I just recently learned that my maturity date for our car has been changed by Santander without our knowledge. It went from 5/19/17 to 2/17/18. Who does that when my signed contract is indicating last payment of 5/19/17? I also noticed that a lot of my monthly payments they have received have not been deducted from the balance I owe. I literally just printed my payment history from their own website under my account and the balance does not change and it is showing I still owe them $11,000? They will be hearing from my lawyer really soon. This company should be shut down!!!

Some Mercedes 7 gear auto transmissions apparently broke down around 70,000. Mine did, but Mercedes dug their heels in and would fix it without the proper codes. I made a short film about the problem showing the problem, dropped off the car and footage file. It still took forever. What they got back, was a vastly improved car, and they wanted twice what it was worth. Will avoid them as possible in the future.

I purchased a 2011 Chevy Cruz sticker value $14,000. I've paid on this vehicle for 2 years and my principal value only decreased $200. I've been paying more than my monthly payments. I had a death in my family which set me back a month. My monthly payments are 391 and I made a payment of 420 which is what I told I owed. The next month comes and I pay my regular 391. I receive my statement that showed I owe 100+ in fees??? HOW? I paid the fee only to see the fees on the next month's statement. REMEMBER THAT I'VE PAID 420 EVERY MONTH WHICH IS EXTRA, WHERE IS MY MONTH GOING?
I call customer service and ask them why is this? The rep advised that a customer service rep has to submit a request for the payment to be submitted towards my principal and late fees. The next month I get my statement and the same thing is shown. SO... I call AGAIN and the representative advises of the same thing! SO WHAT WAS DONE THE FIRST TIME? Then I asked for them to mail me a statement of all my payments and what it was applied to. The rep advised that she can only send it to my email. I still have not received. Then I call again because I received my March statement only to find out basically all my payments that were being made are going to interest. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY AT ALL. THEY ARE THE WORST!

I got a 2012 Nissan Versa at Foothill Ford in North Carolina. Financed it with Santander in 2013. I was late with a payment. They charged me an interest rate of $5.70 a day. I am paying twenty eight thousand dollars for a vehicle that was worth twelve thousand new. Every time I talk to Santander on the phone they tell me I'm still making interest payments. This company is a rip off.

My car was paid off as of February 19, 2017. My car payments came straight out of my account on the 30th of every month. Mind you I paid it off in February. So they still take a payment for March. I call to get my money refunded. Last week they said they didn't show the payment in their account. So I call my bank and the bank calls them on 3 way. All of a sudden my payment is showing up in their system. No they're telling me it's going take 30-45 days for the money to be returned to my acct. I will definitely spread the word about this horrible banking. And never will deal with them again.

I have tried to reason with these people - but obviously THEY DO NOT CARE. So I have a solution - let's all get together who have been harmed and file a class action suit. There is strength in numbers. Everyone can contact me and I will lead the way!!!

This company never ceases to amaze me. I paid off my car loan. I mailed the check 1/23. As of 2/24, the check had still not been cashed. I placed a stop payment on the check on the advice of the customer service rep who told me they did not have it. I was trying to close on a loan. We settled it at closing and the closing atty sent them a check on my behalf. Of course, they cashed my check and the check the atty sent. Thank God I placed the stop payment. Then they call me when my check was stopped asking how I was going to take care of it.
After it was all said and done, they owed me $405. I just got a freaking Visa Prepaid card in the mail for the amount. To say I am beyond pissed off right now is an understatement. And, they still show I owe $88 on my credit report. And they say they mailed my title to the attorney's office, who never received. I will never, ever do business with them again. If anyone tries to offer me a loan through them I will politely tell them to stick it up their butt.

I sent a letter to the company in December 2016 asking that they explain what the fees are that they charged me for the month. I received no response. I paid half of my monthly payment and sent a letter with the payment asking if I could split my monthly payments in half. I received no response, however, they cashed my check. A few days later, they repossessed my car.
I called and informed them that I had sent in a letter with my payment... the customer service rep said where the payments get mailed, has nothing to do with them so they won't get the correspondences attached to payments. Rep also said my payments for December and January were returned. I was not aware of this, nor did they contact me about this. I then sent in a letter asking them to reconsider returning my car. Still no response. I've now contacted them through mail 3 times and have not received a response. I was trying to make good on my loan and that's why I sent in a letter with my payment requesting that the monthly payment be split in two. They do not care about their customers! I filed a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Hopefully they can get answers from Santander.

I used to talk good about them for almost three years in a row... until a Spanish speaking department wrote on their notes that I didn't want any mail or correspondence sent home... not true. Also someone said that I didn't want anyone calling me... not true again. Apparently some of these Spanish speaking persons months back used to make a lot of mistakes when they used to talk to me. Like they used to say different amounts owed... then later they came back to normal position saying the actual amount owed. Some females from used to say things that weren't even related to business... No more talking good about anybody... What they are is what they are.

When I want to make an additional payment against the principal is has always been a nightmare. I call Santander Consumer USA and tell I want to do an additional payment against the principal. Santander accepts the transaction, asks to stop the auto-pay, confirms that payment is set against the principal, and tells this will take about 3 business days to be updated in the system. After that you can set up again the auto-pay. So far so good. Three business days after and nothing has been done and the nightmare begins. It just delays your next payment but it is not set against the principal. I call again and then another person says they will ask to put against the principal. In the meantime I cannot put it back on auto-pay as my next payment due date has not been updated correctly.
This happened to me almost every time I did an additional payment, which means Santander people and/or systems are not trained or ready to perform this task efficiently. I have to enter the website every three business days to see if what they tell you has actually happened, which most the times has not been done properly, and you have to re-start the process all over again. Call again, explain the issue to another assistant, and again wait for three business days. Even when you escalate to a coordinator, s/he tells will be personally followed up and they will call you in a certain date to confirm the transaction, but they never do. They simply ignore you (and your money!).
In short, I will definitely never do business with Santander Consumer USA again. Very unprofessional and immature, and not customer oriented. And, by the way, since the value does not go against the principal you end up paying more interests for those days that system was not updated due to their mistakes and since you have not set up as auto-pay you have to pay the monthly installment by phone, and also ending up paying their service fee of US$10.95 for the phone payment. If you do not pay and wait for their system to be updated, it can appear as "past due" for that month, even though you can't do anything about solving their internal issue. So, if you have a choice follow my advice: choose another company to do business with.

In March 15th of 2015 I purchased an 2007 Jeep for $15,000. I paid $3,000 down and after 2 years of payments they repossessed my vehicle. They said I was 110 days overdue on my payment and that when I complained with the Better Business Bureau that I was now due after repossession 140 days past due never was 110 days past due. I may have missed a month because my hot water heater went out and other payments. I am disabled, a police officer and I'm not going to let this go. This company has to be stopped. There is no way that anybody can pay off a vehicle with this company. They are loan sharks.

So, long story short, they serviced me with an illegal vehicle loan. They "claim" they tried to get hold of me to make payments on the car - they even went as far to say they had some letter certified and mailed. Guess what? Never happened. They forged my signature on paperwork just to come after me. Repo companies started calling constantly and harassing me, my family, friends, and neighbors. Absolutely despicable. I was beyond pissed and I knew I was in for a fight, so I retained an attorney and with my mom's advice (she knows a lot about consumer protection laws) I dug my feet in and fought back. It was very personal with them. They were trying to ruin my credit (which they did for a short period of time) and ruin my life. I wasn't laying down for these scumbags.
My case went to court (state and federal). These guys couldn't even produce any relevant paperwork to their claim that I owed them money. They tried stall tactics in court and I even received more threats from numerous fly by night collection companies. The judges saw right through all their b.s. After some back and forth, I ended up winning my case and keeping my car. I felt so good and vindicated because they're a multi-billion dollar bank with a team of lawyers and they got beat by some punk kid and his mom.
One of the stipulations in the paperwork when the case was closed was that I was to never try to get another loan serviced with Santander for as long as I live and in return they had to delete all of the negatives on my credit reports, they could not make any future marks on my credit reports and could never try contacting me ever again. This case has been settled for about 5 years now. Guess what? I just went to look over my credit reports, which I do religiously now and wouldn't you know that Santander Consumer USA has an inquiry on one of my reports! Man oh man. It's going to feel good to sue these ** and take some of their money for a change.
My advice to everyone who has dealt with these dirtbags is to not give up! Get a decent lawyer who knows their consumer protection laws, dig your heels in. Don't let them ruin your life! These billion dollar companies can seem and be very intimidating and I promise you that they are expecting you to fold and cower to their demands. They're not used to good, honest people putting up a fight and taking it to the trenches. If enough of us stand up and start putting some chinks in their armor, I promise you they will fall. Just stay the course and be patient. It's one of the best things I ever did. Good luck to you all and God Bless.
P.s. - If you're ever contacted via telephone by the "bank," a repossession company, or someone else claiming they are a collections agency make sure you get some type of recording of the conversation you have with them, save voicemails, do whatever you can to prove that you are being harassed. It becomes big in court and no judge or jury is going to put up with it. On top of that, it's illegal and if you're aggressive enough you will receive some money for your troubles. I say this because not everyone knows the law(s) and, again, these huge corporations are banking on you being ignorant. Hope this helps some of you.

I absolutely hate working with this company. I called them and they told me that I could set up weekly payments of $172.91. Mind you my monthly payment is $272.91. They claim that I'm past due and owe them 1k. I called and set up payments with them over the phone. They went to take it out and it got returned, I had the funds in my account so not sure why. Then the other day, I ran around to make sure there was more than enough money in my account to cover the payment.
They called and left me a voicemail saying that they couldn't take the funds from my account because they weren't there and to call them back. I called them back & told them that there was ample amount of money in there to cover the payment and the lady told me that I needed to use a different payment method. I told her "No, there is enough money in the account to make the payment." The customer service representative then hung up the phone on me before I could finish speaking. This is the first time that I've had to make payments for a car & I absolutely will not recommend them to anyone I know!

I purchased a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta SE in February 2015, sticker price was $17,995. After paying my first payment, I realized the payoff balance was $27,995. WOAH, first red flag. After paying on my car for about 6 months, THE BALANCE STILL NEVER WENT DOWN, that's the second red flag. My family had some personal issues come up and came short of money. I called Santander to talk this matter over with them and the rep told me I could hold off on paying for 2 months, that she would waive the fee, thought it sounded weird, but I agreed. WORST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE!
After those 2 months passed and we had the funds to pay the note, we did. Mind you, I paid it on a Friday, as a quick bill pay through my account. The next day, Saturday, someone came to my house at 3 in the morning and REPOSSESSED my car. I called the company first thing when they opened on Sunday. THEY HAD NO RECORD THAT SOMEONE CAME GET MY CAR! I was furious!! Went without a vehicle for a month! Now they are sending me a letter saying my account can be settled & paid in full if I pay $2,800. I wanted to open a checking account online with Santander Bank. As a part of the verification application asks to answer personalized questions about one's recent financial or personal activity. There is nothing unusual about this - every online bank has this process of identity verification. What was unusual is that every question presented to me was not about any of my activity, i.e. all choices were a total miss. Having failed in that, bank asked me to upload pics of my identification. I uploaded US Passport and my state driver license. In a couple of days I received a notice of a denied application based on inability of validating my identity. With a Santander Bank, I wasted my time, put a blemish on my credit report, and gained nothing. Bad business!!!

This is the most horrible company ever! I bought a car last year in August. My payments were $241. I started paying on it in September because that was the first month I was told to start paying. 7 months go by of me paying my car payment and one night they come and take my car. Because I owed them $1,495!! I had been paying on the car for those 6-7 months! Turns out they only received one payment from me. When I called and asked why my account said past due they said the account hadn't updated itself so I made a payment over the phone and they took that money out of my account. Every other time I paid my car payment I paid online and it was confirmed I paid. But when I go on my account nothing is updated and I'm still behind all those months! This is the worst company. They rob you for all your money. I bought a car. Sticker price was 10,000 not realizing the contract I signed would put me in debt for the rest of my life. I have paid my car the last 6 yrs with a maturity date of Dec. 2017 to find out I have so far paid 16,000 to interest, 4,500 to my principal. My 4,500 down payment went straight in Santander pocket. Nothing went to the principal of my car and they're telling me to date I still owe them 8,000. This is insane. How have I paid 25,000 for a 2005 Nissan Altima and still owe 8,000 when sticker price was 10,000.
This company takes advantage of people. This should be illegal. Now the cars so old I can't get refinanced. I can't give car. Bills will destroy my credit. Can't trade in because I'll be upside down on another car. Only option to get out of this nightmare is to outright pay the 8,000 in full and chalk it up as a learning experience and never make the same mistake again... ** Santander. They are a rip-off. I bought a Dodge Caliber From Ohio October 2015. My loan is through Santander Consumer. I have never in my life had bad luck this bad. First 30 days, car has issues THEN loud noises. Couldn't take it back, car dealership refused to fix it. After that within a year I went to apply for the renewal for registration. Come to find out they never got the title from Ohio to Texas to switch to PA. Oh was I livid at this point. I'm a mother with two children. I drove this car everywhere, the car was NOWHERE in any system at any DMV. I did all the steps I had to do to make sure the car was legal. NOPE. The plate was still registered to my old car. I never received my taxes from the dealership in Ohio. I had no choice to quit my job and stop payments.
Over 80 calls to the DMV to this trashy company and every single person was rude. No matter how many times I tried to explain it was their fault and I refused to give them payments for a car I can't drive let alone I could have been arrested for a stolen car/plate! They have no feelings other than money hungry. I have given them an option, was told no it's not enough. Now I'm being harassed every day because they charged off the account this year. Funny how the car should've been repossessed a long time ago yet they know they are screwing me and doing it illegally so they can't come get the car. I won't give in after all the heartache these people have done to my family. My credit was hit hard because of them. My advice - tell everyone to NEVER to go THEM!

I purchased a car and was in dire need of a car. I went to reputable dealer where I purchased a car. Little did I know that the loan that I received was from Santander. I have had this car since August of 2013 and it seems as though I have never paid the balance of the note down. Because the cars age and reliability it is not worth the money that I am paying... Bought it for 15k and have a little of 13k plus to pay for it. Because I was in a job that did not pay me as well, and with student loans I would call and ask if I could have an extension to get the money into them. Unaware that they moved back the day and pushed more interest and fees on the loan.
I have paid more on my account and it has yet to bring my balance down. They have even taken my car away, and I was told if I paid a certain amount I would have it back and it would not affect my credit nor would it go on my report. All were untruths. This is very frustrating and I had no idea that this bank was as ruthless and deceiving as they could be. Almost preying on those that are trying to rebuild from past mistakes. Now I am trying to get a much larger car, and my circumstances have gotten better with my finances, it is quite difficult to get away from the Santander nightmare! These people are vampires, their customer service in making request of them is well below mentioning. The catch was that I would be charged a convenience fee for the 3 payments I would have to be making. Two payments for $2000 each and one payment for $44. I made the first payment and they were nice enough to waive the $10 fee. I called to make the second payment and I am told they can only waive the fee once during the life of the loan.
I asked for a supervisor and when she got on the phone, she repeated what the representative had told me and was not willing to help at all and was not even nice about it. Here I am looking to give over $4000 to your bank and you cannot waive the $30 fee? This is, of course, principle. Why am I paying a convenience fee, when it is not so convenient to have to call back on 3 separate occasions? Not to mention they were clearly reading from a script and very robotic. They kept me so busy in this car buying process I did not have time to call anyone, and I tried to leave at one point, but they had taken my car keys. I have tried to return the car, and I was told by the salesman, the finance guy, and Santander Consumer that I could not do this, even though I had only drove home with this car.
After researching Santander Consumer, they manipulate your credit store to allow the loan to process, knowing that you are going to default on the loan. All the while telling me that they are doing this to honor my veteran status, and getting me the deal I deserve. I begin my internship at the end of March, and now I will not have any car to accomplish this task to graduate. Please pray for me and my service dog, Lola for a answer to this situation!

I had reported my bank card lost and stolen on Friday the 13th. The lady I spoke to was great help. I leave my card in the ATM Friday after making a deposit. Of course I do that on a holiday weekend. My 6 year old son is sick with the flu so yesterday used a check to buy medicine after hospital trip. Today when I go to use my check again at stop and shop it was denied. I called the number and faced the reference number. They said was denied because I have no history of using checks, which was good in a way. Figure I will press 1 talk to customer service. First off couldn't understand a word she was saying. I updated my info and thought she was telling because insufficient funds, finally after saying 3 times "can't be. I have plenty of money" I heard her say history.
OK I said I'm still at the market and need to purchase things I need for my son plus was getting $50.00 out for gas purchase. She then relax me "your information is updated. Should I go in and try again but it might still get rejected. Is there anything else I can assist you with." I said "you're telling me I can try it but possibly might get denied so go through and talked a chance of leaving my groceries again and being embarrassed." Only response was "yes. Now is there anything else I can help you with." I was so upset now going home to tell my son couldn't get ice pops and some Pedialyte. I'm so upset that she was so rude. Couldn't understand her on top of this. Santander is the worst for emergency situations and they hire people who don't speak good English and good customer service skills. I really want to switch banks because of this. TD Bank was great when it came to being in situations.

First of all, I did not know Chrysler Capital treats its military veterans like crap. I bought a 2010 Chevy Malibu at $22000.00 because a friend said it was worth it. I was making all my regular payments until I had a 2 1/2 ton truck roll over my legs and I could not perform my job duties. I fell on hard times and applied for bankruptcy. Worse thing I ever did. For 6 months I was on /off from work so bankruptcy had to end. As soon as the bankruptcy ended they repo the car because they wanted me to pay almost $3000.in two weeks.
Never in my lifetime had I ever had to tell my baby daughter that they wanted me to pay for her clothes that was left in the car. My daughter has to go to school with some old clothes and shoes because I didn't have any money to pay for it. I'm a 25 year military veteran with combat and it's a disgrace to say that our money bail them out when the economy was bad and they treat us like that. I should have stayed with Ford. I learned my lesson and when I get back up on my feet, in my family we will never have a Chrysler vehicle parked in the garage or or on the yard.

I was placed in a position where I HAD to buy a pickup in August '14. I drove Ford, Chevy, GMC, and settled on the Ram because it was a LOT more truck for less money (still driving my '14 and still LOVING it). My credit was less than stellar (that's another story), but Chrysler Capital approved the loan. Since getting the loan, I've hit some "bumps in the road" financially. I have kept them informed of my (seemingly) frequently changing situation as it changes. I have experienced EVERY TIME that they have listened intently, understood, and have gone well above and beyond to assist me in every way possible. They have kept their word on EVERY occasion and have been an absolute JOY to deal with.
I can't even take off 1 star because of the silly and annoying fees they charge for making payments online etc. BECAUSE they've been so good to me. I resolved that issue by having my bank send them a paper check - end of silly fees. I have NEVER been on hold for more than a minute or two and the people with whom I've spoken have been empowered to HELP me. I have treated them like close friends when I've proactively spoken with them and they, in turn, have treated me in the same manner.
People need to understand that, like EVERY financial institution, they simply want their money under the terms of the agreement (finance contract) you signed when they loaned you money. They DON'T want their collateral except as a last resort - they just want the money back they invested in you - simple. I have read very negative reviews here and can't help thinking the review writers made a major contribution to their negative experience with this company. These negative reviews are 180 degrees from my experience. I would actually seek out Chrysler Capital to finance any new vehicle I buy in the future BECAUSE they have been THAT good to me - better than ANY other finance company with which I've ever dealt INCLUDING local credit unions. No, I DON'T have any connection to Chrysler Capital other than my loan with them. I'm a retired veteran living on a fixed income in rural Oregon.

So I went into my branch and was told that was because the statement was for a time period outside of the time frame that I paid down the HELOC. Well, Santander then took out the payment. I called and was told that the payment was sitting in the overpayment bin and they would transfer it back in 1 to 3 business days. They stole my money. Now they get to use it for the time period that they stole it. I hope to speak to a regional manager tomorrow. Chrysler Capital is the absolute worst place you can get an auto loan. There is no grace period with them at all. So say your payment is due Monday but you don't get paid until the following Thursday you will get charged $10 a day until it's paid. Also they will harass you every day you're late no matter how many times you explain why you haven't paid yet. They will not work with you. They will not change your due date. IF YOU'RE GOING TO GET A LOAN GO THROUGH A REPUTABLE BANK OR CREDIT UNION. As soon as I was told that Progressive did in fact total it out, I called them and told them every 4-5 days I called my insurance co for updates and soon as I hung up with them, I called Santander to keep them informed.
I have emailed them every copy of correspondence from insurance companies as I received them. I did pay a payment of $200 in the interim because they said they'd place a late on my credit if I didn't. Today, I get a nasty letter from legal saying they are going to enforce the right to cure and that I'm in default, will also go after me for their attorney fees, even though they have received every penny from both insurance companies, paying the pay off in FULL and owe me the refund of the $200 overage from my 11/20 payment. Steer clear! They stated that IF I am due the $200 after all payments from ins co's, it will take 45 days, if they determine it is an overage. My interest for the 60 month loan was $8000 which made my total $17000. Within the 29 months I've only been late 5 times due to the loss of my job. This company would call on a daily basis over and over no matter how many people I talk to and explained my situation they still continued the call. A week ago my car got totaled and I called them to find out how much my payoff would be for my insurance company.
Well clearly they are trying to screw me over they are saying my payoff is over $9000 which is more than my car even cost and I had already paid them over $8700. I ask why do I owe so much. The rep told me "Well you have late fees and you have accrued interest on this loan." I said "But my interest was only $8000 for the full term of the loan. 60 months and my insurance company is going to pay the value of my car which is almost $5000." Santander then said "Well when is your insurance paying us and if it doesn't cover your payoff when are you making a payment?" I said "Really my car is totaled, my wife nor I can get to work and you are worried about when I'm gonna make a payment."
I have had enough with the rude man so I hung up. I'm not sure what to do. This is gonna ruin my credit after my insurance pays them. I will still owe a balance of over $4000 and they refused to only take their interest for the 29 months they want the full term amount plus sum. Me and my husband purchasable 2008 Dodge Charger in September of 2008. The original loan was with Chrysler Corp. Santander eventually took over the loan. In January of this year (2016), my husband stopped making payments on the car. He did not let me know this until March when we received a letter from Santander. I immediately got on the phone and called Santander what I needed to do. Over the next few days I talked to several of Santander's representatives. Each time I got a different response on what I needed to do. I was finally told they would send me paper to do a readjustment. I was told to send my payment via MoneyGram which cost me 10 to 15 dollars every month (the fee had gone up from when I started making my payments from April to November of 2016).
The problem with this company is they have representatives that does not speak English, therefore it is hard to understand them. When I talked to anyone of "their" representatives about the readjustment, I was told to pay a certain amount on a specific day and to wire the payment. I was told to do this from April until November. None of "their" representatives ever told me that I would have a balance of late fees (supposedly during the life of the loan). I have tried talking to several of "their" management about this situation. That I was never told that my car would not be paid off in November like I was led to believe.
I want to know how this company can do business like this. This has to be the most dishonest company I have ever dealt with. I am not a prejudiced person, but when I am doing business (especially when it concerns my money), I want a person that can speak English (as in my case) that I understand them and they understand me.

I have paid my car loan on time for over four years. With the exception of TWO payments, which I made deferments for with Santander. A deferment is not a late payment by very definition of the word. So fast forward, Santander waited about three years after the deferments were made to update my credit report with 60+ days late TWICE. This means the house my family and I were going to purchase is a no go due to how awful it affected my credit score. The first guy I spoke to said they won't remove it from my credit report. The second guy gave me completely opposite information, including a department that handles those issues. I keep sending letters but nobody ever replies and calling or chat doesn't help either. The information given is NEVER the same twice.
Santander has single-handedly destroyed my opportunity at home ownership. I don't understand how what they did was legal, because it certainly doesn't seem legal or beneficial in any way for either of us. There's absolutely no benefit in continuing to pay my car loan anymore. I would have paid it until the bitter end had they not destroyed my credit pointlessly. Go to a "buy here, pay here" place and save yourself tens of thousands of dollars instead.
Also, the value of my car is about $8,000. After paying almost $600 a month for FOUR years, I still owe $20,000 until my car loan will be paid off. Which is nearly the exact same amount I owed four years ago. Do the math. I've paid Santander $28,800 for a car that was only worth $18k to begin with and I somehow still owe $20k, meaning I'm paying FIFTY GRAND for a car worth less than TWENTY. They call it 26% interest, but that's certainly not accurate either when you do the math. Seriously, make a deal with Satan before you make a deal with Santander. You couldn't possibly fare any worse.

I moved from Kentucky to Florida in March of 2013. I was going through a divorce and just wanted to start over. In my first month of living in Florida, I got into a wreck that totaled my car. I didn't have anyone to help me, and I needed a car quickly. I had a rental for a few days so I needed to find a new car fast. I found a car that I loved, a 2008 VW Eos. My credit wasn't great from my divorce and some bad decisions I made in college with credit cards. When the dealership mentioned Santander was the only company that would offer me a loan, I had to take it. I needed the car to get to work and I didn't have much of a choice. My interest rate was insanely high (16%) but I felt like I had no other options. My monthly payment was $320 a month, even though I put down several thousand from my totaled vehicle. I felt trapped. Santander never took care of me, I always felt like I was being penalized.
I am a retail manager, so sometimes it was hard to make payments. I got tons of fees for paying late so I asked for an extension in November 2015. They granted it to me, but then I was slammed with a bill in the middle of Christmas and was basically threatened when I told them I couldn't pay it on time. I tried to go through a company to refinance my loan. They said I was too "upside down" on my loan to be refinanced. In the meantime, my car was losing value, it's eight years old at this point and Santander informed me that I still owe 10,230 dollars on this car that isn't even worth 5,000 dollars!!! In October, I paid 350 dollars on my car. I had fallen behind earlier in the year and asked for another extension, they told me that I could do that but then I never heard anything again.
For an unrelated reason, I have recently had to take a medical leave from work. I went out yesterday to get into my car, and I'm standing in my driveway looking at an empty spot where my car used to sit. There are drag marks in my driveway, tire marks through mine and my neighbor's lawn, and no sign of my car. I started sobbing and called the police. They asked if it was possible that it had been repossessed. I said no, I had just made a payment! When I called Santander, they said they had repossessed it and they had called me several times to let me know.
I can put my hand on a bible and swear on the life of my own mother that I did not receive a call from them, no letters, no voicemails to indicated that they were going to take my car away this month. They offered to give it back to me for $590 dollars, and to give me a two month extension. I told them to shove it, they have screwed me on that car since day one and now my credit is ruined from a repossession on my record. PLEASE take my advice, never deal with them, no matter what your circumstances. I am basically ruined because of my decision to trust Santander with my car loan. DO NOT DO IT. I cannot stress that enough.

She confirmed my deposits and after I had asked her to give me changes, she accused me of giving her a $100 counterfeit bill. I had clearly remembered that I had given the new $100 bill. She somehow swapped the bill indoor to put it in her pocket. The manager tried to escalate the situation but she didn't even have any knowledge of whether the bill was counterfeit or not.
I urged both of them to watch the cameras and let me know if I had given her the money and they claimed that it would take time to find the footage. I clearly told them that if I had given that money then I would take the responsibility and would apologize but they didn't have the system to check the cameras. I have been coming to this branch for 3 months and almost all the employees know me and I had no problems besides this ** girl full of arrogance with a dull personality. They took 2 hours to figure out that the bill was not counterfeit rather it was original. The manager had no idea how to check a counterfeit bill. I told her that when you mark a bill it would give the color black if it's a counterfeit bill. She had to call an employee who was on a vacation to confirm.
This branch is a joke where people with no intelligence is hired and work for nothing good. I would never go back rather would withdraw and switch to a different bank. They not only wasted my time but was not apologetic. I hope that ** girl who's zero intelligence is fired from her position. While the manager was double checking the money, she was chewing her snack and using her phone when there was a line waiting to be helped. I would kindly urge you guys to find a better branch or even a better bank than this.

So I call Chrysler Capital once my first payment is due. They tell me I have to have a set of Temp Duty orders or PCS orders in order to show them I'm active duty. So, I don't make a payment, sit and wait... and lo and behold, they don't reduce my rate, and come up with you have to have a set of deployment orders, and you have to have NOT be in the military before your contract... It is my sincere hope that this post helps one person to avoid potential destruction. I purchased my vehicle 11/2010 and the loan was set to mature October 15, 2016. Guess what? It will not. My car note is set to be paid off, 2018. Why? In the ignorance of making payments and blindly thinking that my payments were being applied to the principal; investigation reveals that I have paid $16,000 plus on the interest and $3200 has been applied to the principal. This is on a vehicle that was supposedly financed for $12,000.00. Oh, and let me add, that over $7,000 in repairs, a new transmission, everything under the hood has been replaced and all power window motors have been replaced.
I IMPLORE AND BEG anyone who is purchasing a vehicle and Santander is mentioned as the company with which the loan will be financed thru, to "RUN, DO NOT WALK" out the door! Tell the salesperson to consider other options or let you take the paperwork to a bank or credit union for a loan officer to review. DO NOT SIGN, anything. There are options, PLEASE do not get blindly LOCKED into a loan with Santander.
What has been considered legal by our government to allow Santander to operate in such a "scheming and diabolical" business manner is wrong. This bothered me so much that I contacted the Attorney General's office and they have requested that I submit my paperwork for this loan. This company seems to prey on the seemingly not credit worthy of society. To be allowed to operate in such a manner makes the words of truth written a long time ago in the Bible, "man has dominated man to his harm" (Ecclesiastes 8:9).

I wish I too could give a lower star. The company is designed to ruin your credit, and make sure you never pay off the loan. I was in an accident, and they would credit checks weeks after receiving them, and not providing information so the process took longer, so they could tack on late fees and interest. They agreed to lower my payment, but has not complied with their own letter. 5 days after the payment is due, 7 days after a phone call pointing out I do not owe what their system says. Yesterday I received a letter that I am 45 days past due (I'm not). Instead of paying them (my only creditor that I was using to rebuild my credit), I think I will file bankruptcy, or move forward with disputing them any way I can. 2 years left of payments on a car I don't have (I did not cause the accident), and they are ruining my credit, so I cannot buy a house. I'm over them!

Santander car loan is a complete rip off. Please do not use them for anything. I got a car loan from them in 2008 on a Toyota Camry. It was a 2004 at the dealership. I was lead to believe the car was only going to be 21,000 so I agreed to the car loan. Got home to see that the loan was going to be actually 40,000 due to high interest and fees. Well anyway I made my payment of 500 dollars every month. After a year of making payments on time I start noticing that my balance was lower any. I called and they corrected the issue. So in 2011 I heard a tow truck pulling into my yard. It was the repo man... How I made my payments on time... According to Santander I didn't. I paid almost 700 dollar in fees to get my car back. Finally I paid off my loan in 2012 but I have never got my title. I call and they have no information on my account. Wtf. 2016 still no title. I just got a lawyer. This crazy! NEVER USE THIS LOAN COMPANY!

I regret that I financed my car thru this bank. I have paid a lump sum payment towards my principal back in August and here is September and they are not able to update my account and give me a direct answer. Yesterday I was told by a manager that my account would be up to date today. When I checked my balance on the phone this morning not only it did not reflect the money paid toward the principal but it also indicated my account is 32 days past due. Even though I paid a lump sum towards my principal I have still been making my payments thru electronic deductions from my checking account on time every month. I would not recommend Santander to anyone for financing their vehicles.

I availed a Balance Transfer with Santander Bank and paid 3.5 % processing fee. The Customer Care Executive affirmed that the period is for 24 months. But every month Santander charged interest for the Balance Transfer amount. I called them and they say that I do not qualify for the 24 months as I am a existing customer and it is only available for the new customers.
The customer care executive acknowledged that it was a mistake by the employee but nothing can be done to correct the same. I have to continue to pay the interest even though it is the mistake of their employee. Santander --> Run, Santander --> Run Fast, Santander --> Run in the opposite direction. Santander --> Run as fast as you can.

Instead they applied it to future payment thereby costing me thousands of dollar over the term of the loan. Each time I call to request the money to be applied to principal, the customer service person was rude and would not help.
Also, I had an insurance claim on the boat this past summer and the insurance company made the claim check out to me and Santander. I had to sent the check to TX to get it endorsed. They kept my check for over a month then told me they were APPLYING THE CHECK TO MY PRINCIPAL and I would have to pay out of pocket get the boat repaired!!! This has to be illegal!!! I had to argue with the customer service rep and request a supervisor. I finally got my money ONLY BECAUSE I PAID OFF THE LOAN!!! THIS WAS THE WORST BANKING EXPERIENCE I EVER HAD!!!

Santander Bank is the only banking institution in Pennsylvania that deals with a loan program called penncap. Penncap is a loan for people in Pennsylvania who can not get a conventional loan to start a business. I spent months working on a business plan with the intentions of obtaining the penncap loan. I had an embarrassing experience with Santander, so I complained to Ana Botin CEO the head of Santander in Madrid Spain to complain about this incident.
I also mentioned in my correspondence the penncap Loan. I got a call from the people in Santander Bank Reading PA. They called to tell me they had received my complaint and they also notified me that Santander does not do start up companies. This is disgusting revelation that a Bank from another country can come to America, sign up for our programs and then tell you, you don't qualify because they don't do startups but the program is for startups and their attitude was too ** bad!!! "We don't lend to startups and there's nothing we can do" and then I was blamed because, I didn't know they don't fund startups.
I have asked them to remove themselves from this program! They do not care about you!!! Santander is the worst bank, full of conceited people who don't give a damn about your welfare you could drop dead right in front of them and they won't even pick up the phone to call an ambulance. They are the worst Bank ever and they have billions of dollars. And they don't do startups? And their attitude is too bad. "It's your fault not ours that you didn't know we don't do startups!" I went off on the woman! I said "it's your problem. You're the one who should know the information that they print on the pamphlet of the penncap loan!" If youre a startup company and you're looking to get this penncap loan forget it!!! Santander doesn't care! And because of them you will never be in business!!!
They should not be allowed to do business in this country!!! What gives them the right to change the program to fit their needs!!! It was designed to help people in Pennsylvania who can't get a regular loan!!! And now that Santander is in charge of Penncap you will never be in business!!! Why does our government allow the foreign banks control Americans? The USA is under control of every other country but our own!!! And the next thing they will do is try and take control of our united States and we won't be able to stop it! Beware of Santander! THEY ONLY WANT TO STEAL YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY! This is the second letter I write to the Office of Consumer Credit Commissioner. This letter serves as a follow-up to previous complaints about Santander Consumer USA Inc. (Santander), in reference the bank's negligent actions that has resulted harmful to my finances and my family. Today, I am informing you that my situation has worsened; now I no longer have my car, used to earn a living as a driver, have no credit and lost my job; additionally, will have to leave my house. As of today, since I no longer can afford to pay the rent; all these unfortunate events caused by Santander, and I have no idea what else can I do under this circumstances.
I am truly desperate due to a situation caused by the negligence of Santander; how could it be possible that I am involved in this situation, which I did not caused, through no fault of my own; and no one seems to care or do something about it; I don't have the means or resources to defend myself or hire an attorney; Santander stated that they would resolve this problem, but instead they came and took my card, my only means of income, and I lost all the monies paid, even the initial downpayment on the car. On my initial letter of complaint I informed that: I make a living as a driver, which is my sole source of income and on March 20th, 2016, I was involved in an automobile accident; and I took my car to EXPERT COLLISION & WHEELS CORP, which is an approved auto repair service provider by my insurance company.
This collision repair company finished repairing my car a couple of weeks later and the insurance company sent a check to my home address for final payment to the auto repair company, which had to be endorsed by me and Santander. I immediately proceeded to send the check to Santander for its endorsement and prompt payment to EXPERT COLLISION & WHEELS CORP.
Santander failed to endorse and send the corresponding payment check to this auto repair company in due time; and Santander's lack of response is what has led to this unfortunate situation, that caused damage and harm to my family's well-being by sequestering my only source of income and placing my family in financial hardship. I am very frustrated and concerned to say the least; I expected a much higher level of service from Santander's organization; and trust that this letter of complaint is useful to your Agency to assist in solving this unfortunate situation with Santander. Thanking you in advance for your valued support on this matter.

If there was a way to give less than one star I sure would. The company is quick to send nasty letters, sometimes even before the due date. The last payment, "pay-off", does not automatically get deducted from auto pay, but notice comes as a demand letter to settle a claim. Don't even think about calling and asking any questions, I've been on hold with them for approximately 3 hours, for 10 minutes of very rude conversations. After six months, I still have no title to my boat, so they sent me release of lien, and told me to take it to DMV to apply for new title... I told them to take their paper work and shove it, but they probably hear that day in day out, because she didn't even flinch. Stay away from them if possible.

They harassed me from 7 am to 11 pm every month! If I made a payment today, they would ask when I would make next one.
They keep your payment information without your authority. They call your employer when you tell them you're not allowed calls at work. They charge you a $10.99 fee when you use credit, debit or check account. A 6 yr Payment on my car turned to be 8 yrs. I fell behind 3 months, and they added ridiculous fees! So for the past year and a half I have been battling with Santander over my car payment. They keep telling me that I am behind but cannot send me a statement or any papers showing when and how I got behind. So for a year I had to call them to make my car payment over the phone which cost me $14.95 to do this. After a year of paying this fee I decided to mail the payment in to them. On each check was a bright sticky post-it with my name, phone number, DOB and last 4 of my SS# so that my payment got posted to the correct account. Along with all this info was also a request for a statement to be mailed to me.
So its been almost 2 years and I still have no paper statement with my balance. So last night when I got home from work a flatbed pulled in my driveway to repo my car. Said I was $1400 behind and he had to take it. I called Santander and they told me I was $2400 behind. I told her that the repo company said $1400 and she stated that it was $1000 in late fees. So we "chatted" back and forth about why it was so high. Even told her that I had not gotten a statement in the mail in almost 2 years. She checked on it and said it was flagged in the computer that it was not a good address and had came back. Don't know how many times it came back because she didnt share that info with me. I told her that I get my electric, gas, phone, cable, insurance and water bills at that address every month. I even asked where my letter was saying that they were going to repo my car and again she said it wasn't a good address.
So I am suppose to have a ton of late fees, a repo letter that never made it to me and statements that never made it to my address. She told me to check with my post office to see why they are not delivering my mail from Santander. I guess the post office goes thru my mail every month and picks out the Santander bill and sends it back according to the representative at Santander. What a JOKE. Every month when I mail a check to them I get an email saying my statement is ready but I cannot login to my account with them because I do not have an account and cannot set up one without my account number which they also will not give to me over the phone. They say they will mail it to me or email it to me. I have never got my account number via mail and cannot log into email without a password or account number. They just do not understand.
So here I sit with no car, no statement in almost 2 years and NO repo letter. I would never ever use Santander as a finance company. If you can finance somewhere else DO IT. They have cost me a fortune with "late fees, repo fees and the repo service fees" plus the past due they say I owe but cannot show it to me. I am very unhappy and am looking to see what I can do legally to take care of this ongoing matter.

I got a loan through Santander for a 2013 Chrysler. Last year I started having health issues and I was out of work on Short-Term disability. I did not have any income. I got behind. Long story short I asked what I needed to pay to get caught up. I paid over 1,500 and the very next day collection calls started again. I received the wrong information. I needed to pay more in order to catch up. I had already spent the money taking care of other bills. If given the right information I could have taken care of the delinquent balance. Getting the wrong information seems to be a trend with Santander. Fast Forward I was never able to catch up. I asked if they could refinance, defer a few payments so I could start fresh... nothing. I asked if I could drop off the car the representative said they didn't have a drop off location, that I would be notified about a pickup and I could meet the repo guy elsewhere other than my residence. That did not happen.
The repo company felt as if they needed to wait until 2 AM in order to repo the car. The driver was a complete jerk. I was trying to get my stuff out of the car and he tried to block the door and kept wanting the key. I explained once I get my things you can have the key. I am just trying to unlock the door. That turned into a bad experience. My neighbor even got involved.
Santander has ridiculous rates, you can never get correct information from them and they are dishonest about their collection practices. Not everyone wants to hide a car or fight the repo guy. I think more could have been done to help me keep the vehicle. When I was out of work they could help. When I went back to work there was nothing they can do. They definitely need better customer service and collection practices. Even as it pertains to getting my car back I got two different answers. One representative said I had 3 days to get it back, the other said I had until the 15th of the month. Legally they are supposed to notify you of their intent within 2 days by mail or phone. It has been 5 days and I have not received any phone calls or paperwork from Santander.

Actual payments after 2 years showed interest payments all over the place with only 10 out of 24 payments below $200 interest applied. I actually paid in advance the second month to get ahead of the game, and the following 2 months they applied the entire amount of my payment to interest only, even though no payments late. Not once until Dec 2014 did I have a late payment when we decided this was bull.
After our Jan 2015 payment (which was applied solely to interest due to the December missed payment) we decided to have them take the collateral to the loan and call it quits. It took them 3 months to come for the car (which we told them to come get and did not drive it during that time) and they sold it at auction. Though we paid them, over the course of 2 years, over $7,400 and they made $2000 at auction, they still want us to pay over $9000 more for an original loan amount of $11,819. Santander has done a profit and loss write-off to their accounts, but has still passed this on to a debt collector. This debt collector, NCB Management Services Incorporated, who is affiliated with Santander (NCB Management Services, Inc. secured a new senior credit facility from a four-bank syndicate led by Santander Bank in Feb 2015), is now attempting to collect that debt.
This junk debt buyer is attempting to collect debt that is inaccurate due to the mishandled interest payments and therefore violates federal law. "§ 808. Unfair practices. Unfair practices. A debt collector may not use unfair or unconscionable means to collect or attempt to collect any debt. Without limiting the general application of the foregoing, the following conduct is a violation of this section: (1) The collection of any amount (including any interest, fee, charge, or expense incidental to the principal obligation) unless such amount is expressly authorized by the agreement creating the debt or permitted by law."
All in all... over the 2 years in this loan, the actual amount they scammed me out of by paying the incorrect interest payments is only about $150... but it's the principle of the matter. After 6 years it would have been about $500 extra if they only played the same games (and from what I've read it can get worse instead of better). Imagine the thousands of loans they have and the amount of money they are scamming people out of every year by mishandling the application of interest paid. No one notices a dollar at a time, especially when you pay the same amount each month and their magic happens only in the fine detail that most don't bother to examine until it's too late... (Like me)... but multiply that times 100,000 loans and suddenly the amount is much different... and they do this EVERY MONTH!
I am contacting lawyers to see if what they have done is illegal (I can't see how it isn't) and I have written to my state's Attorney General and will fight this. This company has been mishandling people's loans for far too long and something needs to be done about it. Hopefully it will set a precedence which will help others with the same problem.

So in March we stopped making payments and told them to come get it because they weren't willing to restructure the loan or do anything to help us. And I felt like we were never going to pay it off and our 425 a month was basically to rent the vehicle.
Well here it is July and the car still sits out there. No one has picked it up. We are not driving it and it's just been waiting to be repossessed. However they do call 10 times a day and we have told them several times to come get it. Finally we have stopped answering the calls and hopefully someone picks it up soon. We are prepared to deal with whatever comes our way with this because they just rob people and scam money and continue to add fees and nothing goes towards principal. If someone ever offers you financing through Santander you need to RUN no matter how badly you need a car. I promise you they are not worth it.

What they are doing is stealing people money via the payments by applying the payment to only the interest and not applying anything to the principle. They hope that people won't notice. This is highly illegal. If you're in the same situation you should file a complaint with your local state attorneys office.

I had my car paid off through another bank in March. I was supposed to have received a refund check from my loan overage. It is now July still haven't received my money. I call Santander all the time, spoken to multiple people and no one can answer me as to why I haven't received my money. They've gave me multiple numbers to call which all lead to electronic services where I can't speak to a real person. Today they went as far as "transferring" me to another department and hanging up on me after 30 minutes of being on hold. Don't ever do business with them. I am now putting in a dispute with the Better Business Bureau. It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't need that money to pay bills.

I got behind, therefore 12/13/2015 I received a call on Sunday morning from one of their reps. When I asked him not to call me on a Sunday he told me he didn't call me, a machine did and as long as I was behind he was going to continue to call me. I told him I was getting ready for church. He kept talking and as soon as I hung the phone up I told my daughter I think I'm having a stroke. My mouth started twisting to the right. When the paramedics got to my residence they immediately started working on me. The left side of my brain is dead, I couldn't walk, not talk, couldn't use my right side at all.
When I was able to talk I explain to them what had happened to them it was like "I'm sorry. Hope you get better," and that was it. The stroke was in the stem of my brain, I walk with a limp, my speech isn't the same anymore. The doctors told me not to let nobody upset me like that again. Without notice or anything they took the car on 6/25/2016 around 1:00 am. My daughter was talking with them and working with them.

Unlike many people here, we actually paid our bills on time for 4+ years. We decided it was time to get a new vehicle and traded in the one we had financed through Santander. We purchased the vehicle on the 7th of May and the dealer (a large, reputable dealer, not some fly by night place) cut a check on the 8th for the payoff amount (they provide us and Santander copies of the check). As soon as the due date of the account passed, Santander started calling. 7-8 times per day. We were stumped. We no longer had the vehicle. We called Santander and told them that we had traded the vehicle in. Santander stated that we needed to have the dealer call them. We offered to give them the dealer’s number because we had already given the dealer a POA to take care of it and that is who they should be contacting regarding payment. They refused and claimed that they couldn't call out. ??? How are they calling us 20 times a day if they can't call out?
We contacted the dealer, who showed us copies of the check, who agreed to cancel the other check and send another. They sent another check on the 1st of June, which they provided us a copy of. 8 days later we receive a notice from Santander that we are in default and need to pay X amount within 72 hours or they will pursue collection of the entire amount. Sat in on a three way call with the dealer and Santander representative to try and rectify the situation. Santander representative was unwilling to accept any offer or provide any information for the dealer to wire or electronically transfer the money and stated that they would only accept mailed checks. Dealer claimed that this was how they work things. They will refuse payoff as long as possible in order to collect as many fees and charges possible. Luckily we've documented everything and will be pursuing legal action along with the dealer.

I had a terrible experience with a personal banker at the Warminster, PA branch Santander. I own a business and was looking to open an account that best fits my needs and I was directed to a personal banker named Tatyana. She had a difficult time even comprehending the needs of my business account and just kept repeating herself about a promotional account they were offering that came with a $100 beginning balance. I kindly explained to her that I could care less about the promotional account and was looking for something more conducive to a business. She then started going over the terms of other types of account, and it was then that I realized she was half illiterate!! She couldn't read or pronounce half of the terms and conditions that she was trying to convey to me.
Trying to make light of the situation, I jokingly smiled and asked her where she got her degree. She told me she didn't have one, and that she had no experience in banking prior to being hired a few months ago!! The woman I was about to trust with handling my finances and investments had no more education than a high school diploma and no more understanding of finance than a golden retriever. I politely declined opening an account there and left. I did a little research and learned that hiring under qualified personal bankers is Santander's MO because they can pay them half of what they pay qualified financial assistants. This is unacceptable and deceitful in my opinion, because as a stakeholder you just assume that your bank and bankers would be qualified to handle your money. Not the case with Santander.

This company financed my vehicle for 6 years. Going into my third year, I had a financial situation which I got behind 3 months (but paying what little I could). I finally got the TOTAL AMOUNT to get my account current. Which the company confirmed was all I needed to pay. I sent the money (MoneyGram). The next 4 months my payments were on time, then I received a letter in the mail stating that I owe late fees that was not paid from the time I was behind. So I call the company and ask why I was charged late fee, when I asked what I owed to get current, why 4 months later? I was told that whoever I spoke with at the time I paid the full amount, did not give me the correct amount owed. I ask Santander to send me a print of my payment history and when this late fee really all started. From there on it became threats, harassments, and rude calls at my employment and at home.
I still paid my monthly payments each month, while they were calling for the late fee, then Santander started adding late fee to the supposed late fee. Which just became out of hand. My supervisor then brings me in regarding these rude calls the Santander was making every day sometime 3 times a day. Then the Santander threaten me to take me to court and get the vehicle back. I told the company to go ahead and pick it up at my home or I could park it where it's convenient for them to pick up. They never picked up the vehicle. I even ask that they take it to court so maybe then they can provide the statement and settle this. And to make matters WORSE the day they did receive the check they said I was 29 days late in my payments and that I didn't pay the last two months when two days before I paid over 1,500 and the month before I paid 500+. They said that apparently both payments were returned to me but they couldn't tell me why they were returned. And Santander said if I don't pay the 2000+ that it will affect me credit after 30 days late. I told them I did pay and that they did take the money out both times. We should be able to stop payment. You will not qualify for hardship until March 1, 2016 and I am sorry she misinformed you."
I advised my nearest payment would have to be February 23, and IDK what the payment will be since I have been off work for a couple weeks. He advised, "We understand and have it documented down. I advised the woman again that I was just starting work, had been off for a month and will be paying on February 23, upon which the associate advised, "okay I have and see documentation...", apologized for the inconvenience and disconnected.
I then later that night got a call from a female associate stating I didn't call and need to make payment arrangements. I called again 9am Missouri time. I reached the same lady that left a message and she advised, "I see nothing documented down... You can't pay anything February 19th?" I advised she could set me up but won't guarantee anything since I was off due to a work-related injury unpaid, talked to other associates and made payment arrangements, and will probably not have a check until the 23rd of February and will continue paying unless or until I can file a hardship March 1, 2016. Associate advised "ma'am you don't qualify for a hardship until March 4, but I will document everything down and will not guarantee that we won't tow your car."
I started to advise her that I had again set up payment arrangements so you guys won't tow my car and the associate disconnected. I called on February 15 and told a female associate that I needed the payment moved to the 23rd and the associate advised, "I cannot move it, but I can cancel the payment for the 19th. I need you to make that payment on the 23rd of February and I will document everything down." February 19, payment posted and I called again. I was advised by another male associate, "My records show this payment was not cancelled and see no record of that call. I will document your payment by MoneyGram on the 23rd. Please call back before you make a payment to get required information." I advised okay.
I again called this time after work. This time a Jeremy ** answered. I asked how to submit my information, where I was advised again, "none of this was documented down and I do apologize, but I will do that right now... Your account number______ you send MoneyGram 1192, that is how to pay by MoneyGram." I cut the associate off and asked for a supervisor. The associate tried to de-escalate mentioning, "to pay what you can and just notify us of what you are paying and you will not have to file a hardship." I advised how many associates I spoke with and asked his name... Jeremy ** and Jeremy got his supervisor on the phone. I talked from a little after 9pm till almost 10pm mentioning what I said above.
The supervisor advised he did have everything documented and will document. My payment of... I advised biweekly what I can until July of 2016 unless I file a hardship because I need my car for work. The supervisor advised, "no hardship needed. Just notify us of your payment I will document biweekly of..." I advised I was going to try $500 payments but will tell you on MoneyGram or something if it is short. The supervisor advised okay... Then took a kudos I gave Jeremy for actually being the one in few to document.
I paid on the 23rd of February and got another call from a female associate advising she was calling to see when my next payment was going to be made. I advised I spoke to Jeremy and his supervisor and was going to pay biweekly and they would receive a payment of ____ March 12, 2016. The associate again advised she would document. I advised her I appreciate it and just don't want my car towed and want to pay them all they way current by the end of July of 2016. The associate again advised it was okay.

In May and June of 2013, I sent in two separate payments of $300, totaling up to $600 per month through their IVR (interactive voice response system) which transfer you to Western Union, Speedpay services. After requesting for my payment history several times, I finally got one in November 2015. After review to discovered only $300 was applied to my account for both months.
Since, I had all my information including my email receipts from Santander, I filed a complaint with the company, whom called me the next day. I was able to explain the situation but received absolutely no assistance. I was informed that Santander Consumer DOES NOT honor their payment receipts. Thus stating, no further action would take place. My case was closed the very next day (Saturday) to be followed by a closed and charged off report to all three credit bureaus on that Monday.
Those missing payments caused a domino effect of issues for me. One to mention was a repossession, the vehicle was redeemed but was vandalized. (Claim was filed for that as well, with no resolution. I had to cover cost of repairs) Not to mention, the quantity of calls are ridiculous and excessive. I advise anyone whom may consider this company as a lender, reconsider!!! Also, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE READ AND LEARN YOUR RIGHTS!!! There are rights that protect consumers, educate yourselves and hire a lawyer!!! You will one dealing with Santander Consumer.

Let me just start by saying this is the worst consumer lending agency ever! I have never dealt with more incompetent people in my life. On December 20, 2015 my son was killed in the vehicle that Santander financed. On December 20, 2015 my insurance company notified them of his death and the vehicle was a total loss and requested a payoff balance. On January 15, 2016 Santander posted the check for the payoff but unfortunately the check was made out to the wrong company. Santander never informed me that the check was returned and reported this against my credit as being past due. I was never given the opportunity to make a payment until the new check arrived.
On February 2, 2016 I received a credit alert that a derogatory remark had been made against me. When I called Santander to find out what was going on, this is when I was told about the check. The insurance company called and requested a new payoff balance. They sent 2 checks in the same envelope. Here comes the interesting part. No human opens the mail and processes it. Its a computer system that opens the mail and scans whatever is inside the envelope and then attaches it to the correct account. The only problem is that when you send 2 checks in 1 envelope the system doesn't recognize the 2nd check and discards it. This is what a Santander Employee from the Office of the President told me.
So my insurance company issued them another check for the one that was missing. Would you know that first check cleared the bank the day Santander signed and received the 2nd check via FedEx. On March 3, 2016 I was told that they hadn't received that last check yet. I was told that there was a balance of 283.37 and that if I made a payment of 141.72 the remaining balance would be written off and that when they received the check for 742.58 from my insurance company they would refund all that back to me since I had made multiple payments while things were straightened out because of their mishap.
Turns out I never needed to make a payment because on February 29, 2016 they credited the first check for 742.58 that they told me they had shredded. Now Santander is going back on their promise. They are telling me that since the check was applied on the 29th the agreement of me paying 141.72 and writing off the remaining balance had been revoked. So basically they want to send me a check for 601.13 because they said the check was already posted so they should have never given me that deal. Santander must think Im a fool. This is nothing but creative bookkeeping. This is a way for them to draw interest off your money when they're not entitled to it.
As of today 3/8/2016 my payment history still does not reflect my credit card payment of 141.72 nor does it reflect the 742.58 check from my insurance company but the balance shows I owe nothing on the loan. I wanted to talk with a supervisor but like always they're never available. If Santander thinks they're going to get away with this they wont. I have filed a complaint with the BBB and the Banking Commissioners office in Texas and I am prepared to hire an attorney. I advise everyone that's had a problem with them to contact the banking commissioners office and let them review your account.
Santander also promised me that they would fight to remove this off my credit report since it was their fault for not calling or sending me anything explaining that this was past due because of the check error and not giving me the opportunity to make a payment. I have immaculate credit and in 30 plus years I have never had a single late payment on any credit card payment or loan. Santander also informed me that it takes 30 to 45 days to issue a refund. If they're going to hold on to my money that long then I should be entitled to the interest they're making off it since they had no right to the money in the first place. Like I said this is some very creative bookkeeping this company does and Im going to make sure there's a stop put to it. Please take my advice and look around for another lending company because this company will rip you off!

I sent in my monthly payment. I had forgot to put city and state on my envelope. So naturally my payment came back. This is understandable. To make sure they received it right away I mailed it priority. The Post Office said it was delivered, however Santander said if they have it it won't go through for another 4 days. Similar things have happened 2 other times. I really love my car but am tempted to have them come and take it back. I can easily get a loan from another dealer with about the same payment. I took an auto loan with this company. There were fees on my account and I asked to have them waived several times and the response was always no. The reason, it is a policy. At that time I reviewed my signed contract and there was no such mention of these fees or that there was no way to reverse them. Again I chatted with the company, wanting everything in writing. I was informed that this was not listed in the signed contract. That it was just a company policy that clients are not aware of. I find this almost fraudulent as I am getting fees added to my account regarding something their consumers are not aware of.

To begin with, and unfortunately, our credit was not that good when we bought a car for my son. The car dealer used Santander Bank for the loan, and shame on us for signing it, but we got into a loan paying over $500 a month for a car loan and now, after 2 years of paying on time, have gone back to Santander and asked for a lower interest rate or a modification to lower the payments and were told, very harshly from the manager, "NO, we don't refinance loans. You'd have to go to another bank to do that." I would never go back to Santander and I hope this review helps someone else stay away from them.

I had a car loan through this company that was paid for in August 2012. I have never received a title to this vehicle. I called Santander in September 2012 to request another title and was told one was mailed. Again one was never received. It is now February 2016 and I still have not received a title to this vehicle. I contacted my county courthouse to apply for a lost title and was told that they still show a lien on the vehicle (which was paid off in 2012) so they must have a release of lien letter from Santander.
I cannot get a HUMAN on the phone, a living breathing human doesn't answer the phone. Finally after over an hour of calling numbers and internet searches I reach someone but because it is over 60 days since payoff they have a 3rd party vendor to handle the requests which will cost $30 to get a release of lien letter. This has been a nightmare!!!! I will never ever ever have a loan, or anything connected to this company in my lifetime!!! Terrible customer service!!!

We had got a loan with santander because my boyfriend did not have any credit. We pay our payment every month on time, in fact early and even more than what we are supposed to pay. We have been trying to get the principal down so we can refinance to get a better rate. So this month I decide that I am going to send in an extra principal payment. Mind you that we have a 10.95 charge every time you make a payment and then I was told that you cannot make a principal payment over the phone that it needs to be sent in. So as a good customer I write my check out. I write my account # and put principal only on the check. I even write principal only on the slip and put it in the correct box on the stub. So when I go to check what my principal is, I see that they did not apply the funds to the principal. They posted it as a PAYMENT.
So I called the company on 2/22/16 and say, "Hey you need to fix this." The rep said, "It will take a day ma'am." So I am thinking ok, it will be fixed. So 2/23/16 I check still isn't done. So I call back. Then I get told, "I'm sorry it's going to take up to 72 hrs." UNACCEPTABLE! I did everything I was supposed to do besides walk it from GA to TX. Really? So 2/24/16 I still do not see it's completed. I call back again. At this point I am highly escalated. I am wanting to make a complaint, I am speaking with managers that just don't care. I get over to the so called "president's office" and that is a joke too. Still nothing. I get told by a person at the president's office, "I will call you back today." Was I really expecting her to call back? Nope. If I held my breathe I probably would be dead right now.
I go to called and spoke with a mgr last night at the call center and she advised that it was completed and when I wake up my acct will be fixed. I was like, "Really? Can it be they actually gave me my money back that they stole?" So now it is 2/25/16 and they still have not fixed my acct. I am livid!!! I call the call center again and I am told the request was just submitted on 2/24/16. Ummm what happened to Monday??? What happened to it being fixed last night? ALL LIES!!! So yes I did tell the rep, "I want the money you stole from me." She said, "Ma'am we did not steal the money, we applied it wrong." No matter how you spin it, you stole it. I wrote principal only and you took some of my principal money for interest. THAT IS STEALING! I speak with a so called supervisor alexia ** in Barbados had the audacity to tell me she is "catering" to me. WTF. That was a supervisor. I just want my money back.
I speak with Zac in the president's office, no help. Joe the so called manager who will not transfer me to his boss was no help. At this point I am not sure what I can do. I do know I am so sick and tired of these lying no good thieves! When I was talking to Zac I asked him who the president was. He said Jason ** was one of the presidents. I said I guess what you read on the internet is true. Like that 9.35 MILLION Dollar lawsuit. His response was "well that happens in a large company." WTF. I work for a large company and that does not happen!.
Buyers beware! No matter how bad you want that car, if they offer santander do NOT do it. When I go back to the dealer to trade my car in hopefully next month I will tell the dealer if you value your clients and want them to keep coming back DO NOT OFFER THEM SANTANDER!!! I will walk up to every person looking to buy a car and tell them what kind of people this company is. THEY STEAL YOUR MONEY!!! Also they are not a BBB Accredited company either! I don't want to give them any stars. They do not deserve a star from me.

This was in 2013 so mind you it's a five year old car. I make payments on time. I see no movement and of course I see it's because it's paying off the interest rate. I purchased a used 2012 Hyundai Elantra for $11,999. I was also forced to purchase an extended warranty for $2500.00. I put down $6500.00 on the car. Total due was about $16,500. 2 years and 4 months later I still owe $16,500 unless I pay in full, then it's over $18,600. 24 payments of $461.97 were applied to interest only. Nothing went to principal. Add the $10.95 convenience fee they charge to make a payment no matter how you pay unless you mail it. Then they post it late, charge you late fees and charge you interest daily, not annually. There is no way this car will ever be paid off no matter what I do. The car got repo and it cost $1200 and 10 days to get back.
One week later the calls started that I still owed $1500 in interest. Don't send partial payments. They don't apply them. Wanted my $2500 back for the extended warranty because warranty from Hyundai was still active. Said to contact warranty company. Guess what? Santander owns the warranty company and they refused to refund any of it. It wasn't worth the paper its written on. I filed a complaint today with Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
I was injured at work in June and put out on comp. Notified them in writing about the hardship and sent proof. Won't take a lien on settlement. Won't suspend, modify or refinance the loan. They don't refinance. Not what I was told at the dealership. Was told I could refi after 6 months of on-time payments. They report me 60 to 90 days late every month. I made 2 payments in 1 week. They called looking for money. When I told them the dates and confirmation numbers, they could only locate 1 of the payments. I even complained to the president's office. Nothing changed. Nothing was done.
PLEASE FILE A COMPLAINT WITH CONSUMER FINANCE PROTECTION BUREAU. The more complaints, they get the better. They can fine them and shut them down, even force them to give us our money back and keep our cars. I pay more for this car than I did 10 years ago for a brand-new Mercedes. The book value on my car is under $8000. I'd be lucky to get $1500 with a trade-in and because of the payoff amount, I wouldn't be able to trade it in anyway. This loan is designed to fail. They get the money and they take the car. Stay away from this bank!

I then called the following Monday. Customer service could not "reach" adjustment services to determine why the money was deducted. There is "no way" for customer service to leave a message, they said. I called on Monday and I was informed that a prior check that I'd deposited had already been deposited in another account.
