I don't know where to begin because I've had problems with this company since my loan began! To make this short, the people who work for Santander are incompetent. On several occasions they've taken money from my account that I didn't authorize and it's hell trying to get the money back into my account! Please think twice before getting a loan from this company!

I have had enough of this type of theft from the public. If you have had similar dealings with this financial institution then visit the Facebook group- **. I purchased a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox financed with Drive Financial in 2007 - the amount was 15,000. Shortly after attaining the vehicle, I learned that Drive Financial switch over to Santander Consumer. I paid on this vehicle for more than two years to never see the original finance amount drop at all. In 2009 my vehicle was stolen and the insurance company settled with Santander to pay off the vehicle. Well I show a charge off on my credit history report for a charge off from Santander with no dollar amount. I have tried to dispute this negative report several times to no avail. I know there are several customers with very bad experiences from Santander. Something has to be done about this company. They are robbing us blind. I am ready for the class action against Santander.

I was told that I had to make extra payments and request that the extra money I sent in be applied to the principal only. So you must request that any extra you send in be applied to the principal amount only or you will be paying interest for years.

I called the customer service and they told me they are working on it for last 4 days, still have no answer. They have no idea how to handle this simplest thing. Every time I called, the answer is they are escalating the issue, but never have any answer. I'll NEVER use or recommend anyone to apply the loan there. My loan was approval with conditional since March 2015 and we haven't closed it. VERY DISAPPOINTED THE WAY THEY HANDLE THEIR BUSINESS!!!

I know several people personally that have financed a car with Santander and when it got close to paying off this debt they tried to find a way to repo. Lucky for them they were able to just pay the car off in full. I was not so lucky, my contract was sold to Santander when the company I was with closed. I went thru a divorce and the other company rewrote my contract to $550.00 a month but when Santander took over they insisted on the old amount. I tried to explain to them that as a single parent $550.00 was all I could afford and that was why it was rewritten by the other company. They took my car. DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY. YOU WILL REGRET IT. I continue to pass this on to others and have changed several people's mind about dealing with them. RESEARCH AND BELIEVE THE STORIES. THEY ARE TRUE.

In 2010 I purchased a 2009 Hyundai Sonata from Elk Grove Auto with $5000 down, car total $18,000, with a pay off date of October 2015. Well I didn't have any credit so Santander financed car. I have made EVERY payment of $410 + $10 for over the phone EVERY month on time up 'til July 2015, even made payment when husband died in 2014. So far I have paid $28,000 on car. I had an illness come up. Mind you, now I have several companies offering to finance me a car at minimum of $35,000 because my FICO SCORE is now 760.

I asked for 1 month deferred on July 1st, NEVER LATE. They said I have to take 2 months deferred, but end result, they refuse to defer even though pay off says $1,618 Oct 2015. So they asked for $220-$210 + 10 to see if deferment will be approved. I paid, will contact me later to let me know. Now I'm scared in reading reviews they may repo car if add extra $ to payoff because of ONE late payment in five years.

I live in the country, one car, 60, widowed, disabled. August I will make $640 payment to get it up-to-date. Praying while dealing with 90-yr old mom (back east) illness. I pray they don't repo my car or add another $5000 to pay off. Then in September, I will attempt to pay car off. I don't want to use my Capital One, AMEX, SAC Credit to pay off and they overcharge them... I pray these crooks do not try to hurt my excellent credit rating or I will hire an attorney to fight them. STRAIGHT RIP OFF ARTIST, CROOKS, SCAM COMPANY. They got an extra $10k plus $120 every year due to $10 processing fee. DON'T USE THIS COMPANY EVER!!!

Just like many other complaints, helped daughter purchase a used car from Ourisman Chevrolet. And Santander picked up the loan. And the car was only worth $20,000 after taxes and tags. But Santander added another $17,000 in interest on top of the interest already included in the monthly payment. Santander added that amount on after the contract was signed, and neither the dealer nor Santander disclosed this information to me or my daughter. I am truly outraged that a company that is originally in Spain, can set up in America and run their SCAM for loans on the American people. Really PISSED!!!! The Justice Department made them pay out 9.3 million dollars to other consumers who complained. But what about the rest of us who wants out of their loan, and paid back their money from these fraudulent company.

Granted they gave me an auto loan when no one else would touch me due to bad credit, but I have been an excellent customer for over a year and a half. Made every one of my payments on time, usually early, and often more than required. I requested a deferment as I was in the process of moving and needed to free up as much money as I possibly could. I asked for the deferment 2 weeks prior to when my payment was due. I was told to wait 10 days for a decision. When I called, I was told I was denied because I wasn't considered in a hardship because my payment wasn't even due yet. That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard!!! Wouldn't a company be appreciative of advanced notice that a payment wouldn't be possible and to do whatever is possible to keep a good customer for floundering???

Spoke with a manager who resubmitted my request as it was now a day before my payment was due. Told to wait ANOTHER 10 days which now makes my payment past due. And surprise!! DENIED again why this time? Well because my account allows a partial payment to be made instead to keep my account current. Well that would've been nice to know the 1st time I called 2 weeks prior to being late!! So now my payment is late, another payment due very soon and my credit which I've been working so hard to improve is in jeopardy all because no one knows how to communicate. I think they did it on purpose so now I'll have a late fee as well at 2 payments due on top of each other! This is not how to do business. Especially with good customers. I will be looking to refinance with another company as soon as possible!

    Updated on 09/03/2015:

I purchased a car in 2013. I went to pay it off 2015. I was told the full amount I needed to bring it down to 14000. I paid that amount. Santander would not apply the amount. They waited until I owed another payment and still wouldn't apply the amount. All along each day it was incurring interest. That was the plan for them. I called every day but they would not apply the payment. Then the supervisor got online and told me to pay another $140. I paid it. I paid 300 instead and said they would owe me money. They sent me a check for $66.00 because they said that was the only over payment. I want to start a class action lawsuit against them. They are doing too many people wrong. They waited an entire month to release the title after I paid it in full. I would WALK before I finance another car from them. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!

SANTANDER just picked up my toy hauler saying I was behind 67 days. They put out a repo order 12 days ago yet never called or sent ANY info stating setting was wrong. I filed a bankruptcy 7 years ago but carried thru it and always paid. They agreed to let us keep it and just keep paying payments. I have done so, but now they say that we owed prior to the b.k. and NOW the systems recognize it and the SYSTEM generated a repo order? Oh how convenient, now adding $1250 to the bill for the repo instead of calling or sending a bill? They could easily have asked for the $472 which I would at ANY time in the LAST 6 years have paid in a moment, but NOOO... just show up and put it up for auction...AND sell it for WAY more than I currently owe.

BAD business! I didn't short them, and wasn't even late when I filed b.k. 2008/09 was rough for everyone and only had to get rid of house to over for work and couldn't sell because economy collapsed. NOBODY was paid late, including them BUT since they bought out a bank that went down the tunes at that time...it's awfully convenient that they have no records to support the issue they say they repo'd my trailer for? WTF? Now extort me for over $1200 more??? Santander sucks! Blame the "computer" for the error... EVEN though I have records from day one!

I put my car payment in my mail box. Someone stole the check from the mailbox and somehow changed the payee to their name. It was VERY obvious. I checked my bank balance and it said the check had cleared. I received a call from a Santander rep telling me my payment was late. After some research with my bank I found out about the fraudulently cashed check. I told the rep when I called back what was going on and would do an online payment the next day.

When I got the fraud paperwork from my bank a week or so later I was told that since Santander Consumer USA was the payee on the car payment check they would have to fill out one piece of paper and have it notarized and mail it to my bank. I would then be able to collect my 400.00 that had been stolen from me. I talked to at least 6 people at Santander Consumer USA call center in India.I tried to get them to understand that they did not have to pay any money, they did not have to admit guilt for anything, they had no responsibility for this at all. They only had to fill out 3 lines in a piece of paper and send it to my bank. I faxed a copy of the forged check and the paperwork that needed to be filled out to the fax number in Dallas TX. They refused to do it.

After losing my temper I demanded to talk to a supervisor. I was given a number to the Santander Consumer USA fraud dept. I spoke to a woman there that said they would not fill out the paperwork so I could get my money back from my bank. They had not received the car payment and had no proof that I had attempted to send them a check. I told them they hadn't received the car payment because it had been STOLEN FROM MY MAIL BOX!!! As with many people here I am going to refinance with another loan company. Please, please, please don't use this company!!!

They made me change my loan dating which made things worse. Mysteriously extra fees kept being added to my account. They repossessed my car and brought it out of state. They added BS fees to bring it back. I paid the fees to get it back. But the car was returned damaged and my items stolen.

It's been a year and this issues has not been solved. Finally, I found a company to refinance this nightmare of a loan. They reported false information on my credit which prevented that and ruined my credit. They will come up with excuses to add on fees. They WILL NOT RELIANCE YOU! IT'S ALL LIES! I don't understand how this company is getting away with this. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY! Nothing will ever add up.

I made my first payment on my new car to Chrysler Capital on July 4 online. My payment was not due until July 9. It is now a week later, and the payment still has not posted to my account. It currently shows a delinquent status. I called in twice this week about the issue. I was first told this happens on the 3rd & 4th of each months. Yesterday I was told that the IT department was working on resolving the issue. In the meantime, I have no clue where my money is. Western Union immediately processed my payment for over $370 but nobody can tell me what happened to my money after it taken out of my bank account.

I will be reporting this to the SC Department of Consumer Affairs. I feel like my money has been stolen when nobody can say where it is. All Chrysler can say is they see I made the online payment but have no idea when it's going to get applied to my account. I have a screenprint of the payment made as well as my bank statement for proof. I had a Jeep financed in 2006 with Chrysler Financial and never had any issues at all.

Took advantage of my 18 yr old son. Well when he purchased the car from CarMax, CarMax sold it for 16998.00. He did not know he was paying the loan back in a whopping amount of 39755.52, which is double the amount of the car. They charged an interest rate of 25.99% that was too much for his first car at that age. Then CarMax or Santander did not verify to see if he really has a job or how he would be able to pay this amount of money back. They just took his down payment in the amount of 749.32. I have been paying the note each month in the amount of 552.00 for the past year and the loan amount is not going down. It's still the same amount when he first got the car.

The reason why I was paying it for him I didn't want him with bad credit. Now that I am not able to keep up with the payments they have been calling me everyday, all day even while I'm working and even on Sunday mornings. I tried to get it refinance through them to get the interest down before he got behind and they belittlely told me they don't refinance as if he already have a loan with them. Now that I'm living from pay check to pay check I will not be able to help him out. Santander is practicing unethical laws with people just to get over on consumers and damaging their credit. Please can someone help me!

My comments are very accurate and very fair. My advice is never finance a vehicle with this company. Their customer service is terrible. Most important is the company's inability to get a statement out in the mail to be received before the payment is due!!! For the last 8 months the statement arrives four days before the due date!! So for 8 months we send the payment in via mail without a statement attached and write a note for what it is for. Totally unacceptable and am happy to say we will never finance with Chrysler Capital again. Terrible company.

I walked in yesterday (7/06/2015) to my local Santander branch (Elmhurst branch in Providence - Smith Street) intending to enquire my account transaction. When you enter, there is a security guard who just stands there leaning on the counter and seem lost in his own world. On the right are the offices with glass walls. There was an old lady sitting in one of the offices who looked up after some seconds and told me she will be with me shortly (she looked liked she was going through her handbag). There was another gentleman next to her office who was just sitting in his desk and seems to be working on the computer but looked up and went back to work.

After about 1 minute, the security guard pointed that I should sit down on the left side of the building where it is the customer sitting area. (The branch design is horrible. The sitting area is way away from where you would expect the customers to be. The bankers cannot see the customers from where their offices are.) I asked the security guard how can the bankers know that there are customers waiting for services and he said that that was his job to direct the customers to the bankers. I was amazed and asked him if he is also the secretary. I moved to the sitting area and was joined by another customer who seemed upset after seeing the tellers. Anyway the banker gentleman came over and passed me and went directly and asked the gentleman who was supposed to be second to be serviced if he could help him. The gentleman pointed that I was there first.

I was very offended for that small act since the banker clearly saw me come in and heard the lady banker next to him saying they will be with me shortly. And to make the matter worse is that he walked directly passed me and ignored a customer who was there first. He did not even ask who was there first but just assumed the "white" customer was there first. I did ask him politely in his cubicle why he only asked/addressed the other gentleman first and was it because he was "white." And the gentleman just flipped on me and asked me to get out of his "cubicle" and called the security guard. I have never been treated with such disgust and with no respect directly and I left with the old lady who looks like the branch manager trying to side and explain the banker action. I told her I was going to close my account.

I went home, called my local Citizen branch and got an account setup (same day). I was a customer for Citizen for over 10 years and we decided to Santander since it was walking distance from my house. My wife also closed her account with Santander few months ago due to horrifying customer service. This branch is horrible and they don't understand all customers need to be treated equal and with respect. The "little" money they think customers like us bring actually is what pays them from the charges and interest they charge. After sleepless night and thinking it through, am not going to close my account and will try to use a different branch where they might treat people like myself with respect and equal.

I purchased a truck in September 2014. My fiancee co-signed the loan. Shortly after I suffered an eye injury causing my loss of work and to have delays on the payments. I have paid, even though a few days late, no more than 25, the full payment plus the late fees. Instead of applying the late fees to straighten out my account and keep current, they applied the "extra payment" to the principal on the account. Their reasoning is nuts. Then they can't explain why they do this accounting method, other than it's a "simple" interest loan. Personally I think they have a bunch of financial dropouts operating this company. When I get a statement from someone, that includes a regular amount due and a late fee, I pay the total amount and then expect them to apply it correctly to the breakdown shown on the statement. SCAM - doesn't do this.

I'm gonna have to wait another 60 to 90 to have this car loan closed out and also to receive my refund from the money that is left over after all the fees are paid for the vehicle. I'm having the same problems with this company like all the other people are having. We purchased a pre-own 2011 Kia Sorento almost four years ago. My situation the same, it went well at first then about a year later we got into a bind and we got behind trying to keep up the payments. We tried to see if they could work with us, they did. But it turned into a freaking nightmare. They offered a modification for six months to lower our payments, but didn't tell us the interest and fees will continue. Never got back on track. So a few months later we got to have our payment put to the end of the loan and we did that three times and still the interest and fees racked up. So now it's like I haven't even made payments on the car. I still owe 16,000 on the car.

Can you tell me how this is and I have a six year loan. Yes, this company is a big ripoff and when the representatives starts to be rude, I put them in their place. They want your money so don't let them be rude with you. Please people don't let them take payments out your account or you will be really messed up. Also I have sent in two separate money orders one for car payment and one to try to pay down some of the interest and fees. Don't you know they put all my money on interest including my car pay too? So nothing went on my car payment.

And they have all kind of excuses and you have didn't representatives telling you different things. I also hate this company with a passion! I was willing to get another car just to get out from under them, but my payoff is too high and my trade in will still leave a balance. So I'm screwed literally. So buyer beware! If the company Santander Consumer USA comes up in anything you do, please run!!! Not a good company.

One year when I got my taxes, I sent in 3 payments but they claim they didn't get the 3rd payment - but my checking clearly showed the payment went to them. The main thing I am furious about is the truck was supposed to be financed for 15,000 but here it is, June 2015 and I still owe 15,000. I have heart problems had open heart surgery but this company here has stressed me to no end. I will never ever get out of this truck - no dealer will touch it because of the mileage & payoff. I'm at my wit's end, don't know where to turn. If you hear or see Santander, turn & walk away.

The loan was only financed for a straight $20,000 and I have been paying my monthly payment of $500.00 plus I was given 8,000 for my car as a trade-in. Well Santander is NOTHING BUT A RIP OFF. They have double dip in my bank account and taken extra money from me which I didn't have and now I'm behind on my other house payments, they repossessed my car for about 6 hours or less and I had to give them 1200.00 to get it back, when I say that this company is no good I mean it they don't know how to talk to the customers. I have never in my life hate such a company as much as I hate this company.

I would advise anyone in the world never do business with them. When I called and listened to my pay off amount it said, hold on to your hats, it said 18,000 for real. When he couldn't make the first payment (over $450), he call their customer service and after explaining that he still didn't have a job. He was told that as long as he sent them $190 each month until he found a job, they wouldn't repossess the car. After he sent them the second $190 as agreed; they took the car. If that's not taking advantage of young people that don't know any better; I don't know what is. I wonder how many other unsuspecting young people have they did that or worse to.

I knew going in I was going to have to bite the bullet on interest and length of loan. The only way to beat them and Carmax was to pay the loan off early. I've had the car six months and have paid it down by 50 percent. It will be paid off in about 3 months, saving myself about 14,000 in interest. I don't trust them enough to mail in a payment so I make them online for 10.95 each payment (it adds up but I calculated it saves with the daily interest rate by knocking it down).

Every time I make a payment I leave a note in the chat box and email a copy of the conversation to myself. Telling them to place the full amount on principal only and zero to interest because I'll pay the interest with the monthly payment I make 3 weeks early. If I didn't do this they would apply it towards future payments instead of knocking down the daily interest rate balance. It's a fight to get them to do it and it takes about a week. Every time I chat with them I file a complaint for the office of the president. Now every time I call it goes to the office of the president. I also do a call to the office of the president every time I make a principal payment -- It is to go to principal only. By doing this I have saved or added 250 dollars that they were going to take out for interest and applied it to principal. I noticed they were not reporting the correct balances to the credit bureaus. Made number of complaints and now they started to fix it.

I cancelled my gap insurance through Carmax and they sent them the refund. I called everyday to see when it was going to be applied. I checked with Carmax and got an exact date when it was refunded and confronted them about it. It was applied that day. The process took 6 days vs the 3 to 4 weeks. The daily interest on the gap was 50 cents a day. Time is money! I did it as soon as I knew I wasn't upside-down. Why waste the money? They will drag it out. I run my loan in a spreadsheet to keep track of every penny and figure out ways to keep this company honest. I send a chat everyday asking about my daily balance and file a complaint if it is wrong and ask for a full review. I never rank them high on surveys. This company only works with the consumer if you stand on them. You have to know everyday what your balance is. I learned my lesson about Carmax and Santander. Never again!

My husband and I bought a 2011 Impala about a year and a few months ago. I love my car and we have always made our payments on time and now I'm HIGHLY upset with these people... I talked to them yesterday on June 3, 2015 and my husband gets paid every Thursday so 2 weeks ago we made our payment for $260.00 thru the automated system and it posted like it was supposed to... I called them yesterday to find out why this week, and last week they have been trying to suck $370.00 out of my bank account. They told me they are not the ones trying to take this money out, (even though I already made a car payment less than 2 weeks ago) they said that we need to call our regular bank that has our checking acct and find out why they are trying to send this payment to Santander... That's **! Why would my bank take it upon themselves to pay Santander a payment on their own. That makes no sense at all.

I am pissed because now my husband got paid today and his whole check was taken because of this, plus our bank is still $60 in the negative so I'm disputing this charge because we are current on our payments and they say it is our bank that keeps sending this payment thru and it's them (Santander)... The lady told me that I needed to contact my bank over and over again (was very rude by the way)...

I'm sick of these people and I've read a lot of other bad reviews and it's just crazy how they can do this to people because they are a bank. I'm hoping after midnight tonight my husband's check will be put back into our acct because we are disputing this $370.00 that Santander took it upon themselves to try to take this money out of my account and they are blaming it on my bank. This is not right and now my checking acct is screwed up because of it... My husband told me that since we are having to dispute this charge, they will not be able to do it again... I thought all payments had to be authorized... Obviously not with Santander. I really wish this bank was not like this because it's causing problems for us and them... one of two things is happening, #1. They are crooks... #2. They have reps that do not know what they are doing. Me personally, I think it's a little of both.

In January we canceled the Service & GAP insurance w/ Fidelity Warranty. Fidelity Warranty sent the refund check to Chrysler Capital & on March 20th, Chrysler Capital cashed the check & was supposed to sent the refund within 30-45 days. They sent the check to the wrong address, when they clearly had the correct address because they sent the Payoff Letter to the correct address. I started my complaints with the service & handling of my son's account with Customer Service, spoke with the supervisor in the "Military Unit" who verified that the address was indeed correct. After 2 weeks of waiting for the check it was @ that time I learned that accounting sent the check to my son's old address.

After much complain & no resolution my call was transferred to the "Office of the President." I was put in touch with a manager who called me & swore he would take care of it & get back to me... now 4 days later no call back only notes placed on the account by the manager that he told me he would see what he can do. Now I'm being told that the managers not in & I would need to go up the "Chain of Command" which I already did. The rep said that I needed to speak with another manager before I could speak to the manager that told me he would call me back.

This has been the worst service of any company that holds our military family accounts, it's a complete travesty. I asked for the President of the company & a rep in the office of the President by the name of ** said I couldn't have the number but his name is **. Please understand I'm writing this & telling you the Consumer. Buyer Beware & DO NOT purchase a vehicle through Chrysler Capital. If you have any issues all you are going to get is..."I'm sorry." It's been 3 months & still no refund. Not to mention, when I call the regular phone line it's still reporting that my son has a payment that was due on May 28th.

Now we have had credit issues in the past, so now we don't take out loans. So we have a low score. Dealer says that Santander is the only one that will touch the loan. Ok, no problem. Or so I thought. First, if you pay your payment by a debit card, fee of 10 or 12 dollars. Didn't know that. So ok. We will just use a check. Guess what, if you call in a check number, fee of 12 dollars. So, I didn't know that. But the real kicker is when I received a phone call saying my account was 23 days overdue.

I asked my wife, "Did you make your truck payment?" She says yes. Oh, ok. So talking with Santander they stated that the checking account number could not be located. Ok, so I asked if she could tell me the account number so I could verify the information. She said no. She didn't have access to that information. Ok I tell her that I will give her a check over the phone and go ahead and make my May payment too. Then I was told that they could not accept checks from me that I was going to have to get a money order because my checking account doesn't exist. But I could not verify the account they have on "file". I feel they like to collect all the late fees, all the return check fees and the fees for using their automated system. Because after all was said and done, it was like $125.00 extra. Oh but wait, they can waive to you last payment. Yeah right and pay interest on that also.

I do not recommend this bank. If you have to go through them, then you have to. But be aware that there might be hidden fees and maybe some practices that might seem a bit shady to you.

I contacted Santander to get payments deferred to the back of the loan and was told that they didn't offer deferments. I then called back and told them to pick the car up at which time the representative told me I could get payments deferred. This was a new program really 3 weeks later. I asked for three months to be deferred since I had now found someone to make the repairs for a better price. Motor was replaced and about a month later car was repoed stating that I was behind on my payments. I filed a complaint with the BBB and the response was that I never notified them that the car was inoperable. I only stated that I could not make my payments.

I retrieved the vehicle. Was told that the repo fee would be put to the back of the loan but still had to pay $2400 to get the car back which I was later told that this was to bring my payments that were supposed to be deferred current. This happen in December 2013. In June of 2014 I made my payment through Western Union. The payment hit my account. Before my direct deposit was posted I contacted customer service to see if the payment would be resubmitted and was told that it would not so I withdrew the funds to send the payment in. Two days later the car was repoed and I wasn't even 30 days late. I then had to pay $2600 to get the car back and was told that this included repo fees for this repo as well as the first repo yet when my account got credited the payment I was told was applied to the principal for three payments and misc fees which to this day I do not know what those fees are.

I have noticed when looking online my payment is split to principal and misc fees sometimes ranging from $26.00 to $450.00. I have sent certified letters requesting a detailed payment history three times with no response. I paid the principal balance due on January 5, 2015 and had over $2,000 in fees that I have been charged due in which I recently attempted to pay online again thru Western Union that which it didn't show the payment processed. Since I didn't get anything that showed payment made only an error message I then sent a check in for the full balance $563.26. Well the WESTERN UNION payment was presented to my bank and I was charged NSF fees twice. I sent my payment via check certified. Shows the payment was received and signed for on May 2, 2015 but still has not been presented to my bank.

I contacted Customer service where I was told that final payments can not be made by Western Union yet I have been hit twice with the payment and charged a return payment fee of $25. I have had reps to tell me that if my payment does not state what the payment is for they apply it accordingly. All payment sent in beginning September of 2014 to current have been sent certified with a return receipt because past payments although received by the due date or before are held and not processed for six or more days later with no explanation why. Let's start off at the first month of joining them, when I applied for easy line of credit for overdraft protection. The bank rep COMPLETELY butchered my SSN, so I never even had it to begin with. I went to a different branch to fix it, they said I needed to wait two billing cycles for proof of address (even though I've lived there for about 6 months at the time and receive PAPER statements from them).

THEN, I applied for a personal loan. BEFORE I SIGNED THE PAPERS, I asked if I could switch the payment date from the beginning of the month to the middle so I won't have rent and utilities AND the loan payment coming out of one paycheck and leaving me with almost $0 for two weeks. FOUR MONTHS LATER, I am fighting over $1300 worth of overdraft fees and penalties because they still haven't changed the date!! This is coming after SEVERAL UNANSWERED PHONE CALLS AND IGNORED EMAILS from three different branches AND customer service.

Earlier this week I went to a different bank just for some advice on what to do. Ten minutes later, their branch manager was sitting next to me comforting me, and told me that I needed to leave, and they preapproved me for a loan covering my personal loan and enough for the $1300+ I owe to the other bank. NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER USE THIS BANK. EVER.

I was approved for a 08 Ford fusion through Santander. 60 payments is all I was told with interest but if I refinanced it would be more like 52 payments. I was late on 3 payments so in 2014 I figured I'll just call and pay off the remaining balance. That should of been around $850 and was told no it was more like $9500 and what I had been paying was just interest for 4 years.

The next morning I'm leaving for work I 430 am. I sit down in the car, started it and a repo man pulls up behind me in the driveway up under the car while I'm in it and lifts it in the air tells to get out the car or he was calling the police so I did. The police let him take the car. He in turn gave a number to the police to give to me to call Santander. They told me if I gave them $1850 I could get my car back. After arguing with 3 maybe 4 people they gave me another number to America recovery. I got nothing but voice mail. I left several msg for days, weeks-- still no return call. Santander say they don't own the car anymore. I was not able to get a lot of irreplaceable items from the car cameras, pics of my first son's birth, a family bible, generations old money etc and on top of all that I'm told I have to still pay more than $400 of personal property tax on a car I did not own or was able to use for the years of the tax. I have had to jump through hoops to prove the payment was made. Because they claim I didn't, they repo'd the car. Finally they apply the payment, but will not take off the repo (since if they had applied the payment I would never have been put into repo status) saying that Citizens made the mistake. Since then, they've made login impossible online where it always says it doesn't know your account or customer number so I began sending payments via US postal mail. I then received an email saying that payments can be made through another company online (Charge Smart) saying that it's formerly, Santander/Drive Financial.

Despite making payments every month, the company repossessed the car saying that I owed 2076. (900 of which was repo and late payment fees -- not including the repo fees owed to the actual company that towed the car). This company Santander -- is horrible. The interest rates are ridiculous and despite working out agreements with them, they still find a way around things to add charges onto your account to make it late. When I called, the agent said that I made a payment March 23, April 15th yet on the 17th, she said I was 68 days late. I'm getting rid of the car if for no other reason than to not deal with this company.

Well a year came along and I went to three reputable finance agencies and not one would finance it because it was not worth the amount. So I called Chrysler capital (who I'm financed with) and they would not help me stating that it was not their issue; even though I'm paying them $697.00 a month and that my only option would be to turn in the car and lose all my credit or pay more often more money in hopes of bringing it down to possibly refinance.

So my only options are A) pay 60,000 for a car that's only worth 22,000 or B) ruin my credit for 7-10 years. I would have NEVER bought the car at such a high interest rate had Chrysler not told me verbally that I would be able to refinance it in a year no problem. He was approved for financing by Santander, of course for a higher interest rate. We were okay with it, just to get him started so he could build his credit and re-finance with another financial institution at a later date.

When it came time for his first payment, I was present with him when it was made by phone through the automated service. We monitored the account and when the funds were still in the account after the due date, we inquired as to why. On 3/26/15, we were told by the representative that it was their error and that they pulled the funds and placed them back into the account.

Then on 4/2/15, we were told that the account came up as non-existent. When calling in to verify the insurance on file (which we presented at the dealership), I was informed that we had not previously made the payment and that we were being charged the late fee and a fee for running the payment from the account. I spent almost 40 minutes with the Supervisor trying to straighten this out and still was told we would have pay $44 in fees.

I'm livid! This is a first payment on a new auto loan and the payment was made on time from an account that housed funds definitely in access of the payment. The Supervisor (located in Barbados) was very uncaring, hard-nosed and refused to admit error in the situation that the previous representative did. I definitely feel like this was a con to receive extra funds! And, now that I have reviewed the other complaints, I am convinced that this was a deceptive act. I do intend to pursue remedy.

He is young (18), new to getting loans. Yet we guided him thru our local CU to establish credit getting a personal loan and a small CC thru the CU we bank at a year ago.. So with that said, his Credit Score after a year has gone from Zero (a Ghost) to a Credit Score of 703...

So he applies for a loan thru this dealer and is forced to go thru Santander because he is young with no credit, so they give him a loan with 18% interest and charge him $2,700 acquisition fee for a $16,000 car loan. And get this, the dealer does not give my son any copies of the contract when driving off with vehicle. They tell him they have to mail them to him.. It has been 2 weeks and yet no copies have been received.

So naturally after all the questions we pound on out of our son, we find this all out. We immediately go to our CU to get him a loan thru them at 8%.. We inquire about the $2,700 fee with Santander, very rude on the phone and they said they give that money to the lender once they receive payoff. Uhm, all money has been funded and shown received according to our CU.

So my feeling is, my son just got ripped off on buying his first car!! Kids or any first time buyers, beware and don't hesitate to call for advise before signing a contract with crooks , they will take your money and then some... Everything I read, there is nothing we can do. Questions: 1. How is the dealer getting away with sending new car owners away without giving them copies of their contract? 2. I understand lenders being scared for risky buyers, he wasn't risky, he established credit with no defaults. Why the fee? Thru Santander we ended up signing papers to a $16,000 car with skyrocket interest and monthly payments. 15 months later we have paid Santander over $7,000 and our car payoff is $14,800! We are upside down in this and so angry! Finding someone to refinance the car for more than it's worth is near impossible, but this last week we found State Bank that helped us out of our bind. We will now celebrate that we no longer have to deal with Santander again and would advise everyone to NOT do business with them! They are dishonest and hard to work with. It is not worth all the trouble!

I have an issue, that the bank deducted money from my account for a car loan, which I already closed. And three days ago I called the customer service and talked to a manager on the name "George" and he informed me that he would send to accounting department a request to approve for the refund and he will call me back to confirm. But he didn't. So I called yesterday to ask about him and agent who answered me informed me she will transfer to him. And I stayed on hold for 10 minutes without a reply or answer.

When I called today, I asked that I want to talk to a manager, she said that none is available because ALL are at lunch. And she will send a request to make someone call me back. And NO ONE called. So I called back AGAIN. This time I was transferred to manager successfully, whose name is Marcus. After explaining to him the problem from the beginning he said he will check with George and I can call him back after one hour and he gave me his direct number. When I called Marcus again after one hour again as we agreed I found that the number is WRONG. So I had to call customer service again. Agent who answered me said he will send an e-mail to Marcus to make him call me back. And he DIDN'T.

I never received the title. Now, when I call, they claim to have sent it out in August, which is a lie. And they have now sent me to a site to buy a title for $45. This is clearly an attempt to get more money from me since they never sent an initial title. Imagine if I would have told them this: "I sent your money before. Oh it didn't come? Too bad.” And they have no proof whatsoever that they mailed it. I'm just supposed to pay because they have me by the short and curlies. 0 stars!!!

In the last year, Santander ATMs have given me four different sizes of ATM receipts. The latest receipts are nearly half sheet of standard paper. This week they issued me a new debit card. When I tried to activate it, they froze my account for five days. Want me to go on? In the last two months I have received dozens of marketing calls from Santander.

In the last year, they have denied me access to my funds, through the ATM machine at least a dozen times. Never were my funds insufficient. They charged me three overdraft fees for insufficient funds in my checking account. The check that I deposited was from their bank and was noted on my deposit. I wrote Santander’s bank code on the deposit slip. They rescinded the overdraft fees, but said I should have made the teller aware of the fact that I was depositing a check that was written from their bank. Santander bank is a Spanish owned, incompetent cooperation. Do yourself a favor and close your account. I did.

Santander held a loan for me & my husband years ago when we didn't have the best credit, and when we didn't have a lot of money. We ended up paying $18K, for a $9K car, and when we finally made our last payment, we celebrated because we had established credit by that time and were making good money. We purchased another car through Citi Bank, with a great interest rate, and we sighed a huge sigh of relief because we would never again have to deal with the rudeness of their customer service.

However, Santander ended up buying out our loan from Citi Bank and we now have to deal with their rudeness once again, also, if you call to make a payment through their automated line, they will ALWAYS want you to pay for next month in advance, so if you aren't paying close attention, they will drain your bank account, and then have no remorse for it. This company is so horrible, that if, in the future, they try to buy out a loan with my name on it, I will go refinance anywhere else, literally, I will pay higher interest if need be, just to not ever deal with this company again.

I spent hours on the phone with many dropped calls and hand-offs to the next person then have to explain story all over. After two days of the runaround I went to the local branch, North Street, Plymouth, Ma. Wanting to reduce the risk of losing more money I wanted to take cash from my checking account and open an account in another bank, in cash. The North St. Branch had only one third of the cash on hand so I took what they had and asked to put the rest in a savings account. The next day I went to another branch cashed out and closed my savings account. I got my money but the bank never closed the account, my next meeting with the branch manager on North St about the fraud knowing the account didn't show the withdrawal.

I asked to close my savings again, she wrote up the slip and was going to the teller to get it, 21,500.00. I had to stop her! What would have happened if I took the money?! Maybe I should have! The branch manager told me it would have gone through and I would have got the money! I still haven't seen the money from the fraud, but I have gone with a small local bank. Don't make the mistake I made, stay away this bank. I have nothing good to say about them. They can't keep track of their money..

So after getting every dime they are owed, I now have to wait over a month to get the insurance money I need to replace the vehicle and be screwed with no car in the meantime cause I'm not made of money. Their customer service is useless and rude and their so called office of the President is some made up department to try to make customers think they might actually get somewhere when in reality these people don't have any authority to do anything either. So I don't see how they can legally hold my money and probably collect interest on it while I sit here and get screwed by them, but that's what's happening.

I was charged 2,000 from a company I had never heard of, and an overdraft fee because I don't keep that much in my checking account. The company immediately refunded the fee, but somehow because the company I never heard of auto-refunded the charge I could no longer dispute the overdraft fee as a mistake. Yes if a company realizes their mistake and refunds you immediately afterwards it no longer is possible it's a banking mistake, apparently a refund means it was valid charge as far as their concerned and thus fair game to charge fees on.

I was eventually strong armed into closing the account as fraud, even though I pointed out the charge was clearly a mistake and not fraudulent, and told that they would refund my 35 dollar fee only if I closed the account as fraudulent. The bank lost my paperwork and took over 2 weeks to transfer me to the new account. During which my money was held hostage and I ended up being late on paying my rent because they wouldn't let me use my own money! They implied the transfer would take no more than 2 business days when I asked to avoid this issue.

When I spoke to them during the 2 weeks while I waited for the new account to be opened, they told me that they didn't refund the money when closing the account, but I couldn't talk to them about a refund until the new account was open. When the new account was opened I was told that they couldn't refund me my money because that happened on the old account that was now closed. And they can't refund money on an old account, which I only closed because they told me I had to to get my money. After a long discussion with a manager, he 'promised' to elevate the issue and that I would get a call in a week with more information, though it sounded like a dismissal to get me off the phone. I never got my call.

A month later I find out my account was closed!! No one knows what the account is. I explain I don't have the account number, since it is a new account that I haven't gotten any checks or debit card yet and I do everything online so I don't have paper statements. They tell me I can't look up the account. The account had 400 dollars in it that no one seems to know what happened to it.

I finally get a check for the 400 dollars, no explanation why the account was closed. The check went to an old address, but this was due to a recent move on my part and not their fault. However, they claimed I had a 0 balance and never told me that checks were sent out; I had to think to check the old address. Oh better yet, the money shows as already withdrawn. If I wasn't able to get the checks *sent to a wrong address without informing me they were sent* I would have had no way of getting my money back at all. Lucky my old roommate is more trustworthy than my bank is or he would have my 400 dollars. Of course since the account is now closed they can't discuss the 35 dollar charge on the account. Nor can they send me statements or explain why the account is closed.

I got the usual run around between departments trying to figure any of this out. They constantly tried to make me go to the bank. Even after I explained that the closest bank was an hour away from my new address AND they admitted that the bank had no more access to information to address my concerns than they do online, they still insisted I spend 2 hours of driving to go to a bank they admit won't be any more capable of helping me.

The last women I spoke to, a manager, was so busy acting as if I didn't know what an overdraft fee meant and otherwise assuming I was utterly ignorant that she didn't listen to me. Even when I asked simple and polite questions she was too busy explaining what an overdraft fee was or telling me I must have somehow 'forgot' that I transferred money out of the account to answer questions. I literally had to ask 4 times to get her to tell me when the overdraft fee was charged and how much the original charge that caused the fee was made because she kept repeating the explanation of what an overdraft fee was like I was an idiot that didn't hear it the first three times.

When I was finally asked to have a statement sent to me (because she was being so useless answering basic questions about the statement that it was easier to get a printout than have to deal with her again), she put me on hold for a while then told me that there was a department that I could be transferred to but it was closed. I told her I would call back when it was open and asked for the name of the department, she would not give me the name! She was in full on "get off the phone I can't help you mode" that she wouldn't listen to me. I already said I was ready to get off the phone, all I was asking for is the name of the department so I knew how I should ask to be redirected to. She says "they will know who", ignoring the fact that it took me more than 45 minutes to hear about this supposed department. To be frank I wonder if the department even exists or she made it up to get me off the phone, but if it did exist telling me how I can request it to save me 45 minutes of talking to people would have been better than not taking 3 times as long to say "la la la not listening get off the phone" while I tried to ask a simple question.

I wouldn't have kept her on the phone that long to ask if she hadn't previously failed to answer simple questions that she had access to while treating me like an idiot, I sort of took it as par for the course that I have to ask 4 times to get an answer to questions because she refuses to listen long enough to understand what I was asking. I still don't have my refund, I've been charged additional fees because they keep making my money disappear (by closing the account twice) without explanation to where my money is. I still don't have the 400 dollars that was in the account when it was closed the second time. The only slight saving grace is I had been annoyed by them enough that I had transferred most of my money out of the account while leaving only enough to cover charges I anticipated on that account at the time it was closed; so I'm not completely without money when they YET AGAIN close my account and left my money in limbo.

He told me I would receive papers sent via US mail that I would need to sign/date and return either via FedEx or fax to the # indicated in the instructions. These documents were received and I immediately signed/dated the documents and faxed to the # indicated since I was told they had to be received 10 days from the date of the letter (which was 12/3/14). I noticed the deferment months listed were November and December, however, I had been told by London the months would be December and January with no payment due until 2/20/15.

I called Customer Service on 12/5/14 and spoke with Monte - he told me once the November payment posted to my account, the deferred months would automatically change to December and January. He suggested I call back on 12/10/14 which I forgot to do. I believed everything was OK with the deferment request and confirmed my November payment had been paid via my online banking (since Chrysler Capital charges to pay over the phone). On 12/15/14, I received an email reminder about my December payment, which was to have been deferred. THUS BEGAN MY 12/15/14 CHRYSLER CAPITAL CUSTOMER SERVICE NIGHTMARE. I spent from 6PM to 930PM Eastern Time speaking with various reps and supervisors - was given 2 additional fax #s to send the documents - one of which was "not in service" - after sending the fax to the other #, I received another fax confirmation. I requested call backs from both supervisors after they received the faxes - which I never received because they are saying they never received my faxes.

The first supervisor I spoke (Ms. **) with gave me 2 different stories - the first being that my deferment could not be approved until the paperwork was received - then she contradicted herself and said she had the authority to approve the deferment. No call back from Ms. ** led to yet another call to Customer Service where I spoke with Tiana ** who gave me the 3rd fax # - she also transferred my call to Ms. **. She indicated the deferment had been approved, but after listening to my frustrations, she offered to open a complaint with the Office of the President on my behalf - and told me I would get a return call within 24 hours (that remains to be seen). I asked if I could email the deferment documents to her and she provided her email address. I composed a letter outlining what had happened and attached the scanned documents. Can you guess what happened? The email came back as undeliverable - even though I had confirmed her email address several times before our call ended.

When I called Customer Service back again, I spoke with Monte (who just so happened to be the person I spoke with on 12/5/14) - he apologized for the ongoing problems but then proceeded to tell me that since a complaint had been sent to the Office of the President he was unable to assist me further. By this time, it was 930PM. When I got to work this morning, I immediately tried to resend the fax and the email - with no success. I also am researching credit unions in the area in an attempt to refinance my vehicle. It will be interesting to see if I receive a call from the Office of the President as other posts on this site indicate the likelihood of that happening is slim to none. We shall see!!

At one point I set up bill pay through my bank account and was told by a rep at Santander that they never received my bill pay so I made a payment over the phone and paid their ridiculous 15 dollar fee. Well the next day I was double charged by the company. They took my over the phone payment and cashed the bill payment sent through my account. They tried to blame the bank like all companies do but I work for the bank and spoke to someone in the department and they gave me the date Santander received my bill pay. So my rent check bounced and I was put off money for a few days and with being a single mom that doesn't receive any assistance or child support that's not acceptable. So I called today because I noticed my pay periods fall differently this month and I wanted to ensure that my payment was made when money was available because I do not want anything bouncing and I was told by a manager through the company in the past that changing the date would never be a problem. Well I was hung up on by a rep trying to switch my due date and then I called back in and immediately asked for a manager. The woman I spoke to thought it was acceptable to laugh and chuckle at me after I let her know I was not happy at all with their customer service department.

I then had to explain to her that it is not acceptable to laugh or chuckle at an angry customer, she chuckled again so I asked for an email confirmation to show they changed my due date so if they double charge me again I have something I can show my landlord or email to the department at work to show incorrect double payment, she told me they would not do that for me. So I'm suppose to take the word from a company that has double charged me before? I was not ok with that so I asked to speak to her boss. Was still denied the confirmation and was then told my automatic payment had not been canceled for the 13th that a recording was just done. So the company had all intention on double charging me again. I will be looking to do an early refinancing and I would advise others to not go through this company because I've been lied to multiple times and treated badly and I've never been late or short on a payment. So goes to show if you are a good customer they will treat you awful still. So all of you can find another company to go through then do so.

Bank with Santander - BEWARE! On 11/29 my debit and credit cards were physically stolen. I discovered this on the evening of 11/30. I quickly started making calls to everyone. I found that the thief was already using the cards. My credit cards with other banks were wonderful. My debit card with another bank stopped a transaction immediately from being authorized. Santander was another story.

First, I only had $13.29 in my Santander account yet they authorized a transaction for $823.53 immediately throwing my account into the negative available balance despite the fact that it was a weekend and the transaction was only pending. They refused to open up a claim until the transaction finalized and the thief got my money. They refused to escalate the matter to a manager until I threatened that I would not stop until I see the supervisor in the call center fired. I had to threaten with complaints to department of banking and insurance in NJ where I bank and in Rhode Island where the representative call center was located.

I spoke to a manager and still got nowhere.

To add to the stupid policies that protect and empower the criminal, I was able to find out that the transaction was with Appleonline.com but they refused to call the vendor. While they blocked my card from further debit activity, they refused to provide me with the debit card number so that I can call Apple, pull up the transaction and stop it. They told me it was for my own security and the only way I can get the number of a blocked card is by going into the branch the next day with photo ID. Let's give the criminal more time to acquire the merchandise they fraudulently purchased!

I walked into the branch on 12/1 and did obtain my debit card number. When I asked why this transaction was approved in the first place, the personal banker quickly got on the phone with his offices hoping to get me a answer. No answer ever came. They could not explain it. They still could not flag the transaction as fraudulent or open up a fraud claim. As a matter of fact they would not even speak to him until I provided them information on a recent transaction, exact date and to the penny, to validate my identity. Seriously? I am in the bank with photo ID in front of one of their employees calling from one of their branches.

In stark contrast, I called Apple, they flagged the order as fraudulent. They further advised me that the criminal used a name that was not my name on the card based on what I told them. So, a transaction went through for an amount of $810 over my balance with someone entering a name that is not mine on the card. Yet they refuse the flag it as fraudulent until the money posts. The pending transaction is tying up my bill payments, unless I run to the bank and fund fraudulent activity. WHO ARE THEY PROTECTING???

Today is 12/5 and the transaction is still pending and my account is still negative. Routine payments set for the 1st have been returned and now I am late on payments. The only saving grace is that I was able to stop a direct deposit scheduled to hit on 12/1. If they won't acknowledge the fraudulent activity I will let the account sit there until they do. I filed a police report on 11/30 and filed a claim with the Department of Banking and Insurance. I am currently investigating if there is a way I can pursue damages from this account for the impact to financial credibility and all the time spent trying to fix this. There is a branch in every town in my county. I have lived here a long time and will make it my goal to discourage as many people as I can from banking with them. They will not protect you if you have your identity or credit cards stolen. They will empower the criminal and help to victimize you.

I was just trying to get my December payment deferred and pick back up in January like normal. I was told they needed 10 days and I just spoke with them and was denied! Seriously!?!?!?

I got two months behind on my credit card payment because of everything. I spoke to the bank the morning my mother died and explained the situation and that I was 1000+ miles from my home and did not have my checks. I did the right thing the following month with the life insurance money I received. I paid off the entire card 5,500, with the bank, not a collection agency or anything like that....the bank. Imagine my shock when I went to use it and it didn't work. Yup, they cancelled my card, despite knowing everything going on, and a reliable payment history until My mother took a turn for the worse. I was screwed over by this bank for doing what I thought was the right thing.

There are so many other things I could have done with that money and I paid it because now that I am really on my own I wanted an emergency credit card in case God forbid something happened since I no longer have parents. Well nothing better happen because Santander ruined that plan. I threw 5500 down the drain. I should have let it go to collections. So be warned doing the right thing with this company can get you absolutely nothing.

On 11/14/14, I had committed the biggest mistake by stepping in Santander Spanish bank in Whiting, NJ 08759 wishing to open a account/loans. Every unrealistic good offers, (Scams) were benefits offer, so good to be truth. This person named K. ** and her assistant had offer me $70,000 loan with an interest of 3.25% and for 15 years credit line, with the condition that I had to move my checking account and direct deposit of my Social Security pension and my Annuities small pension to this Santander bank, which I did agree to their condition. Also, I had to open a saving account besides a checking account and pay my bill directly from Santander. Two days later, when I came back to do the close of these Loans, this woman insist that I have to transfer my S.S. pension before finish the closet, which I remain her that I had told her that Social S. will not transfer my pension, at least I go and sign an agreement, and after closed the Loan with Santander great Scam bank.

This woman got to said and had changed the Interests from 3.25% to 4.49% which according to the other Santander branch in Manchester, NJ is for business companies. I told her that it was the agreement. She said, "it was if you had a open account with us." I said, "I do have one, but you have to finish with closing the loans, and I will be glad to move my pension direct deposit." I had to follow the S. S. conditions not this bank Santander scamming. She got very rude, poor manners, what sad me a great deal. She said, "Anyway, your are not qualify for a loans". I learning that they want only me to move my account to that scamming bank and not approving a loan to me.

I told her that due to her nastiness attitudes and trying to scam me, I will close my account with that Santander bank. She responded, "Go ahead, everyone is going. You can not close you account today, you have to wait, and come back tomorrow". I did come. I called the 888 toll free to report this bank. The answer was that this bank is international and they can no do anything to help me. It had made me very nervous because I had bad experiences in the past with another international bank while traveling overseas. When I came back to this bank that woman was not there. They told me she is too busy and she had traveling to take courses and conferences. I said, "It is not my business what she busy or whatever. She told me come back to close my account." This other woman told me that I could withdrawal some money and wait for her until Friday.

I requested for her superior and this other woman told me that the woman who committed the scam is the boss in this branch. Now I really want to scream so what I said I want my money now. I am not happy to have my money in an international bank which can mafia might do their laundry money in it, and not wonder this woman is so scamming. I left the Bank, and in less than an hour, the police came to my house. I was surprised. Never in my whole life could believe this bank to cover their own garbage was capable of accusing me of doing wrong to them. The Official told me that Santander bank accused me of treating them with the Mafia, and that they do not want me to go back to that Santander bank. It is not truth.

What had I said was that I do not want do business with people who had tried to scam me, and an international bank that might had bad reputation of mafia laundry. I never, for God's sakes, had threatened that woman and nobody else in my life. I will never threaten anyone, especially in front of other people. I am not that dumb and not crazy. Today I had to go to the police station to give my version and to advise them to watch up for the people in Whiting because in this city everyone is elder, retired people which many of them are half way senility, Alzheimer's etc. etc. Any of this people who enter in that bank will be rip off, it is pretty sure. The police advise me to go other Santander branch which is cross street form the police station. If they will give me problems, call them.

In the new Branch a gentleman asking me why I am closing my account in three days after I had opened it. I told my my version and agree with me that the 4.49% interest for that Equity loans is for business people and not for a mortgage loan from someone who had a checking/savings account with the bank. Very polite, he tried to convince me to keep the account and had explaining him as two civilized business people that I do not like dealing with foreign banks due that those banks have bad reputation. Then, he closed my two accounts, no more replicas, but bad experiences, hard feelings against this Santander and other international banks. I will not recommend anybody to even think in visit these kinds of banks. Not even to my worst enemy. I believe I do not have one.

Besides this woman who had the nerve to call the police in a customer who had gone to them for business in good faith and end in the police station, and accused wrongly by a criminal who tried to incriminate the victim of her own crime. I only wish someone in the law stop this bank from rip off innocent people even worst the elderlies who live in short check form their social security benefits. It is a terrible crime and someone should stop this bank and make it move out of USA. Spain did so bad to America continent. Why permit them to come back here to continue ripping off innocent and especially elder people like myself? I am 74 and a half years old, still working and had to deal with criminal that torn around and accused me? God have Mercy in that evil woman, a wolf covered with a lamb fur.

Chrysler charged additional interest on the loan and refused to waive it because I cannot prove it was their fault for not applying the payment promptly. The payment was sent via regular mail without a tracking number, so I have no proof of when they actually received it. They will not release my title until I pay this additional finance charge. This is totally unacceptable and after speaking with customer service multiple times and also the President's Office, they refused to waive the additional charges. Thank goodness I personally have no involvement with this predatory lender, but it has been my misfortune to come in contact with them in trying to help a friend who made the mistake of financing a car with this scam business. So far a charge for $100.55 cents has shown up on the credit card I authorized these criminals to take a $2,000 payment on when they refused to allow me to pay off the loan and charged me $10.95 just to pay them $2,000.00. Four days later this other charge showed up. I write this as I speak to the fraud department of my credit card company, incredulous that they did not simply refuse the charge. I have found three separate class action suits filed against these crooks and have come across seemingly limitless tales of people who paid their bills and had vehicles taken for no reason and others who are still waiting for their title, two years after they paid off their loan.

My credit card company just removed this 5% unauthorized surcharge, and hopefully will look into the matter to find out how this could happen. In the meantime, best advice I can give is to stay far away from Banco Santander consumer credit, USA. They give what I always believed to be a fine Spanish bank a very bad name and I can't help but wonder if they have any legitimate association with the financial institution whose name they are so badly abusing. I am contacting my states attorney general.

I had a bankruptcy in 2005 so my credit wasn't very good. I wanted a really nice car so went to CarMax. Santander offered to buy my loan but at 24% interest which is ridiculous, but I needed a new car. The loan term was from Feb 2010 to Feb 2016, 6 years - 547.00 a month. Now, I went into this paying ATTENTION during the signing of the buyer papers - so yes, 24%, 6 years long. I'm fortunate because my income is very high - so I could qualify for a more expensive auto.

Yes, if you do the math ahead of time you're paying nearly double the car's worth - but do you need a reliable car? In my case, I went with a Toyota that was a convertible. Low miles. I've always driven Toyotas and know their reliability and built like tanks... so, knowing I would be paying high interest, knowing I'd have it for a long time, I chose a very attractive, very reliable, 'fun' car. Not a domestic that would break down over 6 years and make me bored with it.

Santander has postponed my payment upon my request 3 times total throughout the loan. They've been more than fair during the car loan. I'm going to start paying an extra 1,000 a month to pay it down sooner so I can trade it in. Moral of the story - I do believe that Santander makes mistakes, maybe even more frequently than other financiers, but for me I knew what I was getting into and they've held up their end of the bargain and I've held up mine. If you make your payments on time and choose a car wisely you should have no issues.

So the branch on Social St in Woonsocket, RI is the closest Santander to me after moving from Massachusetts almost a year ago. I don't have much need for in bank services, so the fact that it isn't very clean or convenient isn't that big of a deal. I had an issue with the ATM in the lobby inexplicably going out of order one time after my card was in it and I was trying to withdraw money on a Sunday. The screen all of a sudden is showing Chinese (or Japanese) lettering, my transaction stops. There's no one obviously working on a Sunday. After pushing the cancel button about 25 times, and finally waiting about 5 minutes...it kicks my card out. No money, but hey...I got my card back.

2 weeks ago I'm driving through the drive thru ATM about 4:30 on a Tuesday. Insert card, start transaction to withdraw money, same thing happens. Some form of Asian messaging, I hit cancel a couple dozen times, sit there and wait a few minutes, and notice an employee looking out of the drive thru window looking at me. I go over and ask if she can eject the card please and get, "Sorry, we don't service that machine". Ummmm, isn't it a Santander ATM? "Yes, but an outside third party manages it." Oh, that's wonderful to know!! She tells me that the machine won't kick the card back out, she'll have to cancel it, and order me a new one.

So already frustrated knowing I'm now going to have to change my card number on at least 5 sites that I pay bills directly online with, I ask how long. "It will be 5-7 business days, what's your account number?" So I tell her and wait. And wait. And wait. Today, 10/20/14, would be the 8th business day, no card in the mail, so I call the 877 number for Santander to ask what's taking so long. Guess what? She never ordered me a new card!!! Not only that, didn't cancel the other!! There is an option to rush my new card, but I'm told that's $30. Why would you waive that fee? I mean it was your lazy employee that couldn't be bothered to order me a new card as she said she would. Thanks Santander. Finally after being with Sovereign/Santander since 2000 it's time to switch to a bank that cares about its customers.

My family had an opportunity to better themselves but to do so my husband had to stop working and take a class that started in the middle of a month. In order to keep our child in daycare with no issues of putting food on the table I requested a 2 month deferment through Santander, and the reason they denied it is still boggles my mind. Apparently because I tried to take care of this the month before I needed it which was the end of September to cover October November payment, I was denied for being a current good standing customer. The solution when I asked what do we do to make this right since I qualify for 2 months of deferment or hardship, their solution was do not make my October payment and on the 30th of October call and request another deferment. Not only does a deferment take 10 business days to get approved or denied, apparently they want you to be in poor standing to even consider it.

So I asked for different representatives to get me to the deferment department so I could speak with somebody to do something. I got the runaround, I got talked to like I was an idiot and still never got the deferment department. So when I brought to dirt engine that they're asking me to put my account in bad standing with phone in order to request another deferment, I was told I can make a partial payment and stay in good standing with the company and then put in for another deferment at the end of the month, again when my bill is due and what I don't pay this month would be at it to my November payment is my deferment was again rejected.

So when I asked if that would put a :- on my credit report I was told no. I asked, "Would there be a late fee?" No reply. So I asked her again, "would I have a late fee and how much would the late fee be?" She would not tell me how much the late fee would be or confirm or deny that there would be a late fee. So to no avail, I not only won't be getting a deferment that'll help keep food on my family's table in December, I won't be requesting one because I'm not going to go into default on my account. Apparently this company wants me to be a bad customer which after 5 years of trying to fix my credit I cannot bring myself to do. I won't be attempting to get another deferment and I hope this did anybody trying to fix their credit from using this company.

I called back today and they said I was 85 days past due which I wasn't. I made a payment in January, February, March and April. My payments didn't happen for May and June. The MANAGER today said it was for April and May and I was wrong. I made a payment in July and August, and my September payment wasn't due until the end of the month, so 2 weeks ago.

I asked where the 85 days was from and she couldn't tell me, just that I needed to ** calm down. No, my car is gone and I just made a payment. She said it was applied for June that was skipped. Even then, it doesn't apply for 85 days. No one ever sent out a letter, tried called us (my dad was my cosigner). My payments were 419.32 a month for 72 months and my total never dropped. It was hopeless. At one point last yr, I asked about a voluntary repo and they said fine but it would still show as an involuntary repo. Really? So I kept the car and got back on track. Now this. I filed a law complaint and a BBB complaint. Apparently Santander realized something was wrong because the manager opened a complaint for me after I got hung up on. So once they find it was their mistake, I will make sure I don't owe a single dime for this POS which is only worth 5600 and I owe 12,000 on it after 2 yrs!

Proved this in bank statements two times in 4 months. They also told me the Fiat was up for repossession. I told them the last known location the car was in and after 3 weeks of not hearing anything I am getting calls from Santander that they were still looking for it. My family was calling me to inform me that several repo men had been on their property looking into their garage through the garage window. Then 2 customer service agents call me to report the car has been found and they want money for it for me to get it back.

Another few days after I am told that the car is still up for repossession and if I don't know where it's at to contact the police to report it stolen. I do that, having the cop call Santander, but they refuse to offer him any information. So the car cannot be reported stolen. I then get several repeated calls day after day, sometimes 2x a day, stating the car is up for repossession and I need to pay on it because if I do they will drop the repo fees at $400.00 a pop for over 8 times. The operations manager had called me to argue with me, refusing to acknowledged I had called the police and two of his associates had reported to me that the car had been picked up. To the best of my knowledge from investigating myself, the car had been returned to Gee Auto, where it was originally purchased on 09-27-2014.

I got another call from another Santander agent who told me the car had been picked up on 10-2-14. When she told me this, it was 10-5-14. I am still getting harassment calls for the car and if it is not stolen, where is it and why am I getting so many contradictions from Santander? I have already contacted the Attorney General in my area under Consumer Fraud.

They showed me a contract showing after the interest is added I will pay $14,000 for the car. This is not so.

I was a cosigner for a vehicle that my nephew bought through CarMax and they used Santander. The obligation of a cosigner states that "if they do not pay the loan, then I am responsible for this" which I agreed. Well apparently my niece/nephew did not make payments on this vehicle for over 8 months and then the car was repossessed. Never once did I receive a phone call or a letter stating that this vehicle was in default. Just this past month (which apparently the car was repossessed in May of 2011), I went to get a loan and was told that there is a $7,300 charge off on my credit for this vehicle. Needless to say I have put in an investigation on my credit because the laws in my states says that I should have been notified, had the opportunity to pay the car which I would have done.

Up till now I have made 41 payments of 435 per month and I'm still owe them over 11,000 dollars. So I call them to see if I could refinance due to me have been making all my payments on time and of course they said NO. If my calculations are correct I will end up paying almost 30,000 for a 14,000 dollar car. Shouldn't this be illegal? By the way my car has 175000 miles and it's worth around 3500 on the Blue Book. What should I do?

I always wanted a Ralliart or Evolution model, but because I had less than perfect credit, and a dealership willing to work with me, I settled on a basic model. Got a loan through Santander. They were the only ones who would work with me (unfortunately). Seemed great at the time. $455 a month. I was making $100 a day at Olive Garden. Then I lost my job. Got behind a few weeks on a payment. They'd call me constantly even after I spoke with someone the day/night before. Always the same routine. I'd make partial payments (I'd pay $220 one week, then $220 another week... totaling $460 for one month). They seemed okay with it.

I just started a new job three weeks ago. I was only two weeks late with this month's payment. Woke up this morning to a pounding on my door from my neighbors telling me my car was being towed, which means repossessed. I just made a partial payment three days ago and a lady by the name of Marguerite told me I was fine. I received no letter about my car being repossessed. No warning. I spoke with a representative today and he only could tell me that he was so sorry about the inconvenience this caused me and that the lady by the name of Marguerite was not accurate with her info. Then he said I can't get my car back if I don't provide $1500 to the vendor where my car is being held and that they will auction it off. Tell me now, how is this legal?

No one can explain why only that they gave me 35.00 back as a courtesy. Since when is fixing your own mistake a courtesy? Plus according to my internet banking the funds were available. So now you rewrite the check plus 35.00 extra for the charge that the person cashing my check got charged... And they do the same thing! My internet banking reads that the funds are available; however, my check bounced a second time!

I am noticing on my internet banking that it's always a day behind if you look at the date. I think that they take money out as soon as it is presented against your account but it seems to take longer than the two days for money to be credited to your account. The whole while overdraft charges are adding up to millions that this company misleadingly takes from people who are barely getting by to begin with! I am done dealing with Santander. It's a shame they can rationalize their underhandedly stealing from hardworking people 35 dollars at a time!

In June 2014 I leased a 2014 Jeep Compass through Chrysler Capital. The initial leasing experience went smoothly, my credit check was swift and the paperwork was effortless. Chrysler was very efficient with getting me the information I needed to lease the vehicle. Unfortunately my vehicle was struck by a driver who neglected to yield at a required intersection and my vehicle was deemed a total loss by our insurance provider. While the accident was scary, my injuries were minimal and the payment to Chrysler Capital was taken care of within the week. Now it is time to flash forward to the bad news.

Upon leasing my vehicle I was encouraged to put money down in order to buy down my monthly payments and have more money towards owning the vehicle at the end of my 36-month payment term. It sounded like a wise investment and I put down $4000 towards my leased vehicle. After the accident I contacted Chrysler in regards to being paid back for my down payment. They had received payment for the entirety of the car, plus still had the $4,000 of my down payment, taxes and registration fees. After MULTIPLE calls to C.C. and hours of hold time my request was "escalated to management and transferred to the 'Office of the President.'" Well that sounded like a positive step until I received the same mediocre service I had at the 1-800-customer service level.

My concerns were barely heard and all I was given was a "Sorry, we don't reimburse that money." There was no details or explanation given, just "sorry." So I requested a copy of the exact clause in my lease in which they based their decision to retain my payment. WEEKS later I receive a simple 1 page scanned copy of a lease. The best part is that it was only printed on a 1/4 of the page in font so small it cannot be read without a magnifying glass. Yup, no clause was highlighted and even if it had been, I wouldn't have been able to read it.

If this wasn't enough, I also received a letter from C.C. today stating their "Intent to Repossess." That's right, Chrysler is still charging me lease payments for a car I am no longer driving and in which they have already been paid for. I instantly called C.C. where I waiting on hold for another 40 min to be transferred to the Office of the President only to be told they do not show payment from my insurance. I then get my insurance agent on the phone who e-mails me proof of payment complete with the Chrysler Capital stamp. So, where is the money? Why am I still be charged? And best of all, how will this affect my credit? I can't wait to see how the next chapter of this horror story will turn out. Bottom line, I will NEVER do business with this company again, nor will I ever let anyone I care about even consider getting involved.

Well I was scammed by Chrysler Capital (Santander) and the Dealership Deskins Motors I bought the truck from. First the Dealership Forged my name to the application and then lied about my income saying I made $4500 a month when I am disabled. They told me I could get it refinanced in 6 months and I couldn't and one dealership told me to look into it because someone lied. So I did and contacted the Dealership and Santander to send me the contract and application since I never gotten them when I purchased the truck. Come to find out they lied about the whole deal. They tried to charge me $60,000 for a 2009 Dodge truck and $814.00 a month payment, when the salesman said it just be $35,000 after finances and all. And Santander didn't even look into this. This whole deal with this truck is nothing but lies.

Then I told the dealership and Santander I would report them for fraud so they both wanted me to just give the truck back and act like I never bought it and I said NO. Then Santander's rep called me and he just laugh at me over it and told me to just take it back to them. And I told him NO. Then 6 months later Deskins Motors decide they want to work out something so I go in and see what they could do. But of course they said they couldn't do anything and wanted me to give them the truck back and said if I didn't then it just get repo and go against my credit report and I get stuck with the bill and I finally told them, "NO, I'll just take my chances," and so a little while later we had come to an agreement, that IF I dropped everything and signed a paper that they would pay my truck off for ME and the truck would be MINE and told my Boyfriend since he was friends of the family to consider this as a goodwill cause they don't normally do this for anyone.

Well I felt like I was being pressured into doing something I didn't want to do and being Manipulated and Humiliated by this dealership and Santander from all the stuff they put me through and now the Dealership is not keeping their part of the deal. They lied to us just to get out of this screw up they did. But it's not over. I will report them both. The Dealership Deskins Motors and Santander are nothing but a bunch of Crooks. I wouldn't recommend anyone to buy from them or Finance through Santander. I am seeking a attorney and will report The Dealership Deskins Motors and Santander for Fraud and False Promising.

I wrote Dodge Corporation and I haven't received a response from them. Everyone that has had trouble with Deskins Motors Inc. and Santander needs to report them to the FTC and other higher authorities and let's get them Investigated for ripping us off and get them shut down so they can't rip anybody else off. I feel I was pressured and manipulated into signing the agreement paper and then they're not keeping their part of the agreement. I would like to discuss this matter with either an Attorney. I have been put through pure hell for 6 months with these two businesses and I am fed up with them both.

I told them they were wrong because I checked my checking account right after leaving the store AND IT ALREADY DEDUCTED THE MONEY FROM MY ACCOUNT! Essentially, it took it out twice.

Following Santander's "logic", it took the bill nearly a week and a half to process. How convenient! And the best part? If I don't pay it back after 6 days, they charge me $35! Do not use Santander unless you'd like to have an inconvenience of having to wait days at a time for checks to clear, and have to worry about going over in the meantime. Essentially, your "available balance" is not accurate. Oh, and don't forget they don't clear deposited paychecks for sometimes up to a week. I deposited a paycheck for only $235. $200 came through 3 days after I deposited it, then the extra $35 came through a week later. Great bank, everyone, for people who like to get screwed.

I have an auto loan with Santander Auto Finance and I'm paying for a 2006 Chevy Avalanche with 72 months at $494.00 a month. Ok I've made 67 payments so far and lately on my statements I've noticed that the amount is not coming down like it should to reflect only having 5 more months that I thought being it was a 72-month loan. The balance on the statement still says $4200 with a payoff of $4300. How do they figure this?

I called and they said the amount was correct because I was late numerous times. I told them I was only late one time, the other times were within their 10-day grace period. They also said I asked to defer a payment a few times. Well yes I understood this because my maturity date moved from 11/25/2014 to 1/25/2015. I told them I should only owe around $2500 because I had a maturity date of 1/25/2015. That's five more months, 5 x $494.00 with comes to the amount of $2500. They said this is not correct, that even after 1/25/2015 I will still be getting billed every month, that I owe $4300.

I then asked what is gonna be my new maturity date. They said probably another 6 months after 1/25/2014. They couldn't even give a date. I feel that they are adding fee upon fee and my loan amount never seems to going down. I should only pay 72 months of payments. Now it seems like there's no telling when it's gonna be paid off. I'm suffering financially right now and can't afford to play their crooked games and lose hard earned money. I can barely afford to pay rent and feed my family. Thought that the finish line was near but now I feel lost, defeated, and cheated.

In the past I had been subjected to fraud by a company that would never apply payments to principal, so I asked for reassurances and they told me to check back online in a few days. When I logged back online I saw the amount had been used to pay my next one & one/fourth months of payments and not to principal.

When I called they said sorry there was nothing they could do. If I wanted to make a payment of $465 they would apply it to principal. I said that is not the same because now my monthly payments are based on only $465 less of principal not $985, (what should have been the $465 I was just paying on and the $525 that should have been applied.) It may be just dollars to someone however.... it is dollars! Dollars the fat cat doesn't need but I sure do. Where is our government when it comes to these kind of issues? They are small but add up to millions... and maybe billions of dollars that we as consumers pay to banks and other institutions that continue to rip us off everyday. Santander Bank did not process my payment. When I visited the Santander website to make my first payment on their website, I noted they were going to access a $10.95 processing charge. I called them. I was told this was the policy for making each and every individual payment (on their website) and the only way to avoid that was to set-up an auto-pay through their website deduction. While hesitant, I elected to do that. The clerk with whom I was speaking helped guide me through the set-process.

On 8/19/14, I made my first payment which was due on 8/23/14 as I was also told the first payment had to be generated by me. All seemed fine. I received 2 separate e-mail acknowledgements of the payment being received and no other communication was received. On 8/30/14, I was reconciling my bank statement and noted a discrepancy in the exact amount of the payment to Santander Bank. Due to their short hours to speak with them + a Holiday weekend, I went to the website. It listed my 8/23/14 payment as being due and listed a double payment due on September 23. I reviewed my payment history. It listed my aforementioned payment + a $25.00 charge for a non-processed payment. I was NOT ABLE to access my account preferences or to make a payment.

I chatted with their foreign chat agent and it was like a rotating response, where my question was really not being answered. He said my bank account number was NOT listed on their website, then he said the number was incorrect and that I needed to make a payment. He said my access to verify this incorrect information was because my payment was late and that I would have to pay the $25.00 fee which was not a late charge, as it was an additional processing fee. By debating that I did not owe a fee, that I have receipt of payment acknowledgements was restarting the rotating response.

Finally a "supervisor" appeared on the chat saying I could take the payment to a Western Union store, pay the Western Union fee + a late fee (all on a Holiday). At this point, I will again attempt to contact Santander Bank by phone tomorrow. From reviewing other complaints on this website, it seems similar account handling is a common practice. Perhaps a class-action attorney needs to review this site.

My adventure has just begun with Santander. Since they bought my large motor home loan from GE Capital in the summer 2011, I have not had actual trouble with them until this year. True, they won't change the payment date even one day so that my military retirement is posted and I could pay them automatically. As it is, I have to rely on a very large check in the mail to them while being out on the road. I was uneasy but I accepted this. I accepted that they have, for nearly three years, sent the wrong payment address on their payment coupons. I chalked it up to inept office practices and kept a supply of white-out and their correct address on file.

I have all the paperwork from this loan and all the bank statements. I have never been late; they have received payment. Every one of their invoices to me, and this spring's report to TransUnion and Equifax, state this fact. However, Santander claims in their report to Experian that as of March 2014, I was 180 days late. Speaking with their credit reps was certainly unpleasant. I realize this job must be very stressful for them but no one needs to make the encounter adversarial, especially when it is Santander's error.

The last rep did say she would send a correction to the credit bureaus. And what was her correction? "Current but was 180 days OR MORE late. April 2014 was 120 days late." Stay tuned for my updates on this case. If this is how they treat someone who, by their own paperwork to me, was never late on a loan that as of Oct 2013 had netted GE Capital and Santander $78,000 in interest only, how must they treat those unfortunate people who simply fell on hard times?

Santander is retaliating against me for complaining about their poor service or for seeking to refinance a loan with another bank in order to get a lower interest rate. Today, I learned that my refinancing application for a loan with another bank is being delayed because Santander has falsely stated that I had made two late payments in January and February 2014. This is especially shocking since I had corrected this error with Santander in March of this year. It is also troubling that Santander has refused to answer that my account was satisfactory. Of course, Santander benefits each and every day that my mortgage application with another financial institution is delayed through the higher interest that it is receiving from me than it would receive on the open market.

My payment was due on my car on July 25, 2014. I had called this company to tell them that I had fallen on some bad times and that I couldn't make the payment in July; I stated that I would try to pay a little more in August. Despite this, I get phone calls daily. I received a call yesterday (Sunday) and I explained to the rep that my status hadn't changed and that I had only a few cents in the bank. The rep was very pushy and kept asking me to postdate a check immediately, which I didn't want to do. I was scared to do something like that considering all of the negative reviews this company has gotten. The rep got angry and hung up on me. I am just about ready to tell them to come and get the car. I'm in the process of filing Chapter 7; and, I certainly do not want to be bothered with them anymore.

Loan paid off more than 5 years ago. Never received a lien release. Can you believe it took me two weeks to finally speak to someone after repeated emails to get a phone number that worked. As it turns out, I have yet to speak to anyone at Santander because they hold consumers hostage with any activity related to title and liens by passing you off to a third party "MyTitleSupport(dot)com" - where a fee of $30 is required for a simple Lien release. After two weeks I finally was able to get what I needed. However I believe the activity practiced by Santander USA is somewhat unscrupulous as witnessed by the many news stories and awful reviews published on the web.

It is wrong to be held hostage to gain a Lien release that should have been mailed following the completion and pay-off of a loan. I will be contacting the Kansas State Attorney General's office to voice my concern and demand proper consumer protection against the practices of your "company". I find it hard to believe you are actually a publicly traded enterprise. Your apology for 'inconvenience' is empty and meaningless. It is clear that this is the manner in which your business chooses to operate - cannot understand how anyone could possibly work for such an organization. You should be ashamed. Buyer beware!!!! Dealing with Santander has been the ultimately WORST banking experience of my life. Even though I have paid every payment (6 years) on my car loan on time with 16% interest, I am treated like a ** child that deserves no help whatsoever. My loan has been paid off since November 2011 and I am still calling every few months trying to get my lien released so I can register my car in another state. I have been unable to drive this car for the last two years because I can’t register it. Now that I am down to one vehicle between two people, it's pretty important that we have two cars that we can drive. I have made a total of 11 calls over the last few years and each time I am told I would either receive a letter, they would fax the release or file it online to the DMV website. NOTHING has been done to this day.

I placed the last call with them 2 months ago and escalated to a supervisor’s supervisor. I had asked since it has taken over 2 years and has been such a headache for me that I was requesting that they file the release of lien online, request that the title be sent to the bank so they could mail it to me. If they request it to be mail to me then it would go to my old address. After a few reps saying it wasn't possible, I finally got to a person that said they can do it. It would take a few days to get the request sent, then possibly a few weeks to get the title to the bank (depending on the DMV service), then they would mail it back to me.

I called the DMV today and they advised that they STILL have not received a request. Asked if I had a letter or something to show it has been paid off. I have no proof of anything because this bank refuses to send me anything to verify. I guess my next avenue is to hire an attorney that can work this out for me since after 2 years I am still not able to get any help in this matter. I am at a loss here and have nothing else I can do but send reviews to everyone out there so no one else has to go through such a nightmare. This bank, as of right now, WILL NEVER get any of my business again, and I will do all I can do make sure none of my friends and family deal with this bank that provides such lousy customer service.

Yes when you miss months of payments any company will call and harass you - doesn't matter what is going on with your life. So stop complaining because I have NEVER had a problem with them. I always paid my bill on the internet and no problem. I think a lot of you complainers were late on payments and you think you can get away with the excuses you are giving... I have had my auto loan with Santander Consumer USA since February 2011. At first everything seemed fine and then I ran into hardship with some unexpected medical issues that took me by storm. I immediately contacted Santander to let them know that I was afraid I would not be able to make all of my payment on time due to this. The person the phone was always super nice and they helped me by getting deferred payment approvals for me in most cases allowing me to skip 2 months of payments. This was during 2012 and 2013 that I had to request such deferments to manage life's obstacles.

Back in February I went to look at purchasing a car for my business I am now trying to start. I was told that my credit was great except for the payment history with Santander. When I pulled my reports for all three credit agencies, I found over 13 reported late payments including (2) 60 day lates and (2) 90 day lates which were during two of the deferred payment periods. I called Santander only to be told that deferred payments still report as missed payments, which I don't see the reason for them if that is the case. I explained the situation and what I had been told when making the decisions, and they just told me that isn't what I should have been told by the other Santander rep (remember this wasn't one time or one person that had told me that it would be not reported negative).

I have tried to dispute this information with Experian, Equifax and Transunion and each time they just shuffle the late payments around to other months and resubmit to the agencies. Months that showed "OK" before now show 30, 60 and 90 day lates and the ones that were originally showing late show OK. I made copies of all these different reportings and including my own investigation chart of my month payments, deferments, communication log, etc and sent them with a certified letter to Santander Consumer USA. That has been over 30 days now and I have received no communication from them directly about the request for validation and their investigation regarding my account. They just keep sending shuffled information to the credit bureaus each time I dispute and the last time it made my score worse by them deciding to put (2) 30 day lates in the past few months which wasn't true again.

I have bank statements, printed payment receipts from Santander's website and I supplied them all with my letter still not doing anything to help my situation with them. They are very bad also about dating your payment 2 days after when you actually made it as well (and no, it wasn't on a weekend or holiday... so business day debate is out the door). I'm really not sure where I should go with this now. It is very sad to see the little man get abused by the corporate evils again. It wouldn't surprise me if it's because they aren't an American company and have their corporation structured so to skirt around certain laws to protect them from these types of violations. Perhaps someone has some intel as to an investigation into this matter?

IS SANTANDER RIPPING YOU OFF????? Have YOU paid your loan off and made payments on time? Has SANTANDER debited your checking or savings account without YOUR approval? Then pay attention!!! You need to file a claim with your state attorney general's office. I am betting that they receive numerous complaints about this company. My wife and I were financed through CITIFINANCIAL and our loan was sold off to SANTANDER (SCAMMERS) CONSUMER USA. This is when everything went sideways and backwards.

We made payments to them via check and within a few months they tried to debit our account for 2-3 payments that were already paid. We had to close our checking account. They did the same to our savings account too. We then just made payments to them for the last 34 payments via Western Union. I kept every payment receipt via WU and bank statement that show the illegal ACH attempts. We finished paying our loan off back in December but my wife made 3 extra payments before I told her to stop.

When talking to SCUSA, their people would state it is a simple interest loan and that we were late paying 59 months out of 72 payments. I had proof this was a lie. I told my wife that she needed to get an attorney but before she get one that she needed to contact the STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL's office. She took the time to sit down and explain to the SAG what we have gone through with SCUSA and their scare tactics and illegal wire fraud attempts. We received a letter from the WA State Attorney General's office just 7 days ago and this is what it said in short. SCUSA refuted that any of our statements were true but they were going to ZERO out our account and the MATTER WOULD BE CONSIDERED SETTLED!!! SO IN SHORT THEY STATED THEY DID NOTHING WRONG BUT THEY WE WILL CLOSE THE ACCOUNT!!! ONCE A SCAM ALWAYS A SCAM... JUST CAUGHT WITH THEIR PANTS DOWN!!!

They seem to have no problem finding me when they want to get paid. Needless to say I will be closing all of my accounts asap. I would not recommend this bank. Annoyed that I had to give it one star. So my dad buys a 2004 Cadillac in 2008 with Citibank for the low price of $17,000 plus tax we'll round it off to about $20,000. Santander purchased the loan from Citibank about 2 years later. Payments were made on time and my dad got sick about 6 months after he purchased the car. I then took over the payments. I went through some rough times myself and had a total of 4 payments pushed to the back of the loan. My dad was not informed of any increased interest rates.

We are now in July of 2014. The original maturity date was suppose to be in March of 2014, but with the 4 payments it pushed it back to July 2014. That is not a problem except the balance is now close to $6,000. They sent my dad a letter in the mail demanding payment in full of $6,000...what? really? but how is that? and where are we supposed to find $6,0000? If we did have it why should I give it to you when I have already paid over $36,000 plus for a car that is now only valued at about $4,000 on a good day. I am currently trying to get my car from the body shop and Santander will not pay the body shop. The insurance company made the check out to my husband and Santander they said it was the law. We sent in the unsigned check because that is what Santander said we had to do and they stated we would receive the check back endorsed within two days if we overnighted it. Now it's day 16 and the car has been finished for over a week and Santander refuses to send the body shop a check. Now I've no car and I've paid for two years and my payments are current and storage fees are now being occurred I had to return the rental car and that was our only transportation.

We have now lost wages and I'm soon to be unemployed. The insurance made supplemental payments to the body shop and everything has been paid except the check Santander cashed without our permission the day after it was received. I am beyond stressed out, I'm stranded and we will be falling behind on our bills as well as my credit will now suffer. We are don't know what to do and you can't talk to the same person and they do nothing they say.

I would think this is fraud and considering my car has been in the shop they would have to pay the amount insurance paid. They also tell the body shop their w-9 certification paper isn't good enough with their ein they say that is the hold up and want their tax return and social with personal information which the body shop has declined since they repaired the car and are not applying for a loan they say it's for $1099 purpose yet it is sufficient for all other insurance companies and lien holders. The body shop showed me all of their documents they faxed and they did send what is required for a sole proprietor and as that they use an ein not a social. Not sure what the repairman's yearly income has to do with anything in the first place.

The insurance company is no help and I'm stuck and not sure where to turn. This is ruining my life. I also after 2 yrs owe as much as I financed to begin with clearly not sure how that works either and no one will explain anything and they get mad, rude and hang up on us when they can't provide sufficient information and refuse to let you speak to a supervisor. So between the car and insurance I'm pay $833 per month and can't get possession of our vehicle. Worst experience I could ever had a nightmare about and I'm currently living it. Beware. Buy here pay here dealers are saints compared to the thieves.

What a mess! Been paying on our 2008 GMC since before 2008 to HSBC, then Santander. We were never late until earlier this year. We were supposed to have been done paying but they said we owed almost 4 grand more (have to look into why we still owed so much). We refinanced with another company beginning of May (which Santander knew). The refinance company sent two checks, one large one and our personal small check along with the Title Request that had our VIN/names/ company, etc. I got calls saying Santander requesting payment and never got the checks.

The Refi company called to find out where Santander had the check and no one knew. They were never cashed. We sent faxed copy of the payoff check to Santander on June 4/5th and were also told that they were going to research the checks with ASD (Accounting Serving Department) would get back to us 5 to 10 days and they never contacted us. Still nothing. No check and no one knew where they would be and they could have been shredded! Seriously.

The Refinance company didn't want TWO 'large' checks out there. The Refinance company put a stop payment on the check. I was told by a Santander employee about 4 weeks ago (or less) to send the next payment to the physical address on Mockingbird Land. Our car was not noted to be repossessed at that point. Santander had talked to the Refinance Company and knew they were reissuing the check. The company mailed out the replacement check, 2nd day mail at 8:45 am on Tuesday. At 12 pm the repo company came to my work and repossessed my car. Keep in mind, I have been making my payments to the new company and have had my insurance changed to the new company.

After spending the rest of my day talking to **, manager, and her trying to research where the original checks went... she said she was going to send something to accounting to see where they could be (shredded was mentioned… and just don't know and maybe we just did not get the checks) . She also said it would only be 150 to get my car back. Wednesday I was told my car was sent off for auction by someone… **? I was immediately sent to the Office of the President and ** said that it had not gone to auction and she put a hold on the car so it would not go to auction (it was still local). Keep in mind they knew the refinance company sent the check 2nd day to the Mockingbird (physical location). Thursday I called the Office of the President at 2 pm and they said they don't have the check. Called the refi company, tracked the package and it was delivered at 11:45 am that day. I called back and said it was delivered and asked for a call back from **… nothing. Never got a call back from **. Called Friday... no check.

I am so glad we tracked this one because they had NO knowledge that they even had the check. Someone signed for it with their company. I believe I talked to Mrs. ** and a **. No one returned my call to tell me where the check was and I knew someone from their company signed for it - find out who it was. Why don't they have this tracked considering I have been on the phone with them since Tuesday. I called Saturday to check if it was posted...and the Office of the President was closed so I called Monday.

Office of the President said the payment was received/posted on Sunday. The O.P. sent me to redemption and I had to pay almost $400 and send them a letter that we (the refi company and ourselves) would not put stop payment on the checks! Incredible, they could have told me the week prior. Tuesday paid the 400 and was given the number to call to get my car back and it was mentioned that it was still on location. Call the number and the people managing the repo were not told to hold (per conversation with **on Wednesday) the car and the car was shipped to Boise! On Sunday!

This is a car that we have paid almost $50,000 for (not including what we have put into it)! There was never mention of repossession by anyone that we talked to and I had asked weeks prior. We did get Notice of Intent to Repossess on Monday (the day after) they shipped our car off they had signed for the package on Thursday with the checks including the Title Request. So last Tuesday, **at the Office of the President sent an email to return the car. Called the company who managed the transport and they said the car should be here Wednesday or Thursday. We were out of town those day. Today (Monday July 7th) I call and our car has still not been returned.

I should have just paid it off but we were trying to balance thing out. I absolutely could have wired the money to them if I knew they were going to repossess the car. The emotional distress, the embarrassment, the effects on my family, the amount of money it has cost me! I asked about removing the repossession from my report and they won't. It had not been reported at the time this whole thing went down. This is going to ruin my chances on buying another home for a long, long time. Late payments you can recover from, but a repossession is another.

Summary: When called over a month ago about are first pay off checks Santander did not know where they were said they could have been shredded, don't know or they just never got them. Told $150 to get car from repossession company. Were not aware they had the checks in their possession… yet someone signed for the package. Had checks in possession, car was local. The checks were posted on Sunday, three days after receipt of checks. Three days after checks were signed for they shipped our car to another state. Told Monday that our bill was almost $400 not $150 (no mention to us that car was shipped). Paid Fee Tuesday, July 1st and was 'confirmed' (by the Redemption Department) the car was not shipped to Auction.

Called Repossession Company with code and they said car was shipped on Sunday (1-1-14). **at Office of the President emailed the Repossession to return car (1-1-14). Told car would be here Wednesday, Thursday? 11 Days after they had the checks in their possession we still do not have our car. My job requires that I have a car and I have spent hundreds on rentals and of course Santander is not going to make any accommodations for a rental.

In case you have followed this rant, the insurance is still at full coverage because you cannot remove them from the title or get a title release, due to all the unbelievable things these MONSTERS GET AWAY WITH. Car was repo on 06/18/14. Was behind 3 payments. Made a payment of $400.00 to Santander 1 hour later. My monthly payment is $299.00.This was at 8 p.m. I was then told I needed to make 1 more payment of $365.00 which I told them will be made tomorrow. So the next day, I went online to check my online account and they had disabled it. I had not made the second payment yet as it was early in the morning. I called them to ask them why my account was disabled, and they told me it was because my car was repo the night before. I live in Ohio and am kind of worried after reading the horror stories of other people who have dealt with them. I also found out the repo company is also an auto auction company... I'm worried that if I make that $365.00 payment I still might not get my car back. Any advice?

We got a car through Gmac financial. They sold our loan and many to Santander after bankruptcy. We didn't get a letter or anything, just a monthly schedule that stated nothing had changed on our account, keep sending the same amount on the same date but to a different address as Gmac no longer held our account. We went for 3 yrs with no problems, even got our due date changed and a couple late payments moved to the end of our loan, again with no problem - extremely nice people from Santander..

Our maturity date was May 24, 2014. We thought our loan was almost paid in full and this week we get a letter stating we owe $9,139.93 for a loan we got in 2008 for $27,000 and we still owe this $9,139.93 in full.. My husband called and they told us our options were to pay in full, keep making our monthly payments until we reach the payoff but additional interest COULD BE APPLIED, meaning we will keep adding to your account, or they offered refinance and came down to $7000, as we just spent $3000 for a new transmission for the car my husband chose to refinance for another 2 yrs.. Our payments did come down but this is robbery and this company needs to be shut down....The people are now extremely rude on the phone and gives you the run around when you ask even simple questions... This now puts us paying 8 yrs for a 6 yr loan...

Santander Consumer USA aka Drive Financial was in a bankruptcy I filed in 5/2007. The account was not showing on my credit report for Equifax, but after 7 years they decided to add them to my credit report as a new charge off account for the same amount included in the bankruptcy on 5/31/2014. The first date of delinquency was before 5/2007, but they are now stating the first date of delinquency was as of 8/2008. I have disputed it with credit bureaus, and the other CRA-- Transunion and Experian. Faxed over bankruptcy papers, etc. They haven't responded yet. I also sent in a complaint with the consumerfinance.gov, known as CFPB to get assistance. That negative account to my credit report dropped my score about 80 points. Is this legal? I thought there was a statute of limitations. I want to file charges.

I went to purchase a car from a Nissan dealer. I financed the loan with one bank and my loan was bought by Santander Consumer USA. After taking over my loan they placed their name on my credit report and said I owed them for a old loan from 2006 before the recession. I never had contact with this company before May 2014 of this year. Also I can't even find any information about this company prior to 2009. I don't believe this company was even operating in the United States in 2006, so how can they try to sue me for money I don't even owe them?

I've had an equity line application since mid-winter. As usual, they kept asking for more and more documents when I supp. They make one feel NOT like a valued customer whom they make money from and who has with a credit rating over 800 and no debt beyond a mortgage but like a CRIMINAL trying to steal their money. I spoke to a supervisor, who just gave me a standard line, not one element of personal concern or courtesy. I would rather SCRUB FLOORS to get the bit of money I need than ever give this company one penny. STAY AWAY--there are a lot of other banks out there!!

I have been ripped off. My loan was paid off in Jan this year. How the h. do I still owe 80,000 Dollars? My truck was picked up. I was told when I filed bankruptcy in which I never put the truck on my bankruptcy and continued to pay for it. They at Santander automatically put it in bankruptcy status. No one never ever told me this. They never called, they never sent me any letter, nothing. They took my truck, I paid for the truck 3 yrs after I filed bankruptcy. Omg, money given away, plus they took my vehicle. 23000 dollars gone. Be warned.

After many calls, plus emails, I finally managed to get through to someone in the President's office to explain what had happened. They said they were sorry about the rigamarole I went through to get a real person, and I finally did get the release of lien on the vehicle. Still, there needs to be a way to get a live person and not keep getting cut off when you need to talk to someone. There is no option on there complicated phone system for "get assistance on a prior loan!" Maybe they need to consider that.

    Original Review: June 9, 2014

I paid my vehicle loan off in August of last year. To date, I have not received the title to the vehicle or the release of lien. I am selling this vehicle to a local dealer and need these to complete the sale. I spent 45 minutes today trying to get through to a real person but the system disconnected me every time because it no longer has my information. Then I found a number at Get a Human, finally got someone, was given a number for the titles department and was told I would get a person and not prompts. Well, that was just plain a lie. I got asked 5 times to press 1 for English and 2 for Spanish, finally got an option for pay-off or refi and selected pay-off and they once again wanted my info...and of course when I entered it, they disconnected me.

If I do not get someone on the phone by tomorrow at 1 PM EST I will contact an attorney because Santander's horrible customer service is probably going to cost me. They should be mortified, but not being a US company, I think they feel they are above treating people with any respect. I submitted a complaint via email and doubt they will respond and do anything. I also have to add that after I paid my loan off - EARLY - they harassed me for 12 weeks, calling multiple times a day because my account was delinquent by $0.00! I spoke with a live chat person 3 times yet they continued to do this and showed my account as delinquent. This company needs to be kicked out of the US. They make CountryWide look decent!

I paid my car completely, even 4 extra payments. The contract I signed was for $18.00 less than they billed me EVERY month from day one. When the time came to receive the title Santander kept billing me and so I paid a few more than in February. They told me I had to pay $548.00 to receive the title. I paid $548 more (Have the paid check). I have never received the title and they have turned me over to collections. My credit shows a Charge Off!!!

We purchased a car in 2009 with a loan from Santander. Due to some unfortunate events, we had to file bankruptcy in 2010. This loan was included. For the amount of $19,853.00. My bankruptcy is over now. I received a letter from Santander today saying my balance due is $32,000.00. Not quite! The car was only $20,000 to begin with and my bankruptcy trustee has paid them monthly. They are a big bunch of rip-off artists. I'm not paying these morons twice for the same car.

We purchased a Chevy one year ago and paid $13000 for it. Make $440.00 monthly payments. Wanted to trade it in for a newer car and even though we made payments our pay off was 20,344 dollars. In actuality we are being charged over 7,000 dollars in interest even though we will not own the car. The blue book on the car is 13.600 dollars and our pay off should be around the blue book. How in the "H" do they get away with this. They're international crooks!
