I try to get extended warranties on my electronics and I bought one for my vacuum cleaner from the store I purchased the vacuum from. I filed a claim with SquareTrade and they sent me an electronic Target card. I bought a new vacuum cleaner and I got a new SquareTrade warranty. I did the claim over the phone and the rep was excellent.

I called and the agent took my information and told me it would be a $50 fee and they would send me a new phone and I would then send them the old phone. I received my replacement phone in four days and after I jumped through many, many hoops had a Samsung authorized repair shop take the old phone and they were able to transfer my data to the new phone. For about 2½ days it was questionable whether or not I was going to be able to save the old phone's data. The young guys at Mr. Phix it saved my butt. I sent the old phone back this past Monday and assume it arrived. I thought the warranty process worked very well and I'm happy about the outcome.

Hi Tom,
We apologize we were unable to approve your recent claim.
Squaretrade TV warranties include extensive hardware coverage against hardware and electrical failures due to normal usage, our TV warranties do not include coverage against Accidental Protection. This has been the case for many years and we greatly apologize if you felt our plan was not clearly advertised, as this is something we strive to achieve. We also provide customers access to their warranties via our mobile app or website, where you can see additional details regarding your coverage.
We understand you felt this was not your experience. One of our specialists has tried to reach out to you to further discuss the situation. however, Though we've yet to gain contact with you we have sent you an email with a resolution on your plan.

I would recommend SquareTrade because they take care of their business and they respond fast. They appropriately accommodate me as they should. Nowadays, any electronic or electrical device that you purchase really doesn't last that long. Having an extended warranty is valuable. It appears that when they manufacture stuff now, it's not well-made. I purchased a tablet and the retailer offered SquareTrade. My tablet stopped working. It wouldn't boot up. So I sent it to SquareTrade for the repair, but they couldn't repair it.
I phoned the claim in and it wasn't difficult at all. And my interactions with the customer service team was good. They sent me a mailing label, and then I sent it in. In a couple days, they let me know what was going on. In the case of the tablet, they sent it back, and still, it wasn't repaired, so I sent it back to them. And then they let me know that they couldn't repair it. And so, they paid the cost of the device.
The only thingis when I sent it to them the first time, the device they sent back to me wasn't my device. It looked like part of it wasn't my device. It was a tablet and it had a keyboard. So the keyboard detached. But then when I got it back, the keyboard would not attach to the tablet. It didn't fit. I had no problem before because it's magnetic. When you put it in there, it just finds it right away. Also, the tablet didn't look like my device. It was the same product but it wasn't mine. That was confusing to me and was a problem. They weren't telling me they were sending something else. The communication was it was mine. Then when I sent it back, then they told me they could not repair it. Then I would have to be satisfied because they paid me for it.

Updated on 08/22/2019: When I filed a claim with SquareTrade, they asked me a bunch of dumb, diversionary questions, and tasked me with contacting the seller (even though the SquareTrade contract doesn't say they may give me tasks like that). Nonetheless, I answered all their questions, and went above and beyond my contractual responsibilities by contacting the seller. And then I never heard from SquareTrade again.
In this forum, a SquareTrade representative named "JR" said that if I email the information about my claim to reviews-at-squaretrade.com, "one of our specialists will investigate the situation and follow up with you directly." I did that on August 10, and no one has followed up with me. It looks like SquareTrade is once again trying to get out of honoring the Protection Plan I purchased. JR -- if you get back to me again, PLEASE do not speak of a manufacturer's warranty. According to the seller, the manufacturer's name is "Genrt" and I have made clear to SquareTrade so many times, that "Genrt" does NOT offer a warranty!
Original Review: It's nice to see that SquareTrade is responding to customers in this forum. Hopefully they will respond to me, because I sure didn't have any luck getting them to respond in normal channels. When I purchased a set of water filters that install in my Frigidaire refrigerator, SquareTrade offered a protection plan, and I accepted SquareTrade's offer. My SquareTrade plan number is **. Immediately after I installed it, the filter started leaking water all over the food in my refrigerator. All of the filters in this set, in fact, had this defect.
I contacted the seller, who did not offer a warranty, would not give a refund, and would not provide any support other than telling me "if you reinstall the O-rings that came with the old filter, it will solve your problem." (Essentially, the seller was admitting that the O-rings supplied with the new filters were faulty. Unfortunately, when I threw away the old filter, the old O-rings were thrown away with it. So that was not a solution.) So, time to file a claim with SquareTrade.
Although the filter was compatible with Frigidaire refrigerators, the filter itself was not manufactured by Frigidaire. In the item description, the eBay seller stated "Brand: Genrt." Surely SquareTrade knew that when they decided to offer a protection plan on this filter. (Maybe not? Maybe SquareTrade offers protection plans on everything in sight, without first doing due diligence on whether the item was made by a reputable manufacturer?) But I stated the brand, "Genrt," when I filed the claim with SquareTrade. (I now suspect that "Genrt" was the seller's misspelled way of abbreviating "Generic.")
It's almost certain that the manufacturer did not offer a warranty. If they had, surely the eBay listing would have said so. Instead of replacing the faulty water filter, "SquareTrade Care Specialist Jason" emailed me, and asked me to contact the seller a second time, and ask the seller how to contact the manufacturer, and then contact the manufacturer and ask if they offered a warranty. Now, I looked over my SquareTrade contract, and nowhere did it say that SquareTrade may assign annoying tasks to me, such as contacting the seller AGAIN to see if I could go on a wild goose chase about the nonexistent manufacturer's warranty on my "Genrt"-brand water filters. "Genrt" did not even have a web site (I had googled them).
Nonetheless, I went above and beyond my contractual responsibilities, and did as Jason asked: I contacted the seller. I gave the seller a week to get back to me, and they never did. I let Jason know that. I also provided him with the URL of the eBay item description, so he could see for himself that the brand is "Genrt," and that no warranty was offered. Guess what SquareTrade did next? "SquareTrade Care Specialist Jonah" emailed me and directed me to "Try getting in touch with the manufacturer on: Frigidaire 1 (800) 374-4432". How frustrating, after I had made clear more than once that Frigidaire was NOT the manufacturer of the defective water filters.
I replied to Jonah and provided additional evidence that Frigidaire was not the manufacturer – including URLs that show the visual difference between genuine Frigidaire filters, and the "Genrt" filters for which SquareTrade had chosen to sell a protection plan. Guess what SquareTrade did next, after I had answered all of SquareTrade's silly, diversionary questions and after I had gone above and beyond my contractual responsibilities? Absolutely nothing. I never heard from SquareTrade again. (If you respond to me in this forum, SquareTrade, I have now replaced the Frigidaire with a different brand of refrigerator, so please do not send me Frigidaire-compatible filters. Reimbursing the cost of the faulty filters would be the right thing to do.)

I bought their 5-year protection plan for a nice 65" Samsung TV I got from Costco in Nov. 2016. I recently noticed some screen issues so I opened a claim in July 2019. SquareTrade quickly determined the TV wasn’t reparable, and approved the claim; that was the easy part. They then tried to force me to accept a cheap replacement, limiting me to a choice of 2 options (both Samsung) that cost substantially less than my TV. Their website FAQ said that these were my only options—I couldn’t choose another model of at the same price, or at a higher price and pay the difference. I also couldn’t buy any protection plan for the replacement—it would just be covered under the remaining term of my current plan, up to my plan limit. My plan limit is the cost of my original TV purchase price less the cost of any replacement—so basically, very limited coverage for a shorter period of time.
This was actually contrary to the written terms of the plan, which I fortunately kept and could find over 2.5 years later. I’m also a lawyer, so I know how to navigate a contract. My plan entitled me to a cash refund of my original purchase price if SquareTrade couldn’t or didn’t want to repair my TV. I could also opt for a replacement TV, but only at my request and upon my option. I was not required to accept a replacement TV, let alone one of SquareTrade’s choosing. Obviously, when ST offers me 2 cheap replacement options without the ability to get a full protection plan on it, a full cash refund is much better. Even if I liked the options they provided, I could take buy it myself, plus a full protection plan, and pocket the difference.
When I called ST to tell them I didn’t like their options and wanted the cash refund instead, they told me they couldn’t provide it because they had identified at least one TV with similar or better specs. When I pointed out that that is contrary to the written terms of my plan, they seemingly did not care. It sounds like they had changed the terms of the newer plans to require you to accept a replacement, so that’s what the company reps went by—even though my plan (and countless other Costco customers who bought the plan between 2014 and 2017) did not have this purported new language in it.
I had to send them a copy of their own contract (because they apparently didn’t have a copy), and spend a couple hours arguing with them about the terms of their plan to finally get them to honor their legally enforceable contractual obligations. The supervisor who finally acceded to my request described it a “one-time exception” to keep me happy, and said the terms of my plan were outdated, confusing, and an error that needed to be looked into and corrected. Pro tip: Abiding by the terms of a valid contract is not a special exception or favor—it’s a legal obligation. A party cannot unilaterally change the terms of the contract, let alone without notice to or consent by the other party.
Clearly, SquareTrade is trying to mislead and short-change its customers to pocket more money than it’s entitled to. By the way, I bought a second ST plan on a new TV in late November 2017 with the same terms and conditions. That plan will be in effect until November 2022. So this version of the plan is not that old, and was being issued at least as recently as 20 months ago, and will be in force for another 3+ years. But ST seems to think these plans are ancient and no longer in effect. And they are quite willing to mislead and pressure customers into accepting a much worse deal than what they’re entitled to under the terms of their plan. ST is literally banking on the hope that people won’t keep a copy of their plan, and won’t bother to read it when opening and resolving a claim.
Don’t buy it. Don’t buy their BS if you currently have their plan and are being told to choose a crappy replacement TV. And don’t buy their plan if you can avoid it. I found the experience appallingly bad and deeply disappointing. I will say the reps I spoke with were all nice and courteous. But the company seems to have very shady business practices. It shouldn’t require a law degree and 2 hours of arguing over plain and clear contract language to get a company to abide by the terms of the contract that they themselves wrote. I don’t understand how they have an A+ rating from this website.
ST also won’t haul away your old defective TV. You have to dispose of it yourself. In contrast, I had a great experience with a Geek Squad warranty on a TV I got from Best Buy a few years ago. They were super nice, efficient, and easy to deal with, upheld their end of the contract without any pushback, and picked up my old TV. If you’re looking to get a new TV and the only warranty plan option available is through SquareTrade, pick a different TV or store. For what it’s worth, Costco is no longer selling ST plans on Samsung TVs (at least as of July/August 2019), and has worked out a deal with Samsung to offer an extended 5-year manufacturer warranty at no extra cost (not sure if they’re still offering ST on other TVs).

Had them on the phone - I would have gladly give permission for my old phone shipped & etc - yes it was a third party - BUT I WAS THERE WITH MY OLD PHONE that needed replacement.
They could have sent a email crediting me for a new phone there so I would have been able to have my new phone - instead of all this jumping through hoops/etc & being out of a phone for a week missing important calls etc. :( So no I'm not happy - most cases this is the only way of communication - & internet - inconveniencing (sorry spelled wrong) me & thank God my phone service freezed my account so I'm not paying for services I CAN USE.

During the past four days I have been trying to get my television repaired with “no” satisfaction in dealing with my warranty with SquareTrade. I have spent over four plus hours dealing with representatives and technicians from SquareTrade who have either cut me off or dropped my calls and who have provided no assistance in resolving my issue. Only through a conversation with a Samsung technician, which was arranged through a SquareTrade technician, that I finally received I satisfactory resolution to my problem. The agent from Samsung agreed to have a technician come to my house to repair our TV, which is something that the various technicians who I spoke to from SquareTrade refused to do. In fact the SquareTrade technician who agreed to stay on the phone with me during my call with Samsung did not stay on the line and never heard what the Samsung technician had to say about what would be needed to repair my television.
It appears to me that Square Trade representatives and technicians are trained in how to take customers to the “breaking point” versus trying to quickly resolve their issues. I purchased my television from COSTCO, which is a company that I have always respected for how they stand behind their brand and their products. However, in this case I believe COSTCO did not help me as a valued customer in how I was treated by SquareTrade. The next time that I purchase an extended warranty it will not be with SquareTrade.
I do want to express my appreciation to Samsung in how they assisted in handling my problem and I will definitely be purchasing Samsung products in the future. For me this has been a very frustrating experience in dealing with SquareTrade and COSTCO and one that I would not wish on anyone else. Finally, I would suggest that SquareTrade needs to look at their customer service systems and procedures because they certainly need to be fixed.
We can certainly understand your frustration. We definitely want to apologize for your experience. We aim to make the claim process hassle-free and always want to provide an immediate resolution to our customers. We understand you felt the experience was not as expected.
We have reviewed your account and we have issued you a full warranty refund.
As a warranty overview, the policy covering your product is a Standard plan, which protects against hardware and electrical failures due to normal usage. Unfortunately, this plan does not cover against software issues that include updates that the manufacturer provides and any issues that they may cause to your device.Once again we apologize for the inconvenience.

I like SquareTrade because it's easy and simple to work with. They tell me what they need from me, I give them information and it seems that in a snap of my fingers, it's done. The only thing that they ask for is the original purchase number from eBay and the proof of purchase for the part and item. eBay keeps track of everything so if I go in my purchase history, all I gotta do is screenshot and email it to SquareTrade. I don't have to play games and figure out who I need to call to figure something out.
We have a side-by-side and when we are driving it in the field, they tend to snap. I filed a claim for a CV axle on it. I purchased a 55" Vizio TV for $600 two years ago and the screen has started blinking on and off. I contacted Squaretrade and they promptly got a repairperson out. That is where anything resembling good customer service stopped. It could not be fixed and the repair guy advised them of that. Since then I have been given the run-around and am getting pretty pissed off. They said they would send a link with "OPTIONS" but there was only one, which was half the price of my original TV and an off brand. I called and was told to wait longer for more options, which never came. So I called again and got an attitude from someone I could barely understand. After I advised him of the differences in my current tv and the proposed replacement, he said they would do a manual review. After another day of checking the live link for more options, finally another one appeared.
It was a more comparable Samsung. However, when I returned to the live link 30 mins later to order the Samsung it was gone. I feel like they are messing with me at this point. I chatted with someone online to discuss and was again told they couldn't do anything and that I needed to call and talk to their rude customer service. Can't wait. So after a week and a half all I have is them offering me a crap TV and a lot of frustration. I will never use them again for anything. I would rather just buy a new TV in the future. Terrible experience.

In this case when it was determined that repair was insufficient to service your product we migrated the claim to replacement. They give vague answers to questions and kept referring to the “back office” who makes the decisions but I can’t speak with them but they unfortunately are the only ones with anything but vague answers. They also do not prioritize some appliances over others. Apparently a broken dishwasher is the same as a broken refrigerator. Think twice before buying.

They tried to give me a number for somebody they thought could fix it. They were a manufacturer in Tennessee of their own equipment. SquareTrade realized that I wasn't fribbling and we went ahead and took care of it.
SquareTrade ended up issuing me an e-gift card for Walmart where I purchased the product for the amount that I purchased it for. But I did something wrong on the little thing that I have to electronically sign so sending me the e-gift card took three days. But once I did my part right, it only took 30 minutes. I connected the earphones to the charger and they burned. I filed a claim with SquareTrade and their claims representatives were really good but they were asking about the receipt. I registered with my insurance and I threw away the receipt. It was a long time ago when I purchased it and I thought, “Oh, I'm not gonna need this anymore because it's in my insurance." When I registered the earphones with the insurance, they asked for the email, receipt number, and telephone number. And they couldn't replace the earphones for me because of the receipt which I could not understand because it's already registered. I called Walmart and tried to get a copy of the receipt, but they said they just save receipts for 90 days.

I purchased a new phone and despite declining the insurance program (SquareTrade, an Allstate company, which charges you 10.99 a month to "protect" your phone after a $129 deductible per claim), I was told I could not purchase the phone without the SquareTrade policy. But I was assured I could easily call and cancel it. I tried to cancel it two days after purchase by calling the number listed on the brochure (1-877-927-7268). I was lead through prompts (#3 = all other calls, #3 to cancel) but each time I tried to cancel, I was told, "Sorry, I didn't get that." After 3 attempts, the line disconnects with a, "Please try your call again later." I tried my call three times. So I had bought a Samsung S8+ (completely unlocked so I could choose my service freely) shortly after it came out and paid about $200 extra for a SquareTrade warranty on it. It was a great phone for about 1 year and 9 months but all good things must come to an end. When the battery started crapping out and the screen had been broken on two edges, I finally decided it's time to file a claim. I did so and chose the "replacement device" option in which they send you a "new-ish" device to replace your old, broken one. They charged me a $75 deductible, which was fine, and sent me a phone. The phone was a Verizon locked S8+ so I couldn't use it at all on my AT&T network. Okay then, so they made a mistake no biggy. I called them up and they sent me another phone. This time it was a T-Mobile phone which can actually run on AT&T's bandwidth. Cool right? No. So here is the catch, or rather the list.
2nd. I get Google Ads after EVERY. SINGLE. PHONE. CALL. This is a BIG deal to me because I have already paid for the phone and I've already paid for the service. In what way is it justifiable to cram advertisements down my throat while using the phone for it's most basic function??? This is unacceptable.
3rd. This is a big one too. I can NOT use Wifi-Hotspot. It will connect to the device but simply won't provide the device with internet access. As a young academic, I need this function regularly to use my laptop.
All of the above are completely unacceptable. I'd much rather have saved the $275 that I gave to SquareTrade and used to purchase a decent friggin' replacement phone. If you're considering a warranty through them, save your money. They're just going to screw you over. Lesson learned.

I purchased in 2017 a Samsung 65" 4K TV that had one year Samsung warranty, Costco doubled that, and then this Square Trade policy added 3 years which meant I had 5 years warranty. Just last week I noticed a small 4-5 inch white light appearing below the glass and moves up toward the center. The picture is fine but this white line is annoying. There is no crack in the glass and the TV has not been moved since we installed it in 2017. There are no kids here. There are no throwing things in the house. We're two old 65 year olds that sit in chairs and watch TV!
I called Samsung and they ran tests and said the panel has failed. The said call the extended warranty folks. I filed a claim with SquareTrade on 7/21 and submitted three pictures. On 7/22, they denied the claim saying this was physical damage to the screen! There is no damage to the glass screen. The light comes from below not through any crack. This company is a scam for big ticket items, no doubt in my book. I'm just starting to write Costco and the CEO of SquareTrade. Others to follow until I get resolution.

This past weekend the unit overheated and almost caught on fire while charging. I called them, waited on hold for 30 minutes to be told I have to ship it back to be "repaired" again. When I explained it wasn't properly repaired the first time we sent it back, I got the same response.
I asked to speak with a supervisor, and he called me back to give me the same speech. I asked to be sent a refurbished unit, one that may not catch on fire! I got a warranty for protection because things can go wrong with cellphones. I've had to file three claims with SquareTrade and two out of the three, they have resolved swiftly and great. But the latest one was a horrific experience. It's still unresolved and I'm ready to switch my phone. My power button on my cellphone doesn't work, and supposedly, I need to do a factory reset, which would clear everything off. And I didn't think that was the proper solution. First of all, it wasn't a, "This will resolve the issue," it's "Let's try this," and so I appreciate them trying to save the $80 deductible. But I think it's a hardware issue and not a software issue. I could be wrong too.
I have to do a factory reset in order to resolve it and see if that works. And if it doesn't, then I have to call back and figure out how to get this phone fixed or get a new one. I kept wanting to talk to the supervisor because the representative was coming back with this information saying, "We're not gonna run the $80. We really think this is the best solution for you." But I wanted to get the verification from the supervisor and discuss my options, and he never transferred. Two different people said they had tried in vain for 2 days to contact him. "Maybe he's having personal problems. We only have one man in your area." LAME. So I was irate with USSI and especially SquareTrade (all of whom had honestly tried to help me) and told Costco that, while it was not directly their fault, I held them responsible and vowed never to deal with them again.
Within a day or two, I was offered a new TV or refund of my purchase price. I was flabbergasted. I had NO INTENT of raising such a stink that Costco or SquareTrade would give me a new TV. In fact, I'm kind of embarrassed by it. But I'll take it!!! It was more than fair treatment. Far more. So in the end, I'm delighted. But seriously, there has to be better communication between SquareTrade and USSI. In fact, so bad was USSI (and, in the end, NOT SquareTrade) that I'd consider finding a different servicing company if I were you. The phone was shipped and received on 24 May 2019. When 3 weeks passed I contacted SquareTrade and again had to experience multiple transfers and phone holds. When I finally spoke with someone, there were apologies and assurance that the check would be issued and received in approximately 10 days. When no check was received I again called (after having to search and phone a phone number since none is listed on "Contact Us") was transferred at least 4 times, on hold for over an hour, and each time had to repeat the information. When I spoke with someone, I was told they would investigate and get back with me. At some point I asked to speak with a supervisor who apologized and promised that a check would be issued. In the last 7-10 days I did receive a call from a very pleasant individual who promised to investigate, would call me back, and that the check would be forthcoming.
As of today (16 May 2019) I have not received the check! While I am still hopeful that a check will arrive (and if it does I will update this review), my plan is to somehow contact the parent company (All State) as well as exploring other options such as formal complaints with the Better Business Bureau. I fully understand that things happen but next week (22-26 May 2019) will be two months! The process of reaching someone in hopes of rectifying the situations, receiving return phone calls, etc. is, in my opinion, unacceptable. Personally, I will never consider purchasing a SquareTrade warranty of any type, and am now will to pay more for coverage provided the the mobile provider.

My daughter is a teenager and they go through life damaging things. So, the warranty that SquareTrade offered was the best. It was to have protection and I got a warranty through the store where I purchased the device from. Something happened to the Xbox and I took it to the shop. The guy told me that he could not fix it. So, I can upgrade it, he would give me credit and all I have to come out-of-pocket is 160-something which was why I filed the claim. SquareTrade said that something was going on with the receipt and I had to call the people to get a better receipt. Filing a claim with them was difficult. Having an extended warranty is very valuable but it depends on who you get the warranty through and how able I am to be assisted in a better way. Aside from the Xbox, I also have a couple of other items I purchased the warranty for, including an iPad Pro.

I can't believe I have read so many good reviews about SquareTrade. Six months ago I purchased a new $1400 laptop from Best Buy and as one usually does after purchasing an expensive computer I bought an extended warranty to protect my purchase against accidents. After looking at the prices of the Best Buy warranty vs. SquareTrade's, I decided to purchase the warranty from SquareTrade. The rub is that I decided to purchase the SquareTrade warranty on Amazon because it was much cheaper than buying directly through the SquareTrade website. So I purchased the warranty, uploaded my Best Buy receipt to the website, and enjoyed the peace of mind knowing my new expensive laptop was protected from drops and spills.
Lo and behold, 6 months later I spill a drink all over my laptop and it shuts down and won't power on again. I panic but quickly remember I had a warranty that specifically protected against spills. So I file a claim online and receive an email telling me to call Squaretrade because they need more information. When I call I am told that my warranty is void because I purchased it through Amazon after Buying my laptop from Best Buy.
I will concede that I may have missed some fine print somewhere saying that you could only buy the warranty from the same store you purchased the device from or the SquareTrade website. But could no one have told me that after I purchased the warranty from Amazon and uploaded the Best Buy receipt? I'm really only particularly angry that I wasn't told about this mistake when I purchased the warranty and could have had a chance to buy a Best Buy warranty instead. SquareTrade was perfectly happy to take my money knowing any claim I filed would be rejected. I really wasn't planning on having to buy a new laptop anytime soon. I'm not really sure what I'm going to do. If anyone at SquareTrade reads this, my claim ID # is **. I would really appreciate some help.
Hello Jacob,
We apologize we are unable to honor this warranty.
Squaretrade sells our warranties directly and through our partners, as we want to offer a wide variety of plans and ascertain as many customers as possible. Warranties offered at our partners, such as Amazon, are intended for products purchased at that location. If the location where you purchased your item does not offer our plan you can reach us to directly provide coverage, as we usually have a wide variety of plans to offer.
Squaretrade does our best to properly advertise our plans and to provide constant customer support to assist with your purchase. Our website contains a lot of useful information in our help section and we also offer chat or phone support to answer any questions you might have about buying our plans.
Unfortunately we are unable to honor this plan due to the method in which it was purchased, of which we again apologize for. We have processed a full refund which will arrive to you within 3-5 business days and we appreciate bringing this concern to our attention.

I got a SquareTrade plan for a laptop through Costco. We purchased it online so we just got the protection plan. It was a little bit easy to file the claim when the keyboard quit. But there was a misunderstanding either on our part or theirs. How it went was that the laptop came with a year warranty then our credit card from Costco gives us another year of warranty. On top of that, we bought a three-year warranty so that’s a total of five years. But when I first went to make the claim, they tried to tell me that the three-year warranty was concurrent with the manufacturer's and my credit card's. Why would somebody buy double insurance for the same time? But SquareTrade made it right. They extended the warranty so it’s active until August. I don't know the exact status of the laptop yet. I’m not sure if it’s being refurbished. But they said they would email something. I’m glad I have a recourse and I'd recommend them.

I’ve gotten a lot of things through Amazon with SquareTrade. Everything I buy, I buy a warranty on. When I filed a claim to SquareTrade for a set of headphones, they tried to lowball me on it by offering me a prorated price which wasn’t the reason I bought the policy, the policy for the replacement price and for what I paid for it. They gave me a gift card for the prorated price, and then mailed me a check for the other $13. But it ended up fine. I love extended warranties. I always recommend it to friends, but they have to watch out when they try to file a claim because SquareTrade will try and lowball them.

I filed a claim for my broken Samsung tablet and SquareTrade rep, Pam, said I can only get reimbursed for my purchase price of $99 which was a promotional rate with 24 month subscription contract of $10 a month. I purchased a protection plan for $249 coverage for 3 years and I paid $59 plus $50 deductible. I selected the amount of coverage which was the regular price of my tablet in case I need to replace it. Their warranty policy stated that for replacement, they will reimburse not to exceed maximum amount of coverage. SquareTrade says they can only reimburse me $99 minus $50 deductible. If that is the case I will be paying $109 for $99 coverage which is insane.
I said I purchased a protection plan that will cover the cost of a new replacement for my Tablet. I didn't purchase a plan to cover the promotional amount that I paid for. What if I bought that tablet at a regular price of $249 and purchase a protection plan for $99? Will they reimburse me the purchase amount of $249 or the coverage amount of $99. Somehow SquareTrade has changed. I have been with them without any issues, now they were trying their best to avoid paying, considering they have violate their Warranty Policy agreements as listed under "Limit of Liability" that they would reimburse "not to exceed the COVERAGE amount."
We're sorry to hear about this situation. Our warranties typically cover up to the amount paid for the device. However, I'm happy to see that we were able to get everything resolved for you in regards to this claim. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us!

I bought a Samsung 70 inch tv from Samsung and also purchased the SquareTrade extended warranty. Approximately 2 years after purchase the tv picture started to be a problem. We had been watching tv and it was fine, went into other room for something and when we returned the picture was not functional although audio was. I contacted SquareTrade the next day sending and resending pictures of receipt. Each time I called they would say that one of required items was too blurry to see. After a week of taking pictures and resending I was finally told my warranty did exist. Had they only look at the original email they had sent when the warranty was purchased they could have easily seen this without a week of back and forth.
Finally I was allowed to talk to tv tech that put me through a series of actions. From this she determined what parts to send. Once received I needed to make an appointment with a local tech in NY even though repair company United Service Source Inc. Tentative appt was July 3rd but even with repeated calls tech did not come until July 8th. When he arrived he took pictures of the tv screen. It was still doing the white lines across screen. He said this was not his usual job but was asked to do because no one else in area. He had trouble removing back of tv and had to make call for info. He tried each of the 3 parts that were sent and they did not fix problem but left tv totally without any lines or picture. While doing this he was upset that he had somehow cracked the screen and said that tv would be replaced or money sent.
He took more pictures and fill out a form. It said that there was NO physical damaged when he arrived and asked me to sign it. What a fool! I should have made a copy. Within hours SquareTrade contacted me and stated the cracked screen was physical damage and not covered. YES DAMAGE DONE BY THEIR TECH WHILE INSTALLING PARTS THAT DID NOT WORK!!! I replied to their denial of claim this morning and somehow they have not had time to respond to my rebuttal. Will I ever hear???? I just don't feel that "YOU ARE IN GOOD HANDS WITH ALLSTATE."
Hi Sharon,

I made a claim for a Surface Pro 4 with a broken screen and was sent a replacement automatically (without my agreement) after about a week. The replacement that arrived had less RAM than the original and an inferior screen which had a slightly yellowish cast to it. I was leaving on a business trip for a couple weeks and made use of the replacement on that trip. Shortly after returning the screen also began to flicker and display ghosting. I returned the replacement tablet and spoke with a representative who said that I would receive a reimbursement instead which is what I desired after the first replacement broke within days. I did not trust their repair depot would send me a replacement in good condition.
It is now two weeks after I received an e-mail from SquareTrade saying they had received the second tablet I sent back, and I had not heard anything further despite assurances the reimbursement should take a matter of days, a business week at max. I called them and all they were able to tell me is that they would contact the depot handling the replacement and that I should be receiving a replacement from them and not a reimbursement as promised.
I use my computer for work and have now been without for a substantial amount of time. We will see what happens, but my next step is going to be to contact a consumer rights attorney. Don't waste your money on SquareTrade. Their repairs are outsourced. Have gotten too big to even keep track of your electronics. All they will do is blame someone else for their bad customer service.
Hi Fred,
We're sorry to hear about this inconvenience with your replacement device. I am currently running an investigation on your claim to see what the status on the repair is so that we can properly assess the case.
In addition to this investigation, I will also provide you with a full refund on the warranty because I completely understand why this situation can be frustrating. The check of $99.99 will be processed within one business day and does not affect your repair at all, your warranty will still continue as usual.

I called and explained at the time I did not know I had an Apple account so SquareTrade said no problem, had me send it again. Again 2 weeks later they sent it back and had not looked at it. Several years ago, we had good experiences with SquareTrade. We began regular customers, purchasing warranties for many of our electronics, including all our Kindles (we have 6, though some are now older and out of warranty). About 2 years ago, the customer service began to go downhill. When I call to file a claim, they can't find my device or they can't find the warranty or they can't "bind" the warranty to the device. The worst has been with the Kindles, which tend to break frequently. I spend hours on the phone each time.
The last time, I ended up simply cancelling 2 plans and getting refunds (which I used towards a replacement device) since they could not figure it out. Today I'm calling about a different Kindle, and find out I can't use the warranty for this device because during my last claim someone mistakenly bound this warranty to the other Kindle and they don't seem to know how to fix that. I'm writing this review while on hold.
SquareTrade ought to have a computer system that allows them to pull up a list of all my warranties and devices. It should match up the devices to the warranty and keep a record of all claims. It should not be possible to bind a warranty purchased in 2017 to a Kindle purchased in 2016 - what led to this problem. I shouldn't have to be reading warranty plan IDs, Amazon invoice numbers, device serial numbers from previously replaced devices, etc. over the phone. This information should already be in the computer system - if I can look it up from my Amazon account, SquareTrade should already have it.
Their phone system is also terrible. Every time I call, I get transferred multiple times and put on hold forever. Each time I'm transferred, I have to provide answers to the same identifying information and explain my problem, which device I'm trying to file a claim on, etc. all over again. This information should be recorded in a call log at the start of the call, and transferred with me. In the future, I will buy warranties somewhere else. You have lost a customer, SquareTrade. The only question left is whether you will honor my remaining warranties or I should just cancel those and be done with you. Does this seem like a long review? Yup, I'm still on hold.
Hi Elizabeth,
We definitely apologize for any inconveniences caused. I was able to take a look into your account and I can see why you would be frustrated. Amazon devices purchased through Amazon are usually serviced by a specialized team, as compared to directly by Squaretrade. We will be extensively reviewing your claim experience with this team to see how we can improve.
I'm glad that I was able to get you on the phone and find a satisfactory resolution for you. We appreciate you taking the time to bring this to our attention so that we can handle this appropriately.

We bought Bose wireless earbuds for our 19 year old son in October of 2017 for Christmas. We also purchased the SquareTrade 3 year warranty. He used them regularly at the gym and while riding his bike. Unfortunately the right earbud stopped working and the control plate came off during a bike ride and was lost. We have purchase Square Trade warranties in the past. It provided us with 'peace of mind' when making high value electronic purchases. We have been lucky and have never had to file a claim.
We thought covering this item would be a good idea. We were surprised when our claim was denied. They stated that there was physical damage. The only physical thing that was wrong with this device was that the face plate had fallen off. This was explained when we submitted the claim. Not only did they deny the claim, they want to refund the cost of the warranty. This was unsolicited. Obviously, they know they are wrong and this claim is justified.

I have been working for over 6 weeks on a claim that should have been a process that takes less than a week. Some background... I have a Galaxy S9 in Sunset Gold. I used the company to fix a shattered screen. They sent me to their only "approved" vendor in the area, who put a black screen/frame on my gold phone. Now, trying to get this fixed... I called and explained that I now have no resale or trade-in value for my phone because my phone's frame no longer matches the back color. They claim that they are resolving this issue and will be sending me a replacement. They tell me they will call me back within 24 hours to complete the process, as the issue must be "reviewed and handled by the supervisor." However, they assure me it will all be taken care of.
So, for the last 6 weeks I have called every few days and I am told the same thing. I have even gotten emails telling me that my new phone has shipped... However when I call they assure me that no phone has yet shipped. Honestly, aside from 24 hour phone support, I have nothing good to say about this company and their phone insurance. At this point, I've really just been ripped off. If you're deciding where to get phone insurance, go to a bigger name place where you can rest assured that you're in good care and that you will get what you pay for.

Do NOT waste your money on a Square Trade protection plan. I purchased a plan when I bought my Apple Watch through Samsclub.com. Square Trade does not specify what is covered in the plan when you purchase it. They neglect to tell you that accidental damage is not covered -- until you try to file a claim. Then they tell you that your product is not covered. Why purchase insurance that is not going to cover accidental damage? They purposely don't tell you that accidental damage isn't covered so that they can take your money and then not provide protection for your product. Square Trade is a BAD INVESTMENT! I would have given Square Trade a 0 star rating, but that wasn't an option.

He came on the 18th and was here 5 mins and it was still not working and he was called and never came back. We had it fixed. He acted like he didn't want to do anything. Instead we had three emails back and forth and The Fix wasn't very happy send the receipts again.

I was very satisfied with the turnaround time to repair the broken screen on my Samsung Galaxy Note 9. I was also happy with the repair up until yesterday, when I noticed a bright white spot beginning to return on my screen. Although I am still within the 30 day guarantee on SquareTrade repairs, I'm hesitant to send the phone back to them. I put a high-quality screen protector on my phone, which was pretty expensive. I would have to remove it to send the phone to SquareTrade.
ALSO, and this is the main reason for not sending the phone back--I have no guarantee that SquareTrade won't replace this one with a refurbished phone that may not even be the same make and model, just a comparable phone. I want this one back, because I know how well I've taken care of it, plus I want THIS make and model of phone. In the future I will not buy SquareTrade insurance because of this replacement policy. If I buy insurance, it will be insurance that either repairs the phone that I have and guarantees those repairs longer than 30 days, OR replaces the phone with a new one of the same make and model if the original phone can't be repaired.
Hello Joni,
We apologize for any difficulty with your recent repair.
Squaretrade extensively diagnoses the hardware of all items our technicians repair at our mail-in center, this helps us ensure the repair has been completed and your device is experiencing no additional issues. If your device returns with any kind of failure we do provide our 30 day rework period, which as you mentioned is in place to guarantee the repair quality of your claim.
If your device is still experiencing issues please contact us at your earliest convenience so we can have these concerns addressed. If Squaretrade technicians are unable to repair your phone we will migrate your claim to a different resolution, such as replacement or reimbursement.
We understand you're concerned with our replacements but Squaretrade always does our best to provide the same model of device. If we're not able to source the exact replacement we work to provide a replacement that is comparable or technically superior compared to your original product. Updated on 07/03/2019: I do not know why my reply cannot be public. So I am writing a new complaint against SquareTrade because I want it public. I received a response that did not accept failure within ST. I don't expect to change anything with ST. What I do expect to do is have a voice with Costco and to let them know everything that has happened. The company that you set up a repair appoint is almost a 3 hour drive from my home. From a so called appointment for Friday which was confirmed with Tyese, which was not confirmed with a specific time frame. So I called, was told I didn't have an appointment, got yelled at from the pregnant lady who told me that the woman who made an appointment for me had no business doing the scheduling.
However, this other woman... drove the pregnant woman to the hospital so one would think she would be kind to this woman whose name is Tyese???? It was as if I had to hear too many personal issues within a repair appliance company that absolutely handles themselves inappropriately. PG Mechanical in Hesperia. I also was told by the pregnant woman that they have constantly told ST not to put appointment dates on emails to customers because ST does not do their scheduling for repair appointments...and they repeatedly tell you this.
I just got off the phone with Angelica from ST. I sent her an email and she called me right back. So thank heaven for Angelica. The only person within ST that does her job. I gave her a detailed story of what transpired with the repair company. You can listen to the tape as she advised me that our conversation was recorded, and I said "Great and I only hope executive at ST listen to it!" Of course, it won't be because ST is in the business of delaying repairs and making it more difficult to get a claim approved or acted upon. It should not be this difficult. You need to take a day off from work and maybe some more days... for someone to set up an appointment. If ST is going to respond, they please don't pull out a generic response. Respond to the numerous problems that occurred. Especially with Peter who hangs up on you so he doesn't have to set up an appointment.
Original Review: Two years ago, I purchased 2 warranties from Costco for my washer and dryer from SquareTrade. I have a problem with my dryer door. From 8am in the morning and it is almost 1pm, I have yet to get an appointment. I called Costco Concierge and even they had to get back to work. ** from the Appliance Area hung up and never called back nor followed through. **, a supervisor from claims had me on hold. And finally when he said he had a supervisor he was lost in space.
Take the week off from work because you will need it. Don't forget to shower before you call because you will be on hold and be disconnected for a long time. Costco Executives should really re-evaluate their relationship with SquareTrade. SquareTrade needed everything including video of the defected appliance. SquareTrade is so disorganized. I don't see how Costco can continue a relationship. A 2 year, 1 month old appliance. I said I would rather go through breast cancer than deal with SquareTrade and I mean it. Costco, open your eyes. Dump SquareTrade.
To name some of the SquareTrade Workers I have spoken to today. **, ** (who should be fired), **, **(supervisor-on hold indefinitely with this guy even when he says he has someone who can help me), **(supervisor) - she got the video and still waiting. Employee list to be continued. Do you really think the SquareTrade Warranty is worth the paper it is written on. Nope... It isn't.

This company is not good and I will never use them again. I purchased a 3-year warranty on my waterproof device and while I was in the shower the faceplate on my device popped off and water got inside and this company refused to repair. They told me my device was not water proof and they do not cover water damage. He told me they do not cover accidental damage and I explained this was not accident or caused by anything I did and my product was defective. I asked for his manager and phone number repeatedly, avoided my request and proceeded to tell me he had several managers and there was no direct phone number. He gave me the general customer service number and after repeated request he finally gave me a name for one of his managers with a direct number.
This company does not stand by their warranty and their customer service is terrible. I would avoid them at all cost. I was able to at least get my warranty cost refunded. I reported them to the Better Business Bureau. I contacted the manufacturer of my product who verified that the product is indeed waterproof and apologized for the defective product and is sending me a new one.

Hello Lawanda,
We apologize for any difficulty with your Squaretrade warranty.
Squaretrade warranties cover products up to the item's purchasing price, therefore the purchased warranty must have coverage which includes coverage up to this amount. This warranty only covered a product worth up to $100, whereas your item purchasing price was much higher.
Due to this we are unable honor the plan and we have refunded it's full purchasing price. We again apologize for any inconvenience but one of our specialists has directly emailed you to further discuss the situation.

Going through that process I have been misinformed (in writing and on chat) and feel the main purpose of the insurance is to create so many hassles, you want to give up. Have a Samsung Note 8, Warranty bought through Target. Phone won't charge. Was given the name and address of a phone repair place to take my phone to. They do not repair Samsungs. Email received stated if I want to go to another store, go to the claim status page to change, which I did. No other options were listed.
I opened a chat, who told me he could not give me an option and I needed to call the 877 number, which I did. I was told they could not give me any other options, although when I first filed the claim, 2 options were listed. I was then told I could take the phone to any place for repair. With my experience with them so far, I have no trust in their advice, as they also have the option of denying a payment request. Shame on Target and shame of this insurance.

I own three sets of headphones, two pair lasted past the extended warranty coverage time frame. The last pair I purchased stopped pairing with my phone after two months after purchasing them. I contacted SquareTrade and was told to send my headphones in to a repair center and they would repair the unit or replace them.
Approximately 2 weeks later I received a notification stating the claim was denied due to water damage with was not covered by the warranty plan. I knew this claim was untrue, the headphones were not exposed water outside of normal perspiration during wear. I called Square and told them that there this could not be an accurate assessment of the equipment because the headphones were not exposed to water. I was told I could pay to send the headphones to a separate repair shop and if they verify there is no water damage contact them to reopen the warranty claim.
I was deeply disappointed with my claim experience with SquareTrade and felt scammed and cheated. I would not recommend purchasing an extended warranty for small electronics from SquareTrade. I do not believe their repair technicians are competent enough to properly evaluate valid claims which leaves customers with who have valid warranty claims out of luck.
Hello Eric,
We apologize we were unable to repair your item.
Squaretrade offers a variety of warranties, in this case your item is covered by our Standard Protection plan. Standard Protection ensures your product's hardware or electrical failures are repaired, so long as the failure has been caused by normal usage or wear and tear. When your item was received at our repair center our technicians found signs of liquid damage inside the item, this requires an Accidental Protection plan to be covered.
We understand you disagree with this diagnosis and one our specialists has reached out to discuss the situation. We haven't yet had a chance to speak but we hope to discuss the situation soon and improve your experience with Squaretrade.

I bought a cheap gaming chair at Staples for like $100. It was $130 on sale for $100. The cashier sells me on the protection plan and assures me that if anything happens I can get the same exact chair or the $100 I paid back. NO PROBLEM. It covers accidents all that. Well fast forward 9 months when it gets scratched up by a cat and cushion is flat and uncomfortable, I try to file a claim and am offered $85. Not enough to buy the same chair ANYWHERE or a replacement. Of course I just want the same chair which is still abundant at Staples. Only to be told that they don't know if they can get same one, it may be different or REFURBISHED. AS IN USED.
I chose replace option to find out if I can get same one and wait for days and get no response until I go online to chat with a rep. Which says same thing and wants me to agree to a replacement without knowing what they are gonna send me and by doing so it will effectively end my protection plan options. Yea not gonna agree to anything uncertain or any product you just want to send to save money. Like what is the problem with replacing a $100 item for a company this big that you got paid to insure. Like don't sell protection plans then if you can honor even the smallest ones.
I now have to call and waste time out of my day to try to figure this out or get my money back for protection plan or go to Staples and try to get a complete refund or exchange for a new chair 9 months later which they probably won't want to do but won't want to deal with an angry customer due to SquareTrade trying to scam people. I wouldn't recommend this plan to anyone. I believe Staples even stopped selling it so that should tell you a lot.

I'm not a happy camper. I waited for about three weeks to get SquareTrade to honor their warranty. I had a coffee maker and it failed so Amazon sent me a new one. Amazon sent me a new one with no charge on it. Since I had problems with the first one, I bought the SquareTrade warranty for the second one. It started leaking and filing the claim was easy. I paid $39.99 for the coffee pot and I bought the warranty, but all they refunded me was $34. I asked if that was because of depreciation. I’ve never had SquareTrade do that. They really dropped the ball on that one. They kept saying that I didn’t pay anything for the coffee maker and asked what the problem was.
They would say that they'd call me back, but nobody ever returned a call. Then they'd ask me to fax them something and say that as soon as I send it in, to call back and ask for so and so and they will get things straightened out. Every time they told me to send them something, I sent it to them. Then, they would say no, they needed something else. It was just on and on. That was when I told them that I wasn't asking for the world. All I wanted them to do was honor their warranty that I paid for. At one point, they offered to send me the $6.37 that I paid for the warranty. It has been three weeks, and it got to be a little bit aggravating.

I went online and I bought SquareTrade for my device. I had used them since they went in business. They were a lot cheaper than Insureon or one of those companies. There were a couple times we submitted claims. It was like you call up if your phone’s not working, they send you a new phone, and you mail back your old phone. In the past two years, they’ve changed that a little bit where they tell you, “We’ll get your phone fixed, and we’ll reimburse you for it” or you can send it back to them, and they’ll fix it and get it back to you in a couple of days. So, originally, it was a replacement deal and after they realized that gets costly, they cut back on how they do things. They’ll get it fixed at one of their repair shops or get it fixed at your repair shop and they’ll reimburse you.
The customer service team at SquareTrade is nice when you call them on the phone. Since the last time I used them, I have an open claim with them because my daughter cracked her phone screen, and she doesn't wanna send it in to get it fixed, so it’s just sitting there. And when we bought a new iPhone X, the deals from Apple were better, price wise. With AppleCare, when you have a problem with your phone like you're pressing a button that should work and it doesn't work, they’ll tell you what you're doing wrong and they'll be polite about it. Where with SquareTrade, they're not there to help you get the phone to work. They’re there to make sure they fix it.

I paid $8.99/month for 8 months before I cracked my screen... Unfortunately the deductible for a screen repair is the EXACT SAME cost as paying for it to be repaired/replaced at the Apple Store. I can't imagine why or how this plan is worth it. Even if it were a more serious repair (ie water damage) I could replace the phone for under $400 so I can't see the justification in paying $108/year with a $150 deductible. I am 99% certain the plan showed me a $50 deductible for screen replacement when I signed up for it, but I guess I should have read the fine print.
The thing that will prevent me from ever considering SquareTrade again for any other devices is the requirement to call to cancel. I hate this practice by the companies that use it and it's always a sure sign to me that I won't do business with them again. I'm sure I'll get some BS explanation as a response to this, but there is no justifiable reason why, after providing credentials to log into my account, I can't simply click a couple buttons and cancel. Instead I have to call through a bunch of prompts and talk to a guy who wants to resell me on it without addressing my main issue.
Hello Scott,

I filed a claim to have my cracked Apple watch repaired/replaced. Apple stated they don't repair the watch, only replace it. I sent the old watch to Apple. Got the new watch after SquareTrade authorized the claim. Now they are dragging to pay the claim even though they authorized it. They want Genius Bar Work Authorization form and paid receipt showing both the damage watch and replacement watch serial numbers. Apple provided me a invoice which I sent to SquareTrade. SquareTrade is stating it only has the damage watch serial number on the receipt and needs to have both the old and new watch on the receipt. That I also need a work authorization form. And that the repair ID on the invoice i submitted is not verifiable. So I created the repair ID? That doesn't even make sense.
All of these things can be verified thru Apple with one phone call or one email. Now they are making me get all kind of forms to send them. It's ridiculous. Definitely NOT worth the hassle for the money. Stick to Apple Care. Now, SquareTrade is telling me if the required documents is not received by a certain time they will cancel my coverage and refund my money. It goes to show you how garbage the company is. First it was documents needed, now it's, "if you don't send documents by said date we will cancel your whole policy." Doesn't even make sense. What does my claim have to do with canceling my coverage? There's better out there and SquareTrade is definitely not it. I REPEAT, DO NOT INVEST OR WASTE YOUR MONEY IN THIS COMPANY.

I had to let SquareTrade know and they told me I am eligible for the refund, but I still had not sent the phone in because I work so much. I always get a protection plan for every item that I got. When I sent in a claim for damage to a product, SquareTrade was horrible. It takes forever for them to answer the phone. They don’t really like helping you out. The manager winds up having to get on there, and then when you do get somebody after that, they wind up transferring you. If somebody else gives you the information, I wind up getting it emailed to me. It's not a smooth progress at all. Things should be more streamlined when you're working with another company.
I'm paying for something I'm not getting. SquareTrade gotta get their customer service game up. You can enter a number for them to call you back, but you're still gonna be held off for about half an hour to 45 minutes. And then, when you call there, they act like they don’t know what you're talking about. They're quick to take money, but not quick to help you.

SquareTrade was offered on Amazon and I got it for my rototiller and my push weed eater. You never know how long they're gonna last. Purchasing the claim was very simple. I filed a claim for both my equipment and the process wasn't that hard. For the weed eater, they ended up sending me the money back. For the rototiller, Amazon told me to keep it because they couldn't re-ship it back. I canceled SquareTrade because the equipment had a warranty of its own for four years bumper-to-bumper. Overall, I would buy another extended warranty.

I bought a Kate Spade watch that was out of production from eBay for $200. I was offered a $15 warranty so I signed up. About 5 months later the little marks that represent the numbers started falling off. I called SquareTrade and first they made me prove that I had tried Kate Spade first and then they said that they could fix it. I sent it to them after paying for professional packing so it wasn’t damages in shipping.
They somehow decided that it wasn’t covered because it was physical damage and must have been dropped. That was not the case and there is no physical sign of damage on it. No scratches or dings or dents just the loose little marks that I told them about. When I called to ask what made them think it had been ‘dropped or bumped” they didn’t know other than the fact that the little marks were loose inside the watch face. They didn’t attempt a repair or give me any answers. They did refund the warranty price. This was the biggest scam ever! Sell a warranty and then refund purchase price on the rare occasion that it needs to be used. Never again will I be fooled and you should either. Melissa
Hello Melissa,
We apologize your recent claim was denied.
Squaretrade sells a variety of warranties, some of which include differences in coverage. Your watch was covered by our Standard Protection plan, this type of policy protect devices from hardware or electrical failures due to normal usage. When this item arrived to our repair center our technicians determined this watch had experienced a drop or an impact, this type of damage would require an Accidental Protection plan to be covered.
We understand you disagree with this diagnostic and one of our specialists has reached out to discuss this situation. Though we didn't have a chance to speak we hope to connect soon and to improve your experience with Squaretrade.

Any time I buy new equipment, I buy protection. SquareTrade was what was available and I purchased it from the stores. There are various stores that offer the same company. I bought two from Best Buy and three from Office Depot. They handed me a brochure that had all the information for my extended protection. The 800 number was already highlighted. I got an email after I bought the protection from SquareTrade to my town. It contained a confirmation that I bought the extended protection. But no one ever talked to me until I had to file a claim.
I have SquareTrade for several items like my UPS printer back-up services. When we had a failure of the devices, I made claims with SquareTrade. It was actually for two printers. One was an easy claim but the other was not. I was at the edge of my three-year extended service and they were not gonna cover it. It was a day from the end of the timeframe. I guess they have rules and regulations. They just felt like it wasn't worth it.
When making a claim, you do everything online. You go in, attach a picture of your receipt and a picture of the equipment that has failed. You then wait for their decision and you get an email telling you of their decision. You answer them that you accept their decision. If they're gonna pay you something, they send you a check in the mail within two to three weeks. But if they email you back and say, "We're terribly sorry. Even though you are days from the expiration of your extended warranty, we just feel that this item cannot be provided or protected at this time," there's nothing you can do. You just reply you received the email and don't make any comments. It's just yes or no.
I did a claim once over the phone, but there was no person. There were just questions and you choose 1, 2, 3, 5, or whatever the scale they give you. It then tells you they're gonna send you an email to the email you provide or a text message, depending on what you choose. I choose an email because then you have a paper trail. Nobody ever really talks to you. You basically talk to a machine and whoever's on the other side. I was really shocked to get an email that they wanted to talk to me about SquareTrade and I was questioning why. Nobody ever talked to me when I needed them. They were not available to tell me my claim was not covered.
If there is another service available, I would choose them over SquareTrade. Unfortunately for me, there isn't one available in my area from the various companies. I'm not happy with the solution that I received from SquareTrade because it was hit or miss. I pay the money but I didn't get the return that I expected. Also, I call several times in hopes that I could talk to a real person and explain the situation about the other printer. I am hoping that they would give me some kind of coverage on it and they would help me replace it. But they chose not to.
If the extended warranty works, it's valuable. If it doesn't, you're out the money. When SquareTrade called me, I only accepted because I felt like I could get to vent again about the lack of treatment that I received, the lack of care and just taking people's money. They take other people's $75 for an expected insurance of three years but we don't get anything. Multiply that by 100 sales a month in office supply or in electronic supply and that's $7,500. SquareTrade is raking the dough but they are not paying. I am dissatisfied and would never recommend them.

Hello Colin,

I have been buying their plans for years now, and when you have a claim to file, it is handled either by repair (which is usually a lot quicker than the manufacturer), or by sending you a check for the full amount (excluding shipping and taxes).
I have even made purchases for my kids and transferred the SquareTrade plans in their names. I once bought my daughter a washer and dryer through Sears, who offered me one of their very high priced plans that I could not afford. I called SquareTrade, and purchased a more affordable plan through them, then I transferred the plan into my daughter's name. I have a DVD tablet which wasn't working. That time, I could see black lines and I couldn't cut it off. Initially, I called HSN but they said that I should call SquareTrade. I called SquareTrade to put in a claim for my DVD tablet but then their reps gave me a bunch of runaround talking about how I don't have a warranty. I buy a warranty for anything that's over $100. I called HSN back and they called SquareTrade. What I got was a return label so I sent out my DVD tablet thinking it was going to SquareTrade. However, the whole package came back to me because there was a lithium battery in it that couldn't be sent. Furthermore, the package was going to the wrong place, HSN.
So I called SquareTrade again and again their reps told me that I don't have a warranty. Thereafter, I talked to HSN again and their reps said that my warranty was canceled. I told the rep with whom I was speaking that I didn't cancel the warranty. She then said that it got canceled and that they put my money back in my account. I went to my back account and my records show where I paid for the insurance and that HSN and/or SquareTrade didn't give me my money back. When I called them again, another rep said that it was a mistake on their end and that my warranty was cancelled from there.
The first rep tried to ask me if I wanted her to give me my $27 back. I told her no because I bought the warranty. It's now way over a year later and she wanted to give my warranty money back. I called HSN again and they got other people. I bought the warranty and there's proof in my bank account. I also have my warranty paper. I purchased a three-year warranty for my DVD tablet for $23.07. Somebody would have to pay for it.
Even though I have a problem going on, I'd recommend SquareTrade and I love them. When stuff is in the right, I have no problem with them. They get my stuff sent. If they can’t fix it, they send my money back. I bought a Motorola phone and it was horrible. I can't text on it because it would stop. I couldn't talk on it either. It just goes crazy but then the next minute, it would work. SquareTrade handled that quickly. I got a new phone coming. So, I know that they're not the problem.

I purchased a Keurig coffee maker from Amazon and though I don't usually buy warranties, I saw SquareTrade and it was $3 so I bought it. I recently filed a claim when the coffee pot stopped working and it was an amazing process. I forgot I had it and was thrilled when I found it, and I found that I was going to have a replacement free. Customer service was very helpful, efficient and quick. It was handled within a day, and everything was all good. They were absolutely wonderful and it couldn't have been a better experience.

SquareTrade was offered for my Samsung S8, and I decided that insurance is always nice. Recently I hit the release clip on my Zizo holster by mistake, and it went flying and landed on the corner. I thought the screen cracked, but it was just the protective glass over it. I didn't realize it until after I filed the claim. By that time, I called SquareTrade back and said, "I don't need this new phone 'cause I had gotten a new phone already." They said, "You already filed it and we've already paid the claim, so you have to just send the original phone back." And that's what I did. It was quite simple.

Bought a product. Saved the receipt, product failed. Warranty is useless.. Someone named Ruffin (dog name, no last name) told me it will not honor.. I understand that this is their own review site so, I will look to Google or Yelp to report what a rip off company this is.
Hello Bob,
We sincerely apologize that we have not been able to move forward with your claim.
SquareTrade requires the proof of purchase for all items before a claim can be filed as this helps us determine the best resolution for each claim. We request these via email and can provide guidance on how to obtain it as well. At this point, all we need to continue is the receipt for your item. Please refer to your email as the instructions have been sent for further assistance.
Again, we do apologize for any inconvenience, but we're looking forward to getting this resolved.
Best,NR

SquareTrade is the Paul Masson of insurance companies. Their business motto is to figure out a way not to pay the client. They pay no claim before its time. They got more angles than a geometry exam. You’re on hold, then they send you to some guy who doesn’t understand English and then they say this and say that. It’s a mess. When you buy off Amazon, which I do a lot, you think everything’s gonna go okay then it doesn't, then you wind up dealing with SquareTrade. Two years ago I bought a room dehumidifier. The traverse wheel broke on it so I called them and sent a picture. I waited and they said they'd call me back. A week later, they called me back and said they weren't paying the claim ‘cause they don’t have the product. The product is about 70 pounds, so for me to ship it back to them, it’s gonna run 89 bucks. They wound up paying me half.
Hello Phillip Smith,
We are sorry to hear that you are dissatisfied with your experience.
SquareTrade always does its best to offer repair and replacement solutions as our top priority. A reimbursement can be offered when the initial options are unavailable. In some cases, SquareTrade requires customers to send their damaged or defective unit to us for evaluation so that a reimbursement can be processed. This process allows customers to mail the device using a prepaid shipping label for a quick reimbursement resolution. Although many customers favor this option due to the quick turnaround, others may not, as in this case.
We appreciate your time in reviewing us, and we look forward to providing a better experience in the future.
Thank you,AA

ON/OFF button got increasingly more difficult to function: when it's OFF difficult to turn ON and vice versa. Making claim was a bit off-track but patient/polite representative was very helpful. Just got my reimbursement check today, 6/7/19, a bit longer than anticipated but all's well that ends well. Thank you.

I got a PowerA wireless controller and SquareTrade gave me the warranty. I went with the off-warranty that is given in the store, and I didn't know that I could use the manufacturer warranty. The rep helped me a lot and directed me to the path that I had to take opting with the manufacturer instead. Overall, it was easy to do what I had to do.

My LaserJet printer was not printing and it was saying that there was a supply error. I submitted a claim to SquareTrade. The wait time was a little long but the phone call itself was 10 to 15 minutes tops and wasn't very long. Additionally, the rep whom I spoke to was very helpful and friendly. She listened to my concerns and went through the process to make sure that everything was proper.
However, I did have a question after the fact regarding the claim and I used the online texting or communication that way. The individual that I was messaging with did not understand the question and ended up having me repeat the same thing three or four times. Still, the initial claim process was wonderful and I was very satisfied. We got the check within 15 days and it was very quick. Overall, going with SquareTrade was a wonderful opportunity to take care of a printer that wasn't working when it was right outside of the manufacturer's warranty. We got money back when we didn't think we were going to.

SquareTrade directed me back to the distributor of the coffee pot that I was asking about. At least, they were very nice about it. They did come back and say they couldn't help me. But at some point in the future, they may so I'll keep an eye out for that. The experience was not unsatisfactory at all. I appreciated their coming right back and telling me that they wouldn't to be able to help me. I would like better advice as to what SquareTrade does.

Filed a claim with SquareTrade two weeks ago, and after jumping through all the hoops and forms they requested, I was told today that my request for a claim is not approved. Phone was purchased in March from Walmart, and I paid the extra for the protection plan. The screen cracked on the phone in May from an accident. Why pay the $36 for a protection plan that isn’t honored? Seems like a scam just to get your money, then you can’t get a response or an “approval.”

Do not get a warranty through this company. Amazon does not tell you the warranty you are buying does not cover damage. SquareTrade use to be a good company until Allstate took over. I will never purchase another warranty from this company. Do your research. Allstate is taking your money and lying to you.
Hello Aimee,
We apologize we were unable to approve your recent claim.
Squaretrade TV warranties include extensive hardware coverage against hardware and electrical failures due to normal usage, though most of our TV warranties do not include coverage against Accidental Protection. This has been the case for many years and we greatly apologize if you felt our plan was not clearly advertised, as this is something we strive to achieve. We also provide customers access to their warranties via our mobile app or website, where you can see additional details regarding your coverage.
We understand you felt this was not your experience and we'd like to see what we can do to turn this around. One of our specialists has reached out to you to further discuss the situation and left a voicemail with contact information. Though we've yet to gain contact we're eager to speak, as we want to improve your view of Squaretrade.
Thank you,KM

Watching our TV the night before, our screen suddenly went black. Our remote would not turn on the TV. Called SquareTrade the next morning. Originally spoke with a very professional individual (George - Pakistan) who promptly transferred me to Patrick in Orlando, who walked me through a procedure to identify the problem, prior to dispatching a technician to our home. Patrick walked me through a process that identified the problem ... and we corrected the situation "on the spot". No service technician needed. The tv once again works perfect. Thank you Patrick and Square Trade - GREAT JOB :) And I'm a 75 year old non techno guy!

I’ve had issues in the past where icemakers didn’t last very long, so I bought a protection plan from SquareTrade for a portable icemaker that I bought. The icemaker broke and the rep that I talked to had it all done for me while I waited on the phone. He kept me on hold, found certain things I needed and helped me a lot. He went above and beyond and I was very impressed. For the 45 bucks that I paid for the insurance, it was well-worth it.

Unlike other warranty companies, that always find a reason to get out of honoring your contract. SquareTrade is 1000% the opposite. I filed my claim and within 15 minutes I received an email that my claim was approved and I was to call an 800 number. I spoke to a wonderful person and he said, "You will receive a check within 10 days." I received my check within 2 days. I will do my best to buy from stores that have SquareTrade. Thank you.

I continue to have issues with my computer even though the tech has worked on it online. Every time it is worked on the hard drive is wiped which causes me to buy Windows Office for it again. I think the computer is not good and has more to do with the brand than with SquareTrade. I prefer the computer to be replaced at this point.

I normally do not get extended warranty plans for items that are under $400, but decided to do it for the new Brother printer that I purchased from Staples. It worked great for about 8 months, and then quit. SquareTrade provided me with all the information I needed to get a replacement -- They were helpful, concerned, friendly, and followed through. I will definitely continue to purchase SquareTrade extended warranties.
