The glass in our Martha Stewart Melrose table shattered like many others, apparently. However, I know exactly why it shattered. When we would move the table from one spot to another, we would drag it with the umbrella still attached. Well, after a number of years of this abuse on our part, one of the lower support brackets for the umbrella broke at the weld and caused the umbrella pole to wedge against the glass and it shattered. Just wondering if this could have happened to others? Since this was our fault, we went to Kmart, manned up, and bought a new table. Problem solved. We remove the umbrella when the table is not in use.

I purchased Martha Stewart’s Palisades set with the lazy Susan in the center, outdoor furniture in May of this year for Memorial Day. Not even 60 days later, I looked out my patio door and discovered my patio table was shattered in millions of pieces. All I have left is the lazy Susan and the table frame where the glass used to be. No one can tell me how to replace my table and the season is not over. What can I do to get my table replaced? I feel I should be compensated in some way. As a result, I am stuck with brand new chairs and umbrella and no table. No one was physically injured.

My glass table top of Martha Stewart patio furniture just shattered into a million pieces; it literally exploded. Luckily, no one was at the table. I was many rooms away from the table when I heard a small explosion. I found the table top shattered and the glass is still crackling like popcorn. There is glass everywhere over my deck and I have small grandchildren that play out there every day in the summer which it is right now. I don't know when they will be able to go out there again and don't know long it is going to take to clean all this glass up; it is literally everywhere in the smallest, tiniest pieces. Needless to say that I spent over $300 on the whole set of table and chairs and I am going to be unable to even use any of it for the rest of the summer.

I purchased a Martha Stewart patio set, which I have had for a few years, from Kmart on July 25, 2009. My son, wife, and two children were at my home when they heard this loud crash. They went to the back doors on my patio, only to see the entire top of the table on the floor. The glass top had exploded, and the glass was so hot that it was bouncing up off the floor. There was no one outside or around the table at the time. It just shattered on its own.

I would like to know what I can do about this. Kmart will not give me any information on how to replace the table, and no one will tell me who the manufacturer is. I don't want a replacement for the glass, because I am not sure why it shattered and don't want to take the risk that another one won't do the same thing. I have five grandchildren, who are at my house on a regular basis, and I will not run the risk of this happening when they are outside. If one of my grandchildren or my children had been sitting at that table when it happened, I would hate to think what might have happened. I still have the glass that was cleaned up and would like someone to tell me if this has happened to others, who purchased Martha Stewart furniture.

This morning, 7/25/09 at about 9 a.m., the glass table top in our Martha Stewart table purchased at Kmart in the Washington Street Shopping Center in Las Vegas, basically blew up into a million pieces. We are lucky that our dog, Rat Terrier-18 lbs., or anyone else was not on the patio at the time. We purchased this set, table, five chairs, chaise and a couple of extra chair seats in Spring of 2005. We have always liked the set. I never thought a glass table top could explode like this. It is identical to photos on the web. The chair fabric is also very poor and rotting. It was a hot summer day in western Colorado. I was sitting inside my office reading a book, with the window open and the swamp cooler on. I heard an awful crashing noise outside, I saw my dog cowering, and looked over to see my rectangular glass Martha Stewart table completely shattered. The table was under a covered/wooden patio canopy. I thought something must have fallen to cause this. Not the case! It literally just crashed and it only had on it a plate of seashells and, of course, my daughter and her two friends painted flower pots from camp.

I immediately tried to clean up the shards of glass so my dog wouldn't step in it, but the glass was literally popping and was landing on my feet. I had my neighbor come over to listen and he agreed, saw and heard the glass popping. My patio is covered, so the table never really receives direct sunlight, it is filtered. I do live in the desert, so it was 100 degrees out.

I immediately took pictures and drove to K-mart to see if there had been some sort of recall on the table or if this had happened before. They denied anything. It wasn't until I got online that I found out the truth. I will be returning to K-mart with the article I found online. I know I will probably never be financially reimbursed for this, but maybe I can spare someone else the hardship and the danger.

I purchased a $400 Martha Stewart patio furniture set at Kmart in Holland, Michigan during May of 2008. For one year, this set met my basic needs, with the table exposed to the outdoors only until October when it was moved indoors for storage due to freezing temperatures. In early July of 2009, I returned home to find the table completely shattered for no reason whatsoever. No object came in contact with the table, winds were mild, and temperatures peaked at 75 degrees. There is no acceptable reason for this table to have shattered as it did. With shards of glass covering my deck, having fallen through the cracks in the boards to the rocks and grass below, and lots of young children's feet everywhere around, this event was highly distressing. Despite sweeping and vacuuming with a Shop Vac, reappearing glass shards continue to present themselves daily. The estimate from my glass company (Glass Enterprises, Holland MI) to replace this 38" x 64" piece of tempered glass is $240.

Many pieces embedded themselves into the wood and I had to pry them out and then try to vacuum them up. It was a terrible mess as our glass top was a large rectangle. The table had shattered into thousands of pieces. The Lazy Susan and the table were intact. I went online to see about a replacement only to find out that the company knew of this problem for a long time. I’m just grateful my grandbaby was not out there. It’s very scary how this happens and no one has made a recall. Thanks, Martha Stewart and Kmart, for putting the concern of your customers at the bottom of your list. I will have to replace the table top. Who knows how much that will be? Also, I have the coffee table. I just know I can't let the grandbaby near it.

There was no bad storm or anything to have caused the table to be damaged, so I believe the glass has a design flaw. The table is warranted, but not the glass. Cost to replace the glass is $400. Needless to say, I was disappointed as I really enjoyed the furniture and overall, I have been pleased with its design, structure, materials, etc. minus the table glass.

I have several credit cards with Chase, and during the last two years, I received and agreed to promotional offers of an APR of 3.99% until paid. My payments were 2% of the unpaid balance, as they had always been on the cards. In June 2009, Chase sent me a notice on 4 cards with the 3.99% balance that the minimum payment was going from 2% to 5%. The total balance on these cards is about $50,000, meaning the minimum payment will go from about $1,000 to $2,500. Chase offered no opt outs, such as canceling the card to keep the current terms. I think that this practice of Chase is in violation of truth in lending laws, as they are changing the basic terms on low interest accounts and not on regular accounts in order to force customers to switch to higher interest rate accounts.

The two babies had small glass cuts all over them. It was terrible. The kids were crying, the babies were screaming. We had to bandage all of the kids for their cuts and had a hard time getting the splinter glass out of the babies' hair. One of the children had gotten a piece of glass in the corner of her eye. I will not be able to let my child go out there or myself for that matter, without shoes for a long time. I wish I had known that these table tops have a history of shattering like that.

I am out of work at the time so I don’t think I am going to be able to afford to replace it. So, one of my biggest joys that keeps me going each day is gone. There is nothing like getting up each morning and going and sitting out on the patio with a cup of coffee.

I had a set from Kmart in Valley Steam on Long Island in NY. It was purchased in May. A few months later, it shattered for no apparent reason on a clear moderate temp day with no one in area. I looked out the window to find the tabletop in a zillion pieces on the patio. I called Kmart and got no assistance. I demanded a phone number for the manufacturer. I screamed cried and threatened when they told me there was nothing they could do. I persisted and the woman finally agreed to send me, free of charge, a replacement glass. It was shipped to my home directly at no charge. Needless to say, I was quite satisfied. However, two years later, the same thing happened. At that point, I threw the garbage out.

I will be interested to know if there will be a class action lawsuit. There are certainly enough complaints to warrant one. I purchased this set in August 2008, and the same thing happened to this tabletop. I think there is more happening here than meets the eye. The cost to replace a glass patio tabletop is usually more than the cost to just buy another set. Most manufacturers don't sell replacement glass, nor do they sell the table without the chairs. Consumers are being ripped off at an astonishing pace with regard to outdoor furniture, and have little, if any recourse to the store where the item was purchased, or to the manufacturer of the item. It is just despicable that the consumer has no remedy for this nonsense. They just keep figuring we'll just go buy another rather than replace the glass, etc. Something should be done to protect the consumer from such underhanded practices.

The glass top shattered into a million pieces and after trying to move the frame of the table around to clean up the glass, the frame has collapsed. I went out about 1:10 pm in the afternoon to water plants and the table was fine. When my husband and I went out on the deck about 4:00 pm, there were shattered glass everywhere. We started looking to see if something had struck the glass to cause this but did not find anything.

After cleaning up the glass for four hours the best we could, I got online to see if I could find out some information about what may have happened and have discovered that others have had this same issue. I just had a deck built to actually accommodate this patio set as our old deck was very small. I am so upset! Is there anything I can do to see about getting it replaced? I have some pictures.

We purchased the Martha Stewart "Bloomington" patio set in April of 2008 at our local K Mart. Almost one month to the day later, under pleasant, late spring conditions, I heard a loud "pop" coming from outside. When I went to investigate, I found our patio table had shattered into a million pieces spraying glass onto our patio and into the grass. Thankfully, my children were not outside at the time. Panicked, b/c we were having company for a picnic that day, we quickly purchased another identical table. We didn't even think to look for the receipt to request a replacement free of charge. We, again, spent $130. Today, almost one year to the date after replacing the table, the same exact thing happened to our second table! Again, pleasant weather and thankfully, the kids had just gone indoors. I have contacted the store that we purchased the table from and am awaiting direction from the store manager. I am infuriated, to say the least, that we have now spent $260 dollars on 2 tables and now are left with nothing but a pile of glass and very little hope that Martha Stewart corp will stand by their product. If there's ever a suit, count us in!!!!

We bought a patio set from the Martha Stewart Furniture Collection from KMart a few years ago. Everything was fine until a few weeks ago, the glass covering on the table exploded. We weren't sure why it happened. It was sitting upright on our patio and all of a sudden the sound of glass echoed from outside. It was the scariest thing ever. We decided to look online for a replacement piece, and found a site where customers also complained about the collection from Martha Stewart. It's mind-boggling to hear thousands of other customers experience what we just experienced. Why are these pieces still being sold???

I purchased a Martha Stewart patio set second hand from a friend about one year ago and a few nights ago I was in my home and heard a loud "pop" outside. I went to my window and looked outside, but it was dark and I couldn't really see anything, so I thought it must be something at my neighbors house and went to bed. The next day my husband called me out to our deck where I saw that our table had shattered into a thousand pcs. We looked at the area and found that nothing had fallen on the table and it was still sitting in the same place as last night. I called my Daughter-in-law to tell her about this and she started searching the net and found this website and hundreds of other victims like me. It is unexceptable to me that this can happen to so many people and nothing can be done. What really slaps you in the face is the fact that these tables are still being sold!!!!! I think we should boycott the retailers, as well as all other Martha Stewart products by the masses!!!! It's not about the money for me, it's about the principal of the matter.

This is an update to my previous complaint. I purchased the Martha Stewart Olympia set from Kmart. This spring we had one of the four panels, of our bar set, shatter as well into many little pieces. I called for a replacement and gladly paid the cost plus shipping. Well the first was damaged during shimpment, the second was the wrong panel side (comes in two sections with two glass sections each)and the third yesterday was also damaged in shipment and never reached my house. I sent an email this morning and just received an email back from their supervisor Tracy that they have gone over and above and will be crediting my card and will not be shipping another panel out. I requested to just pick up the new table right at Kmart. Wouldn't that have made sense, since you already paid for three panels to be sent?. Now please tell me what I am to do with this useless piece of Martha Stewart Furniture? Shame on you Martha, I doubt you even use your own products! I am only registering this complaint so that any resolution comes of this matter,my name can be counted among those who have been affected. The set I purchased has otherwise held up well over the four years and is still attractive. I would have much preferred that KMart or Martha Stewart would have enough pride in their brand or enough conscience to stand behind their products so that could continue to enjoy the set. As it is, the replacement cost of the glass is prohibitive. I will end up buying replacement table and you can be sure it won't be from Kmart and it won't be a Martha Stewart brand. Made the call to the company and I had to pay for a new top and the delivery of the item. I tracked this with FedX and was to be delivered to my house on April 28th, when it didn't arrive by the 29th I saw that the table was damaged during shipping on the 22nd. Don't you think the company would have notified us and sent out a new one without me calling?. No, I had to email them. In return I received an email from someone different explaining that I would be charged a 15% restocking fee because I denied delivery. I emailed Tracy back and explained the table was damaged during shipment. Well 2 days +- I received the new table top. During those two days my husband and I went out and purchased a new patio set (from somewhere else). He just this weekend went to replace the new section (there are two sides)and wouldn't you know they sent the wrong side. Emailed them right away Sunday, no reply. Emailed Tracy (contact #2, they need pictures of their mistake to rectify the situation on their end. I believe that is also called "we don't believe you". Well, I'm waiting now to see what happens, do I receive my table top in one piece?. Who knows. I remember after purchasing the set, reading all the complaints of the glass tops shattering thinking this won't happen to us. Well it did and I really hope that the other pieces don't shatter as well. I'm shocked that the company is allowed to keep producing the devective glass tops. On April 17th, 2009, I heard a loud explosion. I was scared. I thought it was a break-in. I looked out at my patio and there were shattered glass everywhere, even in my pool (Martha Stewart patio table top exploded.) I went into Kmart and spoke with the manager on call on April 19th, 2009. He claimed that he never heard anything like that. These tables are still being sold despite all the complaints on Consumer Affairs. And he said he never heard one single complaint. I also have the bar set and I'm concerned that too will shatter and injure my grandchildren. I feel this is unfair due to the fact that this is hazardous to consumers, and license dealers need to stop selling this product. I need someone to please contact me at the number above. I am at a loss. Help me.

My husband and I purchased a Martha Stewart table and chairs late last summer. In 2 weeks after purchase, the glass top shattered. My daughter was on the deck, and I was in my kitchen. I looked out the window and heard the pop and saw the glass begin to shatter. The glass broke apart like a jigsaw puzzle. I'd like to know what if anything to do about having the top replaced by the manufacturer, or if I will have to replace it?

In 2000, we purchased a Martha Stewart lakeside table and chair set. It was green with striped cushions and we had the umbrella to match. Last year (2008), we woke up one morning and found the glass shattered into millions of small pieces that it took forever to clean up. There was no apparent reason for it to break. My husband searched the site and found nothing but the broken glass. We did not even think of contacting anyone; we thought it was just a freak accident. But then I heard other people say they had the same thing happen. I have a friend who has the same set and I let her know about it. This poses a danger - what if the table was filled with hot food when it happened?

My boyfriend and I were sitting at our Martha Stewart Melrose patio set on Easter Sunday and all of a sudden the glass exploded, literally exploded in trillions of pieces of glass shards all over us and my deck. Thank God, no one was seriously hurt but he did suffer three bloody cuts. The glass was all over our legs and clothing. It was a horrible, horrible mess, not to mention it took literally hours to clean up. We're afraid our kids, pets or ourselves could still get cut from the glass that is wedged in our deck. I have read numerous complaints about the exact same thing happening. I paid over $500 for this set. Now, I have six chairs and a table with no glass. I am very disappointed in the quality of this patio set. I will never buy anything with Martha Stewart's name on it ever again nor will any of my friends or family.

We purchased a Martha Stewart glass patio table and had it for several years. One afternoon, I went to slide the table over in order to move it and the glass exploded into a million tiny shards. It fell onto the deck (sticking into the soft cedar wood) and below the deck. At first, I thought that I did something to cause this, but everyone that I told said that it was impossible for the glass to explode like that just by moving the table around a bit. I was researching customer reviews of new patio bar sets when I came across this site. I was amazed to hear that I am not the only one this has happened to. I would hope that Martha Stewart and company would do right by her customers and offer some type of compensation. Consequences: glass imbedded into wood deck, loss of table, and minor cuts from glass clean up.

Yesterday, while my husband, 90-year-old mother and I sat visiting around the dining table, it exploded into a thousand pieces right in front of our eyes. We were covered with glass and were in shock at what had happened. Fortunately, no one was injured. The entire set is and has been in a controlled, closed in balcony with heat and air, so the temperature was not an issue. We are all senior citizens so the unit was not misused. I went online to see if there were any other reports and was shocked again to see the number of complaints! I want my story added to the list.

Two years after I purchased this set, the glass on the leaf design coffee table shattered into a hundred pieces. The following year, the glass on the round table shattered. I still have all of my receipts and photographs to prove the damage. The damage was not due to abuse by the owner. A defect in the product is obviously the cause. It is just unfortunate when you spend a lot of money on a product, take good care of it, and it is no longer usable due to a defect that apparently the manufacturer and distributor knew about.

Luckily, there were no major injuries, only small cuts from spending numerous hours cleaning it up. It just shattered all over (and below) our raised deck, putting our family and pets in danger. The glass was cleaned off the deck, but remains underneath as it is difficult to get to it completely. The glass still remains under the deck where people and pets travel many times in the summer, without shoes.
