I purchased a Martha Stewart Olympia collection patio set around two years ago. On January 13th, 2009, while letting the dog outside I noticed that the glass from the table had shattered. I check around and there was nothing that may have broken the glass. I now have to replace the glass or the entire table. We purchased many items in this collection but now we have to replace it with something that does not match.

My Martha Stewart glass tabletop shattered this morning (1/09). The temp in Dallas, TX is 80 degrees, so that wasn't a problem. The glass top shattered without warning and dispersed all over my patio. It is a very dangerous area considering I have a young son.

I was watching a news cast about problems with the Martha Stewart Outdoor-line of furniture. Not only had I purchased one set (2004) but a second set in (2006). Just like the reports on the news, the glass top table just EXPLODED when nothing was on top of it but two people were simply moving it only a foot. After this incident that I thought was my fault because it shouldn't have been moved, I purchased another set the following spring; only because I was trying to match the original furniture left from the original purchase. However, that was also a waste because they change the colors every year so that you have to purchase a complete set. This tabletop also EXPLODED with no one around this time; the only explanation we could come up with was that the umbrella must have caused it. Now that I know that the material was defective it only makes sense. I now have two tables with no glass tops, since it is more expensive to have a glass replacement than it was to cut a piece of wood and cover it with a table cloth. Now I have two ugly tables covered with wood and table cloths and am out about 400 dollars.

We have a Martha Stewart Patio table which we purchased at Kmart in Spring Valley, CA in 2002. About a month ago, the glass tabletop shattered in small pieces. No one was home at the time, but my son noticed it when he went out onto the patio later. I haven't tried to contact Martha Stewart or Kmart yet. I just today decided to see if a replacement top was available, when I found a few articles on the internet regarding this issue and that it is a known problem with these tables. Who should I contact with respect to this issue?

Purchased a Martha Stewart patio set for Mother's Day a few years ago (may still have the receipt) from Kmart and one afternoon my teenage daughter calls me at work and said she heard something in the backyard that sounded like glass breaking. I called our neighbor who is a police officer to go check the backyard for me and he called and stated that everything was in order and that it looks like the table just shattered. Very disappointing. The ironic part about this is my daughter-in-law purchased the same set when I did and this past Sept 29th she called me and said that she and my son were walking out on their deck to have some morning coffee and as they opened their patio door to step outside...the table just shattered and scared the heck right out of them.
Feeling a bit defenseless as the season was over to get replacement table, my daughter-in-law has gone without. She just reported to me that there was a nationwide problem with the tables and I would like to add my dissatisfaction to the list of victims of the Martha Stewart glass patio tables.

10-20-08 - Came home after being out for only 1 hour to find my patio table had exploded into a million pieces for no reason. Luckily no one was injured, but the cleanup was terrible! (I did take pictures to show what happened.) It was purchased at Kmart (Martha Stewart collection) about 4 years ago. I went online to purchase a new top and found this website. I am horrified to hear all these complaints about the same thing happening. There should be a major recall before someone gets seriously injured!!! I too, am now stuck with 6 chairs and no table and it looks like the cost to replace the top will be almost the cost to replace the whole set. THANKS MARTHA!!!!

I purchased a Martha Stewart Melrose patio set in 2005 and in May 2008, it exploded. I noticed on the internet that there was a class action lawsuit for this type of situation, however, it was not for the set we purchase. I have been all over the internet and there are numerous complaints of this happening. I don't understand why everyone who has had this happen to them isn't included in this lawsuit. To purchase a replacement table is $139 BUT we have to pay an additional $125 for shipping. This is ridiculous! The glass exploded all over our deck. Fortunately, no one was hurt. We're out a table to match the 6 chairs we have!

Bought an outdoor table and 6 chairs from the Martha Stewart line at Kmart in 2004. In 2006, my son and I heard loud crash on patio. We discovered the table in thousands of pieces. Not understanding how this happened, I went back to Kmart and all they would do is sell me another table for $100 which I still have but now after reading this site, I am very nervous it will happen again. It appears to have happened to hundreds if not thousands of people. I cannot understand how it is still on the market. Also, now four of the six chairs have problems like bolt hinges breaking and pipe legs splitting. I hate to do this but looks like I need to throw this set out and start again (very expensive).

The glass top of our patio table spontaneously shattered this week. We purchased it from Kmart in April 2002. It was from the Martha Stewart Collection. It happened late at night and nobody was anywhere near it. It was on a second story covered deck. It has made a huge mess and I am concerned for anyone who will walk around below the deck as thousands of pieces of tiny glass shards have now fallen through the slats of the wood flooring to the ground below. It will be nearly impossible to assure we have recovered all of the glass pieces.

Same here, (as many others have reported), I have a Martha Stewart Outdoor Patio Set, (leaf patterned, round glass table, with glass Lazy Susan & 5 chairs).... glass. Middle of the night, just heard a crashing sound outside. Surprised to see the entire glass top shattered into a gazillion pieces. Tiny shards!!! Nothing caused it. Nothing at all was even placed on the glass at the time of combustion. It apparently has spontaneously disintegrated just like the reports of many other Martha Stewart glass table tops. Glass is EVERYWHERE!!
Glad I, nor anyone else, was anywhere near to be injured. DEFINITELY a dangerous product. The public should be warned. Product should be recalled. Money paid, refunded. After reading ALL OF THE OTHER similar experiences that other purchasers of this table have had... it is utterly ridiculous that this product hasn't been recalled for being the safety hazard that it obviously is. I am actually shocked to see the plethora of exact same complaints. I've purchased several glass-top patio tables in the past and NEVER had this experience before. Ridiculous. And dangerous.

When I went outside, the glass table was in a zillion pieces. I has a gazebo around it. I called the 800 consumer# for Martha Stewart products to report it and I was assured this was the first time they had heard about it. I came online today to try to find a replacement for the gazebo top that ripped and for my 3 seat swing, and found this site. So I am also lodging a complaint.

After investigating we found our leaf pattered cocktail table that we purchased from kmart, The martha stewart collection. Is in a million pieces. We could not figure out how it could break. It had the crackling noise after it broke for several minutes like a popping noise. Very unsafe. How many complaints does one company need to call for a recall. This without a dought needs some serious resolultion. These tables should be pulled off the market. And the company who manufatures the glass and the tables needs to be checked out to make sure they do not distribute such a defective product.

Over two years ago, we bought the Martha Stewart Collection patio furniture, a table and two lounge chairs with ottomons and covers for them. We also bought two of the matching fold-up chairs and fold-up lounge. Within the first month or so, I went up onto the pool deck and found the glass from the table was shattered in a million pieces like it fell straight through the table. I called K-Mart and they referred me to the manufacturer who sent me a replacement top for the table.
Within about four months, that new table top also shattered. We threw the table away. Over the past year, the snaps on the cushions to the ottoman have rusted through and now the cushions are not attached to the frame. The bottoms of all the furniture between the ball-type base and where the metal frames attaches have completely rusted through. The cushion on the folding lounge chair was torn up. I bought a new cushion from Home Depot but behold, you can't get the old cushion off. After cutting a portion of it off from underneath, I realized too late that there is no strapping to hold a replacement cushion.
For anybody out there who has this set (dark brown frame and tan weave cushions) and the cushion dry rots, just leave it on and put a replacement cushion on top of it. The cushion is the support and acts like a hammock when you sit on it.
There were shards of glass everywhere, between the cracks in the deck, all over the place. It was a mess to try to clean up. We had to pick the pieces out with a tiny screwdriver and long nose pliers.

Luckily no physical damage to us, property, or our pets occurred although it would have been very serious if we or our pets were near or sitting at this table as we often do, and have our 2 small dogs sit on the chairs surrounding the table. While doing some gardening in the yard the glass table on the deck just exploded into thousands of small cubes with nothing striking the table at all. The glass lazy susan remained intact. I bought a Martha Stewart Bloomington Patio set and the glass on the table top exploded into a million pieces. It happened during the night so when we got up in the morning we found that it was useless. Tiny pieces of glass are stuck in between the boards on the deck and will have to be removed.
The only economic problem is the cost of finding something to replace the top and after looking online it could cost @$300.00! I plan to look for less expensive.

SImilar to above incidences. My wife was just on our patio, went in the house for a few minutes to hear about the kids first day at school and my 8 year old daughter looked out the ptio door and said, that's not good. My wife came over to find the glass top on the table completely shattered into a zillion pieces. While trying to clean it up she was cut, and now she doesn't even trust sitting on the cushions because shards of glass may be embedded in them. And there is still a concern of missed pieces cutting our children and dog. Not to mention it just started to rain. How can a company not take responsibility when there are so many cases reported. I don't even want to know how much this is going to cost me.

I called the Customer Service Dept for Kmart and Sears and told them of the patio table top exploding and asked how I could get this replaced. The one operator told me he would send a template over to a glass cutter and they would contact me in 2 business days with cost and shipping. After 4 day's fo hearing from no one, I called this so called glasscutter at NEWMARK which was what the operator #52880 Reuben said would be the company doing this for me, and they said no such order was placed, that they don't cut table tops for patio tables....?
SO, I called back to Kmart Customer Service, told them the deal, and they told me they were SORRY, but I would have to get my own glass cutter to do this, and there was no such template for me to go off of for the dimension's to have this cut, I would have to do that myself. They told me to go to [internet] and on that website would I find table tops dimensions. Well I went to that site, it said siteunder construction and there was no such toolbar that noted any sort of link to checking dimensions for table tops. SO Kmart and Martha Stewart are really giving their customers the run around.
I've read several reviews on these tables at the Kmart website and I'm not alone, tons of table tops are exploding for no reason, as mine did. Why these companies don't do something to remedy this problem and show their customers they stand behind their work, I do not know but I won't shop there again, you can't trust them, I guess since Martha was put into jail, we should have known her ethics weren't the best.
The only REAL damage is that I'm left with an outdoor patio set without a table and there is also nowhere to get this table top replaced due to the lack of care and vision that these companies have for their products.

On August 13, 2008 I heard a giant crashing sound. Much to my horror I found that my Martha Stewart Everyday Garden Melrose glass top patio table had exploded into millions of small pieces and many of them are became in my deck. After examining the area I found that the table shattered spontaniously. Nothing was on the table, weather was wonderful and the table had been well maintained for 2 years.
This was a potentially dangerous model and the possiblility for severe injury was extremely great. I have a family of 4 and own and operate an in home child care center. We frequently eat outside on the set. If I had known of the risk I would not have selected this model. However, I was under the impression that tempered glass was safer. Apparently not so.
Now I can't afford to replace the glass and I don't know that I could to trust a similar product. I believe that the entire damage orrured because of a design flaw. There is nothing supporting the glass the closer you get to the umbrella hole. I thought the Martha Stewart name stood for high quality, safe and affordable products. This purchase turned out to be very dissappointing and I am quite dissatisfied.
I can not finanially replace the glass or the table itself. I am uncomfortable replacing the glass until the designed structure supports the weight of the glass completely. I am also uncomfortable allowing my family to play out on the deck or enjoy the summer barefooted because of the amount of glass that became lodged in the deck. Not to mention that the use of ouw deck for entertaining is impossible without a complete patio set that is safe for everyone.

Our Martha Stewart outdoor glass-topped table exploded in the middle of the night with no one around and nothing causing it.
I was just looking online to see if I can find information to order a new glass top when I came across an article about this being a problem with Martha Stewart Glass tables. No one was hurt, but had someone been within 5ft, they would have been. The glass shards are EVERYWHERE (in our grass, the flower pots, the chairs are all scratched from flying glass.) Why would they continue to sell a product they know has such a dangerous tendency? We now will need to replace the set at quite an expense - not with any Martha Stewart product!

Obvisously there is a lot of clean up to do because the glass is very sharp and even though I was very careful I recieved minor cuts on the finger tips from cleaning it up. I am just so thankful that I was not sitting out there when it happened. And with the pieces of glass being so small I don't know if I am ever going to get it cleaned up.
