What is AlterMe?
AlterMe is a health and wellness company that offers personalized fitness plans using DNA testing and biometric data. The process starts with the DNA test, which helps narrow down the approach to weight loss that will work best for you. It then uses a fitness tracker to deliver personalized recommendations based on your data.
How does AlterMe work?
The AlterMe program starts with the company’s DNA test kit. The test analyzes 60 genetic markers to assess 13 health and fitness traits. There’s no obligation with the test; you can choose to take the information and use it on your own, or you can subscribe to the full AlterMe program.
If you opt for the program, you’ll receive a fitness tracker ring. The information from the DNA test and ring is used to provide a number of personalized services as part of the plan, including nutrition recommendations and personalized workout and wellness sessions that adjust based on daily readiness levels. You can also use the app and your smartphone camera to log meals and track body composition.
AlterMe testing process
The process begins when you purchase and register your AlterMe DNA kit. The test itself is a saliva test; you swab the inside of your cheek for about a minute. Then you seal up the test kit and ship it via USPS.
Once received, AlterMe will analyze your sample, with results typically ready in five to seven business days. Results are delivered as a personalized report outlining how your body is likely to respond to different foods, exercise styles and rest patterns. The kit includes a 30-minute consultation with a fitness advisor to review the results and answer questions.
