Our Marth Stewert outdoor glass table top exploded into thousands of small pieces during the evening of April 30, 2008. Fortunately nobody was using the table at the time. The table was near our pool which still had a winter cover over it - I am cooncerned however that when I open the pool there may be glass slivers from the table that have penetrated through the cover. I will probably only learn if glass is in the pool when I open it and vacume for the first time in a couple of weeks. Should this occur the glass will likely penetrate and ruin my filters. Whatever glass that I am unable to vacume up will certainly damage my pool liner. There is glass in my yard as well. Someone will eventually step on slivers causing injury.
The potential cost of pool and pool filter repairs may be in the tens of thousands of dollars and this estimate does not include the cost of a new table. What should I do???

After 5 years of owning the Amelia outside set, the glass table top just shattered this April 14, 2008. It was the craziest thing and my wife still thinks I broke it.
I had to vacuum the glass up from the patio, furniture and the lawn. I still don't know if any more is in the lawn. We won't find out till someone steps on a piece. I just repurchased a new one on sale at the big K for $125.00.

my martha stewart patio table with fern design inside the glass shattered into a million pieces today. fortunately, no one was sitting at it when it shattered; however there is glass everywhere and i'm sure we'll be picking it out of our hands and feet for months to come.
i have the complete set to include the gazebo with matching buffet side tables attached. now i have no table and six chairs in a gazebo. the total cost for all of this furniture was over $800.00. Martha stewart does not provide a replaement and so i'm now stuck with a big expensive mess. i'm still picking out slivers of glass in my hands and as a diabetic, the worse thing that can happen to me is glass in my feet.
it is appalling that companies can get away with this -- this would have been only my second season using the set so in essensce i have paid over $800 to use this set for a five month period last season and now i have to replace it. something needs to be done to protect the consumer from this type of a situation.

On April 27, 2008 my husband and I were sitting in our kitchen and heard a loud crash. We were astonished to see that the glass top on our Martha Stewart Patio Set just shattered in thousands of pieces....it was just terrible. Glass shattered all over our pool area and patio, amazingly no one was outside or hurt at the time, but this was a terrible experience!
Now, we are left with a table and six chairs and two rockers. However, the table has only the lazy susan in the center, it did not shatter! This was not a cheap set and I am very upset as to what happened. I do not believe that we should have to pay for a new table since it was not our fault and everything is so expensive. I am just happy that no one was outside at the time, however, we did get a few cuts while trying to clean up the mess. I believe something should be done in regards to this case. Thank you.

My wife and I purchased a Martha Stewart Victoria Collection outdoor glass leaf etched patio table with 5 chairs sometime early spring 2005 from K-mart. I went out one day to have my coffee and read my paper like I always do, to find the table in a million pieces leaving only the frame with the lazy susan in tact. There was glass everywhere. We have swept time and time again and weeks later we are still finding glass so that we can not walk barefooted on our patio. I think it is nonsense that companys like Martha Living and K-Mart are not doing something about this concern. What if one of my young grandchildren were under the table when it shattered? I also think it is irresponsible for the Consumer Product Safety Commission not to have issued a recall on a product they knew was defective for years.
Monetarily it will cost about $400 to replace the table with a tile top table because I do not want another glass table.

We bought the Martha Stewart Olympia furniture set in the spring of 2007. Toward the end of summer the same year the glass shattered into many peices. It was windy that day and the umbrella was up and when I was taking it out it shattered. What flimpsie stuff that had to be. I was near it and I could have gotten hurt. Glass flying all over the place. It was very hard to clean up and many of the tiny peices went thorugh the deck floor and are now mingled in the rocks below. We hope no children or pets go under it. I can't beleive that the plexiglass only lasted a few short months.
I had beens checking for a set for a long time and was so disappointed when this happened. When looking for a possible replacement, [I wasn't sure if I really wanted the same one], I came across the Consumer Report site and now realize that many people have had this happen. So much for honesty of K-Mart, Sears and Martha Stewart. We paid a little over $600 for our set and thought it was a decent one. That is accrding to the FALSE advertising. Guess some stores can't be trusted to be honest. It's called greed and is ruining America.
The class shattered into many peices. I was near it and I could have gotten hurt but was fast enough moving away. I was stunned. It was a loud crash bang. This is all so sad and disapointing. We were going to check with K-Mart but after reading this information it looks like nothing will be done anyway. What ever happened to customer satisfaction?

In 2006 I purchased the Martha Stewart Melrose Bar and a Martha Stewart rectangular dining table. That summer one of the glass panels of the bar shattered. I replaced it with plexiglass and continued to use it without the umbrella as I thougt maybe that was what caused it even though it wasn't windy. About a month later a second panel shattered. In addition, during the summer of 2007 the glass top of my Martha Stewart dining table shattered into what seemed like a million pieces. People were sitting at the table at the time. It's a miracle that although food and drink were lost during each episode(bar and table) nobody was hurt. Clean-up,however was a nightmare.
I chalked it up to bad luck until I happened to find this site while checking to see if I could get replacement glass for the bar.I threw out the table but still have the bar minus two glass panels. Is it going to take a serious injury or death before something is done about this? Incidentally, I complained to K-mart but it did no good.
In addition to the table and bar I lost food ,drink and bar garnishes.

No more than having it out side for less than 2 months of use and then stored away, and then placing it back on the deck the upcoming spring to only have that the table then shattered in may of 2006, with glass all over. I dont know what was the cause of it I thought that something had fallen down on it, but did not come to see anything to be the culprit.
Being very upset in knowing that I paid a good amount though on cleaance, for the set the prior year, and noticing that the rust that also was becoming of something to soon for only having it for no more than 8 months at most. There was nothing on or around the table that could have struck it and there is no umbrella in it. Again K-Mart will not warrant the table top. I have replaced the Gazebo overhead cover twice. After one summer, the covers began to tear. Any attempt to remove it results in disintegration (really, not just ripping but falling apart). No warranty available after 90 days.

i purchased a martha stewart outdoor furniture set from kmart. The set was beautiful. The first season I noticed the set started to pit and rust. I followed all manufacturers instructions, they said to put a coat of wax on it for the winter months. I stored the cushions in my shed when not in use. When I went to take my cushions out for the following summer they were horrible, they were fraying, discolored, a real mess. I called kmart and they said I would have to get in touch with the martha stewart company, which I did. They told me there was nothing they could do for me except if I wanted to repurchase new cushions. This set was very expensive, I cannot afford new cushions. At this point I think I am down to about 2 cushions because every time i would look outside all i would see is fluff that was coming out if the cushions. When I purchased this set I purchases the whole set including lounges, couch and cocktail table folding chairs. I also purchased 2 extra dining chairs. I am furious that martha stewart does not stand behind her products, it is terrible.
The economic damage is that I cannot afford to replace the cushions for this set, it is only now going into its 3rd season so I should not have to replace them. I have another set on my deck that I have had over 8 years and still looks brand new and those cushions are left out all year. We originally thought that the damage was done by vandals or by kids playing but could not find anyone in the neighborhood who knew anything about it. After seeing pictures from other Martha Stewart picnic tables, I realize that this is exactly what happened to our table.
The clean up was difficult because of the glass getting inbetween the wood planks of our deck. The full cleanup took over 4 hours and resulted in a few cuts to my hands.

I purchased a round etched patio table, Martha Stewart collection with a lazy susan. Today Dec 12, 2007 we heard a loud crashing noise from the basement of our home. We found the entire table top shattered onto the floor, with the unbroken lazy susan resting atop the frame legs of the table. We brought in the table from outside to store (in October) in our basement during the winter months for the last 6 years. It is estimated that we purchased this type of table possibly before 2000. This occurance was befuddling at best and are glad it was not being used or acting as a table for material. We have saved the broken glass and the entire susan top.
While there is no harm to us we have found trying to remove the glass shards from our basement carpet has been at best exasperating and no longer let our pet use the basement nor do we allow none shoed people travel into the area. We will most likly have to replace the table and the carpet. I will inquire with my insurance company about this matter soon.

The most disturbing to me is that when I called the Kmart store, the manager claimed to not know anything about any reported problems. This must be one of the biggest coverups/scams I have heard of in a long time.

I was sitting in my living room when I heard a LOUD poppng sound on my front patio. I ran outside and was greeted bt what seemed to be thousands of shattered pieces of glass everywhere! After a week, I am still cleaning up pieces of glass. Yesterday,(5/7/07) I took the table back to the K-mart store where I purchased it and told the manager what had happened. She told me K-mart was not willing to do anything about it and to contact the manufacturer! The set Santa Barbara} is not even a year old, not to mention that I paid over $300.00 for it.
Both Martha Stewart and K-mart are deliberately perpetrating a fraud on unsuspecting consumers and should not be allowed to continue to sell a defective and dangerous product. I will never purchase anything under her label again. Nor will I ever shop in K-mart since they are not willing to stand behind the products they sell. I also believe the state district attorney should be notified about what is going on before someone is blinded or killed.

At first we had tried to figure out what might have caused this and soon came to the realization, after going on this website, that it has happened to many, many other people and there was not any explanation other them faulty Manufacturing.
How dare they allow this to keep happening. I now have a full set of Martha Stewart GARBAGE and a table without a top. To rub salt into the wound, as I keep reading all the complaints not one person has gotten any kind of reimbursment or replacement.

We purchased a Martha Stewart patio set with a glass table top last spring for $550 from Kmart. The set was well cared for and protected with a custom cover for the winter. On 4/8/07, I noticed that the cover was sagging in the middle and upon inspection I discovered that the glass top had shattered on it's own. The set is located on a raised deck surrounded by a railing and a gate.
The glass shards were all over the wood decking with many stuck into and in between the planks. Glass particles also rained down onto my patio and landscaping below the deck. I swept up what I could, but the deck is unusable until I can remove all of the glass particles by having it power washed or sanded.
The patio below is concrete and decorative stone. Since a lot of the glass particles fell into the stone, it will have to be removed and replaced. I'm not sure how to get the glass out of the flower beds or grass areas.

Three years ago I purchased the Victoria Patio set which included the 5 chairs w/cushions,and the table w/lazy susan. Separately I purchased the umbrella. Total cost was approximately $800.00. Last summer,my husband and I were in the house preparing for a BBQ when we heard a loud noise. We went out by the in-ground pool, and the glass to the patio table was in a million pieces. The lazy susan was intact. The glass was in between the cement around the pool and to make matters worse, the glass was also in the pool. We both had to get into the pool - 9ft depth and keep diving down for the shattered glass. This took hours.
My husband and I were still finding pieces of the glass here and there even though we had spent the rest of the weekend cleaning up glass. I went to KMart to discuss the glass breaking for no apparent reason and was told there was nothing that they could do. They also stated that the set was 1 1/2 old and that the umbrella could have made the glass break if it was not in the stand correctly. I explained that the umbrella had not been in the stand at the time. I also explained that I stored my furniture every winter and even removed the cushions when it rained. I explained that I removed the umbrella from the stand after every use and do not use the umbrella if it is windy. Again I was told there is nothing they can do.
