I used Jackson Hewitt Tax Debt Resolution Services to handle an issue that I was having with the IRS. I could never get a straight answer on the best situation to remedy my outstanding tax issue, nor could I ever get a straight answer related to cost involved. The several employees I spoke to within the organization were all rude and condescending and very unprofessional in questions asked. I did not speak to 1 employee within the group that seemed to have any tax background or tax audit experience. I would stay far way from this provider, and save yourself the headache and hassle.

The Jackson Hewitt office in Katy, Texas on Franz road where I have been filing taxes for the past few years was unable to help me when I went in with questions this past week and could care less. I was told to wait in my car. This was the worst treatment And I had on a mask. I have paid over 500 dollars to file my taxes with your company since 2014 and had a few questions and this was the second office I had visited and no help was given. I will not be filing my taxes here next year and both ladies need customer service training.

After paying Jackson Hewitt over 500.00 dollars to complete my taxes 2019 I find out that you cannot call to get clarity about your taxes even after PAYING 500.00 for 15 of their time. When calling I was told "We can't help you" and was hung up. Thanks for being such an unethical company. I truly pray that others do not fall victim to this scam as they do not actually provide a service. Worst tax Company and they employ others with unprofessional customer services still who lack the ability to provide the service that you pay hundreds of dollars for. I would not recommend using Jackson Hewitt for any reason.

I usually use H and R Block but decided to switch. Since the Covid-19 crisis I found how greedy all tax preparation companies and the banks the associate with are. When looking for my stimulus checks I kept getting either no information or conflicting lies. The truth is the answers were in the contracts we all signed and they simply did not want the truth to get out till it had to because it would have stopped many people from continuing to use their products. Not to mention anyone they roped into using them after all this had started coming to light had got stuck in worse positions the me and others like me, which were millions.

The truth is these people are not needed. Do yourself a favor stay away from these over priced companies and their quick money schemes that lure individuals in. Most the time you can get your moneyless just as fast filing yourself or with a CPA which is HUNDREDS cheaper. Don’t be fooled these are mills and they only want to charge you outrageous fees for performing a service anyone can do. If you don’t believe that anyone can do it look around the office and take notice of the people about to do your taxes. Trust me not the brightest, most cannot type nor string a correct sentence together if their life depended on it. Just please don’t go through what I and millions have gone through.

Currently millions of people can’t even get access to their stimulus checks because of the countless errors on these tax refunds. ERRORS, on a process these people just paid possibly 500 dollars for. Please please please just don’t go to any of them not JH my HnR or whatever others are out there. Hire someone who knows what they are doing someone who went to school to handle numbers and money. They need your business and they will correctly do what you need to do and charge you a fair price.

Me and my girlfriend decided to use JH to do our taxes this year, regrettably. The woman who prepared out taxes was nice enough. However, a few days later when we went over them, we noticed that we were charged about $800 to do them. Outrageous! When we called to find out why we had been charged so much, the lady said "she would look into it and get back to us" and never did. Once we found out we would be getting stimulus payments, JH customer service told us they were "99%" positive it would go on our ridiculous AMEX serve card we regrettably elected to receive our tax refund on. They lured us in with the line that we could get an advance (that we were declined for) and our taxes would get to us faster (which it didn't). Now here we are, STILL WAITING for our stimulus check and neither JH or AMEX answers the phone with any answers as to why we haven't received our stimulus.

I also may add that when I went on IRS site to enter tax info and banking info, I was hit with an error message that my AGI was incorrect, even though I was using my W2 info. Turns out JH changed my AGI by ONE NUMBER and that is why IRS was rejecting!!! Needless to say, I will not be using JH ever again. I would also STRONGLY CAUTION anyone who does use them STAY AWAY from their ridiculous AMEX serve card option. They probably get a kickback from AMEX. Thanks for the run around JH!!!

Went to Jackson Hewitt to ask about it and lo and behold they had my address wrong so now what I can't get it through the card because they advance me money. I have used Jackson Hewitt for several years. They have been awesome until now, Every year they have charged me around $250 dollars to do my taxes. This year, $540. Evidently some of the offices are independently owned and have their own price structure. This office and several other offices in Arkansas and Oklahoma are owned by the same individual. They do not warn you of the high rate they charge. You don't see it until it's too late, after they have finished your taxes. Good bye JH, Never again.

First of all the pricing on here is wrong for a family package, it is almost $800 to have your taxes done, for a standard deduction with itemization it's about 500, a minimal with no as we can any schedules is $400. If you are a 1099 employee it's $1,000 to do your return with them. They hide these fees by assisting your refund, they also charge an extra fifty bucks just to have the money sent to their account and then sent to your account because you're not paying for your return upfront. There is so much fraud going on there it's ridiculous.

I have a friend who work there and half the preparers couldn't even pass the test. They had people come in and take the test for him so they could prepare returns. Please stay as far away from them as you can. I know a lot of people are willing to pay that kind of money to get the advance loan but they deny you anyway and all honesty most people only get a $200 advance on your taxes and spend almost $1,000 to do it. Now this is the Philadelphia area, not sure about other regions but I know these numbers to be factual.

My husband made an appointment to meet with a representative and turned in detailed documentation to prepare our return. We were told it could be done in a couple of days. He made an appointment to return 4 Days later to review and sign the paperwork. During this time with concerns with the virus and the fact that they are located in WalMart we wanted to minimize our time in the store. When we arrived a different representative greeted us rudely and told us she had only just received our paperwork and the preparation had not even been started. I asked if we could return later after it was prepared and she said we should wait while she worked on it. When I voiced my concerns about waiting she said it was OK because they were an essential service. I am in the high risk category to get the virus, we had done all the necessary steps to minimize our time out. I was very distraught at her complete disregard for our wellbeing.

When I got home and read all of the paperwork, I tried to get in touch with the guy that did my taxes to reverse the issue, could not get a phone number that had a person to talk to anywhere, all recordings no real people, went back down next day to Walmart, different guy said he couldn't do anything about it and that maybe my tax prep could be denied and I could start over! So I decided to go to Jackson Hewitt this year for my taxes because we weren't in a great place financially and Jackson Hewitt offered a 0% Apr No Fee refund advance. I went into the location in a Walmart in Napanoch NY. Mind you I have been doing my taxes online myself for the past decade at least. The whole ordeal lasted no more than 15 minutes! The woman asked me like 5 questions and it was done. She never told me how much I was being charged, never really verified much at all. Finding I was approved for the advance I thought all is well. That is not true at all. When I got home I looked over papers and found I was charged $600 in total fees! I was charged $600 in fees for a simple return that a woman spent less than 15 minutes with me!

I raise a child on a low income and we do the best we can but I'm so upset with jackson hewitt because they stole from us big time! I have not been able to get through to an actual person, and I would like my money back. I work hard for what I have and being charge $600 for a simple return is not right. Turbo Tax never charged me more than $70 bucks for both federal and state. Then they sent my prepaid card to my physical address when I told the woman multiple times that my mailing address is different than my mailing so it took weeks to get the actual card.

Now I'm still missing $300 of my state return. How much else can these people do? I was approved for no fee advance of $1250. My state refund was $1600 so they still owed me 350. Well the NY state said the refund was sent but why haven't I gotten the $350 that I am owed after being charged almost $600 already. We're talking almost $1000 this company has taken from my family and I have yet to talk to a real person. I would appreciate it to hear from an actual person.

Tax prep person was so distracted, by his little girl in the office running around to additional either babysitter or family hanging out to answering his cell to buy a car, only to have my taxes not completed correctly, notified by the IRS that my State went from me receiving a large amount to me suddenly owing. How??? because said distracted tax prep person, didn't complete taxes correctly. Resulting in (get this) being sent to another JH location in New Albany Indiana (I live in Louisville) for someone to do an amendment? Really... Only to find out amendments aren't even looked at until July or August? I paid way too much to have my taxes completed wrong by a distracted worker, and rely on this service to be correct. This year, due to moving, I needed the "NO FEE ADVANCE", to help cover expenses. I researched several Tax Preparers, visiting offices/calling offices, etc, before deciding on Jackson Hewitt (I've done my own taxes for over 10 years via "Turbo Tax" (Free)! Prior to my app't, I called, one last time, to verify charge. (I had a simple Federal Return, with "head of household", "1 child credit" & "unearned income credit". When I called, & explained EXACTLY what my return entailed, I was told (a 3rd time), my fee would be $48.00 TOTAL (which included NO FEE ADVANCE)!

I had my taxes prepared by ** at the Bradenton branch, located at 5229 14th St W, Bradenton, Fl 34207. Now, I have a "very mild" learning disability, trouble retaining what I read. I had a friend help me when researching Tax Preparers, & had her call this office as well, prior to my appt. (I like to dot my I's & cross my T's ), in EVERYTHING I do! Although I have this mild disability, I attended college & have a great job & I'm very successful in what I do.

Fast forward to my appt. Due to all my prior research & phone calls to CONFIRM price of $48.00, I felt confident & TRUSTED **, my tax preparer. My taxes took all of 20 minutes to complete. ONE W2, (no State filing in Fla), VERY SIMPLE! When I was done, I stopped at my Mother's, & asked her to review my forms. We were both APPALLED!!! I was charged $605.00 for tax return!! The "NO FEE EARLY REFUND ADVANCE" (FREE SERVICE), cost me $49.95. On my list of charges, it has two "lists", left side it states "Your Products & Services" (with all the fees I was charged), next to that line of charges is another line, stating "FREE TO YOU FOR FILING WITH JACKSON HEWITT)!!" However, NOTHING WAS FREE!

My Mother was IRATE, & went back to office same night, spoke with ** & DEMANDED an explanation. ** just "stood there", then stated, "Come back AFTER she receives her tax return & I'll address the issue. We already sent her return to IRS, & don't want to delay her return". My Mother, being non-confrontational, & level headed, agreed.

Only AFTER I received my tax return, MINUS $605.00 did we realize WHY ** said to wait, so Jackson Hewitt could TAKE THEIR PORTION of return! Again, I have a VERY BASIC, SIMPLE tax return, (a 14 yr old could prepare it on Turbo Tax, I unfortunately, needed to catch up on moving expenses this year, so opted for "NO FEE ADVANCE", thus, requiring Jackson Hewitt to prepare taxes). This is FALSE ADVERTISING, TO THE MAX!!! Jackson Hewitt advertises everywhere, "no fee advance", preparation fees between $39 & $69.

*My other, REAL CONCERN, is that ** realized my "mild disability", because I never asked any questions, TRUSTED HIM, & just nodded my head. I FIRMLY BELIEVE, He took TOTAL ADVANTAGE of me, & KNEW I had a disability!* "That's against the law!! He also, NEVER ONCE discussed his fees! I was told $48.00 & honestly EXPECTED my paperwork to reflect that fee, of $48.00, NOT $605.00!!! Something needs to be done, to stop these lies, this false advertising & discrimination against disabled customers! Do not trust Jackson Hewitt!

Chelsea, a recent representative from Jackson Hewitt in their North Logan Branch in WalMart conned me into filing my taxes by promising me the price would only be 200 dollars. I checked with her various times throughout our session, and was assured that 200 was the price. She even went as far as to telling me that I could not have my check mailed to me by the IRS because "they didn't do that anymore", and that I had to either have my check direct deposited or picked up at their branch. Having the check direct deposited or picked up makes it so they take the money directly out of my check.

If I would of had my check mailed to me by the IRS, I would of had to of paid for everything up front and would have seen that I was actually being charged an absurd amount of close to 500 dollars for options I would of never agreed to due to them being a complete waste of money. She even conned me into thinking that doing my state return was not included, and that she was literally doing me a favor for filing it. When she did this, I made sure to ask her if I was going to be charged 200 dollars twice for both the State and Federal return. She assured me that everything was going to cost 200.

Since I was not being allowed the option to have my check mailed to me be the IRS, she lied to me about the fact of whether or not there was an extra fee for picking up the check. I didn't have my bank account routing number on me, so I decided to just pick it up. Had I known that was an additional 30 dollars off my check I would have said no and would of come back later. On my way home, I had a feeling that something wasn't right. Sure enough, when I got home I checked my receipt and realized I had been conned and proceeded to contact her via the numbers she provided me on my folder. She ignored me, and did not return my calls. I left voicemails, sent text messages, and even got ahold of her and she promised to return my calls but never did.

I just recently found out a few days ago that she has been fired due to multiple complaints. However, the managers are refusing to speak to me, or even acknowledge the fact that I was lied to and cheated out of almost 300 dollars. They are even going as far as to placing the blame on me. I immediately filed a formal complaint with Wal Mart, and since then had been thinking I should take them to small claims court. When I called the courts they said it sounded like fraud and that I should call the police. I filed a police report today and they will be investigating the matter and calling their managers. I also plan to leave a review with the BBB, and am planning to take this as far as I have to to get justice.

I trusted Frank at the Garland, TX office to prep taxes at the discounted rate we agreed to and get a refund advance. I had already prepared my taxes using Free Tax USA, but needed funds right away after an accident prevented me from working or driving. He used the Free Tax information I did myself, to complete his firm's paperwork. Then her informed me that I would be paying $452, instead of the $149 her word me. And I would not be getting an advance, because both of those promotions ended. I asked him why her didn't inform me of that before, because he know ahead of time that I had already prepared them for free. He said he was sorry, but there was nothing to be done. I feel sick that I have to pay them that exorbitant amount for something I had already done myself.

I had my taxes prepared last year with this company in the Walmart on Ave B in Yuma, AZ. They did a decent job and tax preparer seemed knowledgeable. I was charged $270.00 and given a $100 Walmart gift card because I was a new customer. I was also promised another $100.00 gift card if we returned this year. Our taxes are simple, we are both retired with social security and pensions.

When we arrived for our 1 pm appointment on February 20, 2020 I had all my paperwork organized and totaled except for our vehicle registrations because I wasn’t sure if the new amount for public safety was to be included. Well, she didn’t have a calculator so I offered to put totals that she called on on my phone calculator. She called out the full amount paid for each registration. I told that was not correct. She argued that it was and I told her no it was not. She called her boss and I was correct, total tax paid is the only amount that should be used. Then she had to call her boss again because she couldn’t find where another deduction was located on the computer form...

Finally we get everything computed and she shows us that we earned about $40,000.00 more than last year! We told her that wasn’t possible, nothing changed and I had retired so there were no W2’s this year. We told her that my husband received a disability check and that total was not taxed, that she must have put the wrong code in. She insisted that if it was income, it was taxable. We told her she was wrong. She then tells us to leave all our documents with her and she would have her boss review it. I took all our paperwork and told her, "No thank you, you don’t know what you’re doing" and we left. When I got home I called the main office in Yuma and reported her. Her name is Marie **. We were very upset and disappointed that they would have such a untrained person doing such an important job. We will never use them again.

When I called to talk to somebody afterward, she told me "you had too many papers and that's why the price was so high." When I asked what they charge for each piece of paper she said she didn't have that information. I tried calling their main number from their website and of course its an automated message. They don't have a specific "number" to push for questions or complaints but it said for all other inquiries press "4". I pressed "4" and it said it was an invalid response. The person I used seemed very unsure about what she was doing with a particular portion of my tax return. I just didn’t feel comfortable when I left. My brother prompted me to have it looked at elsewhere and lo and behold I didn’t owe as I was told I would. I actually should have gotten over 3000 back. The preparer also was astounded that I was charged nearly $500 for my return. Now I have to pay another $400 to have their return fixed! So I will end up paying 900 for my simple tax return that could’ve been done right the first time and run the risk of being red flagged by the IRS! I am livid and they’ve lost a long time customer!!!

I was advised to call customer service which I did. A gentleman called me back and informed me my return was done wrong and that he could not refund me all of my money but he will give me $200 and they’ll do my taxes for free next year. Are you kidding me?!?! When I told him that was unacceptable and wanted to know what fees he was keeping he said “I don’t know how to answer that” and when I told him I wanted all of my fees returned or I would be in contact with the local news and IRS he said “well that’s your prerogative. I call and make an appointment at the nearest office which is just a tiny both in front of check stands at Walmart. I make an appointment and take half a day off, it's a 45min drive for me. I get there and there is nobody there. I wait thinking maybe they went to grab lunch or perhaps using the restroom. No one shows, I leave a note on the desk with my phone number and head out to my car to call them and see what is going on. After about 25 min finally get someone on phone and I explain what going on. The lady on phone offered me to go to another office after she called the one I had appointment at and could not reach anyone as well.

I agreed to go to another one which was another 30min away. Well she couldn't get ahold of ** my one at that office either, so she called a third office and sent me there so now I'm about an hour and forty five minutes away from home. The lady at the office was nice enough, I get my card for my advance and give her my pay stub. I leave and was told when I bring my w2 in I would get $1200.and I would get up to 400. that day. Well I only received $250. I was not happy, but figured my W2 would be arriving any day I now and I would take it in and get the $!200, about a week later I take my W2 in and was told the money should load on to my card instantly. Well it didn't!! I had an email saying I needed to confirm amount of $450...I called because obviously this was not the amount I was told I would receive.

I also did over $500 in fees at this point. I was told that the go big refund advance was no longer available but I was approved for $450 advance. After arguing with them and getting hung up on, went back to link and confirmed for the $450, I needed to pay bills... I begin to start checking their website for my refund status, which says it doesn't recognize me, or I needed to wait 21 days...so I go to the IRS refund status website and it says my refund was sent and should arrive within 10 business days...these guys are idiots!!

I call JW to ask them why their website says something different then the irs, I was told they can only view what's on their site, and asked if there was anything else they could help me with.... I said yes I wanted to talk to a supervisor, I was told there wasn't one. I asked her if she was going to continue to give customers the wrong status information or if she was going to address the issue...I was hung up on!! These guys are the absolutely the worst company ever.

I get a letter in the mail saying they need my health insurance information. So I call. The tax preparer I went to and she told me that I needed to call their main office. I called her main office and the lady says oh, yeah, we had to fix something. We put it through. She was very vague about it and said it had nothing to do with the letter. From what I had and said in the letter for my health insurance because it seemed they didn't know what they were doing.

I never get a call back a week later. I call supposedly this lady ** was supposed to call in the morning and let me know what's going on. Again, did not get a call back. Jackson Hewitt told me this. So I call the state and find out that it was never even sent in. They have received. Nothing. Nothing has been rejected or process because again Jackson Hewitt didn't send it in though. They said they did.

So here I am almost a month later have no idea what's going on with my federal return having to take care of this myself. My state isn't even pot filed and I'm paying them over $500 for what? I am highly disappointed very frustrating considered. This is my hard earned money. And I need a resolution fast. So I don't expect one because nobody is reaching out to me. I’ve been a customer at the Sycamore View location for the past five years. However, this will be my final year as a customer with this company. Patrick initially prepared my taxes using my last check stub. He did nothing to maximize my chances of getting a larger refund, instead he charged me outrageous tax preparation fees and made numerous errors on my tax return. He placed my return in “Hold” status while I waited to receive my 2019 W-2 and my 1098-T form from the university. I am a second year graduate student.

When I returned with my official documents, my taxes were reviewed and prepared by Donna and Ms. **. I had been Ms. **'s previous customer for the past 5 years. They discovered Patrick’s numerous errors, as well as his deliberate attempts to charge me outrageous tax prep fees. He checked one box that would’ve charged me $80 for insurance, that he never discussed with me. He checked the boxes for two additional bordering states, AR and MS, which didn’t apply to me because I never worked in those states. This would’ve made my tax return a more complicated one, thus racking up additional tax pre fees. He discouraged me from claiming my 19-year-old son because he said I would only qualify for $14.00 (yes, $14.00).

I’ve never felt so cheated in my life. Although Donna and Ms. ** reviewed and eventually filed my taxes, I still felt robbed because I was charged $354.00 (Fed-Family & Homeowners Package) on a Federal Refund of only $484.00. This left me with an expected refund of only $129.05. I filed only myself and my 19-year-old son. I’m not a homeowner. Granted, I’m in a higher tax bracket this year, but No other options were offered to me. I later learned that H&R Block is charging more competitive rates, and that there are free tax prep agencies as well. I will be switching to one of those options, as I’ve never felt so disappointed with a tax prep service in my life. Last year, I was offered a discount by Jackson Hewitt for being a repeat customer, however, nothing was offered to me this year. They only wanted my money, and they got it. Never again. At this time the person who was originally helping me needed to pick up her kids so I was helped by her coworker. Luckily for me her coworker actually knew how to file my return and performed it correctly. There were many mistakes in the partially filed one at the time he took over. I requested the advanced refund. I asked to get it asap because I couldn't afford vet Bill's for my sick puppy. I was told I would be walking out with a card. When I asked for the card I was told that the money would be deposited in my bank. I asked if I would get the money just as fast as the card informing them that I have a sick puppy that needs medical care. He told me sometimes you get the money faster on the direct deposit. So I left without a card.

I never received the text message or email I was promised so I manually signed up. I was approved for a loan and I was told via text that my money would be loaded on my card within 1 hour. Obviously that never happened because I didnt have a card. When I called to receive a card I was told there was nothing they could do. I asked for the managers phone number. I was told to call district manager David ** at ** and when I call it tells me the number is no longer in service.

All in all I paid about 300 to file taxes through Jackson hewitt instead of completing them on my own. I did this so I could bring my puppy to the vets before my next paycheck. I didnt receive my refund advance as promised so my sick puppy and I are sitting at home $300 poorer with no one to contact with our complaint after almost 4 hours filing time and 2 hours hold time on the phone with support. Extremely unsatisfied.

Note: Gave Jackson Hewitt my 15yr banking (Acc& Rt #'s). 1st check their computer system reaches back to a very old # I had given them when previously filed I'm talking years ago! Of course it rejects it so they send out a check instead. Ok, I let that go so at 1 week later I go back into the Hewitt office to take my W2 and got approved for 2nd loan instantly like the 1st. The tax preparer and I purposely go over the acc & rt#'s again!! Three times even went to my bank account online so she could see the info!!! Guess what? The second check is in the mail again!!

Seven days today! Still no $$!! Guess what. No one ever called me. I had to call them even after 4 attempts to find out what I already knew what happened once again, FINALLY I got a manager on the phone and she checked and told me what had happened..again. I have been having my taxes done with Jackson Hewitt over 20 years. The last 2 years have been a total disaster. Last year I had all my paperwork except my 1095 for health insurance. Instead of holding them until I received the form they sent them thru and the IRS audited me and charged me $450.00 to do my taxes this year. I went in their office on January 14th 2020 at 5:30 on there was only one tax preparer there. He was helping a customer. There were 3 other customers plus me waiting. We were there until 8:30pm and the tax preparer said we would have to come back the next day. He wasn't doing anymore that evening.

I came back the next day. Had all my totals added all my forms except my 1095 so I told him I would bring in on the 16th. I ask for an advance and was given the American Express card and it was entered in the system. I brought my 1095 in on the 16th and completed my tax return. Mind you I had figured up all my totals. All they did was enter the numbers. I was charged $500 to have my taxes done then I was approved for a $1500 advance.

I had all my belongings in a storage unit and had gotten behind on my payment. The $1500 was going to allow me to bring it current. Instead of getting the advance on the card they mail me a damn check. I called Jackson Hewitt. I called Meta Bank which had not even processed the check yet. Ask them to please put it on my card. They said they couldn't not put over $1000 on my card and because it was $1500. They had to mail me a check. Because of this I have lost everything I own. What is the point of getting a advance if they are going to mail a check? I will not be using their service again.

I let them know that I destroyed the debit card and was never told to hang to it. So I went online and ordered a new one, received it and went to do taxes again. Gave Rollie my new card, he finalized my taxes, at any point did not let me know the cost.

I get home and check the balance on the card and there is not money on there. Come to find out the card I received was not the Jackson Hewitt American Express card and the money that I got refunded was put on the old debit card that I destroyed after the balance was use. I called Rollie and he told me that it is not his problem even after I handed him the card knowing that that was not the correct card. So now I have to wait another 7 to 10 days to get the correct card before I get my money. He charged me 269.00 and is not going to refund any of the money. Very poor and unprofessional service!!!!

We were approved for the biggest loan but choice the 750 and long story short our tax preparer did not put the whole account number and so by law our bank had to send back so now a check will be printed and mailed so much for 1 to 24 hours because the account number wasn't put in all the way. We have been in rv after hurricane Micheal and was using this for a place to rent. We have a 5 year old. Also we was happy about getting a place of our own with room finally after a year over a year now. And because of this we had to miss out and nothing can be done. At least the check should be printed in this office so we could go pick it up instead of waiting 7 to 10 days.

That should be at least they could do after it was the preparer's fault and was told to go to same office make sure they fix the other info for the regular tax check after IRS opens or same thing will happen. Now Jackson Hewitt took 4hundred and something to fill it out and they are not sure how to fix what has been already sent to IRS to put in the rest of our account number. Well what in the world.

I have used Jackson Hewitt before. In the past years I never had a problem until I go to do my taxes in 2018 and all of a sudden I get a letter from the IRS two years later saying that I owe taxes in the amount of $3,000. I get ahold of Jackson Hewitt and I get ahold of the IRS. The IRS stated that what I owed was due to not filing my husband's social security. I get ahold of Jackson Hewitt and start talking to the lady and she says that, "Yes you sign waivers that if there's a mistake we will fix it and that we're responsible." So I explained to her that my taxes did not include my husband's Social Security and that I don't know why they didn't put it in there. She stated, "Well we put things in Motion in there that you gave us so that's why your husband Social Security wasn't in there." I told her, "So this is my mistake?" And she said, "Yeah because we put in the information you gave us."

I told her, "So out of all the years that I've done my taxes I just decided to leave the Social Security out on this one when I know that there is taxes to be paid on it?" I said that don't make no sense. She said, "Well it's not our fault." I am not the only one they have done this to. I know of one other couple that they told them that it didn't matter if the Social Security was on there or not because it doesn't make a difference when doing the taxes so they had to owe over $3,000. I think they should be shut down and put out of business because how can they do this to people when they are supposed to be certified to do your taxes correctly!!!!

ZERO STARS FROM ME. SITE MAKES YOU CHOSE AT LEAST ONE WHICH IS NOT A REAL CONSUMER RATE THEN. Had seen advertising about the refund loan Jackson Hewitt offered. I usually use TurboTax. I did the prequalifying online and after I was prompted to fill create an account which then you fill in all your tax info and efile. I was then to make a my JH account. This is different than the first account of was prompted to make. I made this second account and one option is to select early access. Thinking this was where I was supposed to find the information for refund loan, again only reason I looked at JH site. I selected early access and I was told enter last name ss # and a document access code? Have no idea what that was. I entered the second choice. It gave me to do the standard authentication Option and entered all of my personal info including filing status Ss# DOB etc.

After hitting go. Message state saying not able to verify or authenticate my information. Thought this must be a mistake. I just efiled online. I called customer service I was told to call the store/office near me and ask them to provide the document access code. I did this and the preparer had no idea what I was talking about. I then contacted help desk via chat. Gave all my info. Included uploaded of snapshots with all the prompts it was asked after prequalifying. No kidding. I spoke to 4 different chat reps who all gave me different information.

I was last told to stop by office again and they can fix this. Waste of 2 days of my life. Not only was this young person not able to help me she could not even pull up any of my information. She gave me another number and said to call this person Monday to see if she could help. So far I've gotten 10 sorry for all the wrong information provided to me "customer" every time I have spoken to anyone. I then went back to chat so happened to be the same rep I spoke with who said I could go to office and they "would" fix it. Let her know office had no clue.

I then asked why after filing my taxes did I only received email about money being withdrawn for services and not a separate email about the refund loan. AS this is what the rep at store said automatically happens after you efile your taxes that everyone then receives an email about the 2 loan Option available. Chat rep then tells me I would receive an email from Bancorp within 24 hrs of filing. Well it's now been 48hrs and nobody can give me an answers. This has been the most ridiculous incompetent bunch of people working for this deceptive company I've ever dealt with. Don't waste your time with this company. I went to Jackson Hewitt today only because of the available loan based off of my tax return. Their website said I was approved for the $1000 Go Big Refund Advance. So I completed my taxes with the representative in a makeshift stand inside of a major store. I was told be the Jackson Hewitt rep (after multiple computer issues) that I have plenty of time to make my decision as I told her I had used TurboTax for the previous 8 years. Now that I've completed my tax information with Jackson Hewitt I've been charged over $400 dollars (which I was aware of when thinking I was getting a $1000 advance) for the service fees and they are only offering a $200 advance through MetaBank. This is bait-and-switch at its best.

I told the representative I do not want my taxes completed by Jackson Hewitt, again, she said I have plenty of time to decide. Now I'm told by the same representative that it was already submitted and she can't stop it because I brought in a W-2. I have no idea how that makes sense to Jackson Hewitt that a W-2 means I can't change my mind. So now I'm waiting on her supervisor. I will call the IRS and the BBB if this is not resolved.

Very judgemental when I told her I wasn’t married when I had my oldest. Then after leaving I was notified I was not approved for the loan. Now they claim that since I have them my W2 it has already been sent to the IRS (even though they aren’t accepting them yet) and they can’t retrieve it. So I decided to go to Jackson Hewitt this year for the early refund advance that they claim has high approval rates as long as your expected refund is at least $1500.00. Needing extra money for the holidays like they advertised on tv for the last month. They have you go online for a preapproval which I did. As you're waiting for your response it pops up with fingers???? Then comes back with, "Congratulations you’ve been approved to receive up to $500. Just bring in your most recent paystub to a local office starting December 18th" so that’s what I did. The kid filing my taxes yes kid about 18 years old was not very knowledgeable about taxes by the way types my info in and told me based on my paystub what he entered my expected tax refund was going to be $7800. That was a projection based on my last paystub. I had one more for the year so it could change a little but that was the projected amount.

With that being said he told me I’d definitely be approved for the early refund advance that everyone had been getting approved USF’s yada. If I had it loaded on an American Express I could have it within the hour and by the time we were done prefiling well long story short after finishing everything. Mind you I have a simple return that I usually do myself through Turbo Tax but needed some extra cash this year I went to Jackson Hewitt. I still hadn’t gotten a response if I was approved or not. He told me the system just being slow. When I get home I should have a text and email saying my early refund advance has been deposited. So I anxiously wait for the text. Finally get it and it says I was denied!! They charged me over $500 to file my easy tax return then I get denied after being told I had already been preapproved! I don’t owe the IRS or child support or student loans. That was one of the criteria of getting approved.

I think it’s a scam get more vulnerable single mothers like myself or struggling families in with the hopes of getting early advance then charge you over $500 to file your taxes just to get denied! I’ve been reading horrible reviews about them and seeing they charged one girl a student at that $800. It’s a joke. I decided to give them a bad review. I never give bad reviews or bother but I’m still pissed about this and to make it worse they tell me I can’t cancel my refund with them but yet they don’t have my w2 yet and IRS isn’t even accepting returns until end of next month! I’m going keep calling customer service. Do yourself a favor. Use free edition Turbo Tax. It’s simple. Easy to use. Not to mention my refund was almost a thousand dollars more last year with them than the expected return Jackson Hewitt gave me. My income was the same as last year. Not sure how losing extra $1000.

Oh one more thing. The girl next to me having her early refund filed was nodding out the whole time. Could barely keep her eyes open. Obviously high on something no teeth said it all. I heard the tax preparer tell her she did get approved for $500. Asked if she wanted it put on prepaid card or her own checking account. Unreal. That early advance was probably going towards her next fix. She’s probably one of those mothers who works just a few months out of the year is on welfare just to claim her 5 kids and get an EIC.

More reviews I’ve read every single one said they were also told they were preapproved for the advance just to be told later they were denied after they already paid hundreds have Jackson Hewitt file their taxes! Rant over. Stay away from this place. If you’ve got a simple return use turbo tax. If you're a business owner or have a more complicated return go elsewhere. They hire 18 year old inexperienced tax professionals that have no clue about taxes.

I thought Jackson Hewitt would be qualified to do taxes. My first appointment was with Frank ** at the Show Low, AZ office. He was very nice but when he said he didn't have 1041 forms I should have walked out. He said there was a consultant at another office who might be able to do them. He contacted Dawn ** at the Globe, AZ office who assured him she could file the 1041 forms (for estates and trusts). All my documents were scanned and sent to Dawn **. Several days later I hadn't heard from her. I called several times leaving messages with the receptionist and didn't get a call back from Dawn until I called Frank ** at the Show Low office to report that she wasn't returning my calls. Months went by and the taxes weren't done but when she needed personal information she could pick up the phone and call me. I gave her plenty of leeway to get them done.

My last phone call to her I was told by her receptionist that she was with a client, the taxes would be finished that day, that she had filed an extension for me, she would call me back later. I never heard back from her. I gave her a week, found a CPA who was willing to do the taxes. Called Dawn ** to let her know, of course she wasn't in, so I left a message with her receptionist letting her know she didn't need to finish the taxes, I found someone else but to call me so I could pay her for the work she did do. SHE NEVER CALLED! I was willing to pay her for her time and for filing the extension. You would think she would want to get paid for what little work she did do.

As a result I ended up having to pay interest and penalties because Dawn ** never filed an extension. If you’re looking for someone to do your taxes I recommend a CPA. The people at Jackson Hewitt are NOT Certified Public Accountants. They are tax consultants who can file taxes for you. Providing they have access to the right forms. TurboTax is a better alternative too. Advice for people who are unhappy. You can report the tax preparer to the IRS which is what I've done. They have a form at their website you can fill out. I started the whole tax process the first week of March 2019 and my taxes weren't completed until the end of July 2019. I didn't realize by going to Jackson Hewitt that I wasn't dealing certified public accountants, now I know they are just consultants.

Princeton, MN office 300 21st Ave Princeton, MN THEN tells me well you're suppose to fill out a form along with your taxes and send them in?

1st off I was NEVER NOT once given a "form" along with my paperwork that they supposedly filed and NEVER was I ever told I needed to send or do ANYTHING for that matter. Secondly so WTF did I pay $400 for then if I have to do it myself? When I could've just filed it myself then for FREE. I paid the fee so I could have the convenience of not having the hassle of having to do it being a single mom and my busy schedule. I was then told I could NOT speak to a Supervisor and to just leave a msg and that they do NOT give back any sort of reimbursement for any of the fees I paid. Very rude lady, completely unsympathetic and could care less. Very unprofessional. I most certainly will not be returning and I will be sure to share my story with anyone that I come across and will not be recommending this business to any of my business friends or friends/family.

Then a week later called to tell us it was in their desk drawer. Since it was out first time we were offered 100 off preparation and 100 gift card through email. Never got the email gift card. Then they came back and said we had to fill out fraud papers cause someone used my 9 yr old social. Then they had to mail in our taxes. Still have received our state taxes and we filed in March. Called to ask about the gift card that was promised and they said, "Well since you had to mail in your return we can’t offer you that." Was never told about that. This company is the worst. The young lady doing my taxes (Jennifer **) said she's new but if any problems arise her boss is there to guide her. An hour later in preparing my taxes Jennifer quoted, "You Owe $67,000 for 2018." I said WHAT!!! She then called her boss (Cindy) to come and review this amount. Jennifer agreed this sounds like too much and needed her boss to correct any mistakes made. Her boss told us she's been doing taxes over forty years and operates other offices. Another twenty minutes and Cindy found a $2,000 error which now shows I owe $65,000. I said this cannot be accurate. Cindy then said "I Wouldn't Lie To You. I know What I'm Doing."

We went home, couldn't even sleep that night due to the stress of what they said we owed. The following day we contacted an I.R.S. attorney which cost us $2,150 to research this problem. After preparing my taxes the amount came to $1,589.00 owing to the I.R.S for 2018. How can a tax firm (Jackson Hewitt) be off $63,411.00? And be so arrogant?

I filed my taxes with JH on February 5, 2019. This is my second year filing with them and I got completely screwed by them. I was charged way more this year to file my taxes with them. They charged me 624.00 to file one W-2 with a dependent. I had the same amount of info as last year and was charged way less in 2018. The tax preparer didn’t explain to me why I was being left with 83.00 after filing with them. She made it seem like it was the IRS that found that amount correct for me. I didn’t work very much in 2018 but it still didn’t make sense as to why I was only receiving 83.00.

I went home and looked online and saw the full amount I was suppose to be getting. I complained and complained and wrote JH on FB trying to get someone to explain their fees to me. No one could. Finally they agreed to let me file a second W-2 for free. At this point I was dealing with the GM of JH. LaTonya was her name. She was extremely unprofessional. She told me I could email her my W-2 form and she would file it for me. I did and didn’t hear anything back. I emailed her to see if she received my information, no response. I called her office and they told she would call me back. She never did. That went on for an additional two weeks after me emailing her.

I called the customer service line again and complained AGAIN on how poor the customer service was. LaTonya finally called back and I missed her call. That was on a Friday. I called that Monday and she wouldn’t even get on the phone. She had one of her employees tell me the amount I would be receiving. She was very quick and treated the situation like I was bothering them. I won’t be returning to them. We waited for over a month and received a letter from the IRS that certain forms had not been provided, which held up our Federal refund even longer. I couldn't help but wonder how forms were forgotten when we had a professional file for us? I had always filed my own in the past with no problems, but the one year I hire someone problems abound. Our refund was also $300 less than the expected amount although the reason has yet to be explained. I know it wasn't the cost of tax prep because the state refund had been issued and money was taken. When we asked JH about why this happened, he simply replied: "I can't give you an answer." Needless to say, we will be doing our own taxes in the future.

We've been getting our taxes done thru Jackson Hewitt going on 13 straight years now & until this year never really had any problems with them but after this last experience we've just had this time we definitely won't ever be coming back. Not only did the lady preparing our taxes this year have absolutely NO clue what she was doing she also screwed us out of getting the 1 thing we use them for which is the rapid cash refund. This lady had NO clue what she was doing like we were just absolutely blown away with the amount of knowledge this woman didn't know...

She actually kept asking us what things meant (like certain abbreviations, etc.). Then legit couldn't even answer pretty much not 1 question we asked her making me having 2 repeatedly keep flagging down the other tax preparer last for the answers to EVERYTHING!! She just kept making so many mistakes throughout our appt making it insanely obvious she absolutely no clue what she was doing!! Like putting my children down as being abled to be claimed by others which they are not... Then just repeatedly kept entering all sorts of other information wrongly as well making this appt this time around 10 million times longer than any other year we've gone 2 them...

But then if all that jazz wasn't already bad enough to add insult to injury at the very end also somehow ends up completely screwing us out of the 1 thing we ever bothered even coming back for every year thus far which is THE RAPID SAME DAY CASH REFUND THING WE DO EVERY YEAR!!! Now if hearing all that wasn't absolutely already horrifying enough well it gets better...

After sharing everything that had happened throughout our Appt, like all the mistakes, as well as the absolute lack of knowledge this preparer had, & etc. The Mt Pocono Office Site Manager (Mrs. Linda **, EA) promises to give us a complete refund for the entire amount of their preparation fees which was give or take like $600+ dollars that they have the flipping berries to even be charging people in the 1st place given said services not only decides she's just gonna blow us off for the next almost 25 days even after umpteen repeated calls were made on our end just trying to resolve our particular matter all in hopes of the possibility of still continuing tax services w/ them but still day after day we heard NOTHING back... She kept saying, "Oh I haven't heard anything back yet from corporate" then would promise to call with answers by the end of that particular business day but surprise, surprise she NEVER did!

So after giving her well over an entire month to find answers on this "refund" she promised we decided to give her at least 1 more try to make this right because I mean my husband & I are not jerks & we def understand that people do get busy & things do happen so we decided to stop in 1 more time 2 days ago to see what we can find out but she was so rude to us I couldn't even believe it so finally we had enough & asked her if we could just have the nine for this person she claims she's been calling or at least her boss's name, & number being how everything at this point has just gotten like way beyond the point of ridiculousness & it's just absolutely unacceptable at this point & she looked me square in the eye & flat out told me No!!!

And as she actually sat there actually smirking & rolling her eyes at me had the nerve to then proceed to tell me that getting her bosses # wouldn't ever, EVER happen proceeding to say in the most cockiest way that she is her own boss & she will call when she calls!!! Like whaaat?!? Seriously Who acts like this??! I'm telling you save your time, money & sanity & just go some place else or better yet just do your own taxes cause I'm telling you this place has turned into your absolute nightmare! And after after 13 loyal years of coming back year after year along with all of our many friends & family we've sent their way will no longer use these guys ever again!!! We had gone to Jackson Hewitt for the first time this year. We usually go to H&R Block or would have a family friend do them for us but this time we thought we would try something different, mostly for the advanced payment that wasn't supposed to have cost a dime. First of all we didn't get the advanced refund we paid fifty dollars for them to tell us no and one week because the Jackson Hewitt lady doing our taxes got a social wrong. She had mixed up 2 numbers. They had not called us to fix the situation... Not once. So there's a week, after it was fixed and put in right an hour later they said we had not qualified. Every single time we had went to our previous place we had qualified because we always have gotten at least 8000.00 back. So that was 50 bucks down the drain plus the 575.00 they cost to do a ** job and slower return that I have ever had. And they do this automatically so that fifty is going to be taken.

We did not get the 200.00 for switching either. Then the card they gave us finally received money on it over the 20 days plus the week because of their mistake. We had used the card a couple times and my husband accidentally put in a wrong pin once... They locked it down, but not that same day four days later. Also locking us out of the account login. After we had called to fix it we had to call again because she did not unlock the account on the site. Calling them was a huge hassle. It would take over an hour wait every time.

We made yet another call because we had not yet received the personalized card and it had been at least 20 days. They said we had never called in to get one at all which was a lie. But we had only called to ask how long it was supposed to take. That was the only question we could get out but was not answered whatsoever because they DO NOT LISTEN to your problem. They had informed us they would have to send it now. Two days later we got a card in the mail. Card was useless because they had sent a replacement now after we had tried explaining we only wanted to know how long and we had indeed called the day of the taxes to get this done. We had only wanted to make sure the address was right and get a timeline.

So now we have two cards that we cannot use. Finally got one to work and unblocked with days of time consuming calls. WE STILL now have to wait ten more days for the replacement card that we "had not put in for the first time." This took 20 days. The first time they said 7-10 days. This was the absolute WORST experience ever. I will never go back EVER!!! And I am not usually a complainer.

FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! Spare yourself the grief!! We paid $279 to get our taxes done, our second year using Jackson Hewitt... RUN FOR THE HILLS PEOPLE! I beg of you, DO NOT use this company for ANYTHING!! First the girl we had an appointment with was answering texts, says, "Sorry from my kid." Like that's any less professional. Between her and the other girl working they spent the majority of the time talking about anything and everything other than taxes, making my husband late for work (he had over an hour to get to work, taxes NEVER take that long). Okay, they were nice. But it was just unprofessional. They couldn't talk and work. Ya know?

The incompetence first began when the girl we had our appointment with needed some help. The other girl "click, clacks" erasing all the numbers/information the other girl had entered!! She shrugs and laughs it off. At one point the girl doing our taxes completely mis-read an amount of money making all of us (including the other girl that worked there) go bug-eyed. We opt for the free advancement from our taxes (they came up with some small number, no idea how). Whatever, it was something, we could use it.

It's all electronic. Have them file to get a direct deposit of our taxes (always do this, 15 years, never any issues). The girl also tries to get us to have an account through Jackson Hewitt. Talking about how fast she gets money put on it, how convenient it is for her. Her checks go to it blah, blah. No thanks. We need to go. Still mentions it a few more times, even asking the other girl to throw in her two cents. Mentioning also, as a class they offer to learn how to do taxes. Really? NO THANKS.

We finally get out of there, she did tell us it could be up to 5 days to get the advanced money. Every-day I check our account, especially after getting an email saying it's coming. Hitting 3 days, nada. I get online and make my J H profile so I can monitor when our taxes are coming. Don't see anything about the advancement, I use the online customer service chat option. Explain that I got an email saying it would be in our account within 48 hours and it's the end of the 3rd day. Ask if she could look into it. Says, "No problem. Let me pull up your account." THEN CLOSES THE CHAT! Essentially "hanging up".

I took a photo of my screen for proof. Then I call the "1-800" number and the lady is very short, rushing me off the phone. She says give it another day or two and mentions some number. So I start looking through my finance folder for my checkbook to see if the numbers add up or what these numbers are and she is like, "I don't even know what they are too, they probably aren't for your bank account. Wait a few days." Basically hangs-up on me too. Monday comes and goes. Tuesday is now here and still NADA.

My husband gets on the phone and calls the same "1-800" number. They give him the number of the woman in-charge of our area. He tells her about the incompetent employee who did our taxes, how two people I contacted basically hung-up on me and the ladies who did our taxes obviously made grand errors than what we saw while we filed. They tell him there is nothing they can do about giving us any sort of refund, even though we have been going through all of this, paid $279 FOR THIS??? Plus, the same day we filed we got a flyer to get $75 off if we filed with them. Which by the way said $55 on the front and $75 on the back.

The second "1800" rep my husband spoke to even said that was weird. GREAT advertising people. See? Total incompetence, in every tier of this place. It was like... GIVE US SOME KIND OF A BREAK!! Not to mention, the girl never printed out our copies of our taxes. She asked, we said yes. With all the jabbering they were doing and my husband now antsy and ready to leave to get to work, we both forget until it all started really going downhill. All we received was a paper with the basics; the amounts we'll be getting back and how much we paid to get our taxes done.

The second customer service rep gives my husband a number to the lady who runs our branch. Mind you the first person he spoke to was like, "Nothing can be done, bye." After an hour or so my husband was like, "NO. This is bs." Called back. Gets another rep who gives him the number to the area rep. He leaves her a message, she then has the employee who did our taxes call my husband back to personally apologize?? WHAT?!? He said he could hear her boss (the lady in-charge of our branch) feeding her exactly what to say. WOW. Just wow!! We wanted to know where the heck our money was. What happened?? How did this happen? Makes those responsible have actions taken against them so this doesn't happen to others. YA know? NOT AN APOLOGY!! She says there is nothing that can be done. Will look into a refund for the hassle we have been going through.

Meanwhile I found an email saying our direct deposit didn't work, so it will now be another 5-7 days until it comes in. GREEAT! Which prompts my husband to demand more answers. What is going to happen with our tax money now?? Can they stop the paper check and fix the direct deposit? Noe can we definitely get some kind of refund for going through all of this?? The lady is all perplexed and tells us she'll look into it and call us back. My husband spoke to her one more time a few days later. That's all we know. Her mailbox is full and she won't pick up the phone. I think he told me she was going to see where our taxes are in the process (if the check was already being mailed etc, what happened with the direct deposit yada yada).

When I go online and try to find out where our taxes are, no information comes up. Says we should've received an email stating they had been filed. I keep checking, NADA. While also saying "Less Than 21 Days", as in that's the amount of time they'll be here. Really? That's how to "monitor" the progress of your taxes? This all started February 7th and it's now March 6th!! There is no way to email anyone. The only "messaging" system they have is to write them on FB or Twitter because THAT'S SO PROFESSIONAL!

Now, whenever I try to get ahold of someone online via their chat representative set-up, no one is available; at any time or day. I have tried. I told my husband we should try the "1-800" number again, but thus far out of the 3 "1800" customer service reps we've spoken to only one of them was competent enough to help us in some way, having enough common sense to know their advertisement department was bs too. For the love all things, spare yourself the grief and GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!

I’m like, "Great." because I paid like $300 last year. So long story short I get my income taxes and did not receive my state. I called and asked why. They said, "Oh we took that for our fees." WHAT???!!!! That was about $600. I am super pissed, I will never file with them again. And when I told them the amount that I was told they said, "Oh well nothing we can do." My granddaughter had her taxes done by Jackson Hewit. She is 19, single mother, and barely making it. To file her federal taxes as a head of household with 1 dependent, and getting earned income credit. No itemizing. You can’t get any simpler than this. They charged her $458. Broken down to 369 for federal, $14 for storage, and $75 for Assisted refund. I called to complain, but before I did that, I asked what their fees were to do what I described above. "I’m sorry, we can’t give you fees because the fees are generated by the computer when you are done." I’m doing her taxes next year. I wish she asked before she went there.

I filed my taxes with Jackson Hewitt for the first time this year. I chose them because they had a loan advance program. The preparer filed everything but her printer was broken so she gave me no paperwork. I was told I had to have the American Express Serve card in order to get the loan and the funds will post between one hour to ten days. After fourteen days I called wondering why the funds weren’t on the card. The same preparer got an attitude - told me she filed the same way for everyone and told me “it’s not her deal, I was going to have to call the bank.”

I called the bank and they said there’s no loan request submitted. When I called Jackson Hewitt back the preparer was much nicer and explained she just realized the “computer glitched,” and the paperwork never got filed. I had to go back in and re file. The money surprisingly went through within 10 minutes. I then went to an ATM and found out you cannot withdraw money (even though Jackson Hewitt says you can!). After charging me $450 dollars to file my taxes they said gave me a $20 dollar credit for the mistake but did not. I really would not suggest using them - it has been nothing but stress. By the way if you’re lucky enough to get a card that will let you withdraw you have to go to a specific ATM so good luck finding one.

I should have walked away when they couldn’t give me a price until they virtually figured out my simple tax but didn’t. The cost was much higher than I usually pay so I told her to give me back my papers and I would return to my other company. She said, “Wait, we compete with H&R Block so let me send a message to the main office to see if I can do it for less”. She ended up lowering the cost by $80.

I let her do the taxes since I had invested 40 minutes already. I came home and watched their commercial that plays often saying if person switches to their company, there is a $200 perk. I called the office asking about it and kept getting the runaround. The person I “needed to talk to” was never available. I called 6 different times over a two week period with no return call from them. I finally gave up. I wish I would have read the awful reviews before I used them. Lesson learned.

I normally go to H&R Block to do my taxes and the result is the same...awesome!! But this year I decided to try JH because of the money advance. Christmas really wrung me out so I needed some funds to get over the hump. It was still January so I use my last check stubs. The tax prep asked me if I wanted the advance and gave me limit options. I opted for the 2500 but only received 200$ on a prepaid card that I couldn't even withdraw cash from. So that was a letdown then the outrageous fees...500$ for tax prep??? Why?

So in February the tax prep told me to bring in my w2s and I would get the remainder of the 2500, that of course was a setup to get me to finish filing my taxes and allow them to add on a second tax prep fee. That second go around my card was loaded with 300$. So now I'm out of between the loan and the tax prep, 1000$. What a ripoff. Plus they messed up my state tax and I ended up owing instead of getting a refund. I will never go back to JH again, this has been the most frustrating tax season ever and usually around tax season you get a little relief...not this year. Tax season has been one emotional rollercoaster. I will make sure I tell any and everybody to stay away from Jackson Hewitt! I will let the public know what a charlatan this company is!

So disappointed. The worst first experience I have ever had with a company. I haven't ever used a professional tax preparer, but some things happened and I needed to get my refund back quicker for a fee through the refund advance offered by Jackson Hewitt. I set an appointment for 2pm at Arab and I was there on time for my appointment. I was under the impression that the representatives at the booths are actually the ones preparing the taxes, apparently this is not the case, so my information had to be sent to someone else to file and I had asked about the refund advance and wanted to make sure that I would be able to get paid today as I have a bill I need to pay.

The rep stated that wouldn't be an issue and said that the tax preparer would be done with my taxes within an hour or so and would call me to sign paperwork and to get the card. I waited around till 4pm and still hadn't heard anything, so I went back up to the rep and she explained she was having issues with the technology. No big deal, but would have liked to receive a call about it so I could decide next steps. Rep stated that she could take pictures of my information and send it to this person. I asked at this point where this person is located because I am very much in need of getting this money in hand today, and she said that this other rep is at the Guntersville Walmart and that this rep would actually be able to prepare the taxes to be filed.

So I drove to the other Walmart and had explained the situation to this new rep and she tells me as soon as I get there that most people that have the card actually have funds within a half hour of activating the card, so again telling me I would be walking away with money in hand even though it was almost 5 at this point and banks would be closing. Elizabeth was the name of this rep and she was super sweet and relatable and we discussed life and why I was in the situation that I am today, again I have said repeatedly that I need to have this money today and that is the only reason I would be using a tax preparer instead of doing it myself.

So the appointment goes off without a hitch and even though I am not getting as much as I thought I would, at least I have enough to pay said Bill and that in the end is worth it. I was taken back at the amount that was charged for the prep and asked if that was standard for a tax return, because 179 sounds a bit steep when you are advertising 48 for federal, but again, I was in a rush, so I would pay the fee and deal with it. So Elizabeth got everything filed and started printing the paperwork and did not bother to go through and show me any of it just stating that the paperwork is unnecessary.

Once everything was submitted and she pulled out the card she tells me that I will be getting a 100 gift card and that the amount of taxes would be loaded on the card, and only after all was said and done she said that it could be on there tonight or it could be so much as 21 days for it to be on this card that I received, but that it could take even longer if I got declined for the refund advance and at this point tells me that the refund advance is not a guarantee and that it could take longer to get the refund, even longer than if I had filed online, which we had discussed previously.

I am very defeated at this point because I thought I would be getting more back, which I had dealt with, but flat out being lied to, multiple times by this rep was absolutely unacceptable and when she sensed my distress she stated that she gave me 20% off of the fee because of the inconvenience of having to drive down and wait and all that, and that a way to quick money would be these referrals that if I tell friends, family, or even strangers. She stated that if I stood outside of her booth and gave people that walked up this piece of paper and as long as they filed their taxes with her that both the stranger and I would get money from it.

This bothered me even further as I had expressed my dislike of the tax preparer trade as the fees to me are outrageous. Needless to say I will not be returning to this establishment, ever. Furthermore, I will be reaching out to corporate to have the refund that was filed with them to be cancelled. This is the worst experience I have ever had with any business.

I understand that the office may be busy so I call back today as they STILL haven't called me. Preparer says, "I see there's a problem with your state return. I'll call you back in 30 minutes." Hour later... No call so I go into the office. Manager tells me she is in the phone with tech support trying to figure it out. I waited for an hour for her to tell me that they are going to call her back in a few days with a resolution... Not acceptable.

I call their National customer service number and I'm told the IRS stopped by STATE return. Made absolutely no sense to me because they deal with federal returns. Call IRS, they say they didn't stop anything and assured me that in their system it doesn't appear that I owe anybody anything so there would be no need to stop my taxes. They also told me that my federal was accepted and being processed. Call corporate back, different person says "IRS typically doesn't deal with the state"... He also tells me that whatever the issue is it's up to the tax preparer to fix it... Call the local office back. I have to wait for the manager to come back to work but she'll be in touch with me when tech support is in touch with her. Unlike most other complaints I was satisfied with the fees and the refund advance... But the runaround in why my state return is in limbo is totally unacceptable. The whole thing took forever because she didn't know what she was doing and kept having to call the main office for help. She asked me if I had health insurance for the year, which I did. My fiance filed his own taxes but needed a copy of his previous year return that this same office prepared last year. He drives all the way up here for a copy, gets back to work and they have printed him off the wrong copy. She's gonna try to charge me $25 for the right copy.

The 3 times I've gone in the office she acts and looks like she's stoned out of her mind. They never open when they are suppose to. You always have to sit and wait. They got her handling other people's money. I had to call another location to have them fax the copy to us. Fast forward to mid Feburary and the IRS website is still saying no info avaliable about my return, so I call them. Apparently the "preparer" and I use that term loosely was suppose to ask for a copy of my insurance proof and send it in with my return. There is a hold on my taxes. I call Jackson Hewitt and mind you none of them including the corporate office is worth anything, They have to file an amended return all the while telling me this won't cause a hold up of my return.

I call the IRS and they tell me that this kind of error will have an 8 week hold on my return!!! No apology from Jackson Hewitt no returned calls or emails from corporate. They hire these bodies in to handle people's money that know absolutely nothing about tax prep, make enormous mistakes on clients' returns then don't take blame for it. I will never let Jackson Hewitt touch my taxes again and I suggest everyone go some place else so you are not in my situation. So why the heck didn’t they file them to the IRS when they were suppose to. I’ll never in my life go back and there was 6 of us that went there and they won’t go back either. Then you try to call them and always say that nobody in the office or helping a customer. They a terrible company. I want my tax forms back and file somewhere else. They so bad!

I'm so disgusted with the misleading and horrible tax specialist. They tell you no fee small loan then charge a fee. Charged me over 600 for one W2 to be filed. Talked to them a few days ago and they told me my state refund would be available today. So when nothing was showing on the card I called 3 different #s to get answers. Then I find out they took it to pay for the loan. So since when do these loans get deducted from state and why didn't your representative tell me that. Instead I was told it got deducted from the federal. So they either don't have answers or they just simply tell you what you want to hear. What a joke. I WILL NEVER USE THEIR SERVICES AGAIN. THAT WAS THE FIRST AND LAST TIME. WAY TO GO JACKSON HEWITT. Y'all blew it completely. Not one good review this year and they're all saying the same thing. Not a coincidence!!!

I was depending on that just because I have child tax credit. I was only getting 300 for state but right now I needed that. I only get paid every 2 weeks and when I contacted them they said it was policy I signed in office. No one told me nothing about it. Said all fees would come from federal. They didn’t even print out my paperwork in office. I will take my service elsewhere next year and I believe because of the leading on they should reimburse everyone their fees.

I wasn’t informed I that I didn’t qualify for the amount they promised to give me of $3500 and I only received $1100. So after all said and done, we paid way more than just the little $49 or whatever it is to file. I understand state was more also... But in the end to be charged $490 for the person preparing my taxes and not to tell me... is BS... We were under the impression that we only paid what they advertise up front nothing that high. And to say, "Oh you were a Walmart employee you got a Walmart gift card for $100." Well that still doesnt cover the fact in total that this was almost $600 if you add the Fed and State to her stupid fee... So highly upset. It's not even funk... Feel like that we have been ROBBED!

Well I start off by saying Jackson Hewitt is trash, you guys have took advantage of people in a huge way, knowing people really could have used the tax loan. The prices are outrageous. I personally was approved for the $200 loan then I was sent an email saying once I receive my W2 I could receive the other $750 so I was excited. Once my W2 was placed in the system I was denied the remaining balance $750 but I was already approved. I need answers. Why are you false advertising Jackson Hewitt to make a comeback.

What are you guys going to do for the following years because it seems to me you have lost majorly of your customers due to false advertisement and $$$ are outrageous just file simple tax returns. I really hate I had to give you guys 1 star. Worst experience I ever had. Even after I spoke with customer service about not wanting to file with them any longer they told me it was too late. After waiting 5 min for the very unfriendly middle age ** man to even notice me I see the ** an equally unfriendly woman on the other side finish up with someone. I walk around to her side, she ask if she can help me. I tell her I have a 3pm appointment to file my taxes, so she gives me a paper to fill it out and then wait for her to continue to attempt to dump the paper from her shredder, which by the way she has been dumping since I walk up. When she finally able to complete her difficult task she then begins asking me question, and after a couple minutes begins to put my info in to the computer.

Once she starts laying out all my w-2s of which I had 5, and I have already told her when she was questioning me, and I had also written on the paper she gave me, it seems almost as if she was thinking of ways to get out of doing them and suddenly says,”Oh just to let you know, because of the multiple w-2s this could cost you up to 300,” and I say, ‘Well in that case don’t even worry about it.” She thinks seems a bit surprised and says, “What? Are you sure.” “Oh yes I am sure.” She say ok and kind of just shoves all my paperwork at me. After reading the sign on her desk stating that if for any reason you start filing and decide later not they will pay you 50. I figure that’s why she so quickly decided to hit me with a ridiculous fee.

Well that and the fact that the open jar of cheese dip and chips on her desk seemed to indicate I may have been interrupting snack time. After reading the other reviews here I now understand why she seemed so surprised that I declined their outrageous fees. I also received the email saying I was pre approved for an refund advance loan 1450 without a fee or 2000 with fee. I mentioned this to her so I am sure she assumed I was desperate enough to agree to 300, and while I am struggling I cannot see paying that much and after reading that most people were later denied I am SO Thankful I passed.

I did not change my appointment so I called. The system rescheduled me because all of the tax preparers in the office I go to where on sick leave due to the flu besides one. I ask if I can go to another JH. They tell me that is fine. So the one I was going to go to didn't answer their phone so I went to the one at Walmart on Towne Blvd in Middletown. The lady there assures me it is no problem. She has me and my husband write our socials down on sticky notes. I tell her my w-2s are loaded to my JH, and she asks me what that is.

I am sure it is just a language barrier so I keep trying to explain. Then she tells me she cannot use my JH and I need a paper copy of my W-2. Can I just send it to her personal email address. I reluctantly agree wanting to get this over with, but she can't "find me the system" so an hour later she puts me on hold so she can do another client while she waits on a return call. We are done at this point. Collect all of our stuff. Go to the JH we normally go to. The computers are now down. We wait almost another hour to get for it to be our turn. The lady there is very kind, funny, and knowledgeable. I feel like I should have had a discount on my services for the problems we experienced.

I feel like more should have been done than an, "I am sorry," though. And I really feel after talking to a lawyer that something should be offered to me to monitor my credit after an employee took personal information from me on their private email address. Next year I will just file myself. At least then, I will be able to use my documents correctly and safely.

Which caused for a refund which we should've never received. I have had 3 other CPA's look into this. They all agreed it was done wrong and now needs to be amended. I bring this to the attention of the lady that filed our last year in Harrisburg Illinois and she has the audacity to tell me to stop harassing her. Well since this costly mistake will cost me interest and penalties I think they should have to cover it.

They will take your money for a 100% guaranteed accuracy claim but yet when an issue arises due to the lack of knowledge on tax laws it's all the sudden not on them... Mistakes are ok. What's not ok is when the person flat out doesn't want to take responsibility for the mistake. So I believe in my heart this 100% guarantee accuracy is a false advertisement to grab us and suck us in. Believe me never again. I have a feeling they will not take responsibility for this mistake and I will just have to pay someone else to do the amendment for me.

I been going to Jackson Hewitt since my own personal tax preparer passed away in 2012. The lady i been working with there since 2013, is the reason I kept going back. She was very friendly, becoming personal on a outside level of friendship, giving me her personal cellphone number. I went to her in January of 2018 with my taxes, telling me she will take care of them, having me sign the pad, not giving me any paperwork afterwards. Trusting her, I didn't question anything. With her telling me at first, keep an eye on my Jackson Hewitt debit card. I did so, nothing was there. I called her for several months after, finding out that she blocked my number. I then get several letters from the IRS, questioning my identity. Couldn't get through to the IRS until January 2019, asking why they sent me the letter.

They told me on the phone that my identity is in question due to an possible error. They (IRS) wouldn't tell me any more than them telling me that I needed to get past tax records from Jackson Hewitt to help identify my identity. Not really understanding why. I called Jackson Hewitt, read off the letter to the manager, telling him how I came into the office to see who I have been seeing in their office since 2013... Asking them if they could help me with my situation. I told the whole truth due to me despising liars. The manager told me he wants a copy of the letter, as for I only received a $25.00 check for my 2016 taxes. Since I didn't work in 2017. Telling me they also wanted a copy of the measly $25.00 check. How can and why would I give Jackson Hewitt that type of information? That has nothing to do with why I didn't receive my return for 2016 in 2018... when the tax preparer promised to take care of everything. With me trusting her.

There is now a possibility that I'm going to be audited! Due to this possibility, I once again called Jackson Hewitt to talk to the manager. He thinks I'm lying because the lady said I never came to see her! Ok, I may have texted some things over, sorry because I'm just trying to tell my story... I was told that they won't help with anything outside of past tax paperwork. Is her job really worth losing due to her filing a fraudulent tax 1040A form, possibly being a federal crime? Well, hopefully who reads this is able to understand why I'm jumping around with all of this.

My wheels in my head are turning so fast that I can't type everything that is going on with this situation in order. I have NEVER filed my own taxes due to not knowing how. She (tax preparer) filed my taxes on paper, with my taxes being redirected to several addresses that weren't mine. She received my taxes. Now, I can't file my taxes this year until everyone and everything is taken care of. Who knows how long this will take. Nothing like being a victim of identity theft through a tax preparer! I am not only going to press charges, BBB will also be involved with whatever other place that can shut these scumbags down!

So she turns the computer towards me... And I’m walking her through things and SEEING her not entering my 1098 info correctly. She doesn’t listen as I try correcting her... And announces my return being $1500 less than TurboTax.

I even pull my phone out and walk her through my return... showing her my return is correct... And I remember a statement from the Jackson Hewitt website stating they beat anyone by $100. Well I say perhaps I should stick to TurboTax as she’s confused and do I owe anything? She states “No...” But says she has to copy my papers and I state, "I’m sorry. I’m using TurboTax. I'm completely dissatisfied with Jackson Hewitt. We took our return in with my husband last check so we can get the advance of the 3500. We were told that all we could get that day was $200, we can get the rest of it when we bring W2 in and the taxes are sent off. A week later we brought in our W2 to Them, we were told that we should get our money in about 30 minutes. I asked the clerk how much we would be getting and she said 1200. I asked her why we were only going to get 1200 when we are supposed to be getting 7000 back, why would we not be getting the 3500. She said the bank determines how much we get back. 30 mins later I check my card and there is only $250.

The reason why I went to Jackson Hewitt was because I had bills that were had disconnection notices on and my mortgage and car payment were a month late so I was trying to catch up until the rest of my money came in. I normally do my taxes for free with Turbo Tax but they charge me $600 at Jackson Hewitt. I was on the phone for 2 hours with the bank because Jackson Hewitt said they are the one to determine the money. When I called the bank they said Jackson Hewit were the ones who determines the money.

Then the bank calls Jackson Hewitt customer service on 3 way and both Jackson Hewitt and the bank go back-and-forth saying, "No. You're the 1 who determined to put the money on the bank on the card," so no one is taking responsibility who actually puts the money on the card. I believe this is false advertisement and a way for Jackson Hewitt to take people's money that would not normally go to Jackson Hewitt. This is unfair and unjust and I will never go to Jackson Hewitt again to do my taxes. They are taking advantage of people so they can get rich. Also I ask them why am I getting charge so much for Jackson Hewitt to file my taxes. I was advised that since I am self employed it is more forms they have to send.

They computer generates the whole return. All they do is fill in the blanks. So that computer Generates all the extra forms that they have to send off. Not only that I did all the work and added up all my receipts and mileage and all she had to do is enter what I had on a piece of paper. $600 is little extreme. The breakdown on a $600 was $499 for them filing, $49 for their $49 guarantee there, $49 for the bank to give Advance. If I knew that I was only gonna get $450 I woulda never let them file my taxes. I believe to only to get $450 in advance when I am getting $7000, does nothing for me. It's all a scam.

I called again today's been another hour on the phone and was told that there is no one else I could speak to. There's nothing else is gonna be done that I just had a wait till the IRS to release my refund. They didnt even offer to reimburse me for some of my filing fees. I told her I would have never let them file my taxes if that was all I was going to get back now. She said that's the gamble I took. I don't know about you but $600 is a lot of money that I could have put to better use.

Wasn't enough now for the (loan) which you have to pay $50 just to apply for it... Doesn't sound very free to me... After all that only $500 ends up being approved. Ripoff. I would have just done my own e-file for free. Basically I paid $500 to do taxes and after being duped on the overselling up to $3500 so called loan I get 500 bucks. Total ripoff. On December 26, 2019, my husband and I went to Jackson Hewitt to receive the advance with our last pay stub. We thought we were in good hands since the MANAGER was the one doing our taxes... Boy was I wrong. The manager was looking confused through the procedure and in the end my fiance qualified to receive $300.00. He used his own card, also through MetaBank, for the direct deposit and was told he should receive the funds in an hour. No funds reached the card so we return to Jackson Hewitt to ask why and discovered the tax preparer input a extra 0 in the account number. He supposedly rectified the problem and said give it 24 hours.

48 hours later, still no funds. We call the so-called manager and he says to call MetaBank because he did everything correctly. We call MetaBank and they say they have to send it out in a check. Ok, fast forward to January 29th... still no check, so we decide to discuss this with the so-called manager/tax preparer when we take the W-2 in. The manager/preparer said he didn't understand and it was in MetaBank hands but since he fixed the account number the $1200 advancement for today would post in 24 hours with no problem.

Today is the 31st and still no money. We just called and was told the manager/preparer never fixed the account number and the $300 check came back already so they will put it with the $1200 and it takes 7 days. We inquired about the cashier's check statement on the bottom of the paperwork and was told they can't do that. We have been going through this for over a month. How does any advancement turn into a 2-month process? Is this false advertisement or untrained tax preparation? And why is there no solution but to wait? Who pays almost $500.00 to end up waiting the regular wait periods? Jackson Hewitt customers, that's who! Never again!

To make the story short the only reason I went to JH was to get a loan on my taxes early. I usually file with TurboTax but I really needed some extra cash to catch up on things as it's almost February and after struggling to pay bills in December and January I decided to go to JH. I got there and the staff was nice and the visit was pleasant overall but it's what the false hope they build up in you then it's the ripoff and the reason I'm never going back. They make you think you're pre-qualified for a big loan of up to 7000 but what's funny is to find out if you're approved you have to file your taxes first. Ok cool, right? My refund was worth more than the 7000 offered but I was denied any loan and never even had a chance to choose an amount.

How could that be that I'm denied even when they will get all of their money back from my taxes guaranteed. Then after speaking with them about this they told me it was nothing they could do about it and I would have to wait until the IRS sends my refund to get my money. Wow are you serious? So I just spent almost 600 just to be denied for money I really needed and then on top of that I have to wait the same amount of time as if I had done them myself on TurboTax. That's so far beyond disappointing. I'm extremely pissed and had I known this I would never have wasted my time or money with them.

600 for the same thing I could've did with TurboTax, I need a refund on my fees, they don't deserve my money or anyone else who's probably needing money only to not get what they want yet overpay for something you can do yourself. I hope it is a lawsuit brought against them for being so misleading and the suffering they bring upon customers who like me are forced to wait on money and endure hardship as if the shutdown already wasn't bad enough. I recommend TurboTax by far and it's less than 100 for the method I choose. Don't get fooled or ripped off by JH.

I have had my taxes done at Jackson Hewitt for 5 years. I know the fees are high, however we all know why we agree to pay them. Most of the time I find myself in a pinch for extra cash in mid January. This year the fees not only skyrocketed but almost no one received the loan amount they were promised or what they had received in previous years. Something is very wrong with this company, why would they want to lose established customers? I can tell you I will not be returning and I’m sure I won’t be the only one to use a different service next year. The loans are what draw people in. Pissing them off is what draws them away. Good luck next year Jackson Hewitt. It’s hard to run a business if you lose the majority of your customers!

I went into the Jackson Hewitt Kiosk in Wal-Mart on January 19th with my W-2. And before I go any further, the lady who helped me at this location was so nice and extremely helpful. This has nothing to do with her. Before going into the kiosk, I filled out the pre-qualifying information on the Jackson Hewitt website. It immediately said I was approved for a $1,500 no fee refund advance. I then received an email shortly after saying the pre-qualification was for $2,500. After proceeding to get my taxes filed, I received another email that evening saying I was only getting $500. My actual refund is over $7000 but I needed this money early to catch up on bills after Christmas.

I called the tax office in town that set-up the kiosk and the owner of the location personally told me that Jackson Hewitt corporate is really upsetting a lot of his customers with this bait and switch tactic. After multiple hours of research and phone calls, I have discovered that this has to do with Jackson Hewitt's relationship with MetaBank. Jackson Hewitt says you are pre-qualified but they are not even the one's providing the loan, so how can they pre-qualify you? Metabank is giving out sweeping denials to everyone based off of these reviews, no matter what your situation is and apparently there is nothing anyone can do about it. This relationship has really hurt the image of Jackson Hewitt. I hope someone starts a class action lawsuit over this. They are taking advantage of poor working people who are just trying to get their head above water financially. It is sick, really sick. FIRST TIME CUSTOMER, NEVER GOING BACK!

I finally got my W2 from my job as they don't hand them out until the last week of January and you can't get them online. So my wife and I picked up my W2 and head to Jackson Hewitt to file our taxes. Except when we got there the lady went to pull our file up to finish up the tax preparation from when we got the holiday advance in December, she informs us that Jackson Hewitt (not her) apparently already submitted our taxes to the IRS without our W2.

I asked how that is possible since we didn't finish the preparation as we didn't have a W2 to submit, and their paperwork states they will not submit taxes to the IRS without a W2. She told us she has no idea how it happened but that we have to now wait until February 15th to have it amended. I contacted Jackson Hewitt's customer service just to be told "You'll just have to amend your return." No apology, no willingness to return our tax preparation fees, nothing. This is their fault and now we have to wait months longer to get our refund and risk another audit. I never had a problem with this place until this year.

I have been a customer for 5 years, but will not be returning. Here's why. I decided to go in and apply for the early $400 refund with pay stub. One week before Christmas. I was emailed saying I was approved and the money would be direct deposited the next day. After a few days I called my bank and they said there was a hold on the check. It would be sent back. JH said MetaBank entered my correct checking account number but it was listed with my savings account. I received a check in the mail in January. JH said, "We will give you a discount of a $150.00 of the 500 something we are charging you to have your taxes done. It won't happen again."

Still beyond mad and overtrusting, I went in with my W-2 One week ago today. JH assured me the same thing would not happen again. I was approved for the early 3,100.00 and received a email my early refund would be deposited into my account the next day. After spending days trying to figure out where my money was I found out JH/MetaBank never even tried to direct deposit my money this time and a check was sent out last Thursday. The manager where I had my taxes done has not been helpful. She said, "I was told to give you this number," which led me to the "Denied early refund" number. They had no account with me.

Someone from corporate called me last Thursday and said to give her a day or two "to figure out what happened and what we can do to help you in the meantime." Since today is Tuesday and we talked last Thursday I took it upon myself to call JH customer service. Apparently they sent a check out last Thursday and a regional manager will be calling me within 48 hours. I won't count on it. One of the ladies asked me why I didn't use their card, because she said I would have had my money within three hours. Not one person apologized or even seems to care the inconveniences this has caused me, or the fact I am taking my business elsewhere. Sick of being shuffled around.

Ridiculous being as this year is my largest return I've ever received by 2000 more than the last 4. I'm disgusted with how I was treated by them and MetaBank for lying and tossing me back and forth between each of them claiming the other was lying about the amount. I went in to file my taxes with Jackson Hewitt on January 26th, 2019. Typically I have a very easy return with only one w2, 3 dependents and school loan information, so I have historically used TurboTax. This year we have a vacation coming up next month and I saw their ad online about filing your taxes with them and getting an advance. I did their pre-qualification and I qualified for a $2,500 advance with 0% interest. I made my appointment and did my taxes with Dave at a Phoenix Walmart location. He did my taxes fairly quickly and efficiently. He issued me an American Express card and explain that once my return was accepted then the banquet would review and approve my advance.

It was only when I went home that I started to read these awful reviews and I got a sick feeling in my stomach. My credit is not great and I was under the impression that this advance had nothing to do with credit but more to do with your return amount. I worried that I had just spent nearly $500 paying someone to file my very simple return just to have to wait for the IRS to issue a check anyway. I was pleasantly surprised to receive an email from the bank and from Jackson Hewitt today January 28th with my official approval and my American Express card was loaded immediately with my advance. It was a two-day turn around even though it was on a weekend that I filed so I have zero to complain about. I only gave four stars because of the cost of filing such a simple return otherwise they would have received 5 stars.

It does not allow you to speak to a real person at Amex Serve when you call to tell them it doesn’t work. And if you call actual American Express they transfer you to a nonworking number. Reporting them to BBB. It’s a scam. Nobody gains access to the funds they tell you are advanced on the card. Thanks for the ripoff! I received an email, on December 24, 2018, stating that I pre-qualified for a refund advance. I've been getting approved for them for the past two years, so I was confident that there wouldn't be any issues. I went to their office, on December 19, 2018. The representative was nice and explained the process. She stated that the only way to receive the loan would be on the Amex card. Therefore I wouldn't be able to have the funds deposited into my account. Fine. She said that I should receive the funds within the hour. Fine. Unbeknownst to me, MetaBank had already denied me while I was sitting in the office. The email, which I didn't check until I got home, had been sent 30 minutes into my appointment. The representative should have known this, right? I was shocked because I've never been denied.

By the first week of January, the phone calls started coming. Jackson Hewitt wanted me to bring my w2s so that my loan could be finalized. On another note, my credit report shows that MetaBank made three soft inquiries on my credit, even though we were told that they didn't do a credit check! Well, I must be a glutton for punishment because I still go into their office on January 25. I received a letter, from MetaBank, dated January 14, 2019, that stated I'd still be approved but the loan application hadn't been finalized? I went to the office and explained that I did everything the representative, in December, told me to do. I presented the letter to the representative and she stated that the last representative possibly messed up the application.

She finalized my return and loan application but wasn't able to show me where my state tax was. It appears that it was never filed. She was in a rush and told me that my loan should be loaded in an hour. Well you know the rest! I was denied again and per MetaBank it was due to the information that I gave them? What does that mean? My information hasn't changed! Now I'm extremely upset! Now I'm ready for an investigation.

One, MetaBank made three soft inquiries on my credit without my permission. Two, Jackson Hewitt has in their records that my last visit was on January 2, 2019. This is completely false. My last visit was on December 19, 2018 and I have documents to prove it. So if it wasn't me in their office on January 2, who was it and why were they in my account without my permission? Three, why wasn't my state taxes completed and why was I given false information about the loan? They deliberately con you into their product without giving you an honest option to decline. I think a class action lawsuit should be filed. I will look into this and keep you posted. Please continue to spread the word. The more people that know, the less business they'll receive. Let's shut them down!

Jackson Hewitt, you should really consider using another bank for your anticipated loan services, because based on all of these reviews, MetaBank screwed all of your customers out of anticipation loans this year. I was a loyal customer for the past 3 years, and never had a problem with my taxes or getting an anticipation loan. But this year after being pre-approved for a $3,500 loan, I was later denied after filing my taxes. The reason given by MetaBank was that they were unable to verify my identity. Even though I'm the same person who has filed with you and them the past 3 years, and they've given me alone every time.

The woman who supposedly verified my identity was clearly sleeping while talking to me, and didn't ask me one single question about myself. She only asked the same questions you ask which is my name and the last four of my social security number. I told this to one of your reps, and to a representative at MetaBank, and everyone assured me everything should still be fine. Not even 10 minutes later I got an email denying my loan. Oh, and the reason given was because MetaBank was unable to verify my identity. I definitely won't be returning next year because I feel that I was tricked out of over $400 and my tax money. I'm a single mother at 3, and every penny counts. I never would have filed with you had I known I was not going to get the anticipation loan. I feel as though this has to be some type of code of ethics violation, and I will be checking further into this issue.

Scheduled an appointment on the night of 1/23/19 when I got a preapproval for $3500+$1000 for being a new client. So of course that's more than enough to pay late rent and catch up on my car note. I thought I scheduled a morning appointment but somehow ended up with an afternoon appointment. I get there right at 10am and the door was locked. They open at 9am ok; I think nothing of it. The preparer was so friendly. I was filing with a 1099. She's inputting my information into the computer, but has to make continuous calls to her manager because she can't find whatever the screen is asking for. Turns out she was putting 1099 info into the W2 screen.

Duh... It's 2 completely different things. Then she clearly states on why she don't understand the reason behind my boss not taking taxes out; another red flag. Now after many phone calls and jokes and laughter she says everything is all done and looking good. We take turns signing the little pad not knowing what I'm signing for and she doesn't explain it. Next she's inputting the AmEx card info into the computer. Two cards wouldn't work. When she finally got the 3rd card to work, she quickly printed a bunch of papers and put them in an envelope.

I asked if I was approved. She said yes you should be getting an email in a few minutes. Now while she was putting papers together minutes went by no email. She then says "they normally have emails out by now, I don't know what's taking so long with yours." She hands me the envelope and says look out for the email and have a great day. I wished her the same and was happy. Two hours went by and still no email. I called back and the manager was there. She said I have to wait for the IRS to accept it and then I would get the email. Now today (1/25/19) my landlord calls. I didn't answer because I still haven't received an email and it's 230pm.

So I give JH a call and my preparer answers all happy as usual. I remind her of who I am and give her my name and ask if I was approved still because I haven't received an e-mail. She says, "Yes! You're approved I just got off the phone with the bank. It took a little longer because with the 1099 they had to call and verify that everything was real. The e-mail should be coming soon." Ok I'm happy. As soon as I hang up with her, not even a minute later, an email comes saying I was denied. At this point I felt my body go cold. I'm about to lose my home and my car.

I get home to look through the papers to see that my refund is only $3539 with 2 dependents. It was originally almost $4200 but then take out the $638 for their fees plus $197 for state taxes. She found credits equaling $8300; what the heck happened? Then tonight I do research and find out that a return could be voided and called one local office who was able to pull it up and told me to call the office that prepared it only for them not to answer the phone. So I called the corporate call center to see how that works only to be told that it's too late because it's been accepted by the IRS.

I stopped my old preparer from submitting my taxes because I needed a bigger advance. Now I'm stuck with a refund that's $4,000 less than what my normal preparer gets me with the same to kids. They should be ashamed of themselves. People don't fall for the numbers with the advance it's not worth it. They're good for making the situations of hard-working people harder than what it is. This was my first and last time ever using them.

Went back to Jackson Hewitt closer to my house (as we hadn’t prepared an actual return the first time). My bad I guess but I hadn’t used them previously. Well the actual return we filed got me a lot more than I thought. Plus I had the APPROVAL for the 950 per the emails. So I thought, yippee. Well turns out there was a return started the first round. Which doesn’t pop up when the actual w2 based return was submitted. I only find this out after I get home and still have no email or money. Hmm.

I check my account. Two returns. Great. Call Jackson Hewitt. Get three different answers. One has to be voided. Which supposedly gets done. Then told manager can override and submit the correct return. Ok great. DENIAL. THREE DAYS IT TOOK JUST TO GET TO THIS POINT. MY REFUND IS ALMOST 4 GRAND. DENIED. WHY? CALL the MetaBank number. Am told I have an offset. Called the IRS. No offset. So now what 500 dollars and a bunch of lies. I was counting on that money. Don’t waste your time.
