We purchased our outdoor table and chairs approx 3 years ago. Never had a problem and actually had tons of people compliment the glass and how pretty it was. One day a few weeks ago, the table shattered into a million pieces. It took me forever to clean up the mess and I cut my fingers. I put it in a bag in a cardboard box only to have to clean it all up again because our trash men dropped it in the street. MORE CUTS. Every time it rains it seems that more glass appears on my patio... I assume this is coming from the yard as it would have to have shattered in every single direction. I have 4 kids and a dog so this has been a huge issue. Now I don't know what to do... I have a table that I once loved with 6 huge chairs and NO top.

I think I'll just contact a glass company for a replacement. During the summer I always have the umbrella up, but I don't know if that helped or not. I am another of the consumers who bought a Martha Stewart Patio Table with a glass top from Kmart (March 2002) Late august of 2008 we found the glass table top shattered into innumerable tiny fragments just as described by other consumers here on your web site. The fragments were too numerous and uniformly small in size to have been caused by a traumatic injury to the table top. This had to be due to problems with the tempering of the lgas used for the table top. We would like to be part of the Class action suit if that is possible.

I purchased 10 pieces of Martha Stewart Great Lakes Collection patio furniture, including the 40x66 inch boat top table at the K Mart store in Lake Wales, FL for our vacation home in Indian Lake Estates, FL. None of the furniture was ever outside, but in our heated and airconditioned Florida room. This furniture was only used a few weeks a year and in Sept 2008 when I arrived at our home, our glass top table was all over the floor in thousands of pieces. This set was purchased june 16, 2000 when we purchased our home and has very little use so was shocked at what I found. I am still cleaning up glass pieces and gave away the table frame and the six chairs to someone who was going to put a wooden top on it. The glider and the two chaise loungers are of no use either since everything matched. I have my hangtags and sales ticket and feel there should be reimbursement for part of the set and not just the table as the whole set is of no use. The frames were a problem right away as I had to send for the paint to cover bad erosion in the frames and this set never was in the sun or out of doors. I trusted the Martha Stewart name and thought I had purchased a reasonably dependable set.

I was watching a news cast about problems with the Martha Stewart Outdoor-line of furniture. Not only had I purchased one set (2004) but a second set in (2006). Just like the reports on the news, the glass top table just EXPLODED when nothing was on top of it but two people were simply moving it only a foot. After this incident that I thought was my fault because it shouldn't have been moved, I purchased another set the following spring; only because I was trying to match the original furniture left from the original purchase. However, that was also a waste because they change the colors every year so that you have to purchase a complete set. This tabletop also EXPLODED with no one around this time; the only explanation we could come up with was that the umbrella must have caused it. Now that I know that the material was defective it only makes sense. I now have two tables with no glass tops, since it is more expensive to have a glass replacement than it was to cut a piece of wood and cover it with a table cloth. Now I have two ugly tables covered with wood and table cloths and am out about 400 dollars.

Purchased a Martha Stewart patio set for Mother's Day a few years ago (may still have the receipt) from Kmart and one afternoon my teenage daughter calls me at work and said she heard something in the backyard that sounded like glass breaking. I called our neighbor who is a police officer to go check the backyard for me and he called and stated that everything was in order and that it looks like the table just shattered. Very disappointing. The ironic part about this is my daughter-in-law purchased the same set when I did and this past Sept 29th she called me and said that she and my son were walking out on their deck to have some morning coffee and as they opened their patio door to step outside...the table just shattered and scared the heck right out of them.

The store wouldn't exchange the table because it was beyond the warranty period, so I purchased another table since I already had the chairs and they were in good condition. The same guides broke on the new table, and shortly thereafter, the glass on the table shattered all over my patio, likely because of the pressure put on the table from the umbrella not having proper stabilizer guides. I didn't even bother trying to return the new table because of the problem I had with K-Mart the first time around. I just saw on the news today that there is a class action lawsuit because many people had similar problems with Martha Stewart pation sets. It seems to me that the design and construction was poor. Within the first month or so, I went up onto the pool deck and found the glass from the table was shattered in a million pieces like it fell straight through the table. I called K-Mart and they referred me to the manufacturer who sent me a replacement top for the table.

Within about four months, that new table top also shattered. We threw the table away. Over the past year, the snaps on the cushions to the ottoman have rusted through and now the cushions are not attached to the frame. The bottoms of all the furniture between the ball-type base and where the metal frames attaches have completely rusted through. The cushion on the folding lounge chair was torn up. I bought a new cushion from Home Depot but behold, you can't get the old cushion off. After cutting a portion of it off from underneath, I realized too late that there is no strapping to hold a replacement cushion.

For anybody out there who has this set (dark brown frame and tan weave cushions) and the cushion dry rots, just leave it on and put a replacement cushion on top of it. The cushion is the support and acts like a hammock when you sit on it.

My sister sustained a few cuts on her legs and feet from the broken glass. We were thankful it wasn't much worse and that our kids weren't sitting there. Is there any recourse or are these tables being recalled? I was shocked to see how many other people have reported the same thing.

When the glass shattered the glass went in the grass , on the pool cement deck, and in the pool.

I had to apologise to my compay and send them home. My husband and I spent many hours sweeping and vacuuming the area and I still don't feel comfortable allowing people to walk barefoot. Now it's the end of the season and I cannot get a replacement patio set.

Luckily it was far enough away from the pool which my daughter was swimming in at the time, and I was on the other end of the deck.

There was no physical damage. As for economic, obviously the table needs to be replaced and I threw out the shoes I wore to clean up the glass as they were soft soled and tons of glass chards are embedded in them.

Once we found the hundreds of similar instances reported on this site, we realized that this was just a ticking time bomb waiting to happen. We think that obviously K-Mart knows about this problem and there should have been some type of recall or publicity to mitigate the damages or danger. Even if it is out of warranty, glass should not just suddenly explode. We now have a useless patio set and plan to get rid of the matching coffee table before the same thing happens.

While doing some gardening in the yard the glass table on the deck just exploded into thousands of small cubes with nothing striking the table at all. The glass lazy susan remained intact. I can only surmise this was a design flaw in the product with either a problem in the design places in the glass or the frame being to tight and expansion/contraction causing it to shatter

K-Mart was of no help and their referral to M.Stewart was useless as well. I am still finding pieces over a 20 foot radius. I am grateful that my grandson was not outside at the time. Something should be done before someone is seriously hurt by this product.

I called the Customer Service Dept for Kmart and Sears and told them of the patio table top exploding and asked how I could get this replaced. The one operator told me he would send a template over to a glass cutter and they would contact me in 2 business days with cost and shipping. After 4 day's fo hearing from no one, I called this so called glasscutter at NEWMARK which was what the operator #52880 Reuben said would be the company doing this for me, and they said no such order was placed, that they don't cut table tops for patio tables....?

SO, I called back to Kmart Customer Service, told them the deal, and they told me they were SORRY, but I would have to get my own glass cutter to do this, and there was no such template for me to go off of for the dimension's to have this cut, I would have to do that myself. They told me to go to [internet] and on that website would I find table tops dimensions. Well I went to that site, it said siteunder construction and there was no such toolbar that noted any sort of link to checking dimensions for table tops. SO Kmart and Martha Stewart are really giving their customers the run around.

I've read several reviews on these tables at the Kmart website and I'm not alone, tons of table tops are exploding for no reason, as mine did. Why these companies don't do something to remedy this problem and show their customers they stand behind their work, I do not know but I won't shop there again, you can't trust them, I guess since Martha was put into jail, we should have known her ethics weren't the best.

The only REAL damage is that I'm left with an outdoor patio set without a table and there is also nowhere to get this table top replaced due to the lack of care and vision that these companies have for their products.

On August 13, 2008 I heard a giant crashing sound. Much to my horror I found that my Martha Stewart Everyday Garden Melrose glass top patio table had exploded into millions of small pieces and many of them are became in my deck. After examining the area I found that the table shattered spontaniously. Nothing was on the table, weather was wonderful and the table had been well maintained for 2 years.

This was a potentially dangerous model and the possiblility for severe injury was extremely great. I have a family of 4 and own and operate an in home child care center. We frequently eat outside on the set. If I had known of the risk I would not have selected this model. However, I was under the impression that tempered glass was safer. Apparently not so.

Now I can't afford to replace the glass and I don't know that I could to trust a similar product. I believe that the entire damage orrured because of a design flaw. There is nothing supporting the glass the closer you get to the umbrella hole. I thought the Martha Stewart name stood for high quality, safe and affordable products. This purchase turned out to be very dissappointing and I am quite dissatisfied.

I can not finanially replace the glass or the table itself. I am uncomfortable replacing the glass until the designed structure supports the weight of the glass completely. I am also uncomfortable allowing my family to play out on the deck or enjoy the summer barefooted because of the amount of glass that became lodged in the deck. Not to mention that the use of ouw deck for entertaining is impossible without a complete patio set that is safe for everyone.

I went online today to see if I could replace the cushions and came across MANY consumer reports of the glass exploding spontaneously.

Now I think I need to replace the table altogether before my family gets hurt and I have to clean a mess like all of the others have. This is very disconcerting and I am beyond disappointed to learn that Martha Stewart has taken no action to correct the prolbem or replace peoples tables. I have been an avid reader of her magazines and have made purchases of many items of her's from K-Mart and Macy's. I will not shop at K-Mart or buy Martha Stewart porducts until this issue is handled responsibly by them. The set was about $700 in total.

We have not dealt with anyone what happened to us was on Saturday July 19, 2008. We were haveing a family get together there are only six of us and lucily my granddaughter was not set at the table when the turn table part of a Martha Stewart glass table top shattered at the time there were four of us sitting around the table when it shattered. No one was hurt but when my granddaughter came out onto the deck like she always does bare foot she ended up with several shattered peice of glass in her foot before we thought to say not to come out bare foot. We have had the table for about 4 years and use it every summer and nothing ever happened until this year. So if anyone else has a table older than 2 or 3 year still be watchful because it still can happen

There was only damage to the turn table part of the table as it shattered and it sounded like some thing came falling down but nothing did.

A Martha Stewart Melrose patio table with a glass top broke into thousands of pieces. Other than a minor cut it caused no major personal harm. I bought it to replace another one just like it which shattered for no apparent reason. I thought that it was a fluke. This one did the same.

I purchased Martha Stewart outdoor Patio Furniture approximately 3 years ago. The chairs ripped a couple of months ago and I could live with that, however, yesterday, the tempered glass top explored sending glass shards all over my patio. Luckily, we are not sitting at the table at the time this happened.

Purchased a Martha Stewart patio set and the glass top exploded. No evidence of it being hit. The table is anchored to the patio so it cannot tip over. I see alot of complaints on this web site of other people this happened to. I also heard a Disc Jockey in Philadelphia talking about this on the radio that this happened to his table also. I think Martha Stewart should reimburse the high cost we paid for these tables.

I bought the entire Victorian Patio furniture from K-Mart in May of 2002 or 2003.When I went out on our screen in porch, I found our glass top coffee table shattered into a million pieces.I'm very disappointed to see that it has happen to a lot of other people but yet not heard anything about this situation on any consumer report.

No physical damage was done. Thankfully my kids were not out there when it shattered. I am looking for another piece of glass to fit the table yet I'm affraid to buy anything fearing that it will shatter again but this time someone will get hurt.

Martha Stewart Outdoor furniture set - table w/ lazy susan and 5 chairs - purchased from K Mart in 2005. Glass table top shattered while being stored. Not in use at the time, apparently shattered June 2008 - no cause.

Sure, we can replace the glass for around $250.00 but this will not replace the appealing lazy susan design, not to mention the glass pattern will not be an option. This is terribly disappointing and I'd like to send the whole metal structure to Martha Stewart personally so she can dispose of the junk I'm left with.

The Victorian Patio set is very poorly made. I bought the entire set, the table, 5 chairs, 2 rockers, loveseat, coffee table, swing, and chaise lounge chair. Our set has rusted terribly, even after being stored, our coffee table glass exploded and shattered into a million pieces and every cushion has shredded. Imagine the horror in getting the cushions out of storage and going to pick one up and your fingers going completely through the fabric. I am very disappointed in the not only the product but the fact that the company will not stand behind it's product!

Loss of $700+ in a product that looks horrible and is no longer functional.

We purchased a Martha Stewart Patio set from K-mart the summer of 2006, it was quite exspensive but figured we would have it for some time. In the spring of 2007, not even a full year of having the furniture the glass table top shattered, the umbrella came down and the pole bent in half. We were not certain on how this happened as we were not outdoors at the time.

Now we read all these complaints. We had put a piece of plywood on the table for the time being so we could use the table. Now we were looking into replacing the table to match all the rest of the furniture on the patio (9 other pieces)but were unable to find the same color in the stores. I was going to pull up Martha Stewart patio furniture on the web to purchase a new table but after reading all the complaints I do not want to purchase from her line. It is very disappointing to see so many complaints and nothing being down about it.

Just over a year ago we purchased a Martha Stewart five chair patio set with a glass table top at a local Kmart store. This morning (July, 2008) we discovered the glass table top had exploded into little pieces on the ground below the table, on the chairs, and on our deck. We are fortunate that it happened when we were not sitting at the table. We discovered the manufacturer and Kmart have known about the glass top patio furniture's history of exploding for years and yet they continue to produce and sell it to unsuspecting people.

I would like to know why these people are allowed to continue producing and selling to the public a extremely dangerous product without imforming the public of the potential hazard and why it has not been pulled off the market. I would like to find what I need to do to join the class action suite against the manufacturer, Martha Stewart, and Kmart. I purchased their product in good faith and one year later table top is in pieces on my deck.

I have two young children that could have seriously hurt. I cut myself cleaning it up and we are just out.
