I have warranties with your company and American Home Shield and I've seriously considered dropping your service because of the problems I've had with your policy concerning leaks. I had a refrigerator that was leaking because of some mechanical problem in the freezer. When I mentioned that the refrigerator was leaking, I am told my warranty doesn't cover leaks. Then when I explained that the leak is most likely caused by a mechanical problem with the refrigerator which should be covered, I am told that a repairman cannot be sent out because my warranty doesn't cover leaks. So frustrating.
I could not get past the circular reasoning of the person on the phone. Because there was a leak, it seemed there was an irrefutable loophole in my coverage. I never experienced such a problem with American Home Shield. I had to make the repair on my own with a private vendor -- the exact thing I am supposed to avoid by paying for your coverage. However, the last time I needed a plumber for my sink which was leaking, you sent someone and it got repaired. I don't see your service as consistently reliable.

I'm a homeowner and I know my appliances are beyond the manufacturer's warranty so I thought it's always good to secure them with a home warranty because they are not covered with the homeowner's insurance. I was going through the internet, Googling the reviews and ratings for cost for most of the providers and AFC seemed to have all good reviews and their cost was reasonable.
I have mixed experiences of both good and not so good, particularly with claim processing. First thing is I know their home warranty starts only 30 days after the payment is made while there are many other home warranties that start later. Second thing is when my microwave broke down, I was shocked when one of their representatives told me that it cannot be covered in the warranty. My microwave's door was locked and it doesn't have a handle. I can't open it without the push button one which means that I cannot use it. Also, the turntable doesn't rotate so it's useless. I was hoping they are going to help me and send a technician to fix it. Somebody did come but he told me the same thing.
Later I had to engage my own technician at my own cost to do a check. The technician gave me a report saying I have to replace the microwave. I approached AFC again informing them about the report of the technician. The representative who was working on my request came back and said the maximum they can give me is $150. I said I've already paid them $100 premium to get the coverage for the microwave because it was not covered in the standard warranty and I paid $120 to the technician. I'm a little disappointed and frustrated with that.
Also, although they reimbursed me for the cost of the technician's service, they could have been more proactive in communicating with me. I have been explicit with them about how old my appliances were and that's why I was taking the home warranty. The salesperson was too good in saying they will cover anything and everything. He also said that they will give me the equivalent cost of my broken appliance but I later found out that aside from not getting the equivalent cost, I also have to haggle around to get something from them.

I had a home warranty from another company and I was having some issues with them. I wanted to experience and see if there was something that was a little easier to work with. I saw AFC Home Club when I was researching online then, I made some calls and I thought that they were what I was looking for. It's been sometimes challenging submitting claims. They're a little bit slow on the response time to questions, concerns and the approval process on work that needs to be done. But the first one wasn't too bad. I had an issue with the air-conditioner and they replaced the capacitor. It wasn't terrible from my end and my interactions with the contractors have been good. But then, we had some additional problems when the work got done. It took a good while to get the check which was a reimbursement check instead of paying for the service upfront. It really dragged out and it was quite a battle. It was somewhat frustrating.

My friend referred America’s First Choice Home Club to me several years ago. Their rep gave me some good choices for warranty on my rental home. I recently filed one claim for a plumbing issue. Their claim process was easy and it went smoothly. I got reimbursed. Their work quality was good as well. Their technician didn’t take too long to fix the plumbing problem. Overall, it is a very good home plan for me as this satisfy my need. They are really reliable, they do what they put in the brochure and it’s good for the money.

Trying to get these people to pay on claims is like pulling teeth... For example I was told when I purchased this insurance that plumbing was covered. When I tried to use it they say they don't cover stoppages or leaks. What else does plumbing do other than stop up or leak? This particular incident was repairing my well. They had to replace something on the well head and it cost 200.00 to pull the well head. They don't cover pulling the well head... They can't get to the part without pulling the well head so out of over 500.00 service call, they claim they are sending me 198.00 that was supposedly mailed on March 6th... This happened in January and I had to pay then and I am still waiting to be reimbursed anything! Horrible and very difficult to deal with. You have to keep calling and emailing to get any answers! I would not recommend them to anyone!

AFC Home Club seemed to be the right value. It wasn't too expensive and it made sense. Having warranty gives a feeling of security that my product is under warranty and then they come and fix it. However, the claim process did not go smoothly. It was lengthy and unpleasant, and calls were not necessarily returned. I had one appliance that's brand new but AFC said they had to make a buyout because of its age. It was unfair. And then it happened to me more than once. The item was a good item and fixable but they insisted on a buyout. I have a perfectly good stove that they bought out and they don't guarantee it anymore. When they made the buyout, it takes about six weeks to get the check. AFC usually sends out a competent serviceman but at the end, I did not feel the security that I've felt when I bought the plan. There's a lot of fine print that I'm unaware of.

It's not fun to be told repeatedly that the issue you are calling about is not covered by your home warranty. We had an Old Republic Warranty previous to choosing AFC and didn't experience this issue. We chose AFC after we were told we could choose our preferred service providers however, after paying out of pocket for approved plumbing repairs it took around 6 weeks to receive the check from AFC. I was told by a service provided that they are paid the day of repair by AFC via credit card.

AFC is not my current home warranty provider. I had AFC at one point in time, and my experience with them is very mixed and varied. When I had them I didn't have the best experience with the point of coverage, the time to respond and ease of getting claims. They took a long time to respond. There are some things that I was told that was not covered right off the bat when it was not clear on the original contract.
Submitting a claim was quite frustrating. Some of the claims were easy to process. It just depended up on your luck and who was on the other side. I had a sink break down once and it was handled by a property manager. It took about 10 to 15 days for somebody to come and check it. The tenant had just stopped using the sink in the meantime. Once they came and checked it, it was ascribed to something. I had to pay for the whole coverage. The whole process took more than a month and it just left a bad taste.
My experience on getting reimbursement for any money I spent on claims was very mixed too. There was one incident I was not reimbursed at all and other things were more clear. I find it not very good that it took over two weeks for somebody to come and see something and another two to three weeks after that even to respond back to a claim.

Submitting a claim with AFC Home Club was really time-consuming. I made a claim for a dryer and it took them a month and a half to pay me back. The technicians who came out to answer the service call told me they couldn't repair the dryer right away. They had to call AFC and clear with them before they repaired it and I didn't understand that. They began the repair at first then they told me I had to call them back again. That's when I bought a new one. Moreover, AFC didn't fully reimburse me because they said my dryer was too old.

My wife and I signed up for your warranty on 2/28/2017. They were to take $100 out of my account and it never happened. I did receive two welcome emails from the company. I called back to find out why the money has not been taken out of the account and I am not getting any answers. They cannot find me in the system. This should not happen to a new customer.

I always had a home warranty with Sears and it had run out. I needed to be sure things in the house were taken care of because I don't have anyone. I read online that AFC Home Club was rated topnotch. They were recommended so highly and were supposed to be so good. I thought maybe they would be the good choice and their warranty covered everything. That's what I want and kind of need. The claims reps were very nice and helpful. However, I have to pay them so much to start with. And when I'm paying, it's premium price, and I've paid around $1200 for three years. Then when I call them to have a tech come over, I have to pay $60 or $80 for them to come. It runs pretty high compared to what I had previously with Sears and they were very good. But I'm satisfied with AFC and have no complaint against them.
I just had a claim a few weeks ago with my thermostat. I would set it at 70, keep it at that for a day then it dropped down to 62 or 63 all by itself without anyone touching it. This went on for some time and I had my son who is an electrical engineer and consultant install another one. The thermostat did the same thing so I called AFC. The tech who came over looked around and told me he couldn't find anything wrong. He said the only thing wrong with my furnace was that I didn't bleed my radiator. I have the baseboard system and I thought bleeding the radiator has nothing to do with the thermostat. What he told me was strange and didn't sound reasonable. And that was my bad feeling.
Two days later, the temperature dropped down again so I called AFC. The rep told me to call the tech back and gave me his number. I did call him but I never heard anything from him again. That made me a little annoyed so I didn't bother to do anything more with him. I figured I would get someone else. When I did, they said it was actually the way the thermostat had been set that caused it and I haven't had any problem since.

I don't have any good experience with America's First Choice Home Club. I have three properties from three zip codes. I was trying to get them covered and AFC Home Club were the only ones that said that they could cover all three. However, they didn't have service providers for one of the properties that they said they did and I feel like they misrepresented that they could cover the area. The whole idea that I could use anyone that I had if they couldn't find someone, the problem is no one will work with them. So it's a problem on top of a problem on top of a problem. So this week, I sent in a letter to cancel the policy on that property. I also had a claim on my other property and I was told they didn't cover the fixture on the outside of the house. So I haven't had any successful claim with AFC Home Club.

I own a rental property, and having a home warranty will be an easy way to deal with all the maintenance issues. I then got AFC Home Club because of the price and everything that they said they covered. But even though I picked them based on everything they covered, their website makes me believe everything is covered, yet on two out of the three times I've tried to file a claim with them, they've come back with reasons why something wasn't covered, to include simple things as the faucet, the kitchen sink, and the heating system. So two out of three times trying to get claims done has been a nightmare. When I submit a claim over the phone, the rep is usually hostile. In every conversation, I got the sense "you should've known that", "you should've known better than that", or "that's not our problem".
Also, one of the sort of sales pitches they made was in addition to all the coverage, there's a $25 restaurants.com gift card every month when I pay my bill yet I never received one. And I've been with them for about a year now. Every time I have called them about that, I got the runaround. I need to go online and print out a form, mail it in, and call this person. Bottom line, they were just lying about it. So I regret taking AFC Home Club. I probably won't renew when my policy's up. I would rather pick a different company next time.

I always keep a home warranty for my rental property and I got AFC Home Club because of a good deal. I spoke with someone on the phone for purchase and it went easy and there were no issues. I have two properties so I have three payments for three years on one property and then I had the down payment and a monthly payment on the other one. Submitting a claim was good and I do it on the phone. Overall, AFC Home Club is easy to deal with.

I like to have a home warranty and AFC Home Club had a pretty good price. I filed a claim for my water heater and their process is pretty easy. I like that they have a 24/7 service, and they were very professional and prompt. They gave me the name of the local contractor. From there, I interacted with the contractor who was pretty quick and clean. We paid to him our assisted dollar deductible and the water heater is now working.
On the other hand, I don't like that the policy has a little bit more exclusions than what it appears to be and a little bit too many requirements for the homeowners. For example, for them to pick up any repair for the heating system, they would like me to have annual maintenance and records of annual maintenance of my HVAC. My HVAC system breaks down and I don't have the most recent annual check of the HVAC system and they deny coverage. That's not a typical requirement in a home owner's policy and are the little things like that that may not compromise. Other than that, I have had pretty positive experience.

I was with another company last year and I was looking for another warranty company. I looked online and AFC Home Club was rated fairly well, so I switched to them. I've submitted a couple of claims recently. My first claim for the repair of my dishwasher didn't go as well as I would have liked. The lady claims rep called me back and said that because of the physical condition of my dishwasher, what was damaged wasn't going to be covered by my warranty. I took exception to that because my dishwasher was not that old and its physical condition seemed perfect to me. I had also asked another technician what he thought of the condition of that dishwasher, and it looked normal to him, too.
So, I questioned the report of the technician that came out, whether he took time enough to actually look at the dishwasher or just wrote off that he couldn't repair it. I explained that to the lady claims rep and she said, "Sorry, but according to the technician we're not gonna cover it." She also said that the technician reported that the problem was with the control board. I asked her, "How is it possible he knew it was the control board when he never did a diagnostic?" He came out with a pencil and a paper, and he looked at the tag. He never said anything to me. Then he reported back to the warranty company that the problem was with the control board and that the physical condition of the dishwasher wouldn't allow him to fix it.
I tried to keep my cool, but the lady claims rep and I got to a discussion. I ended up talking to her manager, who told me the same thing. So, as a result, I ended up buying a new dishwasher. The old one is still in my garage. That was my first experience with AFC, and it wasn't very good. I truly didn't appreciate it because I don't think the technician did his due in trying to fix the dishwasher.
Thus far, I've only had two experiences in filing claims with AFC -- one bad one, one good one. In general, the claims are easy to file, although my first claim turned out to be difficult. Since then, I've had another experience in submitting a claim with AFC for an issue with my dryer, and that claim went well and the interaction I had with the claims rep then was fine. I would still recommend AFC because I don't think my bad experience was their fault. Overall, I had a good experience with AFC Home Club.

We usually carry a home warranty and AFC’s prices were more reasonable but we’re not satisfied with the service. There's always a delay in being able to get to customer service. Every time we call in for a service call for the house, it takes days before they ever call anybody and days before you get a call back from the firm. It has been very consistent. I don't like that they're not available on weekends and get an answering service. But whenever we do talk to them, they are pleasant, and the technicians that came had been okay for the most part. But follow through doesn't always happen as they say.
Also, I had an occasion where I wanted to add a free standing hot tub onto my service. The fee was $200 to cover and when I made the first claim, they asked how old it was and took the information in. They said, "I'm sorry. It's depreciated value and we really can't cover that." It was a pump that went out, and it was just a week ago that I purchased the coverage on the hot tub. It would have been nice if they would ask the age of the unit and inform me that it's depreciated over 60% of its value and that they wouldn't have covered it. The technician's fee was $500 including the pump and installation. AFC was going to give me $150 for it. So, I pulled the pump out and had it repaired myself which did barely cover the rebuilding of the motor.

I was purchasing an older home and went with America's First Choice Home Club for their positive reviews and their cost. Their claims process was very easy. I made contact, they provided me a service provider, got a call back from the service provider, and set up the appointment. A call was made as well to confirm that the work was done. On a claim with them, the service provider did hold up their end but they did come back and corrected their work. After they got the second repair done, it's been good so far. One thing, though, was I'm new to the area and I didn't know who to use for different services. I asked the service provider to do work outside of warranty for me and that was the only thing they were unsure how to set up, that they could treat me as a separate customer and not just a customer of America's First.
America's First is the second company that I had gone with and they took care of stuff when something went wrong. With the other company I was with, I found I was fighting and screaming in lots of phone calls to get stuff corrected. It's nice to know that with America's First everybody was on board and wanted to resolve the issue for me. I was a little confused, though, regarding the person I had my purchase contact with and then fighting over to making claims. I was told that that person was my contact but I have never heard from him again. But when I used the 1-800 number of America's First to make my claims, I got the service satisfied so I'm happy.

We have a salt pool and we have problems with its chlorine navigator that we've had to replace every now and then. Other companies do not cover it but AFC does, and they had a better price too. We simply talked to the sales rep over the phone a couple of times and then we made our decision. I had two valves on the pool that were leaking. We filed a claim and it's easy. The repairman came by, fixed the seals and wanted to replace the other one. I'm satisfied with the repair and I don't have any problem anymore. We had another warranty company before AFC. Their technicians weren't very professional and weren't upfront. They only wanted their fee before they started looking at the problem. I'm very satisfied with AFC.

The warranty on a couple of items that we have in the house was about to be extinguished and I found that America's First Choice seem to have more for less. The first time I submitted a claim went through very nicely. The stove broke down around the first week of January and needed repairs which went pretty well. But the second one was a mess. It took a couple of weeks for them even to get around to responding. The process was very difficult and I came very close to calling the Better Business Bureau. They got the problem wrong and then they told me they couldn't find an electrician in this area that would deal with them. But when we signed up for this, they told us that they had technicians in our area, otherwise I would not have signed up for them.
After several emails back and forth in which Angie was extremely rude, somebody finally called and she had a very nice voice. She said that they've gotten it all set up and that was nice. Also, the technician who came in from Eagle was just great and he didn't charge us or anybody for the minor thing that had gone wrong. I didn't like the last home warranty that I had so I was in the market for another. When I called AFC Home Club, I spoke to a very informative salesperson. I liked her a lot and decided to sign up with them. We did submit a claim not too long ago when our circuit breaker went out and the process was very easy. I had several phone calls and the people there were very congenial and made it user-friendly to deal with them. They walked me through the process and got the claim done. They recommended a technician and though he came out twice because he didn't fix the issue the first time, he got the job done and was very professional. He was very accommodating and stayed in contact with me. He texted me constantly. He did a great work and I have no complaints. Our house could have burned down so it was a severe the problem. He was able to take care of it the very next day once AFC Home Club agreed to get it fixed.
The experience itself was good but I thought the coverage was not as good as I had hoped it would be. Wear and tear isn't covered. Also, when I purchased the warranty, no one told me that I had to have my air conditioning and heating system inspected every six months. I found that out accidentally after I was talking to somebody about this other claim. So, since then I have had it inspected. Their sales people really need to stress that about the air conditioning and heating systems because that's a big item. I would have been in a bad mess if I had needed help with the heater and air conditioner. Nevertheless, I would recommend AFC Home Club. They handled my claim very well and very efficiently. They took care of their portion. I wish they had paid more but that's okay. I had no problem and everything was resolved within about 12 days. They were great and very professional.

I'm a first-time homeowner and my realtor recommended to have a home warranty when we purchased our home. America's First Choice Home Club was rated in the top ten home warranty companies in America and their cost was reasonable so we went with them. Submitting a claim is easy enough through their phone help desk and their reps they were helpful. It was a good experience.
However, the service has not been the greatest with getting a claim service. For whatever reason, they say they cover certain aspects of the home warranty and no local service companies are willing to partner with them. This was the first time that I ran into this kind of problem with a home warranty. The previous home warranty that I had made partnerships with local service technicians so that if I made a claim, I was guaranteed that a service company was going to come out. But with this AFC, I had to pay out of pocket for coverage services and then get a reimbursement from the home warranty.
When users purchase a home warranty, they're paying to have that no headache/hassle of having something repaired in the home. But AFC made it more of a hassle/a headache process. I had to have the technician at my house and call AFC. We're getting charged by the minute for this. AFC was going to reimburse for all these, but it was a lot of hoops to jump through just to get a somewhat simple thing repaired. The quality of work was good, though. But it wasn't a real pleasant experience. Once my contract is up for renewal, I am pretty sure I will not renew with AFC.

I thought that America's First Choice Home Club is the best company I'd ever find. Their rep said I could bring my own person to do a repair and they'd pay for it. I've got them for my home in California, for my son's home, and the home in Denver. But anything that happened to my house, even something that normally each home guarantee paid, they didn’t pay. I'm not happy with them at all and I don’t recommend anybody to get them. People should not trust whatever AFC Home Club says.
Their rep told me I have a coverage of $1,500 for the air conditioning or heating system, but they only pay $150. After I proved to them that I had them under maintenance, they said the system is old. For every single item, they bring their excuse. If I buy a brand new stuff, I don't think I'm gonna get guarantee for it. The refrigerator is brand new but the icemaker doesn’t work. They said the icemaker is not included. Right now, my garage door system doesn’t work good, but they came and said they don't cover. And they even keep asking me to send a report. I was charged 180 to send the report, but they don’t even pay me for it. That’s why I cancelled and my son cancelled, too. And I told a couple of my friends who I told to get it to cancel it because they don’t pay anything for anything I call. AFC Home Club has to be honest and say upfront the way they cover and the way they pay. They should not be lying to people.

AFC Home Club had a promotion going on at the time that I was looking for a home warranty provider. Their deductible was a little lower than the previous one I had as well. I've submitted about three claims and the process was easy. I only had an issue with one of them which was more of a miscommunication. The first couple of technicians that I had were good. But the last claim, I had to dispute the charge with the contractor. They charged for work that they didn’t do. And AFC was good initially with reaching out to the contractor to come back out the next day which they did. AFC requested that he speak with them while he was on a site, but he refused to. He was hours and hours late from the appointment time. He stayed for 5 to 10 minutes and said he had to get to another appointment and he will be back, but he never came back.
So I had to end up getting an independent contractor to service the issue, and I paid with them. The initial contractor tried to fight the dispute, so I had to send more information about the other company that came after them that provided the work. So hopefully, that'll be finalized soon. But other than that, the other contractors have been great and AFC has been helpful to get me through that experience with that horrible contractor.

Then finally, I called AFC and they told me that the technician canceled the claim. They told me that I called the technician and canceled the claim, I said that never happened.
I called AFC the second time and they said, "Okay" and they gave me the same guy. He never called me. I don't know if the technician is a jerk. I called back AFC and I said, "Hey, send me somebody else." They eventually sent me somebody else and got the thing fixed. Once the guy got here, it was a five-minute thing. The person I was dealing with at AFC was terrific. I sent in a survey and I mentioned her name specifically.

Updated on 05/23/2019: Their reps and technicians of America's First have been good. But I kinda have an issue with the warranty coverage because when my washing machine went haywire, America's First only gave me 150 bucks towards a new one. I have no idea where you can find a store that sells washers for 150 bucks. It was a very old washer so I understand they prorated it because of that. But I had to come up with an additional $300 so I could get a washing machine.
Just last month, I had America's First replaced my pool pump motor because I pay extra for pool coverage. The new pool pump motor was $1,600 and they gave me $500 towards that. I had to pay $1,100 and I just dealt with it. Once again, the other pool pump was 15 years old so America's First says, “Your stuff is really old, so we’re only gonna give you a part.”
When I first bought the plan, my understanding was if something goes out, they would pay or fix it. But they don’t really, they pay a portion. They don’t tell you that and you have to read the really small, fine print to figure that out. But that's still better than not getting anything at all. When I did the pool pump motor, I had to upgrade per California State law. The technicians could’ve fixed my old motor and just put new bearings in it. But I was forced to upgrade and that’s another reason why it was so expensive. The technicians were just following California law.
Original Review: I was told accounting was going to send me a check for $150.00, in lieu of repairing my old washer, I was told it would be 2 to 4 weeks to receive it, after over a month I called and was told it would be a few days, after another 2 weeks I called and asked to speak to a mgr. and she apologized and said it would be sent out right away. I'm wondering, if I would have never called back would they even have sent it??? Still waiting for it!!!

I decided to go for AFC Home Club for my rental property primarily because of the price, both the deductible and the fact that I could pay for three years in advance. I've been a little disappointed that I didn't know certain things and it's probably because I didn't read the rules. Like the fact that you're limited to a $130 for the first 90 days. It would have been nice to know upfront. And also, I didn't know there was a limit to certain things within the first 90 days.
I had a problem with the dryer and oven and I had to make a decision on which one to repair. So, that was unfortunate situation. I couldn't repair everything that needed repair. There was a limit and I'm not sure what happens after that 90-day period. I hope everything is covered at that point. I had the dryer fixed but I had to get somebody else for the stove. However, the people I've spoken with have been very nice, very, very considerate and actually very understanding on the situation and they took the time to explain what I didn't understand. I would recommend it to a friend. I would do it with the knowledge that I know now. In fact, I'm thinking about changing companies when American Home Shield is up on my house.

When I signed up for the warranty the salesman "assured" me that after the first 30 days waiting period, all my equipment would be covered under the warranty with NO caveats. However, that's not true, I had my Dishwasher broke 45 days after signing up and when I call for a service, they say that I am still in another 30 days waiting period during which I am only covered $150 and the rest will be out of my pocket... absurd! If they had it in their policy, the sales rep should have clearly explained or at least when I specifically asked about any caveats after the first 30 day waiting period he should have had the courtesy of telling me upfront. I am extremely disappointed at this unprofessional behavior just to get another customer, in fact, they are losing a customer for lifetime... and of course I wouldn't recommend this to my friends or family!

I was given a great sales pitch about this company and the services it provides. However, you better read the fine print of your contract. Anything item older than 5 years is considered fully depreciated (no value) and AFC decides how much they will pay you for the repair or replacement, if anything. After I argued with them over a replacement of an electric cooktop they finally gave me 50% of what it was worth. Then it took another 5 weeks to get a check from them.

Kristen is one of the best people I ever talked to on the phone. I signed up with AFC Home Club because of her. The people at AFC were amazing and everybody I talked to was great. But there's a major flaw with the company, so I'm gonna be separating from them. When I first got my home, it came with a different home warranty and when the gas range broke, they gave me money and told me to go buy a new one and there were no questions asked. So I thought that’s how home warranties all work, but when I switched to AFC Home Club I found out the hard way that it wasn’t.
AFC's claims process was easy. However when you need a new appliance because yours have failed, they offer you a replacement value of what it's worth currently rather than just flat out replacement value. And it's written pretty smooth. You really don’t notice it until you do a claim. I went back and read my contract and I can pick out now where they're saying they're gonna pay me for what my old, crappy washing machine really is worth and not with a new replacement washing machine. That doesn’t work for me.
In addition to that, the technician didn’t know what was going on. His company I guess just relay to him that it was an insurance claim. He got so frustrated with all the phone calls he had to make. He didn’t even verify that the equipment was operational before he left. We had to call him out again because it wasn’t fixed at all. So that’s when he said, “Oh yeah. You also need a motor.” So here now we're down two weeks and they sent the same guy back. That’s okay but I wish they hadn’t because he was so ** to my wife.

I bought a new home and looked up several different home club companies to evaluate so I found AFC Home Club to be the one that I was interested in working with. The person that I spoke to to get it set up provided me with a lot of information. Unfortunately, it was a really good pitch and the information didn’t really hold true. I was told the pool, pumps, ceiling fans and everything will be covered but that's not the case at all.
I completely divulged that we have a geothermal system. I come to find out that they only cover a portion of that. Also, they were quite nasty to me on the phone and it took five days to get an answer from them. I have two homes that are on AFC and I won't use them again. My property manager said they're horrible and one of the technicians that came out to fix the problem told me he was told by the company to try as much as he could to deny the claim that it would be covered. And I thought “Isn't that awful?”
It's so interesting because when they denied it, I had my geothermal guy look at it and he said that it's absolutely covered. He explained to me that they're talking about what's in the ground versus what's mechanical. He was very clear to say that whoever is making a determination doesn't understand what geothermal is, so AFC Home Club is having people who make determinations with no basis or understanding of what it is, and that’s not the way to run a business.

I'm dissatisfied with America’s First Choice Home Club's service. I spoke with a sales rep and asked some questions to make sure that I had certain things that were covered, and I was assured they were. So when I had my first call in and then I'm told it wasn’t covered, I said, “When I purchased it, I made sure to ask about this.” They said, “If you look at line 11, it shows that it's not covered.” Okay, that was fine. Then I had another call in for an AC issue and same thing. They're telling me, “It's not gonna be covered unless you’ve had it inspected recently.” I told them “In our area, we only service our air conditioners once a year, and I haven’t had it inspected since it's a brand new unit. So why are you asking me for a record if I haven’t had to do that yet?” And so therefore, they said, “That’s standard procedure. That’s the way it works.” I'm in the process of contacting them to get a full refund back.

Being with AFC is the first time I've been with a home warranty program. So, it's a learning curve for me. It's been a very difficult process because I have to fight for everything. When I got the packet after I signed up, it stated the items that were covered and were not. I've had some refrigerator repairs that weren't on the not covered list but they weren't on the covered list either. We called out a repairman, had it repaired, submit a claim and they said "Oh. This isn't covered." We went back and forth on that because it doesn't say it's not covered. And then they said, "Well, that's on our master list."
So, I finally got a master list of all the exclusions which is very long. Then we had an issue with the water line and water was leaking in the back. We have to replace the water line, and it was not on the exclusion list. So we put in the claim, and they said, "Well, the icemaker is not covered." But the icemaker is totally separate. It's a whole different water line but they said, "Well, that's part of the icemaker line anyway." And we also had one repair with our washing machine and they said, "We can't cover it because there's a maximum amount we spend on each product." That wasn't disclosed upfront and it was upsetting. We ended up replacing the appliance but my payout was nowhere near its value. It was prorated down to less than a $100. It took us $700 to replace. And they didn't disclose the prorating value.
This may be the protocol for this type of warranty, and I understand where they're coming from too. But I'm the type of person where if I have a high chair that something breaks on it, I go online, get the replacement part and fix it. And I stretch things along. And then, I had something go wrong with the heater and called in the repair. But they wouldn't cover it up because I couldn't take and produce that I've had regular maintenance on it. So you think you're covered and come to find out that you're not. Every experience has not been good so far. I would not recommend AFC Home Club.

When I submitted my first claim, they indicated that my actual unit wasn't covered under the warranty which is why I ended up canceling because I went for about a year and a half and nothing was covered. I didn't know that until my first claim but they're willing to work with me and pay half of whatever the claim would be. But I figured not having any coverage for that was a good reason to cancel since that's what I needed it for. We were able to use our own technician so that's always a positive. There were a couple of times that we had to get the technician to come back but it wasn't really an issue. It was just the miscommunication at the beginning and it didn't work out.

AFC Home Club looked like they had a lot to offer and did their claims fairly quick. However, submitting claims with them have not been great and we experienced difficulties. I put the dishwasher on at night, woke up one morning and there was water all over the place so I shut the water off for the dishwasher. That day, I called AFC up to tell them that there was a problem with the dishwasher. They said they would call me back. A couple of days went by, I called and they said they had a hard time finding someone in my area that services the dishwasher that works with them.
When they finally found someone, we made the appointment. The guy came down, looked at it, and said it was because of some part in there. The guy had already been there waiting and they never called back. So, the guy left and charged me $100 and then AFC called me and said that it's not on the warranty because it was an existing problem. I said, "How can it be an existing problem if it just started leaking?" They went back and forth and the woman said that I'll have to take care of it myself and I said, "This is wrong." So, I spoke to someone else.
After another week, what they decided to do is I have to take pictures of it and send it because I said that it has damaged my cabinets. When they spoke to the company that came out and looked at it, they said that the cabinet was destroyed. I clarified that the cabinet was not destroyed. It's just water damaged from the water sitting there and absorbed up through the wood. They didn't want to pay for the damage on that. They said they would give me $150 to fix the damage. I said that I can get a new dishwasher for $400. They told me that I can get a new dishwasher if I want and they will reimburse $150 for it. In the end, my cabinet didn't get fixed and I got a new dishwasher, which I had to pay for. I just got a $150 check from the mail. I'm not going to cancel my warranty but now I'm nervous to file a new claim. At this point right now, because of them not calling back and me having to keep calling them, I wouldn't recommend this warranty company.

I had a bad experience with the other company that I had so when my year ran out, I got online and asked for the best home warranties. AFC was either second or third on the list and I did a small research on the top two or three. I liked what I saw in AFC and when I talked to the first rep, I liked the whole three-year program and paying for it in eleven or however many months I signed up for.
The claims process was more on the easy side and was pretty straightforward. I ended up calling late on a Friday night and the rep said that it was going to go into the messages for Monday. Then I called back pretty early on Monday because the issue was becoming more urgent the longer it went on. I was told by the rep that the first contractor didn't want to do it. I was able to find a repairman locally and he and AFC's rep were able to work it out where they all went down as planned. Once that was settled, then everything went well. The repairman told me he wasn't crazy about working with home warranty companies, but he found his experience with AFC to be a good one.
I was very satisfied with the experience, but AFC should have longer hours on Friday nights in order to get the process going sooner because it had only dawned on me about 30 minutes after they closed that I needed to call them. I've mentioned to several other people that if anybody wants to look into AFC, I'd be more than happy to put them on.

We were with American Home Shield before, but when we bought our home here, we were given different warranty choices. We had heard a lot of bad things about American Home Shield, so we thought we'd try AFC Home Club. When we first started with them, I didn't think I was going to like them at all. My experience with them was very bad and I was ready to cancel with them. When we filed a claim for our water heater, the rep that I talked to was very rude. And because AFC has a 30-day waiting period, and we haven't had the heater for 30 days yet, they didn’t cover it. So we ended up replacing our water heater anyway and we paid for it.
When we had a small leak in one of our pipes in the wall, I decided to take the chance to file another claim and see how it would go. When I called AFC, their rep asked to send them the paperwork, which I did because we had to get somebody out immediately since the leak was doing damage to our floors. The transition went pretty smooth that time. The rep also said we will be getting a check for the labor only minus the $60, which I understood since they don't cover any damage that's done. I called back to follow up with them and asked when we were getting a check, and she said we should get it in six weeks, which I guess is normal. That's the first claim we've really ever had and though they're not the best, everything went okay.
I'm hoping that we made the right choice going with AFC because I'm sure this won't be the last time we will be using them for problems with our 25-year-old home. It's bad enough having the issue so we hope we don't have to deal with somebody on the phone who can't give the proper information and doesn't seem like they’re happy doing their job.

However, when we signed up, they refused to cover a lot of stuff that they technically should be covering, so I'm not too thrilled with them. They knew my house was around eight years old, but they had a problem covering everything because the appliances are so many years old. We just moved in four years ago, so it's not like we've been using them that long, and they already knew that when I took the coverage. They cannot deny me coverage as the whole point of me having an insurance is so that I get the coverage when I need it. I've already had issues because I bought the house with all the GE appliances and it kind of defeats the purpose if they're going to say no to a lot of things. The first claim we had with AFC went all right. We had two things go bad at about the same time. The first one was the furnace and the guy who came out said that all it was was the thermostat. So we live with what we got at the moment and see if it keeps going but we seem to have problems off and on. We had this house checked out and when I called the people who put the furnace in, they noticed something fishy going on. They said the furnace was put in 2012 and this furnace is a 2009 and that they put in this other type of brand. Things weren't matching up with the seller. I got a feeling he changed out the furnace and put something that was used and that's why we're having all these issues. But that's not on AFC.
And then the second one was a disaster. The electrician AFC picked out took advantage of the whole thing and I got screwed on that. My friend said he would come and try to fix it for me. But I felt that if I don't go through that electrician to get it done, and if something else goes wrong, then I'm going to be in trouble with AFC or they won't do it. The electrician fixed it and when I got the bill, it cost me $1,000. AFC didn't pay anything more than $11 against it.
I'm not happy with the electrician. He kept complaining and suggested a remote control light switch. But when I asked him how it works, he said he didn't know. Then, there's a light that sat on a pole in the backyard and I asked how much it will cost to have it wired up. He said he'll make a good deal on it but never said anything more about it.
Also, dealing with the home warranty program has been hard for me. But it's my fault because I didn't read everything as well. It wasn't explained to me properly and I felt it was glossed over me in some ways. It still would have cost me the money but at least it wouldn't be a shocker. It's okay that I cover the on/off switch for the water because that's only cosmetic, but when you get inside the gut of where the pipes are coming into with the sink hose into the bathtub, those are supposed to be covered because you don't change them out every ten years, only when they break. A claims rep told me something isn't covered. I told her I really feel it is covered and maybe we can go back and talk to somebody. We got on the same page and figured out it was covered. And when the computer in my dishwasher went out shortly after I bought the house, I inadvertently said it went out a week ago instead of 5 days ago, so they disallowed it because of the waiting period. I have been planning for a couple of months now that I will switch to another company when my term is up, but now I am so frustrated that I'm looking into whether I can get a partial refund if I switch companies before then.

When I first bought my home, the home warranty was in the contract. I liked having it and wanted to keep it going, but the company I was with then was getting too expensive. I searched around on the internet for another home warranty company, and that's how I found AFC Home Club. So far, we've only had to submit a claim to them once or twice and it was pretty easy. The technician was fine. He talked to me and gave me all the information that I needed. After he looked at my dryer, he recommended that I needed a new one.

I went with AFC Home Club for the price and the reviews for some of the bigger carriers didn't sound as good. The claim submission was pretty easy. The only challenge I had initially was there's no 24-hour service. I dealt with an answering service one time and didn't realize that. I thought I had submitted a claim, but I hadn't. But other than that, it's really easy. I call the 800 number and that's all there is to it. Their reps are always very courteous. If they didn't know an answer, they actually researched it and got back to me. There's one individual that I've worked with on two different occasions and she's wonderful because she's very knowledgeable. I've had some questions about coverage, and the people have always been very helpful in making me understand what's covered and what's not.
I've had techs from both ends of the spectrum. I've had one that was very good and it was when I had my dryer repaired. He told me everything that he was doing as well as what's probably going to go wrong next with my washing machine. He basically said there's nothing to do until it breaks, but it was good for him to inform me of that. On the other hand, I had a claim once with the garage door opener and the guy that they dispatched, first, asked to borrow my tools when he got there. And then second, from some of the conversation he was having with me, I could tell he was very new at the job and it was like he was trying to pick up some extra cash. I ended up having a different company do the work on the garage door and recommended that they don't use this guy anymore because he didn't seem to know what he was doing at all.
What I learned from that process was that as long as I submitted the claim, I could use whomever I wanted and then submit the receipts afterwards. I didn't know that. I thought I always had to use one of AFC's providers. But as long as I submit a claim first, I can call up and say, "Hey, I have a garage door opener that needs to be replaced. I'm going to use my guy because he lives next door to me," which was exactly what I did. There was a certain amount that they covered and I had to pay some of it on my own, but that was more in nature of how old the garage door opener was, not who's fixing it.

I went online to look for a home warranty company when I was buying this house and AFC Home Club was either number two or number one. There was also a good recommendation for them. When I submitted a claim for my garbage disposal, they were easy to work with. The rep asked me for the garbage disposal's certification and I gave it to her. She said they were going to send the replacement and it came within a week or so. Though I had to get somebody to install it because they said they don't install, it was a very good experience with AFC Home Club. I have a working garbage disposal now.

When submitting a claim to AFC, I call their toll-free number and speak to a rep who takes the information, sets up the service call and gives me the results. I had my dishwasher fixed and the technicians were great. I submitted another claim for our HVAC based on the findings from a company that I had hired myself to come out and do the cleaning and evaluation. The warranty company paid part of the claim based on the results from that seasonal check-up, which is nice that we didn't have to pay somebody to come out again.
However, I was disappointed with the way AFC handled my HVAC repair. I got stuck in the fine print of what they do and don't cover. I would have liked to have more work done on my unit than what was actually done. I found out after I submitted this recent claim that they would no longer cover my HVAC system because it's 12 years old, which I would have liked to have figured out before I renewed because that's the whole reason why I got the warranty in the first place. It's nice to be covered in other areas too, but I really wanted it for the HVAC and they're not going to cover it anymore. Also, since I'm a real estate agent, I tried to get some information so that I could refer a client to AFC, and I was a little disappointed with my account manager's lack of response and I could never get him to follow through or follow up.

We called about a compressor on an air conditioner, a garbage disposal, a leak in the wall, and they went, "Let's go to the fine print", and we found out all those weren't covered. We assumed it was a typical home warranty, but it turned out to be a typical home warranty that tries very hard not to cover anything.

I filed a complaint on AFC Home Club with the Better Business Bureau a year ago in February and it wasn't because of the service. It was because of their sales practices. When I was searching for a new home warranty company, I specifically told their salesman what and why I needed it and to get the best value for my money. However, he never said anything about the fact that the coverage would be pro-rated based on the appliances or the item's age. I repeatedly asked him about replacement value and that would have been an opportunity for him to have been completely honest but he flat out lied to me.
I called them when my hot water heater went out and the lady asked me about the serial number. Then she said since it was manufactured in 2004 they can only give me $100. I told her the sales guy told me that they would give me up to $2,500 per appliance, and she said it's right in my contract that it's based on the item's age. It's in the small print so consumer beware.
I told her I will not take that money, I want more and that the salesman lied to me. What if my air conditioner goes? A whole home furnace air conditioning system is expensive and it can run from $15,000 to $20,000. She said they will give me up to $2,500 to replace the system and they will provide me with a company that will sell wholesale, not retail. They sent a guy out for the hot water heater and the company charged me $1,300 for it. I was livid but I needed it. So I called them back and I asked if that was wholesale. The rep then proceeded to tell me that I could go to Home Depot and buy a cheap one for $400. They did give me $300 but I still had to shell out $1,000 out of my pocket.
Then when my washing machine broke, the guy said the bearing hub went out. I looked in the contract and it's covered but the warranty company called me back and said they're not covering it. I asked why and they said the coverage doesn't include the tub. I wound up having to shell out almost $250 out of my pocket because they would only cover $300 out of the $500 bill.
Then my garbage disposal went out and they said they're not going to even send a technician out because garbage disposals are easier to replace than fix. Then the rep asked me if I wanted to go to Home Depot to get one, mail them the receipt and they'll reimburse me, or do I want them to send me one for free. I chose the latter. Then she informed me that they don't pay for the installation which I told her would not do me any good. Also, when the appliance came, it didn't come with a plug. So I had to pay extra for the plumber to come out, put the new garbage disposal in and install a plug on the unit. It's terrible!
The salesman also told me that there was a cap on the coverage which is about $7,500 a year and he lied about that too! I found out when I read the fine print. I cannot wait until this contract is up because I will go with someone else. I've had nothing but trouble with them and I will not stay with them. Unfortunately, they gave me a deal where if I paid for three years upfront it would be a lot cheaper. I paid for the "lot cheaper" and now I'm stuck. I'm very dissatisfied with my experience and I would not recommend this company to anybody.

We had been with American Home Shield before. When it was time for renewal, they tripled our premium so I didn't renew them. I looked for another company. Next in the list of warranty companies that came up, number two was America's 1st Choice Home Club - the one I have now. I had two bad experiences with them. One happened when our water heater burst and it ends up being a really bad deal because it came through the kitchen ceiling. We had to get our hardwoods and drywall replaced.
I called the warranty company about the water heater and without even sending anybody out, she told me it wasn't going to be covered over the phone. So we ended up having to pay $3700 dollars to get two water heaters. Even though one didn't break, we decided, because of the age, go ahead and get another one. And then in the middle of all our renovations, the AC went out. It's been a very expensive year. It took a long time to get them to do anything. I had to submit all kinds of paperwork and everything else. They said because of the age of the air-conditioner. We paid $5200, they gave us $350. Is it only gonna cover brand-new stuff? We've had two major things that cost us about $9000 and we got $350 out of it.
And because they're in Georgia, they usually can't get a technician or somebody out for a couple of days. And a lot of these things are usually urgent repairs. So you end up having to call your own technician, which is fine and supposedly, they reimburse you. But I feel like they're always looking for a way not to cover something and I'm not impressed at all.

Given my experience, getting a home warranty has been helpful as we purchased a new home. AFC Home Club's rates were competitive and they seemed to allow a lot of flexibility in the provider that we use. We've submitted a couple of claims. One of the claims went really well and smooth. The other claim, however, the contractor they suggested wasn't very timely in returning phone calls. AFC was fast in getting me hooked up with that contractor, but the communication with them was hard. I brought it to AFC's attention, and then the contractor called right away. We set an appointment, but then they didn't show again. In addition, there was one issue where our appliance was old and AFC Home Club depreciated it completely. They paid just a portion of the repair cost versus a total repair cost and that wasn't very clear to me. The repair was $250 but they fully depreciated that at $125, so I was responsible for the other $125.

Some of them don't seem highly trained even though I know that AFC Home Club uses licensed contractors. We had an issue with our fridge and the first contractor was very rude and didn't seem like he knew what he was doing. We had to call and get another contractor to come out and then he was able to fix the problem. But we had to call a third one out. We were told that we didn't have to pay the $60 deductible because that will be transferred from the last one but the third contractor said that if we're not gonna pay him, he'd be leaving, which he did. Other than that, it's been a fairly simple experience and I'm still pleased overall with AFC Home Club.

The philosophy of the company that I used before AFC Home Club was "repair it or replace it" but with AFC, it was "repair it or pro-rate the value of replacing it." I take care of my things and under that policy because I take care of my things, the older they are the more I get penalized if they quit working. But AFC Home Club was cheaper than other companies and I liked the sales pitch given by the sales rep. When I switched over to AFC, I specifically asked them a lot of questions comparing where I was versus where I was trying to go. I was having a problem with my inside lines and trying to get somebody to go on the roof with a snake to snake out the pipes. The company I had didn't do that and the guy who sold me my AFC policy led me to believe that it wouldn't be an issue with AFC and that they did things like that. AFC Home Club did so much more. I've worked with Fidelity home warranty and Americas home warranty and never had an issue with timeliness or payments. I'm super disappointed and would not recommend to anyone I know. My realtor gave me a list of six companies, and then, I also went online and looked around. I then got on the phone with someone from AFC and he talked me into getting it. I feel like the company completely misrepresented themselves. I've been very unhappy with them. The guy that sold me the policy said he would always be there for me. If I needed help, he could help me through the process. He was gone within a couple of weeks. The next person I dealt with said they will get me my contract. I already paid them and I still didn't have a contract. I went through three people before I ended up with whoever I'm with now. When I submit a claim, I always deal with someone different who doesn't seem to have all the facts.
The claim that I am in complete frustration over is my water heater. I was told that there was no maximum of claims for the term of the contract. I was told that on the website, it says water heaters are covered. Now, my water heater went out just after I received my contract, which was about two months after we paid them. I had the plumber that was doing the work, and he called them. They said that they don't cover the water heater tank. They would cover all of the innards but not the tank. So, my plumber said they don't go in and fix all the pieces. They just replace it. Fixing all the pieces would cost over $1500 wherein replacing it was $750. I was told by several different people that they were going to cover the water heater.
When I asked to speak to a manager, after going round and round about this, she said they were not going to cover it due to age and to the fact that they don't cover the tank. At that point, the manager said that they would send me $150 for my trouble since I didn't understand what their contract really said. So, I have been asking them, over and over, about either giving me $150, which I don't think is fair, or covering the water heater because it specifically says on their website that they would cover a water heater. I even asked the salesperson what they covered, and he sent me the list of what they covered and it said water heater on there.
It's really frustrating. I finally submitted a complaint to the Better Business Bureau in Atlanta, and they attempted to mitigate. However, there was, apparently, no mitigation and the emails back from the company were very condescending. They're telling me that I've already gotten more than my money's worth out of America's First and that I should be happy with that, and they are not covering the water heater.

I did an analysis of all the different home warranty companies and America's First Choice came up. As far as readings and reviews, it's one of the top companies. I had previously been with American Home Shield a number of years ago and my experience with them was pretty good. What got me excited was with America's First Choice, if something broke within the time of my warranty period which was a year or two years based on how long I signed up, they would come out and fix it for free. They basically guarantee their work, and then I could choose people to come in to do the work. Those things were valid and good options so I went with them.
I submitted my claim on the phone and the AFC representatives did the very best that they could with the information they had. However, there's so much that's not spelled out within the company and it's very misleading. They were doing their jobs to get the information but unfortunately, because the contract was a little muddy, I had very short patience with the company service person since all they were saying was they couldn’t do this or that.
The only thing I needed was my drain snaked. I called AFC and they got a technician to do it. Once the technician came out and did it and I paid the fee, AFC refused to pay it saying it wasn't covered. What was interesting was the technician that they sent me was with them. I asked the technician and he was surprised that it wasn't covered. That's one of the main reasons why people call, for their drain having a slow leak is because it needs to be snaked. I ended up having to pay not only the $75 that they gave out but another $100 to the technician.
The other reason I called AFC was because my garbage disposal wasn't working. They told me that they can get me a new garbage disposal but I had to hire somebody to put it in. They could not pay to ask someone put it in and I was shocked. The third reason I called them about was my heating system not working. I asked them if somebody could come out and fix it and they said, "We need to know who's been maintaining your heat." I had to come up with a technician and thankfully one came out because I had a warranty on my home. I ended up not needing AFC because when the guy came back out, he fixed the heat himself. Overall, I'm not happy at all.

I chose AFC because of their ratings on the internet. The first claim I submitted to them was for my garbage disposal for which they told me to go buy a new one and send them the receipt. When I did it, the reimbursement was only a set amount which didn't cover the replacement cost of the unit. So I ended up eating almost a third of it. And when I called, they said they could have bought me one for a little cheaper. Also, it took almost three months to get my $125 for the garbage disposal.
My next claim was for the garage door opener and the person that they sent out was a subcontractor of the company that AFC contacted so he was just a guy in a car, not even a pickup truck, who had a bunch of cartons with garage door openers in the back. And, he didn't even look at my unit. All he did was tell me that he can sell me a new one which will cost $1,000. Then he called AFC and told them that the door's too heavy for the unit and it's installed incorrectly that's why it was broken. So that voided the warranty and they told me they were only going to give me $100 or $125.
That forced me to do research and it turned out that the same exact unit that he was going to replace it with is the one that the previous owner replaced it with for $400, including labor. The guy that I found was the original company that put the original unit in. He came out with an upgraded unit from the one that was in there but it's the same style and he did it for $400. I still ended up paying $129 of it but it was better for me to pay that than have to worry about the thing. I have no qualms about AFC's service and I'm not dissatisfied because my claims got taken care of but it took way too much of my time. Plus they have a clause in the contract, which they pointed out to me, that says if an appliance is five years old, they get to name the price regardless of how much it cost. That's something that should be fixed or altered.

Also, the techs at the company don’t work on the weekends, which I thought was weird. But we were able to get around it and they took $60 from me. For the most part, they fixed the problems and issues that we had afterward. It took a little bit longer than it should have, but I understand that parts are hard to find sometimes. They offered me a much better rate than I was paying with American Home Shield and a lower co-pay for a similar plan.
They use good companies that did the work and I'm not having any problems with the quality of work performed. But sometimes there's a delay in getting the claim looked at. For instance, my management company for one of my rental properties called about the faucet leaking in the bathtub. And AFC said they didn't cover the faucet. I pulled out my paperwork and the faucet is covered. I discussed it with the warranty company and the property manager called them back. We hadn't heard from AFC for a couple of days and I've had not heard of the results about it.
When I called for the AC, they didn't tell me that I had to have maintenance done on the AC and the thermostat before they can make any repairs. That's a little unreasonable. It's written in the policy but that would have been nice to know because it's annual. They told me a lot about what was covered and so I didn't even think to read the policy because I thought they had covered everything. I'm still unhappy about that. It cost me money to fix that and I didn't like that at all. There's still some things that they could do better but I would still recommend America's 1st Choice.

a try. The service has been anything but good. It's been sub-par all the way around.
I got activated so I had to go Afghanistan for nine months. My wife called in a few issues and they fought tooth and nail. AFC didn't repair one thing. One of the big pitches was that we have to wait for service. It seems like anything that breaks in our house is on a weekend. It doesn't break during the week. So we call the number they gave us and it takes three days to call us back. They misrepresented themselves on that.
Every time someone would come out, they would say it's not covered and that I have to pay the fee. It's been an absolute waste of time. They don't install garbage disposals and the policy on my rental doesn't clearly say that but they'll send us a new one. Then on my main house, we had an issue with the AC where it leaked. They said that it's not their fault. I have never been so disappointed in a service. I called them from Afghanistan and they passed me around. The guy who did my case work said he will talk to his manager and they'll issue a check but it was pointless. I've been very disturbed by their representation and their service. They use intimidation for me not to file a claim.

We were buying a new house so I decided to get a home warranty. AFC Home Club was in the top three home warranty companies and they were the ones that got back to me the quickest so I chose them. Claim submission is pretty easy and they have nice representatives. We've had good and bad experiences with the technicians though. It's not that they didn't know what they were doing. The quality of their work was good.
With the first technician, we had problems getting them here. There was also another issue that was so stupid. We've never had a gas furnace to control our electric air conditioning unit, and so our air conditioner went out. Three days later when we were finally able to get a company out here, the technician walked in and told us that the emergency heat switch is off. So he flipped it on and then called AFC. AFC told me that since it was our error, they weren't gonna cover it. So I was thinking I'm just gonna have to pay my $60 services but since the guy did work to fix it, he tried charging me an extra $30 for resetting the switch. He better un-reset it then because my five-year-old can put it right back up.
Another technician created a potential future problem because they didn't wait for the authorization before doing the work. When he was almost done fixing the appliance, I got a call from AFC that they would approve it but it would cost me $178. So they were asking me if I want them to fix it or they should just give me the money instead to buy it out. By then I didn't have a choice since the technician has already fixed it. I called AFC back and told them I don't know what to do. The technician was just supposed to diagnose it and now he wants me to pay $100 instead of $60. AFC ended up taking care of it, so they went above and beyond even though they shouldn't have had to. But now if anything breaks on that appliance, the repair would be at my expense. I would recommend AFC but make sure that they send out companies that know AFC's processes.

Because of the amount of homes that I own and the fact that I didn't want to have to do all my own repairs all the time, I did a google search and saw AFC Home Club. Submitting a claim was easy. My wife did most of it and their reps took her information. The only negative thing I experienced working with them is that the vendors sometimes don't like working with the company. Some technicians were okay but some seemed like they really didn't want to be there.
In the claim I had made, the technician that was there was very new and had to go through the vending process in order to be paid to fix my claim. Then the vendor I had before that had been one for a while and was totally unprofessional as well. The problem still perpetuated with the unprofessional vendor so I can't afford to keep going after it and doing that. I couldn't afford to keep the home warranty on one house while the rest still have their home warranties. I'm satisfied but not happy overall with the experience.

I recently moved into used home and decided to change to a new warranty company. AFC looked real good from what had read about them. When weather turned cold it was time to turn on the heat. The electric central air unit came on and started heating the house. When the heating element energized there was a loud buzzing sound. I submitted a claim saying the electrical contractor was going bad. Essentially I troubleshoot it for them. The rep on the phone ask me over and over if I had done preventative maintenance on the unit. I told her no since I just moved there.
To make a long story short they refused to pay for the repairs but sent out a tech anyway to replace two contractors. I paid 60.00 and when the bill came it about 320.00. I am handicapped and unable to do a lot of things so rely on warranty companies to fix covered items at a reasonable service fee cost. I asked what preventative maintenance they expected me to have done. AFC could not tell me. I guess I now sceptable about AFC.

I was purchasing a house, so I looked into acquiring a home warranty. I went with AFC Home Club because I preferred their buying club aspect, rather than just being a straight warranty provider. So far, I've only submitted one claim that they paid for, and the process was really simple. It was for my garbage disposal and they replaced it, but did not cover the labor cost to install it. They sent a new disposal over and I had it in less than a week. Then I installed it myself, so there was no technician required. I also had a hot water tank issue, but they didn't have to cover that problem, since the tank was covered under warranty from the manufacturer.

We were buying a new house and America's First Choice Home Club was part of the contract that the sellers were providing. However, they're awful and submitting a claim to them was horrible and they didn’t communicate with me. I submitted a couple of claims and they denied 90% of it even though everything was necessary. The last time I had someone come out to work on my microwave, the trade call was supposed to be $60 but they charged me $75. I couldn’t get anybody on the phone so I had to write the check or the guy wouldn’t fix the microwave. Also, they denied the majority of a claim on a pump on a septic system almost a year ago.
Then they said that the check was mailed but I never got it. I called and emailed a dozen times but I still haven’t gotten reimbursed for that. I told them that and they checked it, but it hadn’t cleared the bank. They were supposed to mail me another check but that was seven months ago. They’re absolutely the worst. I had American Home Shield at my other house and they were not supposed to be very good. But I would take them any day over AFC Home Club.

The policy is rigged to pay nothing for most people. You might luck out and have an early repair, but the timelines are set so that for most people, about the time you actually need the warranty, it will not cover anything. Further, there are tricks like you have to submit annual checkups on your AC. They really do not stress the things that count in evaluating their policy. Further, when you find out it is a scam, they give you virtually nothing back on their policy. On the last repair, they did not even bother to return either of my phone calls.

However, I also had a concern with the water heater, which makes two separate work orders and two different service fees. When the plumber was here, it took him three minutes to fix the toilet. Why can't I get him to do the water heater, too? If AFC could do that, it would be a big improvement for the warranty.

I also love the fact that once I pay for something to be serviced, I don't pay for that service again. I've had three claims and two of them went super smooth. However in the other claim, there was some miscommunication with the call center, but they were quick to remedy it once I had pointed it out to them. But when they fixed or replaced a toilet, I maxed out on it. It cost $560 but they only covered $500 which was a bit limiting compared to Home Warranty of America which I have for my other property. Another thing is that I wasn't aware that they have a very low cap per year on what they cover compared to HWA. For example, in plumbing, I was maxed out at $500 a year so I can't use it for plumbing anymore. I won't recommend AFC Home Club. The company looks good on paper but has a lot of limitations.

I probably should have known that but I didn't. My local pool guy told me that I might want to consider having him do it but turned it into my home warranty. It turns out that I could have had him fix it for far less than I ended up paying myself for the repair through the home warranty. It was not a positive experience.
I was promised callbacks that never happened. I was told inaccurate information about what my liability would be. After being very, very adamant that I wanted to make sure I understood exactly what my out-of-pocket cost would be, it mushroomed by a factor of 50 percent. If I had to do it all over again, I probably wouldn't go with America's 1st Choice Home Club. Their level of service would drive me in another direction.

But for the dishwasher, they just gave us $100 since it’s an old model. What happens if my oven breaks down? Are they just going to give me $100 because it’s old? When the technician came, he plugged it back in and it started working. He also pulled a piece off, which they had to replace at their expense. My stuff in the freezer was still soft so they came back out.
However, the freezer was not working still, so my husband called them again and they sent out a senior technician. When he came out, he asked how many times had the refrigerator been cleaned. He said sometimes we have to clean underneath and vacuum all the dog hairs and dust out because they suffocate the fridge. We did that and it's doing better, but we're still having problems with the freezer. They came out four times and it's still not fixed. Other than that, submitting claims had been fine. However, we were a little disappointed when we filed a claim for our air-conditioner. It was so old and had to be replaced because the repairs were going to be $500, and they said that if we had it repaired they would only pay $200 of it and then it wouldn’t be covered anymore since it’s too old. We had to replace the whole thing, which cost us almost $9,000, and all we got was a check for $200 to go towards it. Also, it took over a month to get the $200 check. AFC Home Club was fine. We only had a problem with the plumbing contractor. They had to come out five times before they got it right. But it's all situated now. I was without hot water and heat for a few days so I submitted a claim. Then AFC Home Club had to call out so I have to wait. Then I again had to wait for the contractor to call me. But I had to call back AFC Home Club to keep on complaining. They ended up trying another plumbing company. And because that happened over the weekend, I had to wait until Monday. But they didn't come Monday. They came Tuesday. I definitely didn't like that part.
AFC Home club didn't know what was going on so I had to explain it to them. They sent out the plumber who came. We thought my stuff blew the boiler thinking maybe it was clogged. It kicked on for a minute but by the time he was gone, it was off, so that wasn't the problem. Then another tech came and said that he thought it was this part. He did whatever he did and it was the same thing until one of the owners of the company came out himself. He looked at it, said he thought it might be something electrical and ended up sending another guy out.
And then, the third contractor fixed it and it went from there. But the first two guys came two times each. And then, the other guy came in so it happened five times which is too many many for me. I told them I run a day care and that I didn't have hot water. They said that they didn't know I run a day care and that we're gonna get someone out first thing in the morning. I told them that it shouldn't matter what I was because if I am paying and reclaiming service, somebody should be out. But then, as I addressed it to the owner, he was never told that it was a day care center. He thought it was in my house. He said no and I told people that they should send another guy the next morning. So the plumbing guy came and then it's been fine ever since.
I've also had AFC Home Club for my refrigerators. I explained to them that one refrigerator downstairs was getting too cold one minute then wasn't getting cold enough the next. Then my other refrigerator had something with the water. They ended up coming and I had to pay $78 which I was told would be reimbursed. But they only sent $16 back. I had to pay $60 as what they said after that. But my refrigerator was working then.

When I purchased my home in Pennsylvania, I had another home warranty for the first year. But I was not happy with them, so I went online to research other companies and First Choice came up as the best. I had the option to pay three years in advance which saves me money. And, submitting a claim with them was easy although I had a little bit of problem with the last one. The water heater stopped working so the tenants in my house had no hot water. It took two days until AFC finally told me that I couldn't get anybody in the area to look at it. I ended up having to find my own technician who wouldn't deal with AFC, so I had to pay them upfront. It took a few months before I was reimbursed and the amount was only a third of what I had to pay for.

We were with American Home Shield and the vendors they were sending out were either trying to make it so it wasn't covered under the policy or was extremely costly and destructive. So we decided to try AFC Home Club. They have been getting good customer satisfaction ratings. However, we were not satisfied with them either. It's not easy to submit a claim with them. The only claim we've ever had to do was for our water heater that went bad. They basically told us that it wouldn't be covered without even submitting a claim.
Most home warranties do cover a water heater that goes out, so we were very disappointed that ours didn't. They gave us a $200 goodwill type payment instead, but it was before we knew how much it would cost us. We had to call a technician on our own and then it turned out to be a $1,800 fix. Also, we were moving and we want to cancel the service, but we haven't heard a word from them. They were good about responding, but they're unresponsive now that we're trying to cancel our policy and get our money back for those three years that we have covered.

We had a plumbing leak. Interior plumbing was covered according to the contract. After the plumber looked at it and made recommendations it turned out the pipe wasn't covered because of what it was made of?? We were given $100.00 towards the bill and ended up paying $40.00 less than the actual total because of the service fee. In my view plumbing is plumbing. It shouldn't make any difference in the type of material. Our home was build in the 70's. There could realistically be older materials that were used in the construction and subsequent upgrades that have been made since. A bit concerned about the level of service we'll get in the future. Hopefully we won't need it.

We did a research on the internet to find insurance for our appliances, and we chose AFC over everybody since they had a good price. They told me they'd be sending me a reference form every month. They never send it except when I request it. It was one of the benefits of other insurances that were offering reference.com to all the coupons, and they never send it to me as they declared.
Then when we had something with our washer, the whole experience of calling the technician, them coming and then telling us that they were not covering everything was all in small print. AFC did not tell us about this. My washer was full of water and smelling, and I had to wait to buy a new washer for the company to come and exchange it. For $60, this person came and did not help me to do anything. I was stuck and we were trying to move this washer with my husband. He had a problem with his back after this, and they did not even help me to get it out of the house. They found the small print and told me they'd pay me $100, but it was terrible service. Even if I want to be formal with them, they're speaking rules. So, we got nothing out of this insurance. It was a waste of money altogether and the worst experience I've had.

I had home warranty before which was really good and I really liked it but they went out of business. I had to find another one and saw AFC Home Club from the internet. My first claim to them was two in one. I had a problem with my hot water heater and my well. I wasn't getting any water which was an emergency, so AFC Home Club said that I go ahead and find a plumber. I did and my plumber was good and did what he had to do. It cost me $1000 and he gave me two invoices.
I faxed these twice to AFC Home Club but they said they all they got was a cover sheet. They also never contacted me to let me know that they didn't get an invoice and all they had was a cover sheet. So I emailed it three times and got a check for $190 for the well or both. Then they said they were going to give me a $150 check for good faith but I never got that. This is the only dealing that I've had with AFC Home Club so far and I dislike it. I would never recommend them. We're all paid up for three years with AFC Home Club but I went ahead and got another home warranty with someone else because I'm having so much problems with AFC Home Club.

I had a home warranty before but it did not work out well. However, the idea was good. It covers what insurance doesn't so I went with America’s First Choice Home Club. The people that I talked to were extremely helpful. They answered each question and were encouraging. We had issues with the hot water heater so I called them about it. The contractor called me the next day from the time I filed the claim. There was a sense of urgency because we didn't want it to explode and within the next day they were there.
The contractor kept calling me back and forth until finally he said that it really wasn't covered. He explained exactly what was wrong with it and why it wasn't covered. However, as a good faith move, they gave me $150 towards it. I liked the way the contractor spoke to me on the phone. I understood what he was talking about and I didn't feel that he was a contractor who just goes in and takes a look. He seemed to be very involved in the whole process and knew about what was covered and what wasn't. He was good.

I had pool issues, and the contractor is usually the one that tells me what is wrong and then they give me a written estimate. Bernice was the one I dealt with at AFC and when I emailed her a copy of the estimate, she said that it was the wrong way to do it. She was snippy about it and I have the email that she sent me back. The determination was made immediately because there were obvious things that needed to be fixed and were valid things within the contract. The permission was granted right away and I paid right away to my pool company. The problem I had was getting payment.
I have two pools and had four claims submitted to get my reimbursement. When I submitted the first, I had to chase Bernice after. I thought AFC is just trying to play a game with me like I will forget about it and just won't get reimbursed. I submit my receipts and have to keep tracking them until I'm issued something. When I initially submitted three, I got paid on two of them. I wasn't happy with it.

I had to call again and again. My AC was out, the temperature is 100 plus degrees, and I have a newborn baby. It has been really difficult, but they didn't want to cover my AC. At first, they said I didn't have the preventative maintenance done. I then showed that I've already sent it to them and they wound up having to call the guy who had done the work. It sounded like they were trying to get out of paying it. It took two weeks for them to finally cover it, but it was not a very enjoyable experience for me. Also, there wasn't anybody they sent out. I had to provide a technician service myself and it was a matter of waiting for their okay.

I had AHS for one year. It came with the house when I bought it, and they were terrible. Every time they would come out, I end up paying for everything, and I didn’t see the point in that. The techs they sent out did not fix what was broken too, so I had to have another tech come out and do the fixing. It was a mess, so I called AFC Home Club and stayed with them for a year. It was easy to submit claims. However, I was not told that my appliances have a depreciation. That was one reason I cancelled.
What they're giving me and what I paid wasn't even the cost of the appliances. I was under the impression that, "Oh yeah, the microwave breaks, cost $300 to fix. We'll just give you a check". It didn't work out that way. The tech came out and said that the stove, dishwasher, and refrigerator needed to be replaced. They gave me $50 for one, $75 for the other, and a couple hundred dollars for the stove to be replaced. It was ridiculous. It's cheaper for me to buy a similar model. It was frustrating, and they took a couple of months to get that refunded too. I mailed it and they didn't even file it until three weeks after. I got the refund check a couple of weeks back, so it took about two months. On the other hand, when I called, everybody was very polite. With AHS, people were rude. I just didn't want to pay for extra to AFC Home Club and have another payment coming out of my checking account right now, too.

I had some problems with my ice maker, and I didn’t know that it wasn't on the list. It may be ignorance on my part, but one of the things that AFC Home Club should do is tell people about what they cover and explain further. If the customer doesn't have any questions, they should ask for them, because maybe it's a new person who has never had any warranty before. To me, that saves them animosity later. I called three times and they said, "We don't cover that.” They could have told me that upfront. I also didn't know that the coverage doesn't carry over from year to year. When I file a claim, I call in and tell them what it is, and they tell me that it takes about 24 to 48 hours before I hear from a technician. It’s fair and good that they tell me that, so I won't be wishing somebody would have called me. The people that come out are very nice. Overall, their work has been very good.

I told them that it doesn't do me any good to have an inspector out here and pay twice for the same thing, so now, they're denying it. I liked the extent of the coverage of AFC at no additional cost. I have two properties and they gave me a good price on both properties. They're at least willing to negotiate the price as far as the coverage is concerned. My primary residence is a typical single family dwelling with air conditioning, heating and dishwasher and all are covered. My rental property on the other hand is much the same thing except that it has a septic tank, which was also covered and with no additional cost. I appreciate that, especially as there's usually an additional cost involved with septic tank coverage. The only negative that I have is that they seem to get confused between my two properties. I issued a claim for my rental property and they confused it with my primary residence. As a result, there was an additional three or four-day delay in servicing the problem. And that was the second time that it happened.
The other thing was that they didn't pay attention to the location of the property and tried to send a repairman that wasn't even close to the location. That wasted another day or two. What they did was that they sent a repairman to service my rental property which is 75 miles from my primary residence and the repairman was more than 50 miles away from my rental property. My tenants were waiting for the repairman but the repairman never showed up. I had to initiate the call as to why he didn't show up and it turned out that the repairman doesn't service the area. Nobody from AFC bothered to call me. This happened on a Thursday and my tenants had to wait the entire weekend for a service person to go out on Monday. They had no hot water for four days. They're lucky that it was during the hot weather months.
AFC apologized and said that they would try and get on top of it, better the next time around. The repairman fixed the problem. Also, their people were nice to talk to and I'm probably going to renew them. There has to be a closer attention to detail when they're trying to troubleshoot a repairman out to a specific location. I think a lot of it has to do with paying attention to the zip code as to where the property is located and where the repairman services. To me, that was a dispatcher problem more than anything else. They should take a hard look at coordinating and sending people to repair based on the location of the property.

Part of the problem is that it takes three days for a contractor to get in touch with us. Last time, I called AFC to put in the work order and got permission from them to contact a contractor I had previously used. Once he completed the work, I got a copy of the bill and faxed it to customer service. They reimbursed me the amount of his work minus the $60 for the service fee. That worked better for me because I got somebody right out there and it was no guesswork. Additionally, they once sent me a card to go to a restaurant and get a free meal. I like that feature 'cause that helps pay for my annual fee. All in all, everything is good.

When we bought our home, we were looking for a home warranty. The customer service rep at AFC Home Club was very helpful and he was the reason why I chose the company. Claim submission was easy but it was a little difficult to get this claim finally done. It seems like it took a month. When I finally got them everything they needed, I was supposed to get a check in the mail. I waited several more months and when I called AFC, they submitted the payments. So somehow they didn't get it executed and I had to call and remind them.
Also, we just had an air-conditioner failure. We had our unit inspected when we bought our home then we found out that it wasn't covered because it required a maintenance call. We thought it quantified as a maintenance visit, but an inspection didn't cover us. We had to buy a $12000 AC unit and we got no coverage over it because of the technicality of verbiage. Then we had a water claim as well when the waterline broke. It wasn't covered as well because they said that there was corrosion involved. Anytime there's a leak, there's gonna be corrosion of pipes. We think we're covered and we're really not. I learned a big lesson on home warranties that everything is in the fine print. So right now I'm choosing to not get another home warranty and I'm just going to save my thousand dollars, put it in the bank and I'd probably come out ahead.

Although there's one time when they dropped the ball a little bit. I filed a claim and the technician called me within a couple of days. He came out, did the initial look-over and I paid him. But a couple of weeks went by, I didn't hear from him or AFC. A couple more weeks went by, I called him and he said that he had already talked to AFC and that everything was closed out, but I still didn't have an answer on my end of what was supposed to happen. But once I called AFC, they did some research, got back with me, and got the situation straightened out. So that was more of a lack of communication or follow-up.
On later instances, I haven't had a follow-up issue so that may be something that's already been put in place. On the other hand, I've never had a problem with the people that were sent out. They were very friendly, very professional, and did a good job. They are working with people that get the job done well and they have good communication skills.

I was doing online search for home warranties. America's 1st Choice Home Club has really good advertising, less headaches, and compared to other companies, I thought it was the best choice because we had other companies previously. I wanted to try America's 1st Choice Home Club because it listed a lot of the positive stuff what they're gonna do or offer. When I signed up, the experience with the gentleman I spoke was easy and good, but unfortunately, it's a horrible nightmare experience I ever had with AFC. My first time we had a claim and every time we have one, it is back and forth. It's never resolved.
When we had a problem with other companies, we call them and they send the technician. They take a look at it and they say it's this or that. I had a claim with America's 1st, I had to explain and get a hold of a manager. And nobody returns my emails. It was always an explanation, “Oh, this was in the contract. We told you already.” Very rude customer service that I deal with. When I signed up, they were like, “Garbage disposal is covered.” So I thought whatever we discussed was in their contract. Then my first claim was for garbage disposal. They're like, “Oh, we're not gonna do it. We send it to you. You install it.” So that was a huge headache for us. And it took us six hours because we didn’t know how to do it. We installed it ourselves.
And then there was an outside leak. We spoke with the manager, Britney, back and forth. Britney spoke with the technician and she told the company that, "We can give the $100,” but it's been three months that we're still waiting. I was very frustrated that she gave the okay to the guy, “Go ahead to do the work. We'd reimburse the $100.” Then they said that I should receive an email like about four weeks ago that the $100 is going to be sent but I still haven't received it.
I had a sprinkler leak and the plumbing I called said, “Oh, it's the pipe.” And then I called AFC so many times. I wanted somebody to come take a look at it if it's the plumbing or if it comes from somewhere else. It's like hours and they're saying, “It's the sprinkler." And when I brought the company myself, they were saying, “It's not the sprinkler. It was coming from somewhere else.”
They have very bad customer service. They never respond to me. They should have a website that I can file a claim, follow-up, or email, get hold of somebody instead of calling verbally and then nothing is done. I also faxed a letter. They're like, “Oh, I haven't received your fax. Let me check.” Then, “We received it,” four weeks later. And then I called and they said, “No. You didn’t fax anything.” Unbelievable. I'm tired of them. I hope they refund my $100 like they mentioned and also the remainder of the fees before further actions for them. They're the worst company I ever dealt with.

The way AFC advertised made you believe that they were a good company. But we've had an issue and it took forever to get it resolved, which is not why you get a warranty company. We still have them but we're not super happy with them. To submit a claim, it's fine, but for them to get back with you and actually get it done, it takes forever. Our dishwasher broke July 11th, and it was middle September before everything got worked out. And, I shouldn't have to always call. They say, "Oh, we'll get back with you." But they never do. I always have to make the initial call again.
They sent out two different people to look at it. One said something was wrong and then they sent out another one and he said something else was wrong. So they went with the one that said that something was wrong but it's not covered. But the other thing was really wrong that was covered. After two months, I ended up just buying a new dishwasher on my own because it was broken. And yes, it should've been covered but they sent somebody out. And they said, "Oh well, no, that part's not broken. It's this part," but it was really the other part.
The technician was friendly, but he works for somebody else. They just send him out. The technicians say that they usually don't work with America's First Choice. So that leads me and my husband to wonder because we've had home warranties for 12 years. And then when we signed up with this company, the technicians say, "Well, we really never even heard of this company."

AFC Home Club said I could have my own repair people. The first claim I had for an air conditioner that wasn't running was ridiculous. I called and said at that time that I would look for somebody and they could look for somebody to see who could get out here the quickest. I didn’t hear anything for two days so I called back in and that’s when I found out they said I needed to provide preventative maintenance before they would do anything. So I sent that documentation, and then once again waited for either them to send somebody or me to get somebody. But the bottom line is I already got a contractor and AFC Home Club didn't know about that. After the air conditioner was fixed, AFC Home Club said somebody was coming to fix it. That took a week altogether.
Then I called in the other day with a claim for the water heater and the person that handled it told me that the woman I had talked to before had been let go because of the way she had handled things. I went online and saw what was said about what was covered with water heaters. Then they sent a contractor out. He put in a thermal coupler that didn't work then put in a controller that didn't work as well. He then said I needed a new water heater. So I called AFC and that's when they told me I wasn't covered. They said the water heater was too old and that that's in the contract. They sent me a copy of the contract so I can see it. So I got no coverage on that at all.
The stuff is old which is one of the reasons why I'd want a warranty as it might go bad. But there's no mention that I can see that online. I bought it believing whatever my stuff was, AFC Home Club was gonna cover it. However, even in their contract, it says that I am responsible for making sure I do get the contract. It looked like nobody checked the email, so I followed up and they found my claim, then processed it promptly. The original reviews I read about AFC were good but then after having problems with them and finding other reviews, I regretted my choice. The first four calls I made for repairs, they kept saying they didn't cover it. Two claims ended up getting repaired and I didn’t even file one ‘cause they said they probably didn’t cover that. We’ve had other warranty companies that we’ve never had an issue with. There are things they apparently don’t cover, even though when I look online it says “all interior wiring.” I call about outlets that aren’t working and they said they don’t cover it and that they only cover the power source, which would be the box outside. Nobody can give me an explanation as to what interior wiring means. I’m welcome to have somebody come out and pay the service call and then they can determine if they cover it. But I’m not gonna do that and then have to pay an additional charge for something else.
It took a few weeks just to get a plumber out to my house because AFC was telling me that a certain plumber was coming. I called that plumber and they told me they’re not dealing with the warranty company. Then AFC told me again that the plumber was coming and I called them back and they say they’re handling this. I finally got a call that another plumber’s coming, and then it took days to get that plumber to come out. They did the job and it was fine, but it was a lot of back and forth. With my garage door opener, I had to have someone come out and they couldn't do anything to it. They had to diagnose it first. They couldn’t diagnose a problem without doing something to it ‘cause they’ve got to know what the problem was, so it eventually got fixed. But I have to use the right wording with them on the phone.
AFC needs to ask a lot of very specific questions when I don’t know what questions to ask. There’s also supposed to be this $25 a month in restaurant gift cards and I haven’t seen those yet. I’ve seen two gift cards come for memberships to a restaurant service delivery, but that’s not exactly a $25 restaurant gift card. I will finish the first year with them but I've canceled the second two years.

A technician comes in within a couple of days and depending on my schedule, but they’re normally readily available within 24 to 48 hours. They’re very patient.
Overall AFC has been excellent because I bought this house April 1st, 2013, built from the ground up and they built the house so fast that I didn’t think I could’ve sued them for negligence. I made up my mind that whatever I replace, it would be top quality and it’d be a top-quality company that would install it. I've replaced four things so far, including the sump pump, but it wasn’t under the warranty so I had to pay by my own pocket. Every time we call to make a schedule, they're not available immediately. The last time, it took us two weeks and the problem was not resolved, so we had to hire a local plumber and then send the receipt. So now from the last two times, we had to try the local people to do the repair and it's faster and cheaper that way.
The last time, the contractor tried to fix the supply valve and he told me $280 for labor charge and with the part. I had the plumber come over and it's only for $100 to $120. It's much cheaper and he did the right way next day. Yes, I will get my investment back, it only takes four or five weeks. Maybe next time when we have an issue I'll just tell AFC instead that maybe I'd try to get the local plumber, send receipt and maybe it will go faster.

I’ve had coverage with AFC on rental houses since 2012. Over the years, AFC has grown and there have been some growing pains. They are implementing technology to improve their process, but getting the call center reps to input their notes is still a challenge. One big improvement is that a manager is following up to make sure service goes smoothly. If they use this feedback in training, it will be a powerful competitive advantage. The biggest challenges in a construction environment are clear communication and scheduling between all the subs. A home repair service call is similar, in that there are a lot of steps between taking the call and the final payment. I am excited to see management involved in feedback and training to be sure the service loop is completed.

I have seven houses under contract with AFC Home Club. I thought their price and the coverage was good. However, I have not found that to be the case. I still have unpaid invoices from back in June and it has taken so much of my time to tell what has been paid or not. They disregard what the technicians says and go with what the homeowner originally thought was the problem. They would deny payment on that ground even if it turns out to be something different. Also, the technicians are hard to get a hold of, so I have a crew that I can call on. They are people who have worked for me in the past or use regularly in the trade and have done a good bit of work. Then I would pay them when the job is done, but it takes a minimum of six weeks to get reimbursed with AFC.
I was in Savannah two weeks ago and my property there had a leak in one of the spigots leading to the valve of the washing machine. The plumber waited for 45 minutes for somebody to give him the go ahead. Their reps were rallying over to the technician's line and they had not done it over the weekend. The phone was rolling to the after-hours recording and the plumber sat there for 45 minutes. So I decided to let the plumber fix the valve without the approval since it just needed to be tightened. I fired AFC and I'm going to ask for a refund of the unused money for this property.
I had an appointment to speak to them, but I had to cancel. In fairness to their rep, she did make the appointment and was very concerned. She's professional and easy to work with. It's really not the people because they're very nice and responsive, but it's the process that they have in place. I don't get any kind of statement or status update and I can't tell what property and when they're invoicing me. I also had an issue with the technicians not being able to get through and speaking to someone on the service. Then the prompt payment is a huge. They owe me a lot of money and I am not renewing any of my contracts. My time is valuable and it has cost me as much in my time to track of all these.
Ms. Wilkinson,
Thank you for your feedback, we truly value your membership and strive every day to keep you satisfied and happy! Your opinion is very important and we have implemented training and classes to help our new reps better understand our level of service. We also have a new echeck program in which techs and members are being paid within 7 days in most cases!

I went with AFC Home Club because of the price options that they gave me to declare a contractor. I've had a few claims with them and submitting them has been easy. My second claim worked out well for my pool. It took two days for a technician to contact me since they had a computer issue. It could have been faster but it was fine. Once the technician came, he fixed it within 30 minutes, and his work was very good. But there was one claim which left me hanging for a large bill because it wound up going out unexpectedly two months after I got the warranty, but I'm not upset because I understand there were waiting periods stated in the contract.

We bought the house and the realtor told us about America's 1st Choice. What's good about it is we can go with any service person. It doesn't have to be the ones they send and that was inviting. But unfortunately we had a lot of bad experience. We bought the house and before we moved we changed the floors. Two out of our eight toilets were leaking. When I called the service man, he came and called them and America's 1st choice said they're not covering it because they're part of remodeling. And the guy got his $60 and said he'll come back but he never came back and was only after my $60. The second experience was my cook top had some problems and the serviceman came and America's 1st Choice said the cook top was old and that I have to pay it myself to have it fixed. So we paid out of pocket to have it fixed.
The third thing that happened was we had a leak from the ceiling in one of the bathrooms. It's somehow one of the pipes. We didn't have time to deal with America's 1st Choice so I called our own. We have a good plumber and he came, detected the leak, opened the ceiling and he stuffed it. He didn't have time to fix it, so he said he will come back a couple of days later. And at the meantime, I called America's 1st Choice and they said, "We're not gonna cover the detection part of it." If something needs repair they have to detect and they have to fix it. So because the first time the plumber didn't fix it, they didn't pay me the total amount. They took about two months to pay me for them. And I have to call a couple of times to follow up with that.
So I don't recommend this company to anybody. This is not the first time we have had home warranties. We have rental properties that we have home warranty and almost every other company has been a better experience than America's 1st Choice. And if I could get my money back, I would leave them. It's a waste of time and money. I'm very dissatisfied with America's 1st Choice.

We ended up cancelling our contract with AFC Home Club because when our hot water heater went out, they only gave us $180 for an $800 water heater. Then I had a washing machine issue as well and it took them eight weeks to give the money. I only got $250 and it was a $1,000 machine. They did that to our dishwasher too. I gave them three strikes and they were out. I paid too much money in a year for a home warranty like that. If I'm going to have to come up with that much cash, I'll just save the cash and not pay somebody.
It also takes me four to six weeks to get a percentage of my money back which is ridiculous. They had to get approval from a manager who then had to sign off on it on their time. Then they let me sign off too and then they send it to someone else again. Also, I still get a bill for a plumbing issue because AFC haven't paid it when they were supposed to and that was four years ago. We've had other home warranties before which were a lot better than AFC Home Club.

I had a problem with my freezer making a noise. An appliance repair guy that AFC selected came out and he sent the diagnostics to them. All they seemed to read was that it was an icemaker problem, and then that’s when they told me icemakers aren’t covered, which seemed odd to me because it's part of the refrigerator. That was in July and still to this day they have not fixed my freezer. I called again this past Friday, and I said, “Could you please read through that because there are some other issues besides the ice maker and this has already been determined.” Now, because my freezer still is not repaired, my floor’s running to buckle in my kitchen.
Then I had a washing machine leaking and I come to find out that the repairs exceeded the value. So they said, “We're gonna give you a $100 towards the purchase of another washing machine,” which I said, “Okay.” They sent me the check September 26th and I deposited it into my Chase account. My bank says that it said “Return to Maker” and for me to contact the payor. I contacted them and they stopped payment on it. They still haven't paid so now I have NSF fee and I had to deposit extra money to cover it. I was also in touch with the appliance company and they’ve emailed and they’ve done all that they can do, but their hands are tied because they're waiting for AFC to give them an okay to fix something. And then if they send the appliance company out again to fix the refrigerator, then I'm gonna have to pay the deductible again. It's a racket. AFC needs to get it together and to be reputable like I thought they were, but I was mistaken.

I was under the impression that when the guy sold AFC Home Club to us, he sold it real good, but it didn’t work out that way. I submitted a claim for the washer and AFC Home Club said it wasn’t fixable. It was an old one which was about three years. They also said it was a pre-existing condition and they don't cover that. We had it fixed before and once you fix it, it's done, so it's not a pre-existing one. The bearings were out as well and that’s just the wear and tear part period. They only gave me $200 for the washer and it was $1,000 when we bought it. I had to go to supervisors just to get that amount and they were doing that out of the kindness of their heart. So basically we got nothing and I wasn’t too thrilled with that. When we had American Home Shield, they didn’t care how old it was and they’ll replace the appliance with a new one.
Right now we just had our ducts cleaned and AFC Home Club told us that the ducts needed to be replaced, are covered on the insurance, and I've got to make a claim. But I know the second I do they're going to say it's pre-existing and not do it. So I'm seriously thinking of changing companies because they could literally make anything they want to be pre-existing.

AFC had good discounts for a long-term commitment so I went with them. It turns out, they’re not easy to work with. Filing claims has been very difficult. I’ve had to call repeatedly to get things done. I have not been happy. I’ve threatened to cancel them quite a few times because it has been very difficult to get things followed up on. I’ve had to call the manager to get any claim done and to get it done right. I shouldn’t have to do that. My vendors also tell me that they haven’t followed up with them when they were trying to give them an update on a claim. So it’s not just me but it’s also with authorization.
They have horrible customer service. It’s very time consuming on my part. Whenever I file a claim, a technician would typically get in touch with me in three days, not like my old warranty company where it’d be within 24 hours. The technicians have been very good, though. They also need to be more transparent about what they cover or don’t cover when they sell the warranty. They’re not easy to work with.

We had dealt with one or two companies that were just totally awful. But AFC has done nothing but a good job since we've been with them. Some of the parameters that meeting the money part of it, what they cover and don't, is a fine line on some things. It took us a while to get it all in our brains like it should be. But they had just done a wonderful job.
The last issue we had was with our washing machine. I called and told them what was going on and they immediately called this guy we deal with on a regular basis and he took a look at it and said there's nothing they could do. We need to replace some parts and it would cost more so we might as well buy a new washer. So I decided I want a new washing machine. However, I researched new washing machines and they have been redesigned for the sake of the environment. The cycle takes a lot longer, the unit senses the water levels and you will end up with dirty clothes. We experienced this firsthand during our vacation so we decided to get our washing machine redone instead of buying a new one.
The manager of the place we were dealing with was very nice and ready to pay for whatever their policy calls for on a new washing machine, and he was perfectly happy with us getting the old one fixed too. I appreciate their professionalism because they've had to deal with some repairmen not wanting to deal with them and then some wanting money upfront because they do have a problem with the way they pay contractors. That's why there are so many guys who won't work with them. In fact, we've had a few occasions where AFC took a while to find somebody who would work with them because of the payment situation. But we've looked out at this local guy and AFC is allowing me to call him anytime there's an issue and there hasn't been one since the washing machine. He was very happy with the $200 that the company paid him to. It all worked out beautifully. We pay whatever our part is.

AFC Home Club hasn't been good. I've requested service three times and been refused three times. I made a request for our pool and we paid extra for pool maintenance only to find out that they changed laws in California where it has to be a two-stage deal when replacing a motor pump which turns out to be quite expensive. There's a limitation on what AFC was going to pay which added up to not even half of what it was going to cost me. They can't replace the motor with anything less, so it was refused and I can't get what I have in there now. We were willing to pay 500 bucks and so it went to the paperwork and it stated that they will only pay $500 for it.
We also called them up when our standalone freezer inside our garage stopped working. The contract says freezers are included in everything I would've needed for, but it's optional. When I called to ask for the services, I got stiffed because they told me that I didn't pay for that. They will not pay for a standalone, so we had to pay extra for it.
The third thing was the air conditioning unit. It was leaking water, but my wife have had it serviced in the last year, so I ended up paying out of pocket for the service. I try and do things economically, so I had told them that I was going to replace a timing unit with my pool, which work out well for me. The workman who had come out and said that the pump also needed replacing, but it has been working ever since we put the new timer. However, I'm not very confident, so not only did the insurance or the warranty company failed me, but the guy they sent out to us has failed us as well. So all in all my experience has been really horrible.
I've had other warranty companies and one of them was a family-run business and they followed through every time that we would require their services, but they went out of business. I don't know all the details of reading through all this stuff, then it turns out that they're not paying a lot for me. So I'm not a happy camper with them. They are nice enough people, but I would cancel the contract with them if I had a choice since they're not helping me.

I didn’t have that many options, and AFC had the best price and seemed to have the best coverage. Submitting a claim is easy but getting a claim covered has been hard. They’ve found a loophole in everything I’ve submitted. I’ve had arguments with them and they keep telling me that I’m wrong. The wording on their contract is very subjective, and everything I’m submitting seems to be falling under the exclusions. This past week my pool guy sent an estimate for something and I forwarded it to AFC's rep who said it's excluded. I forwarded it back to the pool guy and he said he was not giving me a new pool pump. Everything that I say, they found something to say that it wasn’t covered that it didn’t matter how I worded it. Then I couldn’t submit a new claim because the rep said they had already submitted it.
The technicians have performed their work but I’ve had to pay it every time. So far I’ve paid thousands this year and I’ve only gotten a $125 check. It’s really disheartening ‘cause I thought this stuff was covered. AFC also doesn’t have anywhere online where I can post anything bad to say about them. I would cancel if I could, but unfortunately I have another year left on the contract and they’ll charge me $50 to cancel it. It has cost me more this year in repairs than ever. I’d have to pay everything out of pocket. I feel very dissatisfied with the service and I would not recommend it.

However, they said our refrigerator's ice maker wasn't covered. I didn't know that they have each specific part under warranty. When I purchased my home back in 2012 it came with a one year home warranty. The company I was with provided excellent customer service and covered just about everything in my home. However in 2015 a decision was made to merge with another company and hold times went from less than 5 minutes to more than 2 hours in some cases. As a result I started searching for a new home warranty company. I decided to go with America's 1st Choice Home Club because even though they did not have the highest rating they actually took the time to address every negative claim that was listed on the review website.
When I contacted them the sales person told me that he would be my project manager and that anytime I had a claim and there was a problem he would tracking everything right along with me. He explained to me that there was a 60 day waiting period for claims which I was not happy with but understood. When he sent me the contract it was very vague so I asked about this and he told me it was vague because not all issues could be covered in the contract and also it gives the customer more flexibility. They also offered a military discount which was also good. I was also told that I could cancel the contract at anytime if I was not satisfied and would receive my money back (at a prorated rate based on time on the contract and if any claims had been paid out.) Because the price was significantly less than what I had been paying I signed up for the 3 years at the Gold service level rate.
Claims Process for AFC work order number **. Bottom Line Up Front (BLUF): While customer service was easy to contact the claims process did not go as I expected. My salesperson provided little to no oversight of the process, the company failed to locate a technician to conduct the repair, my claim was denied for a repair that is listed as covered both on this website and their website and it has been 11 weeks since I was told I was going to get a partial reimbursement and I have still not received the check.
Problem #1- Sales person immediately passed me off to customer service instead of helping to file the claim. On June 16th 2016 I contacted the sales person who told me he would follow me through the process of submitting a claim and I told him that I wanted to submit a claim for an electrical wiring issue in my house. He immediately told me I need to call customer service.
Problem #2- Customer service was unable to locate an electrician to complete the repair. I called customer service that day and explained the problem they did not tell me that it was not a covered repair. I received a call back later that week and was told that they attempted to contacted 12 or 13 companies and none of them were available to come out that week to fix my problem. I then asked if I could contact my own company to do the repair and was told yes. I contacted a company and set up a date but when I asked if they accepted home warranty claims I was told no. I then contacted customer service again and was told that I could use that company and AFC would pay the claim based on the diagnostic report. I told the company this and they agreed to provide a write up once the work was completed. I had the worked completed on June 30, 2016 and forwarded the diagnostic report on 1 July 2016.
Problem #3- repair claim was denied. On this website it claims that all interior wiring is covered on the AFC website it claims that all interior wiring is covered if you purchase the Gold plan (which I did). I called on the 6th of July and was told that my claim was denied because on the wiring going to the fuse box and the circuit breakers themselves were covered. I clearly explained before that the issue I had was for lights in my breakfast room when I filed my claim. I was told that since the person that took the claim did not initially tell me it was not covered that I would be receiving a partial reimbursement.
Problem #4- Contract is extremely vague. On 6 July I asked for a copy of my contract and after reading the section on electrical wiring it is confusing. One section says interior wiring is covered but in the list of exclusions interior wiring is excluded. Problem #5- It takes longer than 4-6 weeks to receive a reimbursement check. On July 6th when I was told I would be receiving a partial claim I asked how long it would take and was told it would be 4-6 weeks. I called at the 7, week mark and was told that a follow-up on the claim would be sent to the supervisor.
Problem #6- Sales person did not provide follow-up again. When I did not receive the check by the next week I emailed my salesperson on August 31st. I explained to him the issues I was having and sent him a copy of the diagnostic report. He told me that he would look into it the next day and get back to me. I emailed him two days later and asked if he had gotten a response. (I received no response from him.) I emailed him again a few days later with no results. So I called customer service again and was told again they would look into the problem.
Problem #7- Supervisor failed to get accounting to send the check at next available time. On September 7 I called customer service again and this time asked to speak to the supervisor. She told me that she did not know why it took so long for me to get my check and she said that she would contact accounting and have them send the check on 8 September and if I did not receive the check by the 16th to call back again.
Problem #8- I asked the supervisor about why my claimed was denied she told me that interior wiring other than the wiring directly coming out of the fuse box or the circuit was not covered. I asked her why the website was showing "all" interior wiring and she told me that the IT department controls the website and she has nothing to do with that. She told me her job was to process claims and that interior wiring is not covered. I called today 19 September and was told that the check was mailed yesterday (didn't know they were open for business on Sunday) and that I should be receiving it soon. So as they say the check is in the mail. I don't know if/when I will actually receiving the check.
