I grateful Instacart is there when I need to make money but sometimes it's a real pain when it says items are available when they are not. Even worse when replacement for that item is unavailable also. Even worse when the shopper gets penalties on their rating when there isn't anything I could have done to make the situation better. On top of that I would recommend getting your pay instantly rather than wait for direct deposit. You have to pay a fee but you don't have to settle for lies when speaking with customer service.

The worst of the worst customer service. It essentially does not exist. When I get in touch with a live agent, he says he will look into the issue and help me. But after waiting for over 5 minutes, the chat will time out and disconnect me. It will then keep repeating. This is the worst customer service I have ever seen in my whole life.

Today, I used Uber Eats through my Instacart account to order some breakfast to be delivered. When our order arrived, I went outside to get it and could not find it so I looked at the front door camera feed. The Uber driver brings the order, as seen on our front door camera, puts the food at the front door, took a photo of the order and walked away. Then within minutes, the same Uber driver walked back to our front door, picked the order up and walked away with the order.
I then contact by phone Instacart and told a representative what had occurred. She advised me that I should talk to Uber Eats. I contact Uber Eats, the only way I found was by chat, and was told that since I ordered it on Instacart that I should contact them (not in those exact words). I go onto Instacart phone App to check can I see what happened on there where I originated the order and took actions to refund my order and got a message that there was a photo showing it was delivered. Though this message happened, I was still able to follow more prompts to refund the food I ordered.
My husband and I then decided to just order again direct from the same restaurant, go pick it up and investigate further about the Uber order before contacting authorities about this. Apparently, no one had picked up our order and the restaurant was nice enough to give us that order and our newly ordered food. SPECIAL NOTE: Uber Eats still charged us for the driver tip of more than $14 though they delivered nothing.

I am absolutely floored at the lack of support by issues on Instacart's end. Here I spend the time to get my order placed. Watch the shopper has gotten my order ready. It is ready for pick up and I am 5 mins from walking out the door to go pick up and I get an email my order has been cancelled bc my items are out of stock which is a total lie. Because I already saw the shopper got my items ready. Then I try to reach out for support 4 times on the app. 3 of them just keep getting disconnected as soon as I get connected to someone. The 4th person tells me the "shopper" had a barcode issue and cancelled my entire order and that I need to replace my entire order. Offers no support for an issue on your company's end.
I have no way to leave a review for the lazy shopper who just canceled my order without my permission. I try to call and the representative puts me on a long hold. I finally gave up and terminated the call. At this point I have spent longer trying to put my order together, figure out why something was cancelled without my permission and got zero help from customer service. It is such a disappointing and frustrating experience that has now messed up my whole Saturday. I just want to share what a poor experience it is to use instacart. I truly don't know if I can ever trust to use this service ever again. Signed a very disappointed customer, Amanda **

BEWARE: After paying $9.99 for the membership fee on August 14th, Instacart attempted to take out an additional $9.99 membership fee today, August 23rd. I contacted them via chat and was told that they didn't. I informed them that I had proof that they did and even after the proof, when I requested a refund and the cancellation of my membership, they said that they were unable to give me a refund. I have had them for 6 years and looking back on my banking history, this isn't the first time that if it's tempted or collected membership fees in the same billing cycle. I think it is very disgraceful and will never use them again.

Useless customer service who use stalling and frustration tactics to avoid providing customer service. Sick of pushing 1 for English and never getting someone who can speak it clearly. [outsourcing strikes again].. there's a problem with almost every order.. being disabled and in a small city, there's no other good options to get my food. The drivers take on too many orders and often forget/steal items or entire orders. The customer service won't do a thing about this. And will even go as far as threatening you if you try to escalate your complaint ["Johnny"].
If you call in over and over you might get an English speaker and then sometimes it gets resolved.. but otherwise it's like trial and error until you find the needle in a haystack that is the professional employee instead of the trolling fast talking scammers that keep asking for "account confirmation" information that Instacart doesn't even have like my birthday or mother's maiden name.. when confronted they hang up..

Just started using Instacart so I’m very new to it, and found out they are price gouging. The prices for items at a local grocery store are more on the app than what they actually cost. My receipt shows my order came up to $137.41 but my EBT card was charged $156.59 + service fee + tip. They should not be allowed to raise the prices on the app than what the items actually cost plus charge the other fees. That’s price gouging and I wasn’t AWARE of it. So it actually cost me $35.56 more to order on Instacart VS going to the store and getting them myself. BEWARE.

I didn't directly place an order through Instacart, but through the Meijer app which was to be fulfilled by Instacart. I never received my order. Instacart ended up canceling my order after it has already purchased and I was texting my driver (Marlon D.). He claimed multiple things were showing as canceled and that he also was talking to support however they couldn't reach him. Most ridiculous thing was the customer service agent told me I'd have to reorder my original order. Now why would I want anything to do with your service when your driver walked away with 100 bucks worth of groceries that were purchased. I never had this issue with Shipt.

They will reimburse but people order through them to have to service and ease. I suggest don't wait for dinner for same day. The don't refund delivery or service fees. They don't reschedule to get you your items either. They don't make you a priority or your items. I say order through the store itself instead. Several you have are wasted here.

I placed an order from Instacart that was supposed to be delivered from between 4pm to 6pm. At 5:45pm I wondered why I never received a text, call and no one rang my doorbell. I checked my cameras and found that the delivery had been made 30 minutes prior! All of my refrigerated items had been left in the Houston heat without any indication that the order had been fulfilled or delivered. This is a question of food safety! They should have the "right to deliver" revoked unless a more conscious effort to comply with basic food safety is adhered to.

Instacart is an irresponsible, incompetent, and completely disrespectful company toward its customers. I ordered $197.86 worth of groceries that I never received, and their only “proof of delivery” is a ridiculous photo of groceries in the trunk of a car — not at my home, not in my possession. After insisting and appealing, they denied me any refund, credit, or redelivery, completely ignoring the clear evidence that they failed. Now, they are even threatening to block my account over alleged “failed deliveries” that are not my fault — this is outright abuse and a total lack of ethics!
Instacart doesn’t deserve a single penny of my money. Their “customer service” is a bad joke, with no ability or willingness to resolve real problems. Review of customer service for the delivery drivers (Instacart driver here). When I started driving for the company 2 years ago, the customer service for the drivers was decent. You were connected with help fairly quickly and you could get a reasonable resolution in a timely matter. Fast forward to 2025 and the help afforded to the drivers is so incredibly bad, I often just call it a day after having to deal with them.
The wait times to connect with an agent is ridiculous (drivers are often shopping an order when trouble comes up, and I've had to wait up to 30 minutes for a solution to a simple issue before being able to continue with a customer order.) Orders disappear while they are being shopped for, leaving the shopper in the middle of a store with a half shopped order. When customer service is contacted for help, most often they will say there was "suspicious" activity and the order was pulled and given to someone else, leaving the shopper having to put everything back without getting paid. Issues like this ultimately effect customer while throwing drivers under the bus.

And then Instacart has the audacity to be like, "Oh if you want to cancel your order you’ll have to pay 15$." I don’t know how many times I got frustrated from by the shopper because in the message they don’t make a lot of sense. For example they reply was, "I did it." Did what? You need to be more specific with your words and today the reply was, "I’m not talking your lessons!" Like what does that even mean?

Their customer service policies are completely unreasonable. The free trial moves instantly into a year long membership which is annoying, but I should have read more carefully about that. However, because I use Instacart for Costco only, I did not shop again until several weeks later and the membership that I paid $111 for did not show up on my account. When I finally was able to reach someone to find out why, they said I had purchased a US membership and refused to reimburse me OR switch my membership to a Canadian membership. It's completely useless to me and all they would say was "sorry, because it's been 5 days since you bought your membership there is nothing we can do" ... From a company this big I'm absolutely shocked that they would do nothing.

Instacart is a scam, WHY? Because once they you get the membership things change over time. You are not supposed to pay for delivery, but even if you order the required amount. They still want to charge you a delivery fees. Yes the more you spend the more they lower it. Then the real kicker is you can only get free delivery when they say so. It's bad enough that they send people who cannot even speak English or Read English. It is even worst when they text and tell you, you are going to be issued a credit for a product not in stock. And then you are charge for it again. By this same person who cannot speak or read English. When my membersip is up, I am gone. Tired of being rip off by some company in California. I went to the help chat to ask them they said, Are you sure you are not looking at the shopper fee? I said it says long distance 5.00. The Rate your Experience rating ad came up so I guess I was like basically "hung up" on? So not sure who was getting taken here was it me or the shopper? I feel bad for the shoppers.
The company seems to be making all the money but wants the consumer to pay the wages in tips. I don't mind tipping but it shouldn't be to pay their wages. It's to be extra as in a tip. I read that the company use to pay mileage and now they don't. What? So tired of these big corporations taking advantage of the workers. You know if they were not so stressed to take on so many deliveries to make money to live, there probably would not be so many errors and they would be their normal friendly selves and then the business wouldn't get so many bad reviews and losing good workers. I have been an Instacart shopper since 2019. During this time, I’ve experienced consistent disrespect from the customer care team. I was even banned for voicing my concerns, only to be reinstated a year later. Over the years, the pay has significantly declined, and they’ve stopped reimbursing mileage. It used to be that Instacart’s pay exceeded tips, but now the batch pay has been cut by more than half, and mileage reimbursement has been eliminated altogether. They claim that mileage is included in the batch pay, but look at the attached picture. The distance from the store to the customer is 13.8 miles one way. The national average reimbursement for mileage is $0.70 per mile. Basic math shows that 13.8 miles x $0.70 = $9.66. However, as shown in the picture, the Instacart batch pay is only $6.77. This means they are not even covering the actual mileage cost, and a shopper would be losing money on this order.
It’s a disgrace that Instacart refuses to pay for mileage at all. Shoppers are essentially doing all their shopping for free. Despite making $457 million in revenue in 2024, the CEO’s compensation is $1.5 million, plus $15 million in restricted stock. Meanwhile, Instacart expects their shoppers to work without proper compensation, neglecting the costs of vehicle maintenance, tires, oil changes, insurance, car payments, and gas. It’s insulting that Instacart considers this acceptable. I challenge the CEO of Instacart to spend a day in the shoes of a shopper. Then, come back and tell us that the current pay structure is fair or sufficient.

I placed a second order for later that morning. That shopper was able to get the seafood, but by then several items that were previously in stock were no longer available. I messaged him to ask about the sun-dried tomatoes and he ignored me and checked out. I live two minutes from Publix so I could go get those myself, but the real issue was how he delivered my order. I have two porches, front and back. He pulled into my driveway, then backed out to the street, got out of the car, took a picture holding my groceries in the air near the large address numbers posted on the power pole, and left the bags in a pile of dirt next to some two by fours near the road. He did not place them on my front steps or back steps.
When I messaged him and asked if he really left my stuff in the road, he sarcastically replied, no I left them in a tree. I responded and called him out for being lazy and rude. He then recited my full address back to me followed by the words “say no more” in a way that was clearly meant to threaten me. That is not okay. He has my address and used it to intimidate me after an altercation that he escalated. I called him out for being lazy because he left my groceries in the dirt. That is not a threat.
Instacart allows their shoppers to poke, poke, poke, antagonize customers, speak to people like they are trash, and push them to their limits. But when a customer responds or shows any sign of frustration, they are the ones who get punished. I have seen so many people online say this same thing has happened to them. Instacart deactivated my account without reviewing what happened or even letting me explain. I was a regular customer who spent hundreds, sometimes thousands, with them. Instacart allows their shoppers to antagonize and disrespect customers, then punish the customer for reacting. This is unsafe, unfair, and completely unacceptable.

I absolutely loved Instacart for years. Never had an issue until I placed an order for $350 on March 5, 2025. I’m writing this in July, 2025. There was an issue with the account I paid thru so I paid again with another card. Both accounts were charged the full $350. I was told I would be credited back one of the transactions. I have had 25 chats and 27 conversations with customer service since March 5. It’s now July 6. Every chat and every phone conversation I have to start from the very beginning of the sequence of events. They say they can’t access previous chats or customer service conversations. Really? I’m told the money was sent to my account. It was never received on my end. I have filed 4 in writing complaints via email. Some responses say they the transaction does not qualify for a refund. So, I paid $700 for $350 in groceries. It has been an absolute nightmare trying to get ANY legitimate response from anyone.
Again, I loved Instacart and used it a few times per week for years. The lack of customer follow up and follow through over a $350 transaction where I paid twice after being told the original $350 would be refunded is still not resolved after 47 interactions and 4 filed email inquiries, I’m still waiting for $350 refund. What a disappointment. If there are no issues, they’re great. Just never make a mistake and believe their customer service is capable of resolving any issues.

Do not use Instacart. Not only at their service fees ridiculously priced but here in LA shoppers take two hours to collect 16 items and then unassigned themselves from the shopping app after waiting several hours. They are frequently now late for delivery and the only thing they promised you was free delivery which you are given anyway if you order in advance. Today was an emergency shopping day for Independence Day and the shopper after two collecting I only 16 items in two hours decides to unassigned himself and I’m left with the service fee and the charges and all they’re offering me is a $5 discount for a four hour delay in delivery and a service fee is $31 not including the tip I left.

I placed an order on 7/2/2025 through Instacart uber and the food was taken to an address that I sent groceries to earlier. Being that I sent an order to a different address than mine earlier, I ensured I changed the address when I placed my PF Chang order. The uber driver asked me where I was and when I told her, she said it was too far and left my food with an unauthorized person. The agent said she would reimburse me for the lost order with a credit. She gave me a $15 credit instead of $31 I spent for the food. The $15 was what I paid for the groceries not the food. When I reached out to complain, the agent sent an ugly text saying the case was closed and logged off on me. When I tried placing the order again using the $15 credit, Instacart didn’t honor the credit. I’m out of $31 dollars for the first order and had to spend an additional $35 to place another. I’m home bound and the service didn’t only disappoint but they also robbed me.

I never had a problem until I paid the annual fee. My last order took 4 hours to receive. I don't blame the person who shopped and delivered. It is a reflection on corporate. Previously I had surgery and no choice. My people were brilliant and very caring. The last time I was missing several items ordered. I was not charged but couldn't understand how certain staple items weren't found. I don't blame the driver. The order was picked up by another and then they cancelled the order. I am local so it's not the distance. Maybe it was the heat. I want to give 5 stars but cannot understand how a person with no membership is charged $1.59 delivery fee and I was going to be charged $12. The other person ordered at 6pm, crazy rush hour time. I ordered at 2:30,p in the afternoon. So rather than pay $ 12+ for delivery I got the annual fee. THEN my order took 4 hrs to deliver. There are no PEOPLE to talk to. I wanted to cancel membership.. all the website/app did was cancel reoccurring renewal. I feel like I got rooked. That's why the rating is 4. I ordered 8 items. There is no rhyme or reason to it. Today I tried to order a sandwich from Jersey Mike's. They couldn't fill the order. Wtf.

I can wait. It's not an emergency atm except more of a convenience since I don't want to go out in this blazing heat wave.
I would even understand if no one accepted my order because of this heat. But no they locked my account. 72 hours later and they still have not released my account which is well over the 6 hours they quoted. I called customer service to kind of expedite things and they basically told me I was SOL. I use my instacart to have groceries delivered to my grandfather who can't walk and I do this for him since he lives in another city and I'm not there to help him all the time. He's running out of groceries and right now there's nothing I can do to help him.

This situation needs to be escaladed, and this shopper should not be allowed to shop for anyone again. Beware of non-refundable fees. They have a non-refundable fee policy. So if anything goes wrong with your order they will not compensate you. They will tell you they’ll give you a credit. Why would I want a Instacart credit if you are not getting my order right. So that means I have to shop with Instacart again to get the credit so I am still spending money with the service that’s not treating me right as a customer. I will not be using their services again. Also beware of the overpricing. If you were to go to the store yourself it would be way cheaper.
Shoppers are also taking multiple orders and then they cancel your order and then you go back in the queue and have to wait on another shopper to pick up your order. If the original shopper wouldn’t have picked up so many orders another shopper would’ve had the opportunity to get your order and you wouldn’t have had to wait so long for your order. Instacart has a lot of issues going on. They need to go back to the drawing board.

Instacart is good if you’re in a desperate situation. Their pay is too low for the amount of groceries you need to shop for and also for the amount of people you’re shopping for. It does not matter how much they give you in tip. Once an item is not available and the person does not choose a replacement and you have no choice to make a replacement and the person does not want that replacement. You have no other choice but to refund. However, when you do refund you lose out of your tips!!! They do not take from the batch, but they will take from your tip, which is ridiculous when you are the one putting wear and tear on your car, wasting gas going back-and-forth trying your best to find these items and they don’t take that into consideration.
For an example on Mother’s Day, why would anyone place an order for flowers/roses at or after 12 PM and expect to have not just one but 2,3, or 4 bouquets of roses or flowers available at that time and then again they’ll take from your tip once it’s not available. (this is one holiday. They need to really make an exception when there are not available) I mean, what are we supposed to do abracadabra?!?! Seriously this company is just for when you’re desperate, but it’s not worth of anything!!!! You’re better off doing DoorDash where you don’t put wear and tear on your body at least and get a good better “Definitely better pay”.
I would really recommend doing DoorDash and not Instacart is not worth your time or energy!!! Oh and another thing do not do any deliveries after 11 because once it hits 12, you will not see your batch pay and they’ll claim that it’s pending and that it’ll take 24 hours, however you will never see it!!!! So make sure you screenshot every offer you accept so you have proof!!!!

He seemed to be in a hurry, quickly dropping off the bags before leaving. As I put away my groceries, I realized my order was incomplete. I immediately tried to contact customer service, but communicating with them was nearly impossible. Despite explaining the issue and submitting a formal review request, they refused to issue a refund—almost $200—citing that GPS showed the driver had been at my house.
To make matters worse, every time I attempted to get my case reviewed again, they blocked my email, cutting off any further contact. Then, they went even further and locked me out of my account entirely, preventing me from accessing proof of my conversation with the delivery person. I would love to share a receipt or a photo, but as I mentioned, I no longer have access to my account. This was by far the worst customer service experience I have ever had. I placed a grocery order through Instacart at approximately 2:00 PM. I selected the standard “No Rush” delivery option, as I did not require express service. At the time of purchase, Instacart provided an estimated delivery window. However, after confirming my order, the delivery window was repeatedly and significantly pushed back. It is now projected that my order will arrive more than 4.5 hours after it was placed — well over an hour beyond even the originally estimated timeframe.
I understand that “No Rush” delivery may prioritize lower urgency, but the manipulation of delivery times to this extreme degree feels punitive and abusive. It appears Instacart intentionally deprioritizes “No Rush” orders beyond reasonable expectations in order to push customers toward purchasing additional express fees in the future. This practice feels not only unethical but also manipulative, exploiting customer trust and good faith. If Instacart offers “No Rush” options with an estimated time, they should honor it within a reasonable variance. Delaying orders by hours, well outside of the promised window, is unacceptable. Customers should not be effectively punished for choosing standard service options.
I am filing this complaint to request:• Greater transparency and honesty in estimated delivery times,
• An end to excessive penalization of “No Rush” deliveries,
• Accountability for misleading delivery practices that pressure customers into paying more.
I would appreciate a formal response from Instacart addressing these concerns.

I immediately went to their support page and began what ended up being a multiple day spanning event, with literally hours of time spent via their support chat portal, on the phone and by email. Their claim is that the charge is for some service they offer. I made it abundantly clear that I did not enroll in any service, did not want any service, and absolutely did not authorize any enrollment or charge and that there was some issue or problem on their end. They responded with hanging up on me, ending the chat mid-conversation, and on at least one instance, was told a bold faced lie. They have ignored multiple requests for them to furnish any proof that I enrolled in this service or authorized any charge for any services outside of the $30 that I had tried to authorize but was told did not go through.
They refuse to hear me out, to give me back my money, and refuse to allow me to speak to any of their senior support agents or management of any kind. I have gone to the Federal Trade Commission and involved them as well as the Attorney General, the Better Business Bureau and the ADA and the governor of our state are next. (The ADA because their theft critically impacted a child with a disability.) I am having a forensic data retrieval expert examine my computer to further prove there was no consent on my part to this whatsoever and will proceed as far as is necessary until they do the right thing and give back what they stole from me and consent to have their data audited for this kind of theft elsewhere to other people. I have every conversation with them documented to convey by itself the absolutely deplorable way they treat customers. If you are wise, you won't risk it with these thieves.

Hi. A pack of water bottles were missing from my order placed on 10th April 2025. I even called the store to confirm and they validated my call. I even added the customer service of Instacart to the conference call so that they can hear too directly from the store's employee. However even after hearing the confirmation, they have denied my refund. I highly regret referring my friends to Instacart. It is denying legitimate claims for refund. The height of cluelessness is that the customer service agent Mahima wanted me to provide a pic of the missing item. Thanks.

My purchase through Instacart from Costco was never delivered. Instacart blames Costco for their inability to fix the problem by delivering the purchase today. Instacart's only solution is to give me a credit or make me wait a week for a refund and then I must place a new order. The Instacart customer service manager, Calvert, was unwilling to fix the problem and kept blaming Costco. I really like Costco and this is so disappointing and frustrating. I am a Costco member. Costco really needs to make Instacart treat Costco's members with the same care and attention that they provide. Instacart blaming Costco is unacceptable.

This people are no joke, they don't care about their customers, all they care is about making money no matter what. I schedule a food delivery between 7 am to 10 am. Because I was not going to be home after 10. They change the delivery window to 8/11. Well I wasn't going to be there after 10 so they left the order sitting out there for over 5 hours, I didn't got home until after 5. So why have a schedule for us to pick a time frame when we know will be home, when they are sending your order at what ever time they feel like it. Doesn't make sense.
Beware of this people. They do whatever with your order and don't care, then try to tell you that order was on time according to the new schedule they pick. What a joke, and let's not talk about you paying a fee to get the order very soon, the orders arrive later when they feel like it, but you are charge a fee to get it very soon, very high fee. How is that. And not counting how many times this people get orders and refund items cause they don't want to go look for it, and not saying how many times you are missing so many things. The reason why people are buying directly from stores that deliver cause they are careful about your items, they take good care of the orders. Don't use Instacart if you don't want to give away your money and waste many times with them. Bad customer service when trying to contact them. The worst.

I placed an order with Instacart yesterday, the pencil next to an item where you can add notes wasn't working. In the order, I had men t-shirts. The shopper just grabbed any size and immediately checked out. I messaged the shopper and didn't receive an answer. I received my order, the t-shirts were wrong of course. I contacted instacart, they said they will give me a credit for the item, then all of a sudden the credit in my instacart account disappeared and they sent me a email stating that they couldn't issue a credit and that I could appeal it.
In the beginning of using instacart it was perfect, now it's horrible! Some shoppers will bring you anything melted, moldy, expired etc or not bring the item at all even when it says they shopped it. I had my items smell like weed, cigarettes, crack and meth, I had shady characters delivering my items. It's like they hire anyone! The worst grocery delivery. I have never ordered groceries where the produce items were not wrapped in produce bags. Who puts lettuce, celery, green onion, fruit directly in a shopping cart, through the checkout stand without putting the items in a produce bag for sanitary, hygiene reasons. Then into the delivery car, out in the rain, in an elevator and then placed on your doorstep. Then send you a photo stating they can’t find your address so you still pay the expedited delivery fee. I contacted customer service and spoke to four different representatives. All giving me the runaround regarding a refund.
I brought all the groceries back to the store and had the manager ready to speak to them. Still got the runaround regarding a refund. I left both bags of groceries at the store as I don’t want groceries packed by a driver who doesn’t practice basic hygiene and food handling safety protocols. Cost me $80. Still waiting for my refund and trying to cancel my free trial. Never will ever use Instacart again. Wish I had read all the bad reviews prior to ever using this company. Never will use them again. Not only did I never get my dinner made but they wasted 2 1/2 hours of my time trying to get a resolution. I'm sure they won’t be in business long with so many 1 star reviews.

1. I have to admit I love the convenience of Instacart and all the shopping/restaurant options.
1. The app puts the ping in a place on the map, that is not my apartment. There is no option to move it to the correct location. I have reached out to Instacart regarding this. They assured me a ticket was filed. No follow up. Still an issue. Even though I put specific directions to my apartment and the gate code, as well as send a message with the instructions, the drivers just go to the ping on the map.
2. Most of the drivers do not speak English. Even though there is the ability in the app to send a message in their native language and have it translated to the buyers language, they do not use it. They have also called me and then told me then don't speak English. It's incredibly hard to communicate with drivers.
3. Different drivers show up than what is provided on the app. Different cars show up. I am a single woman living alone. It's very alarming to be expecting a woman, open the door and it's a strange man standing there.
4. The drivers will not take accept an order unless the tip is high. I placed an order today. It sat under the status of "Order has been accepted" for an hour and was never accepted by a driver. I reached out to chat support. I got a very scripted answer. I was told it was due to driver shortages and they will get to my order as soon as possible. I canceled that order and re-ordered it with a high tip. It was accepted by a driver within 2 minutes.

Instacart said they would refund the purchase, but then we got a letter saying there would be no refund, instead we will get a free one month express service. For three hundred dollars! The chat service is in the middle east or someplace similar. Your arrival time constantly moves later and later and then they finally cancel the order. They couldn’t tell their shoppers a store was closed one day, so they kept going there (instead of another location) and cancelling orders. I had a terrible first and last experience with this horrendous company - INSTACART. I was searching for a simple product online, Instacart allegedly showed better pricing and value, so I decided mistakenly without reading reviews on this company and its service, to order it from them by taking their 2 weeks free trial with the InstacartPlus membership. Shortly after completing the order, I started to get several text messages apparently from the driver that was supposed to pick the item up at Shoppers Drug Mart which Instacart appointed to handle my order. He texted me that he is on the way with the item I ordered. Shortly after I get a text from him saying that the item I ordered is not available and he suggested a replacement item. I did not want the replacement item as it was less value in quantity and 50% higher price so why would I want such a replacement. All these texts were automated from their system.
I didn’t get a chance to refuse and reject the replacement. On the contrary, in the texts they indicated IF I WANT THE REPLACEMENT then to reply Yes, but I NEVER did reply Yes. Regardless, they went ahead and bought the replacement WITHOUT MY EXPLICIT AUTHORIZATION, charged me 50% more and that moron driver that handled my order and delivery bought the item with his own credit card and left the replacement item at my door shortly after. I was shocked when I got the item and saw I got half of the quantity with 50% higher cost than I originally agreed to. I called Instacart shortly after, reported this unfortunate first experience. The only thing their customer service reps know to do is to constantly apologize for the inconvenience, in my view they are reading from a script and they are obliged to follow it. I demanded a refund.
The reps kept me on hold for quite some time and got back saying that the refund cannot be processed so I need to fill out a form to appeal for a refund. Never thought that I would need to spend so much time to get a refund, but I filled out the form, and after three days after I had to follow up with them as they did not get back to me within 48 hours, they sent me an email that my Appeal is rejected and I cannot get a refund nor a replacement. I called several times asked to talk to a manager, sent them emails with pictures of the item I got, and the receipt showing they charged me more than 50% of what I originally consented to, but got no reply whatsoever. They completely ignored me. This company, although public, is in my view engaged in fraudulent, unethical business practices.
If I had read the reviews on any platform before ordering and saw that Instacart has one of the worst reviews I ever read on any company let alone a publicly traded company, I would never have used their services. My recommendation is to stay away like from fire from this company. I also called Shoppers Drug Mart and reported about this unethical business conduct to the store manager whom was shocked to hear all that and I told him that the fact that Shoppers, being a reputed chain of stores, is doing business with such a shady company and service like Instacart does not add to their reputation nor to their credibility. I tried to get a refund from Shoppers but I could not because the receipt indicated that it was paid with a different credit card of the stupid driver, so if Shoppers would process the refund it would go to the driver’s credit card and not mine while I would still incur the higher cost.
This is purely a SCAM; this company should be investigated and be shut down!!! I immediately cancelled my membership, removed my credit card details from their platform and listen to this, if you want to cancel the membership it has to be in writing, and the processing may take up to 30 days, which passed by the way and I still have not heard back from them, simply outrageous!!!

I had an extremely frustrating experience with Instacart on January 26, 2025, and I strongly advise against using their service. I placed a $218.82 order from Publix in LaGrange, GA, only to have it completely mishandled due to their app being down. Instacart failed to provide real-time updates, meaning I had no idea when my order was being shopped, if there were issues, or even when it was delivered. The shopper did not ring the doorbell, and I never received a notification that the groceries had arrived.
As a result, my groceries—including perishable and frozen items—sat outside for over two hours in 54°F weather, spoiling completely. When I finally discovered the order, I immediately contacted Instacart's customer support and spoke with a representative named Lindor, who assured me that I would be refunded for the spoiled items, delivery fees, and the tip. Lindor instructed me to dispose of the items immediately for safety reasons.
Despite following all instructions and submitting 12 photos as evidence, Instacart has continuously stonewalled my refund request. Their customer support team repeatedly claimed I needed to submit missing information—despite me providing everything they asked for multiple times. They even requested pictures of the spoiled food, which I had already thrown away per their own representative's instructions! After multiple back-and-forth emails and over 40 hours of waiting, they refused to issue a refund.
Instacart’s customer service is unresponsive and misleading, and their system failures result in wasted time and money for paying customers. They do not stand behind their service guarantees, and their lack of accountability for spoiled food and failed notifications is unacceptable. If you value reliable service, accountability, and good customer support, do yourself a favor and avoid Instacart. There are better, more trustworthy grocery delivery services out there that actually care about their customers.

I ordered in December and it was 5 hours late. After spending over an hour on the phone they said they were short on drivers (how is this my problem) and they would credit my next order. Essentially forcing me to order from them again. I gave them one more chance on January 10th and the order was not delivered (someone else got it). After another hour on the phone they said they would redeliver by 11:30AM I don't see this happening. I asked what happened to the $20.00 credit from last time and they said it would be applied to my next order. I said no way it was for this order than they followed up and said okay like they were doing my a favor. These people are scammers and should be shut down. This is horrible.

I'm pleased with the service for the most part. I appreciate that there's an alternative if I'm too busy to go to the grocery store myself. I've come to terms with the padded prices and hidden fees because I'm sure costs are involved in maintaining the app and providing the service. There's a price to pay for the convenience that this service provides. I also appreciate the no-fuss, quick return policies and procedures, and amazing customer service at the 1-800 number.
However, I've had a few consistent challenges in dealing with Instacart. I don't like selecting a tip amount before the order is placed. This incentivizes the order so shoppers can "shop" orders and either accept or decline them. This doesn't work to the customer's advantage. It's also backward. Tips should be earned, not automatically given to shoppers to supplement their incomes. This practice puts the responsibility on the consumer to provide a fair wage, rather than the company--where it belongs. Shoppers should not be able to see a tip amount until AFTER delivering an order. This prevents the customer from experiencing a disgruntled shopper who becomes passive-aggressive because they didn't get their desired tip amount.
I'm a generous tipper, but I like to wait until AFTER services are rendered before I adjust the final amount. This has caused several problems for me, so I now put in the maximum amount BEFORE the shopping experience, then adjust it AFTER. This is a hassle; customers should not have to look at this twice. So I think this part of their ordering system should be changed.
Another problem I've experienced is Spanish communicators in the chat. Shoppers see my last name, assume I speak and text Spanish, and they respond to my English language questions in Spanish. I feel that the primary language in the app should be English. If the customer communicates in Spanish, fine, both parties can communicate in their native language. However, until they know this, English should be the primary language. The responsibility to communicate in English should be placed on the shopper, not the customer having to go to Google Translate to understand the language the shopper uses during a shopping order. This is unacceptable, and I've lodged complaints with the company about it.

They signed me up for annual membership without my permission, charged my credit card without my authorization and sent me confirmation email. Thanks a lot! At least made aware of their unlawful action! Had to cancel and delete all methods of payments in my account to stop that outrage for future. Bad experience!!!

Bad company to do business with, they don’t honor giving full refunds on items and don’t really care how people feel. It’s a big scam and I believe they’ll be out of business soon, especially seeing their horrible reviews!

Beware of the promotions! I was supposed to get $40 off of $80. I made my order for $84. The shopper had to substitute some things. I told her I had to keep it above $80. While I was still telling her on the chat what to sub, SHE CHECKED OUT! I screenshotted our entire chat for proof, but Instacart just says, "Your order was not $80 so you are not eligible." The funny thing is I was using this order to prove to my husband that we should sign up... Instead it proved to me that we shouldn't! Even if we had gotten our promo, it would have only saved me about $20 because of all the fees.

I ordered from Instacart on Christmas Eve 2024 and my order was not delivered to my house. There's a picture of a different house they sent the order to and a conversation with the delivery driver that he did not deliver my order. I was on the phone for an hour and 45 minutes trying to get a hold of someone about my delivery. But there were problems that day with Instacart's customer service which I found out on Christmas Day because I spent Christmas Day calling again about the order I did not receive. When I spoke with a lady on Christmas day, she said that she refunded my order. Seven days later I see my order was not refunded and I never received an email about this, yet no one reached out to me or tried to take care of this.
I called again yesterday 12/30/2024 and they said my order has not been refunded and sent me an email saying they couldn't refund my order, and I had to do an appeal here's your ticket number: **. I'm thinking this is ridiculous. You can clearly see I never received my order. So, I did the appeal at 11:00 am yesterday and no email and nothing... Nobody got back to me. I'm extremely furious and frustrated that instacart would steal from someone. I have children and this has ruined our holiday season. I have lived in the same house for over eight years. Again, I'm on the phone with instacart at 1:00 am in the morning and I'm still having a problem getting even a credit. I asked the lady what was going on?,,, "You can clearly see I did not receive my order."
She said I was a high-risk account which I had to laugh at, because I used to use instacart all the time and a few drivers stole my ice cream and some stuff from my bags, and I would call about mold on fruit I received to get it refunded. After I was stolen from a driver and customer service said they called the driver and he said it was delivered, I stopped using instacart for a very long time. I decided to give you guys a try again recently and lo and behold here we go again. And especially on Christmas Eve. This is as low as a company can go to withhold food from a family during the holidays. There's no security or safety in ordering with Instacart. It's sad that you allow the company to be run this way. There's no compassion and instacart does not care if they are wrong nor do they take accountability. I still have not received a credit, my food, or a refund.

I placed an order for pickup and tried to cancel the order prior to pickup time. I received this message on the app. I have been fighting with their customer service for a refund since October 18, 2024. I have disputed with credit card company and they struck out with them. They make promises that a refund is on its way and then nothing. Worst company ever.

I placed an order with Instacart for a 6pm pickup on 12/24. I arrived and it wasn't there. I got an email at close to 7pm, when Publix was closing to tell me they switched my delivery to 12/26. The food was for Christmas so I tried to cancel and kept getting technical difficulties on their website. Since I couldn't cancel I cut the order to five items. I then saw that a BOGO had ended so I didn't want the item. I could go on and on but won't. It was a disaster from start to finish. Terrible Customer Service. I can't add a receipt because when my husband went to Publix they had nothing and said it might be at a different store? What the heck? Never again. I would forgo groceries rather than use them if I couldn't get to the store myself.

I ordered groceries at 11am on Christmas eve with expected delivery time of 2:34. However my groceries never been delivered, I called 3 times to customer support and was told they had technical issues and they weren’t even willing to help me. After being on hold for 40min The first customer service told me they guaranteed it will be delivered tonight. However at 7pm when all stores are closed for the holiday I called back again asking where my order is and was on hold for another 30 minutes and the customer service was very unprofessional, rude and was not willing to listen to my frustration and told me to cancel my order.
When I went to the app to cancel my order there is $15 fee to do so, I had to call back again. With another 30min wait I was able to get the fee waived and cancel my order. My family ends up eating P&J sandwiches on Christmas eve. I was disappointed with Instacart for not communicating the issue early on so that I can go get my groceries. Instead they waited until I called twice to let me know I won’t get my groceries.

I have ordered through Instacart AT LEAST a dozen times. 10 of the experiences were terrible. Drivers often claim the store does not have the simplest items or any of the 3 or more possible replacement items, things like 80% fat chopped beef at Stop and Shop, Italian sausage (the Stop and shops in New Haven and Hamden CT where I live have over 1 dozen different brands of so- called "Italian Sausage" all very close in price, so if your choice is not there, there are often 10 similar items to choose instead.
I will more than often get my entire order sans any protein I ordered at all, chopped meat, hotdogs, steak, pre-formed hamburgers, etc. Often no food items in large order at all, when it was the food that prompted me to order in the first place. Today Christmas eve I placed an order 11am and was told it will arrive between 4pm and 5:30 pm. I started getting notices my shopper was on the way to the store at 4pm. The I got noticed the shopper would be at my house at 4:30pm, no show, then I got notice 5:15pm, then 5:50pm then I got notice that demand was too high and my order will be delivered 8-10 am Christmas day. This is typical. Customer service can NEVER be reached in person. Avoid this high priced scam at ALL costs.

I used to use Instacart for some grocery deliveries despite higher prices. I was often disappointed with shoppers mixing up orders, selecting wrong items, picking poor quality. So, I stopped. But occasionally I order pickup from Sprouts. I have had an issue every single time!!! Now they have told me that despite the shopper selecting spoiled produce they won't refund me. Or the fact that he forgot an item and I had to go inside the store wait for 10 minutes. I will never use them again.

Instacart charged me an extra $14.88 claiming it is an adjustment charge when my bill totalled what my order was prior to their additional charge. They have given multiple excuses for this extra charge even when they have been given a photo of my receipt and they claim to have checked my account. I just want my money back and the fee for the Instacart + that I no longer want as I have switched to DoorDash for my shopping needs.

I am usually very happy when I use this app but not today. I will never use it for Restaurant Depot again. I asked for America cheese from James Fram and Pure Leaf Tea. Tea was fine but shopper said they were out of the cheese. So it was refunded. Next thing I know my order is being replaced with a new delivery time and both items for someone to shop. I canceled the order. My husband had to go out so he made the extra shop. Guess what they were not out of the cheese. They had a ton of it. I gave 3 stars because I got a refund for my order and Customer service did a good job. The shopper gets a 1 star.

I have shopped online with Amazon and many other retail providers, but my experience with Instacart was hands-down the worst. From unexplained charges to inappropriate payment method fees, it was a complete nightmare. It felt as though their system and processes were designed by novices, and not much thought went into ensuring a seamless or secure experience for users.
The biggest red flag for me was the lack of transparency. Charges appeared on my account after checkout that were never shown to me during the payment process. Imagine looking at your account and seeing fees you cannot explain—my fear of identity theft skyrocketed. This is unacceptable for a company handling sensitive financial information.
If you can help it, stay far away from Instacart. The frustration and lack of trust it inspires are not worth it. I’ve now decided to return to in-person grocery shopping. At least there, I can see exactly what I’m paying for without worrying about unexplained charges mysteriously appearing on my account. Instacart, you have a long way to go. Until then, I'll take my business elsewhere.
