Our Martha Stewart tempered glass dining table, which we purchased at KMart, was covered with a canopy sitting in front of our shed. When we removed the cover in March, there was glass everywhere because the table had shattered. We were very puzzled by this because there was nothing on or around it that would indicate any reason for it to shatter. We have been unable to sit at our table, which was purchased to accommodate five coordinating wide chairs, along with its convenient rotating serving tray. It has made dining in our backyard much less desirable as we are not able to purchase a new table.

Glass table shattered onto our brick patio. Millions of little pieces and shavings of glass in the patio. So many glass shaving that our kids cannot use our large patio without shoes on! I had to get rid of our patio set due to high cost to replace glass. Slivers of glass everywhere in grass and patio.

The glass pieces fell between the spaces of wood planks on my wood deck. I have a 6 year old and a new baby on the way. It was such a pain to clean up the glass on a hot summer day. Now I still have to worry about my children walking on the deck and getting cut by the glass. Most likely my kids will get their feet cut and make a trip to the hospital. Thanks Martha Stewart for selling me junky furniture and putting jobs overseas.

The shattered glass table happened to me in the late summer of 2007. I purchased the outdoor dining set at my local Kmart in Bridgehampton (which is also Martha's local store). While I was out shopping for a dinner party, unknown to me, the tabletop had exploded, the umbrella fell through my kitchen window, broke the screen, toppled a vase which turned on my faucet, and flooded my kitchen. You can't make this up, and I have witnesses. I never knew what caused this until I came across this complaint site regarding the exploding tabletops. I had to buy a whole new table as it made no sense to replace the glass in the original. Additionally, my patio is bluestone and the glass pieces took weeks to pick out of all the cracks, a nightmare indeed.
Please keep me informed as to the development of events. Minimally buyers should be compensated for the cost of the furniture! As I mentioned, my kitchen screen was torn, the kitchen flooded and my pine floors were soaked, necessitating some replacements and resanding and staining. As I said, I have witnesses and you can't really make this up it was the strangest thing to come home to a gushing faucet, screen above the sink with an umbrella in it, the vase covering the drain, which resulted in the flooding.

My children purchased 11 pieces of a Martha Steward matching patio set from K-Mart. The table shattered, just like many others I have read about, for no apparent reason. We were not injured, but what a mess to clean all that shattered glass! My children paid to have this assembled, so I am sure it was not our fault. It does not pay to have a new glass top made, so now I have to find a table to match all of these other pieces. The set is not that old, and they spent a lot of money on it. This is very upsetting, and I am sure I will have no luck contacting K-Mart. If there is a suit going on, please add me to it. I think Martha Stewart should make good for these tables!

I can't believe that I bought this poor excuse for a patio set. We purchased a 9-piece set of Martha Stewart Patio furniture and have had a lot of problems with it. The chase lounge popped most of its supporting bands with just a 180 pound adult sitting on it and my kids broke more. I had to drill sheet metal screws into the frame at each end of the supporting band just to hold an adult without breaking. The glass table top ended up being a faulty design because of a lack of support. It eventually shattered by being tipped on its side. This table would only survive under the most ideal circumstances. I also had the table on its side during assembly when I first got it. Clearly, the table had been weakened over time due to its large diameter with no center support. I am finally over Martha. What a witch.

This morning, we walked out into our backyard and found our Martha Stewart glass table top had exploded. The Lazy Susan part of the table top was still in one piece resting on the four legs. We too bought this rather expensive patio set at Kmart. The cost to replace the glass or table will be in the hundreds of dollars. Reading the other complaints, I guess we are not alone.

We had the Martha Stewart Olympia Patio set for four years. Table and chairs were in great condition. One morning, three days before Memorial Day 2010, we awoke to find the table on our patio shattered into millions of pieces. We had no idea how it happened.

On Memorial Day, we had some friends over and were sitting around our glass table with Lazy Susan, from the Martha Stewart collection when for no apparent reason, the table exploded on top of us. No one was actually touching the table at the moment it shattered. There was no cause for this to happen (there was no umbrella used with table because it is under a covered porch and there was no wind). The glass is supposed to be a type of safety glass that breaks into pieces that won't cause as much injury, but that isn't the case here. It broke into those small cubes but it also created millions of little slivers of glass that cut all of our legs and feet. We hadn't even moved when it happened and we looked down and all of our legs and feet were bleeding. We have swept, vacuumed numerous times and are still getting those tiny slivers of glass in our feet.

I, like several others, had the glass table explode and busted into tiny pieces for no apparent reasons. This entire set was a very expensive set by Martha Stewart and I still have the entire set except for the glass. I had estimates to replace the glass but they want $180+. If there is a defect, I would like to know if something can be done about it.
I was very fortunate no one was sitting at the table when it decided to basically explode for no reason. But if it was known to be defective, the manufacturer should make it right with us consumers. I still have all my receipts for the entire set.

My wife and I were sitting in the next room when we heard a loud crash. We thought it was a traffic accident, but then realized the glass table top in our three season room had shattered. Luckily, no one was sitting at the table. It shattered into thousands of pieces. I did an internet search and found hundreds of people that have reported the same situation. Please ad us to any class action suite that is in process. No option for replacement, so I'll have to junk the table frame and try to find something sort of replacement. I will never have anything good to say about MS. Stewart again. Maybe she should stick to insider-trading instead of selling her junk.

We purchased a Martha Stewart patio set about 3-4 years ago. It was a matching seven-piece hexagon with umbrella. While setting it up this year for Memorial Day, I brought out the table, went back for some chairs and upon returning the whole glass top had shattered. I just googled it to see if I could get a replacement and discovered so many other shattering incidents. Just thought I would put my story in here. It’s also nice for my wife to know that it was not my fault! It is sad because such a distinct table is hard to replace. So do you buy a new set or cut some plywood?

I bought a Martha Stewart Patio Set about 5 years ago and came home one night to find that the glass table top had shattered into many small pieces. I threw the table frame out because it was too expensive to replace it. It wasn't until I read something on the Internet about everyone else that had the same problem. I kept the chairs, hoping I can find an inexpensive table to match. I didn't take a picture or save any of the glass, I guess I'm out of luck.

I purchased a patio set from K-Mart - table with lazy Susan, four chairs, umbrella and stand, small table, and two chairs. I got it at the end of the season. I stored it in the garage in all the original packing. In the spring I was having my deck fixed and didn't attempt to put the set up until the summer. One afternoon I heard something in the garage pop loudly. Upon investigating, I found nothing. A couple of weeks later, I was moving the set out and realized the table was completely in pieces. I could hear the pieces moving around in the box. The table was properly stored and nothing was sitting on top of it. It is still in box.
I attempted to return it to K-Mart and they refused, stating the amount of time since purchase. I looked at the price of another table. The two issues with that are: 1) it’s more than I wanted to spend with a whole new set at home, and 2) they did not have the color anymore. I tried to get the glass replaced and it cost as much as a whole new set. I thought I would try Martha Stewart online for help and found all the other complaints on the same product. Thank God mine was still in the box as I have a young son that loves to be outside on the deck. I am currently without a patio set. I spent a little over five hundred dollars for a complete set that I cannot use, restore, or replace. The store refused to help me and never shared any information on the issues with the furniture. We were fortunate that no one was hurt. I would like to have replacement cost for the set I purchased.

My neighbor's were over for Memorial weekend get together. We were all sitting around table and unexpectedly, the table shattered into small pieces and everything broke that was on the table. We were all shocked. We had cuts and scrapes on our legs. I am very upset about this. I feel Kmart knew. We had the table for about 7 or 8 years. I have another one in the shed that they gave me for free. I now know why, they "knew" and did not care and wanted to give it away. I want to be compensated for this. Thanks.

I bought a Martha Stewart 7 piece patio table and chairs with matching umbrella about 3 years ago. Last year, the button that controls the tilting of the umbrella popped off and could not be re-attached. After storing the set for the winter, we put it back out this month and the umbrella will only open in a vertical tilt which makes it unusable. It matches the chairs and I cannot find one to replace it anywhere. Boo! If we could replace it, it would run around $100.

I was in the yard on May 25, 2010 with my back to the covered porch where I have a Martha Stewart patio set from Kmart. I bought it over 10 years ago and it has been used indoors until a year ago when I put it on the patio. On May 25, 2010, I heard a crash of glass and turned to see the entire table top shattered and lying on the ground. My two dogs had been sleeping on the sofa in front of the table and were now scared and standing in the glass. I put the dogs inside and went back to sweep up the glass which had broken into thousands of small pieces.
Before I did, I heard noises coming from the pile of glass. It sounded like popping and I saw pieces of glass continue to move in the pile as if they were still breaking just lying there on the ground, like jumping beans. I swept up all the glass and saved it in a bucket in the garage. I'm afraid of it exploding out of the bucket but I am saving it in case it needs testing or for evidence. When it broke, there was nothing heavy on the table, only a plant in a container the size of a coffee cup, three small glass tea lights and a small ceramic solar fairy. There was no physical damage other than the scare from the sudden explosion and now anxiety of a re-occurrence. The cleanup was lengthy and the economic damage would be the cost of the table.

Now I am afraid the rest of the set will shatter also. I am glad we were not on the patio when it happened or someone would have been injured. I purchased a Martha Stewart patio set from Kmart which included a glass top. Need I say more? Yes, it shattered into a million tiny pieces, tiny pieces of glass everywhere including the cracks on my deck. I saw it happen. It shattered from nothing, a slight breeze and boom!
I had this patio set for less than one summer, a few months, that is all. I don't understand how Kmart does not have to take responsibility for a defective piece of merchandise. What is different about this as opposed to being able to return a toy that is defective?

On March 16, 2010 around 4:00 pm, I was in my kitchen when I heard a very loud sound. I thought something had hit the side of my house. When I looked out my patio door, everything looked fine. It was a beautiful sunny 70-degree day and I could not determine where the loud noise came from. We purchased our 5-piece Martha Stewart patio set from K-Mart in 2002 after our deck was built. It has always been in our enclosed gazebo away from the elements.
I was having surgery the next day and had to do a prep for it, so I went upstairs. Later on that evening I went to close my patio door and that was when I noticed something sparkling on the gazebo floor. I was alarmed to see all the glass in the table had shattered, except for the Lazy Susan in the middle. There were hundreds of pieces of glass everywhere. I could not clean up the huge mess due to being medically disabled for almost 2 months. I am thankful no one was hurt.
We now have 5 cushioned chairs with no table. I really liked this set and enjoyed using it to entertain. I thought Martha Stewart produced quality merchandise that lasted. I would like to file a complaint and seek restitution. I can not afford to purchase a new patio set. This one cost over $400. The glass is embedded in between the decking floor of the gazebo, which causes a safety concern. As we often do not wear shoes in the gazebo.

I bought a Martha Stewart Patio set 6 years ago when I first moved into my place. Last night 5/25/2010, between 10 and 10:30pm, I heard a loud crashing noise towards the back of the Townhouse (quad) I live in. I looked out the window of my back door and didn't hear or see any commotion. All of our backyards are divided by 8 foot wooden fencing, so I figured something happened at a neighbors but no commotion was going on, so I went on about my evening.
When I let my dog out this morning, I saw the crashing noise I heard was my patio table which was shattered in thousands of tiny pieces. My first reaction was to check for any objects that may have landed on it to cause the damage but I found nothing. I Google what would cause a glass patio table to shatter and I found a slew of information on spontaneous shattering. No one was injured. It's now time to look into a new set, maybe Teak wood. I wish I had known this was a possibility prior to purchasing a product with the possibility of this happening. Thank goodness, no one was sitting at the table when it happened.

We purchased our patio set, inclusive of 5 chairs and a glass table-top with a lazy suzy, from K-Mart approximately 4 years ago. I don't recall the name of the collection, but it had leaves embossed in the glass. It was a Martha Stewart collection and the price was over $400. Last night, the table top spontaneously exploded. Thank goodness, no one was sitting at the table. My mother was with me when I made the purchase. She liked the same pattern and style so much that she also purchased a set with different pieces.
About a year ago, she called to tell me that her table in the sun room had imploded with my 6-year old nephew playing close to it. Bear in mind that her sun room is air conditioned, as an extension to her home. She went to K-Mart to inquire as to what could have possibly happened. They acted as if they had never heard of something like this ever happening.
We talked about the fact that maybe this was not Martha's better work, but she still demanded a pricey wage for her product and name. Also, we were both experiencing cushion fabric issues. Even though her furniture was inside and mine was outside, we both experienced torn and frayed fabric. I was so careful to bring my cushions in during the winter or when bad weather was forecast.
I replaced the cushions last summer (not with Martha Stewart, but Better Homes and Gardens) at the cost of $250 and stone painted the frames on the chairs and table. After the implosion last night of the table top and remembering my mom's experience, I went online to inquire as to whether others have had a similar experience with Martha Stewart patio furniture. It didn't take many clicks to realize that complaints had been made to K-Mart and Martha Stewart corporation. K-Mart in Columbus has closed.
I live in the Jackson area and the K-Mart here has also closed. I don't know what to do but file this complaint and hope there is restitution made to people who made this purchase. I sincerely hope this issue is addressed to prevent any injuries. We were lucky that no one was sitting at the table. There was shattered glass everywhere. We are still trying to get it out from the spaces between the deck flooring. The weather was fine and the table had no cracks or chips. The patio furniture was very well maintained. I have the table frame and I saved some pieces of the glass. I would love to understand what could have possibly happened.

Not only has there been no recall, or warning notice, but Kmart continues to sell these tables to unsuspecting customers, knowing that the glass table tops have this dangerous defect.
We were fortunate that my kids and I were not sitting at the table when it shattered, and that no one was injured. Our only real damage is the expense of having to replace the table. Our motivation in filing a complaint is to request that some type of action be taken to protect others who don't realize that they have a ticking time bomb around their family, and to put pressure on Kmart to notify people who have purchased this product about its defect, and to stop selling a dangerous product to unsuspecting customers.

I asked the customer service person if they had any other complaints and she said no. I thought I was the only one until I saw your website. They actually were going to sell me another one. When I called back to cancel my order, Ms. Rena told me that it only happens when you leave them outside. Well, it is outdoor furniture for heaven's sake! I cancelled my order. We paid about $400 for this set and know I am searching for a way to replace the table top with something that will be safe.

The entire glass patio table top (Martha Stewart Victoria Collection) shattered for no reason this weekend. Thank God, no one was injured. The glass Lazy Susan in the middle of table is fine and is not broken. This table is one piece of a six piece outdoor dining set. I expected it to last much longer. In 2004, I also purchased seven other pieces of the set as well. Other than the rusting that occurred with several of these pieces (including the dining chairs) over the years, the rest of the pieces are intact. I must purchase another table this year if I want to enjoy outdoor dining with guests. This is a monetary setback that was not budgeted for nor expected. None of the Martha Stewart items will ever be purchased again. Goodbye matching set!

The glass on my Martha Stewart patio table shattered while I was under it, tightening the umbrella into its base. Thousands of chunks of glass fell onto me leaving my arms, neck and head with several small cuts and nicks. Tiny shards of glass also embedded in my neck and shoulders. I had to shop a vacuum to gather all the pieces out of the lawn to keep my one-year old from getting anything stuck in her feet or hands. Home Depot said the glass couldn't be replaced. They only sell sets of tables with chairs but that I should contact Martha Stewart's company.
I have a patio table now with nothing in it and no way to really get something to replace the glass. The new table and chairs are about $400. I'm not buying a whole new set for replacement glass and I don't know now if I want to risk getting glass again.

On 8/19/09, at approximately 8 pm, the glass top of our Martha Stewart patio table (which was purchased at Kmart in East Brunswick, NJ) shattered into tiny pieces, which scattered over our deck. At the time of the shattering, three adults were sitting at the table who observed that nothing fell into or onto the table. Thankfully, the children who were previously seated at the table had already left the table area. After the explosion of glass, you could hear crackling sounds as the glass continued to break into smaller pieces.
Thankfully, no one was seriously injured during this explosion of glass. A few minor cuts of glass shavings in fingers were all the injuries we encountered. The glass pieces were so small we had to use a shop vac to pick them up. Even after numerous shop vac runs, some glass pieces are still surfacing. We threw out the clothes/pool towels that were on the chairs around the table. We received one estimate so far of approximately $200 to replace the table top with plexiglass. We are hoping no glass reaches the pool causing damage to our pool liner. We also hope no one steps on any of the tiny pieces of glass that may surface in the future.
I emailed the Kmart Corp. yesterday and have not yet received a reply. I had no idea until after I sent that email that this has been a widespread problem for the past few years. I think it is poor business and very irresponsible that Kmart and/or Martha Stewart have not recalled/replaced these items if they knew this was a strong possibility.

I, like others, purchased a Martha Stewart Patio set, The Victoria Collection. It consisted of 5 dining chairs and round dining table, leaf-embossed glass with Lazy Susan just above the main table. This was purchased at K-Mart. The other day, out of a clear blue sky, the main dining area of the table exploded, leaving millions of small glass particles all over the deck. I checked for anything that may have landed on the table, but found nothing. Also, the arms of the chairs have started to rust. I always take the entire set in for the winter months and did not expect this to happen. I am 72 years old, on a fixed income and will probably not be able to replace these items. Can you help? I do have pictures of the shattered glass all over the deck. Thank you.

The table and chairs are like new, but I can no longer use the table because the glass top has shattered. In reading Martha Stewart's website, this has happened to many consumers. K-Mart will not replace it. I was told to get in touch with the maker of the goods. I was told by Gary ** that if I read the fine print, there is no warranty on the glass tops. Read the consumer complaints on Martha Stewart Patio furniture. This is a common complaint and the consumer is getting taken on buying the patio table. The table top totally shattered for no apparent reason. We called Kmart to discuss what could be done. I was given the option to call a glass repairer or purchase another glass top table that the store had for half price at $80.00 or call the Martha Stewart 800 number to complain. We now have a table with no top and four chairs. The glass totally shattered onto a stone surface. Many hours were spent trying to gather slivers of glass.

This morning, I heard a loud crash on my deck, and found the glass top of a Martha Stewart Victorian patio table in a million pieces on the chairs and floor. There was no one near the table at the time, thank goodness, or I'm sure there would have been some injuries. (We'd just hosted a dinner a few days ago, and had two grandbabies in the chairs around the table.) I came online to see what I could find regarding a replacement top for the table, and stumbled upon this website. The horror stories I've just read are astounding. I had no idea! All of the situations sound identical to what we experienced.
After reading this, I would not want to replace the top, even if available, with anything from the Martha Stewart line. And if K-Mart is not willing to provide any customer service or satisfaction even though they know there are many problems existing with this furniture, certainly I would not to purchase anything else from them either. Now my question, is it only the Martha Stewart line of patio tables that are exploding, or have there been other companies with the same problem?

When we would move the table from one spot to another, we would drag it with the umbrella still attached. It was a hot summer day in western Colorado. I was sitting inside my office reading a book, with the window open and the swamp cooler on. I heard an awful crashing noise outside, I saw my dog cowering, and looked over to see my rectangular glass Martha Stewart table completely shattered. The table was under a covered/wooden patio canopy. I thought something must have fallen to cause this. Not the case! It literally just crashed and it only had on it a plate of seashells and, of course, my daughter and her two friends painted flower pots from camp.
I immediately tried to clean up the shards of glass so my dog wouldn't step in it, but the glass was literally popping and was landing on my feet. I had my neighbor come over to listen and he agreed, saw and heard the glass popping. My patio is covered, so the table never really receives direct sunlight, it is filtered. I do live in the desert, so it was 100 degrees out.
I immediately took pictures and drove to K-mart to see if there had been some sort of recall on the table or if this had happened before. They denied anything. It wasn't until I got online that I found out the truth. I will be returning to K-mart with the article I found online. I know I will probably never be financially reimbursed for this, but maybe I can spare someone else the hardship and the danger.
