I've experienced all of these issues that Instacart Customers are reporting with their groceries and shopping orders over three years of shopping with Instacart; including not even having received my entire order 3 different times and also having received another people's orders and another person receiving mine. Imagine being accused BY Instacart Support and Appeals of being fraudulent with my report of not having received things but still charged for them - WITH WRITTEN PROOF via their own chatting system. And Instacart KEEPING MY MONEY to ITEMS I'D NEVER RECEIVED. I was immensely offended and PISSED OFF. Although my job is one where I travel often and often need groceries delivered to my locations, I unsubscribed to Instacart so fast. I'm looking for another service that is professional, honest/integral, thorough in operations and that values their long-term customers.

Placed grocery order for delivery from Publix. Asked that groceries be left at the front door. Delivery driver left the order as requested. Unfortunately it was someone else's order and was from Food City not Publix. We needed these items for Christmas at our son's house and needed them delivered before the anticipated storm that was to happen overnight in East Tennessee.

I called customer service. After 20 minutes on hold I hung up and contacted them through the chat feature. After a 15 minutes wait and passing me from one agent to the other I was told for safety reasons to throw away the received order or keep it or donate it. We are 70 year old senior citizens and had no room in our freezer, no need for two gallons of milk and lots of other groceries that appeared to have been for a party someone was having. Offered to take to whoever it should have gone to but they refused to allow that to happen.

I asked for them to find our order and deliver it immediately. I was told our shopper could not be located and was not responding. I asked them to have someone reshop our order and deliver. They said that wouldn't be possible. I said how about shopping it while I drive to store and pick it up before they close. Again I was told couldn't happen. They processed a refund supposedly but already have ruined many Christmas plans especially if the weather is as bad as they say it's going to be and we can't get to the store in the morning. They care not. Unfortunately they ruined some other person's plans as well since we received their order. Furthermore their error has caused the destruction of perfectly good food which is a travesty. What a joke of a company. Will use Walmart for grocery pick up in the future.

I ordered groceries on the Kroger app to be delivered at 10am before we have this huge blizzard. At 10am I received a text message my shopper was at the store preparing my order then get an update she she checked my groceries out and was on her way. Then I received a message that my order would be delayed 2 hours so I called Kroger at my local store. They told me it has nothing to do with that and that I needed to call Instacart so I called Instacart. They tell me I had to talk to Kroger customer service so I called them only to be redirected back to Instacart and do a three-way phone call time to find out my delivery driver checked my groceries out and then left them at the register saying she had an emergency but didn’t let nobody know.

It took them over three hours to find a new delivery driver and once he was there they refused to release my groceries to him due to the fact that the other driver had already checked them out so in the app it updated it as they have been delivered. Neither of the companies are willing to make this right. Both are putting the blame on each other meanwhile why they are pointing fingers at each other me and my children will be at home with no groceries and no money during a storm that is bringing 50 mph winds -45° wind chill and snow. They credited my Kroger account $15 as if that is supposed to make up for it. I literally spent 4 1/2 hours while at work on the phone trying to get all of this straightened out today.

Me and my kids shouldn’t go without eating just because I can’t hire competent drivers. The second driver bless his heart stayed up there for two hours trying to get this straightened out just to be told that my order could not be released. I don’t know how it works as far as they pay him or not but I would hope they would at least compensate him for being there for so long since he wasn’t able to get the tip from my grocery order since it was already cashed out and I had no money left in my account to even send him anything due to my money being tied up in this order that I never received. They honestly deserve zero stars that I will give them at least one due to the second driver going out of his way trying to help me even though it was a lost cause. He deserves to work for a better company.

I HATE Instacart. This morning I placed an order and had my payment rejected on several cards. I then tried to use one of said cards to purchase at Amazon, no problem then used card to purchase a Instacart card. Code was put in and was well over the amount needed so I had a zero balance. BUT Instacart requires a cc for "hold". The CC I can't use at Instacart. So now I can't use the gift code, and all the cards I tried to use are now under fraud investigation and I have to call all my cc companies. Called CUSTOMER SERVICE, no help. Have to have a card. Escalated the issue and was told someone would resolve and email within 25 minutes. That was at 11 am. Never use Instacart.

I'm a nurse and covering other health care workers this week 12 - 13 hours per day. I have sick family members at home so no one is able to get our for groceries or walk our dog. I ordered $150.00 groceries yesterday a.m. from Harris Teeter in Landsdowne, VA. I received a text stating groceries delivered at 6PM. I arrived home at 8PM and no bags anywhere to be seen within my condo building or others nearby. Upon contacting Instacart the customer service reps were rude, very challenging to understand and argued with me that the groceries had been delivered to my address. However, none of the 3 I spoke with were able to provide me or verify my address. Thus, not sure how they knew they were delivered. In addition, I never received the groceries and I'm told it will be a minimum of 10 days possibly more if I even get a refund.

The first order I tried to place - they canceled my order and canceled my account. I had no idea why that happened, so I called them. I wasted 2 hours on the phone with their representatives. They asked me to verify my identity. I had to take photos of myself holding my ID and credit card and submit that to them. Several times they said the images I sent were not good enough, and I had to resend. Then they reactivated my account and I was able to shop.

Over the course of 5 month (shopping about once or twice per month), they canceled my account and order 4 times. And each time they asked me to provide photos of myself holding my ID and credit card and submit that to them. This is harassment. It’s the same thing as frisk and search. If I was walking down the street and I was stopped and asked to show my ID. This is the same, except online. Finally I refused to do it. And I told them that after the 4th time it's plain harassment. Not trust and safety. I told them I’d file a complaint against the company and give them a 1 star review. They were not at all concerned. They could not care less. This is an evil and very dangerous company. Will never use them again. I regret giving them my ID at all. And wasting my precious time trying to work with them. They probably will try to use my IDs for identity theft.

On December 3, I found out that my daughter had been sick for 10 days and was out of wood pellets for her only heating source. I used Instacart to order wood pellets from Lowe's in Santa Fe to have them delivered to her. Instead, they delivered barbeque chips. Totally not the same thing. I got on the help chat that night, but nobody responded. So I called the "senior" hotline. I was told, apparently by someone in India, that I would receive a refund "within a few days." It has now been 13 days, so I got back on the help chat and talked with an apparent bot named "Ethel." After an HOUR on the chat, I was told that I was SOL and I would not be getting a refund, but I could appeal it at a certain e-mail address. So I did, and was not only denied the appeal, but my account has been frozen from accepting any further refunds or adjustments!

Saying "Excuse Me" while shoving the grocery divider and groceries backwards while trying to get the rest of MY groceries on the conveyor belt apparently isn't universal enough for this Spanish Instacart Shopper to understand here in Brevard County Florida. First she hit my cart with hers and pinned me between the conveyor belt and my cart while she never stopped speaking Spanish on the phone and unloaded all the groceries from her cart on the belt. I had to shove her stuff back EIGHT times to get the rest of my stuff on the belt while she ignored me because she spoke non-stop Spanish in a manner like she was complaining to a friend.

Then once I moved my cart out of her way so I could get BEHIND my cart to push it, SHE HIT ME WITH HER CART! And acted like she didn't notice when I said WHAT THE HE!! LADY!? How did I know this was Instacart? Well she learned "I Instacart" in English so the cashier knew what to do. Good Job Instacart. Is there a place where I can leave this review for Instacart HR?

I would never want this person to EVER TOUCH my groceries much less pay them to. I feel horrible for the person that had to deal with her delivering the food she literally THREW onto the conveyor belt. Not only do I not use Instacart, I WILL NEVER use Instacart and I will make sure to share this everywhere I can so I can hopefully get others to NEVER USE INSTACART!

My order was cancelled because the shopper claimed she could not find my items. I went to the store and found every single one. When I called initially I was told to go to another Kroger to find my items. I went to the same Kroger and realized that she never started shopping in the first place. I asked for their corporate office number and was told they could only give me an email. I told their customer service person that their shopper broke their own company policy to which they told me that they will give me a 5 dollar credit and they will handle her by making sure she could not shop for me again. How is that a reprimand? Do not shop with them. This is the 5th time I've encountered a shopper who just drops my order and nothing is done. I'm removing them from my phone and computer. I am posting here as well as TrustPilot to try and share my experience and spare others the frustration. We ordered $327 worth of Costco groceries, 25 items, and received someone else’s 4 item order. But the incompetence hasn’t ended there. We asked for a redelivery of the items we DID order, said we did not want a refund (as it would take 5-10 days to process and we needed groceries badly), and they said they would redeliver in 24 hours, and I receive an email confirming I will be contacted re the redelivery in 24 hours. This was the first outright lie.

Later that evening I get an email saying I was instead given a refund. We immediately call their support line and ask them what happened, they make excuses about a mistake or tech issue then promise they can cancel/reverse the refund and reprocess the redelivery as before. This was the second lie. Next day I write in to their chat (as I want written records by this point) and they tell me that I was given a “$10 credit” (this was in fact just the same $10 off $35 order coupon their app gave me when I placed the original order) and they resolved the issue with the refund. I show them screenshots of the email where I was confirmed to be getting a redelivery, they tell me that since the refund was given they have no other options.

I ask why I was told the refund could be cancelled so the redelivery could happen, they say that rep was “mistaken.” I tell them this now will tie up over $600 in my account to reorder, since the refund will take so long to process, and mention how hard that is on us financially after they messed up the original order (and hence why we did NOT ask for a refund in the first place). They try to give me another $10 off coupon (which they again label a “credit” in an attempt to sound generous) and claim I now have “$20 in credit” as their apology. I explain I now have to place 2 orders (my redelivery and a new order) to even use those, and that their app already gave me that promo, and this is a useless gesture. Why would I want to place more orders with them after this experience?? They’re tone deaf. They don’t care and keep referencing a “$20 credit” to show how helpful they are when I can’t even fully use it on the one reorder.

Finally they agree to give me a 1 month free upgrade to Instacart+ to at least save me on the delivery fees with my reorder to correct their mistake. But! I have to wait ANOTHER 24 hours before this will be reflected on my account. I tell them that sucks because if I were to pay for the upgrade it would be immediately available, so what gives? I beg them to expedite the upgrade so I can use it that day, pay them my money again, and just get my groceries (we are COVID quarantined right now so we cannot go shopping ourselves currently and we were in dire need of pantry staples) but I’m told it’s not possible and it will be 24 hours. Lie #3 and we are getting hungrier. Over 24 hours later, next day, my account is still not upgraded. I write in again, I provide all screenshots, they refer to the “generous credits” and literally say they went above and beyond with those, and act like that was the resolution, case closed.

I reiterate I was supposed to get a comped upgrade and now that will take ANOTHER 24 HOURS but the rep is “adding a note to the team” to get this done ASAP. I then ask if that means they are “expediting the upgrade” and the rep says yes. I ask why I was told this was impossible yesterday if they are able to “expedite” it today? They provide a lot of fluff excuses (in horrible grammar that is barely legible sometimes, even when it is clearly a script since different reps will say the same copy/pasted empty platitudes of fake empathy throughout your convo) that answer none of my questions.

I make the rep send me the confirmation about my upgrade via email immediately and ask how I can resolve this if I still don’t have my upgrade in 24 hours (this started on Sunday and it is now Tuesday night). They give me a case # to refer to and ask me to end the chat. Well this was lie #4. I was told in less than 24 hours I’d have my upgrade and I am at 22 hours now and counting since this was promised. I have no faith that I will get any kind of resolution, and this place is an absolute scam these days so I will never use this service again. I have screenshots of every chat conversation in full and I will be very glad to go to court if there is ever a class action lawsuit against this company.

I am furious.

I called to get it... resolved and was told that their policy will not allow for them to get the water back to me without paying all the extras. I asked to speak with a supervisor and waited for a callback. the supervisor would not budge and gave me the same answer. All in all it doesn't make sense to pay for something one day, not get the items, need to go in and reorder the items and pay AGAIN for what I paid for previously on my credit card. I am the Amazon prime member since 2006 and if during this entire period of time I had issues, they were ALWAYS! solved via customer service either in chat or on the phone.

On Instacart, if you received an expired product, they refund you to your Instacart account and if you want to use your own money, you have to post a new order same day. So, your refund works only same day. Seriously??? The Instacart looks to me in the way it works like a one, big, legitimate scam. I tried a free membership with Chase credit card - nothing helped to get a better service. I canceled everything with them and will never use it again. Unfortunately, a couple of my favorite groceries that hold a good quality products directly from farmers, are a bit far away to drive. But I better drive than spoil my nerves with Instacart. If you look for the quality service, the only one is Amazon. Amazon Fresh has a not-super-great variety and the prices are little higher, but if you got any expired product or something was missing, you get an immediate refund.

I've shopped through Costco Same-Day Delivery since the pandemic began and it uses the Instacart service for delivery. The shoppers purchase expired/molded food, wrong items, and sometimes replaced item without updating the order, so over the years I've made many complaints for refund or partial refund depending on the issue. Due to their system's standard, I made too many complaints and requests for refund and now puts my account on audit and refuses to make a refund when I make a complaint.

On my recent issues, I'm sending emails to their customer service with photos for proof. My most recent issue is the shopper replaced my item with something else of lesser value, but did not update the system on item purchased. I email customer support with photo and only asked for partial refund of the price difference, but they refuse because I make too many complaints. So they can make mistakes on their end with bad shoppers, yet you bear the cost. I regret renewing my Costco membership because Instacart does not take responsibility for the shoppers' mistakes and puts the stress and cost on the customers.

They can be better if they make shoppers take photo proof of items purchased and items delivered, instead of just a single photo from afar to proof it was delivered to the door (sometimes the wrong door), they won't need us to provide proof and doubt their customer's integrity. Furthermore they have shoppers to make deliveries, but no option to pickup items for return/refund, instead they just refund you the item cost entirely (instacart being lazy), and then doubt your integrity.

If my order wasn't wrong or missing items, they delivered my order to the wrong address. As soon as I decided to give them another chance, they let me down yet again. Of course they delivered my order to the wrong address and yes I had the correct address listed for my order. I really needed my grocery items because me, my husband, and son were under the weather. I am usually patient, understanding that everyone has an off day, but when several random shoppers/delivery persons mess up like this, there is a problem with their system or processes. It is just ridiculous at this point and I will NEVER use this company again. I'll send a **-head to the store before I use this company again.

It's one thing to go into the Instacart process knowing that you will be paying a service fee and delivery charge unless you subscribe. Today, I accidentally got the receipt for my groceries. I don't know if they negotiate better pricing but they are marking up the groceries in addition to the fees. The actual receipt from the store was $194.38 and their base charge to me before fees and tips was $208.34 --- a mark up of 9%. Since tips and fees are based on this "total", they are making even more money. I'm not opposed for them making money in the fees department but I am opposed for them marking up the groceries without telling me or hiding it in some fine print. Shame on Instacart.

It is now 10:00 pm and I have still not received my order. The time slot keeps being pushed further and further back. First it was changed to 8:00 pm, then 8:45 pm, then 9:15 pm, then 10:15 pm, then 10:45 pm, then 11:15 pm, then 11:45 pm. And it says my order is still not even being shopped. I have called 6 times, been hung up on once when I asked for a supervisor, and then lied to and told a supervisor would call me back by 8:40 pm and they never did. I then chatted in and the first chat rep canceled my order without my permission and then replaced the order and said they assigned a shopper to it. But as soon as the chat ended, there was no shopper and the delivery time was pushed back even further.

During that chat I was then told that supervisors don’t return calls. Now it is saying my order won’t be delivered until 12:00 am. I then chatted in again to their customer service and had to ask repeatedly for a supervisor before actually being connected to one. He then tried to tell me I requested a refund and to have my order cancelled, which I did not and had screenshots of the previous chat to prove that and sent those to him. At the same time I was waiting on hold again to speak to a supervisor and finally got one who decided to give me a credit for the trouble and inconvenience I have been dealing with, but still said they could not find a shopper after almost 5 hours of my waiting.

I live in a suburban area, not out in the middle of nowhere and the store is less than 10 minutes from my house. If I wasn’t sick I would have gone to the store myself, but because I am sick and trying to recuperate I have been trying to not leave the house if I don’t need to. And unfortunately I need to take my medicine with food and the groceries I ordered are necessary to make dinner, so it is now after 10:00 pm and I have yet to receive my order and have not been able to eat or take my medicine that I needed to take by 8:00 pm.

Did not ask for any specific credit card so I assumed it was the one I was going to use since I haven't used the service in long time. After hesitation I sent the documents afterwards. I was extremely reluctant to even try this, but after 2.5 years of the pandemic, my wife and I finally both got COVID, despite being totally up to date with our booster vaccinations. So we are isolating for several days and running out of basic groceries. This entire time, we've managed to avoid having groceries picked up by a service and delivered to us. I wanted to keep it that way. I knew exactly why I didn't want to do this, and here is exactly why this service is lame:

We picked the grocery store where we always shop, so that we would be familiar with the staple items we always get and were running out of. But the online platform doesn't have exactly everything, and it seems to route you towards the items that are the worst value - meaning the items with the highest cost per unit. So I am quite sure that they have my normal 1lb container of organic baby spinach, BUT it won't show up on the website, so I picked a 1lb container of organic Spring Mix. Well, guess what?

They did a substitution - My wife was handling the transaction even though I am the one that does all the cooking so I was totally removed from this - They started contacting her to substitute these smaller units which again, are lower "value per unit" items = higher cost for less product. I promised myself I was not going to order any produce, but I got sucked into it because we've been sick for days and needing to eat some nice leafy green veggies. Big mistake - The way they substitute stuff is a total scam. It's like you picked the dumbest person you know and sent them shopping for you, and you picked someone who doesn't like you or care about protecting your dollars, so they are just subbing in all this stupid crap. Completely pissed me off. Never again. Don't waste your money.

Because both my wife and I are mobility impaired and also because of COVID, INSTACART became a necessity but we continually have had bad experiences with its delivery service and have to rely on them for our grocery shopping. Insta Instacart needs to make significant improvements before I would consider recommending it to a friend or even consider continuing to use it once the COVID pandemic is over. WHY? Because INSTACART treats its customers like criminals. At times, shoppers charge me for items that were not delivered or made unauthorized substitutions which I cannot use and have no way of storing so I request a refund. I cannot return them to the store. If I could go to the store to return an item, I wouldn’t need to use Instacart.

Other times, shoppers make mistakes or don’t follow instructions and I lodge a complaint with Instagram. If I don’t complain, then Instacart has no way of knowing how its shoppers are doing and cannot either correct them or fire them. So after about five months, I get this message:

“We work hard to address order issues and want to ensure all of our shoppers and customers comply with our Community Guidelines. Since we received a high number of order issue reports from your Instacart account, we can’t approve your refund, credit, or redelivery request at this time.

To appeal your recent order issue, please email orderappeals@instacart.com, and we’ll be happy to help.

    Best,

    The Instacart Team “

Reading the Community Guidelines, there is nothing in them that gives me a clue as to why I am in violation of any Guideline. When I appeal, I ask what Guideline I am violating. I never get an answer. That is because Instacart cannot cite to me any Guideline I am violating. But what is really galling is that by refusing to reimburse me for the cost of items that I was charged for but never received, Instacart is stealing my money. But Instacart trusts me enough to offer me a Credit Card. I think that is a good idea so Instacart sends me one and I use it. Then in the middle of an order, Instacart tells me I can’t use the Credit Card. That is one hell of a way to treat a customer that does almost $2,000 of business with Instacart each month.

Eventually, we filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and in response, Instacart refunded our money but it still will not tell us how we violated their Community Guidelines. Moreover, Instacart still refuses to acknowledge any complaint we make, always citing that we violated its Community Guidelines but never telling us how we did so. For example, yesterday we ordered SUGAR-FREE grapefruit cups and specified a refund, if unavailable. we even gave instructions that it had to be SUGAR-FREE. Instead, the Shopper delivered grapefruit in light syrup. We complained but Instacart ignored our complaint saying that we were violating its Community Guidelines.

It far too time-consuming just to place an order. Customers have to go through so much irrelevant items to find what they want. For example, the Search brings up many items that are not relevant to the search. When the customer searches for a specific item, the search results almost always place irrelevant items first. For example, the search is for “No fat cheese.” The result shows seven items that are either low-fat or regular cheese before the first “no fat cheese is displayed. Then the customer gets a ‘People also Purchased” line which does not include any cheeses and appears to end the search but below that are listed many cheeses, none of the “no fat.” This just wastes customers time.

Once the customer has completed the order, the customer must go through each item in the shopping cart to ensure that the Instacart shopper (hereinafter “shopper”) knows whether or not to make substitutions for items that are not in stock, and if so, the appropriate substitution. What makes it tedious is that the shopping cart list does not stay open once the customer has made a choice. In other words, the customer must open up the shopping list for each item and scroll down to it.

Then when the customer clicks on “Edit Instructions” all too often, it does not open but when it does open, frequently instead of seeing “Your preferences” and “Special instructions”, the customer will see a line of “Picked for you” and “Related Items” (which are not in any way related) so that the customer thinks that they are not allowed to make an alternate selection or enter any special instructions. Your preferences and Special instructions should always be at the top of the page rather than at the bottom.

In many cases, the buyer has previously stated either “Refund” or selected a substitute and that information is retained by Instacart so that the next time, the Buyer selects that item for a new shopping list, that information is already included. The problem is all too often, it is not. Then there are those annoying liquor ads that pop up while you are shopping and what you must wade through.

Additionally, if the program has chosen a replacement item in case the selected item is not in stock, and the customer wants to explore other possible items, if the customer clicks on “Other options...” the customer will see a list of other items but the item that the program originally selected as a possible substitution will not be listed, thus depriving the customer of the option of selecting that item if the customer does not find any of the items listed as a better choice.

Another beef I have to pick with Instacart is that it does not allow customers to choose which branch store the customer prefers to use. There are four branch grocery markets within a mile of my house, three of which are five minutes away. I know what items each market carries and some of these items are not carried in other branch markets.

Usually, the shopper does not shop in two of my local markets (the other two are the only branch markets within ten miles) and therefore I am deprived of some items I would normally be able to purchase. I asked an Instacart customer service rep about this and I was given the song and dance that the grocery chains choose which stores can participate, but when I checked with Ralphs and Vons, I was told that was not the case and that the shoppers can shop at any branch market they want to. Therefore, it would behoove Instacart to allow customers to choose the branch market they want the shopping to be done.

Shoppers all too often do not read the instructions given to them by the customers both as to individual items or for delivery. And it takes forever to check out. As soon as the Buyer starts to check out, up pops a page listing all kinds of items, and the Buyer is asked if they want to add to the Shopping Cart. This happens over and over during the Checkout process lengthening the time taken to check out. Far too many pages appear before the Buyer can finally check out and see the order.

On the plus side, Instacart gives us a wide variety of stores to shop in although it also lists stores that do not service your area. But Instacart brags about how much time I save is a joke. With a few exceptions, I could go to a store, do my shopping, and come home and put the groceries away in less time than it takes to place an order on Instacart. One of the problems with having Instacart do your shopping is that the stores often list items as available and it turns out, that by the time your shopper does the shopping, the items you ordered are no longer available.

Not temperature controlled as promised and trying to call customer device and explain your issues with your order is like calling hell. You can’t underhand them due to accents and they just say the same thing over and over and they never resolve the issue! I’ve given them so many chances and every time, it’s just terrible.

Three times in a row their slick personal "shoppers" have demonstrated they either are not very intelligent or they are just plain lazy or both. Once again today, October 7, 2022 I ordered 7 items from Costco. That's right: ONLY SEVEN. YET, this ** moron managed to deliver the order with one "IN STOCK" item at Costco, MISSING. Now most of us know a 10-11 year old (maybe younger) can easily find all 7 of my ordered items in a store like Costco. In fact, trained monkeys could do the same (no offense to monkeys.) But this guy didn't find my Pizzas that were on sale and which Costco says "MANY in stock." TO make matters worse I actually sent a chat message to this guy asking "Hoping you found all my items" to which he replied "Yes Sir". This is before he had left store. I am closing my account and doing what I have done for 40 years -> going into the store and shopping myself.

What service does Instacart provide if they apparently hire bottom-of-the-barrel people who cannot perform their job like a trained monkey or a child could easily do?! A: NO SERVICE! HOW HARD can it be to shop in a store and buy things?! Yet these shoppers somehow continue to make inexcusable mistakes (as I have experienced several times; AND judging for many reviews here and elsewhere: many other customers have experienced!). Instacart makes things worse since: IF you need items for a recipe or dinner gathering etc. Instacart and their ** shoppers not buying said items, make life more difficult. The premise of Instacart is to help and make a customer's life easier. HOW DO THEY STAY IN BUSINESS. DO NO USE THIS COMPANY.

So, I ordered eggs, and of course, some eggs came cracked. The good news, they refund without question. The bad news, it’s Instacart credit and not an actual refund. So, sadly, I’ll never get that money back. However, what really got to me was getting charged almost 12 dollars for a pack of wings, when the price in store was 4.68 dollars!?! Finally, I accidentally ordered a wrong item and I can’t seem to return it. At least the delivery arrived on time(ish)? Bleep you Instacart. May your stocks crash burn.

I've tried over and over again to have a successful experience with Instacart. I have had three good shoppers out of about 15. I never got my orders or they brought the wrong orders (someone else's) and I was charged. The appeals place that never responded for a week after numerous complaints. Finally I disputed the charge with my credit card co. And they removed the charge. Other times, many times, food was out of packaging, delivery late and food spoiled.

For the higher prices we are paying and all the fees, tips, etc. You would think the shoppers they employ would be responsible people. Not the case. They don't bother to read instructions either. I tried curbside pick-up. Twice it said order was ready for pick-up but when I got there after waiting for 31 minutes, they said they couldn't find my order. This happened twice. I find Walmart's delivery to be much more reliable and no food damage. Less Expensive too. I do not want to use Instacart again!!!

First let me start by saying I love 99.5% of my Instacart shoppers. I've never had a problem with their customer service until today. I inquired to Instacart customer service about my delivery because it hadn't arrived in the delivery window. It was the customer service rep who then told me the shopper had a small incident. I ask what type of incident, she stated the shopper was ill. I questioned her - you are having an "ill shopper" shop for me? She immediately changed it to "oh she fell down and had to tend to her cuts". I then asked if my groceries were kept cold while she was tending to her cuts. Customer Service replied with "yes". I said, are you absolutely sure? She came back with, "Well "no" I don't know for sure."

When my shopper finally does arrive (over an hour later than expected) she delivered groceries from Aldi not Target where I had ordered them from. She dropped off a totally different order. Customer service would not put the order back in the queue for delivery today. It would be 48 hours for re-delivery. I opted for a refund. This one incident made me lose total faith in Instacart's customer service. (I've been an Instacart customer since 2017). I did speak with another customer service agent who kindly refunded my money (oh my refund, will take 5-10 days though). If I wanted them to redeliver groceries - 48 hours. I do think it's time for a new delivery service.

I sent my driver's license and debit card to prove my ID and they still locked my account, keeping my money. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and The State Attorney General against these practices. When drivers are not tipped, they report customers as revenge. Some drivers have taken my deals for themselves if one item was left on sale and refused to deliver or call back.

A few days ago I used Instacart to have groceries shopped and delivered. The person who shopped for me was in contact with me via text message, and she repeatedly put items in my order that I didn't want, as substitutions for items out of stock. When I asked her to please ask me first, she accused me of being rude. When she delivered my order, she left it outside in the rain instead of bringing them to my apartment as instructed previously (I am disabled and can't carry bags upstairs).

I called the store, and was advised to contact Instacart directly. The customer service rep I spoke to said there was nothing they could do when I asked for a delivery person to come and carry my groceries to my door. I asked to talk to their supervisor and they refused my request. I hung up and called the store again, who told me they sent the delivery person back to my address again. That person never showed up, and finally a neighbor carried my groceries inside for me. Instacart should be ashamed of how they treat the disabled.

Please please please use this only when you're desperate. They don't care about you at all. I've been using this for a year, I'm very lenient when people make mistakes. But I have reached my limit... Instacart if you see this, you need better Resolution Policy, and better customer service line.

    - Missing items ALL the times, I repeat, missing at least 1 item in EVERY single order, all they can do is refund, and act like I am greedy when I asked for another solution. We don't need the money back, we need our grocery.

    - Customer service is EXTREMELY robotic, they will give you a refund and a half ** apology, they don't care how on earth you will be able to get the missing items on your own, (there are service fees and shipping fees if you place another order for the missing items), the lady in the chat told me that the only solution is ME placing another order after I explained to her multiple times of how that was not fair and impossible (I have no car during the day, and service fee + shipping fee is over $6 each time for me and I only need the 1-2 items that they missed).

    - Lazy shoppers, they will never spend time to ask for your item, though you know the store has it in stock all the times, they would just replace with a half ** one, or refund the money. (Like why did I use the service for you to only buy half of the things I needed for a recipe?)

I put $200 in credits because I've never been fazed by any service before, and I trusted them. They couldn't be that bad right? That was what I thought. Worst decision of my life!

Instacart would refund almost automatically, until one day they suddenly blocked my account from refunds, seemingly because of a high demand for refunds from my side. I tried to escalate it, but nothing changed. In the beginning Instacart was semi ok. I have had shoppers throw my order into my patio chair. Because of two young girls. I ask, "Why did you wanna work for Instacart?" They replied "It would be a great adventure." If these two. Threw an order @ a angry person. Bad idea. Shoppers mixing Bleach in with food items. The personal shopper claimed that he did not bag the grocery. I had to explain to him that you don't place chemicals with food items. Don't place meat with other items. Shoppers that stop and visit with people while it's hot outside. When having cold items. Your mistake. Not mine.

I will say I have had quite a few excellent shoppers. Not anymore. Their prices are too high. Compared to in store prices. Believe me I can do the math. They jack the prices up. Example. Order total: 125.50 Service fee, Heavy fee, Bag fee, Tip fee. After all of these extra fees they add on. In reality you would pay around 65 to 70 dollars in store. I will never use Instacart again. Let add this. They do a temporary hold that's higher. Than the original amount of the order. Hoping that you will let the shopper replace items that are out of stock. To be on the safe side. Place in the instructions. Which they rarely READ. Type in No replacement. They can't even read letter or know what numbers are. So long. I would not recommend unless you want the Asian company to push the American's button. They rant. Never.

Upon checking the account I realized too that the Instacart shopper not only didn’t deliver my order, but he also ordered multiple items that cost me $210.05 instead of $26. The guy never showed up so my order was never delivered. I called customer service and they process a re-delivery and a refund. I used to love Instacart. So I renewed my annual membership for $99. The moment I did, they raised their service fee from a very reasonable $2-3 per $100 order, up to $10+ per $100 order. That is on top of higher prices than you can get in the store yourself, the annual fee, and the driver tip. So I requested a refund of my $99 service fee. This sent me on an odyssey of evasion, deception, and/or OUTRIGHT LIES from customer service agents via chat or phone, to string me along while not actually addressing my concern about the high fees, until it was too late for the "system" to allow them to give me a full refund on my membership.

I almost felt sorry for the service agent trying to avoid my direct, repeated question, "Did Instacart raise the service fees in the last few months or not? Yes or no?" They must train them on how to give misleading answers like "we did not receive notice of an increase in fees; fees can vary based on a number of factors, blah blah blah" and how to go off in another evasive direction when I followed up with "if you did not receive notice, does that mean there was no fee increase, yes or no?" The agents less skillful in evasion slipped into lying that I will not be seeing $10 service fees in the future, when in fact, that is exactly what I saw on the very next order. In the end, I wasted hours of my time, while getting only a partial refund of my $99. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH INSTACART. I've placed about eight orders with Instacart so my experience is with seven different shoppers, one shopped twice for me. I live in a part of the country where Fry's Food is a primary store, which is part of the Kroger family of stores. Prior to using Instacart, I shopped at the store these shoppers go to for a few years. For some reason, the shoppers I've had shop for me aren't very skilled at buying groceries. I have to sit by my phone from the time they start until the time they've finished, making what I thought would be a straightforward process pretty stressful.

I send pre shopping message for certain items to be sure the replacement items they select are what I want. One shopper took it upon herself to purchase another far more expensive product without notifying me, twice. I called customer service and had her removed as a shopper for me. Another shopper told me he was busy. When I asked him not to buy a product he'd selected he didn't respond, it was clear he was texting his friends so I called customer service, he told the representative that he was busy, the representative apologized and said that is not the standard for their shoppers. They pulled him from shopping for me and sent a another shopper to finish my shopping. My order included a regular jar of mayonnaise, two shoppers bought different sized containers that didn't work for me but I was stuck with them. One shopper put a couple of very perishable items on the center of the deck after everything else had been brought in, nobody saw these items, both so they stay in the sun for hours and had to be tossed out.

Instacart is the only shopping/delivery service for my area so I have to rely on them for help. I don't know how Instacart selects the shoppers that work for them, but from my experiences they could do much better vetting the people that do the shopping. To address the reviews that remarked about the excess funds withheld by Instacart, yes they do put a hold on more funds from your account than the actual cost of the groceries/service however the cost of the food may be more than the estimate so that's understandable. And in my experience when I called about the woman who purchased a far more expensive product, Instacart reimbursed the balance to me.

I will also add that the first agent I spoke to in Instacart's SeniorCare div. said that because of my age, I had requested the membership and click on the 14-day trial thereby generating the membership. I contend that this SeniorCare dept. is their way of isolating seniors because we are most vulnerable. They had given me various days of when my refund would be returned to my credit card account. Nothing! I have since contacted The Federal Trade Commission and GA Legal and had the credit card company place a hold on this payment. Next, I will be contacting The Better Business Bureau and AARP!

When the pandemic first came about Instacart was a wonderful service use. Unfortunately now they are not meeting the mark. They have so many hidden fees, such as if you order a heavy item (24pk water) it's additional $3 fee, that's more than the cost of the water lol. If you add just 1 item to an existing order you submitted it's an additional $4 fee and they do not tell you beforehand that these are additional fees. They also place a ridiculous pre-authorization hold on your bank card, in which in my experiences lately I've have to call multiple times to have fees refunded to me because I didn't receive my full refund after I received my order. The delivery fees are absolutely insane and the shoppers have poor communication. Just make time to do your own in store shopping because this has become a hassle and I do NOT recommend this service to anyone.

I signed up for Instacart a year ago, and the people that they sent here were always late to begin with; then one night, this old guy came to my door, with my groceries and he started yelling at me saying that I didn’t live in a house, but in apartment complex. He added that if he knew, he wouldn’t bring the groceries to my apartment. I told him that I didn’t want him here either. Then, next time I tried to do my shopping, this man, who insulted me in my own home, in the middle of the night, had already put a complaint on me and they blocked my account, and now I can’t not even shop online in the stores that I regularly shop, because I have been blocked.

I am an old lady who takes her business very seriously, and this “Instacart” company has damage my reputation. Also, they are very, very discriminatory towards Hispanic community, I am a 62 year old Hispanic/American who suffers from multiple spinal cord issues and this old ** man intimidated me in my own home. I didn’t put a complaint on him, because I was afraid of him coming back and take revenge, but he put a complaint first, and company blocked my account for all of the supermarkets around me. Now I shop at Amazon, and they are awesome! These people are very respectful and professionals; always on time!

Awful business practice, unprofessional. I know for a fact that I opted to be reminded before my Instacart membership renewed. A day or two ago Instacart charged my membership to a credit card that it did not have the authority to. Naturally, I checked my account settings and found that my notifications for my subscription renewal was turned off. Instacart is a complete scam. There's always "missing items", but in fact one time I cancelled my order and went down to the store I ordered from, and lo and behold the items were in the store.

The wait time is extremely inaccurate, you pay for an express fee but it still takes the time of a regular order, and countless times I've placed an order that is advertised as "delivery in 2 hours" only for Instacart to switch it to tomorrow morning a few minutes after and then saying "oh you have to wait 5 business days to get your refund." Huh??? I paid 10 minutes ago, exactly how are they unable to immediately give it back? Unreliable company that I will never trust again, and I will actively tell people I know about my experience and advise against purchasing anything from. I wouldn't associate with this company again even if I had two broken arms.

This company is horrendous. First off, I pay a yearly subscription for their service, I also get charged extra fees when I make a weekly food order of $100+. You would think they would treat a loyal customer better. I have an issue each and every time I place an order. Whether someone delivers to the wrong address then refuses to refund me or I received damaged or mold food. I always request refunds, never get them! So essentially they are stealing my money because the food I receive is either wrong, damaged or inedible, yet they say "you make too many complaints" so your request is denied for a refund.

I only use them to shop at Wegmans-not only must the shoppers not pay attention to mold or expiration days, but Wegmans then says they can't refund me that Instacart has to, then Instacart refuses to refund me and tells me to contact appeals dept to show proof of my issue. Well I do and I get no resolution! When I use the app to make request, nothing. When I online chat with a person, nothing. When I email, nothing. When I call, they tell me they can't do anything and I have to email the appeals dept and show picture proof. Well, I always do...They never even email back!

This last time is by far the worst. I received leaking chicken with an expiration date of 6 days prior to my delivery. It was leaking onto my other produce. I also received sausages covered in mold! COVERED! These are health hazards. Yet Instacart does not care. They say I made too many complaints that my account is locked and they cannot refund me even with poor of mold or broken eggs or missing items. You name an issue and it happens weekly. This last delivery was by far the worst. These items are expensive, how is it my fault what I was given!? I am now having to dispute charges with my credit card just to get the money back for items that are inedible. I hate this company!!!!

The groceries never arrived, so I called customer service and they told me that since I have submitted so many complaints with this company (if that doesn’t explain enough), my account was now locked and they could not refund my money.

After calling Kroger's (where I had them get the groceries), they said that instacart when buying the groceries did get the discount; however, they did not get the take it off my bill they gave me. They also charged me for merchandise I did not get because the store was out of it and I did not get any substitutes. Watch out because they are frauding customers everywhere and if you are not paying attention you are paying too much. BEWARE!!!! Since I have COVID, I ordered Instacart for basics, as well as an at-home COVID test. The shopper did not communicate with me while shopping. When the delivery arrived, one item was missing and an item that I did not order was present. As well, without explanation, the COVID test was simply ignored by the shopper when it was out-of-stock while replacements were potentially available. The shopper did not respond to my message about the mistakes. While submitting my complaint to customer service via the app, my question could not effectively be answered. Live, over-the-phone customer service was also ineffective.

My question is this: Since I cannot leave my home to personally buy the items that the shopper did not deliver, I will need to reorder the items, pay all associated fees and tips, along with the cost of the items, so why doesn't Instacart offer to pay associated shopping and delivery fees, along with refunding the original cost of the items? The burden becomes the client's while the cause of the burden is the company's. Only refunding the cost of the missing purchases only rectifies part of the misdeed. A consumer should not assume the financial responsibility for a company's error.

The customer service representative delivered a robotic-like response that impersonally and unapologetically mimicked the automatic responses offered by the app's customer service messaging services: Instacart does not refund delivery fees nor tips. Courtesies are not offered to customers of Instacart, so customers risk time and money when using this service; meanwhile, Instacart capitalizes in all key areas of a seemingly customer-focused business.

My experience has been horrible. I have used Instacart weekly since 2019 and have seen the business model and service go downhill over the years. I was even a former Instacart shopper on and off for a year and loved the company. However, over time, I started experiencing missing items, cold items not in coolers that had to be thrown out due to being room temperature or expired items. Instacart was good to give me a refund. But, my account was unfairly put on 'restriction' and they no longer would give any kind or refund of expired, warm dairy items (from sitting in delivery drivers' back seats not as coolers as is promise) and missing (shopping for multiple orders and items/bags ending up getting swapped).

This is just wrong! In 3 years I placed 64 orders. The experience started going downhill after I paid for the 'membership fee' that allows for free delivery but then they started adding a very high @$13 service fee to every order. As a shopper I knew we were not supposed to put the customer's receipt into the bag(s). The 3 times I had the actual receipt I noticed the food was marked up quite a bit. So...I ended up paying way more for food, a high service fee for every order even though I paid an annual free delivery fee, I had missing, expired, warm dairy items and NO REFUNDS.

The app even says..."your items are temperature controlled and on the way"...I would meet the drivers outside of my gated complex and watch them take the bags out of the trunk or back seat, they did not use coolers or take any care whatsoever with a person's groceries. Instacart makes promises they do not keep. And charging for a delivery membership but then tacking on a high service fee? That's a scam. Between everything my orders were usually $30 more than going to the grocery store or doing curb side pick up. I took a risk and continued to order for the convenience but it's ridiculous to order from a company that has zero customer service, no guarantees of anything and keeps your money for items not received.

Shoppers wants more tips and take multiple orders making it hard to keep the orders straight and if you were the last delivery of 3 good luck receiving cold items. I had a horrible experience and will never order from this company again. This company did not help me in any way, they took my money and trust and did not live up to their promises. I am beyond frustrated with Instacart at the moment, and many moments before. Instacart needs to figure out a better way for their 'shoppers' to make sure they have all the items that the customer requests, and the correct substitutes if any. I always seem to be missing items that the shopper says that they got and shopped for. I'm certainly charged for the items that I didn't receive. If this keeps happening then they are surely not double checking making sure that everything is in the van or car when they deliver to the customer. I need Instacart's Corporate office to address this problem that keeps occurring. Have a meeting and fix it guys!!!

I decided to use Instacart because my schedule was packed for the week. I asked for a specific item -no substitutions- and this morning, without a text, email, or knock on the door- received 72 cans of Fancy Feast cat food that my cats won't eat! When I called them they refused to credit my credit card and pick up the items that I informed them were still at the front door (I left the items there as I cannot use them). Instead they gave me a 'credit' for their business! I told them I would never use them again. So I have disputed the charge with Amex, and cancelled patients in order to return the items to the grocery store. Do not use this service- the only recourse we as customers have is to continue to share with others our experience and hope it runs them out of business.

As a disabled individual, this option would be awesome, but the company does not make corrections for shopper misuse of credit cards. We have had several instances where shoppers charged us for items we did not receive. We have also had instances when shoppers have purchased replacement items without our approval or authorization.

In my most recent experience, the shopper replaced items we specifically listed we wanted a refund for if they were out of stock. Instead, the shopper purchased a replacement item that was completely different than what we originally requested. We contacted Instacart and this is the second time they refused to give us a refund when their shopper spent our money without our authorization. We have pictures and videos of our order, requests for refunds on all items that were out of stock, and we will dispute it with our credit card company since IC is refusing to refund our money. In addition, I believe they hide the list of preferences on each order as when you place your order, you can not see your preferences for the items you request refunds on if they are out of stock. Instacart should know that unauthorized charges on someone's credit card is a criminal offense and stealing from a disabled person holds a higher criminal offense and penalty.

I decided to try Instacart because I was short on time. I regret this decision in every way. They were offering a free delivery promotion, but what they don't tell you is there is ALSO a service fee, a tax on the service fee, a checkout bag fee (which might be only NY), fuel surcharge, container fee (also might by NY only) and a tip (which I support because it's not the shopper's fault and they deserve that). Additionally, they charge you MORE per item than if you just go to the supermarket yourself. I'm talking $.50 to $1.00 more on every single item.

If you call and complain about it, they tell you in the fine print it says "some items may cost more" or some nonsense like that. But it's not "some items". It's EVERY item. I compared the instacart receipt to the paper receipt my shopper showed me. They won't change it. So if you are able bodied, do yourself a favor, especially wtih the price of groceries. Go to the store. It will be cheaper. IF you are dependent on this service, then you're getting double screwed because if you are on a fixed income, you are paying tons of fees. Find a neighbor or family friend to get your food for you. Instacart is a scam and I'll never use them again.

I continued using the service for quick and easy access to Costco and Wegmans, two great supermarkets outside of NYC, which makes it very convenient for me. That said, nearly every delivery something went wrong. Spoiled food or wrong item. Even walking the shoppers through their shopping on chat. I’d order bananas and get plantains. The fruit is receive 90% of the time was rotten. Cracked eggs. Order a steak and get a different cut. This is basic stuff you’d expect someone to follow directions.

Instacart was good about making the corrective refunds here and there. Eventually they just ban you. There’s no option to upload images or send spoiled or wrong items back. After several customer support issues, they blacklist your account. They won’t respond. You get the runaround on the phone to contact order appeals. Order appeals doesn’t get back to you. This company is a bunch of thieves stealing people's money and exploiting both delivery people and the end customer. I’ve since cancelled and started using other services.

I've been a user of Instacart for the past two and half years and paid annually for their services. Today was the end of this service for good! While traveling out of state I decided to place an order for groceries since I'd be away for some time. Added a new address to my account and paid with a different credit card that I normally have on file. Lo and behold - they lock my account due to suspicious activity because I could not upload the 2nd form payment which was Apple Pay. How am I to take a screenshot of that! I received a support email from a QUINN (fake name presumably) saying my account was under review. It's now been under review for 2 days. How long does it take for someone to review and release my account?! 2nd email was sent asking for an update, crickets, nothing.

Finally, I decided to call them and clicked on their Customer Support button that took me to another page reading these exact words: "You need to be logged in to view this page." NOW how in God's name is one to get support for a locked account?! Can Instacart answer this? Finally gave in and called their Senior Support number listed and selected option 2 for non-senior support. WTF! I mean come on now Instacart - not making it easy are you? Smh. Finally got ahold of an agent who provided no support whatsoever in making the matter better. Unfortunately, there is nothing much he can do but wait for the folks reviewing to finish reviewing my account to unlock it. Just WOW! That's great! I pay a yearly fee to use this crappy platform. I do not recommend anyone to waste their time with Instacart. This review doesn't even include all the mishaps that occurred with the shoppers and the app, just too many. Worthless customer service! I have been using Instacart for the past 2 years and while I understood I was probably paying a little up charge for items on top of the fees that are transparent, I was appalled when I asked the shopper to bring me a paper receipt with my last shopping experience. Every item is up charged some by $3 to $4 dollars. The one that absolutely amazed me was a charge of $8.59 for 1 cucumber that the grocery store had only charged them .79 cents for.

After reaching out to their customer service via email and getting the same auto response that the retailer sets the price, I called and spoke to a representative that informed me after checking that was indeed their price for "a" cucumber from this store, but he would reimburse me if I was uncomfortable with that! Seriously?

I have cancelled my account and will no longer use their service, but please buyer beware and check the premium this company is charging. I don't mind paying a fee for a service but it needs to be transparent. An article I read on the owner of Instacart detailed how he has become a billionaire over the past 2 years. I’m currently recovering from an illness and can’t drive or shop so using Instacart was more necessity than convenience. This was my first time using Instacart and unfortunately I didn’t really understand how it worked. In any case, I ordered 22 items including such average grocery items as bread, pickles, oil, steak etc. Of the 22 items I ordered 9 were on sale. And of the 22 items I ordered I also received just 9, but not one that had been on sale was apparently available. And even though I asked for items not to be substituted or replaced if unavailable - the shopper did anyway.

For example - RibEye steak was on sale for $7.99 and I ordered 2-1/2lbs or a $20.00 piece. What I received was $11.00 worth of some type of paper thin steak that was $16.99lb. It literally wouldn’t have been enough “steak” to make even 1/2 of a steak sandwich and I paid $20.00 for it. Also, to top it off, the sell by was the day before. So, the shopper not only made a totally inaccurate substitution against my wishes but purchased expired meat. I paid $19.99 but Instacart would only refund $11. and change.

Although, most the items I ordered weren’t delivered I would have been at least 1/2 way satisfied if what I did receive was right but it wasn’t. And what frustrates me the most is I have no ability to exchange the incorrect items. 2 things I can recommend if you decide to use Instacart - make sure you no problem going to make exchanges because some will be incorrect. To me this defeats the purpose of using the service in the 1st place but in reading other reviews it seems errors are the norm. So, just expect to have to correct your items if you use Instacart. The other is I would only use them if you have *absolutely* no other options. I not only wasted $62.00 but it was a very frustrating experience.

I work in a business that is very customer service oriented and when we make a mistake we actually fix it. If I’m really busy I have to do without the item, place a $35 minimum order to avoid delivery charges or make a trip to the store, which I still don’t have time for. If an item is undelivered, there needs to be a solution besides just a refund. Either the delivery person should make it right and see that the customer gets the item(s) or the delivery charge should be waived so that the customer can order the item and have it delivered at no additional cost. I used to use it to have a LOT of groceries delivered weekly, but the inventory was always so bad and unreliable, that there WAS ALWAYS a substitution so I just decided to use it when absolutely necessary. I received the email they would be charging my card for the renewal so I made sure that the main card is the correct one on my account.

Today I get an email that they charged the WRONG card. Jeez. So I start a chat (which isn't easy to find for sure). We confirmed (eventually after a long wait) that they would refund the card they had charged. A bit later I got an email that they credited THE OTHER CARD. What?? They charged the wrong card then REFUNDED the wrong card??? What? So I chatted AGAIN and waited AGAIN for a very long time. The rep said s/he was going to transfer me to a "special team" to take care of this for me. After way too long (man this is getting old) s/he finally came back and said the team is not available and I'll have to try again another time. SERIOUSLY?

I mean, it's bad enough that they brought me zucchini instead of cucumber when I ordered it (who doesn't know the difference, especially when they are marked in the store??), but I let that go and still tipped the driver. But payment stuff is something you should NEVER get wrong. Never ever get payment stuff wrong and if you do, make it right IMMEDIATELY. I guess I'll "have to check back in later" to see if this ever gets properly resolved. Who knows, maybe next time they'll refund my neighbor's credit card lol!
