I have had a car loan with them close to a year and my loan amount is not going down. I hate this company, the interest rate is high and the way it’s going I will never get finished paying for this car. I will be refinancing with someone else. Stay away from this company by all means necessary.

They are practicing unfair practices! I have a car loan with them and unfortunately a 18 totalled my truck leaving me injured without transportation. The insurance company paid them 12,000 towards my loan and it left a balance. Why they won't wait till my case settles before expecting payments. Won't let me defer payments until later without them crapping up my credit!! Just so over them. Can't wait to get them out my pocket and off my credit!!!

I am not understanding I was not offered any relief under the class action against Santander Consumer USA, due to their ”upsidedown” high interest loans, high monthly premiums on a mere 2018 Ford Fusion, while applying with Santander Consumer on June 2020. The government is allowing an already sinister company decide who and what loans should be forgiven or cancelled so I’m sure that this company is not going out of their way to adhere to to helping me, as I have been deviously “bilked“ on a high interest loan with a very low income to debt ratio as far as I’m concerned!

My credit score being a low 549 (they refuse to give me my internal score) a very low income monthly government benefit of only 1,040.00, so I’m not understanding how I even obtained this loan originally created by my daughter after the dealership gave her false hopes of an assurance that she was coming in for just this thing, however, explaining to them it being a complete waste of time for everyone involved due to her creditworthiness and income being of great issue also.

Yet Cardinale Volkswagen Salinas continued to barrage her with phone calls, informing her not to worry, they were Cardinale by god, they could do anything! So finally relenting to their pushy promises, she made a visit to this dealership. After all the facts were presented, all the numbers drawn up,, her paid off 2012 Volkswagen Passat offered as a trade in, exchange for a 2018 Ford Fusion that they,, with all its promises pushed at her for a co-signer,, ultimately picked out for her as well. She called me after much coaxing, knowing I would not agree to this. I felt a little put on the spot, but out of respect for my daughter, I just bellowed, “Sure”.

I’m 84 years old with Alzheimer's, and this dealership is at least 60 miles away from me., but they were willing to drive all the way to my house in order to complete the paperwork on this loan. My daughter had given up her one and only vehicle for this loan and when they came down to my house to sign the paperwork, I noticed that I was the only name listed on the contract. After all their hard work and false pretenses, my daughter was squeezed out of this loan completely! Had even given her own car up as a trade in! This loan was pushed at me, much in the same way their promise to get her into a car was. Shady from the start!

Now this dealership had false intentions from go because truthfully? I was in the same boat as she was credit wise, with the same Government benefits. So I don’t know what determined me the better signer for the loan? So this whole deal seemed sinister from the start, and right there and then, I was basically getting papers thrusted at my face, in all their harried rushing with my obvious confusion. So I comfortable was not what I was experiencing in this. I found it difficult to even begin to glance over any of the contract terms, finance fees, length of loan, etc. So I signed away following each paper thrust in my face.

To this day I have payment hardship, can’t meet my bills, unable to refinance an "upside down” loan + income to debt ratio so impossible, that no one will touch me. Santander won’t redo the loan and I cannot make all my bills at this rate! I’m fearful of the remaining 4 years needed to buy this vehicle with all its mechanical needs also. Help!

I purchased my car with Santander Consumer USA in 2018 for $31,000 with a interest rate 18% with payments at $721 on a 72 month loan. As of today October 10, 2023 they are telling me I still owe them $27,000 which means over 5 year. I’ve only paid $4,000.00 in payments and it will be paid off next year 2024. How is it I still owe $27,000 five years later? It’s up for repossession and they still have not came to pick it up. They’re asking me to make a payment and it’s up for repossession. This is crazy. Yes I have some late payment and an extension but $27,000 still owe to this date. That’s mean if I keep it I will be have paid $53,000 for a 2013 Range Rover. That’s insane.

Originally called by collections per a cust svc rep error. After being transferred to a mgr, then exec mgmt, I was transferred to Melissa. If there was anyone more inclined to help a consumer I've never had the pleasure. I was even able to help her understand her position as a consumer as I explained an unrelated matter, whereas I explained to the business owner, "I don't want anything except that another consumer NEVER has to experience what I have at this dealership".

I absolutely admire the candor and empathy from Melissa and her acceptance of the company's responsibility in this situation. I absolutely will rethink my continued relationship with Santander, solely on my interactions with the abovementioned representative. Not everyone is looking for something free just because a business made an error. But the presence of mind to resolve the conflict where it's a win-win for all parties is something I think is almost nonexistent in our culture these days.

When my insurance company issued their payment, Santander posted a lower amount to my account. I called to ask about it and the first time, the woman told me she was looking at a copy of the check and the amount posted was correct.

I called my insurance company, who emailed me a copy of the check in the amount they originally told me, which was more than Santander said it was. I had to call back and then they said it would "update" in 72 hours. Why would a one time $12,000+ payment need to take 72 hours to "update". And it wouldn't have been fixed if I hadn't asked about it. Then, they told me that they would submit the documents to the Gap insurance company. After not hearing anything in 2 weeks, I called back to see what the status was. This time I was told that they don't submit documents for Gap, that I need to do it. No one there knows what they are talking about. They all lie or make up something to appease the caller. Total nightmare! I was originally with Carfinco, here in Canada. I was a little concerned when the company had changed (I was about 3/4 the way through my loan), and had experienced bank screw-ups before upon account transfers, but I gotta say it was seamless. I appreciated also, that I could still prompt Carfinco, and the Santander site came up.

My loan with Carfinco originated before the Covid crisis. When that happened, I was restricted from an additional weekend part-time job I had had, and budgeted on. Carfinco allowed me 3 deferrals at various points, allowing that I paid the interest. Later after my account had transferred and I resumed my second job, a second outbreak had occurred which caused me to lose another pay period. I hesitantly called Santander, and was relieved to get another deferral, same terms. When I could, I began additional payments every couple of weeks which always updated on my account in 24hrs., and was able to catch up closer to my original maturity date.

I am now paid off. My experience with customer has always been pretty good. When I did call in about the loan closure to request they advise the credit bureau to release the security they were a little snappy with me, saying it wouldn't be until 30 days which was fine with me, and seemed to bring down the tone. I suspect the reps get grief from the customers from time to time. Again, the experience was good, and efficient.

Back in January I was looking for a new car due to my old one giving me car issues. I have low credit considering I barely started my credit. But the dealership was able to get me approved by Santander. If only I would have known. This company is horrible and is just money hungry! Earlier this month of April I made my car payment. For some reason I was charged double that is $990 so I called and asked why was I double charged and they pretty much said they couldn’t help me with the payment because it was pending. So they told me to call my bank and dispute one of the payments which I did. My bank disputed a payment of $495 and Santander kept the other $495.. Cool so I thought I had already paid my car payment for the month of April..

Fast forward to today April 28 I look at my bank account and noticed I was charged $495 AGAIN by Santander. I GIVE them a call again and asked why the hell was I charged again when I already made the payment earlier this month. They claimed that one I disputed one of the charges they never received the other payment which is the reason why I was charged today. And I said, "No like you guys did received it because if you didn’t then my Bank would have refunded me $990 and they didn’t because you kept the $495 like you did receive my car payment." And the lady tried to manipulate me to thinking they never received the payment. Sounded fishy and wrong. Felt like they were trying to scam me. So I decided to call my bank and I explained to them how I was double charged earlier this month and how I disputed one of the payments. And also told them how Santander said they never received one of the payments.

The nice lady from my bank Chase looks at my account and confirms I was charged $990 and Also confirmed that Santander DID RECEIVE my payment earlier the month so there is no reason for me to being charged again as of today April 28 so now they had to dispute the charge that they charged me again and now I got to wait for me to be refunded. Thanks a lot Santander. I have bills and rent to pay. Are you freaking kidding me!!

It seems that when one of your bills gets paid to a company w/o an electronic funds transfer account, Santander arranges to have a paper check sent to your biller on your behalf. About 8 mos ago I was advised that my hoa never received my monthly payment for September 2022. This biller was sent a paper check from Santander every month. Upon investigation it was revealed that the check sent on my behalf for my September payment of $550 had been intercepted and fraudulently cashed. I have been fighting to have that $550 returned to my account ever since, as this fraudulent act was in no way my responsibility. I have gotten nowhere

Santander tries to assure its customers that their products are safe, but obviously their online banking system is not, nor do they seem to care to rectify their errors. I am such a disappointed customer, having been with Santander for over 20 years and am sad to say I am seriously considering taking my banking elsewhere.

BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY. THEY PREY ON ANY LESS EXPERIENCED PEOPLE WITH NO REMORSE. Santander Consumer will constantly act like they don't know what a 10 or 15 day pay off letter entails which means more waiting on them getting it right after constant repeating myself to different agents throughout every week since the purchase of initiating a refinance with another institution. I'm disgusted at the way Santander Consumer does business and treats customers. This is not right. They don't deserve 1 star but I have to warn others about this disgusting company.

They want to make sure they are dealing with the right person. OK, provided it. Clear picture.

A week later, I get a call from the dealership indicating the picture of the SS card was not acceptable. It had a the corners cut off - what? Dealership GM looked at it, not a problem. It was the same picture I used during onboarding of new employment. If it's good enough for the government, who issued the card in the first place, it's good enough for Santander. As of this morning, the dealership removed my financing from Santander and placed it with another bank, with a slightly better interest rate. RUN FAST FROM THIS COMPANY! We leased our 2020 Jeep Cherokee Nov. 2019. Our lease is approaching the final month and we decided to exercise the lease buy out option. Dec. 9 2022 we requested the buy out balance and took it to our personal bank for the exceptional rate they were offering us. We were financing an amount less what the payoff was going to be so we called to ask how to handle the proceeds because the bank was sending x amount and we would be sending the remainder ourselves. The representative we spoke with said it would be easy. "We will just use your debit card x amount (well over two thousands dollars). Call back in the next day for the payoff amount reflecting the new balance, we will issue a new payoff statement so your bank can overnight the balance."

WARNING DO NOT EVER DO THIS!!! For 6 days when we called back they claimed their systems were down and could not issue a payoff letter showing the new balance. After 14 calls to get the new pay off balance we are told they can not do that and we have to pay the full amount in one payment and that we would have to go through a process of about two weeks in order to have the money we sent refunded. Our bank no longer trust Chrysler Capital Leasing to send the title (they have heard in the banking community these guys are always trouble). So to get it resolved it will probably be large dollars in attorney fees, but off we go.

I recently turned in a Jeep leased through Chrysler Capital. In the few months preceding the lease end, my online account portal had inaccurate information, and deleted my auto-pay information with no explanation. It had not accurately tracked payments that were made (verified on my bank account) and as a result, I ended up double paying one month's payment.

I called to rectify the situation in June and was told I would be getting a refund for the double payment via a debit card that would come in the mail. I called again in July to check on status and was then informed that I had to produce proof that I had paid twice before they would send me a refund. Not only is it ridiculous that I would have to prove it - they had already verified that I had paid twice on the earlier call. Not to mention it’s horrifying to think that a financial organization doesn’t even trust its own systems to track financial information. And the proof they asked for was absurd. They actually expected me to send them full bank statements. That’s private information and completely irrelevant. I sent them proof of the payments (and only proof of the payments).

I turned the Jeep into the dealership in July. In September, I FINALLY got some correspondence from them. And guess what it was? The final lease vehicle return fee. And a note saying it had been sent to a collections agency! They had never sent me an invoice in the first place, and then send me what is essential an overdue notice. Ridiculous. I mailed in the check, since I don’t trust them with my credit rating for a second. And surprise surprise, they cashed that check in about 5 seconds. But months later, they still owe me money and I have gotten zero response despite multiple calls and letters. The worst. I will never have anything to do with any vehicle that is managed by them. This is every bill, every month!! 4) I had asked for an extension once, and they sent me paperwork that contained the name, address, vehicle, and amount due of another customer in Michigan. When I called and told them, they didn’t care. Fortunately, I ended up not needing the extension, so I didn’t sign any paperwork. 5). Two months later, Chrysler Finance/Santander decided to put remarks on my credit report that cost me 120 points off my credit score.

Chrysler/Santander lied and said I was 120 days delinquent on my lease. That started a ripple effect, credit card companies saw that remark and reduced my credit lines drastically, which cost me even more off my credit score. I went from a score of 720 to 525 in 24 hours. They put their lie in the "remarks" area of the report. However it still showed 0/0/0 for 30/90/120 days past due, and also showed "paid as agreed account closed satisfactorily" along with a green check mark for each month paid on time. It didn't matter there was so much conflicting information and an obvious lie, my credit still suffered. I called the MA attorney general's office who got after them and the remark was removed, but I did not get the 120 points back that I lost from their lies, I got back 41 points so my credit is still stuck in "Poor". I strongly feel that Santander is behind this North Lane company because they don't want to look into the fact that North Lane has been scamming people. I really wish that there was a no stars option because they both are crooks.

In March, had late fees of $190-something and when I made payment, asked that $100 extra I put be applied to late fees. When I went to make my April payment I found that the extra $100 wasn't applied, but they then said I owed $220-something in late fees! They were tacking on stuff and I was never going to get rid of them. I stayed upset and angry after calling them. Thank GOD I was able to refinance with the credit union! In December 2021, my car lease was over. I decided to purchase my car. My new lender for the car loan is Santander Consumer. I had a previous autopayment set up to my previous account when the car was leased. I forgot to take off the autopayment, and accidentally paid twice for my car payment in January 2022. The amounts were $388 and $399. On January 20, 2022, I called Santander to have them send me a check for my overpayment. After a rude man answered the phone, I asked to be transferred to a manager. The manager explained to me that I had three options: use the overpayment toward next month's payment, get a prepaid VISA card sent to me, or fax them proof of payment from my bank so they can send me a check with the overpayment amount. She also mentioned that I have VISA card coming to me from a previous overpayment in November 2021. I did not authorize this nor was I made aware.

I decided to fax the payment proof from Chase bank. I was expecting to receive a check like the manager had stated on the phone. I never received a check. I called Santander to follow up on February 3, 2022 around 10:34 am EST. The representative (CHNE #**) Christopher answered my call. I began to explain my situation to him and was rudely cut off multiple times. I was not able to explain what happened without him cutting me off and telling me that I have a contract which states that any extra payments go toward the principal. I need to know why I was initially given three choices for a repayment on 1/20/22.

Christopher began to interrogate me with questions that he knew the answer to. He did not listen to my story at all. I was unable to communicate with him. He could not help me, and did not want to help me. He showed no empathy towards my situation and should not be working in customer service. I am being told different things by different people. I need some answers and my money back.

I am so disappointed with the treatment Santander has presented me. I asked the Senior Advocate to investigate how my forbearance was presented to me by a Santander representative as I was told my loan would be frozen throughout the forbearance period and any missed payments would be added to the end of the loan and my loan would be extended by that time frame. I was on the call with the Hope Hotline, an organization Santander lists on the payment voucher as well as the call was recorded. It was never communicated to me that the payments were not frozen, but being forgiven and that I was incurring interest the entire time.

Fast forward to the end of my forbearance period, I am only being given the option of paying the lump sum including interest I should not have been incurring on a frozen loan, to either the end of the loan as a one lump sum payment, paying it all now or having the amount plus the interest spread across a new 40 year loan, essentially paying interest on interest. The Senior advocate did confirm that the loan was “paused,” but that it was a miscommunication that I would not be incurring interest. When we speak she hasn’t presented to me any information from the original call that Hope Hotline participated in and instead of helping come up with a mutual solution, she has just continued to push the same agenda that my loan was frozen, but I am still responsible for paying interest on my frozen payments.

All I ask is that Santander stand by the original agreement that my payments were frozen and I should not have accumulated the $6,000 in interest during the time the loan was paused. There is a recording of the conversations and you can review them at any time. I have had to take further action and report Santander to the Better Business Bureau and the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau. Please note, Santander has not actioned either complaint since the phone call Phyllis made reiterating that I was just confused and didn’t understand the terms and it has been a month since the first complaint was filed.

Subsequently, I received notice in December 2020 that Santander USA filed a 30 late notice on my account. I spoke with the Director of Finance at AutoNation and he provided me a letter on their letterhead that due to Covid 19 they had a shortage of staff and thus the final payment was delayed. So after 72 months (6 years of on-time payments), the dealership admits wrongdoing in a document signed by the Director of Finance. I also had my attorney provide a letter that stated that once I conveyed the vehicle to the dealership that I was no longer responsible for the vehicle. Thus, after providing these documents personally to Santander and Experian, and then after hiring Lexington Law to submit our case, Santander has yet to remove the 30 day late.

I'm an investor and my credit is imperative. My next step is to file a lawsuit against Santander USA and I may be able to pursue damages. They are liable and have a duty to acknowledge the auto dealership's admission of providing the late payment and the attorney's statement. I called back after 15 days of not receiving anything. I was told that it would be resent, still nothing. I called again and was told that my previous request was rejected and was told just go to the DMV to get the title. I asked the representative why I was not contacted, she had no answer. She just kept saying that she was sorry. When I was late on a payment when I lost my job, they were blowing my phone up to receive payment. I open the account on-line at Santander website on 11/17/2020 during their promotion time. Santander offered a bonus of $225 for people to open a new Simply Right Checking with qualified activities such as direct deposit and Bonus will be paid in 90 days. Santander did NOT provide promotion code at their website and there was no entry to enter for the promotion code when open the account on-line. After 90 days, and I met their requirements, I called them in the begging of March, 2021 regarding to the bonus which I did not received yet. The representative told me I was supposed to received the Bonus and I had to wait until 3/18/2021. He did not mentioned promotion code.

In the begging of April, 2021, I called them again, The answer was unbelievable. The representative said;" the Bonus was denied because you did not put promotion code." I want to state again that they did not provide promotion code on the website during November 2020 to open the Simply Right Checking account. What's more terrible was he asked you to recall all the details 4 months when you open the bank account on-line to make you feel you made a mistake not to put a promotion code. Didn't Santander know how their website operating system worked? They must know it.

Santander did not keep their promise to give people Bonus. The promotion offer on-line WAS PHONY. Santander bank is a DISHONEST bank! Be careful and stay away! I also would like to say: For those who have a loan with Santander bank should look at your contract carefully in the begging when you apply for the loan, and do not let them play with you because this is a dishonest bank.

A week after buying the car and 3 more times it broke down and I was charged hundreds...2 years later those issues are part of a dangerous recall and Kia is ignoring the fix because I can be part of the lawsuit endangering my life in the process. On March 27th, 2015 I started my car loan with Santander, Each 27th of a month I was charged 287.93$ for my car payment. All my payments paid on time with no late fees/issues. Since I open my bank account (2011), I DIDNT change any of my Banking information. All those years my payments received on time and I didn’t receive any call regarding payment issues from Santander.

On March 18th, 2021, I noticed that on my Santander online profile I have a late fee of 4.93$. I called Santander customer service and I was told that thanks to my payment history they will process a waiver to that fee and will charge the balance as they always did. On March 24th, 2021, I checked again my online profile to make sure the fee waived and noticed that fee again. I called Santander customer service, and I was told that the reason I saw the same amount again was because the manager views my file and waived the fee. I asked the representative what my balance, he replies 98.77$ and I authorized him to charge my account for the last payment, He congratulates me on my final payment and I understand it a done deal and my account is good.

On April 2nd, 2021, I received a call from a Santander representative that told me my car was towed, I asked him why the towing company called him if I paid my car in full, He replies that it's taking time to release their name as a lien holder (up to 30 days) and that’s the reason the towing company called him and not me. The morning after I released my car from the towing company and paid them in full.

On April 16th, 2021, I received an email that my credit score got decreased and when I logged in to my Credit Score account I saw a late fee with my car payment. I called Santander customer service to understand why (If I already authorized to charge my account for 98.77$) they report a late payment to the credit companies. The representative went over my history and told me that he can see that I always paid on time (Even in 2020 that I was unemployed) and there’s no manager in to take my call and to try again during the week.

On April 22nd, 2021 I called Santander and asked for a manager, Nicole answered me and told me as well that my history looks good, and then she transfers me to the executive manager (because she can’t help me with credit reports), I was waiting for 5-10 minutes, then Nicole got to the phone again and tried to push my complaint to another day or to wait 24-48 hours for a call back from them, I insist and asked to keep waiting and speak to executive manager, after 5-10 someone pick up the call and checked my file.. He said that because they (as a loan company) authorize to charge the same amount only (287.93$) and my balance was different from the amount above they couldn’t charge my account and this is why it became a late payment and that he cannot help me with my complaint.

TLDR; If you see Santander on your loan agreement, RUN AWAY! Obviously, if you are here to see how Santander is, then there are plenty of one-star reviews to be had. I've paid my bills on time with no issues and no late payments whatsoever for almost 2 years. Covid Strikes and I still pay the bill for 2 months of having no job, due to quarantine. In March, I called them and explained that I have not had a job due to Covid, and request a deferment of payment until I get my job back. I was cleared into October.

October rolls around, Covid not being any closer to being resolved, and myself still being jobless, with barely enough money to feed my daughter and girlfriend while paying rent. I called and attempted to extend the deferment, and the guy says "No Problem, I can do that for you." I get a call the next day saying that my deferment was denied and I needed to pay them $400 that week (that I do not have and Unemployment was only $323 with $900 rent due in two weeks) or they'd send it to collections. They called me one more time a day later and then never again. I called to inquire if my payments were being deferred, and the "Customer Service Rep" said it was and I was okay until after Dec.

December rolls by, and not a whisper from them. Jan 5th Rolls around and a repo guy pulls my truck out from under me 5 minutes after I get it home and bring my kid some dinner (she was the only one who got to eat that night). I can only guess he followed me home from the store or was waiting at my apartment already. I called Santander in the morning when I discover that the vehicle is missing (After reporting it stolen to the police only to be informed that a vehicle matching mine was repossessed last night).

They said that I needed to Pay $2,500 to them or they would auction it off in ten days. I tried reasoning with them, and all they did was give me the runaround, passing me from service rep to service rep, promising to pass me to managers and an executive. I called again spoke to a rep, and they gave me the same $2,500 payment requirement again. I only had $10.00 to my name. So I had to get a friend to drive me up to pick up my belongings out of the truck, paying him the last $10.00 for gas.

I had important things in there that I need, ID, Prescription Medicine, Credit Cards, My Girlfriends Wallet was in there, with her social security card and my daughter's. There was absolutely no need for them to do this without even attempting to call me first. I personally hope that the owner(s) of Santander get sued en masse and go bankrupt, so they get a taste of what they dish out. If a Collective Lawsuit is EVER started against these crooks, I want in on it. If you made it to the bottom of this, learn from my mistake; Never let Santander be your banker in an Auto Deal.

This company destroys your finances, do harassment, will not resolve any issue, and most importantly, towed the auto you bought with shady repo towing companies, it will destroy your credit and life all for a few hundred dollars. To make the story short, they towed my vehicle which I accidentally left my credit card in the vehicle and found out that one of them stole it and used it to make an online wine purchase immediately. I filed a complaint with the owner and Santander USA. Only the owner cared but not Santander, that company could give a hoot. Then to get the car out, they told me if I send a Western Union of almost $2,000, they will not send it to auction and told me a deadline date and time before noon.

Well, guess what? I sent that money through Western Union well before noon and I called later, it was already towed to the Auction and I will have another $2,000 to pay except I can do it from their bills. I explained many times constantly for months to please remove that $2,000 but they never did. The next time, I didn't care and refused to pay into their extortion so Santander USA towed the car, again. I said good riddance and ignored their phone calls. I don't have the car ever since but they decided to ruin my credit score. All these events happened before Covid-19 Pandemic, mind you. Santander USA is up there with the Mafia!

I called to see if I can make a payment arrangement until I can catch up. They said "Pay what you can". After two months I find out that that reported us to the credit bureau's as having 2 missed payments. I was pissed. They later called me and told me that they can extend the loan for two months and that way we can be "current". I E-signed the documents but this offer was not made to us until AFTER they reported the 2 missed payments. Why didn't they offer this to us before so our credit wouldn't take a hit!!?? JERKS!!!

This year things have been good and the past 6 months, we have paid them extra money each week in addition to the regular payment. You would think they would appreciate it and offer us a much better interest rate or give us a $1,000 credit. NOPE!!! They are money hungry vultures!!! The other thing I hate about this company is that when you call them, you hardly ever reach the US and there are language barriers. WE will however get the last laugh because we are paying off this van three years early and they will not get the interest they are expecting which is anywhere from $3,000-$4,000!

I mailed all the paperwork to have them relinquish the funds to me and till this day 11-13-20 I am still getting the run around from them. I even had one representative tell me to just take his debit card to the atm and "just take the money out yourself" which is illegal. I just heard back from them telling me that the paperwork that I submitted was incorrect and that I will need to start over. I do not understand why the same paperwork that I submitted to 3 other banks was okay and not for Santander. This mental anguish is horrible and I do not wish this upon anyone, losing my brother was hard enough without this bank adding on by ignoring me and giving me false information.

Still waiting to hear from the lawsuit for all the people that they have roped off.

Let me start by saying I hardly ever do reviews, so when I do one it’s because it was worth the time for me! I went through Santander for my car. I told them my concerns about getting a new car. They acted like they were here for me and could help no matter the issue. Well a few months in I had lost my job due to the Coronavirus. I immediately called them and told them what was going on and asked if there was anything they could do to help. They told me no! I kept them updated on everything. I told them I had gotten a new job and told them I would be able to make a full payment by a certain date yet they took my car anyway! I called they told me to pay off what I owed, any fees and an extra month to get my car back then proceeded to tell me if I would have asked for help they could have helped me before my car was repossessed, like what the hell? I did ask!

I had gotten all the money within only 3 days of my car being taken. I called to pay it and they just refused me the car back regardless! They told me also in the beginning I needed a co signer to help with the credit and said nothing else. We’ll come to find out they put me as the co-signer and was mad asking why the other person didn’t make payments on it when I couldn’t. I told them that it wasn’t their responsibility and that’s when I found all that out, including the fact that she was only supposed to be on it for the use of her credit, but apparently now that’s not the case!

So after being with them for about a year or close to they were rude, they lied, I got all the money to get it back and they just wouldn’t give it back and the sad part I got the check to pay them the day they repossessed the car. I couldn’t cash it until the next day and they took the car while I was sleeping! So ya don’t go through them. They tell you anything and then after you're with them you're garbage. They take what they can from you then screw you over and sell your car!

They saddled me with a $436.00 car payment while I was making $12.30 an hour (with already $500 rent), then when I fell on hard times they LIED to me multiple times saying that partial payments would be fine to make. My car was repossessed and they charged me double the amount of money, and then towed the car over 40 miles away from my house.

Now that they are dealing with this AG Settlement, they REFUSE to give me any information about the status of my car, even though the Attorney General and the independent consultant have all stated it is THEIR responsibility to do so. They have flat out ignored my multiple calls, emails, chat support requests, and physical emails to their corporate and legal departments.

These people are crooks, dealing in subprime loans and are now paying out over $500 million in restitution and car loan forgiveness. The funny thing is, I called just for the heck of it and pretended like I needed to make a partial payment and asked if that would affect my account, and they STILL lied, even after it was noted in the initial multi-state lawsuit that was one of the TOP REASONS why they were being sued!

When I called them to fix his name, the only thing they can change is to send them a copy of his Driving license and his account number via Fax. There's no another way to fix it, so on our day off we drove to nearest store and pay for fax to send them a copy and they probably need it 10 business days to fix they mistake.

Second what they did, when we open the account in end of August, they send us the payment right away and it was due by October 6th, so we send them a check via us mail and they cash it right away. The second payment come and it was due by November 6th, so again we send them a check ahead. They cash the check, but they didn't change due date for December 6th. I called them yesterday, and they promise to fix the due date, but they need at least between 3 to 5 business days to change the due date...

Please hear me right, we have financed the cars though Chase before, and right now we have a second car financed though Capital One and we don't have any problem with them whatsoever. Keep in Mind: This lender is primarily for those with a much less than perfect/no credit score. If offered a loan from them, accept it knowing interest rates will be high. **This complaint has nothing to do with pricing as I knew what I was getting into.** Had the loan for almost 3 years with only 1 incident of delinquency in payment. ****

1st scenario: During the first year, fell ill and lost my job so I filed for an extension which pushes the unpaid months to the back of the loan therefore extending the expected payoff date. The representative I initially filed with was kind but screwed the process up with the dates of the extension causing the extension to only be good for 2 months instead of the 3 we discussed & verbally agreed upon. And this caused my payments to fall behind without me knowing until the delinquent notice was in the mail. They performed 'an investigation' where the 'recorded' calls were 'reviewed' by management and they deemed it to be my fault. This was a lesson learned on my part not to sign paperwork without being fully secure. The problem lied with the manner in which the matter was 'handled'; poorly & unaccountably.

2nd Scenario: Vehicle was a total loss in June of 2020. Called to report it with Insurance and Impound depts. Spoke with CS who transferred me to impound. Lady was very nice, provided her with insurance info and she told me someone would call me back. Never heard back. Received notices vehicle would be repossessed even after it was reported. Tow truck driver arrived and I told him where the vehicle was located to pick it up. Tow driver said someone would contact once it's retrieved. Heard nothing. Received two more notices in the mail as well as notifications from credit report that payments were delinquent.

Called today and spoke with Jude/Joel (?) in impound dept who was extremely difficult to hear and was rude when explaining the process. Then 'the line got disconnected'. Called back twice as line disconnected the second time and got Supe (like soup-ay) who you could already tell she had a bad attitude. I asked if she could call me back as I had been 'disconnected with' twice already and she replied asking what I need help with, completely dodging the question. Was argumentative and *extremely* unprofessional throughout the 7 minute conversation. She cut me off to raise her voice multiple times and would backpedal on her words saying one thing then saying she never said that or that I was never told something when in fact I was by Joel or someone else in their company. They notify you that the payments are due & they want their money but don't notify you how you can keep your name in the clear.

Conclusion/Take-Away: Take this lender knowing you'll get approved and you're paying much more than what the car is worth each month but if you fall into financial troubles, there should be options for you (which explains the two stars). However, do not expect smoice (smile in their voice), concern, or efficiency when connected to a live agent. As a 5th gen native born US citizen, I'm not saying this is a cultural problem in their company but this is my experience. The only positive representatives I'd spoken with were from the Caribbean/Africa or Mexico. All American accented reps (not Canadian, you can tell the difference) were the same; entitled, presumptuous, and half-baked (for lack of the word I want to use). You will always have dissatisfied clientele when you treat them less than.

I did not advise Santander and didn't realize my payments were not being paid until I got notice from a credit bureau that there was issues. I immediately brought my account current with no notice from Santander. Santander had advised they tried to get in touch with me which was a lie. They wouldn't work with me on the additional fees they charged due to this incident. Mind you I had not missed a payment in 4 years. Then as I paid my truck off, full term, with the interest that it was, they could not produce a title.

After about 4 calls to Santander, broken promises to call back, things that were supposedly sent to me that hadn't been, still no title. I called the DMV as they advised and was told it was a paper title and that Santander had the title. Calling Santander to advise what DMV said they said that wasn't true and are now sending me the release of lien so I can go pay for a lost title. I know on cars I have financed before thru Ford or whoever, I have always received my title when the car was paid off, and didn't have to pay additional to get it. Santander is well-known for their predatory lending practices. The abusive business practices of this company are appalling and supported by multimillion dollar lawsuits. For auto loans, Santander eliminated GAP insurance years ago, which protected consumers in the case of their vehicle being a total loss by providing the funds that insurance does not cover (since insurance is based on vehicle value, not on loan amount due). This allows Santander to keep your car payment at the same rate without reducing it, no matter how long you have left in your original lease terms under the guise of “not having collateral of your car” which means they will not work with you to reduce or lower your payments. My APR is over 25%, which is absolutely absurd.

Santander targets vulnerable consumers who are in need of a loan but have not established the best credit history. They have extremely high fees and unfair loan structures. They specifically target individuals likely to default and provide disadvantaged loans to profit off of consumers being upside down and indebted to their very poor quality services. Do not use this loan company and help others avoid the same mistake. Despite lawsuits, they’re too powerful because of their predatory lending to be taken down easily.

I took out a loan with this company due to needing a vehicle I could have for my son and I. However one day they called and told me that they hadn’t received my payment and that I was behind a month! I really don’t understand how that could happen but whatever. So I just recently paid off the past due balance. Which was $715. My next bill isn’t due until 6/15 of $404 dollars and they have reported to the credit bureaus that I’m late!!! I’m highly upset! When I call the automated system it says that I owed $600 something dollars! This company is complete trash and I hope that they go out of business soon. I’m definitely considering turning in this car and finding something else because they’re not about to keep robbing me! I will be also reporting them to the better business bureau as well. Good luck to everyone else on here. There has to be a better option for us all. So if you’re considering using Santander for a loan!!! DON'T DO IT!

Don't go through this company for a loan. They add to the loans and don't update their systems. Paid my loan and had proof and they still wanted to repo the car. My family even helped me try and keep it but they kept saying they needed payment. And even when offered to pay AGAIN they suddenly don't accept any form of payments. When they decide they want your car they will not stop. This company is trash and needs shut down. I went from actually owing $16,000 to $25,000. So instead of deducting they add on the loan, you will never see the light at the end with this company. I let the jeep go and will not give another cent to them!

Updated on 09/26/2020: I have submitted 1 reason earlier, but I have some updated information. Regarding a 2019 Mitsubishi Mirage G4. I had to defer 3 payments of 499.59 (due to Covid-19 and everything was on lockdown), guess what? They added 5 months to the 72 month payment plan, now it's 77 months that I owe. Now I owe 18,286.00 with an interest rate of 27.89% which comes to 21,468.00. Total owed 39,754.00. Ironically they lost my payment history of 5,500.00. I have all receipts. I told Santander to come get the car. it's value now is 8,000.00.

The dealership sold me a service for 2,000.00 which is limited, here's the catcher the paperwork that I have says I was only charged 750.00. Bill of sale says 2000.00. I have filed 2 Top action suits and with my Attorney General. I don't care if my credit rating of 648 goes down (I had no credit bad or good when I bought the car). I tried refi. Nobody will touch it. My only option is, I am not paying over 44,000.00 for a car that is worth 8,000.00. Come get it!! They know where it is!!

Original Review: I bought a new 2019 Mitsubishi Mirage G4. Through Mark Mitsubishi June 21, 2019. Great car!! Here is the issue at hand. I had no credit (bad or good), I drove off the lot with only 100.00 down. Signed all papers etc. Now I am stuck with 26,7% interest rate. Costing me 18,000.00 for a car that is worth 9,000.00. Total payments at 72 months at 499.95. I am paying over 35,000.00 for this car. Santander was recently involved in a major lawsuit, of over millions of money, who they screwed over. Bet you I am on that list.

All I was a few days late. Tried to keep vehicle and every time I was being told different information. Tried to refinance with credit union but Santander wouldn’t allow them to pay it off. Called Santander and they said they’d never turn down money. Now vehicle getting repo and they telling me it’s voluntary and I’ll have to pay what it doesn’t bring. No. I said it’s not voluntary cause Santander wouldn’t work with me so I could keep. I say Santander is a legal loan shark. I say run as fast as you can to avoid doing business with them!!!! It was a lot of money for me since I’m young but it was easy to pay bills, talk to reps and most importantly to help me get into a reliable car I’m which I’ve love for years so thanks Santander. Santander took over my auto loan from another company, in December. I didn't receive any notice until February. I called Santander asking for the payment history they received from the old finance company because Santander is showing my payoff balance over $1000 more than what my records show. I received another letter from Santander stating the initial letter I received was sent in error, disregard it; my account with the old finance company is closed and settled. Called Santander asking for my title and they say "oh, the 1st and 2nd letter was sent to you in error, disregard both of them".. I call today to make a payment and they say I'm behind $1000.. I call to speak to a representative and she pretends to be transferring me to "account services" to clear up this error and the phone conveniently disconnects.

I call back and the same rep answers and tells me there is no account services extension, she was just putting me on hold for some reason. She assures me I should be hearing from the non-existent account services people within 3-5 days then proceeded to tell me Santander never sent me a paper copy of my payment history even though I was holding it in my hand and looking right at it. This company is nothing but a scam. I would never intentionally do business with them and I will be re-financing my auto loan with another company as soon as I can.

Chrysler Capital is the worst financial company I have ever dealt with! Dealer submitted loan request and was approved through their company late October 2019. I was not happy about their interest rate as I have never had an interest rate so high with my credit score being so good. They gave me a rate above 6% APR. I began paying payments right away as I like to stay ahead. By January 2020 I had made a call as they didn't show my next payment due appropriately, should have been months ahead. They showed me due for the current month. They said it would be corrected. 2 weeks later it still wasn't corrected. I connected with Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). Provided my complaint. They acted on correcting my account only after my complaint to CFPB, that could fine them for following protection acts that are in place for the consumers' benefit.

Lo and behold. Same issue not even a month later. This time I asked for the executive complaint department and wouldn't budge, get me through now. Even with the executive complaint department they didn't correct my information appropriately, as they put practices in place on their end that you can only pay ahead on your account by 3 months.

I immediately became a member of a credit union, set up a portion of my direct deposit from payroll to a new account with the credit union. Loan process for refi went quickly and am now at a good rate under 3% and with a company that others have provided good reviews about. (They refi vehicles 3 years or under at a new rate, at least most credit unions I found.) Point if you are able get away from this predatory company, do so immediately!

Omg this is by far in all my years of banking the worst bank I have ever dealt with! I am pleading with you before you make a terrible mistake stay away from this Spanish owned bank whose qualification for employees are buffoons and below! 7 weeks now I have tried contacting Santander, the new mortgage co they just hired which is laughable, the new mortgage co changed the rules on my mortgage!!!! A new co. Santander didn't care. Oh sorry they do the mortgage side of santander now! They didn't care one bit that a 63 yr old single widowed woman could lose their house over this "Little" change!!!! No one calls you back, they send threatening letters even after you have called repeatedly trying to resolve the issue. Go read the reviews, 86 % bad on this site, 91 -yes 91 % on another site of 1 star ratings!!! The government needs to step in and help the consumer here because our hands are tied!

I have contacted both the BBB and the Attorney General's office for help but with covid going on I fear it won't come soon!! Please. I am not doing this out of spite. Just as a warning. Do your research! Spain doesn't give a rat's ass about an American family with the biggest investment of a lifetime -our home!! What I have gone thru borders on insane! A mortgage specialist from one of the branch offices met me at a local santander. He sat for an hour and a half and couldn't figure it out!!!! They sent me away problem unresolved!! What bank does this?? I asked them to escalate this to a supervisor, never heard one single word!!!

This bank is corrupt, stay away so no one has to go thru what I have. I really think when I sit down to start the calling each week on my one day off that I am going to have a heart attack with the anxiety I have each time! Each week I give myself 90 min to resolve this same issue - each week at the end of 90 min nothing has been fixed, sometimes in 90 min I haven't even talked to a live person!

First off - would give them 0 stars if this system would let me!! Here is what resulted from my first 2 calls to them - since the dealer financial rep provided me 0 assistance with how to title my vehicle in PA after purchasing in Ohio. Plus dealer financial rep acts like they are giving us a Deal at 5.99% interest rate while both my wife and I have 850+ credit scores, after sales manager tries to pull a fast one on me, but fortunately the only ethical person at the dealership, my salesman' had my back. My messages to Chrysler Capital after 2 phone calls failed to provide any meaningful info.

Message about First call. 'I purchased a new 2020 Jeep Compass in Ohio this past Saturday 3/14/20. I live in PA. I financed through Chrysler Capital. Can you PLEASE tell me how long it will take for me to get the Ohio title with Chrysler Capital listed as the lienholder so that I may procure a PA title? Rep I talked to told me that I would have to do a change of state form, go to my DMV, send it in to Chrysler etc.'

Then message on 2nd call. 'Second rep again not familiar with the scenario, but insists that she is. She tells me info. completely contrary to what the dealership told me, I ask for a manager. She puts me on hold 15 minutes without getting a manager, but comes back to tell me I will not get a title until it has been perfected which takes 30 to 60 days, plus another 2 to 3 weeks for me to get a copy of the title. I explain to her that by that time, my Ohio temp plates will be expired! I ask for manager AGAIN, put on hold for another 20 minutes then disconnected! Thanks!'

Their response to these messages was - call us - hilarious! Then called my dealer and they explained that I would get the title and sales tax check in 2-3 weeks from date of purchase. Now 2 weeks after I purchase - Chrysler offers new 0% deals etc. (Pandemic deals) I ask them what assistance they can provide since I just purchased and wife may lose her job. They say nothing can be done with the rate, but they will push back my 1st payment a couple months, however they will be charging me Additional Interest for those 2 months - gee thanks - great assistance - charging me more money! So try calling them again and now just get disconnected! So, sending them more messages that no one has yet answered. Looking to pay this off asap, so if I do ever have a question or need assistance I can actually talk to a knowledgable person or actually get assistance for a once a century type scenario.

Friday, 20 March 2020, my wife, Sandy ** called Amazon customer service. She talked to a man who called himself Mike. Told her he would have to call her back. He did. He had a heavy accent, sounded Indian. Sandy was seeking a refund, $500 refund for a transaction she did not make. He told Sandy he could take care of the refund if she would allow him to access her computer, and her bank account. He would simply add the amount to her available balance. Said he would split the amount into two entries.

Made the entry, $2250, not $250. Said he would try to fix it but repeated his error. Told Sandy not to tell anyone. He would lose his job. He would call back in a few hours. Get it all fixed up. A few hours later, Sandy checked her account. Available balance along with $3000 from overdraft account, gone. Two visits to the local bank, and discussion with Santander fraud department. Amazon, we were told, is responsible. Suggested retaining attorney if Amazon refuses responsibility.

I did not know about this until it was done. I called Santander customer service. They told me no way should someone, even with Sandy’s password, be able to manipulate bank account funds. But the man, who answered the Amazon customer service phone number did exactly that. A phone call to Amazon, and we are out several thousand dollars.

Here’s the thing, as my first contact person at Santander Customer Service stated, no one, with only customer, (Sandy’s), customer password authority, should be able to manipulate, increase/decrease, available funds in a Santander customers account, and in real time, instantly reflected on screen. A customer’s password should not allow this level of vulnerability. It also violates accounting practices. I am a computer systems specialist with an accounting and database management background. Unwise as it was to grant access to account, Santander’s IT and accounting department, as accepted security practice, must have fail-safes built in to prevent such a security breach. Please accept responsibility and restore missing funds.
