I called to update my mom's address. She has dementia. I had to tell her the answers because of course she does not remember them. The rude customer service representative told me I couldn't help my mom. So, how is she supposed to verify the information? Social Security do not honor power of attorneys, and they told me if her check comes in my name I will be liable for all her bills. They rather put someone in a nursing home because it is easier than just help with a simple change of address. Of course, I had to wait 30 minutes to talk with someone. Will call again and hope to find a caring agent.

We have taken our Aupair to SSN office three times in attempt to get name on SSN card corrected. She is from Brazil where they do not have middle names that only have first and last names. A first name can consist of multiple names. Her first name is "Andressa Cristina". The SSN data entry screens for first name will only allow 16 characters so her name on SSN card comes out at "Andressa Cristin" which is causing major issues with the IRS and DMV since the latter entities see this as two different people.
We were advised on our last visit to SSA office to go to immigration office to resolve. We went to immigration office and they said it was impossible to changes with immigration because Brazilian birth certificates are written with multiple first names. She is here the USA for approximately two months and needs to file a tax return, but she can't without a resolution to this issue. The SSA office have washed their hands of the issue. We only want to be legal and file taxes and yet the system is working against us.

I called social security office to get some information about creating an account because I was denied access. This thing named Sheryl answered with an attitude. I explain my situation and since she is a know it all jumps to conclusions, I politely interrupt and said "That's not what I'm asking." She then says "Let me finish." Anyway I have to deal with this arrogance and rudeness over the phone just to get the info I need, so I bite my tongue the whole time I'm hearing this noise called a voice. Don't think my little complaint will change anything although I hope Sheryl can acquire some communication skills and maybe get a paper cut. Thank you.

I am currently a payee for a friend who is mentally unable to handle his own finances. Recently we had a problem with a dishonest employee from Concord Mental Health. She coerced him into signing papers which made her his payee. Before he and I were able to get this changed back to me she received one of his checks. She ended up giving him part of his money but the rest of it she claims she returned to social security. I have been able to call and ask them about the money once and was told they never received it from her. Now every time I call social security I get the run around from an extremely rude employee. She begins asking me questions. I have answered both mine and his social security numbers, both of our addresses, both mothers maiden names, both birth dates, both birth locations, both phone numbers.
This should be enough to identify me as his payee. All I want to know is have they received the money from this woman and if so when will he receive it. Because last month I had to pay for his prescriptions, food, toiletries, etc. out of my own money and I'm not wealthy. I can't afford to do this. Plus it is his money and I think the woman from Concord Mental Health stole it. She has flat out accused me of stealing it but if I had stolen it then there would be a record of it being direct deposited into his account and a record of me removing it from his account. There is no such record. I just want to know where his money is. But the ** at social security decides to ask me what is his father's first name? Excuse me? Since when is that a question? How the hell would I know his father's first name?
They have never asked me that question before or since. The next time I called I'm asked not just the state of his birth but the city. And now today I have still answered all the questions correctly but she tells me I'm wrong about his birth date. Funny because the day before when she hung up on me that was the same date I gave her and it was correct. I asked to speak to her supervisor and she refused. Then she hung up on me again.
I'm tired of this. I am his payee and he is missing money. I need to know whether or not social security ever received the money back from Concord Mental Health because if they have not then this woman is lying and she kept it. I don't understand why I am getting the runaround from social security but the employees are rude, unhelpful, and act like they are better than anyone else. They need to be knocked down a peg or two and remember who pays their salaries.

Have raised my both physically and mentally disabled nephew for over 20 years. I was recently called down to the ss office for an interview. I was asked questions regarding his expenses. He was receiving 764.00 per month but after that interview his benefits were cut to 532.00 per month. It seems his living arrangements had suddenly changed. I pay 1,400 per month rent. I told them he is responsible for his share of the rent. Since I absorb all other monthly bills they counted that as income and reduced his benefits. Do they take into consideration he is unable to care for himself so I pay 200.00 per week for help for him so I can work?
I seen my neighbors out relaxing in their pool yesterday as I was leaving for work. Their mother is on drugs so she receives ssi along with seven other checks because all her children have mental problems. She receives over 2,000 a month in food stamps, lives in a house that section 8 pays for, and receives help paying her utilities. They sleep all day long and party til the wee hours of the morning. I met her in a convenience store where she was purchasing 5 20.00 lottery tickets and plenty of soda and snacks. Her mother who also lives with her - receives ssi payments also. No one in the household has ever held a job. I believe the system is broken and we need to investigate all these scammers. Does anyone realize we are paying more in disability benefits than social security benefits for our retirees who worked their whole lives? Most of these people never paid in.

In October of 2014, I had a phone interview to see if things had changed since I got on SSI. The interviewer asked all of the usual question for about 10 minutes, and then he asked me something that made me so mad that I saw red!!! Being that I am divorced, he said, "are you seeing anyone?" Now what the ** does that have to do with being on SSI? My ex husband said that he asked him the same thing. We have the same SSI person but live totally separate lives. I bit my tongue to keep from going berserk to this man's questions, so I said, "NO!!!"
Also, Bakersfield, Ca has the worst SSA office (Office Park) that you would ever want to deal with. They have lost mine and my ex's paperwork, they tell you lies by saying that they will call you, and misinform you on information. My ex had an over payment, and instead of letting him pay it back then and there when he reported it, they sent him a letter a month later and said that they had cut him off because he had too much money for June. Now he is dealing with an appeal. By their own rules, a single person is allowed $2,000. With the payback that would have put him below that. This branch of the SSA doesn't even go by their own rules. They make the disabled feel like third class citizens, and it physically makes me sick to deal with them. A BIG investigation and house cleaning needs to be done with this entity!!

I have been subjected to substantial withholding from a wage garnishment on my earnings from 12/2013 through 11/2014. My argument is that I had a payment arrangement, and they negated that fact and proceeded with an unwarranted garnishment. Both my field rep and I made several phone calls and sent emails, but we met with, it isn't this department. She missed a payment so we garnished her wages. I just wrote and printed a 13-14 page series of events from 2011-2014 that shows the lack of communication within the administration, and why people have to repay money that they probably didn't owe or why they aren't getting what they are entitled to. These people have not a clue! In my case, they took so much that I could not pay any bills. I would pay a credit card bill and then use that credit card to pay another bill, always keeping it maxed out.
My father had helped me out with his cards and I had been paying them. Now I couldn't meet those payments. Everything kept getting worse and worse. Disconnections, owing 2 bills or more on everything and trying to at least pay the past due, six months behind in lot and mobile home payments. Then I lost my job in November, with all of this on my shoulders. Finally, in March I had to file a bankruptcy. I had to surrender my vehicles. But I could not put a couple of things in that were in arrears. I am collecting unemployment and my husband is on disability. We cannot get caught up. We have had to cancel doctor appointments due to lack of the co-pay and have gone without medication for the same reason. We are still on the verge of being homeless. And if they would just give me back the money that, when I read the paperwork, they should have never taken as long as I was current with my payments!

Well I went up to Social Security today to try and see if they can release my back pay of $27,000 or even help me with my 4 yr old daughter and the person I talk to said that they already released a part of my back pay in May which was only 2,000 when I am at risk of losing my Home, Electrical and Gas, and I brought in all my paperwork including my tax paperwork for my home and she (Ms. **) in window 19 told me in so little words there is nothing they will do to help and didn't even look at any of my bills or anything at all that I will have to wait till November to get anything at all and then said goodbye like I or my daughter didn't mean anything at all.
I even tried writing to congressman 1 from Indiana and 1 from Illinois which did no good cuz all they did was pass me to the next one and like nothing with no help from any of these people who are supposed to be working for the people. Instead I felt like they were working against me and my family and they expect us to vote on them. Now I know better. Thanks for listening.

Spouse has terminal illness and we are starting hospice but not set up yet today. We have been to our local SSA office twice for benefits for our children, as they will receive a small amount through his benefit. (He recently qualified.) Brought 2 originals and 1 copy of birth certificate last time but were told they need originals for all 3 at the same time. No problem, I understand that. I had to get a new original of the last one and with everything we're dealing with, it has taken me a while. We were told that when one of us comes back, just to let someone know we are only turning in birth certificates, so it should not be as long of a wait as the last 2 times.
When I arrived today there were several employees working, but 1 employee sitting at her window typing. I slowly approached, after taking a number, and let her know I had original certificates and was told I would not have to wait. She tells me that everybody waits every time. Unfortunately I did not have that kind of time to wait today, as my husband is having a bad week; in a lot of pain and I didn't feel good about being gone for long. (I had to leave him alone to do this. No one else was available to stay with him but this was on his list of loose ends and because of his loss of income he has been worried about it. He is worried about making sure everything is in place, even though he shouldn't be thinking about that now with all the pain and other things he's enduring.)
Anyways, I explained to the representative that I left him at home and was hoping the info I had been given last time was accurate. I made the mistake of asking if she was certain. I could have handled her giving me a firm yes. I was willing to try coming back another time, even though he would not have had the peace of knowing it was taken care of. I could have handled that. But what upset me was that she said, "look, everybody here has something. And they are all waiting patiently. Do you think you are more important than them? It's all in the way you look at it. You decide. No, everyone is the same here."
Now, I'm a glass half-full kind of person and that's what has gotten me this far without cracking. I have to be strong right now. But that was too much for me today as I am worn down too. Had a good cry in my car before leaving. Just bad timing, I guess. I know they deal with impatient people all the time but that just wasn't my intention. A little more sensitivity to the humbling and painful end-of-life situation we are dealing with would have been nice today, that's all. Probably not a consumer affairs issue but I wanted to put it out there. Fortunately the 2 employees that helped us previously had been compassionate, with my husband present but struggling.

In mid March I was contacted by soc. sec. informing that during an audit it was discovered that a check issued in Dec 2013 had not been cashed. They asked me to respond with either a yes or no; had I received and cashed the check? I recall having received the check but never cashed it and had indeed lost it. My mom died late Oct. of that year and I was ill-equipped to carry out the most basic of life's necessities and did not report it lost. It has been 47 days since my claim form was scanned into your system yet I am told that the clock doesn't start ticking so to speak as far as ssa is concerned until my local office received a call from an agent I spoke with.
I called my local office and they had no idea who I was nor did they have a record of receiving a call. I've called the Dept. of Treasury - they say I should have received my replacement check by now. This entire ordeal has been mishandled at the very least and most frustrating is I've caught several ssa reps in a blatant lie. Either that or they do not know that check replacement policy at all as was the case with Mr. ** in my field office on Valencia St. I don't understand why the check replacement wasn't started on the first of April when it was scanned in. I had problem earlier with Social Security whereby they stated my daughter was not a citizen even though she was adopted from S. Korea by my deceased wife and myself in 1996. My daughter was granted citizenship papers in 2000 at which time we went to a swearing in ceremony at immigration HQ in NYC. My deceased wife kept all the papers. I have moved several times and the citizenship papers are gone. My daughter has a normal SS card and number and was collecting SS Death benefits from my wife since 2003.
My daughter just turned 19 and was looking to get a job and applying to several colleges for the fall 2015. When she applied for a job, the company wanted to see her SS Card, so we went to our local SS office to apply for a new card (which is normal). We were told she was not a citizen, which shocked us. They wanted to see her citizenship papers to issue her a new card. Since both papers were lost, we had to request a replacement. We paid $345 in February to obtain the replacement documents. Now my daughter applied to a dozen colleges and got into all of them. She had to file FASFA forms to receive college loans, etc. SS told FASFA she was not a citizen and therefore she could not obtain student loans.
USCIS has a way to expedite the records since we were told it will take 6 months to obtain them normally. I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO PAY HER WAY THROUGH COLLEGE. In fact, I earned poverty level money last year. I requested that they expedite the records since she will not be able to get a job and go to college without her SS card. USCIS and SS are blaming each other, and USCIS on two separate occasions said although the situation appears serious they have to deny the request, since it is not a dire circumstance. I have now gotten my Congressman involved. There is so much incompetency in the government and if a politician's daughter had my daughter's problem they would think it is a dire circumstance. That is one of the reasons why they have an "expedited" case.

In August 2015 I called to make a change to SSI. I ended up losing a good chunk of my ssi from Dec 2014 until February 2015 because I wasn't paying rent. Got it back in March 2015. Moved into my own place March 2015, with my daughter as a roommate splitting bills 50/50 - my rent portion is $350, my utilities are 150$, wifi $60, storage $55, & that's not including $ for my doctors or prescriptions I'm on & have to have. Reported that change after the sixth of March. Went to report the change to workforce services because I also receive their assistance & ssi said my benefits were going to be cancelled because I hadn't reported my address change, which I found odd, because I did report it.
So I went home & called ssi & the lady I spoke with from Ogden Utah said that wasn't true & blamed it onto workforce services. She assured me my address was in there correctly & that my case was absolutely fine & I would receive my full benefits for April 2015, so I got off the phone with her feeling like everything was resolved. 10-15 minutes later I receive a phone call from ssi, a lady saying she's my caseworker, the same one that messed my case up before. She seems to take great pride in messing with my case, is extremely rude & arrogant to me, yes I've been rude right back. She is able to mess with my case in such a way that it's legal. So I don't like this lady, she has caused me nothing but hardship & homelessness since last year & seems to enjoy doing it, she destroyed the holidays for us this last year.
When she got on the phone with me she ripped me a new one, like she did the last time we spoke in December 2014 while my son & I were staying in a women's shelter, about how I was NOT supposed to call the 1800# to report changes to my case, that I am supposed to call her directly. Even though I've never heard of this woman prior to all of this. She says her name and direct extension are on each of my ssi letters. I've looked at my letters since she's told me this & can tell you than her name or extension has never once been on any of my letters. So today I finally got her name & her extension if I have to reach her again (which honestly now I fear doing, because reporting changes has only hurt my son & I financially). She then asked me if I had a roommate, which I do, I couldn't afford this place if I didn't (couldn't continue being homeless to wait for housing to kick in).
My roommate is my daughter who's on welfare, with three of her own children to support, so believe me, not a penny of her money goes towards me. We split the bills - part are hers, part are mine. The case worker took all of my daughter's & her children's personal information & my son's. She assured me she wouldn't be messing with my case, that I wouldn't be losing my income again, that I wouldn't end up homeless again because of her. I hang up again feeling like things were resolved. Then I receive a letter & am now losing the same amount of money again around $250 for April 2015 & May 2015, cause it will take them another two months to work out this new problem - that's just how ssi is apparently.
I call Ogden Utah ssi again today & at first they tell me it's because of my daughter's income that I'm losing this $, then they change their minds and tell me it's because I reported this change after the sixth of this month & so it will take two months for them to get it worked out & that they don't have to pay me this money back when they do work it out. They don't care that I no longer have the $ I need to pay my rent & that by them doing this is going to make my son & I homeless yet again..... The reason I feel like I'm being harassed, and I know this is going to sound paranoid, but I think it's my sister's ex husband's new wife that is causing these problems for me and I would like her investigated. Her name is **, she works for workforce Services. If it isn't her directly, it's someone she knows. I will get to the bottom of this if I have to continue to file complaints all accross this country until I have it investigated & her investigated.
It's funny to me that I've been on ssi since 2004, reported the same changes at different times & never had these problems until now. This ** has also messed with my sister's case. It was never proven because my sister never pursued her complaints. I however intend to. My sister's boys were adopted by this woman & before the adoption went through she had been bragging to my sister's sons about how she was purposely messing with my sister's case. I've been told that she would work in the same building my case goes through. It wouldn't be too far fetched for her to sit at other people's cubicles to make changes to my case, or have her friend do it for her, she's done it before (just because she's a state worker doesn't make her immune to using her job as a weapon to hurt people, she got away with it with my sister, so now she has a God complex).
Because believe me, this caseworker of mine has been anything but friendly to me.... These are not $ changes. First time was an address change & so was the second time. I feel like I'm being harassed & discriminated against & those are the only theories I can come up with as to why. The first income decrease made me & my 15 year old son homeless. I fear this will happen again this time because now I won't have the money I need to pay my rent. Anytime I've reported a changes in my address prior to August 2015 I have never had these problems. Now I feel like I'm under a microscope. If you want more details please have someone contact me. It's difficult for me to type it all out. Thanks.

I've been waiting to be approved for my disability for almost 3 years. In Jan 2015 I was finally approved. In March 2015 I receive a letter saying my monthly benefits will be $67 a month (I almost had a heart attack when I read this). Based on my earnings I should be getting over $2100 a month. A week later I receive a letter in the mail explaining that because I received workmen's compensation and they couldn't identify how much they estimated, I was receiving over $5,000 a month in WC. I received absolutely 0 money in 2014 and 2015 and I NEVER received or applied for any state disability or WC! I was NOT injured on the job so I never applied for WC!
I found out by calling SSA that someone had changed my application at my court hearing to WC, what the **!!! I NEVER checked WC but someone changed it on me without my knowledge. When I went to the SSA office they told me a private LTD insurance payment is considered a state benefit and can be deducted (WRONG!!!). I did receive LTD from my last employer but they had stop payments 12/2013 (This is not WC or state disability payments). My LTD contract states any money I get for SSDI I have to pay back to the LTD company, so in essence LTD is saying I have to pay back the SSDI and SSDI is saying they're going to deduct my LTD. My lawyer is mad and sending off a letter to SSDI to get this fixed. I should be getting over $2,100 a month in SSDI payment and if LTD is reinstated, that all goes to them and I'll get $4,000 a month in LTD only. SSA must have the most incompetent employees I've EVER seen.

The Social Security Administration is poorly managed Federal Agency which takes money away from the hard worker and veterans to support those who use drugs on a daily basis. I get denied SSI due to Alcohol use. In the Military at the tender age of 19 I was encourage to drink (free) all the Alcohol I could consume whenever things went wrong or we were under martial law (meaning a U.S. soldier was ambushed and killed by terrorists somewhere in Turkey). I've been diagnosed with PTSD by the Veteran Administration and due to my irrational behavior eventually lost my job. I'm not proud of my drinking and work hard at staying sober. I wish I had never be introduced to Alcohol at such tender age.
However, it's hard for me to understand how non-vet, ex-convict, Drug addict, and prostitute soliciting acquaintance of mine collects SS for sciatica. It's also hard for me to understand how my neighbor, a non-vet drug addict, also collects ssi (since he was 44 years old, 'cause he is supposedly crazy - not too crazy to buy drugs with his SS check). I do not do drugs, worked hard till the age of 50 when I became disabled, and would only drink at home in an attempt to combat stress. I'm not an ex-con, nor solicit prostitution or use illegal drugs. The money taken from me by SS is been used to provide money for illegal activities, which I find bothersome. I will continue to file for SS as often as I can regardless of the results and make sure to expose SS to the media at every chance I get.

The Social Security Administration is the most abusive part of the government after the military enslavers. I filed for retirement benefits in 2008 at the earliest possible time. About 1 and 1/2 year later the Riverside, CA office found that they had made a supposed error in computing my retirement benefits payments because I had earned substantial income from STRS the California Teachers Retirement System. They then decided that I had been overpaid some $6841 in seventeen months due to the formula in 42 USC 404 (b) which states that half of the pension you receive from another non-social security collected employer at the time of filing must be deducted from the amount computed as your social security benefit amount. Since my alternative pension was about $600 per month, the deduction should have been about $300 which running over the 17 months adds up to only $5100 of supposed overpayment.
How did they come up with $6841 I asked hundreds of times over about two and 1/2 more years? No one could answer. It was just a stall and I was fed up. Finally, they referred me to a technician on the staff who directed me to 42 U.S.C. 404 (b). When I read that statute I was really livid. As stated above it says that my deduction for STRS should be that which was earned by me at the time of applying. Since I was still working at the time I was applying in 2008, my earnings exceeded slightly the cap on my receiving any pension benefits from STRS. That is right.
My benefit amount from STRS was $0.00. Even if we use the SSA method of deducting $300 per month from my benefits, they continued their underpayment of benefits until 2014 at a calculated payback of some $15,000 on an overpayment that was alleged at $6841. That means that SSA owed me more than $9,000 in underpayment under their own formula. But the law says minus half of the eligible benefits at the time, that was $0.00, the underpayment using that value instead of $300 in the formula come to more than $27,000. I was calling them crooks and incompetent over the telephone. They banned me from all of their offices. No matter, they are still crooked and incompetent. Now, I have to file a lawsuit after taking the matter to all levels of appeal and it being found by their own judges that I am in no way at fault.

In December, 2014, I received a letter from Social Security stating that my benefits would be cut. I talked with my accountant who basically said they can't do that so I just waited to see what would happen. In January my benefit check was cut by over 95% and my wife's was cut by 50%. During the week of Feb. 9th, 2015, I began to try and contact my local office in Littleton, Colorado. I discovered that they have no local phone number. You have to call a national number.
Yesterday, Feb. 12, 2015, I tried calling the (800) 772.1213 number. The wait time was over 30 minutes so I asked for a callback. I was unavailable when they returned the call. I tried again in the later afternoon. Again, over a 30 minute wait so I asked for a callback. I did receive a callback in approximately 30 minutes. I explained that I wanted to make an appointment at the local Littleton, Colorado office. The woman representative, who was nice, could not get my information to "take" in their system even though I am obviously in their system.
After 22 minutes....according to my cell phone clock...she said she couldn't make it work and said she'd have to go to tech support. She asked if she could put me on hold. I said "Yes" but explained that I was going into a meeting but would have my phone on during the meeting. I asked if she could call me back and she said that wasn't possible. I had my speaker on during the meeting listening to the, in my opinion, terrible music. When my cell phone clock read 56.32 minutes....I finally gave up. So, now I have two problems: (1) trying to make an appointment to talk to someone face to face and (2) trying to find out why our benefits were cut.

I was denied social security disability benefits for two years after my original application. Hired an attorney and the SSD judge granted me temporary benefits for 7 years. I was to be back paid for the two years from original application. However, in the time frame from my original application and being granted benefits, I lost my home, my vehicle, my children and I had to move in with family and I could not get employment and did not receive child support. Bank and credit card accounts were closed on.
So, when the social security disability office paid my back pay, it went to the credit union that had closed my accounts and repossessed my cars. The credit union was not willing to give me the social security money that was sent to them for the back pay. I fought the credit union but had no other option but to move on. After a short period of time and receiving monthly benefits for my disability and benefits for my two dependent children under 18, I was able to get the surgeries and rehab needed to get back on my feet literally and get back to work.
I called the toll free number on my packet that instructed me to report that I had returned to work after 6 months. I was told that there was some kind of 3 month extension and to call back in 3 months. I called back in June because my company was being sold to another company and wanted to get verification if the trial work period started over. I was told the trial period did not start over. I called the ssda back in September to report that I was still working for the same company. The man took all my work information and then told me there was a 2 month grace period for the ssda to reconsider my benefits.
I received a letter in the mail from the ssda saying that we have recently received information that you have returned to work and there was a report showing works dates and salary. The information was wrong. It showed that I had went to work in March instead of January and the hourly amount was lower than what I reported on my phone call in September. I made the corrections and sent it back to the address provided. I did not receive a corrected sheet back. I continued to receive benefits for about 6 months before receiving a letter saying my benefits were being reduced. Then my benefits were reduced.
My benefits were reduced again when my daughter turned 18. I was told by the ssda that I could receive an extension if she was enrolled in college full time. She was at the time and I sent in to the ssda copies of her registration and schedule. I did not however receive benefits for her. I continued to receive benefits on me and my son. I contacted my case worker when I changed jobs and lost jobs.
I filed my yearly taxes including the ss benefits and some years had to pay in to cover the ss benefits. I also contributed to ss during my employment. In 2011 I received my first letter from Kansas alleging that I was overpaid and was going to have to pay back some the ss benefits. I called my case worker. She did not know what I was talking about and did not have those letters in her records and asked me to send them to her. I did.
She contacted me stating the letters were incorrect and that I was in fact still eligible for benefits. I believed her when she said it was a mistake and moved on. Until I received another letter stating that I owed more money. In tears and stressed to the max I called the number on the letter and no one was willing to explain to me what was going on. So, I called my local case worker again. Again, was told that was a mistake and that I was still eligible for benefits. I could not take the chance that no one in ssda cared one bit for my well being or what was right.
I begged her to stop sending me benefits. I cried and pleaded with her that I could not pay that money back and should not have to. I told her about all the letters I was getting from Delaware and Kansas that did not say the same thing and then she was saying something different from both all the letters. I told her I could not handle the stress and was actually getting sick from the stress of possibly having to pay back thousands of dollars. She finally agreed to stop the benefits. She said she would put them on hold in case I changed my mind!
So now, I continue to get letters telling me that I was not eligible for benefits since 2008 but my case worker telling me in 2011 that I am still eligible for benefits. I stopped using any and all benefits immediately. Unfortunately for me it was too late. I had to borrow money from family to pay bills and hire an attorney to fight the overpayment case against me. I was nervous when my attorney said that the judge should like me because I was Republican. Unfortunately, the judge did not like my attorney because he was a democrat. The judge did not even look at me or give me the opportunity to tell what actually happened.
I have several letters from over several years from different ssda offices in Delaware, Kansas, and Virginia. None of them say the same thing. The judge decided I owed all the money back. I appealed of course and the appeals court found in my case that the judge’s decision was not supported by substantial evidence and there is an error of law. The appeals court reduced the amount for me to pay back in half still leaving me a balance to pay of 24,109.40. That was October 3, 2014.
I appealed that decision and requested an appearance in person to add exhibits and additional information the judge would not hear. I was denied and appealed that again. I have to date received three more letters from Kansas. Two in December 2014 telling me to pay the ssa 52,304.90 by 1.3.2015. Then another letter in January telling me to pay 52,304.90 by 2.3.2015. I called the ssa at 800.772.1213 to get information on how and where to file a complaint against the ssda.
I was on hold for one hour and four minutes. The lady who answered my call, after getting my information, started saying that I owed the money. When I told her that I had a letter saying I didn’t, she just said that they didn’t have that letter and I needed to pay the money. I told her this is why I wanted to file a complaint. I have received several letters over the past years from different offices all contradicting each other and when I call no one knows what the other office is doing and expects me to know what is going on based on their letter alone.
She told me I could not file a complaint because they did not have the letter from the Virginia office overturning the letters from the Kansas office. I am so upset. She told me that I needed to take that letter to my local ss office. But as of now I needed to pay 52,304.90. Then hung up on me when I asked to speak to a supervisor. Someone PLEASE HELP!

I am speaking on my wife's behalf as she is very distraught at the moment. For Years now, she has been unable to get a job and help contribute to our day to day life expenses and despite my telling her not to, she feels horribly guilty. Her identity is either stolen, or there is a "problem" (which NO ONE will ever tell) with her Social. She has called every number available to call, filed a police report and visited the Social Security office in Murray, Utah. Everything just goes in circles.
This time upon visiting the social security office, she was Very hopeful that they might be able to tell her at least something as to what is going on or help in some sort of manner. But after a 3 hour standing wait, she is given a pamphlet with numbers to call that she had already gotten online and told to call them. In reply, she states that she has already done that and called every number on there with absolutely no help. They then recommend filing a police report. She then explains that she has already done that. Then they tell her to just, "Get a lawyer", which is something we cannot afford. We've been around this same loop over and over again and this is something I can NOT understand!
If there is a problem with her Social, whether it be identity theft or not (We're assuming identity theft as her medical records, among many others, were stolen from the University of Utah many years prior), WHY can't they HELP!?! It's a social security problem and they're the social security office!! She is the victim here, her life has been virtually ruined in her mind as she badly wants to work to help our financial issues. Can they not see that a social security number is being used by more than one person??? When there is a Social being used by more than one person, why do they not pursue the problem?
She feels like she is being treated like a criminal when in reality she is the victim! The social security office is completely incompetent and needs to fix this. I feel that she needs not only FULL resolution to this problem, which she is a victim of, but some serious compensation for all of those years she has been stuck at home wanting to work. Also, any advice on this would be GREATLY appreciated.

The person called Direct Express back and said I had a new address to mail the debit card to. The card was mailed to an address in Florida (I live in Alaska) and the money withdrawn the same day it was deposited. Direct Express has no record of what information was given to make this change (no notes, no recorded call, nothing) so I don't feel comfortable they did their due diligence in information gathering. They told me they ask for name, address and social security number and "maybe other" information but they CAN NOT tell me what information they received in my case.
Secondly and most importantly, they changed the mailing address to Florida without a CONFIRMATION from Social Security. They had an "on hold" purchase for this debit card for a purchase from Microsoft for $59.99 when I called so I told them not to approve it and they said I had to let the charge go through then call back to dispute it. When I called back to dispute (as they requested) I was told that I shouldn't have been told that. The charge went through with them knowing the debit card was issued to someone else using my identity. On this same call (my second) they told me my claim was denied, they had done nothing wrong. When I asked how I could get my money back they said to contact the owners of the ATM machine used. When I said "Really!!" they said the police would get my deposit back.
A week later I received a pack of paperwork from them to fill out regarding fraud so I called and asked "If my claim was denied do I still need to send in this paperwork." I was told they cannot talk to me or answer any questions. I asked to speak to someone in their fraud department and after being put on hold, I was told they couldn't/wouldn't talk to me. This company has a contract to issue debit cards for our government and I think they need their feet held to the fire for documentation, policy and customer service. If a business owner has a complaint filed against them by the BBB or the Attorney General they sure better have some notes and documentation to back up their side of the issue so why shouldn't this business.

I have a lifetime restraining order on this man for physical and emotional abuse. Everything. She spent a couple nights at his house and he brain washed her to go to SSI and tell them to stop me as a payee and to have him be it. That's how sick this man is!!! And the messed up thing is that SSI did. Crazy. I immediately called after I received the letter in the mail and questioned my daughter and she said her dad made her do it. Can't SSI see through things like that?? See the abuse he is doing to my poor baby girl. I need to keep her away from him because obviously he hasn't changed his maliciousness and using my baby to do that. Sick sick sick.
Anyways I called SSI and said I have full custody. She lives with me and has for all these years. How can they just have someone walk in and change something like that. The guy said there isn't anything he could do. I asked for fax number to send the worker my legal document in which I did stating I have full custody and the worker never got back to me so I called back next day and the guy hung up on me so rudely so I called right back and got the same man in which was so very rude and said there's nothing I can do to change it. I'm devastated by the system of the SSI. So now the money to take care of my daughter is going to an evil man that should not get a thing as he has never helped me to take care of her to this day. I was discriminated with social security in 2006 when I should of had a lawsuit. I was given something in my vein and I was pregnant. I was told MRSA but who knows. I got no lawsuit in NY. I also got unfounded child abuser that I was unaware of until recently where I was labeled bipolar. The child was taken because I was going to do something because I was a single mother. All lies! Coerced to Florida, I got ssdi. I had a life threatening illness. Now I wrote up with social security one time what my goal was if I was going to do trial to work. They used that against me.
In 2012 when I was going to attempt to do trial to work, I had the review. So-called friends adamant of me, not wanting a car, using my emotions to coerce in a retirement problems for me and not for them. I had a psychiatrist in Pasco county who was botoxed tell me that my benefits were going to continue. However he lied and social security gave me an over-payment over 10 grand.
I went to a woman administrative hearing judge who actually was using anything I say to get me. For instance, knew I had a P.O box so she told me two weeks for an answer. That was in November of 2013. Then decides she needs more information and has me see a psychiatrist December 23, 2013. I was told two weeks. I was running back and forth to the post office. The judge was trying to make me look postal. Well I called the toll free social security and they would tell me a month here. Then I would call again and a month here. July 3, 2014 I was given a denial. This judge ran me out of my savings. She left me broke. Also she misrepresented my character assuming I was on pot and cocaine. I guess she wanted me 400 pounds to be disabled. All fabricated lies. I knew lawyers on drugs so I do not know where she was coming from with these conclusions.
The last lawyer made copies of this paperwork did not take this case again and kept the paperwork. Talking of getting furniture delivered in Pasco county. In Pasco county I want no one having false information. A bunch of using people. Now I got a lawyer, the lawyer made a new claim. The adjudicator in Florida was also playing a role of complete control problems. I was given work history forms, functional forms, medical forms, medical disclosure forms. I filled all these forms in a timely manner, 10 days deadline. The adjudicator claims he never got the work history forms which is a great deal of forms.
I went to a small post office in Hudson. In fact the first time I mailed the forms the lady helped me fit them in the small envelope. Since I am living day to day. The second time I filled out these timely forms. I fit them in the small envelope alone. Then I got on the phone with the adjudicator, a letter was sent to me for additional information. He stated he never received any of the forms and wanted me to do them all over again, all of them. I told him I live day to day, he stated the deadline was tomorrow. Well I was not going to have the money that soon. I was ran out of my money. He lied. Then he goes to say he needed the functional reports. First he stated all of them and wanted me to fax all the paperwork which was many, many pages to him. Where was I going to get the money? He asked me about additional issues. I told him about getting a newspaper wrapper wrapped around my ankles running across the highway. Collar bone etc.
I have bipolar paperwork from NY. I have a lump on my head that the general dr knew about. There was chiropractic information. Trying to figure out where he received no information. He laughed when I lost my child and was blackballed and I told him it was not funny. I can make a decision at anytime. I told him to make a decision so he did it before thanksgiving. The due date was December 25 to get the denial. I think there is a cultural issue. Catholic and Jewish. I am guessing anti-Semitic. I owe a college loan, I have to pay them back, something is wrong. To continue an appeal is really a question about having rights to trial to work right, not to be used and controlled.

I have had the worse experience of legal procedure that should be conducted in a fairly manner. Even my attorney being present. The hearing judge listen in with his hand press to his face during the hold time. My attorney advised him that I had another doctor appointment the day following the hearing. It was granted because they needed more medical records. But, to my surprise it was not granted because they only used medical records prior to the appeal. It goes like this the decision was made for my medical records dated 8-4-2014, my hearing was 8-13-2014, doctor apt 8-14-2014 not continue for more medical records. And they denied my appeal. How could you put so much trust in the system when if they don't want more medical records to make a final decision. But, choose to make the decision and dated it for 9-30-2014. It was all on the tape that was recorded to continue. How does this happen?
Now my attorney has sent me a letter that she can't handle this appeal due to a family emergency matter. Could this be why I need to get in Criminal Law just to see how corrupt the social security disability hearing judge could sign this approval. Go figure, it's time to take more medicine.

I have one child with severe autism and severe aggression and she needs constant one on one, so there is times I need to call him on a daily basis to help keep the kids safe from getting injured from her.
Well they started to investigate me and said he lives here when he in fact does not. On August 19, 2014 I have mailed in my original passport and divorce decree as requested by the local social security office off of Lakes At 610 Drive, Houston, in order to get my name changed back to my maiden name. I received my newly issued social security card at the end of the month of August. Since It's been almost a month and not receiving my original documents back, I called and spoke to Ms. **. After being on the phone with her for over an hour she couldn't find my original documents or know where it was. She then took my name and number and told me she was going to talk to her supervisor.
After not hearing from her for a week, I then called again the following week to get more information. I was then put on hold while she was getting information from her supervisor. It was apparent that she never investigated my case at all. She finally got on the phone and told me that it was sent out and that it was nothing else she could do for me. So I spoke to her supervisor Ms. **, and she told me the same thing.
I am very disappointed with this office losing my most important documents. Now it is my problem and my headache having to deal with this. It's absolutely critical for me to get those documents back because I also have to change my driver's license and important other things. I'm very very concern someone has my passport or is using my passport. They need to investigate this matter further and not blow me off like it's not their problem. I really need to hear from this office to assure me that this matter will be handled.

I have dealt with my office for years on several issues. Sometimes when I read horror stories of others, it's always someone else's fault. I have sat in a lobby listening to our general public and the manipulation that they scheme. Maybe take a day for the heck of it and just listen to folks around you, it's a joke! I have had a great experience with my local office, my caseworker is a wonderful gentleman and very compassionate when my parents both passed. I have dealt with them for years.
My mom was a cancer victim and of course was denied the first time, but as my caseworker told me, READ why she was denied, it was no fault of SSA. It accurately told me my mother's DOCTOR did not submit the reports they requested. Once I found that out by reading the notice, I went and requested her records myself, filed my appeal and submitted the report myself as evidence. I had no issues, she was approved.
People over and over told me get a attorney. What for? The attorney does Nothing on your behalf unless you go to a hearing, then they appear to the judge, so why would I give him money for doing nothing? I have listened to so many stories sitting in their lobby, it was mind blowing! People getting SSI not reporting wages, or married and not telling, not paying bills and living for free, work under the table and sooooo much more. I wish Congress would really evaluate that program, seriously! And we wonder why our country has no money, go figure!
I am very fortunate to never have any issues with them. I know what they go through daily can't be too pleasant and I commend them for what they do! I know I could never do that work, I don't think I would have the patience to deal with our public who come in with their hand out because they're too lazy to work. Yes, I said lazy! Don't twist this up, there are some who need that SSI because maybe they never got the option to work, or maybe couldn't work. I know there are some that truly deserve it and in the same note, there are many who do not. I have read through several of these postings and I find it amazing that you worked but you're disabled? Seriously? And now you're mad that you're overpaid? That makes no sense at all!

I have been on SSI for 2 years now. Nothing has changed since my lawyer got my benefits for me. My family has put me thru court proceedings for almost a year. They were caught lying and after they lost two weeks after, my payee gets a letter stating to come in and bring me also. The worker started acting like we were liars. We brought in the taxes like she asked and included was a promissory note between me and my soon-to-be ex-husband. She said it was too convenient to have brought that in. If wanting the taxes, of course, you are going to bring in the note when your are paying a loan back for a lawyer.
The tax return went straight into his account. She asked me questions about my income. I told her I get what SSI gives me and that's it. She goes on to accuse me again of lying. She then fills out answers to questions that later on my payee noticed after asking for a copy since she DID not even have us look over in the office. My payee asked for another appointment. We go in and correct what the worker falsely put down. She goes on to tell us about her and her ex-husband which I really didn't care about.
We asked if I was under investigation since my payee figured out what the form was. I do not live with legal spouse, I do not publicly state we are together and we do not live together. She stated we DID and there was proof. My payee sent in letter from soon to be ex-spouse stating he DID not live with me. A statement from his father whom lived with neighbors, letters and court papers showing I've been harassed by family members which one is a police officer whom I think falsely accused me.
My payee DID her part, sent in letters, lease rent receipts. Nothing in my claim has changed except for being falsely accused of fraud. The worker has treated me like a guilty person from the start of this. When asked today what's the accusation due to one second, it's about tax return then was told it's about whom I live with. When asked her which is it, her reply was "a little bit of everything and I am making my decision today".
SS workers are suppose to help us especially when someone lies on us. We shouldn't be treated like criminals over a vengeful family. I'm waiting for the letter which I am sure she terminated my benefits now. I won't have my medicine for PTSD borderline personality and manic depressive bipolar and kidney issues and I have no money for a lawyer to fight for me in the appeal.

I applied for Social Security Disability in 2009 after an injury in 2008 that I received on the job. I filed only after I exhausted all efforts for relief and help through workman's compensation. Of course I got denied the first time as I was only stating that my disability was my cervical spine and my left shoulder. I fell and twisted my neck the wrong way and shoved everything in my left shoulder in the wrong direction. The result of that fall was I had to under go a cervical fusion of C5 through C7 in my neck and I will lose use of my left arm as there is no fix for it.
Well that case got denied all the way up to federal and then the attorney I had said "we don't do federal you will need to find one that will". So with that being said I went to another attorney and started all over as he would not touch the case unless he did it from start to finish. And to NO surprise I was denied again. My attorney appealed it as usual. We went to the appeals hearing in Sept of 2012, and was denied again. Seems to be the story of my life at this point. Filed another appeal and a briefing was told that it would take 12 to 14 months for the hearing to come up. Well today I received a letter from the Appeals court in New Falls, Virginia and I live in Pennsylvania. I got NO hearing and was flat out denied AGAIN.
However things have changed greatly health wise for me. I ended up getting the cervical fusion, as a result of that surgery ended up with a paralyzed right vocal cord and nerve damage to my right arm now. Nothing can be done for either. In March of 2013 I was diagnosed with Spinal bifida in my lower back. In Nov. of 2013 I found out I have a birth defect in my heart from having a preventive cat done due to family history and my age. As a result of that I found out I have a birth defect that was never caught, I have a split aorta and that resulted in a stent being put into my heart and my cardiologists telling me not to have a heart attack as I have a slim chance of living through it. I also had my gall bladder removed two weeks later, which I know has no bearing on disability.
I am sooooo angry at the government. My family doctor says NO for me going to back to work, says my body won't withstand the pain and the amount of meds to even take the edge off so I can work would make it impossible for me to do any job as it will make me drowsy. I have trouble standing, sitting and walking, I'm in pain every day all day between my neck, arms and back and legs and yet social security can't seem to visualize the big picture. My whole life has changed since I fell at work in 2008 and it doesn't seem to matter.
On top of all the things physically I suffer from asthma and migraines. I've also been diagnosed with depression because of all of this. I have no income or anything, can't get any help and I don't know what to do, I feel cheated, abused, neglected by my government and I feel this isn't fair. It angers me to know that someone can walk into the admin office and say they are depressed and bi-polar and SSA says oh here is your disability and it's been approved and then you have actual people like myself that have legitimate disabilities and they get denied time after time. Every update evaluation I submit the documents. The only months they ask for are the months with 31days, calendar year (January, March, May, July, August, October, and December). The calendar year has been of existence since 46 BC. Social Security has send me a letter stating I have an over payment because of the months with 31days. My son is 17 years old, you would have thought they would resolve this matter years ago.
I have visited the center at least 3 times every time it is on the months mention above. I spoke with several case workers and requested a reconciliation and won. On December 12, 2013, I saw a caseworker and he explained that all the case workers I saw never processed the paper work and past the buck to someone else. He said he made the correction and I should not receive any more letters in the mail. On March 2014, I received a letter in the mail saying I owe SSI $400-plus for over payments due to the 31day in a month. The SSI is telling me to pay or they will reduce my son’s check to $475. This is ridiculous.
I called, personally went to the center and 4 years later they still have not corrected the mistake. My next move is to write a complaint and request a court day to sue and an investigation to the SSI center to see how many other parents they are penalizing and making them pay for an adjustment the center refuses to change. I want to make this quick as possible, because the wounds are still very fresh, painful and full of salt. I have been railroad by the Social Security Administration for 4 years and counting now. I am getting sicker just like everyone else has mentioned here. I was straight across the board mistreated unjustly by the first judge I had... and best yet, his so called report of findings after my hearing... were about 85 percent wrong. Oh yes per the first part of the report, the committee found my disabilities of severe and valid nature - in other words I meet all their games. But funny how after all this was said, the judge came along and gave me a totally different disability/illness... that he said was treated and under control for quite some time - so therefore he stated that the illness was not even to be classified as a disability!!!!
I have never been diagnosed or treated for the illness he stated. There was only one note in my entire file from old - that stated the doctor was checking me for Thyroid/Hyperthyroidism - only due to some of the other health problems that I was having. Lo and behold, I was negative... and at that she repeated this thyroid test for the next 6 months just to make sure and totally rule it out! Well you know - it was ruled out, never had it, never treated for it! Well to sum this up, the judge not only stated this information totally wrong, but he continued to bash, slander and label myself and others involved in my care - as not credible. Talk about humiliated by such mistakes... How about lies!
Did he have how many files all mixed up with how many different people? It was sickening... and the best part is that on top of that, I also ended up with lousy attorneys. So now... I am fighting still - and still being thrown away like yesterday's garbage. He violated my rights, slandered me and others... and that's okay! Well it seems to be okay in their eyes... but we all know it's not! I'm stuck too... but I know I will find the right way I hope. Because thanks to this bad judge - had has literally ruined my life, caused me to lose everything and I am one step now from homeless. I mean really - this, to me, is manslaughter!

I have been experiencing problems with the local Social Security Office for more years than I care to remember. I have been brought to tears by some of the responses and the lack of urgency or lack of responsibility that it seems that you encounter. I most recently called in regards to a situation that I was told had been taken care of in February, only to be told that it was not. I was advised that although I was sure of the conversation they were not and that the office manager was to be out for the entirety of the week. I had an urgent matter that needed to be addressed immediately. To wait for another week would cause me more problems. Why is it that no one was able to figure out what was going on? Could it be so far fetched that the documents were misplaced since yet again there was no documentation of not only this call but the documents that I turned in? Oh no, one could never conceive of the fact that The great Social Security Administration would ever make an error; although this is not the first time that there has been no documentation of something that has happened and been done by this office.
The representative that I last spoke with was armed with so much partial information that she rattled it off to me and I am sure was extremely pride of the fact that she "handled" me and would be able to sit back with her chest cocked proudly while others would sit around and continue to explain how I had spoken to "everyone" and they saw the complaint and had gone through it and got it as if I were wrong to voice my opinion in regards to mistreatment or ill treatment. The disdain and mannerism of which she gave me all of the information that she had been armed with during our 56 minute hold/tongue lashing reduced me to tears as I knew that this would be the outcome yet again.
I was then advised that I would be transferred back to the same manager that I had spoken with earlier and placed on hold yet again. Well I guess he was done with me for as he said earlier he was going to call me back yesterday and he did. He left the office at 4:00 p.m and called me back at 3:58, he called me though. I am not even sure where to go from here. This last conversation has been so draining and has left me in a deeper hole than when I started out. Something has got to be done about the level of service and treatment that one receives when dealing with the kinds of issues. There has to be a way to get service without feeling like you have been in battle..

Why is this 100% "Service-Connected" (1987) DISABLED American Veteran still fighting the SSA for ssdi benefits when they determined disability in 1991? Because the SSA LACKS OBJECTIVITY / ACCOUNTABILITY / OVERSIGHT!
The ALJ Failed to follow established law, and, on remand, refused to comply with the directive: REMOVE the mechanical grid. Instead, the ALJ attempted to REINFORCE the grid using a deceptive practice (MMPI) contrary to published experts who report that the MMPI is "INAPPROPRIATE" for people suffering with non-exertional impairments, like me. I have repeatedly asked Debra Bice, Chief ALJ, ODAR for a Fair & Impartial Decision Review of my old case. She passed the buck after much delay to the Kansas City, MO office where she claimed was the appropriate office. They passed the buck to the Peoria, IL ODAR office where it has been languishing since last year.
Where is the "EXPEDITED PROCESSING"??? I have written to Carolyn Colvin & Debra Bice to no avail. ALJ David Thompson of the Peoria ODAR office wrote to say that he will order the SSA file but attempted to get a DELAY PASS by stating that he needed my VA records. His questionable rush to this decision gives me pause to question his lack of objectivity. I see this as another delay tactic. I have repeatedly asked for a Fair & Impartial review to CORRECT THE CLEAR & UNMISTAKABLE "ERRORS" in the SSA files. I have sent proof of the VA's 100% Service-Connected" Disability rating and offered to send more info IF they would be specific, but even this is really unnecessary as the "ERRORS" in the SSA case are enough, CLEAR & UNMISTAKABLE.
How can I have any confidence in this new ALJ when he makes pre-mature statements like he has ? Worse" The SSA sent me a letter yesterday stating that IF I want expedited processing, I need to share my retroactive benefits with a lawyer or draft a legal brief proving that I have financial need. It was not signed, but it has the office SSA letterhead. WHERE IS THE OVERSIGHT / ACCOUNTABILITY ? PLEASE SHARE THIS WITH WHOM IT SHOULD CONCERN.

I have been trying to straighten out a problem my husband is having with his Medicare prescription drug costs. Today, I called Soc Security to follow up on the case and see if anything had been resolved yet. The Soc Sec worker I spoke to was positively hateful. I was very taken aback by the rude and condescending attitude she took with me from the very start of our conversation, because the other workers I have spoken to over the last couple of days have been so courteous and pleasant. This woman was very put off with me because she got my call "by accident". She was not supposed to get any more calls as she was going on break in order to go to a "meeting".
I was taking up her time and she missed the "meeting" and she was not happy about it. Every time I tried to speak she said "No! you're not listening to me", and then proceeded to yell over me. Then she accused ME of cutting HER off and told ME to stop yelling at HER. I couldn't ask or say anything without her getting very irritated with me and screaming that I was not listening to her. When I asked her how we were supposed to afford paying for my husband's prescription until the error was fixed, she said it was not her job to help me. When I asked her for her name she said, seething with hate and very condescendingly "My name is Sabrina. I'm with the Philadelphia call center! I told you that at the beginning of the phone call and if you had been listening you would already know my name!" She had me in tears before I hung up.

My husband served in the army for 8 years, worked several other jobs from his ten years and paid in social security until he became disabled. He filed for his Social Security Disability 2 times and they denied him. He receives 100% VA Disability. And because he has been disabled for so long, he is short 4 points to receive his SS Retirement.
So my question to you is, why does he not get the money he paid in back??? If he owed IRS or if it was reversed. They would want their money back. I receive his check in my name, that is why I am contacting you for him. Someone needs to make the SS pay back all those Americans that paid in and can not receive retirement all the money they paid in. Unless that person himself received some kind of SSI themselves. And he did not.

I called SSA to get some info on a payment due to me for the month. The lady was so rude to me on the phone! She started off by cutting me off every time I tried telling her why I was calling. All she kept saying was, "What is your question?" When I went to explain my situation and then ask my question she got so mad!! All she wanted was a question from me. She then got an attitude and said, "Uh-uh...no! WHAT IS YOUR QUESTION??" I finally had to hang up before I said something I would have regretted. How can people that work for our government treat us so poorly?? Who the hell are they hiring?? I work in customer service and if I talked to a customer like that, I would be fired on the spot!! I still have to call back and who knows what kind of person I will get this time. This is the 2nd time I have had to deal with these rude, obnoxious people. 2 calls in 2 months and they both were horrible. Thank you for listening. Rant over.

I was awarded total disability in April 2013. My back pay was reduced because of w/c offsets which had ended over a year earlier and my monthly pay was established upon the w/c offset amount. Not only have I been living on 1/3 less each month than I am entitled to, I have yet to receive my full back pay, less the actual months when I was receiving w/c. It is now time to file 2013 taxes and I received a SSA statement INCLUDING the w/c offsets as part of my income! I am in litigation with my self-insured employer and it will not settle until after April 15th assuming that SSA is waiting for my lawsuit to settle before they release my back pay or adjust my monthly amount. So come April 15th, I will either face fines from the IRS because I can't pay taxes on $20,000 that I have never received, or I will be forced to borrow money to pay the taxes so I can loan it the US Treasury.
SSA has placed me in a very bad position. I asked if they could issue me a statement with the unreleased monies not posted as part of my income. They say that they can't do that. Apparently they can't settle this in almost a year's time either despite me providing them with the court records that show that I was denied worker's comp in July 2012. So the bottom line is: I have been living on very little exhausting my savings account since 2012, only to receive SSD in 2013, but only 2/3 of my awarded amount, then I get to pay taxes on money that has been held back for a prolonged period of time. Got to love this governmental system! Do they pay interest on my held-back monies? I am sure it won't cover what I have to pay in interest to "loan" the IRS, or I guess I could just chose jail... 3 meals per day and medical. I do need to have another surgery soon. Maybe jail is my best option...(?)

I had been a victim of ID theft and in June of 2013 I had to go into my local SSA office to put a fraud alert on my account to where only changes can be made in the office. I changed my direct deposit information.and my checks went to the correct account. December I did not receive my check so I went into the local office and they said that on Oct.of 2013 someone requested my check go to my old account. I asked the supervisor who and when she said she did not see what office the change was made. I advised her at that time that I did not come into any office and make that change. Once again I gave her my correct bank information and she rudely said she would put it in the computer and I would have to deal with my bank about the check that went to the old account.
I was sent a letter stating I was underpaid and I would be receiving $3680.00 to be deposited into the bank I had requested. I called my bank and no deposit so I waited a few days and called Social Security back and I found out that the supervisor that was so rude did not do her job. My account information was never changed to my correct account. I went to another office and had a supervisor changed my information and we called my bank and my bank confirmed. I did not have access to the account and the account would be closed. Well January check went to the old bank account and I have called SSA over and over again to get hung up on and now because I stated on the phone I would come into the office to speak to someone rather than get hung up on, they said I made a threat and I'm banned from all SSA offices. Still have not received December.

Then 11/11 got a demand for all medical information to be to them in 4 days - unreasonable because they also wanted job info. My boss sent back info that it takes 7-10 days to process that. I only received on letter stating my benefits would resume in Jan 34 dollars never saw it and full in Feb.
Something made me check their site on 1/31 and they had me at 0. Put in a call to them, found out they were shipping out letter 2/4 that I would only be getting 611 not full amount, put in a return call and they explained they had to take out all medicare premiums at once - when I found out they were behind 4 months on premiums from my supplemental insurance. Then I find out they are just now sending medical review to Columbus 2 months after the fact? This was second in 1 yr. I am paying for their screw up???

My husband was an electrician for over 35 years and yes he was a blue collar worker and enjoyed his job very much. June 30, 2011 6:22 am, 15 min from the job he got into a bad car accident where he was air-lifted to the county trauma center with severe head trauma and severe spinal cord injuries. Although he had insurance though his employer, I could not help but wonder about LTDI through S.S. but I was told by Prudential Ins that was who the employer was with.
The very first call that I received from them I was going to ask but the lady would not let me finish. She said “Look Mrs ** this is how it is going to be, it is our job to research and see where Mr ** would benefit the best and WE made the decision that he will benefit better with us.” At that point I had thought that should be our decision. But in Sept 2013, his LTD through Prudential stopped - 2,800 a month. March 2013, I began to contact Social Security about my husband drawing LTD through them. That is when I seen for my own eyes that the government personnel has no ETHICS/INTEGRITY/MORALS/NOTHING. I was and still am being lied to, sidestepped, hung up on, called names, etc. AND FOR THE RECORD, I KNOW MY CALLS WERE NOT RECORDED.
The first reason I was given was they told me my husband had an on-going pension which was a life-time policy (WHICH WAS THE FIRST LIE). About 3 months later I tried calling back and was told he was too old. The third time I called back I was told no one can draw LTD and S.S. retirement. What part do they not understand HE WAS FORCED INTO RETIRING in 2010? This while on the job his employer told him. He was now old enough to collect his S.S. and work so that was the plan.
And I would like this to go on record. Why in the hell do people as the government make it so hard for a person to get what is owed to them and I mean not trying to get something for free. My husband has well and beyond enough credits that he paid in for over 35 years. THESE people act as if they are writing you a check from their personal accounts. RUDE, I have in the past contacted my congressman (1998) MR BILL THOMAS and let me tell you that man helped me hands on me him and Billy-Jo. I will never as long as I live forget them. Today I did try, I will not list who that was because they did not help me. However, I do hope some congressman reads this. For over 3 years, I have been sick. My first hearing I received an unfavorable decision like a week later. I was treated so bad I decided to file a complaint. My case was remanded back to court and approximately 2 years later, I had a new hearing. My new hearing was 6/2013. I received my second unfavorable decision on 12/3/2013.
1. My case was based more on what the doctors said that disability sent me to and not my medical records. I have doctors that are specialists and had 3 primary physicians and 7 therapists that have a ton of medical records. They sent me to their doctors and did not give them any medical records other than a random report from the Emergency Room.
2. Inaccurate information from the disability doctors was used in making their decision. My mental evaluation doctor said I used my Social Security card as ID and that I was driving and not licensed. NOT TRUE!! Then she stated I was tested by her and THAT NEVER HAPPENED. I asked the judge for her to give them proof of my testing or to not use her evaluation in my hearing. NOTHING WAS DONE. I recently filed a complaint against her with the State Psychologist. Another one of their doctors wrote down my weight as 10 pounds lighter than I was. I wish that was true. I've gained weight because of my difficulty with fumes/breathing which makes it difficult to exercise or get around.
3. I was asked about previous therapy and stated I was seen by this one office for 4 months. They have all my records from 1/2010 thru 2012 in which I was still in therapy but they use the information I gave them to make it look like I wasn't seeking help other than for the 4 months I mentioned. Therefore, I must not be that sick!!! A recent trip to E/R revealed I have shrinkage of brain cells.
4. I feel they need to go back and look at the millions of people that have been approved who are not really sick and make them pay those benefits back.
5. I feel that because I have one more year of my meager retirement money from a company I worked for as an employee for 4 1/2 years is being used against me. I feel they think, "Well she has income for another year so let's deny her and see what she does"!! I paid into this system for 40 years and is sick and the treatment I get from them makes me wish I could move to another country!!
6. One day, one of your family members will get sick and yes, you may also get sick. We shouldn't have to fight 3-5 years for what is rightfully ours.
7. I feel that if someone is applying for disability, why don't you use their doctors' reports rather than send us to their doctors who I personally think feels as though they owe them to report negatively. They must be stopped from hurting us and causing us more pain and suffering!!

She has some savings money of her own and the last year I deposited $10,000 of her money in my direct deposit SSI account because her 60-year old home needed to be repaired. When I went to the SSI office yesterday, the lady wanted to know how much my two vehicles were worth. Both cars almost 20 years old and she came up they were worth $4000. She then wanted me to get my bank statement for the year.
I should not have put my mom's money in my account to pay the contractors to fix my mother's home but too late now. SSI is my only income I receive, nothing else so I'm sure I will be living under a bridge soon after they see there is still about $4,000 dollars in my personal account that's my mom's but the money is my mom's, not mine. Ok, interview went well. Lady she needed his Gerber Grow up plan since I stated he had one. Ok dropped it off that same day. At the office they told me, "Expect to receive his first check, back pay and award letter soon since his grow up plan has no cash value." Waited a week I decided to give them a call. Lady on phone was very rude and told me no one could had given me the information I just gave her because his claim still been process and hung up the phone. I called right back and another rep. told me that he had been approved as of 9/23 but still was been process and to give it another week ok.
I had to go to SSA office to take care of some stuff so I ask if they could give me stat. of my son's application. Ms. ** called me back and told me that I needed to go ASAP to the office that was handling my son's case because as of 10/18 it had been closed out, meaning no activity. I left that office and drove 45 min. to our local office. The person that has his case could not see us. So another rep. came out and told me that there was a problem with my SS# and that it was holding up the case. I was a victim of Identity theft and fraud back in 2008 in 2009. SSA granted me a new SS#. And because of this and me not matching what is on file, my son will not be able to get his SSI payment until everything is taken care of. They had to send out the case to be verified by credit reporting agency. HUH??? Why is that if they were the ones that gave me a new social she told me give it another week?
Ok. Called back on 10/25 lady on phone told me she could not give me no information on my son since I was not his rep. "Payee WHAT??? Am his mother." Got the phone hung up on me again. Called back on 10/29 lady on phone told me they had just gotten word from credit report and they were sending claim out for payment and to give it a few day should be deposited in to bank account by 11/1. Ok waiting game again. On Nov 4 I gave them a call again to see what had happened. They told me they still have not been able to add me as a rep payee and that what the other person had told me was wrong. She stated and I quote, "EVERYTHING LOOK GOOD ON OUR END IF YOU DON'T RECEIVE ANYTHING BY THE 9TH OF NOVEMBER GIVE US A CALL BUT EVERYTHING SHOULD BE FINE." HUH? Didn't she just tell me they weren't able to add me as a rep. payee?
My mother always told me not to count my eggs before they hatch but I am in great need. Electric company threatening to shut me off, is getting cold and my kids are in need of coats and boots. No I do not get help from their father some of us aren't so lucky/blessed all he cares about is his new wife and his picture perfect family when he got 7 other kids running around. I know poor judgement on my part but hey love is blind. But back to SSA they are just playing games they do not keep good notes on the accounts. If people wouldn't need it we wouldn't be trying to get help. I get upset because one of the reps that I talk to made a very rude remark about me. She told me instead of calling I waste her time and tie her up. "Why I didn't get a job and not try to live of my child?" Believe me if I could work I would work first of all.
I am a single mother of four wonderful handsome boys all of which have medical needs. My 2 year old has central hearing loss, does not talk and is fully dependable of me. He gets speech therapy twice a week, physical therapy once a week. My 6 year old had Autism, ADHD, Asthma, speech delays. My 9 year twins one has been in and out of the hospital with breathing problems due to his chronic asthma was in ICU for over a week, suffers from seizures, has missed 33 school days due to this. My other 9 year old twin has seizures, diabetes and ADHD. How am I supposed to work with all my kids been sick out of 5 days a week?
I get call about 3 days to come pick up one of the 3 in school due to their chronic illness. I myself suffer from diabetes, HBP, high cholesterol, depression, anxiety, back problems, severe sleep apnea and low oxygen desaturation. I have to manage a total of 33 medications a day between my boys and myself and she has the audacity to tell me to go get a job. Some of us do really need the help. I am taking this time out of my busy and frustrating day to comment on my experience, my interpretations, and in my view, the treatment, abuse, mistreatment and the method used by your local Social Security Administration Office in Toledo Ohio located on Four Seagate to humiliate and harass me and my family. I receive SSI for my son who experiences Sickle-Cell Anemia. He, age 17, a 12th grade High School Student, works part-time (State Law) at McDonald's for approx. 2 or 3 days a week and receives minimum wage. I say all of this because in mid-August 2013, I personally went in for a face-to-face interview with 2 Agents explaining my income, his expected income and all aspects of my and his personal information.
During the interview, I informed them that my son had just picked up a part time job at McDonald's and would not be working more than 2 or 3 days and was receiving only minimum wage. I also informed them that he had not received a paycheck as of yet. The Agent, led by her Mentor instructed me to send in a copy of my son's payroll stubs monthly but his benefits amount, and I quote, "will not be affected" mainly and largely due to him being a student and the hours and amount. I agreed to comply with the monthly notices and we concluded our interview. Consequently, no more than a week went by and I received a Re-determination Letter or really novel from Agent Mr. ** (dated 31 August 13) stating that his payments-benefits will be reduced by more than $300.00 starting 10/01/13 because my son made $680.00 that month in income on his new part time job. A job from which he hadn't received 1 single solitary paycheck.
As a matter of fact, on or around 9/08/12, he received his first paycheck of $69.00. It really amazed me and made me feel I had been stabbed in the back by the initial Agents and more so by Mrs. ** & Rep Mr. ** who both bolstered, exaggerated and merely lied about my son's income. With my formal complaint based on mere facts, Agent ** and her Mentor, Agent ** initially, fabricated, dreamed up, and manufactured those numbers. There's no way possible, even by State Law (an underage student) that my son could ever and have ever made that type of money. However, Rep. **, my actual Case Manager should have known my son's income was incorrect, still was allowed to go along with the baseless claim, and go continue to go out of his way to abuse his power simply to inconvenience my family and me should be unacceptable. Rep **, Rep. **, Rep ** and his supervisor Mr. ** at the Toledo Local Office should be held responsible. Nevertheless, it could and will create a financial hardship for all people concerned.
This I am Reporting to the Deputy Commissioner of Operations, Mrs. **, that the Toledo Local Office has a reputation of fostering a very nasty and mean climate of poor customer service. Many staff there are not friendly and very rarely smile. They are very condescending and rude. The 2nd to last Agent (male) I conducted my one on one with I had to threaten to write him and his supervisor up because of his rude nature and disrespectful, connotations and attitude. Sadly but his white male supervisor supported his bad attitude and misconduct. I remember vividly when I decided to write a formal complaint how they both laughed it off and took it lightly.
I received a call from supposedly the supervisor of this office and he again took me for granted and minimized what had happened and how I felt. Most staff I dealt with including the Head Supervisor- Manager in charge, Rep ** and the last male agent I had, need some more extensive training in the areas of race relations - social skills, sensitivity training, customer service training, ethics, and respect. The Rep at the Local call center on 9/11/13 approx. 11:30 am that would not give me his name, nor allow me to speak to a supervisor hung the phone up in my face. He was the Rep who informed me that Mr ** performed my Letter dated 8/31/13. He was also the Rep who made the comment to my daughter who later called back (because he hung the phone up on me) to make progress to speak to a supervisor, who boldly, and hassled my daughter and would not let her call get through either insisting that she was no more than my girlfriend. To assume, make snap judgement, racial profiling and trying to match phone calls is not in his job description I hope. More so it's really none of his business and shouldn't matter. So absurd, unprofessional, chaotic and a waste of taxpayers money!
I along with my family and others I have spoken to in the waiting area and abroad seem to all get the same feeling about the climate, poor professional attitude and conduct of most of the staff and management at this location. Ethics, codes of conduct, respect, giving the customers access to comment on the services that are provided on a daily basis is just not heard of at this site and should be. Maybe that would curve some of the mistreatment and nasty attitudes at this local office. Lastly, on or about 9/11/13, I responded to Mr. ** in writing giving him the documentation the Rep (White Male, wouldn't give his name) on 9/11/12 approx. 11:30 am stated he needed my son's income from his job for the month of August 2013, and a document showing he is enrolled in school. I sent in a printout of his official online pay-stub for McDonald's employees (showing his entire pay for the month of 8/13).
His original pay check stub was lost by McDonald's Mgmt Staff and this was the only thing he could access at the time so that his benefits would not be interrupted 10/1/13. The other document I had sent him was a 2013 SAT Score exhibiting his High School and the date the exam was taken. I sent those documents in the day after I learned what he claimed he had needed. On 9/12/13, he calls me back and states it's not enough. I'm really tired of the mistreatment, abuse and harassment! Could someone please give me a call from the Region and/or Headquarters on all this reckless and unnecessary harassment and mayhem. I just feel based on my son's age, personal information, history and income that the local office has already obtained he should not have ever been hassled, nor his income lowered automatically.
Lastly, this agent in particular, has my son's job information, and access to his school records, if he wants to know that bad, or if it's a part of his responsibility to get it, why doesn't he either call the school and request it, and the same for his job. Don't force me to do their and/or his job. Then you abuse your authority by inconveniencing me, threatening me to reduce his benefits if I don't get you the information that is right there in your lazy face! I don't think that this maneuver, habit, and way to conduct Social Security Business is fair to me or to the taxpayers who pay for his salary... In my view, "They need to just stop being so lazy and abusive to customers". Please respond to me by email or in writing at the address above. Signed, please help and save me!

I am a 73-year-old senior and veteran. In June 2013 the Social Security Administration sent me a demand letter saying they overpaid me $3,900. Get this, fully eight (8) years ago (2005)! And if I don't pay them IN 30 DAYS, they will start withholding my monthly benefit checks. But here's the real clincher: In the introductory paragraph of their letter, they say later in the letter they will explain how they determined I owe them this amount; but guess what, there was no explanation whatsoever in their letter as to how they arrived at this $3,900!
One would think that if they went to the trouble to compute this amount, surely they could attach a copy of their computations to the letter. But no, their attitude is seemingly "you are guilty until you can prove yourself innocent. And by the way, we're not going to give you any of the evidence we have, unless of course you request it, in which case you will have to fill out additional forms, etc, etc."
Interestingly enough, even though I sent them the form they requested, they still took money out of my benefit check. And would you believe it has now been almost 2 months since SSA received their form I sent via certified mail requesting an accounting of how they arrived at the $3,900 - this from people who expect me to cough up the $3,900 in 30 days! I am making this post because I read quite a few other posts like mine from folks who have been treated badly by SSA. If I could give you any advice it would be to conduct all your dealings with SSA only IN WRITING. I learned this the hard way.
Back in 2003 SSA shorted me $4,500. I started by calling them and soon learned that either they just didn't take good notes or didn't care. So I started insisting that everything had to be in writing. And eventually SSA refunded my $4,500, although, believe it or not, it took SSA fully eight (8) years to do so - again, this from the folks who want me to cough up the $3,900 in 30 days!
One other piece of advice: Write your congresspersons, specifically your two senators and the congressional representative for the district you are in. In addition write the President and the head of Social Security. The congresspersons will send you privacy release forms to fill out first before they will do anything, but the White House, at least in my case, got right on the case; the next thing I knew I got a call from the local SSA office saying they were responding to an inquiry from the White House.
Of course I had to tell the SSA rep that I would only communicate with her in writing (by the way, she was totally unprepared when she called, had not even read my letter). Good luck to you in your search for being treated fairly by SSA. Hopefully, they'll get smart and simplify their lives by giving all of us all the facts the first time, rather than leaving us in the dark and requiring these kinds of issues to continue to be dragged out over time. It is no wonder the cost of government has gotten out of hand.

The security officer was very professional but you automatically got a feeling of being treated like cattle. I was there with my family because I needed to replace my 9 year old son's social security card because I lost it. By the time I received a number I had number B30 and they were up to number 576. When the number goes to 600, the number starts all over with number one.
After sitting there for a period of time, my number finally came up and I went to the window. Again, I was only getting a replacement card because I had lost my son's card so on the application I provided my son social security number. I was called by Ms. ** (I asked her for her first name and she stated they don't give out first names). I gave her all my documentation and my HIP Prime medical card. As I handed her my stuff, she was saying "no this is not enough. Do you have a Benefits card or Medicaid card?" I said "no, I don't have a Benefits card or Medicaid card. I have HIP Prime." She said "this is not enough; I need one ID that shows his name and date of birth." She asked again, "what about Medicaid." I said "Ms. I am not on Welfare. I have HIP Prime, are you serious." She said "what clinic do you take him to?" I said, "his doctor is in the Bronx, and is affiliate with Albert Einstein in Co-op City."
This went on for a while and I asked to speak to her supervisor. I stood at her window waiting for her for about 15 minutes when she returned with a supervisor. The supervisor came back with her and explained that I could only have one ID that has his name and birthday. I explained that I have the new and old HIP Card, and they took the birthday's off of the new card but I gave them the older card with his name and birthday which was within the four year period. I handed them both HIP Prime Cards, Original Birth Certificate, the number of the Social Security Card was on the application, immunization and my 9 yr. was there in person. I showed them their application that stated "Replacement Social Security Card." It states to apply for a replacement card, you must provide one document to prove identity. I gave them all of the above and everything was current and the supervisor ** said, not enough.
I just knew I was being discriminated against because I did not have a BENEFITS CARD OR MEDICAID CARD. I was so shocked. I said this is ludicrous. I even spoke to ** (manager). Who said, I need an official document from my son's doctor. I reminded him that according to the application everything I needed to get a replacement card is present so why am I getting the runaround. He then said we can't accept the documentation. Here is a paper of what you must get from your doctor.
Something has to be done about this unacceptable practice of incompetence. What in the world. I was made to feel like something was wrong with me because I did not have a Benefits Card or Medicaid. If this office is going to run effectively and efficiently something has to be done with management. I was turned away and I had all my documentations and they refused to understand or honor what their application stated. This Social Security office at 820 Concourse Village is the only one in the Bronx. They closed the location on Laconia.
Why was I made to feel like it was a crime to have a job and work? This is a shame and a disgrace to the government agency that oversee this office. Management must be replaced or trained properly. This is very sad.... Who is in charge of monitoring these offices....

I've been on disability since before the online accounts were enabled, but then I did have one of their "old" accounts (which were instantly disappeared by SSA as soon as they put out their new "My Social Security" accounts). To date, I've been unable to open a new account because of this ridiculous "verification" by some credit agency, which I contacted and which denies being the culprit... it's all crap. Obviously, their "verification" process isn't worth beans because I am, in fact, myself. You can see how long a time it's been I've been trying to create an account if you look at my picture now compared to when I started.

I am a retired CPA and my wife is a retired teacher. We started receiving our retirement benefits from Social Security in January of 2013. Since we both were on Parts A & B of Medicare prior to receiving retirement benefits, we were required to remit our Part B Medicare premiums in 2012 (which are now generally $104.90) 3 months in advance. If they weren't paid in advance, Medicare would have cancelled our insurance coverage, so payment in advance was mandatory.
When we started collecting our retirement benefits, we were told that it was also mandatory for Social Security to deduct the monthly Medicare premium from our retirement benefits which are generally paid within the first 2 or 3 weeks of the month subsequent to the month they are paying you for (you receive Jan. benefit in Feb. and Feb. in Mar. and so on). Upon receiving our benefits, we realized that they had deducted Medicare premiums for months which had already been paid for by us directly through checks we remitted. In effect, we had paid two premiums for the same month.
We notified Social Security who informed us that this was an issue that had to be taken up with Medicare. Of course when we called Medicare, they tried to send us back to Social Security insisting this was a matter that we had to take up with their office. By now, I was furious and absolutely refused to get off the phone and call Social Security again and so they "escalated" my case promising me a callback within 48 hrs which was never made. I had to call them again and explain the whole problem to yet another agent who promised another callback.
When I finally spoke to the "escalation" department, they informed me that they did not owe us anything since the payments that they receive from Social Security are credited to my account the month after they are deducted. So, the bottom line is that my wife and I and every other one of the millions of people that have started their Medicare Part B coverage prior to starting their retirement benefits are out of pocket for one month of premiums, generally $104.90.
Since the normal age for starting Medicare coverage is generally 65 and the normal retirement age is generally 66 or 67 depending upon your year of birth, this injustice is being perpetrated on many, many recipients and the Social Security and Medicare agencies are holding millions of dollars of our senior citizens' monies unjustly. Social Security and Medicare are effectively cheating its senior citizens out of one month's Medicare premium indefinitely. This practice is an outrage and should be stopped immediately!

On your website, Stephen of Martinsburg, WV wrote on February 7, 2013 that he had contacted Social Security regarding being locked out of their newly designed website, MySocialSecurity.gov, as a result of errors on his credit report from one of the credit reporting agencies. I was registered on their old website, but apparently all information entered was erased with the new web design. I too was locked out when I attempted to log in and was even given the message they had no record of me at all! When I called both the Federal and local Social Security offices, no one could tell me why it was the new policy that anyone with a problem or special circumstances regarding their credit report would not be able to register. In my case, it was frozen (due to a history of identity theft) for the last 10 years and that has protected me well from any further ID theft since then.
However, the Social Security office chooses to require everyone in my circumstance to have to show up in person at their local office and establish ID again. The problems with such a solution are many and include the fact that my local Social Security office is one hour away and one hour back (two hours just to get there and back) and has very limited hours. Only on certain days is it open all day for 6 hours only (there is no 8-hour office access) and other days it is only for 3 hours, with 2 days of the week, completely closed. Then once you have taken the time to drive there, spend gas and take off from work or whatever else you might have done with your time, you wait some more as staff is very limited too. I have had previous experiences of having to wait for over 1 1/2 hours to just be seen.
With the advent of the internet, fax, emails, phone and other modern conveniences, one would think the government could come up with a more creative solution to establish a person's identity. Even the credit reporting agencies they are relying on for verification of identity only require a faxed or mailed in copy of your driver's license and social security card to verify your identity with them. Also, going in person and establishing your ID still does not guarantee that someone will not hack into your online account. The Social Security Agency is designed to assist the elderly and the disabled primarily. To make one of the essential tools inaccessible due to arcane requirements is shortsighted and not rational.

I am in need of help. In January 2012 I called the social security to apply for widow's benefits since I turned 60 years old. I received an appointment and went to finalize the application. I provided all info they requested. On March 15 I received a letter stating that my application was denied. I called the social security office here in Prescott and I was told the reasons were that since I was living in Las Vegas where my husband died, I was not married to him for 9 months prior to his death and there is no common law in Nevada. In 2001 I was living in Las Vegas with my husband. We were together for 14 years. We moved to Las Vegas in 1996.
In 2001-2002, he had been diagnosed with Carcenoid Tumors (an incurable disease) and we had to postpone our wedding to concentrate on his care. In 2003 he discontinued the chemo therapy and was transferred to a hospice. There we got married, joined by our friends and staff. I obtained all the necessary documentation and license in order to get married on April 1, 2003. The next day, on April 2, unfortunately he died. He could have lived longer, but it was unbearable for him. I was under the impression that when you married, it was legal. I want to know if I have hope or not? I will go to the local Prescott social security office to ask for an appeal. I was told if I wanted to appeal, I would need representation. Please help me if you can. Thank you.

I had a terrible experience with the Social Security's website on 2/6/13, trying to create an online account. I locked out after incorrect address information from Experian; credit was being used in verifying access, requiring me to confirm if I ever lived in a town in Pennsylvania I've never lived in in my life. And when I answered correctly, said it was incorrect, it locked me out completely!
I called SSA for assistance, message said wait time was 10 minutes. After 1/2 hour, an agent answered and waited while I tried to redo creating account. She walked through several questions from personal background to verify who I was before assisting. I was civil in commenting they shouldn't be using credit info for verification, some of what credit companies collect is inaccurate. The agent got audibly mad, said I could go into any SS office and get it, or I needed to contact Experian if it's incorrect to have it corrected, which I told her they shouldn't be using Experian for this in the first place to lock people out of creating an account as they could just correct it now (since they verified who I am using information on my deceased parents over the phone). I asked if they just mail it as done in the past. She then said that they cannot mail it and, "Well, I've told you of options of going into SS office or Experian," then abruptly disconnected.
I was still unable to create an online account, either locked out or site was unavailable at this time. I went into the office on 2/7/13, waiting in line with numerous other people, several of whom business could have been easily handled by mail. I work as a public employee and accept documents routinely by fax, email attachment or US mail that these folks were being required to come into a Social Security office at incredible inconvenience and additional expense which could have been handled by other than requiring office visit!
I did receive excellent service from the individual at the Martinsburg office I dealt with today, having to miss work just to get a copy of a social security earnings statement! Given the massive breaches that have plagued credit reporting agencies and inaccurate information they all too often collect and maintain on individuals, I don't know why this is used as a security source by Social Security.

I sent a direct deposit request form by mail three months ago on behalf of my mother who is disabled. She can't speak English that well. She was still getting checks, so I called the national number to inquire about the status. The representative named Benjamin kindly explained that the paper requests don't get processed usually because they can't identify the sender and that I need to call back with my mom to set it up on the phone. He suggested that I should call the local office in Alexandria, VA to make sure about the status and to find out about being the representative payee, so I won't run into problems when dealing with social security admin on behalf of my mother. He also said every state has different guidelines on how the account should be set up for the SSI payment account. I was surprised how courteous he was because in all my previous experiences with the local social security office, I got cut off and hung up on.
With optimism, I called the local office number 1888-472-2402. Someone came on the line after a 15-minute wait, with a sigh and grumbling, "No. Hello. No. How may I help you?" She was dismissive and not clear on what she was saying. She said to call the national line with my mother. I told her I understand that I need to call back with my mother, but I had other questions. She cut me off telling me she can't tell me anything. I repeatedly told her I don't need her to access my mother's information. I just need to know exactly what I need, how the account should be set up and etc., so I can help set that up for my mom. She got irritated with me and was very rude. I told her that I expect professionalism from her and she ignored me. She didn't give me her name, and when I asked for a supervisor, she sent me to a random mailbox that wasn't set up. So I got hung up.
I just can't believe of all places, social security office reps are so rude and incompetent. I'm fine with hearing "no." I understand that they have their rules and guidelines. On June 24, 2012, I filed for Social Security under my ex-husband's SS. He filed in 2010 and added me as a dependent, but we were divorced and I remarried (he didn't know I was married). By 2012 I received a letter from the SS telling me that I was entitled to a retroactive benefit from 2010. By that time, I was two years separated from my new husband and getting a divorce that was final in June 14, 2012. I went to the office of SS with the letter and the lady filed my case. They sent me a check for $9,512.00. The day the money was at my bank, they called me and told me that I needed to take the check back because I wasn't entitled to it - which I did the same day. I took a cashier's check for the amount and took it to SS office.
Days passed and they didn't tell me anything. I called the office and they told me they had lost the check. When the time passed and I didn't hear from them, I filed a fraud complaint against the office. The following day, they called me and told me I needed to get a second check and cancel the other one, which I did. They received the check on the 9th of October, but didn't put in the computer until the 22nd. So they told me that I wasn't going to receive money until the 22nd of November. Now they say that they had to withhold my money until they investigate if I received SSI for those months, which I didn't receive because they denied it to me.
I filed a new case and they sent the papers to my doctor. He didn't fill the papers, so I didn't receive anything and they are retaining my money. I think this is ridiculous! I live with my daughter who has four children and is not working. She lives with his dad who is on SS. What can I do? I need to move out and don't have any resources whatsoever. I live in Jacksonville, FL. I applied for SSDI & SSI in June 2010 and was denied, no surprise on the first initial denial. I presented my case to a prominent SSD attorney for review to take my case. The attorney said I had a great case, so I hired the firm to help me with the reconsideration stage. I was given specific instructions to go to SSA doctor's appointments on specific dates and times to determine my disabilities. I went to all my appointments and complied with all the instructions of the SSA ADJ and my attorney.
Finally, in July 2012, I was contacted by my local SSA (Bonneval Rd) office in Jacksonville, FL, and was informed I was awarded a fully-favorable decision on my claim. I was grateful for this decision due to my severe disabilities. After the call, I contacted my attorney and asked if they'd heard from SSA. The firm said no. I gave them the good news that my local office had given me. The paralegal in charge of my case said she'd look into it and said she was glad I could finally get the medical attention I need. I waited a week and then called my contact at the local SSA office and after several attempts, I finally got through to her. I asked how my case was going and she said my favorable decision got intercepted by the QRB. Of course, I didn't know what QRB stood for, so I asked and she said it was Quality Review Branch. I asked why I wasn't notified and she said not to worry about it. She went on to say she'd been working there since 2005 and never saw a case get overturned.
I'm confused on why I was called on 7/2/12 (Monday) and was told I was approved. She even calculated what my back pay would be on SSDI, SSI, and what my monthly payments would be and that she'd be releasing my money by 7/6/12 Friday!? She said these things happen. I feel like I've been misled on this. My attorney reassured me that my local SSA office wouldn't have given me a call with favorable results unless they were 100% sure I would be given benefits. Why did it go for review if I'm 100% approved? She didn't have a plausible answer. This is extremely hard to do. Does anyone have any experience with this QRB process? Furthermore, has anyone ever been called with a fully-favorable decision only to find out there's a possibility I might be denied again?

By January 2012, we still had not received his card, so my husband went to the SS office in Waukegan, IL. He was told that we should have received the card weeks ago and they would submit it again. They said it should take about two weeks for the card to arrive. Two weeks passed and still no card. He gives it about another week before going into the same office again. And again they tell him the card should have arrived already and they will submit it again, but this time they will have it sent to the office in Waukegan instead of to our home.
Another two weeks pass and he goes back into the office. The card has not arrived. This time they tell him not to come back into the office, they will call him when the card comes in. Another month goes by without a call and without the card. Today, he goes back in and the card has been sitting at the office since the beginning of April. These workers were rude and unhelpful. My son is now 8 months old and he is a legal citizen of the United States, as are myself and his father. It should not take 8 months to receive a Social Security card for a newborn. At the same time my mom died, who was also on SSI and SSA, I requested survivor’s benefits which took a while but came through. However, during the processing time for getting me on SSA, I had money taken away. Checks just plainly didn't show up and when I called, I got the excuse that there were errors they were working out in another office. When looking for numbers or contact information for offices above the local office, I found nothing.
They finally did get everything sorted out but for whatever reason, even using their direct deposit card, they still couldn't get my SSA on it and for some reason, they sent me two checks on the 3rd from SSA. Fast forward 4 months and all of the sudden, any and all records of my receiving survivor benefits is somehow erased from their system (that's right, they can't even see that they have given me 1000's of dollars) and that I am receiving all that I am due yet. There is a financial cap (somewhere around like $708.00 or so this year) of which I am about 70 dollars under now.
So to recap, someone pushed the “oops button” on the computer and now, there's financial info completely missing. They can't even consolidate checks that come from the exact same place. They can't get their checks direct deposited into their own accounts and apparently no one at the local office can count, couple that with a complete lack of administration above them and you find yourself dealing with an office of Nazi’s with down syndrome. For the love of God, someone fix this place. This is our govt. The same people we blindly follow because they are supposed to be capable of leading us. These people can't even count for God’s sake.

I told her my father was very ill and that a little courtesy and patience would be appreciated. She then yelled at me and was going to hang up on me, while she cut me off again and put me on hold for over 45 minutes, until I finally gave up because I was at work while I was trying to get this done and I needed to return to my job.
My father has been very ill, and having to deal with elderly ill family is not an easy task. But when people who are supposed to be trained to deal with these calls in a professional manner and instead talk to people as they are frustrated and angry at anyone, who calls in for questions or information and is yelled at and mistreated, these employees need to be relieved from their job. I can only imagine what elderly people go through when they phone in for assistance and get someone like Carmela, the employee on the other end of the line. That is plain abuse.
I am requesting an investigation on this recorded phone conversation with Carmela (employee) that day. Furthermore, I would like to file an official complaint against Social Security Administration and its employee (Carmela).

My wife and I went to the office in Mt. Prospect, IL to tidy up some questions we had. We waited in line to get an appointment which was a fair amount of time to wait. When we got to the lady who interviewed us, I felt as though she was very angry. I am an advocate for all federal employees, but after being treated in what I felt was a rude and cattle-like way, I can truthfully see why you and the postal workers behind the desk get such a bad rap. This lady should have at least smiled or acted in a way that conveyed the feeling that she liked her job and the people she served and who by the way pay her salary. This may sound petty, but I think these people represent the Social Security department and therefore should act accordingly.

I have a crippling medical condition called fibromyalgia, among other serious health issues. I've applied for Social Security Disability 4 times in the past 10 years for the fibromyalgia and 4 times they've denied me. I've had this condition for 12 years, which I've struggled horribly to keep working. The second time I was denied, I personally called Social Security to ask them why I was being denied and I was appalled when they told me and I quote, "Because you're married to a Ford worker and he's responsible for you.”
I have worked 35 years in the state of Ohio and in this country, and the way I see it I cannot be counted as an individual. They are telling me my husband holds the money, the power and the control over my life. I had left my husband in April of 2010 and haven't gotten a dime of support from him while he lives in the comforts of our home, eating steaks and buying beer everyday and he's responsible for me. I'm staying with my mother in a one bedroom trailer. I was forced to leave work in November of 2011 due to the fibromyalgia because I just couldn't keep doing the food service work I've done my whole life. I waited 14 months with no income whatsoever for a court hearing from Social Security just to get denied again. Now, I am forced to wait another year or longer if my lawyer decides to file an appeal with the council. I have 12 years worth of medical behind me for this fibromyalgia and other serious health issues and there should be no way they should deny me.
This is an outrage against humanity--all we go through to try and get this help we so desperately need while being ill with serious medical conditions in which there is about a 3-year wait. I want to take my case before the Ohio Supreme Court or a higher court, if this is possible, because what they are doing is wrong. I have contacted my state reps and whoever else I was able to bring this matter to. Something really needs to be done about the Social Security laws and guidelines. They need to change now. My husband is not responsible for me. I have a Social Security lawyer, but he can only do so much. Please respond to my complaint as soon as possible. Thank you.

I received a native card, with my last social security check, stating in part that I received a 3.6% increase, due to inflation over a three year period (2009-2012). The card said, if I was dissatisfied to write to the SSA. However, there was no address to send it to. Of course, the facts of the case is the federal government claims, that all this time, there has been very little inflation, but this is only true, if you don't buy anything like gasoline, food, and utilities, otherwise, the actual inflation rate is about 30-40%, and this hurts fixed income citizens.
To use inflation to steal from the Americans is really criminal, and of course, what Jefferson was talking about, when he said that if the banks or government is allowed to inflate the money of our country, then, and I quote "our children's children will be orphans in their own country that we fought for". I am a veteran, so I did serve my country directly, and indirectly. I hope this is helping you understand the dire situation recipients of social security are in today in the USA.

We received a letter regarding the deduction for Med D Rx Plan coverage to begin January 1, 2012. We had a question about the dates, December/January, not knowing the distinction that insurance premiums are not a month behind. We have an SS office in our neighborhood, and I decided to wait in person to inquire. Big mistake. I was fine with the 45 minute wait. What went “south” was the unpleasant policies in the office and what ensued. The guard's job is to inform people to sign in and obtain a number and also to keep the peace. This he does by telling people who have a question to sit down and keeping cell phones off. Two staff women were on duty helping the roomful of people. One was considerate and helpful as I watched the goings on. One 'customer' had a very complicated case and was at the window for half an hour. One other young lady had the rest all that while.
When I got my turn, I had her and got the following from our exchange. She wouldn't help me because the letter was addressed to my husband. My question was not generic and she would not look up his account. She would not let me make an appointment for him—he had to do this in person. I was fully prepared for what followed because I had read it on the TV screen. Basically, any form of civil disobedience would be dealt with; your removal and arrest are never allowed in any SS office. I complained, “That's ridiculous,” and banged my hand on the desk. The guard was right on it. I said I'm leaving. I knew he would be escorting me out. The last address I got from the agent was, "I'm done." She refused to speak to me.
I happen to be a nice person and I know these employees deserve respect. Still, the office culture is mean and indifferent. A past experience with agents in the same office but in the “back” is that they were extremely smart, helpful, kindly and knowledgeable. In the front room, they think they are professional when in fact I describe it as a backwater. I got the help I needed on the phone with a return call from SS about 6 p.m. The agent was well- educated, well-informed and very nice. She talked to me without needing my husband and took care of everything in less than 5 minutes. I'm writing this email because I consider it a formal complaint against a really unhelpful and mean experience.
The MVA in Columbia and the MVA in Greenbelt used to be a nightmare. They have been shaken up and are now run much better. All the difference in the world. My self-employment income was counted as unearned income. My request for reconsideration that the income be counted as self-employment was denied before I was allowed to submit the documents they asked for. The claims rep stated in an email (which I have copies of) to central office "I don't know how to get her to comply because she is not already getting benefits" and "are you saying in the Note sections this would exclude the income?
I find it personally very disturbing that the SSA would exclude such large amounts of income!" when in fact I have proof, the signed document we were both waiting on was not in my hands at the time, because it was being signed and dated by the appropriate parties. My hearing before an ALJ was a joke, switching judges at the last minute this new judge was hostile and didn't even know what the case was about, had read none of the evidence in the file, and did not follow code of conduct expected by such a judge. I have found the SSA system overall to be extremely inefficient and biased. Then they asked for my mother's SSN for the Disabled Adult Child (DAC), they denied that one as well. So I filed an appeal on the DAC claim and SSA decided, "No you will file on the DIN." As I investigate, I find my mom's SSN is on the Ticket to Work which has been used since 1993, SSA says they can use my mother's SSN as well. I found that before 1995, SSA and HHS was one body and they had stolen my grandmother's estate and allowed HHS to report my grandmother was incompetent and had no children born or living. This was 1976. And then in 1991, the IRS, while my grandma was OB Medicaid and other welfare, the United States sued grandma for back taxes on her stolen estate. Social Security is a criminal and it will take two committed persons to bring a $570 billion class action for theft and deceit by USA. I'm an enemy as I been told by SSA.
They said I have discrete mental impairment, which I never knew or was treated for they also stopped benefits and medical, which I was being treated for hepatitis C. They have sent police to my house because of complaints saying I'm suicidal and they have place slanderous info in my SSA file. But guess what, I will be victorious by just telling SSA God will resolve this and what you (SSS) is coming to light. This you can rest upon. Also, I filed 17 appeals or reconsideration and never got a hearing, then got one and its riddled with due process violations and other violations systemic in SSA. I need help. I have been fighting with the Social Security office for my disability now for 3 years. I am 52 years old. I have worked for 35 years and need help. I don’t want to get to the point that I’m wheelchair-bound. I have been denied two times in writing and once by a judge. I was injured at work in July of 2007. While off on medical leave I lost my medical insurance. I was having CAT scans and MRIs done, in which I have against my credit because I lost my insurance.
I was told to call all supervisor and they would help me file for my disability. They told me that I didn't have enough medical documents. I had to get a Harris county card. I have had one lumbar laminectomy in the early 1990s. I returned to work in less than 2 weeks. Since in have been going to this clinic I have only gotten worse. I finally filed at the social security office in 2009. Again I have worked for 35 years and never gotten any assistant from the government. I'm asking for this help to return to work. I have a number of illnesses. I have 15 more years to work till I can fully retire. I depend on pain meds to function in my everyday life.
I don't drive while taking this med. I don’t want to have an accident and hurt anyone. While I was injured I was working with elderly patients, I would go to their home and assist them in personal hygiene. I believe that I hurt my back while helping a patient that weighed 300-plus pounds with her bath. I have used all my finances and still fighting for my disability. I also have had some bad experiences with the county clinic that I have been going to. I had a colonoscopy and woke up while the doctor was cutting off polyps. The doctor also left a precancerous polyp there. I had a biopsy of my thyroid which has multiple nodules. They left it there and my father died of throat cancer. I have decided that I'm not going there anymore. This injury has also caused me a lot of family problems and I have to leave my relationship and have no money. I have gone through all my finances and under extreme amount of stress.
I'm getting a lot of run around now, trying to appeal the judge's decision. I had a lawyer that met my lawyer for my review and the judge didn't even have any of my medical records and rescheduled my court date that took 3 months. I went back and didn't know how to answer the questions asked by the judge. Such as when he asked can I do my housework; the answer was yes, but it takes me all day. Can I shop? Yes, but I pay the sackers to carry my groceries to my truck and pay the boy across the street to unload them for me and my daughter puts them up. I look at people that are getting their disability and their able to get a job, but they are just sucking up welfare and not trying to do anything to get a job.
This isn't my case. I have done all I was required to and now they're telling me I will have to wait an additional time. I don't have to time to wait. I think that this just isn't fair. I contacted Congressman Gene Greene’s office who referred me to the Pasadena office. Mr. **. I need all my benefits. My SSI, my disability and my back pay. I need this to get out of this abusive situation that I'm in. I have exhausted all my finances and I'm dead broke. I now have to pay taxes on my 401-k that I had to use to live on. I need my Medicaid so I can get the surgeries needed to return to work. And if at all possible, some type of housing that would help me move out. If denied again, I want a letter stating that the government is aware that I will be driving while taking my pain med and muscle relaxers and my antidepressants. So if an accident happens while driving or at work, if I become wheelchair-bound because of my back injuries, the government will take responsibility for this also.
This has caused a great deal of stress. And now I'm told that it could take an additional 90 to 120 days to get another court date. I feel that I should not have to start all over again. I have done what was required of me. I believe that they are just trying to get by without paying back pay.

Also, and I have papers from the doctor notes to back all my claims up, and the law judge, Richard ** in Chattanooga, TN just took the opinions from the psychologist, Dr. Richard D. ** of Georgia whom has never examined me or given me any medications, he just looked over my doctors notes and said there not incapable notes or papers from 2007- 2010, and are up to date notes. Dr. Richard D. ** made up false lies examples, go fishing, gym, cutting grass, visiting friend and said I don't need SSDI, said I was faking and just plain lazy.
I've been on medications, unemployed. How can he say things like that, this is discrimination and racism at its best. He even said, I take illegal drugs and drink alcohol when I have not done those kind of things. Dr. Richard D.** is a liar, he even said I don't take medications, when I have them bottles and I sent the labels and dates of them to ssa and to the judge. I even send doctor notes from Hiwasee mental health in Madisonville, TN 37354 and the pharmacy were I got the Genodon mg 80 mg pills- antipsychotic medication I take, and other medications I took from Peninsula outpatient center in Marville, TN, Skyridge Mental Health in Cleveland, TN. Dr. Richard D. ** and has no prove of these false allegations and lies he made up. The judge Richard W. ** administrative law judge just went along with him. Paid off Richard D. ** and the social security administration did to and he made false lies and opinions and threw away may doctors notes on facts. Should be sued for false lies, opinions and false allegations denying me my SSDI.
I work 6 out of 10 years and have mental problems, have paper work to prove this. Also, I will have my own doctor papers to back this up - bipolar disorder, etc. not paid off by the state of TN to deny people, the poor. 95% of people are denied in TN.

I lost my husband in March of this year. We were staying with my daughter and her husband. They were charging us $600 a month. After he passed away, I used $600 of his check ($896) to pay them their rent money. I owe social security $698. I told them I was having problems paying my rent. This was the only finances I receive but they said in October, I will only get $265. I can't pay my $555 rent. I will get evicted. Is there anything someone can do? I am a retiree, 71 years of age. Please let me hear before month is over. I live In Memphis, Tennessee.
