In August a membership and personal trainer program was signed up for at the a Fort Myers Gulf Stream center location. All payments were paid on time. As a result of hurricane Ian my son was forced to relocate, limited housing in Fort Myers and his job provided him a position elsewhere in the state. The closet Lafitness is 45 minute one way. So my son asked LaFitness to cancel his contract as not due to his fault but due to a Natural disaster he had to relocate. Lafitness refused and made him pay $585 to cancel his contract. Lafitness has no compassion for someone who was effected by a natural disaster. He was paid up to date.

LaFitness is a terrible non compassionate company, all they cared about was getting their piece of money. Plus when the local club was contacted “Dominic” said was he signed a contract and had to pay, when I asked for his supervisor he provided her name Tamara **, when we asked for her contact info he said he didn’t have it and told me to calm the ** down and hung up. The customer service is disgusting. They should refund the $585 it cost my son to buy out of a contract he couldn’t use as closest club was too far away. Don’t go there.

Josh, the general manager at the Woodbridge VA location, provided exceptional customer service. I moved out of state and forgot to cancel my membership. Normally, one has to appear in person to cancel, but Josh handled it quickly and painlessly over the phone. Thank you!

This is without a doubt the most deceptive business I have ever worked with. My credit card expired and they contacted me about updating my billing information. I told them that I was not returning because I have a gym at work. They kept hassling me about updating and I told them so many times to cancel the membership. They told me I had to come into the gym and I told them I was not going to do that. They promised to email me a cancellation form, but I never received it. I stopped getting calls so I assumed it had been canceled. That was a year ago. Now my new card has gotten compromised and I got a notification from the mobile app to update my credit card information. I NEVER gave them this new information, yet for a year now they've been billing me. I have no idea how they got my credit card information but I did NOT authorize it. Very deceptive and fraudulent practices.

I wanted to switch my single club location and add my partner to my membership. The first salesperson "had no power" to switch it, so the club manager came to advise him. As he left he leaned over and "whispered" in the sales guy's ear "start high, then go low"... I left to check out other options. Talked to a guy at another club who said my location switch should be easy and free! Unfortunately that club was too far, so I went back to deal with the people at the original club. After a week of back-and-forth nonsense my location was magically changed. The whole time they had assured me they would honor the deal I was offered for adding my partner to my membership. But then I was told I would have to sign him up online -still, not to worry, the offer price would be honored.

Still hopeful, I went to sign him up online. I clicked into the offer, and the link landed me on a deal that was $3 more per month. I called back. This time they said, "Sorry, we can't do anything. You'll have to call the main office". Called headquarters in CA. Their response was "We're sorry, we have no power to do anything." The first person was rude, so I called back.

The next person was more polite, but said, "No, we can't honor the price you were given, even tho you were repeatedly told by our reps that we would honor it. Best thing you can do is email our PR department." What? Why don't you escalate this on your end? Isn't that what should happen? This is an internal issue. Why am I spending hours chasing this down? Nope, "we have no contact with our internal PR department and there is no-one else to talk to here. You would need to email them." She gave me an email address for their pr department and sent me on my way. Wow. So the moral of the story?

Don't believe what you are told at this place. If you are going to join this gym get there is no human at the helm that will maintain the integrity of the place. The decision-makers are busily hiding from their customers in a building in Irvine, CA, and the peons in the gyms and call centers are neither given the tools or power to do their jobs, nor the training and supervision to ensure customers are treated with basic courtesy, honest and integrity. They wasted a lot of my time and lost my whole family's business.

DO NOT under any circumstances sign up or enroll for the personal trainer program. I have paid for 11 months of services and have yet to utilize half of my sessions due to personal trainer turnovers and their lack of availability. In addition, their trainers are college students who are studying to be trainers. The money you pay for a personal trainer are not for qualified or certified trainers. The two trainers they assigned to me were both in college. They were not available or able to work in the mornings or every evening because they were in classes. For the amount paid for a trainer, you would think that the trainers would be certified and qualified. I had tried to cancel due to their negligence and to poor quality services. In which they took away all my session. After paying the balance, they have yet to honor their part of the agreement.

I contacted their headquarters and left messages. In addition, left messages with a staff member at the gym. No one returned any of my messages until I canceled my payments and they wanted their money. In trying to rectify the payments, the VP of the department did not honor his word. He had someone else in the company handle this matter.

When the payments were made and the account was up to date, I was unable to schedule a session because they had no female trainers available that week. Also, the trainer they had assigned is no longer with the club and I'm unable to schedule a session. My membership is soon to expire and I currently have 37 sessions. LA Fitness do not honor their word and their services as agreed to the contract. DO NOT ENROLL IN THEIR PROGRAM.

Been a customer since 2008. Last week I was denied access to the Montgomeryville location bc I have "single location" membership (East Norriton, PA). Not what I signed up for when I joined 16 years ago; I had nationwide access but looks like somewhere along the way they took that privilege away, didn't bother to let me know, and of course didn't reduce my monthly fee. As a solution, they offered me to "upgrade" to the multilocation membership ($3-4 more per month), pay "first and last month" again (????), pay a registration fee (????) and also pay a "one time $49 fee" (????), all after being a customer for 16 years.

I asked to cancel my membership on the spot, they said I have to fill up a form, blah blah, I politely asked to process my cancellation right away, they validated my identity, no reason to have me jump through hoops. They told my "OK, I'm taking care of that right now, sorry to see you go". 3 weeks later my membership hasn't been canceled. Unbelievable.

I talked to the manager in crossroad Irvine and asked him to freeze my contract until I come back. He agreed. When I came back a new managers did not honor the previous manager's words and agreement. Told me I have lost the time and I have renew my contract for another year. I told her she should first give me the time that I have lost then I will renew. Very rudely she said, "I am not honoring previous manager’s word." I disagreed and lost $600 “a month and half worth of training sessions “. For that reason and matter of principle I hired trainer out of LA Fitness. I have lost $600 and la fitness lost $4800 for a year. I would never suggest la fitness to any one. I am pregnant and at the time I had a personal emergency and found myself really needing to use the restroom. My bladder felt as if it was overfilled and I decided to stop at LA Fitness located in west palm beach off of Military rd. because I am a member with an active and paid for plan there even though I haven't been in to work out in a while. I had to go really bad so when I walked in I seen the front desk person busy speaking with someone and I proceeded past her walking straight toward the restroom.

I did not sign in for the following reasons..(1) She was busy and the only one up there and I was only going to the back to use the restroom. (2) I did not need to use any equipment or anything else besides the restroom. (3) I knew I would have to go in my new phone and search for my membership in order to scan it and I reallllly had to go so I kept walking past the front. I was a little ways past the desk when she called from the front and stopped me yelling for me to come back. I explained to her what I needed to do and ask if there was a manager. She then stated she was a manager but didn't give her name. I asked her was there another manager I could speak with quickly that was above her and she pointed to a gentleman and said his name was "Paul" and he was a manager. He was seated right there beside where we were standing.

I quickly told him the situation and I wrote my name down for them to try to find while I went. I explained I would come right back out and finish properly checking in. Paul agreed and said ok since it was an emergency. They held me up for about a good 2 mins which made my urge worst and before I could reach the RR I had a small accident. I had some tricking down my legs in the process. Since they have showers right there, I decided I would just rinse off in shower and go back out to sign in afterwards...

It only took a second to go to the toilet and flush, wash my hands, and walk right there to a shower stall to jump in. I only had on a bathing suit cover with shorts. I would say Approximately 1 to 2 mins after I even reached the back I heard a woman's vc saying "MAM" "MAM" as soon as I turned on the shower. I didn't answer because I didn't know who they were talking to at first and then The front desk manager that I had met upfront came and pulled curtain back with her phone in her hand while I was showering.. I was in complete shock.

She said I had not scanned in and threatened to call the police. I snatched the curtain back and I explained that it was very rude what she had just done and that I was indeed a member and if she wanted to she and whomever else could call the police if they wanted to. She demanded I come up front and get out of the shower. I asked her 5 times what was her name but she refused to tell me. She stood there with her phone while I was naked...I was so nervous and ashamed that I could not even hurry up enough to get my phone out of my bag and record the situation.

I hurried and put on my clothes and as she watched with her phone in her hand. When I threw my cover back on I purposely took my time to find my membership in my email on the phone to prove to her because she was speaking to me so rude. She left after maybe 5 mins of standing there and another girl came Back and switched spots with her while I scrolled my email for my membership she so desperately needed to see.

Finally I found it and walked to the front explaining to "Alia" the new lady what happened. She agreed it was a bit extreme. Alia told me her name was AJ. I made it to front and Alia scanned me in while "AJ" watched. Paul then walked over and said "You were back there for a while." I noticed he didn't see her scan me in and still assumed I wasn't a member. I explained I would never ever step foot in another LA Fitness gym again. I called next day to get the name and contact of a regional manager but was refused by the same manager on the phone. When I asked her name she said "AJ". If I have to post this on a 100 review sites I will. She violated me in so many ways. I hope my reviews reach the right individuals. Thank you.

Never ever sign up for personal training with LA fitness. The sales guys are such liars and they will trick you into paying extra money in whichever way they can possibly make you pay. If they ever promise you about some special deals, before signing any contract, get that in writing from them or get some sort of a proof. DO NOT ever fall for their words and sign up for anything. The only way you can get some help is by contacting the corporate or speaking with the operations team. If you ever want to cancel, never go the sales guys, just directly speak with the above said people.

My name is Justin, and I am a disabled Army veteran. I signed up for a gym membership and personal training. A couple weeks after signing up, I was hospitalized due to some medical issues and diagnosed with a condition that wouldn't allow me to workout for the foreseeable future. Upon discharge from the hospital, I contacted LA Fitness corporate office and emailed them a doctor's note saying I couldn't work out until my diagnosis cleared. They rejected this note as it wasn't specific enough. LA Fitness told me it needed to say at least 6 months that I couldn't workout. I got another note that specifically said no working out for 6 months, but again they rejected it. This time, they told me it had to say I couldn't work out indefinitely. Currently in the waiting process for receiving my third note from the doctor.

DO NOT sign up for personal training contracts at this gym. If you ever need to get out of it for whatever reason, they will screw with you and do everything they can to keep you under contract. Also, they absolutely refused to refund me for the month I was unable to use. LA Fitness does not care about their customers, only lining their pockets. They treated my medical issues like a joke. The personal trainer I had at my gym tried telling me I should just keep coming to the gym and doing light workouts, completely disregarding my doctor's orders. I explained to him my situation over text message and he completely ignored me; no response whatsoever. The trainers also do not care about your well being. DO NOT use this gym. Awful business.

Thursday May 26th, I went to the LA Fitness at 5331 W. Sublett Rd., Arlington TX. to meet with **whom, I thought was a personal trainer and who would be discussing personal training sessions with me. The meeting was not with ** alone but included a “VP” John. John walked me through a few exercises with ** observing, explaining what it would be like with a trainer. This lasted about 20 minutes after which we went to a desk where John proceeded with his pitch by quoting different packages, while scribbling the number of sessions a week with the price down on a piece of paper upside down for him but facing me.

With each “no” from me he offered a new package quickly. I was sure the package I settled on he said was for six months with six sessions a month. After saying yes (instead of getting up and leaving), John left and ** proceeded to go over the contract, saying it was for 12 months. By then I was so overwhelmed that we just went through the rest of the contract.

When we had completed the contract, ** said he would have the trainer Teresa contact me to set up my first session and that he would also be emailing me a copy of the contract. On 5/31 I placed a call to ** requesting a copy of my contract (which I had yet to receive) and a call from the trainer. As of today June 3, I still have not received a copy of the contract, and I had ** confirm my email address. I am going to try and get a hard copy today. The trainer did contact me on 6/1.

I am very unhappy with the manner of high-powered sales techniques, as well as the lack of follow through on their part. I felt pressured, like I was dealing with a car salesman, only there were two of them. I wish I could get out of this contract and into one that is more affordable, as this current contract is going to impact my budget more than expected. I realize that I should have stopped it before it was finalized, and I take the blame for not doing so.

LA Fitness is the perfect blend of a "serious" gym and "casual" gym. A good mix of equipment, not too many loud weight-droppers, and generally clean and organized. Is it worth joining? Absolutely not. My wife canceled her trainer when the gym shut down for covid. We find out almost a year later that they had still been charging us because she apparently hadn't submitted a written request. She tried calling corporate and got yelled at, only to find out a week later when talking to our local branch that there was no record of her calling at all. So contractually they'll make you jump through all of these flaming hoops if at any point you want to stop paying them, but if your card expires you'll start getting calls constantly from LA fitness from many different locations until it's resolved. I think I got 13 calls in one day before I had a work break that let me actually pick up.

Find that your location is a little short on equipment? You can ask the front desk and they'll tell you that they work from a fixed template so they can't order more equipment, unless you ask why your location doesn't have a raquetball court like another location even though you pay the same rate... at which point suddenly that "fixed template" line isn't relevant. They're also one of the more egregious cases of charging you a ton for sign up fees so that you're disincentivized to leave. And don't even get me started on how little they enforced covid rules around masks and cleaning up at my gym. If there's any other gym chain near you, even if it's a slightly longer drive, go there instead. Their locations are nice, but eventually you'll get ripped off or hit with corporate double speak.

LA Fitness, ESporta…It doesn’t really matter what they choose to call themselves these days—they’re still a greedy and deceptive corporation that takes advantage of good, hard-working people to make a buck. DEFINITELY DO NOT SIGN A CONTRACT WITH THEM!!! After you sign a one year contract for membership and personal training (like I stupidly did), they will rake you over the coals.

About two months into my personal training term, I had a change in employment that caused a reduction in pay and I could no longer afford my personal training. I called the gym to express my situation and request to downgrade from two personal training sessions a week to one. They were completely unsympathetic and noncompliant, telling me that no changes to my contract were possible until my term expired, which was 10 months away! So I went to my bank and got my debit card canceled. LA Fitness harassed me over the phone (I’m talking like two phone calls a day) to tell me that my payment was declined.

Finally, I gave in and returned the call, and I once again reiterated my situation. All they were willing to do for me was to place my account on hold for two months. Being the non-confrontational and honest person that I am, I consented, feeling like the right thing to do would be to fulfill my contract. In hindsight I wish I had just blocked their number and let it be, especially after what I’m about to share next…

Later in the year, I accepted a new job which would require me to move away. I gave my trainer notice a month in advance that I would no longer be able to attend the sessions and wanted to cancel. He said he would take care of it. Well, after I had moved I noticed that my account was still being drafted $360 a month!

I called LA Fitness to cancel, and the person answering the phone told me that he didn’t have the power to cancel but that he would write down my name and number and have the manager call me back. I gave it a week, but of course I never got a call back. So I called again, and explained my situation to another person, who informed me that I needed to speak with the manager (they provided her name) within such and such hours. So I called the next day within those hours and asked for her by name. She told me she wasn’t in charge of accounts and that I needed to speak with a different manager, who wasn’t in that day (surprise, surprise).

I tried again and asked for that other manager, but he was never in when I called. Eventually, I got fed up with the whole run-around they were giving me over the phone and I went there in person and asked to speak with the manager in charge of accounts. Of course, he wasn’t in. So, at their request, I wrote a note addressed personally to him and including my name and phone number in which I explained in some detail my situation and that I needed this issue resolved. Two weeks went by. No phone call. So I reached out to my personal trainer. He said he spoke with the manager and that I needed to cancel in person. That would have been helpful information to hear from the other five people I spoke with on the phone!

Fortunately, I was in the area today and I went in person during a time when I knew he would be there. I sat down and reiterated my situation for the umpteenth time and told him I had called multiple times and even provided a handwritten note to be given to him. He said he never received it and that this is the first time he’s heard about it. I think either he lied to me OR none of the staff members who received my complaint by phone or in writing thought it important enough to relay the message to the powers that be. Anyway, he said he couldn’t do anything for me and that he would need to speak with the VP of LA Fitness.

My mom, who was also with us, asked, “My son called time and time again to get a hold of someone and he never heard back. How do we know you’re going to call the VP and follow up with my son?” He said, “Well, you’re just going to have to wait and see.” That has to be the most unconvincing response I’ve ever heard. Rather ironic, isn’t it, that they were completely RELENTLESS about getting in touch with me to resolve the issue with processing my payment method, but when I needed to cancel or get refunded it was IMPOSSIBLE to get any response. Long story short, I will be calling corporate and complaining because the shenanigans at my formerly local club have escalated it to the top. If anyone is reading this who is even slightly considering joining with LA Fitness or ESporta…DON’T!!!

    To whom it may concern,

Please kindly read below story of the experience and be advised I will publish this experience as review for LA Fitness in anywhere across the USA so people can judge and make proper decision, as staff are important pictures to represent any company; I After being about 4 yrs member of la fitness at road to Six Flags at Arlington tx,took a guest who is member of fitness connections in Dallas Texas, to my home gym at road to six flags in Arlington Texas.

Upon arriving to the gym we had to wait as no one was attending the front desk till a girl came, After introducing myself and my guest a very rude front desk girl who later introduced herself as a manager (probably younger than 25 yrs old), told me that I don't have a guest privilege which is $20 east extra per month and I cant take a guest.

I told her I am a signature member and my family pays about $90 per month and after 4 yrs this is my first guest I ever took with me, and I always get emails from la fitness to encourage taking guest for free trial (which is a way to gain new members), and this gym is my home gym. She told me NO rules are rules. I told her go ahead and *** cancel my membership and she called another new girl (as I am at this gym for almost 4 yrs, I saw her being trained and worked there for last 2 or 3 months as sales rep), who turned out being completely a B and instead of helping to gain a potential customer (my guest), she encouraged me to cancel because la fitness don't care but rules are rules. Later I asked her name and she was introduced as Amaya. I used to be a GM 20 yrs ago in fitness industry and I absolutely believe this is not the policy of la fitness.

The argument escalated and they called the personnel trainer I guess in management by the name of James. I showed him the emails I get from la fitness encouraging to take guest for free trial and he was super nice and helpful. Also showed him a free pass which is published on la fitness website but these staff didn’t honor it and gave me so much headache. James helped my guest to get the guest registration through the app. Then he asked the rude girl Amaya to process the guest pass but SHE DECLINED! I guess she thought my guest is upset with the greeting and she didn't see a potential. James asked another girl to process the guest pass and my guest was allowed to use the facility after all these dramas!

Lifetime fitness is about 10 mins from me and with $79 compared to $49 I'd pay, I'd get more respect and I always go to their facility with my friend. Does it worth to stay with la fitness for $30 a month if la fitness treatment to value the customers like this. I'd like to be contacted by the management and if this is not Addressed probably cancel my family membership.

I decided I should just pay the last couple of months so I don't have to deal with the hassle. WRONG. They will make it the worst possible experience on you to cancel AT THE END of your contract. No one will help me. Everyone talks about how I have to go in and "Talk to the manager" to cancel. This is the worst thing in the world.

Not to mention that the $500 a month I'm paying for 8 30-MINUTE sessions is ridiculous! $62.50 per session. Can't even use them all because they don't have availability... and do you know how much they pay trainers PER HOUR? $12.50. Not ok. They are getting my $120+ per hour, regardless if I go or and not and that's all their trainers get from it??? That's crazy. I have never been so irritated and angry at a company in my life. This is ridiculous and people need to know not to let places like this treat their employees and customers this way. This is not ok.

So we had 37 sessions in our account which are going to be wasted because we cant transfer or get refund for and we are going to different location.

Now that I have moved this is not the case. Since I am living with family the first month I do not have a utility bill with my name on it which they “need” to cancel my membership. I’ve spoken to 4 different people at my location since and received conflicting information between everyone.

I was charged $220 on Monday and was informed I would be reimbursed since I would not be using my membership anymore/froze my account for the time being. I even called corporate and now they are saying I can not get my money back. If I had known this ahead of time I would have never signed up in the first place. I liked my trainer but LA fitness seems to only care about making money and taking advantage of their customers. But when I left I told them to suspend my account and close my mother's account. But they continue to charge my account after kicking me out. He had me quickly sign everything because he was in a rush to leave that afternoon.

I am well aware that I signed a contract so I am responsible. However, it is rude of Jay to tell me "Well you signed it so now you have to pay!" Aside from the fact that he lied, he promised me a friend's pass and I was supposed to be weighed every so often. None of this even happened and when I questioned the staff about it they did nothing. I then spoke to the manager and explained my issue he told me I can cancel the personal training with a doctor's note. I went ahead and got the note. Jay then comes to me and refuses to submit the note to corporate claiming corporate will not accept the note because it doesn't have the proper wording. If you ask me, he does not have the right to make that decision. Jay does not work for corporate. Corporate has to be the one to refuse my doctor's note.

With that, not that it is any of jay's or corporate's business, my note was from my neurologist. I suffer from seizures and have been since the age of seven. My doctor is currently changing my medication. Jay has no right to bully me into staying committed to a contract that he lied to me about in the first place. I was originally a member of CKO Kickboxing when I lived in NJ. I never ever had an issues with them and I was with them for over three years. I completely regret signing with LA Fitness. They also unfreeze your account and keep charging your credit card and when it declines they charge you a fee for every attempt, and they keep ringing it up to boost the amount of money they make from the declined card. They will cancel the account without paying off the fee so they just keep stealing money until you can pay it or go into bankruptcy.

Local club managers claim they can't do anything and just tell you to come back with another card and head office tells you to go to the club and deal with the manager so the customer is just a ping pong ball getting passed back and forth while everyone washes their hands of the problem. I paid for 6 months of training as soon as the gyms opened up in June 2020, I have been a member of LA Fitness for several years but never did the personal training, so I wanted to give it a try. I started training with Levi, who was great, while the gym was working on getting more trainers. Then they got Sydney, who was also great; however, shortly after arriving, she left.

It was ALL DOWNHILL FROM THERE. I first was scheduled to train with a lady who was 30 minutes late to my 30-minute session; she approached me when an excuse of how her first sessions normally run long, so that is why she was late and asked me if I was ready to train or what...um OR WHAT. I was furious, I went to the service desk, and they apologized and told me they have a better trainer, their "Master Trainer" for me to work with. Ebert (or something like that). I was scheduled with Ebert, and when I arrived, he was not there. The front desk assured me that Ebert was told I was coming, but he was not there, nor did he answer their calls. Again I was furious. After that, I was told that other gyms had better trainers, I wanted to cancel, but they ASSURED me it would get better. I have NOT TRAINED again and yet was still being charged $200 per month.

Well, in February, before my last payment, I refused to pay it; I told EVERYONE that called me I wanted to receive some value for the $800 that I had already paid before I paid anything else. So what was the corporate and gym's solution? They canceled my personal training, removed all my paid for sessions (24 sessions), did not refund me any money, and have not followed up on the issue that I have made 3 attempts to contact. I have been to other LA Fitness locations, explained what happened, and they were in disbelief; however, no resolution has been made. My most recent attempt was June 2021... a waste of money and a waste of time! So, to make a long story short, save your money and time or invest in personal training elsewhere.

He was very rude. At 9:00 O’clock I met with the training manager, she was ruder than her trainer and she tried to tell me that it was my fault and this how it is going to be, if I do not show up I will lose my session but if they do not show I have to accept it and go back to the app and reschedule it.

I ask her to cancel the training sessions. Her answer was no because I signed a year contract, and I must finish it. What, What contract. Three weeks into my training, I caught Covid and had to freeze my membership. As everything was being locked down and I was still recovering, I got charged again for training on March 15, when I thought my membership had been frozen. Clubs then got shut down two weeks later. July comes around and I get charged AGAIN for training. I called my local club and was told someone would be in touch. No return call. I called again five days later and was passed around until someone gave me a number for the corporate office.

I sat on hold for 30 minutes with corporate, only to have my training frozen yet again. BTW, they only freeze in three-month increments so you have to keep up with it or else you get charged. Called back in Oct 2020. Same thing...long hold time and my training was frozen again. Where am I at with this? It's been a year and I have shelled out $1,448.91 for an annual membership plus personal training. Most of which, they have been unable to deliver OR I have been unable to use in 2020. It's hard to believe it has been almost one year since all this crazy started.

To top it all off, next week I have to call back again, wait on hold so I can freeze my training for another three months. While I understand everyone is trying to survive these crazy times, a company not being willing to budge at all and try to come up with a solution for customers during a global pandemic is crazy to me. I won't be going back.

I don't understand why those people don't show any sympathy if their customers weren't feeling comfortable going to their gym with the fear of being infected by someone else! I feel if someone is infected by others in their gym, they should be responsible for the medical fee.

I was told numerous times I was not able to cancel my membership over the phone. I went in to cancel my membership because I do not go as much with the pandemic. I walked in, someone was at the desk, I waited. The man behind the counter wore a mask and had his face in the computer or socializing with whomever was in front of him.

The custodial worker directed me to another window, so that’s where I stood. Still, the man with his face in the computer began to speak not to the man he was socializing with me but to me. Without looking in my direction or asking what I was there for. I did not hear him nor was I sure he was even speaking to me. He got aggravated when he asked my phone number and I didn’t respond because again, never made eye contact or spoke directly to me. He was too busy socializing. Once I gave him my number to look up my account, it was a click of a button and a “you’re all set” still no eye contact, I wasn’t asked if I wanted a receipt.

I was so taken back I told them they were rude and I left. Once I got back to my vehicle, I realized I never received a receipt. I went back in, only to find the same three men standing there. Socializing. I asked for a receipt and I was told it was emailed to me. It is now the next day and I still have not received a email of my cancellation. The man behind the front desk did every little thing before he printed the paper although he was already on the computer.

I asked why I couldn’t of canceled it over the phone if this was all it took, a click of a button, you didn’t need to confirm with my ID, my name at least... The member or friend of the front desk guy chimes in “well it’s illegal.” The LA fitness in Springfield MA has very poor front desk staff. They are not friendly and they are very rude. Socializing is a priority over doing their job. Their customer service skills are very poor. I was handed the paper and nothing was said as I left. I will not recommend this gym anymore due to its poor front desk staff.

I have a membership for 29.99 a month at the Evanston location and I cannot say I have been happy with any of their trainers. I was given 1 or 2 free personal training sessions however, after every session they have kept me there for an hour trying to force me into buying their personal training packages that are extremely expensive and are a scam as they don't even give you 30 minutes of their time. Even the country club I attended had better prices for a full hour of fitness with a trainer.

After rejecting their proposals to try and sell me the training packages one of the trainers has had significant tension with me ever since our meeting. For example, he is rude in his tone of voice and constantly uses sarcasm to greet me and being at the gym while someone is constant glaring at you are trying to let you know they don't like you from one of their staff. Although 29.99 is not extremely expensive I feel it is very expensive for their mediocre facility in addition to their poor customer service.

LA Fitness' business model is to guilt you into purchasing a membership, banking on the fact you'll hate it enough that you won't use their facilities, and then making it as hard as possible to cancel in hopes that you'll continue paying them a ridiculous fee for literally the rest of your life. Their monthly rates are stupid expensive and they offer nothing but old saggy naked men and sweat-drenched machines in return. The gyms are overcrowded and falling apart and once you're signed up, good luck canceling.

Want to cancel online or over the phone because you moved? Too bad. The only way you can cancel is either in person at the LITERAL gym you joined at OR you can write a LETTER and mail it to them, no phone or email allowed! A LETTER! What year do they think this is? The most offensive thing about this place is how blatantly obvious they are about screwing you. No effort to hide the fact that it's a scam because you're too stupid and lazy to actually print a form out, sign it and mail it. Well, jokes on you LA, I mailed my letter today and it only took me 3 years to do it.

I work out at the LA Fitness located on Ridgeway Rd. in Memphis, TN. On the COVID Protocol, the person at the front desk doesn't remind those who are leaving uncovered to put their masks on as they leave the premises. There are signs on the front door stating that the masks are required when entering and leaving the building. The signs are written in English, and none are written in Spanish. There are many Latinos who work out there, and do not speak fluent English. The Latinos are usually not covered upon leaving and that might be because there are no signs posted, in Spanish. There is Latino music constantly playing in Spanish, but there are no signs posted in Spanish. This short sightedness can cause this spa to be scathed by the Shelby County Health Department.

On ADA Compliance, the main workout area is on the second floor, but the elevator to the second floor has been shut down for nearly a month, with no explanation. This causes those who have mobility problems to struggle to climb the stairs up to the work out area and down, to leave and go home. I have seen members who have to use of wheelchairs turn and go home when they see that the elevator is shut down. The downstairs workout area is reserved for Fitness Trainers and students, only, with no others allowed.

Despicable, unethical company. When COVID-19 started, I requested a freeze on my account because I have health issues that put me more at risk of hospitalization (or death) if I were to contract COVID-19. They told me they would freeze the account at no charge to me. They had to shut down shortly after that due to the pandemic getting worse and state-wide restrictions. This month I found almost $150 worth of charges on my credit card for my brother and my membership (6 charges in total). Apparently they sent out an e-mail (which I didn't receive) saying they were reopening and then just started charging people.

After calling my local gym and the corporate office, they still refused to remove all the charges, stating they are "a business". I told them I was not informed they would be reopening/charging me or else I would have cancelled the membership. I also explained that nothing changed regarding my health situation and that I never asked them to unfreeze my account that has been frozen since March. They still refused to refund me the full amount. We are in the middle of a global pandemic! I will be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. I'm appalled and disgusted.

Got a call on my drive home which culminated in an 8 minute, 56 second discussion about my desire to cancel my membership amid his sales pitch. I have been a loyal member of LA Fitness for two decades (that's 20 long years people) and for a long time they were really good. Great staff, great classes, great members and I was a member at a time when I really needed it in my life. In the last 10 years it has gone WAY downhill. Classes were cut and not replaced, classes that existed were terrible with teachers who were not nice, the staff turned over and the new people are mean as snakes. When COVID-19 started and the governor closed the gym down our memberships were all put on hold which was great, but when they opened back up (with no prior notice) I had already decided that I wasn't ready to go back into a germ-infested gym and I wanted to put a hold on my account - so I did and LA Fitness charged me a full month anyway.

Less than 3 weeks later the gym was mandated to close again and I was charged again in spite the closure. I called the gym to complain and talk to a manager about a refund and someone named Kelly who was the supposed manager was super nasty to me because I wanted a refund on an overcharge they committed. He was belligerent and hostile and right there I decided I was done so I cancelled my membership. Now, Kelly told me he would credit/refund my money and that was over a month ago and it hasn't happened. LA Fitness will tell you to call (but nobody answers - it's a recording) and they will tell you to email (which I sent over 30 emails over 60 days and not one response). All so they can avoid refunding your money because they are going bankrupt.

So, after multiple civil attempts to get my dues back which were overcharged, I went to my credit card and filed a dispute. I also went through several hoops to get my membership cancelled as well because there is no way I'm ever going back to an LA Fitness - they couldn't pay me to go back. These people are the worst at customer service - especially for a 20 year member. Do yourself a favor and go to a small boutique gym or better yet - walk or run outside in the fresh air (with a mask - 6 ft. apart from others). These people are horrid.

We have paid them over $300 and only used the club 8 days.

Is a total scam, if you plan to use this club make sure you read the small letters on the agreement because their sales reps do not mention it I guess is because they just want to make sales, If he had mentioned an annual fee I would have never enrolled. So you pay first month, initiation fee, last month and annual fee but the annual fee they charge you two or three months later, the scam on their behalf is charging three months later the annual fee and not telling you verbally at the time of enrollment. Good price and would be a decent value for the money if it weren’t so disgustingly filthy. Not unusual to find the same dirty tissue and sweat stains on a treadmill for months, fingernails on mats, etc. Trainers are a joke - they stand around & chat a lot with their clients instead of motivating them.

Here’s what L.A. Fitness saw fit as an action during this time: although all gyms are closed (indefinitely), and after sending a letter of ‘support’ Friday March 20, 2020 that we will not be charged monthly or annual fees until the gyms will open again, three business days later I was charged the monthly fee. After I sent an email to inquire, thinking it was an honest mistake, and after not receiving any reply, the next day I was charged a $52 annual fee, in addition to the monthly fee... This is not the time to think about gym memberships… When every business right now is doing so much for the community, freezing accounts, mortgages and rents, helping and supporting each other, this greedy company is charging their members, while closed. Why did they even send the letter then?

After a few attempts to talk to customer service, I ended up talking to this corporate person, who told me that it was not a mistake, that there will be no refunds, and that if they don’t reopen the gyms next month they will add a month after I cancel my membership… Like that is helpful in any way? I mean, what are they charging us for right now, and why can’t they follow the ethical conduit that most businesses follow during this pandemic time. We all lost jobs and businesses, and I never write a bad review no matter how low the situation, but in this case I honestly hope that someone will see an opportunity to take legal action against them, since this is a type of action/business that should not be permitted in America right now, and I am obviously not the only person upset about this.

The gym has been closed since last week, the doors are locked, and they are continuing to charge members. LA Fitness also collected the last month upfront so they owe all members a minimum of one month, and weeks. LA Fitness is looking to fatten their wallets while then USA is fighting a health crisis. Greedy bastards.

In fact of the 10 gyms in my area only 3 have certified trainers. In contrast, there were 5 trainers at my local LA Fitness when I first signed up. And they even stayed for a year or two! I am very disappointed and will cancel my personal training account.

They are just robots. Strange. Anyhow if you would like to be ripped off, degraded, and when you try to resolve anything with the robots they keep trying to make you think that you aren't trying to resolve the issue so they can get you off the phone. Due to the situation that happened I asked for a 25.00 credit and they can't even do that. Anything I tried to resolve with them, they couldn't do. They will not help you just take your money. DO NOT sign up with LA Fitness! I repeat, DO NOT sign up with la fitness! They will STEAL your MONEY! The only reason I signed up with la fitness was because of Kids Klub. Every time I drop my daughter off, there’s a problem. They’re not well staffed in the Kids Klub! 8-10 kids per adult and 1-2 are usually crying. How in the world can you call that well managed? This makes me worry about my daughter's well being while I’m working out. Their staff & corporate office will tell you, “according to our roster, there’s always two people on site”. Which is total BS!

The manager was also unprofessional and extremely rude! Her name is Nicole at the Alicia Parkway location. I canceled my membership since they did not follow through with their part of the transaction with providing adequate care for my child. I asked for all my money refunded (first, last, initiation fee, annual fee) since they couldn’t provide what I signed up for and they said no. It’s called a breach in the contract! Nicole was very arrogant about not returning my money too. I asked the front desk twice for assistance to help the woman (Ellie) working in Kids Klub, they couldn’t have cared less, and were rude to the woman (Ellie) working in Kids Klub. They yelled to Ellie that there’s no one to help in front of other customers. The lack of professionalism was astonishing!

I saw at least 3 staff members at the front desk just standing around. I do not understand how a company can take anyone’s money without providing the service that was originally agreed upon! I’ve only had the membership for two months now, and they already charged me an annual fee. You would think they would waive the annual fee until the following year but nope. They did not mention this when I signed up either. They are wonderful until you’re signed up and they got your money. Once they receive your money they do not care about you or your family.

At the end of the day, this company doesn’t deserve your business. They’re incompetent, rude, and constantly short staffed. The manager (Nicole) running the place needs to be better educated/trained so she’s prepared to handle customers in a professional manner. A professional manager/supervisor usually attempts to save a client but not at Alicia pkwy la fitness. Nicole lacks basic customer service skills. Thank you Nicole, you just sent my business to 24 Hour Fitness! Needless to say, I will be contacting my bank about this!

My wife and I joined LA Fitness at University Parkway in Sarasota about 3 months ago, after receiving multiple calls from the sales Manager Melanie. She was very kind in the beginning and my wife and I decided giving her a try, then we were offered the membership. We said that at the moment we didn't have the money to sign in. They said that was not a problem, we can join and pay later, (which we did one week later) then we can try it for two months. We also were offered a "Complimentary Fitness Assessment" next day. We took it (about half and hour) and the we were invited to sit with our trainer for more than an hour and they tried so bad to get us in a training contract. I had the same feeling that when I have been offered "timeshare" too much pressure.

I explained I really didn't need it and also at that moment in my budget I didn't have money for it. A guy name Ryan, one of the trainers, was even so rude that he dared to tell me that if I live in Lakewood Ranch, how I could not afford it? To make a story short three months later we are trying to cancel our membership. Now they are charging an "annual fee" after being only two months. My wife decided to get training in the Lakewood Ranch Branch. After only three weeks she injured her back. She took a letter from the doctor saying that she was not able to make any physical effort, so were told that only with a letter from her doctor. We went to Melanie the Lady at the University Branch who took the letter and told us that the Training contract was canceled, but they are still charging my wife account with $200 a month! After $400 already paid for only three weeks of training, and they keep charging the monthly membership fees after I refused to pay the annual fee for being only two months in the Gym! WATCH OUT! DON'T LET THEM GET YOU! Their tactics are DECEPTIVE, IT IS EASY TO SIGN BUT AFTER THAT THEY GOT YOU FOREVER!

When calling the local fitness club in September, I was told I could find the cancellation process in my LA Fitness account information.

I followed the steps and expected to hear back regarding the cancellation of my membership. I did not, so I sent an email and when I heard back, I was informed my cancellation was never received. Shame on me for not making a copy of the cancellation form or keeping my post office receipt. Calling the fitness club and requesting to cancel a membership isn't an option, although they tell you it is. Requesting to cancel via email isn't an option either. I am attempting to follow the cancellation process once again, however this time I will send the form via certified mail. I was at LA fitness at fletcher's creek in Brampton, Ontario this morning. I was there for a cycle class this morning. Every time when there is a class members prefer to leave the door open, reason being it gets really HOT during the class and with a lot of people's body heat. This morning one of the janitorial didn't allow me to leave the door open, I asked her the reason, she said she can't do anything. She was told by manager to keep the door close when there is a class. I went to the manager and explained him the situation, I didn't was anyone or myself to faint during the intense class. Manager was very very very RUDE, and gave me a reason for AC to kick in when door is closed, which makes sense and I agree. He also gave this reason that people working out outside the class have complained that they hear a lot of music and noise that disturbs their work out.

I request to LA fitness Management, please allow us to keep the door open during the class. Otherwise if something happens to anyone then management can be in big trouble. FYI, classes at LA fitness are intense with instructor. Some of the instructors are crazily intense which is good for workout. But please allow to leave the door open, if not full door, but at least half or quarter part.

Also, please make sure your managers have manners to talk to members, make sure that they have their morning coffees so they don't misbehave with any member at the Gym. I literally had to tell that manager, "You don't need to fight with me, I understand your issue but you need to be considerate to members." He also said he will come to the class to see how hot does it get. Which apparently he never showed up to see. I did talk about this to the other members of the class and they agree with my comments, I am not sure if they have talked to the manager or no.

I had a contract with LA FITNESS for training sessions that expired on November 27th 2019. As I lost my contract I went to the facility in Noblesville to ask when was my last payment due and if I had to do anything else to cancel my contract. The person who talked to me (Alejandro) told me that I had nothing to do, once my contract was up I was not going to be charged anything else. I asked him, do I have to cancel my contract so I don't go on a month to month basis? He said to me "no, you don't have to, once your contract is up, then you are done". Trusting to his words I didn't do anything else and what it is my surprised that on December 27th I see that they withdrew $420.00 from my account when they said this was not going to happen...

I went to the gym to ask about it and first of all; Alejandro said not remembering having talked to me on November but when his manager started asking him questions about it he suddenly remember what he talked about with me but still could not remember having talked to me... (seriously?) Second, they then showed me that on my contract said that if I did not cancelled my contract then I would go on a month to month basis... Didn't I just went on November trying to avoid this???? They gave me false information, you cannot tell me read the contract because I didn't have it and that is why I went to asked them for this information...

Let's say that that was true (which is not) the month to month payment was due on the 27th, I went on the 27th and told them about it... Shouldn't they have just canceled it and refund my money back? Any other business does that!! While posting on Facebook this story I came across other people who have gone through the same experience with LA FITNESS; it seems this is a rip-off scheme they have going on and no one puts a stop. Even if it was written on the contract; they should have given me that information on November when I went talking to them and they gave me false information.

Now, they charged my account and told me like making fun of me... "you still have sessions you can use for this month"... as if I want to set foot ever again at that place! Customers cannot be rip-off this way; If I say to refund my money for a service you haven't been provided, they you refund my money, no questions asked! Obviously they didn't give me my money back and I will not go there and use my training sessions as I didn't agree on them. I don't know why customers have to be forced to pay for something we do not want. Hopefully someone can put a stop on this.

LA fitness is a corrupt place to workout, they will persuade you into signing up for membership and deceive you that the care about your fitness but in reality they are just interested in your money and they’re ready to take all your money from you. I don’t get it, is easy to sign up for a membership but when you want to cancel it, they will give you reasons and try not to cancel your account and will keep billing you.

For my experience, I opened an account on 11/18/2019 and they told me I am paying first and last month which was $70, after my first month I didn’t like the place mainly because the place stinks, and the bathrooms sucks, their equipment are old and there’s a freaking a lot of people and there’s no space to train. Not only that but also they Close the gym almost anytime without informing you, and change their schedule time as well, is not worth it so don't waste your money.

On 12/31/2019 I went there to cancel my membership and they said I should go home. Is done, I went home and saw that on my app it was still active. I called in and they asked me to come back in and cancel the account and I did that and they said they can only cancel it on 02/17/2020. Which doesn’t makes sense, because they are going to charge until February, but they didn’t mention that to me when I was opening the gym membership, I’m so done with LA Fitness. I will never ever advise anyone to open an account with them, they’re corrupt and liars.

In actuality, the classes they claim they offer are not necessarily even offered in the relevant city/province/country you live in. I did the research and found out that many of their classes are only offered in a few states in the USA like Cardio Jam and HIP HOP. I am in Canada [Ontario specifically] and I did a country wide search and noticed based on provincial postal codes and US postal codes that very few of their gyms offer those classes that they list.

Cardio Jam is in New York and Philadelphia and Georgia, perhaps even in LA but not in all the US states and certainly not in any province in Canada. That goes for HIP HOP classes as well. Also a few others are not offered at all in Canada. I did not know this when I joined. I wanted to try all sorts of different classes and found out that selection is actually quite limited as to what they do offer even though I go to 5 different LA Fitness locations in Toronto to try different instructors classes. After two years I have decided to leave this gym.

My story starts this way. I went to LA fitness in the month of July! I wanted to take a regular gym Membership! But they had a deep conversation with me, about why I am joining and everything for a long 1 and half hours! I told them I have my marriage in February, and that is the reason I wanted to join! So they asked me to take training sessions!

Then came Daniel, who works in LA as a fitness trainer! He talked to me about the benefits of having a trainer and everything and he told me a price for 12 months! I clearly told him I am a contractor, and I move places! So I won’t be able to make 12 months and it’s way too expensive! So he made 160$ for 6 months! He said, "Your marriage is in February, and there are exact 6 months for it! So this would be perfect plan for you!" Then I said, "Ok! I want to do 6 months!" He made me sign a contract saying it to be 6 months (but the contract showing 12 months, which I came to know yesterday Nov 27th)! I was not aware of this 12 months saying in the contract! Even Daniel and other trainers talked to me saying 6 months all these months from July!

I got a new job in Thomasville, GA! And I have to move to Tallahassee! I told the same to the people in LA and asked them to cancel my membership. From that day they started showing faces to me! At first they said, There are more 2 months, and you have to pay 160$ as a buy out, in November initial weeks!" I told them, there is no LA fitness in Tallahassee! If there was one I would have definitely joined that club there in Tallahassee, but why should I pay, if there is no center in Tallahassee, and that’s not my problem! They said, "You have signed a contract, and you need to pay 160$ as a buy out!" Daniel said, "We can trying cancelling without you having to pay!" I gave my new job offer letter to him as a proof that I am moving out! And he said, "We will definitely make this happen, I will talk to my boss!"

Weeks were passing! I was constantly asking him for an update! He said, "I am trying! But no answer!" On Nov 25th I went to ask for an update! He said, "I am trying, we will close tomorrow for sure," and I told him I have a training session at 8:30 tomorrow, and asked if he will be there! He said, "Yes, I will be there and we will close it!"

On Nov 26th when I went to Gym at 8:15, Daniel was already left! So I asked Eli **, about the updates! He said I am not from fitness trainers (but at least he could have mentioned why is it getting delayed)! He started talking like, "I don’t know, you should have come earlier. People already left" and started questioning me like, "Who asked you to join the gym? We didn’t told you to move to Tallahassee" And all this stuff! Is this the way you talk to people who come to your Gym, and putting all the hard earned money on your business? I pay 160$ for fitness and 56$ for membership! Do I deserve all these words from him, after doing more than 1000$ from 4 months? I was so disappointed with the people there, Eli as well as the front desk girl, I don’t know her name !

Finally yesterday Nov 27th, 160$ got deducted from account! I thought ok now it got deducted! And the buy out amount is over! I am free from the membership! But I wanted to confirm this first from the corporate that I am out of these two training and gym memberships! And also wanted to complaint about this guy Eli ** and his misbehavior with me! So I have reached out to LA fitness Corporate!

A lady picked up the call, and I asked her about my membership cancelation! She said, "Your gym membership has been cancelled and you will not be charged 56$ next month!" And then I have asked about my training fitness membership! I told her about my 160$ which got deducted and asked her to consider as a buyout and cancel the membership! And then I heard this shocking news. She said, "Your contract says 12 months!" My mind got blank, and I said no it’s 6 months! Everyone in the gym knows it is 6 months! And I have signed 6 months! She said, "Ma'am I am reading whatever I see here!" I was so shocked and rushed immediately to LA fitness!

I first asked Daniel what is my buy out! He said 160$! I asked him, "Are you sure?" He said, "Yes. Let me check!" And after checking he saw it to be 12 months, and immediately changed his words! "So your contract says 12 months! You have to do more payments till June 27th!" I asked him, "How come it says 12 months! We both discussed that day that long, and you have decreased amount to 160$ For 6 months and how come it is 12 months and not 6 months!" He didn’t utter a word! He simply said, "Let me go ahead and cancel this for you!"

He cancelled and gave me a paper! And told, "You are all set. 160$ is your buy out and money won’t deduct from your account anymore!!" I said ok and took that paper! In that paper it is saying final billing date is June 27th 2020! I asked him the same, he started saying, "No don’t worry, you are all set. It won’t deduct and all!" I asked him what if it deducts, and what can I do legally if it gets deducted? He started mumbling, because he doesn’t have an answer! He was just saying no it won’t deduct and all! I asked him, "I just want to see in a paper that today was my last billing, because I don’t trust you guys anymore." He made me wait for few minutes and saying, "I am helping you out and all!" He later said, "It won’t deduct, but I can’t do email"! I said, "I don’t trust you anymore and I want to have that in paper!" He started back firing on me. "You signed it for 12 months and it will deduct till the last billing!"

Just before this he said you are all set! And now after me asking for a written proof, he Started saying rudely, "You have signed for it! It will deduct!" Such a liar! I got cheated! And I Mean It. LA fitness is just for making money, by talking some cock and bull stories! They made me a fool! They just can’t fool people with their words saying it to be less months and actually making us sign 12 month contract! Be Aware people, before signing the contract! And also be aware with this fraud business! I am feeling helpless. Don’t know how to come out of it! Now their team took my case and is looking into this! Hey guys, I am a innocent who is stuck with this LA fitness. Did you hear "stuck". I didn't know a gym can cause me so much trouble. No one clarifies what are the deductibles and when you get paid, you can't ask back. They tell you cock and bull stories. So I needed to cancel my membership so I paid that month fee and cancelled the membership but you know what I got charged again and they expect to pay late fees and when you argue they tell you signed it. So please be aware of this scam. This is not signature club. It's a scammers' club making some random money. Customer satisfaction at the end of the day is 0%.

Three months later I noticed the ($43.39) LA Fitness charge on my banking statement. Called LA Fitness and they stated that I had successfully cancelled my membership but not my son’s membership. Wow, my “Family membership” automatically become an individual membership, without any notification or correspondence from LA Fitness. Be aware…!

I have been a member of LA Fitness for several years. I go to the "680 Hacienda Dr, Vista, CA 92081" phone number "(760) 732-0072". I occasionally go with my roommate, named Madelyn (also an LA Fitness member), Madelyn is not as experienced in the gym as I am and I therefore point out or model how to correctly do the movements when I feel she may be doing them incorrectly. However, I want to make it very clear that we are working out TOGETHER; I complete a full exercise and then she completes and exercise. I am not a personal trainer, I am not certified as a personal trainer, and I do not make ANY income as a personal trainer. I am merely helping my friend DURING our joint workout together to ensure that she does not injure herself.

According to the LA Fitness membership agreement, outside persons who are unaffiliated with LA Fitness are not allowed to conduct personal training inside of their facilities. This is understood, and after speaking with several managers at LA Fitness I have been told that I am NOT in the wrong to workout WITH my friend and to assist DURING the workout if we are BOTH working out together. However, an employee at the "680 Hacienda Dr, Vista, CA 92081" location name "**" (the director of personal training) has continued to harass me stating that I am not allowed to "instruct" persons on how to properly conduct their exercise movements, even though Madelyn is my roommate and friend and we merely go to the gym together because we are FRIENDS, not based off my ability to train her or be a personal trainer, which I am NOT.

I decided to make a BBB claim after the employee ** approached Madelyn and myself on 11/9/19 threatening me that my membership was going to be revoked as of today, 11/9/19. However, immediately afterwards I spoke with the VP "Josh" who was present at the location, who stated my membership was not going to be revoked and "not to worry". As I have now been told by other managers there as well as the VP of the location "Josh" that my workouts with my friends are not violating the contract, I believe that this is now harassment since ** continues to approach me in the gym.

I can see why this gym has a rating of 1 Star. I recently went to an LA fitness on 22nd street in St Pete. I was minding my own business when Tyler a personal trainer told me I would have to move. I explained that I was there first and would be done in three minutes. He then got another manager clearly his friend or girlfriend and another clearly steroid using male, I’m not even sure he was an employee. Eventually someone hit me below the eye with a rope from behind (coward). Long story short I am a 52 year old male just trying to get in shape. I have very mixed reviews about the personal training experience at LA Fitness. To be fair, it was OK. However, it did not "balance out". It was not worth the money spent each month and if you get a good trainer, you are lucky. If not, it was horrible. I was in both camps during my time with this. In my informed opinion, the rest of the trainers appear like jerks, acting like they are the most in shape person in the world and the everyday guy working out is not worth his time. It's not for the middle of the road guy who wants to work out to look better and get healthier. Save your money. ($300 a month in a locked in year contract.) You can do it on your own at your own pace.

I got pressured into signing a membership to personal training and once I got on the hook, it doesn't really matter how I felt or even if I showed up at all. They didn't care. They got their money! Getting a time to work out with the trainer was very difficult too. If it's booked, you are out of luck. I became insignificant to them. Save your Money! It's not worth it!

We signed up for the "Silver Sneakers" fitness program through my Medicare Supplement insurance. It was one of the benefits offered by the insurance carrier. We visited a few of the different fitness centers in our area that accepted the "Silver Sneakers" program. Each fitness center has a certain program that is usually a free and also some other items that are extra if you so choose to use them. That is understandable for certain items. I have no problem if a fitness club has those type "extra" benefits offered to their club members. I know Planet Fitness has a Black Card membership that gives you massages, etc for an extra monthly fee. Some franchise clubs were nice but the LA Fitness had an indoor pool and that was something I was looking for.

The first go around with the Customer Service Rep/ Trainer was okay. They walked us around and showed us the different areas and pointed out the different machine areas- legs, shoulders, arms, etc.. We said we would talk about what club to sign up for and call them back if we wanted to sign up for an LA Fitness membership. I asked him for a business card and he said they do not have any business cards. "You can look online for our phone number".

We (my wife and I) decided to join the LA Fitness club. The indoor pool was the biggest plus for her. We knew when the Customer Service Rep/ Trainer was going to be in the next day since he told us the hours the day before. We walked in and sat down at one of the 6-8 desks with him to sign up on the computer. THEN he goes over to the wall and gets out more papers and talks about using a Trainer for workout sessions. Some crazy priced workout plans that were about $45-55 for a 25 minute session. AND they were more expensive if you did not sign up for a 6 or 12 month plan. There were 1, 2, and 3 days a week "Trainer Programs" to sign up for. No way. "We are on a limited budget," we said. Then he said "what if I can get the price down a lot?"

He went to get his "sales manager" and he came back and sort of berated us for not getting these "Trainer Programs" and how we could end up getting injured by not doing the machines properly. We signed a "hold harmless clause" paper on the computer 5 minutes earlier. He went on and on about the huge benefits of having a Personal Trainer, yadda, yadda, yadda. It was also a "use them or lose them" type sessions. If you did not use them up in whatever plan you picked you could not get any money back nor use them into the next group of personal training lessons. No thanks.

The next thing that was irritating was when we actually came in for the first time after we signed up. We thought perhaps the trainers would actually show us the machines since we were members. You could not get them to come out from behind their sales desks. They walked to the edge of the workout floors and pointed to the different machines as to what they were. Like they were glued to their desks and the front non carpeted area. Almost like they are forbidden to actually show you what machines are for, and what differences there are in each machine.

Different manufacturers' machines that work the same muscle group sometimes operate with different rotation points and different types of grips. When we were doing the tour the Customer Service Reps always were talking AT you not to you. Even when they were sitting at their desks all they wanted to do was watch who was on the workout floor or walking past the front sign in desk. Looking past your face and who was there at the club or coming in.

This place (LA Fitness) feels and operates nothing like the advertisements and brochures seem to show. They seem to only care about is selling "Personal Trainer Sessions". If you need any help with knowing how to use a machine all they say is "the instructions are on the machine". Yet if you are a new member all they want to do is sell, sell, sell, and push their personal trainer sessions. I thought those days were long gone from the "high pressure sales tactics" of the old gyms and all the different types of yearly gym memberships those places tried to push on their members. We will be joining another "Silver Sneakers" gym shortly.

LA Fitness gladly switched his membership over to Silver Sneakers but then refused to reimburse us on the remaining unused prepaid membership. They indicated that they were going to hold our money in case we ever decide not to have Silver Sneakers anymore.

I told LA Fitness verbally and in writing, that we have no intention of ever having a Medicare supplement without Silver Sneakers and that I wanted reimbursement now. Despite my request for a full refund and to have a new contract drafted directly with the club I wish to attend, they only agreed to refund me two months and the annual fee which is about half of what I paid so far. My request for a full refund was denied by management. I asked for my call to be escalated to management and this was also refused. He has not used his membership in approximately a year, LA Fitness called Compass, our bank, and sent the contract, and compass gave them our new debit card number, where they deducted ALL "past due" monthly dues. Keep in mind, he has not even used this service in a YEAR.

We notified LA Fitness of cancellation over a year ago. They do not show it. They continued to debit after cancellation for over a YEAR. I expect a refund for every month this membership was not used, after our first notification of closing the account. I do not care if they don't consider it "official" because of all of their fine print details, I want them to return the funds they literally stole from our account today, and refund ALL funds drawn for all the months they continued to bill us after we gave notice of closing this REALLY old contract, and did not use ANY of their services. We are really upset.

My husband and I have been with BBVA for 20 years. Recently we fell on hard times, we entered debt consolidation and were told to open a brand new account, with brand new debit cards, and let the debt consolidators handle all debt. We did this. Not only was I not told about annual fee after 2 months membership but he deliberately omitted that information when asked if there were any other fees other than the initiation fee and monthly charges. He told me that there was no cancelation fee but nothing about annual fee after 2 months. When I returned to JP and asked about the fee, he told that me he had mentioned it in his presentation (I know he did not mention it) and that it's in the contract I signed. He stated that same thing happens to a lot of people (being surprised about annual fee). Maybe it's because he fails to mention anything about the annual fee at 2 months!!!! I might add, the contract was on the computer and makes it much harder to review.

Another issue: JP also told me I could use the equipment in the personal trainer section. He repeatedly told me I could use that section. Yet, I was kicked out. Not allowed to use it. So I went back to JP who told me it was ok to use the space and equipment, only to deny it when asked by personal trainer by my side. Lied to my face and made me feel like an idiot. Sadly, they are very deceitful when trying to get you to sign up. As far as equipment goes, a lot of machines are out of service very often. To Whom It May Concern, I’m composing this letter to explain an alarming incident that happened at one of your locations in Houston, TX. Before I go into an explanation, I want to first say how dissatisfied we are in the way this matter was handled, the disregard of policy, and lack of customer service to tenured members.

Monday 6/17, my mother Anette ** went to LA Fitness location 1555 Eldridge Pkwy/Houston Tx. She has been a member at your gym for roughly 15 years and has been going to this particular location off and on for the past 10 years. On 6/17, she forgot her LA Fitness keytag but gave her phone number to the front desk to check in. The young man she checked in with was **. As normal, my mother proceeded to follow her fitness regimen and decided to join a class.

About 20 minutes into the class, staff member ** came to retrieve my mother. She attempted to tell my mother she had to leave the class (which is included in her membership), and did not render an explanation other than being asked to leave. My mother being embarrassed and confused asked repeatedly why she is being asked to leave and still there was no answer other than “you must exit the premises”. The staff member then grabbed my mother by the arm to physically remove her from the class. The rest as you can imagine is a nightmare for my mother as she is not being given a reason as to why she is being asked to leave.

My mother called me to come and intervene. After hearing her point of view of what happened, I was interested in understanding why she was being asked to leave as well. After speaking with the front desk and requesting to speak with a Manager, I also called the local authorities as this matter was now heightened. The manager ** came and spoke with me and clarified to me what the proper procedure was for checking in and the mix up that happened. When my mother checked in with her cell phone number, she verified her first and last name. As normal, she proceeded into the actual gym space. According to the manager who got the story from his employees, the extra verification was required because there was no picture associated with her membership.

Again, my mother has been a member of LA Fitness for 15 years and going to this specific gym for 10 years. At what point was this photo an oversight that never got resolved by your staff? The Houston Police came and your staff member immediately ran outside to speak with the officer. Being a business owner, this matter was brought to management attention and should have been handled by management going forward. My mother still being mortified and emotionally scarred, tried to explain to the officer as to what happened. Your manager ** helped to explain as well and a police report was filed.

I’m writing this to request for the termination of staff member ** and **. The way this situation was handled was not professional by any means. The physical nature of this was extreme and excessive. While I am seeking legal recourse, I am hoping there is action taken on behalf of your corporate staff. Being a reputable corporation, I’m sure you will do what is in the best interest of your customer and provide training on how to handle these situations going forward. If the requested action is not taken, I will pursue legal recourse. Regards, Michael **.

My mother and I went to gym one day with 4 day guest pass she receive from a LA fitness employee so that she can use. She talked with the manager and said that they need an ID for guest pass. My mother forgot about her ID, and she was having problems with manager with making an exception. I was there and my father was there to vouch for her, and the manager still said no. I even said could you let my mother take the class, and he still said "no." I was not told you need an ID for a guest pass.

His only solution to this problem is to charge my father or my account extra just having guest to use the gym for four days. And he kept on insisting and insisting that I should pay for that. He showed lacked empathy, horrible customer service, and no compassion. All they care about is making money off of you and never attending what the customer really needs. I was even considering adding guest privilege to my account. Now I'm not even interested in signing with them anymore. Furthermore, he was racist. I think you're getting the picture as to where I'm going with this. The issue was disregarded, no professionalism whatsoever. "DISAPPOINTED." Next and most important the place is filthy. They have a disgusting facility at best at this location. I am going to finish my year contract agreement. Then I'm going to look for a better club to join. So they just lost a member today. I signed up with LA Fitness because it's walking distance from my home and it's practical since I travel a lot throughout the U.S and Canada. Therefore, I would have used the LA Fitness in the USA. However, the main reason I signed up with LA Fitness is because of my conditioning training that I do which is a part of my 6 day training schedule. The personal training room at the Courtney Park Location has a heavy bag and this location (Eglinton & Hurontario) has the medicine balls and the rope that I do as part of my conditioning.

I have used the personal training room with no issue at the Courtney park Location. I specifically told sales at that location that I wanted to sign up with LA Fitness because I needed use of the Heavy Bag. At the Hurontario and Eglinton location, I asked front desk if I could use the personal training room and there was no issue using it. I used that room on occasion as part of my conditioning and no one has ever said I could not use the room. I use the medicine balls mostly and the rope if available.

Today one of the personal trainers with the ponytail approached me and told me the room was off limits. I explained to him the reason (above) why I signed up with LA Fitness and that no one said that I could not use the room. He replied, "well the front desk should not have told you that you could use the room". I could understand if the room was busy or I was using equipment that the personal trainer wanted to use but that was not even the case. The room was not busy. Here is where I had an issue. This person seemed to lack business, conflict resolution and customer service skills.

If there was a misunderstanding and because he represents the Wellness and Health industry he could have done one of the following: A) He could have said, "I will be using this equipment but you can use that other equipment." B) "Or this room is off limits but because you were told you could use the personal training room or have been using it, use it today but you can't next time" (the gym was closing in less than an hour).

How UNFRIENDLY! That's what bugged me the most. No compromise. You’re part of the health and wellness industry and a little kindness goes a long way. After that encounter, I stayed for a total of 20 minutes. You've lost a member. I will cancel my membership and I will drive out of my way to use another gym. There are how many medicine balls in that room and you had less than a handful of people in that room. Are you telling me I could not use ONE medicine ball?

PT sessions that they don’t even have a trainers to fulfill. He says he will be your trainer, and then he sticks you with multiple new people with no experience that are there for a few days and then quit. Because of their “staffing issues”, there are no trainers.

Complain, and Jimmy says “if you want another trainer you have to pay more per month”. I have to pay more because you don’t have any trainers on staff! Then he says, “You can wait until they hire someone else”. So I should just keep paying you this monthly fee for nothing until you hire someone to fulfill your end of the agreement! That is **. Call to cancel PT sessions. They tell me a VP from the company will call me. A week later and still no call. So I filed a complaint with the BBB. All LA Fitness is doing is high pressure sales scam. It is at that time I requested for my membership to be cancelled and a final bill be mailed to the address on file. The representative informed me my final bill was $61.98. On April 14th I received an email in regards to the past due amount and it is at that time I requested for a final bill as well. As of today I have not received confirmation that my membership was cancelled. Also I see charges in the amount of $30.99 three times and $5.00 attempts daily on my card statement.

I received a reply after two months indicating membership cancellation is only in person to verify it’s actually you. My issue with that is how can you verify it’s me when you call to request payment over the phone? When you send an email to the address on file and I reply with the card or membership number why isn’t that sufficient to cancel my membership? I literally called my back to block them from charging my card on file. I’m only paying for the two months because that was explained over the phone or email back in April when I requested the membership cancellation.

Once you signed up for them, they never care about your problems. Before then they were trying to reach out to me to try their training sessions until I decided to sign up. Even though I told them I could not do a contract, I'd be moving out in like in 5 months, they said not a problem; they can take of it. The contract help me get better deal, that's all they want to help me. How's nice right?

Then, it's time, I'm moving out and trying to cancel the membership and trainings. I told them like 2 months in advance, so everything can be done smoothly. And, at least 3 times that they told me they’ll call me back the same day about my issues, but never; even though I went to see them in person couple times too. I ended up going to a different gym for helps. Until now, I do not even know if everything are solved for sure. I seriously do not want to talk to them for this problem anymore, especially if I'm not in the US. I seriously feel desperate. Sometime I want to report this to the police, not to sue them, just to protect my right that I have tried my best, but they did not do their job.

I wish I never deal with them in my life. Life is busy enough for moving out of the country, to cancel Xcel Energy and internet service are way easier. TRUST ME! Join the gym that's not so much about business, like YMCA, a university gym. Even though it could be more expensive, you’ll for sure not have to deal with people trying to sell personal training, charging you for the annual fee (out of nowhere), and dealing with cancellation that's totally nonsense.

The guy said, “I have to click the cancel button, but I can't do that right now because of the policy. Or you can print out the form and mail it to the company.” Of course, I am not going to spend extra money to mail a form just to cancel my gym Membership.

Today, I went back to the gym at 0935. The staff told me the only person can do the cancellation is the operation manager, but he haven't come to work yet. I wait there until 1020. I ask the staff if they can call him. The staff was not willing to do that. The staff told me to write down my number. When the manager gets to work; they will call me. (They never call). Somehow my heart tells me I should go to a different gym. So I went to a different LA FITNESS. I am happy that I was able to get my gym membership canceled. I had moved to a different city, so I wanted to cancel my membership with LA Fitness. I went to their office area, and was told I need to only cancel with the their office manager, who only worked at 9-5pm which were inconvenient for people who work those hours. The saleswoman told me however that I was able to cancel my membership with a form that that was convenient as I would moved to a different city as it would take me an hour to go to the gym to cancel in purpose. I send in the mail. This was much easier for me. So I had submitted the form to the main office in LA, California. I did not think of anything afterwards.

For the following months I was still charged for my membership, even though I had submitted the paperwork to a T. I then called my bank to halt the charges as they were incorrect charges. Again I didn't think of it any further. I then was called multiple times by LA Fitness collections that I need to pay my monthly dues. I have told them my prior cancelation process. They then told me that they did not have the authority to cancel my membership. I told them to then take it on their end to someone within LA Fitness to cancel my membership. They told me they were unable to do so.

My last resort was to call their main office number to cancel my membership. At that point I was able do. However my membership would have a negative balance. The customer service representative would told me that it would not go to collections and if I chose to start a new membership, it would be a different account. I have worked with other gyms such as 24 Fitness and Planet Fitness. With those gyms, I could talk to anyone who was at the front desk to cancel my membership. Not so with LA Fitness. This has been the only gym that has been the most challenging to cancel a membership. The experience has been frustrating, annoying, and a waste of time. LA Fitness specifically has this system to maintain a revenue for them. I suggest to never use this service unless it was the only gym in your area, and you know you will moving at any means for work, pleasure, or family.

Right beside my bank statement says an annual fee. I called these money hungry vampire scumbags and this lady tells me. Well we charge an annual fee after three months. I told her it’s not even a whole year yet. And flew down there to cancel immediately.

Then I respectfully asked if they offer refunds for my $49.99 since it was not a whole year to even take out “annually” because like I said. IT'S ONLY BEEN THREE MONTHS since I’ve joined. She reacted they way I was hoping she would not. She came off very negative, defensive, as well as being sarcastic (The whole time I’m talking to my aunt in the phone about this horrible experience). I told her look I don’t feel like hearing all that I just want to cancel and get out of here. She says your cancellation done. Then I asked her can I have a print out. She does it and sarcastically says have a good day, which this company ruined my entire day. Left me with less money in my bank and then finds a way to get nasty because you are leaving them. My advice buy your own gym equipment and set it up in the privacy of your own home. I will never let another greedy money making gym pimp take out my account as long as I live.

I asked Kevin if I can take a walk around the gym and he did allow it, but never suggested he will take me around to show the facility or tell me more about the club/answer any questions. While walking around by myself I saw the class actually wasn't cancelled and I did try it out.

This isn't a complaint about the facility, which is well equipped. However, it's a real pain as far as dealing with the sales staff! When I went in to sign up, I was given a couple of options, both with hefty "registration" and "service" fees and I was told I had to sign up for a year. I mentioned that it was quite possible that I wouldn't be in the area for a year, and I was assured that that was no problem -- I could sign up for the year and then if I moved, I could bring in a letter with my new address (to prove I had moved) and they would cancel the membership. That didn't sound all that good to me, so I said I would have to go home and think about it. When I got home, I got another sales call to get me to sign up.

I said I would think about it. Then I got an email, once again detailing the "great deal" I could get if I signed up now. I noticed -- in small letters -- that there was a link that said something like "view other membership options" so I clicked on the link. Lo and behold, there was a four month membership listed and if I paid the four months up front, there were no additional "registration" or "service" fees!

So I went back in and told another sales rep I was ready to sign up. At first, he acted as if he didn't know anything about a four-month plan. But I told him it was on the information that was sent to me and that was the plan I wanted; he managed to find it and I signed up. Then I was told I would have one free personal training session as part of the deal, which I assumed would include an assessment, an intro to the machines so I could be sure I was using them properly and a bit of a workout. Not exactly. There was a brief assessment that lasted about 15 min.

I was shown one exercise that would help address one of my weaker areas. Then I was told we needed to go back to the desk to finish the assessment. There I did a quick biometric test and the rest of the hour was spent trying to get me to buy into a personal training contract that ALSO included $199 in sign up charges and then $60 to $70 per session in addition...which also had to be on a 12 month contract. When I said I might not be in the area for that long, I was told it would be possible to get a six month contract, or I could pay for a block of training sessions, but then I would have to pay more money.

When I said I thought it was too expensive, it was suggested I could work with one of the less senior trainers which would save me $5 a session. Then I was told that if I signed up right away, he had this one coupon left where he could get me $50 off of the registration, bringing it down to only $149 instead of $199... Although I might have been interested in a less intense option for the span of time I planned to use the facility, it was clear to me that I was being pressured into fitting into a contract to suit the company, not me, and that the extra fees were total BS. So I declined. I never did get any intro to the machines...

I joined the LA Fitness club in Clark, NJ when it opened in the summer of 2015. At that time they had a Grand Opening special of $0 initiation fee and $29.99 a month for multi club access throughout the state, $19.99 for single club access. First and last months payment up front. I signed for the full access, $29.99. I gone for over 3 1/2 years to other LA Fitness clubs all over NJ, then the beginning of 2019, they become a “Signature Club”. I found that out when my credit card was charged for visiting the LA Fitness in Union, I inquired why I was charged and was told because I only have single club access. I said, since when? I always had multi since this club opened.

I have a copy of my original contract, the way it was put in on the computer says “single access” and there was no mention of the grand opening promotion, they only said that because you didn’t pay an initiation fee, you can only use this club. Well excuse me, nowhere on my paperwork does it say that and that’s not what was explained to me when I joined. I called the manager, no help. I called corporate, no help. I asked why wasn’t I charged the last 3 years at the other locations if I only had single access? No one could answer me. They’re scammers. Bait and switch. They’ll say and do anything to get a sale. My credit card was charged without authorization or my knowledge. Never got my money back. They need to be stopped. This has to be illegal.

Today is my second day at the LA Fitness Club and I will not go back!!!! I will call LA Fitness and cancel my membership, hopefully there won't any problems with my cancelation, hopefully it won't take 2 months, hopefully there are no hidden costs... What prompt my cancelation???? I have bad feeling about this "new Club" and I never go wrong about my intuition or perhaps my educated guess. I wish I would have noticed certain aspects of the Club which I do not like before signing the membership. It seems to me that they operate under the same Old game... "I will say and do everything to get you to signed..."

For me is important the way the service is executed, politeness, friendliness, positive attitude and good manners are vital. After all a fitness club should be a place where we all can feel relax and enjoy the benefits of our hard earned money!! Btw there is large amount of retirees using the facilities at this Club and I do not think they are treated kindly. I do not want to be in a place where the elderly are treated poorly, retirees deserve to be treated with the utmost respect. A smile will create wonders. Lucky for me there are many studios in Town run by high calibre people whose sole desire is to make you feel welcome, relax, such attitude is the reflection of their honesty and good will. Nothing can replace those elements.

DO NOT SIGN UP FOR PERSONAL TRAINING FROM LA FITNESS. LA Fitness facilities are OK but their Personal Training is a major ripoff. They charge major bucks for training and then pay the trainers next to nothing. As a result trainers leave with high regularity. In 6 months we had 4 different trainers with large gaps in between while LA Fitness searched for replacements. We ended up receiving only half of the promised training and LA fitness refused to issue any refund.

Looking to give a zero on my review. The LA Fitness pool area has the same clumps of hair and the same trash floating about week after week now, previously entering the facility I would see it dirty, report it to the front desk area. They need major cleaning done, the floors are very dirty with hair, used band-aid and sport tapes, inside the pool there is sand and white objects floating around. Complained to the front desk but they never sent anyone to clean it. Corporate office need to meet the standards of healthy and safety.

I have mentioned the club to many friends and coworkers. Several have expressed interest I, couldn't ask for more. I was a member at the JCC for 5 years and it didn't fit my needs. LA Fitness is better equipped, cleaner and the equipment is more than I had hoped for. Wish the pool was a bit warmer since I swim for physical therapy. A steam room would be fabulous. Very Dirty and Apathetic Staff. My wife got me a subscription for my birthday. She specifically was concerned with cleanliness. The dude assured that they had high scores. That's hard to believe because the place is filthy. Every day. On one day the men's locker room had torn wet tissue paper all over the floor. I mentioned it the girl at the front desk and her response was "The cleaning guy doesn't come in until 2:00." I think it was around noon at the time. Great answer, Syndey. The next time we went my wife saw gum in the cup holder of one of the treadmills. Three days later she went to the same treadmill that had the same gum in it. The more we were there the more we realized how gross this place was.

The second month's charge happened earlier than it was suppose to, or explained to us. A payment department called and my wife explained that we weren't happy with our membership and that it wasn't what was sold to us; a clean gym. My wife spoke to two different people over the phone who said they would make sure the account was cancelled and that the message of the dirty gym would be emailed to the managers. Guess what, we get charged again. I go in this time and specifically ask to speak with a sales manager. She argues with me, and I end up having to ask her repeatedly to get a manager. She continues to try to make excuses, this girl clearly does not want me to talk to a manager. I tell her the situation about the over-the-phone cancellation, which she claims they don't do any cancellations over the phone. So either she is lying or the people over the phone are.

Eventually one of the sales people comes up and basically just stands there and mean mugs. She says she paged a manager, but after a few minutes she's trying to hand me someone's card and get me out the door. I decide to take a walk around the place and take some pictures. On my way out I mentioned to Mr. Meanmug that all of the trashcans in the men's locker room are full and that it's dirty. His response, "Great." Lastly, the machines are not in a great shape either. Multiple are out of order. Don't do business with these people.

So I've been looking into getting myself into better shape and needed someone to hold me accountable. I happened to "win" one personal training session at LA Fitness and liked the people I worked with. In a moment of weakness maybe, or perhaps I should have asked to read the contract more, I signed up the same day. However, I've learned not to be too naive either, so I decided to look into what other people were saying about the program and what their results were.

To my surprise, I saw a lot more negative in regards to how the gym itself handled its business and sometimes how the people at LA treated their customers as well. Feeling uncomfortable being bound in a contract to a gym that does not handle their business well, I immediately looked over the contract and found out I had until midnight on the third business day from when I signed the contract to cancel. Immediately I gathered up all of my evidence and, not only sent a contract to the PO Box in CA, but I also went to the gym I originally signed up at.

Let me give you the good in my experience: I told the gym manager how I felt, totally honest, that I did not feel comfortable being bound by a contract with a company that does not seem to be too fair. I told her it was NOTHING against her, or the trainer, or even the specific gym I signed up at, but rather it was LA themselves and how they decided to handle business. The manager WAS TOTALLY understanding about it! She gave me no issue at all, didn't hassle me into sticking to it, nothing like that.

The trainer when he did sign me up was also pretty transparent in how if I decided to cancel before the 12 months was up, I would be charged half of what I already owed. He also didn't try to BS me with "It's free for the first 30 days." So to that, I had no surprises. Also, fast forward to the end of this saga, another good experience I had was that I immediately got notice that I canceled my services with them via email and just this morning I got the notice that I will be refunded the $300 I put down to start up.

The bad: While I was talking to the manager about all of this, the trainer that happened to sign me up walked by. The manager pulled him in and gave him the breakdown of what was going on. While the manager was in the room with us, the trainer seemed to be totally understanding and cool about the whole situation. However, as soon as the manager left, he started giving me crap about how "he misjudged my character" and that "it was his fault that he misjudged me." In short, this guy started portraying me as a bad person because I changed my mind and didn't feel comfortable with it. He felt the need to go on about how successful he is and how great the program works and "it's just a bummer when someone does this because it looks bad on the program."

It was in that instance that I knew I made the right choice - this guy didn't care about me, he just cared about how many people he could sign up in his program. I even insisted that if he made money on the $300 I paid upfront, that he could just keep it, but I did not want to go forward with the training sessions. Even still he gave me the same crap and tried to guilt trip me into thinking I was the one at fault.

So the plus side, this experience I had was good in that they honored my request to cancel the services. They didn't double charge me (so far that I've seen), nor did they lack in giving me documentation when I canceled. They also were pretty good in being open about the cost had I decided to cancel later in the sessions. However, the way I was treated after I was totally honest with them, and couldn't stress enough that it was nothing against the trainer himself, I am one of the many that is disappointed with this gym. There is absolutely no need to be so rude and condescending when someone does not feel comfortable with something.

I have paid $275 from my wellness card for 5 months to LA fitness in advance for individual membership with one guest plus kids club. They kept on charging me more compared to what the agreement was with me. And the representative through whom I enrolled for the gym was of no help and he clearly told me that he can't do anything for payment gym is charging and asked me to call their corporate office to solve the problem.

They waste your important time to call them and even after explaining all the calculations for the membership charges they still follow what's there in the system. I cancelled my membership and joined JCC gym which definitely has a nice management staff. I have heard from my friend that even if you cancel your membership, they keep on charging you from the credit card which is on their file with them.

Updated on 01/24/2019: I just canceled my LA Fitness membership due to one of their trainer’s unethical and unprofessional behavior. I paid for one-month personal training in cash, but the trainer did not come to the scheduled session, took two weeks for the refund after numerous texts, did not get a receipt, and he did not even apologize for the inconvenience. He took advantage of me, my money, and my time. While going through the cancellation process I was waiting for the membership refund (6 days and counting) when another charge was added to my credit card for the monthly payment. I never completed any cancellation form nor got a receipt. My advice for future fitness customers is to make use of their money better by using different gym, not LA Fitness. I feel LA Fitness took advantage of me, my money, and I will not bring my business there.

Original Review: LA Fitness on Hamilton Rd, Westerville OH is associated with trainer that doesn’t appear for their session, say will return the payment for 4 sessions in advance, and don’t answer texts when called upon. The club should be partly responsible by association and by employing unethical employee... Sad, disappointed, will cancel membership, not worth my time and money.

On my last day of using gym, I asked the front desk person to cancel my account and of course they said, “Sure we will take care of it.” Three months later, I noticed that they were still charging me for the monthly fee while I was not using the gym at all. When I called, I had to call multiple times and talk to different managers. Daniel (Assistant Manager) was very nice and understanding and he said that he will see what he can do and he will refund us for the months that we did not use the gym.

On the other hand Phillip (Operational Manager) contact me saying that he is not going to refund me anything. He was so unprofessional, rude and surely had no experience on talking to customers on the phone. When I asked him that I would like to talk to the upper manager he ignored me and did not provide me with further information. It is so disappointing to see how LA fitness representative is so disrespecting to customers and how irresponsible they are for taking care of their customers. Obviously this is the lack of training for the person who cancelled my membership but they collected extra $90 from me while they knew I did not use the gym.

I really disappointed for two reasons, first Yoga instructors don't show up to do the classes or they change the class to another format without changing in the schedule online. The other reason is customer services, when you have a question or a complaint, nobody knows anything. Today I went to a Yoga class and I check the schedule before I went, when I got there, the class was canceled and when I ask to talk to the manager, there was no manager and when I explain the problem to one of the supervisors, the answer was: "I don't make that schedule, it is not my fault." All I was telling him was that they should cancel the classes at least 1 day before or several hours before the class, so people don't have to travel to the gym for nothing. In the last 2 month in 9 classes the instructors didn't show up (this is in 2 clubs, one in Pembroke Pines 184 st 6 classes and one in Sawgrass 3 classes.)
