Not only that, be sure and triple-check your preferences because they will change them to ok a substitute, plus add items to your order that you did not request and you won't know this until after your delivery!

I received melted ice cream from my delivery on May 3, 2024. I sent photos along with my complaint immediately after the delivery. They replied in minutes that they would not be refunding me or giving me a credit. I assume that they don’t require the driver to use insulated bags. The driver said that he had two other drop offs before me. Regardless, money was wasted. This is ridiculous, disgusting, and shameful. I have pictures of melted ice cream and the bag has melted ice cream in it.

When placing your order, you are given a total with everything, including tip. In the grey fine print, you are giving the total that will be held. I understand the prices are higher because I’m using the service. No problem. However, I expect the final amount that clears to be close to the amount I agree to when I place the order. The total amount shown on Instacart with tax, tip, etc was $165. Amount in fine print said $191 would be held and adjusted after delivery. However, $210 was held and final was $200. I called. I was told by the rep and the manager that it was because the store prices were higher than what is shown through Instacart. Therefore, I would not be issued a credit.
I went to the store app and placed the order directly through them and the total with tip was $140. So, what they said is untrue. I decided to keep digging. Every one of my orders is between $20-$40 over what I agree to when I place the order. I have read the fine grey print. Customer service was unable to explain why my actual final charge was $35 more than it said in the fine print. I noticed on other orders that I was charged $8.99 for several items that were only $3.99 at the store. Additionally, I was paying $9.99 monthly to not have a delivery fee, only to still be charged $6.25 service fee. I have wasted hundreds of dollars by not paying attention. Instacart lack integrity and accountability. Learn from me to not use them or pay very close attention to every single charge.

Instacart is a scam. I placed one order in March, and the shopper didn't find the item I really wanted, then why did they show it as in stock on their website?! Then I got charged $107.79 of membership fee in the middle of April. I found out the membership charge when I tried to pay the credit card bill at the end of April. When I called Instacart, I was told that I've passed the grace period, which is 5 days, for the charge to be reverted. I asked to speak to their supervisor, and after being put on a long hold, was told that their supervisor was not available. I told the representative that I have not placed another order, and I don't intend to use Instacart again, and I told him that this is a scam, but of course, it made no difference. I don't understand why they cannot at least refund me for the rest of the 11 months?! I'll follow up with my credit card company to dispute the charge. And if anyone knows how to report them as fraud, please let me know. Thank you!

As a Shopper, the pay is absolutely terrible, the fluctuation in pay is enormous unsteady and make things worse the customers do not tip well, and the base pay per order is incredibly low. Make things worse. If a customer decides to cancel an item money is taken from you in many cases up to half of your pay making the entire gig a bust. Costing the shopper money.

They have no idea where anyone is going to be shopping! That's why they have horrible reviews for out of stock issues. What did they save you if they deliver the ingredients to make chicken and YOU DON'T GET THE CHICKEN?! They just stole your dinner money.

A child was dispatched to collect my groceries. I was given a 1 hour window for delivery. The driver never showed and reported that he made his delivery. Ordered meat from Costco. Was charged $55 for meat and a service fee plus tip. Once order was delivered, I noticed in store price was only $25. That's $30 up charge on a single item. There is no transparency in pricing. I thought for $55, it would be a big package of meat. It wasn't, it was small. The app doesn't show in store price or how much upcharge is.

Don't use Instacart. Very terrible customer support. Charged for membership and although others got refunded I called after 5 days of this charge it was not possible that happens sometimes. What doesn't is being told a supervisor will speak to you and then they never call and when you call again, you (the customer) get yelled at, and asked "what is wrong with you" and "are you done". I know how bizarre that sounds, but I lived it and I used to work at a call center but I was baffled by how poorly I was treated. Also I could really use my 111 dollars from this company that is worth billions. Dear instacart, if part of your policy to make money means forcing your products and services on people who don't want them and can't afford them then you have a bad business model. My order kept declining so I decided to check my transactions on my debit and Apple Pay, Instacart was trying to charge 7.00 for 2.80. When I asked why I was told they authorize a slightly higher fee before delivery. Slightly higher would be $3.80 maybe even $4.00 but $7.00 no ma’am no sir I will NOT ever use them again. Searched Google for a specific item and was met with a result from Instacart saying it would be delivered in under an hour for a $4 processing fee and I added an additional $4 for a tip for the driver. I used PayPal to pay. I checked my bank and saw the authorization for the purchase had gone through and waited for the item to arrive. While waiting I decided to create an account which I did without signing up for a paid membership.
2 hours later no delivery had been made. I checked my email account linked to my PayPal account and there was no email for the transaction. I then checked PayPal and there was no record of the transaction. I checked my bank again and now there was a credit for the charge showing as if Instacart reversed the charge.
What a waste of my time! I am VERY happy I didn’t sign up for the membership. For those who have anything negative to say about Amazon…at least with them I don’t have to TIP the delivery driver and I get free streaming service to boot! I ordered items to be picked up at my local Publix on 03/06 but unfortunately I had to travel out of the State that same day for a family emergency (a near death scared). I was not in my head space to think about this order while everything transpired and I added requesting a refund with Instacart to my phone as a reminder. One of many things I added on my list of things I needed to handle when I got back home. Now I'm back home and although I understand it was a little over 30 days later, nowhere on their App does it say that I cannot get a refund after 7 days. At least I cannot find this info anywhere on the app. On top of giving their customers 7 days to request a refund, the service I received today when I called Instacart was horrible. I was told that I would need to call back every now and then because their Supervisors were taking calls and there was no ETA as to when one would be available.
We consumers spend hundreds and thousands of money with Instacart for them be treat us the way I was treated today over $43. There was no empathy or understanding during my call. Just a call answered by someone at Instacart who obviously didn't know what she was doing and lacked customer service skills. I've used this service for about a year. It was okay at first then started to go seriously downhill. I'm housebound due to illness so I can't shop for myself. I've been getting more and more frustrated with this service. Then today a delivery driver dropped off what was 100% just a bag of trash. Not what I ordered. It was containers of half-eaten food tied up in the bags from the store. I opened it and reached in to get my ordered, touched trash as I pulled it out and realized what it was. When I called to complain about this, Instacart told me "We can't control what our drivers deliver or do" and seem to intend to take no action, other than giving me a refund. Honestly, no one should be using this service if their whole policy is "we can't control what our drivers deliver." It is so, so, so slow, good luck. 3) It doesn't remember your previous replacements, sometimes replacements don't work, if you search for a replacement rather than use one of the replacements shown, you have to do it 2-3 times for it to take.
4) Sometimes the shoppers cannot see your replacements and bother you on and on about what to do because they are not seeing any of the replacements nor instructions. 5) Sometimes you can't give a review at all, the software just won't let you do it. 6) If you order cold meds it will say you can't it thinks you are under age of 18, I'm 66. It's errors and errors and errors and errors that Instacart will never see nor fix. Been like this for years.

InstaCart’s incompetent or dishonest shopper delivered only 3 of the 6 bags of my grocery order from Aldi on 4-12-2024. I was charged for all 20 items in my order but 7 items were missing — either left behind at the store, delivered to another customer, or stolen by the shopper. I called the senior help line and asked for these items to be redelivered. The CSR got approval from her manager to do so but when she went to process the re-delivery of the 7 items InstaCart’s system would NOT allow her to do so because my account is under review owing to me making too many complaints!!! SO I APPEALED THE DECISION AND INSTACART STILL REFUSES TO PROVIDE A REFUND OR REDELIVERY — AND PROVIDED NO EXPLANATION FOR THEIR DECISION. WHY DO THEY FEEL THEY CAN RIP ME OFF, A DISABLED SENIOR?
Really? I have never heard of such a thing! I am paying a heavy premium for InstaCart service and the shoppers are incompetent. Apparently there are an abundance of complaints here on BBB about InstaCart penalizing customers like this for their incompetent or dishonest shoppers. Make too many complaints??? I complained about three shoppers.
Shopper #1 in October 2023 put hate pamphlets in my Walgreen’s order owing to my religion. I should have called the police! Shopper #2 in March 2024 who delivered my Costco order complained multiple times in text messages that she was not making enough money on my order and it was too far of a drive. So I called to have her removed from my account. Shopper #3 in April 2024 did not deliver half of my order!
I think those are three extremely valid complaints! And I do not find that to be excessive on my part that my account should be placed in review. So I told the CSR since she could not deliver my order then to just refund my money for the items and she could not do that either. I spoke with a supervisor, too, all in all wasting 45-minutes of my time on the phone with them. And now to further waste my precious time filling out an appeal email form. So let me summarize. InstaCart shopper stole or failed to deliver half my order of much needed items and InstaCart refuses to redeliver the items or refund my money. That’s robbery.

On April 10th, I placed an order on Instacart as usual. After reaching the total page (image one) showing $56.18, I selected to pay via PayPal and was asked to add a tip due to rain (image 2). The percentages didn't make sense (30% would presumably be 30% of the total, but the amount given is $2.19). Not wanting to tip less than $2.19, I chose the third option. Upon completing my checkout on PayPal, the total was $76, which seemed high considering I had only seen $56 and $2.19 for the tip. I understand Instacart charges a higher amount as an "authorization charge." Despite trying to verify the amount, it consistently showed $76 with no other screen, so I assumed it was the authorization charge.
After placing the order, I immediately noticed the tip seemed high (also confirmed again in image 4). I contacted Customer Service via chat and was informed that I could not change the tip at this point and should contact after the order was delivered, despite the app indicating otherwise (image 3). On April 10th, I reached out again and was repeatedly told about the authorization charge (image 5). After speaking with six different agents, they finally understood that the tip was incorrectly shown on the app, resulting in me being charged more than expected. However, they did not take responsibility for the error and stated that they could not issue a refund or credit. Despite sending screenshots, they refused to adjust the tip. The reason I think the person actually works for Instacart is because when I refused to give her my credit card to supposedly buy a Costco membership, she instantly cancelled my order and I saw through Instacart that my order was cancelled. I ended up preparing this order 3 times, placing it twice and each time there were errors. I spent 2 and a half hours total with order placement, customer service canceling and correcting, and with 3 different representatives in which one especially was giving me the run around. The canceled order was because the system changed back to my home address as the delivery address, after I had filled in, verified with code through my phone and selected that address for the order.
The next order, after again being offered free standard shipping and selecting it, changed back to the default premium with a $12.99 delivery charge. So this and the other charges were more than the order item total. I immediately called back to cancel or correct the order and was given a huge hassle and runaround about canceling by the 2nd rep. Being wishy-washy and long winded about buried vague policy details unrelated to their system errors, correcting the problems they create and expediting the order reflective of the deceptive Insta part of the Instacart name. This part of the experience directly lead me to thinking what I was already suspecting... that this seeming "system glitch", was more of a profiteering trap aimed at millions of people who use the service. That much fudging of the click selected choices is by no accident or merely a system glitch, rather seeming intentional and by design.

They say members delivery hour or less. That has never happened. Give Delivery time. If not constantly checking app they could say 2 to 3 hours later. Then cancel. Because now too late for you to enjoy. Cost you because of their terrible policy 15 bucks.

I was trying to do a good deed and provide 5 young children Easter baskets. I live in Virginia and the children are in Memphis TN. I chose to buy items from Dollar Tree and have the items delivered by Instacart. HUGE MISTAKE. The shopper simply decided to not purchase 15 items. I had selected alternative items for each on in case they were not available but she chose to simply not buy them. She also left the bags out in the pouring rain when shelter was only two feet away. The bags were soaked!! I called Instacart customer service and explained what had happened. I spoke with a very nice girl who said that I could do another order and they would not charge me to deliver it. I was happy. I ordered the items again (from a different store).
When I went to check out there was another delivery service charge and of course a request for another tip. I called customer service again. This time I was told they would NOT waive the charge. I asked for a manager, they were in a meeting and unavailable. I was not offered a call back, nothing. Because I did not want young children disappointed on Easter morning I had to reorder and pay for the privilege. You have a choice. DO NOT USE INSTACART!!

Instacart must check for errors within the app that shoppers use when grocery shopping for customers. I expected a delivery nearly five hours ago. The buyer never included that she had checked out, instead my app said she was shopping for multiple clients. This is understandable if I see that you've checked out and are delivering items to multiple customers. However, it appeared as though my four little items never made it to the check out counter and that the person remained at Mariano's for about four or five hours which is ridiculous no matter how massive the order is.
I think there's a way for shoppers to start pickups but to never be held accountable for completing the order. I went from being able to message the shopper, Venessa, to not being able to message the shopper at all. I wasn't able to get in touch with anyone at Instacart through phone. The phone rang endlessly. I used the chat box and I was transferred to a live agent and no one actually appeared in the chat. I'm on a strict diet and budget. I was so hungry. I placed this order around 3 or 4pm. I have just now been assigned a new shopper and my order is coming at around 11pm.

I have discontinued in the cart several times of the last 45 years. Around 4 years and gone with other delivery companies for grocery store accounts. And for one reason to come back to Instacart. But in the recent couple of years, it has really gone bad. I understand that people come into our country. And don't understand things as we operate. By such as food items, maintaining a proper temp, proper dress code so forth and so on. As far as being a professional person who shops and delivers your food instructor doesn't match this criteria anymore. I've had food to come between steaks. Milk cheese frozen products. The same ambient temperature is outside. I've even had food come before. That was hot to the touch bag of frozen fish. Couldn't eat it. I've eaten it before getting sick called and complained.
And there's always something that they want to credit your account. So you have to use them again to get compensation for them. Screwing up, no, thank you. I'm done with you Instacart. I guess I just can't believe your arrogance. Don't take care I hope you're right now. No more of my money. I could not get through on the phone at all. Just continuously hung up on. I called about 20 times. When I finally got a hold of someone via chat they were not helpful at all. Almost seemed sarcastic. The first rep told me they would refund me everything but the service fee. I was disconnected. Then the 7 other reps and managers I chatted with basically told me there was nothing I could do and no one to talk to about it and gave a good day. I was so taken back by the total lack of empathy. I kept being disconnected from the chat. I continued to reach to out. To eventually be ignored by the chat customer care.
I eventually called Costco themselves. They immediately tried to help. When I told her I couldn’t get through via phone. The Costco rep called for me then patched me through. The Instacart rep gave me a complaint form that none of the 10 people or so spoke to offered. This form will be sent to the billing department. They might do a one time courtesy. I have to wait and see. That complaint form isn’t even for sure. I felt like I was dealing with some small time company pulling some really shifty things. I understand the policy but the customer service provided for a loyal customer in a serious situation was pitiful. To say the least. If I were in the store this would not have been a problem. I have been a client with Instacart since 2019. I have agreed to pay their exorbitant service fees and inflated prices, as long as I received my groceries in the window of time that I select. I am a very busy working mom - I very much rely on services like InstaCart and frequently plan my day around their delivery window. Today my order was received 2+ hours AFTER the delivery window and when I contacted their customer service to find out if there was an issue with the shopper, etc., to understand why the shopper had only shopped for just 10 items (out of 30) one hour AFTER the final delivery window - I was placated that they "understood my frustrations", was not given any reasons for the delay and extended a measly $5 credit on my next order.
I was relying on the food in this order to prepare dinner for my family. I planned my meetings and errands around this delivery window - and again, as a working mom, I need services like InstaCart to be reliable. Today I cancelled my membership and will recommend others to consider other organizations that provide grocery delivery service. I don't need to pay higher prices for grocery items and then extreme monthly membership fees and crazy service fees every time I place an order to not receive my orders in a timely fashion, and as planned. I can understand a slight delay - but 2 hours and 15 minutes after the delivery window had closed??!! Come on.. Then she proceeded to hang up in my face. I then received a email saying that I will receive a cancellation fee so I called the support line.
I spoke with a representative name Sheila who I explained my issue too and she was no help at all. She placed me on hold a few different times for a long period of time, she even had me on a silent hold for like 5 mins another time. When I opened my Instacart app this evening, with the intention of reviewing the actual service itself, I noticed that there didn’t appear to be a mechanism in place to perform such an action. Only to review the individual shopper’s performances. Nevertheless, I googled reviews for Instacart and here I am. I’d like to begin with this: My wife and I have proudly enjoyed Instacart’s services both in our home in NYC as well as California for as long as the service has been known to us. At first we used the service as a practical matter of convenience.
But after a while, it became a necessity when I could no longer shop. As a practical matter, it would be impossible to say that each and every time we used Instacart that we experienced perfect service. Human nature being what it is, nothing is ever perfect. And it would be the height of folly to say that Instacart alone was the cause of any dissatisfaction with the service since our interactions on the app are the catalyst for any outcome. However, unlike many of the other reviewers on this forum, nearly all of our experiences were largely positive. Indeed I was quite surprised to see so many negative reviews about various aspects of Instacart’s services while our experiences were mostly positive.
To be perfectly honest, from time to time we experienced some issues. However, out of hundreds of orders we’d placed over a period of years, that was to be expected. And it seemed to us that most of Instacart’s hardworking and amazing shoppers did their level best to get our orders right; deliver the goods in a timely manner; and packaged in such a way that we could easily put things away.
On occasion, however a few deliveries were delayed. Some of the shoppers felt compelled to switch items for something similar because we neglected to make our own alternative selections and we did not make ourselves available for any questions or concerns our shoppers might have had regarding these orders. I can honestly say that we had a grand total of 3 items over the span of many years that didn’t meet what we’ve always believed to be the high standards of quality Instacart invariably provided. So it’s very easy for us to say that we were pleased 99.9% of the time with our Instacart orders and outcomes.
While the Instacart shoppers truly lend themselves to the notion that the customer comes first, we also found them to have been exceedingly polite and sufficiently and realistically attentive with our orders. The shoppers no doubt experience obstacles they must overcome in order to achieve their 5-star ratings and to live up to our standards and expectations. So here’s the most important factors that haven’t always met our expectations and served to create the situations by which the shoppers fell short of our expectations.
1. What is listed as available while making your product selections is not in actuality the case. I’ve seen comments under product descriptions that say “many in stock” when in fact that isn’t always true.2. On occasion, the shopper selects a product that is less than a quality product. Items that are damaged or on the far side of fresh. But in those instances, I can’t help but think that this might be the result of an over zealous shopper wishing to meet the customer’s demands.
3. Listed prices within the app weren’t always correct. So my receipt was different from the price I thought I was meant to pay.
4. The products are consistently higher in price than the prices at the location. But then that makes perfect sense because I understand that I’m paying for the privilege of a delivery.
Having said that, I can attest to the fact that Instacart innovators, quality control specialists and their leadership work together to provide a seamless service for us. At least that’s been our experience. We will continue to happily support Instacart and their hard working personnel and partners. Because life without Instacart would be untenable. Thank you for the opportunity to review.

First let’s talk about the fact that you pay a monthly membership fee to have your groceries delivered. Regardless you still have to place a minimum order. You also have to leave a tip. I leave tips but being forced to do so to check out makes me not want to at all. Now let’s talk about the ridiculous price increase for everything! I will give examples comparing it to another grocery delivery service (not sure if I can mention the name):
Rebel keto ice cream: Instacart price $9.00, Other service $4.89.
I could go on and on. The prices are outrageous. So is the customer service. I used to be a member because I had no choice. There were no grocery delivery services to choose from. Once there were I promptly cancelled my membership. Unfortunately Publix Pharmacy now uses Instacart to deliver my prescriptions. The delivery charge is $10.99 + mandatory tip. I could choose in addition to already paying $50 for my prescriptions to get $35 worth of overpriced groceries then the $10.99 fee is free. Gee…thanks. In any event I placed and paid for prescription order and realized I needed one more item. I contact customer service through chat last night.
Despite the directions in help that I said I could add items until my shopper started shopping, there was no option to do so. Chat person gets online and says, “Oh. Sorry. No, you have to wait until your shopper is in the store shopping your items. Directly ask the shopper through chat and they can add the item.” I confirmed this several times. I informed them that I was getting prescriptions and not groceries and would that be an issue if I added the one grocery item I needed? Nope, I’m told. Not a problem, just wait until tomorrow. So tomorrow comes. The shopper is shopping. I click to chat directly with the shopper and tell her I need to add one item. She replies “If you can add it from your account”. I explain everything from paragraph above and tell her I can’t order it and they said she would. I told her I would try again. Then tried and told her it didn’t work for me. She simply said, “ok”.
So I’m now on chat with instacart and the chat bot says “you can ask your shopper to add item by chat”. I said “No I can’t! It doesn’t work and she won’t!”. They said, “Maybe it’s a technical issue. You should contact our customer service”. No, you don’t say? Contact customer service? Why didn’t I think of that?! So it then says it’s transferring me to a customer service specialist. So I wait and wait and wait some more. No one connects to chat. But in that time of me waiting I get a text informing me that the shopper is done and my order is on the way. Thanks instacart, you’re the best. ::insert sarcasm::

I checked the app an hour later, and see the order status listed as cancelled - no text, no notification.
I placed a third order the next day (again, to use up that credit and be done with them) and the shopper failed to deliver several of my items - but dropped off a bunch of things I hadn’t ordered (and didn’t want). Holy moly, remind me to read the reviews next time. The majority of the reviews here are one star reviews. That should say everything you need to know about this business. Do not use Instacart. Not only are you way overpaying for groceries, you’re only increasing your chances of getting scammed out of your money. I moved to a new area, and I tried using Instacart to deliver my groceries, since I don’t have a vehicle, or any form of transportation at the moment.
Uber and Lyft is starting to cost too much, rental cars cost too much, and walking is a pretty significant distance, so walking back with a bunch of groceries in my hand isn’t really what I want to do. I’ve done it before, and it sucks. So, the next best thing is delivery. Or so you would think. I already knew that there were going to be fees associated with food delivery, which I’m not a huge fan of. But, since this isn’t going to be a common occurrence, I made an exception. So I spend a good while filling up items in my cart. Making sure I don’t overspend and then I get exactly what I need.
Once I was done adding items to my cart, I went through checkout. I honestly did very well at keeping the cost down pretty low. After all the fees and the tip were added, it was definitely more expensive than what I would have liked. But, again, I kind of expected that. Since this isn’t going to be a common occurrence, I decided to go through check out anyway.
After going through check out, I was taken to the login page. So, I wasn’t sure if my order had been placed and that was very strange to me. I kept trying to login over and over, in many different ways. I cannot login. I kept getting error messages. So I decide to check my email. Sure enough, the order did go through. But, Instacart immediately canceled my order. Pretty much as soon as I placed it, they canceled it. I wasn’t exactly sure why, so I try to order again. I had no luck, since I couldn’t login. Then I got another email. The email said that they detected fraud on my account. Which, is interesting, because I signed up for an account a while back, but I never used it. So this email says I need to provide my driver's license ID and my debit/credit card information. Of course they told me to take off all the important information.
I’m usually very good about not giving into this kind of thing. I don’t trust that. They are trying to scam me. Nonetheless, I went through it anyway. Again, I took off all the important information, but I still wasn’t very comfortable sending it to them in the first place. I feel like it was way too excessive. After I send them my information, I receive a notification that I will be responded to you in the next 48 hours. That’s ridiculous. I’m trying to get groceries today, was able to go through check out, Instacart decided to cancel it, and now I I have to wait 48 hours to see if I can place an order? That’s beyond ridiculous. Not to mention, not very smart on their end. I’ve been reading these reviews, and Instacart does not have many fans.
In fact, it seems they are scamming a lot of people, or they just don’t care that their customers are being scammed by those that are working for them. Either way, they’re not doing so well. At least, they could be doing a lot better. It seems they’re making their profits off of people whose more than willing to spend a lot of money, and by scamming others into purchasing a membership, among other things. They also don’t seem to care, that their workers have a tendency to steal from the customers. The fact that they don’t really show that they care says a lot about them.
I’m not saying they’re not a legitimate business. But their practices are questionable. You would think, they would want to keep customers happy, but I digress. You would think, they would allow me to make a grocery purchase. But, they like to claim fraud, even if you haven’t made an actual purchase yet. Which, I see that’s been a common issue with a lot of people. So it’s not just me. How can you claim there is fraud, when the person who is trying to check out has never checked out before? How can you say someone is trying to use a coupon, that they’ve never used before, as it was a link that was sent to them, how does that make any sense?
Long story short, don’t use Instacart. Honestly, don’t use any apps like it. It’s the easiest way to get scammed nowadays. Even if you aren’t getting scammed, they’re charging you way too much. It’s honestly not worth it. Then you have ungrateful people, that expect you to tip them an insane amount of money just for picking up and delivering your groceries. It’s not worth it. Either do one or two things. Pick up your own groceries if you can, if not utilize the actual grocery stores. At least you can trust to get your stuff from them. Or, ask someone in your family or a friend to help you out. Give them a little bit of money for doing it.
These businesses are a huge rip off, and although they may not be scams, they can still scam you one way or another. I wasted an entire day and even part of an evening, trying to get this all situated and figured out. It was a complete waste of time. I ended up going through Walmart at the last minute, and it went through with no issues.

Mind you, it is nighttime and they had long dropped off my order almost an hour before he came back to my door. Also, you can look on the picture that HE TOOK and see that there were only my bags because most stores have distinctive bags. KROGER DELIVERY/NSTACART SCAM!: READ TO THE END Y'ALL. This review is not a reflection of Kroger, this review is for the 3rd party service they use to deliver your order, which is Instacart. I'm only posting this review here to warn people who are thinking about getting their groceries delivered! Yesterday I ordered a few items through Kroger to delivered, it was only like 8 small items...5 small packets of fish fry, 2 packs of Kool-Aid and 1 packet of some turkey pinwheels lol. The order was only $30.57 after taxes and etc. So the 1st red flag was it took FOREVERRR for the Instacart shopper to shop for these few items. The shopper was in the store for almost an hour!
After they finally got here, they took a picture of the one tiny Kroger grocery bag that they left on my porch and sent it to me like the always do. Okay so I wake up the next morning and saw that my order of $30.57 turned into over $118. Lmao! I went to my email and saw that items I did not even purchase was added to my order at my expense. I contacted Kroger and they refunded me my money (Thank you Kroger!). After I did some research, apparently this is not a new scam that Instashoppers pull and I am not the only one who has gone through this. Now I know why the shopper took so long in the store, they were shopping for their selves at my expense. The shopper name was Termilder **.

I have to say the app is very convenient in terms of having someone shop for you and bring you your stuff. I am quite shocked at the markup of every single item. It increases the cost of my cart by lots. In addition to the increased prices of every single item, you pay a service fee, taxes and tip. Let’s not forget the membership fees. This app is a money pit for consumers. When you add up how much you are paying extra for your items, plus tip and service fees for each cart you have delivered, I began to feel like a fool not doing my own grocery shopping. Sure, during Covid, it proved helpful. Now it’s just a money drain all because I don’t want to go do my grocery shopping? Same goes for other apps as well that deliver from restaurants.
But, I have stopped using the app as much. In a pinch I’ll use, but I will no longer use it for grocery shopping regularly any longer. I’ve been going back to the store and that is what convinced me not to use the app any longer. The price difference is offensive. Especially the more expensive an item is, like for meats. I just came from Costco and saw I had paid $3 more for my collagen powder and when they are on sale, I buy 2 or 3. But by going through the app, it cost me $9 additional dollars for 3. Now we are talking about a markup on EVERY single item and the collagen is a $34 through app, $31 at the store.
I calculated how much I saved by going to Costco (or wherever) and I could have saved $20 today by going to Costco myself. That doesn’t include Tip, taxes and service fees that are added at checkout. This might make Instacart billionaires (and, of course it does), but we, the consumer are paying a hefty price for convenience. I’m going back to the stores again and it feels just fine. This app is not a necessity. It is an indulgence if you are able to shop for yourself.

I am concerned regarding the pricing discrepancies I have encountered with my recent orders at Instacart. It has come to my attention that the total amount charged by Instacart online exceeds the actual receipt total from the store. When I reviewed the receipt, it discloses the merchandise price and sales tax for a total. Instacart then charges a delivery fee, which is expected, and then you have the ability to insert a tip for the shopper. This is how it should work: within their terms, they are not the retailer, and prices are subject to change by the retailer. They use shopper-assigned cards when making purchases to reflect variable-priced items such as produce. This leads me to believe the final price is the price, not the posted price, as those change daily.
My problem with this is that it exposes that Instacart is not only not disclosing the actual price, but they are collecting excess sales tax and gauging tip calculations on the online price instead of the store receipt, which is illegal. You cannot upcharge individuals by saying you are paying tax and then pocketing the difference. I have forwarded all the documentation, as well as the chats with their customer support, to the Department of Consumer Affairs in the State of GA. I am sure they will have something to say about this. Lastly, Check the receipts against the charges if you see this service.

I am assuming they are hoping we are stupid and still didn't realize that they stole 50 dollars.. so when I go back months I notice mine and my husband's card being charged same day for same orders.

It made no difference. 5) I spend the next 2 hours of my life chatting/speaking with 4 different outsourced employees who all refused to cancel and refund the membership fee. 6) I have had to place this in dispute with PayPal and will have to wait for resolution. Had I known they were this bad, I would have stayed with Shipt. 7) Argumentative reps, long-winded reps, do not want to resolve issues, they only want to explain policies and why their hands are tied. There is NO customer service.
8) The website is impossibly slow and freezes multiple times during a single shopping experience, yet the service fees are supposed to cover platform costs. 9) The items you shop for are priced much higher than in store. 10) The items are often out of stock/hard to find and you do not receive them, but you still are charged for the tip and associated fees. 11) I just had a terrible experience with this company and I'm not sure how they stay afloat. In contrast, Shipt and Uber IMMEDIATELY resolve issues and refund you. This is a horrible company. Please don't join Instacart or you will feel the same way.
12) The service fees vary from retailer to retailer. Example: a $35 order from Dollar Store yielded a $16 service fee! PLUS TIPS AND TAX. And a $22 Target order cost only $3.99 in service fees. The logic makes no sense. The fees are not advised of until you place your order, so you have no way of knowing if it's even worth your time to fill your cart with merchandise. I am not in a position to withstand variable fees like this.

They informed me that I was enrolled into their yearly subscription and that since I had already placed an order they could/ would not refund me my $99.
While going through the process of placing my order, I was asked if I wanted to add a family member to have access to my account for free. At the time, I was confused as I didn't have a membership for anyone to join but I selected yes thinking that my daughter would be able to use my account if she wanted to. I had no idea that upon doing so, I was adding her to a yearly membership. My yearly membership as it turned out. I did not go through a proper registration and payment process. Instacart receipts are not valid in stores for returns. Every time I've had to try to return something the stores that they work with don't take instacart orders as valid receipts. Some stores won't refund you at all and some stores will do a non receipt purchase at the lowest current price of the item. You lose money more than you saved by the "convenience" of their service. And of course, you don't get refunded for any of their service fees.
They use a marketing system that is a scam. Promising you money saved, hours shopping saved, fees waived for higher subscriptions but not really because they still pile on some fees on you. I have lost much more money than I have saved as they promised because of the lack of transparency of their return policy. Hello, for some background I am Platinum cart with about 120 orders, a 4.95 rating and have never had a problem with Instacart orders. Yesterday, I was on my third batch of the day, it was a single order with about 20 items. The total came out to $201.04, I was on the screen where it tells me to pay with Apple Pay, as I scanned my card I waited for the cashier to give me my receipt and she told me it was declined and to try again. So I did, because what else was I supposed to do. Again, declined, with a line of shoppers behind me I tried one more time to no prevail. Since I had my girlfriend with me helping me shop and she was a manager at the store I was shopping at (Wegmans) she knew just to pause the order so we could go over to the customer support area while I contacted Instacart support.
At first when I was in the chat with IC support it wasn't very helpful so I chose the call option. I talked with the nice woman for a minute or two about what was happening. She could see from her end how much the order was and asked if I had added anything the order that I wasn't supposed to, I didn't. The only thing that I replaced was 12 oz of brussel sprouts for a 24 oz family pack since the customer wanted a replacement and that was the closest option. The IC support woman said that the purchase was "too much money" so it was declining. However, I didn't want to delay the matter any further because the order was due and there was a pretty good tip that I didn't want to be decreased because of this, so the IC support woman added exactly $201.04 to my card balance and the purchase went through.
I brought everything to my car and started going to the house for the drop off, when all of a sudden my IC app suddenly shut down, saying that the account was deactivated and was under review. The order was completely voided and all money was lost. However, I still did the right thing and delivered the groceries to the customer who was nice enough to give me a big cash tip for my troubles.
Anyways, my account was deactivated, this had never happened before so I checked my email. There was an email from Instacart Trust and Safety. The email repeated that I breached the Independent Contractor Agreement by misusing the Instacart payment card. To dispute this, please respond to this email with any evidence to support your claim. So I wrote an extensive email to this email with pictures of the receipt and everything that had happened, and I was met with this email: "Thank you for your response. We flagged your payment card due to misappropriated funds for the following transaction: APPROVED | credit | December 18th 2023 3:41pm CST | WEGMANS WILMINGTON #11 | $201.04. If you disagree with this decision, please submit receipts for the orders outlined above. If you no longer have these receipts, retailers can often reprint receipts as long as you present your original payment card."
After reading this email, of course I resent the receipts and 30 minutes later I received another email. "We received your request to reconsider deactivating your shopper account. After reviewing both your account and the available information, Instacart determined that you breached your Independent Contractor Agreement.
Your account remains inactive, and you can no longer provide services on the Instacart platform.
We may not respond to further emails about this issue. Thank you for your service. Best, Instacart, Financial Risk Team."
I was completely shocked, I didn't know what to do so I sent another email shortly after that response and a day later still no response. Does anyone know what I can do or am I screwed by their own card declining? Thanks.

Why would this company even give individuals the option to add items! SHAMEFUL! So glad I did not sign up for the membership.

I order groceries for another senior as she does not have email or internet access. Today I ordered groceries for her and must have accidentally clicked on the annual subscription. I was not aware I did this until an hour later when I got an email telling me I had signed up. I panicked as I use her credit card and I knew she would be charged for this, a cost she couldn't afford. She is 78 and a widow. I called customer support and then their senior help line, neither of whom helped at all. They said because it was system-generated they couldn't cancel. I said, please just charge the delivery charge for the morning's order and cancel the membership. They refused. Now I have to sent my friend the $99 as it wasn't her fault. I too am a senior on limited income and this really hurts. I never encountered such a disreputable company before.

Instacart purposely overcharges customers. Several items on the app were actually cheaper in store. One item the shopper purchased was a reduced item which had the price on top of the bag. The beef I purchased also had the price listed on the package. Which was two dollars cheaper than what was listed on the app. Instead of Instacart, crediting customers the difference after checkout they keep the money on the products they’ve intentionally marked up. So not only do they charge for delivery, a service fee, and tip. They secretly increase the prices of the items to collect additional fees. I wrote to their customer service, and their explanation was terrible stating all special offers are not available via the app. Which makes absolutely no sense! At the end of the day the shopper/Instacart paid less for the item that I paid for yet I’m still paying full price.

Buyer Beware! Instacart is a total scam! They con me into a yearly membership of $99 by offering very low prices on my first order. Since they suckered me in after that first order 4 out of the next 5 orders had to either be canceled or I had to get a discount from them for screwing it up. I go to cancel the membership after only 45 days of having it and they say it is non-refundable! They keep the whole $99.00. They make it impossible to cancel orders on the website. When you go to the instructions that I have attached step 4 says click manage order. There is no such option on that page at all!
They send the same low cost ads out only to bait and switch you into buying a different item. And of course, it's impossible to get a human being on the phone. In this particular order I have attached the chat with the shopper. She was excellent and actually communicated with me. The other 4 didn't. Even after she refunds my money and cancels the order I go to my account dashboard and they are offering the exact same thing for $5.99 a pound even though it is not in stock.

My worst experience is when I ordered groceries for 40$ and shopper added more items without my consent, bumping up my grocery bill to 100$ and never delivered it. I immediately contacted their customer service and even they couldn't connect with the shopper claiming the shopper was not reachable. When I requested for redelivery, credit or refund from orders appeal, they denied my request although the proof was provided by their customer service department and myself that the shopper stole groceries.

Then got a text stating not all items so was also charged another fee. Bottom line double charging customers and not refunding for them canceling orders, then not all items available after picking substitutions. Not happy with this practice of business as I work in customer service. Called them twice over this. Nothing done and no refund. Not acceptable as the previous week they had NO trouble finding my address for deliveries. No respect for the consumer. Will use other delivery services in the future. I placed an order through Instacart today and when it asked if I wanted to join Instacart + I agreed. I wanted the monthly subscription but was charged the annual fee. I immediately started a chat and told the rep that I want a refund for the difference. Syeda said that I needed to cancel the membership and even provided details of how to cancel it. I verified that I would automatically be refunded and she said yes.
After cancelling I noticed it said I still had plus until December 9th, 2024. I also noticed I didn't receive an email stating I had cancelled or that the refund was being processed. So I asked her how long I need to wait to see the refund as their refunds are usually instant for me (when they don't have an item, when they're refunding the authorized amount prior to charging the actual bill amount etc.). Syeda advised I wait 5 to 10 days for the refund. I told her I need proof now and that I need my money back asap. We then spent about 20 minutes going back and forth with Syeda constantly repeating that the refund was processed and that the delay is due to my bank. She then tried to get rid of me by asking me to contact my bank instead of her and she even became rude.
I asked for a manager and, of course, there were none available. After about another 10 or so minutes of me repeating that I want a manager, she then told me I'm not eligible for a refund. Again, this is after telling me to cancel & 20 minutes of telling me the refund had been processed and that it's my bank causing the delay. Instacart is a horrible company that upcharges everything, takes more than they're supposed to and then, just to further screw you over, won't refund you even when their employees tell you incorrect information and blame the banks for a refund being delayed. I don't understand how they're still in business. As a single Mom, this has truly screwed me over and I will try my best to make this situation known everywhere possible. I've been a loyal Instacart customer for over 5 years. On 11/30/34 My shopper engaged in arrogant, belligerent behavior against me, calling me names such as "cheap" and "lazy." I use Instacart because I'm hooked up to oxygen at home and cannot shop on my own. The shopper, Warren, in this case performed the most ridiculous and rude treatment that I have ever received from a service provider within my entire life. I only gave two replies, one of which I explained I'm on home oxygen and cannot shop, and that did not phase Warren who continued with rude, name-calling and belligerent behavior.
I made a complaint to Instacart customer service, and considered it a resolved issue. But to my shock, I received an email from Instacart Support accusing me of using vulgar or offensive language with a shopper and included a threat to shut off my service if it ever happens again. I was appalled! The shopper was the aggressor who wrote severe insults and name-calling to me, even after I said I was hooked up to home oxygen and cannot shop on my own. I was, in fact, the one who walked away from the abusive conversation directed at me and complained to customer service. I thought the issue was resolved, but rather got a threatening email at 3 am 12/1/23 saying I used abusive language with the Shopper, and my account would be terminated when it happened again.
I was utterly appalled by this behavior, when Instacart's shopper was the aggressor! I called customer service AGAIN to voice my unhappiness with such treatment, and replied to the customer service email I received as well, at the direction of Instacart customer service. This behavior is simply unacceptable and abusive beyond words especially for a long time customer. Customer service escalated the issue, and told me to reply to the threatening email as well, and to include all of the facts that led to this point.
Below is my response to the threatening email, for reference: This was a part of a much larger conversation between the shopper (Walter) and I, where he became very belligerent and offensive, calling me "cheap" and "lazy." I did not not use any real profanity, but a silly word that I even say with friends. There was absolutely no aggression from my part, and I was merely defending myself after being called such terrible things by the driver.
Honestly, I'm appalled that I received this threatening email from Instacart after I was clearly the one being attacked, as merely defended myself, I also revealing to the driver that I'm on home oxygen and cannot go to the store. Water continued to attack me, and I walked away. Ronnie said they that it is being escalated to the Shopper Department.
After being a regular shopper for about 6 yrs or so with Instacart, I'm appalled that Instacart decided to send me a threatening msg, when the driver was clearly the aggressor. How else could anyone respond to such vile comments from Walter? This email has honestly sent me searching for an instacart replacement. I'm certain I would never be abusive to any drivers for no reason, and this was a surprising, ultra rare occurrence, since it has not happened at all for so many years.
In short, I find this email absolutely appalling, considering I was defending myself against an extraordinarily arrogant, belligerent shopper (Walter). I'm already seeking replacements for Instacart because of this email. I don't know how we can go on from here, honestly. Nothing short of a sincere apology from Instacart and perhaps a statement that you merely didn't know the other offensive language. Again, to reiterate, Instacart's action here, of threatening me is simply bad business and not acceptable. I would love to continue to use Instacart, because this was such a one off event. But getting this meal has lead me to seek other services elsewhere. I hope we can mend this relationship so that becomes unnecessary, but based on what was said by you, I'm not optimistic.

I have used the same-day delivery service from Costco a few times before with amazing success. Since the order was delivered to my neighbor once before, I made sure to add delivery instructions as to which street to come in off of, as well as the code drivers should dial at the gate so I am able to let them into the apartment complex (an issue I have - and resolve - with almost all delivery drivers). My order was scheduled to arrive around 11am and at 11:12am I received an email saying "since you weren’t available to receive your order during the time period you selected, you incurred a $15 late cancellation fee".
I tried clicking the "Instacart Customer Help Center" link in the cancellation email but was prompted to add my phone number to the Shopper Sign in" page. I then went back and clicked the "Visit the Instacart Help Center" in the footer of the email and was prompted that I needed to reset my password to access the page. After clicking the "send a reset password" link, I received an email with a link to "Request new link" within seconds. After clicking the link, I was immediately lead to a page that read "Sorry, the password reset link you clicked on has expired."
So, I decided to Google and call the customer service phone number and was thrilled when I received an in-person response within a few rings. I explained the sequence of events to the kind woman and was informed I "need to check my notification settings" as it appeared to her that the driver tried to contact me - to no avail. I explained the notifications should have no bearing on being able to see messages. The representative didn't seem to fully understand the two different functions and then had some confusion as to whether the driver may have tried to contact me via text, phone call, Instacart app, or the Costco app. After further explaining that I had no missed calls, text or messages or messages in either app, I explained I needed some proof the drive tried to contact me. I was then informed that since the driver cancelled the order, the messages would no longer be available.
Frustrated, I wanted to make sure I heard her accurately so I reiterated to "Too-lah" the process is the driver can cancel the order, denote that they tried to contact the buyer and then all said messages trying to contact buyer are then deleted - leaving the buyer no way to see what messages were reportedly sent and ignored allowing for a $15.90 fee to the buyer - for not being "available to receive [their] order during the time period [they] selected". I asked to be sent something in writing where this deletion of missed communication process is explained to buyers and informed this was not possible. I then asked to speak to a manager and was put on hold for over 10 minutes until the call was terminated. This does not seem like an ethical business practice.

Not only that, after providing them a phone number, they make no good faith effort to call for help. They are lazy and do not seem to want to work. Half the time, items are missing and you receive some of another person's order.
Their prices and fees are exorbitant, and their follow-up and customer service are poor. How they scam customers into paying for annual. They recently replaced the weekly membership button during checkout with annual membership, using the same button same wordings. Once you’re tricked into paying for the annual upon checking your bank statement & call phone support help, they will repeatedly recite the policy that ‘once you make a purchase with the membership it cannot be refunded’. They intentionally set it up this way to avoid giving a refund. If you look at their reviews on Apple Store this happens to others as well.
I’m 100% certain their plan is to trick everyone into paying for annual, then with the said policy forces them into using annual membership. They count on only a few people would fight it, & they actually remove weekly option during checkout. It’s only available under profile tab now. The only channels that could help was Instagram direct message or Facebook Messenger. Even then you’d have to message both places since they offer different solutions. Phone & live chat in-app will tell you no one could help, while through Instagram it was fixed within 10 mins.
2. They charge more even though it says in-store prices. The reason why I’m here is today I saw on my paper receipt that says $247 WITH TAX, while in-app I got charged $285 BEFORE TAX. After tax it’s around $320. Plus other fees & tips I paid $350. So I paid $103 more than what the store charges. :)
3. Dealing with their phone support or live chat in-app support will make you wanna cry. They seem to be trained the same way, ignoring what’s actually said/happening & repeating the irrelevant policies that have nothing to do with the issue at hand. Their goal is to make you repeat yourself to the point where you’ll wear out and give up. It’s actually disgusting knowing this because I think about the seniors that need this service & get scammed & insanely robotic customer service when they would need it. I’m attaching screenshot of how their live chat support is. They behave this same way on phone. Just circling you around and are not shy to show that they don’t care. I genuinely feel like their competition sends them to work here to make sure customers would leave.
4. I checked out Uber delivery. I never used them because they charged roughly $20 more than Instacart. Upon checking again today it’s only $8-$10 more, if use once a month that’s around $120 per year, roughly the same as Instacart’s annual membership.
I’m switching to Uber groceries after this, because the stores on there would have promos & discounts - whereas on Instacart the same store you get none. (Right now Petsmart on Uber offers 30% off, Instacart does not, that’s why I got charged extra, I guess.) :) I’m also switching because of Uber’s service. I remember calling about a receipt once & they made sure to call me back multiple times to ensure I understood where it came from. Their customer service people are actually sweethearts. I will never take them for granted again.

I'm beyond disappointment with Instacart. Not only do they provide horrible service; they manipulate their customers in believing they are fast, caring, and responsive when it comes to correcting errors. The truth is they make customers pay double for mistakes their workers make. Instacart charges an annual $99 to join. This is for unlimited deliveries, AND the deliveries must be over $35. This is the 1st red flag because they still turn around and add additional service, tax, tips, and whatever fees during checkout. In one year (depending on how often someone shops) they could easily pay another annual fee of $99 through small service fees that add up.
And if that's not enough to get your blood boiling let's discuss how they resolve mistakes made due to their shoppers not following instructions. They either deliver the wrong item or lie and say the item isn't available. Either way Instacart doesn't allow the shopper to bring the item back to the customer, which sucks if you have a very important dinner to prepare. Nope, they'll apologize and suggest a credit/refund, which initially sounds fair until you realize they're adding another set of fees, taxes, and recommended tip everytime an order is placed. The credit isn't a credit at all. It's a complete joke and rip off. The bottom line; companies like Instacart shouldn't be allowed to manipulate or take advantage of the less fortunate or elderly who depend on these services to assist them. Grow a heart Instacart. Everything doesn't have to turn into greed.

Have wasted half a day and no groceries. The supervisor had several calls ahead of me. Don’t have to guess why!

Consistently get wrong items, have missing items-paid for. Or entirely wrong orders, which is a minimum of 2 screwups when it happens to me. Sorry to the person who needed berries and bananas for the kiddos. Sorry you got my salad and wrap and ginger ale. Took 30 min and 5-not kidding-5 CSRs to 1 refund the order (BARE MINIMUM from a legal standpoint - takes up to 10 days.) Then they offered me 5$ in credit, for the inconvenience. As if I'm going to keep using a service that can't be bothered to get it right or make it right.
No one should need a csr to cancel a membership. That's predatory IDC if it's legal. I cancelled my Instacart service tonight. The saying is really true, if you want it done right, do it yourself. I however rely on delivery since I do not drive. I can't imagine the insanity this must bring to homes with even more severe issues being managed and then to get the worng stuff. Some may not even be able to re order as they depended on that money that's now in the system for 10- days. But hey-- "They're sorry and this was not their aim." Their aim is off.

Good evening, Up until today, I have used Instacart for grocery delivery on occasion. I have had an account with them for over a year now and have never had a problem. Tonight, I placed an order for Sprouts delivery. When I clicked purchase, my order was cancelled and my card charged a fee of more than what the order was for. The total purchase was for a little over $25.00 including the tip and service charge because I only ordered 3 things but the charge on my card was for $31.00. When I called the customer service they informed me that they felt that this order was suspicious activity.
When I asked what they meant, they could not explain that to me. Suspicious activity?? All I did was place an order like I have many times in the past. They also told me that I will not get my money back for 5 to 7 business days. They also said the only way I am going to get my account back is if I upload my driver's license to their website. I don't think so. This is suspicious. I did nothing out of the ordinary. Same password and the same card I use all the time. I believe the customer service is in another country like many other customer services for other businesses. I called my bank and they said they have had a lot of calls regarding Instacart fraudulent activity. I intend to dispute this and I will never use this service again and I will warn many others. Be warned.

After tedious hours spent adding things to the online cart and entering the delivery info and credit amount, it inexplicably cancelled my order and consumed the $100 credit. I spent hours on Instacart's senior citizen phone line trying to get this unraveled and was told to submit my driver's license and credit card on line to their security team. I should hear back within 2 days. This is a total pain in the **. What was meant as a kindness has turned into a protracted issues on top of the medical concerns we are already dealing with. It was bad enough that the $100 credit was diluted by the service fees and obvious product mark-ups plus with the tip. The total goods were valued at less than $75 and I still had to add a credit card to pay for the balance beyond the original $100 gift credit. I would NEVER curse a friend with a gift like this.

80% of the time, unless hamburger meat, something will be off on meats. Last time I got a thirty dollar roast that looks like a ten dollar piece of crap. Thin cut, grizzle extreme and pricey too. This goes for Fred Meyer, Safeway and Albertsons. Here's my theory. The shoppers buy two pieces of meat, one quality one you're NOT going to get and one ** one you'll get.. They return the one, no receipt in the bag thing.
Moreover, it amazes me how the stores are out of the chicken wings, actual RAW CHICKEN WINGS for football, not frozen ** replacement wings. Again receipt missing. In addition the scam may be deeper... Stores teach the shopper how to replace groceries with older package goods, this way they rotate their stock better. Normal shoppers shopping for themselves may pass on these subpar items, however, rewarding Instacart shoppers behind the scenes. Nonetheless this is far too frequent and systemic NOT to have some truth behind it. I SMELL A RAT, and when I do, generally I right! Instacart has NOT heard the end of this from me.
GET THE ** receipts or a full refund. How about that one. With weight on the receipt. Best PRACTICES GOING FORWARD. Take a picture of the beef for the customer to choose. I've really tried with the service. I joined their Instacart+ program. I use their three hour delivery window ($2 credit), I check the website of the supermarket before I make a purchase and try to buy items which are marked up $.50 or less and are on sale. But the service is terrible. They charge a service fee and they charge at least $1 more than the supermarket charges for EVERY item you buy (just another service fee) and they charge a bag fee and they charge a tip fee, they just charge. I buy yogurt from Shoprite. Shoprite charges $1.25 in the store and on their website, Instacart charges me $1.65 for the same yogurt...
And then they charge their service fee, delivery fee, tip, etc... So if you buy 20 items, expect to pay at least $25 more than if you went to the market or purchased online directly from the market, plus a service fee, plus a delivery fee, plus tip, etc. that wouldn't be so bad except many of the workers are very young and don't have a firm grasp of what they are doing. My ice cream arrives regularly as 'soup' and not ice cream, my items arrive expired, I order one tomato and they deliver 12 and I have to pay for them... sometimes I am charged for items I do not receive. Wouldn't be bad but after a few complaints they put you on a 'restricted list' and refuse to give you a refund for damaged items, item not received, items you didn't order.
You might think I am abusing the system but no, the representatives I speak to every time this happens see the problems and the photos but not much they can do except tell me to send photos, emails, requests etc. to some 'order appeals' email... Personally I would rather dispute the charges with my credit card and warn everyone I can about trusting this service. I have only had one order arrive successfully out of my last 16. This service is so expensive and the only good experiences I had with them was while I was on a free trial. The trial ended and so did the service.

She was not helpful and wanted to end the chat without resolving the issue. I asked to get this resolved and the agent told me that they can’t issue a refund since it’s past 15 days when again, I did not opt in to this.
It’s not right to charge the client money for what they did not sign up for and a service that they are not using. After acknowledging that it is in fact a subscription fee charged by instacart and not an order (I thought possibly my account was hacked), she suggested I dispute the charge with my bank. Today - I ordered again and the delivery person put cold raw sausages on the top of hot rotisserie chicken by the time package got here and I noticed it at my door (I again wasn’t notified that it had been delivered) the sausages which should be cold were warm because of the hot chicken and sitting at my door for who knows how long.
I ended up throwing them away because I understand food safety unlike those that you hire. If you are going to have people pick up and deliver food, they should have to take a basic food safety course to understand how food poisoning works. Lately their service has gone downhill and their policies are not user-friendly. Most of my Instacart experiences have been fairly decent. The two most outstanding happened at Kroger. 1) The shoppers had figured out how to manipulate the order so that items I would never buy, were on my order. It took over an hour on the phone to clear that mess up. 2) The latest, the shopper shows up with the entire order in a paper bag. Reeses Halloween candy on the bottom, with heavy stuff on top. I screamed at her. She said they bagged it. I told her she should have been watching.
A few days later, for some reason, I pulled that order up. I had been charged nearly $40 for ham when I should have been charged around $10. My husband took a picture of the label for proof. That took almost 2 hours and I got disconnected once in the meantime. That was the hardest $30 I've ever earned. Once again, the shopper should have looked at the label. I am done with Instacart. In our area, HEB fulfills the order and Favor (which they own) delivers. Brookshires (a Texas grocery chain) has their own employees deliver. My experience shopping for Instacart has been absolutely terrible. The first incident was concerning the referral bonus- my mom used my referral code to sign up to be a shopper, and completed all of the qualifications on time. She was supposed to receive $400, and I was supposed to receive $450. When it did not happen, we contacted Instacart customer service. They informed us that she did not type the code in correctly, but this was clearly an assumption as they were not able to tell us what code she did use. They also said there is no way to fix this after the fact, which is completely absurd seeing as all they have to do is verify that she completed the qualifications and then pay us both accordingly. She did put in the right code, she's extremely detail oriented- this was a glitch on their end and they were completely unwilling to help.
The second situation was when I shopped a very large order which took an hour and a half- it was an "Online Pay" order at Fred Meyer. When I got to the checkout and scanned the barcode for the order (which is how you pay for the online pay orders), it popped up with a message saying the code had already been used. After contacting customer service, the eventually (after an hour) discovered that the order had already been shopped but that the previous driver had an emergency on the way to drop it off and so I received it next. I spent ANOTHER hour chatting with customer service trying to find a way to pay for the order, as it was not allowing me to use my physical or digital card for it since it was online pay. At that point the store closed and I left, unable to pay for or deliver the order. They refused to compensate me because I could not complete the order, which was their fault entirely. That was 3.5 hours of work with no compensation.
Today I decided to work for a period of time where there was a $4 boost per order. The order was at Costco, and took me 1.5 hours to shop. My physical card was stolen a couple of days ago (which I reported to Instacart, a replacement is on the way) so as I walked into the store, I confirmed that they had tap and pay. When I was checking out the order, the digital card said "not authorized". Apparently you have to have the physical card at Costco, but Instacart does not inform you of that when you get the order. They were well aware that I don't have the physical card, as I reported it stolen. They compensated me only $5 and counted the batch cancellations against me.
Overall I have spent 5 hours of time without pay and did not receive the $450 I was promised for the referral, and they cheated my mother out of hundreds as well. If you're looking for a job that does not pay you, this is it. Otherwise I would steer clear of working for Instacart. Their customer service representatives don't care, they hardly even speak English, because obviously they outsource for that; they hate paying people to work for them.

I've been a customer for 5 years. I use the service every week. Recently I have had a number of orders with problems, some small, some huge. Examples include a whole bag of groceries (about $30) missing from an order and getting a small bag of coffee when paying for a large bag (about a $5 difference). For a bit, this was happening very frequently and they flagged my account, insinuating I was lying about order issues (their integrity clause in the TOS). I tried to address it at the time, but couldn't get in touch with anyone. I heard nothing for a month or so, so I thought all was well.
I got the above-mentioned bag of coffee this week. I was hoping to avoid an issue so I contacted the customer support chat option instead of using the app to get a credit. The person I dealt with said they issued the credit, no problem, I should contact some email to make it faster. I thought this was odd, but continued on. Of course, once the chat ended the information and the email address was gone.
I see the next day there is in fact no credit. I checked my email, and they have frozen my account's ability to receive credits. I have tried to get in touch with someone to discuss this issue, to no avail. They have simply gone around in a circle with emails, deflecting my VERY CLEAR explanation of my issue and wanting to discuss the problem, to a review of my recent order.
There is NO WAY to talk to anyone or address this problem that I can find. Customer service said a manager would call me back, but they did not. It is an absolute dead end. Needless to say, I will be deleting my account. At this point, if my entire delivery failed to arrive I would have no recourse. Despite repeated attempts to contact someone regarding this they refuse to even address the problem.

First, the 1.2 star rating seems rather high. I found myself in a pinch and wanted to order groceries from my local Aldis. Not being familiar with Instacart, I played along to purchase groceries to be picked up. After picking them and taking them home, I realized I did not have everything I ordered. I took it up with instacart in an email. They replied saying they were going to credit my account for the items I did not get. (Over $115 worth). The next day I went back to Aldis and they had all of my other items that had been forgotten from the day before.
Before I left the parking lot I was emailing instacart to advise that I had gone back the store and was able to get the rest of the order. I asked them to reverse the credit to my account and stated that I would still be using them. I then received an email from them telling me that due to recent activity, GPS activity etc they have locked and deactivated my account. In other words they accused me of trying to scam them.
I emailed them again and let them know that due to their incompetence I would no longer be using their service as I had previously stated. I also forwarded them my email I sent previously letting them know I had received the rest of my order and advised them to reverse the credit. Clearly the communication within this company is lacking at best. I won't be using this service again.

I placed an order and it took longer than usual to assign a shopper. I then spoke with customer service and asked them to cancel my order. I looked on the app and then I got a shopper. I asked to disregard my request to cancel. Everything was fine and my shopper got 2/3 items and then my order was cancelled. I then went back to customer service and NOBODY was assisting me. They ended chats on me and nobody would answer the phone. I'm very disappointed in Instacart and will not be shopping with them AGAIN.

I ordered for Minster card every now and then if I don't feel like getting out or if I forgot to get something. Today I ordered about eight things and ended up with about 12 to 15 items. I called Instacart to tell them this and that lady told me to throw the stuff away that I didn't want. I don't know where the hell she lives but where I live is a good very expensive area and we have so many people in line at food banks because they don't have the money to go to the store and this chick is telling me to throw away groceries so I will donate this food because it's nothing I eat.
These Shoppers need to stop shopping for more than one person at a time because then they bag everything together and if you do decide to use them make sure you go through your stuff before you let them leave because that's something I should have done. This is ridiculous and for someone to tell me to throw away food and the times that we're having now and the expenses that we have someone is not going to get their groceries. I wasn't charged for him. It's somebody else ordered stuff and they're not going to get their food. That's pathetic.

Will never order from Instacart again. My receipt said my bill was $57. When I checked my checking account they took out $65. No reason given for the extra charge. This is not the only time they ripped me off. Paid for items I did not receive, never gave me credit or a reason why I did not get them or why I had to pay for them. One time they left my order outside of my apt. building in the sun, had to toss some things out. Did not get a reason or refund. Big ripoff

The bad experience starts with bad packing. Essentially No packing. Frozen items not packed separately. No insulation. Rest of the items junked in no order. Twice my order was delivered to the wrong address. Drivers are not deliberate in identifying the correct apartment.
