I have been on SSI for 2 years now. Nothing has changed since my lawyer got my benefits for me. My family has put me thru court proceedings for almost a year. They were caught lying and after they lost two weeks after, my payee gets a letter stating to come in and bring me also. The worker started acting like we were liars. We brought in the taxes like she asked and included was a promissory note between me and my soon-to-be ex-husband. She said it was too convenient to have brought that in. If wanting the taxes, of course, you are going to bring in the note when your are paying a loan back for a lawyer.

The tax return went straight into his account. She asked me questions about my income. I told her I get what SSI gives me and that's it. She goes on to accuse me again of lying. She then fills out answers to questions that later on my payee noticed after asking for a copy since she DID not even have us look over in the office. My payee asked for another appointment. We go in and correct what the worker falsely put down. She goes on to tell us about her and her ex-husband which I really didn't care about.

We asked if I was under investigation since my payee figured out what the form was. I do not live with legal spouse, I do not publicly state we are together and we do not live together. She stated we DID and there was proof. My payee sent in letter from soon to be ex-spouse stating he DID not live with me. A statement from his father whom lived with neighbors, letters and court papers showing I've been harassed by family members which one is a police officer whom I think falsely accused me.

My payee DID her part, sent in letters, lease rent receipts. Nothing in my claim has changed except for being falsely accused of fraud. The worker has treated me like a guilty person from the start of this. When asked today what's the accusation due to one second, it's about tax return then was told it's about whom I live with. When asked her which is it, her reply was "a little bit of everything and I am making my decision today".

SS workers are suppose to help us especially when someone lies on us. We shouldn't be treated like criminals over a vengeful family. I'm waiting for the letter which I am sure she terminated my benefits now. I won't have my medicine for PTSD borderline personality and manic depressive bipolar and kidney issues and I have no money for a lawyer to fight for me in the appeal.

My husband applied for a social security number with his immigrant visa. Social Security and USCIS told us that he would receive that number within three weeks of arrival. It has been THREE MONTHS. We have both called Social Security who have been rude and refuse to tell us the status of this. They are forcing us to go into the office. I work full time - 8 to 5. He doesn't have a car and cares for our 1-year-old daughter. We should not have to go into the office for something that they were supposed to do two months ago. It is clearly their mistake and I have to take time off of work and literally pay for this mistake. Not to mention how rude and unhelpful these people were. Hey, Social Security workers, you work for ME. I am a taxpayer. I PAY YOUR SALARIES. My congressional representatives will hear about this, as will everyone that I can possibly complain to. God knows, that as a taxpayer, I pay you enough to Get It Together.

Good luck on trying to get your money direct deposited on the card. I have been fighting with this company for over 8 months now. I have gone to the social security office and the VA to get all my money put on the card, but no one at Direct Express has ever been able to help me, and of course the Social Security office and the VA won't help me either. What's the sense of having a cash card through this company if you have to pull teeth to have your money put on it? Save yourself the headache and go to someone else (anyone else) to receive a cash card. THIS COMPANY IS A FRICKIN WASTE OF TIME.

I went in today early to try to get my name corrected on my Medicare card. I was told my name was too long and I would need a marriage license to make it any different! All I wanted was my full name on my Medicare card as it appears on my Social; Security card. Then, the rep says to me I could just write check with my full name (all my names)! Medicare representative told me my name could be corrected/done but not through Medicare, through Social Security. I left there in a state of shock and very upset. I was disrespected and not made to feel I was valuable as a human being even.

At the June the hearing, bound and gagged as a witness, because I was her representative. The judge badgered my daughter with questions with such force that she began to ball up in the chair as if she wanted to hide in shell. My daughter is being evaluated for autism. Through years of documented medical and educational neglect it's as if Social Security office never reviewed the over 400 pages of medical and education records which all but screams "disability" is real and she is in so need of help. Of course I'm her mother so I feel like a real idiot. Maybe that's because I keep trusting the people who are the "educated" experts.

The attorney I consulted with told me after reviewing the file that the case was "not objectionable". How can social security ask for expert consults and then not follow their own reports. After the hearing, my daughter was so shaken up she vomited her lunch all over herself and the car. I'm just trying to get some help for my daughter before she decides it's better to be a suicidal drug addict than the person she is. And I do not wonder why mental ill people strike out in what ends up as tragic violent encounters. I've worked 20 years and retired from the govt feeding money into SSI. How is my child is not entitled to get the help she needs?

I have been receiving benefits for a year or so from SS. After obtaining an Atty to obtain the badly needed assistance, I soon after fired a doctor for refusing to help me and in retaliation, she deemed me Incompetent for which she knew that I was/am highly competent from a previous evaluation. Now after obtaining the report, I was told that it would not do any good to take it to the SS office. I have been denied help with several medical Issues that need immediate attention! I am not unfit and there is no reason that I should have to suffer 24/7 because of corrupt people! I should be my own payee again and the good LORD has a plan for these people. I would guess that they will someday be ignored as I have/am!

I applied for Social Security Disability in 2009 after an injury in 2008 that I received on the job. I filed only after I exhausted all efforts for relief and help through workman's compensation. Of course I got denied the first time as I was only stating that my disability was my cervical spine and my left shoulder. I fell and twisted my neck the wrong way and shoved everything in my left shoulder in the wrong direction. The result of that fall was I had to under go a cervical fusion of C5 through C7 in my neck and I will lose use of my left arm as there is no fix for it.

Well that case got denied all the way up to federal and then the attorney I had said "we don't do federal you will need to find one that will". So with that being said I went to another attorney and started all over as he would not touch the case unless he did it from start to finish. And to NO surprise I was denied again. My attorney appealed it as usual. We went to the appeals hearing in Sept of 2012, and was denied again. Seems to be the story of my life at this point. Filed another appeal and a briefing was told that it would take 12 to 14 months for the hearing to come up. Well today I received a letter from the Appeals court in New Falls, Virginia and I live in Pennsylvania. I got NO hearing and was flat out denied AGAIN.

However things have changed greatly health wise for me. I ended up getting the cervical fusion, as a result of that surgery ended up with a paralyzed right vocal cord and nerve damage to my right arm now. Nothing can be done for either. In March of 2013 I was diagnosed with Spinal bifida in my lower back. In Nov. of 2013 I found out I have a birth defect in my heart from having a preventive cat done due to family history and my age. As a result of that I found out I have a birth defect that was never caught, I have a split aorta and that resulted in a stent being put into my heart and my cardiologists telling me not to have a heart attack as I have a slim chance of living through it. I also had my gall bladder removed two weeks later, which I know has no bearing on disability.

I am sooooo angry at the government. My family doctor says NO for me going to back to work, says my body won't withstand the pain and the amount of meds to even take the edge off so I can work would make it impossible for me to do any job as it will make me drowsy. I have trouble standing, sitting and walking, I'm in pain every day all day between my neck, arms and back and legs and yet social security can't seem to visualize the big picture. My whole life has changed since I fell at work in 2008 and it doesn't seem to matter.

On top of all the things physically I suffer from asthma and migraines. I've also been diagnosed with depression because of all of this. I have no income or anything, can't get any help and I don't know what to do, I feel cheated, abused, neglected by my government and I feel this isn't fair. It angers me to know that someone can walk into the admin office and say they are depressed and bi-polar and SSA says oh here is your disability and it's been approved and then you have actual people like myself that have legitimate disabilities and they get denied time after time. Now I am being told to start over again. What can I do? I can't afford to wait another 2 or 3 years for this.

My son has been on SSI since 7 years old. I had no issues regarding his child support until 2011. For the last 4 years I have seen 7 social workers asking for his Child Support History breakdown. Every update evaluation I submit the documents. The only months they ask for are the months with 31days, calendar year (January, March, May, July, August, October, and December). The calendar year has been of existence since 46 BC. Social Security has send me a letter stating I have an over payment because of the months with 31days. My son is 17 years old, you would have thought they would resolve this matter years ago.

I have visited the center at least 3 times every time it is on the months mention above. I spoke with several case workers and requested a reconciliation and won. On December 12, 2013, I saw a caseworker and he explained that all the case workers I saw never processed the paper work and past the buck to someone else. He said he made the correction and I should not receive any more letters in the mail. On March 2014, I received a letter in the mail saying I owe SSI $400-plus for over payments due to the 31day in a month. The SSI is telling me to pay or they will reduce my son’s check to $475. This is ridiculous.

I called, personally went to the center and 4 years later they still have not corrected the mistake. My next move is to write a complaint and request a court day to sue and an investigation to the SSI center to see how many other parents they are penalizing and making them pay for an adjustment the center refuses to change. I want to make this quick as possible, because the wounds are still very fresh, painful and full of salt. I have been railroad by the Social Security Administration for 4 years and counting now. I am getting sicker just like everyone else has mentioned here. I was straight across the board mistreated unjustly by the first judge I had... and best yet, his so called report of findings after my hearing... were about 85 percent wrong. Oh yes per the first part of the report, the committee found my disabilities of severe and valid nature - in other words I meet all their games. But funny how after all this was said, the judge came along and gave me a totally different disability/illness... that he said was treated and under control for quite some time - so therefore he stated that the illness was not even to be classified as a disability!!!!

I have never been diagnosed or treated for the illness he stated. There was only one note in my entire file from old - that stated the doctor was checking me for Thyroid/Hyperthyroidism - only due to some of the other health problems that I was having. Lo and behold, I was negative... and at that she repeated this thyroid test for the next 6 months just to make sure and totally rule it out! Well you know - it was ruled out, never had it, never treated for it! Well to sum this up, the judge not only stated this information totally wrong, but he continued to bash, slander and label myself and others involved in my care - as not credible. Talk about humiliated by such mistakes... How about lies!

Did he have how many files all mixed up with how many different people? It was sickening... and the best part is that on top of that, I also ended up with lousy attorneys. So now... I am fighting still - and still being thrown away like yesterday's garbage. He violated my rights, slandered me and others... and that's okay! Well it seems to be okay in their eyes... but we all know it's not! I'm stuck too... but I know I will find the right way I hope. Because thanks to this bad judge - had has literally ruined my life, caused me to lose everything and I am one step now from homeless. I mean really - this, to me, is manslaughter!

I have been experiencing problems with the local Social Security Office for more years than I care to remember. I have been brought to tears by some of the responses and the lack of urgency or lack of responsibility that it seems that you encounter. I most recently called in regards to a situation that I was told had been taken care of in February, only to be told that it was not. I was advised that although I was sure of the conversation they were not and that the office manager was to be out for the entirety of the week. I had an urgent matter that needed to be addressed immediately. To wait for another week would cause me more problems. Why is it that no one was able to figure out what was going on? Could it be so far fetched that the documents were misplaced since yet again there was no documentation of not only this call but the documents that I turned in? Oh no, one could never conceive of the fact that The great Social Security Administration would ever make an error; although this is not the first time that there has been no documentation of something that has happened and been done by this office.

The representative that I last spoke with was armed with so much partial information that she rattled it off to me and I am sure was extremely pride of the fact that she "handled" me and would be able to sit back with her chest cocked proudly while others would sit around and continue to explain how I had spoken to "everyone" and they saw the complaint and had gone through it and got it as if I were wrong to voice my opinion in regards to mistreatment or ill treatment. The disdain and mannerism of which she gave me all of the information that she had been armed with during our 56 minute hold/tongue lashing reduced me to tears as I knew that this would be the outcome yet again.

I was then advised that I would be transferred back to the same manager that I had spoken with earlier and placed on hold yet again. Well I guess he was done with me for as he said earlier he was going to call me back yesterday and he did. He left the office at 4:00 p.m and called me back at 3:58, he called me though. I am not even sure where to go from here. This last conversation has been so draining and has left me in a deeper hole than when I started out. Something has got to be done about the level of service and treatment that one receives when dealing with the kinds of issues. There has to be a way to get service without feeling like you have been in battle..

The SSA LACKS OBJECTIVITY/ACCOUNTABILITY/OVERSIGHT. The new Commissioner, Carolyn Colvin is lip syncing a worn out tune, promising that Fully Disabled Vets will get Soc Sec. Fast-Track Processing. (see Veterans Today, 19 MAR 2014 Top Ten Stories #7 and comment by Scott **). This promise was made in Oct 2010. Why is this 100% "Service-Connected" (1987) DISABLED American Veteran still fighting the SSA for ssdi benefits when they determined disability in 1991? Because the SSA LACKS OBJECTIVITY / ACCOUNTABILITY / OVERSIGHT!

The ALJ Failed to follow established law, and, on remand, refused to comply with the directive: REMOVE the mechanical grid. Instead, the ALJ attempted to REINFORCE the grid using a deceptive practice (MMPI) contrary to published experts who report that the MMPI is "INAPPROPRIATE" for people suffering with non-exertional impairments, like me. I have repeatedly asked Debra Bice, Chief ALJ, ODAR for a Fair & Impartial Decision Review of my old case. She passed the buck after much delay to the Kansas City, MO office where she claimed was the appropriate office. They passed the buck to the Peoria, IL ODAR office where it has been languishing since last year.

Where is the "EXPEDITED PROCESSING"??? I have written to Carolyn Colvin & Debra Bice to no avail. ALJ David Thompson of the Peoria ODAR office wrote to say that he will order the SSA file but attempted to get a DELAY PASS by stating that he needed my VA records. His questionable rush to this decision gives me pause to question his lack of objectivity. I see this as another delay tactic. I have repeatedly asked for a Fair & Impartial review to CORRECT THE CLEAR & UNMISTAKABLE "ERRORS" in the SSA files. I have sent proof of the VA's 100% Service-Connected" Disability rating and offered to send more info IF they would be specific, but even this is really unnecessary as the "ERRORS" in the SSA case are enough, CLEAR & UNMISTAKABLE.

How can I have any confidence in this new ALJ when he makes pre-mature statements like he has ? Worse" The SSA sent me a letter yesterday stating that IF I want expedited processing, I need to share my retroactive benefits with a lawyer or draft a legal brief proving that I have financial need. It was not signed, but it has the office SSA letterhead. WHERE IS THE OVERSIGHT / ACCOUNTABILITY ? PLEASE SHARE THIS WITH WHOM IT SHOULD CONCERN.

I have been trying to straighten out a problem my husband is having with his Medicare prescription drug costs. Today, I called Soc Security to follow up on the case and see if anything had been resolved yet. The Soc Sec worker I spoke to was positively hateful. I was very taken aback by the rude and condescending attitude she took with me from the very start of our conversation, because the other workers I have spoken to over the last couple of days have been so courteous and pleasant. This woman was very put off with me because she got my call "by accident". She was not supposed to get any more calls as she was going on break in order to go to a "meeting".

I was taking up her time and she missed the "meeting" and she was not happy about it. Every time I tried to speak she said "No! you're not listening to me", and then proceeded to yell over me. Then she accused ME of cutting HER off and told ME to stop yelling at HER. I couldn't ask or say anything without her getting very irritated with me and screaming that I was not listening to her. When I asked her how we were supposed to afford paying for my husband's prescription until the error was fixed, she said it was not her job to help me. When I asked her for her name she said, seething with hate and very condescendingly "My name is Sabrina. I'm with the Philadelphia call center! I told you that at the beginning of the phone call and if you had been listening you would already know my name!" She had me in tears before I hung up.

My husband served in the army for 8 years, worked several other jobs from his ten years and paid in social security until he became disabled. He filed for his Social Security Disability 2 times and they denied him. He receives 100% VA Disability. And because he has been disabled for so long, he is short 4 points to receive his SS Retirement.

So my question to you is, why does he not get the money he paid in back??? If he owed IRS or if it was reversed. They would want their money back. I receive his check in my name, that is why I am contacting you for him. Someone needs to make the SS pay back all those Americans that paid in and can not receive retirement all the money they paid in. Unless that person himself received some kind of SSI themselves. And he did not.

I was awarded total disability in April 2013. My back pay was reduced because of w/c offsets which had ended over a year earlier and my monthly pay was established upon the w/c offset amount. Not only have I been living on 1/3 less each month than I am entitled to, I have yet to receive my full back pay, less the actual months when I was receiving w/c. It is now time to file 2013 taxes and I received a SSA statement INCLUDING the w/c offsets as part of my income! I am in litigation with my self-insured employer and it will not settle until after April 15th assuming that SSA is waiting for my lawsuit to settle before they release my back pay or adjust my monthly amount. So come April 15th, I will either face fines from the IRS because I can't pay taxes on $20,000 that I have never received, or I will be forced to borrow money to pay the taxes so I can loan it the US Treasury.

SSA has placed me in a very bad position. I asked if they could issue me a statement with the unreleased monies not posted as part of my income. They say that they can't do that. Apparently they can't settle this in almost a year's time either despite me providing them with the court records that show that I was denied worker's comp in July 2012. So the bottom line is: I have been living on very little exhausting my savings account since 2012, only to receive SSD in 2013, but only 2/3 of my awarded amount, then I get to pay taxes on money that has been held back for a prolonged period of time. Got to love this governmental system! Do they pay interest on my held-back monies? I am sure it won't cover what I have to pay in interest to "loan" the IRS, or I guess I could just chose jail... 3 meals per day and medical. I do need to have another surgery soon. Maybe jail is my best option...(?)

December I did not receive my check so I went into the local office and they said that on Oct.of 2013 someone requested my check go to my old account. I asked the supervisor who and when she said she did not see what office the change was made. I advised her at that time that I did not come into any office and make that change. Once again I gave her my correct bank information and she rudely said she would put it in the computer and I would have to deal with my bank about the check that went to the old account.

I was sent a letter stating I was underpaid and I would be receiving $3680.00 to be deposited into the bank I had requested. I called my bank and no deposit so I waited a few days and called Social Security back and I found out that the supervisor that was so rude did not do her job. My account information was never changed to my correct account. I went to another office and had a supervisor changed my information and we called my bank and my bank confirmed. I did not have access to the account and the account would be closed. Well January check went to the old bank account and I have called SSA over and over again to get hung up on and now because I stated on the phone I would come into the office to speak to someone rather than get hung up on, they said I made a threat and I'm banned from all SSA offices. My husband was an electrician for over 35 years and yes he was a blue collar worker and enjoyed his job very much. June 30, 2011 6:22 am, 15 min from the job he got into a bad car accident where he was air-lifted to the county trauma center with severe head trauma and severe spinal cord injuries. Although he had insurance though his employer, I could not help but wonder about LTDI through S.S. but I was told by Prudential Ins that was who the employer was with.

The very first call that I received from them I was going to ask but the lady would not let me finish. She said “Look Mrs ** this is how it is going to be, it is our job to research and see where Mr ** would benefit the best and WE made the decision that he will benefit better with us.” At that point I had thought that should be our decision. But in Sept 2013, his LTD through Prudential stopped - 2,800 a month. March 2013, I began to contact Social Security about my husband drawing LTD through them. That is when I seen for my own eyes that the government personnel has no ETHICS/INTEGRITY/MORALS/NOTHING. I was and still am being lied to, sidestepped, hung up on, called names, etc. AND FOR THE RECORD, I KNOW MY CALLS WERE NOT RECORDED.

The first reason I was given was they told me my husband had an on-going pension which was a life-time policy (WHICH WAS THE FIRST LIE). About 3 months later I tried calling back and was told he was too old. The third time I called back I was told no one can draw LTD and S.S. retirement. What part do they not understand HE WAS FORCED INTO RETIRING in 2010? This while on the job his employer told him. He was now old enough to collect his S.S. and work so that was the plan.

And I would like this to go on record. Why in the hell do people as the government make it so hard for a person to get what is owed to them and I mean not trying to get something for free. My husband has well and beyond enough credits that he paid in for over 35 years. THESE people act as if they are writing you a check from their personal accounts. RUDE, I have in the past contacted my congressman (1998) MR BILL THOMAS and let me tell you that man helped me hands on me him and Billy-Jo. I will never as long as I live forget them. Today I did try, I will not list who that was because they did not help me. However, I do hope some congressman reads this. I have been fighting for my SSI since 2008. I have been in front of the same judge 3 times. The reason I have been denied is due to one of the county doctors lying on my paper work. I am blind by the state of Texas. I have so many health problems and I have proven it time and time again to this judge. This judge thinks he is god, he doesn't care what your doctors say. He will tell you he doesn't care what the doctors say and he doesn't believe them. He told me he was giving me 3 weeks to get another eye test done. I had it done within a few days. Before he had received the report he denied me yet again. The hospital that I go to is backing me and this judge is hell bent on making people suffer...

For over 3 years, I have been sick. My first hearing I received an unfavorable decision like a week later. I was treated so bad I decided to file a complaint. My case was remanded back to court and approximately 2 years later, I had a new hearing. My new hearing was 6/2013. I received my second unfavorable decision on 12/3/2013.

    1. My case was based more on what the doctors said that disability sent me to and not my medical records. I have doctors that are specialists and had 3 primary physicians and 7 therapists that have a ton of medical records. They sent me to their doctors and did not give them any medical records other than a random report from the Emergency Room.

    2. Inaccurate information from the disability doctors was used in making their decision. My mental evaluation doctor said I used my Social Security card as ID and that I was driving and not licensed. NOT TRUE!! Then she stated I was tested by her and THAT NEVER HAPPENED. I asked the judge for her to give them proof of my testing or to not use her evaluation in my hearing. NOTHING WAS DONE. I recently filed a complaint against her with the State Psychologist. Another one of their doctors wrote down my weight as 10 pounds lighter than I was. I wish that was true. I've gained weight because of my difficulty with fumes/breathing which makes it difficult to exercise or get around.

    3. I was asked about previous therapy and stated I was seen by this one office for 4 months. They have all my records from 1/2010 thru 2012 in which I was still in therapy but they use the information I gave them to make it look like I wasn't seeking help other than for the 4 months I mentioned. Therefore, I must not be that sick!!! A recent trip to E/R revealed I have shrinkage of brain cells.

    4. I feel they need to go back and look at the millions of people that have been approved who are not really sick and make them pay those benefits back.

    5. I feel that because I have one more year of my meager retirement money from a company I worked for as an employee for 4 1/2 years is being used against me. I feel they think, "Well she has income for another year so let's deny her and see what she does"!! I paid into this system for 40 years and is sick and the treatment I get from them makes me wish I could move to another country!!

    6. One day, one of your family members will get sick and yes, you may also get sick. We shouldn't have to fight 3-5 years for what is rightfully ours.

    7. I feel that if someone is applying for disability, why don't you use their doctors' reports rather than send us to their doctors who I personally think feels as though they owe them to report negatively. They must be stopped from hurting us and causing us more pain and suffering!!

I have a mental handicap and have been receiving SSI about ten years. I'm 56 years old and I live with my Mother. My mother has the beginning stages of Alzheimer's disease and she's 82 years old. I have watched over her for many years. She has some savings money of her own and the last year I deposited $10,000 of her money in my direct deposit SSI account because her 60-year old home needed to be repaired. When I went to the SSI office yesterday, the lady wanted to know how much my two vehicles were worth. Both cars almost 20 years old and she came up they were worth $4000. She then wanted me to get my bank statement for the year.

I should not have put my mom's money in my account to pay the contractors to fix my mother's home but too late now. SSI is my only income I receive, nothing else so I'm sure I will be living under a bridge soon after they see there is still about $4,000 dollars in my personal account that's my mom's but the money is my mom's, not mine. I hope someone could help me out here with some advice. I worked most of my life and if I could work anymore, I would but unfortunately, I can't.

On Oct. 1,2013 I got a call from SSA for my sons (SSI) PERC interview as he has been approved for SSI as of Sep. 23,2013. As of today 11/11/2013 he has not gotten nothing. Here is my story. Ok, interview went well. Lady she needed his Gerber Grow up plan since I stated he had one. Ok dropped it off that same day. At the office they told me, "Expect to receive his first check, back pay and award letter soon since his grow up plan has no cash value." Waited a week I decided to give them a call. Lady on phone was very rude and told me no one could had given me the information I just gave her because his claim still been process and hung up the phone. I called right back and another rep. told me that he had been approved as of 9/23 but still was been process and to give it another week ok.

I had to go to SSA office to take care of some stuff so I ask if they could give me stat. of my son's application. Ms. ** called me back and told me that I needed to go ASAP to the office that was handling my son's case because as of 10/18 it had been closed out, meaning no activity. I left that office and drove 45 min. to our local office. The person that has his case could not see us. So another rep. came out and told me that there was a problem with my SS# and that it was holding up the case. I was a victim of Identity theft and fraud back in 2008 in 2009. SSA granted me a new SS#. And because of this and me not matching what is on file, my son will not be able to get his SSI payment until everything is taken care of. They had to send out the case to be verified by credit reporting agency. HUH??? Why is that if they were the ones that gave me a new social she told me give it another week?

Ok. Called back on 10/25 lady on phone told me she could not give me no information on my son since I was not his rep. "Payee WHAT??? Am his mother." Got the phone hung up on me again. Called back on 10/29 lady on phone told me they had just gotten word from credit report and they were sending claim out for payment and to give it a few day should be deposited in to bank account by 11/1. Ok waiting game again. On Nov 4 I gave them a call again to see what had happened. They told me they still have not been able to add me as a rep payee and that what the other person had told me was wrong. She stated and I quote, "EVERYTHING LOOK GOOD ON OUR END IF YOU DON'T RECEIVE ANYTHING BY THE 9TH OF NOVEMBER GIVE US A CALL BUT EVERYTHING SHOULD BE FINE." HUH? Didn't she just tell me they weren't able to add me as a rep. payee?

My mother always told me not to count my eggs before they hatch but I am in great need. Electric company threatening to shut me off, is getting cold and my kids are in need of coats and boots. No I do not get help from their father some of us aren't so lucky/blessed all he cares about is his new wife and his picture perfect family when he got 7 other kids running around. I know poor judgement on my part but hey love is blind. But back to SSA they are just playing games they do not keep good notes on the accounts. If people wouldn't need it we wouldn't be trying to get help. I get upset because one of the reps that I talk to made a very rude remark about me. She told me instead of calling I waste her time and tie her up. "Why I didn't get a job and not try to live of my child?" Believe me if I could work I would work first of all.

I am a single mother of four wonderful handsome boys all of which have medical needs. My 2 year old has central hearing loss, does not talk and is fully dependable of me. He gets speech therapy twice a week, physical therapy once a week. My 6 year old had Autism, ADHD, Asthma, speech delays. My 9 year twins one has been in and out of the hospital with breathing problems due to his chronic asthma was in ICU for over a week, suffers from seizures, has missed 33 school days due to this. My other 9 year old twin has seizures, diabetes and ADHD. How am I supposed to work with all my kids been sick out of 5 days a week?

I get call about 3 days to come pick up one of the 3 in school due to their chronic illness. I myself suffer from diabetes, HBP, high cholesterol, depression, anxiety, back problems, severe sleep apnea and low oxygen desaturation. I have to manage a total of 33 medications a day between my boys and myself and she has the audacity to tell me to go get a job. Some of us do really need the help. I hope every one here gets what they deserve and are able to take care of everything. Godspeed.

I am taking this time out of my busy and frustrating day to comment on my experience, my interpretations, and in my view, the treatment, abuse, mistreatment and the method used by your local Social Security Administration Office in Toledo Ohio located on Four Seagate to humiliate and harass me and my family. I receive SSI for my son who experiences Sickle-Cell Anemia. He, age 17, a 12th grade High School Student, works part-time (State Law) at McDonald's for approx. 2 or 3 days a week and receives minimum wage. I say all of this because in mid-August 2013, I personally went in for a face-to-face interview with 2 Agents explaining my income, his expected income and all aspects of my and his personal information.

During the interview, I informed them that my son had just picked up a part time job at McDonald's and would not be working more than 2 or 3 days and was receiving only minimum wage. I also informed them that he had not received a paycheck as of yet. The Agent, led by her Mentor instructed me to send in a copy of my son's payroll stubs monthly but his benefits amount, and I quote, "will not be affected" mainly and largely due to him being a student and the hours and amount. I agreed to comply with the monthly notices and we concluded our interview. Consequently, no more than a week went by and I received a Re-determination Letter or really novel from Agent Mr. ** (dated 31 August 13) stating that his payments-benefits will be reduced by more than $300.00 starting 10/01/13 because my son made $680.00 that month in income on his new part time job. A job from which he hadn't received 1 single solitary paycheck.

As a matter of fact, on or around 9/08/12, he received his first paycheck of $69.00. It really amazed me and made me feel I had been stabbed in the back by the initial Agents and more so by Mrs. ** & Rep Mr. ** who both bolstered, exaggerated and merely lied about my son's income. With my formal complaint based on mere facts, Agent ** and her Mentor, Agent ** initially, fabricated, dreamed up, and manufactured those numbers. There's no way possible, even by State Law (an underage student) that my son could ever and have ever made that type of money. However, Rep. **, my actual Case Manager should have known my son's income was incorrect, still was allowed to go along with the baseless claim, and go continue to go out of his way to abuse his power simply to inconvenience my family and me should be unacceptable. Rep **, Rep. **, Rep ** and his supervisor Mr. ** at the Toledo Local Office should be held responsible. Nevertheless, it could and will create a financial hardship for all people concerned.

This I am Reporting to the Deputy Commissioner of Operations, Mrs. **, that the Toledo Local Office has a reputation of fostering a very nasty and mean climate of poor customer service. Many staff there are not friendly and very rarely smile. They are very condescending and rude. The 2nd to last Agent (male) I conducted my one on one with I had to threaten to write him and his supervisor up because of his rude nature and disrespectful, connotations and attitude. Sadly but his white male supervisor supported his bad attitude and misconduct. I remember vividly when I decided to write a formal complaint how they both laughed it off and took it lightly.

I received a call from supposedly the supervisor of this office and he again took me for granted and minimized what had happened and how I felt. Most staff I dealt with including the Head Supervisor- Manager in charge, Rep ** and the last male agent I had, need some more extensive training in the areas of race relations - social skills, sensitivity training, customer service training, ethics, and respect. The Rep at the Local call center on 9/11/13 approx. 11:30 am that would not give me his name, nor allow me to speak to a supervisor hung the phone up in my face. He was the Rep who informed me that Mr ** performed my Letter dated 8/31/13. He was also the Rep who made the comment to my daughter who later called back (because he hung the phone up on me) to make progress to speak to a supervisor, who boldly, and hassled my daughter and would not let her call get through either insisting that she was no more than my girlfriend. To assume, make snap judgement, racial profiling and trying to match phone calls is not in his job description I hope. More so it's really none of his business and shouldn't matter. So absurd, unprofessional, chaotic and a waste of taxpayers money!

I along with my family and others I have spoken to in the waiting area and abroad seem to all get the same feeling about the climate, poor professional attitude and conduct of most of the staff and management at this location. Ethics, codes of conduct, respect, giving the customers access to comment on the services that are provided on a daily basis is just not heard of at this site and should be. Maybe that would curve some of the mistreatment and nasty attitudes at this local office. Lastly, on or about 9/11/13, I responded to Mr. ** in writing giving him the documentation the Rep (White Male, wouldn't give his name) on 9/11/12 approx. 11:30 am stated he needed my son's income from his job for the month of August 2013, and a document showing he is enrolled in school. I sent in a printout of his official online pay-stub for McDonald's employees (showing his entire pay for the month of 8/13).

His original pay check stub was lost by McDonald's Mgmt Staff and this was the only thing he could access at the time so that his benefits would not be interrupted 10/1/13. The other document I had sent him was a 2013 SAT Score exhibiting his High School and the date the exam was taken. I sent those documents in the day after I learned what he claimed he had needed. On 9/12/13, he calls me back and states it's not enough. I'm really tired of the mistreatment, abuse and harassment! Could someone please give me a call from the Region and/or Headquarters on all this reckless and unnecessary harassment and mayhem. I just feel based on my son's age, personal information, history and income that the local office has already obtained he should not have ever been hassled, nor his income lowered automatically.

Lastly, this agent in particular, has my son's job information, and access to his school records, if he wants to know that bad, or if it's a part of his responsibility to get it, why doesn't he either call the school and request it, and the same for his job. Don't force me to do their and/or his job. Then you abuse your authority by inconveniencing me, threatening me to reduce his benefits if I don't get you the information that is right there in your lazy face! I don't think that this maneuver, habit, and way to conduct Social Security Business is fair to me or to the taxpayers who pay for his salary... In my view, "They need to just stop being so lazy and abusive to customers". Please respond to me by email or in writing at the address above. Signed, please help and save me!

I am a 73-year-old senior and veteran. In June 2013 the Social Security Administration sent me a demand letter saying they overpaid me $3,900. Get this, fully eight (8) years ago (2005)! And if I don't pay them IN 30 DAYS, they will start withholding my monthly benefit checks. But here's the real clincher: In the introductory paragraph of their letter, they say later in the letter they will explain how they determined I owe them this amount; but guess what, there was no explanation whatsoever in their letter as to how they arrived at this $3,900!

One would think that if they went to the trouble to compute this amount, surely they could attach a copy of their computations to the letter. But no, their attitude is seemingly "you are guilty until you can prove yourself innocent. And by the way, we're not going to give you any of the evidence we have, unless of course you request it, in which case you will have to fill out additional forms, etc, etc."

Interestingly enough, even though I sent them the form they requested, they still took money out of my benefit check. And would you believe it has now been almost 2 months since SSA received their form I sent via certified mail requesting an accounting of how they arrived at the $3,900 - this from people who expect me to cough up the $3,900 in 30 days! I am making this post because I read quite a few other posts like mine from folks who have been treated badly by SSA. If I could give you any advice it would be to conduct all your dealings with SSA only IN WRITING. I learned this the hard way.

Back in 2003 SSA shorted me $4,500. I started by calling them and soon learned that either they just didn't take good notes or didn't care. So I started insisting that everything had to be in writing. And eventually SSA refunded my $4,500, although, believe it or not, it took SSA fully eight (8) years to do so - again, this from the folks who want me to cough up the $3,900 in 30 days!

One other piece of advice: Write your congresspersons, specifically your two senators and the congressional representative for the district you are in. In addition write the President and the head of Social Security. The congresspersons will send you privacy release forms to fill out first before they will do anything, but the White House, at least in my case, got right on the case; the next thing I knew I got a call from the local SSA office saying they were responding to an inquiry from the White House.

Of course I had to tell the SSA rep that I would only communicate with her in writing (by the way, she was totally unprepared when she called, had not even read my letter). Good luck to you in your search for being treated fairly by SSA. Hopefully, they'll get smart and simplify their lives by giving all of us all the facts the first time, rather than leaving us in the dark and requiring these kinds of issues to continue to be dragged out over time. It is no wonder the cost of government has gotten out of hand.

I went to the Social Security Administration office August 21, 2013. The Bronx Card Center at 820 Concourse Village West. IT WAS A NIGHTMARE. Unbelievable. As I entered the office I was directed to fill out an application for whatever I was applying for and then stand on a line and enter my son's social security number into a computer and get a ticket. The security officer was very professional but you automatically got a feeling of being treated like cattle. I was there with my family because I needed to replace my 9 year old son's social security card because I lost it. By the time I received a number I had number B30 and they were up to number 576. When the number goes to 600, the number starts all over with number one.

After sitting there for a period of time, my number finally came up and I went to the window. Again, I was only getting a replacement card because I had lost my son's card so on the application I provided my son social security number. I was called by Ms. ** (I asked her for her first name and she stated they don't give out first names). I gave her all my documentation and my HIP Prime medical card. As I handed her my stuff, she was saying "no this is not enough. Do you have a Benefits card or Medicaid card?" I said "no, I don't have a Benefits card or Medicaid card. I have HIP Prime." She said "this is not enough; I need one ID that shows his name and date of birth." She asked again, "what about Medicaid." I said "Ms. I am not on Welfare. I have HIP Prime, are you serious." She said "what clinic do you take him to?" I said, "his doctor is in the Bronx, and is affiliate with Albert Einstein in Co-op City."

This went on for a while and I asked to speak to her supervisor. I stood at her window waiting for her for about 15 minutes when she returned with a supervisor. The supervisor came back with her and explained that I could only have one ID that has his name and birthday. I explained that I have the new and old HIP Card, and they took the birthday's off of the new card but I gave them the older card with his name and birthday which was within the four year period. I handed them both HIP Prime Cards, Original Birth Certificate, the number of the Social Security Card was on the application, immunization and my 9 yr. was there in person. I showed them their application that stated "Replacement Social Security Card." It states to apply for a replacement card, you must provide one document to prove identity. I gave them all of the above and everything was current and the supervisor ** said, not enough.

I just knew I was being discriminated against because I did not have a BENEFITS CARD OR MEDICAID CARD. I was so shocked. I said this is ludicrous. I even spoke to ** (manager). Who said, I need an official document from my son's doctor. I reminded him that according to the application everything I needed to get a replacement card is present so why am I getting the runaround. He then said we can't accept the documentation. Here is a paper of what you must get from your doctor.

Something has to be done about this unacceptable practice of incompetence. What in the world. I was made to feel like something was wrong with me because I did not have a Benefits Card or Medicaid. If this office is going to run effectively and efficiently something has to be done with management. I was turned away and I had all my documentations and they refused to understand or honor what their application stated. This Social Security office at 820 Concourse Village is the only one in the Bronx. They closed the location on Laconia.

Why was I made to feel like it was a crime to have a job and work? This is a shame and a disgrace to the government agency that oversee this office. Management must be replaced or trained properly. This is very sad.... Who is in charge of monitoring these offices....

I am a retired CPA and my wife is a retired teacher. We started receiving our retirement benefits from Social Security in January of 2013. Since we both were on Parts A & B of Medicare prior to receiving retirement benefits, we were required to remit our Part B Medicare premiums in 2012 (which are now generally $104.90) 3 months in advance. If they weren't paid in advance, Medicare would have cancelled our insurance coverage, so payment in advance was mandatory.

When we started collecting our retirement benefits, we were told that it was also mandatory for Social Security to deduct the monthly Medicare premium from our retirement benefits which are generally paid within the first 2 or 3 weeks of the month subsequent to the month they are paying you for (you receive Jan. benefit in Feb. and Feb. in Mar. and so on). Upon receiving our benefits, we realized that they had deducted Medicare premiums for months which had already been paid for by us directly through checks we remitted. In effect, we had paid two premiums for the same month.

We notified Social Security who informed us that this was an issue that had to be taken up with Medicare. Of course when we called Medicare, they tried to send us back to Social Security insisting this was a matter that we had to take up with their office. By now, I was furious and absolutely refused to get off the phone and call Social Security again and so they "escalated" my case promising me a callback within 48 hrs which was never made. I had to call them again and explain the whole problem to yet another agent who promised another callback.

When I finally spoke to the "escalation" department, they informed me that they did not owe us anything since the payments that they receive from Social Security are credited to my account the month after they are deducted. So, the bottom line is that my wife and I and every other one of the millions of people that have started their Medicare Part B coverage prior to starting their retirement benefits are out of pocket for one month of premiums, generally $104.90.

Since the normal age for starting Medicare coverage is generally 65 and the normal retirement age is generally 66 or 67 depending upon your year of birth, this injustice is being perpetrated on many, many recipients and the Social Security and Medicare agencies are holding millions of dollars of our senior citizens' monies unjustly. Social Security and Medicare are effectively cheating its senior citizens out of one month's Medicare premium indefinitely. This practice is an outrage and should be stopped immediately!

On your website, Stephen of Martinsburg, WV wrote on February 7, 2013 that he had contacted Social Security regarding being locked out of their newly designed website, MySocialSecurity.gov, as a result of errors on his credit report from one of the credit reporting agencies. I was registered on their old website, but apparently all information entered was erased with the new web design. I too was locked out when I attempted to log in and was even given the message they had no record of me at all! When I called both the Federal and local Social Security offices, no one could tell me why it was the new policy that anyone with a problem or special circumstances regarding their credit report would not be able to register. In my case, it was frozen (due to a history of identity theft) for the last 10 years and that has protected me well from any further ID theft since then.

However, the Social Security office chooses to require everyone in my circumstance to have to show up in person at their local office and establish ID again. The problems with such a solution are many and include the fact that my local Social Security office is one hour away and one hour back (two hours just to get there and back) and has very limited hours. Only on certain days is it open all day for 6 hours only (there is no 8-hour office access) and other days it is only for 3 hours, with 2 days of the week, completely closed. Then once you have taken the time to drive there, spend gas and take off from work or whatever else you might have done with your time, you wait some more as staff is very limited too. I have had previous experiences of having to wait for over 1 1/2 hours to just be seen.

With the advent of the internet, fax, emails, phone and other modern conveniences, one would think the government could come up with a more creative solution to establish a person's identity. Even the credit reporting agencies they are relying on for verification of identity only require a faxed or mailed in copy of your driver's license and social security card to verify your identity with them. Also, going in person and establishing your ID still does not guarantee that someone will not hack into your online account. The Social Security Agency is designed to assist the elderly and the disabled primarily. To make one of the essential tools inaccessible due to arcane requirements is shortsighted and not rational.

In 2001-2002, he had been diagnosed with Carcenoid Tumors (an incurable disease) and we had to postpone our wedding to concentrate on his care. In 2003 he discontinued the chemo therapy and was transferred to a hospice. There we got married, joined by our friends and staff. I obtained all the necessary documentation and license in order to get married on April 1, 2003. The next day, on April 2, unfortunately he died. He could have lived longer, but it was unbearable for him. I was under the impression that when you married, it was legal. I want to know if I have hope or not? I will go to the local Prescott social security office to ask for an appeal. I was told if I wanted to appeal, I would need representation. Please help me if you can. Thank you.

I have left messages via other reps in the local office and also direct voice mails. I even left a message for a supervisor to call me back and was told that would happen within 24 hours. One week later and still no phone calls. I was supposed to have received some paperwork back in December and the next installment deposit in January. Neither has occurred and I can't get any answers.

I had a terrible experience with the Social Security's website on 2/6/13, trying to create an online account. I locked out after incorrect address information from Experian; credit was being used in verifying access, requiring me to confirm if I ever lived in a town in Pennsylvania I've never lived in in my life. And when I answered correctly, said it was incorrect, it locked me out completely!

I called SSA for assistance, message said wait time was 10 minutes. After 1/2 hour, an agent answered and waited while I tried to redo creating account. She walked through several questions from personal background to verify who I was before assisting. I was civil in commenting they shouldn't be using credit info for verification, some of what credit companies collect is inaccurate. The agent got audibly mad, said I could go into any SS office and get it, or I needed to contact Experian if it's incorrect to have it corrected, which I told her they shouldn't be using Experian for this in the first place to lock people out of creating an account as they could just correct it now (since they verified who I am using information on my deceased parents over the phone). I asked if they just mail it as done in the past. She then said that they cannot mail it and, "Well, I've told you of options of going into SS office or Experian," then abruptly disconnected.

I was still unable to create an online account, either locked out or site was unavailable at this time. I went into the office on 2/7/13, waiting in line with numerous other people, several of whom business could have been easily handled by mail. I work as a public employee and accept documents routinely by fax, email attachment or US mail that these folks were being required to come into a Social Security office at incredible inconvenience and additional expense which could have been handled by other than requiring office visit!

I did receive excellent service from the individual at the Martinsburg office I dealt with today, having to miss work just to get a copy of a social security earnings statement! Given the massive breaches that have plagued credit reporting agencies and inaccurate information they all too often collect and maintain on individuals, I don't know why this is used as a security source by Social Security.

I sent a direct deposit request form by mail three months ago on behalf of my mother who is disabled. She can't speak English that well. She was still getting checks, so I called the national number to inquire about the status. The representative named Benjamin kindly explained that the paper requests don't get processed usually because they can't identify the sender and that I need to call back with my mom to set it up on the phone. He suggested that I should call the local office in Alexandria, VA to make sure about the status and to find out about being the representative payee, so I won't run into problems when dealing with social security admin on behalf of my mother. He also said every state has different guidelines on how the account should be set up for the SSI payment account. I was surprised how courteous he was because in all my previous experiences with the local social security office, I got cut off and hung up on.

With optimism, I called the local office number 1888-472-2402. Someone came on the line after a 15-minute wait, with a sigh and grumbling, "No. Hello. No. How may I help you?" She was dismissive and not clear on what she was saying. She said to call the national line with my mother. I told her I understand that I need to call back with my mother, but I had other questions. She cut me off telling me she can't tell me anything. I repeatedly told her I don't need her to access my mother's information. I just need to know exactly what I need, how the account should be set up and etc., so I can help set that up for my mom. She got irritated with me and was very rude. I told her that I expect professionalism from her and she ignored me. She didn't give me her name, and when I asked for a supervisor, she sent me to a random mailbox that wasn't set up. So I got hung up.

I just can't believe of all places, social security office reps are so rude and incompetent. I'm fine with hearing "no." I understand that they have their rules and guidelines. But I can't accept them treating me like an annoying bug that needs to be crushed. Please address this issue with the Alexandria Office in Virginia on Edsall road as this was the type of treatment I got every time I called.

On June 24, 2012, I filed for Social Security under my ex-husband's SS. He filed in 2010 and added me as a dependent, but we were divorced and I remarried (he didn't know I was married). By 2012 I received a letter from the SS telling me that I was entitled to a retroactive benefit from 2010. By that time, I was two years separated from my new husband and getting a divorce that was final in June 14, 2012. I went to the office of SS with the letter and the lady filed my case. They sent me a check for $9,512.00. The day the money was at my bank, they called me and told me that I needed to take the check back because I wasn't entitled to it - which I did the same day. I took a cashier's check for the amount and took it to SS office.

Days passed and they didn't tell me anything. I called the office and they told me they had lost the check. When the time passed and I didn't hear from them, I filed a fraud complaint against the office. The following day, they called me and told me I needed to get a second check and cancel the other one, which I did. They received the check on the 9th of October, but didn't put in the computer until the 22nd. So they told me that I wasn't going to receive money until the 22nd of November. Now they say that they had to withhold my money until they investigate if I received SSI for those months, which I didn't receive because they denied it to me.

I filed a new case and they sent the papers to my doctor. He didn't fill the papers, so I didn't receive anything and they are retaining my money. I think this is ridiculous! I live with my daughter who has four children and is not working. She lives with his dad who is on SS. What can I do? I need to move out and don't have any resources whatsoever. To this date, SS hasn't been answering my calls. I need help!

That had paid back all of what I was overpaid. I received a letter saying they were also taking my benefits for August 31st, 2012. I filled out a request for waiver of overpayment (Form SSA-632-F4) and mailed it out on June 27th, but I never heard back. So after a few phone conversations, I went to the office; and they just referred me to another office and told me the claims representation that was handling my waiver request. It has been almost 3 months since then, and I call the claims representative every week. And she just keeps telling me that the payment center has not done it yet and to call back in 7 days or 10 days. I didn't owe any more benefits after they withheld the May and June benefits, and I can't get back what they owe me. It shouldn't take me months to get August benefits back!

I live in Jacksonville, FL. I applied for SSDI & SSI in June 2010 and was denied, no surprise on the first initial denial. I presented my case to a prominent SSD attorney for review to take my case. The attorney said I had a great case, so I hired the firm to help me with the reconsideration stage. I was given specific instructions to go to SSA doctor's appointments on specific dates and times to determine my disabilities. I went to all my appointments and complied with all the instructions of the SSA ADJ and my attorney.

Finally, in July 2012, I was contacted by my local SSA (Bonneval Rd) office in Jacksonville, FL, and was informed I was awarded a fully-favorable decision on my claim. I was grateful for this decision due to my severe disabilities. After the call, I contacted my attorney and asked if they'd heard from SSA. The firm said no. I gave them the good news that my local office had given me. The paralegal in charge of my case said she'd look into it and said she was glad I could finally get the medical attention I need. I waited a week and then called my contact at the local SSA office and after several attempts, I finally got through to her. I asked how my case was going and she said my favorable decision got intercepted by the QRB. Of course, I didn't know what QRB stood for, so I asked and she said it was Quality Review Branch. I asked why I wasn't notified and she said not to worry about it. She went on to say she'd been working there since 2005 and never saw a case get overturned.

I'm confused on why I was called on 7/2/12 (Monday) and was told I was approved. She even calculated what my back pay would be on SSDI, SSI, and what my monthly payments would be and that she'd be releasing my money by 7/6/12 Friday!? She said these things happen. I feel like I've been misled on this. My attorney reassured me that my local SSA office wouldn't have given me a call with favorable results unless they were 100% sure I would be given benefits. Why did it go for review if I'm 100% approved? She didn't have a plausible answer. This is extremely hard to do. Does anyone have any experience with this QRB process? Furthermore, has anyone ever been called with a fully-favorable decision only to find out there's a possibility I might be denied again?

We were told by the hospital that it would take much longer to receive the card if the hospital submitted the paperwork, but that most parents find this to be easier. By January 2012, we still had not received his card, so my husband went to the SS office in Waukegan, IL. He was told that we should have received the card weeks ago and they would submit it again. They said it should take about two weeks for the card to arrive. Two weeks passed and still no card. He gives it about another week before going into the same office again. And again they tell him the card should have arrived already and they will submit it again, but this time they will have it sent to the office in Waukegan instead of to our home.

Another two weeks pass and he goes back into the office. The card has not arrived. This time they tell him not to come back into the office, they will call him when the card comes in. Another month goes by without a call and without the card. Today, he goes back in and the card has been sitting at the office since the beginning of April. These workers were rude and unhelpful. My son is now 8 months old and he is a legal citizen of the United States, as are myself and his father. It should not take 8 months to receive a Social Security card for a newborn. I am utterly disgusted with this office. When I tried to contact someone at the office to check on the status of the card, I was put through to the national line. The national line was no better as they told me I would have to speak to the local office. We were given the run-around too many times. If anyone has information on how I can file a formal complaint, I would greatly appreciate it.

I've been on SSI since I was 7. Recently, through combined years of scattered attempts at holding a job, I was put on SSA as well. At the same time my mom died, who was also on SSI and SSA, I requested survivor’s benefits which took a while but came through. However, during the processing time for getting me on SSA, I had money taken away. Checks just plainly didn't show up and when I called, I got the excuse that there were errors they were working out in another office. When looking for numbers or contact information for offices above the local office, I found nothing.

They finally did get everything sorted out but for whatever reason, even using their direct deposit card, they still couldn't get my SSA on it and for some reason, they sent me two checks on the 3rd from SSA. Fast forward 4 months and all of the sudden, any and all records of my receiving survivor benefits is somehow erased from their system (that's right, they can't even see that they have given me 1000's of dollars) and that I am receiving all that I am due yet. There is a financial cap (somewhere around like $708.00 or so this year) of which I am about 70 dollars under now.

So to recap, someone pushed the “oops button” on the computer and now, there's financial info completely missing. They can't even consolidate checks that come from the exact same place. They can't get their checks direct deposited into their own accounts and apparently no one at the local office can count, couple that with a complete lack of administration above them and you find yourself dealing with an office of Nazi’s with down syndrome. For the love of God, someone fix this place. This is our govt. The same people we blindly follow because they are supposed to be capable of leading us. These people can't even count for God’s sake.

I phoned in to social security administration on March 26, 2012 to update some information regarding my father and to inquire about his monthly income.

After waiting 20 minutes on the first attempt, I got disconnected; no one ever answered my call. I redialed and waited another 30 minutes before an agent (Carmela) took my call. From the very beginning, she rudely cut me off before I would finish my question. As I was telling her my reason for calling and giving her the updated information, she would consistently cut me off and leave me on hold periodically without telling me. So I would find my self asking if she was there, until I would hear the on-hold music.

She would come back to the phone, never answering the last question I asked. Instead, she would go on to the next question in updating my father's address. I asked her again if she found me in the system to represent my father; no answer. When I commented to her on her unbecoming behavior, she cut me off, raising her voice "loudly" to say she was answering my questions. I told her my father was very ill and that a little courtesy and patience would be appreciated. She then yelled at me and was going to hang up on me, while she cut me off again and put me on hold for over 45 minutes, until I finally gave up because I was at work while I was trying to get this done and I needed to return to my job.

My father has been very ill, and having to deal with elderly ill family is not an easy task. But when people who are supposed to be trained to deal with these calls in a professional manner and instead talk to people as they are frustrated and angry at anyone, who calls in for questions or information and is yelled at and mistreated, these employees need to be relieved from their job. I can only imagine what elderly people go through when they phone in for assistance and get someone like Carmela, the employee on the other end of the line. That is plain abuse.

I am requesting an investigation on this recorded phone conversation with Carmela (employee) that day. Furthermore, I would like to file an official complaint against Social Security Administration and its employee (Carmela).

I've had this condition for 12 years, which I've struggled horribly to keep working. The second time I was denied, I personally called Social Security to ask them why I was being denied and I was appalled when they told me and I quote, "Because you're married to a Ford worker and he's responsible for you.”

I have worked 35 years in the state of Ohio and in this country, and the way I see it I cannot be counted as an individual. They are telling me my husband holds the money, the power and the control over my life. I had left my husband in April of 2010 and haven't gotten a dime of support from him while he lives in the comforts of our home, eating steaks and buying beer everyday and he's responsible for me. I'm staying with my mother in a one bedroom trailer. I was forced to leave work in November of 2011 due to the fibromyalgia because I just couldn't keep doing the food service work I've done my whole life. I waited 14 months with no income whatsoever for a court hearing from Social Security just to get denied again. Now, I am forced to wait another year or longer if my lawyer decides to file an appeal with the council. I have 12 years worth of medical behind me for this fibromyalgia and other serious health issues and there should be no way they should deny me.

This is an outrage against humanity--all we go through to try and get this help we so desperately need while being ill with serious medical conditions in which there is about a 3-year wait. I want to take my case before the Ohio Supreme Court or a higher court, if this is possible, because what they are doing is wrong. I have contacted my state reps and whoever else I was able to bring this matter to. Something really needs to be done about the Social Security laws and guidelines. They need to change now. My husband is not responsible for me. I have a Social Security lawyer, but he can only do so much. Please respond to my complaint as soon as possible. Thank you.

I received a native card, with my last social security check, stating in part that I received a 3.6% increase, due to inflation over a three year period (2009-2012). The card said, if I was dissatisfied to write to the SSA. However, there was no address to send it to. Of course, the facts of the case is the federal government claims, that all this time, there has been very little inflation, but this is only true, if you don't buy anything like gasoline, food, and utilities, otherwise, the actual inflation rate is about 30-40%, and this hurts fixed income citizens.

To use inflation to steal from the Americans is really criminal, and of course, what Jefferson was talking about, when he said that if the banks or government is allowed to inflate the money of our country, then, and I quote "our children's children will be orphans in their own country that we fought for". I am a veteran, so I did serve my country directly, and indirectly. I hope this is helping you understand the dire situation recipients of social security are in today in the USA.

However, the clerks at the social security office said that I am not qualified because I committed a felony. Of course, I feel that the monies accumulated for all these working years are going to the Feds and not to me or my beneficiaries. No wonder, some people act crazy and commit terrorist acts against the social security buildings and IRS structures.

We received a letter regarding the deduction for Med D Rx Plan coverage to begin January 1, 2012. We had a question about the dates, December/January, not knowing the distinction that insurance premiums are not a month behind. We have an SS office in our neighborhood, and I decided to wait in person to inquire. Big mistake. I was fine with the 45 minute wait. What went “south” was the unpleasant policies in the office and what ensued. The guard's job is to inform people to sign in and obtain a number and also to keep the peace. This he does by telling people who have a question to sit down and keeping cell phones off. Two staff women were on duty helping the roomful of people. One was considerate and helpful as I watched the goings on. One 'customer' had a very complicated case and was at the window for half an hour. One other young lady had the rest all that while.

When I got my turn, I had her and got the following from our exchange. She wouldn't help me because the letter was addressed to my husband. My question was not generic and she would not look up his account. She would not let me make an appointment for him—he had to do this in person. I was fully prepared for what followed because I had read it on the TV screen. Basically, any form of civil disobedience would be dealt with; your removal and arrest are never allowed in any SS office. I complained, “That's ridiculous,” and banged my hand on the desk. The guard was right on it. I said I'm leaving. I knew he would be escorting me out. The last address I got from the agent was, "I'm done." She refused to speak to me.

I happen to be a nice person and I know these employees deserve respect. Still, the office culture is mean and indifferent. A past experience with agents in the same office but in the “back” is that they were extremely smart, helpful, kindly and knowledgeable. In the front room, they think they are professional when in fact I describe it as a backwater. I got the help I needed on the phone with a return call from SS about 6 p.m. The agent was well- educated, well-informed and very nice. She talked to me without needing my husband and took care of everything in less than 5 minutes. I'm writing this email because I consider it a formal complaint against a really unhelpful and mean experience.

The MVA in Columbia and the MVA in Greenbelt used to be a nightmare. They have been shaken up and are now run much better. All the difference in the world. I want to see the Columbia SS office shaken up. It's nasty and unpleasant. Our taxes are paying all of their salaries and I am a dissatisfied customer. People hate going there. Well, I certainly do.

I filed for disability for my daughter in 2010, she has already been declared disabled by Disability Determinations. I have found the SSA to be biased and cold. My self-employment income was counted as unearned income. My request for reconsideration that the income be counted as self-employment was denied before I was allowed to submit the documents they asked for. The claims rep stated in an email (which I have copies of) to central office "I don't know how to get her to comply because she is not already getting benefits" and "are you saying in the Note sections this would exclude the income?

I find it personally very disturbing that the SSA would exclude such large amounts of income!" when in fact I have proof, the signed document we were both waiting on was not in my hands at the time, because it was being signed and dated by the appropriate parties. My hearing before an ALJ was a joke, switching judges at the last minute this new judge was hostile and didn't even know what the case was about, had read none of the evidence in the file, and did not follow code of conduct expected by such a judge. I have found the SSA system overall to be extremely inefficient and biased. We waste more money on call centers, paperwork, appeals and denials then if we actually granted individuals benefits they deserve.

I filed an application for my disability in 1993, I received benefits. The onset WAD is before age 22. In 2009, SSA mandated I file another application on the DIN, which was denied. Then they asked for my mother's SSN for the Disabled Adult Child (DAC), they denied that one as well. So I filed an appeal on the DAC claim and SSA decided, "No you will file on the DIN." As I investigate, I find my mom's SSN is on the Ticket to Work which has been used since 1993, SSA says they can use my mother's SSN as well. I found that before 1995, SSA and HHS was one body and they had stolen my grandmother's estate and allowed HHS to report my grandmother was incompetent and had no children born or living. This was 1976. And then in 1991, the IRS, while my grandma was OB Medicaid and other welfare, the United States sued grandma for back taxes on her stolen estate. Social Security is a criminal and it will take two committed persons to bring a $570 billion class action for theft and deceit by USA. I'm an enemy as I been told by SSA.

They said I have discrete mental impairment, which I never knew or was treated for they also stopped benefits and medical, which I was being treated for hepatitis C. They have sent police to my house because of complaints saying I'm suicidal and they have place slanderous info in my SSA file. But guess what, I will be victorious by just telling SSA God will resolve this and what you (SSS) is coming to light. This you can rest upon. Also, I filed 17 appeals or reconsideration and never got a hearing, then got one and its riddled with due process violations and other violations systemic in SSA. All victims of SSA stand up and file class actions. If interested in class action suit, contact me if you're an advocate for justice.

Another guy says to bring my passport and re-apply again, but when I went there, the girl says she can't do anything about it since it's already in process.

I need help. I have been fighting with the Social Security office for my disability now for 3 years. I am 52 years old. I have worked for 35 years and need help. I don’t want to get to the point that I’m wheelchair-bound. I have been denied two times in writing and once by a judge. I was injured at work in July of 2007. While off on medical leave I lost my medical insurance. I was having CAT scans and MRIs done, in which I have against my credit because I lost my insurance.

I was told to call all supervisor and they would help me file for my disability. They told me that I didn't have enough medical documents. I had to get a Harris county card. I have had one lumbar laminectomy in the early 1990s. I returned to work in less than 2 weeks. Since in have been going to this clinic I have only gotten worse. I finally filed at the social security office in 2009. Again I have worked for 35 years and never gotten any assistant from the government. I'm asking for this help to return to work. I have a number of illnesses. I have 15 more years to work till I can fully retire. I depend on pain meds to function in my everyday life.

I don't drive while taking this med. I don’t want to have an accident and hurt anyone. While I was injured I was working with elderly patients, I would go to their home and assist them in personal hygiene. I believe that I hurt my back while helping a patient that weighed 300-plus pounds with her bath. I have used all my finances and still fighting for my disability. I also have had some bad experiences with the county clinic that I have been going to. I had a colonoscopy and woke up while the doctor was cutting off polyps. The doctor also left a precancerous polyp there. I had a biopsy of my thyroid which has multiple nodules. They left it there and my father died of throat cancer. I have decided that I'm not going there anymore. This injury has also caused me a lot of family problems and I have to leave my relationship and have no money. I have gone through all my finances and under extreme amount of stress.

I'm getting a lot of run around now, trying to appeal the judge's decision. I had a lawyer that met my lawyer for my review and the judge didn't even have any of my medical records and rescheduled my court date that took 3 months. I went back and didn't know how to answer the questions asked by the judge. Such as when he asked can I do my housework; the answer was yes, but it takes me all day. Can I shop? Yes, but I pay the sackers to carry my groceries to my truck and pay the boy across the street to unload them for me and my daughter puts them up. I look at people that are getting their disability and their able to get a job, but they are just sucking up welfare and not trying to do anything to get a job.

This isn't my case. I have done all I was required to and now they're telling me I will have to wait an additional time. I don't have to time to wait. I think that this just isn't fair. I contacted Congressman Gene Greene’s office who referred me to the Pasadena office. Mr. **. I need all my benefits. My SSI, my disability and my back pay. I need this to get out of this abusive situation that I'm in. I have exhausted all my finances and I'm dead broke. I now have to pay taxes on my 401-k that I had to use to live on. I need my Medicaid so I can get the surgeries needed to return to work. And if at all possible, some type of housing that would help me move out. If denied again, I want a letter stating that the government is aware that I will be driving while taking my pain med and muscle relaxers and my antidepressants. So if an accident happens while driving or at work, if I become wheelchair-bound because of my back injuries, the government will take responsibility for this also.

This has caused a great deal of stress. And now I'm told that it could take an additional 90 to 120 days to get another court date. I feel that I should not have to start all over again. I have done what was required of me. I believe that they are just trying to get by without paying back pay.

I asked for a reconsideration. I called the SSA to complain, asked questions, asked for help and explained my situation. I don't know if the woman felt sorry for me or not, but she told me if I re-apply I would be approved for my disability benefits.

So, I re-applied and guess what? I was awarded. I couldn't believe it. Nothing in my medical chart changed from the year I applied in 1992 to 2000 when I was awarded. Except for my mental pain and thought. I was at my end.

The stress along was enough to kill. Ten years of fighting for benefits almost cost me my life. Then I'm told that if I re-apply...I would get it! I still can't believe this happen. I suffered, my daughter suffered on a massive scale June 1993-2001. I was only paid one year and a half back pay.

But they can't find my money, and they're making no efforts to do so.

I would like an attorney (I can't afford a money down) to sue them for my due money, lawyer costs, and as much extra that I can get for the hassle and ignorance that they've shown me. Any takers, I have all the proof I need and it's open and shut case. Easy money. I rely on that refund to take care of my family.

I have applied for SSDI and SSI. It has been over two years now. I was injured at work twice in two yrs, leaving me with chronic pain, daily stress headaches, migraines at least two times a week, I cannot sleep due to my arms locking and back pain, I cry constantly, I have no social life, I cry every time I see people and I am angry all the time. I lost my marriage of 20 yrs for lack of sexual and physical contact and my moods and my depression and inability to even bath or cook and clean. I have severe asthma and am currently on oxygen nightly for severe sleep apnea. I have mental depression and suicidal thoughts. I am on over 200mg of morphine, several mood and depression meds, and a about 14 others with severe side effects. I was denied SS twice and forced to get an attorney over a year ago.

The Dr. that the SS sent me to, spent a total of 4 minutes with me, had me walk across the room and touch my toes and then told them, I was faking as he told me he was late getting hay for his horses. The shrink they sent me too, told me I was bi polar and severely depressed but yet I was still denied. I had to move from my husband to get medical care and lost my home, car, credit, life insurance, and health from the stress of no income. I was able to get unemployment for a bit of the time I have been waiting, since being denied SSI, I had no choice but to attempt to find work or die or go homeless, but never once even given a chance to interview.

As the time has gone, by my health has basically left me bed ridden 90 percent of the time. I cannot get a decent sleep of more than one or two hours. I am dysfunctional from the pain and other meds. I am so stressed from not being able to pay bills on my lousy 140 a week UE, and my attorney of over a year never even requested records until three weeks prior to trial. At that point, I had records still not available and was given 16 days, which my attorney failed to accomplish. By the way, I got 90 percent of the record because they waited too long to request prior to court. So I sit here, two months after court and find just now that they still have not gotten records. I called on the 30th of May, 8 days before deadline by judge and told them to let me know if they did not get them in two days. My therapist said they were sent and since I heard nothing, I thought they were.

So now I sit here, almost three years later, I have nothing left to pay bills with, my UE ran out in June, and my sons 22 yr old friend just told me he got his SSI after two months of filing. I am so upset. First of all the people processing are not medically trained so how do they get away with any decision matters. Second, there is no way I can hold a job. I know I have to try if I want to survive, but I know even if I took one it would not last, I cannot get out of bed every day and the depression and mood and anger has me just thinking of dying daily. But I lost my life insurance so I can't even do that for someone has to take care of my disabled adult son.

I don't know why SSI has not been sued for pure negligence. Having unqualified people make life and death decisions seems like a very serious matter. When over 68 percent of all claims are approved at court level, it seems that is enough proof that the people are not doing the jobs they are paid for or even worse highly unqualified. I want my life back, I want my home, my car, my life insurance, my family, I deserved this. And because some "state" employed who is not qualified to make the decisions effecting millions of lives and in addition or a Federal program seems gross negligence.

I want to start a class action suit against the social security administration. I want compensation for all I have lost due to the inability to make an educated and trained decision. They should be accountable for the wrongful and blatantly negligent decisions they have made. Oh and here is a kicker, because I was on workers comp, they are saying if I do get a settlement this will be deducted. First of all, I or my employers pay workers comp, it is a state insurance program and completely separate from SSI, so how is a federal program, which I pay into and a state insurance I also pay into, even allowed to be in the same consideration.

Then they are giving me grief about filing unemployment, which my understanding is not illegal to file for UE and SSI. I understand that there is a contradiction but to be honest, I was denied over two years ago. I had no choice but to attempt to find work even if I could not do said work for maybe more than a day I had to try, I had no choice. If I am denied SSI, I will have to continue to look for work to the best of my ability. No difference. I would not have had to file UE if they would have done their jobs and qualified me. How do all of my sons young friends get SSI no problem, never working a day in their lives and many of us who have worked decades are denied over and over. My mom was diagnosed with terminal stage four lung cancer, died being denied, but a 22 yr old with ADHD is getting it within two months of app.

Whats wrong with this pic. Lost everything, life insurance, home, car, credit, have had bad checks, being sued for unpaid bills, haven't been able to see any of my grand children ever, my health is worse than ever from stress, my depression is suicidal, my relationship with mate and children I isolated myself and am completely alone. I have no social life. No savings and no way to continue to even afford my meager 240 a month ** 40 yr old RV I live in as of end of July. I will be homeless and probably will kill myself and I hold the US government and SSI personally responsible.

There was and is enough medical and mental proof of my disability since day one. Being denied was negligent and they should pay for all my losses in the sum of hundreds of thousands, I will never get my credit back, or my car, or my home or the years with my family or my well being. I have been forced into a life of pure poverty by their reckless indifference by people but in power who have no credentials to make this kind of determination or a federal program that has no business have a state office control.

I found work and filled out the paper work and send in paycheck stubs the whole nine yards. I was told that I can receive money and medical insurance for 36 months than my program will end. Fair enough. So I continued to work. Then one day, I got a letter saying I was over paid and my credit was now ruined. That was the only letter I received. They insist I got more. Funny how these letters appeared when I questioned their practice, ones I never seen.

I spoke to several people and I thought I was all set and everything was work out. But problem after problem kept coming up. Over pay after over pay was cited. I found out they have interns several of them working on my case. No one knows who is doing what or they were doing it differently. Long story short, my husband I lost 2 income checks to them saying I owe $9,400 in over pay. Because of that stupid ticket work program. So beware and say no to the program. It will come back to bite you. They made a ton of mistakes and the program is full of flaws and no one knows how to run it. I try to reapply in January and have it expedited because of my shoulder again. I am suppose to get preliminary payments while I am waiting on the decision and have received nothing. I have tried to receive help. And was told they do not make mistakes and it is all my fault. Now what am I to do. I have yet to receive my payments. I was told do to my supposing 16 over pays, I am a risk that they are not going to take again. I need help.

On Tuesday, May 26, 2010, I attended the Community and Veterans Job Fair Conference 2010 at the Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, MD. There were several government agencies in attendance, speaking with individuals and accepting resume's. I waited one and half hours to speak with a representative from the Social Security Administration because there were several jobs listed on their board that I was very much interested in discussing. There were two (2) representatives at the table for the agency a female and male. I was in the male's line and his name was Mr. **, the lady whom the complaint is against did not give me her name.

As Mr. ** finished his conversation with the person in front of me, I was about to step up to the desk when his counterpart immediately informed him that she had an applicant from FEMA and he needed to speak with her. I stepped aside so I could wait to speak with him after the lady from FEMA was done. Unfortunately, that was not an option, the SSA female rep told me to come to her line and that she would assist me. The first question out of her mouth was "What can I do for you?" Well, it was obvious to me that I wanted to inquire about employment opportunities with the SSA agency. I extended my hand for a shake and stated my name, she did not give her name and acted like she had an attitude.

I stated the names of the positions (Claim Rep.; TeleService Rep.; Claims Authorizer etc.) all GS-5 to 7 Grades and I would like to apply for either one of them and discuss the requirements. I informed her that I had worked for a Sports Agent for the last 14yrs. and he was moving to LA, he offered me a job, but I did not want to move to LA. She stated "are your kids grown" I said "yes" and then she gave me a look like what is the problem, I then informed her I do not want to live in the West Coast, I like this area. Then she stated with a loud and rude voice "do you have a degree? ", again I stated "yes." So I gave her my resume, which she didn't want to take. "All of my education and job experiences are listed here," I stated to her. She looked at my resume' and started frowning her face and shaking her head saying no, no, so I was about to ask her "what is the problem and then she stated "what is your GPA? " I said a 2.5 and she "stated "oh no you couldn't work for us, you need a 3.00 or 4.00 to work in our agency. "

I asked her "if my work experience of over 25 years of customer service, managerial and administrative positions could substitute for the GPA? " She stated "No, you must have the GPA to work for their agency since I was coming off of the streets and had never worked for the government. " I asked her would she accept my resume' any way just in-case a position became available and then she told me to check the website daily. I would like to know three things 1. Is this true? You need a 3.0 or higher GPA to work for the SSA? 2. Why did she treat me in such a harsh manner? Maybe it's because of my disability 3. Is this a form of discrimination with the GPA?

I watched her line of applicants and Mr. ** each time they spoke to someone you could barely hear them but for me I was put on public display. I was embarrassed and upset by the incident that I left the job fair. I didn't want to be recognized as the one told she could not work for the SSA agency. The female representative did not handle this in a professional manner, if she knew they would not hire me, just take the resume' and tell me to have a nice day. But for me to get all of the questions right off the back "what can I do for you; do you have a degree; what is your GPA; I am almost positive that is not how she started her conversations with other applicants because I would see her smiling and acting pleasant. This was a big disappointment to attend a job fair and not even get a fair chance to apply for a position. There was no physical damage done, mostly emotional damage and economic because I felt awful and left the fair without trying other agencies.

I have an appointment next week at the Bloomingdale office to help clear up my mom's social security. She is 83 and needs my help. She received two letters from S.S. -- one from the Bloomingdale office and one from the central office in Chicago, IL within two days. One said everything was taken care of (from Chicago) and the other (from Bloomingdale) confirmed the appointment for next week. It gave the above number to call if we were to cancel or had other questions.

I have tried on numerous occasions to call the S.S.A. Bloomingdale office. I have spent two days redialing repeatedly the phone number and always getting a busy signal. Today, after spending the entire day (until 3 p.m.) continually dialing, my call was answered and for one hour, I continued to receive the same recorded message. After one hour, a live person said she would be right with me. Several seconds later, I was disconnected. I have worked on this all day (what do people do when they can't sit all day on the phone? ) and am nowhere.

This same thing has happened to me previously on this same issue. I have gotten through their line four times. Two times I was disconnected after a live person got on and said she'd be right with me. My question is "Do they take your call, tell you they will be right with you, put you back on hold and then hang up so that it counts as a call they have processed?

I understand they are probably overworked and understaffed. But for the life of me, I can't figure out how anyone has the time or fortitude to stay more than an hour on the line after calling for days to get the recorded message and then get disconnected after waiting another hour on the phone. Does loss of my time and temper qualify as a damage? How does anyone get through ever? My main worry/complaint is that these calls are being taken and then hung up on by the phone representatives because they either don't want to take them or because it will count toward a call they handled although they didn't handle it at all.

This is not right. I have spent an entire day on just calling to see if the appointment next week is necessary and if we should cancel it. I am going to stop trying and just not show up for the appointment. Please check to see if by picking up the phone and telling you that they will be right with you, putting you on hold and then hanging up on you counts toward calls they've handled or something else that would give them a reason to take your call and then immediately disconnect you. Thank you.

Finally after 3 tries, I got a letter in the mail saying it had been accepted and I would receive his card in 8-10 business days. It never came, so I tried to call them and I could never get a person to answer.

I got so fed up with this that I gave up for years but now he is 16 and needs his card to get his driver's license. So I gather all of my info, take off work and head up there. I had his adoption decree, his shot records, his birth certificate and his social security number (I do have that). Well, they told me that none of this would work because it is not current.

They want me to go to his doctor and get the doctor to write a letter on his letterhead that states my son's name, both my name and my husband's, his date of birth his medical record # and it must be signed by the doctor and cannot be a stamped signature. This must be an original, not a copy. Why would that be more proof of his identity than the materials that I had provided? How can his adoption papers be not current? You only get adopted 1 time not every yr! Nowhere on the paper that I filled out does it say anything about the documents being current and when I pointed that out, all she could say was, "Yes, I know it isn't very clear." Then she said we were done and until I had the proper paperwork she could not help me! Well, I'm sorry to say that I had the proper paperwork according to their paper and I got a little mad and yes, I did yell, so I was told to leave.

The woman on the phone talked so fast none of us could understand her. When asked to repeat, she hung up on us twice! Don't contact me, I just want this added to the list of complaints, in the hope that some of these government workers, though not all are bad, will gain a little humility. They have to step out from behind the bullet proof glass sometime, and we shouldn't have to clean up the mess!

The damage that results from this is the fact that these agents are dealing with people who already have a plate full of problems, cannot work, in the process of being starved out from labor and industries, SSI, and unable to afford medicines prescribed for problems mostly caused by this type of abuse! Just keep poking these folks with sticks and see what happens!

My son has been receiving SSI since about 2001. This February 2010, his SSI was stopped because SSA says he is not eligible because we own land. We are in a rental contract to buy land, but have no rights of ownership or equity, only a simple land contract. If we stopped making our payment we would lose it. The land is in the owner's name which is easily discovered if you call the courthouse municipality in which the land lies. We have no ownership rights but my son's SSI benefits are penalized despite this.

I requested a case review at the end of January 2010 because we have tried to explain this fact several times to SSA and the issue keeps coming up and now has gone to the extent of our son's benefits being cut off. We believe this is not right. I actually asked to come in with a lawyer and was put off, being told this was not necessary. I explained that my son's living situation is being compromised by the cut off and that I think he has the right to a case review with an attorney present. I did get an appointment, but I am only scheduled to speak with a claims representative on Thursday March 18, 2010 and I do not know if there will be any effective action taken for my son's benefits. We are $1700 behind (two months on our rent) and Isaac has lost his health insurance benefits.

The letter states: "if you cancel with 30 days of notice, your coverage ends when state stopped paying". It said to respond to the local SSA office. On Nov 9, 2005, I sent certified letter to local office requesting to cancel it (I have records). On Nov 10, 2005, they received it. I never received a response. In July 2007, they were still deducting these premiums from my benefits. I never once used the Medicaid. I applied and was approved as a Payor so I could act on mother's behalf. I applied for her lump sum widow's benefit of $255, and for her share of Dad's Social Security under widow's benefits. Thus far, I have gotten absolutely no status reports as to the progress. Mom is only receiving her own social security which is extremely nominal so I am having to use her reserves to pay her caretakers, nurses, utilities, etc.

When I call the office, I am told I have to talk to Ms. **, the person who is handling the claim. I leave messages but she never returns the calls. When I phoned the main Social Security number (800 toll #) I get this sad but true story about how everyone is so overwhelmed, yada, yada! This is no excuse for not having claims timely handled. The agent also told me some people's claims are so old and not yet handled that they are having to deal with having their utilities cutoff, and all sorts of difficulties because of this inefficiency.

I am a hardworking taxpayer, like both my parents. I am very discouraged and disappointed in the manner in which Social Security is treating my mother. My father was a WWII veteran, 100% disabled who plucked his comrades from the ocean when their carrier was attacked by the Japanese and he definitely paid his dues. Why is my mother being treated so wrongly by our government? If I am not doing my job where I work and didn't return calls or handle my business, I'd be immediately dismissed. Why is this happening at the Social Security Administration? Where are our tax dollars going if not helping our own people? If they are short handed, then hire people for Pete's sakes?!

I have been waiting almost six months now for back payment and every time I call, I never get any return phone calls back. Finally, when I did talk to him, he said he was sorry it's taking so long but he had three people ahead of me and it should be within the week. Well, it's been almost three more weeks and nothing! I started receiving my monthly benefits in June of this year but none of my back pay and it was approved in April. I also called the main 1-800 number and they said they show nothing as being filed and don't understand themselves why it's taken so long. They have emailed Mr. ** twice to call me in regards to this and I never got any calls from him nor anyone else at this office, until I called and finally as I said got to talk to him and said what he said as I mentioned. Thank you for your time.

I received a phone call from the Social Security office almost 5 months ago. They told me they had just come across my file and I should have received payment 12 years ago from my father's retirement benefits. I am glad they found it because I had no clue, but 12 years. I have an account with the Department of Revenue. I can't get paid off and the interest is outrageous. So a government worker made a mistake and we're not supposed to get interest? Anyway, 5 months and I still have not received my check. I can't get a call back now and every time I call the main line, I get a different story or answer. I have even been told twice that they couldn't find me in the computer and eventually did. I have just become so frustrated and don't know what I can do to resolve this.

Most of the time that I contact the SSA to try to find out what is going on with my disability payback, I got treated terribly. I was even hung up on the last time I tried to get information. They should not treat people like they do. We are entitled to call and ask questions concerning our Social Security, and if we do not understand what they are saying, then they should explain it in a friendly and cordial manner. Something needs to be done about this issue. The last time I called, I placed the phone on speaker, so that my aunt could hear. She was appalled at the way I was treated and talked to. Then I was hung up on.

I am writing this complaint, because I'm completely fed up with the Social Security system and the inability of any of your employees, whom either I or my attorney have contacted with my case to get this matter resolved. To make a long story short, after being disabled for 3 years, your judge awarded me my disability, retro-active to October 1 2005. I received my Medicare shortly thereafter. In November 2008, I received my first disability check. Also, as of January 1, 2009, both my food stamps and my Medicaid ended. This was where it turned sour.

In March of this year, I didn't receive my monthly check. After making several unsuccessful attempts to reach my local SSA office by phone, I asked my attorney to see if they could find out what was going on. My disability was ended, because, unknown to me, there was a warrant out for my arrest. I then received a letter from SSA stating that "benefits may be terminated if a warrant is issued for either a violent or drug-related offense." I then contacted the court, which issued the warrant; and they stated that there was no warrant. I contacted my attorney with this information, and they passed it on to the SSA employee handling this matter and were informed that I would have to provide proof in writing and mail it to them. I did, after not hearing anything for a week.

My attorney contacted the said employee to see if we were good to go. She replied that she couldn't accept the proof, because it wasn't on the county's letterhead. I had the clerk of court not only re-write the letter on county letterhead, but she also personally contacted the said agent to make sure the letter would contain all the necessary information. Again, after not hearing anything for a week, my attorney re-contacted the said agent; and they were then told that the only way for me to resolve this matter was to petition the court to strike the order for arrest. This is when I discovered that this warrant was issued for a failure to appear in Child Support Court, not a violent or drug-related matter.

When my attorney re-contacted the said agent with this fact, the agent replied that it didn't matter and that I would still need the order stricken. On May 18, the order was stricken. After I didn't receive my June or July checks, my attorney contacted the SSA office, and they were told that the matter was in the process. Now, August is here, and still, there's no check. We again contacted our local office, and they said that they would call the payment center to see what the delay was. As of last week, still, nobody knows what was going on. Yesterday, in the mail, I received a letter from the SSA; and I foolishly thought it might be the letter explaining what is happening. I couldn't have been wrong. The letter stated that since my Medicare premium of $96.40 was not paid within the time limit, my medical benefits have ended.

So now, I'm "a medically disabled American" coming up on 4 years now. I not only have lost my food stamps and Medicaid, because I was awarded Disability (which isn't coming in), but I've had to live for 4 years on only 4 disability checks. And now, I have no medical insurance whatsoever, because the SSA has been dragging their tails for 3 months.

They need to fix this. Their agency caused this mess, and now, I have to continue to suffer. I need my monies, and I need my medical insurance. I have ongoing medical problems that I cannot address without them. I have an office visit with 1 of my many doctors this Friday, 8-21, for an upcoming procedure. I need to have resolution by the end of the business day on Thursday, 8-20-2009, or I will have to postpone this important procedure.

I called the 1-800 call center for social security regarding my commencement of Social Security Benefits on August 5, 2009 and talked to a lady named Lisa regarding the time frame on my benefits. I had applied for benefits on June 21, 2009. She could find no reason that I should not have been processed and asked me to call my local office to find out why they had not forwarded the paperwork for processing. I first called and reached a voice mail in Albany, New York and left a name and message, but did not feel comfortable about reaching another state so I called back. On the second call, Ms. ** answered the phone and told me that there was a customer ahead of me and to hold.

I did. It seemed like forever. There was no way that I could tell whether the line had gone dead or not, so I finally hung up. The call was around noon. I called back three more times and just got a busy signal. Finally, my calls just rang continuously for the next 45 minutes. Finally, Ms. ** answered again and attempted to assist me but told me that a claims representative would have to call me back. She agreed that she saw no reason for me not to be processed. I questioned her as to whether the social security office was closed during lunch and she told me that someone was supposed to answer the phones. Near the end of the day, I called back, and got a message to leave another message and someone would return my call within three days.

My question is, what kind of service is this from our local office in St. Augustine? Is this protocol? This may be an example of the worst customer service in history. This is a federal office, not a private business. Phones should be answered during Federal Business hours. This is too much stress for the average senior.

It was the most unbelievable experience I've ever had. Hopefully, it was recorded. Also, when I went into the Social Security office in San Bernardino, CA after lunch, one of the ladies who sits behind the counter that was helping me had alcohol on her breath and was having a difficult time understanding what I want. In March, they cut off the SSDI of the man I take care of leaving me to foot the bill for the next 7 months. I had to go down to their office 4-5 times, a 1 1/2 hour drive, one-way. I had to take him to a doctor's appointment, again, a 3-hour drive was involved.

The worst of all? They sent me a bill for $2,790.00 saying they overpaid him when they haven't been paying him. This was when I contacted the Richmond office and had the horrible experience with Bob **. Without exception, most of these employees are rude, unpleasant, unhelpful and they just don't care. Apparently, they can't be fired and have no accountability. These are our tax dollars at work! I had to borrow money to pay for his part of our living expenses and they owe him about $6,000.00. My child's father was approved for total disability. He has a representative payee. I called in May when I found out that he was approved and made an appointment to take my daughter to our local office to file a claim on her behalf being that she was still in high school. While making the appointment via phone, the SSA rep noticed that the rep payee who lives in NC along with my child's father had started a claim on my child's behalf but it was not processed yet because she had to prove that she had custody of my daughter. I told them that I have always had custody of my daughter and that we lived three hours away.

They made an appointment for June 10th, 2009 for me to go to the Norfolk, VA office and file a claim. They asked me to take all my proof and I did including my daughter herself. After filling out all the paperwork, almost at the end of the session, the SSA rep that we saw in the Norfolk office told me that a check went out on May 26th to the rep payee in NC. I asked the question how when she had to prove that she had custody. How when she is paying child support to me for my daughter on behalf of her brother? I filed a fraud claim on the 11th of June; however, I have not heard anything as of yet. I wonder I have a case against SSA for sending the check out to the wrong payee and not verifying custodial information which includes school records and everything. My child has been attending high school the last four years in Chesapeake, VA not NC. Do I have a case? Please advise.

I called to speak with someone about having my daughter's Social Security Benefit deposited into my new bank account from the "joint" account I and my husband have that I closed. The guy I spoke with proceeded to tell me how he couldn't move money from that account since my husband was on it. He could move it, but not deposit it into an account that had both of our names on it. So he could do both (in other words, he was wrong).

After going through all the required information I needed to provide, I had a question. I asked the man if my next check would be mailed or deposited into my new account and he began chastising me about closing my other account first. First, that was not my question, and second, I was well aware that there was a possibility of the check returning to them and then being mailed to me. I had no problems with this. I proceeded to try and ask my question again politely and before I could get a few words out, he cut me off as if he knew what I was asking about and started answering a question I was not even asking. After he finished, I proceeded to try and ask my question again, and was rudely cut off again.

This man spoke in a very condescending voice and he didn't even know what I was asking. This time, I cut him off and said, "Excuse me sir. Please let me finish the question." Before I had time to finish that statement, he was yelling at me and cursing at me saying, "Are you ** through yet? Are you?!" I never got an opportunity to ask my question. I can also tell you that I went through about 20 minutes of automated stuff holding for this person and I got hung up on.

I never got my question answered and I am very concerned that he may mess with the payment he set up for me and cause me financial hardship. I did yell back at him trying to get his attention, but that didn't work. He just kept repeating the above and hung up on me. I can't find anything on the internet or anyone I can contact in regards to this. All I wanted to do was ask a very brief question and I am not at all long winded. This is by far the worst customer service I have ever experienced! It is very hard to reach someone. After you go through approx. 20 minutes of automated services, they will send you to a busy signal usually.

I've recently learned that I'm not eligible to receive "one time additional Stimulus check payment of $250.00" due to my temporary address in the Republic of Korea. This is quite contrary to last year's Economic Stimulus whereby I received $600.00. Mary and I are currently living only on our monthly Social Security payments. My wife Mary and I have resided here in the Republic of Korea since my retirement to avail ourselves of special medical treatments. My permanent residency is the State of Hawaii, permitting to vote for President Obama last November. President Obama then signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. I'm one of 55 million Social Security recipients in the United States. Apparently, the Social Security recipients, currently living in foreign countries, have been excluded from the receipt of "one-time" additional Stimulus check payment of $250.00 as of November 2008.

In my personal opinion, I feel it's just not justified for President Obama to have signed this bill without "deep" thinking. Under the current global economic surroundings, discriminating among Social Security recipients based on the location of each resident I consider unfair and a big mistake! This appears to equate with the renewal of the old Jim Crow Law practiced in the southern states many decades ago. It is immoral. We simply cannot and will not go back to exercising the principles of isolationism during our jet age! I've read President's auto biographic books and noted that his mother survived on "food stamps" in Hawaii for a while. How would President Obama have felt if the State of Hawaii had not granted benefits to her because of his divorced Kenyan father, who was a foreign student attending Harvard in Boston? The situation appears similar to these Social Security cases.

Obviously, I'm incensed at what has been done to us as I'm sure all of those receiving such "second hand" citizen treatment are as well. The issue is a matter of principle and not $250.00 per se. It's hard to rationalize the reasons that could have caused this slap in the face from our government. I highly recommend that our President Obama immediately initiate action with congress to correct this injustice! From a political standpoint, those who voted to exclude selected citizens from the Stimulus provided to other citizens, have "shot themselves in the foot". I for one will not support them in future elections and encourage many others to do the same unless they apologize, reverse this asinine policy and correct this discrimination.

Lastly, I'd like to share a couple of "sentences" in response to my recent inquiry on the subject of "Stimulus Check $250.00 Exclusion" I've received from SS Admin which I vehemently don't agree: I understand where you are coming from. The main reason why the Economic Stimulus was approved was to stimulate the the economy of the USA. If Social Security Beneficiaries who are outside the US would also be eligible, the money paid to them will not be sued within the US, thus defeating the purpose of the Stimulus Package.

It doesn't make any sense at all. It's all conceptual, but impractical. How does this person know for sure that I'm going to donate the entire $250.00 to my old school, New Hampton Prep School (Class of 1956) at New Hampton, New Hampshire in the USA, which I had planned to contribute under the campaign of giving program? Frankly, our government should not dictate or legislate the law of individual spending plan. Why then, President Obama is so apprehensively concerned about the money paid to Social Security recipients in foreign countries "will not be used within the US"? After all, President Obama appears to be soon forgotten that this country is a nation of all immigrants, therefore, we're all deeply rooted in the US with the rest of the world economically and socially.

I have been on disability since about 1998 after a two-year fight to obtain what I clearly qualified for, which was a total waste of time and money. In 2004, my husband filed for divorce, leaving me with a huge mortgage note, all our bills, my live-in ailing mother, and my daughter. Because I have always suffered from the disability, I have bipolar disorder and I have never been able to hold a job for very long. I have therefore never earned enough money to have made my disability income very substantial. Because it was so low, approx. $540.00 a month, I was in big trouble when my husband left. I was faced with having to get a job, even if I would lose it as soon as I fell into a depression. Since I had not worked while on disability, I did not know the rules for working. So I wrote to let them know as soon as I got my job. I had been told something about a 9-month trial work period and had also been told there was an income limit, but I had no idea the details of either. I wrote to my local office asking for details so that I could avoid doing anything that would jeopardize my disability. I did not receive a response.

Eventually, I called and was told that all I needed to do was make sure I completed and turned in the annual income form that they would send to me. I made sure to do that every year immediately upon receiving it. Since I still was unsure about this "income limit", I wrote again and again for over two years. I never once got a response. Because I was going through the divorce, struggling with keeping myself alive through my depressions, trying to keep my daughter in school, trying to take care of my mother, and trying to keep myself employed, months would go by before I thought to write them again. I finally gave up and decided since I hadn't heard from them, I must be doing what I was supposed to be doing. I had been able to find their website which had an "annual exempt earnings" page, which I was well under so I felt confident all was right.

On the third year, I received a letter from them saying I owed them $6,000. I had since lost my job, was remarried, but we were still barely making it. We were able to pay our mortgage payments and necessary expenses, but nothing else, including food. We didn't qualify for food stamps because he earned $10 over their limit–$1900 a month for a family of three! Our mortgage alone was $1200 so we did not have money left over to even eat. Both my husband and I had also gone back to school in an effort to get out from under government assistance, which we were able to pay for through grants.

When I got that letter, I became hysterical because I had tried so hard for three years to make certain I did all I was supposed to do and they never once even acknowledged my letters let alone explained the rules. I did find that there is something called "not at fault" which you can claim; and if you meet their criteria for that and paying them back would basically ruin you, then you do not have to pay back the money. There are four criteria and I met every one clearly. It was also abundantly clear that paying them back would cause us to be homeless. So I filed my waiver request. They denied me stating that on the last criterion in the last half of the sentence it says if you could have been expected to know you owed them, you are responsible. But how could I have known unless they told me, which they refused to do for over three years? They did say I could appeal. I did. I met with an employee at the Norcross office. A woman named Mrs. ** and explained again why I was not at fault. I had never withheld information. I turned in timely annual reports, etc.

When I looked through my file at that meeting, however, I did not see any of my letters for the two years I wrote to them and I asked her why they were not there. She acted like she didn't know where they could have gone and tried to suggest that I sent them to a different office or that they might have been in a different file in storage. She assured me she would track them down. She never did. She didn't even have my most recent request for the waiver in the file! I wound up having to go home to pull that letter off my computer and fax it to her. All other correspondence to them would have been in old computers that I no longer have. I do have two hard drives, but as was pointed out to me by a friend, even if I paid money I don't have to have the letters pulled off the hard drives, they could still simply say they never received them.

After that meeting, in spite of the fact that I clearly met the criteria and proved that I would be beyond destitute if they took that money, they denied me anyway. They completely ignored their own rules. In the letter they sent me telling me of my denial, they told me I had the right to a second appeal before an administrative law judge. They didn't even provide the form, which they said was enclosed in the envelope. After tracking it down on the website, I printed it, filled it out, and sent it in that same day.

Two months later, while I am awaiting my appeals court date, I get a letter in the mail telling me they are beginning the withholding of my disability check starting the following month and I will not receive it again until March 2010! I couldn't believe it. There was no mention of my second appeal at all. Not a word. What's worse is that even though they have the authority to only take a portion of that money each month, they chose to take every dime – including my Medicare payments! When I called to find out what happened to my appeal, they said they had no record of my appeal request. What a shock. She informed me that Medicare would bill me directly, but they only allow you to pay in three month installments that would total over $400.00.

I just do not understand how they can get away with this or why on earth they would choose to take every dime when they were fully aware I would already face losing my home without the check every month, so I certainly couldn't afford to lose the check and come up with the money for my health care. How can they get away with "losing" all the documentation that supports my position while still conveniently having any correspondence they sent me? Why would they ignore my legal rights to my appeal and be so careless with these documents that people's lives are dependent on? Why would they take every dime from me, including the Medicare payment, knowing my life literally depends on that medical care, especially when they had the option not to do so? What does that say about these people?

I repeatedly asked them for help understanding the process and my responsibilities and they just "lose" my paperwork? I was completely honest and ethical, reported every dime I earned every year, I met every one of their criteria for "not at fault," and none of that matters to them. It is my accusation that they didn't bother to do their jobs by not fully explaining my responsibilities and carelessly misplaced my correspondence. When they learned I was going to hold them accountable, they simply denied my claim. I think they were angered that I dragged my commissioner into it, and so they tossed my application for my appeal in the trash and just said they never got it. Then they maliciously withheld every single dime of my disability check to include the only means of medical care I have to keep me alive.

The whole purpose of this administration is to help people who need help. I proved positively that I did all I was supposed to do and they just cannot admit they made the errors, even if it costs someone their life. These people are lazy and do not do their jobs and then make you pay for it with your life. I can't even find an attorney willing to sue them. The only attorneys are the ones who want to take the easy win, get you on disability, but no one is willing to make these scoundrels accountable for their careless and malicious behavior.

I am emailing on behalf of my 93-year-old father, Nathan **. My father moved from Northern California to Southern California and I sent (or called) in a change of address form for him. When he did not receive his check for April, I assumed it went to his old address and that it would be forwarded to him. When the April check and then the May check did not arrive, I started to make calls to Social Security to find out what happened. After many phone calls, this is what I was told - my father’s checks were being sent to Comerica Bank and that the April and May check plus the stimulus check were all in his debit account.

My complaint is that neither my father nor I ever made this arrangement or were ever told about this arrangement. Now, I am having a very hard time withdrawing the money from this debit card to put the money, where it belongs, into his checking account. I want to know who set this account up and under whose authority. I want to see any document that has my father's signature on it agreeing to this arrangement. It is causing so many problems and I want to know how it happened. I truly believe that this could be construed as elder abuse or theft of his money. Whoever set this up and did not inform my father of this is basically cheating my father.

How many other elderly people who may be confused or do not have somebody to help them are wondering what happened to their money? Again, to me this seems like theft of Social Security money or at the very least taking advantage of the elderly. Somebody took it upon themselves to do this, and I want to know who did it and at the very least what you are going to do about it so that it does not happen to others. I want to see paperwork with my father's signature on it allowing this to be put into motion. I would think any kind of bank debit card involving Social Security money would need to be signed off by somebody, specifically the person who is being affected. I would really prefer to use the phrase "being scammed", but I will wait until this is resolved.

I was also told by somebody in Social Security that all I need to do is call the bank, Comerica Bank, and they would cancel the debit card and send my father a check for the money. The bank said there is no way this could be done since they are a paperless bank. I am very glad for the ecology system, but again it is creating a mess for my father. The assisted living place that my father lives in does not take debit cards, cash or checks only, and my father’s expenses are minimal so that he has nowhere to use a debit card that now has $2,670.00 on it.

You must get to the bottom of this and help me correct this mess. To withdraw the money from the debit card will cost him about $35.00 (for cash withdrawals), and why should he use his money for something that was done without his permission? I hope to hear from you soon, to see what information you have and to see how this can be prevented from happening to others in the future.

I went to the SSA to obtain a copy of my son's Social Security card. I drove 45 miles with my infant son just to obtain this information. I went in with my son, took a ticket (#27), and was called immediately. I went to the teller on the left side of the office and tried to explain that although my son was issued a number, I never physically received a card. She then stated I was wrong and they did send one. I then tried explaining that I still don't have one and that's why I was there that day. We went back and forth with her saying they sent one, me stating I didn't receive it. All I was trying to get her to understand was that I didn't have it and would like a new one.

She then whispered something to herself and I asked "What?" and she then stated that I was very rude. I said that was not good customer service and at this point, she hastily handed my paperwork to her co-worker to take over. I stepped over to the other teller and apologized sincerely and she also stated that I was very rude and had come at her co-worker swinging. At this point, she called 3 security guards to come in. She then finished my paperwork and handed it to me. I had asked if I could receive the actual number (which I stated to the first teller) and she then asked what I needed it for. She also very rudely asked me if I needed it to file my taxes. I feel that it is none of her business why I needed the number. I actually just wanted it for my records.

A while ago, Social Security Administration advised me that I had been overpaid while I was collecting Widow's Survivor benefits, after my husband's death while raising my two daughters. A schedule of repayments was worked out with them. As agreed, I was repaying them $25 per month. Last week, I received my Federal Income tax return, with a notice attached that Social Security had petitioned IRS to take out the total balance of the overpayment, which they did. They did not pre-advise me of this. I did not receive any notification of intent. This is against their contract with me. We had made an agreement, and I was keeping my part of it. This is causing an extreme financial hardship for me.

Upon arrival, we approached the security agent (African American female) who was on the telephone, to ask how I should change my name on my SS card. Before I could ask the question, she stated, "You all need to get away from my desk because I need to take this telephone call." We remained by her desk in disbelief of her attitude and overheard her speaking to a bank conducting personal business. At that point, we walked around, identified how to get a number, and completed a form that was next to the black box.

We began to wait since there was only one counter person attending to the many people waiting. Finally, after an hour, our number was called and we were informed that they no longer issue SS Cards and we needed to go to the Jamaica location. We can't believe that we waited there for more than one hour for this answer when the security guard could have informed us as soon as we entered the facility. In addition, for the hour that we were there, there was only one person at the counter at which time we observed at least 12 people walking around doing nothing. Is this where our tax payer money is going? We would like a response as to why people are treated so poorly at a government facility and as to why we wasted an hour of our day and accomplished nothing.

My problems with SSA started in November 2007. My son was due his 2nd installment of back pay. He didn't receive it. I then went on a merry-go-round of phone calls from the 1-800 # to my local office. They finally sent me a payee report. I filled it out stating how I used his 1st installment with receipts. (we were struggling financially and could not afford food although my husband was working. We did not qualify for food stamps). I am disabled and cannot work. We have 3 children with 2 being disabled. I was then sent a somewhat threatening letter stating I had to pay back all of his 1st installment in the amount of $1869.00 from my own funds!

They enclosed copies of pages 1 & 2 which state how the money should be spent (education or medical only). I appealed and explained how dire our financial state was & that I didn't have any funds. I also sent them a copy of Page 3 which states money can be spent on housing and/or food. They conveniently left that page out. One week later I received another overpayment notice for my other son for the amount of $457.00. I just couldn't believe it.

I contacted Congressman John Peterson and his office was wonderful. They inquired into the situation and straightened it all out (or so I thought). No money was due for either child. Around the same time(1/08-2/08) they sent me 2 identical overpayment letters 2 weeks apart for December 2006. They incorectly had income recorded for me even though I didn't work. I had to go through the whole process of fighting them twice because of this.

During the next couple of months I received several letters with new amounts of back pay my son was owed. They were all different amounts. I could not understand why they could not figure this out unless this was just a stalling practice which I now believe it was. So far, as of today, July 16, 2008 my son still has not seen a dime of that 2nd installment.

In June 08 I informed them (the local office) my husband was laid off. Within 1 week I received another overpayment notice for my other son. All that was in the envelope was a letter. Nothing to show me where and how this could have happened when our income level has continued to drop. I contacted Congreessman John Peterson again. His office responded and said they are looking into this. That is where we stand now. I don't know if this local office is extremely incompetent or just seeking retaliation for reporting them to the Congressman. I need to know my rights and options. Please, if anyone can help, I would be so deeply grateful. Thank You.

A government program that pays just above minimum wage. What a joke. Anyway my mother is now 70 and was forced to stop working due to Federal cut backs. Her health is getting bad so she will not be able to go back to work in the private sector. The income they receive pays less then they need for their emediate living expense. The COLA is not fair or accurate. My parents are in debt an will never get out due to less income and more expense then they receive.

The FEDS should have their own lending Departments instead of selling it to the private banks and lenders. The interest earned would fund additional needed monies and secure our current Social Security, Medicare, Education, and other voter approved programs. I still think that the Social Security Program is a failure under its current income and expense system. The Program must be funded by 5% Employer and Citizen contribution along with assets that increase in value and are backed by the American Home Owners, Business Owners and other Secure Assets. The FEDS should have seen that the Money received from our citizens should be used to fund our citizens needs.

Step back and think for a minute. You will see that Trillions can be earned from interest by tax paying citizens for Mortgage Loans and other Secured Asset Loans. All Local, State and Federal owned materials that are ready for recycle or disposal should be sent to Federal Recovery Plants. There they may be sold, traded, or used for Non Profit Orginizations. The rest would be recycled instead of tossed of in the ocean or landfills. This would create jobs, protect the earth and bring in additional income. Just a thought.

Last February, my wife lost her part-time job at the Garner, Kohls store. In an effort to keep up with my bills, I called SSA and cancelled the Medicare Plan B account that I had had since April of 2000. I thought that I was still fully insured under the family covered GHI (Group Health Insurance) plan that I had enrolled in with my prior employer, The Brooklyn Union Gas Company in November of 1967. Premiums were still being taken out of my pension check.

Unfortunately, the GHI plan had been changed from full coverage for me, (but not for my wife) to a supplemental plan when I became sixty-five.

    I should have known this.

I found out in May when my leg ulcer opened up again after being dormant for over twenty years, and Medicare refused to pay any of the approximately $7,000 in medical bills.

I contacted the SSA and admitted my egregious stupid mistake and I offered to pay the premiums that I had missed since my foolish Plan B cancellation provided that I could be re-instated in Plan B.

SSA refused. There was no explanation for the refusal. Mr. Dawkins, the office manager of the Smithfield branch did telephone me to inform me that the SSA has regulations.?

SSA insists that I can only enroll in Medicare Part B during January through March of 2008. Medicare Part B will not pay any bills until July of 2008.

My doctor has informed me that unless I have my leg amputated or broken and reset, the ulceration will spread and I run the risk of a fatal blood clot migrating from the wound.

I made an old mans senseless error. At least, I think that I should be reinstated in Medicare Part B at once so that I can have the potential life saving operation NOW.

Apparently I needed to send another document along with this to 'prove my identity' (how you can truly prove your identity through the mail is beyond me, but that is off subject), therefore they sent back the previously listed paperwork in a completely UNSEALED envelope. This bug has been present for at least five years and has caused the

I have written several letters to both AARP and Security Providers. Yesterday I received a phone call form Thomas Peart and he informed me that the bank they had been doing business with has closed and it will take awhile before receiving credit. AARP will only hold the temporary credit until this month. I was told back in October that it would take two billing cycles, and now I am being told the bank went under back in October. I have letter documenting all my phone conversations. I have now asked my niece to help me because I recently lost my husband and can't deal with the added stress. Please tell me what I should do now.

Edith should the New Jersey Attorney General's office. A similar scam goes under the name R&R; Consultants.
