I had a sound bar. We had it turned off and a storm came. And when we went to turn it back on, all we heard was “poof.” It kept doing that. We turn it back off and on, and there was nothing. All my electronics have a warranty. I filed a claim with SquareTrade and it was easy, fast and they understood exactly what happened. They gave me a refund and I bought a different kind. It has more power and it’s doing real good.

Terrible service! They are a scam! Sent my laptop in for repairs. First they approved my claim. Then they suddenly changed their mind and denied it. They said that the battery not charging properly or holding charge, screen losing color, and key not pressing is physical damage and not covered. Yet I never had any physical damage. Very bad and not logical replies, I even canceled all my other warranty plans I had with them! Avoid!!!

    Hello Aous,

We apologize we were unable to service your item.

Your claim was initially approved for a mail-in repair, as the description of your item's failure corresponded with the coverage of your warranty. This warranty is a Standard plan which covers hardware and electrical failures due to normal use.

However, when this item was received by our repair center Squaretrade technicians determined there were several signs of physical damage to the product. This warranty does not include coverage for these types of issues and this is why your item was returned unrepaired. We have processed a full refund of your warranty price and again we apologize for your experience.

    Thank you,

    Original Review: March 6, 2019

I have been in a constant struggle with getting my claim resolved. It all started when I broke the screen of my Pixel 2 XL. I then filed a claim online and paid and then was referred to a repair shop. I called the repair shop that the claim was for and they did not have the part available in stock. I was told by the repair shop that I would have to wait 3-5 business days for the part to be delivered. I did not like the idea of that because it was too close to the day that I was supposed to be going on vacation. So I then had to call into the claims department to get them to change the repair shop the claim was for.

So I called into the claims department at SquareTrade. I spoke to the agent and let him know that the previous repair shop did not have the part and if he could call other repair shops to make sure they had the part and would be able to fix my phone ASAP. The claims agent put me on hold and then changed the claims location on the original claim number. He assured me he had checked with the location and they indeed had the part. Well that is where this all goes downhill. So we process the change on the claim and then I get off the phone. I then have a feeling that I should call this repair shop before driving all the way there.

I call the repair shop and the technician there says he does not have the part available and again I will have to wait 3 to 5 business days for the part to arrive. I am immediately not too happy about this. I really think the claims agent lied to me because I asked the repair shop did they get a call from SquareTrade about part availability and the repair shop technician said they did not have it. So at this point I am really dissatisfied and disappointed and slightly irritated that they would lie to me that the location had the part available that day so that I would be able to get my phone fixed.

I then call back into SquareTrade claims department and let them know that the location they sent me to never ever had the part to repair my Google Pixel 2 XL. I had previously called all other repair shops in the area that might have the part and I finally found one that had the part to repair my phone. I ask the agent to change the location on the original claim and the agent is not able to do this. He must cancel the original claim and refund me my money and start a new claim.

I am almost sure this is not good practice. All I wanted him to do was to just change the repair shop on the claim. Apparently their system is weird and you have to cancel a claim and do another one in order to complete this. But I did not want them to cancel and refile the claim because that would put another hold on my card and being that it was a Friday that this was all going down. I really would not have that money refunded until Monday or Tuesday of the following week. This made me angry that I would have to do this.

I asked to speak to a supervisor. (The supervisor got frustrated with me.) The supervisor was also unable to just change the location and insisted on creating a new claim. I thought that this was weird and I was angry and frustrated to the point were I did not want to talk to the supervisor who was not very helpful and I felt was slightly rude. So I allowed them to charge my card again. Fast forward it's Saturday I get my phone fixed and everything is all good.

Then a few days later water gets on my phone. I then learn that the previous repair has rendered my once water resistant {Pixel 2 models can be fully submerged in water as deep as 1 meter for a period of up to 30 minutes.} is no longer resistant to water. I thought phone repairs would allow the phone to be restored to its original features. The waterproof/water resistant is really a feature of the phone and I am confused why no one told me that a phone would no longer be waterproof after a repair. So I call back into the claims department about this issue that the phone was never restored by to its original working order and that they would need to fix this.

After to talking to a claims agent and claims supervisor he came to the resolution that he would allow a new claim and waive the fee. As he was going to create a new claim he let me know that I had already used up all of my warranty for the year. I get very frustrated and let them know of my initial claims fiasco as if you are reading this will see above. I asked him had anyone notated anything in the system. I told him only got the phone fixed once and they had to do two claims previously because they couldn't just change the location of where I wanted the phone fixed. Now the claims supervisor is telling me he has to have the tech department handle this and would be back in touch with me in 24 hrs.

This is highly unacceptable and I decide to wait till the morning and call them back. When I called them back I was still frustrated and the supervisor that spoke to me also became very rude and frustrated as well with me. He also told me I would have to wait until the previous case manager called me back. I am still in an unresolved state and have been without a phone for a couple of days. Also no one has yet to call me back. I am not at all happy with this insurance company and they need to learn how to better handle issues and not take 24 hrs to fix an issue. I will continue to call them until they have resolved my issue and I have a working device in hand. If you are thinking about purchasing this insurance really take my experience as a valid option. Do not waste your money.

Don't know what is going on with this company, but after reading some of the reviews on consumeraffairs.com I'm getting worried. I've filed a claim online and received an email to click on a link to call SquareTrade. I thought this was weird but I clicked the link anyway. It took me to a page where it asked me to enter my phone number and said that someone would be calling me within 1 minute. That was 1 hour ago and the page is still saying someone will call me within 1 minute. Love how instead of sending you a phone number to actually call they send this email which leads nowhere. I've tried call the 844 906 1072 number listed on this page, but all I'm getting there is recorded messages and an awful phone tree. If anyone from SquareTrade is reading this or even cares, please call me at **. Thanks.

Bought plan through Amazon. 6 months later I needed to use the plan. My claim was immediately denied. They said I had to go to the manufacturer. Manufacturer said it was not covered. Back to SquareTrade. They said that since the manufacturer warranty did not cover it that it was now covered under SquareTrade. I mailed item in and 2 weeks later they sent me an email saying that it was no longer covered and they would be sending it back unrepaired and unreplaced and they would be cancelling my protection plan. This is a SCAM. Do not buy. I read the reviews and did not listen. Do not make the same mistake I made. They will 100% deny your claim and then cancel your protection.

I was to get a callback within 24 hrs. Never did get the call. Called back the following day and was told the system was having problems and they would call within 24 hrs. I told them I never received the callback last call. They apologized and promised it would be resolved by the 24 hrs. I repeated the call 4 days later and got the same response, the system was having problems. Fast forward 4 more calls and it is almost a month later I called again today with the same story and was told they were having problems with the system and would get it resolved within 24 hrs. We have so many items with SquareTrade's protection plan on. We’ve filed a claim with them two or three times over the years and it has been super simple. They make it really easy. The one claim we had was for our VIZIO 65-inch TV. I talked to SquareTrade customer service and they said that it was a firmware problem from a recent software update from VIZIO. VIZIO was aware of it and was working on it. I gave it a couple of days and it resolved itself after 36 hours. So, there was no need to follow up. So far, it's always been a pleasant experience with SquareTrade. That’s why we keep adding stuff to our list.

SquareTrade made two attempts to repair the television, unsuccessfully. They were actually pretty good about that. However, after they ADMITTED that the television is defective beyond repair, they REFUSE to honor their own terms and conditions. SquareTrade insists on replacing the television with another model, even though they are not comparable. Under the law, because SquareTrade did not specify which remedy they will offer first, the consumer is permitted to choose.

However, no one can actually get reimbursement value for their product. Several managers have even state that this is SquareTrade's policy, even though this "policy" is notably absent from the warranty specifications. Under the terms the warranty, they have no right to refuse reimbursement value. This "policy" may be considered consumer fraud, and and I will be making a referral Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. To date, I have spent countless hours discussing this issue with them, only to get a constant run-around. My recommendation is to absolutely avoid buying a warranty from this company - it is worthless.

    Hello Aaron,

We apologize for any misunderstanding regarding our TV claims process.

Squaretrade offers repair, replacement and reimbursement resolutions. Which resolutions are available depend on the item category and the issue it is experiencing, as Squaretrade's first intention is to offer repair for all eligible products. If we're unable to repair the product we will determine if a replacement can be sourced, as has occurred with your claim. Whenever we do so we base our replacement offer on the technical specifications of your original product.

If our replacement offer does not contain comparable technical specifications we do our best to accommodate this expeditiously, by either sourcing another offer or resolution. In this situation we understand you feel our replacement offer is not comparable, due to this one of our specialists has reached out to further discuss your concerns.

At this time we're waiting to hear back. Once we speak we're eager to improve your view of Squaretrade.

Wrote earlier about my situation with SquareTrade but was hoping for the issue to be resolved but as of date - (03/03/2019) is has NOT been resolved. The monies have been put on cards that have been since deleted and I have no recourse in receiving my refunds. I can sincerely pass on a valuable lesson I learned from this is not close your account or warranty without changing your credit cards information in case SquareTrade has to refund you on your original payment. I had over $144.00 coming to me that I should have received but will never see - I'm sure. This situation has lost all faith in SquareTrade and promise to never use them again and advise others to be careful dealing with them. I do NOT trust SquareTrade for this very reason. On 01-29-2019 I spoke to Keith at 10:58 am about problems with my Epson XP-640 printer. I was told I would receive a check for the amount paid for the printer so I could purchase a new one. When the check arrived it was less than the cost of the printer, I was told they sometimes send a second check to cover the balance. I called back on 02-04-2019 to check the status and spoke with Annabell at 4:06 pm. I was put on hold so she could check Keith's notes. Annabell explained she would put a request in for $21.16 to be sent to me to cover the balance of what I paid for my XP-640 printer. I then requested to speak to a supervisor; after holding I spoke to Malik at 4:26.

After a long discussion she assured me I would receive a second check for $21.16 which would cover the total cost of $149.99 that I paid for the XP-640. I still have not received the balance due to me. I have used SquareTrade for many products purchased for home use and have never encountered so much trouble with a claim. At this point I question if I should keep using the warranty service on items I purchase. The problems I encountered has left me with a bad feeling at this time.

My son dropped the Nintendo Switch on the cement, and it broke one of the little buttons at the very top of it. So I got online, filed a claim, and within a day, I had an answer as to what they wanted me to do. They emailed me a slip to put on the box, and I drove it to FedEx and sent it off. They emailed me when they got it, and then they also emailed me when they sent it back. I got it back, and it was a very good experience overall.

I purchased a Vizio D58U-D3 at Sam's Club in 2016 and the SquareTrade protection plan was encouraged by the Sam's Club associate. I paid $99 for a 4 year protection plan. I opened a claim on February 8th 2019 and was told they couldn’t find my plan and requested a copy of my receipt which I sent them attached to an email. After many disconnected calls and premature closed chat sessions I finally called Sam's Club customer service on February 22nd. The representative called SquareTrade to get some answers while I was on the phone also. We were told again that they are trying to locate my protection plan and I would receive an email when they found it which would include a link allowing me to file a claim. I asked to speak to a manager who just repeated what I was already told.

I finally received the email on February 23rd. I used the link to file a claim in which I detailed the issue with the color problems on my TV. The TV is covered in blue tint and the audio is off. When I submitted the claim it immediately said that this was accidental damage that is not covered in my SquareTrade protection plan. There is nothing physically wrong with the screen or TV. I have since done research online and found this is a common issue with these TVs when the phosphor or yellow center on the backlight LEDs crumbles and falls off leaving you with a bluish purple tint to everything on the screen. This is not accidental damage. My TV has been connected on my wall with a TV mount and has not been moved since it was placed there. I am going to report SquareTrade to BBB as well as consumer protection agency. If I could give zero stars I would have.

I bought my wife a ring for her birthday on eBay. Then, I got a message that said that I could get a warranty through SquareTrade, so I did. Four days after my wife wore the ring, a stone fell out. I called SquareTrade to file a claim but I had to call about four times to get it going. They wanted a receipt and I told them that eBay doesn’t give a receipt. After talking to about four other people, one guy told me that he would call back but he never called me back.

The next day, I called another guy and he really helped me out and he knew what he was talking about. I told him about the ring and he told me to send him a screenshot where it said, “Paid on eBay,” and he accepted that. He sent me another email which said to put the ring in a box and send it and he told me how to do all that. I sent it and it worked out well for me. Having a warranty is valuable because I would have had to pay somebody to put a new stone in it. Right now, I'm just waiting to get the ring back. It's on its way from the place that fixed it.

The screen of my laptop was completely shattered and when I filed a claim with SquareTrade, all I had to do was go to their website and answer the questions. It took me about 10 minutes to file a claim and everything was fairly straightforward. The only issue I had was that the site did not work on my phone, so I did have to find another laptop to use because I was in a predicament where I didn't have one. SquareTrade can improve by checking their website to see if there's a way to make it run better on phones. In my situation, I didn't have an easily accessible laptop to file the claim in the first place, and all I got was a black screen on my phone when accessing the site. But other than that, SquareTrade handled my claim well. The laptop was repaired in a timely manner and everything was all right.

Any time that I bought anything from Sam's, it has always worked out well for me to get a few extra years on a warranty. One time, I purchased a protection plan from SquareTrade for a freezer. It was a little 4 cubic foot freezer and when it quit working, I filed the claim. SquareTrade told me that they couldn't find one to replace it for the same amount of money so instead, they refunded my money. While the whole process was easy, I had to go through a rigmarole to get on the website when getting the claim filed. That part was tedious. Still, once I got those first four steps done and got to a real person, they were so helpful.

I would suggest that if somebody doesn't have the receipt, SquareTrade should find another way to help them out. Also, let Walmart know that they have to keep the receipt. Nobody knew that. Nevertheless, the last person I talked to helped me solve the problem. I gave him the IEMI number and I could get a new phone.

I bought a FITBIT HR watch from Sam's Club and also purchase a 3 year protection plan through the Square Trade for $14.88. I submitted a claim since the wristband and battery protector part has got detached from its metal/plastic head portion of the clip of the watch on the side and back. After sending the watch I received an email stating that the item was not cover and to contact them to get a refund for the amount I paid for the plan. I called and spoke to Ross at customer service, and then with customer service manager Jeremy who stated that the plan did not cover water damages. I explained that the watch did not had any water damages since the mechanical part of the watch was working, however the rubber part of the watch had detached. Then, I was then told they could not cover physical damage due to the kind of plan that I purchased. He stated that the plan didn't cover the issue that I was having with my watch.

All of this was a huge waste of time! This company is not consistent. I was given different reasons and excuses as of why they were not able to honor the warranty. This is not the first time that I have issues trying to use a warranty with SquareTrade. I will never purchase any warranty plans from this company again. I looks like they always have an excuse to not honor the warranty they sell. They take money from people saying that they're going to replace or fix items and they do not do it. Do yourself a favor and do not purchase warranties through them!

I bought a TV at Costco and they suggested that I get a SquareTrade warranty on it. It was two and a half years old, and all of a sudden, one-quarter of the screen started going dark. I called SquareTrade to file a claim. I went through a voice menu which was very confusing. Especially when I had a recall, they would say, “To do an existing claim,” and then I’d hit that and then they would go through this whole thing and give me this list of stuff I didn’t want. Then they'd ask what kind of appliance it was and when I did that, it was just like a voicemail jail. And the last one, instead of just “Stay on the line and get a representative,” it was “Go back to the main menu,” so I had to go through it again. But once I got to talk to people, they were all very nice.

I explained everything to them and then they switched me to the TV department when I was saying it was TV and what the problem was. And then I had to explain everything over again. They didn’t transfer all that knowledge somehow and so they could do better at that. Then they did a lot of diagnostics over the telephone which was fine but I didn’t realize how involved I was gonna be at that time. I’m almost 80 but I’m actually pretty tech savvy for my age. They asked for the serial number, and the serial number is on the back of the TV and it is so tiny. I had to get my glasses and a flashlight in order to get it. I had to move the TV but I have a stand that has sliders so that wasn’t too bad.

I had unplugged everything and then later on, replugged it in. I had four things to unplug in the back of the set, and there were about nine different plugs. I managed to get them all in the same place where they were. Then SquareTrade said that the TV couldn't be repaired and they would send me a new one but they wanted three pictures taken of the screen under certain circumstances and email those pictures to them. I got my grandson to do that and SquareTrade got back to me within a day saying they would do it immediately.

We ordered another TV and SquareTrade said that it would be delivered on such date and that I would hear from Best Buy. They gave me choices between the three and I picked one and they verified that in the email that it would be coming on the 16th. On the 14th, somebody from Best Buy called me and left a message. I called the lady back and she verified the TV that I had chosen, as well as it would be delivered on the 16th, between seven and one. I asked her if they would really come at 7 AM as I don’t really wanna get up that early. She said they would call me the next day and give me a smaller window. They called and said they were gonna be here between 10:30 and 12:30 on Saturday, the 16th.

I made arrangements for my grandson to be here to put it together once they came and set it up. I stayed home the entire time, didn’t go any place. By 1:15, I thought it was kinda goofy so I called Best Buy and got somebody on Geek Squad. He looked at all kinds of screens and then he said that the TV was not available anymore. When they went to load the truck on Friday night, and I had gotten a call at 7 that they weren’t gonna be here the next day so sometime after that, they found out that they didn’t even have that set. He asked if anyone called me and I said no one. It took them two weeks to figure out they didn’t have that one, and he said this was from Best Buy, that he couldn’t do anything about it. I have to deal with SquareTrade again.

I started all over. I called SquareTrade on a Saturday and got someone. He told me that the TV guys weren’t there and so he couldn't do a lot that da but he'd put me on high priority for Monday morning. They contacted me on Monday morning and I explained what happened. They redid it and said that they would take care of it. On Tuesday, they said that they couldn't find the TV we picked out originally but they got such and such a one and asked me if I could authorize that, which I did, and then I got a confirmation on that. They would be getting this TV from Costco. It was more reliable ‘cause that was where I bought it to begin with, so that’s where it is now.

I wrote a letter back to SquareTrade saying I was upset about what happened. I told them to tell Best Buy that computers today do a very good job with inventory control. As soon as SquareTrade said I picked this TV, that should have gone into Best Buy's inventory control. If they had one, it would go out of inventory, or it would come back in a day or two saying that they don’t have it, but nothing at all. This woman from Best Buy that I talked to that verified with me should have at least got two days to figure out if they have one. If they would have known anytime in those two weeks, they could have let SquareTrade know and I could have picked out a new one a week ago. But overall, I'm satisfied with SquareTrade.

Purchased an item from Amazon along with a SquareTrade warranty. Twenty-two months later the item failed and I placed a claim. They sent me an settlement email for 80% of the purchase price. I went to the website to see the reason for not paying the purchase price and found a copy of the contract which had no mention of any depreciation or withholding. I tried calling but they make it impossible to find contact information. Finally found a number on this site. After the world's longest automated phone system talked with a person. Told that it wasn't called depreciation but it amount to the same thing and the discount is automatically applied by their system. If this was disclosed at the time of purchase I may not have bought the warranty and would not have counted on it. It is a type of bait and switch as they promise or elude to coverage and then intentionally don't provide it.

I had bought a Mercedes S63 Ride on for kids from Amazon in July 2018 and taken a two year warranty from SquareTrade for accidental damage. The car was sold by Big Toys Direct. A few days ago the remote of the car stopped functioning after the child happened to drop it. Since this was covered under the terms of the warranty I raised a warranty claim with them which was approved. So far so good. They asked me to take the remote for repair to a shop in my area which I promptly did and took the toy manual also along. The shop said they had no expertise in repairing toys and they dealt mostly in mobile phones and accessories (incidentally the shop was next to an AT&T outlet!).

I called the call centre to report this and that's when the ignorance of SquareTrade really started showing up: The call centre wanted me to get some documentation completed form the shop. Really? I asked? The claim is approved. Why do I need more documentation? "Okay. Could you contact the manufacturer and come back to us on what he says?" I said, "Fine. Can you give me their number?" "Yes" and the agent started reading the number **... I said, "Hold on. Where is this call centre?" Only a person totally unfamiliar with US numbering would speak a number like that rather than **- etc etc. "Oh we are located in Karachi." I said, "Ok. Do you have an email for the manufacturer?" The email given was **. This was another howler since Big Toys is a totally different company from Big Toys Direct!!

The upshot of all this was that SquareTrade had insured a product for which they had charged me but knew next to nothing on how to go about honoring it. It seems that they take a gamble on the reliability of the product itself and the usual care that an average customer takes of his product. So other people's conduct covers them most of the time. I have two more products that are under warranty from SquareTrade but after this experience I am not going to take out any extended warranty with them. In the end I contacted Big Toys Direct directly, they listened to me and mailed me a remote completely free of charge although the warranty had run out in Jan and accidental damage was not covered. This is what I would call service.

SquareTrade's protection plan had good pricing. I purchased it through the store where I bought my cellphone. They said that the protection plan covers everything which is good. Once, I dropped my phone, it cracked, which was no big deal. But when it was raining, I dropped my phone again and it went on a puddle. When that happened, water went inside of the phone. The phone wouldn't charge and wouldn't do anything because it got wet.

Filing a claim with SquareTrade was simple and easy. They sent me the money back that I paid for the phone because there was no way of fixing it or refurbishing it. That was cool and I was surprised. I didn't even have to speak to anybody. It was all just email. They gave me a set of instructions, and then I printed out the FedEx thing. We happen to have a FedEx box, so we put the phone in there and sent it in. On Valentine's Day, SquareTrade got the phone. They let me know with emails, where it was at and that I could track it. The experience of working with SquareTrade was simple and I appreciated that. The warranty was well worth paying for.

I have been using SquareTrade for years but this is the last time I will choose their services over my carrier protection plan. I first called SquareTrade in December of 2018 to report my broken phone and was told to e-mail them my receipt because it was fuzzy on their end, and they would call me back. I never received a callback. I called again 2 weeks later and was helped, but they were out of stock on my phone so they said to call back again in a week. I waited 2 more weeks until January 21 2019, still no stock.

The third time I called was February 7th and they said that since I have called several times they will buy a BRAND NEW phone and send it to me. I thought wow what a great company. BOY WAS I WRONG. The associate misspoke and I did not receive a brand new phone. Now I am okay with a refurbished phone, I just thought they were going above and beyond. Well, this refurbished phone WAS A COUNTERFEIT PHONE! I knew something was wrong when the LED indicator wasn't the same as my old phone. I call them and they told me that they sent me a defective phone, and they said they can't replace cosmetic defects, but they refunded my deductible because I was told I was getting a brand new phone when I shouldn't have been told that.

So I start using the phone and quickly realize THE ENTIRE THING IS PLASTIC. The fancy OLED screen and glass back that were on my Samsung Galaxy S9+ were replaced with cheap plastic materials. This goes against their terms of service which states replacements will be of equal quality and functionality. So I call them and demand a manager. The manager, Thomas, took my yelling very poorly. He yelled back and argued and tried to talk over me. This is terrible customer service. I asked to have the final resolution of being paid out, and he insisted they send another phone. I would rather use my broken phone than deal with this company any longer. But I am being forced to put up with more faulty replacements. They will not pay me out, even though it is THEM who broke terms of service and sent a counterfeit phone as a replacement. Once this plan is up I will never use their services again, and I recommend you don't either.

I bought two printers from Staples, both HP models. I also purchase a 2-year protection plan through the SquareTrade. The reason for the purchase was that I would get a quicker response and can replace the printer instead of going through the manufacturer warranty. According to the Staples' employee, I was covered for the next two years by the SquareTrade to replace. In theory, the employee also said that I can purchase a new printer at $14.99. The employee was very specific and said that I can go through the manufacturer if I want, but it is faster and better to go through the SquareTrade.

But I just found out today that the SquareTrade benefit applies only after the manufacturer's warranty runs out in a year. Therefore, I have to first make the claim through the manufacturer first. If the manufacturer declines, I have to show proof of the decline and then the SquareTrade will replace. In theory, this means that the SquareTrade only covers 1 year, not 2 years as I was told. It also means that during the first year, I have NO option, but to handle the matter with the manufacturer with any issue.

Another false statement from the SquareTrade and the Staples is that it is not a warranty plan, but the protection plan they are purchasing. Most people believe that the plan covers the product from the time of purchase. In reality, it only covers from the time when the manufacturer's warranty runs out. But that time, most people do not have the receipt to prove that there was a plan purchased or that they even forget they purchased it at all. Do not purchase any protection plan.

Why does anyone purchase a protection plan? It is because most people do not want to deal with the manufacturer. SquareTrade capitalizes on this fact and rips people off. I purchased two protection plan. I cannot even get the reimbursement on the second purchase because it has not been 30 days. This is also wrong as well. Unless the protection plan is from the manufacturer, do not purchase another plan through SquareTrade.

I'm normally not one to buy warranties, usually I never get anything out of them/there is always exclusions. This is/has not been the case with SquareTrade. I called in on the phone, answered some simple questions, took some pictures and submitted a request. They ended up replacing my TV. They also replaced it with a brand new TV, not a refurbished unit. I would recommend this warranty to anyone considering buying a TV. I got this warranty from Costco so it was only $100 bucks. AND, the warranty I purchased is still applicable for the remainder of the life of my NEW TV. So if anything happens to this TV, during its remaining warranty coverage, I can still file a claim. How awesome is that?

We apologize for any difficulty experienced with your recent payment to Squaretrade.

I got SquareTrade protection for an Apple iPhone 8 purchased at Costco. The deal seemed much more equitable. The deductible was more reasonable, and it protected against more risks of failure than the program offered by Verizon. The phone had a problem where it was dropped. It caused the home button to go haywire and lose control of the screen. The SquareTrade agent gave us a fix over the phone for a temporary resolution of getting the home button on the screen as opposed to using it on the mechanical portion of the phone, to use it more like an app. That resolution as well as the remedy we saw online, that maybe if you clean the home button with an alcohol swab, worked. So consequently, our claim was never submitted. The rep was awesome and SquareTrade has a great program. I would highly recommend it for those that are looking to make sure that they are garnering their investment with some reasonable risk at a fair price.

I filed a claim for my iPhone 8 Plus. There is absolutely ZERO communication as to what was actually wrong with the device. Once I received the device, it was incredibly packed in bubble wrap and a cheap FedEx box. Not surprisingly, when I tried to use the phone the screen was replaced, but when you pressed on one part of the screen several other parts of the screen activated. After getting the runaround with the chat person online, I was then directed to call an 800#. After getting connected to a person overseas that could barely hold a coherent thought (and a 20-minute hold prior to that) I was then informed...wait for it (drum roll) that the department that took care of that was closed and I would have to call back tomorrow. Don't believe the hype. The screen I paid a $149 deductible for can be fixed locally for $100 - and at a far better service level. Will update this to see if they actually live up to their contract.

First off, I have loved SquareTrade and have used them many times before to ensure my valuables. About 6 months ago I sent in my laptop in for repairs for the second time. It came back to me and appeared to have been "Fixed." However, recently the problem started again (now mind you I had not dropped, stepped on, or spilled anything on my laptop since last sending it in for quote "fixing" the problem). My warranty is good until 4/9/19. Bought it 4/9/17. When I contacted them to resolve this, this woman helping me went around and around with me saying that my plan was indeed still good and that I was looking at it wrong etc.

After about a half an hour of this she refreshed her page and then said, "Oh, Yes your plan is finished. I'm sorry." I asked her why. She said they already used the max coverage amount to quote "fix" my laptop previously and that there is no more coverage money in my plan left. I am a bit distraught because the same issue that was supposed to have been "fixed" is happening again through no fault of my own, and they said they can't do anything about it. So now I am left with a laptop that needs repairs and no way to repair it.

I bought a phone off eBay in Oct 2018 (New - Other) and added a SquareTrade protection plan. This was the only warranty offered. I later got an email with a link for my plan. Fast forward mid Jan the phone an LG V20 stopped working. I opened a claim with SquareTrade and the waiting game started. I called maybe three to four times and every time I would be requested to submit a receipt in a different format.

Finally I decided to send the phone to LG for diagnostic and maybe repair a $20 service. The phone was returned as un-repairable and cited physical damage that consistent with water damage - The LG reps could not truly identify the cause and on a phone conversation expressed that it could be due to humidity. When I told the SquareTrade reps about the finding he in a very nonchalant way went ahead and gave me a lecture of how should have read the terms of the warranty before purchase. The link to the warranty I received mentions humidity as one of the covered options but they insisted that I purchased a basic warranty which does not cover such damage.

Their advertised warranty that was the basis of my decision to buy mentioned something totally different but he would have none of it and went ahead and cancelled my warranty and refunded the money thereby cancelling my warranty - keep in mind this is after I have filed a claim. I have wasted a lot of time sending emails and no one even responds unless you call. My advise don't get the cell phone plan - not worth the headache. I hope someone starts a class action lawsuit for false advertisement soon.

    Hello Rose,

We apologize we were unable to approve your recent claim.

Squaretrade does our best to help all of our customers but we can only approve claims which correspond with the coverage for your device. In this instance there were initial delays with your claim due to difficulty with the receipt, once this was provided it was determined there was liquid damage to the phone.

This type of damage would be considered physical and not covered beneath the standard warranty for this device. Due to this we cancelled the plan for a full refund, though we understand there is a discrepancy regarding how your plan was advertised.

Then SquareTrade got back to me with an offer of a TV that I didn’t think was comparable to the TV that had broken. The offer was a Sharp, which I didn't think anyone was still selling. They should offer comparable TVs with at least, the same size. I said that I wanted something that is at least 55 inches and I also wanted certain things. They said that they would send me a check. The first guy I worked with was a TV technician and he was good. I had a little difficulty understanding him because English is his second language. They do not provide any customer service, I had to call them 3 months after I filed my claim. NO ONE CALLED OR EMAILED ME. I call and talked to "Samantha" who tells me that my claim was invalid! My warranty purchase isn't the right package for a printer that cost me $484.86. Yet I purchased a Printer Protection 4 yr. $200.00 and above item price. What a lying bunch of thieves this company is. She asked me if I willing to accept only $200 for a $485 printer. I said no! The Warranty states: "If they can't repair your item, we'll reimburse you its replacement cost up to the coverage amount." Then after arguing with Samantha that my warranty is for $200.00 and Above Item price. She said she would have to get approval for my replacement refund, because she called Staples to confirm that the Warranty, I purchased did cover the cost of my $484.86 printer. Then she said she would call me back.

I did hear back from her, so I had to call back 2 more times the 2nd time I called asked for her extension number. Which I never did get. But I was referred to a Manager "Jessabelle" who assured me I wasn't being Ignored AND she would be sure to take care of my claim. RIGHT! She said she would call me back the next day. THAT DIDN’T HAPPEN!

7 days later she finally calls me back and said they would be sending me $200.00. I said NO that not my replacement purchase price. So, she said they never got the printer back, I told her she could have it. "Send me the FREE shipping label and I will be happy to send it to you." And she said they will be getting me replacement USED/RECONDITIONED PRINTER within 10 days, again Really! Today is Feb 6, 2019. We are now going on 4 months and nothing has been resolved. Nothing they say is true, the brochure makes you think you are getting a great deal for your money. You are throwing your $$$ away on this warranty. I called Tenda for an RMA since SquareTrade suggests dealing with the manufacturer in the first year instead of filing a claim. Tenda denied my RMA on the grounds that it was sold to me on eBay, and they're not an 'authorized distributor'. Despite it was brand new and I have returned new items bought from eBay to other manufacturers with no problem. They also took a couple of weeks to respond to emails. But they suggested going trying SquareTrade again so I did just that.

After using the live chat to talk to a rep and submitting the requested emails I exchanged with Tenda, SquareTrade had no problem honoring my claim and sending me the full amount. However, at first they will try to send you some lesser amount than what your purchase price was, saying "this value is determined by the system dependent upon the time when the item was purchased and the issue that is being faced with the item."

I told them I didn't understand and after asking how it all works since I thought the coverage was for what I paid on the item. They said they'll talk to their supervisor and thankfully they decided to give me the full purchase price back in the form of 2 checks (one for lesser amount offered and the other for the remaining amount to purchase price, which don't come on the same day, I had to wait a week for the second). I guess I can understand from a general business perspective, they will try to hold onto as much money as they can. You just don't want to be a pushover for their initial offer if it is less than what you paid.

The only other problem I have with SquareTrade is that their site is needlessly simplistic, and otherwise not very intuitive. There was no process to file a claim within 1 year of manufacturer warranty except through the live chat which only shows up on certain pages. Other than that, I got covered without issue. Tenda on the other hand, not so much.

I do construction and my last phone fell off the ladder and it cracked on the bottom. I needed to have the backing replaced just because it's a brand new phone. I wanna keep it nice. To get it replaced, was gonna be $300. So I decided I might as well get another phone. I got the phone through Costco and I purchased a SquareTrade warranty. The coverage is a lot better than what I would've gotten through my insurance and less expensive.

The claims process at SquareTrade was the easiest thing I've ever done. I called in and the rep was very helpful. What she told me to do was go to my local repair shop, pay $85 for my deductible, and they will fix my phone. And then I have to send the claim to get reimbursed. I will go get it done on my time, that way I'm not without a phone. SquareTrade is the best warranty that I've ever had. I'm glad I found out about them.

Office Depot directed me to call Home Nation and when I reached Home Nation they informed me to call SquareTrade due to file were not to go in drawer, and I needed to call SquareTrade back for a replacement. I was like what? I immediately called SquareTrade back and was informed they could not cover the item due to it was a standard plan that only covers mechanical issues. I really felt like it was a waste of time and money with both product and warranty.

Squaretrade does our best to offer multiple resolutions when available, though which resolutions are available depend on your item and the issue it is experiencing. For your claim Squaretrade initially attempted to source a replacement, but once it was determined this could not be provided we migrated your claim to a full reimbursement for the item purchasing price.

    Original Review: Jan. 30, 2019

If you want a protection plan for a cell phone or other electronics, please do not purchase a plan from SquareTrade as they will lie to you and make up fake stories in order to get rid of you and the plan you purchased so they don't have to pay for your damaged merchandise. Here is my story. I purchased an iPhone 8 in March 2018 from Target and at the same time also purchased a protection plan for the iPhone from SquareTrade. Since then, they have billed my credit card for $7.99 on the first of every month. I see the charge on my credit card bill every month, and SquareTrade gets paid every month.

In late December, I accidentally dropped my iPhone and the back of the phone was cracked. I contacted SquareTrade about the damaged phone and they confirmed this is the kind of thing that this plan would cover. They sent me an email with an authorization number to take the phone to a Apple store to get the phone fixed. At that point, I thought they were great. Around the holidays, I was too busy to take the phone to the Apple store to get it fixed and it is always a pain to make an appointment at those Apple stores. Few weeks after I made that claim with SquareTrade, out of the blue I got an email at 9:00 at night from them, stating that my protection plan was canceled due to nonpayment. I was totally dumbfounded.

I went back and checked all my credit card statements and every month SquareTrade was paid by my credit card. So I contacted SquareTrade and an agent told me they have tried to charge my credit card on "multiple occasions" and did not get paid. They also claimed that they email me "multiple times" to let me know about nonpayment. I told them I never got any emails about this until they send me an email to cancel my plan. So the agent decided to tell me (this is really funny) that the emails probably are in my junk or spam folders. That is odd, as the email they sent to cancel my plan went straight into my inbox, and when I filed the claim initially with them they sent me a confirmation email and that went in my inbox too. In fact, I told them I checked my junk and Spam folders and guess what, there is no email from them!

So I got a hold off one of the SquareTrade supervisors. He cannot find any emails sent to me about nonpayment. So he started to make up his own responses. He told me I should contact Target since the plan was purchased there. I told them this makes no sense because the protection plan is with SquareTrade and they have been charging me monthly, not Target! I did my due diligence and went and talked with a Target supervisor and he said they have absolutely nothing to do with the plan itself except writing it up in the beginning. So, SquareTrade supervisor told us that maybe we should talk with our Verizon representative and I just lost it, and told him he is absolutely out of his mind. Why would Verizon have anything to do with the protection plan?

So I confirmed with Verizon and the Verizon rep told me they have nothing to do with SquareTrade. I also confirmed with my credit card company and they said SquareTrade made one attempt to charge my credit card on January 1 but they somehow made a mistake of some sort and did not get paid, and they did not try again. This is contrary to what the SquareTrade agent told me, that they "made multiple attempts to charge me and emailed me multiple times about this".

If this sounds like a scam to you, that is because it is! If all those things that SquareTrade said sound like lies to you, that is because they are lies! I think SquareTrade deliberately found a way to cancel my plan because of the potential need for them to pay to repair my iPhone. But isn't this their job? Isn't that why we buy protection plans? Isn't it only about $100 more or less to repair something like this? It amazes me that SquareTrade would go through the trouble to lie to, to mislead, and to cheat a consumer when they are in the business of "protection"! SquareTrade doesn't deserve any stars at all. So please, don't ever consider buying a protection plan from SquareTrade. Tell all your friends never to buy protection plan from SquareTrade. They will just take your money for a while and then throw you into the ocean. They are a scam operation. Avoid at all costs!

We apologize for any issues experienced by during the claims process.

With SquareTrade monthly plans consumer's are billed each month for their protection plan. In the event, the monthly billing fails another attempt is made to charge the card on file before the protection plan is canceled. With the monthly protection plan, we are unable to reinstate once canceled.

Tried call customer service and end up in an endless loop. The written contract I read through, says the coverage amount is the purchase price of the item. NO other terms about deductions. My TV warranty with SquareTrade has been a terrible experience. Do not purchase this warranty. I purchased a Vizio TV at Sam's Club and purchased the 4 year SquareTrade warranty. I contacted SquareTrade in July of 2018 about a problem with the TV. SquareTrade stated they sent me an email and I did not respond so they closed my claim. So I opened a new claim on the last day of my warranty and a representative stated that my warranty ran out, which it did not. He stated that he was in Pakistan and they go by their date and time, which is 10 hours ahead of United States time.

After a debate with the representative, he decided that my warranty was still good and accepted my claim. I received an email again to send information, so I contacted SquareTrade to discuss the issue with my TV. I explained to the representative that I have an intermittent problem with my TV and have recorded the problem 29 times and offered to send videos and pictures.

First, the representative states she can not accept a video any larger than 5 mb. All of my videos are over 5 mb. so I could not send a video of the problem. The representative asks me to send a picture of the problem so I sent her several pictures, which she stated she did not receive. After having me on the phone for nearly 2 hours she stated that she is 99 percent sure that my problem is not my TV, it's my cable box, so the warranty will not cover the problem. She stated that because the problem is intermittent it is also not covered.

After arguing with her about making a decision that the problem is my cable box without having a technician look at, she put her supervisor on the phone. He stated the representative told me wrong and that the problem with my TV is covered. He stated that it looks like a hardware problem to him and he will discuss it with the TV specialists the next day to see if they are going to repair the TV or replace it. I asked him if he needed any more pictures or a video of the problem. He stated he received several pictures of the problem and has enough pictures to make a decision.

I informed him that his representative stated she did not get any pictures. He stated she received several of them. He promised me two times that he would personally call me back the next day at 5 pm to advise me of the decision. So, of course I came home by 5 pm to receive the call. However, as I expected, he did not call me and no else from the company did. Instead, I received another email stating they want more pictures of the problem. No one should go through this. This warranty is joke don't buy it!

The technicians would have never called me, so I called them because I got their number from SquareTrade. But the technician said that they didn't handle my kind of computer. So I called SquareTrade and told them what happened, and they apologized. I asked them to send me their database and all that pieces of equipment that this company handles. They were kinda in and out of what happened. But the guy said that they would just get my box right away and have it sent out overnighted.

When I got the box, they sent the Styrofoam that wrapped around the computer, but the box wasn't big enough. The computer would squeeze in without Styrofoam around it. I called SquareTrade back, and the guy was apologetic and he was right on it. He told me to take it to FedEx store because they already have the FedEx label on the box, and have them wrap it, then send them my receipt, and they would reimburse me. I've sent the receipt, but haven't received the reimbursement yet. But the computer has been sent in. I got an email telling me that they've received it, and that they would fix it in the next two to five days.

When I received the computer, I turned it on and it worked. So far, so good. SquareTrade was good in handling the situation. Everyone was apologetic and they were right on it. They did not give me the runaround or try to cock me into thinking it was my fault. I knew upfront that if they can't fix the computer, they'll reimburse me what I paid for it so I can buy another one. But SquareTrade should have known the functions of the computer, and they should have known what their technicians can or can't handle.

Issue two, a little over a year in to my contract, the home button of one of the iPhones failed. I called SquareTrade to start a claim. We had to do the footwork with an explanation that our deductible was $100, but we had to take it to a repair shop and have the repairs made then be reimbursed. If the phone could not be repaired, they would send a replacement but it had to be paid for to the tune of about $750, and when the faulty phone was received the money would be reimbursed. We took the phone to the Apple Store and they replaced the phone free of charge. The customer service people are super nice though. Almost robotic, like maybe they're being fed happy, I'm sorry pills. That's good though.

    Hello MaryAnne,

We apologize for any misunderstanding regarding our warranties.

Squaretrade does our best to ensure customers are aware of our warranty coverage and it's details. Beyond training our partners to advertise our plans we also provide customers a copy of their warranty contracts upon purchase. If this contract has not been provided Squaretrade can provide it anytime upon request and we also allow customers access to their warranties via our website or mobile app.

In this instance your claim was approved for a local repair, an option many customers find to be the quickest and easiest way to have their device serviced. If this option was not sufficient to repair your device Squaretrade also offered a replacement claim. With this resolution Squaretrade does not charge you $750, but merely places this amount on your card as a temporarily hold. This is to ensure both parties receive a device and this hold is lifted expeditiously after the receipt of your original device. We also understand a previous device was lost, but unfortunately Squaretrade does not cover lost or stolen devices at this time.

We again apologize for any misunderstanding regarding our warranties, but we appreciate bringing these concerns to our attention.

    Thank you,

    KM

I purchased a protection plan from SquareTrade for a cellphone. It was what Walmart used. When my phone broke and I needed to get another one, it took three weeks before I could even get the eCard. It was a long time. I talked to five different people before it finally got settled. I was under the impression that I’d get my shipping labels immediately, but I didn’t for some days. It was a hassle. SquareTrade should inform their employees of the exact timing that it is gonna take and that it is not gonna be an over in time fix.

3 year service contract that began 8/2015, computer had no issues until 3/2018. Then the cycle of super arduous hold times, tons of unnecessary up and back, sloppy inadequate repairs that seemed to be temporary fixes as the computer needed to be shipped back with 5 separate repairs with the same problem which kept cropping back up. Now maybe they should have simply replaced the port, or computer had a defect that they should have had Apple simply replace the whole thing. Because of so many repairs where you need to ship it and then eventually receive it back my son was without his MacBook for about 3 months or so when it should have been one repair, not 5.

This service contract was a joke, they even sent it back with the cover half open with more than one type of screw used. They couldn't ship us a screw to repair it so again, I had to ship to them. Even worse, so much time sunk into all this. Ridiculous. Up and back on a repair they never bothered to address properly, the last time was a little better. It lasted 5 months, just long enough for the worst service contract ever to expire and for them to tell me, "So sorry. There is nothing I can do for you". Apple, SquareTrade should not be an authorized service provider. AppleCare seems to be so far superior, do not sully your name with these guys.

Meanwhile, a lovely computer which should be working beautifully is pretty much a doorstop now, and SquareTrade or you should replace it, work it out between you, but never ever waste your time and money with SquareTrade, anything would be better. Final claim was **, with this kind of repair and experience I recommend any other company over this one.

    Hello Beth,

We apologize for any difficulties experienced with your claim or any misunderstanding regarding Squaretrade's service.

Squaretrade is a third party company and is not a business partner of Apple, though Apple products are eligible for Squaretrade coverage. We again apologize if you felt this was indicated anywhere in our advertising or warranty contract, as this was not Squaretrade's intention.

Squaretrade utilizes certified technicians to complete our item repairs and we have several policies in place to ensure these items are properly serviced. This includes fully testing the device hardware after every repair and providing rework periods following each claim.

In this instance your item was sent to Squaretrade multiple times, but some of these repairs were unrelated to previous claims. When you brought us your most recent concern both the claim and warranty window were expired, due to this we would be unable to provide any additional claims.

    Original Review: Jan. 23, 2019

My laptop keyboard stopped working and I have the four year warranty covering it. I had them diagnose it by having them take over the computer electronically. They said it would need to be sent in... After sending it in on January 4th I received it back on the 21st of January. When I contacted them multiple times they claimed it was taking so long because they need to order parts for my computer. When it was shipped back they said the computer was fine and they couldn't duplicate the problem. Which makes no sense if they were ordering parts... Also when it returned the charge that was sent in did not return with it! Overall frustrated with my protection plan and I would of rather spent my 200$ trying to figure out how to fix it myself!

    Hello Jairo,

We apologize we were unable to approve your claims.

Squaretrade does our best to assist all customers but we're limited to approving claims which correspond with your warranty coverage. In this instance your TV claim was denied due to burn-in on the display, an issue which Squaretrade does not cover for any our TV warranties.

Your previous tablet claim was denied due to physical damage. While Squaretrade does offer warranties which cover this type of damage, your policy was a Standard plan. Standard plans cover products from hardware or electrical failures due to normal use, whereas Squaretrade Accidental Damage plans cover issues such as a cracked screen.

Filing for a claim is so easy, and it takes one minute. I have the app on my phone and if anything happens, I file the claim. But when you do, you have to call them again most of the time. Otherwise, it never gets approved. Within two days, they'd have the claim processed and the issue fixed with no hassle. I filed a claim for a phone. Then I took it to Apple and they fixed it. They then sent SquareTrade the bill. SquareTrade deducted the deductible and sent me the check. I always recommend SquareTrade to whoever needs to buy any warranty with electronics.

I have used SquareTrade for nearly every electronic I have purchased over the years. As I have had a few issues in the past, they normally get things corrected quickly. This is no longer the case. My home button went bad on my phone. SquareTrade recommended using the Genius Bar, but there were no available reservations for three weeks that I could make. SquareTrade then recommends going to UBREAKIFIX. The store tells me they can't repair the phone. I call SquareTrade and they say, "Send it to our Repair Depot." I send it to the Depot and ironically the Depot says phone can't be fixed. SquareTrade sends me a replacement which arrives on a Saturday morning. I open the package and the phone has a giant crack on the screen. Great. I call SquareTrade and they say, "Sorry we will send another replacement that will arrive Tuesday."

I never received a tracking number on Monday so I contact SquareTrade. They say the phone is out of stock and they are working on it. I contact SquareTrade Tuesday and Wednesday and they are still working on it. On Thursday, they are still working on it and I ask for some type of resolution. SquareTrade informs me they will send me a different model phone (Had 6 now getting 6S). Great! Phone arrives on Friday. The battery on the phone does not hold a charge. After three text messages phone goes from 100% to 70%. A few more texts down to 20%. This phone was fully charged.

I call SquareTrade back and am told do all sorts of technical things. Erase the phone, update the phone, etc. Still same issues. SquareTrade says, "Ok we will send a new phone out Monday." Of course, it is Monday and still no confirmation email. I contact SquareTrade and they tell me it still needs to be approved even though open Saturday phone agent said replacement would be sent Monday. All I want is a replacement that work. These replacements they have sent are just junk.

Today I called and the agent informed me my warranty is finished because they have repaired it up to the purchase price of the laptop. Nowhere was I told this. I reread the papers I have with my original receipt and it doesn’t say anything about stopping a warranty at 21 months when I purchased the 4 year accident plan. The agent said it’s in the paperwork and will email me the warranty details. Had I been informed of this I would not have purchased the 4 year plan as clearly that was a waste of my time and money. The 2 year plan would have been sufficient. Disappointing and maddening as a consumer.

    Hello Eve,

We apologize for any misunderstanding regarding our warranties.

Squaretrade offers a variety of warranties which include differences in coverage types, this is why we do our best to provide customers a copy of their warranty contract. This contract details our policies at length, including information regarding how long your plan can last. Your warranty includes a limit of liability and therefore offers a limited amount of repairs before completion, of which usually equals the purchasing price you paid for your item.

For this product we provided three separate claims and repaired your product each time. Due to this your warranty is complete and we are unable to provide anymore claims for this policy. We again apologize for any misunderstanding but we greatly appreciate your business.

Instead of accepting that information, I had to send my phone in (they would only do 2 day shipping so that's 2 days without phone). They are saying they're "repairing it" which we have already established that can't be done, probably just trying to save money if possible. 2-5 day repair is a sham as it's now been 7 days and they haven't even had the audacity to send me an update. Now I have to wait for Monday as their "repair centers aren't open on the weekend." At this point just give the money for my phone and let me be done with you.

Updated on 01/23/2019: It is not true that I was offered to take my iPhone to an Apple store. I was denied when I requested after I was told (my one option - not numerous as their rep states) to take it to an independent store which does not have a reputation I was pleased with. I had to insist to be able to take it to an Apple store, even though it mentions that an Apple Store is one of the options. I had to point it out to the customer service rep. (I don’t blame her, she was pleasant, she was just doing as she is told.) And yes she did tell me that they would be notifying Apple store that I would be there. Perhaps the ST rep should make sure that their employees know the process.

The sound on/off button could not be flicked on or off. Obviously not a software issue or something that could be fixed by a software update. The person I was speaking to on the phone was obviously not a specialist by their responses. This call took way too long, and the customer service person wasn’t taking down the information correctly, I had him repeat it back. He was very pleasant but it needs to be a quicker transparent process. Why not tell everyone online who files a claim for certain things other than screen or case damage that you’ll have to update your system? That takes time. And how about not closing the claim assuming that the update will fix the issue! I had to file a new claim and wasn’t able to at first.

My claim could not be completed online because they needed my receipt uploaded. I went through more than 20 minutes of wasted time on the phone to get to that point. I would’ve been happy to have uploaded it during the process if they only asked but they don’t and there is no way to. It should state on the first page before you file a claim please upload your receipt if you haven’t already. It doesn’t. I’m supposed to reply to SquareTrade privately after they said things that were not what happened, this doesn’t seem appropriate. I am so glad I went with AppleCare for our three new iPhones. It’s a better deal especially cost for screen repair.

Original Review: I have been with SquareTrade for many years for many items. Filing a claim used to be a simple easy process. Not anymore. Recently their service has gone downhill and the prices are not competitive. I was given the run around trying to get my iPhone button repaired and made to do things to waste my time. Not only was I emailed to call customer service - a 20 minute waste of time - but it turns out all they wanted was my receipt uploaded. Why not ask online during the process? Online where you click to file a claim you cannot see if you’ve uploaded a receipt. Fix that. My case was closed even though I was in the middle of following the process they wasted my time with and had nothing to do with repairing the issue.

So I had to reopen the claim, only the website is not made for that so an hour wasted on the phone. It really makes me mad because I told the rep that it was obviously a mechanical issue - not software, and I would not have wanted to update my software (to one that has many issues!) but I was forced to file a claim. I should have been directed to go to the Apple store as I ended up doing. They first tried to send me elsewhere but I insisted on the apple store as in the past they have fixed issues at no charge (great customer they’ve said) — repairs that should have been paid for by SquareTrade. Same thing this time, the apple repair guy fixed my sound on/off button - a mechanical issue - at no cost. I paid for a new battery, which was on my problem list with SquareTrade but the cost is less than the deductible. Oh and SquareTrade supposedly was supposed to contact the store beforehand but never did!

Also, the text box where you write up the issues you’re filing a claim for is too small. Seems like a scam so you can’t write everything. Also, the customer service person rewrites it over the phone and let things out that I made him correct. On our 3 new iPhones we have decided on Apple Care, a better bargain especially considering the cost for screen replacement! Before SquareTrade was bought out and became horrible I was a very vocal supporter of their service. No more, I’m going to be sure to tell the truth, far and wide!!

    Hello Suzanne,

We apologize for any misunderstanding regarding our claims process.

Squaretrade has compiled years of experience in order to streamline our claims process and make it as hassle-free as possible. Some of these improvements include allowing customers to file a claim on our website, though not all claims can be completed online. This is why we offer multiple methods of contacting customer support, such as phone or chat, as our courteous and knowledgeable specialists will always do their best to assist.

We understand you were dissatisfied with some requirements of the claims process but these policies are in place for several reasons. The troubleshooting our specialists requested you to implement was to ensure the device required a repair, a step which is very common for most warranty companies. Once it was confirmed a repair was necessary Squaretrade offered you numerous repair resolutions, including the Apple store resolution which you preferred. For this resolution Squaretrade does not contact the Apple store, as we are an independent warranty provider and do not have a business relationship with this company.

We also understand your concerns regarding our claim filing portal which is something we are constantly striving to improve. We again apologize for your experience but we appreciate your business and we hope to improve your view of our services in the future.

In 2014, we purchased a 4K TV from AMAZON.COM for $816.18 along with a SquareTrade 5-Year TV Protection Plan, that was offered by Amazon for $96.75. The SquareTrade Protection Plan cost us over 10% of the price of the TV. Recently a couple of the TV's HDMI ports stopped working intermittently. After calling SquareTrade, I was informed our TV required 2 parts to fix it, a Main Circuit Board and a Power Board. A new Main Circuit Board is no longer available. SquareTrade had a Power Board mailed to me, but not the Main Circuit Board.

Several expert TV technicians including the one SquareTrade who had call me, stated "your HDMI port problems definitely indicates YOUR MAIN BOARD IS BAD and NEEDS TO BE REPLACED". On several different occasions SquareTrade previously told me that, if your TV cannot be repaired, you will be contacted and given other options for a resolution instead. SQUARETRADE HAS FAILED TO OFFER ME ANY RESOLUTIONS as promised. I guess SquareTrade thinks they can get away with charging Amazon customers $96.75 for a 5-Year TV Protection Plan, then not HONOR it... I wonder how Amazon feels about SquareTrade mistreating their customers so unfairly like this.

I bought a TV 2+ years ago at Costco and did purchase the extended warranty. The TV developed a burnt out LED rear emitting backlight. The problem presented itself as a shadow in the middle upper portion of the screen. I filed the claim. Everything went very smooth up to the point that the computer offered me 2 approved replacements for my TV and E series Vizio and a LG TV. I didn't feel either of these two TVs were up to the quality of my Original Vizio M series.

There was a contact number listed if there were any issues with the suggested TV's So I called it. I did call, I explained the issue I had with the two suggested TV's and after a very short discussion the TV expert agreed and we agreed that going back to the Original M series was the best replacement. The TV has now been ordered and I'm told it's on its way. To my surprise I was very happy with the interaction and results. Thanks SquareTrade, I did buy my TV from Costco and I tend to believe that companies want to stay on the bright side of such a large reseller.

When I buy certain electronics, I automatically just put on a warranty because I feel it’s a good idea. SquareTrade was offered from Amazon. I've had one claim processed with them and they did not refund the full purchase price of the item. I assume it was a year old and that it was an issue. So, it was a depreciation. The experience was a little repetitive, too. I thought I resolved all the issues and they were gonna send me an Amazon card. When it didn’t come, I called them and went through all the details again. The gentleman I spoke with was very good and helpful, though. Also, the card came right away. I'd tell my friends to use SquareTrade depending on the product.

We purchased a Samsung TV with mounting service in 2016. Three days ago the TV lost all power and would not turn back on. After calling SquareTrade, I was informed the unmounting and mounting, to have it fixed, is not included with the warranty, but if the technician is ok with doing that for us, it is all good (may have to sign a waiver).

We talked to the technician company and they said it would be no problem. SquareTrade then told us, they are not sending a repair person out, since we are not willing to unmount the TV. I would hate to be an elderly person needing help. My husband has shoulder injuries from the military... He had to lift it off the wall, just so we can get it fixed. It ended up being 2 screws and took 2 minutes... All that was a 2 day argument. We are not planning to purchase any more warranties, just not worth it.

However SquareTrade decided to void my warranty due to a small crack on the chassis by the charging port that was caused the charger. However in the contract section L states that cosmetic damage and cabinetry will not be repaired. Instead in just repairing my keyboard they voided my whole contract. I have sent my attorney to my contract and all the online communicated dialogue. Would not recommend SquareTrade to anyone.

    Hello Andriy,

We're sorry that we were unable to repair your product.

Squaretrade warranties do not cover cosmetic issues, therefore Squaretrade technicians will typically do our best to work around these types of issues. This depends on the severity of the issue and if it has caused any repercussive failures elsewhere in your product.

When this item was received at our repair center it was determined the damage to the product exceeded your coverage type. It was also determined that this damage was too severe to be considered cosmetic, due to this we are returning your product and refunding the full purchasing price of your warranty.

    Thank you,

I purchased a $700 Roomba from eBay because I felt secure if there was a problem the warranty I purchased would fix any problems I might have for the next 2 years. I couldn't have been more WRONG. Of all the SquareTrade warranties I have purchased, now I had to actually file a claim, imagine my surprise when they told me normal wear and tear is considered 'accidental' and accidents are not covered...REALLY? So my Roomba was vacuuming my floor, home alone and for some reason the right side clip that holds in the trash bin broke, from repeated pressure? Faulty material? Freak of nature?

Whatever it was it's considered an 'accident' and my $200 warranty isn't worth the paper it's printed on. Well, when I first filed the claim they gave me the option to have it fixed locally and they would reimburse me, sounds reasonable, right? Ha Ha, the repair places I called said send it to the warranty company because Roomba wouldn't send them parts. So what is the REAL problem? Are they selling warranties expecting we will never need them and simply refunding the warranty cost when the actual cost will exceed that number? BUYER BEWARE!!!

I was told that the unit was still under manufacturer's warranty and that I have to call the manufacturer. I was given a number and I called it, but nobody has replied. It's been two weeks. But SquareTrade told me to call them back if the manufacturer decided not to cover the speaker. SquareTrade is doing good.

I have had a SquareTrade warranty on my Dell laptop for the past two years. This laptop seems to run into a lot of hardware malfunctions. Most of the issues seem to be related to the motherboard. The first issue occurred while still under the manufacturer warranty and Dell replaced the motherboard quickly then sent the computer back. The second issue was basically the same as the first but beyond the manufacturer warranty. I filed a claim with SquareTrade and they indeed took care of the problem, repairing the motherboard and sending the computer back to me in working condition.

A month or so later my computer was performing an automatic update for Windows and the update required a restart. When I went to press the power button I was hit by a powerful static shock. Afterward the computer would not complete the POST for Windows and consistently froze trying to boot Windows. I filed a claim and sent the computer to be repaired. It was promptly sent back to me with a note (only a note) saying the issue was software related and SquareTrade would not repair the item, with said claim I also sent in a 64GB flash drive with recovery media which never did get sent back to me.

When I contacted them about it, they told me they never received it but after about an hour on the phone they conceded to reimburse me for the flash drive only if I went to buy a new one then sent them the receipt, at which point they would send me a gift card for the same price. Seriously? I must buy another one, then I will get a gift card that I can really only use to buy yet another flash drive...

That was all terribly aggravating, aggravating enough for me never replace the drive (I feel like that was their intention but that is only conjecture). I got myself past it and contacted SquareTrade again to ask what would happen if I took the computer into a software specialist and they determined the problem was indeed a hardware issue. SquareTrade proceeded to promise me if that were the case, they would repair or reimburse me for the computer.

Now I have that determination/diagnosis and have filed yet another claim with SquareTrade but they have gone back on their original promise and are now telling me they will perform the same tests as before and if they get the same results as last time they will "contact me regarding how to proceed." But regardless of who I was to talk to or what details I request all I am told is: "If it cannot be repaired they will contact me regarding how to proceed." That is a deliberately vague response intended only to pacify an upset consumer and offers no commitment on their side.

At this point I don't trust that I will ever get the computer back if I send it in and no one will offer me any assurance that my issue will be resolved one way or another. It is now 7:00 pm and I have been on the phone (holding most of the time) with SquareTrade since 2:15 pm. I only just was able to speak to a supervisor (Emanuel **) who finally offered me a guarantee that if the item could not be repaired, I would be issued a check for the amount of the original purchase. I asked him to send me his guarantee in writing via e-mail. I have not yet received said e-mail, so I cannot speak to its authority. I can say all of this has shown me that SquareTrade’s initial priority seems to be themselves and this entire ordeal has greatly shaken my trust in the company.

SquareTrade was the warranty that was offered by the retailer we went to. My experience with them was very easy. When I wanted to print a photo, the printer would not pick up the paper and print. It kept telling me to insert a photographic paper but there was a paper in the machine. I tried all kinds of things from disconnecting the printer and turning the power off and on. I also disconnected the printer from the internet because I’ve got a connection there and it records the number of copies.

I tried everything and I couldn’t make a copy of the photographs so I called the number on the warranty and made a claim. I explained the situation to the gentleman who answered the phone. He was very polite and asked various questions which I answered. He said that I’ve had the printer in use for some time and he deducted a little for that. Then, he said he would forward the check in the mail and I received it. The process did not take very long. All in all, I would recommend SquareTrade and I’m very positive about it. The cost of the warranty is not too expensive which was $39 for the $160 printer so it was worth it.

We sent my phone off on Friday and the expected delivery was Monday which was fine. They received it Monday morning but at 10:30 on Wednesday they apparently tried to work on my phone and couldn't due to the passcode that was on it. We did not receive information that stated the passcode would need to be included, especially since the phone isn't working anyways. However this is understandable, what I have a problem with is that instead of calling one of us they emailed to which supposedly was sent on Wednesday but we did not see it until Friday.

All it would have taken was a quick phone call and they would have had their answer while they had my phone out and I might have gotten my phone the same week they had received it. As it stands now I will have to wait another week to get my phone since it is now Friday and I'm sure they won't work on it or ship it out by today. JUST SIMPLY CALL YOUR CUSTOMERS AS WELL AS EMAIL, some normal people don't check their emails every day like crazy people.

I was having issues with my TCL Smart TV. I contacted TCL and they told me that it was a known defect but that my TV was out of warranty (by a couple of months). I had given up hope until I remembered I bought the SquareTrade extended warranty. I thought I was saved! I called them and at first they were very kind and professional. Then they kept asking for more and more information, I gave them everything they asked for. I was told that "everything seemed to be in order" but that I would have to wait for a phone call from their "Specialist" (or something like that). Well, I waited for days and the call never came. I waited a week then called them back. I again got friendly helpful people who made me feel like everything would be ok, until they transferred me to their "Specialist". He told me that he reviewed the pictures I sent and that the tv seemed to be "damaged" and asked me how that happened.

I immediately got upset because I knew his "Specialty" was turning down claims. I got extremely upset at this point because this tv was in perfect condition besides the manufacturing defect. I told him I wanted to talk with his supervisor and after a long hold and being hung up on twice, I finally reached a supervisor who told me in these exact words "we do not cover manufacturing defects"??? What do you cover? I asked. He informed me that he was sorry but that his decision was final and that they were not going to honor the warranty. I have since found that they have done this to many, many people. So in the end the company I thought would be my savior turned out to be a dishonest company who take money on false pretenses and do not honor their contracts.

Tried to file an 'easy' claim online, which I couldn't finish without battling through their phone tree to complete it. It's easy to go in circles with their terrible menu system. It's clear they'll do anything to try to make it hard to speak to a human! Finally reached a very polite human who troubleshoot the problem and said they'd send parts and they'd arrive on New Year's Day. Of course they didn't, but I specifically asked, "Are you sure?" The parts arrived, but the remote control they said they'd send wasn't sent. Turns out it wasn't even ordered. I was given a choice of appointment window and took the day off to wait. More calls to ST.

Finally they assigned a technician while I was on the phone with them, and he called me back at the agreed upon time. We set up an appointment for later this week. Then the remote control arrived and I was assigned a different technician from a different company, who fixed my TV yesterday. The remote control works, and the sound isn't dropping. He was on time, clean, and quick. I don't know if ST canceled the first technician they assigned it to. I guess I'll find out on Friday when he calls me!

As soon as he left, I noticed my TV volume is no longer loud enough, even if I turn the volume all the way up. This is a new problem. I called the technician and he told me I need to call ST back because there might be an issue with the part they sent. Callback is a nice feature but every time it has said the callback would be in '6 minutes', and it's always been much, much longer than that. I'm sure we will eventually get through this, but this has been a lot of time invested over the past 2 weeks. I'm glad I bought the warranty, obviously. And the humans I have spoken to have been exceedingly polite. But this has been a very frustrating experience, and disruptive to my work schedule. This claim was for my Vizio TV, claim # **.

After not hearing anything for a few days I called and got an update on the repair. Come to find out they sent it out to be fixed.

They never notified me that they were going to send it for repairs and then they said it was going to take 2 to 3 weeks. There is no way one can survive graduate school without a computer. I called and tried to see if they would just consider the machine a loss and give me money so that I could replace the machine before school started. No such luck. Very disappointed in the communication. They never told me it was sent out and would take weeks. They never called to see if that was what I wanted done. I could have made the choice at that point to just go the MS and get a replacement. After reading other reviews it sounds like this is common. This protection plan is worthless at this point. Its coverage limit is NOT on the entire product or parts only, rather it's calculated based on cost of repair where most of them (70-80%) are labor and service fee. So for example, for a $1000 laptop, only $200-300 worth of parts are covered after they threw in 700-800 worth of labor related cost at the company's discretion, if you are lucky enough. I'm speaking from real experience. The company can even sent me a invoice of $1000 as their cost to replace a few missing screws to terminate my service contract thereafter. What can I do about it?

    Hello Bravo,

We apologize for any dissatisfaction with our warranty services.

Most Squaretrade warranties cover the product up to the limit of liability for that policy. The limit of liability is equal to the purchasing price of the item and is reflective of the amount in repairs or replacements Squaretrade will provide until that warranty is completed.

Squaretrade mail-in repairs are completed by certified technicians who are extensively trained to provide quality repairs. For most cases when an item repair is considered infeasible Squaretrade will migrate the claim to an alternative resolution, such as replacement or reimbursement.

In this instance we understand you're concerned with the cost of the repairs which completed your item warranty. This is something we'd like to investigate and determine if we can provide any additional information. Please email your warranty or claim information to reviews@squaretrade.com and include "Consumer Affairs review" in the subject line. WOW. On top of this I opened the PS4 Pro and have not found one bug in that thing. Also, why were there no pictures taken of this ''infestation'' to prove that it could not be covered? I am going to try to at least get my 50 dollars back and never mention this service again.

    Hello Kyle,

We apologize for any inconvenience experienced during your claim.

Squaretrade does our best to assist all customers, but in certain instances we are unable to service items due to the condition they are received. Depot technicians perform a full item audit upon receipt of products to our mail in center, this audited is intended to diagnose your item failure and to ensure they correspond with your warranty coverage. This is why your warranty was refunded in full.

Unfortunately none of our warranties cover insect infestation or contamination, this is why your item was returned unrepaired. We understand you have concerns regarding this result, therefore one of our specialists has reached out to discuss the situation with you. We hope to hear from you soon, as we're eager to improve your opinion of our services.

I bought SquareTrade when I bought my quick set pool. However, almost all of its legs became rusted. It was not supposed to be a problem, and that's why we bought that specific pool. I just had to log in to the SquareTrade website, tell what the problem was, and the website gave me options: Repair, which was impossible since the legs were rusted, or have them send the legs, or get cash then I'll buy the legs myself. I then chose one of the options. It was all done online. It was easy and it went fast.

This entire ordeal has been extremely frustrating. What should've been a quick claim turned into weeks of aggravation and discouragement. For starters, I've been trying to complete this claim for over two months now. I've made multiple calls to SquareTrade attempting to receive a reimbursement for the covered item after making an online claim but I ended up getting the runaround. I was promised a callback twice to include a promise from the supervisor Jermaine and neither time did I get a callback! In the end, a representative offered to reimburse me a PARTIAL credit for the covered item although the original purchase price of the item should've been reimbursed in full. Now I won't even have enough to purchase a replacement! I am LIVID! I will NEVER ever use this company for coverage and I'll definitely, without hesitation, reach out to all major partnering companies to notify them of this horrible experience.

    Hello Shonda,

We apologize for any inconvenience or delay you've experienced with your recent claim.

Squaretrade does our best to ensure the claims process is as quick and hassle free as possible, though we'll occasionally need additional outreach or information from the customer to finalize the resolution. In this instance we can see there was a delay regarding your item receipt, but this has since been sorted out and your claim has been approved for a reimbursement via our Fast Cash resolution.

Fast Cash is a convenient resolution we offer customers in situations when an item repair or replacement would be inconvenient or infeasible. This amount is slightly deduced from the original purchasing price but requires little to no action from the customer, should a customer ever be dissatisfied with this resolution Squaretrade specialists can determine what alternatives are available.

We've sent additional information to your email regarding this claim. We thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention so we can review your claims history and determine where we could do better.

We purchased a computer from Staples and SquareTrade was offered as the warranty provider. The salesperson explained all that it covered and the amount. It seemed like a reasonable price for full coverage for spills, dropping and major accidents for two years. The warranty was for my son, just to have that extra protection just in case an accident happens.

My son accidentally spilled apple juice on his laptop, got the keyboard wet. He turned it upside down. Some of the juice dripped out and he tried to dry it off. The laptop didn’t work the first night. We turned it back on the next morning and it started working, but the spacebar is a little sticky. So, we felt it needed to be checked out that was why we decided to file the claim. Trying to file it online, I’m not real computer literate sometimes, so that was a little frustrating for me, so I ended up calling it in and that went really smoothly. Their customer service rep was very polite, courteous, patient with all my questions and in explaining exactly how the process worked. So far, it’s been a positive experience, and if someone was buying electronics, especially for their possibly accident-prone children, I would highly recommend SquareTrade.

SquareTrade was the protection plan that was offered on the Fitbit. It came up when I purchased the Fitbit on Amazon so I just went ahead with it and it was valuable with this particular device because they tend to get abused. So it was helpful to have it and if I am gonna buy another small device like that, I would definitely get another SquareTrade plan. This kind of device is liable to get dunked in water. I'm really careful with mine but I figured something like this could happen with it, and it did.

The strap wore out out on mine and I filed a claim with Square Trade. It was pretty easy but it would have been a little easier if I had been more careful with the receipt and if I had filed it away. I had to go back to when I bought it and it took a day or so for them to go back that far into my purchase records. But I was able to get it and they turned it around in a few hours. It was back in a couple of days. My lens also had a little crack in it and the one I have now doesn’t have a crack in the lens. So I think what they did was send me a refurbished one of the same model. The experience was good and everything was fine.

Lady said, “No I’m just customer service!” Ugh I’m so frustrated. I will NEVER use this company for a warranty again. Come to find out I have to send a copy of the invoice which the first 4 people and 2 claims NEVER mentioned to me. This has been absolutely ridiculous. Needless to say, still waiting for my resolution. I’m about to give up but can’t afford to fork out another 500 bucks for a new Kindle. VERY UNHAPPY CUSTOMER.

They offered me half the cost to go away stating if I didn't take it I may have to ship the chair back to them. Of course it's going to be at my expense. They said they would get back to me in 24 hours. Three days later I emailed them asking for status. They sent me an email saying I have not finished filing my claim. I go online and it is finished. And there for the first time I see info that says the max claim amount allowed is for half the price of the chair. Wow! Worthless piece of paper. I purchased the chair from Staples. As soon as they open this morning, I'm going to call and raise hell. My next phone call is going to be to Amazon to complain to them how I was treated by Square Trade and see about Amazon looking for another vendor as well.

The controller died after 3 months. I called SquareTrade. SquareTrade said "under a year" call the manufacturer (Whirlpool), the manufacturer said, "You didn't buy it from us. Call the seller." And the seller says, "We only do 30 days and we don't have anything to do with SquareTrade." If you try to contact anyone but SquareTrade (like eBay, who sold the warranty, really), they don't want to know. So... You're back to SquareTrade. In short, SquareTrade sells quick and dirty warranties with NO intention of servicing them. If you read this and buy a SquareTrade warranty off eBay...well, it's your own fault.

    Hello Rod,

We're sorry for any misunderstanding regarding your warranty.

Squaretrade utilizes the manufacturer warranty for most products we cover, as this is allows our warranties to stay in place the maximum allowable length of time possible. Warranties like yours cover the item in repairs or replacements up to what you paid for the item, so issues which would be resolved by the manufacturer do not negate from your Squaretrade warranty.

However, Squaretrade also has several policies in place to help with your product should the manufacturer deny service or prove unreachable. Whenever this is the case you simply need to contact our claims center for additional assistance, with a reference number if available. Since the manufacturer has denied servicing your item we have sent additional details regarding your item resolution to the email on file.

We hope this proves to be a satisfactory method to address your concern. One of our specialists has also attempted to reach you, as we're eager to address your concerns.

Whenever I buy my kids cellphones, I purchase the SquareTrade protection from Walmart. I've always dealt with SquareTrade with Amazon orders also. As a matter of fact, we always buy the SquareTrade protection plan for all our electronics that we buy from Walmart. When I have family or friends who are buying phones, I always recommend it as well. My experience with SquareTrade has been really easy and I like it. I've never really had problems and if I have problems filing a claim online, I've always been able to talk to customer service.

With the first claim that I had, I didn’t have any issues. With the second one, we were having a little bit of a problem doing it online. But I called customer service and they approved it really quickly. So for the most part, I would use SquareTrade all the time and even now. This last time was the first time that I had any problems with it and I'm still waiting to hear back from them about that.

My kids broke their cellphones playing with their Christmas gift and we filed the two claims on the two phones. I always opt to get the Walmart gift card because whenever they break their phones, I just go and use the claim to replace the one they broke at Walmart and then just purchase the new warranty. This time, the claims went through and I got the email saying that the claims were approved and that I would receive the gift card via email within 24 hours. But that was almost a week and a half ago. When I contacted SquareTrade last week, they said that I should hear from them within one to two business days. But it was right before the weekend and I haven't heard anything. So I'm giving it until tomorrow before I call back. Still, this is the first experience that I've had that’s been off. So I will continue using SquareTrade until there's a major issue.

I'm a big fan of the protection plan for high-ticket items; the cost is offset by the peace of mind knowing that I can make sure I have a working device. It took three tries, and three weeks, to get them to send me a label. The website is buggy, and I can't even properly access my claim; initially I could access it enough to get to the "print label" screen, but that was a broken link, and now I can't even get there. Okay. Extremely frustrating. But I finally got the box and label (I actually finally got *2* boxes and labels, one right after the other), after "only" three weeks. I promptly sent in my item. Now, they say they take "up to" 5 days. While I'm assuming very very tiny fixes might be quicker, you should just assume it's 5 days. And you'll notice this was near 2 holidays, so of course: It's *business* days. So it took another two weeks to get back to me, well, 10 calendar days.

And after not having my device now for a month and a half I get it back and open the box and... the screen is cracked. The paperwork says they replaced the screen and, given the damage it had, I believe them, but whether it cracked again in the service center or on its way to me (though it's in an air-cushion-padded box, so I have a hard time understanding how that would happen without obvious external signs of damage), all I know is that after a month and a half I get to start over again, and be without my laptop for what will undoubtedly be *another* 2 weeks. At least there's not holidays this time, but I'm really struggling to see the real value here. The best was the chat, intended to save a phone call, whose only answer was "call the center".

I've had to do multiple chats, I've had to wait on hold for extended periods of time, only for agents to not really know *how* these screwups, that are all entirely on their end, could have *possibly* happened, but if I just jump through some more hoops, they're *sure* it'll all work out. The whole experience has been frustrating and a waste of my time. I question whether I would have been better off just holding onto the money I paid for the plan and putting it towards a new laptop if I have a problem, since generally I don't use these plans because I try to take care of my items. I'm sure when the bureaucracy goes smoothly, everything works out fine, but the peace of mind I thought I had is definitely not present.

They gave me a phone number of the manufacturer. When I tried to call, that number was not a valid number. Subsequently, I got charged for a two-year plan and didn’t use it because I had to return the hoverboard as nobody would honor the deal.

When I returned the hoverboard to Walmart where I purchased it, they said that it had been over 30 days. I was not entitled to get my money back for the warranty so I have a warranty on a product I no longer have. It's useless. If SquareTrade says that they put a protection plan on something, then they should honor it and give back to the person the item which they have the protection plan on. If there’s a manufacturer’s warranty on it, one shouldn’t have to purchase the protection plan at all. It’s misleading.

Also, the remote kept on moving the character forward by itself and when getting to settings, it would just keep on going forward or up. So I went online and made a claim with SquareTrade. It was an easy process. I put a brief description of what was wrong with the unit and from there, I got a return label and I shipped the Switch off. SquareTrade ended up putting new remotes on there. The headphone jack still doesn't work though, but I'm just gonna leave it like that. The whole process took two weeks, which was a good enough time to have the Switch fixed.

So I bought a Fitbit Charge 2 from Fitbit and made the mistake of buying a 2 year extended warranty for $29.99. My band ended up breaking and I called Fitbit. They told me to call this rip off company. I started the process of filing a claim and was told that there will be a $15 deductible placed on my card until I receive my placement. When I signed up for this extended warranty none of this was explained to me. So before you buy that extended warranty. Be forewarned it's not what it promised. It's a big rip off.

My tablet just stopped working. I had it plugged in every night and then the next morning, it wouldn't turn on. I filed a claim with SquareTrade and it was difficult. I had to make five phone calls and I had to be put on hold. And then they said that they would send me a link, and they sent the wrong link. The process took several days and several phone calls. They said they fixed my tablet and they sent it back, and it still didn't work. So, then I had to call again and then had to send it back out again. It was then like a three or four-week process. I used SquareTrade before and in the past, it had been fine. I've never had an issue with it before, but it was just this particular time. But other than that, their customer service was okay.

Called to file a claim. It took 3 days just to even initiate anything. Upon giving them the symptoms of my issue I was told that even though my TV blew up from the inside that the damage was considered physical damage and that they wouldn't honor my warranty. They also told me that they would rather reimburse my 100 dollar warranty than to even get a technician to come look at the problem. They said they could access the damage by simply looking at a picture of a blank screen without coming to see how my tv simply turns off and on for hours on end. The TV was over a year old and the manufacturer warranty was void but they asked me to call Vizio and see if they would fix the tv. These guys are lazy and incompetent. Save yourself the trouble because if anything goes wrong with your TV they will call it physical damage so they dont have to honor their warranty.

    Hello Chris,

We apologize that we were unable to approve your claim.

Squaretrade does our best to help all customers but we're limited to approving claims which correspond with your warranty coverage. In this instance Squaretrade denied your claim due to physical damage shown on the TV picture, which is often characterized by jagged and splintering cracks beneath the display. While we understand you're unsure how this damage could have occurred Squaretrade extensively trains our TV specialists to recognize various types of electronic failures, including physical damage to TVs.

Unfortunately none of our TV warranties cover this type of damage, due to this we have provided a full refund of the warranty purchasing price.

Squaretrade technicians can only repair issues which are duplicated at the time of repair, as this is required to determine the cause and solution of the item issue. If the behavior is intermittent Squaretrade does our best to accommodate, with methods such as requesting a video of the behavior.

My most recent experience with SquareTrade has told me never to work with them again. I purchased a plan to cover my Galaxy S2 9.7 Tablet. I was charged over $89 for the warranty because of the $399 value of my tablet. I had gift cards through Staples that I saved up to pay for most of it. So I only ended up paying about $115 for the tablet. I've been having nothing but issues with my tablet, charging issues, overheating issues, etc. So, I decided to use my warranty. However, come to find out, while SquareTrade will charge you for a warranty at the "value" of the item, they won't actually cover that value unless you pay for the whole thing out of pocket! So I basically paid $89 for a warranty worth $115!!! So, buyer beware, I won't be using them again.

I sent SquareTrade an iPad which had a cracked screen but it was still working. I was very hesitant on mailing it out because I haven’t sent in something but my warranty was getting ready to expire and so, I sent it to them. When it came back, the screen was fixed but when I powered it on, it was black and blue 5 inches from the top of the screen. I had to make another phone call. Inside the packaging, it was checked off by two people that this was in great, working order and it was packaged with a lot of bubble tape. I sent it back to them and when I got it back, it was worse. The screen might have been replaced but when I powered it on, there was nothing coming on and it was glitching on the screen.

I called again and Lonnie, the guy I spoke to, was helpful. He told me to mail it back to a particular place and they will send me back what I paid for that iPad. I mailed it and they said that once they see that it has been checked off by Federal Express, they will send me a check immediately which they did. That was great and I could get a brand-new one but it should not have happened in the first place. The guy took a wrong and he made it right. So, I’m giving him credit as far as what they did to compensate me on that. My wife had a little bit of a crack on the screen. I was out of warranty now, and it was the same thing. My wife really uses the iPad and I use it periodically so, I told her to let me send mine first and we would see how they do it. Even though it was out of warranty, the guy allowed me to send my wife’s iPad and they would repair it. They did a good job on resolving it, so I have to give them props on that.

I purchased the SquareTrade insurance a few days after I purchased my iPad from ABT. I like ABT and I ordered it from them. I have a guy who I personally deal with which was where I heard about SquareTrade. I searched it and the prices were a little bit different. It was a little bit cheaper for me to buy it outside of SquareTrade but I bought the three years and I paid for my iPad Apple Air $579. It was what they gave back to me. I used it for three years, and they gave me back my money. It was a good deal.

I purchased a power supply for my home pc 1/2018. The PSU worked fine up until 9/2018. Came home from work and pc wouldn’t power up. Weird, so I looked at the PSU to make sure it was getting juice and sure enough it wasn’t, had one here from an old pc and it powered right up. So I put in for the claim (which is the most painful thing to do online through the site), get to the final page just to tell me to contact manufacturer for warranty. Okay your site has all of the item’s information and would know that the manufacturer warranty was 90 days and isn’t eligible anymore.

I purchased this warranty for the lone fact that this item was not a name brand and it gave me a peace of mind knowing I had this to fall back on just in case. Well, long story short, just checked on my claim and says “claim closed”. Um hello, no it isn’t! I’m covered by your fine print for three years under this agreement, and now you will not honor it! I will review again once I speak with someone, but until then, I wouldn’t have given any stars! I would rather give my money to a drunk at the corner store than give to the corporate scum robbing me of my hard earned money!

Squaretrade utilizes the manufacturer warranty for all covered products during the first year, as this is the standard coverage period for most items across the board. If the manufacturer ever denies service or is unreachable Squaretrade can step in earlier, or if there's an issue with your item covered by our policy and not theirs.

Squaretrade does utilize the manufacturer warranty for all products we cover, though this policy is in place for several reasons which compliment your plan. Squaretrade can only provide a finite amount of resolutions for products we cover, but items which are serviced by the manufacturer do not effect your Squaretrade warranty. I got a warranty from SquareTrade. Someone accidentally stepped on my tablet so I sent it in for them to fix my screen. They fixed the screen but it wasn't completely attached and the side kept popping off. It wasn't a big deal. Then the tablet started freezing, the battery was overheating, and the screen was so weak it ended up cracking because of how poor it was installed on. I told the person on the phone all of this, AND wrote a long note that went into detail about each problem and put it with the tablet when I sent it.

They said they had received my note. The tablet came back with the screen fixed. The paper of the fix summary said they had only replaced the screen. And it still wasn't even on properly. None of the other issues were fixed when they were clearly stated twice. I called them and told them everything. They said they spent too much money fixing the tablet and that since their inspector said they fixed the issues that they were fixed (they were not). So they dropped me from the warranty and I'm left with a broken tablet that is now even worse then I started with. Don't ever buy their warranties, they are just trying to take your money.
