Today, my Martha Stewart Patio Table Glass exploded on my deck. I currently have shards of glass everywhere. Luckily, neither my daughter or my small dog was on deck, which is their typical spot during the day. As a fan of Martha's show and a purchaser of her cookbooks, even I know that Martha Stewart/K-mart's ability to profit from the sale of these substandard products must come to an end.

Not one but two Martha Stewart Glass Topped Patio Tables which were purchased in the past five years exploded into small glass pebbles. The last time was this July 4th, with six young grandchildren sitting around it. Luckily, they all escaped with minor cuts. I was not aware of a problem with the tables until I saw an article on the internet today.

My elderly mother had a Martha Stewart table that shattered unexpectedly in May, 2010. It has been in a screened in porch. Luckily, no one was hurt. My sister went to clean up the lazy susan had dropped down into the middle of the glass mess. She picked that up to start cleaning and the lazy susan shattered in her hands also. She was not hurt, but glass blew everywhere. Luckily, no one was there. I would think that refunding the cost of the entire set would be appropriate. I would think that someone should stop Martha Stewart from manufacturing these and make her pay a penalty. She benefited from the sale. She should pay people that have purchased her inferior products.

I, too, bought the Martha Stewart patio set in 2003. My set was on the porch, not in direct sunlight. I was in the yard watering flowers & I heard a terrible glass breakage only to find that my oval table glass top had literally exploded. Glass flew all over my porch and barley missed me. I confronted K-Mart And even took pictures of all the glass. I was told they could do nothing about it. I even submitted a complaint on the Martha Stewart website, but I never was contacted. I am very disappointed in K-Mart & Martha Stewart products!

Our Martha Stewart patio table shattered right before my eyes. I would not have believed it had I not seen it myself. There was no reason for it happening. It spontaneously broke apart in a million pieces. Glass everywhere! It was two years old, only used for a few months, the past two summers, taken apart and stored for winter. Wish I had read all of these similar stories before I purchased it.

I was walking from the car to the garage and heard a crashing sound. I looked around inside the garage to see if something fell, but found nothing out of place. I walked around to the deck in the back and found the glass in my Martha Stewart round table was laying on the deck in pieces. No one was around so I know it wasn't caused by another person or animal. We are preparing to go clean it all up shortly. What a mess!

As so many have already reported the Martha Stewart patio set we have owned, purchased at K-mart approximately may 2003, came to a shattering end this morning 05 July 2010. I was walking my dog as I do every morning @ 08:30, and when I was passing my next door neighbors' home I heard a "loud crack." Knowing my neighbor was out of town, I went to investigate in his back yard thinking someone may have broken in to his home through his sliding glass door. Nothing! I continued on the walk, returned home about 09:45 and as I washed my hands at the kitchen sink, I looked out the window to our deck, and there it was. The crack was my patio set table top in thousand of shards of glass. No one was injured, thankfully.

On July 4, 2010, I returned home to find my husband and brother amid thousands of glass shards on our covered patio deck. What a way to celebrate the holiday! The large bottom glass of the 54" lazy Susan table had exploded. Luckily, no one was injured. We have had the table and 5 chairs since purchasing it from K-Mart in California in 2003. It was never exposed to direct sunlight and survived our move from CA to MI. It's unconscionable that Martha Stewart and K-Mart have collectively ignored the hundreds of complaints that continue to amass!

We paid about $300 for the set that is now ruined. It took more than two hours of painstaking cleanup using brooms, shop-vac and a long handled screw driver to remove shards from between the deck floor boards. I can't imagine what would have happened we had been at the table eating or sitting anywhere near it. As seniors on a limited budget, we don't relish forking over for a new table that will match the rest of the set.

My husband and I purchased a Martha Stewart 7 piece round glass with Lazy Susan patio table set in 2002. When the table was delivered, the glass was broken in the box, but K-mart did deliver another with no problem. In the winter, we have always stored the table in or 2nd garage, covered with nothing on top as a precaution. In March this year (2010), as the weather started getting warmer, I went in the garage to clean and dust to prepare to bring it out as usual, then I noticed the cover sagging, and the reason was that the glass was shattered in tiny pieces, such as a shattered car window would appear. I was devastated!

I accused my husband of being careless of doing something to cause this. Now, after reading the many complaints of those who have suffered the same, I have apologized to my husband. I loved the set and now have the chore of trying to find a glass company to replace it and shudder to find out what the cost might be or if it will be worth the effort. After trying to get help from K-mart, no one claims to know anything. If K-mart ever goes out of business, I won't miss them. As far as Martha Stewart, by not standing by a product she has her name attached to, maybe she should go back to jail. The first stint wasn't long enough. I have no table, am out of a lot of money, and will incur more expense by replacing the table or the glass. I would be happy to be mentioned in a class action suit!

I was standing on my patio, about 5 feet from my patio furniture and it exploded right in front of my eyes- I could'nt believe my eyes. I stood there frozen. I now have a pile of ice blue glass under my table. I'd like to have some recourse, but it sounds like Martha collects the money and runs. She does not claim responsibility for anything that she sells, but gladly collects the money for the same.

After reading how many people have been affected by her exploding tables, I don't know how she can sleep at night. Some people have no conscience! I am now out a patio table and I was very upset and stressed when this happened today, thinking that my grandchildren could have been sitting there. There is glass all over my patio, mostly under the table, but as far away as 6 ft, what a sound when it exploded. I'll never forget it. Feudal drivings.

I won’t know if any shards got in the pool until I have it checked out. We usually have a yard full of family, but not today, thank goodness. It will cost me $200.00 to replace the table top (at least) and not with a Stewart exploding table, another $100 for an outdoor rug that was under the table which was shredded, plus what if my hand requires a doctor’s visit and if the pool sustained any damage?

The shattered glass table happened to me in the late summer of 2007. I purchased the outdoor dining set at my local Kmart in Bridgehampton (which is also Martha's local store). While I was out shopping for a dinner party, unknown to me, the tabletop had exploded, the umbrella fell through my kitchen window, broke the screen, toppled a vase which turned on my faucet, and flooded my kitchen. You can't make this up, and I have witnesses. I never knew what caused this until I came across this complaint site regarding the exploding tabletops. I had to buy a whole new table as it made no sense to replace the glass in the original. Additionally, my patio is bluestone and the glass pieces took weeks to pick out of all the cracks, a nightmare indeed.

Please keep me informed as to the development of events. Minimally buyers should be compensated for the cost of the furniture! As I mentioned, my kitchen screen was torn, the kitchen flooded and my pine floors were soaked, necessitating some replacements and resanding and staining. As I said, I have witnesses and you can't really make this up it was the strangest thing to come home to a gushing faucet, screen above the sink with an umbrella in it, the vase covering the drain, which resulted in the flooding.

The chase lounge popped most of its supporting bands with just a 180 pound adult sitting on it and my kids broke more. I had to drill sheet metal screws into the frame at each end of the supporting band just to hold an adult without breaking. The glass table top ended up being a faulty design because of a lack of support. It eventually shattered by being tipped on its side. This table would only survive under the most ideal circumstances. I also had the table on its side during assembly when I first got it. Clearly, the table had been weakened over time due to its large diameter with no center support. I am finally over Martha. No one was actually touching the table at the moment it shattered. There was no cause for this to happen (there was no umbrella used with table because it is under a covered porch and there was no wind). The glass is supposed to be a type of safety glass that breaks into pieces that won't cause as much injury, but that isn't the case here. It broke into those small cubes but it also created millions of little slivers of glass that cut all of our legs and feet. We hadn't even moved when it happened and we looked down and all of our legs and feet were bleeding. My two dogs had been sleeping on the sofa in front of the table and were now scared and standing in the glass. I put the dogs inside and went back to sweep up the glass which had broken into thousands of small pieces.

Before I did, I heard noises coming from the pile of glass. It sounded like popping and I saw pieces of glass continue to move in the pile as if they were still breaking just lying there on the ground, like jumping beans. I swept up all the glass and saved it in a bucket in the garage. I'm afraid of it exploding out of the bucket but I am saving it in case it needs testing or for evidence. When it broke, there was nothing heavy on the table, only a plant in a container the size of a coffee cup, three small glass tea lights and a small ceramic solar fairy. There was no physical damage other than the scare from the sudden explosion and now anxiety of a re-occurrence. The cleanup was lengthy and the economic damage would be the cost of the table.

On March 16, 2010 around 4:00 pm, I was in my kitchen when I heard a very loud sound. I thought something had hit the side of my house. When I looked out my patio door, everything looked fine. It was a beautiful sunny 70-degree day and I could not determine where the loud noise came from. We purchased our 5-piece Martha Stewart patio set from K-Mart in 2002 after our deck was built. It has always been in our enclosed gazebo away from the elements.

I was having surgery the next day and had to do a prep for it, so I went upstairs. Later on that evening I went to close my patio door and that was when I noticed something sparkling on the gazebo floor. I was alarmed to see all the glass in the table had shattered, except for the Lazy Susan in the middle. There were hundreds of pieces of glass everywhere. I could not clean up the huge mess due to being medically disabled for almost 2 months. I am thankful no one was hurt.

We now have 5 cushioned chairs with no table. I really liked this set and enjoyed using it to entertain. I thought Martha Stewart produced quality merchandise that lasted. I would like to file a complaint and seek restitution. I can not afford to purchase a new patio set. This one cost over $400. The glass is embedded in between the decking floor of the gazebo, which causes a safety concern. As we often do not wear shoes in the gazebo.

I bought a Martha Stewart Patio set 6 years ago when I first moved into my place. I looked out the window of my back door and didn't hear or see any commotion. All of our backyards are divided by 8 foot wooden fencing, so I figured something happened at a neighbors but no commotion was going on, so I went on about my evening.

When I let my dog out this morning, I saw the crashing noise I heard was my patio table which was shattered in thousands of tiny pieces. My first reaction was to check for any objects that may have landed on it to cause the damage but I found nothing. I Google what would cause a glass patio table to shatter and I found a slew of information on spontaneous shattering. No one was injured. It's now time to look into a new set, maybe Teak wood. We purchased our patio set, inclusive of 5 chairs and a glass table-top with a lazy suzy, from K-Mart approximately 4 years ago. I don't recall the name of the collection, but it had leaves embossed in the glass. It was a Martha Stewart collection and the price was over $400. Last night, the table top spontaneously exploded. Thank goodness, no one was sitting at the table. My mother was with me when I made the purchase. She liked the same pattern and style so much that she also purchased a set with different pieces.

About a year ago, she called to tell me that her table in the sun room had imploded with my 6-year old nephew playing close to it. Bear in mind that her sun room is air conditioned, as an extension to her home. She went to K-Mart to inquire as to what could have possibly happened. They acted as if they had never heard of something like this ever happening.

We talked about the fact that maybe this was not Martha's better work, but she still demanded a pricey wage for her product and name. Also, we were both experiencing cushion fabric issues. Even though her furniture was inside and mine was outside, we both experienced torn and frayed fabric. I was so careful to bring my cushions in during the winter or when bad weather was forecast.

I replaced the cushions last summer (not with Martha Stewart, but Better Homes and Gardens) at the cost of $250 and stone painted the frames on the chairs and table. After the implosion last night of the table top and remembering my mom's experience, I went online to inquire as to whether others have had a similar experience with Martha Stewart patio furniture. It didn't take many clicks to realize that complaints had been made to K-Mart and Martha Stewart corporation. K-Mart in Columbus has closed.

I live in the Jackson area and the K-Mart here has also closed. I don't know what to do but file this complaint and hope there is restitution made to people who made this purchase. I sincerely hope this issue is addressed to prevent any injuries. We were lucky that no one was sitting at the table. There was shattered glass everywhere. We are still trying to get it out from the spaces between the deck flooring. The weather was fine and the table had no cracks or chips. The patio furniture was very well maintained. I have the table frame and I saved some pieces of the glass. I would love to understand what could have possibly happened.

When we took it out, it had started to rust at every weld joint and where the plastic feet are inserted into the legs. I was told, “This set is made of steel and steel rusts, so it is an act of God." I don't think God put the paint on this bar set. It is a disgrace to sell products like this that don't last even one year. Martha Stewart should be very careful about which products she endorses.

I did not even know about all these other people having the same problem until I went to look up the furniture as now my cushion ripped on the one chair and I wanted to try to fix it. I had to buy a whole new table as K-Mart would not do anything about it, claimed it must have been something I did to the table. Hoffman Estates Illinois, 60179 To Whom It May Concern, My husband and I recently purchased a Martha Stewart Everyday Garden Melrose Collection from K-Mart in York County, Virginia. In September to our surprise, my husband went outside and noticed that one panel of the bar was completely shattered! There was no visible reason as to what was the cause of this. The glass was shattered all over the patio. It was a huge pile of glass and took over an hour to clean up the glass. Luckily none of it went in our pool! I have attached photos of this and the table described below. Previously, we had purchased a large Martha Stewart table and 6 chairs for our sunroom. We use this almost on a daily basis especially during the summer. It is housed in a glass enclosed sunroom where it is protected from the elements. While my daughter was doing her home work in the sunroom, she heard a crackling noise. She said the glass table just shattered. Luckily, she wasn’t sitting at the table! She told me as soon as I got home from work. Another unreliable, unsafe Martha Stewart product, another few hours to clean up a pile of shattered glass and now unusable Martha Stewart furniture. Imagine two Martha Stewart products (within a few weeks) having the same thing happened to them. Both pieces of furniture are now completely useless to me and my family. I can’t even imagine how much the glass would cost to replace! While speaking with my cousin who lives in New York, I mentioned what happened to both the table and the bar. She stated that the same thing happened to her Martha Stewart patio table. This seems to be more than a coincidence. What kind of products is your company producing? Obviously the glass is inferior. I have always heard (before these incidents) that Martha Stewart products were a great addition and value to any home. I am very concerned not only for myself but for others. What happens if a group of people are sitting at the table or bar they have purchased and the glass just shatters as it did twice to us? I am also sending a hard copy of this letter by mail. I am eagerly awaiting a response and some kind of resolution to my concerns. Thank God no one was seated or in the room at the time...not cats nor grandchildren! When I called the manager at K Mart this morning ahe claimed that she 'had never heard of such a 'problem'. Like so many other consumers that I have read about online, I too was duped by an exploding Martha Stewart patio table with the leaf glass design. It was purchased at Kmart and has been under a shaded patio since I bought it. Hence, the recent weather in the high 80s seemed a highly unlikely reason for the explosion. I am so grateful that all of my dinner guests had stayed indoors the day it blew! What a dangerous explosion! I am amazed that these tables were not recalled. What a dangerous game Kmart and Martha are playing. The consequence is the cost of the entire patio set as no one can get a safe replacement, much less one at all. I plan to go to a custom glass house this weekend. I am sure that will be a pretty penny to do what Martha should have done right in the first place.

Well, it finally happened. I've joined the elite group of people all over the United States who have a Martha Stewart patio table minus the glass top. I woke up this morning to a patio covered in millions of pieces of glass. Sometime during the night, it exploded. We purchased this set at Kmart close to nine years ago. At least we are lucky enough to have owned it long enough that I feel we got our money's worth out of it.

I first heard about the table's defect several years ago. But what do you do? Get rid of a very nice table set, because it might explode? Well, when you put it like that... Anyway, after a time, I even forgot about it. Luckily, no one was around the table when it happened. I really don't understand how no one is being accountable for this issue. Well, time to shop for a new patio set, and I certainly will not be looking at any Martha Stewart product!

I have had my Martha Stewart Victoria Collection patio table for approximately 10 years. I loved that table. It had grace and style and it was affordable. Unfortunately, when I returned home from errands last Monday, I was about to let my dog into the backyard and noticed a lot of reflection and shiny material on the flagstone patio. I realized to my horror that it was the remains of my once beautiful table! The umbrella was positioned above it, opened, and had sustained no damage from anything, i.e. a falling limb, etc., and I had to surmise that the table simply imploded on its own. The weather was mild and sunny, I just could not understand what had happened until I Googled Kmart Martha Stewart patio table and was amazed that it brought up (many) complaints just like mine! I called my husband, who did a search, and told me later that the company who manufactured the table for Kmart had gone bankrupt suddenly. Then, I called Kmart and was told they are not liable for the table.

On 8/19/09, at approximately 8 pm, the glass top of our Martha Stewart patio table (which was purchased at Kmart in East Brunswick, NJ) shattered into tiny pieces, which scattered over our deck. At the time of the shattering, three adults were sitting at the table who observed that nothing fell into or onto the table. Thankfully, the children who were previously seated at the table had already left the table area. After the explosion of glass, you could hear crackling sounds as the glass continued to break into smaller pieces.

Thankfully, no one was seriously injured during this explosion of glass. A few minor cuts of glass shavings in fingers were all the injuries we encountered. The glass pieces were so small we had to use a shop vac to pick them up. Even after numerous shop vac runs, some glass pieces are still surfacing. We threw out the clothes/pool towels that were on the chairs around the table. We received one estimate so far of approximately $200 to replace the table top with plexiglass. We are hoping no glass reaches the pool causing damage to our pool liner. We also hope no one steps on any of the tiny pieces of glass that may surface in the future.

I emailed the Kmart Corp. yesterday and have not yet received a reply. I had no idea until after I sent that email that this has been a widespread problem for the past few years. I think it is poor business and very irresponsible that Kmart and/or Martha Stewart have not recalled/replaced these items if they knew this was a strong possibility.
