I attempted to make a purchase at Best Buy and my card was declined despite having well over the needed amount available. When I called, I was told there was a block on my card, and was transferred to a security department, who verified the amount of the purchase I attempted, my phone number, the last four digits of my SS#, and the last four digits of the bank account from which I made my most recent payment.

Despite providing all of this information, I was told that the card could not be unblocked until I provided a letter from my bank verifying that I had the right to make payments from my bank account because it's different than the account from which previous payments were made. I explained that I'm recently divorced, and had to open a new account for myself because my ex-wife kept our joint account. The representative would not budge on unblocking the account and I had to use my debit card to buy the clothes dryer I was purchasing for my new home, which leaves my budget stretched very thin for the rest of the month. As a result of this, I will not be doing further business with Ally. I understand that policies are in place to protect consumers, but this was extremely overzealous and should have been handled better.

My husband did an auto loan with Ally Bank since 2022 and Dec. 2023 he did skip a payment and his payment would be January 14, 2024. Turns out they are charging him for 2 months the months of Dec. And January and since the truck works through satellite they turned off the truck and we can not turn it on. Even though we made payment already 2 days ago. We tried calling but they only hang up on us. It is very frustrating not getting an answer on why they messed the skip a payment and now we can not even drive the truck and tell us we owe twice as much as we should. Please consider another bank, we are trying to change banks asap. Even customer service is rude and sounds like they're located in another country. BEWARE OF THIS BANK.

I’ve had an Ally credit card for about 6 months. Had 3 payments not go through in during this time due to other expenses, but paid almost immediately after I was notified of each instance. Tried to pay my credit card bill this month and it said I’m unable to use the bank account I’ve been paying out of as it has been disabled in their system. Isn’t the whole point of credit card companies to collect the debt accrued? Why make it more difficult to pay? It doesn’t make sense. They said to either open a new checking account with my bank or pay by money order. I’m not going that far out of my way to make a payment. I closed the card at the end of the conversation with the representative and will no longer have anything to do with Ally after the approximate $500 bill is paid off.

I financed a 2021 VW Atlas through Ally Bank on April 2022. I have never missed a payment up to March 2023. I go to make a payment online. I see no payment due till 2025. I see a credit it of 26000.00. I called them up. They said I owe nothing. At that time I was going through a rough divorce and income decreased from my second job. Well I checked the site, took pictures, no payment due. 8 month later I called them up to reset my password. They told me I owe 8000.00 and must be paid immediately. My credit score dramatically and the cosigner. I pooled together 5000.00 December 30 2023. Now a rep just called me today Jan 5 2024 saying I am facing a charge off or possible reposession. I am going to file a report with the Consumer Affairs Bureau on Ally Financial because this is illegal and unscrupulous.

The worst "customer service" of all time! I took out a small bridge loan for a vehicle. They NEVER sent me anything in writing after 45+ days. I called to get a payment amount and the payoff amount, but they refused to send me by mail or email or any loan documentation. I sent them a payment through my bank (getting the contract number through the dealer) and waited a week. Called again and the recording thanked me for my payment, so all I needed was the payoff. They sent me to collections who told gave me a payoff amount $400 HIGHER than the loan amount. I repeatedly requested a supervisor and for 45 minutes "he was busy" (just another convenient lie).

I was finally sent to customer service. Asked for a payoff amount, which was $400 HIGHER, and they won't send written documentation. I explained AGAIN the recording I get when I call, the next convenient lie was "their system doesn't record payments for 10 days", but the recording does? Bottom line, RUN AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY, these people are scammers or their systems are so broken they can't be trusted. The CEO and/or B of D need to be terminated for not knowing how poorly this company operates.

Our car is a total loss, not at fault, while in the process of settling everything with insurance companies, we received no notice of any balance due to Ally. The main insurance paid the value of the vehicle, but we did not have notice the gap had not paid their portion. We had no indication of a late payment or balance. We assumed everything was closed. I checked my credit score, it dropped tremendously (it was over 800), due to late payment to ally. I called ally and was dis-connected 4 times and then connected to someone who could only say "There is a balance due". I called and talked to the total loss department, "There is a balance due sir, I said how do we settle this, they transferred me to customer service.

The customer service rep after 30 minutes says "I see the car is a total loss but there is a balance due," I said, "How do I settle up, I am very willing to pay the due amount, and can you pull the late payment notice from my credit report?" "Sir you will have to contact the gap insurance company. We cannot do anything about the credit report." Never again, I was actually trying to pay them, we have another loan with Ally that is being refinanced elsewhere as I type. I have also filed a complaint with the BBB. Customer service and assistance is non-existent.

It seems that in the last 2 or so years, that the customer support is negligible, at best. I have been with Ally Bank for over 10 years and the change in services is very apparent. Impossible to get simple answers to simple problems, such as "Why can't I access my account online?" The website states that trust statements and tax forms are not available online and statements will be mailed to accountholder on a monthly basis. I have not received mailed statements since I opened the trust about a year ago. I held on for over 20 minutes and then was told the trust department was "a little busy" and I should call back another time. The Bank does not value my time at all. There have been other ongoing issues in the last few years. I will be moving my account to a more professional banking entity. Suggest people stay clear of Ally Bank.

I have been trying for 2 months to have a check reissued and every time I call, because they will not reach back out with updates, I receive a different story. I was originally told 7-10 days, then when I called back after 2 weeks, “we won’t be sending it”. Call back and there is paperwork that is needed, filled it out and returned as instructed. Speak to one rep and am told they have it but have not processed, the supervisor then completely contradicts the rep and says it hasn’t been received. I know the mail is slow, but 22 days is more than enough time to reach anywhere in the US! Only resolution is to send an internal email. Catch is, they will not contact me once it has been investigated, I just need to guess when a response has been received and call back in to go through the same 20 minutes of inconsistency each call entails. They refuse to give any contact details or connect me with anyone that could possibly help to resolve. Staff is completely unwilling to help in any meaningful way.

I was switched to Ally from Ollo. I was current and up to date with them. When the switch happened I couldn’t get logged in and it wouldn’t let me access my account (before I was late). It was set up with the switch. I did get behind. Ended up getting current in October with $283 payment. It was hell getting them to help me with my log in/online account. It finally worked. Went to use my card in Nov. Couldn’t. Called told I had a forbearance and I had to do three online payments to use my card. I asked Dec, they said yes. Oct, Nov, Dec. Paid on time in December, went to use my card after the 16th (due date). Couldn’t. Called yesterday the 22nd, told well our cycle ends on the 22nd, you’ll be good to use your card on the 23rd (today).

I went to use my card… declined. Called and was then told by the fourth person since Oct, the full correct information. So, it would be Jan when I can finally use my current card (never had a complete hold on an account after making it current). I asked for a supervisor- on hold for almost 15 minutes (she did not come back to say we’re still waiting). Finally came back and said they were still waiting on one. I said I want a note in my file for when I call Tuesday, I want a direct supervisor. The fact there was no forbearance notice, or on my statements, the fact that no one told me the full details means that either they weren’t paying attention or they got different training. Also, there should be a note on my statements or when I sign into my account…besides saying current.

If you're looking for a financial institution that excels at turning your dreams of home ownership into a month-long nightmare, look no further than Ally Bank. My recent experience with this institution has left me seething with frustration and a fervent desire to warn others against the perils of dealing with such a lackluster organization.

First and foremost, if you relish the idea of your deal falling out of contract at the last minute, Ally Bank is the perfect choice for you. Forget about a smooth and timely closing process – they've perfected the art of incompetence. The cherry on top? They don't bother with on-site appraisals, making the entire home buying experience even more unpredictable.

Picture this: You've diligently gone through the motions, and your contract is sailing smoothly until Ally Bank decides to throw a wrench into the gears. They conduct an appraisal that conveniently matches your offer price, only to perform another, out-of-the-blue appraisal that somehow comes in a staggering $60,000 under the agreed-upon amount. And when do they choose to drop this bombshell? Oh, just the day before you were supposed to close.

Attempting to extract any semblance of clarity or honesty from Ally Bank is an exercise in futility. Ask them direct questions about the status of your loan or their procedures, and you'll be treated to an elaborate dance routine as they sidestep every inquiry. Transparency is a foreign concept to them, and they seem to revel in keeping their customers in the dark about crucial matters.

The level of rudeness displayed by Ally Bank's representatives is truly unparalleled. Communication is an art, but the folks at Ally Bank seem to have skipped that lesson. Their inability to convey information in a respectful and coherent manner is baffling. It's as if they've been trained to be deliberately evasive and unhelpful. And let's not forget the demanding nature of Ally Bank's representatives. They'll insist on the weirdest documentation, requiring you to jump through hoops and dedicate copious amounts of time and resources. However, when it comes to reciprocating that effort or providing timely responses to your calls, texts, or emails, expect nothing but radio silence.

In conclusion, unless you have a masochistic desire for a month of headaches, unanswered communication, and the joyous surprise of your deal falling apart at the eleventh hour, steer clear of Ally Bank. There are countless other financial institutions out there that actually value their customers and strive for transparency and professionalism. Ally Bank, unfortunately, is not one of them.

I was shocked to see Ally had an A rating with Better Business Bureau. I had a nightmare experience with them. I told them several times I will be a payment behind due to COVID and other personal factors, so if that was going to be a problem to just come get the car. They said "You have 100 days until the car is due for repossession." So on the 70th day the car broke down on I-90 - the most dangerous part of the highway. The vehicle was at my mechanic's and Ally called me 22 times to get a payment. They asked for $482.. I paid $650.47 and then a week later they went and picked up the car from my mechanics calling him 648 times in the course of two weeks. They never called me once after taking the $650 and they paid the mechanic an obscene amount of money to get the car back THAT WAS NOT EVEN IN REPOSSESSION. Then they had the audacity to try and tack on what they paid the mechanic.

I informed them I will not be paying that amount since they broke Illinois law to retrieve the truck and a number of other laws in the process. They picked up the truck on 11/3/23 and on 11/6/23 I was fired from my job, while the truck was in my possession I had a job, but to make it look better for them a man called to confirm if I was 'unemployed' to make their seizure of the truck justified. I told him "While I was in possession of the truck I was employed." So employed and never buying another vehicle from Ally finance again.

At first I added a checking account from which I paid the balance on the card. 3 weeks ago I added another checking account that was also mine and I paid $1400 balance. 2 days later they blocked my card saying that they think it's suspicious that I added the 2nd account.

After I sent 2 statements with the 2nd account showing that it was an account opened 3 years ago with activity on it and it mine, they unblocked my card. 3 days ago I made a larger transaction on the card 1200$ and they suspended my card again. When I talked to them, they said that they blocked my card because of the 2nd checking account and in order to unblocked I have to go to the bank to obtain an authorization letter signed by the branch manager specifying that I am the owner of the account. I did this and sent the document. Yesterday I woke up that I had closed my card completely with a balance of $1800 on it, which will affect my credit quite badly. I have not had any late payment or get over the credit limit. Stay away from them, it is not worth dealing with them, they can cause you a lot of problems.

December 5th there was no money. I called December 6th and was told it's frozen in the company they use to do transfers and call loss prevention. I called loss prevention today and was told the money was probably put in the wrong account, but then after the rep talked to the supervisor I was told "File a dispute with your bank. We don't have your money," and he hung up. When I called back and asked to be transferred to loss prevention supervisor I was told they would not accept my call. First, they limited the ACH transfers by $150K while in all other banks where I have accounts it's $500K minimum. If you think that you can use wire transfers to get your money fast, think again. I put a wire transfer request on Thursday before 3PM EST, and according to their own ad that you can find on their official website, they should process it on the same day. Nothing has happened on that day and I called them on Saturday just to learn that the transfer was under review in another department and their customer support could do nothing about it.

On Monday I called to the bank again just to hear the same transfer verification story. I requested a manager, but she was just as helpless as anyone else: no details on verifications and no ETA on when it will be completed. Bottom line, stay away if you are looking for a saving account. I did enjoy using Ally Bank, and I switched to Ally from USAA because of the many great features it advertised. However, I switched back to USAA because my Ally debit card was put "on hold" for no apparent reason, without warning, and I haven't been able to get the hold taken off. When this happened, I purchase groceries online for days, so I went in-store. But, I still couldn't use my card; so I called the 24/7 Ally support line from the checkout, was on hold for 40 minutes, and finally gave up on the call. I immediately tried the chat feature, but nobody got back to me even though it said they'd respond within 15 minutes. After an hour at the checkout I left feeling frustrated and embarrassed. It was frustrating not to have access to my money for several days. I began running low on groceries and gas.

I'm not used to my card locking so often with other banks. And if/when it locked with other banks, they would reach out to me by various methods: phone call, email, or text message. I often didn't have the chance to be frustrated by the lock because of their quick and clear communication methods. Also, if the lock was due to online activity, I could still use my card in-store. If I couldn't use my card in-store, I could reach someone within a few minutes of calling from the checkout register and resolve the issue.

To be honest, I did not know my card was on hold until I found the tiny words "card on hold" somewhere non-obvious in my account. At that point, I was in the middle of closing the accounts out of frustration. Perhaps it is still on hold to this day. I don't know. I have had no communication from Ally on the status of my card. This frustration caused me to transfer my money back to USAA, and now I have closed my Ally accounts, unfortunately. When I contacted Ally to close my accounts because of this debit card hold, they still did not tell me why the hold happened.

I know Ally can communicate clearly when the process is in place. For example, I received two emails from Ally on Aug. 2nd regarding a restriction on transferring from my Ally account to my USAA account, one email to announce the restriction and another to announce the removal of the restriction. A similar set of emails, text messages, or a phone call would have helped with the debit card hold. A card lock should warrant at least one email and possibly even stronger communication, given the gravity of the situation.

This experience is not unique to me. I know this is not considered "firm evidence," but I was shocked to find multiple websites of consumers complaining of similar issues. They range from new to long-term Ally Bank customers with as little as a few dollars to $15,000+ in their accounts. Their accounts have suddenly been closed, and cards put on hold with no warning or follow-up communication from Ally, resulting in untold financial problems. It appears that, at most, Ally Bank has been telling people that they are legally allowed to close accounts without notice if they choose. But at what point does such a legal right become a consumer issue? Are they running a racket, or is this normal?

I understand my experience is personal, and the other customer complaints are not "concrete evidence," but it appears like something larger may be going on under the surface, and we, as consumers, can't get to the truth. Please look to see if there is a larger issue and what, if anything, might be under the surface. Your help would be appreciated.

Enact policies prioritizing clear and immediate communication with customers regarding when and why their account/card/money has been blocked or put on hold. Provide a clear resolution and timeframe for resolution. Clear involves easy-to-understand language and multiple methods of conveying a message (i.e., send an email and give a call rather than leave a small note that says "on hold" in fine print in a non-obvious spot in their online account).

    Preferred Resolution

Respect customers' time and concerns by replying to chat messages as promised and by answering the 24/7 phone line promptly. Preferably, like many other banks, create a specific hotline for customers needing immediate assistance so they don't have to wait on hold for an hour or more at a checkout counter). When people trust an institution with their money, clear and timely communication on what is being done with their money is of utmost importance and shows respect for the consumer and their finances.

I deposited a real check into my account that cleared on 10-10-23. On 10-12-23, the check was returned and left me overdrawn by $106.68. I contacted Ally’s customer service by email and I was told the check was returned due to Refer to Maker. On 10-13-23, I received an email saying I was overdrawn and to make a deposit to get my balance to 0. A few hours later on that same day, I received another email from Ally saying that suspicious activity was detected and were restricting access to my account. So I was not able to log into my account or deposit any money into my account. The email about the suspicious activity told me to call their fraud department. I did and Ally asked me some questions and said that they were doing an investigation and that the investigator would get back to me. I said I would be depositing money to get my balance up, but the lady said not to worry about that while the investigation was going on.

I still hadn’t heard from anyone and called again for an update. The woman on the phone said they were doing a high priority investigation into fraud, asked me some questions and said I couldn’t make any more deposits because nothing was going in and nothing was going out, and said the investigator would contact me, who never did. Then a few days later, on October 23, I received an email from Ally saying my account was restricted because it was overdrawn by $39.67 and I had to make a deposit in full or they would report my account to ChexSystems, a consumer reporting agency and engage law enforcement and, if appropriate, file a criminal complaint.

First I was told my account was restricted because of this investigation, and not to worry about being overdrawn and that I couldn’t put any money into it, then I get the above email. I called and left a message for them at the fraud department to call me and let me know what was going on with the investigation and no one called me back. So after getting no answers, I went to the BBB and of course then they finally replied to me. The lady, Jessica, said they closed my account because they didn't get a deposit of $39.67 by October 25th. No one ever told me that I had to make a deposit by then or they would close my account! I couldn't even get into my account to make any deposits between October 13th and October 25th because they wouldn't let me login to my account by computer or into the cell phone app to make a ACH deposit or check deposit due to security reasons while they were investigating!

After all this I was the one being penalized and treated like a criminal when I did nothing wrong and was never told by anyone on the phone or in an email to put money in my account by October 25th or they'd close it! I think that was just a date they made up frankly. But I could care less that they closed my account because I wasn't going to stay with this lousy bank after all that anyway. (While this was going on, I already opened a new account with a better bank). Then she says Ally has award winning customer service. What a joke that is and what a joke this bank is! Don't do business with them, because they don't care about their customers and I was with them for over 10 years and this is how I get treated!

Anywhere from a couple of hours to 48hrs. The last agent I talked to was constantly contradicting her self and kept talking over me when I tried to explain the situation. They also would not give me the extension of the original agent I talked to or transfer me to her. In the end nothing was resolved. So I told them I would just make the scheduled agreed upon payments and wait for the modification in my email or postal service.

I told them to just send the modification both ways as was originally stated by the last agent I talked to. She wanted me to call back after 48hrs if I didn't receive the modification by email. I said, "No, I've already called 3 times in less than 24hrs." Still no answers, just more questions. This is on them now to figure out and get it together. Two days after I opened my account, they locked my account right after I got paid and told me there was "suspicious behavior". The only thing they would tell me is that I logged in too many times (not sure how many is too many on an online only account) and tried to transfer my money. I only opened the account because my new employer pays me using Zelle and my primary bank doesn't work with Zelle. After almost two weeks, they told me (I had to call them) they were closing my account but refused to tell me what I did or why they made that decision. Do NOT bank with Ally unless you're prepared to lose access to any funds there. As you can see with from reviews here, this is normal behavior for this bank and you don't have to do anything suspicious for them to shut down your account.

If you get a car loan from Ally Bank, RUN & request a different lender if through a dealer. Dealers must make hefty commissions from Ally because they seem to be a popular auto loan holder. I don't even believe this company is a real bank. They can not be reached by phone at all. When you call the bank and they find out you're inquiring about your car loan they tell you they can't help you and you have to go to the auto website. By the way, the auto website is different from the main bank website.

If you try to make a payment through the phone option you are re-directed to a 3rd party not affiliated with the bank. This 3rd party charges you a processing fee.

What kind of bank can't take a payment directly. If they were a real bank why would they need to outsource payments. They say their computer system goes down very night from midnight to 3 AM to update to better service you. I am in the Pacific time zone and hit the recording one night so figured OK, I'll still be up at 2AM my time to make my payment. I ended up trying to make the payment 7 hours later, 6 AM my time. Their system was still down with the same recording that they'll be down for 3 hours to better service you. I can't tell you how many times I've called in and gotten this recording and 3 hours after my first call their system is still down. I would assume it might have gone down before my initial call so I figure when 3 hours has passed I should be able to reach them.

I made a complaint directly to the bank. The response was a 2-page letter from someone in their "Executive Customer Relations" who only signed her first name. She then told me to reach her I should call in, hit an option, then hit a 2nd option, then her extension I guess. When you call in to number she provided you get a voicemail that doesn't give you any options to enter an option and goes to a general voicemail. Behind that letter was my entire car loan reminded me that I agreed to all their terms.

Yes, I agreed to their terms and I have no problem with the loan agreement. I was also assuming my loan was going through a real bank that is accessible and cooperative. I knew the bank was an online institution. I have no problem with that. The way they treat customers and the fact that you can't reach a real person & that they have to process a check through an outside 3rd party that obviously is not another bank make me thing, Ally really isn't a bank either.

So you are locked out of all your funds with no solution offered, only being told you have to wait 2 weeks for their fraud department to investigate you. You cannot even get your case escalated to a manager. Obviously they don’t care what happens to you or your money. This could have put me in debt, gotten me evicted, etc, if I wasn’t careful enough to have backup funds in another bank.

Such a horribly reckless thing to do to a customer. When I researched if this has happened to others using Ally, I learned it was a very common experience. I will never recommend Ally Bank to anyone. In fact, I will actively warn my friends and family members to never open an account with them. There is zero reason this should have happened to me, my banking history is entirely clean. I still don’t know why they locked down my account for 3 weeks and then closed it with zero recourse. What a despicable institution. If you don’t think a customer is a good fit, don’t hold thousands of dollars from them and then make that weeks-long decision.

It's now been over 2 weeks and still no credit.

The amount of the phony charges, plus the interest charges (including those of the fraudulent charges) that just posted today (30th) put me over the credit limit and now shows on my credit reports as over-the-limit, even though I made a timely payment 15 days ago. Received a letter in the mail today stating that they are investigating the charges, which happened 4 states away, but of course they missed 2 of the 6 charges on this document. Later I found out this was the scammer spoofing Ally Bank's number. They asked for my credentials and stated I needed to reverse the Zelle and gave me a name which I needed to approve the request - I was confused and again looked at the number against the number on the back of my debit card it matched.

Later that day I called the bank, confirmed it was indeed not Ally who called me and created all new accounts and the Account Take Over team kicked off the investigation (Aug. 23 - Sep. 18th). Cooperated with them providing them with information they requested throughout the investigation, got a new phone #, new email, filed a police report, requested all new credit cards. Cancelled any virtual pay apps (Venmo, Paypal, etc.) and in the end Ally did not return my $2000.00 because I approved the transaction.

Please note that the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau issued guidance on December of 2021 to clarify that fraudulent P2P transactions are considered unauthorized because they were initiated by someone other than the consumer and the consumer received no benefit. We recently fell victim to a scam artist resulting in our withdrawals at multiple ATMs to pay toward said scam. This was traumatic, embarrassing and hurt us financially. We reported this to police and Ally, our bank. We followed all steps and procedures advised by Ally, who stated they would investigate. Two weeks later, we noticed our checking account was closed, with no advanced notice. We called Ally, and were told investigators had “terminated Ally’s relationship with us”. They closed all accounts without notice, on the last week of the month, immediately before mortgage, credit card, loan payments came due. They did not even give 30 days notice to mitigate the damage that would predictably occur to us.

They snail-mailed the checks with the cash from said accounts, thus locking out any rapid access to our only liquid assets when all payments came due, potentially causing long lasting credit damage, financial damage from late credit card payments, missing loan and life insurance payments, not to mention buying food and school supplies as it's also the first week of school for our daughters, while scrambling to get funds into another bank, which involved breaking into retirement savings. If Ally flagged us as suspicious with the national bank ChexSystems, it’s possible we may have issues opening accounts with national banks in the future. We do assume they flagged us as having “suspicious activity”. This despite giving them the contacts, names, incident numbers of the police involved in our case.

In fact, this was a rare case where one of these officers directly witnessed the scam occurring in real time, in person, and who could corroborate we were the victims of the scam, not the perpetrators. Ally was informed of this on not one, but two separate phone calls with their fraud department. Ally’s investigators did not bother to speak to the police, or spend more than two weeks looking into this; they simply summarily closed all our accounts without notice, causing more and longer lasting harm, financial and emotional, than the actual scammer to their previously loyal customers. Apparently this is all legal, and consumers have no recourse other than file a complaint to regulators, which we have done. I understand this is not illegal, but it clearly is a terrible way to treat customers you claim to support and value when they are going through a traumatic event.

We called a third time, requested they investigate further, that we would willingly submit to a thorough review of our records and finances, but never heard more, other than being told all decisions are final. We were informed that investigators are not required to call us directly, or to disclose their reasoning for the account closures. We turn to banks to protect our assets, make sure our funds are readily accessible and stand by their customers. I understand people commit fraud against banks and they need to protect themselves. But this needs to be balanced against supporting customers, and not harming them.

In this case, they could have verified our account of events with one or two phone calls and spoken to the officers on the ground at the time. They could have given us reasonable notice prior to closure. Instead, our own bank has harmed us more than the actual criminal that scammed us. Ally is not, in fact, your ally should the worst happen and you fall victim to a scam.

Why when I add those two checks back into the last account balance do I come up with an amount $200+ less than the original account balance? Just to muddy the waters further, there are numerous transactions that I never authorized where money is taken out, then another amount deposited, then another amount taken out again, and another amount put back in. Is this a Ponzi scheme on Ally's part to withhold money from account holders?

I have multiple times tried to work with them. Decided to refinance. My new bank was appalled of how they handled it. Did you know they will only paper mail a pay off letter so then it delays pay off and they keep adding up in interest. So now pay off higher. My bank called and I warned them about being transferred multiple times. It is shady business. And good luck. I sat on hold for 20 minutes. Then they told me they were not licensed to speak with me in my state. Then another 20 min. I refinanced and they made it soooo hard and were rude to me and my new bank. They are reporting them. They will not work with you.

After 30 minutes on the phone and repeatedly asking to speak to a supervisor, and being told “they will tell you the same thing I am telling you” to try and avoid getting the supervisor on the phone. They were unwilling to reach out to the other bank to allow the funds to clear and remove the hold. Very poor customer service and I will be discontinuing any business with Ally going forward.

I obtained a car loan from Ally Bank for a leased vehicle. After one year, I sold the car to a dealership, who paid Ally Bank an additional $6000 for the car, and I had paid the full year's interest on the lease. However, after the car was sold, Ally Bank sent me a letter stating that I owed them a disposition fee of $500. I contacted their customer service department, but the representative was rude and only repeated that I had to pay the fee. I explained that I did not break the lease, but rather the dealership purchased the car, yet he still insisted that I pay the fee. I have purchased many cars before, and have never been required to pay a disposition fee when the car was sold to a dealership. I request that others avoid obtaining a loan from Ally Bank, as they may also have to face similar difficulties.

PLEASE, don't ignore the negative reviews all over the web, and I highly advise against using them based of the small percentage of folks who say they had a good experience, especially those telling you to ignore the negative reviews. This company is bad energy and it's not worth the risk. They stressed me beyond belief by essentially holding $1#,### dollars of mine (life savings) hostage shortly after opening a new account. Forced me to jump on a call and it took hours of my life away, and they asked me bizarre questions and made me feel like I was be interrogated by police officers. Was hard to reach someone who I felt somewhat comfortable talking with too, as I kept getting a call center in India (no disrespect to those hard working people obviously).

This bank is not your ally. Many other banks who will not cause your blood pressure to boil over. I signed up before reading reviews (big mistake I made). After reading reviews, this practice of freezing your account access is more common than imagined. And the sheer number of complaints of them essentially stealing people's money, are not uncommon. That's scary. Luckily I was able to pull 99.9% of my money back to the original bank via ACH, but not without stress. As soon as my receiving bank saw the money, I get an email from Ally saying my account on their end was closed. I stressed for another week thinking that maybe the ACH would get messed up and the money would bounce back to a now nonexistent account. Thankfully, after one week, it seems to be safely back into my bank.

I check daily now just to make sure (literal PTSD from this experience). All in all, this bank is bad energy all around. Run the other way. They still owe me about $110 (initial deposit), but I'm done with this entity. Hopefully they do me right and send that $110 as a check to my house. If not, I will just walk away and let that sit in the ether forever. I just want to move on from this experience. Ugh. Worst experience in my entire life.

Then their customer service representative did not know how to undo the transaction. Then a supervisor could not FIND the transaction. Then he found it but couldn't do anything about it.

Four hours later, 6 or 7 phones call, talked to 5 people from Ally, only to be told there is nothing they can do about it except they will return the money to my account in several days. They said it "should' be done in 6 days but no guarantee. Unbelievable. They have my money for days and I do not have it back yet and I have no access to it in the meantime. Ally treated me rudely throughout this problem, and had the nerve to tell me they did nothing wrong and it was my fault. Ally used to be good. Not anymore. They have decent CD rates but their employees are rude and inefficient. Ally takes no responsibility and profits off of other peoples' money unethically.

Updated on 09/08/2023: Ally Bank has restricted over $3100 of my funds, and is holding over $3000 more in provisional credits, from funds stolen in identity theft, that I documented thoroughly. Ally advised me 10 days ago that it was being investigated by fraud prevention. I feel like they are treating me as if I did something wrong. I am in despair. When I reported the transactions as fraudulent, Ally instructed me to reach out to and work with the company that the identity thief sent money to.

I have had an old account with the company named in the dispute, which was a miniscule amount on deposit - literally about 50 cents. It was connected to a completely different bank account that had no transfers to it since November of 2022. The identity thief had access to almost everything I had financially, it's been devastating. Targeting mainly existing accounts we did have. I closed accounts, changed passwords, did all that was asked of me. I reached out to company involved and requested they work with Ally. That company refunded two amounts, and as a result Ally implied I was trying to receive double reimbursement. I did no such thing, I promptly replied that I was happy to reverse the provisional credits - which have indeed been reversed back as a credit to Ally.

Despite this reversal in Ally's favor my new account, (that was opened to ensure I wouldn't be inconvenienced during the investigation) has a positive balance of $3000+ that is unrelated to Ally. It is now also restricted, I cannot even see a statement as my online balance is blocked -they claim for up to 90 days! I filed a complaint with the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau CFPB against Ally bank. The CFPB site allows up to 90 days to complete the complaint.

We will not make it. We risk eviction and car repossession, our accounts are a negative mess, my credit has slipped to the 400's - my identity was stolen, and now Ally is compounding the suffering. I cannot get away from this bank fast enough. No locations to visit, no human being to sit face to face with. I sent police reports, FBI reports, documentation, copies of letters to the merchant that was involved in the unauthorized transactions, I answered questions, cooperated and they treat me deplorably. I will close my account the instant this is all resolved and warn everyone I know. Ally Bank is a nightmare.

Original: I have an account with Ally, that was drained by an identity thief. Based on the number of complaints I have found online, I see this is nothing new. I knew this thief, I worked with her and had authorized a charge for up to $100. She had all of my information, as well as my husband's. We do not understand how she accomplished this. She successfully removed $5100. Because I had an existing relationship with Coinbase, which was where she illegally sent the money, as well as a working relationship with her, Ally denied my dispute claims. I filed police reports, FBI reports - the total amount stolen was over $13,000 USD combined with other accounts she had accessed. We were devastated by this.

Ally made this decision within 6 days, refusing to permit an appeal, even with my offer of a sworn affidavit to the fact that I did not authorize more than $100 on up to 2 charges, combined. I did this via ACH, which she never even used. Ally’s position is that existing relationship means denial. Period. This is theft. It is a felony theft, and I filed charges. I sent proof this woman was in Federal custody, and sent the full sheriff's department report, as well as a full report with evidence to the FBI via IC3.

I have spoken with an attorney who suggested we sue for $50,000 or more in light of further duress and damages. I’ll have to save up to afford his retainer, and I’m crushed by this. They refused to advocate on my behalf despite all of this evidence of multiple crimes. I’m angry, and it appears that Ally is saying if any of us have a relationship with a company that has regular deductions, it will NOT protect us from exorbitant withdrawals to that same company that deviate from our spending patterns; because of that previous “relationship” and our prior “approval” for normal expenses.

If we are victims of theft, or identity theft, we are screwed. DENIED - and no appeal, no provisional credit, no call to the Sheriff’s department, or the FBI agent listed, no real investigation. Just - “Too bad, we do not care, and we will not be your Ally despite this being an infinitesimal amount to our billion dollar company.” This person stole our rent, they stole our ability to eat, they stole our identities and Ally is in this case my adversary.

In addition, as I only have 24 months left on the vehicle, I figured I might pay it off. Why is the payoff balance more than if I simply make the remaining 24 payments!!! Is that even legal??? My husband and I have been with Ally Bank for several years and have a Checking and Savings Account with them. Ally Bank's online website has a disclosure that if Wire Transfers are submitted and reviewed by 3pm ET, then the transfer will be completed and confirmed by 6pm ET. We submitted a wire transfer at 1:30pm ET, and received a confirmation of email of this request. To be safe, we called Ally Bank at 2pm ET and a representative confirmed the funds would be transferred by the time disclosure commitment of 6pm listed on their website. We were informed by the entity we were transferring funds to that funds were not received yet by 5:30pm, thus we called Ally and they assured us these funds would be sent by 6pm.

By 6pm the funds were still not transferred and we called Ally Bank again; by now this is the third time having to call Ally for a single wire transfer. We spoke to an Ally Bank supervisor named Jade G. and they informed us they would not be able to complete the transfer that day because they got too busy. We believe it is not good business to list a disclosure online committing to a 6pm completion of wire transfers if this cannot always be done. Furthermore we were disappointed that the representative we spoke to on the phone at both 2pm and 5:30pm falsely promised this transfer would happen by end of time. We are extremely disappointed in both the lies and poor customer service by Ally Bank.

This wire transfer was needed for us to close on our first home and thus we have had significant issues and legal trouble because Ally did not hold up the both the disclosure they listed online or the promises made by their employees. If anyone needs to wire transfer money through Ally we do not recommend and wish that Ally had more clear expectations to customers both online and with their representatives on the phone. If we had known this we may have tried to transfer the funds the day before, but due to false promise from Ally (both online and verbally with multiple representatives) we are experiencing a lot of hardship and legal difficulties with our home purchase.

My boyfriend got his car reposed in December of last year. When he was able to get his car back he called Ally Financial multiple times to confirm if the car was still available before sending any payments. January 11, 2023 he was told at 12pm the car was available and to make the payment, but after he made the payment and called back around 4pm. They told him the car had already been sold and he would get a refund for his money. January 18th he called and was told a refund check was on the way and to give it 7-10 business days. As nothing came he called again on March 1st and was told the check would be voided and a new one would be sent but this time for only half of the amount as the other half was used to cover “fees”. When he asked about these fees they said they couldn’t answer and he would have to call a separate department.

Again we were told it would take 7-10 business day and this time we updated the address thinking this could have been the issue. On April 27th we called again as the check had still not arrived and were told once again they would void the old check and send a new one, this time they were able to provide us with a reference number. The next day on April 28 we called to confirm if the check was actually sent and we’re told it was and to wait 7-10 business days. On May 16th we called once more as the check had not arrived to the address we had updated back in January. This time a nice customer service lady told us she would request it be sent through FedEx, she reconfirmed the mailing address with us and gave us a reference number. She informed us that if the FedEx shipment was approved it would take 1-2 business days to receive.

We called again May 18th and received the confirmation that the FedEx shipment had been approved but were told to wait 7-10 business days to receive. On June 23rd my boyfriend called Ally again as he had received a FedEx notification saying the delivery had been canceled and requested to be sent back to sender. Upon calling they informed him that they requested the check back due to incorrect address. When he asked what address they had mailed it to it turned out to be the correct address that we had updated and confirmed multiple times since January. The customer service rep informed him that a new check would be sent and provided another reference number. Finally yesterday July 3rd, after waiting over 6 months, we received the FedEx delivery.

This entire process has been a horror! The original number given to us to make the claim led to the same 2 rude managers that avoided our calls multiple times and pretended they couldn’t hear us over the phone so they could hang up. Eventually I found the general customer service number and we were able to speak to different managers.

I don’t understand how a company is so quick to repo someone’s car during unemployment and difficult times yet fails to provide proper information to customers and refuses to provide refunds at proper times. For anyone considering this company I suggest further research as it wasn’t till this incident that we discovered we were not the first or only ones they have done this to.

Last month I did a large transfer from Ally to Chase, I'd done this before so expected no issue. But this time, the transfer didn't make it to Chase. Initially, Ally kept telling me to contact Chase, but eventually a manager at Chase explained the process and it was clear, Ally was responsible. Called Ally back and they admitted they have to locate the money. After about a week, no response so I called Ally back. After passing their phone verification, I was told (on the phone) that my account would be locked until an investigation was complete.

There's no reason to lock my account, I suspect this was to prevent me looking to see what's going on. I've now been locked out of my account for over 2 weeks, I call them every other day, talk to their reps for almost an hour every time and always get told there's nothing they can do until the "Investigation" is complete. So here's the summary. Ally lost the transfer about 25 days ago and I've been locked out of my account for 2 weeks now. No one has any answers, no one attempts to figure out what's going on. Ally had never reached out to me. I really don't know where else to turn. Is a bank really allowed to lose your money like this? If anyone has any ideas on what to do here, I’d really appreciate it.

In Jan of 2023 I got a job and started calling my creditors to get everything corrected. I have another auto loan through capital one. I called capital one and explained my situation, we made an agreement and my payments were back on track. I made 2 payments to Ally in January which should have got me caught up besides 150 dollars. I then every month since the double payment in Jan I have paid 500 or more trying to catch up. For the past 5 months they have considered me a late payment on my credit score, severely harming my, and my wife's credit.

When I got my new job I got paid biweekly instead of weekly. I called them and asked them if I could switch my due date several times and they refused. They said I couldn't switch my due date till I was caught up. Remember this is less than 200 dollars. So every month for the past 4/5 months my payment was due by the 15th and I would pay them 500+ on the 21st, more than my payment. Every month they would throw a late payment fee of 90 dollars on my account setting me further back every month even though I was making more than my vehicle payment. After politely asking them 4 times to switch my payment so I could get caught up I was mad. I called them and told them it was ** that I was trying to do the right thing and they wouldn't work with me.

I explained they are ruing my credit and I'm doing the right thing. I asked what I needed to do to correct this and they said, "You need to pay off all the past due and we can consider you current and you can switch your due date." I paid them the 489, plus the 147 dollars I owed that was past due on may 17th. I asked, "So this is current now," they said yes. My wife switched the payment date so it was doable. Thinking this was all over. I looked at my credit report and what do you know, as of May 23 they are still saying we're are behind putting a bad mark on my credit, and not only that they added another 90 late fee even though the payment was on time and a deal was made. I will never do business with Ally again. I am pissed and this company is a bunch of thieves. I am going to switch my auto loan to someone else and will tell everyone I come across to not use Ally. Ally kept pushing me back and forth for >10days and >15 phone calls, during which I heard many different narratives (aka lies) from the operators about why it was taking so long to increase the cash advance limit. Eventually I gave up and decided to move all my finances to a more reliable institution.

I had an auto loan with Ally. I called and asked for a payoff and was given the amount. I was told that if I sent a cashiers check, it would be processed in 4 days. I obtained a cashiers check from my bank for $15, 000. I sent the check overnight to the address the Customer Service Rep gave me. I checked the tracking and it was delivered the next day. I called Ally to make sure they got the check and was advised that no one works at that address and a courier picks the checks up and brings them to a different address. That was the first problem. Two days later the courier picked up the check. On the fourth day I called to see if the check cleared and was advised that it wasn’t 4 days since they received the check. It was four days since I sent the check, but it was only two since they picked it up. I was told that it would be 7-10 days to get my title after they processed my check. I thought that was unacceptable.

6 days later they processed my check. I called, again, to ask if I could have my title overnighted to me. The CSR told me that after the check was processed, there was another 4 day waiting period and then 7-10 days to get my title. I asked to speak to a manager. I spoke to the manager and he told me the same thing. I asked to speak to someone in accounting and he told me that all the other departments aren’t manned and that he would send an email and call me back. I waited a day and no one called. I called back and spoke to a CSR and asked for a manager. I told the manager someone was supposed to call me and no one ever did. This manager told me he would send an email to his manager. I told this manager I would like to speak to someone out of the call center and I was advised that no one out of the call center will speak to people on the phone.

It has been over a week and I still don’t have my title. The same day I paid off my car, I paid my wife’s brand new Nissan off. I paid it off online and, the next morning, the account was closed out and we had the title in 2 days. Ally bank is horrible. I bought my vehicle from Ford and that is the bank they used for my loan. I wouldn’t recommend Ally bank to anyone. It is unacceptable to wait a total of 18 days to get a title after you pay a loan off. Especially paying with a cashier's check. A cashier's can be verified in about 5 minutes. I should have read read the reviews right after I received the loan.

If I could choose a negative rating I would! I invested in CD accounts with Ally because they are a large bank with really good rates. On March 15 I closed a 6 figure CD and asked for the funds to be dispersed in two other CDs and gave the amounts for each. Ally created two CD accounts but never funded them. After many phone calls, case numbers and the run around they funded only one account with all of the money. Clearly not what I asked for. I made more phone calls, spoke to several supervisors who assured me they would rectify it, more case numbers and more supervisors but no resolution.

Fast forward and what Ally did was cancel the CD which had the total amount and create a checking account to deposit the funds into. They then said they would create two new CDs and fund those properly. After more supervisors. Case numbers and their famous line of “waiting for approval from the back office, check back in 2 days” the 2 accounts were properly funded. But wait… they penalized me over $800 for closing the CD early that THEY created and funded incorrectly! So now more Case Numbers, more supervisors, more back office excuses and I am told they acknowledge the error on their part and will refund the funds. This was on 3/31. So guess what… you guessed it several more calls, more supervisors, more case numbers and more blaming the back office and as of today 4/16 I still have not received the funds that Ally in essence STOLE from me.

I was told today they there are no supervisors available and “the back office is waiting on approval, call back Tuesday” They then had the nerve if they could help me with any more backing needs!!! I laughed out loud. Once my CDs have matured I will NEVER bank with Ally again. I would rather have a lower percentage yield on my money than have to deal with the incompetence I have dealt with in the last month.

The person said nothing about returning any paperwork. I then received a payment statement that I owed 2 payments. I then called again in January and had the issue fixed, so I thought. I paid the amount they required and they gave me another deferred payment plan. I sent the mail required back to them.

Now in March, I received another statement asking for 3 payments so I called once again. They said they didn't receive the mail I had sent. They also filled missing payments on my credit, causing it to fall from 705 to 605. Destroying my good credit! Every time I called, I paid exactly what they asked for. I explained that I paid for the postage and mailed the letter to them. I also asked them to fix my credit do to it being their mistake or lack of mail being delivered. I once again paid exactly what they asked for. They said I was up to date on my loan.

Today (4/3/23) I get on their website to pay and they added a late charge even though my due date is 4/6/23. They proceeded to say that was back pay for being late even though I paid everything I was asked to pay while still on the phone with them. So once again I paid what they asked. I feel they are adding additional charges for reasons they can't explain. After 3 years of making my payment on time, this is what I get!

The Fraud Alert was received on the 30th transaction. I have NEVER used the debit card on this account. The debit card has NEVER been out of my possession. The hacker had to have the 16-digit card number, exp date, and CVV/PIN code to use this card. The hacker managed to get 29 charges totaling over $4,300 APPROVED by Ally Bank before I was ever notified of suspicious activity.

The text message states “A fraud specialist will call you now.” NO phone call was received from Ally Bank. I have made several phone calls to customer support and the Fraud Hotline. Ally will only give me a Dispute Number and standard response that it will take up to 10 days to receive any response. Requesting to speak to a supervisor gets a response that a supervisor will respond to me within 48 business hours.

These are not only suspicious but clearly fraudulent transactions and Ally acts like it’s standard operating procedure and not even taking it seriously. There is obviously a debit card data breach/compromise occurring. Ally Bank needs to take action on implementing better security measures. It appears to be a repeat of the August 2022 debit card data breach.

I do not feel like this bank was ever my Ally. They would promise to do things and then not do them, or they’d promise not to do something and then do exactly that. And they’d backtrack on these assurances/promises without notifying me. I’d be waiting and after nothing happening by the time they said it would happen, have to waste time calling in to find out they changed their mind. They couldn’t even treat me with the basic level of respect and professionalism. For almost two years, I tried to get them to change my name in their systems to my correct name, which they kept messing up repeatedly. Numerous times, I provided them with identification documents to prove what my correct name is and dozens of times I was promise they had fixed my name in their systems, but almost two years later, they still don’t have the correct name.

Let me give you an example from the last month that perfectly encapsulates my experiences with Ally for years: On January 26th, I received an e-mail saying my 1099-Int was ready. I spent about 20 minutes trying to find it on their website, but couldn’t find it anywhere. I then wasted about 2 hours on the phone because it wasn’t where they said it should be in on their website. Eventually, a guy told me the 1099s wouldn’t be ready until Feb 1. That begs the question: why did they send me an e-mail on Jan 26th saying it was ready if it wouldn’t be ready until Feb 1.

On Feb 1 it also wasn’t where they said it would be, leading to more wasted hours on the phone. Then they agreed to send me it via a secured e-mail message. Several days later they did, only the name was wrong. I called them and was told they would fix it and send me an updated one. Several weeks, several secured e-mail messages that didn’t work, and many wasted hours on the phone, I was told they were going to send me the corrected 1099 via normal e-mail later that day.

Nothing came that day. Nothing came the next day. So two days later I called in. After spending about half an hour on the phone, I was informed they wouldn’t be correcting the form. They said since they never had the name right in 2022, they weren’t going to change it on the form for 2022. Since they repeatedly made mistakes in 2022, they decided they weren’t going to fix the problem now in 2023. To get to this decision, they wasted almost a full, 24-hour day’s worth of time. Does that sound like an institution that is my ally?

Upon calling, my new account was inexplicably blocked, and the representative I spoke with told me that I could not make any changes to the account at that time. She ensured me I won't be charged any fees later for any changes since I just opened an account. She also reassured me that the block would be lifted in a few days. However, the transfer proceeded anyway and now I have to pay a $2000 fee for making changes to my CD.

When I tried to contact the customer service line several times, I was forced to wait on hold for extended periods every time, and it took several attempts before I received confirmation that the transaction would be reversed with no fees because of their system fault. Unfortunately, it's now been three weeks, and the issue is still not resolved. The entire experience has left me feeling frustrated and disappointed, and I am now hesitant to continue using Ally Bank's services. I would not recommend this bank to anyone based on my experience.

Next, they again claimed it was approved to be sent and next it was not approved to be sent. Next they claimed it was in a queue to be sent and it was approved but would not state when it would be sent. They claimed that sending the funds via ACH depended on when the queue it was in would be processed. Good luck. If it was possible for me to give Allied Financial a half star, I would! I made the big mistake of signing for a car for my daughter and financing it through Ally Auto. Because my daughter has been going through financial hardships I've been making her car payment for almost three years, and I've NEVER been late. For the month of December I explained to my daughter that it was her responsibility to make her car payments not me, but since I'm the primary name on the contract, failure to make her payments on time can be harmful to my credit score. The payment is $394.00 a month, due every 5th of the month. My daughter only paid $300.00 and I told her I'd pay the balance. Due to my busy work schedule I paid the balance on 8 January, but by then Ally Auto had hit my credit score for 59 points for being 30 days late!

I've been making payments on time for three years, and they ruin my credit score for being 3 days late with the remaining balance of $94.00! I'm the store manager of a major jewelry retail business and I've NEVER experienced this form of treatment. So I looked into Allied Financial's business practice and discovered that they have been sued for discriminatory practices against Blacks and other minorities! When I contacted them asking that they correct what I considered to be an oversight, they refused.

I'm posting on every social media site, every consumer complaining site, every retail review site I can find, asking ALL consumers (especially Blacks and minorities), to NOT do any business with Allied Financial. I looking into refinancing my daughter's car through my own financial institution. I'm done! When you pay on time it takes them FOREVER to report it to the credit bureau so that your score go up! But if you are late, or miss a payment, they tear down your score immediately!

I am a long time customer of Ally Bank and as of two weeks I closed out all my accounts in Ally Bank. Their customer service is non existent. You can't get a live person and when you finally get someone to call you back they disconnect you. Tried using the chat or email service and even though they say someone will get back to you in 24 hours you are lucky if someone gets back to you in 5 days. When you do finally get to talk to someone the information they give you is incorrect. I am now waiting over 3 weeks for a final distribution from the last IRA I had there. The account shows closed over 2 weeks ago and still no check.

I called today and guess what. There is a 58 minute wait to talk to someone. I requested a call back rather than wait and I am still waiting over an hour now. Stay clear from this bank. Even with their good interest rates it will not be worth it. There are other online banks and credit unions you can get an even better rate with much better customer service.

Initially heard of this company when we got approved for a car loan through them around 2 years ago. Since then, they've sent us numerous promotional emails offering bonuses for opening bank accounts. To receive the promotional offer, we had to set up the account to receive a qualifying direct deposit within 60 days. The same week we opened the account, my fiance set up the direct deposit. When the next pay came via check instead of direct deposit to the account, my fiance went back to ensure all the information for the direct deposit was correct and there were no errors. After verifying that everything was correct, he spent the next few weeks trying to troubleshoot with his employer as the direct deposit continued to have issues.

Finally, after re-submitting his information multiple times and exhausting every possible idea with his employer, we called Ally again to resolve the issue. Ally confirmed that his information was correct when going through the direct deposit. When a payment finally went through to the account, Ally would not honor the promotion because it was after the 60 day period, despite plenty of documents proving that we had tried everything possible with dates ranging from the first week the account was opened through the entire 60 day period. Though the cause of the issue was never determined, Ally admitted they failed to escalate the case on multiple occasions, and after proof documents were submitted. Despite all of this, they still refuse to take accountability or action.

We would not have opened the account without the promotional offer and they do not honor what they advertise. After so much effort to resolve the issue on our end by calling Ally's customer support line on multiple occasions and working with his employer and with a plethora of documents proving such, this became about principle rather than the bonus. And when they still refused to honor the promotion, we decided to move our funds elsewhere.

They showed no accountability and told the BBB they could not share any information due to privacy concerns, despite us being the only 2 parties involved. It is clear the company is more concerned about their disingenuous and unethical business practices being exposed than trying to mend the situation. I would highly encourage anyone considering opening an account here to look elsewhere.

Ally may be good for personal banking, but terrible for auto loans. I got their app and made my payment. It rejected my payment. I called and had to jump through hoops to speak with a ally customer service representative. I tried to pay earlier than due date to not face any charges or issues. They told me it was an issue on my bank's end. I called my bank, had a nice long informative conversations. They said it was definitely on Ally and explained why. I called Ally back and told them what the bank said. Well just so convenient they denied it, blamed my bank and said I could pay on their telephone line which charges a fee. They did waive late charges after I became very animate I was not paying the late fees and emailed them all 4 rejected attempts to pay. I asked the representative 3 times to set my account up for automatic payment to come out on the 15th day of every month. Well that didn’t happen.

I went on the app and seen that my payment was going to be late. Well I called them. They said go on the app everything is fixed. Nope it wasn’t. I’m going through the same hassle as previously stated. Then when I call their 1-800 number during business hours I get disconnected. I’m about to refinance my vehicle loan with another company. This is absolutely ridiculous and frustrating. I’m not going to be forced to pay tons of overage fees due to your company’s ignorance. Your response message trying to justify your poor actions is unnecessary and unneeded. Fix the issue with your app and phone line. I keep trying to make my payment. They blamed me and then insulted me by asking if I had the money to make my payment. Set up my automatic payment or make it so I can. Do better for your customers. Take customer complaints as valid and fix the issue. You are going to lose customers.

Ally Auto does not care about customers affected by Hurricane Ian!! I never comment on a company like this, but I’m absolutely outraged with this company…I was affected by Hurricane Ian and contacted them to let them know I needed to have a one-month extension…Just ONE month!! I was told that everything would be fine and there was no problem. (My account is always in good standing.)

One week later I started receiving texts that I was late with my payment. I continuously called every number listed for Ally Auto and would go through all the steps to reach someone but as soon as I went through all the steps it would beep then hang up on me. Finally reach someone and then they said they had to put me on hold for a moment then…THEY HUNG UP AGAIN! Seriously called over 20 time within a week. (Have screenshots for proof.) Then they called me since they said I had not paid my payment. The lady says they never made a note that my payment had been moved!! By this time, I already scheduled my next payment because again I only needed one month, and she told me that payment would be for the month I missed so I would still be behind and needed to pay more!! If not, I would continue to be behind which I NEVER have been before!

I spent an hour on the phone with her while she was trying to work out how to fix the issue since a HURRICANE and a bad employee is not something that is my fault, and I cannot spend extra money during the holidays on a car payment! Why is it so hard to move a good customer’s payment to the end of their term? She could not get her supervisor so she promised me that they would call me back by the end of the day. I was very kind and the lady kept apologizing for the issue which obviously not her fault. I told her this has been beyond stressful so I was worried that I would still not get a call.

She promised over and over that they care, they would work to move the payment, and I would receive a call back for sure...I did not get any call from anyone from Ally! I cannot believe that a company could literally lie to someone like this. It's absolutely disgusting and I would have never gone through ALLY if I had known…I still cannot get through…Shocking I know. BE WARNED THEY LIE AND DO NOT CARE!

The third time I’ve contacted them this week: I’ve paid the October payment already. Your website never accepts any of my debit cards so I have to call to make a payment. I called yesterday to fix this issue because I’m getting late payment reminders twice a day and I’ve already paid. This has become a nuisance for me when I’ve made my payment. The late charges are supposed to be dropped (or so I’m told, you record your calls so feel free to listen to that being confirmed by your employee) because your website doesn’t take the same card that suddenly works over a phone call payment.

I do not plan to use Ally in any future loans after this experience. This has been very inconvenient to wait on hold to make a payment that should easily be paid through your online service. I'm getting hit with $35 charges left and right due to the online payments not processing as they should. I do not have time to be on hold while I’m at work just to make a payment!

For the record, even though they admit it being a fault of theirs and promising to take the late payments off, they don’t. In fact they add more than the late fee but don’t put details on what the (in my case) $93 charge is or the $130 charge is that is on top of my monthly payment. Company sneaks extra fees in with no details on it. I’ve emailed them and called them regarding this discrepancy. Nothing has changed. Want less complications? Choose a different lender!

I have been with Ally Bank for 1 1/2 years. I switched from the BIG THREE because of the interest rates Ally offers and the fact I don't usually have to go to a branch for my banking. I have noticed several things that just aren't worth the interest. Their App has constant login issues and their hold times can be up to two hours. I needed a Cashier's Check and was told I just needed to call in and they could overnight whatever I need because they were online only. When I was ready to do this I was on hold 1:45 before a CSR answered the phone. It took another 45 minutes to process the Cashier's Check which I informed them I needed to be sent overnight.

Once they processed they told me I was 11 minutes over the cutoff time to go out that day and they would send it out the next day 2-3 day delivery. I was more than upset as I needed the funds for an emergency situation. My call was escalated and I was on hold another 10 minutes and was told that it was no fault of the banks so too bad. The escalation rep then reached out to the Wire and Checks Dept and was told sorry. They did apologize for the long hold times but they made zero effort to assist with my dilemma which would not have been an issue had they answered the phone in less than two hours and were up front about their "overnight" delivery option.

If you don't ever need anything quickly that should take 5 minutes at a branch location don't use this bank. They do not go the extra mile to take care of you and do not care if you take your business elsewhere. I will be opening an account this week at a local bank who cares about their customers' needs and has both online and branch access.

Updated on 09/24/2022: This is an update from an earlier post about Ally Bank shutting my checking and savings account without warning or explanation. I had reported them to BBB and they actually responded to my review. They sent me attachments of letters they sent me. Ones I never got. The only one I received was the one saying account closed, check section 35 for reason. Reason was no reason. They can close your account for any reason at any time. The letter they probably made up said there was possibly fraud and to protect myself and them. Thank you Ally for looking out for me! Oh and thanks for leaving me scrambling to open a new account and deal with direct deposits and auto debits.

As for fraud activity on my account, maybe they meant the Zelle transfer of a whole $20 to my fiancé. I know the letter attachment they sent to me about advance notice of closure was probably fabricated cause I reported them. Ally normally communicates by email. They tell you to go to your account and read mail. Never happened. All I got was letter saying my account was closed. Will update if anything else happens. I plan on reporting them to several more places.

Original: I've had account with Ally Bank for 10 years. A purchase was declined so I went online to check my account. A bold Closed notice was placed on my account and withdrawal of my funds taken. I called customer service. I was told a check for my balance and letter of explanation is being mailed to me.

I did receive check and letter of explanation.

Letter of "explanation" was to check item 35 on terms of Ally. Item 35 means Ally can cancel your accounts without notice and for any reason. They won't give you a reason. This has obviously caused a financial hardship for me. I have a direct deposit from Social Security every month. Now that my acct is closed, I have to wait to get new direct deposit set up. I have auto debits, not to mention regular bills to be paid. I opened an account at another bank. A much more successful one in fact. I would never recommend this bank to anyone. I was one of their biggest fans initially. Not anymore. Now, Ally makes you wait on hold for 30 to 40 minutes, only to get no answers. When I first opened account, all reps were so friendly and answered phone within a minute. Not anymore. Do some research before you choose this bank!

Been with them for years. I was trying to open up a second savings account. I had significant funds in the first one. They quite literally made it IMPOSSIBLE. I tried calling, chatting, and emailing. When, after almost an hour on hold, I was instructed to send some documents to them via a specific email address. I did, and two days later I got a letter saying that my husband was NOT APPROVED for the joint account we wanted to open. I will not tolerate this lack of attention to detail. I closed out my first account as well. There are entities paying MORE, who provide the appropriate levels of customer service.

I have been an Ally customer since 2018, when I opened a basic savings account. Since then, I had opened a checking account, a money market account, a Roth IRA savings account, a traditional IRA savings account, and a custodial account for my disabled daughter. I also helped my husband open a Roth IRA savings account and a traditional IRA savings account with them. Since then, my husband has retired and now he has a terminal illness. All we were trying to do is to do a direct rollover from his 401(K) from his last employer into his traditional IRA at Ally.

We were contacted by the IRA department, and they wanted to verify that he is who he is. The issue here is, while he knows who he is, for over 15 years now, he has delegated all the personal finance issues to me unless I need his signature, which he does after I explain to him what it is for. This has never been a problem until this week. Because of his illness, he has been on some strong pain medications which have made his thinking a bit cloudy.

The IRA rep on the phone did not sound like the nicest person as is, and she acted like she did not want to be bothered helping us. She was barking out a long line of questions at him like some kind of third degree and as expected from a retiree that is ill and on pain meds, he tripped over some of the questions. She then remarks that she cannot help to do the transfer since she could not verify who he is, which is baloney since he managed to answer a lot of them fine, but his memory got confused over specific dates of cars he used to own is all. She also claims she sent a code to his cell phone but it never arrived and the problem is not his phone, because I tested it by sending him a text on my phone and it went through fine.

If it was confusion over the rollover and they simply paused the rollover until a higher-up could contact us next week, fine. However, in their genius idea of "protection," they decided to block and freeze ALL of our accounts until this is (hopefully) cleared next week. I have seen reviews about fraud, but they have now gone too extreme the other way. My husband is sick, my daughter is disabled, and I am trying to care for them both only to deal with this garbage service as though we are criminals. All we wanted to do is transfer his 401(K) to his traditional IRA, and now not even my disabled daughter can access her money in her custodial account with these incompetent clowns.

Nothing says overkill like letting the guard dog attack the residents and guests that you invited, Ally! Ally is no ally these days. What good is a high interest rate if they won't let you access your own money? Social security makes direct deposits there, rent is due around the corner, and they are in overkill on what should have been a mundane transaction. We no longer feel safe or happy having any money at Ally. We saved a lot only to have these crooks hold our money hostage, for what?

Have had Ally for about 4 years and use it as my main account for direct deposit and paying bills. Everything was great; the ease of use, ATM fee reimbursement, Zelle access, higher interest rates, etc. But, this year I have had fraudulent activity on my debit card, two of which were in the last 3 weeks. A quick google or twitter search show I’m not alone; there are thousands of Ally customers currently experiencing the same problem. It’s so bad getting through to Ally on the phone (which is required to report) is nearly impossible; took me two days of calling multiple times to finally get help for the incident a few weeks ago. Quickly received a new debit card & hoped that would be the end of it but, it’s not-another fraudulent charge was attempted yesterday on the brand new card.

Luckily, I “locked” the card immediately after activating it because all of the reported issues, so the charge was declined. I received no notification this happened - only by manually checking my debit card transaction activity did I see the attempt; my settings have always been to notify me via text & app notification of all transactions, including declined. I’m confident the recent massive influx of fraud targeting Ally customers is a result of an internal hack or compromised security of their system; I literally have had my new debit card for only a couple weeks & not even used it once, so seems nearly impossible to be compromised on my end.

The whole thing is very concerning, but absolute worst part of all is Ally refuses to acknowledge the obvious major problem (see tweet replies to people reporting the problem, they generally respond with something like “Sorry this happened, lots of banks across the country are experiencing a higher number of fraudulent activity” basically saying “No big deal, nothing wrong here”…).

They also have not made any effort to communicate or notify their customers regarding the issue, even though it’s overwhelmingly clear Ally accounts are specifically compromised.
This, coupled with the inability to get through on the phone, has resulted in losing my confidence & trust in Ally. Until a few weeks ago, I was a very satisfied account holder and expected to be with their bank longterm, but that has all changed and I will be closing my account.

Every time you get an individual that don't speak English and you have to keep repeating the same issue over and over again. That's not my issue, I have been paying my vehicle payment the same way for a year now, never had an issue, and this month, sent 4 money orders totaling my payment. I called on Friday because it showed only $300 of the payment, after speaking with a rep, on Monday, another $308 was accounted for, it still saying I owed an additional $297. This has driven me to go to Navy Federal and get the payoff for this vehicle, so I mailed it in and now all of a sudden, not received it yet.

I spent over 26 years Active Federal Military Service, and never had any issues with banks, this is so ridiculously out of Professionalism, and you can never speak with anyone that knows anything about your account, I'm just wondering how this bank has survived this long. Never again will I spend my Hard Earned dollars with this bank.

Then she said it would be 10 more days to put it back into my account and then to top it off they would have taken September payment out if I would not have said something to her. I was notified about fraudulent activity Sunday morning at 7am. Called the fraud line (not the same as Ally 'customer service'), and confirmed 6 fraudulent charges. Got those cleared and the card 'locked'. At 8pm I got an email notification that another fraudulent charge went through. At 930pm on a Sunday my wait time was 1 hour and 20 minutes to report the fraudulent activity. I was bring to their attention that the fraud issue I spoke with someone about that morning was still occurring. Their solution was for them to allow me to 'dispute' the bill which is pretty insulting considering they were well aware of fraud charges within the past 24 hours.

Their employees have to go through a long, absurd script asking questions like - did I have any idea who used the card, did I recognize the vendor, did I file a police report. No wonder customers are on hold for over an hour. An additional insult is their hold recording says over and over that customers are valuable and that they appreciated our 'patience' while being forced to wait on hold, lest Ally allow your account to be cleaned out, patience has nothing to do with it.

They are clearly not allocating enough funding resources for hiring. If they were paying a living wage they would not be so short handed. Doesn't instill any confidence in the business planning abilities or their treatment of their employees. I am now awaiting the bank's decision on whether or not they believe I should pay the $144.66 fraudulent charge! I will be shopping for a credit union today and moving my checking account.

A few months ago, I received a fraud alert from Ally. It took quite awhile to get through to customer service but when I did, the representative took care of the issue and re-activated my debit card. However, it declined at a store that same day. And then, received notice that several bills connected to this account declined and I had fees as a result. It took over an hour to get through to someone and she said she again activated my card. Wrong! It declined again at Costco. Another long wait and spoke again to someone after asking for a supervisor, she said that she was able to fix it. Wrong again! It declined at Home Depot.

Finally got a hold of a supervisor. After a long hold, I thought that I figured out what the problem was and when the supervisor came back on, she explained what happened and I was right. Instead of activating my current debit card, the representative mistakenly activated my new debit card that was being issued to me as my current one was going to be expiring soon. However, the new card was not in the mail yet. The supervisor said she'd briefly put me on hold again to see if she could manually change the expiration date and I was on hold for 30 minutes and then the call was disconnected and they never called me back. Three weeks later, I still did not have access to my money through my debit card.

I had to go to a local credit union, open an account, add money and then received a new debit card from a new bank faster than Ally could fix my problem. And they didn't even fix it. I just had to wait for my new card to arrive via snail mail. Didn't bother expediting anything. Fast forward to today. I got an email from fraud prevention that said there was a charge. Great! I've been trying to reach fraud prevention all day and now, I'm sitting on chat and there hasn't been a single representative to help me after over an hour and it keeps logging out waiting. And alas, I'm stuck with a debit card that's frozen due to fraud. This company has completely down hill and I do not suggest to anyone to open an account. Actually, close your account because if you ever have an issue, you're not going to be able to get a hold of anyone.

The warranty that I purchased states that it does cover the engine and Ally keeps having the service center jump through hoops before approving the replacement. Apparently there are different levels to a tear down of the engine to check for an engine failure, well, Ally tells the service center to do a specific tear down so they do and they send Ally the report then Ally comes back and asks for the next level of tear down, the service center is now on the third level of tear down and waiting for Ally to respond to the report. Oh and they will not authorize me to get a rental vehicle until they have approved the work.

So not only am I paying for a vehicle that is not drivable but I am having to borrow a car from a family member because they will not provide a rental at this time, that's almost four months now that Ally has been taking my money and not providing a service that I paid for, the warranty wasn't free, I paid for it through my auto loan so it also means that I am paying interest on it. I will never again get an auto loan or any loan for that matter through Ally. This is only a fraction of the issues the service center and myself have had with Ally up to this point.

My money would arrive in my Cash App, and I would send it instantly to Ally with no problems. Starting in March, however, my money would take several hours to show up in my bank account. They claimed they were doing a system overhaul. The last time I did an instant transfer, it took 12 hours for my money to show up. It was a Friday, and I had bills to be paid before the weekend. Luckily, none of my bill payments were declined or overdrafted, but the stress, worry and frustration was overwhelming. Not only that, but the money I spent for doing those fees to instantly have my money available, added up over the course of 4 months.

Something else disturbing happened in the month of May. I received 5 letters saying my account was overdrafted. Then I received another letter that there was an error, and my account wasn't overdrafted. You don't play around with people's money, period! The worst banking experience of my life. And one of the all-time worst experiences in my life, period. Ally isn’t a bank. Ally is a punishment for your lack of research and naïveté. They are incompetent, they are liars, they are not even a complete product. My first experience with Ally was trying to buy tires. I was in the tire shop for FOUR. HOURS. I called over half a dozen times. I was put on hold for over half an hour EVERY TIME I was put on hold. I was hung up on. The reps who DID speak to me, gave me a different explanation and solution EVERY single time.

I wasted four hours of my life that I’ll never get back trying to figure out why I couldn’t buy tires and apparently nobody at Ally knows why, either. It felt like each one that I did manage to speak to was pulling ideas out of thin air and suggesting them to me. No one ever seemed to know what they were doing or what could be done. When I told one of them about this frustration, he snarkily replied, “You signed up for this.”

Ally isn’t even “built” yet. Multiple actions any other bank can perform with ease, Ally hasn’t even started doing yet. Do you get money transfers from Venmo or PayPal? Are you given the option to receive that money “in minutes”? Maybe you could do that with another bank, but with Ally, it takes days. This means that when I’m given money by my partner (who only uses Venmo) to pay a bill, it’s up in the air as to when I’ll actually get it. Some utilities and credit cards won’t accept Venmo payments, so I end up being late on my bill because I transferred the money out of Venmo to Ally, but Ally isn’t capable of accepting it immediately. The rep in this situation told me the same thing every other rep has told me about everything: They don’t do that “yet” but they’re “working on it”.

I am constantly harassed to update the app and it never changes anyway. I was told on another occasion that I can’t see more information on my pending transactions other than city and state because of an update, but there would be a further update to correct this. This has been the case since I opened the accounts, and no further update to actually correct this issue or any other has ever taken place.

Recently I was being charged repeatedly by a fraudulent merchant. I contacted Ally and told them to call stop charges. Ally’s rep told me that Ally Bank does not block fraudulent charges, even when a customer reports them. There is literally no way for Ally’s customers to block repeated fraudulent charges, even if they report them to Ally. Rather strange, for a bank who consistently blocks their customers’ access to their own money because of “security”. Instead, I was told I would receive a new debit card, and in the meantime, to manually block the charge by type in my Ally app, BUT, the rep had no idea what type of charge it was, so screw it, just block them all. FINE.

I don’t know why it’s impossible for Ally to figure out how to block fraudulent charges like any other bank, but I’d gotten used to their lack of ability compared to other banks at this point. Turns out, Ally sent me an exact copy of my debit card with no changes. The rep’s idea of just blocking all my charges on the card thus proved to be futile when, upon activating my “new” card and unblocking it, the fraudulent merchant simply started charging me again.

If this happens to you as an Ally customer, don’t ever bother contacting them about things of this nature. They’ll say they’re sorry somebody messed up on their end or told you the wrong thing and now you’re stuck paying for it, literally, but they will absolutely refuse any kind of rectification. It’s as though they’ve been trained to understand that it is your fault for trusting Ally and its representatives. So, even if their actions or lies or incompetence cost you money - big money - they will not only refuse to recompense you, they will refuse to do anything at all. Hence why I’m still being charged by this fraudulent merchant while Ally insists that blocking said charges, like any other bank does, is impossible.

Instead of granting access, Ally flagged the account for fraud and is restricting access to ALL of my Ally accounts.

After speaking with the Ally fraud department, completing my personal verification with them and verbally confirming that the business account is mine and legit, they still are requiring additional documentation (bank statement from the external account) to unlock my accounts. This is excessive and prevents me from accessing my Ally accounts indefinitely, negatively impacting my business as I am unable to access funds while their "investigation" ensues. I was with this bank for over 10 years. They offer a decent interest rate and that's the only reason to bank with them. Other than that, they're terrible. Their policies are restrictive and they want to control how you manage your own money. Transfers are based on how they value you as a customer. If they value you as a customer you get faster transfers. If you make even the slightest mistake, they will put you on their longest transfer times. They will even restrict how you use Zelle which is an instant transfer service.

When you call customer service, their representatives will give you incomplete and inconsistent information and answers. In my case, I sent an email to their executive team. Someone named Bill called my work number and left a message. I called back, it went to voicemail. No one ever returned my call. This happened 3 times.

Here's a tip, the money you deposit in banks is yours. It doesn't belong to the bank. Banks like Ally don't want you to know this. They want you to feel like they're doing you a favor by giving them your money. You're not. You're doing them the favor and honor of having your hard-earned money for them to invest and get wealthy off of. Think about this when you decide which financial institution you deposit money with.

There are lots of high reviews for this bank from financial writers. But they do not use the bank and everything that glitters does not prove to be gold. The bank looks good on paper. I actually really liked them. I had four accounts there for several years. Although there were a few red flags in the beginning, I ignored them and kept using them. That was a mistake.

Although there were no issues with my accounts, they decided to close the accounts. They lied to me twice as to the reason and finally said they would not reveal the reason - but "they had a right to". Fine. But what ethics do not allow is to close the account not giving a person the time to get all the payments (including Social Security) moved to another bank. It takes time. I had 3 days. They I moved the majority of what I had in the account to another bank I had linked so that at least I would have my current money in the account to use for bills and so forth. They stopped the transfer and closed the account, sending me a bank check for the balance.

So what could have been accomplished had they just left it alone, required me to wait additional time for the mail to be delivered (and then for their check to clear). This is a really, really, really, unethical bank. I do not know why they closed my account, and only mildly care, but they doing so in the manner they did it. Beware. Trust me, there are better banks no matter how good Ally may look on paper.

It was probably just incompetence that their representative assured me that my Autopay had started, then failed to take my payment. Maybe also just incompetence that they report my non-payment to the credit agencies. But malicious that although the mistake was on their part, they refuse to correct the credit agency reports.

My debit card was canceled because Ally thought it had been compromised. No call, no email. I found out when I attempted to make a purchase and it was summarily declined! That was only the beginning of the debacle! The first set of replacement cards were never rec'd. A second set sent expedited to a mystery address 700 miles from my home. I was assured the third would be sent expedited. Really? The bank has no record of a third attempt. This pattern conforms with all my experiences with ally. I would add that one is on the phone 1.5 hours before the next ally clown finally comes on. They don't have branches and yet they also don't answer the phones. I'm wondering how much the CEO takes home for being such a failure??? RUN FROM ALLY BANK!!!

I have been with this bank for a little over 2 years. Recently, I mailed them a check (USPS overnight) that is above their allowed daily echeck deposit limit. Well, it's been 5 days and I neither see that check in my account nor no one can tell me the truth where the check is. I tracked the check and it was signed by one of their employees in the Philadelphia office. I spoke with three people and each has different information! If you deposit a large amount of money under your own name they will hold it for you even when you tell them that you have bills to pay!! Never again! Take your business or money somewhere else!

They block my payments, online and by phone, they don't want me to pay my total amount due, they hardly are trying to repossess my vehicle that I been paying on time for years and now I own them so less money, and they don't care. they want to make money with my vehicle. They don't listen don't care and don't want to help their customers. Do not do business with them.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: I paid on time for years but now with this pandemic my son and I lost our jobs, and we talk to somebody and they says we have to paid half of our monthly payment. I told them I do not have any income not even to have some food, that I been using my credit card and they did not care. They want to repossess my vehicle when it is almost paid, and the manager was rude and he did not care. They only want to take advantage of my situation and get some free money from me. With son's mustang and my home banks, we have a great deal with them and I am not worry about, because they really help us.

They find any way to get extra money from you. Trying to charge you 2 or more times in one month, adding on insufficient fund charges even though you already paid your bill in full on time. My bank paid off my loan with them when I refinanced my car, and yet they're still trying to take out the car payment. I even called them to ask if they had received said check and they said they had. Luckily I caught it in time and my bank won't allow them to charge me. They're very crooked, and trying to talk to anyone there is very difficult. They like to blame anyone but themselves when they double charge or add on ridiculous NSF fees. I highly suggest avoiding this company if possible.

I suggest you use other banks for wiring. I set up 3 wires with 3 banks with all 3 of them set up 2 business days earlier than when the transfers were needed. All 3 promised delivery the morning of the second day as requested. 2 banks did what they said they would do. Ally failed. It must be a manual process at Ally or the department leaders are asleep at the wheel. Go elsewhere.

Hello Team, I want to report a poor experience with Ally Bank. I am currently working 4 full-time jobs, I transferred money from my business checking into my year's old Ally account via wire transfer/bank transfer as I plan to close out my external account and downsize to fewer jobs. I also purchased my first home in July 2021. It is a fixer-upper that requires ongoing work. Hence the 4 jobs.

Anyway, the last few weeks, I have been paying out a pretty sum and my last completed project is now due for payment. I initiated a transfer from Ally to my Navy Federal account to complete this transaction. I check Ally only to discover that my account is locked and closed due to fraud detection. I call Ally and the representative was immediately untrusting, made me feel like a lying dog. They instructed me to take my phone off of speaker mode to ensure that I was not being coached? Who says that?

I am asking for help in expediting the service provided by this team, they advised it will take a week to resolve, meaning I will be a week without any money all because of what? They refused to explain what caused this issue. The terms and conditions do not explain it. I want my funds released so that I can close out these accounts and never return. This is the worst level of service I have ever experienced. Meanwhile, I work in support. I don't have any supporting documents because they did not provide any. They shut down my account and said nothing. No email, no auto-call, nothing. Please advise and thank you.

SCAM ALERT! AVOID ALLY BANK AT ALL COSTS!!! Take it from me, they hit me with bogus fees that it wiped my entire account!! A stock that I never purchased came into my account a decade ago with no value. Then I tried to sell it and the Ally platform wouldn't let me because it was worthless. Then they started charging me a $20 per month fee. When I recognized it, they'd charged nearly $250 in fees from a stock I never purchased and wouldn't allow me to get rid of. Then when I recognized it and asked for the fees to be refunded, they refused. Terrible customer service. Terrible platform! Terrible place to invest unless you are willing to watch every month's statement with a fine toothed comb. Take your business elsewhere!

Updated on 02/08/2022: For those interested in some additional context, in December, I enabled automatic monthly payments on two of my Ally accounts to be processed on the 3rd of every month. Both payments successfully cleared from the same checking account in January. However on February 3rd 2022, only one account had a successful transaction. I received an email notifying of this. On the website I discovered that my account information had been deleted. That evening, I tried several times unsuccessfully to re-enter my routing and account number. Each time, I received a message falsely saying my bank account had a negative balance. In fact, I had more than enough funds to cover my payment and ended up paying successfully with the debit card attached to the same checking account the system claimed had a negative balance.

I contacted my bank the next morning and a representative confirmed my account balance had never dropped below $0 and there was no evidence the first transaction was initiated by Ally. I looked at my bank statement and also did not see any evidence of a denied transaction from Ally. I contacted Ally first thing on Monday morning and the customer service representative read a generic response telling me to ask my bank to write a letter explaining why the transaction was declined. I explained that this was not possible since my bank had no knowledge of said transaction. No one I spoke to at Ally offered to look into the matter on my behalf. Instead, I was sent off with a list of requirements for this letter my bank was somehow supposed to fabricate.

As expected, my bank provided a letter that met none of the requirements except verifying my identity and reiterating that no transaction was denied. Still, no one I have spoken to at Ally has offered to investigate things on their end or can explain how the same account number and routing number worked for one transaction and not the other on the SAME day. Ally claims to have received an error saying my “branch was sold”. How was the branch sold for one transaction and not the other? I fulfilled my responsibility as a customer by providing accurate financial information and ensuring there were enough funds in my account. My bank fulfilled their obligations to approve said funds. Ally bank on the other hand has proved that they are in fact not an ally to anyone. How can a company be known so publicly for its bad customer service and continue to do nothing?

Original Review: If you can avoid opening an account with Ally Lending or using this institution for any transactions, I high recommend you run. Within a few months of opening an account with them, someone or some system screwed up processing a transaction. The responsibility of fixing the problem was placed solely on me, the customer, even though I accurately enabled automatic transfers and ensured there was more than enough money to cover said transaction. Ally Lending displayed zero accountability and offered no assistance in resolving the issue they caused. In summary, if you are financially responsible and want an institution you can trust or at the very least rely on to fulfill their obligations, Ally Bank is not the financial institution for you.

Ally Bank doesn't know how to process Wire Transfers, which they treat as regular B2B transfers; the former takes 15 minutes to move money, the latter several business days. I had an absurd situation where I made 3-way call with Ally and my other bank, and Ally clearly doesn't know how to process wire transfers. When my bank sent wire, Ally automatically treated it as regular B2B transfer - not a good option if you need to move money quickly. Also, they lock customers out of their accounts (for suspicious activity), which is good, except that they don't notify clients of such activity (it's a "suprise" at the next login) and it takes several months to unlock such accounts.

Your options are wait, lawyer or state attorney complaints - meanwhile you cannot access anything in your account: balance, transfers...etc. I opted to wait and it took four months for them to unblock the account, without them even notifying me via email/text they've done so. In summary: nice apps, relative ease of use, but utterly incompetent and untrained staff, along with flawed banking services.

Ideal Image did not point out if late more than twice Ally will charge full amount and you will lose promotional deal. I couldn't read the contract as well on my phone. I was late a second time and Ally CSR NEVER mentioned, 'Hey, if late again you will lose your promotional deal.' They only did way after I had been late again. I paid late fees and everything, but Ally wouldn't reinstate the promotional deal. They are money hungry in my opinion and I don't like contracts that have sneaky clause such as that. Why does that clause even exist, they get late payments on me too. They rip more than they offer as far a quality customer service and care. They could have done more to assist me. They focused only on their profit. I will never utilize them as a lender again.

01/13/2022 We interacted with 2 associates Aaron and Jason. Aaron deserves a 5 star rating and a bonus. He was very helpful, respectful, compassionate. He really tried to help us with our situation even though there's nothing he could do about it. His actions and words showed that he cared about us. Jason was the second person we interacted with. We had to talk to him because Aaron was busy (yeah, he'll treat you like a brother).

Jason earned himself and his company 1 star from us. He was unprofessional, provocative, unwilling to help, either his way or the highway. We asked to speak to his manager because he couldn't help us. My husband said, "you couldn't help us because you're just a regular guy, I'd like to speak to your manager". And Jason thought that we "insulted his intelligence" (his words) by calling him "a regular guy". With the full context, even an immigrant (me), can understand that "a regular guy" here means "another associate " whom is not a manager with the power to override certain things. And at the end of the call, he just hung up on us. His actions and words showed that he was only there to earn money, not to work with people. This Jason will treat you like you're a beggar who would waste his precious time. I truly wish Ally Bank could give their associates proper trainings regarding professionalism.
