I purchased protection from SquareTrade for three phones. When my daughter's phone broke, it was pretty easy to make a claim for it online. I sent the phone out and by the next day, I had a gift card to go buy her a new one, so it was super fast. I had another protection plan that didn't work out as planned though.

I have a printer covered by SquareTrade, and we settled a claim that I called in. It wasn’t working properly, and I called them directly on the phone. They did the diagnostics and it was determined that it was better to pay it off instead of trying to fix it.

Advertise same day fix but waiting game on claims status and fix. Very frustrating. I have always used SquareTrade when purchasing my phones or electronics and usually they are very good. I usually have gotten the plan that doesn't cover drops and spills and they have usually been really good about it even though their customer service has been a little frustrating more lately. But usually they would do my claim in one day and either send me a new phone or got it fixed somehow fast.

But now I decided to get the phone protection plan that does include drops and spills since phones are getting more and more expensive and I can't guarantee how well my kids will watch their phones. Coverage says it starts on day one, well of all people, I dropped my phone 3 days later. I didn't get a cracked screen but it did hit pretty good on one side that I got a green flashing light towards bottom that the screen would flicker or turn green. I filed claim immediately.

In selecting the option I had, send it to them to repair, go to one of their retail stores for same day fix or go to my own, I select to utilize the same day retail store to take care of asap since it take only 1 to 2 hours to repair other than sending it off for 3 days. Well, claim was filed on a Wednesday and they took my deductible of $149. I thought great, I can get this done. Nope, I got a notice I would hear about my claim in 2 days (2 days with a phone that the bottom have turns green. I tried to call to get it taken care of earlier and was told it is out of their hand and I had to wait those two days. I did not get my response till Friday late night that claim was approved (3 days).

So, no frustrated claim took so long to approve but excited that I can finally take care of the issue, I go over to the location and they tell me that they have to order the screen which will be another 2 to 3 days. I tried to resolve and called to see if SquareTrade can get me in with another retailer who had it in stock for their advertising of "In home" or "Same day" retailers, but they ended up filing another claim that restarted everything. Well, I called all their same day retailers and NONE of them have a screen in stock. How is this same day? I already waited 3 1/2 days and now we are on a Saturday trying to fix a phone with no one having anything in stock. The ones that did have it in stock, I would have pay out of pocket and they would have to reimburse me that would take 5-7 business days, I was told and they had already took my deductible that would take a couple of days for them to reimburse that.

So, finally I got a rep that was willing to help and offered me a lot more choices but still not fixed today. All had a resolution of fixing in by Tuesday of next week. Almost 7 days of resolution from the time I filed claim. There is no same day fix or speedy repairs. Luckily my phone was half working and minimized green screen but I couldn't see my keyboard to text or call. Imagine if I had nothing at all and we are here 4 days later and no phone. Really frustrating when they advertise one thing and say I know how frustrating it could be without your phone but you are still having to be without it with this protection for days.

There needs to be loner phones or retailers that actually do have the supplies on hand to fix your phone. Or better yet, call the retailer to order the part when they are reviewing the claim so when 2 days later that they approve, it is already at the retailers for same day repair. UGH! Sad to say, I am looking at another plan that will protect our phone and be considerate that we need our phones fixed asap.

Square Trade sent me to Apple to get my phone fixed and they covered the cost in full. Their customer service department called me and was very nice and generous and apologized for the uncharacteristically complicated experience. In business, everyone can have an off day. I am very satisfied with Square Trade and can recommend them without any reservation.

I purchased a brand new factory sealed iPhone 6s Plus from an eBay seller and SquareTrade offered warranty coverage on it so I bought that too. After just a few months, the speaker went out and I tried to file an online claim. It would not let me because it said the manufacturer would have to cover it. I got a letter from Apple saying they would not fix it because it was out of warranty. I sent the letter to SquareTrade as instructed. After numerous emails and attempts to contact someone by phone (and on hold for an hour or more) I emailed them again. A week later they responded with an email saying I needed to call them or use the chat function on their website.

I finally got someone on the phone who said that I needed to file a claim. I said I already did but they said they closed it because I had to go to Apple. I told them I already did and Apple said no. Next, the person (not in the U.S.) said I had to send my receipt for the phone by email. I told them I already had and he said he couldn't open it and I had to do it again so I did while we were talking. He said I would have to call back because it takes twenty minutes for him to get the email. He said once the claim was filed I would receive instructions on how to fix the phone myself through a series of steps. I told him no, Apple diagnosed it and said only an experienced tech could replace the microphone!

He said then Square Trade would tell me how to send them my phone to their repair center (in God only knows what country). I told him NO, my phone had confidential information on it and I needed my phone for business and to just pay Apple to fix it at the Genius Bar in my local mall. He said I would have to wait to see what my instructions were. After all that time talking, he still had not received my email and said for me to hang up and call back another time and start the new claim process all over again. I think SquareTrade is a scam and they make it as difficult as possible for you to get satisfaction so that you give up and pay for the repair yourself. Guess again, SquareTrade. My attorney lives right next door and a lawsuit for insurance fraud is going to cost you more in court than the lousy $149 at the Apple store to fix my phone would cost you.

I brought a drone in 2018 @ the local Sam's club, I was told that the 3 year warranty would cover anything that happen to the drone. When I told the rep it hit a fence right away she said it wasn't covered under the plan I purchased so it wasn't covered, told her I wasn't offered any other plan and was told that anything would be covered. Am I to cover the price of repairs myself because I was told by the people that seek your warranty I would be. Make available ALL your warranties at the time of purchase. Hello Kelvin,

We apologize for any miscommunication regarding your warranty coverage.

Squaretrade offers a variety of warranties which include different coverage types and lengths. In this case your product was covered by our Standard Protection plan, of which covers the device against hardware and electrical failures due to normal usage.

This coverage mirrors the manufacturer's warranty, therefore it does not cover physical damage. We understand you felt this was not clear upon purchase and this is never what we want for our customers. This is why we provide our warranty contracts upon request, as well provide 24/7 customer support.

One of our specialists has reached out to discuss the situation further and see how we can help. We again apologize we can't approve this claim, but we hope to speak with you soon and turn this experience into a positive one.

If someone pays for your service, you should HONOR it regardless of timeframe! I purchased this warranty, did not realize it could not be used within 30 days. I tried to file a claim and was advised to contact the manufacturer. I did that...did not get in touch with anyone. I bought the item in April, here it is September and I still have not been able to get in touch with the manufacturer and you guys wouldn't help me!? What kind of * is that!? Issues started happening in April when I purchased the item, I wait 5 months after purchase date because I am trying to contact the manufacturer, therefore the issue shouldn't have been counted as being within the 30 day timeframe that you guys don't cover! If you guys aren't going to cover then why even offer it?! I will never use you guys again and I will make sure all my friends and family cancel their warranties with y'all.

**I purchased the plan for my vape mods I ordered for my husband and myself. Within 30 days, the items stopped working. Well I tried to contact SquareTrade within 30 days after purchasing and they said to contact the manufacturer, which is Kangertech. I tried to contact them via phone, email, social media, etc. and have STILL not received a response or callback to this day! That was April 21st! Here it is September 12th, still nothing!

I tried to contact Kangertech again today before I contacted SquareTrade to see what could be done since the manufacturer is non-responsive. I received a very rude man by the name of Ryan. He was a smart * and was not helpful at all. He asked me if I wanted him to share the "TOS" with me and I told him no because I was at work and did not have time for it. He sent it to me anyway. He informed me that nothing could or would be done because the issue started within the first 30 days. So...why does that matter?

I am contacting you 5 months AFTER the issues started...therefore it is technically PAST that 30 days. Anyways, he proceeded to tell me nothing will be done because eBay has a 30 day money back guarantee. I knew of this, however I did not think it adhered to 3rd party sold items which is what this is, it is not an eBay item! Anyways, he still refuses to help any further and started becoming more and more of a jerk. I requested a refund of ALL open accounts that I have. This is ridiculous and is a HORRIBLE warranty company. From now on, I will just do without a warranty. If it breaks after the manufacturer warranty expires then so be it. I will do whatever I have to do in order to not have to deal with this ridiculous company again. They should not be in business and I feel eBay needs to part ways with them - they are causing more harm than good!

We greatly apologize for any inconvenience caused attempting to use our warranty.

Squaretrade's warranty can only be used for items which are fully functional and experiencing no failures upon first use or during the initial waiting period. This policy is similar among most insurance or warranty companies, though we understand you felt this information was not properly communicated.

Squaretrade does our best to fully inform customers of their warranty purchase details, including online access to their warranty and copies of the policy terms and conditions being provided upon request. We also extensively train our specialists to provide courteous, knowledgeable support-- though we understand you experienced some difficulty speaking with our support center. Today, I received a call from Janina, a member of the Square Trade Resolution Team. From the beginning of her call, Janina got to the point in a very professional manner and addressed my problem with compassion. As a result, Janina made an offer that was fair to me and her manner of speech made the offer seem reasonable. Janina represents what one would hope for from a customer satisfaction agent.

In 2017, I bought a new Canon Printer from Amazon. At the time, it was deeply discounted & I recognized it was a bargain. With this purchase, I also purchased the Square Trade warranty. Yesterday, the printer failed. I called Square Trade and after explaining the failure, they offered me a replacement or a cash settlement. The cash settlement was less than the price I paid. I asked the rep why it wasn’t for the full amount and was told that this was the replacement cost. I accepted the cash. After hanging up, I went online to look for a replacement and found that the amount I was offered was significantly less than the price to replace the printer. I called Square Trade back and explained it to the agent, Thomas, and that now, I wanted to take the replacement option instead.

He spoke to his supervisor and when he returned to the call, I was told that they could not reverse the transaction because it was already in process. I said I was told the amount I was offered was based on a replacement. The least that should happen is that I should have been offered the full purchase price. He went back to his supervisor and said that he was told it was too late to add to the cash offer because it was already in process.

This morning, I decided to call Square Trade again. When I explained it to Hassan, he went to his supervisor. When he returned to the call, his supervisor said that they would increase the cash offer to the price I paid. I said that I was pleased because, unlike yesterday’s experience, that supervisor was unwilling to do even that. However, I explained to Hassan that given what I was initially told yesterday, I accepted the cash offer because they said that’s what a replacement would cost. Yesterday, the supervisor refuse to pay the full purchase price. Why did I have to make another call to get at least that?

The bottom line is that when I bought the printer, I bought it at a great price from Amazon. When the Square Trade agent said that their offer was based on the cost of the replacement, I accepted it. However, they misrepresented that fact when it was offered. When I discovered this and challenged them about it, the supervisor should have stood behind their pledge of 100% Customer Satisfaction. This time, they fell short….

I’m glad that I got the warranty because SquareTrade did pay for the phone and I did get the check the other day. However, I didn't like the idea that I paid for a two-year warranty, and now, the warranty is no good. If I get another phone, I’d have to buy another warranty. I thought if I get another phone, I’ll go to Wal-Mart and get the same phone, and I’d still have the warranty. They didn't even pay the tax on the thing. I paid 149, plus tax, plus the warranty on it. I asked, “Will you repair the screen?” When they looked it up, they said, “No, it’s not worth it.” I was hoping that I could’ve kept the phone ‘cause I like it.

It’s a done deal now but I don't think I’ll get another warranty. I’m using my old phone right now. I didn't get another phone ‘cause I’m retired living on 700 and some dollars a month, and it isn’t easy. The warranty is too complicated for me. I live by myself and I’m not computer-savvy. It was pretty hard for me because I couldn't download the thing ‘cause I don't have a computer. They also had to send me a thing to send it back with FedEx and it took a long time to do that. I just thought I could take it to Wal-Mart 'cause I bought it off of Wal-Mart. They said no and they gave me a pamphlet. They never gave me a pamphlet when I bought it. I also couldn’t find the darn receipt. I had to go to Wal-Mart and they gave me a copy of it.

While the agents were polite, this took FAR more time than necessary to try and resolve. I dropped my laptop and it caught fire about 2 years after purchase, and well within the 3 year warranty I had bought. And they kept going back and forth on the serial number (which I had provided them post drop and burn, and which they did not have before). I sent them pictures. I sent them emails. I spoke on the phone with them. They said they called back and left messages. They might have called back, as I had 2 missed calls from unknown numbers, but no messages. It seems impossible to sort out this. At this stage, if they cannot resolve, my options are to either sue or elevate to the District Attorneys office in my state for insurance fraud. What a waste of my time. AVOID this company at all costs.

The cost of the repair locally is the same price as the deductible that SquareTrade is charging. Very inconvenient to be without a phone for days and not save any money with the plan. This might be okay for a new phone but once the initial pricing on a repair drops, the screen replacement is no longer a good option.

It's cost-effective to have insurance on things. At Staples, we were given a little folder for SquareTrade and the rep told us to go online if we wanted to purchase it, so that's what I did. The website was pretty easy to use for me. Our office chair gave out and I made the wrong choice with my claim with SquareTrade. I told them that I wanted the Staples store credit so we could get another one. But it's about 110-mile round trip to a Staple store and we haven't been able to make it there.

One of the options that SquareTrade said they could have done was to find us a similar product and, I would assume, have it shipped to us. Now I'm wishing that I have just gone with that because we're several weeks out and we're sitting on our replacement chair. Next time, I'll know that's gonna be one of the options if I ever have to use it again. It was a good experience when I spoke to them. My son pays gets an insurance any time it's offered. He said he would never do without it. I spoke to them over a month ago and it was a good. Overall, my experience with SquareTrade encouraged me to get this kind of insurance in the future.

Updating to 3 stars since in the end SquareTrade is providing a reimbursement of the watch because they couldn't repair it (said nothing was wrong although Garmin support said otherwise) and had no replacement option. Ultimately, the resolution is acceptable although it required escalating the issue through consumer assistance services because calling SquareTrade was no help and they were not offering anything other a 2nd repair attempt.

    Original Review: Sept. 4, 2019

This company has horrible practices. I got this to cover a Garmin watch. When I no longer had manufacturer warranty the watch started having issues. I did all the troubleshooting with Garmin and they determined the watch needs to be replaced. I initiated SquareTrade claim. They had me ship them the watch then a week later they sent it back saying there is no issue. So now they know more than the manufacturer. I filed a complaint and their solution was for me to take the watch to a local repair center but the closest Garmin authorized service center is 3 states away. So when I declined that option, SquareTrade simply cancelled the policy and refunded whatever it cost. Must be nice business model. Sell policies, reject or fail to provide resolution as much as possible then when customers complain just cancel their policy and give them a small refund but hope that majority won't file or complain and pocket the money.

Filing my claims to SquareTrade has been fairly easy. However, I called one time thinking that the labels would be shipped to me. Instead, I had to go and print them out. That was kinda difficult 'cause I was at work and my work won't allow me access to do that. Also, when I called back to have them re-email the labels, I found that SquareTrade didn't file the claim like they were supposed to on one of the phones. I had filed two claims but then they only filed one. When I called back, they then got the other claim in. It's been great with SquareTrade so far.

I was contacted very quickly by the company who did offer a satisfactory resolution. I appreciate their attention and consideration. I wish the warranty process had been a little clearer and better outlined in general, but their effort to remedy the situation goes a long way.

    Original Review: Sept. 3, 2019

Last thanksgiving, I purchased a pair of Bose Soundsport headphones from Target. The salesperson asked if I was interested in purchasing the additional warranty coverage from SquareTrade, and clarified that it would cover situations not covered by the manufacturer’s warranty, such as damage due to moisture (my main concern since I use these headphones for running in all weather). I bought the warranty that I thought would ensure this coverage.

My headphones were damaged this weekend as a result of proximity to a pot of water giving off steam. When I tried to file a claim online, I was told that I needed to go through the manufacturer and could follow up with SquareTrade via telephone, if my case was not resolved. I called SquareTrade to discuss replacement or repair and was told by their representative that the warranty I purchased did NOT cover moisture damage and that the best she could do was refund me the cost of the warranty. I am beyond frustrated. I’ve never spent so much money on headphones before, and it’s just been so much wasted.

We apologize for any miscommunication regarding your warranty coverage.

Squaretrade offers Standard and Accidental Protection plans, each of which offers varying degrees of coverage.

As an overview, the policy covering your product was a Standard plan, which protects against hardware and electrical failures due to normal usage.
Unfortunately, this plan does not cover against physical or liquid damage.
We understand you felt the experience was not as expected.
We have reached out to discuss a solution, and we were not able to reach you.

We have an online catalog that we can go in through and shop, and SquareTrade is their main warranty company. Anything I’ve purchased within the last few years is under the manufacturer’s warranty which covers up to three years. After that, SquareTrade covers it for a year more. I have a lot of products on warranty with them, but the stuff I have has always been covered under the manufacturer’s warranty. Still, I keep them because it’s offered to us when we purchase and I'd pay a dollar a month more than what I would if I was to purchase something outright. The website is also easy to use, but I do things over the phone because it’s a lot easier. Everything has always been fast and easy.

I have SquareTrade warranty for a laptop and for a phone. The phone I purchased directly through SquareTrade. The laptop had a plan with it through a store. I set up the service online, and it was pretty simple. Doing the claims is also relatively easy to do. My laptop must’ve fell at one point. Somebody might’ve accidentally knocked it over and the screen slightly cracked. It started being a little glitchy after it. So, I figured since I have the plan, I’ll take care of it.

They updated me fairly regularly and quickly too, other than the fact that I just printed out the claim. It was more lagging on my end because I have had problems with my printer that had nothing to do with SquareTrade itself. My printer was being really weird and that was the only thing that really held me back. But they’ve been understanding. They said “We understand you’ve been having problems on your end. We’ll wait until you can mail it to us.” I’m gonna be shipping the item within the day.

It takes three to five days to come back if it’s something easy. But if it is complex but easy, they’ll tell me. And then if it comes early, they’ll let me know. The warranty is really good, especially when these guys wanted to help out. I’ve gone through other companies, and other companies don’t wanna make sure that everyone, them and the people that they’re giving the plans, are satisfied. But SquareTrade seems to want everyone to be happy.

Every time I sent in the claim number and the receipt they would kick back an email saying they needed a better receipt. So, I would send a different version and it would get kicked back. I did this six times even with a screenshot of my order and they still declined my claim. I spent over 3 hours dealing with this. Between me searching every possible place on my computer and phone calls. Next, I got Amazon to talk to them and send ST a receipt. ST denied it as well. Even Amazon told me they had never seen this. All this over a $100 phone. So, I'll NEVER use SquareTrade again! In conclusion, if you buy a plane from ST you have been warned! I work for the state of Ohio which uses a program called Purchasing Power. Through that program, you can add warranty on certain products so that’s what I did. I bought an Xbox 360 at Christmas time which got damaged. The HDMI port was messed up so I did a claim online and sent it in. SquareTrade sent it back telling me that it was fixed, but when I went to plug it up and use it, I was still having the exact same issue. They asked me if I tried to go on different TVs and if I changed the HDMI cord, which I did. I have five or six different HDMI cords ‘cause I have other game systems in the house. I tried them on all the smart TVs and it just didn’t work. They told me that there was nothing they could do.

I ended up having to ask for a manager who then told me to go send it back. And if they didn’t get it fixed that time, they would send me a check so I could buy another one. But because of my work schedule, I don’t have time to keep running to FedEx every time they can’t get it correct. So, I haven’t been able to take it back.

If I have insurance on something, I shouldn’t have to send it back three times and for them to keep telling me that it’s fixed when it’s not working. I know how to work my TV and a video game system. Everybody in the house has them. So, the second time they sent it back, they should’ve just offered to send me a check so I could buy a whole new game system. I’ve been dealing with this since March. I have had claims before and this is the first time this happened. I don’t know if that’s because it’s a gaming system but I’ve never ever had this hard time trying to get something either fixed or reimburse it so I could go get another one.

Filing a claim with SquareTrade for a printer was very difficult for me. I had to go to the library and fax something over. And then, the guy that told me I had to fax it didn't tell me what information I had to put on it. So when it got there, nobody knew what it was. And so, when I called back three days later, they were like, "Well, we don't have it. You're gonna have to submit it again." So I had to go back to the library and do all that crap again, then waited another 24 hours, and then called them back and got it all set up. It was a drawn out and annoying process for me.

Not everybody has internet, not everybody knows how to do all this stuff, not everybody has a smartphone, and the answer of, "Oh, well, all you gotta do is..." doesn't work when you have a flip phone and no home internet access. And the recording kept saying, "Well, if you wanna do this faster, just get online." I can't use my phone when I'm in the library where they got the internet to be checking anything. I'm old school. You should be able to make a phone call, give them the information. Also, at both times that I called I had to wait on hold, over 20 minutes, waiting for somebody to get to my call, which cost minutes off my phone and minutes off my life. I was not impressed at all. They just gave me a refund but I got $79 for a $149 printer. I opted to get the check and get it done quickly instead of having them try to fix it. I'm tired of it. I got a printer that I can't use, for a reason that I needed it for, and I was just ready to be done with the whole process.

It wasn’t clear that I was supposed to print off the shipping label and package the product myself to send it back. I only realized that a week later. I understood that they would send a package with a label on it and I have to put the laptop in the package and send it to them. Other than that, the guy was extremely helpful and I felt pretty good at the end of that phone call.

Another thing is that I got frustrated with the website. ‘Cause I’m going back in. I’m trying to figure out how to get hold of somebody for help or even try to do a follow up because when I’m being told that they would contact me in two to five business days when they receive the laptop, I didn’t hear from anybody for two weeks. So I went ahead and took the effort to try and find somebody and call. SquareTrade just emailed me last week, saying that they couldn’t repair the laptop, so they’re gonna send me a check and I have no idea how much I’m gonna get back. I’m hoping it’s the full amount because it’s a very spendy laptop. So far, I’ve been very satisfied, but we’ll see how big the check is.

I have used SquareTrade for years on multiple products and always found them to be prompt and efficient in the past. This is not the case on my recent service request for my IPhone. I sent the phone in on Thursday and it was received by SquareTrade on Friday. Friday I received an e-mail stating the phone had been received, repaired, and shipped back to me. Five minutes later I get an e-mail that the process was 75% completed, and the phone was being serviced. So did it ship, or is it being worked on? I expected the phone to be delivered Saturday. I called back Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and then on Tuesday with each call and chat ending in complete frustration at being told they still don’t have tracking information and someone will be getting back to me within 24 hours. By Tuesday morning, the poor service responses are wearing me thin.

I’m now told by the rep that the phone was received and repaired on Friday, and that nothing was done Saturday, Sunday, or Monday, but that today they are testing the phone to make sure it is good. WHAT! I got a supervisor on the phone to tried to assure me that my claim was now high supervisor priority and someone would get back to me IN 24 HOURS!!! You’ve got to be kidding me. Same line repeated 4 days in a row. Had I known the service was going to be this poor I would have taken the phone direct to Apple Service where it would have been fixed the same day. I still don’t have my phone, nor do I know when I will ever receive it. I would give a zero rating if I could. The TV has been in my possession the entire time. I turned it on and it was like this. I have not dropped it. It has not been damaged in any way, shape or form while in my possession. This is absolutely unacceptable. I have been a Costco member for 16 years and never in my entire time as a Costco Member have I come across the incompetence of SquareTrade. Every person I spoke with (5 to be exact) asked me if there was accidental damage to my TV, and each time I said NO.

I will be filing a complaint with the BBB as well as Costco. I spent $60.00 for this plan to have it covered as I had a similar experience where I lost a TV to an Electrical Issue but was out of warranty so I had to buy a new TV. Then I was told to do a soft reset. Still had same two issues on eco or quick start mode. Called again. Was told to try unplugging it at night which worked for awhile, but then on the 23rd when I plugged it in to turn it on it was a dark screen that started randomly showed store demo mode at top of screen today, they had only helped me cause more issues. When I called to see if my options they said I still had to deal with the manufacturer, even though I have a three year plan. Which I was told ended after first year.

One guy at SquareTrade has tried to help a lot today (24th) with some other remote resets, etc. But still stuck in store demo without apps working, dark screen until TV resets itself in that mode. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Squaretrade provides repair, replacement, and reimbursement as our resolutions to address consumer claims. Which are available depends on the item and issue.

These resolutions are detailed within the terms and conditions of our warranty contract. Square trade as well as other warranty providers charges deductibles for the claims made on the account.

We have seen that in most cases, a factory reset has resolved phone issues and saves the customer a claim.

In the case that the factory reset doesn't address the situation, then we move on the repair the device.

In this instance, your approved claim is for a local repair.
The way that it works is that you will pay upfront for the repair.
Upon receiving the repair receipt, SquareTrade will fully reimburse you for the repair cost minus the deductible.

This is a resolution in which Squaretrade has utilized for years. This option is typically considered a quick fix and has been shown to have a very high customer satisfaction rate.

The warranty is very valuable and the claim was great. I can't imagine what I would've done if I didn't have it covered. I paid $119 dollars for SquareTrade insurance on my new smart phone. It covers the phone for only two years, and I learned the hard way that it really doesn’t cover much. I dropped my phone and the screen shattered, SquareTrade charges an $85 deductible before they will cover the rest of the new screen cost. That is hardly worth it when to replace the screen on my own would’ve cost less the $204 I paid altogether for the instance. I would’ve saved more money by being uninsured! Read the fine print and say no to SquareTrade as a phone insurance!

Based on how the claim went, I wouldn’t shy away from a SquareTrade warranty for an electronic device.

When I got a new iPhone 10R, I bought a warranty for it from my cell carrier, **. They use SquareTrade for the warranties, and I was assigned a warranty number. As it turned out, a friend dropped my phone not ten days later, and I called SquareTrade to see what I would have to do to file a claim. After a 48 MINUTE wait on hold, I gave all of my information to a young lady who seemed to be having problems understanding my questions.

I asked if it can just have it repaired locally, and send a bill (I realize they might not reimburse it all, that's OK), and she said "Yes." But, once I finished giving all of the info, she said that the claim could not be filed because "We don't cover the iPhone 10R ... yet." Huh? I reminded them that THEY ISSUED ME A WARRANTY, which she acknowledged at the start of the call! She said it was the cellular carrier's fault, since "they didn't submit the 10R." I asked what kind of phone it said on the warranty in front of her, and she responded "iPhone 10R." Uh, I asked to speak to a supervisor, and the original rep fought me to NOT do that, saying "Everyone is busy, and we can call you back in 48 hours." Uh, NO.

Finally, she got a supervisor on the line, who proceeded to repeat that the 10R was not covered, but "might be in a few days, so fall back and file your claim then." Huh?? I asked again if I can have the phone repaired in the interim, and she said, "You COULD, but then you would still have to take it to one of our approved repair locations." "AFTER I have it repaired, you want me to take it to ANOTHER repair shop??" "Yes, that is correct. And, once they APPROVE it, you will have to MAIL your phone to us, so we can see it."

That is the point where I "lost it" completely. They (likely somewhere in the Middle East, based on the accents of both people) were reading from scripts that had consecutive lines that contradicted each other. I called my cell carrier and complained. PS: I did try to file my claim two days late, online. Their website is WORSE than their phone line... I am trying to file a CLAIM, and am bombarded with constant POP-UPS of :"testimonials" saying HOW GREAT SquareTrade is, how I should also insure my TV, etc. Another half hour of that, no progress. I called my cell carrier and CANCELED my warranty. NOT WORTH having to deal with a company who OBVIOUSLY doesn't care about how much they piss off their customers. PS: FYI, I work online, on dozens of websites, about 30 hrs a week, and am VERY familiar with how website SHOULD be run. Not even close, here.

I had a Vizio TV that wasn’t functioning right that I purchased from Sam’s. It would get little lines running across it and then it would just completely go to a black screen. I called Vizio first and that warranty had expired. So, they told me to call SquareTrade. They had me to do some stuff one time and I’d done that, and it worked for about a week and then it came back. Last time, another guy had me do a couple of more things over the phone. He had me unplug it and push the reset button and unhook it from everything, and then push the reset button. Currently, it’s still working. He said if it happened again to call back because they're gonna have to send someone out or it could be the DirecTV box.

When I made the claim, it was a lot on my end. I had to physically do what he was trying to tell me that I needed to do. I had to take the TV off of the console we had it set on, turn it upside down so I could see under. So, it wasn’t something simple. The experience was somewhat satisfying, but I didn't like having to move the big TV all by myself and figure out what he was trying to tell me to do. The rep said they wouldn’t send anyone out if they could handle it over the phone.

They sent the replacement laptop in a box that explicitly stated the laptop had a core i7 processor. Upon opening the laptop and checking the settings it is a 7th generation core i5. The fact that the box was misleading makes me think that SquareTrade was trying to trick me. I called two agents and they could not do anything about this. I was not able to be reimbursed for my item, which would have at least allowed me to buy back my old laptop. Now I'm stuck with this piece of garbage thanks to SquareTrade. Their policy states they will replace or reimburse you for your item if it cannot be repaired. What they do not say is that the replacement will be of "similar quality". I will continue leaving bad reviews until SquareTrade decides to be a better company.

I use my items extensively and SquareTrade was the only warranty that B&H offered. I got a protection plan for my Zhiyun Crane 2, which is a stabilizer for cameras. It’s made of metal, and you could no longer screw in the casing for the batteries because it just wore out. When I filed a claim, SquareTrade had nowhere to repair this specific thing, so I had to go to find a repair shop and I had to pay 60 bucks for them to write that they couldn't repair it. There was no replacement bit that could be purchased.

SquareTrade asked me to create an invoice and I asked them if they would reimburse that and they would not. They said I had to do that. That’s the only company in my area that I knew that’s a legit electronics fixing place. So, if you’re in Canada, think twice about it. There’s nowhere to repair it here that SquareTrade had in their database. I still haven't gotten my check because of my address. They didn’t have the number. I’m hoping I still get my check as soon as possible. They said they're cancelling and sending it to me ASAP, so that was nice.

We apologize for any difficulty experienced with this claim.

Square trade provides repair, replacement, and reimbursement as our resolutions to address consumer claims.
These resolutions are detailed within the terms and conditions of our warranty contract.

Which are available depends on the item and issue. We do our best to accommodate consumer requests, but these resolutions are ultimately determined per our discretion.

Your claim was previously approved for a local repair, a resolution which Square trade has utilized for years.

This option is typically considered a quicker way to get your item fixed. However, we understand that this was not in your case.

When we received documentation that your item was not repairable, we moved to our next resolution, which was reimbursement.

We again apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your feedback. It is always our goal to always look for ways to improve!

I got it to print. Two days later it started the same problem. I found my receipt and started the warranty process online. As others have mentioned it is a ridiculous process that would not allow me to complete online form and had to call a 1(877) number to get assistance. Right away the representative was able to ask questions about the printer (I had not told him the manufacturer or any other info which tells me that the online was just pointless). He told me the printer was $99.99 and I told him I got it on sale for $49.99 and he said, "That's good for you."

He came back and offered me $42.00 and had said so much during this I had to ask him again exactly what they were going to do. He stated send me a check for $42. I said, "Well it is a $99 printer and why would I take less than what I paid." He said, "Well you didn't pay $99. You paid less and it is a year old." I said, "Well I paid $49. Why would I take $42 when I just put over $40 of ink in it and would have no use for that." He again asked if I would mind being on hold. He came back with the same wordy statement and offered me $49...by then I was very angry and said, "No, I will take a replacement" and was told it would take up to 5 days to find another one which would be refurbished....that is crap. I will never buy extended warranty from Squaretrade; I feel like they are scamming people and taking advantage of them.

    Hello Valentina,

We apologize for any dissatisfaction with your recent claim.

Squaretrade utilizes the manufacturer warranty for almost all items we cover, as we can only provide a finite amount in resolutions per item. Typically this coverage amount equals the amount paid for your item, as is the case with your warranty.

Squaretrade provides repair, replacement and reimbursement as our resolutions. Which resolution your product qualifies for depends on a variety of factors, but whichever option is selected your limit of liability remains the same. In this case we offered two different resolutions to service your product, both of which were denied.

Since we have offered these resolutions we are meeting the obligations of the warranty. We apologize if these results are dissatisfactory and one of our specialists has reached out to confirm if you'd want to cancel the policy. Otherwise we'd be happy to approve your claim.

My Macbook Pro has a few issues that started to start at the same time, 1. faulty keyboard (which Apple has acknowledged and said they would repair for free), 2. battery does not hold charge, and 3. screen distortion caused by some hardware issue. The complication arises due to the fact that I was approved to replace my battery by going to an Apple retail store (as well as repairing the keyboard since it is a defect with my Macbook Pro model); HOWEVER, the hardware issue that is causing the faulty screen was not approved for repair at Apple. This honestly makes no sense to me. I should be able to repair ALL issues at an authorized repair center, in this case, the Apple retail store. I shouldn't need to get some issues resolved at Apple, then resolve some issues by shipping to SquareTrade. Exceptions should be made in the spirit of helping the customer.

    Hello David,

We apologize for any difficulty with this claim.

Squaretrade does our best to offer a variety of resolutions, though which are available depend on your item and the issue it is experiencing. Your claim was initially approved to have the item repaired by your local Apple shop, afterwards receiving compensation from us via check. This is a relatively common resolution and allows our customers the flexibility to repair the product at their convenience.

If this resolution proves unsuccessful we can migrate your claim to a different resolution, as was done in this case. We have since approved your item to be serviced by our mail-in technicians and the packaging for your product is expected to arrive today.

After I had the air bed for three months, I couldn’t return it back to Walmart because the warranty through Walmart had already went by. So, I started filing a claim online with SquareTrade. But it was very complicated. You could put anything in there then it would say that they didn't cover any warranty and that I had to do this and that. So, I decided to call and talk to somebody. They told me that I had to call the manufacturer who made the air mattress first and make sure that they wouldn’t repair the item. It was a mess.

In the end, I didn’t get the mattress repaired. The manufacturer said that they don’t repair the item, then I had to call back the warranty company saying that I spoke to such and such. But I shouldn’t have to call a third-party. I'm already paying for warranty and the insurance company should be the one that handles everything for me. But SquareTrade didn’t handle it. The whole thing was really a waste because when SquareTrade said they'd take care of the problem, they said that based on their computer, they were gonna give me $25 back. Hi Lakenya,

We're very sorry you encountered this experience.

SquareTrade is an extension to the manufacturer's warranty that runs concurrent but does not take its place. For mechanical and electrical failures during the first year, we refer these claims to the manufacturer of the item since most of these issues are typically caused by defects or poor workmanship. However, in the event of a denial, SquareTrade can reevaluate the case and see what additional assistance can be provided.

However, upon reviewing the account, we confirmed that you were able to get this case resolved, fortunately. We hope that we have the opportunity to give you a better experience in the future.

I got the warranty through Costco and when I filed a claim, I spoke to someone from SquareTrade on the phone. My experience with them has been good and having an extended warranty is very valuable but the last time, they told us to reset the TV and it’s still not working right. I kept saying that I’ve changed the screen, and it still looks really dark. They wouldn’t send anybody to look at it. So, I need to call them back.

Galaxy 9S. I put in claim, the first repair shop was out of business. The second shop wouldn't take the claim number then I had to call SquareTrade for second claim. It turns out they can't fix the problem. SquareTrade rushed me refurbished phone. Now I have another problem with this phone. The problem is the phone keeps saying charging port is wet, we have to keep resetting base on the instructions we were given by SquareTrade. I finally am fed up with all the phone calls I have to make.

For about 2½ days it was questionable whether or not I was going to be able to save the old phone's data. The young guys at Mr. Phix it saved my butt. I would recommend SquareTrade because they take care of their business and they respond fast. They appropriately accommodate me as they should. Nowadays, any electronic or electrical device that you purchase really doesn't last that long. Having an extended warranty is valuable. It appears that when they manufacture stuff now, it's not well-made. I purchased a tablet and the retailer offered SquareTrade. My tablet stopped working. It wouldn't boot up. So I sent it to SquareTrade for the repair, but they couldn't repair it.

I phoned the claim in and it wasn't difficult at all. And my interactions with the customer service team was good. They sent me a mailing label, and then I sent it in. In a couple days, they let me know what was going on. In the case of the tablet, they sent it back, and still, it wasn't repaired, so I sent it back to them. And then they let me know that they couldn't repair it. And so, they paid the cost of the device.

The only thingis when I sent it to them the first time, the device they sent back to me wasn't my device. It looked like part of it wasn't my device. It was a tablet and it had a keyboard. So the keyboard detached. But then when I got it back, the keyboard would not attach to the tablet. It didn't fit. I had no problem before because it's magnetic. When you put it in there, it just finds it right away. Also, the tablet didn't look like my device. It was the same product but it wasn't mine. That was confusing to me and was a problem. They weren't telling me they were sending something else. The communication was it was mine. Then when I sent it back, then they told me they could not repair it. Then I would have to be satisfied because they paid me for it.

Updated on 08/22/2019: When I filed a claim with SquareTrade, they asked me a bunch of dumb, diversionary questions, and tasked me with contacting the seller (even though the SquareTrade contract doesn't say they may give me tasks like that). Nonetheless, I answered all their questions, and went above and beyond my contractual responsibilities by contacting the seller. And then I never heard from SquareTrade again.

In this forum, a SquareTrade representative named "JR" said that if I email the information about my claim to reviews-at-squaretrade.com, "one of our specialists will investigate the situation and follow up with you directly." I did that on August 10, and no one has followed up with me. It looks like SquareTrade is once again trying to get out of honoring the Protection Plan I purchased. JR -- if you get back to me again, PLEASE do not speak of a manufacturer's warranty. According to the seller, the manufacturer's name is "Genrt" and I have made clear to SquareTrade so many times, that "Genrt" does NOT offer a warranty!

Original Review: It's nice to see that SquareTrade is responding to customers in this forum. Hopefully they will respond to me, because I sure didn't have any luck getting them to respond in normal channels. When I purchased a set of water filters that install in my Frigidaire refrigerator, SquareTrade offered a protection plan, and I accepted SquareTrade's offer. My SquareTrade plan number is **. Immediately after I installed it, the filter started leaking water all over the food in my refrigerator. All of the filters in this set, in fact, had this defect.

I contacted the seller, who did not offer a warranty, would not give a refund, and would not provide any support other than telling me "if you reinstall the O-rings that came with the old filter, it will solve your problem." (Essentially, the seller was admitting that the O-rings supplied with the new filters were faulty. Unfortunately, when I threw away the old filter, the old O-rings were thrown away with it. So that was not a solution.) So, time to file a claim with SquareTrade.

Although the filter was compatible with Frigidaire refrigerators, the filter itself was not manufactured by Frigidaire. In the item description, the eBay seller stated "Brand: Genrt." Surely SquareTrade knew that when they decided to offer a protection plan on this filter. (Maybe not? Maybe SquareTrade offers protection plans on everything in sight, without first doing due diligence on whether the item was made by a reputable manufacturer?) But I stated the brand, "Genrt," when I filed the claim with SquareTrade. (I now suspect that "Genrt" was the seller's misspelled way of abbreviating "Generic.")

It's almost certain that the manufacturer did not offer a warranty. If they had, surely the eBay listing would have said so. Instead of replacing the faulty water filter, "SquareTrade Care Specialist Jason" emailed me, and asked me to contact the seller a second time, and ask the seller how to contact the manufacturer, and then contact the manufacturer and ask if they offered a warranty. Now, I looked over my SquareTrade contract, and nowhere did it say that SquareTrade may assign annoying tasks to me, such as contacting the seller AGAIN to see if I could go on a wild goose chase about the nonexistent manufacturer's warranty on my "Genrt"-brand water filters. "Genrt" did not even have a web site (I had googled them).

Nonetheless, I went above and beyond my contractual responsibilities, and did as Jason asked: I contacted the seller. I gave the seller a week to get back to me, and they never did. I let Jason know that. I also provided him with the URL of the eBay item description, so he could see for himself that the brand is "Genrt," and that no warranty was offered. Guess what SquareTrade did next? "SquareTrade Care Specialist Jonah" emailed me and directed me to "Try getting in touch with the manufacturer on: Frigidaire 1 (800) 374-4432". How frustrating, after I had made clear more than once that Frigidaire was NOT the manufacturer of the defective water filters.

I replied to Jonah and provided additional evidence that Frigidaire was not the manufacturer – including URLs that show the visual difference between genuine Frigidaire filters, and the "Genrt" filters for which SquareTrade had chosen to sell a protection plan. Guess what SquareTrade did next, after I had answered all of SquareTrade's silly, diversionary questions and after I had gone above and beyond my contractual responsibilities? Absolutely nothing. I never heard from SquareTrade again. (If you respond to me in this forum, SquareTrade, I have now replaced the Frigidaire with a different brand of refrigerator, so please do not send me Frigidaire-compatible filters. Reimbursing the cost of the faulty filters would be the right thing to do.)

I bought their 5-year protection plan for a nice 65" Samsung TV I got from Costco in Nov. 2016. I recently noticed some screen issues so I opened a claim in July 2019. SquareTrade quickly determined the TV wasn’t reparable, and approved the claim; that was the easy part. They then tried to force me to accept a cheap replacement, limiting me to a choice of 2 options (both Samsung) that cost substantially less than my TV. Their website FAQ said that these were my only options—I couldn’t choose another model of at the same price, or at a higher price and pay the difference. I also couldn’t buy any protection plan for the replacement—it would just be covered under the remaining term of my current plan, up to my plan limit. My plan limit is the cost of my original TV purchase price less the cost of any replacement—so basically, very limited coverage for a shorter period of time.

This was actually contrary to the written terms of the plan, which I fortunately kept and could find over 2.5 years later. I’m also a lawyer, so I know how to navigate a contract. My plan entitled me to a cash refund of my original purchase price if SquareTrade couldn’t or didn’t want to repair my TV. I could also opt for a replacement TV, but only at my request and upon my option. I was not required to accept a replacement TV, let alone one of SquareTrade’s choosing. Obviously, when ST offers me 2 cheap replacement options without the ability to get a full protection plan on it, a full cash refund is much better. Even if I liked the options they provided, I could take buy it myself, plus a full protection plan, and pocket the difference.

When I called ST to tell them I didn’t like their options and wanted the cash refund instead, they told me they couldn’t provide it because they had identified at least one TV with similar or better specs. When I pointed out that that is contrary to the written terms of my plan, they seemingly did not care. It sounds like they had changed the terms of the newer plans to require you to accept a replacement, so that’s what the company reps went by—even though my plan (and countless other Costco customers who bought the plan between 2014 and 2017) did not have this purported new language in it.

I had to send them a copy of their own contract (because they apparently didn’t have a copy), and spend a couple hours arguing with them about the terms of their plan to finally get them to honor their legally enforceable contractual obligations. The supervisor who finally acceded to my request described it a “one-time exception” to keep me happy, and said the terms of my plan were outdated, confusing, and an error that needed to be looked into and corrected. Pro tip: Abiding by the terms of a valid contract is not a special exception or favor—it’s a legal obligation. A party cannot unilaterally change the terms of the contract, let alone without notice to or consent by the other party.

Clearly, SquareTrade is trying to mislead and short-change its customers to pocket more money than it’s entitled to. By the way, I bought a second ST plan on a new TV in late November 2017 with the same terms and conditions. That plan will be in effect until November 2022. So this version of the plan is not that old, and was being issued at least as recently as 20 months ago, and will be in force for another 3+ years. But ST seems to think these plans are ancient and no longer in effect. And they are quite willing to mislead and pressure customers into accepting a much worse deal than what they’re entitled to under the terms of their plan. ST is literally banking on the hope that people won’t keep a copy of their plan, and won’t bother to read it when opening and resolving a claim.

Don’t buy it. Don’t buy their BS if you currently have their plan and are being told to choose a crappy replacement TV. And don’t buy their plan if you can avoid it. I found the experience appallingly bad and deeply disappointing. I will say the reps I spoke with were all nice and courteous. But the company seems to have very shady business practices. It shouldn’t require a law degree and 2 hours of arguing over plain and clear contract language to get a company to abide by the terms of the contract that they themselves wrote. I don’t understand how they have an A+ rating from this website.

ST also won’t haul away your old defective TV. You have to dispose of it yourself. In contrast, I had a great experience with a Geek Squad warranty on a TV I got from Best Buy a few years ago. They were super nice, efficient, and easy to deal with, upheld their end of the contract without any pushback, and picked up my old TV. If you’re looking to get a new TV and the only warranty plan option available is through SquareTrade, pick a different TV or store. For what it’s worth, Costco is no longer selling ST plans on Samsung TVs (at least as of July/August 2019), and has worked out a deal with Samsung to offer an extended 5-year manufacturer warranty at no extra cost (not sure if they’re still offering ST on other TVs).

During the past four days I have been trying to get my television repaired with “no” satisfaction in dealing with my warranty with SquareTrade. I have spent over four plus hours dealing with representatives and technicians from SquareTrade who have either cut me off or dropped my calls and who have provided no assistance in resolving my issue. Only through a conversation with a Samsung technician, which was arranged through a SquareTrade technician, that I finally received I satisfactory resolution to my problem. The agent from Samsung agreed to have a technician come to my house to repair our TV, which is something that the various technicians who I spoke to from SquareTrade refused to do. In fact the SquareTrade technician who agreed to stay on the phone with me during my call with Samsung did not stay on the line and never heard what the Samsung technician had to say about what would be needed to repair my television.

It appears to me that Square Trade representatives and technicians are trained in how to take customers to the “breaking point” versus trying to quickly resolve their issues. I purchased my television from COSTCO, which is a company that I have always respected for how they stand behind their brand and their products. However, in this case I believe COSTCO did not help me as a valued customer in how I was treated by SquareTrade. The next time that I purchase an extended warranty it will not be with SquareTrade.

I do want to express my appreciation to Samsung in how they assisted in handling my problem and I will definitely be purchasing Samsung products in the future. For me this has been a very frustrating experience in dealing with SquareTrade and COSTCO and one that I would not wish on anyone else. Finally, I would suggest that SquareTrade needs to look at their customer service systems and procedures because they certainly need to be fixed.

The only thing that they ask for is the original purchase number from eBay and the proof of purchase for the part and item. eBay keeps track of everything so if I go in my purchase history, all I gotta do is screenshot and email it to SquareTrade. I don't have to play games and figure out who I need to call to figure something out.

We have a side-by-side and when we are driving it in the field, they tend to snap. I filed a claim for a CV axle on it. Bought a 55" Samsung at Sam's Club and added the 5 year warranty, assuming it was with Sam's. Had a lighting strike on a tree near the house and zapped a number of items. After a tedious phone menu and talking with a service rep was transferred to TV team, who scheduled a repairman and mailed parts that did not work, repairman said replace and now they want another repairman different parts and mail back the non working parts and wait for another appt...Not very happy with my experience.. BTW the zapped items I bought at Best Buy w/ Geek Squad warranty were replaced with new, no questions asked the next day.

I purchased a 55" Vizio TV for $600 two years ago and the screen has started blinking on and off. I contacted Squaretrade and they promptly got a repairperson out. That is where anything resembling good customer service stopped. It could not be fixed and the repair guy advised them of that. Since then I have been given the run-around and am getting pretty pissed off. They said they would send a link with "OPTIONS" but there was only one, which was half the price of my original TV and an off brand. I called and was told to wait longer for more options, which never came. So I called again and got an attitude from someone I could barely understand. After I advised him of the differences in my current tv and the proposed replacement, he said they would do a manual review. After another day of checking the live link for more options, finally another one appeared.

It was a more comparable Samsung. However, when I returned to the live link 30 mins later to order the Samsung it was gone. I feel like they are messing with me at this point. I chatted with someone online to discuss and was again told they couldn't do anything and that I needed to call and talk to their rude customer service. Can't wait. So after a week and a half all I have is them offering me a crap TV and a lot of frustration. I will never use them again for anything. I would rather just buy a new TV in the future. Terrible experience.

We apologize for any difficulty experienced with your recent claim.

Squaretrade offers repair, replacement or reimbursement as our resolutions for claims. These resolutions are determined per our discretion and which are available typically depend on your item category and the issue it is experiencing.

In this case when it was determined that repair was insufficient to service your product we migrated the claim to replacement. Following this, we provided a replacement link with offers based on the technical specifications of your original unit, of which will be brand new. This is a live link and as units with the specification come available they will appear.

When you informed Squaretrade of your concerns we manually located a new offer for you, of which we have determined is comparable to your original product.

We again apologize for your experience but we greatly appreciate you bringing us these concerns.

After all that time all I got for it was a promise that I will get an email from the service company to make an appointment. Worst customer service experience ever and would not recommend anyone waste their money on a warranty with this company. They give vague answers to questions and kept referring to the “back office” who makes the decisions but I can’t speak with them but they unfortunately are the only ones with anything but vague answers. They also do not prioritize some appliances over others. Apparently a broken dishwasher is the same as a broken refrigerator. Think twice before buying.

It couldn't control the temperature and we lost a lot of food. We filed a claim with SquareTrade and the reps were nice and very friendly. But we went back and forth a few times. They tried to give me a number for somebody they thought could fix it. They were a manufacturer in Tennessee of their own equipment. SquareTrade realized that I wasn't fribbling and we went ahead and took care of it.

SquareTrade ended up issuing me an e-gift card for Walmart where I purchased the product for the amount that I purchased it for. But I did something wrong on the little thing that I have to electronically sign so sending me the e-gift card took three days. But once I did my part right, it only took 30 minutes. All in all, having an extended warranty was worth its weight in gold. Without it, I would have been out $480.

Squaretrade uses certified technicians to complete our repairs, of whom extensively audit every product that we service. Items will only be sent back to the consumer if all hardware components pass this diagnostic testing to make sure that the repair was successfully made.

But I was assured I could easily call and cancel it. I tried to cancel it two days after purchase by calling the number listed on the brochure (1-877-927-7268). I was lead through prompts (#3 = all other calls, #3 to cancel) but each time I tried to cancel, I was told, "Sorry, I didn't get that." After 3 attempts, the line disconnects with a, "Please try your call again later." I tried my call three times. Finally, I called and used the prompts to get a sales agent, who said she she would cancel the policy for me. I have yet to receive the confirmation email she promised.

So I had bought a Samsung S8+ (completely unlocked so I could choose my service freely) shortly after it came out and paid about $200 extra for a SquareTrade warranty on it. It was a great phone for about 1 year and 9 months but all good things must come to an end. When the battery started crapping out and the screen had been broken on two edges, I finally decided it's time to file a claim. I did so and chose the "replacement device" option in which they send you a "new-ish" device to replace your old, broken one. They charged me a $75 deductible, which was fine, and sent me a phone. The phone was a Verizon locked S8+ so I couldn't use it at all on my AT&T network. Okay then, so they made a mistake no biggy. I called them up and they sent me another phone. This time it was a T-Mobile phone which can actually run on AT&T's bandwidth. Cool right? No. So here is the catch, or rather the list.

1st. The phone itself seems to work slower, as in loading videos, downloads, etc. is noticeably slower.
2nd. I get Google Ads after EVERY. SINGLE. PHONE. CALL. This is a BIG deal to me because I have already paid for the phone and I've already paid for the service. In what way is it justifiable to cram advertisements down my throat while using the phone for it's most basic function??? This is unacceptable.

3rd. This is a big one too. I can NOT use Wifi-Hotspot. It will connect to the device but simply won't provide the device with internet access. As a young academic, I need this function regularly to use my laptop.

All of the above are completely unacceptable. I'd much rather have saved the $275 that I gave to SquareTrade and used to purchase a decent friggin' replacement phone. If you're considering a warranty through them, save your money. They're just going to screw you over. Lesson learned.

Just last week I noticed a small 4-5 inch white light appearing below the glass and moves up toward the center. The picture is fine but this white line is annoying. There is no crack in the glass and the TV has not been moved since we installed it in 2017. There are no kids here. There are no throwing things in the house. We're two old 65 year olds that sit in chairs and watch TV!

I called Samsung and they ran tests and said the panel has failed. The said call the extended warranty folks. I filed a claim with SquareTrade on 7/21 and submitted three pictures. On 7/22, they denied the claim saying this was physical damage to the screen! There is no damage to the glass screen. The light comes from below not through any crack. This company is a scam for big ticket items, no doubt in my book. I'm just starting to write Costco and the CEO of SquareTrade. Others to follow until I get resolution.

I got a warranty for protection because things can go wrong with cellphones. I've had to file three claims with SquareTrade and two out of the three, they have resolved swiftly and great. But the latest one was a horrific experience. It's still unresolved and I'm ready to switch my phone. My power button on my cellphone doesn't work, and supposedly, I need to do a factory reset, which would clear everything off. And I didn't think that was the proper solution. First of all, it wasn't a, "This will resolve the issue," it's "Let's try this," and so I appreciate them trying to save the $80 deductible. But I think it's a hardware issue and not a software issue. I could be wrong too.

I have to do a factory reset in order to resolve it and see if that works. And if it doesn't, then I have to call back and figure out how to get this phone fixed or get a new one. I kept wanting to talk to the supervisor because the representative was coming back with this information saying, "We're not gonna run the $80. We really think this is the best solution for you." But I wanted to get the verification from the supervisor and discuss my options, and he never transferred. He called back, but he wouldn't connect me to the supervisor and that was extremely frustrating. Still, my overall experience has been good.

It was pure hell for a few days, with a "Confirmed Appt" from you but NOT confirmed (little did I know) at USSI, who had no excuse for repairman not showing up in the set time frame. Two different people said they had tried in vain for 2 days to contact him. "Maybe he's having personal problems. We only have one man in your area." LAME. So I was irate with USSI and especially SquareTrade (all of whom had honestly tried to help me) and told Costco that, while it was not directly their fault, I held them responsible and vowed never to deal with them again.

Within a day or two, I was offered a new TV or refund of my purchase price. I was flabbergasted. I had NO INTENT of raising such a stink that Costco or SquareTrade would give me a new TV. In fact, I'm kind of embarrassed by it. But I'll take it!!! It was more than fair treatment. Far more. So in the end, I'm delighted. But seriously, there has to be better communication between SquareTrade and USSI. In fact, so bad was USSI (and, in the end, NOT SquareTrade) that I'd consider finding a different servicing company if I were you. In the long run, though, THANK YOU for doing more than "make me whole".

I've used SquareTrade for years and have been very pleased with it. It was recommended by my son-in-law who was familiar with them. I have bought the warranty for TV, printers, phone and a lot of electronic items. When I first started out, I bought directly through SquareTrade but when I bought a Nintendo 2DS for my grandson on eBay, they offered the warranty and I got it. My grandson dropped the item and broke the screen on it, so it wasn’t a covered item. So, in that case, it didn’t work for me. There were some times when I was able to do the claim directly online and then, there were other times when I called in. The warranty has been very valuable and it has saved us money. There were times when we had to use it and there has been products that we purchased it for although we didn’t need it but you never know.

In May of 2017 I purchased a Samsung S8 cellphone from Sam's Club. With the phone purchase I also purchased the two-year SquareTrade warranty that included guaranteed buy back of that phone. In May 2019 I contacted SquareTrade about the buy back and after multiple phone transfer I spoke with an individual who indicated that I would receive $150 for the S8 (in exceptional condition).

The phone was shipped and received on 24 May 2019. When 3 weeks passed I contacted SquareTrade and again had to experience multiple transfers and phone holds. When I finally spoke with someone, there were apologies and assurance that the check would be issued and received in approximately 10 days. When no check was received I again called (after having to search and phone a phone number since none is listed on "Contact Us") was transferred at least 4 times, on hold for over an hour, and each time had to repeat the information. When I spoke with someone, I was told they would investigate and get back with me. At some point I asked to speak with a supervisor who apologized and promised that a check would be issued. In the last 7-10 days I did receive a call from a very pleasant individual who promised to investigate, would call me back, and that the check would be forthcoming.

As of today (16 May 2019) I have not received the check! While I am still hopeful that a check will arrive (and if it does I will update this review), my plan is to somehow contact the parent company (All State) as well as exploring other options such as formal complaints with the Better Business Bureau. I fully understand that things happen but next week (22-26 May 2019) will be two months! The process of reaching someone in hopes of rectifying the situations, receiving return phone calls, etc. is, in my opinion, unacceptable. Personally, I will never consider purchasing a SquareTrade warranty of any type, and am now will to pay more for coverage provided the the mobile provider.

It was to have protection and I got a warranty through the store where I purchased the device from. Something happened to the Xbox and I took it to the shop. The guy told me that he could not fix it. So, I can upgrade it, he would give me credit and all I have to come out-of-pocket is 160-something which was why I filed the claim. SquareTrade said that something was going on with the receipt and I had to call the people to get a better receipt. Filing a claim with them was difficult. Having an extended warranty is very valuable but it depends on who you get the warranty through and how able I am to be assisted in a better way. Aside from the Xbox, I also have a couple of other items I purchased the warranty for, including an iPad Pro.

    Original Review: July 15, 2019

I can't believe I have read so many good reviews about SquareTrade. Six months ago I purchased a new $1400 laptop from Best Buy and as one usually does after purchasing an expensive computer I bought an extended warranty to protect my purchase against accidents. After looking at the prices of the Best Buy warranty vs. SquareTrade's, I decided to purchase the warranty from SquareTrade. The rub is that I decided to purchase the SquareTrade warranty on Amazon because it was much cheaper than buying directly through the SquareTrade website. So I purchased the warranty, uploaded my Best Buy receipt to the website, and enjoyed the peace of mind knowing my new expensive laptop was protected from drops and spills.

Lo and behold, 6 months later I spill a drink all over my laptop and it shuts down and won't power on again. I panic but quickly remember I had a warranty that specifically protected against spills. So I file a claim online and receive an email telling me to call Squaretrade because they need more information. When I call I am told that my warranty is void because I purchased it through Amazon after Buying my laptop from Best Buy.

I will concede that I may have missed some fine print somewhere saying that you could only buy the warranty from the same store you purchased the device from or the SquareTrade website. But could no one have told me that after I purchased the warranty from Amazon and uploaded the Best Buy receipt? I'm really only particularly angry that I wasn't told about this mistake when I purchased the warranty and could have had a chance to buy a Best Buy warranty instead. SquareTrade was perfectly happy to take my money knowing any claim I filed would be rejected. I really wasn't planning on having to buy a new laptop anytime soon. I'm not really sure what I'm going to do. If anyone at SquareTrade reads this, my claim ID # is **. I would really appreciate some help.

I got a SquareTrade plan for a laptop through Costco. We purchased it online so we just got the protection plan. It was a little bit easy to file the claim when the keyboard quit. But there was a misunderstanding either on our part or theirs. How it went was that the laptop came with a year warranty then our credit card from Costco gives us another year of warranty. On top of that, we bought a three-year warranty so that’s a total of five years. But when I first went to make the claim, they tried to tell me that the three-year warranty was concurrent with the manufacturer's and my credit card's. Why would somebody buy double insurance for the same time? But SquareTrade made it right. They extended the warranty so it’s active until August. I don't know the exact status of the laptop yet. I’m not sure if it’s being refurbished. But they said they would email something. I’m glad I have a recourse and I'd recommend them.

I purchased a protection plan for $249 coverage for 3 years and I paid $59 plus $50 deductible. I selected the amount of coverage which was the regular price of my tablet in case I need to replace it. Their warranty policy stated that for replacement, they will reimburse not to exceed maximum amount of coverage. SquareTrade says they can only reimburse me $99 minus $50 deductible. If that is the case I will be paying $109 for $99 coverage which is insane.

I said I purchased a protection plan that will cover the cost of a new replacement for my Tablet. I didn't purchase a plan to cover the promotional amount that I paid for. What if I bought that tablet at a regular price of $249 and purchase a protection plan for $99? Will they reimburse me the purchase amount of $249 or the coverage amount of $99. Somehow SquareTrade has changed. I have been with them without any issues, now they were trying their best to avoid paying, considering they have violate their Warranty Policy agreements as listed under "Limit of Liability" that they would reimburse "not to exceed the COVERAGE amount."

I bought a Samsung 70 inch tv from Samsung and also purchased the SquareTrade extended warranty. Approximately 2 years after purchase the tv picture started to be a problem. We had been watching tv and it was fine, went into other room for something and when we returned the picture was not functional although audio was. I contacted SquareTrade the next day sending and resending pictures of receipt. Each time I called they would say that one of required items was too blurry to see. After a week of taking pictures and resending I was finally told my warranty did exist. Had they only look at the original email they had sent when the warranty was purchased they could have easily seen this without a week of back and forth.

Finally I was allowed to talk to tv tech that put me through a series of actions. From this she determined what parts to send. Once received I needed to make an appointment with a local tech in NY even though repair company United Service Source Inc. Tentative appt was July 3rd but even with repeated calls tech did not come until July 8th. When he arrived he took pictures of the tv screen. It was still doing the white lines across screen. He said this was not his usual job but was asked to do because no one else in area. He had trouble removing back of tv and had to make call for info. He tried each of the 3 parts that were sent and they did not fix problem but left tv totally without any lines or picture. While doing this he was upset that he had somehow cracked the screen and said that tv would be replaced or money sent.

He took more pictures and fill out a form. It said that there was NO physical damaged when he arrived and asked me to sign it. What a fool! I should have made a copy. Within hours SquareTrade contacted me and stated the cracked screen was physical damage and not covered. YES DAMAGE DONE BY THEIR TECH WHILE INSTALLING PARTS THAT DID NOT WORK!!! I replied to their denial of claim this morning and somehow they have not had time to respond to my rebuttal. Will I ever hear???? I just don't feel that "YOU ARE IN GOOD HANDS WITH ALLSTATE."

It is now two weeks after I received an e-mail from SquareTrade saying they had received the second tablet I sent back, and I had not heard anything further despite assurances the reimbursement should take a matter of days, a business week at max. I called them and all they were able to tell me is that they would contact the depot handling the replacement and that I should be receiving a replacement from them and not a reimbursement as promised.

I use my computer for work and have now been without for a substantial amount of time. We will see what happens, but my next step is going to be to contact a consumer rights attorney. Don't waste your money on SquareTrade. Their repairs are outsourced. Have gotten too big to even keep track of your electronics. All they will do is blame someone else for their bad customer service.

In addition to this investigation, I will also provide you with a full refund on the warranty because I completely understand why this situation can be frustrating. The check of $99.99 will be processed within one business day and does not affect your repair at all, your warranty will still continue as usual.

I bought the insurance on an Apple iPad. It was crushed on accident and they had me mail it to them to be replaced. I got it back in the mail and they had not even looked at it because they said FMI was not turned off. I called and explained at the time I did not know I had an Apple account so SquareTrade said no problem, had me send it again. Again 2 weeks later they sent it back and had not looked at it. I kept it this time a month and worked with Apple and they found my account and they turned FMI off. Apple explain to me by deleting it from the account there is no way they could say FMI was still on. So last week I contacted SquareTrade. Told them FMI was off and mailed them the crushed iPad.

Yesterday I got an email saying they can't do anything with it because FMI is on.. So I called them today and they want written proof from Apple that FMI has been turned off.. What a joke. So as of right now they still have my iPad and I’ll contact Apple tomm and get the information but by that time they will have sent it back to me a 3rd time. The iPad is crushed and they know this. It has to be replaced and FMI is off so why not just do what you were paid to do. I am tired of the runaround.

Several years ago, we had good experiences with SquareTrade. We began regular customers, purchasing warranties for many of our electronics, including all our Kindles (we have 6, though some are now older and out of warranty). About 2 years ago, the customer service began to go downhill. When I call to file a claim, they can't find my device or they can't find the warranty or they can't "bind" the warranty to the device. The worst has been with the Kindles, which tend to break frequently. I spend hours on the phone each time.

The last time, I ended up simply cancelling 2 plans and getting refunds (which I used towards a replacement device) since they could not figure it out. Today I'm calling about a different Kindle, and find out I can't use the warranty for this device because during my last claim someone mistakenly bound this warranty to the other Kindle and they don't seem to know how to fix that. I'm writing this review while on hold.

SquareTrade ought to have a computer system that allows them to pull up a list of all my warranties and devices. It should match up the devices to the warranty and keep a record of all claims. It should not be possible to bind a warranty purchased in 2017 to a Kindle purchased in 2016 - what led to this problem. I shouldn't have to be reading warranty plan IDs, Amazon invoice numbers, device serial numbers from previously replaced devices, etc. over the phone. This information should already be in the computer system - if I can look it up from my Amazon account, SquareTrade should already have it.

Their phone system is also terrible. Every time I call, I get transferred multiple times and put on hold forever. Each time I'm transferred, I have to provide answers to the same identifying information and explain my problem, which device I'm trying to file a claim on, etc. all over again. This information should be recorded in a call log at the start of the call, and transferred with me. In the future, I will buy warranties somewhere else. You have lost a customer, SquareTrade. The only question left is whether you will honor my remaining warranties or I should just cancel those and be done with you. Does this seem like a long review? Yup, I'm still on hold.

We bought Bose wireless earbuds for our 19 year old son in October of 2017 for Christmas. We also purchased the SquareTrade 3 year warranty. He used them regularly at the gym and while riding his bike. Unfortunately the right earbud stopped working and the control plate came off during a bike ride and was lost. We have purchase Square Trade warranties in the past. It provided us with 'peace of mind' when making high value electronic purchases. We have been lucky and have never had to file a claim.

We thought covering this item would be a good idea. We were surprised when our claim was denied. They stated that there was physical damage. The only physical thing that was wrong with this device was that the face plate had fallen off. This was explained when we submitted the claim. Not only did they deny the claim, they want to refund the cost of the warranty. This was unsolicited. Obviously, they know they are wrong and this claim is justified.

When I receive a package and I buy something through SquareTrade, they should send a sheet that shows that you have a protection plan on it. It's like when you buy something from the store, you get a receipt that says that you paid for this two-year warranty or an extended one. Nevertheless, overall, I'd recommend it to a friend. I have been working for over 6 weeks on a claim that should have been a process that takes less than a week. Some background... I have a Galaxy S9 in Sunset Gold. I used the company to fix a shattered screen. They sent me to their only "approved" vendor in the area, who put a black screen/frame on my gold phone. Now, trying to get this fixed... I called and explained that I now have no resale or trade-in value for my phone because my phone's frame no longer matches the back color. They claim that they are resolving this issue and will be sending me a replacement. They tell me they will call me back within 24 hours to complete the process, as the issue must be "reviewed and handled by the supervisor." However, they assure me it will all be taken care of.

So, for the last 6 weeks I have called every few days and I am told the same thing. I have even gotten emails telling me that my new phone has shipped... However when I call they assure me that no phone has yet shipped. Honestly, aside from 24 hour phone support, I have nothing good to say about this company and their phone insurance. At this point, I've really just been ripped off. If you're deciding where to get phone insurance, go to a bigger name place where you can rest assured that you're in good care and that you will get what you pay for.

Do NOT waste your money on a Square Trade protection plan. I purchased a plan when I bought my Apple Watch through Samsclub.com. Square Trade does not specify what is covered in the plan when you purchase it. They neglect to tell you that accidental damage is not covered -- until you try to file a claim. Then they tell you that your product is not covered. Why purchase insurance that is not going to cover accidental damage? They purposely don't tell you that accidental damage isn't covered so that they can take your money and then not provide protection for your product. Square Trade is a BAD INVESTMENT! I would have given Square Trade a 0 star rating, but that wasn't an option.

I was very satisfied with the turnaround time to repair the broken screen on my Samsung Galaxy Note 9. I was also happy with the repair up until yesterday, when I noticed a bright white spot beginning to return on my screen. Although I am still within the 30 day guarantee on SquareTrade repairs, I'm hesitant to send the phone back to them. I put a high-quality screen protector on my phone, which was pretty expensive. I would have to remove it to send the phone to SquareTrade.

ALSO, and this is the main reason for not sending the phone back--I have no guarantee that SquareTrade won't replace this one with a refurbished phone that may not even be the same make and model, just a comparable phone. I want this one back, because I know how well I've taken care of it, plus I want THIS make and model of phone. In the future I will not buy SquareTrade insurance because of this replacement policy. If I buy insurance, it will be insurance that either repairs the phone that I have and guarantees those repairs longer than 30 days, OR replaces the phone with a new one of the same make and model if the original phone can't be repaired.

Updated on 07/03/2019: I do not know why my reply cannot be public. So I am writing a new complaint against SquareTrade because I want it public. I received a response that did not accept failure within ST. I don't expect to change anything with ST. What I do expect to do is have a voice with Costco and to let them know everything that has happened. The company that you set up a repair appoint is almost a 3 hour drive from my home. From a so called appointment for Friday which was confirmed with Tyese, which was not confirmed with a specific time frame. So I called, was told I didn't have an appointment, got yelled at from the pregnant lady who told me that the woman who made an appointment for me had no business doing the scheduling.

However, this other woman... drove the pregnant woman to the hospital so one would think she would be kind to this woman whose name is Tyese???? It was as if I had to hear too many personal issues within a repair appliance company that absolutely handles themselves inappropriately. PG Mechanical in Hesperia. I also was told by the pregnant woman that they have constantly told ST not to put appointment dates on emails to customers because ST does not do their scheduling for repair appointments...and they repeatedly tell you this.

I just got off the phone with Angelica from ST. I sent her an email and she called me right back. So thank heaven for Angelica. The only person within ST that does her job. I gave her a detailed story of what transpired with the repair company. You can listen to the tape as she advised me that our conversation was recorded, and I said "Great and I only hope executive at ST listen to it!" Of course, it won't be because ST is in the business of delaying repairs and making it more difficult to get a claim approved or acted upon. It should not be this difficult. You need to take a day off from work and maybe some more days... for someone to set up an appointment. If ST is going to respond, they please don't pull out a generic response. Respond to the numerous problems that occurred. Especially with Peter who hangs up on you so he doesn't have to set up an appointment.

Original Review: Two years ago, I purchased 2 warranties from Costco for my washer and dryer from SquareTrade. I have a problem with my dryer door. From 8am in the morning and it is almost 1pm, I have yet to get an appointment. I called Costco Concierge and even they had to get back to work. ** from the Appliance Area hung up and never called back nor followed through. **, a supervisor from claims had me on hold. And finally when he said he had a supervisor he was lost in space.

Take the week off from work because you will need it. Don't forget to shower before you call because you will be on hold and be disconnected for a long time. Costco Executives should really re-evaluate their relationship with SquareTrade. SquareTrade needed everything including video of the defected appliance. SquareTrade is so disorganized. I don't see how Costco can continue a relationship. A 2 year, 1 month old appliance. I said I would rather go through breast cancer than deal with SquareTrade and I mean it. Costco, open your eyes. Dump SquareTrade.

To name some of the SquareTrade Workers I have spoken to today. **, ** (who should be fired), **, **(supervisor-on hold indefinitely with this guy even when he says he has someone who can help me), **(supervisor) - she got the video and still waiting. Employee list to be continued. Do you really think the SquareTrade Warranty is worth the paper it is written on. Nope... It isn't.

I asked for his manager and phone number repeatedly, avoided my request and proceeded to tell me he had several managers and there was no direct phone number. He gave me the general customer service number and after repeated request he finally gave me a name for one of his managers with a direct number.

This company does not stand by their warranty and their customer service is terrible. I would avoid them at all cost. I was able to at least get my warranty cost refunded. I reported them to the Better Business Bureau. I contacted the manufacturer of my product who verified that the product is indeed waterproof and apologized for the defective product and is sending me a new one.

    Hello Cherea,

We apologize we were unable to approve your claim.

Squaretrade Standard Protection plans are intended to cover hardware or electrical failures due to normal use, not physical or liquid damage. These types of issues are covered beneath our Accident Protection plan, though we understand there is a discrepancy regarding how this failure occurred.

One of our specialists have reached out to discuss the situation but we haven't had a chance to speak yet. We look forward to discussing this situation with you and we hope to turn your experience around.

SquareTrade sucks!!! They don't want to honor Amazon warranty. When I purchase my computer through Amazon I paid $599.00 plus the $5.15 warranty. Amazon only offer me one protection plan. I paid $5.15 so now I want to put a claim in they don't want to honor the plan. They quickly offer me my warranty price back to keep from covering the device which is my computer.???

    Hello Lawanda,

We apologize for any difficulty with your Squaretrade warranty.

Squaretrade warranties cover products up to the item's purchasing price, therefore the purchased warranty must have coverage which includes coverage up to this amount. This warranty only covered a product worth up to $100, whereas your item purchasing price was much higher.

Due to this we are unable honor the plan and we have refunded it's full purchasing price. We again apologize for any inconvenience but one of our specialists has directly emailed you to further discuss the situation.

    Thank you,

When they delivered the lawn mower I was not given a call. They just left it on the porch. Thank god my brother was there. Someone could have taken it. The customer service when you call the people are not very nice. You are transferred to too many people. I have never been talked bad to like I was a child. That concern me that if I am talked to like that what about others.

Don't bother calling them, All they want to do is get you off the phone and for you to file your own claim through the web. Going through that process I have been misinformed (in writing and on chat) and feel the main purpose of the insurance is to create so many hassles, you want to give up. Have a Samsung Note 8, Warranty bought through Target. Phone won't charge. Was given the name and address of a phone repair place to take my phone to. They do not repair Samsungs. Email received stated if I want to go to another store, go to the claim status page to change, which I did. No other options were listed.

I opened a chat, who told me he could not give me an option and I needed to call the 877 number, which I did. I was told they could not give me any other options, although when I first filed the claim, 2 options were listed. I was then told I could take the phone to any place for repair. With my experience with them so far, I have no trust in their advice, as they also have the option of denying a payment request. Shame on Target and shame of this insurance.

Person I talked to was helpful and patient. Would have liked some clarity as to how the amount of the check was reached, as it was slightly less than the amount I paid for the item on eBay. Website should have a more clear (very possible I missed it) way to initiate chat instead of staying on a page, hoping it pops up.

I have purchased an extended warranty coverage plan from SquareTrade each time a purchased a new set of Bluetooth headphones. I own three sets of headphones, two pair lasted past the extended warranty coverage time frame. The last pair I purchased stopped pairing with my phone after two months after purchasing them. I contacted SquareTrade and was told to send my headphones in to a repair center and they would repair the unit or replace them.

Approximately 2 weeks later I received a notification stating the claim was denied due to water damage with was not covered by the warranty plan. I knew this claim was untrue, the headphones were not exposed water outside of normal perspiration during wear. I called Square and told them that there this could not be an accurate assessment of the equipment because the headphones were not exposed to water. I was told I could pay to send the headphones to a separate repair shop and if they verify there is no water damage contact them to reopen the warranty claim.

I was deeply disappointed with my claim experience with SquareTrade and felt scammed and cheated. I would not recommend purchasing an extended warranty for small electronics from SquareTrade. I do not believe their repair technicians are competent enough to properly evaluate valid claims which leaves customers with who have valid warranty claims out of luck.

    Hello Eric,

We apologize we were unable to repair your item.

Squaretrade offers a variety of warranties, in this case your item is covered by our Standard Protection plan. Standard Protection ensures your product's hardware or electrical failures are repaired, so long as the failure has been caused by normal usage or wear and tear. When your item was received at our repair center our technicians found signs of liquid damage inside the item, this requires an Accidental Protection plan to be covered.

We understand you disagree with this diagnosis and one our specialists has reached out to discuss the situation. We haven't yet had a chance to speak but we hope to discuss the situation soon and improve your experience with Squaretrade.

    Thank you,

I bought a cheap gaming chair at Staples for like $100. It was $130 on sale for $100. The cashier sells me on the protection plan and assures me that if anything happens I can get the same exact chair or the $100 I paid back. NO PROBLEM. It covers accidents all that. Well fast forward 9 months when it gets scratched up by a cat and cushion is flat and uncomfortable, I try to file a claim and am offered $85. Not enough to buy the same chair ANYWHERE or a replacement. Of course I just want the same chair which is still abundant at Staples. Only to be told that they don't know if they can get same one, it may be different or REFURBISHED. AS IN USED.

I chose replace option to find out if I can get same one and wait for days and get no response until I go online to chat with a rep. Which says same thing and wants me to agree to a replacement without knowing what they are gonna send me and by doing so it will effectively end my protection plan options. Yea not gonna agree to anything uncertain or any product you just want to send to save money. Like what is the problem with replacing a $100 item for a company this big that you got paid to insure. Like don't sell protection plans then if you can honor even the smallest ones.

I now have to call and waste time out of my day to try to figure this out or get my money back for protection plan or go to Staples and try to get a complete refund or exchange for a new chair 9 months later which they probably won't want to do but won't want to deal with an angry customer due to SquareTrade trying to scam people. I wouldn't recommend this plan to anyone. I believe Staples even stopped selling it so that should tell you a lot.
