I bought a 50-inch RCA DLP TV for $1700. After two years, it has serious problems. The light engine needs replacement. This part costs more than the TV--if you can get the part! I have found many consumer complaints that are the same as mine. I believe there should be a recall on this product. I am out $1700.

I bought a 46-inch RCA TV from Walmart in Dec., 2006. It stopped working in June, 2007. I have talked to several people at RCA; they wanted to make me take the TV in for repairs and said that was my responsibility. I agreed to take it to a repair shop after much arguing with customer service about which shop would be the closest to me. However, one shop was out of business, and the other had the repair man out sick. So I called back. After many conversations with their customer service (who never return your calls but always say they will), I was told they would replace the TV. But guess what? They had none available in the warehouse at this time. I would have to wait another two weeks. So I waited. Called them back in two weeks; they have a TV but not the exact one I purchased. Big surprise again. I asked when would this TV be sent.... Two weeks....

I asked for the manager who I have spoken to throughout this whole ordeal. Jen informed me that the manager would tell me the same thing. But she would have him (Mark ) call me within the hour. No call. I called back and was informed the business was closed for the day. I did contact the BBB. They have sent the complaint to RCA, and I am waiting for response. I have requested a full refund. Hopefully I will receive this and be done with this fiasco. I wish more than anything that I would have read customer reviews before buying this TV. The reviews for RCA are terrible, the reviews on the BBB also list the company as unsatisfactory, and the reviews here are bad as well. I truly hope this company can be dealt with. I thought that RCA was a good, older company that I could trust; I chose them because of this. Boy, was I wrong.

I purchased my husband an RCA Scenium DLP TV in 2004. Upon delivery of the unit, there was a scratch on the screen. Thomson wouldn't do anything about it. I requested the extended warranty, but was told there was none available. In 2006, a shadow started to develop on the screen. I contacted Thomson again and was told that there was nothing that could be done. After several calls to the company, one of the CSR's told me that it was the lamps. I was told that the lamps usually go after 4 years, but in my case it is sooner. With my husband working shifts, and myself working, there is no way that we could have been watching the television as much as they claim. There is a TV in every room in my house with the exception of the bathroom. So I know we did not go over the hours of viewing and this is before 4 years, so what is the problem? I had a magnavox (PIP) for 20+ years and only spent $150 on repairs. With this television, I will be spending $400 or so replacing the bulbs every 2, 3 or 4 years. It is not worth the aggravation. I will never buy another RCA television. Customer service is uncooperative.

I am now with a television that has to have the bulbs replaced. This is costly to the consumer.

I purchased 2 RCA 20" TVs (20f420t) for my vacation condo. After only using a few weeks, but owning for a few months, one of the TV's screens went blank. I called customer support and was told to fax company my receipt, and they would send a prepaid label to return the TV for exchange. I faxed the receipt and never heard back from RCA. A week passed, so I called RCA. They said they received the receipt but was told that they now want $80 to exchange TV, and I was to pay for shipping. TV only cost $125 at Walmart! I asked to speak to a supervisor. Joe Smith (name he gave me at call service in Philippines), said he would look into problem and call me back in 24 to 48 hours. A week later, after no returned call, I called back to ask what happened. I spoke to another supervisor Pepper (ya right), and she told me there was nothing they could do. I asked them to listen to the original taped conversation between myself and first customer support person. She refused...end of call.

A week later, Joe Smith from RCA, called me back and said there was no corroborating information on the tape, and they weren't going to keep the original promise to repair the TV under warranty. Impossible, because I originally offered to bring the TV to a local dealer, and the first rep said not to because the local dealer would charge me for repair whereas RCA wouldn't. Joe Smith said that the conversation never happened. I gave up with call center. I tried to contact RCA (Thompson) directly in Marietta, GA. They sent my email back with a thank you for contacting us and please write a letter to another address. I give up!

I have now thrown the TV away. Will not buy another RCA or Thompson product again!

In April 2006, I bought an Rca Truflat 19 diagomal tv. I read online about its faults only AFTER I had bought it. It said the set's volume will get very soft then very loud, which it did almost incessantly. Also, it said two green blobs will appear, which they do. I'm thinking of getting a medium sized plasma from phillips. Are they trustworthy?

I purchased a 61 inch HD DLP RCA TV in April of 2005. From day one it made a loud humming noise. After 2 years the TV quit. It was taken back to the place of purchase for repairs. They called me within two days, said the color wheel was broken, it would be about a $500.00 part, and did I want to go ahead and fix it? The TV cost 3,000.00 so yes, I want it fixed. This was in August of 07; it is now Jan 08 and still no part from RCA. I called RCA and talked with several different people but have gotten nothing but a run around. By reading blogs I find that this is a common problem with RCA. I have been told that they no longer make parts so there aren't many out there.

THIS COMPANY, THOMSON RCA, needs to be investigated by BBB. They are ripping off thousands of people each year.

If I had not been home my house could have burned down. I think RCA should replace the TV or pay for repairs. Any help you can give me in this matter will be appreicated.

Because I was at home I unplugged the TV so there was only damaage to the TV.

I called back; they set me up with a local repair company, gave me an est. of $1100.00! I paid $3000.00 plus for the TV! I Googled RCA and got their customer service person for North America (Nadra Maxwell@ 317-817-8101). This a direct number to her office (make a Note!). She agreed to pay half. I gave the TV away for the price of repair and bought a different brand! This was a bad ordeal!

We purchased a RCA SDTV 36" screen on May 7, 2007. On December 16, 2007, in the middle of a movie the television died and has not come back on since. That's not the bad part. The bad part is, you can't reach anyone at RCA to get repair information; and when you get an auto-response from Thomson (who by the way, did not read the emails because all the responses have been the same no matter what you state) you get auto-reply. We have a year warranty, and it looks like they are going to ignore us until the warranty wears out. After reading thousands of comments and complaints, I'm sure my $400 TV will never be repaired or replaced.

We are out all that money, and now the TV--and with the way this corporation is now, we won't even be able to talk to someone to tell them how disappointed we are with their product. Because this is the second time one of their products has quit working in under a year, we will never purchase any product affiliated with RCA. The consumer should be their number one priority; it's a shame it's not.

This is all about an RCA HD 50 TV (which I bought 2 years ago on 5 Oct. 2005) which has been sitting at Tower TV in Fort Smith, AR for 59 days as of today (23 Dec. 2007). I went through a warranty number, and they gave me a number for Tower TV to call so they could fix the TV. I told Tower TV at the time that according to the manual it could possibly be the lamp but also the color was distorted. They picked up the TV on 26 Oct 2007 and ordered a part through Thomson Consumer Electronic Corp which apparently owns RCA. The part was ordered on 31 October from Clarita, CA but was told that it was back ordered and would be in around 8 November. Part did not arrive at Tower TV until around 15 or 16 November. The part was a color wheel (that is what Tower TV told me). They said it fixed the noise that the TV made but did not fix the main problem.

So on 21 Nov 07 they ordered a light engine from Thomson (which I found out when I called Tower TV). At the time the person I talked to at Tower TV said that RCA has parts built in China. On 27 November I called Thomson Consumer Elect. Corp with the number Tower TV gave me, as they told me that I should call because if they did, it wouldn't do any good. I talked to Michael. He took info and said the information would be sent to the search dept, and they would be in touch with me or Tower TV.

On 17 December Tower TV told me the parts Dept was doing a world search for the part: Light Engine. So on 17 Dec I called Thomson Consumer Elec Corp (800) 448-0329 again and talked to Sidney who told me that the parts dept said they are trying to find a compatible part as RCA (Thomson) has no RCA light engine available. Amazing!

This to me is unbelievable that they have no RCA part available. I just don't know what to do. I have never heard of a repair taking so long. Makes me wonder if I got a LEMON. The consequence is that I have had my TV in the repair shop for 59 days. I don't even know if I am telling this to the right people. HELP.

I bought an RCA 50 TV at sales price from Best Buy 1/27/07. The light engine needed to be replaced by an authorized service company. I have been without my TV since 11/15/07, and it is still not repaired. Thomson/RCA offered finally an exchange, but then I found out they will not exchange for the same quality or model; instead they want me to exchange for a cheaper product because I did not pay their manufacturer sales price. Then I asked for a refund, and they said they do not do refunds. After complaining they agreed to a refund, but then I was told it will be 6-8 weeks to process and receive my money. So not only did I go without during Thanksgiving and my vacation but now they are telling me I am going to go with out during Christmas, maybe even New Years as slow as they actually move. And nothing accommodates for that and the stress of all this. I am losing sleep over this because I am so angry. It isn't fair!

This has caused great stress in my life on a daily basis between all the time I spend on call and contacting this company--to coming home and having to share a smaller TV with another adult--to the pride that has been taken away from me. I thought it was a privilege for me to be able to spend $1300 on a nice television, and all Thomson/RCA has done is cheapen the experience. Of course this may be silly for some people, but for me money doesn't come easily.

I purchased a new RCA TV from Big K-Mart in Sept., 2006. The picture turned bright red and the set cut off in Sept., 2007. Luckily, I purchased an extended warranty with the set. I called Big K-Mart and filed a claim. Between the first repair visit, waiting for the back-ordered part, and the second repair visit to install the part, it took over seven weeks to get my set repaired. Two weeks later, the set is turning red and cutting off again! I will not purchase another RCA product again.

I purchased a 32-inch RCA TV in April, 2006. It stayed in the box four months because of some home improvements. We started to use it in August,2006. It always made buzzing sounds while running, but I thought it was okay since it was my first HDTV. Then it started to fail when I turned it on. So I called RCA, and they went through the troubleshooting process. Later it failed completely. My warranty was out, but I was told they would provide a replacement TV if I sent it. I shipped it August 15, and no replacement yet. I've gotten 5 or 6 different stories; when I ask for a supervisor they say someone will call me back. Who can I talk to?

In the last 6 years I have bought several RCA products and none lasted longer than 2.5 years. I bought a 36-inch TV that would not power up after 2 years. I had it fixed for $300, but while it was in the shop I bought another one. The second one I bought lasted just a little over 2 years. I just threw it away. A few months before the second one went out I purchased an RCA DVD player/recorder, just under $300; it quit working after 4 months. I e-mailed RCA and received a generic letter telling how they strive for quality products and were sorry I was not satisfied. There was no name or signature on the e-mail. I will never buy, and advise everyone not to purchase, RCA products.

After paying $800 for the first TV and $1000 for the second, and just under $300 for the player, they should last longer than they did. I want everyone to know how bad RCA products have become.

June 4, 2005 my son purchased an RCA Home Theater receiver (RT2380) for my father's day gift. The unit worked about 2 months, then would lock up (no response to remote control or unit pushbuttons). After unplugging it and letting it sit, it would reboot and work for a while. I contacted RCA via email and was referred to a customer service phone number. It took several calls and extended waits before they told me I would have to return it to the store I bought it from for service. They informed me that they no longer performed service and would send it to a service center in Oklahoma. It took several months to get the unit back. It failed in the same mode again after about a week and a half. I returned it for service again (5/3/06) the second time and I'm still waiting for repairs in November 2006. RCA builds junk, boycott Thomson / RCA.

I'm hard of hearing, so my son bought this for me so I could understand what is being said in movies and on TV. So the consequences are inconvenience, frustration and a couple of hundred dollars wasted.

I bought an RCA television in March. It unexpectedly stopped turning on in June. I sent RCA an email, and never heard back. I called them, and was told I could mail my television to Texas and they would be happy to mail me a new one, as I was well under warranty. My television weighs over 100 lbs, and I was quoted a $150 shipping charge at UPS. This is ten dollars less than I paid for the television. I called back and asked if there was a better solution, as the shipping cost was equal to the worth of my television, but to no avail. I talked to four different people who all told me that this was the most efficient way of dealing with the warranty. Efficient for who?

We purchased a brand new television, 52 HDTV RCA Thomson Brand at an INCREDIBLE steal through a reputable furniture store. Regularly selling for $2200, we walked out of the store for $1399.99 - and were anxiously awaiting it's arrival. The television entered our home on 11/11/05 - and on 12/22/05 I made my first phone call to RCA. We were experiencing a very high-pitched squeal from the unit. It was so loud our dogs would howl and we would get migraines from the frequency, even when it began to get too high for us to hear.

After repeated phone calls, we spoke to Chris number one and had an appointment set up for a repairman to come to our home and see what the problem was. This was 04/17/06 by the time the repairman actually showed up. Three hours after being in our home, wiggling and fiddling with the back cover off and a screwdriver poking around - he replaced the back of the tv, without screwing it on. This would prevent the screeching sound, as the back was too tight, he concluded and admitted RCA uses cheap silicone glue now and that parts will vibrate at a higher heated frequency and there wasn't much to be done. (Hhhhm, I'm not too technical - but BS sort of rings through my head on that one.)

Soon thereafter, a bubble appeared in the screen of the television, where it bows out, the picture is stretched and distorted. The picture automatically began changing itself from stretch to zoom. Our coloring exploded and we couldn't get any normalcy to skin tones at all! The final thing to go on the television was powering up - it would take almost 5 minutes to get a picture. FINALLY RCA sent out a repairman to pick up the television.

We've been waiting for almost 3 weeks to have it repaired and sent back only to hear the following. 1) The part was sent out on June 1, it will take 4 weeks to be delivered and then 2/3 weeks to be repaired - getting us a tv in August. 2) The part has been searched for nationwide and can't be found - therefore we will be receiving a new tv of equal or greater value. 3) They found the part again, and it will be in the shop by June 16, 2006 and we should have the tv back hopefully around the 26th of June.

Now let's add in two more important factors to this story. My husband has very poor visions - and my mother is legally blind and can not see a regualr television. She needs very large pictures to make anything out - my husband's condition is deteriorating into the same situation -so the reason for me buying this model was NOT for status. I don't need it, and don't even care if we have a tv - I did it for him and my Mom. Now, he hasn't been able to enjoy his programs, and with mom coming in a week and half - who knows if she'll be able to enjoy television while visiting. I've never been so disappointed with RCA and have never had such a horrible experience all the way around. From poor customer service, poor communication and a poorly manufactured product - I will do my best to research all affiliations to RCA and Thomson - and COMPLETELY steer clear of purchasing them.

I asked the service center if this was unusual and they said no.He informed me that RCA is not worth buying anymore and everyone should boycott this company. He said that they cannot even get hold of a person to talk to. They have no idea how long it will take for this part to come in as the distributer is out of this part. I have tried on numerous occasions to get hold of a person to talk to about this problem. You cannot get to a person to talk to. I was told that they are getting by with this type of service to the consumer because they are still living on the good reputation that RCA use to have. The service center told me that everyone should report them to the better business bureau and that is what I intend to do.

I purchased a 52 inch RCA television model HD52W59 in December of this year. I turned the tv off and when I returned home the tv would not come on. I had a totally black screen and no sound. I had only had this tv for three months. I went back to Circuit City where I purchased the set and was told that they wouldn't do anything as it had been over 30 days.

I then discovered just how hard it is to find a RCA person to talk to. You can't find a number to call to complain to either.I finally found a place that says they will work on it and they have had the set for two weeks and they haven't even looked at it yet. They also informed me that if it needed a part they would have to order it and they didn;t know how long that might take. Keep in mind this tv was three months old.I would like to suggest to everyone reading this to boycott RCA. They obviously do not have the same reputation they use to and they really don't care that they are putting out a inferior product.

I have been told that they are no longer a USA company and that they are French owned now.I wish I had been informed of this before I shelled out my money to a company that could care less that this tv lasted three months.
