I got a $15 late fee for paying early and was told it's because I have a automatic payment and the system doesn't recognize early payments. I always pay early and have never gotten a late fee and it's never been an issue. When I asked about that I was told they're not responsible. How can I trust a company that charges you for making early payments and picking when it's an issue. Imagine if they do this to every customer. They're practically stealing money and can't give a good explanation for a charge. The customer service is barbaric at most.

Horrible experience! I was in an accident, NO fault of my own other party. The other’s party insurance is willing to pay and process payment for diminished value of vehicle. However because Santander is the lien holder they have to make the request to the others party’s insurance. Santander refuses to do this! I’ve spent almost 2 yrs calling different departments and reps being bounced around promised this will be done but it doesn’t. State Farm is willing to pay $1200 diminished value towards loan of my vehicle but Santander has to make the request as owner of the vehicle which they REFUSE to do! Horrible lender.

Run away from this lender! I’ve talked to sooo many people requesting top in the organization being promised this matter will be escalated only to get the runaround. When your vehicle is in accident and you try to trade or sell you must disclose it was in an accident which lowers the value of the car. The other party at faults insurance is willing to pay this difference towards my balance but Santander refuses to make a damn effort to help themselves and me! Lazy jerks! Please do NOT do business with them. Horrible service!!! Read reviews bad ratings overall!!!

Also they are no longer reporting the payments that I am making. Their customer service people are rude and verbally abusive. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH SANTANDER CONSUMER USA.

My experience with this company is horrible. They overcharged me for my 2014 Outlander and I tried to trade out to get something cheaper and was told I was overcharged. No one could get me out of the SUV. So after years of payments and no decrease in my balance, I turned it back in. They sold my truck for pennies and want to charge me over 16,000.00 for the remaining balance. Smh. I wish I would have done my homework on this company before I agreed to that contract. Word of advice DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY TO FINANCE YOUR VEHICLE, YOU WILL GET RIPPED OFF...

I accidentally made a payment to Chrysler Capital (totally my fault) whom I HAD an account with. In an effort to try and get my money back I contacted my bank to issue an ACH refund and the only thing they could do for me was fax a letter to Chrysler stating they made the payment at my direction. Because I no longer have an account with Chrysler it is extremely difficult to get to Customer Service as it is all automated. When you do get a hold of them you can NEVER talk to the same person twice... AND YOU CAN NEVER TALK TO THE ACCOUNTING DEPARTMENT.

They are requiring documentation from my bank showing the transactions coming out of my account and a daily running balance. I sent this to them and blocked out everything else on the page. Now they are telling me that it is an altered statement and can't be used. They know they received money for a closed account and therefore the money doesn't belong to them. It has been 3 weeks since they received the money and still no end in sight as to me getting my money back. SHAME ON YOU CHRYSLER CAPITAL!! And to think I was a loyal customer for many many years... not so any longer.

After reading a few of the (mostly) negative reviews here I just had to chime in (as a satisfied SCUSA customer for almost 4 years now). It is apparent they all have a common theme... They didn't make their payments as agreed so they default and lose. It's life, in the USA if you sign a legal agreement, you are bound by it. Responsibility is key but most of these peeps just want to point the finger and blame others for their own problems. Speaking for myself, I have financed my car without any issues since purchasing in March of 2015 and Santander has been awesome, both online and on the phone whenever I seldomly called. Of course, I have responsibly paid on time every month, except one last year by a few days because of an issue with my pay.

In that instance, I promptly called them and explained my situation and they made note of it and were more than happy to flex a bit, which I was very grateful for. No rudeness or anything like that, very professional and personable. Of course I was respectful and courteous to them as well which I'm guessing a lot of these people posting these negative reviews were not when they communicated with SCUSA. You've gotta give respect to get respect people! Anyway, just wanted to post a 5 thumbs up because they deserve it based on my experience with them for the past few years. Nothing but a great experience from just a guy who is financing. Almost owning in a few months!... My baby Lex. Thanks for the awesome service Santander! Don't let the irresponsible lowlifes get you down!

In March of 2017, my car was repossessed. I paid off what I owed (total) amount in Nov 2017. They had already sold it in auction. Today is Oct 1st 2018 and I received a certified letter from a towing company that I owed them $1,900 and to come pick up my car as they have had it since August 2018. Apparently, when Santander put it to auction and someone bought it, they never did the paperwork to change title. I am livid. Then I find out whoever bought it was in a wreck. Why am I even dealing with this? You auctioned off car after repo, I paid you off in full... no more car for a year and a half and suddenly... I am getting nailed for a car you did not legally auction off? I am calling my attorney. This is unacceptable.

I got my car in April of 2018 and they repossessed it yesterday. My car was broken into and due to Hurricane Florence most of my things were destroyed. I kept in contact with them every step of the way so when the tow guy came I called them & they stated that I haven't been talking with them even after giving names of CSRs that I spoke with. They stated that since my account was new that I had to pay off my entire car ($19,971.63) instead of the amount of the past due ($870.63). All of the agents were rude and even told me that I need to check into the "public transportation" if I can't pay that large amount. I'm only giving them 1 star because it's required. If it wasn't they would get -100 stars. These people are ridiculous.

My fiance and I went to a dealership to get a vehicle, never should have signed but we are going and had great jobs and ended up caving and getting the new 2016 ram 1500 big horn. That was our first mistake... We both had credit scores over 750 but because we are young we were ran at a 17.97% interest rate by Chrysler Capital Finance. We stupidly signed the papers for a $937.97 per month payment. (At the time we could afford it) We ended up losing money in a fraud scam and my fiance took a layoff from his good job about the time I had a seasonal layoff from my job. We tried and tried to work with Chrysler to make our payments and pay ahead but every day we spoke with them we got completely different stories and nonsense and no one could give us a reason for our interest rate being so high.

We got the loan for $42000. We now owe over $44000 and that's after a $5000 payment that should have been put on five months worth of payments but never was and they refused to fix it and now our truck has been repoed. They "have no information and cannot access our account" to tell us where to go from here, how much we owe to get it back, what we may have to pay if we choose to not get it back or anything. Needless to say, this company is worthless and are on the top 3 in the nation of companies that NO ONE will refinance because of how crooked they are.

We were in a bankruptcy and our car was totaled in the middle of a chapter 13. That left us with very few options to obtain any credit to find a replacement vehicle that would satisfy the trustee's requirements in year, price, and mileage. There are very few lenders that will extend credit to someone in the middle of a chapter 13, despite having sufficient income to work it, leaving us with Santander (who also does business as Road Loans). I knew we would get taken to the woodshed on the interest rate, but there wasn't much choice we had.

The first few months were fine. We tried get a short of a loan as possible, and were paying as much as possible to pay off the loan as quickly as possible. Around the third month, the paper statements quit coming. We called. The Santander rep said they were not going to send statements at all. They said that we failed to disclose the bankruptcy, despite it being clearly noted in our credit files, and we noted it with the auto lot. We argued this, but our appeals to supervisors were for naught. Because of this, Santander said they would be disabling online access and ceased sending any paper statements. We were totally in the dark with the status of our loan. It at that point required multiple phone calls on a biweekly basis to check the payoff amount and last payment received to determine if they were actually crediting the account. Each phone call took upwards of 30 minutes on hold.

I managed to scrape up a few thousand and after a year was able to pay off the car entirely. Despite sending the payoff amount to the proper address, the Santander people claimed the check never arrived. We checked on the final due date of the month, almost 10 days after mailing the check off, and they still claimed to not have it. We had to pay another month's payment, and ended up getting stuck with another month's worth of interest. The following day, to call back about the payoff amount and last payment received, yet again, they mysteriously found the check they claimed was never sent. That led to another 6 week delay in getting our overpayment back. When that finally arrived, it didn't come as a check, but in the form of a prepaid Mastercard. Transferring money off that took another 3 business days.

At every turn, it felt like Santander was going everything possible to extract literally every penny possible from us at any cost. I have never dealt with a company like this, and for people with bad credit or in bankruptcy, I now see how this process and vicious sub prime lending works to keep people poor. I understand people need transportation to get to work, but if there's any way to avoid doing business with Santander, I would strongly encourage you to finance your vehicle any way possible.

In May 2017 they came and repossessed my car stating I was 64 days past due. I was like how. They reviewed my payments and the guy stated when you make a large payment you have to call us and we will know that you're paying notes and not the interest. Ok that's my fault because I didn't know that. Well I had to pay $783 to get my car back and I did that. I've been paying every month since May 2017 without any issues. On yesterday my car was repossessed again while I'm at work. I called and they stated I was 72 days past due. I said, "I've been paying every month since May 2017. How am I delinquent again." The customer service agent was very rude so I asked for a manager. He was like, "Basically you never caught up when we gave you the car back the 1st time." I said how because I can't get the car without being current.

He agreed but then said this is what you need to pay because you're not current. Well I called on today and spoke with another manager and I stated I have my attorney looking into this because if I've never missed a payment since 5/2017 how 9/2017 my car is being repossessed again. As he read the notes he was quiet and stated, "Let me send this higher because you're correct. There's no way you keep getting your car if it's still behind." I'm currently waiting on a call but also I'm calling to be refinanced somewhere else. My attorney is investigating the illegal repossession. Please do not do business with this company.

Had no problems. They never once contacted me about it or sent a letter. I woke up to my vehicle gone they repoed it without any notice. Called to see how much it would cost to get it back. Remind you I've had this car three years, they were very rude told me I had to pay the full balance plus 850 for picking it up. As a company you would think they would help you keep your vehicle and get the money you owe but they rather take it and get less for it. I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone. They will finance anyone no matter your credit and they will also hurt your credit in the worst ways. They have a habit of reporting late payments to your credit reports. My payment in the form of a money order was altered and deposited into their Chase bank account, Pay to the order of “Drive.” Come to find out that’s a subsidiary company of theirs. After filing an investigation with Western Union, no religion has came as they told me no one from their company would do that, and it must of been someone from where I purchased the money order. No resolution has came. I filed complaints with CFPB and my Attorney general and Santander told me they do not settle.

Also I have a 27.99 interest rate and have paid over $14000 in four years for a $11,000 car with my principle being $11,500 when I purchased, it’s currently $10,800 right now, and my car is only worth $5,000 on KBB. At the time of purchase between my credit score and lack of income with no co-signer, there should have been no way for me to purchase this vehicle. They did so with the sole attention of me never paying back the vehicle and for me to default which is a tactic that caused the 2008 recession. I want to start a class action lawsuit, so if anyone has an extremely high interest rate and thinks they were taken advantage of at the time of signing please contact me **.

I traded in my car in the year of 2016 due to a financial situation and my current car's reliability. I was in a hard spot and needed a new car immediately. I was approved for a car loan with Santander Consumer USA, with them approving me for $16,000 with very little credit, no co-signer, and no down payment. I knew this was a bad idea but I had a plan to refinance with my Credit Union in good time. Meanwhile, I had to pay $440/mo with a 26.97% APR. Wow, was I naive! And they knew this, and took advantage of it to their fullest. Here I am, 40,000 miles later, the resale value recently dropped, I'm screwed. Over the past two years I have worked extremely hard to secure a stable income and raise my credit, all while having to share my car due to family financials and putting on double the miles.

I called Santander Consumer USA to finally ask to re-evaluate the terms of my loan and refinance within the company, due to having a higher household income and much better credit history/score. They would not even consider my request. 4 out of 30 payments have gone to the principal of this car. This is my only option at this point. No other bank, financial institution, loan company will even CONSIDER refinancing with me. I figured after being a loyal customer and paying A BUNCH OF MONEY IN INTEREST they would have a reasonable outlook on how much they should or should not use their customers for their money, robbing them blind. Of course not. I don't know what I was thinking working so hard for this company. I don't know why I have given them my hard earned money. No person deserves to be treated like this. This is downright shameful.

I needed a loan really fast to purchase a vehicle from an individual through RoadLoans that happens to be a division of Santander. At that time my credit score was high 600s. Took out a loan with RoadLoans/Santander because it would have taken too long with my local bank to get the car I wanted. The expectations were to refinance the vehicle and lower the rate with my local credit union a few months later. I have to say It was really disappointing that Santander reported my loan late after I closed and paid off the account purchasing another vehicle. They reported me late on two occasions April & June for some odd reason. This transpired when I closed and paid off the account in July. I'd never been late in the two years of having the loan.

The other issue was after disputing this with the credit bureau Santander has added two more additional late payments from 2017 because disputed to the FTC. This time I will take it a step further. They did this four months after my account had been closed and paid off - Really credit bureaus and Santander? I plan to report this issue again with the FTC because they didn't handle the process accurately. Truthfully it's really unfair and unethical. I understand they are a subprime bank but this is unethical.

What we have to remember these are people that work for Santander. Believe me 99.9% of their employees are credit challenged and are told do this by upper management. Sad this is how they have to handle business. Santander does this intentionally because they prey on the lower tier credit scores and unfortunately that tier of individual needs them. But don't you worry Santander I won't ever go back to having a loan with your company again. Thanks for nothing. Great reputation.

We have been trying to resolve an outstanding debt with Sovereign (Now Santander Bank) since 2004. It has been nothing but a nightmare. Not to mention from a recent trip to the county courthouse they applied the mortgage on record as collateral for the SBA loan twice. When our water pipe broke and put in a Home Owner claim with our insurance company we found out that one of their employee's name was listed as an owner on our home and was listed as a signer on the check! After repeated multiple attempts to resolve the outstanding debt with the bank and two lawyers later the bank turned us over to the Department of Treasury.

Now that it has been turned over to them we thought it was finally over and we could reach a starting point to start paying down the debt. NOT. Bank statements from the bank were showing all payments made to Santander since wage garnishment started and also any other payments made. For almost a year now no payments are showing on the statements. We were told by a bank employee, "You have to see the person that opened the account". REALLY? The whole department (Business banking/SBA loans) were fired not long after we signed our loan with them back in 2001. And she also said, "Good luck!" The SBA asked for all our statements and are now investigating Santander.

Then I realized that they were really ignoring me hoping that I would just hang up so I stayed on the phone for a total of 40 minutes until they finally acknowledged me. This is how I know they knew who I was is because she said my first and last name. Also asked about my car the same as they do when you are a paying customer.

She told me then asked me why did I need to know. I told her that I work for the US Postal Service and that I was going to research this company to make sure that they were real. The tax preparer was arrested and indicted on charges of fraud. He was filing taxes under a fake EID number and had been under investigation. There is also an open case with the town Police department for which I have contacted the detective for theft of services with this tax service. I provided the bank with reviews, the detective name, phone number and a copy of the indictment against this Tax Preparation Office. Santander has denied my claim 3 times stating that the claim stops with the Credit Card Point of Service app known as Square Up. I did not know this app/product was being used but then again why would this matter.

However, it seems that Santander refuses to go after the merchant and has accepted the transaction records from Square as proof that they did everything as they should. The issue is not did they charge me for the service. The issue is the service was never provided - the taxes were not filed and the tax preparer SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN IN BUSINESS. Santander does not care. They told me to file a claim in small claims court and get an attorney. This is ridiculous. Santander so graciously offered to "defer" two months and place them to the back of my loan so I can remain current. I esigned the paperwork and sent it to them right away and I was under the impression that everything was back to normal.

Here and there I would make half payments in which they would approve (a little late) but never to any alarming extent enough to be repossessed. Lo and behold, I went to make another half payment like agreed upon when I spoke to them and couldn't get through the automated for checking account, debit, or online. I was frustrated and I couldn't stay on hold to pay $10.00 fee that they wouldn't waive so I opted to pay via bill pay with my bank. I made the payment on Friday, it cleared on my end and it hadn't cleared on theirs so they took my car!

Their customer service never helped me one time as much as I had contacted them. I spoke to the manager once concerning this, and was told the problem would be taken care of. It never was. I paid over $5000 in one year on my vehicle and the balance only went down by $1000. These people just take the money for the interest. They care less about the customers. Recently I got rid of the car just to get away from Santander Consumer. The auto dealer I spoke with told me he has heard about how bad they are, and they should not be allowed to stay open. I agreed with him completely. I have told lots of people to stay away from them. I cannot even give them a one star at all. Thank goodness I have gotten away from them!

I asked to speak with his supervisor, and LINDA comes on to help me. Linda is extremely helpful. As I finish with Linda, she puts me back into the automated system, I encounter a problem, and end up back with BRANDON. BRANDON proceeds to tell me that Linda has made a mistake by believing me and that I am not who I say I am. He says several times, “Good for you, you got over. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone! 2 years ago I had no choice than to go with this bank to approve me to get a vehicle. So for the past 2 1/2 years I have a car payment of 329.00 that I have never missed a payment and have been on time since. Recently I had got some really bad hail damage on my car. The damage was so bad it was marked as total loss because the damage would cost more than what my car is worth. So long story short I owe 11,000 on my car and my insurance is paying my loan 5,000. In order to keep my vehicle I have to pay this place 6,000 up front by the end of this month or they will take my vehicle. What kind of inconsiderate company would do that to a loyal, single mother? Santander will! I spoke with manager as well as a supervisor and they could not accommodate or even think of helping out their customers. If anyone is thinking of getting a loan with Santander please look elsewhere!

I’ve been paying and it seems like every time I make a payment the amount goes up. When I call customer service it’s always some incompetent person that answers the phone and doesn’t know anything. They always say they will have someone call me back to answer my questions about the loan and very clearly shady billing practices but no call backs at all.

I have all the original paperwork when I signed my agreement and have read the contract in full and they are not honoring the contract agreement. A lot of my payments don’t go towards the principal at all. They put the full amounts towards the interest. When I call to get answers as to why this is happening I’m always told they aren’t sure and will have someone call me back or just hang up in my face. I’m getting quite fed up w/ this shady company. At this point I’m ready to take them to court.

Ok, to start - this entire deal was my fault. My loan was sold to Santander by Toyota Financial and I had no idea, I disregarded phone calls and emails - so it's my fault that I didn't know. To make a long story short I unknowingly fell 86 days behind on my payment. At about 11:30 PM a tow truck showed up at my house and took my truck. I was devastated. It was on a Friday night so everything was closed on the weekend, so I had plenty of time to think about my vehicle being gone. I read the reviews and thought the ABSOLUTE worse. I called Monday morning and was in touch with Santander Reinstatement team. They were straightforward and to the point. They told me we need "X" amount for you to get your vehicle back.

It had to be off a debit card or Western Union Wire - It was basically my overdue payments. They told me they would help me out and defer 2 payments - which I gladly accepted and it dropped the amount owed considerably. (I thought that was awesome.) I paid the amount over the phone and they sent the release to the towing company. The towing company couldn't release the vehicle until Wednesday because of their hours of operation, but I showed up early that morning and got it - no problem.

OK THIS IS IMPORTANT - I was told that all of the transactions for repo were computer generated through Santander. If you don't call them ASAP and try and straighten things out there's a GREAT chance your vehicle is going to auction - which is **. I received ZERO notice of sale that I thought was required by law - I was told that my truck was headed to an auction in Dallas on Wednesday. THEY DO NO MESS AROUND - Santander was actually really good working with me, but I had the money to cover my payments, not sure what would have happened if I didn't - so I don't guess I felt their full wrath. To be honest the people I spoke with at Santander were extremely nice and seemed to genuinely want me to get my vehicle back.

I'm currently waiting on Toyota Financial to recover the 4 months of payments that I sent them that obviously landed in a vacuum somewhere haha! Just wanted to share my experience - losing your vehicle sucks man, especially when it's a 46K truck - and to have the towing company come to my house and take it, it just made me more angry - especially after I asked if I could back it out of the garage and they said "No this truck is our property now." That stung. Lesson learned - always answer phone calls/mail and stuff - although it would have been nice to get a certified letter or something so I'd known for sure.

I wasn't in a good situation when I first purchased my car and Santander was the only company that would finance me. I needed a car so I went with it. I paid every payment on time and in full for just over 4 years. I had an accident (that was not my fault) in January 2018. My insurance determined it was totaled and they paid out the price of the damages. I had gap coverage as well to cover the rest. They took 4 months to finally pay out. Meanwhile, Santander started charging me payments again, without telling me. I found out when I checked my credit report. So I called them and was told we are waiting for gap to pay out so we can't do anything until then. Cool. Only apparently it wasn't cool. It took gap 4 months to pay out and Santander... was charging me payments, late payments, and interest the whole time. Without telling me gap wouldn't cover any overdue payments. I spoke with them last week and this is when I found that out.

I was told the total amount I owed was $486.73. I could make payments of $128 to catch up the 4 missed payments and that would be it. They called me again today and the total is now $562.15 but they swear I was told that same total last week. I wrote it down while I was on the phone and that was NOT the total. Then they tried telling me I'm accruing interest every day since February when they received my last payment. I was never told anything like that. The supervisor is reviewing my call from last week and they will get back to me in 3-5 business days. Then she hung up on us. We are willing to pay off the $486, but if they try to charge us more... I'm going to go off. They are completely unethical in their practices and should be out of business. I will walk before I ever finance through them again. Horrible.

And I get a different reason as to why we have yet to receive our title each time I call. The last time I called which was three weeks ago, I spoke to a Manager in the Title Department. He explained that for some reason the title got held up in their system and he was ordering and sending out a new title. He completely deescalated the situation and advised me that I would have the title in hand in about two weeks. I got off the phone with a feeling of accomplishment.

We were FINALLY about to receive our title. Well, it’s been three weeks (decided to give it another week) and I have yet to receive it. Needless to say, I’m fed up with Santander. I'm very disappointed in the service that I've received with Santander Consumer USA. I had an auto loan through Alphera Financial Services that ended up getting transferred over to Santander Consumer USA. I never had a problem once with Alphera Financial Service and now I've had nothing but problems with Santander Consumer USA. During the transfer, Santander did not put my name on the auto loan along with my husband like they should have. I'm the one who pays the auto loan payment every month from my account also, but they wouldn't help with getting any of that figured out. Then, when we went to go sell our vehicle, I tried to obtain payoff information and payoff procedure information but they gave me a hard time. One of the representatives on the phone even hung up on me and was extremely rude. When I called in to Santander over these issues I received terrible service and a rude representatives to speak to.

Also, nearly all of their representatives on the phone were hard to understand, they didn't speak proper english, and were unable to give me exact answers due to their lack of experience. My husband even had the same issues when he had to call. Santander also has a very limited amount of locations so none of this could be taken care of directly in person. When the buyer of our vehicle wanted to pay off the loan and buy our Tahoe, Santander Consumer USA stated that they do not do money transfers between accounts. The only way that the buyer could pay the car off and buy it was by taking out a cashier's check and mailing it to Santander Consumer USA.

With that said, we then had to hand over the Tahoe to the buyers that day and hope that the check went through without any issues. That made us very uncomfortable given all of the problems that we've already had with Santander, and that their way of doing things forced us to trust buyers with a vehicle that wasn't officially paid off yet. Santander needs to have better options for payoff, instead of snail mail, such as wire transfer that can be verified over the phone like most banks and credit unions do. Then, after my husband verified that the payoff went through with Santander Consumer USA, they sent us out another bill for the vehicle that we had already paid off. I'm never using this company again, nor do I recommend them to anyone else. Awful service all around.

I purchased a 2011 Ford Edge Ltd on Nov, 23, 2013 and it was about 21k. My credit wasn't great but it wasn't horrible, I was in the high 600's and they're charging me just shy of 19% interest. I've been making payments of $610.00/mo for 5 years now and I still owe $17,000; my car is now only worth 9-10k max. I'm now on disability and I can't afford to pay the difference to get rid of it. Most car loans allow you a 10 day grace period for payments, not Santander. I'm also charged $31/mo for late fees if I'm one day late and the interest is 90% of my payment. To date, I've paid $37,820 for the car and still have 2 years to go. So, I've already paid $16,000 over the original price and to trade it in I have to pay off the 8k difference. I find this to be so disgusting. To take advantage of people who have not a bad credit score but, not a perfect score either, should be illegal.

I get it, not everyone has perfect credit and they're a higher risk but, if all of their previous car loans were paid in full and all payments were on time and their credit score is in the mid to upper 600's, 19% interest on top of all the fees they charge you; did I mention I also get charged to make a payment? Not even making a payment is free. It's robbery!!! I'll never do business with Santander again and if you're 1 day late they call you 4-5 times a day, every day, and harass you. So my 21K vehicle will cost me a total of $45,820. If that's not robbing people blind and taking advantage of people I don't know what is. Santander's business model and customer service suck.

I had my previous car loan through Capital One and when I lost my job in 2009, they worked with me to keep my payments current, they stopped charging me late fees and they refunded all of my previous late fees. They went above and beyond to help me keep up my payments and waived other fees so my loan wouldn't end up being more than when I purchased it. Santander doesn't give a damn, they refuse to waive anything or help their customers in any way, they just keep piling on fees to the loan balance so you never get out from being upside down. No one should EVER have to pay MORE THAN DOUBLE the price of a vehicle. How is this even legal???

This is bad loan practice, besides every agent told me a different amount, how does that happen, this company does not care about what the consumer says or does, they just do not care, all they care about is money. Do not use Santander Consumer for any loans, or any bank dealings. They are not to be trusted, and are rude, and lie.

My husband and I’s account was transferred to Santander from Alphera just recently on our auto loan. Coincidentally, we traded in the truck right when the switch happened. I figured there may be a few hiccups along the way, but never would I have imagined people who honestly don’t care at all. We had payments automatically taken out by a third party that we have never had problems with. Since Alphera was sold out, it was never communicated to the third party that the truck had been paid off, so payments kept getting drafted out of our account after the fact. I called the third party and took care of that but they had already sent the money totaling $805 to Santander in the form of a paper check so they couldn’t cancel it because it had already been cashed.

I have been on the phone with Santander multiple times a week trying to figure out what I need to do to get my $ back. What I don’t understand is why I can never talk to the same person twice. Every time I call them I have to explain my situation, then they tell me the same thing & refer me to a supervisor who says the same things as well. First I had to send in faxes of our bank account to prove it came out and now they’re saying it could take 8-12 weeks to get our money back. I’m not saying finances can’t be tricky, BUT I know it’s not that hard to see they have our money and we don’t even have that truck anymore.

My biggest complaint is they don’t seem to care, at all. $805 is a lot of money when you have a mortgage, other vehicle payments and children. I doubt any of them would appreciate that much being taken out of their account and someone saying you might can have it back... and if you do, it’ll be 2 or 3 months. I need my money back, they have it, and seem to have an issue with giving it back. They need to get the stuff together. I also keep hearing, “our account team has reviewed your account and cannot give us any information about $805, yet” so when I ask to speak with someone from accounting, I can’t because customer service is the only ones with phones. I’m just really tired of getting the runaround when I just want the money back that’s mine in the first place.

I purchased a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta (VIN# 3VWRM71K39M098551) from 404 Automotive Group in April of 2016. The vehicle was financed through Santander Consumer USA, thus a lien was placed on the car. I paid the remaining balance to Santander in April of 2018. As stated on the Ga.gov website (https://dor.georgia.gov/how-release-lien-and-security-interest-title) I was expecting the title after 5 days of processing the final payment. Santander sent me a release of lien notification (without the title) that stated I needed to take it to DMV for the title. The DMV informed me that I need the physical title from Santander, however when the DMV looked into their database they could see that the title was not printed by the dealership and thus not sent to Santander with the original paperwork that was created in April of 2016.

So the DMV suggested that I go to the dealership to see why the delay. So I traveled to the location of the dealership (2727 Paces Ferry Rd SE # 750 Atlanta, GA 30339-4053) and to my surprise, there was another business occupying the space and the receptionist there said they had not been there for over a year. I tried to access 404 Automotive website (http://www.404automotivegroup.com), however it does not work. I tried calling their phone number, but the phone number goes directly to voicemail. I left numerous messages and called at various times with no success. It is obvious they are out of business.

I contacted Santander and they stated they are working with the Secretary of State to try and get the title. However, there are a few things that still does not seem right. The dealer should have sent the title and paperwork two years ago (https://dor.georgia.gov/licensed-motor-vehicle-dealer-responsibilities), since they had not send it... I now realize I was paying for a car that was not technically owned (by lien) by Santander since they never received the paperwork which by law, as I understand it should have been submitted within 30 days of purchase. Two years later, after paying for the car and the remaining balance, I now understand Santander never received all the paperwork, so they could not send the title after five days of receiving the final payment (https://dor.georgia.gov/licensed-motor-vehicle-dealer-responsibilities).

I feel this is more than a mistake but fraudulent activity on the part of Santander since for over 2 years they never had all the paperwork which included the title. My current situation is that I have purchased a vehicle, financed the vehicle through Santander, paid consistently over two years, paid the remaining balance for the vehicle and the result: I do not have a title indicating ownership. Any help in this regard will be greatly appreciated.

I got a car loan. My credit was not good at the time so I ended up with Santander with their 25% interest. Though the payment was high I was having little trouble paying for the car until I got a cancer diagnosis and had to pay bills associated with that. I called Santander and they did give me an extension (moving that months payment to the end of the loan therefore extending time to maturity). This worked for the months that I needed the extra money to be able to get my treatments. Then I decided since my payments had been on time and my credit score had gone up that I would refinance so to get my payments down as the cancer was taking a real financial toll.

I applied to my bank for a loan. They said that I qualified for the loan but unfortunately not for the car I had as I owed more than the car was worth and did from the beginning of my loan. So I went back to Santander to see if they would refinance for me or modify the existing loan to allow me to pay it off. They could not do that and so I fell behind by one payment and had a discussion with them about whether they would repossess the vehicle and I was told as long as I am making at least a partial payment each month that they would work with me to keep that from happening and that if they found it necessary to do so that they would notify me ahead of time. This was a lie because little short of a month later they came without notice and took the car leaving me no way to get to the cancer center.

Called them again and asked if there was any way they could redo the loan or modify it so I could continue to pay it off. I was told no but I could reinstate the loan and if I made the next two payments then the loan would reach maturity then they could look into doing some kind of modification for me. No guarantee and they wanted more money to get it back then I was able to pay as they very well knew. So on top of having cancer I have lost my transportation to get to the treatment center and the stress has caused all kinds of problems with my blood pressure and heart condition.

This company is Definitely a predatory lender. The parent company Banco Santander who is out of Spain Holds Santander Consumer USA Holdings Incorporated who is in turn the parent company for Santander Bank and Santander Consumer USA along with other companies it is now picking up including RoadLoans.com and Chrysler Capital. My final payment did not auto withdraw on the normal date, so a day later I paid via their QuickPay (via Western Union, and it costs extra) - thinking maybe I took off my autopay leading up to my final month. The day AFTER I paid (so 2 days late) my auto pay came out, leaving me to have double paid for this final month. Seeing as how it was my final payment, I do not want to double pay. It took several minutes and several people to even SEE I had made 2 payments. They were adamant they could only see 1. Once I got a manager, they saw my 2 payments, and said I would be reimbursed 60 days after my lease was up.

I explained I was now out over $600, and reimbursement in 3 months was not a possibility. After some time, they let me know they could reimburse me in about 5 business days... which they did, and that part turned out fine... Thank you for that. However... 2 weeks later, my account online says delinquent and past due, showing NEITHER payment. If I delve in, I can see the 2 payments I made, and the reimbursement.

The customer service rep kept saying there was no payment. After a few holds, she was able to say a manager could see my payment made (the Western Union online payment) but it hasn't posted yet. I asked when it would, as it has been 2 weeks. She said "I cannot answer that, but all I can tell you is it hasn't posted." Again I stressed the urgency of needing to know this information. She again said "I cannot answer that. Would you like me to ask the accounting department?" YES! YES I WOULD! So, the question is in for me, and really I'll have to call back in a few days and probably do this again. I will be taking my payoff to a credit union and taking over the payments with anyone else.

I have made 71 payments to Santander, I called them last week to go over my account with a representative and she told me that I had 70 payments to go to pay the balance off. I have already paid more than twice the original amount of the car (with the higher interest rate that was expected). But to tell me I have 70 payments left on a car that is now 12 years old and holds less than a $4000 Blue Book value is ridiculous. I realize that every payment has not been on time, nor have most of my payments been more than the minimum payment. But to tell me over the phone that my first 3 years of payments was going towards interest only and I have 70 payments to go...

I just cannot allow this situation to affect my health the way it is starting to. To think that Santander was not my only option for financing at the time but the dealer spoke of them like they were one of the best options, makes me never want to do business with CarMax again. Last year I got a loan through Up2Drive for a 2015 car, for which I paid $10,000 down with a $8500 financed balance, at 3.5% interest rate. Up2Drive is a subsidiary of BMW Bank of America, a highly rated auto financing company. This is our third loan through them, and we have been very successful and happy with their service. Then suddenly, with no advance notice, in April 2018, after almost a year of perfect payment history on this loan, we received an email from Up2Drive telling us that our loan has been sold to Santander. We receive no written documentation of the sale, and no assurance that our interest-rate wouldn't change.

I tried contacting Santander, and they are not willing to discuss anything over the phone. Their website is not operational ("database error"), and they could give me no email address for further communication. They in particular would not confirm that our interest rate is not changing, the balance transferred to them, or the loan payoff amount (which would be a definite giveaway if the interest rate had changed). I did some research and discovered that Santander has a horrible reputation in the industry, and are not even accredited through Consumer Affairs. All Up2Drive will tell me is that this was "a business decision", and that all Up2Drive loans have been sold to Santander. I want to refinance this loan through my local bank, but Santander will not discuss refinancing or any other details of my loan. They say I can write a letter to them.

Santander's reputation is already the lowest possible one-star rating with Consumer Affairs. I would never voluntarily do business with this company and I had a choice. Unfortunately, BMW Bank of America is not giving me a choice. They say there's nothing I can do to reverse the sale. I can't believe this is legal in America, especially given that of detailed review of my contract with Up2Drive shows nothing about them being permitted to sell my loan to a third-party.

We paying for a car because we was a co-signer. We need to gather together and file a law sued we paying 25.99 % interest a day. That's ridiculous.

Updated on 04/06/2018: After talking to a Santander representative today I found out that in order to pay your bill off on time not before time you must pay two payments, which was never told to us or should I say my mother-in-law who originally took out the loan but has died since then which wouldn't make sense. If you having credit issues how would you be able to pay two payments and they know that so they prey on bad credit. That's like abusing the disabled. There have to be a stop because every day you're gaining interest and you're going to continue to gain it until you pay for it which is never and if you get behind it's going to hurt you even more. This is a loan we will never stop paying for. I don't know if we can get a couple of people together to form a lawsuit against this company. It is a legalized loan shark. Even if we can't, I won't stop until I get some type of legal Justice.

I had a car loan with Santander Consumer USA, I fell and broke my back in July of 2016. I called Santander and asked for a deferment on my account because I was unable to work at the time. I was told they don't do deferments and to just pay what I could when I could and keep them informed of my situation. I fell behind by three months. In August I received a letter from them stating that if I didn't get my payments caught up by the end of the month they would repo my car. I paid them immediately and I thought all was well at that time. I fell behind by three months and again in February of 2017 I was threatened with repo, I made arrangements to get caught up since I was just getting back to work at that time. I got caught up and in March was threaten with repo again and I was ahead on my payments at this time.

I ended up getting an attorney, went through mediation with their attorney who was not happy to see I had legal representation with me. It was agreed that as long as I made my payments on time no action would be placed against me. I learned this year that they put me as a charge off on my credit report and are still reporting that I owe over $6800 on my car even after I traded it in and the dealership paid it off. This should not be on my credit report but I am told that once they place it on there it can not be removed unless they choose to remove it. I contacted Santander and was told they will not remove it. Worst company to work with and I highly recommend that NO ONE use them.

In the end they want us to pay more than double of what the car is worth. This company should be sued for stealing from people. They target low income and low credit scores.

They referred me to Chrysler Capital. No one I spoke with could give two rats' **. They are the legal owner of the car and it's about to be auctioned off with the proceeds going to the tow company. Turns out they didn't file the paperwork with the DMW to release us from liability. Good thing we have a lawyer on retainer. DO NOT consider leasing any Chrysler car. I tried to make a payment ahead a month and they said I couldn’t do that, oh well my fault. I get the bill for the next month and I pay via phone and it stayed my balance and they will not credit me for the current month! How??? I have the freaking bill!!! I called and you never talk to anyone from the US, it’s always a foreign person which I have no problem with foreigners but they always act like you’re dumb and I ask to talk to a supervisor and they said they made the request for the account to be paid for the month but I said, "How can you request it when I have the freaking bill and I paid it???"

He had no answers but said I can fax him the bill for their records and I said I’m not doing that and I said, "You guys should have record of you sending me the bill" and he said they do!!! Like, "Are you for real?" He admitted they sent the bill and is still not crediting me. Then I asked to transfer me to this “finance department” and he said he couldn’t. I asked why and he said they can only “send” requests. I’m like, "There is not a phone in that office?" He said no. I’m like, "Do you use pigeon messaging? A telegraph?" He didn’t have any words. I filed a huge complaint with the BBB and I just saw they are not affiliated with them. Hmmmm wonder why. It’s just wrong and they want you to worry about finances and it’s so wrong. I’m sick about this.

They stated they couldn't give me my payoff amount because it takes 3-4 weeks for my "account information" to register on their system. Note that I "started accruing interest on my account" the day I signed my auto loan contract; which really means that they've created this long wait period so that they can make you pay more interest and get more money out of you... So instead of paying interest on 10 days, I now have to pay interest on 30+ days. This how they make their money. STAY AWAY FROM THIS FINANCING COMPANY.

    Reviewed March 23, 2018

I’m a local business owner in New York, NY (Tribeca, since 2004) who recently has had 2 major mistakes with the Santander Bank at this location. First Issue:

In October of 2017, I received an unexpected statement in the mail stating that I had to pay 18 percent interest on a $10,000 loan that I never took out. I did not understand why I received this statement and thought, certainly it was in error. During the first week of November, 2017 I visited the 336 Broadway branch of Santander with the statement and asked for an explanation. After 30-40 minutes of discussing the matter with two bank representatives they uncovered their deception.

What we uncovered is the following: Sometime in September/October, I visited the 336 Broadway Santander branch and asked for a $10,000 withdrawal from my business checking account to pay a contractor for my business’ relocation within the community. According to the two branch employees, at the time of my $10,000 withdrawal the banker withdrew $10,000 from the overdraft protection account as opposed to my business checking account/loan account that actually had over $40,000 in it. Why she would do that I have absolutely no idea especially since I had money available in my business loan account. I didn’t even know that a person could withdraw from their overdraft protection, when they had cash on hand within my loan account. Of course I had to argue with them to remove any late fee and revert all the transactions that were done to avoid the 18 percent interest-rate.

So that problem is taken care of thankfully however I’ve recently learned of a bigger issue. Second issue: In May of 2017 I saw a marketing poster on the Santander Bank window located at 336 Broadway, NY, NY 10013 that advertised a small business loan for five years for a fee of prime interest plus one percent. At that time it was the prime rate was 4% (so plus one would be 5%). My father/business partner and I met with **, one of the business bankers at the above-mentioned location. Mr. ** seemed knowledgeable about the loan and honest. We agreed that these terms seemed favorable, so ** provided us with a list of the documentation that we would need to provide. Within a few weeks we were approved for $57,000 that we could use for our business relocation needs.

Just a few weeks after that I walked to the same Santander branch to remove more money to pay a contractor and asked a few questions from **, a banker that had replaced Mr.**, my original loan officer. Mr. ** then explain to me that after the very first year of the loan my interest rate would jump from 5 percent to 10 percent. I was flabbergasted. I told him that Mr. **, my original loan officer didn’t explain any of this to us and we are in complete shock. We would’ve never continued with the loan had we known about this prior. It's important to note here the deceptive sales practice of Santander and Mr. **. During closing time Mr. ** took all the documents that we were required to provide and explained the details of the loan verbally as my father and I both had trouble understanding it.

He assured us that the contract/documentation that we should have read over carefully was just technical language like the legal jargon that often accompanies new products or software that the general public rarely reads. Instead Mr. ** pressed us to focus on what he called “the important parts” like the amount ($57,000) and the interest rate (5%) and never once did he say that the interest rate would change after the first year. Upon hearing this I immediately thought, this is just like a subprime mortgage scam. They are making a loan to me that the bank knows I could never possibly repay.

Since this date I’ve contacted **, ** and ** (the third banker since **’s termination) at Santander Bank multiple times to try and dispute this matter and request that they waive the 10% interest rate and maintain a 5% rate per the terms that were explained to us. I am not looking for anything for free. I just want the bank to honor the loan that they explained we were receiving. Naturally the bank does not want to honor the verbal outline of the loan, a 5% interest on a $57,000 loan, even though they would still be making money on the arrangement.

I really think someone need to put a stop to Santander for just taking people money and trying to keep people in their loans even after they have paid the amount of the car off but instead they try to find any and everything to build up the interest on the loan. They make it hard to go and get it refinanced with a lower interest rate. See what they don't tell you when you pay your car note is that most of your money goes to the interest then your car loan. The payment was $800+ before he was deployed. After he was active, they had to reduce that, and he has been paying $627 a month for over a year. The payment has been automatically taken out of his bank account for 2 years now.

Since he is back home, they began raising the payment again. I told him to go to our credit union to get a refi. When he did, he found out that he had NO CREDIT established because apparently, Santander HAS NOT BEEN REPORTING IT LIKE THEY STATE ON THEIR WEBSITE. While my son was at the bank, they had him call Santander and ask what was going on. They wouldn't tell him anything and said he would have to send a DISPUTE LETTER BY MAIL! This is how we treat our military? Their website says they report payments to ALL 3 credit bureaus every 30 days.

I never received a title or any other communication since final payment. I have been watching the mail every day for the title to come in as I expected it would be a few months. I am so disappointed that they say they sent it and yet I never received it and now I have to pay if I want it. You would think Santander would not be so cut and dried. Meaning that after 60 days they just close your account and have nothing more to do with you. They do not bother to send a notification or payoff, title or anything other than if you did not get title, sucks to be you.

I sent a money order in for payment back on October 20th of 2016. Early November I received a call from Santander saying I was late, and that I needed to pay now. I assured them I had already paid and to check their records, which the rep did and found nothing. I immediately called Western Union which is the money order I mailed in and they told me it had been cashed in October 31st 2016. I was also told if I wanted to investigate I had to pay $14, which I did. Weeks later I received a photocopy of my money order, with pay to the order of “Drive” on the front of it and on the back a stamp from Chase bank with an account number. I called Chase who said they couldn’t give out account information over the phone so I called Santander. The rep told me Drive is one of their subsidiary companies and that the Chase account number is indeed theirs (wrong move).

I immediately said, "Well someone wrote, altered my money order, wrote Drive in pen and then deposited it into the subsidiary's account. My credit score took a hit. Late payments accrued all because of your company." They ensured me no one from their would do such a thing and that someone from the Kroger supermarket in Suwanee, GA must of done it. Only problem is their company is located in Texas so how would anyone from Georgia know to write that and then why would I go ahead and mail it. I was escalated to the president's office and proceeded to argue for the next few months with them. I emailed the photocopy within weeks of receiving it. And then a random check came in the mail with no letter, no information as to why and I called Santander and the rep told me to deposit it and see if it cashes because they have no record of the check and if it cashes to keep it. That sounded shady so I didn’t.

After I didn’t someone from the office of the president called me and told me I had to cash it or they would automatically apply it to my account. Meanwhile they still couldn’t “locate” my payment but Western Union could. I was then sent a letter threatening of repossession if I didn’t pay $886 immediately. I called and said, "Is it a coincidence that a random check was mailed. I didn’t cash it and now a threatening letter a week later?" She assured me it was and to pay which I didn’t, and nothing happened because they were in the wrong and bluffing.

Months later with nothing resolved I reported them to the credit bureau as fraud and then wrote a demand letter stating I want out of my loan with the title in hand or I will sue, they called and said they would reverse $200 worth of late fees and that they would not let me out. I said not good enough. Someone from the president's office called and said, "I understand your frustration. Maybe Kroger sometimes has a system where it electronically prints it on," I said, "No it was written in pen," which he paused briefly then asked me to email him. After he received it he placed me on hold for 5 minutes and then asked what I wanted. I told him. Another hold and then I was told they would not let me out of the loan and I would have to move forward with my suit.

The letter was written by me and not legally so maybe they thought I was bluffing but I am moving forward with it because check fraud or alteration is a federal offense. My question is has anyone had anything sketchy or alarming happen with their payments and took legal action? If so please contact me and let me know the outcome.

Santander is completely inept in handling payoff checks. In October of 2017, we attempted to pay off the car loan. Rather than crediting the account as a payoff, they took the CERTIFIED BANK CHECK to mean that the money was a refinance and NOT a payoff. Consequently, Santander sent the title to the bank instead of to us. It is now the end of November and we STILL do not have the title to the vehicle. Two weeks ago, the vehicle experienced an electrical fire that resulted in the insurance company totalling it out. The insurance company requires the title in order to complete the claim - the title that is who knows where - Santander certainly doesn't!

We took out a personal loan to pay off the vehicle because we were tired of the poor business practices, rude, uninformed and misleading customer service, and constant back-and-forth overpayments made but not accurately credited or applied in a timely manner. We wish we'd more deeply researched Santander before selecting them as a lender. I hope this review steers someone else away from them. Don't let a 1 or 2% lower interest rate or a lower payment of a few dollars sway you in their favor. It's not worth the continuous aggravation that comes with attempting to deal with a completely inept company - one that should be forbidden to do business in the United States.

We refinanced back in June with a better company with lower interest for our vehicle. Chrysler capital is suppose to refund 2200 for gap ins and warranty to us. We have signed the paperwork for the return and have called several times over months wondering where our money is. It's now end of Nov and we have had so many stories and apparently they have mailed this same check out several times but we have not gotten a thing. The story changes every time we call in. This is our money we have been waiting on for months and they are basically refusing to give it to us and make up lies. I would never do business with this company or suggest anyone to use them.

First mistake I made was 2013 getting a car loan through this bank. After 4 years of making payments my balance was still the same. One of my regrets was ever signing those loan papers. My car 4 years later only worth $400. Decided to stop making payments and have them take the car. I was able to get a brand new car with the help of my family for co-signer. I understand my credit took a huge hit, however I feel much better and free from getting out of this mess. I will never sign any papers with these people. Also have been in contact with the state attorney about the lawsuit! I will suggest to people to be aware of you signing any agreements with these people.

The reason? In 2012 I filed Chapter 13. The car was purchased with every T crossed and I dotted, and yet, with ONE MONTH left in Chapter 13, I suddenly am *more* of a risk, despite 100% timely, above-and-beyond payments. Never EVER EVER use this company! I did because I didn't have a choice. Rest assured the moment I am able to, I will refinance through a reputable company that treats their customers accurately. My fiancè and I financed a vehicle and they were the only option we had at the time given my layoff and having a newborn on the way. Having ** credit thanks in large part to my ex wife running up bills under my information before I could put a stop to it, we were forced to absorb a hefty 21% interest rate. As many other have said, many of the initial payments go almost strictly to interest. Pay $352 and watch 320 go to interest. You get the idea. Now, despite paying on time for a year and having been told that we could refinance if we did so to get a lower rate by the dealership, Santander says "we dont do that". Ok so the salesperson lied. Shocker.

But after over 4 1/2 years of making payments we are still somehow paying for this van. We hit our maturity date and still owed money? How? What are these fees... Why did so much go into just interest and not pay down the principal as it should have. So after it hit maturity date, we then had to re open another loan for the balance and to no surprise the first payments again are solely going to interest again. It's ridiculous with this bank. They've been hit with a Class action in other states... When will NY hit them again for these bully tactics and preying on the unfortunate. They make themselves difficult to contact, they take forever to respond to information requests. Trying to talk to them on the phone is impossible and I'm sure it's by design. I warn everyone I know not to even finance a toaster oven through these people. You will pay 3000% in value for it.

By all I mean your name, your address, mother's maiden name, two security questions with the answers, the checking account number, the savings account number, the credit card number with expirations date and the three digit code which means they have every info on a person but it gets worse. They then send a message to your phone with a code and they will not help you without all the above happening... I guess no one learned from Wells Fargo when they were opening fake accounts. I have had a loan with this company since December 2013. I was making payments and then the amount of payments begin to go up. I started paying $305 a month and if late, then $16.50 late fee was added. I was behind a few times and made up the payments due to being unemployed and couldn’t afford to pay along with other bills. After calling this company (which I no longer do, I send information in writing certified read receipt via the post office) I was treated unprofessionally and after being put on hold for 5 mins for one call, then 30 mins for another I would get hung up on. I then contacted my attorney for information on how to deal with these crooks.

I called this company asking why my payments were doubled one month, then tripled the next month, then through the roof another time when I was paying what I was supposed to pay. I found a copy of my contract and did what my attorney advised me to do. I no longer call this company at all anymore. I send them information certified read receipt via the USPS. That way I can get the information I need to sue these crooks for lying to me. And I pulled my credit reports and on all 3 bureaus they put different amounts that I am supposed to pay. Time for more certified read receipt letters to go out.

Santander has claimed responsibility. However, their computer systems are down now two days in a row and are unable to process my car to be released. I was told my car would be sent to auction if I do not claim it in time within 24 hours. This 24 hours mark has passed. All I need is an email sent to the tow company to release my car and sent to my email as well. They claim they are unable to do so because of computer glitches. I find it hard to believe that the company is unable to send an email.

I have received a dozen apologies but this has been a major hardship on me, as I have had to take two days off work now so I can call once per hour to see if their computer is back up. Everyone has been nice, one lady was condescending. Overall, I am pleased with their attitudes. But you can't take someone's car when they have been making payments due to computer glitches. My car was basically stolen from Santander and they refuse to help me get it released, even when my account is 100% paid. I don't recommend. I have been with this car loan company for three years and I can't believe this has happened. My payments were all on time and this is due to a computer glitch switching dates and deleting payments out of the system.

For the last six months when logging in attempting to pay it says incorrect information. I go to the forgot password/username and attempt to retrieve what they say is incorrect. I got a new job and found out that I am unable to get any assistance (most will take a payment or 2 and put it behind the loan -- nope, not these people). It is now 2017 and have made my 48th payment. When I went onto my account I noticed that I still owed $20,000 (mind you, my car was a $32,000 car, I paid $9,000 down, my loan was for $24,900). I have ALREADY PAID $25,632.29 to this company, so I call and was told that I have been late multiple times and because I have a simple interest loan, my payments have been going to interest. -- OHHH and I have $2,000 in late fees. My car is now valued around $8,200.

The lady that I spoke to said I was confused and didn't understand why I owe so much. I explained to her that I got it however, by the time I get this paid off its going to be another 5 years and I would have paid $60,000 for a loan that was way less than this AND not worth that value. She said she would put a note in to have a manager call me within 72 hours. Yea right! That's what I was told last time.

She even confirmed my payment date was the 24th and for the past 4 years (aside from the 2 months), my payment was made on the 20th **but somehow I am still late**. I reached out to Santander with no prevail to allow me to change my payment amount. They refused. I utilized CAN (Cancer Alliance of Naples) and Bosom Buddies (Breast Cancer Organization) to help me with bills. Upon going over my financials as needed when you apply for help through organizations it was noticed that although I have been paying Santander over $340.00 monthly my loan amount is not budging but a fraction, and in addition the late fees that were being charged were double the amount of the car payment itself. Shortly after they repossessed my car as they would not work with me.

I received outside aid to get my car back and having to pay quite a bit of money. Just last month they showed up in the middle of the night, never reached out to me, they simply repossessed the car again for 2 late payments, as they would not work with me. This time I did not make any attempt to get the vehicle back as I have now learned that this company is worse than a "loan shark" - they take HIGH payments each month where your loan does not go down, charging more than double the amount of the monthly payment as a late fee, not willing to work with their clients.

And in ending, after my car was repossessed they sent immediately to auction, sold it, and are still charging me along with late fees for the original amount of the loan and reporting it to Credit Reporting agencies, so they are now wanting to get paid monthly on a vehicle that I no longer have in my possession which has been sold at auction where they pocketed that money. I honestly feel as though this company needs to be investigated. It showed up on the website that the payment went through their system but when I checked my bank there were no debits from Santander Consumer USA, I called them and they informed me that it took 3 or 4 working days for it to clear my bank, but it was showing that they submitted it.

The following week I checked my bank and there was no debit from Santander Consumer USA. I went on their web page and it showed I had a penalty fee of $25.00 added to my statement that I was thought to have been transacted by them. So I called them and they would not remove the $25.00 fee and I ended up paying the payment with added fee. Now just this date of 7/ 212017 I get a notice in the mail that they are charging me for insurance on the Jeep and we have had it insured from the very 1st day we purchased it, Horne Auto assured us that Santander Consumer USA had been informed of the insurance and that it had complied with the type of insurance that Santander Consumer USA approved.

I hope that the CEO that profits over 3 million dollars along with his colleagues. Millions of dollars from the blood sweat and tears of all the consumers that got caught in their web of lies and high interest rates. THEY ARE ALL MONEY HUNGRY MONGRELS... I've been paying on a vehicle that was financed with Santander for just under 6 years. I bought the car at $19,000 and my payoff after almost 6 years of payments is $17,000. How is that even possible? I got behind on payments, 2 months to be exact, when I was laid off from my job. Once I was back to work I started making payments above the required monthly amount in an effort to get it caught back up. As a matter of fact, I paid a total amount of $2500 in a span of 4 months attempting to take care of the past due amount including all of the ridiculous fees they kept adding onto my account.

I find out that all of my excess payment has not been applied to any part of my past due amount. I have now received a repossession notice on the vehicle. So glad that I've been paying them money for no apparent reason. This company is a complete rip off. They prey on people with less than great credit. They are not a financing company. All they are is a bunch of thieves and they get away with it. Anybody looking to sue this company, I'm all in!!

In September of 2014 I leased a 2014 Dodge Dart through Chrysler Capital. I made my payments, got my service check ups on time, was never late on anything. Fast forward to March 2017, lease is up in 6 months time, my mileage is getting close to the limit (I had about 5000 miles left) and with a 35 miles (one way) drive to work every day, it was time to trade in my car. I shopped around looking for something with great gas mileage and found that none of the Chrysler family of cars were suited to my needs. So started looking at other brands. Found a Kia Niro that gets me on average 50mpg. Fell in love.

At the dealership we called (with the Kia dealer sitting across from me) and spoke to a customer service rep about the end of lease buyout cost for my car with all fees and taxes included. We told her our plan which was to have the Kia dealer cut me a check to pay the payoff on the Dodge and for me to end my lease with them. So the customer service rep gives us the dollar amount and tells us that the check for the buyout will be all I need for the end of lease (and to turn the car in). So I buy the Kia Niro and wait patiently for my check to come through from Kia. A couple weeks later I pick up the check and the same day call the Chrysler Capital End of Lease department.

I am then informed that because my lease was still over 90 days until the contract end, I would be charged an early termination fee (which I was not told when we originally called). I asked how much it would cost and they told me that it all depended on the resale of the car, which I would not find out until it was sold. "Could be a couple thousand dollars" they said. Um, what?! So asked what I needed to do to avoid that scenario. I was told, "Wait until you only have 89 days left on the lease," meaning the car would sit at my house for another 3 months without being used (didn't want to keep on my insurance and risk going over the mileage).

So I did and Kia told me to use the check they gave me to make the monthly payments. On the day when I only had 89 days until my lease was up, I called in to pay the rest off. I was told I couldn't pay the disposition fee until the car was fully inspected and that there could be additional fees after that. I explained that I was told a certain dollar amount back in March and that was the dollar amount I got from Kia. The customer service representative then told me that I was given incorrect information and that I would have to wait until the inspection was complete to know the total of the fees. Naturally I am annoyed by the lack of consistency.

Not to mention that every time I called in, I had to explain my situation over and over again because zero notes were taken on my account even though I specifically was told there would be notes. My inspection letter came through and on it was a charge for $695, $395 for the disposition fee which I was expecting, and $300 for two new tires because the tires that were on the front of the car were not the same brand as the others. Both tires blew in the 2.5 years that I had the car and both times, the tires were not available in any nearby store or garage for an emergency fix.

So now I am putting in a claim to the wear and tear coverage that I have and when I called Chrysler to get the information that I needed, I was told that they could email 2/3 pieces of information to me but had to mail the 3rd. I was given the vaguest of time frames for the delivery of the 3rd. Every single time I have called the company I have dealt with rude and unhelpful people. If there was an ability to give this company zero stars I would. I will never buy another car from them again.

They approved me but came back with terms of $759 a month for 75 months!! This is with fairly good credit compared to what I had 2.5 years ago when I bought my current car with horrid credit. My current loan is HALF the interest rate and more than HALF the payment they want me to pay for this Dodge. When I got approved, I had to call this certain number to prove who I am due to fraud I found on my credit reports. I called 118 times on a Saturday, then another 109 times on Monday before I gave up. I left a scathing review on their website, and not 5 min later I had an email from them.

It’s a week and half later now… and I’m up to 293 phone calls, 37 emails... and asking them to adjust the interest rates and length to get the payment in my range I can afford. However, even their own social media manager said she doesn't have any faith. They will change the terms. In my opinion… this is beyond a horrible company. Stay the hell away from them and Chrysler Consumer, and RoadLoans. They are all the same company. Besides I had a loan from them a few years ago, and it shows I paid my last payment late. I paid it a week early than when it was due and they still show it being 30 days late on what was a perfect rate loan that was paid off early and on time every month. HORRIBLE!!!

From day one I was harassed by the bank manager/account specialist /investment specialist to buy various financial securities. I told him I was not interested in buying anything. I know they want to sell these Investments because they make hefty fees and commissions. The Bank manager/investment adviser even called me up at my home to get me to buy some of his financial investments.

Then one day while I was checking the account on the internet I noticed my interest rate went from 1.25% to .5%. I was never notified of the reduction of Interest. Apparently they had this 1.5% interest rate for only 3 months. I immediately close the account. It was my opinion that Santander Bank made this introductory 1.25% interest rate knowing they only intended to give it for 3 months without so informing me so they can scam people into buying their financial investments!

Needless to say The Office of the President and its staff are just as useless in resolving a serious situation. After I took a vehicle home from a dealership, which will not be addressed here, I started to receive credit denial letters. Naturally these take approximately 30-60 days to arrive. I had an insurance situation with a vehicle and I needed to trade out of my vehicle and into a more insurance friendly vehicle if you will. In June-July 2016 I started going to several dealerships, perhaps 5 in all. My loan application was denied multiple times, and at the time not understanding that dealers "shotgun" your application, I took a hit of nearly 20-30 credit inquiries in that month time period.

Dealership X by some magic, was able to approve my loan after waiting nearly an entire 5-6 hours. I was under the impression the loan was approved because I purchased their warranty and put a $2,200 down payment. Well come September and October 2016 I start to get credit denial letters from Santander Consumer USA, Inc. This raised red flags so I started to question this. I learned quickly that their standard customer service number is not the way to go. In fact, I spoke to a very condescending manager whom talked to me as if my education did not surpass high school.

I continuously wrote letters, same story about "we can't do this, we can't do that." To make a long story very short for this review, on March 1st I finally called in to self surrender my vehicle, I had had enough with not getting anywhere. On March 3rd a manager from The Office of the President left me a voice message, I called back. Naturally they want to know why I want to surrender and I explained the situation and she asked "What changed about your income?" I told her nothing, my income had remained the same, but I was frustrated with how and why the loan was approved when it was denied at least 5 times prior at other dealerships.

That following Monday after I cool off, I recall the surrender. March 24th I call to schedule payments - I cannot schedule payments since the vehicle was scheduled for repossession. I decided to ask if the gentleman had access to what the dealer reported my income to be because it added another red flag when I was asked "What changed about your income?" Lo and behold - income on the application is claimed to have $2000 more per month than I actually make. He gave me the numbers, I wrote them down and an investigation was opened up. This is where it has gotten even more frustrating.

When I call back on Monday 3/27 - conveniently, that same customer service rep is not in. Banking and employment statements showing my actual income were mailed. It took nearly 5 weeks to hear back. 4/28 I am told "after I reviewed these documents [one of the reps I dealt with]" The loan is valid. The income is sufficient for the approval. "I don't know where the amount you claim is reported came from." I advised it came from their own rep, whom spoke to the "dealer relations" department. I feel as if this "dealer relations" department doesn't exist and the final person I dealt with was someone just reviewing documents I submitted weeks ago to falsely determine my loan is valid when in fact, it was denied multiple times prior to being approved at nearly 20% (and I submitted to them copies of the denial letters).

While I do believe the dealer falsified my income, I do hold Santander Consumer USA responsible as I provided all the information that shows the loan never should have been approved. I stressed out of 20+ inquiries, 4 of which were their own, one to be approved? I stated that alone should be a red flag. "Well we don't actually really know why applications are denied." I told him plain and simple "Debt to income as other dealers had denied." I have a vehicle scheduled for a repossession. My credit rating went down the tubes. I have counsel reviewing this. I am curious to know if anyone else has had a similar experience because it seems as if the ratings for this bank are extremely low.

And to reiterate if anyone is asking "Why did you take the loan?" as seems to be Santander's defense, I am arguing the approval. I only took it because I was not looking to pay over $700 per month to insure one vehicle. The dealer advised I can put in a refinance application within a year to get a lower rate. Well, the problem is, with this vehicle, having less than 12,000 miles now and being 10 months old, at best the trade in value is 13,500... the loan amount is nearly 28,000. No bank will offer such a refinance unless I hit the lottery and am able to pay down over 50%.

I just recently learned that my maturity date for our car has been changed by Santander without our knowledge. It went from 5/19/17 to 2/17/18. Who does that when my signed contract is indicating last payment of 5/19/17? I also noticed that a lot of my monthly payments they have received have not been deducted from the balance I owe. I literally just printed my payment history from their own website under my account and the balance does not change and it is showing I still owe them $11,000? They will be hearing from my lawyer really soon. This company should be shut down!!!

I made a short film about the problem showing the problem, dropped off the car and footage file. It still took forever. What they got back, was a vastly improved car, and they wanted twice what it was worth. Will avoid them as possible in the future.

I purchased a 2011 Chevy Cruz sticker value $14,000. I've paid on this vehicle for 2 years and my principal value only decreased $200. I've been paying more than my monthly payments. I had a death in my family which set me back a month. My monthly payments are 391 and I made a payment of 420 which is what I told I owed. The next month comes and I pay my regular 391. I receive my statement that showed I owe 100+ in fees??? HOW? I paid the fee only to see the fees on the next month's statement. REMEMBER THAT I'VE PAID 420 EVERY MONTH WHICH IS EXTRA, WHERE IS MY MONTH GOING?

I call customer service and ask them why is this? The rep advised that a customer service rep has to submit a request for the payment to be submitted towards my principal and late fees. The next month I get my statement and the same thing is shown. SO... I call AGAIN and the representative advises of the same thing! SO WHAT WAS DONE THE FIRST TIME? Then I asked for them to mail me a statement of all my payments and what it was applied to. The rep advised that she can only send it to my email. I still have not received. Then I call again because I received my March statement only to find out basically all my payments that were being made are going to interest. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY AT ALL. THEY ARE THE WORST!

I am paying twenty eight thousand dollars for a vehicle that was worth twelve thousand new. Every time I talk to Santander on the phone they tell me I'm still making interest payments. All of a sudden my payment is showing up in their system. No they're telling me it's going take 30-45 days for the money to be returned to my acct. I will definitely spread the word about this horrible banking. And never will deal with them again.

This company never ceases to amaze me. I paid off my car loan. I mailed the check 1/23. As of 2/24, the check had still not been cashed. I placed a stop payment on the check on the advice of the customer service rep who told me they did not have it. I was trying to close on a loan. We settled it at closing and the closing atty sent them a check on my behalf. Of course, they cashed my check and the check the atty sent. Thank God I placed the stop payment. Then they call me when my check was stopped asking how I was going to take care of it.

After it was all said and done, they owed me $405. I just got a freaking Visa Prepaid card in the mail for the amount. To say I am beyond pissed off right now is an understatement. And, they still show I owe $88 on my credit report. And they say they mailed my title to the attorney's office, who never received. I will never, ever do business with them again. If anyone tries to offer me a loan through them I will politely tell them to stick it up their butt.

I paid half of my monthly payment and sent a letter with the payment asking if I could split my monthly payments in half. I received no response, however, they cashed my check. A few days later, they repossessed my car.

I called and informed them that I had sent in a letter with my payment... the customer service rep said where the payments get mailed, has nothing to do with them so they won't get the correspondences attached to payments. Rep also said my payments for December and January were returned. I was not aware of this, nor did they contact me about this. I then sent in a letter asking them to reconsider returning my car. Still no response. I've now contacted them through mail 3 times and have not received a response. I was trying to make good on my loan and that's why I sent in a letter with my payment requesting that the monthly payment be split in two. They do not care about their customers! I filed a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Hopefully they can get answers from Santander.

Some females from used to say things that weren't even related to business... No more talking good about anybody... What they are is what they are.

When I want to make an additional payment against the principal is has always been a nightmare. I call Santander Consumer USA and tell I want to do an additional payment against the principal. Santander accepts the transaction, asks to stop the auto-pay, confirms that payment is set against the principal, and tells this will take about 3 business days to be updated in the system. After that you can set up again the auto-pay. So far so good. Three business days after and nothing has been done and the nightmare begins. It just delays your next payment but it is not set against the principal. I call again and then another person says they will ask to put against the principal. In the meantime I cannot put it back on auto-pay as my next payment due date has not been updated correctly.

This happened to me almost every time I did an additional payment, which means Santander people and/or systems are not trained or ready to perform this task efficiently. I have to enter the website every three business days to see if what they tell you has actually happened, which most the times has not been done properly, and you have to re-start the process all over again. Call again, explain the issue to another assistant, and again wait for three business days. Even when you escalate to a coordinator, s/he tells will be personally followed up and they will call you in a certain date to confirm the transaction, but they never do. They simply ignore you (and your money!).

In short, I will definitely never do business with Santander Consumer USA again. Very unprofessional and immature, and not customer oriented. And, by the way, since the value does not go against the principal you end up paying more interests for those days that system was not updated due to their mistakes and since you have not set up as auto-pay you have to pay the monthly installment by phone, and also ending up paying their service fee of US$10.95 for the phone payment. If you do not pay and wait for their system to be updated, it can appear as "past due" for that month, even though you can't do anything about solving their internal issue. So, if you have a choice follow my advice: choose another company to do business with.

So, long story short, they serviced me with an illegal vehicle loan. They "claim" they tried to get hold of me to make payments on the car - they even went as far to say they had some letter certified and mailed. Guess what? Never happened. They forged my signature on paperwork just to come after me. Repo companies started calling constantly and harassing me, my family, friends, and neighbors. Absolutely despicable. I was beyond pissed and I knew I was in for a fight, so I retained an attorney and with my mom's advice (she knows a lot about consumer protection laws) I dug my feet in and fought back. It was very personal with them. They were trying to ruin my credit (which they did for a short period of time) and ruin my life. I wasn't laying down for these scumbags.

My case went to court (state and federal). These guys couldn't even produce any relevant paperwork to their claim that I owed them money. They tried stall tactics in court and I even received more threats from numerous fly by night collection companies. The judges saw right through all their b.s. After some back and forth, I ended up winning my case and keeping my car. I felt so good and vindicated because they're a multi-billion dollar bank with a team of lawyers and they got beat by some punk kid and his mom.

One of the stipulations in the paperwork when the case was closed was that I was to never try to get another loan serviced with Santander for as long as I live and in return they had to delete all of the negatives on my credit reports, they could not make any future marks on my credit reports and could never try contacting me ever again. This case has been settled for about 5 years now. Guess what? I just went to look over my credit reports, which I do religiously now and wouldn't you know that Santander Consumer USA has an inquiry on one of my reports! Man oh man. It's going to feel good to sue these ** and take some of their money for a change.

My advice to everyone who has dealt with these dirtbags is to not give up! Get a decent lawyer who knows their consumer protection laws, dig your heels in. Don't let them ruin your life! These billion dollar companies can seem and be very intimidating and I promise you that they are expecting you to fold and cower to their demands. They're not used to good, honest people putting up a fight and taking it to the trenches. If enough of us stand up and start putting some chinks in their armor, I promise you they will fall. Just stay the course and be patient. It's one of the best things I ever did. Good luck to you all and God Bless.

P.s. - If you're ever contacted via telephone by the "bank," a repossession company, or someone else claiming they are a collections agency make sure you get some type of recording of the conversation you have with them, save voicemails, do whatever you can to prove that you are being harassed. It becomes big in court and no judge or jury is going to put up with it. On top of that, it's illegal and if you're aggressive enough you will receive some money for your troubles. I say this because not everyone knows the law(s) and, again, these huge corporations are banking on you being ignorant. Hope this helps some of you.

There is nothing unusual about this - every online bank has this process of identity verification. What was unusual is that every question presented to me was not about any of my activity, i.e. all choices were a total miss. Having failed in that, bank asked me to upload pics of my identification. I uploaded US Passport and my state driver license. In a couple of days I received a notice of a denied application based on inability of validating my identity.
