I also applied for the advance loan. I went to fill my taxes with JH under the impression that I WOULD receive a loan. So I took the 500 dollar lost thinking I would get a loan but 30 min later I got a denial letter. Not once was I told I have to be approved. I called JH and was told there is nothing they can do about it. I always file my taxes online free of charge and only went to JH cause I expected a loan. Everybody DO NOT go to JH cause they will scam you out 600 dollars.

I went to Jackson Hewitt desperate for advance loan to pay late rent. I was assured by the tax preparer I would be approved because my return was more than enough to cover the loan. After being charged fees and agreeing to using their card and having them do my taxes for that ridiculous amount of money, I was told my advance should be on my card within 45 mins and I would get an email. I went out to eat. 2 hours later checked my email and there it was a disappointment denial letter. This company is targeting scamming poor people and it's really sick.

I called in to make an appt. I was told to bring my last paystub and my ID. I did. When I arrived, I was told to get all my SSNs for my family. Had to go home and retrieve them. Thank goodness I already had my W2. Spent almost an hour going through the process. Finally, I was given the choice between a card and something else. I chose the less expensive option of putting my refund on my temporary card. I was told I would be notified when it was accepted or denied. I was NEVER told I'd receive ONLY a partial amount. I received a call stating "since I was new" I would only receive a partial amount of $500! Why would I pay almost $500 to receive ONLY $500 and not the entire amount to be refunded as I was LED to believe?
I tried to call and cancel it, but was told it was "final." Then later on, when I tried to obtain cash for stores that do NOT accept AmEx, I spent FOUR HOURS trying different ATMs that had the MoneyPass logo. I went to grocery stores to try and do a "cash back." Nothing worked. I tried calling the "office" at Walmart and was unable to talk to an agent. I called three different numbers provided by Serve.com and NONE of them led to a real agent.
I work in customer service and am appalled that such fraudulent and uncaring businesses/agents are still out there. You'd think JH being around so long they'd actually realize to help others is to help oneself. I guess not. Well thank goodness for Karma. I really should have read the reviews before I even tried, but like so many of us trying to have our refunds quickly, I jumped before I researched. Please if you do need fast cash, try TurboTax, TaxAct or TaxSlayer before giving one penny to this ridiculous company. It was my first time, my last time and I definitely will be going somewhere else. Anywhere else!

First off, we take my wife's last pay stub in on the 10th of this year to basically get a headstart on the refund situation. When we were all said and done we were told that we were close to nearly $1500 back & actually got a R.A.L. back within 20 mins (if that) of $300! And then all we had to do was wait for our W-2s to come in to finish up with the whole process. We get W-2s in the day before yesterday (1-17-19) & proceed to Walmart to get it done only to end up being screwed by a young man who looked & acted like he literally knew nothing about what he was doing! First off, I'm on soc. sec. and there's absolutely no need to enter ANY of my W-2 information into the system, which he proceeds to do!
Then as he's trying to enter my wives fed withholding he had absolutely no idea where to find in on the W-2! And we're both pretty certain he didn't even enter any of it. Now mind you he had already entered all of the very same information from my wife's last pay stub, which had all of the very same information on it from the 10th! All he had to do was finish up their paperwork showing that we had turned in our W-2s, had been verified by them and "TAH-DAH" we would be done! Thru all of that crap he looks at us and says "I'm sorry but your refund is only going to be $136"... Are you fricking kidding me!
Again, none of my W-2 info was to be put in there...I DON'T PAY TAXES AND AM NOT ENTITLED TO A REFUND IN MY NAME! I can only be used as a dependent! We're going back up there today (1-19-19) to get it straightened out, and if they refuse to do so, then if we are able to we're going to have the refund process STOPPED & take our business elsewhere. My wife has actually used Jackson Hewitt for nearly 24 years & me 15, and if they don't fix the problem we'll never use them again...

Same thing like all the other reviews approved online for 3500. Went in. Told I needed to do a American Express card for the loan and if I was pre approved online I would get the advance. Finished up. Came home only to have a denial. They are charging me 470.00 for tax preparation fee. Also 50.00 for having the refund advance card for a advance I did not get. This place is a scam. I have been a loyal customer for over 8 years. I am so disgusted. Will not ever return.

There is no reason this office should even be open. Some 18 year old girl with no clue did my return. Guessed it would be "$150 max", then was shocked it was over $350. She couldn't answer any questions, didn't ask how I wanted my refund, and didn't know the difference between 1040, 1040a, and 1040ez. Had no idea how much an EZ return would be or if I could file one. I'm still irate, waiting for some "manager" to call back after complaining to 800 number. Then I'm referred to MetaBank, whose phone number answers saying there's a LONG DELAY... on Jan 18th? Thank God it's not April.

I set up an appointment to go in for a tax refund advance on 1/3/2019. Got there early, everything was going great. Informed my tax preparer Brandi, that I may have a corrected 1099, So I only wanted to apply for the loans, not to submit my taxes. She assured me MULTIPLE times that we were not submitting my taxes because she "didn't want me to have to file an amendment if my 1099 was corrected." GREAT!! She gave me some paperwork to bring back in with me with my corrected 1099 to finish up my taxes and correct them if necessary. Finished up, signed for the loan, got an estimate of what my refund would be. Great day. I even got home and did the survey for her (ALL 10s). Next day, come to find out there was a computer system error for the refund advances and Jackson Hewitt needed to update their system and reprocess the loan.
Again I was reassured over the phone by Brandi that this was resubmitting the loan and my taxes are NOT BEING FILED and I still needed to bring in the paperwork she gave me and my corrected 1099 to submit my taxes. I called the customer service line a few hours later to try and make sure that there were no more errors, they tell me my loan is saved, but not resubmitted. They call Brandi, she assures them it's submitted. Ok, we go through this another 4 times that evening, customer service saying it isn't submitted, Brandi telling them that it is. Whatever at this point, it's either submitted or not, I don't even care at this point, I'd wait and see what happened. Got a denial email the next day, doesn't say which loan I was denied for, Brandi told me if I was denied for the "Go Big Refund Advance" that I'd need to click on a link in the email they send me, to change to the "No Fee Refund Advance". Look at the email, nothing to click on.
I called Brandi back, she said "they will send you a follow up email and the link will be in there". Not surprised at all, I never got a follow up email. I was done with Jackson Hewitt, they can't even tell me correct information about a loan application, why would I go back and finalize my taxes through them? No one can tell me which loan if not both I was denied for, tried customer service, Facebook, in store, and through MetaBank. I am done with Jackson Hewitt. So imagine my surprise when I get an email stating that the IRS has accepted my federal refund??? Surely not, I never submitted my taxes with Jackson Hewitt this year. Oh yeah, it was sent over. Called customer service again, was transferred around a few times, few different phone calls, finally got escalations. She assured me the regional manager of that location would contact me to resolve this.
Got a call from Fred, apparently in order to submit a refund advance with a 1099. The taxes HAVE to be submitted...and APPARENTLY my tax preparer informed me of this, even though she assured me multiple times that she was NOT submitting my taxes AND THAT I STILL HAD PAPERWORK SHE GAVE ME AND NEEDED IN ORDER TO SUBMIT THEM. He is happy to file an amended return if my 1099 is corrected, but there's nothing else he can do for me without a copy of a recording of Brandi telling me she was not submitting my taxes...
This is straight up FRAUD, I am being FORCED TO PAY THEIR FEES, and there is nothing in this world that would make me go back through Jackson Hewitt for anything, so now I am forced to pay for someone else to do an amended return, and my tax refund will be late because of this. Looking around Facebook and reviews, turns out I am not the only one this has happened to. Something needs to be done about this.
Thank you Samantha for reaching back out to us. Feel free to contact us if you have any further questions. We are here to assist you. -Melinda

Pre-qualified for early refund advance. Went in yesterday and I filed Single, head of house, with (2) W-2 and dependents. That's it. No homeowner, no additional credits or deductions needed. Just a standard deduction. I was charged $450 for tax fees, another $79 for audit protection, and $49 refund assistance fee. $578 to file taxes that I've always filed for free. The only fee that was mentioned to me what the audit support and that was it. I assumed that was the only fee. He skipped through all the paperwork and did not allow me the time to read any documents.
Typically you're advised that this is your full return amount, this is our price and this is the difference that you will receive. That didn't happen here. I was led to believe the final number was the full amount the IRS was refunding, less $79. Never was I asked what "Tax package' I wanted to use. I NEVER would have selected a $450 option. This was plain out theft. This man saw that my income was only $30k last year with 5 dependents and tried to steal $578 from my return. Thankfully I used my paystubs and have not provided any W2's yet so I have the ability to cancel completely.

I specifically asked several times while my taxes was being prepared how much will I receive and the lady doing my taxes claims she didn't know the amount, that I will be notified within an hour of the amount I will get. We found out an hour later we were denied, but couldn't cancel because they had already filed for 435.00. This place is a scam.

Decided to go with Jackson Hewitt for tax preparation in 2018. Since I'm single, no dependents, they only needed to file the EZ forms for federal and state. Proceeded to complete my tax returns, have me sign them and then tell me that I was denied, because I was a 'first-time' filer. This year, they began by calling me to come in and early file my taxes, assured me that I qualified for an early advance because they already have all my documents from last year. I completed paperwork on Jan. 9, 2019--rep told me the $550.00 would be deposited into my bank account within two days. Two days pass--no deposit. I check my email and 27 minutes after I completed filing (Jan. 9th) Jackson Hewitt sends me a denial, saying Metabank denied my advance.
It's obvious that their employees have been 'trained' to lure unsuspecting customers in with false promises. They're making really good money off filing EZ forms--especially if you take the standard deduction. When you're a person who could use a little extra cash after the holidays (and you've worked hard all year paying Uncle Sam), why does this company repeatedly rob us? HAD THEY BEEN HONEST UP FRONT, I would not have filed my taxes with them again. Lesson definitely learned here; I won't fall for their phone calls and false promises of rapid returns.

Went to Jackson Hewitt office in Ocala FL 01/03/2019. I was a happy returning customer until 20min after prefixing my taxes. The person that did my prep was good until I asked about my advance that I get every year. No problem. It’s always the same deal. I do a prequalify online. They say yes, give me a quoted amount and book an appointment. You go in either prefile or file depending on what documents you have at the time of appointment. The tax preparer tells me the same thing I hear every year I go here. I’m preapproved of course. No concerned there.
I get my documents and my new temp serve card and told you will have your funds in as little as 10 min but can take up to 24hours. No big deal. About 20 min after I leave I receive an email not a text like I authorized from Jackson Hewitt saying I was denied my refund advance!!! Out pure disbelief I pull over and call not my office but the corporate number. The rep that I explained my issue to tells me. We don’t make the decision to approve or deny your advance. Meta Bank is our loan provider and has the final decision for approval. Excuse me. Then why is the email coming from JH and why is JH sending emails and then telling me online and in person I’m preapproved for 700 now and then 1700 when I complete my filing by submitting my w-2 when I get it??? You had me a card for my advanced funds to boot and it’s not my first advance with them.
So why isn't Meta Bank's name on the email and if that’s the case why is JH taking my info and telling me I’m preapproved. How do you know that if the decision/authority for approval is not yours. FYI they can’t charge you anything until you actually file meaning I will take my w-2 somewhere else and finish filing and JH will not see a dime of my money period! You can’t finalize without my paperwork.
I will give JH a fair chance to makes this right only because the office I go to is awesome and the people there are worth the high price. But that’s it. JH is lucky they have them or they wouldn’t have nothing. JH the ball's in your court. You made the statements of approval for funds. I expect it to be honored. If not maybe my lawyer can help y’all look over your emails and online statements just to make sure your font and bold lettering are in the correct places and the correct size. If that happens I’ll take my Business elsewhere and make sure not one person I know ever spends their hard earned money with you. MetaBank has an automated system prerecorded to tell all Denies that they are SOL and that’s final. That tells me they already had this previously planned to deny just about everyone this year and not being upfront about it. Hope Meta Bank cover JH loses this year.

I wish I had read other reviews before going to Jackson Hewitt! They did the same thing to my husband and I. We were told that the bank approved our refund advance, there was even a pending deposit in our bank account. It was late in the evening by this time, so we didn't think much of it. Woke up the next morning to no deposit in our bank account. Called to find out that we were denied. We asked 3 times if the advance was based in credit and were told no. Apparently it was. Because we get a sizable refund each year and were not approved for a couple hundred dollars. This was our first and last time going to Jackson Hewitt. $450 to prepare our taxes and we were lied to. Will stick to doing them yourself.

I have filed my taxes using Jackson Hewitt for several years. As in years past I was contacted by phone and email stating I was pre-approved for refund advance loan. Nothing has changed much regarding my tax situation. I file my taxes and am asked to sign electronically several times never shown the tax preparers screen. Still, I was trusting as I've filed for many years without any real problems. I was told that I was approved for the advance but she didn't have the exact amount yet but that it would load shortly on the card I still had from last year. She goes to the printer, collects a stack of documents, staples them into a folder and hands the folder to me saying the funds should be loading anytime and I'll receive a text stating the amount, have a nice day.
After 2 hours had passed and nothing had loaded on my card I called and they said they were having computer issues. Give it another hour. Another 2 hours later I call and am told they are having to put some through again because of a computer glitch but I would have my money by the end of the day. I call back before the office closes and am told I was denied and they can't tell me why. I don't have any offsets or owe any money so zero'. How was I pre-approved, approved at the time she supposedly filed my tax info, then later at the end of business denied?
I feel like they are a sinking ship scamming people and using fraudulent practices just to get business. I have read many scary reviews for them and will be going in the morning to void my contract with them. To top it off I look in the folder and there are no copies of anything tax related. It's 50 pages of their fees and info on their so called advance. Since when do you not get a copy of your return? Serious red flags here. TurboTax here I come!

Not even 20 minutes later I received a denial because last year they messed up on DOB so my information didnt match from last year. They told to come back with W2 and they would see if I qualify then. To be honest the only reason I use Jackson Hewitt is for the refund advance. She gave me Amex card told me $475 will be on card in 24 hr and the rest will arrive when I bring back w2. Ok fine. I signed papers and left the store. 20 minutes later I got email from JH say MetaBank denied advance. They claim I may owe IRS. I call IRS and I owe them nothing. Now I'm upset. In just paid someone $450 to have someone else do my taxes based on a false approval. I usually file on my own with TurboTax should've stuck with that. I'll never do JH again. I called about a week after just to verify that the correction was made, and I was told it wasn't. I was also told that it would not matter. (Ok then...) Being that it was not filed electronically, I knew that I had to wait 6-8 weeks before trying to follow up. The middle of May 2018 was when I finally started to follow up with Jackson Hewitt. Before I did that, I used the IRS refund tool online. I even went as far as to call the IRS but my documents were not there.
I then called Jackson Hewitt and was directed to another location as the one inside of Walmart was closed. I spoke with a lady named Donna located on Shaw. She confirmed that there was no record of my documents being mailed out. Can you imagine all the things running through my head? My family just moved out here to California and we were depending on this money to help us get a vehicle. All Donna said was to go to her office and sign more documents to have it go through the whole process of being mailed out again. So, I went to her office which is not near my house at all to sign papers that I had signed already 2 months ago. I was also reassured that I would be getting a phone call from a manager.
It is now July 2018 and no phone call yet. That is not all, after signing said documents, she told me it would be faster if I went down to the IRS myself to drop off the documents. How dare she? Because of that I asked for a reimbursement of the fee because I was now doing their job. Instead of assisting me and giving me peace of mind all she kept telling me, was to see her personally next year so that she could assist me. I am trying to complete this year, and there will not be a next year. She said if I went to her this wouldn't happen again.
I went down to the IRS as I was told but was dumbfounded when I got there... I had to mail it in. They did not accept it just being dropped off. So, now Donna gave me information that was not verified! Let me remind you, I have no vehicle. It took me 2 buses to get to her office then 2 to get to the IRS then 2 back home. Now it is a problem for me. With so many situations of identity theft, I was so upset that I had to mail out a second set of tax papers. I called the IRS to find out if they received my documents at the end of June 2018. When they told me that they did, I also had to verify that it was only one. I did not want to take the chance of getting in trouble for filing twice because of Evelyn at Jackson Hewitt.
My family and I trusted your company and brand that you represent with very sensitive and important information. How upsetting. You would think, that if a mistake was done on their end that they would call to follow up. Oh no, do not hold your breath for Jackson Hewitt to provide excellent customer service. I was the one that called when I finally received my tax in July 2018. I wanted to ask if they had already started the process to reimburse me for the fee which was $299.95 by the way. I called Donna, and she sounded confused. So again I had to explain the whole situation. Really, things like this should be documented. I understand that I am not your only customer but don't be so unprofessional about it.
Great even just good customer service would have been her calling me to reassure me that she had already begun the process of my reimbursement. That is the least that they could have done! Then I was told that I would only get $250 back because they can't reimburse me for the direct deposit fee. What??? Are you kidding me, so reimburse me for all my bus ticket fees then and all the time I had to take out of my busy day to help you do your job. How inconsiderate of them.
Never again will I conduct business with Jackson Hewitt. A little piece of advice, you work for a tax preparation company like so many others out there. You provide all the same products and similar services. Prices are almost similar as well. Customer service is what brings customers back. It is so easy to get customers but retaining customers is what keeps the business going. So yes, you got me as a customer (first time) and I will no longer be one. A total waste of time and money.

Dont ever use Jackson Hewitt to file your taxes, they are a bunch of idiots (right from the tax filing agent to the customer service people), worst experience of my lifetime. I opted to file my 2017 year's taxes using Jackson Hewitt because they had a season office opened up in Walmart, which was close to my house. First, my E-file did not go through, they had some issues with their tax software, and I was promised by the agent that it would be taken care of. Fast-forward 2 months, I call the IRS (as I did not receive my state refund even after 2 months). IRS tell me that they did not receive my tax papers yet.
Called the Jackson Hewitt customer service team almost every day. They could not even figure out if my taxes were filed electronically or if it was paper filing. Finally they said they would get a manager to give me a call. All the while I've been calling the Jackson Hewitt customer support. Got a case ticket created, but no response, all I get to hear is the manager is going to call you. After 10 days of chasing, calling every day, finally the manager Mr. David ** (or something from Atlanta team) calls me and explains me that they have issues with their software and they cannot do E-filing (this you get to hear after 2 months after the tax deadline). HORRIBLE TAX SERVICE COMPANY. They need to be sued for taking customers for a ride. Never use them. Stay away from them... A big mistake doing business with them. I would have given a ZERO star, but that option is not there in this website.

I filed my taxes Feb 5, 2018. It's now May 18, 2018! I'm highly disappointed with their services. My tax preparer was the worst, it was my first time filing taxes. I'm 19 yrs old and I feel like she came over on me. I was charged so much for everything... Every time I try to check my refund status it says they cannot tell me anything about my taxes. SMH I can't believe they screwed up this bad. I went up there and filed by myself and told her specifically I am not on my mom's taxes anymore. Somehow I ended up being added on to her taxes and that's what screwed everything up for.
The crazy part is my mom just got her taxes 4 days ago and she filed before me and the same lady messed hers up. She went thru a lot to get her taxes and everything for her was screwed up. They sent in an envelope for her to fix the preparer's mistakes and said it will take up to 16 wks for them to even look at the envelope. I haven't heard anything about my taxes. All I know for this long wait I'm getting extra or I'm gonna put them thru hell with my auntie's lawyer. I hope Jackson Hewitt can see this. You guys screwed up the wrong taxes! Don't ever file with JH. Their services are the worst. I'm going to Turbo Tax next time. I wish I did that in the first place. I hate Jackson Hewitt and their preparers who does not know what the heck they're doing!!!

This is May 7, 2018 and still no return... even took this matter to corporate and they are as unprofessional as their tax preparer. Was told I would get a phone call in 72 hours. Two weeks later I was told the person handling the case closed it... without a phone call or anything from Jackson Hewitt. So here I sit 3 months later got charged $350.00 and no return and no answer... oh except I have wait another 16 weeks for my return. NOW IF THAT ISN'T POOR BUSINESS... I don't know what is. Matter of fact that's pretty sorry and inexcusable!!!
Updated on 06/01/2018: So after writing a review a month ago and going back and forth with the so called customer service escalation dept still nothing resolved. I also got another letter from the IRS about a miscalculated 1040x form... doesn't surprise me. Jackson Hewitt is a joke and a rip off. I got charged for my check to be automatically deposited to my account and I received my check in the mail. The only response I have got is from another tax preparer that had no business giving a response. Corporate or regional manager has done nothing but cause me a lot of grief.
I filed my taxes on February the 15th and after all the unprofessional and mistakes made by Jackson Hewitt... I get my return finally on May 25th. They owe me my fees back and some because I am doing everything possible to close them down. Jackson Hewitt in the state of Tenn. you are not welcome and after looking at all the complaints all over the internet it won't take much... YOU'RE DONE!!!

I should have asked, but I thought they couldn't charge a lot to a person on social security with two annuities that were under $720; and I had all the figures and 1099s in order and itemized. The total was over $300 and with some bull crap discounts like seeing an advertisement on TV it was brought down to $287 which is outrageous for a senior's small income. I had been doing it on Taxact for under $20, and it was $29 this year on Turbotax. That's gouging. Needless to say, I'll never use them again.

Jackson Hewitt of Turnersville NJ (inside the Walmart Supercenter) prepared my taxes this year. The woman seemed very uneducated about the entire process. She had my fiancé (who was there and provided a driver's license) listed as my child. She called her manager during the appointment to double check her work. After we were done and had been issued our state and federal returns, we took our taxes to a different Jackson Hewitt office. They could not believe how badly this woman messed up our returns. The state was off by over $400. And the federal was off by over $600. So they filed amendments and now we are again waiting for returns. The good news is we will be getting our $1000+ back. The bad news is we paid this ridiculous office hundreds of dollars to short us $1000+. Thank goodness we felt so unsure of her work that we had a different office double check it. She should be fired.

I expressed how unbelievable that rate was, and he justified it with "due diligence and liability". I've worked in taxes before, and in no way is that a legitimate charge for an easy 1040. Still in contact with corporate, whom are not much better to deal with so far. Preparer called me like some hero to say he thinks I was overcharged. Went in to see him and he hands me a $100 bill. As upsetting as the situation was, that would have been uncalled for and it never happened. No one would deserve to be called a nasty name, especially against their race. Ever.
I can't believe this honestly. First, steal their money, refuse to fix a tax return and then accuse them of calling them an inappropriate name. All we can do is pray for people like this. There is enough anger to go around and not enough prayers. I don't know what this lady is thinking or why she would make up such lies. I know her job must be difficult. I normally do my own taxes but needed that advance to pay a bill, so went ahead and accepted their fee to complete my FEDERAL ONLY.
Shortly after I left that night from my appointment I received a email saying I did not get the advance. I feel this company does a SCAM with those advances, they prey on people's desperate moment with that advertising of ADVANCE MONEY NOW, and do not tell them the criteria they need to meet to get approved. I wish there was an option for "0" or negative digit stars. They left a W2 off the tax return which in turn caused back taxes to be owed, interest accrued on that amount, as well as penalties. When it was taken in to them, in order for them to honor their so-called "Gold Guarantee" that promises "reimbursement of penalties and interest charged by a taxing authority if a Jackson Hewitt tax preparer makes an error preparing your tax refund", they flat out refused stating that I gave up that entitlement when I signed the tax return and their form. Are you kidding me???!! The form I had signed was the one stating the tax return was correct to my knowledge.
So BEWARE that you will NOT actually be protected from error via their "Gold Guarantee". What was the point in my paying somebody to prepare my taxes if I basically needed to "prepare" them again in order to catch an error?? I made multiple unsuccessful attempts to contact their headquarters and lost countless hours attempting to retrieve the accurate phone number to headquarters. I was consistently given an incorrect number, a robotic system number that did not go anywhere other than in circles, or a number that only connected me to another local office which would in turn give me another one of the numbers mentioned above! We have been using TurboTax for the last 7 years to file our taxes; however this year we were in a bind and thought we might qualify to get the rapid refund from Jackson Hewitt. So, we go to a Walmart and step inside the lovely Jackson Hewitt "office", located right inside the money center! So we begin the process, he takes our IDs and enters our names into the computer, takes all of our W2s and other documents. We had 3 W2s, and IRA, and an OK tax document from the previous year. After he's done he comes back with the amount of like $7,000 dollars and I was blown away! When I had done an estimate through TurboTax our refund was $9,000. Then he says yada yada yada... after our fees your estimated refund is $6,000 and some odd dollars, WTF!? I was ready to walk out, and wish now that I would have!
He went on to talk about the refund anticipation loan and that we stood at about an 80% chance of being approved for it. That was the ONLY reason I stayed, because we were needing some of that cash ASAP. He talked more about that and took more time doing so than he did doing our taxes. An hour after we left we were notified that we did not qualify for the loan. After we get home, I went through the information and found out he had misspelled my last name. We also realized we had forgotten and he never once mentioned college, or itemized deductions, and charities we had donated to. We also noticed he signed us up for the gold package and he NEVER even told us what it was or anything, he never mentioned any packages! I was heated! So we begin the (short, so we thought!) process of filing a complaint on him and trying to get them to amend our return.
They said the IRS would kick it out because of the name, well they didn't! We went to their office (real office this time), twice trying to speak to a manager because we kept getting the run around on the phone. Both times we went we were never once greeted, and the 2nd time we had an appointment and still waited over an hour to be seen. The lady pretty much told us that we were just ** and had to deal with it. She said they'd do the amendment for free since they messed up, like those things cost any money anyway! She acted like they would be doing us this huge favor or something. I wanted to smack her and tell her I was doing her face a favor!!!
They were supposed to refund us the $75 for the gold package and someone was supposed to call us and see about getting some of the fees refunded also since he screwed us! It has been over a month and a half and we just got the check for the $75 today, and they STILL messed up my last name. They are NOT GOOD LISTENERS! We have yet to hear anything about refunding the preparer fees or filing a complaint on the preparer. My husband has called SEVERAL times and I told him to keep taking it higher and higher until someone resolves this to our liking! He calls, they say we'll call you back, they never do, he calls again and they're conveniently out of the office. I mean this whole ordeal has been a catastrophic nightmare!!! We had a few problems, we thought we would get a simple resolution and go on our way... NOPE!
These people are the kings and queens of BS and scamming people. So yeah if you want to be ignored when you walk into their office, have your taxes done wrong with the wrong last name, be charged a ridiculously crazy preparer fee, be signed up for something they just want to charge you for, be lied to, get the run around, lied to some more... then go with Jackson Hewitt. For sure, you won't be disappointed! If you want a good tax service use Turbo Tax and do it your damn self, at least you'll get your name right! Sorry for the long story, I'm a stickler for details???

Went to have my taxes done on Feb. 14th. I provided 3 W-2s. The preparer only entered 2 of them. I had no idea he did that because you don’t get an actual copy of your return. I was promised I would get a $3200 instant refund put on an American Express Serve card. I got $200. I was told I would get a permanent Amex Serve card in 7 to 10 days. I gave it 2 weeks and no card. I called Jackson Hewitt several times to find out what was going on. They couldn’t tell me anything. After 6 calls to Amex they finally told me that Jackson Hewitt entered my address wrong. Finally got my permanent card after a month.
I have tried to log into the Jackson Hewitt website to view my return and can not log in. Called them about it several times and got no help. Checked the IRS website and it tells me they have not received my tax return. Called Jackson Hewitt to discuss it with them. They get my info and log into their system and tell me it was accepted by the IRS. Funny, I called the IRS and was told they have not received my return. I filed a complaint with Jackson Hewitt and a regional manager called me. We discussed the issues with my return. He said he would investigate my issues and call me back. He never called back.
I have no idea what is going on with my return. I’ve been given the runaround every step of the way. I am supposed to be getting over $4000 back. I want my money. Also I was told I would get $100 for switching to Jackson Hewitt. What I actually got was a $100 discount coupon for Samsung products if I spend $500 or more on Samsung products at Walmart. In short everything they told me has been a lie. I believe nobody at Jackson Hewitt knows anything about taxes or how their system works. It’s completely false advertising on their part. If they don’t resolve these issues and get my refund immediately then my next step is to Georgia Department of Consumer Affairs. I have called the state and found out they have several complaints on file about Jackson Hewitt. Avoid them at all cost if you need your taxes done.

I went to file my taxes 1/19/18. I went in and did the and file for year 16 and year 17 for both property taxes and federal and state. I was supposed to get $10,668 back. I got a letter from the IRS stating that they messed up and added 1000 to my refund and so they had to adjust my refund and I’ll be getting nine 9100. OK that’s fine. I had some minor mistake. Well as the month goes by I got seven grand back. OK I’m still missing some of my money so I called IRS. They said they never received my file for 2016 and to contact the people who filed my taxes.
Well as I’m calling Jackson Hewitt to file a complaint these people said to wait 24 hours to get a phone call back from a manager and to going to the store with all my paperwork and they should be able to fix it. It’s just don’t go here. Don’t give your business to these people and then they charge me 1400 to file two years worth of W2s. If anyone feels robbed I sure the hell do and I have a disabled son. I just pray that someone helps me. I don’t know where to go. What to do and then I go on the lapis today but I really don’t know what to do from here but I am missing money and I have documentation paperwork. Don’t go to these people please. DON'T???

Going to Jackson Hewitt for tax prep was a huge mistake. When I phoned for appointment, I asked if they do taxes for trusts & estates & was told yes, so made appt. I drove 40 minutes & was there 10 mins early. I told the receptionist that the 4 pages I was asked to complete weren’t applicable to a trust, but filled in my personal info & waited for 32 minutes in the waiting area. No one else came in, & I wasn’t able to see the receptionist from where I sat. I finally went back to the desk & saw she was sitting behind the desk with headphones on, & asked if there was a problem because it was 20 mins past my appt. She told me to wait a minute & she would check. Someone else (I presume the manager Nicole who I had an appointment with) came to get me several minutes later. She never greeted me, but asked if I were the trust owner.
I said I was the Trustee, & she asked where the person who is the name of the trust was, & I answered “in heaven, I hope. She’s been dead a few years. I am the Trustee.” She said that she couldn’t help me because they don’t do Estate taxes. I said that I was told they do Estate & Trust taxes when I made the appointment. She said “No, I can’t help you”. I asked for the paper back that I filled out with my personal information, & she just stared at me. I had to physically take the paper from her. There was no way I was about to leave her with my personal information when they don’t even know what type of tax returns they are able to do. I wasted more than 2 hours & drove more than 60 miles for nothing. Too bad I didn’t spend that time reading reviews of the company instead of wasting time & gas for incompetency. Do not trust the Grand Rapids, Michigan Office to know what they are doing.

After asking 2 times (at the beginning AND) after I paid I asked if I was receiving reward card and was told I would be getting the card in the mail. Even made a comment that I was getting more from card than what I paid to which the prepped said what a good deal I was getting. Received letter today (stapled to a flyer) that said because I didn't spend 150$ I was ineligible.
I recalled and confirmed who I spoke with who said I would be getting the reward and she stated she was "not aware of the rules" but even though she misspoke and gave me bad information she couldn't do anything. I then called HQ in Lockport... After he called the tax preparer she stated she never told me I would be getting the card although we had just gotten off the phone and she confirmed what we discussed at my appointment. Well again this year they took my taxes because of student loans. So I went back and told them I needed to file injured spouse so we done the paperwork and the guy told me that a manager would be by to get it that same day. Went back three days later and it was still sitting in the file cabinet and the form wasn't even filled out correctly so we had to reprint it and get it sent off. I went back the next day and it still had not been sent off and again had to reprint it because the person that was suppose to have it done did not sign the paper. If I could give a lower rating than 1 star - I would. I filed my taxes with Jackson Hewitt in January, as I have done for the past 3-4 years. Typically I have had zero issues. Direct deposit went through perfectly every year. I was very happy. This year, it seemed everything went alright. Then, I found out when my state taxes went through that my tax preparer put in my bank account information wrong. She added 3 numbers that existed nowhere on my voided check. So I was called in to pick up the check for that refund the SAME DAY I would have gotten direct deposit. Not a problem. I was told my federal return would work the same exact way.
I received an email of the date my federal return was expected. I received no phone call. It said deposited by 2/22 but call 2/27 if it was still not received. I called 2/26 and the employee who answered said he didn't know and would call me back. No return call. I received a call on 2/28/2018 and was asked to come in and sign a form because there was a glitch in the system and they would reissue me a check the same day. I stopped in, signed the form, and did not receive a check. The man told me someone would call me within an hour. No one called me. I called 3/1/2018 and the female employee working had absolutely no idea what I was talking about. I called 3/2/2018 and no one answered the entire day (they are supposed to be open for business from 11am-7pm).
I called 3/3/2018 and asked her to look it up by my social security number. She did, and found that the check HAD BEEN ISSUED on 2/21/2018 - but never printed in the office, and she could not print it or find it. She called the bank and the bank apparently told her they took it back since it was not printed within 5 days, and they would cancel that and reissue a new one in 2 business days. I called 3/6/2018, and was told the check was still not there, and the bank has no idea when it will be but I'll receive a call right away and that Jackson Hewitt cannot steal my money. No one called me back, so I called again on 3/7/2018.
Finally I reached someone who seemed to know what she was talking about and has been with the company for over 10 years. She said my check showed expired as of 3/3/2018, that no one can call the bank and "cancel" a check, and she typically sees a new check printed in 72 hours of this "expired" message. I am still waiting for my return, and I am going on 2 weeks AFTER the date I SHOULD have received it. Customer service was not any help the 4 times I called to complain and seek assistance. I was never contacted by a manager or district manager when I had been told numerous times I would be. This was the worst experience I have ever had and I will never return, nor recommend to a single person I know to come here.

Please do not file your taxes at Jackson Hewitt. Instead, use a free tax preparation software program. The company & its partners are SCAMMING, DECEIVING, AND TAKING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY. I have heard many stories like the ones printed here, and the stories are true. The leadership of the company obviously doesn't care, because nothing is being done to correct these issues. The poor unsuspecting taxpayers are left "holding the bag", and dealing with penalties & fines imposed by the IRS & state, when the ill-prepared "tax professionals" make mistakes on filing their tax returns. The company ALSO charges EXORBITANT tax preparation fees, which are NOT reasonable. There are many other problems that taxpayers encounter as well.
What I found interesting is that approximately 80% of Jackson Hewitt's customers are MINORITIES & LOW INCOME taxpayers, so my question is, "why such UNREASONABLY HIGH tax preparation fees?" I worked there, but when I began hearing the horrid stories, (like what you are reading), from consumers nationwide, I knew I couldn't be a part of any company that scams, deceives, and rips off hard working people, (or anyone for that matter). I find it very interesting that the Jackson Hewitt mantra is, "Jackson Hewitt is Working Hard for the Hardest Working People"... REALLY... NOT!
Actually, the company needs to be investigated and I believe a "class action suit" will follow, once taxpayers are contacted for their testimonies. I honestly feel that the entire operation is a RACKET, and it needs to be "shut down", so JACKSON HEWITT can no longer scam, deceive & rip off the taxpayers. Please investigate JACKSON HEWITT, and their HORRIFIC business practices. The consumers NEEDS to be heard and protected, and this RACKET needs be ANNIHILATED.

I didn't receive a copy of my 1040 and wasn't able to retrieve it in the format of the 1040 form online like I was told to get it.

I then receive a letter from the IRS saying I need to sent in a 8962 along with 1095a. I went back to Jackson and asked them to do that for me they wanted to charge me an additional fee of 75.00. I said no, and called their complaint department. They said someone will call me back. Then I was told that they took my whole state return 750.00 for the advance and 197.00 for partial payment of service.
I want a full refund of service because I was never given a completed a copy of the 1040 form and was given the wrong information in regards the way the payment will be made and how my tax was being sent. I thought I would try Jackson Hewitt again after not using them for a while. Big mistake. First off the man who has the local franchise makes preparers go home if there are no customers which means that there is only one preparer in the office most days DURING TAX SEASON! I had my taxes started by one person but we had to put the return on hold because I had an incorrect form. She told me that all the prepares have years of experience so I could come back any time to finish my return without an appointment. Again, big mistake. The woman I went to the following week could not even use the lockbox keypad to get into the office. Anyway, as simple as it seemed to me to have her finish the return it took her 2 hours to work it out and she still didn't know what to do with the 1099B.
I did try to leave several times but was uncomfortable that she would mess up the sections of the return that had already been completed. And, she had to call the manager several times during my appointment to find out where certain sections where on her screen. I finally left. I went back a third time, had a 4:00 pm appointment - one preparer and 2 families ahead of me... At 6:00 pm I finally got to sit with the preparer to finish my return. Unbelievable! He fumbled around and didn't give me a form I requested - told me to come back another day for the local tax form. I said he better get it sorted because I was not coming back. He called the manager several times to ask basic questions he should have known the answers to if he really knew his job.
I didn't feel confident at all that my taxes were correct so I asked a few questions but didn't get a good feeling about the responses. Then he asked how I wanted to pay for the service before he even told me what the refund was going to be. He told me the fee was $450.00. I told him that was outrageous and demanded a discount which he reluctantly gave me after he called the manager again. I paid, he pushed some papers around the desk, put some in an envelope and handed it to me. I was so annoyed after having waited 2 hours I walked out and decided to review the 1040 when I got home. Well, when I got home there was no 1040 in the envelope. Just some papers about how to plan for retirement etc. I was furious, but, he never explained that I could print the document myself from their website (had to do my own research to find out that information).
FOR THE PRICE I WAS CHARGED THEY SHOULD HAVE PRINTED OUT THE 1040 FOR ME IN THE OFFICE. And, I never did get the local tax form, had to get it from another source. It was such an awful experience having to go back twice after the first visit to deal with totally incompetent people. There was a great deal more that added to my frustration that I will leave out of this review. I will not EVER go back to Jackson Hewitt and I would hope that other people read these reviews/complaints before they venture into a Jackson Hewitt to get ripped off.

So for the last ten plus years I have filed my own taxes this year I however decided to use Jackson Hewitt after a friend recommended them since you can get the express refund advance. I myself was against this from the start because I know it’s usually just too costly but we really needed the money sooner this year so we decided to give it a whirl! Well that turned out to be a huge mistake!!!
We made our appointment and the lady told us that the amount you get is based upon your tax return amount so we assumed (which yes you should never do) we would get the 3,200 back without a problem since with our state and feds we get about 4,800 back. Well that surely wasn't the case!! We did all the paperwork. Never once was any of the details that is in the paperwork ever gone over with us in person! She prepared our taxes and then gave us the grand total of 380.95 to prepare our taxes and apply for the loan. So we decided I guess it would be fine to lose the extra 280.00 to get some money a bit faster since I know everybody needs to make something I get that...
Anyway she said well you guys sign the form which is on a little electronic pad so we both sign and then all of a sudden she starts sending our signature to all these others forms that we were never shown or were they gone over with us about she said was just the stuff about the loan information and tax stuff. We never thought much about any of it. The lady gave us our paperwork and gave us the American Express card to activate which is where in a few hours 2-4 she said you will get your money. She told us we would get a text when the money funded well many hours later still no text as stated so I decided to call my card. Well my shock when I called the card and the money was there a whopping 500.00.
I was shocked to say the least as this was not what I expected. So my husband called the lady who prepared our taxes pretty upset and asked what’s up with the amount. You said it was based on the amount we were getting back in taxes and said she didn't see any problem with us getting the whole 3200. She said she was very surprised and didn't know why it was that way so she gave us a number to call corporate and talk with them and make a complaint. Well they weren't helpful at all and gave us another number to call then we talked with a lady and filed a complaint with her. Told her how dissatisfied we were with this process and how that they never went over any of the details with us in person. We felt as if we were scammed! Why on earth would we pay 380.95 to only get back 500.00. Makes no sense why would we do that?!?
Well as my husband was speaking with this lady I was reading all the paperwork that came in our tax folder from the lady that she printed off for us and electronically transferred our signatures without going over this paperwork and there I read the “fine" print and there is where it states when you apply to get the up to 3200 loan you may only get 100, 200, 500, 750, 1300, or max amount of 3200!! Not once during this tax preparation was this explained to us or gone over which is totally why we felt scammed! Which hence why my husband was filing a complaint. This was on Jan 26th and we were told we would have a call back from a "higher up" within 24 to 48 hrs!
Well today is Feb. 16th and we are still waiting on this call... Lol you keep waiting because they don't care if they follow up or not all they want is your money!! More like scam. You outta your money!! Fast forward back to today’s date Feb.16th so I see my state income tax was sent to us on the 15th of Feb. according to the state site so I call the tax office once again to see why the money wasn't funded to our card and she said she didn't know she would make a call and find out.
Well when we originally filed our taxes we were told the money to pay the tax fee and the loan money would come out of our federal money so that's what we expected. Well wrong!! The tax lady did call us back and tell us they the money funded on the 14th of Feb. according to Jackson Hewitt (which was not the same as the state site hmm... odd) and they took our state money to pay the loan back which would have been fine if they at least we're honest and told you that upfront!!
I'm am so extremely dissatisfied and feel as if we have been scammed!! They should have to tell you all this upfront which they don't and that's very unprofessional in my mind and feel as if they are purposely not telling you this or training their staff properly! I feel bad as the lady who prepared our taxes was very nice but now they have to deal with people like us because they aren't trained properly to explain this stuff or perhaps they don't want to tell this because they would lose out on a lot of money! I would have been better off to file my own like I always have and it would have saved myself the extra money!
When speaking with the lady today she said she was glad we called because they had no idea that they would be taking people's state also, if it comes first they were never told that and while she was looking into our stuff she already had another call concerning the same issue where was their state money? Lol. She said at least she knows now and can know what to tell them but feels bad that they were never told this to be able to inform clients! So my advice is beware when dealing with Jackson Hewitt because all they care about is getting your money and have absolutely no care in the world if they live up to their word as a business!!
They also included in our paperwork. The instructions to log on to their website to be able to access your paperwork for yourself. Well that doesn't work either and when I called the lady and told her this. She really thought I was wrong. Well imagine her surprise when she went and looked and said, "Oh boy you are right!?" I just said, "Yeah I tried to tell you the printed out instructions that your company printed for your guys to give out to clients is not correct and they still have not fixed the problem which is extremely unprofessional!!" They care more about just taking your money and who cares about the service you get! As of today’s date I still can’t log on to their site and view any of my information! I would never recommend them to anyone nor will I ever use this service again! It is a very hard lesson learned! Beware!!

They told me I'd be getting the advance loan with my last pay stubs. This did not happen. They said they wouldn't actually file until they received my W2s. That was a lie. They submitted without them and one was incorrect and then they missed one completely. No one answers the phone. No one is helpful. My state taxes are now being held because of them and I needed the money. I will probably lose my place and car maybe due to their errors.

Giving this company a 2nd chance was a mistake. After having my 2010 taxes messed up to the point I was awarded the 5000 Gold Guarantee I vowed to never allow Jackson Hewitt to prepare my taxes again. Instead I learned how to prepared them my self. However this year I decided to give Jackson Hewitt another chance. This turned out to be a mistake. Prior to getting my taxes done I explained to the tax preparer some of my concerns. The preparer nicely avoided some of my question regarding the fees, If I qualify for the RAL loans.
After waiting 4 days I contacted the main office and was notified that my taxes were not even filed because there was some question. I was waited another 3 days before calling again to see why my tax pro hadn't bother to contact me. Due to my lack of confidence in the preparer I requested that my returns be sent to another office.
For nearly a week none of my question were answered, I kept being bounce around to several different locations in the Grand Rapids area meanwhile has bothered to communicate with me regarding My taxes. After being sent to 4 four different locations before ending up at despite having a appointment I had never been so disrespected. Eventhough I was given several apologies I will never have Jackson Hewitt prepare my taxes again. To prevent this from happening to someone else I am volunteering to prepare anyone taxes in the Grand Rapid Wyoming Area Free of Charge.

This is my first year using Jackson Hewitt and I am very disappointed in how it went. I decided to go with my fiance to file our taxes. I filed separately from him. I called before we went to make sure we would be seen. The woman told me she had nothing else for the day and of course we could walk in (the one in Walmart). When we got there she said, "I have two appts so I won’t be able to get to you until an hour or so". It's 5pm I’m starting to get annoyed since we talked 30 minutes ago but things happen so we wait... and wait... and wait until it is 7:30 and I’m sick of waiting. I walk into her booth and ask if we can finish tomorrow. She said, "Sure. Come by the actual Jackson Hewitt building". It's 10:30am the next day... she’s not there!
So we are filing with someone else and then she shows up 11:00 and takes me to another room to file. She says nothing about the fees besides the $36 to get it in a check. When we got done she had charged me $575 to file. I spent almost 2 hrs to have my taxes filed while listening to her drone on about her personal life and they said, "We will call when your return comes in." Well I left a bad survey and they refuse to call so now I have to call to find out when my return will be there. Please go anywhere else to file your taxes. These people are scamming you.

I made an appt, to get my taxes done (I usually do them myself), so that I could get the Express Refund. First off, she didn't have my appointment and was getting ready to leave, but was nice enough to do my taxes for me real quick, while her daughter walked in and out looking over her shoulder at my information, not acceptable. Then she quickly finished my taxes and told me the fee, which was over $350. I have never paid that in my life and even at that point she couldn't tell me if I would get the express refund. A day later I call to see why I haven't heard anything and I'm told I was denied the Express Refund and I told them that was the biggest waste of money and they told me they can't do anything to help me.

Then the attendant; Shalda ** took an hour to enter all my information and then made me sit and wait another 45 minutes while someone else checked her work???Then the sign said a fee would be about $40.00?? She tells me that I'm to pay $334.00?? I had a personal CPA do my taxes last year and only charged me $250.00 and I didn't sit around and wait. When I asked why I was being charged so much she didn't know
After taking their survey of which I told my poor experience; I get an email days later; that they had been trying to contact me? They had my phone number and I had not received any phone calls at all; lies!!!
Updated on 06/13/2018: I decided to try Jackson Hewitt because I had paid my CPA for 2016 $250.00 and the sign at Walmart showed starting at $40? I made my first appt for 2/5/2018 and had to sit and wait for the agent for over 30 minutes! She was very unprofessional and filed my taxes incorrectly; she forgot to enter all of my contributions of which I gave her my documents! She stated that I owed the IRS $2,661.00 and then proceeds to state that I had to pay $334.00 for her sorry services? So I made another appt for 2/12/2018 to get an amended tax forms of which this agent found that I only owed $511.00? So I sent my check certified mail to the IRS on 2/13/2018 of which they cashed my check on 2/21/2018!
Then June 9, 2018 I received a letter from the IRS stating that I owed them $2,186.28 with failure to pay fees and interest charges? So I set up another appt for Tuesday, June 12, 2018 for 10:00 am; of which I arrived at 9:45 and the office was closed; so I stood outside in the heat waiting until 10:10 am and called the number provided to ask where was the agent? I was told that she was stuck in traffic and on her way? I stood outside waiting until 10:25 am when she finally arrived? After expressing my frustrations; all the agent who was not professionally dresses told me "She would look into my issue?" So after calling the IRS and waiting another 10 minutes just to get an agent; the agent confirms that they had received the amended tax forms on 2/17/2018 but that it had not been processed yet? And that it might take up to 30 days to process?
I left the Jackson Hewitt office at 11:05 am; I got home and decided to call for a supervisor to request my refund for the time that I'd spend printing all my documents and having to wait outside their office for the agent; come to find out the agent was the supervisor and that she would file my request for a refund but that the lady who does them only looks at them once a month? And that I'd have to wait?? Then the very next day, at 9:00 am I received an email from Jackson Hewitt, stating "We missed you?" So I called them to state that I was at the appt the previous day and she just said that it was automatically sent??? This company is a poor excuse of a company and are not knowledgeable about how to file your taxes correctly! Do not waste any time with them or pay for their sorry services! You will regret it! I certainly did!!

Terrible experience! Upon arriving at Jackson Hewitt, I asked upfront what fees would be charged and was told fees are charged depending on how many papers they would need to prepare. My form was yet simple! First time I came in with check stubs at that time I didn't have my 1040s and was told no problem! Interesting! So with that being said I started being charged 400 plus then I came back with my W-2s and was told now the charges were 569 dollars. Why? MY main problem is how did they arrive to this conclusion about what the charges are and why aren't there any breakdowns of this on paper. Why are there additional charges if you say I just need my check stubs for that sorry 200 advance. So sad how they take advantage of people. How do they sleep at night! Taking food out of people's mouths. Lesson learned. Burn me once but you won't burn me twice!

This is my second year filing with Jackson Hewitt. Last year, I filed with them not only for the refund advance but because it was my first time having to file married jointly and my husband’s first time filing taxes in like 10 years. The preparer was really nice, however, we were not told about the fees in advance. So, today - 2/4/18 - we go and file our taxes at the same location with the same preparer because we need the refund advance again. Mind you, I had already started my own tax return with TurboTax who estimated my tax refund to be a little over $4500. We go, everything gets put in, all the same info, but our refund with JH comes out to be over $1000 less than what Turbo said it would be.
We ask and the preparer says we made more this year than last year but less taxes were taken out (which doesn’t make ANY sense coz I filled out my W4 so more taxes were withheld from my paycheck than needed). I even told her that TurboTax estimated our refund to be more and she just shrugged it off. I guess the good news is that we were already approved for the refund advance and we’ve gotten it, but after that gets deducted, and the tax prep fees, we’re only going to get like $1800 as a refund which is about 50% less than what we got back last year when we made less in 2016. Next year, I’ll just go through TurboTax.

BUT this year when I find out H&R Block was no longer doing the Emerald Card and Advance, I looked at JH to see they were doing a pre qualified service that I did do. I was qualified for $750 and they have me a code to give the tax lady. I went and filed and have her the numbers and she told me not to put the code in because I should be approved for more.
I drove over a hour and dismissed the annoying fact of how they disburse my money to get the much needed advance. Needless to say I didn't get the guaranteed and it really hurt us when we started to count on that. Also... IN set up their little tax station right by the front registers at a loud Walmart and by the emergency exit and bathroom. So imagine a Lois, cold area that smelled like **. Emphasis on **. I nearly vomited multiple times. Plus they ran out of paper and were not able to give me any paper documents. Also their fee was a lot larger than that of H&R Block. They told us that we should have no issues at all getting that instant refund since we were already pre approved. In the past we have filed ourselves with Turbo Tax to save money on fees. We only used this service this time because of the preapproval we received.
Long story short we ended up paying over $400 in fees to file and an hour later after receiving our refund card we were told that we had been denied our instant refund. I would recommend not using this company. We felt as if this was a scam to get people to file for more money in fees and it was a huge waste of our time and money! I went to JH solely BECAUSE they advertised the "rapid refund", I filed, they explicitly told me that it would be "no more than 24 hours" before I would have money on their American Express card that they hand out. Here we are, 84 hours later, and NO MONEY!! I usually can't get ahold of anyone to answer my questions, and when I do they just try to say that there is nothing they can do--that it looks like the IRS approved the refund, and now it's stuck at the bank that handles the CCard.
SOMEONE should be held accountable for their false advertisement (JH, the IRS, or the bank) but SOMEONE, out of THREE AGENCIES, should be held responsible for doing their job!! I know that if I don't do MY job correctly, as expected, not only can people die, but I can lose my job, and every effort will be afforded to make it right. People--like myself--make life choices based on financial expectations, promised to us by these agencies. This type of business practice is unacceptable and should not be tolerated. This company should be put out of business!

Well I decided after it was all said and done to pull up my documents online and review my tax return and I noticed a total of $578 total charges of fees taken. $509 alone was one fee. When I called to asked what that were the fees for the rep’s response was that it’s the fee to prepare the documents. To me that is absolutely unheard of over five hundred dollars just to prepare paperwork, better yet just to put my information into a computer. I will never go to Jackson Hewitt to file again and I will be sure to let everyone know because it shouldn't cost almost six hundred dollars in fees just do my tax return for that I could have done it online and paid less than $100.

I filed my 2015 taxes in 2016 at the Jackson Hewitt office in Suisun City, CA. The tax preparer made 2 mistakes. One, she checked the box that said we didn't have medical insurance, the second mistake stated that we paid more than double the amount in property taxes than we actually paid. In 2016, we were fined $ 1500, because of the medical insurance mistake. I had to ask our tax preparer from H & R Block to correct the mistakes made by Jackson Hewitt, since the representatives had no idea how to fix it. In October 2017, I received another letter from the IRS stating that I owed $3,000 thanks to another mistake made by the same rep on my 2015 taxes. This time, it was due to the amount she incorrectly calculated for paid property taxes. She doubled the amount and now we're stuck with the bill. I've tried to get the mistakes corrected by Jackson Hewitt because I paid extra for the Gold Assurance guarantee.
I took a day off in November to drive all the way to Sacramento since the Suisun office is only open during tax season. The woman at the Sacramento office was extremely unprofessional, and said that she would file a claim for me but did not provide paperwork or anything. She said I had to wait 6 weeks for an answer. I made over 24 calls because I never received anything in the mail, and later found out she didn't file anything at all. I've been transferred from one manager to another, and the problem is still there. I scheduled an appointment with the Suisun office to get this corrected and when I showed up, no one was there to meet with me. I'm beyond frustrated and feel that Jackson Hewitt staff are unprofessional and act as though they aren't responsible to correct their mistakes. I keep getting the run around, and have no idea how to get them to fix the problem they created.

It took 2 visits totaling around 3 hours to complete my taxes that usually take me 20 minutes on TurboTax. I live about an hour away - very inconvenient. Issue #1: Breach of contract. The preparer stated (in the presence of myself and a witness) that I would receive my email informing me of my advance amount within one hour and my advance would be in my bank account within 24 hours. Both untrue. JH CS was very rude and not at all helpful when I pointed this out. Karen at CS tried to condescend to me about wishing I had been approved for a larger advance. I reminded her that was not the nature of my complaint. My complaint is chiefly about breach of contract, mistakes unaddressed, and false advertising. Inconvenience, incompetence, and rudeness notwithstanding.
Issue #2: Mistakes were made on my return. I pointed them out to the preparer, and she never addressed them. I had already run my taxes on TurboTax. One mistake is that the balance didn’t change after she entered daycare credit. I am eligible for daycare credit. Because I used TT, I know precisely how much that should have affected my return. This was after I had to pressure her to enter the daycare info bc she didn’t want to fix it. Another issue is that the preparer stated I am -required- to claim business expenses for my student support business. This is detrimental to my case, and my expenses are minimal and not provable since I never kept receipts. And it is not required by the IRS - others including a private CPA, H&R Block, and TurboTax never required this.
Issue #3: The pre-approved refund advance from JH website is a lie. JH CS -says- it’s irrelevant and just a marketing tool. Obviously, but it’s also a serious blight on the company’s integrity. It is, in fact, false advertising. Other issues abound, such as Kim, the area manager being even more rude and LYING, saying there is no CS escalation available to me to address these issues. Clearly there is — they reply to people on this forum regularly! Redeem JH in the eyes of the public, escalation department! Let’s hear how you address these serious flaws, constituting in a couple instances criminal activity.

We decided to go with JH this year due some minor financial issues in the past year and it was my daughter's sixteenth birthday and we were hoping to do something special for her. So we saw the Advance Refund advertised, did some research, (pre-qualify) etc. Everything seemed all good. So, we met with Susan our preparer, she was nice, seemed knowledgeable and we proceeded to move forward. With everything verified and in order we received our temporary card and we were informed that we should be receiving our advance in a couple of hours at the most. She even "checked" the website to be sure the card got registered etc. All Good.
Forty five minutes later we receive an email stating we were denied. No reason. We would be receiving something in the mail in thirty days. So I called JH. Susan was gone, I spoke with Patty who told me that JH has no control over anything to do with Advance Refund, it is all up to Metabank, and to call the number on the back of the temporary card. Then she hung up. I called the number, all automated responses. I searched the web and attempted to contact Metabank from numbers I found. All Automated responses. No Humans, No help. I then attempted to contacted JH through other customer service numbers. Again Automation, No help.
I was forced to return home and cancel most of the plans we had for my daughter's sixteenth birthday. I am beside myself with anger and disappointment. JH will not again receive my business. I don't know if anyone from JH or MetaBank will read this or even care but I now that I have filed this here, my wife is simultaneously on her rather extensive amounts of social media accounts relaying her feelings. In that time, I have never had issue... until 2018 for the tax prep of year 2017. I have utilized the same location for the past 7 years. This location seems to have a very low staff turnover rate and the faces are generally familiar from year to year. The staff is and always has been very courteous and professional. My issue was with the services this year. This is what happened to me; I, like quite a few others on here, am in a bit of financial distress due to the company that I was with for the past 21 years recently eliminating my position. I went to JH a few weeks ago, with my pay stub and was allotted a $400.00 loan/advance on my tax return. I recently received my W-2 and went back to JH, on 1/24/18 to complete my return and hopefully qualify for the remaining $2,800.00 advance.
The tax preparer had worked with me in the past and was very pleasant and efficient. She had everything completed for me, to my satisfaction, in approx. 20 minutes. I was told that I did qualify for an advance and that by this being the finalization of my 2017 tax return, it would take a bit longer for the advance to load on my card as all of my return data would need to process first but that I should receive a text/email within around 4 hours. I left the office at around 1:20pm. I never received any word so I called the office to touch base around 6:30pm that evening. I was told that the manager would give me a call back before closing.
The manager did call me back and again, was very courteous. He told me that the system was having some issues, that nothing was wrong with my return and that they had been seeing these advances taking up to 24 hrs to load and that I should call back around 1:30pm the next day if nothing had happened by then. Nothing happened so I called the office back at around 1:30pm on 1/25/18. I was told that this office location was having some system issues, that my return was "stuck" and that they were doing everything in their power to resolve the issue. I went online to the IRS website and found that the IRS had no information on my return (this made sense given that they aren't accepting returns until 1/29). I called the office back at 6:30pm to find out if any resolution to the issue had been found.
At this time I was told that the IRS had run some "hub tests" on my return as well as some other folks and that something had gone wrong with processing and these returns were stuck. I called back today around noon to ask about resolution and at this time I was told that this was in the hands of the IRS and that this JH had nothing to do with this issue nor could JH do anything about it and that they did not know when resolution would be found, that resolution would be up to the IRS... The person was not rude. They were even apologetic. The fees for the advance are not very high at all, $49.95 in fact. The fees for tax prep is a good bit more but it is us folks that need the advance(s) that are willing to pay those fees for simple, straightforward returns. It has just been a disappointing, frustrating experience this year, again, not with the staff, they have been as helpful as they could be.

This was my first time using JH services, for years I have been using Turbo Taxes, Which I wish I would have done this year. I applied for an advance, but before doing so, I asked what the bank's criteria was. I was told as long as I did not owe the IRS, student loans, and so on, I would be approved. Ok, so I applied for the loan. I was given an American Express Serve card and told that I should get an email shortly after I left. Well, I never received an email that day. I called the next day and the lady was really nice and stated that they were having trouble, but I should receive an email shortly. I received the email and was denied. I was really upset because I would have NEVER applied for it, if I wasn't sure I would be approved. I also was upset because if it's an advance "LOAN" the employees should know what the bank's criteria is, so that people do not waste time or money on these services because they are not cheap.

Went in to JH to get taxes done and get an advance loan. Preapproved for 500. Got home. Checked my email. Denied! No explanation or anything. 50 dollar non- refundable fee. Just a Batman scheme to make 50 extra dollars per person. I'm highly upset. This was my first year at JH, and it's safe to say it's my last year. Thanks for misleading JH. No recommendations this way.

Went to local Jackson Hewitt office for the pre approved $1000. Well we always used turbo tax in the past and already figured that we would receive around $5000 back. We sat there for about a hour and was told that we would only receive around $3000 back and that the fee for the service would be $495. We questioned her about the discrepancy in the two taxes and she stated that we couldn't use our Daughter who is 16 saying that the cut off age to was 15 for a tax credit.
We ran our taxes thru a couple of online services and all were within $50 of turbo tax and also check the IRS website to find out that the child tax credit cutoff is 19. Turbo tax changes nothing to file taxes but a $29 fee for audit protection which is a guarantee that they have done it right. We never have had a problem with turbo tax. We were lured in by the $1000 online guarantee and after reading a lot of reviews that just what it is a lure. We are very happy that we didn't spend a penny with Jackson Hewitt and went with turbo tax. I feel really sad that so many people were fooled in a false advertising scheme. It's also sad that a company like Jackson Hewitt is behind it. Save your money and go elsewhere! Reviews tell all just read them.

Went into local office in Dec 2017. Received 400 loan with no problem. However, I received my W2 and my husband W2. Went in and finish our taxes which took only 5 minutes and normally we are there for already 30. The tax preparer stated I should receive a email or text in the next few hours. Never heard anything. I waited until the next day. Couldn't get an answer about it from no one at office so I called customer service and the person informed me a application was never submitted so I go back into office.
Was reassured everything was done and 3 days later haven't heard anything and called customer service 4 times to finally have someone take a report to send it to a c.s manager and wait another 48 hours. What really startled me is when this person told me it looked like my taxes weren't finished and submitted. This is very upsetting to know that no one at this company knows what is going on. I have been a loyal customer for 10 plus years until now. Next year I will be going somewhere else.

I am currently in danger of losing my home due to my seasonal sales job ending sooner than we'd been told, and car repairs draining my rent fund. After spending a stressful day calling every church & gov agency I could find, getting told "Sorry, no funds!" I happened to receive a W2 in the mail earlier than we'd been told to expect them... which made me realize that instead of using TurboTax like I've done for the last 5 years, MAYBE I COULD GET ONE OF THOSE 1000$ TAX ADVANCE loans and save my toddler & I having to go to a shelter. It was a ray of hope in a crappy situation. So, I tried to look up what criteria was used to determine someone's approval or not. But all I could seem to find was the actual page for the bank, Meta. They advertised that I could "Check and see if you are qualified before going all the way into the local office!" GREAT I thought.
Entered all my info, waited, waited. Nothing. Finally it spit out a number-750$. Well, it's no 1000 but considering rent is only 625, it would at least catch me up on that, which was the main concern. I made SURE that I clicked small print and all, since I actually work in Customer Service and am very well versed in what can be hidden in the fine print. I even took down the "loan confirmation number" so that I could SHOW a local agent. So we get to the tax place, I go in, it sit... and wait and wait and wait... and finally they start going my return, the guy ended up counting my income incorrectly! So we get that all sorted, this all took under 30 minutes, we're wrapping up, he gets on their site and brings something up on screen and has me sign, never even read what I was signing, and suddenly he's putting papers in a folder and hands me a tower of paperwork. I asked ok, when do I get the loan, advance, whatever. He says that they will email me soon.
I almost died at them charging a fee just so you can pay your fines out of the return when it comes in. And, of course I get home and they sent an email saying I was DENIED for ANY Tax Advance loan whatsoever. I feel like they are deliberately misleading people, AND withholding relevant info as to what criteria the bank decides to use to verify these "prequalifications"... because I think it was just a spoof site and EVERYONE who applies there is "prequalified". That way you'll come in expecting you're getting the loan but it's really not. PLUS they charged me 359$ for a VERY SIMPLE, 2 jobs and 1 college, easy positive tax return!!! I'd HATE to see what anyone who's in any remotely difficult tax situation gets charged. I will literally never go here again, plus the worker was very rude and hardly spoke so I could understand him and the manager was doing her nails. Such a bad awful loss of tax money.

After getting to the office 10 minutes before my appointment I was read it. Greeted very rudely by a gentleman then I had a wait for 36 minutes after my appointment. Then when my wife presented her ID he said it was a fake, we told him she went to the DPS that day and she had her expired state issued ID with the new state issued paper I.D. only a couple hours old. He then told us he could not use that that it could be a fake. He was very rude and almost told us that it was us trying to commit fraud.
After being greeted so rudely, after being had to wait for an additional 30 minutes, after our appointment time and then told that the ID was not valid even though it was a state ID and the lady we spoke to the 1st visit said that would be fine we left. I am very unhappy and want to know will I still be charged a processing fee if I decide to get my taxes done elsewhere. I understand I will have to pay back the advance which is not a problem but do not wanna get my tax as processed with them but also don't wanna have to pay the processing fee. If I do have to pay the processing fee then I will get my taxes done with them but otherwise I would like to go somewhere else and get my taxes done. Can someone please advise me.

Well just like everyone else on the 18th of December I went in hoping to get the $1000 I was preapproved for, well like most found out I only got approved for 200$ and I would get the 800$ when I bring in the W-2’s. I was like cool no problem. That’s not what y’all advertised but whatever. So I did that today and instead of getting 800$ I got 3000$. Freakin awesome!! But they have to mail the check to me because the American Express serve card they provided me I was denied for.
Why provide a card to your customers when there is a chance they will get denied access to use them? Why the hell would they use a prepaid card that’s not issued by MetaBank? If MetaBank realizes there is an issue with direct deposit they should email you or call to see if there is an alternative bank you would like them to transfer it to. As long as I can verify my identity it shouldn’t be a problem. Jackson Hewitt and MetaBank need to improve customer service drastically. I will never go back there again.

I've used TurboTax VERY happily for the past 3 years. This year finances have been pretty tight, so I decided to try to take advantage of the refund advance option. I was "prequalified" for $1000 on the website, so I made an appointment, thinking even if I didn't get the full $1000, I would get SOMETHING. My refund is always $4000+, so that seemed like a reasonable assumption. And of course, they denied me for any amount. I have no tax offsets and my tax situation hasn't changed - I get the same amount every year, within a couple hundred dollars or so. So not only did I not get the loan I needed, I am now out almost $400... and for what? The loan aside, the fees they charge are outrageous. My tax situation is as simple as they come, and I was in and out within 30 minutes. I hate to imagine what people with less straightforward taxes pay.
Moral of the story, if you are considering going into Jackson Hewitt because you think you're going to get part of your refund a little faster, just don't. Don't be a sucker like me. Even if you happen to get approved based on whatever criteria they use, it's really not worth the cost of their service. The people who come in to get tax refund advances/loans are typically people who need money the most - people in poverty, with children, with bills they can't afford to pay. Jackson Hewitt is just preying on these people, throwing that "prequalified" line out there, knowing they can raise their fees and people will pay them just because they need money so badly... and then they may not even get it? It's disgusting. How about let customers know if they qualify for the advance BEFORE the return is finalized and we pay your crazy frees, JH? THAT would be customer service.

I went into the tax office last year first time ever. They prepared my taxes. And I never received my refund... I received a bill this year and I called them on several occasions inquiring... When I received my W2 I set an appointment and went in and I was told it was something wrong with my taxes but technically it was the fact that the tax preparer had entered my son's name and social security number incorrect. And the head manager was rude and told me that I needed to contact the IRS and they wouldn't do anything until I paid the fees from last year and that I would not be able to file ever until then.
She also went in and said I didn't come to the appointment. In which video surveillance will prove I clearly did as well as location on my phone as well as my tax return documents that shows where she input last year information wrong as well as the printout with the error on it and the photo I took of my information that she said she couldn't print for me off the computer and I downloaded my information (tax forms) from my dashboard on Jackson Hewitt.

So this year I decided to file my taxes through Jackson Hewitt only because I had heard they were offering an advance refund which I normally wouldn't have done but the end of last year was tough for my 3 children and I and I needed the emergency funds. I filed with them on January 13th and I have yet to see the advance refund that I was approved for. My advance refund was supposed to be direct deposited so I just figured because of the holiday it was taking a little longer. So Wednesday I decided to call my bank and they stated no funds yet. I called the local Jackson Hewitt office right away.
I spoke to the man who I filed with, I asked him to verify with me what account info he had for me. He gave me the right account number but a totally different routing number. I told him that was not my routing number, I told him I had given him a piece of paper with that information and I had all the documents that I had given him that day right in front of me. All that this man told me was that he was sorry that there was nothing that he could do now. Not only did my advance refund get done incorrectly, now my state and federal refunds will have to be mailed to me in a check!!!
This is what I DID NOT WANT because I don't live in a very safe neighborhood. I do everything electronically for that matter!! I decided to take matters into my own hands so I contacted JH client care services yesterday afternoon. They did an escalation process to see what could be done. Now it's the 18th at 3:24 pm. The only thing that was done from this "ESCALATION DEPT" was one upset me even more because they did not take the time to call me!! All they did was call the local store manager and had him call me to tell me he was sorry!!! SORRY isn't good enough!!!
Again emergency funds is because I needed the funds right away not 2 weeks after I filed!! $750 is what I was approved for and I only requested that because I need it for my 3 children and I!! So now what?? This has been the worst experience I have ever had with any company my whole life and I hope this helps others because if I would have known it would have saved a lot of time and stress and I would've looked for other resources. I feel as though they seen me and thought "Oh here's a young single mother of 3. If we apologize she'll leave it alone!!" No I know this is wrong and I will not stop until this is fixed because these so called tax advisers, preparers need to know how to do their jobs correctly and more deliquesce. Really hope this helps others.

As most tales like these tend to start, I was in desperate need of cash. I have yet to receive my W2s and found that only Jackson Hewitt accepted pay stubs and processed a request for a tax refund advance. The tax preparer's name is Mahmoud **. I have images and video taken of him texting throughout the entire appointment, which lasted almost two hours. Moreover, the preparer, if you can even call him that, used a 1040 form in lieu of the more appropriate - and cheaper - 1040A.
I was astounded to compare my tax refund fee amount ($671) to that of my friend, who filed the exact way I did (head of household, has one dependent, similar income, no itemized deductions, etc.) was only $360, but her refund was processed using a 1040A instead of 1040. So, why was I charged double the amount? I am unsure if it is due to the form used or some other variable, but I can assure you I will not stop until I get an answer and I will update here. Considering my refund amount wasn't huge by any means, that huge chunk of money was definitely not expected. However, at the time, I assumed it was due to the advance refund. Yet, that was only $49.95. It isn't until I researched a bit more and I found the only discrepancy between my return and my friend's return, which is the more complex 1040 form that was used.

I sat down and an open booth situated adjacent to a walking path and close proximity to a restroom and register. There were no privacy curtains, filters or any steps taken to secure my sensitive information. During the filing a grouping of people leaned over to ask for cards and ask about various shopping related things. I asked several times how this worked and each time was given more and more confusing answers. Towards the end the nice agent asked me "do you want check, direct deposit or preloaded Amex?" I inquired and informed her of the promotion I came in for and was informed it was for any residuals that they could not cover/ found later.
On none of the signs, promotions nor when talking to the agent was it made clear that the "Express refund" was optional and at there digression nor a loan. All of the signs state that you can "walk out with your refund/money". I called the office after completing my tax service to inquire about an email declining my "refund loan". And was connected with a very curt gentleman who sounded as if he had been fielding these type of calls all day. Only to discover that I basically had paid $200 to have someone incompletely do. I called the affiliated number and they told me that no one would be there until late this evening, but welcomed me to the other office 25-30 minutes away. They file my taxes and tell me that I'm approved and give me a card and told me that the funds should be available within that time frame. Well it's 4 hours later and I still don't have my money.
Hello Towalla, I'm so sorry that you had not received your funds at the time you posted this review! I went into Jackson Hewitt to get a loan on my taxes. I was approved and said I would get my money within 2 hrs. I did not thinking it would come the next day. I called the number on the back of the card and they said I was denied. How can one say I was approved and another say I was denied.

I have been doing my taxes with Jackson Hewitt for over 12 years and for the last 3 years it has been one horrific story after another. The locations in Staten Island are horrible. This year I received a pre-qualification for the holiday email stating I was qualified for a $400 advance on the 18th of December. I went into the location nearest me. Spent 3 hours with a tax prep that was very slow and did not know what she was doing. 3 other co-workers were asked to come and fix errors on the computer that she had made with my information. When she was done she told me that there was a problem with the system and couldn't process the advance for me to come back on Jan 2nd. They had no real answers as to why. They just guessed and gave me a guessed answer to get me out of the office. They issued an American Express prepaid card to me but they kept it and would not give it to me even after I demanded it several times.
They told me they were going to get in contact with their main office and call me back. I never received a callback. I then went back to the office two days later and asked for some answers. The tax prep acted as if she was calling her boss for a follow up and when he didn't pick up she started to tell me her assumptions of what had happened. I then called the headquarters only to find out that nothing was even submitted for me. Every year I pay this company almost 600 dollars to do my taxes and I believe I should receive better service than this. I still don't have the advance promised to me by Jackson Hewitt nor the card that was issued to me.

This woman has to consult on the phone for every single action she makes spending more than 2 hrs on a return! This is the worst place to conduct business and I will not be doing this Again! I went into Jackson Hewitt to get an advance due to my house fire. After it taking 3 hours instead of two and the lady asking her co worker a million things because she didn't know what she was doing, and a phone call because neither knew how to input my 1098T I was done. I went home and was told I would get a text if approved. No text so I reached out and found out I was approved yesterday. So the money should have been in my bank. I started looking at the paperwork and the lady didn't input the last number of my bank account. So, now my bank has to return it, then they will cut a check and mail it to me. Refuses to just stop payment and resend with the right number. They tell me hours after I brought their mistake to their attention that this is all that can be done.
They inform me it will take 3 days for my bank to send it back. Then 1 to 3 for theirs to reissue the check and 5 to 7 for me to get it in the mail. Meanwhile my kids Christmas burnt up and because I got hurt at work I cannot replace it. Comp wants to screw me around on giving me my pay. Thanks Jackson Hewitt for having people who do not know what they are doing and for not fixing your errors! I don't ever get these things but this year I didn't have a choice and it does no good now! Meanwhile, I have tried numerous times to access this account. I asked for a refund, but was told no. So, unless I hear from them, I will assume that I have lost my money. Today, I can't get my money back, I can't access the account, and nobody will return my call. I guess they are used to complaints. Oh well, lesson learned. Using Hewitt Financial Services (hewittfs.netxinvestor.com), I saw that one of my stocks jumped from 2.80 to 29.10. I got excited about a similar jump in the past (with a different stock), but found (called a reverse split) that the number of shares decreased, so the overall value remained the same. Naturally, I didn't want to get excited so I researched what happened. The only thing I could find were articles noting the increased stock value. Having done research (and feeling good) I created the sell order. The stock sold immediately. I even confirmed a few days later everything looked fine.
A good amount of time later, I checked my account and the money was gone. Combining the research I did with a conversation with a nice lady at Hewitt FS, this is what seems to have happened. The stock sold and the money went into my account. Days later, HFS corrected my account noting that I should have a reduced number of the shares (basically a 1-to-11 reverse split). Problem, the stocks no longer exist. Two weeks later, Hewitt Financial Services attempted to correct their problem by purchasing more of the stock (at a much higher value) and of course passed their mistake to me.
I will explain this with an example: (made up numbers) Let's say I had 100 shares valued at $5. If the value increases to $50 (based on a reverse split), I should only have 10 shares (keeping my value at $500). If I still had the 100 shares, I could sell them for $5000. In my case, I did. (back to the example), Hewitt Financial Services determined I should have 10 (already sold) shares instead of 100. They corrected this by buying 90 shares at a higher price (let's say $70) and removing the money from my account. So instead of having $5000 or even $500 (original value), I have 0 shares and $1300 removed from my account.
I did nothing wrong and lost a lot of money (much more than the $1300 in the example) for their mistake. While on the phone with Diane at their Customer Service/Trading Desk, I asked what I could do about this. She said that I could write a letter detailing my situation. I asked what writing a letter would do for me. She said, I would receive an explanation of what happened. I use multiple sites (Schwab, Etrade, etc) and Hewitt Financial Services is the only one with this type of issue. I will never use them again for any trade and I am going to start pulling my money out of my account as soon as I can. My only hope is that anyone reading this will think twice before making the same mistake I made.

I had an appointment to have my taxes filed on June 6, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. inside the Walmart store on Shopping Way Drive in West Memphis, AR 72301. When I went there, I explained to the preparer, **, that I had had my former preparer file for an extension in early April because I had to leave town suddenly due to a family emergency. When I returned to West Memphis in late May, I learned that the former preparer had failed to file for the extension. Upset and disgusted, I turned to Jackson-Hewitt because of its stellar reputation. ** said she'd verify my former preparer's failure with the IRS, but that she's have to call them. She added that trying to get a human at the IRS is often a long wait and that if I leave my tax info with her, she'd call me after she had talked to the IRS and then I could return and she'd file my return.
Since I hadn't heard any more from her since there as of this writing at 4:00 pm CDT two days later, I dropped by the office a few minutes ago and she told me she hadn't started my taxes, neither had she called the IRS. I'd think that since my appointment was two days ago, she would have given my taxes high priority... as a matter of fact started trying to contact the IRS immediately after I left there Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. (since that was the time of my appointment) and at least started entering my basic info into the Jackson-Hewitt's computer system. Furthermore, I myself called the IRS just a few minutes ago, was able to talk to someone within 5 minutes and learned the status of my request for an extension (which, unfortunately but as I suspected was NOT filed by my former preparer).
Furthermore, the IRS customer service rep told me that tax preparers have the capability to talk to an IRS customer service rep almost immediately since they have a special line for their calls, simply because they ARE qualified, registered preparers. ** didn't seem to know that...or chose not to disclose it for whatever reason. I don't know **'s last name since she was wearing no badge/tag, but I can tell you that she was working at the Jackson-Hewitt business inside Walmart on 798 W. Service Road in West Memphis, AR, the phone number being 870-735-4428. Since I had heard and read such outstanding reviews of Jackson-Hewitt, I was both surprised and dismayed that I received such bad (actually, no service at all) from **. I'm taking my business to H&R Block.

A great nephew of my wife was murdered 1 1/2 years ago. When we finally got the nephew's wallet after the trial, we found a Jackson Hewitt prepaid tax refund card and we were able to determine that there was a little over $1000 in this account. We have been trying to cash this card since 2-9-17. Note the nephew only has his mother and my wife as relatives. The mother is in a nursing home and my wife has the power of attorney.
Since 2-9-17, we have contacted Jackson Hewitt/American Express ten times and have faxed them different information that they requested five times. Each time we respond, they would come back with more information that they needed and we complied. Finally, we received a letter from the American Express Resolution Team requesting forms filed thru the court system. In checking with an attorney, we found it would cost us way more than $1000 to do this. American Express has led us on for 4 months and hindered us at every turn. I guess American Express will get to keep the money rather than the nephew's mother who is in a nursing home and need this money to fix her teeth.

After numerous phone calls to JH and the IRS and spending hours on hold waiting... We finally get the IRS to tell us they got mom's tax preparation from JH on MAY 3RD (21 DAYS AFTER SHE E-FILED WITH JACKSON HEWITT) they said her refund was sent to JH on May 9th... But Jackson Hewitt's bank sent it back as "Questionable"... We asked the lady from the IRS what that meant and was told "Exactly what I said".
Furthermore we were told it would be another 6 to 8 weeks before mom's refund would be sent back. Why did Jackson Hewitt wait 21 days to send mom's tax e-file out. Why would their own bank not accept the refund once it was sent. Why does it take 6 to 8 more weeks for the IRS to resend a refund it's already approved and sent already. Mom filed for direct deposit so it shouldn't take this long. She's 80 yrs old and retired. She was depending on her refund to pay bills. Her cable has been cut off, electric and gas was turned off. Reading other reviews there is always an excuse and pretty much same pay owed no matter if easy or complex. He said the return would post onto this credit card he handed me in six to ten weeks.
Well on May 2 I got a phone call that my check was in. I then was told that tax season is over and I will have to drive to Cleveland, Ohio (55 miles away) to pick up. Then when I went to Wal-Mart to cash my check I was informed that cash checking season is over and they can not help me. I explained to the manager that I have no checking or savings account. SHE TOLD ME to go to a check cashing store and they should be able to help me. I informed her that I did not want to pay $300 more to cash this when Wal-Mart charges $6.00. Used Turbo Tax to do my original taxes. I was told I needed to send in a 1095A. Thought it would be easier to have Jackson Hewitt prepare this form for me since they were set up in my local Walmart. I couldn't be more wrong. On my visit there, I was told it would be $72 to do the amendment. I thought it was a little steep since my taxes were done already. I decided to let them do it since I was there. I was told they couldn't actually do it there because they lacked the computer ability. I was told it would be sent to Pittsburgh to be finished. I then promptly get a call stating I owed another $138. The $72 was just a down payment. I argued the point, stating that this was not what I was told. She then stated that I must have misunderstood. I know what I was told. I then gave them the number on my credit card to have the remainder charged.
I call back to make sure that my taxes were indeed completed and sent out. I was assured they were sent on March 21. After waiting for six weeks and no refund, I called again. I talked to a young man who was rude and only wanted to get me off the phone. I asked when my refund was sent out and he said he would have no way of knowing. After I stated that they did the refund, how could he not know, he checked and gave me the date March 24th. An entirely different date than I was given on my first inquiry. He then proceeded to tell me I wouldn't be getting a refund because of the amendment. The last inquiry gave me a total of my refund. I was then given the name of the man who actually did my amendment, I was told he was busy with a customer. I will be calling back and someone better have some answers, I can't wait to hear his response. :( I will NEVER use Jackson Hewitt again, I wish I had read the reviews first.

I should have only paid the $50 this year. I was charged more this year because she did the gold guarantee and I did not want that. I only wanted to pay $50 this year. My husband and I had our taxes prepared for years with another reputable company but their fees became more than we could handle being retired, when my husband was working and we got a sizable return, it was fine and we felt very protected, being retired is almost living on a third of your income, along with owing monies, we find it difficult to do, therefore, we stumbled on Jackson Hewitt in Penn Hills shopping Center, they offered tax prep for $48 because I am still working as an independent contractor, I do have deductions to claim, but trust me, not many. We were finished with our file and were told that would be $430, I was floored, we not only owed the IRS but we now owe this exorbitant amount to JH, I hate even saying their name... so we are now going the route of doing our own on the Free sites because we qualify to do so.
We started our journey only to find that we were required to have a PDF file of our last years return, JH has that, I called and was told that they could not do it today (takes a minute to pull that up) but yet... they said if we came in, they could prepare our taxes lol, but she couldn't pull our PDF until tomorrow. I was furious to say the least, I know, I am a procrastinator and would have had this all done prior to the deadline day, but there is something about owing the IRS instead of receiving that makes one wait till the last minute, I can remember being so excited when we got a sizable amount back when kids were home and we were working, gosh we ran as soon as the W-2's were in the mailbox, now I actually forget about it till the last moment. Really hurts the wallet when you are retired, then to trust someone like JH and be hung up on... is so very frustrating.
I asked her why they had time to prepare my taxes but could not take a few minutes to pull up my PDF, she literally hung up the phone on me, that is when I decided to get online and file a complaint with the BBB and ConsumerAffairs, this company should be shut down or at the very least fined in some way, they also promised us a Walmart card which we never saw, my husband went back to claim it and they were out of them and that promotion was over. I just cannot stand people who take advantage of poor souls and this is one of those greedy companies.
They in my estimation promote false advertising, that is why we walked in the door, I asked if that was the going rate and was told, "Lets run your return through and we shall see." I thought, "Ok, so it can't be that much more." I told her that I was an independent contractor, I was not informed it would be so much more, I don't think anyone gets out the door with the $48.00 and a gift card. BEWARE.

Now JH and AMERICAN EXPRESS are each indicating that they will place the refund on the original card, that was given when my daughter started her taxes. Well that card no longer exists. It was lost, stolen? I really don't know where it is. I do KNOW I DON'T have it. American Express is sending me to JH who in turn is sending me to American Express. No one wants to help, so that 100% guarantee doesn't apply when it comes to "assistance". They rip you off by charging you 638.00 plus change to do your taxes. They get their money and keep giving you the run around.
No one knows where the DM disappeared to. SHE is MIA to use their words! Seriously? No one knows where the DM is? What kind of company doesn't know where the district manager has skulked off to? No one wants to just write a new check. No one wants to answer for the questions about the refund nor do they care. All they want is their money for preparing the return. I'm sending this to the IRS, THE State Attorney General and to my congressman.
Now JH is going to put money on a card that doesn't exist. Seriously? What is wrong with these people? This is the Court Street location in Burton MI. JH & AE indicate that a personalized card will be sent once the original card is activated. But if you don't have the card how can they send you a personalized card? Neither company is indicating that either one can help me in getting this resolved. AE wants me to go to JH, JH sends me back to AE. IT'S A NIGHTMARE. DON'T USE THESE PEOPLE.

The rep called my husband and said to come back at 7 pm and I should have known the service would suck and it did. She was the only one in the office. The phone was ringing every other minute. Customers coming in constantly. We knew the focus was not completely on us. We had numerous questions and we were treated with "You should know that or what a stupid question" attitude.
We were charged close to $500 which was outrageous for the service and information we received. I printed out the $50 coupon a week or so after having our taxes done, but when I tried to use it at a Walmart in Batavia, Illinois, I was told there was no money on it. After calling customer service and a manager several times over a two week period with no assistance, I was finally told the card had been used in Crystal Lake, Illinois two days after we had our taxes done. I haven't been to Crystal lake in almost 10 years, and I know that after I printed out the coupon on-line, that I had placed the coupon in my wallet, and did not remove it until the day I tried to use it in Batavia.
I still have the copy of the coupon in my possession, which means someone has hacked into the Jackson-Hewitt system, and took the information, and used it to make a purchase at a Sam's Club store in Crystal Lake, Illinois. The Jackson-Hewitt company is extremely disorganized, and I was told they would get back to me on several occasions, but I had to visit the store at least four times before I finally got some answers. It is very likely that a Jackson-Hewitt employee got my information for the $50 rebate coupon, and spent it, leaving me with nothing. For anyone reading this, Please do not ever have your takes done by Jackson-Hewitt, and don't fall for their fake offer of any kind of a $50 or $100 coupon rebate, as their system is not secure from hackers.

I prepare taxes. A client filed with these folks last year. She wasn't given copies of anything just a refund check with receipt of service paid. So I have her call for info... local office refers her to corporate. Corporate refers her to IRS. So I call corporate. They curse at me and hang up on me. Client was with me when I made call. She witnessed their inappropriate behavior. This company is a joke. Needless to say I would not recommend this company to anyone.

I wouldn't even give this company 1 star if it were my choice! This is the most horrible, unprofessional, inaccurate, and rude bunch of people ever! I'm lost for words with the service they provided to me and as I'm seeing these reviews, MANY, MANY others had the same experience! I went to file my taxes (which I'm a certified tax preparer) and always prepare my own but due to certain circumstances I was in need of the advance. So I decided to bite the bullet and have them done and pay the fees... Biggest mistake ever to choose Jackson Hewitt!!!
I am head of household with 2 dependents and my preparer was Grace in the Weatherford, TX location on Palo Pinto St. When she originally filed my return it got kicked back from the IRS and she told me the code was stating, "One of my dependents had been already claimed on another person's taxes." I was very shocked!! I have been a single mother of two since day one, always cared for them 100%, claimed them on my taxes, and never had one slight issue before this. I freak out, take off work, miss a whole 8 hrs of pay to be able to call and wait on hold with the IRS to get to the bottom of this.
In the meantime, Grace goes ahead and files just me and one of my dependents, and advises me that I will have to file an amended return for other dependent after the first was received. Come to find out after I was going to file the amendment myself, I get that return and get the paperwork out to find that my one dependent had not been claimed on someone else's return, Grace had simply entered his SS# number incorrectly causing the IRS to kick it back. So, not only did Grace not catch her careless mistake by entering the SS# wrong, she incorrectly interpreted the IRS code on top of that!
I called to Jackson Hewitt and speak to Grace and bring it to her attention. She said, "Let me look this over and I'll get back with you." She then calls me back and begins to make all kinds of excuses to as why it wasn't her fault, and there was nothing she could do. I told her I was very unhappy that I not only paid $600 to have my taxes messed up, now she is refusing to do the amended return without me paying an additional $100! I told her I needed to speak to her boss. She rudely said I was being ridiculous and hung up on me! As I was googling the number to the area manager Grace called me back and offered to do the amendment for $50 instead of $100, I disagreed and told her that made absolutely no sense to pay someone anymore than the $600 I already paid, because of her mistake. She then finally said, "Ok we will do the amendment for free."
This was a Friday evening I spoke to her, I asked her if she was going to be there Saturday, she said yes. So I go in Saturday morning and she wasn't even working, she was off and purposely avoided me. I was beyond furious at this point!!! Well, there was a very nice preparer that Saturday and she did get the amendment done for me but I just still couldn't swallow paying the $600. I spoke to the area manager and she was very, very rude and not understanding whatsoever and pretty much told me I was lucky they were even doing the amendment at no cost, refused to refund any of the $600 fee for them to prepare (MESS UP) my taxes, and I would never recommend Jackson Hewitt! Bad business for sure!

Jackson Hewitt in the Joliet Walmart off of Jefferson St are completely ridiculous. I called them a few minutes before close because all I needed was a member of management’s phone number or the owner’s phone number from a previous incident. I was ignored twice. I proceeded to call again because they were not closed yet and I needed that phone number. A lady answered the phone, refused to give me her name, set the phone down for 4 minutes and hung up on me. I called again and was ignored once more. I called again because at this point I am livid, why was I hung up on when all I asked for was a supervisor’s phone number? She then answered the phone and proceeded to yell at me and tell me I was harassing her and that she had reported my phone number to the police and continued to call me a different name. I told her multiple times my name and asked for management phone number or extensions and was hung up on.
The branch manager called me from a different phone number and proceeded to scream at me once again, calling me another name, saying she had caller id and that I was lying about my name and phone number. When I asked for the owner’s phone number or extension ONCE AGAIN she replied with "Well that ain't going to happen" and hung up. This is completely ridiculous. This franchise needs to work on customer service. I also work in the retail industry and if a member of my staff were to speak to someone with such a tone or even say the things that they did, they would be fired immediately.

I filed my tax return with a IPIN number and the first tax performance didn't enter the number correctly. So I was notified that I would need to complete a mailed in returned. So it to took them 2 weeks to turn the electric rerun into a mail in return. So the IRS informed me it would need to be signed by the tax performance and myself. They told me that an electric signature was ok. So now 6 weeks later I received a letter stating they could not process my return because there is no signature on the document received. So they still want to pay full price for them completing my return wrong.
UPDATED ON 03/28/2017: So I complained that my 2016 tax return was filed incorrectly. So I received an email asking for my personal info so they could resolve my issue. All I can say is bad customer service. They are just as bad as the person who completed my return incorrectly. Why would you ask for my personal Info and do nothing and never responded in over a week. I hope any that read this please save your money and your time filing with this company. The truth is not within this company and to save yourself a really big problem. They state they will completed your return right the first time and it sad to say that this is not true.

I would give this company zero stars but that is not an option. I went here for my yearly taxes and the woman doing them had no idea what she was doing. I asked her for clarification on a simple question that I later looked up on TurboTax and she looked at me bewildered expecting me to tell her the answer. She was not friendly or educated on taxes and I did a better and more accurate job when I went home and re-did them in order to fill out my state taxes. I had to do state separately because it took her a whopping two hours for a federal return because she didn't know how to even type properly and I had plans after. I guess the one class they allow anyone to take and pass could account for the service. Seriously felt like a random person just walked into the office and sat down behind the counter to do my taxes like is this serious?!! Complete waste of money.

So it's 2012 tax time and my father just passed away leaving me with a decent inheritance. My husband and I decide to go to Jackson Hewitt to get our taxes done as that was really the only tax place in our small town. Everything goes smoothly until 2013 when we get a letter from the IRS saying we owe them $16,500 because of missing tax information from 2012.
Well I immediately call Jackson Hewitt and the office boss at the time and I meet, turns out the kid that did our taxes did not even file 3/4 of the paperwork we brought in including my inheritance information and my husband's job w-2's. So we try to have them submit the information and the IRS declines it saying they want the money and not the paperwork so we sell our house and pay the IRS off. As we were in the middle of moving anyway. Then to find out because we had the Gold member Jackson Hewitt paid us only $5,000. So for their screw up we only got them to stand behind their company and people for $5,000 worth of damage.
After that we think it is over but cut to February 2017 and a very surprising unpleasant bill from the State of Colorado saying we never even submitted 2012 taxes to them. Apparently the kid never submitted anything and we owed them $4,000 and they had been trying to get a hold of us for 4 years to correct the mistake so what started out as $2,000 has now become $4,000 in penalties and fees.
I once again dialed Jackson Hewitt to have them correct the mistake and they didn't answer the phone the first 10 times I called. I finally was able to get a hold of someone and she said she would leave a message for her boss, since she couldn't look that far back in the system. So I wait 2 days and still no call back. I finally got mad enough to call back another 10 calls. Later the "boss" stated that since the gold membership paid us for the IRS screw up in 2013 there is nothing that they can do at all. I will never use this company again. They have screwed us over to the tune of $20,000 and counting. I recommend to all my friends and family and anyone I meet to NEVER EVER USE JACKSON HEWITT. If they have more bad comments than good HOW ARE THESE JERKS STILL IN BUSINESS???

Recently I started checking the Ms state Tax website because I didn't understand how a month has gone by and I hadn't received my state tax. The website didn't recognize any of my info so I called the office to find out they haven't finished or filed my state tax paperwork. The icing on the cake is the tax preparer acted like I had no right to be upset and that it wasn't a big deal and no remorse for the inconvenience they caused me and took no responsibility saying eventually they would have caught it. She also implied that I shouldn't be mad because they file the state tax for free so I should get over it. I then replied I paid 500 to get my federal file so it damn well should have been free. We have called 5 times to check the card! We also saw the advertisement that they'd give us $100 for switching. Nope. Didn't happen. I thought that is a nice bonus. I had a appointment picked out for 5 pm. I got there 10 minutes before my appointment but the lady let another guy walk without a appointment and started helping him. That really frustrated me but I wanted to get this done so I waited.
Over a hour later she finally got done with him. That should have been the sign for me but I continued. Well she did my taxes without asking a lot of questions. When she got to the end she told me her computer would not let her select the gift card. At this point I had a sick fiancee at home with a 7 month old ill too and was well over a hour and half behind. I told her I have to head out for now due to this.
I have been trying for well over a week to get this straighten out. I have emailed, chatted and even made a twitter account to contact Jackson Hewitt on this. I get the same answer every single time. "Call your local office at 651-829-3531 and ask for Benjamin." Best part of the office is every single time it says the office is unavailable please call back at another time. EVERY SINGLE TIME!!! I tell the national office this and they don't give a damn. They just vomit out the same reply. At this point it's not even about the money it's about getting what I was promised by them.
My soon to be Sister in law owns her own law firm and is a consumer rights lawyer. I twitter them that if this isn't resolved today that they will be getting a call from her. Both of my experiences with Jackson Hewitt were very unpleasant and very unprofessional. The only reason I returned the second time (at a different location) was because I was obligated to file my taxes with them from applying/accepting the refund advance offer. When I visited the first location I had dropped off my information due to the line being so long; I was told I would be contacted the next day to sign and finalize my advance, I was never called and every time I tried to call there was no answer.
I returned to the same store the next week when they had lost ALL appointment schedules and apparently had no way of accessing them or anyone who could. They continued to accept walk-ins before the clients with appointments and those that were only there for "pickups". 75% of the staff didn't show up to work without calling and it wasn't the first time they'd done so is what I was informed. I waited 2.5 hours!!! I took my W2's to another location hoping for a better outcome but was unfortunately even more upset.
After filing my taxes and not once explaining anything to me she sent me on my way only to find out a few weeks later she had NEVER sent my State taxes and the only way she found out is when I had to call her and ask why the website was reporting it not found. Over the next 2 weeks I had trouble with them having incorrect ss#, not returning my calls, informing me that my state refund had been received and used in full to cover the advance and fees that I "owed" them when actually my State refund check was received in my mail the next day. I'm furious and disgusted with how rude the tax "professionals" were. I will never again use Jackson Hewitt and I will definitely not be referring anyone to them.

I filed my taxes with Jackson Hewitt because I needed the advancement for an emergency. When I went to file my taxes, I felt like they were asking me a lot of personal business that had nothing to do with taxes. I only had 1 w2 and it took him 3 hours to submit my information. I even left and came back an hour later and it still was not complete. I was suppose to get the 50.00 gift card but because the preparer and his supervisor didn't know how to load the advancement on the card, I didn't get the 50.00. When the preparer finished my fees were almost 500.00 for 1 w2.
When I finally received my paperwork from my job, I had to go back because that was where I received my loan. Even though it took less than 30 mins, the last preparer did not enter my information incorrectly because I was about to be penalized for 2500 for no insurance. They also didn't ask me for any deductions for gas, uniforms, and educational supplies that I wanted to file as well. That was another 5 to 6 hundred dollars I could have claimed on my taxes.
I will never go back to them again and I advise everyone else to do the same. I told them that it was false advertising that they were doing with the loan and the card and the preparer told me that's how they get customers. I was so disappointed. Next time I will do my own on TaxHawk where I only paid 16.00. Please people don't go here to do your taxes. It's a total rip off. Where to start! I went to JH on Friday Feb 2nd. I gave the JH tax preparer all of my documents including my PIN that was needed to complete my paperwork. The preparer was also new to filing taxes and did not mention any of the products or services that JH offered. I received a receipt with coupons to refer a friend. I was at a Wal-Mart location and so I was to receive a 50$ coupon and a 25$ discount on my taxes as a sale. The tax preparer told me that I should receive a confirmation within a few hours. I did not receive anything. Out of curiosity, I called another JH location the next day and was informed that there was filing error and it was missing my PIN. I attempted to contact the office, but the rep I worked with was not there until the next day.
Instead of waiting, I went to the location at 4pm in the afternoon and the location was closed. The hours of operation stated they would be open until 7pm. I called the supervisor John from the listed numbers and he informed me that I would have to wait until tomorrow. The next day, I go to the location and wait 20 minutes for the preparer to say "It only took me 5 minutes to enter this. I don't know what happened." I said as an inconvenience I would like to discount my fees. The supervisor offered me $20 off. I was expected to pay almost $300 worth of fees. Not satisfactory. I then received an offer of 75$ off. I accepted because the total discount should have been a total of $100 off including their $25 discount they offered.
The 75$ off was listed, but remember when they offered a 25$ discount just for doing the taxes, well that was included in the 75$. How can you offer an additional 75$ off and not follow your promise? I did not ask to take off 25$ off initially that was your promotion. After 3 weeks (not 21 days yet) my taxes have been approved and have been approved for over 3 days and I was told that I still have to wait for it to hit my account. I will never go this incompetent place again.
