We purchased a Martha Stewart Outdoor Patio set back in June 2002 from KMart. This past June, 2008, the glass table top completely shattered while it was sitting outside in the backyard. Luckily, my 2 year old daughter was asleep in the house and not playing out there at the time like she normally is. There must be some way to be compensated for this expensive ($500+) patio set! Last year I also filed a complaint about this same patio set because the arms and legs were rusting away. But, unlike that, the set is completely unusable and it also caused a lot of worry and aggravation.

My table top( Martha Stewart) exploded on 6-30-08. No one was aoutside when the glass table top exploded. Million pices of glass all over. Also my daughter had a Marth Stewart glass table that also exploded.
Neither of us have a table to eat on. Cleaning up all the glass has been a nightmare. Martha Stewart products are expensive and replacing the glass cost over $250.00. I have the bar set and I can't find a table of the height to replace it with so my whole set is JUNK.

My husband bought me a Martha Stewart patio table and chairs from K Mart for Mother's Day and within 2 months the glass table top shattered into a million pieces. He and my daughter were moving it onto the newly built deck and when he went to put the umbrella back in, the glass exploded for no reason. He said he hardly even touched the edge of the plastic O ring that is supposed to protect the table.
My daughter was not hurt by the glass, but she was pretty shaken up and had to come inside to calm down. She was pretty upset and couldn't catch her breath for a moment. This table is practically brand new; and the grouping cost us around $500! Now I have 6 chairs and no table!

I purchased this set in 2000. In 2003 our glass shattered for no apparent reason. Since the Kmart in our location had closed, I contacted the Kmart in LA. They did still carry the collection, however the color had changed. The woman at the store agreed to give me a new table top. Since it did not match our table my husband and I took the frame off and put ours on the glass.
That has been 5 years ago and our table is out in the elements all year. So far so good. I am considering replacing the table as we have three small children on the patio all the time. Our cushions are shredded and falling apart. I would love to find new cushions to replace mine, but have not been able to find any. If you have some in great shape in the green leaf color, I would love to buy them.

On July 4, 2008 before people started to arrive for our barbecue, I went outside and my patio table was shattered. This also happened to my mother in law's table last year. The weather was only 75 degrees and we had a nice breeze. This glass table should not have shattered. I have reported this to Kmart Customer Care and I am not happy about it. This table is not even 3 years old. I will never buy another Martha Stewart product ever again or recommend this product to anyone.

The patio furniture rusted right away and the paint peeled off. The fabric started tearing away for no reason and we hardly even sat on them. We replaced them for a hefty cost and then this year the glass table exploded and shattered to pieces.
We had to repaint the furniture, replace all of the cushions and now do not have a table top. It would be cheaper to replace the whole thing.

My husband and I bought this patio set Martha Steward Patio set. It came with five chairs/covers and round table w/lazy susan and umbrella. We purchased this about six years ago. We truly loved the set. The following year the chairs and table started to peel. The cushions started to shred and dry rot and the umbrella fell apart.
I wanted to order more cushions and then found this sight. Now I a terrible afraid the table will burst into thousands of pieces, hurting my grandson or family. I see no other option than to throw it in the garbage! Maybe I was wrong about Martha, maybe she really is deceitful. Who would sell a product knowing there product to cause injury!

We bought a Martha Stewart patio set at K-Mart 6 years ago. Today, I heard an unexplainable noise and went outside to see that the table top had shattered into small pieces. It was not cracked, there was nothing that could have made this happen. The unbrella, which was down, was still standing in the middle and the six chairs were around the table with small chunks of glass around the base of the table and metal unbrella stand. My husband and adult son are cleaning it up right now and I got on the internet to see about a replacement table and found information that Martha Stewart brand table tops shatter.

We have (had) a Martha Stewart patio set, purchased at K-Mart, that included a glass top table with lazy susan, chairs, cushions and umbrella. We have had it for three years and always took great care of the set (storing it during the cold months, cleaning, etc.). The set was expensive and we thought we would have it for years to come. We loved using this set up until yesterday, when out of the blue, the glass table top spontaneously shattered into a million pieces on our deck. Fortunately, no one was injured but it took many hours to clean the shattered glass from the deck, chairs and yard.
What a mess! It it now just getting to be nice weather here in New England and we have no table. We have searched for a replacement or even a plexiglass insert to replace the shattered one, but the cost is $350+. We might as well just go out and buy a metal table and paint it to match the rest of the set. So, no table, money for replacement, and a lot of work time and maybe we'll have a patio set to use by July. A firmly worded letter of protest will be sent to the manufacturer and Martha Stewart. I'll never buy another product of hers again.

I too have a shattered Martha Stewart Patio table. Last sunday, Father's day, our children and grandchildren had dinner at the table. I went into the garage to get the martha stewart cover to protect the table and before my eyes suddenly the entire table top shattered. It fell to the concrete into thousands of pieces. I stood frozen trying to comprehend what and how this happened. Then I Cried!
My mother purchased this set as a gift for me last year at the end of the season. Even at the end of season discounted price the set was $600. We have only got to use it a few times this year. Of course all the Kmarts in our area have closed. I found this when I was searching for information on Martha Stewart products to see if I could afford to replace the top. The entire top of the table just collapsed into itself and shattered into thousands of pieces for no apparent reason or cause. The temperature is only about 70 degrees and nothing hit it. Luckily, my daughter had just been out on the deck, but had just come in before we heard the loud noise and the shattered table top. The glass tabletop of my Garden Melrose glass table purchased in 2004 from KMart shattered into a million pieces on my patio. The set was stored in the winter and maintained very well. This was very disappointing as we bought the umbrella, bar high bar chairs and 6 table chairs to have the complete set and now we are without the table.
Luckily were not outside at the time and no injury resulted from this event. I waslooking up the table on line to see what it would cost to buy a new one and saw that this has happened to many other people. The amount paid for these tables should be refunded to individuals so they can purchase something that is safe and will actually last. The best way to do this would be manufacture recall.

I purchased a Martha Stewart patio set in 2002 and within 6 months, the table shattered into a million pieces. I called and the company told me that the warranty didn't cover wind damage (although there wasn't high winds) and I was out of luck.
I then actually purchased another Martha Stewart table which (again) shattered into a million pieces. At that point, I was so angry at the tables and cleaning up all the pieces of small glass, that I gave up. I never have purchased another glass table again and only use plastic. The company never helped me and would not refund my money. I have 2 tables to prove this really does happen.

The top is secured to the aluminum frame with a series of clamps that use two cross-tip screws each. What may be happening is that as the glass and the metal frame heat up during the day they expand at different rates, causing one to pull against the other. I loosened up each one of the clamp screws until the clamps just slip around a bit. This does not appear to affect the stability of the top, at least on the frame I purchased (bloomington collection). I accept no responsibility for any trouble you might incur from employing this suggestion, expressed or implied, it is simply what I did on my own table.

We purchased the Amelia Outdoor dining set which came with a table and 5 chairs. We purchased the umbrella separately. One afternoon, the table exploded absolutely without provocation. There was no one outside, no one on the deck other than possibly a small bird. The glass was everywhere, took us hours to clean it all up. The store no longer sells the table and has offered no financial restitution nor a replacement. We're stuck with 5 chairs and an umbrella and a table frame after spending over $500 on this set.
I see this is certainly not the first table that has exploded. When we contacted the store to purchase a replacement, they gave us some story that the truck delivering the tables dropped them all and the glass was broken and that the table would be back ordered until next year. I contacted the manager and asked for a refund and he flat out refused, told me if I wanted to use the set I should take the table to a glass person and have them replace it with safety glass so you don't get hurt next time. I think the entire situation is appalling.
We're out the $500 paid for this set. I suffered several cuts while trying to remove and clean up the glass, along with several hours of my time.

I purchased an entire set of Martha Stewart Amelia Island patio furniture for my new covered front porch about 3 1/2 years ago. This included a dining table with lazy susan (beautiful etched glass with a leaf design) & five chairs, a sofa, 4 rocking chairs, coffee table (same etched glass top), 2 chaise lounge chairs, and a side table (same etched glass top). This was quite a large monetary purchase. Last summer, while I was at work, my dining table shattered into a million pieces for no apparent reason. My mother (who lives in the house on the property next to me) heard the noise from her porch, and came over to my house to investigate the noise. She was shocked when she discovered the mess on my porch! Thank goodness no one was sitting at the table when it happened! But WHAT A MESS!
It took us several hours with a shop vac and broom to clean everything up! There is no warranty, of course, and I thought mine might have been an isolated case. I found the Consumer Complaint webpage with 114 pages of the SAME COMPLAINTS about this furniture! Doesn't it seem like it is about time to hold SOMEONE accountable for this problem? I also have the same problem with the rust and dry-rotted material on my furniture that eveyone else seems to be complaining about. But at least that is cosmetic, NOT DANGEROUS! And now I don't have a dining table to use with my chairs. And I am just waiting for the coffee table and side tables to explode! Maybe I should pitch them all and start again! At my own expense, of course!
I am out the cost of the table at minimum (about $200.00) But the rest of the furniture is starting to look so bad (because of rust and worn fabric), that if add up the cost of everthing (about $1400.00 minimum) You would think that something you spent that much money on would last longer than 3 or 4 years! Pretty disgusting!

FWIW, my husband and I bought a Martha Stewart Santa Monica Collection set - hexagonal glass-top table and six mesh spring chairs - four or five years ago (from Kmart).
Best garden/patio money we've spent. Period. The coating on the frames, and the frames themselves, has stood up to the rain and sun. The mesh in the chairs is intact and just as comfortable as when we bought them. All I need to do with them is clean 'em up occasionally (Windex on the table glass; and elbow grease, a scrub brush, and a garden hose for the chairs) and we're good to go.
Those visitors who notice such things (mostly the ladies) are quite complementary about the set.

When I went to investigate, I found our Martha Stewart glass top patio table shattered all over our concrete patio. The next morning, I shuffled through the tiny glass pieces and found nothing which could have caused the table to break. I mentioned this to a friend and he told me about the class action suit with K-Mart over these glass top tables. We purchased a complete set (table, 6 chairs and umbrella) in 2003 when the K-Mart in LaFayette, GA was going out of business. In September of 2007 we heard a tremendous crash outside, when we got to our deck we realized that our barely 1 1/2 year old table had just shattered. We were shocked to see all of the glass everywhere and yet grateful that no one got hurt. This took us so long to clean up, all of the little glass pieces were stuck in between the deck boards and needed to be picked out one by one.
Needless to say we will never buy anything with the Martha Stewart name on it and now are out of a table. Now, there was the lazy susan on the frame of the table; the main glass has shattered for no apparent reason. I was very perplexed as I could find no reasonable explanation for the broken table top. Not only was the table top shattered, but the umbrellas was broken at the crank shaft. I surmised that the wind had blown the umbrella over and that could possibly be the cause of the breakage.
I purchased the Victoria 7-piece set in the summer of 2006. It was May, 2007 when the breakage occurred. I tried to get information from K-Mart regarding a replacement, but they were not helpful. I tried contacting the manufacturer for a glass top replacement, only to discover that they had gone out of business and filed bankruptcy. I searched the internet to find someone who could make a top to fit my table frame. We intend to go and inform K-Mart of this happening, but from what I read at this site nothing is ever done about it and they are still selling the tables! Well not to me again and not to anyone of my friends or acquaintances, as I will certainly warn them.
K-Mart or Martha Stewart does not seem to care! They do nothing. Luckily no one was at the table at the time, so there was no physical damage, but the clean up took at least an hour initially and I still have to go out today and do some more cleanup as the pieces were small enouge to go down between the deck boards and some of the shards are sticking up, waiting for someone to step on them!
This table SET was at least $500 and I have already replaced the cusions which rotted - even though I take them in in the Winter. Also the chairs are rusting and look terrible after only 4 years. Very shoddy materials. Martha should be ashamed of herself for putting her name on such junk!

I bought a Martha Stewart patio set from Kmart last summer 7/07. We used it all summer, stored it indoors, have been enjoying it this spring,.....until yesterday 5/19/08. When I arrived home from work I found my table top in a million pieces. It was all over everything. The chairs, the deck was covered in glass, and it also fell thru the cracks of the deck and over the side of the deck into the kids sand box and a loose rock and flagstone walkway under the deck. What a mess!!! After the inital shock, it took me 4 hours to clean the mess. I had to use a shopvac and move every single rock out of the way to suck up the glass that had fallen through.
This is a huge safety issue as my children are 3 & 5 and play under the deck and in the sand box. I'll worry all summer that a stray peice of glass will get embedded in their little knees or feet. Due to their age they don't always keep their shoes on despite the insistance of their mother. This has been a huge catastrophy. I will never buy another glass top table....shatter resistant my foot!!!!!!!!!

This is completely ridiculous!!
We have eaten dinner on that table for the last 3 nights. As soon as the weather permits, we are out on our deck. It adds 500 square feet of living and entertaining space in the summer. I will probably only learn if glass is in the pool when I open it and vacume for the first time in a couple of weeks. Should this occur the glass will likely penetrate and ruin my filters. Whatever glass that I am unable to vacume up will certainly damage my pool liner. There is glass in my yard as well. Someone will eventually step on slivers causing injury.

About 3 years ago we bought a Martha Stewart patio set for our lanai. On our third season the wind blew it over and the glass top broke into a million pieces. I was planning to try to replace it, but with so many people having theirs shattered for no good reason, I'm afraid to buy a replacement for fear of another bad result. What should I do?

I bought a patio set that included 6 chairs with cushions, and the rectangular table. The matching 3 person swing with cushions and canopy and the umbrella to match as well.It being marked down 20% fall clearance. Still paying a good price for. No more than having it out side for less than 2 months of use and then stored away, and then placing it back on the deck the upcoming spring to only have that the table then shattered in may of 2006, with glass all over. I dont know what was the cause of it I thought that something had fallen down on it, but did not come to see anything to be the culprit.
Being very upset in knowing that I paid a good amount though on cleaance, for the set the prior year, and noticing that the rust that also was becoming of something to soon for only having it for no more than 8 months at most. I am very peticular in cleaning and putting the cushions and the patio furniture away clean,at the end of the season ,as well as to cleaning it before the spring season. This amazes me to know that this is not some thing that I experienced alone.

I bought the Martha Stewart bar harbor set and on labor day weekend, the glass shattered on the table into tiny pieces all over. Thank goodness, no one was around the table but this was etremely dangerous. I have many pieces of this set total cost approx. $1000.00 but to replace the glass would be to expensive. I am also seeing a lot of rust on the frame. To top it off, I do not even leave the set outside during the winter. The set is always stored inside our garage and covered.
Consequence - we have a complete patio set that cannot be used because of the faulty glass top on the main table. As stated above, the the costs is valued @ $1000.00.

I bought a Martha Stewart outdoor table and chairs at the cost of $400. Two summers ago, my fiance was in the house and heard a large shatter. The tempered glass of the table top shattered into millions of pieces. The chairs are ripping and are unsafe to sit in.
Shattered glass was everywhere on my patio, which was very unsafe to walk without shoes. The chairs are unsafe for anyone.

I have the complete patio set from the Martha Stewart line. Our rectangle patio table exploded and shattered while we were inside. We heard it from in the house. It was evening time, mild weather.
Glass shards in our inground pool,(vinyl liner), chair cushions covered with shattered glass, shattered glass in drain grate, sand box with scattered glass. We disposed of the sand totally for safety reasons with our grandchild, deep cut on finger from retrieving from drain, rented an outdoor vac to clean area, paid for a pool employee to inspect liner and retrieve glass from bottom of pool.
We call to find a price for a replacement glass and to our shock, we were quoted $280.00! There are still minute specks of shattered glass in our patio area and flower bed. We are not comfortable and fear an injury for us, family, or guests.
