Our AC went out. I had to call and go to different channels with different people to submit a claim with AFC Home Club. It did take a while which was frustrating. But finally, I got the gentleman that spoke up for us. He came out here and said they have issues with the Home Club. Sometimes they didn't wanna approve their job after they give him a quote. The technician was such a gentleman and told me that he didn't like affiliating with them, but since we got caught up, he did it for us. He came out within a week but it could have been sooner. It was the hottest days of the summer, but I felt bad for the gentleman. He worked with us even though Home Club was not cooperating with him either. He had to get two calls from two supervisors. It was crazy and it took a day just to get it approved.

The next day, he was waiting and couldn't leave my house until he's got paid. We took his card just in case he leaves the Home Club because we really liked the way he did the work with us. But they finally came through. They covered so much but I had to pay for the service. I had to give the technician my credit card and they were supposed to reimburse.

I don't like how Home Club promises things and then when I need help, they don't want to help. I already tried talking to them about these benefits that I get for joining them. But we haven't been able to make use of them and have missed six of them. I'm also not happy that when we talked to them, they said that we had to have our AC already serviced before it was covered which to me was crazy. We paid a lot of money for three years already, so we're stuck. And I'm worried about how many more issues we're going to have with them down the road.

AFC Home Club was fine. We only had a problem with the plumbing contractor. They had to come out five times before they got it right. But it's all situated now. We used to have a different warranty provider before. Then we ended up switching to AFC Home Club to see what they had to offer. I was without hot water and heat for a few days so I submitted a claim. Then AFC Home Club had to call out so I have to wait. Then I again had to wait for the contractor to call me. But I had to call back AFC Home Club to keep on complaining. They ended up trying another plumbing company. And because that happened over the weekend, I had to wait until Monday. But they didn't come Monday. They came Tuesday. I definitely didn't like that part.

AFC Home club didn't know what was going on so I had to explain it to them. They sent out the plumber who came. We thought my stuff blew the boiler thinking maybe it was clogged. It kicked on for a minute but by the time he was gone, it was off, so that wasn't the problem. Then another tech came and said that he thought it was this part. He did whatever he did and it was the same thing until one of the owners of the company came out himself. He looked at it, said he thought it might be something electrical and ended up sending another guy out.

And then, the third contractor fixed it and it went from there. But the first two guys came two times each. And then, the other guy came in so it happened five times which is too many many for me. I told them I run a day care and that I didn't have hot water. They said that they didn't know I run a day care and that we're gonna get someone out first thing in the morning. I told them that it shouldn't matter what I was because if I am paying and reclaiming service, somebody should be out. But then, as I addressed it to the owner, he was never told that it was a day care center. He thought it was in my house. He said no and I told people that they should send another guy the next morning. So the plumbing guy came and then it's been fine ever since.

I've also had AFC Home Club for my refrigerators. I explained to them that one refrigerator downstairs was getting too cold one minute then wasn't getting cold enough the next. Then my other refrigerator had something with the water. They ended up coming and I had to pay $78 which I was told would be reimbursed. But they only sent $16 back. I had to pay $60 as what they said after that. But my refrigerator was working then.

A claim on my stove top appliance was denied. The reason given was that the appliance was very old and a previous claim was already paid on the appliance. However, the previous claim was for an entirely different issue. I was told that was their policy. No one told me of this policy when I was paying my premium.

When I purchased my home in Pennsylvania, I had another home warranty for the first year. But I was not happy with them, so I went online to research other companies and First Choice came up as the best. I had the option to pay three years in advance which saves me money. And, submitting a claim with them was easy although I had a little bit of problem with the last one. The water heater stopped working so the tenants in my house had no hot water. It took two days until AFC finally told me that I couldn't get anybody in the area to look at it. I ended up having to find my own technician who wouldn't deal with AFC, so I had to pay them upfront. It took a few months before I was reimbursed and the amount was only a third of what I had to pay for.

We were with American Home Shield and the vendors they were sending out were either trying to make it so it wasn't covered under the policy or was extremely costly and destructive. So we decided to try AFC Home Club. They have been getting good customer satisfaction ratings. However, we were not satisfied with them either. It's not easy to submit a claim with them. The only claim we've ever had to do was for our water heater that went bad. They basically told us that it wouldn't be covered without even submitting a claim.

Most home warranties do cover a water heater that goes out, so we were very disappointed that ours didn't. They gave us a $200 goodwill type payment instead, but it was before we knew how much it would cost us. We had to call a technician on our own and then it turned out to be a $1,800 fix. Also, we were moving and we want to cancel the service, but we haven't heard a word from them. They were good about responding, but they're unresponsive now that we're trying to cancel our policy and get our money back for those three years that we have covered.

We had a plumbing leak. Interior plumbing was covered according to the contract. After the plumber looked at it and made recommendations it turned out the pipe wasn't covered because of what it was made of?? We were given $100.00 towards the bill and ended up paying $40.00 less than the actual total because of the service fee. In my view plumbing is plumbing. It shouldn't make any difference in the type of material. Our home was build in the 70's. There could realistically be older materials that were used in the construction and subsequent upgrades that have been made since. A bit concerned about the level of service we'll get in the future. Hopefully we won't need it.

We did a research on the internet to find insurance for our appliances, and we chose AFC over everybody since they had a good price. They told me they'd be sending me a reference form every month. They never send it except when I request it. It was one of the benefits of other insurances that were offering reference.com to all the coupons, and they never send it to me as they declared.

Then when we had something with our washer, the whole experience of calling the technician, them coming and then telling us that they were not covering everything was all in small print. AFC did not tell us about this. My washer was full of water and smelling, and I had to wait to buy a new washer for the company to come and exchange it. For $60, this person came and did not help me to do anything. I was stuck and we were trying to move this washer with my husband. He had a problem with his back after this, and they did not even help me to get it out of the house. They found the small print and told me they'd pay me $100, but it was terrible service. Even if I want to be formal with them, they're speaking rules. So, we got nothing out of this insurance. It was a waste of money altogether and the worst experience I've had.

I had home warranty before which was really good and I really liked it but they went out of business. I had to find another one and saw AFC Home Club from the internet. My first claim to them was two in one. I had a problem with my hot water heater and my well. I wasn't getting any water which was an emergency, so AFC Home Club said that I go ahead and find a plumber. I did and my plumber was good and did what he had to do. It cost me $1000 and he gave me two invoices.

I faxed these twice to AFC Home Club but they said they all they got was a cover sheet. They also never contacted me to let me know that they didn't get an invoice and all they had was a cover sheet. So I emailed it three times and got a check for $190 for the well or both. Then they said they were going to give me a $150 check for good faith but I never got that. This is the only dealing that I've had with AFC Home Club so far and I dislike it. I would never recommend them. We're all paid up for three years with AFC Home Club but I went ahead and got another home warranty with someone else because I'm having so much problems with AFC Home Club.

I had a home warranty before but it did not work out well. However, the idea was good. It covers what insurance doesn't so I went with America’s First Choice Home Club. The people that I talked to were extremely helpful. They answered each question and were encouraging. We had issues with the hot water heater so I called them about it. The contractor called me the next day from the time I filed the claim. There was a sense of urgency because we didn't want it to explode and within the next day they were there.

The contractor kept calling me back and forth until finally he said that it really wasn't covered. He explained exactly what was wrong with it and why it wasn't covered. However, as a good faith move, they gave me $150 towards it. I liked the way the contractor spoke to me on the phone. I understood what he was talking about and I didn't feel that he was a contractor who just goes in and takes a look. He seemed to be very involved in the whole process and knew about what was covered and what wasn't. He was good.

I had pool issues, and the contractor is usually the one that tells me what is wrong and then they give me a written estimate. Bernice was the one I dealt with at AFC and when I emailed her a copy of the estimate, she said that it was the wrong way to do it. She was snippy about it and I have the email that she sent me back. The determination was made immediately because there were obvious things that needed to be fixed and were valid things within the contract. The permission was granted right away and I paid right away to my pool company. The problem I had was getting payment.

I have two pools and had four claims submitted to get my reimbursement. When I submitted the first, I had to chase Bernice after. I thought AFC is just trying to play a game with me like I will forget about it and just won't get reimbursed. I submit my receipts and have to keep tracking them until I'm issued something. When I initially submitted three, I got paid on two of them. I wasn't happy with it.

I would never use AFC Home Club again. When filing a claim, it took me forever to actually get a hold of anybody, and when I was trying to get called back about what was going on with the claim, it took four days. I had to call again and again. My AC was out, the temperature is 100 plus degrees, and I have a newborn baby. It has been really difficult, but they didn't want to cover my AC. At first, they said I didn't have the preventative maintenance done. I then showed that I've already sent it to them and they wound up having to call the guy who had done the work. It sounded like they were trying to get out of paying it. It took two weeks for them to finally cover it, but it was not a very enjoyable experience for me. Also, there wasn't anybody they sent out. I had to provide a technician service myself and it was a matter of waiting for their okay.

I had AHS for one year. It came with the house when I bought it, and they were terrible. Every time they would come out, I end up paying for everything, and I didn’t see the point in that. The techs they sent out did not fix what was broken too, so I had to have another tech come out and do the fixing. It was a mess, so I called AFC Home Club and stayed with them for a year. It was easy to submit claims. However, I was not told that my appliances have a depreciation. That was one reason I cancelled.

What they're giving me and what I paid wasn't even the cost of the appliances. I was under the impression that, "Oh yeah, the microwave breaks, cost $300 to fix. We'll just give you a check". It didn't work out that way. The tech came out and said that the stove, dishwasher, and refrigerator needed to be replaced. They gave me $50 for one, $75 for the other, and a couple hundred dollars for the stove to be replaced. It was ridiculous. It's cheaper for me to buy a similar model. It was frustrating, and they took a couple of months to get that refunded too. I mailed it and they didn't even file it until three weeks after. I got the refund check a couple of weeks back, so it took about two months. On the other hand, when I called, everybody was very polite. With AHS, people were rude. I just didn't want to pay for extra to AFC Home Club and have another payment coming out of my checking account right now, too.

I had some problems with my ice maker, and I didn’t know that it wasn't on the list. It may be ignorance on my part, but one of the things that AFC Home Club should do is tell people about what they cover and explain further. If the customer doesn't have any questions, they should ask for them, because maybe it's a new person who has never had any warranty before. To me, that saves them animosity later. I called three times and they said, "We don't cover that.” They could have told me that upfront. I also didn't know that the coverage doesn't carry over from year to year. When I file a claim, I call in and tell them what it is, and they tell me that it takes about 24 to 48 hours before I hear from a technician. It’s fair and good that they tell me that, so I won't be wishing somebody would have called me. The people that come out are very nice. Overall, their work has been very good.

I liked the extent of the coverage of AFC at no additional cost. I have two properties and they gave me a good price on both properties. They're at least willing to negotiate the price as far as the coverage is concerned. My primary residence is a typical single family dwelling with air conditioning, heating and dishwasher and all are covered. My rental property on the other hand is much the same thing except that it has a septic tank, which was also covered and with no additional cost. I appreciate that, especially as there's usually an additional cost involved with septic tank coverage. The only negative that I have is that they seem to get confused between my two properties. I issued a claim for my rental property and they confused it with my primary residence. As a result, there was an additional three or four-day delay in servicing the problem. And that was the second time that it happened.

The other thing was that they didn't pay attention to the location of the property and tried to send a repairman that wasn't even close to the location. That wasted another day or two. What they did was that they sent a repairman to service my rental property which is 75 miles from my primary residence and the repairman was more than 50 miles away from my rental property. My tenants were waiting for the repairman but the repairman never showed up. I had to initiate the call as to why he didn't show up and it turned out that the repairman doesn't service the area. Nobody from AFC bothered to call me. This happened on a Thursday and my tenants had to wait the entire weekend for a service person to go out on Monday. They had no hot water for four days. They're lucky that it was during the hot weather months.

AFC apologized and said that they would try and get on top of it, better the next time around. The repairman fixed the problem. Also, their people were nice to talk to and I'm probably going to renew them. There has to be a closer attention to detail when they're trying to troubleshoot a repairman out to a specific location. I think a lot of it has to do with paying attention to the zip code as to where the property is located and where the repairman services. To me, that was a dispatcher problem more than anything else. They should take a hard look at coordinating and sending people to repair based on the location of the property.

They took care of what I needed and covered what I needed to cover. I've had some problems submitting a claim but we weathered the storm. Part of the problem is that it takes three days for a contractor to get in touch with us. Last time, I called AFC to put in the work order and got permission from them to contact a contractor I had previously used. Once he completed the work, I got a copy of the bill and faxed it to customer service. They reimbursed me the amount of his work minus the $60 for the service fee. That worked better for me because I got somebody right out there and it was no guesswork. Additionally, they once sent me a card to go to a restaurant and get a free meal. I like that feature 'cause that helps pay for my annual fee. All in all, everything is good.

When we bought our home, we were looking for a home warranty. The customer service rep at AFC Home Club was very helpful and he was the reason why I chose the company. Claim submission was easy but it was a little difficult to get this claim finally done. It seems like it took a month. When I finally got them everything they needed, I was supposed to get a check in the mail. I waited several more months and when I called AFC, they submitted the payments. So somehow they didn't get it executed and I had to call and remind them.

Also, we just had an air-conditioner failure. We had our unit inspected when we bought our home then we found out that it wasn't covered because it required a maintenance call. We thought it quantified as a maintenance visit, but an inspection didn't cover us. We had to buy a $12000 AC unit and we got no coverage over it because of the technicality of verbiage. Then we had a water claim as well when the waterline broke. It wasn't covered as well because they said that there was corrosion involved. Anytime there's a leak, there's gonna be corrosion of pipes. We think we're covered and we're really not. I learned a big lesson on home warranties that everything is in the fine print. So right now I'm choosing to not get another home warranty and I'm just going to save my thousand dollars, put it in the bank and I'd probably come out ahead.

AFC covers a lot of the things that are present in the house and they have a nice setup. Their pricing is readily available and I have the information that I needed to make an informed decision. Although there's one time when they dropped the ball a little bit. I filed a claim and the technician called me within a couple of days. He came out, did the initial look-over and I paid him. But a couple of weeks went by, I didn't hear from him or AFC. A couple more weeks went by, I called him and he said that he had already talked to AFC and that everything was closed out, but I still didn't have an answer on my end of what was supposed to happen. But once I called AFC, they did some research, got back with me, and got the situation straightened out. So that was more of a lack of communication or follow-up.

On later instances, I haven't had a follow-up issue so that may be something that's already been put in place. On the other hand, I've never had a problem with the people that were sent out. They were very friendly, very professional, and did a good job. They are working with people that get the job done well and they have good communication skills.

I was doing online search for home warranties. America's 1st Choice Home Club has really good advertising, less headaches, and compared to other companies, I thought it was the best choice because we had other companies previously. I wanted to try America's 1st Choice Home Club because it listed a lot of the positive stuff what they're gonna do or offer. When I signed up, the experience with the gentleman I spoke was easy and good, but unfortunately, it's a horrible nightmare experience I ever had with AFC. My first time we had a claim and every time we have one, it is back and forth. It's never resolved.

When we had a problem with other companies, we call them and they send the technician. They take a look at it and they say it's this or that. I had a claim with America's 1st, I had to explain and get a hold of a manager. And nobody returns my emails. It was always an explanation, “Oh, this was in the contract. We told you already.” Very rude customer service that I deal with. When I signed up, they were like, “Garbage disposal is covered.” So I thought whatever we discussed was in their contract. Then my first claim was for garbage disposal. They're like, “Oh, we're not gonna do it. We send it to you. You install it.” So that was a huge headache for us. And it took us six hours because we didn’t know how to do it. We installed it ourselves.

And then there was an outside leak. We spoke with the manager, Britney, back and forth. Britney spoke with the technician and she told the company that, "We can give the $100,” but it's been three months that we're still waiting. I was very frustrated that she gave the okay to the guy, “Go ahead to do the work. We'd reimburse the $100.” Then they said that I should receive an email like about four weeks ago that the $100 is going to be sent but I still haven't received it.

I had a sprinkler leak and the plumbing I called said, “Oh, it's the pipe.” And then I called AFC so many times. I wanted somebody to come take a look at it if it's the plumbing or if it comes from somewhere else. It's like hours and they're saying, “It's the sprinkler." And when I brought the company myself, they were saying, “It's not the sprinkler. It was coming from somewhere else.”

They have very bad customer service. They never respond to me. They should have a website that I can file a claim, follow-up, or email, get hold of somebody instead of calling verbally and then nothing is done. I also faxed a letter. They're like, “Oh, I haven't received your fax. Let me check.” Then, “We received it,” four weeks later. And then I called and they said, “No. You didn’t fax anything.” Unbelievable. I'm tired of them. I hope they refund my $100 like they mentioned and also the remainder of the fees before further actions for them. They're the worst company I ever dealt with.

It was an extremely bad experience with AFC Home Club. They contacted me, and their sales pitch was very fraudulent. They promised the moon then didn't deliver. Their technicians are outsources. They probably called Yellow Pages and tried to get somebody from there to send to their membership. Technicians are no problem. The problem is with the company. They don't pay their bills and they give the runaround on claims. It takes forever to get any answers. There are all kinds of equations of maintenance too. They wasted so much time, and I will never renew my membership with them.

The way AFC advertised made you believe that they were a good company. But we've had an issue and it took forever to get it resolved, which is not why you get a warranty company. We still have them but we're not super happy with them. To submit a claim, it's fine, but for them to get back with you and actually get it done, it takes forever. Our dishwasher broke July 11th, and it was middle September before everything got worked out. And, I shouldn't have to always call. They say, "Oh, we'll get back with you." But they never do. I always have to make the initial call again.

They sent out two different people to look at it. One said something was wrong and then they sent out another one and he said something else was wrong. So they went with the one that said that something was wrong but it's not covered. But the other thing was really wrong that was covered. After two months, I ended up just buying a new dishwasher on my own because it was broken. And yes, it should've been covered but they sent somebody out. And they said, "Oh well, no, that part's not broken. It's this part," but it was really the other part.

The technician was friendly, but he works for somebody else. They just send him out. The technicians say that they usually don't work with America's First Choice. So that leads me and my husband to wonder because we've had home warranties for 12 years. And then when we signed up with this company, the technicians say, "Well, we really never even heard of this company."

AFC Home Club said I could have my own repair people. The first claim I had for an air conditioner that wasn't running was ridiculous. I called and said at that time that I would look for somebody and they could look for somebody to see who could get out here the quickest. I didn’t hear anything for two days so I called back in and that’s when I found out they said I needed to provide preventative maintenance before they would do anything. So I sent that documentation, and then once again waited for either them to send somebody or me to get somebody. But the bottom line is I already got a contractor and AFC Home Club didn't know about that. After the air conditioner was fixed, AFC Home Club said somebody was coming to fix it. That took a week altogether.

Then I called in the other day with a claim for the water heater and the person that handled it told me that the woman I had talked to before had been let go because of the way she had handled things. I went online and saw what was said about what was covered with water heaters. Then they sent a contractor out. He put in a thermal coupler that didn't work then put in a controller that didn't work as well. He then said I needed a new water heater. So I called AFC and that's when they told me I wasn't covered. They said the water heater was too old and that that's in the contract. They sent me a copy of the contract so I can see it. So I got no coverage on that at all.

The stuff is old which is one of the reasons why I'd want a warranty as it might go bad. But there's no mention that I can see that online. I bought it believing whatever my stuff was, AFC Home Club was gonna cover it. However, even in their contract, it says that I am responsible for making sure I do get the contract. I’m trying to decide now whether I want to cancel my contract and get it prorated or stick with them.

I have double air conditioners and double water heaters in the house and with AFC Home Club's warranty, I was able to cover all of them. It's easy to submit a claim. I emailed one to AFC Home Club but they did not get it initially. But when I re-emailed it and talked to them, it got paid. And then, when I called ahead of time and let them know I had a claim, they told me who to call in the area, which was very helpful because I didn't know anybody there. All I had to then was send contractors my information about the type of warranty AFC covered me on. Once the technician did the work and gave me a receipt, I just emailed it all to AFC and that was it.

Since that time, I've had the same people come and work for me on a couple of other things that were not warrantied. These technicians were very helpful and did an excellent job. They were able to get things done rapidly and cleaned up after themselves. The quality is there in the work that's been performed. I'd recommend AFC Home Club.

I had two claims with AFC Home Club and it's been good. There was a little problem initially. I submitted a claim and nobody saw the email. I thought it was in the process, and had to wait for almost a month, before calling them. It looked like nobody checked the email, so I followed up and they found my claim, then processed it promptly. There was no issue in processing the claim, but it's better if somebody can take care of the email so they don't have a one-month delay. Other than that, they have good customer service. I'm with AFC for another two years, and I'll keep them. Additionally, I use my own technician most of the time to repair the pool, and that flexibility is good because I don't have to wait for their technician to come.

They spend weeks trying to get someone out to look at it, but they charge too much then never find the right contractor. They also said the cheaper contractor doesn’t deal with them so no one wants to come out. But they seemed very nice and friendly when I call. That’s the way they're set up to reimburse. When I sent the receipt to them, I was supposed to receive a check, however, they only sent me one for the washer and they forgot about the dryer. That was a little pain so I have to call back and keep emailing my relation manager. But then she made a point that I get my full refund back, so that was great. The original reviews I read about AFC were good but then after having problems with them and finding other reviews, I regretted my choice. The first four calls I made for repairs, they kept saying they didn't cover it. Two claims ended up getting repaired and I didn’t even file one ‘cause they said they probably didn’t cover that. We’ve had other warranty companies that we’ve never had an issue with. There are things they apparently don’t cover, even though when I look online it says “all interior wiring.” I call about outlets that aren’t working and they said they don’t cover it and that they only cover the power source, which would be the box outside. Nobody can give me an explanation as to what interior wiring means. I’m welcome to have somebody come out and pay the service call and then they can determine if they cover it. But I’m not gonna do that and then have to pay an additional charge for something else.

It took a few weeks just to get a plumber out to my house because AFC was telling me that a certain plumber was coming. I called that plumber and they told me they’re not dealing with the warranty company. Then AFC told me again that the plumber was coming and I called them back and they say they’re handling this. I finally got a call that another plumber’s coming, and then it took days to get that plumber to come out. They did the job and it was fine, but it was a lot of back and forth. With my garage door opener, I had to have someone come out and they couldn't do anything to it. They had to diagnose it first. They couldn’t diagnose a problem without doing something to it ‘cause they’ve got to know what the problem was, so it eventually got fixed. But I have to use the right wording with them on the phone.

AFC needs to ask a lot of very specific questions when I don’t know what questions to ask. There’s also supposed to be this $25 a month in restaurant gift cards and I haven’t seen those yet. I’ve seen two gift cards come for memberships to a restaurant service delivery, but that’s not exactly a $25 restaurant gift card. I will finish the first year with them but I've canceled the second two years.

A technician comes in within a couple of days and depending on my schedule, but they’re normally readily available within 24 to 48 hours. They’re very patient.

Overall AFC has been excellent because I bought this house April 1st, 2013, built from the ground up and they built the house so fast that I didn’t think I could’ve sued them for negligence. I made up my mind that whatever I replace, it would be top quality and it’d be a top-quality company that would install it. I've replaced four things so far, including the sump pump, but it wasn’t under the warranty so I had to pay by my own pocket. When January comes, I can renew my contract and I’m gonna add some more things on it. I've told my church about AFC, so I’ve been advertising for their company because I had good experiences.

The warranty is okay, but the problem is that the response time is so slow and we had a couple of times thinking about canceling. When I make a call, the technician will come over, do the diagnosis and then come back and will make a check and come back again to fix the problem. Every time we call to make a schedule, they're not available immediately. The last time, it took us two weeks and the problem was not resolved, so we had to hire a local plumber and then send the receipt. So now from the last two times, we had to try the local people to do the repair and it's faster and cheaper that way.

The last time, the contractor tried to fix the supply valve and he told me $280 for labor charge and with the part. I had the plumber come over and it's only for $100 to $120. It's much cheaper and he did the right way next day. Yes, I will get my investment back, it only takes four or five weeks. Maybe next time when we have an issue I'll just tell AFC instead that maybe I'd try to get the local plumber, send receipt and maybe it will go faster.

    Updated review: Nov. 6, 2019

I’ve had coverage with AFC on rental houses since 2012. Over the years, AFC has grown and there have been some growing pains. They are implementing technology to improve their process, but getting the call center reps to input their notes is still a challenge. One big improvement is that a manager is following up to make sure service goes smoothly. If they use this feedback in training, it will be a powerful competitive advantage. The biggest challenges in a construction environment are clear communication and scheduling between all the subs. A home repair service call is similar, in that there are a lot of steps between taking the call and the final payment. I am excited to see management involved in feedback and training to be sure the service loop is completed.

    Original Review: Oct. 6, 2016

I have seven houses under contract with AFC Home Club. I thought their price and the coverage was good. However, I have not found that to be the case. I still have unpaid invoices from back in June and it has taken so much of my time to tell what has been paid or not. They disregard what the technicians says and go with what the homeowner originally thought was the problem. They would deny payment on that ground even if it turns out to be something different. Also, the technicians are hard to get a hold of, so I have a crew that I can call on. They are people who have worked for me in the past or use regularly in the trade and have done a good bit of work. Then I would pay them when the job is done, but it takes a minimum of six weeks to get reimbursed with AFC.

I was in Savannah two weeks ago and my property there had a leak in one of the spigots leading to the valve of the washing machine. The plumber waited for 45 minutes for somebody to give him the go ahead. Their reps were rallying over to the technician's line and they had not done it over the weekend. The phone was rolling to the after-hours recording and the plumber sat there for 45 minutes. So I decided to let the plumber fix the valve without the approval since it just needed to be tightened. I fired AFC and I'm going to ask for a refund of the unused money for this property.

I had an appointment to speak to them, but I had to cancel. In fairness to their rep, she did make the appointment and was very concerned. She's professional and easy to work with. It's really not the people because they're very nice and responsive, but it's the process that they have in place. I don't get any kind of statement or status update and I can't tell what property and when they're invoicing me. I also had an issue with the technicians not being able to get through and speaking to someone on the service. Then the prompt payment is a huge. They owe me a lot of money and I am not renewing any of my contracts. My time is valuable and it has cost me as much in my time to track of all these.

Once the technician came, he fixed it within 30 minutes, and his work was very good. But there was one claim which left me hanging for a large bill because it wound up going out unexpectedly two months after I got the warranty, but I'm not upset because I understand there were waiting periods stated in the contract.

We bought the house and the realtor told us about America's 1st Choice. What's good about it is we can go with any service person. It doesn't have to be the ones they send and that was inviting. But unfortunately we had a lot of bad experience. We bought the house and before we moved we changed the floors. Two out of our eight toilets were leaking. When I called the service man, he came and called them and America's 1st choice said they're not covering it because they're part of remodeling. And the guy got his $60 and said he'll come back but he never came back and was only after my $60. The second experience was my cook top had some problems and the serviceman came and America's 1st Choice said the cook top was old and that I have to pay it myself to have it fixed. So we paid out of pocket to have it fixed.

The third thing that happened was we had a leak from the ceiling in one of the bathrooms. It's somehow one of the pipes. We didn't have time to deal with America's 1st Choice so I called our own. We have a good plumber and he came, detected the leak, opened the ceiling and he stuffed it. He didn't have time to fix it, so he said he will come back a couple of days later. And at the meantime, I called America's 1st Choice and they said, "We're not gonna cover the detection part of it." If something needs repair they have to detect and they have to fix it. So because the first time the plumber didn't fix it, they didn't pay me the total amount. They took about two months to pay me for them. And I have to call a couple of times to follow up with that.

So I don't recommend this company to anybody. This is not the first time we have had home warranties. We have rental properties that we have home warranty and almost every other company has been a better experience than America's 1st Choice. And if I could get my money back, I would leave them. It's a waste of time and money. I'm very dissatisfied with America's 1st Choice.

Then I had a washing machine issue as well and it took them eight weeks to give the money. I only got $250 and it was a $1,000 machine. They did that to our dishwasher too. I gave them three strikes and they were out. I paid too much money in a year for a home warranty like that. If I'm going to have to come up with that much cash, I'll just save the cash and not pay somebody.

It also takes me four to six weeks to get a percentage of my money back which is ridiculous. They had to get approval from a manager who then had to sign off on it on their time. Then they let me sign off too and then they send it to someone else again. Also, I still get a bill for a plumbing issue because AFC haven't paid it when they were supposed to and that was four years ago. We've had other home warranties before which were a lot better than AFC Home Club.

All they seemed to read was that it was an icemaker problem, and then that’s when they told me icemakers aren’t covered, which seemed odd to me because it's part of the refrigerator. That was in July and still to this day they have not fixed my freezer. I called again this past Friday, and I said, “Could you please read through that because there are some other issues besides the ice maker and this has already been determined.” Now, because my freezer still is not repaired, my floor’s running to buckle in my kitchen.

Then I had a washing machine leaking and I come to find out that the repairs exceeded the value. So they said, “We're gonna give you a $100 towards the purchase of another washing machine,” which I said, “Okay.” They sent me the check September 26th and I deposited it into my Chase account. My bank says that it said “Return to Maker” and for me to contact the payor. I contacted them and they stopped payment on it. They still haven't paid so now I have NSF fee and I had to deposit extra money to cover it. I was also in touch with the appliance company and they’ve emailed and they’ve done all that they can do, but their hands are tied because they're waiting for AFC to give them an okay to fix something. And then if they send the appliance company out again to fix the refrigerator, then I'm gonna have to pay the deductible again. It's a racket. I submitted a claim for the washer and AFC Home Club said it wasn’t fixable. It was an old one which was about three years. They also said it was a pre-existing condition and they don't cover that. We had it fixed before and once you fix it, it's done, so it's not a pre-existing one. The bearings were out as well and that’s just the wear and tear part period. They only gave me $200 for the washer and it was $1,000 when we bought it. I had to go to supervisors just to get that amount and they were doing that out of the kindness of their heart. So basically we got nothing and I wasn’t too thrilled with that. When we had American Home Shield, they didn’t care how old it was and they’ll replace the appliance with a new one.

Right now we just had our ducts cleaned and AFC Home Club told us that the ducts needed to be replaced, are covered on the insurance, and I've got to make a claim. But I know the second I do they're going to say it's pre-existing and not do it. So I'm seriously thinking of changing companies because they could literally make anything they want to be pre-existing.

We had dealt with one or two companies that were just totally awful. But AFC has done nothing but a good job since we've been with them. Some of the parameters that meeting the money part of it, what they cover and don't, is a fine line on some things. It took us a while to get it all in our brains like it should be. But they had just done a wonderful job.

The last issue we had was with our washing machine. I called and told them what was going on and they immediately called this guy we deal with on a regular basis and he took a look at it and said there's nothing they could do. We need to replace some parts and it would cost more so we might as well buy a new washer. So I decided I want a new washing machine. However, I researched new washing machines and they have been redesigned for the sake of the environment. The cycle takes a lot longer, the unit senses the water levels and you will end up with dirty clothes. We experienced this firsthand during our vacation so we decided to get our washing machine redone instead of buying a new one.

The manager of the place we were dealing with was very nice and ready to pay for whatever their policy calls for on a new washing machine, and he was perfectly happy with us getting the old one fixed too. I appreciate their professionalism because they've had to deal with some repairmen not wanting to deal with them and then some wanting money upfront because they do have a problem with the way they pay contractors. That's why there are so many guys who won't work with them. In fact, we've had a few occasions where AFC took a while to find somebody who would work with them because of the payment situation. But we've looked out at this local guy and AFC is allowing me to call him anytime there's an issue and there hasn't been one since the washing machine. He was very happy with the $200 that the company paid him to. It all worked out beautifully. We pay whatever our part is.

AFC Home Club hasn't been good. I've requested service three times and been refused three times. I made a request for our pool and we paid extra for pool maintenance only to find out that they changed laws in California where it has to be a two-stage deal when replacing a motor pump which turns out to be quite expensive. There's a limitation on what AFC was going to pay which added up to not even half of what it was going to cost me. They can't replace the motor with anything less, so it was refused and I can't get what I have in there now. We were willing to pay 500 bucks and so it went to the paperwork and it stated that they will only pay $500 for it.

We also called them up when our standalone freezer inside our garage stopped working. The contract says freezers are included in everything I would've needed for, but it's optional. When I called to ask for the services, I got stiffed because they told me that I didn't pay for that. They will not pay for a standalone, so we had to pay extra for it.

The third thing was the air conditioning unit. It was leaking water, but my wife have had it serviced in the last year, so I ended up paying out of pocket for the service. I try and do things economically, so I had told them that I was going to replace a timing unit with my pool, which work out well for me. The workman who had come out and said that the pump also needed replacing, but it has been working ever since we put the new timer. However, I'm not very confident, so not only did the insurance or the warranty company failed me, but the guy they sent out to us has failed us as well. So all in all my experience has been really horrible.

I've had other warranty companies and one of them was a family-run business and they followed through every time that we would require their services, but they went out of business. I don't know all the details of reading through all this stuff, then it turns out that they're not paying a lot for me. So I'm not a happy camper with them. They are nice enough people, but I would cancel the contract with them if I had a choice since they're not helping me.

The wording on their contract is very subjective, and everything I’m submitting seems to be falling under the exclusions. This past week my pool guy sent an estimate for something and I forwarded it to AFC's rep who said it's excluded. I forwarded it back to the pool guy and he said he was not giving me a new pool pump. Everything that I say, they found something to say that it wasn’t covered that it didn’t matter how I worded it. Then I couldn’t submit a new claim because the rep said they had already submitted it.

The technicians have performed their work but I’ve had to pay it every time. So far I’ve paid thousands this year and I’ve only gotten a $125 check. It’s really disheartening ‘cause I thought this stuff was covered. AFC also doesn’t have anywhere online where I can post anything bad to say about them. I would cancel if I could, but unfortunately I have another year left on the contract and they’ll charge me $50 to cancel it. It has cost me more this year in repairs than ever. I’d have to pay everything out of pocket. I feel very dissatisfied with the service and I would not recommend it.

However, they said our refrigerator's ice maker wasn't covered. I didn't know that they have each specific part under warranty. But that's the way they are and it works better when I understand that they're particular about what they're going to do for me, and to not just assume.

When I purchased my home back in 2012 it came with a one year home warranty. The company I was with provided excellent customer service and covered just about everything in my home. However in 2015 a decision was made to merge with another company and hold times went from less than 5 minutes to more than 2 hours in some cases. As a result I started searching for a new home warranty company. I decided to go with America's 1st Choice Home Club because even though they did not have the highest rating they actually took the time to address every negative claim that was listed on the review website.

When I contacted them the sales person told me that he would be my project manager and that anytime I had a claim and there was a problem he would tracking everything right along with me. He explained to me that there was a 60 day waiting period for claims which I was not happy with but understood. When he sent me the contract it was very vague so I asked about this and he told me it was vague because not all issues could be covered in the contract and also it gives the customer more flexibility. They also offered a military discount which was also good. I was also told that I could cancel the contract at anytime if I was not satisfied and would receive my money back (at a prorated rate based on time on the contract and if any claims had been paid out.) Because the price was significantly less than what I had been paying I signed up for the 3 years at the Gold service level rate.

Claims Process for AFC work order number **. Bottom Line Up Front (BLUF): While customer service was easy to contact the claims process did not go as I expected. My salesperson provided little to no oversight of the process, the company failed to locate a technician to conduct the repair, my claim was denied for a repair that is listed as covered both on this website and their website and it has been 11 weeks since I was told I was going to get a partial reimbursement and I have still not received the check.

Problem #1- Sales person immediately passed me off to customer service instead of helping to file the claim. On June 16th 2016 I contacted the sales person who told me he would follow me through the process of submitting a claim and I told him that I wanted to submit a claim for an electrical wiring issue in my house. He immediately told me I need to call customer service.

Problem #2- Customer service was unable to locate an electrician to complete the repair. I called customer service that day and explained the problem they did not tell me that it was not a covered repair. I received a call back later that week and was told that they attempted to contacted 12 or 13 companies and none of them were available to come out that week to fix my problem. I then asked if I could contact my own company to do the repair and was told yes. I contacted a company and set up a date but when I asked if they accepted home warranty claims I was told no. I then contacted customer service again and was told that I could use that company and AFC would pay the claim based on the diagnostic report. I told the company this and they agreed to provide a write up once the work was completed. I had the worked completed on June 30, 2016 and forwarded the diagnostic report on 1 July 2016.

Problem #3- repair claim was denied. On this website it claims that all interior wiring is covered on the AFC website it claims that all interior wiring is covered if you purchase the Gold plan (which I did). I called on the 6th of July and was told that my claim was denied because on the wiring going to the fuse box and the circuit breakers themselves were covered. I clearly explained before that the issue I had was for lights in my breakfast room when I filed my claim. I was told that since the person that took the claim did not initially tell me it was not covered that I would be receiving a partial reimbursement.

Problem #4- Contract is extremely vague. On 6 July I asked for a copy of my contract and after reading the section on electrical wiring it is confusing. One section says interior wiring is covered but in the list of exclusions interior wiring is excluded. Problem #5- It takes longer than 4-6 weeks to receive a reimbursement check. On July 6th when I was told I would be receiving a partial claim I asked how long it would take and was told it would be 4-6 weeks. I called at the 7, week mark and was told that a follow-up on the claim would be sent to the supervisor.

Problem #6- Sales person did not provide follow-up again. When I did not receive the check by the next week I emailed my salesperson on August 31st. I explained to him the issues I was having and sent him a copy of the diagnostic report. He told me that he would look into it the next day and get back to me. I emailed him two days later and asked if he had gotten a response. (I received no response from him.) I emailed him again a few days later with no results. So I called customer service again and was told again they would look into the problem.

Problem #7- Supervisor failed to get accounting to send the check at next available time. On September 7 I called customer service again and this time asked to speak to the supervisor. She told me that she did not know why it took so long for me to get my check and she said that she would contact accounting and have them send the check on 8 September and if I did not receive the check by the 16th to call back again.

Problem #8- I asked the supervisor about why my claimed was denied she told me that interior wiring other than the wiring directly coming out of the fuse box or the circuit was not covered. I asked her why the website was showing "all" interior wiring and she told me that the IT department controls the website and she has nothing to do with that. She told me her job was to process claims and that interior wiring is not covered. I called today 19 September and was told that the check was mailed yesterday (didn't know they were open for business on Sunday) and that I should be receiving it soon. So as they say the check is in the mail. I don't know if/when I will actually receiving the check.

I've had a few experiences with America's 1st Choice Home Club and I've not been very happy with them. One of the times, I had a freezer that was not working and they took a long time finding a contractor in the area. When they did, he's like, "Oh, it needs to be replaced." So he called them and they wanted a second opinion because they don't think it needs to be replaced. They're looking for any way not to have to pay for the claim.

They couldn't find anybody else and left it up to my wife to spend a good half-day, if not more, trying to find somebody. They put the burden on us to find a second opinion that they wanted. When we finally found somebody, they said, "We don't contract with them so you'll have to pay them and we'll pay you back." So he got the freezer fixed and then I submitted my claim. And it took them almost two months to give me my check. When they send me the check, they took $60 out, which I had already paid to the first inspector and was required to pay. So they had to send me another check for $60 which took another 6 weeks so I wasn't happy with that to begin with.

Then I got another claim when our dryer went out so we called. They said, "We'd get it fixed." They sent the same repairman who did the work on our freezer. We really liked him, nice service. He went to submit the claim to them and he sat on the phone for like an hour and he's like, "I don't have time for this." So he went ahead and fixed it and then they said they are not gonna pay for it because we didn't get prior authorization.

The technician gave them the report that there was lint and other stuff in the dryer and this is stuff that he suctioned out that has no way of me being able to get it. You got to take the dryer apart to get it. They claimed that because there was lint in the dryer this was a maintenance issue and they aren't responsible for it. I didn't even know the status of that claim. I talked to the company, which is almost two months after the incident, and they're like, "We're still fighting with them to try to get this done."

And then I filed for a third claim on our hot tub. They called the contractor and said, "We're not covering this because it's part of the pool." And we said, "We know it specifically covers for the pool." There's a separate clause that I had to call them back and say, "Look, this is a separate hot tub. It's a totally separate article. It doesn't pertain to that and you are gonna cover this because it says it's being covered." It took them two days to get back to me from a manager and then the manager is like, "Well, the hot tub is 13 years old, so we're not paying for it. Depreciation says we're not gonna have to pay for it. But as a goodwill gesture, we'll pay for half of it."

Those are the three claims I've had and it's been like pulling teeth to get them to get somebody. Forever reimbursement and then it's always a fight because they're trying not to pay for stuff. They're gonna find any excuse they can not to pay for it and that's not the purpose of a home warranty. They have a staff that is poorly informed about the stuff, from their sales people to their main department and their responses are very slow.

One of the reasons I chose them is because they had good ratings on the internet searches that I did. But after I worked with them I'm probably gonna look for a new company before my contract expires. If I could find somebody who is going to do a better job before my contract ends, I'll probably cancel.

Submitting a claim is not difficult, but getting paid for the claim is very frustrating. I explained to them that I was an insurance adjuster for many years and we would not do a policy without having the money, and that’s exactly their process, too. People don’t get their policy until they get the premium. But when a claim is filed, people pay for it then they are reimbursed, but they said it takes up to eight weeks to issue a check. I said, “That doesn’t sound right. Today’s electronic deal is you can just approve it, print the check, then throw it in the mail.

They should change their payment process to reimburse their customers as fast as possible. We’ve had three claims and I’m still waiting to get paid for the third one. The other one was in their policy. However, they’re not very explicit about what they cover. We had a problem with the wiring in our well, going down to the pump. I placed a $3000 claim but they wouldn’t cover it. They said, “Well, you have to take out extra coverage for wells.” I replied, “You should’ve explained that to me in the buying process.” I would’ve taken out the extra coverage if they told me that. I was changing from my old home warranty to a new one and AFC Home Club's price was better at the time for what I needed. I went over with them on some details on my inground pool which as turned green. When I called, at first they said my part’s gonna be $380 and I told them that’s not right as I had already paid $60 and all the labor should be covered. I called on a Thursday and they didn’t call me back until Tuesday. It was over the Labor Day weekend and Monday was also a holiday.

So when I called back on Tuesday, I told them that I was confused because when I talked to the people to get the warranty, I asked them what the deal was, how it worked, and what I was looking at if anything went wrong with my swimming pool or appliance. And they explained in great detail how I would pay the person that comes out there $65 or $75. I went with that because I'm a single mom and have to be careful.

Three to six months ago, the pool's motor was making noise and I was told I'll have to wait until it goes out so they can fix or replace it. So when the motor finally went out that Labor Day weekend, I was told the value of my warranty payment depreciated over a period of time. I told them I understood that but they needed to make that very clear to me as I'm old and so that I'd be more prepared instead of thinking I got home warranty and am only gonna be out 65, 70 bucks unless something major happens. And also so we have that option of either changing or staying with their company. But they said they'd cover the pool and everything and I won’t have anything to worry about. The lady I talked to said the most I would be out would be $150 plus the $65. I told them then that I can do that. I appreciated talking to them and thanked them for listening.

When I came back to pay it, all I ended paying out was $60, so that was very nice. They really did a good job taking care of me, and for that reason I’ll go back with them again because that’s my biggest concern. I can deal with a refrigerator but when it comes to a pool, I wanted to make sure that I'm covered. And they were really good and stayed in touch with me that time. The only thing they didn’t do which surprised me was to call back on the Friday to let me know what was going on. The other three times I’ve used them, they’ve called back immediately and had a company ready to come out and take care of me immediately. The service like that on their part is wonderful.

I usually submit my claims over the phone, and the claims reps have been very pleasant, and they answer my questions. When I purchased this home, the AC did not work at all and the previous owner suggested that I reach out to AFC who then told me that they had been sending people to examine it and they had done so much patch work on it. I got another opinion from an AC guy that my family uses and trusts, and he said that they had done such patch work on it that it wasn't repairable anymore, and it should have been replaced long before. So, I purchased a whole new system and the only thing AFC gave me was $500 for a $7,000 system. That's the last thing I needed after buying a home. Also, they said I would get the check within four to six weeks, but it took them over eight weeks.

I filed another claim for the dishwasher because that wasn't working either. But I ended up getting a friend to come and look at it. And when they had installed a new garbage disposal, because that didn't work either, whoever installed it didn't take out a plug. So the dishwasher would just fill with water. But I ended up just getting a friend to look at it, and he was able to fix it. So I notified AFC that I didn't need any further assistance with the dishwasher. I am extremely disappointed. So when it came to my claim, they said the item is covered but because the system is so old, they had to prorate it. They only gave me back partial money for the repair, even though the repair wasn’t based on the age of the system - it was because it was super hot outside, we had a heat wave and the AC overheated. However, they only gave me $200 to replace it and they didn't pay for the installation. They don't cover new installs which is crazy. I've never heard of that before in my life. I was with another company and they paid for everything but this company doesn't. So I’m pretty sure I won’t be back with them once my contract is up.

I'm not very happy about my claims experience with America's 1st Choice Home Club. We have a pool and the motor went off and they would not replace it. They fixed it but we had to pay for it. So having the home warranty from them didn't work. I also have another home that is covered by them and they didn't want to do the air conditioning. I was not very happy with that. They should honor all the warranties. I signed up for three years but as soon as I'm done with the three years, I'm moving.

So far so good with America's 1st Choice Home Club. They are very reasonable when they come to your home and find something that technically isn't covered. Often they will still fix it because you are paying the service fee anyway. I appreciate that. Very prompt as well. I don't think the restaurant gift cards are really a perk but that is mostly because I don't like the restaurants that are included.

We weren't able to get technicians to come out in a lot of the appliance issues that we have. In one case, we've had to purchase a washing machine and we were told that we would be reimbursed but we never were. We had a problem with our refrigerator and the technician said it needed a main computer and another computer part. However, we couldn't get in touch with him after a week. I had no refrigerator at all, so all our food went bad. America's 1st Choice got another technician to come in and said that the main computer board had gone bad and that I also needed a new ice maker. The board was covered but not the new ice maker. That was an issue because that was a $200 that we had to pay. Our biggest issue is not making sure that everything that we thought was covered is actually covered.

I'm a real estate agent and I've had other warranty companies. As far as I can tell right now, America's 1st Choice is not the first one that I would recommend to any of my clients. I usually call whenever I submit a claim. Some of the other warranty companies have very user friendly sites, and I thought of going online but I wasn't able to do it with America's 1st Choice.

When I first started, they were saying that I could use my own technicians but now it's conflicting. They should make sure that everybody understands what's going on, or what's in the contract.

I submitted a claim with America's 1st Choice to have an air conditioner looked at. They said it hadn't been serviced in a year, so they refused to do that and I got another insurance company to take care of it. Then, I submitted another claim for the dryer and I'm very dissatisfied that I'm now looking for another company. The girls in claims were very nice. I have no issue with them. However, I've called my agent over a hundred times and he hasn't called me back as of yet, and the claim was submitted in June. The whole thing was terrible. I had to keep calling to get someone to come out. The service technicians kept ordering unnecessary parts, and it took over 60 days to get a dryer fixed. It was a mess, I hated it.

AFC Home Club's claim process is pretty self-explanatory. However, there are some hidden things that I didn't know. For example, on the pool they'll cover up to $500 a year only. And once I hit the $500, I'm done for the year. I also went to call for service on my air conditioner but before I could do that I had to prove that I've had my air conditioner serviced, which kind of makes no sense, because I didn't know that. So therefore I had my air conditioner serviced with another company and I was gonna have to call AFC Home Club. Their customers need to be made more aware of how the process will go, what's covered, how much covered. These are the things that AFC Home Club should let us know from the beginning.

Regarding the contractors sent by them, we had one contractor from the pool that was horrible. We'll never have them come back. We called AFC Home Club and they worked with us and now what we do is we find our own technician and then AFC Home Club goes ahead and pays for it. But on the electrical and the plumbing that they sent, the contractors were really good.

I did a Google search for home warranties and saw that AFC Home Club is highly rated. Our first claim was a little rocky on the part of the contractor, but once I brought that to their attention, they kept a closer eye on it and made sure everything was squared away. AFC's claims representative was wonderful. I called on a Friday for a closed dryer malfunction.

The contractor came on time but there was a miscommunication. He was under the impression that AFC was gonna call me back after his assessment to schedule the repair. However AFC said it never happened that way, but they had only worked with this contractor for a couple of times and that they'll have to educate him on the flow of information. It was supposed to be that once he assesses the issue, he calls us back and they give him the authorization, then he should work directly with the us, the homeowners, or get back in touch with them to reschedule. It's great that AFC is 100 percent forthcoming, whereas a lot of people would have blamed it on something else.

Once I got back in touch with AFC to let them know and we got the service scheduled, the lady that called said that she'll follow up through the whole thing. She called me after the repair guy called back to schedule the repair itself. Then she called me the next day about 15 minutes after he left, to make sure everything was in good and working order. It was a good experience.

More important was the price range so I chose them. I call up and submit a claim depending on the time of the day. They get me a technician and reach out to me from there. I've been with them almost half a year now, did four claims and had the situation resolved within 72 hours. They let me pick the technician because he's done work for me in the past. I'm disappointed with AFC Home Club's level of service and responsiveness. I'm deciding whether I should go back to American Home Shield because it doesn't seem like AFC has the appropriate mix of vendors. When I call and log a claim, it takes longer than it used to take when I was with American Home Shield. A few times AFC Home Club told me that they don’t have any vendors in our area to service a particular claim. So I haven’t been happy with it.

They need to expand their network and actually be a home warranty company. I've done a lot of claims before for something that’s not working and they go, “We don’t have anybody.” Then it’s like, “Okay. Well then, you can go out on your own and then we can reimburse you.” Then why did I contract with them? It’s disappointing. I don’t think that they’re as world-class as the experience that we had with American Shield. For a little extra cost, at least we knew that we were getting the service that we were contracting for. It was more valuable in that regard.

Six days ago, I called them to file a claim for my AC unit that placed on the roof, but they said to sending any technician I had to provide my annual maintenance invoice, but I just bought this home two months ago that was my reason to buy the home protection. Anyway fortunately before buying the house I had my inspection report that AC was in a working condition and I got a maintenance invoice form my realtor before closing the deal and I sent it to AFC.

They called and said I need to call Comfort Zone company to get appointment and I did but after suffering 110 degree hot temperature in LA for SIX days they said technician is coming to my home today (Friday 7/29/2016) so I called to confirm with Comfort Zone. After several times calling and almost one hour waiting on the line (I have all document to prove them) they said I need to wait for them to call me but around 4:00 pm I called them to ask "so what happened" and they said AFC gave them wrong number and I need to wait four more days to be rescheduled and suffering hot weather just for technician to check it.

Even they didn't give me a copy of the technician's license to provide to my HOA and it caused me to fight with HOA member, because I had to provide it to them as their policy says. Finally, I called AFC - it was their response "you are more than welcome to call your own technician". I'm still waiting for AFC to call me, I think it takes forever. I have a lot of emails and document about them.

The first time we tried to use the policy for our water heater we had difficulty reaching the company, repeatedly got the message service, and were finally told that since it was 13 years old they "depreciate" the appliance and it's worth nothing. But they would be willing to give us a "good will" gesture in the amount of $150 AFTER we send them a receipt showing we paid for the replacement of our water heater ourselves. Their policy on replacement is NOT explained by the sales people and if you call and ask if they replace appliances they answer "yes", so I believe they are false advertising their service and intend to report to the BBB.

My impressions of dealing with Craig, my "personal representative" is that his job is to sell policies, not to provide service after the sale.

Note that this company says on their website that they are number 1 in all categories and provides a link to this website. But when you follow the link it is to a different company. AFC is no way near number 1 on this review website. AFC is publishing a lie on their website. READ THE FINE PRINT. Example of the fine print: I noticed that they can decline to cover your AC and furnace if you do not pay for annual maintenance service call.

I have never paid to have someone come to my home to tell me that things are ok and charge me for a filter. I just buy my own filters and know when things are not ok. On my last house I bought a new furnace on EBay and replaced it myself. A 2,000 sq ft home, bought a new high efficiency gas furnace for $450 including shipping. If I had hired it, done it, would have cost over $2,000.

I'd give this company a negative review, if possible. On June 5, 2016 I created a claim for my GE gas oven. The oven wouldn't light. No one at AFC called me about the claim, so I called them the following Saturday, June 11. Their answering service took the call and was eventually able to get in touch with someone at AFC who told them they found a repair shop who would be contacting me to set up an appointment.

On the following Monday, June 13, after hearing nothing back from AFC or the repair shop, I called AFC again. The AFC rep gave me the phone number and contact name at the repair shop and told me to call them to arrange an appointment. When I called the shop the contact they gave me said she had never heard of AFC and AFC couldn't have spoken with her because she had been on vacation for 2 weeks. So, I called AFC back and they said they would find another repair shop and call me back with the information. They actually called back and left a message with the number and contact name of another repair shop, so I called the new repair shop, spoke directly with the contact, and again, the contact said he had never heard of AFC and didn't know what I was talking about.

I called AFC back that same evening and they said they would find another repair shop and call me back with the information (sound familiar?). They never called back, so I called again and was told that they would get back to me when they had a new repair shop. Since I had received no call from them on the next day (June 14) at 2:30 in the afternoon to find out what was going on and they gave me the name, number, and contact of latest repair shop. When I called, the repair shop contact had to ask me what appliance I was calling about and how they were going to get paid. She then said she would find out when they were available to do the work and call me back. Well, at least this shop called me back. To say they had no openings. Ever.

Once again, I'm forced to call AFC. I get the answering service. This time, though, no one at AFC calls me back, so I call them today, (June 15). The "Claims Manager" gets on the phone and says she's going to personally find a shop for me. After listening to Phil Collins "Against All Odds" for 20 minutes (again), she tells me they can't find anyone in my area that's willing to work with AFC (I wonder why). She says she found a shop that will do the work, but I'll have to pay the shop and then get AFC to reimburse me. No thanks. I have absolutely no reason to trust this company. I asked for a refund and was told I'd have to send a letter in requesting my contract be canceled. Of course, the amount of my refund will be prorated. What a great deal for AFC. I purchased the contract in September 2015 and this was the first time I'd actually tried to use the service. STAY AWAY!!!
