I looked out into the patio room and saw that the Martha Stewart coffee tabletop we purchased at K-Mart in 2002 had shattered. Fortunately, no one was in the room. With all the similar reports, there seems to be a major problem with Martha Stewart tabletops.

We had purchased a Martha Stewart Welland 5-Piece Dining Set on July 23rd 2011. The following day, we assembled the set and placed it in the yard patio and sat around it and had a glass of wine that evening.

Two days later, we awoke and while looking outside in the morning, we had noticed that the glass top appeared to be missing from the table. Upon closer examination, we discovered that the top had exploded into a thousand small pieces for no apparent reason. Nothing had hit the table; the glass imploded on its own. Now, I have a $339.00 outdoor set that cannot be fully used.

This was before the end of June. We assumed it would not be covered and did not file a complaint with Home Depot where we purchased the patio set.

My husband and I purchased a Martha Stewart Living Cascade Valley Dining Set of 7 Pieces at Home Depot in Everett, Ma. It was purchased on May 28th 2011. On August 15th, about 3pm, my son and I heard a loud bang in the yard area. We ran out to the deck and found that the glass insert on the table has exploded. Glass was everywhere, I am lucky it was raining and no one was on the deck or it would have been catastrophic. Because the glass table exploded, I could have glass in my pool.

I did some research and the manufacturer JRA Furniture, headquartered in Cerritos, California, declared bankruptcy in 2007 due to pending lawsuits. Why is this unsafe product still sold in 2011 if the company went out of business in 2007. There are pages of complaints, the same or worse than mine, available by googling Martha Stewart patio table shattering.

What happened to Consumer protection? This is a safety issue and nothing is done to stop these stores from stocking these tables. The implied warranty of merchantability is a merchant's basic promise that the goods sold will do what they are supposed to do and that there is nothing significantly wrong with them. In other words, it is an implied promise that the goods are fit to be sold. I will be expecting a complete refund from Home Depot.

On a Sunday, in August 2011, at around 8:30 am, I heard a loud noise. I looked outside. The glass to the Martha Stewart 5-piece Welland set that I purchased in July at Home Depot, completely shattered. Shards of glass were all over the deck and were stuck within the crevices. What a mess! The cost of the set was 300+ and it only lasted a month. I am disappointed. I contacted Home Depot regarding replacing the glass top. And they directed me to email my request to product@marthastewart.com. He (Home Depot customer service rep) stated that the Martha Stewart company provided Home Depot with that email address for this type of matter. I took a photo of the set and sent an email asking for directives on how and where I could get a new glass top. I haven't received a response.

We purchased the Martha Stuart Mallorca 7-piece patio set from Home Depot on April 2, 2011. Yesterday, July 20, 2011, I heard a loud noise and upon investigation, I discovered that the glass top of the table had shattered into millions of pieces. There was not any storm or bad weather happening at the time. It is July in New England and it is hot outside.

When we called Home Depot, we were directed to Home Casuals, the manufacturer of Martha Stewart's furniture. We were told by Carmilla that there was really nothing she could do for us. It was only a 10-day warranty on the glass, and anyway they did not have any in stock and she didn't know when they would be getting them in from China. She recommended we call a glass company and have one made. When we pushed further for a replacement, she said they would, if they actually got them in, and it would cost about $200. She was ill-informed and very rude. When my husband asked to speak to her manager/supervisor, she informed him that she couldn't find her. He left the number to call us back but we never received the call. He called again to find that the office had closed and she failed to explain that to us as well.

Today, I have left a message and still have not heard back from them. An email was also sent via their website. We found today that this has happened to hundreds of other customers.

Back in 2007, we purchased a Martha Stewart glass top patio table from Kmart. Approximately two weeks ago, we found the glass top had exploded into million tiny pieces. Until now, we had no idea what happened. We have a huge aluminum awning covering our patio and nothing could have fallen on it nor could anyone have thrown something and hit it. We then searched the internet for a replacement top and read about the many other incidences just like ours.

No one was home at the time. It was just a matter of cleaning up the glass. Our concern now is that we also had purchased a round table from Kmart, also a Martha Stewart, for our summer home at the end of the summer of 2008. We are now afraid to use it.

At present time in a netted gazibo in a secluded tiled patio. On July 3, 2011, I found the glass table top had exploded. (I have pictures). Nothing had fallen on it. I was completely baffled until a friend of mine googled and asked me if the set was a Martha Stewart Set. I had gotten out my book on it to see where I could get a glass replacement and told her it was. She directed me to this site and solved the mistry.

I am amazed that something has not been done about this for all the complaints on this page going back years. It is a miracle no one has suffered major injury, especially eye damage. I have taken very good care of this set and the chairs and cushions are still beautiful. That is why I marked four stars.

I purchased a patio set on 5-10-2009 I immediately had a problem with one chair and the company sent out a new one.

Sunday July 17, 2011 we were sitting at the table for lunch. We heard a pop and the entire table went down with the food and all. My 7 yr. old grandson was cut on his foot and we are greatful noone else was hurt. This is where the problem begins. I was told KMart is not responsible and they no longer carry Martha Stewart's line. I was given a number for the Numar Co. which is the manufacturer. I spoke with a supervisor named Kim and explained what happened. She immediately explained that there is no warranty on the glass of the table. I asked why not and she replied it is like a windshield and when it breaks it shatters. I explained you can buy insurance to cover windhsields and I was not notified of any insurance they offered for glass protection, she replied because they don't offer any. I asked if I could buy the glass and was told "NO" because they don't ship glass. I asked if I could buy the table and she said yes. I immediately asked isn't that shipping glass? She replied with I am sorry but that particular table is no longer available. I stated the table is in the third season of use and $400.00 is a lot of money for not quite 3 seasons yet.

I asked to speak with her supervisor and she said I could leave my tel.# and someone would get back to me. I asked how long of a wait and she said 24 hours. I asked who would I be speaking with and she didn't know. I am complaining because it could have been more serious and upon research the Martha Stewart collection has flaws in the glass they use for the tables. I want to be re-imbursed for the table I can't buy again or have the glass replaced at their cost. I believe this is a manufacturer error with all the similar complaints I have viewed.

The warranty clearly states The defective part will be either fixed or replaced at the option of the manufacturer but the original buyer is responsible for shipping and handling.

How can I prove it is a malfunction if all I have is a garbage bag filled with glass? And why is it their option not to honor the warranty? The warranty said "glass table tops are not covered, however if the damage occurs within the warranty time frame they will at their option fix or replace it" This is a disclaimer. My warranty is still in effect!

That is very dangerous. It was purchased at K-Mart (a Martha Stewart outdoor living patio set). We contacted Kmart and wound up speaking with the manufacturer who told us that is was our fault, that it happened because the umbrella probably bumped it. I understand that there is now a class action suit and we were never contacted about it. We had to buy a new set at a time when it was very tough for us financially and couldn't get something as nice. I was also about 7 months pregnant and had to clean up the whole thing. I kept the metal table but have not replaced the glass. I am making this complaint not because I heard on the radio that this is a common problem. Yesterday, September 14, 2010, the glass top just shattered into a million pieces. Tonight, I was actually looking for a replacement table online when I ran across these other accounts of tables shattering and our experience was just like that. One evening we are sitting on the patio enjoying a cooler evening and the next day, our long used table explodes! We weren't home, but that is what it looks like it did. Ironically, the glass Lazy Susan must have ridden the tempered glass pieces down to the patio, because it is not damaged!

My question is why, after 8 or 9 years of use - sitting out during the winters in Texas - did it shatter now? Is there some atmospheric condition making them shatter now? I see complaints over a four year period on this site, but we have had our table twice that long, and other complaints indicated they bought their table as early as 2000, and it just shattered this year. That's really freaky. Now I still have to find a replacement table or go order a replacement glass. This table had the little leaf pattern in the glass and was a wonderfully strong table. All five of our grandsons have sat at that table since they were babies.

We have to get a replacement, but I do not even know where to start. I would love to know the reason for the glass to shatter now, after all those years of use that we and a few others enjoyed. If anyone finds out, please post it!

Knowing my neighbor was out of town, I went to investigate in his back yard thinking someone may have broken in to his home through his sliding glass door. Nothing! I continued on the walk, returned home about 09:45 and as I washed my hands at the kitchen sink, I looked out the window to our deck, and there it was. The crack was my patio set table top in thousand of shards of glass. No one was injured, thankfully.

On July 4, 2010, I returned home to find my husband and brother amid thousands of glass shards on our covered patio deck. What a way to celebrate the holiday! The large bottom glass of the 54" lazy Susan table had exploded. Luckily, no one was injured. We have had the table and 5 chairs since purchasing it from K-Mart in California in 2003. It was never exposed to direct sunlight and survived our move from CA to MI. It's unconscionable that Martha Stewart and K-Mart have collectively ignored the hundreds of complaints that continue to amass!

We paid about $300 for the set that is now ruined. It took more than two hours of painstaking cleanup using brooms, shop-vac and a long handled screw driver to remove shards from between the deck floor boards. I can't imagine what would have happened we had been at the table eating or sitting anywhere near it. As seniors on a limited budget, we don't relish forking over for a new table that will match the rest of the set.

I bought my Martha Stewart Patio set 5 Years ago. I store it in the garage during the winter. Yesterday was a warm day, with nobody near the table, when all of a sudden, it exploded into thousands of tiny pieces. Luckily there was no children around. What's K-Mart or that ex-convict Martha ** going to do about it now?

My husband and I purchased a Martha Stewart 7 piece round glass with Lazy Susan patio table set in 2002. When the table was delivered, the glass was broken in the box, but K-mart did deliver another with no problem. In the winter, we have always stored the table in or 2nd garage, covered with nothing on top as a precaution. In March this year (2010), as the weather started getting warmer, I went in the garage to clean and dust to prepare to bring it out as usual, then I noticed the cover sagging, and the reason was that the glass was shattered in tiny pieces, such as a shattered car window would appear. I was devastated!

I accused my husband of being careless of doing something to cause this. Now, after reading the many complaints of those who have suffered the same, I have apologized to my husband. I loved the set and now have the chore of trying to find a glass company to replace it and shudder to find out what the cost might be or if it will be worth the effort. After trying to get help from K-mart, no one claims to know anything. If K-mart ever goes out of business, I won't miss them. As far as Martha Stewart, by not standing by a product she has her name attached to, maybe she should go back to jail. The first stint wasn't long enough. I have no table, am out of a lot of money, and will incur more expense by replacing the table or the glass. I would be happy to be mentioned in a class action suit!

I was walking toward my table to sit down and eat a meal when it suddenly imploded into a million tiny pieces. Nothing was on or near it. I purchased this table 1 month prior and now it is obsolete. Where can I find a replacement top? I am at a $300 loss, not to mention a cut to my elbow from the glass imploding and 2 hours of picking up tiny little glass shards so my daughter doesn't get cut on the deck.

Last night my Martha Stewart glass patio table shattered into thousands of pieces. There was nothing around to cause this and now I am without a table. I am told by K-Mart that they will not replace the table or glass and that the manufacturer is out of business, so I am SOL. I will take my business elsewhere in the future to a company that can back their product.

I was standing on my patio, about 5 feet from my patio furniture and it exploded right in front of my eyes- I could'nt believe my eyes. I stood there frozen. I now have a pile of ice blue glass under my table. I'd like to have some recourse, but it sounds like Martha collects the money and runs. She does not claim responsibility for anything that she sells, but gladly collects the money for the same.

After reading how many people have been affected by her exploding tables, I don't know how she can sleep at night. Some people have no conscience! I am now out a patio table and I was very upset and stressed when this happened today, thinking that my grandchildren could have been sitting there. There is glass all over my patio, mostly under the table, but as far away as 6 ft, what a sound when it exploded. I'll never forget it. Feudal drivings.

I was horrified. What could have caused this glass to just let go and shatter? I have minor cuts on my legs from sitting there when the glass shattered, but all I want is a replacement table.

I was cleaning my patio table (Martha Stewart octagon shaped) and putting cushions on the chairs. While leaning over to clean the glass, the table suddenly cracked and fell down onto my deck into little shards. I suffered two (2) deep cuts on my left wrist. I had to get someone to come over to help me get the glass up as much as possible. I bandaged my arm and am now at a complete loss as to what to do next.

My neighbor, who happened to be outside on his patio, heard a loud noise but did not go to investigate. I was forced to buy a new patio set, not Martha Stewart brand and spent two full days cleaning up tiny morsels of glass. Very disappointed. I am a 65 years old woman who physically was forced to spend 2 days in the sweltering heat cleaning glass from my patio. I was forced to purchase a new table and matching chairs since I was expecting guests a week later.

I woke up this morning to find that the table top had just crumbled into small cubes of glass. I have a pool and therefore have locked fence surrounding my backyard. There was nothing else disturbed and no explanation for the broken glass. This set had cost over $600.00 and was used one season. Fortunately, this occurred during the early morning hours. No one was near the table the time and there were no injuries.

I purchased the dining table from Martha Stewart's patio collection approximately two years ago. This afternoon I walked onto my patio, turned around (thank goodness) and the large octagon table spontaneously shattered. I now have tiny glass shards stinging my hands along with covering every inch of my two decks. I also have a pool that is very close to were the table exploded. I won’t know if any shards got in the pool until I have it checked out. We usually have a yard full of family, but not today, thank goodness. It will cost me $200.00 to replace the table top (at least) and not with a Stewart exploding table, another $100 for an outdoor rug that was under the table which was shredded, plus what if my hand requires a doctor’s visit and if the pool sustained any damage?

I bought a Martha Stewart 5 pieces Wellington patio set, set it up with an umbrella and one morning found the table top broken into thousands of pieces on my deck. I contacted Home Depot who said that there was nothing that they could do. They referred me to BJI, the manufacturer. Talk about unhelpful. Both companies were more concerned about liabilities than the fact that the table is dangerous. Think twice before buying this table. I can't use the table which I bought for $400 and I'm still finding pieces of glass on my deck.
