to call them either to get clarification or to place a service request. It got very frustrating when you really want to get things going but every time you call you have to wait... 2- First time I needed them they said the service was not covered so they wouldn’t even send someone to the house to check what was wrong. My tenant called placing a request to have the AC checked saying that there was something wrong with the Dampers.

AFC called me saying that I had to contact a service company because Dampeners were not covered. I thought it was very strange as we don’t know if the problem was only the dampeners but still she insisted that they wouldn’t even send a service company to check. I clearly stated that I would cover for any cost related to non covered services that I just needed them to send someone to check the AC but got another big NO as an answer. I contacted a service company myself and found out that a few things were not functioning properly so again – why they couldn’t at least send someone there to check? Tried to contact them again – another long wait but at this time I am so frustrated that I am cancelling the contract and paying the service out of pocket. 3- Ah – you have to mail a letter to them to have your service cancelled. Yes – mail not email or call or request online. Don’t make the same mistake. You wont be saving money.

Then the tech comes and I pay 60 then cause the appliance is older AFC will only pay part. I still have to pay more. One they did fix a leak. I did only pay 60. A couple of days ago for my dishwasher. They called me and actually told me I have to call KitchenAid and take care of it myself.

The dryer I had to get fixed I had to call the company not them. The water leak I had to call. Thought it was their job to call. They are a scam. I was happy when I started with them. Thought it would put my mind to rest about my appliances but no more. Stressful now than ever. So I guess I am not getting my dishwasher fixed. I called KitchenAid. They said to have AFC call them but AFC says to call KitchenAid. NEVER USE THE COMPANY. THEY ARE A SCAM. Once contract over changing to another asap. I feel they should give me my money back. I was looking for a home warranty and America’s 1st Choice's price was better than American Home Shield. Plus they covered more. I usually call to try to get the claim done as fast as possible but it still takes four days before someone even calls back to make it happen. So the whole process can happen a whole lot faster. It takes longer than when I had AHS. AHS had a quick turnaround where they assigned somebody and then that person was going out with you to work much quicker, especially when you’re talking about plumbing issues.

I have three houses with America’s 1st Choice. I made the mistake of buying a three-year plan and I’m stuck with them for a while. I bought the package that’s supposed to cover everything, but when I had someone come for my recent request, they don’t cover stoppages and I had to take care of that myself. I had just gotten off the phone with them and they said I could add that to my plan. If I had known that in the first place, then I would’ve asked for the plan and paid $600.

    Mr. Duckworth,
I apologize for any inconvenience the plumbing stoppage may have caused you. We have 4 tiers of plans and stoppages is not a common occurrence in every home, just as every home does not have a pool. For these concerns we have additional options that can be added on. These are listed on your membership guidelines and on our website so that you may view and add at your leisure.
After review of the case, it looks like the delay occurred due to inaccurate information on the home. I believe you stated the home was on septic and your tenant stated it was not, therefore it delayed our assigning time. The normal time for assigning technicians for emergency repairs is less than 24 hours on week days.

Since you are a valued member I would be happy to offer a $200.00 goodwill credit for this repair.

My house came with a lot of appliances and a one-year warranty. The warranty had run out and I didn’t want to take any risk with it since the appliances are new but not high-end. I don’t like to be caught off-guard with anything, so it’s great to have America's 1st Choice warranty if something is unexpected. I’ve used it twice now and both were unexpected because they weren’t typical coverages. The first claim was for an ice maker which was not working. I called and I didn’t have ice maker coverage, but they worked with me and gave me a little something if they added it on for the one time. It was really nice of them to do that. It was the fridge that was broken and it was not much more than it was gonna cost but it all worked out.

The second time I used America's 1st Choice was for a garbage disposal of which I still have not gotten my check and that should happen soon. My garbage disposal started to leak and it was an unexpected coverage because they didn’t send somebody out. The reps explained that it costs them more to get somebody out than to replace it. Since garbage disposals are easy enough for most people to install by themselves, they would rather reimburse the amount for the unit itself. So, both claims went as smooth as it possibly could have.

I’ve had a home warranty since 1989 but American Home Shield is a very different company now from when I joined them and I was disgusted. The last time I had them do anything for me, it was a deplorable mess and they didn’t offer any kind of restitution or real help. I found another warranty company and got AFC Home Club. The people on the telephone were very courteous. The plumbers who came out to take care of the problem were both sharp, clean and had nice uniforms. They were very efficient and I’d be happy to have them back in the house any time.

The problem that I had was that I called AFC on a Saturday morning and they got a 48-hour window to get a technician and could not find a plumber for me until Monday. I’ve got a pipe leaking into our downstairs bathroom, which by the time the restoration people from my insurance company got there, they got to replace one and a half rooms of carpeting and a door that warped. The tile pulled away from the wall in the bathroom and mildewed a wood stand that we have in there. We had significantly more damage since they didn’t get to that leak in a hurry. It also cost me more money because of that and the time delay was very annoying for me and my wife.

A company like AFC should have emergency service no matter what day or time of day it is. They should be able to call somebody and ask them if they’re coming out. Even if it costs me more on the service fee, I’d be willing to pay that rather than watch my ceiling leak for two more days and having to run downstairs every six hours to empty a bucket. Still, they did everything according to their contract and they put up with me when I got irate about it, which was unusually good as most will just hang up on me. I’m staying with them because of the way the people treated me. They seemed interested in me and they were understanding so I’m good with them. I’m happy enough to recommend them.

It took a little bit of time to hear back, but they were trying to fulfill the claim and no workers were in our area. So, they contacted a third party and scheduled the appointment. We had to pay more than the $60 fee, but we’re waiting on the check for a reimbursement of everything except for the $60. The tech knew what he was doing and fixed it quickly. In half an hour total, he was in and out. Now the dishwasher is working great.

They take a while to get a hold of sometimes and I was on hold for about 20 minutes the first time. That first time, somebody took a message and I had to call back and follow up a week later when I hadn’t heard from somebody. When I did, I was assisted right away. I took the first available time of the technician and when they came, they were professional and fixed the problem.

I had AHS before but I was peed off by them and so I looked around and found America’s First Choice. We chatted and they sounded good. However, I sent them a letter yesterday to cancel my membership with them. I’ve been a member since 2016 and have used them about three times. In those three times that I’ve had them, I got the distinct impression that when I make a claim, they grill me like, “What the hell are you making a claim for? You’re supposed to just pay us the premium and leave it alone” kind of thing. Also, they would tell me that they're not sure if my claim was covered. I’m a guy that works with contracts all day long, so I had the whole contract in front of me, and I told them it was covered. They then said that they had to give that to their supervisor 'cause they were not sure about that. Eventually, they did the deal and sent the guy out, but it was like pulling teeth.

Another thing was that I got the gold package and they said that I didn’t pay the premiums. I had an argument with the person and we started to break it down and fix anything. But it was so frustrating and so I decided to cancel with America’s First Choice. In the financial sense, it wasn’t a great deal, but it’s not their fault. Too many things were running well and didn’t break down.

    Colin,

We apologize that you felt as if you were grilled when you made the request. I reviewed the call, and everything was professional and by the book. We ask several questions about the unit to insure the tech has parts available when arriving and to make sure we send a brand certified technician. I would be concerned if a company did not ask you a few questions about the equipment to insure the service was top notch.

We are sorry to lose your business and hope that you find someone who better suits your needs.

I've had American Home Shield for years, but they had gotten so expensive. My contract was coming up and I wanted to see what the competition was. I googled and saw America's First Choice Home Club. I've submitted one claim with them and the experience was very good and totally painless. With my previous experience with American Home Shield, I would be on hold for so long it was ridiculous. I talked to an AFC rep and what happened was exactly what he said would happen. Then the technician that did the service call was very nice and he fixed exactly what needed to be fixed.

What really impressed me more than anything was I received a 'thank you' card from him. I was shocked. A lot of times, we would get an email, but he sent a card in the mail. You don't normally get that unless it's somebody that owns their own company, and I think he's the owner of the company. That's the kind of thing that makes you say, "If anybody asks me or needs a plumber or whatever, I will refer him." I told my nephew all about the one that I've signed up for and it's much more reasonably priced. I have a rep that if things aren't going the way I need them to go, I can contact this guy. I didn't have that with American Home Shield.

I looked up the top 10 consumer warranty companies, read several articles and looked at reviews, and America's First Choice Home Club came out on top, price- and service-wise. I then spoke with them and was able to obtain a military discount as well, which made it even more affordable for the family. I was able to get my whole house covered for five hundred bucks. It was a good deal and then when it was time to renew, the gentleman I had spoken to even sent me an email saying, “Hey, it’s time for renewal and I wanna make sure that you continue to get the discount that I promised you the first time for the military. So are you willing to re-up?” That was so nice of him.

AFC's service department opens up at 9:30 Eastern Standard Time and if you call before that, you wind up getting their call center which will then refer you but they won’t take the information and generate a claim for you. By the time I called for an AC claim, they were open and they were very responsive. They emailed me back immediately. But they couldn’t get a technician to me within 24 hours and they called me back. A local technician had installed my new unit and I asked if I could utilize him since we had a 95-degree weather and was still warm. Tom's service call actually cost less than the $60 service call through America’s First Choice and they allowed it. It was wonderful for me. I even got better savings there. Tom was able to take care of the issue at minimal to no cost to us.

AFC's technician also called me and I told him that the issue had already been taken care of. He said that he got a service ticket generated and he wanted to make sure that he followed up. So even their own technicians are local businesses like the gentleman I was able to contract and were wonderful. AFC also called back and asked how it went and if everything was okay. They’re the model for what service should be like and I appreciated the fact that they were willing to work with me. They listened to me and just the fact that they were willing to address the issues I had in such a professional and timely manner is a true bonus to them. I’ve been very pleased with their service and customer care.

The air conditioning unit was not working right again today and I was able to ask Tom. He could get there this morning and the warranty company said yes again. They’re just wonderful. I have a friend who's a realtor and I recommended AFC to her for her future clients because they’re that good. In fact, I will be purchasing us a home warranty for this home because I thought it’s a wonderful way to go. We would be returning home within four years after our duty station here is finished and I would love to keep my home in the best light possible so that when we move back in, we’ll have no problems. Even though all my appliances in this home are new, I still think it’s a good idea because you never know what unforeseen expense there would be. It could wipe out your savings in a heartbeat.

Had an A/C installed in October. Maintenance wasn't performed because it was a NEW installation. The unit went out last month due to fan motor and capacitor. Contacted AFC for coverage and they said they could not cover it because there was no record of "maintenance". The unit was installed less than a year ago and the installer did his proper inspection before leaving. But because he said that he "installed" the unit and didn't do "maintenance" at installation, AFC decided not to cover the unit, even though the installation inspection performed was the same (if not better than) as he would a maintenance inspection.

Semantics is how AFC got out of paying for the repair. Because I was an unsatisfied customer and reported them to the State of Atlanta and BBB, they told me that they would refund what I paid for coverage (only half of what I paid to fix the unit) and said they will cancel my account. Buyer beware! GOOD RIDDANCE! There are plenty of other companies that are WAY better than AFC. Do your research and move on! I DO NOT recommend this company!

They said that I could pick the contractor I wanted and I did. Then the plumbing guy who came out was good. He saw what I needed and it only cost $9 for the part. Since it wasn’t the company that AFC had chosen, the plumber gave me an itemized bill of everything then I sent that in to the company and they sent me back a check for $35, which was over what I paid. So, it was great.

I was given a check for $100 toward the purchase of a new dishwasher that cost me $750 at Home Depot! Six weeks later my 8 years old GE clothes dryer broke. Again the repair person told me that it was old and the part may be hard to find. AFC would not pay for the part or the repair because it was too old. I had to purchase a new clothes dryer for $800. After further review, I decided I didn't want to purchase the home warranty. It took me a week to finally get ahold of someone to cancel. My account rep or the accounting department never called me back after leaving several messages. Huge red flag regarding getting help if you did have to make a claim.

I finally got ahold of someone by going to the sales department like I wanted to receive a quote. They did issue a credit for the $250 deposit I paid on my credit card but then they posted an electronic check to my bank account (which is how I was going to make the monthly payment). I called and told them I needed that amount refunded ASAP and was told it would take 7-10 business day which I refused to accept and asked to speak to a manager. I was then told they would process a check and mail it out today but it could take 7-10 business day to receive. Needless to say I was LIVID. They refused to send the check via overnight delivery and said they had no way of doing that. I'm sorry but anyone can FedEx an envelope. This is very poor customer relations. And if you get a good warranty program, it's going to at least try to ease the burden a little bit. When I submitted a claim with America's 1st Choice Home Club, it was pretty decent. The woman who handled my claim told me that I didn't have microwave protection and that was what I wanted. I said I got their best plan and I even got the ice cube thing on a refrigerator. She said I didn’t have it. And I said it was disappointing because I was paying a lot of money for it. Then she went to her manager.

I have had no claims and they paid a good portion of me getting a brand new one. So, even though there was a miscommunication as to what coverage I had, I did have their best coverage. But for some reason, if a microwave is hanging over a stove, it's not considered built-in. So, that was something I learned but it worked out okay and I'm happy with the results. I would recommend America’s 1st Choice.

We previously had a home warranty. Things come up from time to time, so, we thought it would be good to have one. Plus, it's not really expensive for what you get. We looked up AFC online and they had a high ranking. So, we signed up with them. We recently had the air conditioner fixed and my wife submitted the claim. She said that the reps were very workable and she liked the experience. But I didn’t feel like we had a top-rated AC company. The tech that came didn’t have a digital reader which they pretty much needed to have. We had them come back the second day because they had to go get one. Then, they cleaned the units but we paid for that because that’s not covered in the warranty.

After that, we called that same service out to use them to clean the units again. I told them that I think our AC needed Freon and they said it didn't. They also said that their meter that said so was correct. I get that and that they didn’t wanna put too much Freon, but the temperature was not the same. We should have had a little more diagnostic to try to solve that issue and it didn’t seem like they did their best. They just put their pressure thing on the air conditioner and said that it was fine. But the temperature should be as cool as it was before they came. I knew that the unit needed cleaning and that was what made the temperature go up, but it still didn’t solve the problem. Other than that, AFC was easy to work with, though you might wanna ask who is the person coming and check out their company first.

Thank you for the review, it is true that putting too much freon in a unit can harm it. Ambient temperature can be a factor or an older unit when the cooling isn't efficient as it used to be, but we can let you choose your own tech next time if you wish.

On the stove, he arrived 3 hours late, was rushed and here maybe five minutes doing a cursory review and then said the range was too old and needed to be replaced. AFC refused to honor anything. Then, he was called by them to diagnosis a problem with a four year old refrigerator. He set a time between 11:30 and 1:30. He called at 1:00 to say he’d be here in half an hour. Five minutes later, he called to say he couldn’t get here until between 4 and 7. Never showed up, never called. Initially this home warranty company seemed different. I did a great deal of homework before deciding on one. I called and thought I asked all the important questions. I reviewed the fine print. It seems the salesperson only told me what I wanted to hear to sell a product and now the company doesn't stand behind what it sold me. I purchased the platinum 3 year policy- with promise the company would assist in every step and in every way. I was assured that if the company deemed an appliance not repairable AFC would assist me in getting a comparable product at a reasonable price through avenues they had the average consumer did not. In the saleperson’s own words "AFC wouldn't leave me hanging." I even asked for examples and was told AFC could take the $1500 allotted replacement on a nonrepairable central AC unit and get a good unit that would normally cost me 3-4K.

Since having the policy I have had 2 appliances have issues. I called and placed the request for repair. Both times they didn’t send a repairman - I was told I would have to find my own. Both times they deemed the repair more than they would cover and instead opted to pay out the appliance for replacement but deemed the appliance as outdated and offered approximately 5% of the replacement value - and much less than the value listed on the policy as a payoff value. I was told that the amount listed on the policy was the max amount payoff and with depreciation the company could deem the amount they would actually pay was much less. This wasn’t explained that way when I bought the policy.

I then asked about the promise of assistance in finding a comparable appliance at a decent price - They sent me a link to Lowe's for the appliance that I could have gotten myself with Google search. I called back and I guess in an effort to hush me up they gave me an extra $100 toward the purchase - which ended up being about a tenth of the replacement cost - not counting the fee for installation. The second appliance I called about - they deemed un-repairable before the repairman could even come and allotted $100 toward an appliance that would cost me $1800 to replace.

I understand depreciation. However I was very upfront about the age of appliances the year prior when I purchased the home warranty on a home I was buying and not knowing anything about the appliances in my new home. I wanted the assurance promised by the original salesperson in help with obtaining and repairing. I would not recommend this company and being a widow with limited knowledge of appliance repairs I am very disappointed.

Word of caution when signing up for America’s 1st Choice. In my opinion they have “experts” that evaluate claims searching for loopholes so they don’t have to cover something. The term they use is “transparency”. So in other words IF NOT explicitly identified in the contract they don’t cover it. Make sure if you have an AC unit with 24” fan get that in writing. If not, and it has a 26” fan you are out of luck. Also be very careful about the 60 or 90 days where your policy IS NOT in effect. And, if you purchase a used home, you’d better have all of the maintenance records for any appliance that requires maintenance. They’ve reeled me in twice now so shame on me. Thought for sure I had us covered but the “expert” found a loophole.

Fortunately my latest experience occurred before new policy took effect. So, as long as we get a full refund will move on and look for another company. Narrowing them down as America Home Shield nailed us the first time and hoped America’s 1st Choice would not be a repeat experience. Duuuuh. The truth is they are in business to make a profit so consumers be warned. And, be careful. If I could afford an attorney, I’d get one. Good luck.

I needed another warranty for my home. I went online and found America's First Choice Home Club. And because of their ratings, I chose to use their services. My garbage disposal was broken so I called them and they asked for the bills and other stuff. I submitted those and they approved it. It was a straightforward transaction. The policy for that claim was they can give me some amount of money and I need to use my own plumber to put it back. So I called them for that one and they reimbursed me.

The service has been excellent and the techs they've sent out were great. However, we found out on the last service call that we had that they don't cover anything that's under warranty. They don't cover any of the labor like the water tank, so that wasn't cool and nobody mentioned that when we called about the policy. But all in all, AFC offers good service and we've already recommended three people.

We were part of another home club and they dropped us. We went online, looked for another home club, and found AFC. They were highly rated than the other ones that we looked at so we went with them. Submitting a claim with AFC went reasonably well. However, they have a lot of turnover in personnel, which is a little understandable but at the same time, a little difficult because I never get to talk to the same person twice. And sometimes, in the middle of stuff, somebody changes jobs.

One time, we were dealing with one woman but she was let go and case sat still for a while because the hand off between their people wasn't smooth. In the process of getting that fixed, we got the name of one of the supervisors there and he was very helpful. Also, the technician that we worked with was excellent. He was a bright young man, very down-to-earth, and very practical. One of the best parts of the whole thing was dealing with him. The quality of the work done was very good as well.

When I googled the top 10 home warranty companies, America's First Choice Home Club was the third. I had a different company before then and that other company was terrible. Recently, our dishwasher stopped working so I called AFC Home Club. The first company didn't answer at all, so AFC Home Club put in a different referral and the guy that came out was completely terrible as he basically did nothing. And I paid $60 to his ridiculous company. When we had our inspection report, the guy told me that our drain just needs to be mounted underneath the counter a little bit higher. He was able to fix it for about $1.75. When I called and told AFC Home Club, they said that they were sorry and that on my next claim, it would be on them. They also told me that they will remove the tech from their list. So, even though it was a bad experience with the contractor, it was still a great experience with AFC Home Club.

We had a guy come out one time when our stove flipped off and the breaker kept going on and off and he was awesome and really fast. There was another company that we had before when the water heater was leaking, and they took three days to come out. AFC Home Club is really fast and we appreciate the fee only being $60. The other companies are at $75 or $100. Also, the coverage options that AFC Home Club gives for the price range are better than the other companies we've used. In fact, I decided to renew for the year and transferred the policy to the new buyer.

We've had a couple of claims and submitting them has been fine. We just call it in and then we mail the receipts for documentation.

Since having this warranty, our interactions with the techs have all been good. However, the problem with the stove has been difficult to diagnose and it’s still not corrected. We have to pay out of pocket to continue troubleshooting the problem because AFC said they wouldn’t pay any more on the claim than what we’ve already been allowed. Also, they said the vent hood was not covered so we’re having to pay out of pocket to get it corrected. I’m curious as to why because I really think it’s part of the oven. You gotta exhaust the fumes and that’s still something that should be covered. Another problem was with the washing machine but I think that has been corrected.

The claims rep from America’s First Choice was reading a script that she could refer to but she didn’t know very much about it. She didn't even know what certain things were but that’s okay. We had out microwave repaired because the fan wasn't working and so, the kitchen heated up and whatever I cooked, you could smell it all over, even outside. Then, when we figured it out and when the technician took it off, he said it appeared to be working fine. But I said it wasn’t.

The technician took it down and found out that the homeowners before us had installed it three years ago, and they installed the baffle backwards. So, it was drawing nothing. And you can’t see it since it’s underneath everything. The microwave is not right above the stove like most homes and he had to take the whole unit out. They said that it was going to require another house call. I told them the repairman was standing right in front of it and yet they were going to charge us for another house call which was ridiculous. Also, we still have no air conditioning. It was very frustrating. The first guy came out and he told us it was frozen up outside and inside because it had a heat exchanger. He had to get it cleared first and then he went and did another job and came back again. He was supposed to bring us a Windy unit, but he never did.

AFC refused to pay for it. They said that we had to have the furnace inspected every year and it was in my booklet but we never got one. We went online and they asked us to print it all out, which we did. It’s all in the file and it doesn't say anything about having your furnace and air conditioning system inspected every year. We would have had it inspected every year if we had known that we had to do it. Supposedly, they took it to the highest person there who could make a decision. But I told them we were done with them. It was almost expired anyway and I didn’t even want to talk to them anymore. The homeowners before us chose AFC Home Club, we’ve only been in the house for two years and we just renewed it every year.

The technician has dealt with America’s First Choice before and swore he’d never deal with them again. And mostly every company down here feels that way about home warranty companies. They take forever to get paid, and the last time, it took three months. He said, for instance, our book would say which part attaches to what part. So, he knew that the claims rep was reading that and she knew that you cannot order the part that broke on ours because they're considered not environmentally friendly, so you can't get them anymore. You have to change over a whole lot more than just that one part which includes the Freon. It wouldn't run without it. And the Freon that we would have to have is worth $75 an ounce. If we had the newer part, we would have done only $25 an ounce.

In the end, he wanted nothing to do with them. But as it turns out, they're not going to help us anyway because we didn't have it inspected every year. We're very dissatisfied with it. We’re not gonna get our money’s worth by any means. People should not do it and waste their money. But if they do, they should talk to others who are very happy with it.

Mechanically the Microwave was working, since the technician does not cook in the home he was most likely not 100% sure what you were referring to until further explanation was made. Normally Built in microwaves are a two-man job for the techs as they are dangerous to be removed by one. A lot of companies require this, but it seems he was doing this member a favor by looking at it while he was there.
Per guidelines improper installation is not a covered item as this is the responsibly of the technician which installed this, but we went ahead and covered the full cost to take care of that unit as a goodwill.
As for the HVAC all guidelines are provided upfront to insure the member meets their obligations to have their units covered. The manufacturer states HVAC units should be maintained annually. Please see link.

I bought an old home. I knew things were gonna start breaking and I wanted to have a safety net. So, I went online and started searching for home warranty companies. I went with the one with the best reviews and that was AFC Home Club. I like that with this home warranty, I get to pick the people who come out. AFC's customer service was also better than the service of another home warranty company that I had before. But I don’t think they necessarily knew a lot because when I called, I would always be transferred to somebody else.

When I had an issue with my dryer, I called in to submit my claim and they gave me some number. Then I emailed AFC Home Club the information from the local guy who came out to look at it. Apparently, AFC was gonna cover only so much money for the repair. So, I went out and bought the parts, then I emailed them the receipt and they reimbursed me. But after the tech left, the dryer was completely shut and it needed all these repairs. AFC said they were only gonna give me a credit of $240 or they could repair it. But if they repaired it, they wouldn’t come out again once those parts go. So, I decided to get a new dryer and after I bought it, AFC reimbursed me for what they thought my dryer was worth to begin with. And right now, I’m still waiting for one of my payments.

I was very disappointed with my experience and I'm not gonna keep this company much longer because I don't think these home warranty companies are really out to help homeowners. They're just out to take your money. I would also tell my friends not to get any home warranty company. You pay $77 a month and they don’t cover much of anything so you’re really putting out more out of pocket than anything.

AFC offered to cover the cost of the repair and the member choose not to move forward. No company can offer a brand-new dryer when the unit can be repaired. If the homeowner wishes to get a new unit that is their choice, but we cannot be held responsible for the total cost. We are sending this member and an additional check for $60.00 making the total payment on this $320.00. If there is anything we can do in the future to help please let us know.

America's First Choice Home Club is not the best, but it’s okay. I chose them for the cost yet their claim process is very hard. A lot of times particularly, there are always the hidden little fine prints that they pull out on me when I'm calling in for a service. They say that they cover this but don’t cover another and they do that. Or they say the machine is old, and all that stuff they put in. They don’t respond in time and with the requests, the questions or the calls that we have. The last experience that I had with the claims rep had been horrible, but I just put in a new call today and I still haven’t heard back from them yet. On the other hand, the technicians are good. They work for themselves so they do the work properly and nicely. They care and they’re polite. I’m happy with the work they've done so far.

I wish AFC was a little more sensitive to the customer’s need and that they respond fast enough. There are a few things that can wait to get things to be done, but there is needed attention when the AC is out with a 100 degrees in the house or cold when the heat is out. When the fridge is out, I wish they could respond a little bit faster too. Right now, I have my garage door opener, but that’s not urgent. Still, there are a few things that could be urgent and need urgent attention and I wish they can be a little bit sympathetic. So, I definitely would not recommend them at all. I’ve had experience with other companies and while they were a little bit more expensive than AFC, I would give my recommendation to the other company.

On the 66th day of homeownership (May 20th, 2018) is when my A/C went out. As a senior and permanently disabled person, I rely on others to help me. I thought a home warranty was to help with that. They said I had to have an annual inspection done on the house or their services would not cover me (very vague language). Annual to most of us means 12 months.

The question becomes how can I have an annual inspection if I don't own the house yet? Worse yet, the AFC company was able to get someone to look at my home before I could get one done. Remember, I've only been in the house for 66 days. Their excuse is NO SERVICE TO ANYONE WITHOUT AN ANNUAL INSPECTION, EVEN IF YOU DON'T OWN THE HOUSE OR RESIDE THERE. I had a home inspection done prior to purchasing the house. I sent it to HFC, they said they don't recognize State Certified Home Inspectors. Sometimes, submitting a claim is good and sometimes it's very frustrating. The materials we have are confusing and I wish that our paperwork only has the stuff that is in our coverage. So when I'm in an emergency situation trying to find out if an issue is covered, I'd just be looking through the paperwork and not checking to see what section it would be in. A couple of times, we would ask why something was not covered but then it would just be in a different section.

It needs to be really clear what's covered and what's not and not all in one stapled piece of paperwork. They need to be separated since that's what makes it frustrating. It's frustrating when looking for a header that says plumbing and then realizing that I was looking at the wrong one after calling and talking to people or trying to set stuff up and being told that that's not covered when we could have figured that out in the paperwork. But the technicians have been great. They were able to take care of what we needed to be done. I then did a I did a three-year contract with them because they offered a great deal. However, submitting claims with them hasn't been very good. Once, they sent a company out that really wasn't certified with KitchenAid and the guy didn't seem to know what he was doing. So I called KitchenAid myself, asked them about a part, and they gave me one. I then called the company and told them that they don't have to send the board for repair and gave the part number that will replace it. And the guy didn't even know that. I also found another company in the same town that was KitchenAid certified that AFC Home Club could have called from the first. Also, it took two months for me to get reimbursed so I wasn't happy.

I call to submit claims and the reps just take them. The quality of service of AFC is poor and I'm not impressed. Then, when I started reading the contract, I saw how AFC Home Club put a limit to repairs. They'll only pay $400 max worth of repair if my refrigerator breaks. Whereas, the other company would fix it or replace it. If I could get out of my contract with them, I would right now. But they have it written in, "If you quit, you have to reimburse us for whatever you paid." They also told me that the three-year warranty deal won't cost me but it ended up costing me $375 a year. I wish I would have read the contract more. They are 100% harder than my previous provider. I am dissatisfied with AFC Home Club and I would not recommend them.

    Updated review: June 1, 2018

I had talked to the appliance people since I already had a work order on the dishwasher before I called the Home Warranty to let them know that when I had the dishwasher fixed I could use a fix on the oven, so they ordered the part. (which they MAGICALLY found/produced, whatever) And when the repair guy came out, he brought it and stated that the element burning through was EXTREMELY common, especially on a 25 year old oven.
So I called AFC again. Apparently they understood that the broken part was either the electronic control panel or one of the knobs. Which WOULD be physical damage. But if it was a knob, I'd have gone to the hardware store and replaced the knob. I don't want to pay $60 for the tech to come out and replace a knob I can fix.

Anyway, it is fixed - and the company is covering the repair except the $60 "deductible", but I should be able to rely on them actually making the call to the appliance company or asking more questions rather than straight-out denying my claim. I still will not renew my "warranty" when the year is up, having spent $1,050 for $650 of repairs.

    Original Review: May 23, 2018

First of all, they sell you a 1 year Home Warranty. But then you call within the first 60 days of having the warranty and they only cover $150 off the repair because it's a "pre existing condition". Then when you call with another issue 7 months in, they state that the parts are no longer manufactured for this item, and it's physical damage that doesn't "just happen", so it's not covered. (Heating element broke in my oven while I was baking, and because it snapped, it's physically damaged.) So... I'm $550 into a Home Warranty, $435 additional for a dishwasher pump, and soon to be another $400-500 to replace the stove/oven. In fairness, they will pay $150 for the dishwasher pump and repair guy to come replace it. The "Warranty" is a scam - if they don't want to cover something that breaks, they darned well aren't going to.

Unfortunately, our claim was an emergency and the contractor did not have a technician available right away. I had no choice but to get a random contractor that I looked up online the same day. He came in and did the service for us. And I was fortunate enough to get the reimbursement from AFC Home Club so it's a big plus. Go ahead and give AFC Home Club a try.

American Home Shield wouldn't let me hire my own people even though they had sent people to my house who were so bad. They added double the amount of Freon that they should and inserted a piece in backwards which then burned off and caused major issues. So I wanted to hire my own people and America's First Choice had more flexibility on hiring people that are actually reputable. AFC was very good to work with and I would highly recommend them over American Home Shield. I was so discouraged after them and that was when we just gave up on home warranties altogether. So I'm really glad that I have AFC.

The technician who came out was so good, knowledgeable and efficient. He seemed to really know what he was talking about, better than the other people. And he did the job right. He had to drain half of the Freon out of the system and fixed it. He was here for a few hours and his price was very reasonable, more so than other guys. I paid him and then I got reimbursed. So far, we're off to a good start.

We have a rental property. On one issue, nobody would call me back. This was when my washing machine went out and it took three months, and I went, "This is ridiculous. She was gonna go by one". So, AFC Home Club said that they would have better service and then we had an incident and they were right on top of it. So, I'm really happy with them. The claim process was very simple. Even my tenant gets to call it in as I've got her on our policy. So, she did, they scheduled the appointment, they came out and fixed a leaking water valve. The tech came out after a day. My tenant was very happy, too. I've got a very good deal. You put so much down and for 18 months you'd pay a certain amount. So, it is covering me for three years, and it has saved me quite a bit of money versus the other companies. AFC Home Club worked for me.

Compared to America's First Choice, the other warranty options the realtor gave me seemed to be on the costly side. But when I was filing a claim initially, I asked questions and they were not too familiar with the content of the warranty contract. I even had to explain to them what coverage there was. I also was perplexed because they had told me at one point in time that they were not gonna cover certain types of repairs because of hard water. I was very surprised by that.

When I questioned the representative saying that that's not noted in the contract, she said that they had been getting a lot of claims due to hard water and they were just not covering those anymore. We signed a yearlong contract so I thought that was very odd that they were going to restrict us on a claim coverage, if there was a need for it, based on current observations or behaviors with other clients. So I was a little disappointed with that. But that aside, the process to file a claim was easy and the representatives were very helpful and informative. The technician they sent from Veteran's Plumbing was also very good. The contractor was very responsive and professional.

I heard about America's First Choice Home Club a long time ago and I looked for them on the internet. I signed up after leaving one of those terrible home clubs. America's First Choice Home Club’s price is reasonable and it stays the same forever. The deductible is only $60. And if they come out and they fix something and something goes wrong, when they come back out again, they don't charge me for it.

Their service is very easy. I just call in and talk to somebody or I can do it over the internet and they set it up. They find somebody in the area and the contractors come out and take care of my service. It took about a day to get my claim done when I had a problem with my air conditioner. The technician had to get authorization, came out the next day and put the part in. He was excellent! He knew his stuff and took care of the problem right away. Then, when I had my air conditioning service, there was a little difficulty. I called them and they came out. And they took care of it right away again. The quality of work was incredible! America's First Choice Home Club works perfectly. They are a wonderful company. They respond quickly and you can't go wrong with them.

Some reps at America’s First Choice Home Club certainly care more than others and they were more competent than others. I had a lot of headaches but I also had some good experiences. It would be nice if there was some proactivity on their end when there was an issue that needed to be resolved that I had no idea about and it was holding up payments. It happened to me three times now where they were waiting on me for something but they were not communicating. I have to call three weeks later to get a check. It's easier for me to deal directly with the contractor than even get AFC involved. The only service that AFC's providing is warranty which it is what it is. So it is a mixed tape for me. I'm not sure if I am going to continue with them when my contract expires. But, overall, they have been decent.

My air conditioner started freezing up outside so I stayed at a friend's house because I'm in Texas and it's 90% humidity. I called on Monday morning. I set my AC off and then I left it off overnight and it unfroze and I turned it back on and it froze up again outside. So I called them and explained what was going on. I live out in the country and they have had trouble getting the technician to come for anything. I've also had a couple of other problems with things since I bought the property and they've covered nothing.

At this point in time, they told me they'd get a technician to come out. That was on Monday. I didn't hear anything. Then I called back Tuesday. Tuesday, somebody came out and looked at it and said, "Yeah. This is what's wrong. It's gonna need to have a new..." The inside unit needed to be replaced. The outside unit was new. I talked to the warranty company and they didn't call. And then, finally, in the evening I talked to somebody and they said, "We're not gonna cover it." And I said, "Why not?" I said, "Of course, that's your answer. That's every answer that's been when something with my water heater happened and something else happened."

They said, "because the unit outside is mismatched to the unit inside and it's older than the one that's outside." And I said, "Well, in the extent that something broke outside, why would they replace what's inside?" They said, "Well, that's what's considered mismatched. They're not the same brand. And it's over 10 years older than the one outside." It just made no sense. My mother is passing away so I ended up leaving. My house is gonna be without any air for two weeks. I'm gonna have to get home and buy a whole new air conditioning unit. They're awful. Their answer for everything is, "No, we're not gonna cover it," and, "This is the excuse..." I've looked them up on Google and there is not one good thing said about this company.

You call the phone number and they're good about that. They would say, "This is your claim number. If you have any questions while we're processing it, let us know." But my problem is I live 20 minutes away from town. It's not even a big town. So they've had trouble getting anybody to come help me. So it's taking more than a day for them to get any response. And then other times it was, "Well, you have to find your own and we'll reimburse them."

And this person that came out about my air conditioner, they gave me his name and when he came out, he said, "No. I don't work for them. I'm thinking about it but I haven't signed a contract with them." I don't know how it works for a normal house in a residential area, but this has been the worst experience I've ever had with anything. I have rental properties. I carry my own insurance policies but this home warranty is just in it to get the money upfront and they do not wanna dispense anything for anything. The technician did not actually work for the company. He said, "They called me out of the blue and I told them I'd come out here and look." He didn't seem very professional.

And the interesting part, when my water heater went out, same thing. I called them and said, "I've got water pouring out my hallway." They couldn't find anybody. So they said, "Here are some numbers to call." So they gave me a number of two different people. I called the one and he said, "Who is your insurance company?" And I told them and they said, "Oh, no. I'm not dealing with them." And they hung up on me. I called AFC back and the rep from AFC that I spoke to at that time, said, "That's so weird you said that because I called and the one guy said, 'I'm never dealing with you guys again.'" That was my first experience with them.

It's the most wasted money I have ever spent in my life and I don't know how they're in business. I told the girl from AFC, "You seem like a very nice young lady. I honestly hope you're in search of another job because there is no way this company is going to last with the treatment of their customer like this. It's just so bad." It's like they're mobsters running the business. I just don't know how it's illegal but they're able to do this.

I went with AFC Home Club because they had the best-rated reviews online, even though on the Better Business Bureau every provider has horrible reviews. AFC Home Club then has been good for the most part but I was considering switching because there are so many things that they don't cover, even if I got the Platinum to make sure everything possible was covered. I found Old Republic and despite being way more expensive, everything is covered, from external plumbing, fixtures, and a bunch of things that I can’t get from AFC Home Club.

Submitting claims with them has also been weird. I do mine over the phone and even though they say you can go with anybody that you want, sometimes there’s a day delay where they have to review it before they’ll approve it. It can back things up on the timeline. Then, I had an issue with my toilet leak claim. The toilet was still leaking after the contractors came. They then told me that that the drywall needed to be cut open for them to investigate. The warranty didn't cover that so they charged me. After they did that, they found out that there was no leak from the plumbing inside the walls and that they just never tightened down the bolts to the toilet the guy had repaired before.

Now, that cost me $180. I talked to the sales rep that while I understand that under normal circumstances that wouldn’t have been covered, the incompetence of the contractor and him not doing the job right the first time led to the cutting of the wall open and all the other stuff. Then on top of that, I had to pay for somebody to come and patch up the wall afterwards. But I ate it up anyway.

My girlfriend thought AFC was the best, so I went with it. I submitted a claim over the phone and the rep took care of the problem. I wasn’t sure what to expect because my air conditioner probably could be cleaned up in some ways like a maintenance task but the technician fixed the problem. There was a clog somewhere and the drain wasn’t draining. And that was really the only thing that was functionally wrong. He went right through where the most likely place was and he was right. It was down underneath the sink in the bathroom across from the air conditioner.

He got under the sink, unclogged it, and the catch pan was draining. He put a bucket underneath the hose and disconnected it from underneath the sink and drain, poked it out, and he found debris inside the end of the hose that he removed. He said that it should all dry out up there on the ceiling and if it didn't, I should give them a call. That area dried out and I haven't had any leaks since then. I put a new ceiling and I haven't had any new stains on the ceiling panel as well. I would recommend America's 1st Choice.

I submitted a couple of claims with them and I usually just phone them. I have an annual contract for inspection on the septic. I phone the company that holds the inspection contract and then AFC reimburses me minus my deductible. When the contractors come out, they only do the repairs necessary and they don’t tinker around with additional things.

We've had problems with our AC unit and the company that I used installed the new unit that we've got. I've been with AFC for about seven years and I've only used them one other time when our microwave broke down. I used one of their techs and it was fine. Apparently, because I've recently had to deal with two issues at the house, one for the aerobic septic's air pump that went out and then we had to have something done on our AC unit, I've only got paid this past Tuesday. Their accounting and reimbursement process takes so long that I received the check for the septic issue after 30 days. Other than that, I have found AFC to be very good.

I usually don't leave bad reviews but I had to do this so nobody has to deal with this. I can't believe this company operates this way and are still in business. It's a pure scam. I signed up for their home warranty in December. I usually ask lots of questions up front because I like to know what is covered and what is not. It seems this company's business strategy is to tell you nothing, collect your money and then send you documents hoping you won't read it. My first issue came up when I contacted them for a plumbing issue and a problem with my stove.

They then responded saying there was a limit to how much can be paid out within the next 30 days following the initial waiting period. I then asked them how come they never say this upfront and their excuse was that it was in the booklet they sent me. I spoke to a supervisor and spent some time trying to explain to him why that I could live with the fact that they couldn't possibly go over every single item that was covered but not providing that kind of detail up front was not a small matter. I also noticed it was a pattern and that it was intentional because I had referred my sister to them as well before the incident and when I contacted my sister to see if she was aware of the additional waiting period she was very surprised.

Why would they be so sneaky and not tell a customer upfront. I recently called them to initiate a service request on a water heater and two boilers. After the technician came back and said one boiler had to be replaced and the other fixed, they came back and said they'd approve $113 out of over $6000. Their excuse was that it wasn't covered. I was in shock, so I basically paid $1185.00 for home warranty only to get turned down anytime something broke down. This is a daylight robbery. If I could collect my money back I would. AHS is a much better company than this one. These ones don't even care. I really should have paid attention to the reviews before signing up with the company. It's ironic, please see text from their brochure yet I am stuck with a costly repair.

"It takes a lot of inner workings to make your home “tick”. Don’t get stuck with a costly repair. When you become a home club member, based on the club plan you choose, you receive home protection and coverage on various items. Our company was created to provide affordable extended home protection plans so that homeowners never have to receive the bad news of an unexpected and costly repair bill. If you are a new home construction go ahead but be aware that you have 1 year warranty with builder already but if your home is past that buyer beware. They will throw in the card. If prorated usually over 50% of the repair. Do not buy anything from these rip offs. I called America's 1st Choice Home Club to file the claim for my stove, and they called me back with the company that they were going to send to my house for repairs. The people they sent were fine. The technician came and stated that the hinges of the doors are not functioning and it needs to be replaced. My oven is a unit that functions properly when everything is closed and shut. On most ovens, the hinges are just mechanical and keep the door open or closed, but it has nothing to do with the function of the oven. However, for my oven, it’s required because the hinges have sensors, which detect light. The sensors close the entire unit so that it functions well.

They sent the technicians a month and a half ago. Then they told me that all they can cover is a courtesy cover for an amount of $200 for repair, plus $200 for the replacement of the oven. These ovens are not cheap ovens, because these are monogram GE. Things are written out differently in their papers and it’s difficult to argue this. They have written that the hinges are not covered because hinges are mechanical, but they should cover functional stuff and in this particular oven, hinges are functional things. It should be covered. That’s the whole point of having a homeowner's warranty. I spoke with America's 1st Choice Home Club, however, they’re not going to do anything more about it. I'd tell friends that they have to read all the fine details in order not to have problems with America's 1st Choice Home Club.

And then, I had to replace my dryer that quit working. It was too old for them to fully replace it with an equivalent type because who knows how old it was. But they offered $100 off of whatever I wanted to pick, and they gave me some suggestions. That was lovely. It was a very nice compromise. They referred me to Best Buy for the purchase of a dryer.
